- 0:42The day we had a great first event at 54 west and Clawson really cool open air.
- 0:47Um, a lot of people showed up. It was cool conversation,
- 0:50almost round table style, the networking,
- 0:52we all kind of sat down the little lounge chairs, but it was great. Uh, hope,
- 0:55hope to see in next month, same old, uh, networking, uh, with a bunch of nerds.
- 0:59Good stuff. Yeah, that was a great space. It's October 20th should be, uh,
- 1:02should be good. Mike, how you doing? How they treating you, man? What's.
- 1:05Going on? It's treating me well, what's.
- 1:07Up. It's been a while. It's been about a good year since we've seen you, man.
- 1:11Miss you.
- 1:11Hasn't been that long. It's been six months, guess six months,
- 1:15or is it gonna drop six months from now?
- 1:17The way Randy edits. It'll be six one. Now I'm just kidding. I'm just kidding.
- 1:21I'm Hey, Randy, I'm fine. My hair's already gray. We're good.
- 1:25So, uh, you've been like, we'll go back a little bit,
- 1:28but like I gotta drop clerks three, man. Like, that's gotta be like,
- 1:32just to do the whole red carpet, the whole Hollywood thing.
- 1:35Like how glitz and glammy was it or did you guys simple or I guess what was
- 1:38going on there?
- 1:40I was not at the Los Angeles, premier,
- 1:42which was like lots of pop in circumstance. It was at, uh it's.
- 1:47I don't even know what they call it anymore,
- 1:48but it used to be grins Chinese theater, which I think is racist now. Right.
- 1:52It on me too, you know, all the, uh, the other.
- 1:55Man's Chinese. Wasn't it.
- 1:57Man, man. Yeah. Wow. It's if you want to go with, you know, Chinese theater,
- 2:01you know, whatever groins Asian theater, how about that?
- 2:06Or a man's Asian theater should have been one of.
- 2:09Those, but I know it's, uh, it got released, you know,
- 2:12I was telling you pre-show my daughter works at the locally imagined and they
- 2:15dropped it there. I mean,
- 2:17it was pretty much dropped the entire country or how many do you like,
- 2:21did it go everywhere?
- 2:23Uh, Kevin did a, uh, fathom event and he did a Q and a,
- 2:27and he did it out of, I, I believe, uh, I might be a mistaken,
- 2:31but I'm pretty sure that he did it from Atlantic Highlands. Um,
- 2:35he just bought a, in this day and age,
- 2:38my boss that's, uh,
- 2:42and I've never seen a man who was more of a far
- 2:46thinker than Kevin Smith bought a movie
- 2:51theater. He bought a five screen movie theater and I'm like,
- 2:56what? That is so badass that I was like
- 3:01completely amazed.
- 3:02So it's gonna be like tu every day on four theaters. Is that what's going on?
- 3:08Dollar signs, Tuss that's badass. Yeah.
- 3:12He he's making a sequel to tus.
- 3:14He is not.
- 3:15Swear to God and to the hand to hand to.
- 3:19The man. So I dunno if I dunno if I ever told you that story. We saw him at, uh,
- 3:24Windsor ComicCon in Canada and it was like a spoken word thing.
- 3:28And you had to buy tickets and there was, it was just set up in like a,
- 3:31a banquet hall, like a wedding hall.
- 3:33And he talked for four hours and didn't take a
- 3:38breath the entire time and like an hour of it.
- 3:41And an hour of it was tusk.
- 3:45And I was so excited to see that movie because of that talk. And the,
- 3:50I don't wanna say that movie was a giant turn, but there was,
- 3:54I know there was inside joke galore and probably inside laughter going on for
- 3:58days. But like that movie was a, was an interesting,
- 4:00interesting film to say the least.
- 4:02Let's put it this way. That was, um,
- 4:05written by a man written and directed by a man who
- 4:10kept pushing the boundaries. He that's, that was what he, um, the, one of the,
- 4:15the, the things that he prides himself on for that movie.
- 4:19And I, I have a soft spot in my heart for it, cuz I've got Mr.
- 4:23Tusk at J and silent Bob's secret thing. I mean,
- 4:26I have to look at that damn thing every day. Right. Um,
- 4:29and smells like Justin Long still. So, um,
- 4:33but he just kept pushing the boundaries and he said,
- 4:37this movie is nothing but whimsy it's me
- 4:42indulging in like a, uh, a not, it was a,
- 4:46it started out as a podcast and you know,
- 4:50how many other movies have podcasters as the main protagonist? So.
- 4:55Well, I heard the main story was it was just like a Craigslist add that, Hey,
- 4:58I need a roommate it's free. You just gotta dress up like a walrus.
- 5:02like it was already in UK. Yes. It was in the person. And they're like,
- 5:06yeah, one hour a day, you dress up like a walrus. And I, I throw fish at you.
- 5:11So Hey, who would do that for free room and board shit.
- 5:16Yeah.
- 5:17Especially Edward your side at time.
- 5:21My God. Over on this side. Yeah. It's, it's a little expensive here.
- 5:25So clerks three, did you, uh,
- 5:27you actually got a part you're not just cameo and you're actually, uh,
- 5:30in the film, eh.
- 5:31I was, we, we played, um, hockey on the roof and, uh,
- 5:36it, we filmed last year and it was the hottest, it was, uh, middle of summer,
- 5:41hottest day of the summer. I, I think we, they planned it that way.
- 5:46We went up on the roof of the quick stop. And um,
- 5:50if you remember the original clerks,
- 5:53they played hockey on the roof and that's, it was an homage to that. And,
- 5:58um, just to give you a little bit of backstory for me, uh,
- 6:03I had had a double kidney infection like a week prior and I was
- 6:08just getting over it and I'm up on this stinking hot roof.
- 6:13And I'm like, oh my God.
- 6:14And we're all wearing long pants and we're in these hockey jerseys and they're
- 6:19like, stay hydrated, stay hydrated.
- 6:20Plus we've got the masks on cause still in the midst of COVID and um,
- 6:26we we've got umbrellas cuz it's the damn, I mean,
- 6:30it was melty up there, but we had fun. It was a blast. As.
- 6:35Long as you get to steal Gatorade kind of part of the stick, right? Yeah.
- 6:38Of course you have to steal Gatorade.
- 6:40So rumor has it. So I'm gonna be seeing you in person in a month,
- 6:43but rumor I know, I know quick stops still a store.
- 6:46Yes.
- 6:47But I also heard that the, the VHS store is like, is back,
- 6:51is that rumor or is that.
- 6:53No, no. They tried, they tried, there was a guy I forget. Uh,
- 6:57I think his name was Tucker and he wanted to, uh,
- 7:01make it into like a video store slash gift
- 7:05shop for everything Jay and silent Bob, which I, I was like,
- 7:10that's the, we have one of those it's called Jay and silent. Bob's secret.
- 7:15Thank you much. But you know,
- 7:17and we were trying to be supportive of him and uh,
- 7:21he was gonna actually rent videos and rent, uh,
- 7:24VHS V uh, VCRs. And I'm like, wow,
- 7:28that's bold. That's,
- 7:30that's a bold move to that's like going out and renting an, a track.
- 7:35It's like 12 years old all over again. I remember, uh,
- 7:37we used to rent an Nintendo systems occasionally when I'd go see my cousins or
- 7:41they'd come over. Uh, we rented a VCR a few times.
- 7:44You know what we just saw we're um, Eastside got 'em where I live in Detroit,
- 7:48the east, uh, more than the, where I live, but the old family videos.
- 7:52Did you guys, I dunno if you guys had those.
- 7:54Oh yeah. Oh my God.
- 7:55We had a Faser video and a place called Fe's Folies so
- 8:00there, and I would love to see them make a comeback.
- 8:03Cause I don't know about you guys, but like everything's dying in this, uh,
- 8:08you know, box, store world we had, um, one of,
- 8:13and every community had a mall back in the seventies and well,
- 8:16actually back in the eighties, we all had a mall, your mall,
- 8:20my mall there, they were essentially the same mall,
- 8:23but mine was cooler cuz I lived there and yours was cooler cuz you lived there.
- 8:28But um,
- 8:29we had the mammoth mall and my mall mammoth mall has the,
- 8:34um, the lovely, uh,
- 8:39distinction of being, uh, run by the Kushner family.
- 8:43You know, the, uh, the Trump's in waiting.
- 8:46The Jared Kushner.
- 8:48Yes that's them. Wow. So yeah, they're,
- 8:51they're killing off everything in that mall to make, uh, room for,
- 8:56um, uh, living space. So they're turning the mall
- 9:03essentially. They're turning the mall into, uh, Dawn, the dead.
- 9:08Without, without being Rames.
- 9:10Yeah, exactly. Or actually, uh, with Ken Forry.
- 9:13I still have a special place in my heart for that movie because it introduced,
- 9:17it introduced me to Richard cheese, um,
- 9:20who I cannot love more as a human being. Like I think he's brilliant.
- 9:26He is, uh, I love Richard cheese. So yes.
- 9:29See now my Saturdays used to involve,
- 9:30we used to go to record time and go and sing that one song to that one guy who
- 9:35would roll his eyes at you in the back room to try to find that one song,
- 9:38you know, that you heard at this club and you'd hum it, and he'd like, oh,
- 9:41Christ on the stick, you know?
- 9:43And then we'd go to best buy and literally spend all our money on, you know,
- 9:47DVDs and, and CDs. And then we would, you know,
- 9:50then we would go to like to the car radio store and like buy amps,
- 9:54like that's every dollar I had went to like, so I have crates and crates.
- 9:58Remember, I mean, there was furniture in our house dedicated to DVDs.
- 10:03Sure. Yeah. Like not just bookcases, but they had like chairs,
- 10:07like at the high back chair where they had the DVDs on, you know,
- 10:11you could pin 'em in the back or on the sides, but yeah,
- 10:14I used to go to tower records and remember when you could like buy a song for a
- 10:19dollar and put it on your cassette tape and they would make you a like your own
- 10:24kind of mix tape.
- 10:26Revolutionary. I remember harmony house did it.
- 10:30They were trying to do it with digital,
- 10:31where they were giving you like a USB stick and you could wow. And that,
- 10:35but it never worked cuz they could never get 'em to sell just one song.
- 10:40They were, I was, uh, consulting for them on the it side.
- 10:43That's why they were like, they used to have, um, little terminals.
- 10:46You could listen to songs, but they couldn't get 'em to sell them to people. Um,
- 10:50but that was their big thing. So what, so speaking,
- 10:54like I could reminisce you all day,
- 10:55but like now I feel like when fall hit,
- 10:59it's almost like the new TV shows when school starts. Right.
- 11:02And we are an absolute overload like tomorrow morning at three in the morning
- 11:07we're gonna get Andor which I, I wanna love it.
- 11:11I really do. I keep calling it Endor that it's gonna be E walks and no,
- 11:15no it's Andor um.
- 11:18Absolutely.
- 11:19But what an obscure character to do an entire series of, and I don't know,
- 11:22was this story, did this story need to be told?
- 11:24Cause I like Mandalorian when it first broke, I was like, okay, cool. I'm down.
- 11:28Bobba fat. I was like, oh my God. Gimme.
- 11:30Right. Of.
- 11:31Course. And then now I'm like, and or I'm like, who wants, like,
- 11:35I'm hoping I'm it looks really cool. Um, I dunno, what do you think?
- 11:40Uh,
- 11:40I think that it's gonna be more of an ensemble cast than it is just uh,
- 11:45and or what's his name? Uh, uh, Cassy and, and yeah. Um,
- 11:50I I'm hoping that it's like that. I, for one,
- 11:55we, we didn't need OB one Kenobi. We didn't need that, but.
- 11:59It was good. It was.
- 12:01It, it was no,
- 12:03it was brilliant in parts in very, very small,
- 12:07you got glimpses of how good it was and you got to see
- 12:12like the,
- 12:12the power of Vader and I'm sitting everyone out there is watching,
- 12:18you know, I'm, I'm like squeezing my hand, like the power of the dark side.
- 12:22You get to see how powerful Vader truly is the former Aquin
- 12:27Skywalker.
- 12:28If I remember OB one correctly, I'm, I'm trying to,
- 12:33one was necessary and two and three and four could have almost been
- 12:37combined. It's like when the one,
- 12:39whatever director was the one that it should have been back and forth between OB
- 12:44one and, and Ankin back and forth, back and forth. And it,
- 12:47it turned into like episodes two and three turned into that whole lay of,
- 12:51and I didn't hate her, um, or that whole thing, but it like the whole,
- 12:55when it was at its best, it was like them that the,
- 12:58just that struggle between those two.
- 13:00Right. Yeah. And you got that flashback of akin and um,
- 13:05his need to be better than only.
- 13:07One. Yeah. The training thing,
- 13:08I almost felt like it should have started there and like just constant go back
- 13:13and forth. You know what I mean? Yeah.
- 13:14That would've been really cool, but the one thing,
- 13:17and it was very disingenuous to me because the live action and the
- 13:21animated, the clone wars,
- 13:23clone wars gave you more depth of Ankin
- 13:27you got to see the warrior and the Jedi that they, you know,
- 13:31we didn't get to see anywhere else. You know, we,
- 13:36we heard like, he's this fantastic, um, fighter pilot.
- 13:41And we heard that he was this amazing warrior, but we never saw it.
- 13:45We only saw like these, we saw the annoying sack of,
- 13:50or we saw the flesh bag that he became, well.
- 13:54It's kinda like Bobba fat. Right? Like you're supposed to be like the bad,
- 13:57like everyone was kind of pissed. I'm like,
- 13:58you don't realize like he's an old man. Like he's just, you know, he's at the,
- 14:02like towards the end of his thing. Like, and they, and they tried to explain it,
- 14:05but like, you know, the problem was on the Mandalorian, those,
- 14:09those like the Bobba, he was like the baddest dude on the planet.
- 14:12And then when it came to the actual series,
- 14:15like he kinda wasn't anymore.
- 14:18You know? Well, I think part of it's like, it's really cool to, you know,
- 14:23uh, to fight, to gain something, but to, you know,
- 14:27to keep the peace that's the bitch, right?
- 14:31Politics. Yeah.
- 14:32Conquering easy. Conquering is that's no sweat.
- 14:36Alls you have to do is be the smarter and the stronger, but ruling no,
- 14:41that's a pain in the ass because that's about com compromise, um,
- 14:46going in and kicking someone's ass.
- 14:48That's all about you forcing your will on somebody else,
- 14:52but to keep the peace and to not have like the rebel uprising that, you know,
- 14:57kind of plague little plague, the empire just a little bit, um, you know,
- 15:02you need to, to learn the art of compromise.
- 15:04And I think that that's what the book of Bobba fed was should have been the,
- 15:08the book of compromise.
- 15:10. So my thing is, um,
- 15:12and you'll probably get mad at me for this cuz you don't, you don't need it,
- 15:15but I need screen crush. So like every time I watch an episode,
- 15:18I waited 12 hours and screen crush drops and he gives me all the references to
- 15:23all the books and everything that, where everything came from.
- 15:25But I watch it this episode over again, and then I'm like, oh,
- 15:30but I'm like, I almost feel like you are your own screen crush in your head.
- 15:34like.
- 15:35A, a little bit,
- 15:36but actually the one really weird thing is
- 15:41I didn't become a, I I'd always love star wars, our three star wars,
- 15:46you know, star wars, empire, Jedi.
- 15:50Those are our star wars. Yeah. Oh yeah. Uh, the, the kids growing up, they got,
- 15:54you know, um, like our children got, um,
- 16:00like the, the original, the other three, right? Um, yeah,
- 16:04the prequels. And then after that is, you know, like, I,
- 16:08I don't know our grandchildren, uh, not, not quite yet. We're.
- 16:13Not introducing either of 'em to 7, 8, 9. They're just, those are gone.
- 16:16Those are race the archives.
- 16:18Yeah. I wish but they're but even that I was like,
- 16:22you know what? And I, I had stopped watching clone wars, I think season, um,
- 16:27the first season, because it originally was like the cartoon,
- 16:31then it went CGI and my kids were like, yeah,
- 16:34this CGI is not all that great. It's like,
- 16:37there were like 10 and 11 and I was like, all right, very cool.
- 16:41We don't have to watch it anymore if you don't want to. And we didn't.
- 16:43And then I eventually went back because of what a disappointment,
- 16:48the last three movies were. And then I got back into, uh,
- 16:51I started watching the clone wars and I'm like, these are really, really,
- 16:55really well done.
- 16:57I had no idea how much time and energy day Lon had put into these,
- 17:02which is stunning.
- 17:04And then I watched them and I watched 'em all the way through. And then I,
- 17:07you know, we got that extra, uh, season with a soca. Yep.
- 17:12So I absolutely load when I first saw her.
- 17:16Whiny whiney.
- 17:18But then again, they put her with the, the perfect, uh, Jedi. Right? Yep. Um,
- 17:24but it wasn't because then we started to see the growth of Anan and then we
- 17:29started to see the growth of a soca and we,
- 17:31we saw how cool a soca became and how
- 17:36utterly amazing and brilliant Ankin truly was
- 17:41up until, you know, revenge of the.
- 17:44Right.
- 17:45Reverted back to form.
- 17:46Mike, did you see the book that when Luke,
- 17:50it was a quote from Lucas on what his vision was for
- 17:557, 8, 9.
- 17:57No, tell.
- 17:58Me you're gonna get so angry because it would've been the perfect.
- 18:02So basically it starts as the, when the Mandalorian brought Luke in.
- 18:07So Luke is that age and it's like, it wasn't necessarily going to be Grau,
- 18:11but it was during that time when Ben was being trained in like the young, the,
- 18:15you know, the, the next generation of Jedi are being trained,
- 18:18the Empire's gone and it's kind of turned into like the Bobba Fe where like the,
- 18:22the hus own this part. And they own that part.
- 18:25But Darth mall was back and he was basically the crime
- 18:30overlord and he was training Darth.
- 18:34Is it Reen rein the, the girl Darth rein the girl, um,
- 18:38as his apprentice. So then like, and it was, uh, Ray would've been,
- 18:43it would the solo twins. Cause that was the, what the original books were.
- 18:47So the Ray would've been the one, you know, and it basically this,
- 18:51this trilogy was following Leia.
- 18:53So Leia then was the grand chancellor or spring chancellor.
- 18:57And it kind of followed that story arc through the three. And it wasn't,
- 19:02you know, you would've never gotten Finn or Poe and you, you know,
- 19:05I don't know if Kyle Ren would've been Kyle Ren, he would've been Ben solo,
- 19:08but I don't know what he would've been, you know, and Ray would've,
- 19:11it wouldn't have been Ray. It would've been, you know, uh, what was her?
- 19:14Oh my God. Why? Uh, I can't think of her name, the solo. Um.
- 19:18Oh, I, yeah, forget, um.
- 19:20I'm gonna get yelled, but.
- 19:22I forget which solo girl, whatever her name was. Um, yeah.
- 19:26And didn't Luke get married.
- 19:30I don't, it didn't really say in his book, the book kind of quoted what,
- 19:34like an overview of like what the three arc.
- 19:36So he said the first one was following.
- 19:38It was basically the third one was following the, the,
- 19:40the daughter and the grandchildren. Gotcha. The third trilogy.
- 19:44Randy, how do you feel about that? How do you feel about Luke? Uh,
- 19:46marrying outside of the, yeah.
- 19:49I've never read any of the extended universe books or anything like that.
- 19:52I basically only watch the TV and movie stuff.
- 19:55Randy Randy's star Trek.
- 19:57Randy I'm I believe me. Hey, strange new world. Am I right?
- 20:02It's a great shake on star Trek.
- 20:05Double fun, so much fun.
- 20:07So, you know, what's pissing me off. What's going on now.
- 20:09And Randy can chime in on this. You knows all about this is between the damn,
- 20:14uh, uh, house house of, um, God bless it. Why can't,
- 20:19but it's house the Lord of the rings and,
- 20:23and all like combined. And like, people will walk into the room,
- 20:27like from my family and they'll go, which one is this one? And I'm like,
- 20:31I don't know. Like, you know, it's almost to the point where I don't know, they,
- 20:34they they're blending. They're so cl you know, two different,
- 20:37completely new story arcs. One goes 170 years back in the house of drag or the,
- 20:42uh, Darian thing. And, uh, Lord of the rings.
- 20:45I don't even know when that was said, I didn't even bother reading.
- 20:47Right. You should should tell next time they, they come in and they're like,
- 20:51which one is this? So do you see anyone ING a dragon?
- 20:54.
- 20:56A dragon, then it's the other one, right? Is,
- 21:00is someone and dragon and honest to God you do that.
- 21:04Someone's gonna actually a dragon.
- 21:05Did you see the bit on bars still, like two days ago about the, uh, orgy scene?
- 21:11No, but I, I mean, I did catch the orgy scene and I was like, I was a, um,
- 21:16I had to go to IMDB and just make sure that this girl wasn't like 15 years old,
- 21:21I'm like, oh, done. Let me just, cause I mean, you know.
- 21:25You never know.
- 21:26Family, notwithstanding those Brits are a little, you know.
- 21:30Apparently the, the extra,
- 21:31those are all extras and there was a.
- 21:35Special is what they are.
- 21:37, but it was a 12 hour shoot and they got paid like union scale.
- 21:43And they had to, they, the one,
- 21:44couple apparently was like in the 69 position for 12 hours and got like two
- 21:49breaks or something. They were expanding this on, on bar stool,
- 21:53Instagram or whatever. And I'm like good Christ.
- 21:55And I'm sure their breath smelled delightful.
- 21:58Well, he was, uh, he was going off about the,
- 22:01the swamp ass in the room because he goes,
- 22:02apparently it was like super hot and everybody was all sweaty, you know?
- 22:07Oh my God. I mean, poor, poor guy, but even poorer woman,
- 22:12cuz I'm sure, you know, his, his hairy ass was like, just like,
- 22:17oh God, what? The.
- 22:19So what's the deal with everything that comes out now everyone's got a bitch
- 22:22about it and not just the storyline, but now they're like, oh geez,
- 22:26it's woke or, oh this and, and I'm so tired of it. I'm not gonna lie.
- 22:30Like the girl in Lord of the rings. I thought, I think the El,
- 22:34the blonde I think is awesome.
- 22:35And like all of a sudden she's getting like death threats and hate and shit.
- 22:38She had to shut off her social. I'm like, what do you hate her for? I,
- 22:41I don't get it.
- 22:42She's amazing. Glad. Yeah. Fantastic.
- 22:45And she's getting hate because she's a strong female character.
- 22:49[inaudible] yourselves, everybody. Yeah. How about that? How about there?
- 22:53That's that's coming, coming at you straight from Jersey who fuck yourself.
- 22:58You know, that's perfectly fine. Don't watch it. Don't watch it.
- 23:01I think that Amazon's gonna be fine without your [inaudible] $4. Yeah. A month.
- 23:07Whatever. Think they'll, they'll be okay. Yeah. You know.
- 23:10I, I just don't like, don't you have better shit to do. Like.
- 23:14It's really awful. Cause uh,
- 23:16and managing a comic bookstore,
- 23:19even the world's most famous comic bookstore does not make me exempt from this.
- 23:23Cause I have people come in who bitch about she hope,
- 23:28uh, because it's a strong female character who, you know,
- 23:33and my wife has a problem with this. My wife has my, my wife, God love her.
- 23:38She's um,
- 23:40she is about not, not female empowerment.
- 23:45She's about empowerment. She's like, I don't give a shit. If you are a,
- 23:48a male or a female, be your own advocate, don't be a victim.
- 23:52Don't no one should be a victim. Right.
- 23:56And if you can help someone else out, help him out. But you know,
- 24:00you're not a white Knight. I'm not a white Knight. You're not a white Knight,
- 24:04Randy. Uh, you might. Yeah. You're all right. You're not a white Knight. Um,
- 24:11do shit yourself, you know, and you know, she, Huk is, is all about that,
- 24:15you know? And, um, she.
- 24:19But isn't that, doesn't it follow the book to it?
- 24:22Uh, it did follows very closely cause uh,
- 24:25she Hulk's been breaking the fourth wall since John burn, uh,
- 24:29took over her book. Uh, there, the second incarnation it's uh,
- 24:34there was a Savage, she Hulk then sensational, she Hulk. And then it's uh,
- 24:37she Hulk attorney law.
- 24:40Are they mad about the fourth wall?
- 24:42They, they think that it's a Deadpool thing, which it's no,
- 24:46it was always, it was more of a, she Huk thing.
- 24:50It was a smokey in the bandit first.
- 24:51I it's it's in every, but people get yourself about stuff.
- 24:56And then you find out that, you know,
- 24:57people come in and start bitching at me about how she Huk is woke and yada,
- 25:02yada, yada didn't even watch the show and I'm like, go fuck yourself. Um,
- 25:06again from Jersey go. And I don't say that to my customers. I say it,
- 25:11walk out the door. Um,
- 25:12but I hear that a lot about Sandman
- 25:18now. I did you watch Sandman?
- 25:21I watched the first and I didn't pick it back up. Not that it was bad.
- 25:25I just haven't picked up. I really liked.
- 25:27It. It's fantastic, Randy.
- 25:29I forgot. That was a thing I need to watch that.
- 25:31.
- 25:32There's so much other new stuff that I forgot about it.
- 25:35Plus I was in the process of moving and so I'm behind on everything.
- 25:38All right. Good enough. So that's on your queue now? Um, they'll,
- 25:42they'll see the discs cuz that's what Netflix does,
- 25:44but it's people are calling it woke and I'm like mother
- 25:49or no, it's not woke how the,
- 25:52this was written 25 years ago. How can it bitten 90?
- 25:58No. Yeah, it was written 30 years ago. Jackasses. It was written 30 years ago.
- 26:02How can it be woke? He was ahead of the curve.
- 26:05He was so far ahead of the curve that this is now.
- 26:10Now the rest of society is catching up to Neil Gaon so G good
- 26:15on you, Neil. I,
- 26:16I hope that Sam gets a second season cuz it was
- 26:21brilliant. It is.
- 26:23Visually, visually it was stunning like.
- 26:25Amazingly welled. Well, I mean,
- 26:28well cast people who were bitching about the young lady who plays death
- 26:33a again from Jersey. Fuck you that's yeah. It's she,
- 26:37she was pitched. Perfect. You could not find a better death.
- 26:43My one buddy's trying to get me to watch the Alfred was.
- 26:45Pennyworth I heard that was good. Yeah.
- 26:48He said it was phenomenal there. I guess there's a new season. I'm like crap.
- 26:51Another thing I gotta catch up with there's so much.
- 26:52They're coming out with something called Gotham nights with Miesha Collins and
- 26:56uh, I'm sure a whole bunch of Miesha Collins from, um, he played cast in.
- 27:02Supernatural's like Baywatch nights with I work at a night.
- 27:04Club. That'd be cool. Oh yeah. Yeah. Cast yell, uh, working in a nightclub.
- 27:11that was so bad. So now here's the thing like, are you a,
- 27:16are you a letter Kenny fan?
- 27:17No, I, you know what? I never got into letter Kenny and um, mainly because I,
- 27:22I usually binge stuff with my wife, like, like most of us, um,
- 27:27but she's,
- 27:28she's definitely like more of a to thing.
- 27:32She does her, you know, the, the rings of power and that's that's her shtick.
- 27:38Um,
- 27:39but I never got into letter Kenny mainly because I could,
- 27:44I could never tear away for like more than, you know, an hour to,
- 27:48to watch anything.
- 27:50See now when they dropped Shorey, in my opinion,
- 27:54Shorey was I par with Kenny powers and if anyone knows me,
- 27:58like Kenny powers like Elvis to me and like Shorey was like the most
- 28:02perfect show. Like you can get through it in, you know, four,
- 28:07three hours. Okay. The whole season. Um, and uh,
- 28:11and that's something you definitely don't wanna watch with your wife.
- 28:13It's a lot of your mom clap backs and it's a lot of, you know, um,
- 28:16it's guy to it's guy humor. But if you like, if you like, it's always sunny,
- 28:20like that kind banter. Yeah. If you like, like it's always,
- 28:25it's like the perfect it's like the Canadian accompaniment.
- 28:28Fantastic. And you know what, I'll actually watch it with my youngest son.
- 28:32Cause he's just one of he's he's got that sensibility
- 28:37about him.
- 28:39So like sure. He, between every period, you know, when they're playing hockey,
- 28:42he's gotta take a dump. So on the coaches yelling at him,
- 28:45he's dropping ass and then doing your mom clap X and just it's.
- 28:48Okay, cool. Now something I gotta watch.
- 28:52I see. Yeah. The, the poop humor sold me um.
- 28:56So.
- 28:57So I, I, you know,
- 28:58you brought up something interesting about working in the comic book store and
- 29:01uh, you know, we always used to joke, there was like the, you know, the,
- 29:04the comedians used to always rat on like the guys working at the harmony house
- 29:07going, oh, Richard Marks used to listen to that shit. You know,
- 29:11where there's always like that, that, you know,
- 29:13I know you don't thumb down on anyone,
- 29:15but like what do you have to at certain points when you got those people coming
- 29:19in complaining about characters, you got nothing to do with.
- 29:22Oh, then that happens like on a almost daily basis. But yeah,
- 29:26I just let 'em float off my back. It's mostly it's yeah.
- 29:29Whatever I get it. I, I feel that's, Hey,
- 29:34if I make the sale, I'm, I'm a hundred percent happy.
- 29:39Right, right. But I'm just like you, and I just imagine all day,
- 29:43not that you're in hell, but it's like comic book guy going in episode four of,
- 29:48you know, the, he, the scene was not written accurately to, you know, whatever.
- 29:52We get them all the time and yeah.
- 29:54I get people coming in and we're actually most of the time,
- 29:58they're huge fans of either Kevin and Jay or
- 30:03comic book men, which I, I, you know, what it's,
- 30:06it makes me feel great that, um,
- 30:09during the great pandemic of 2020,
- 30:13that so many people went back and re rewatched and re re
- 30:17rewatched comic book men. And I was like that, that makes me happy.
- 30:22You know, we were able to help people through the pandemic.
- 30:27It was a fun show. I mean, we had, uh, you were our, for the,
- 30:31you were the Jersey to our hardcore pond, which.
- 30:35Yeah. And I never met those people.
- 30:39We were weren't they supposed to be at, uh, the con we were at over in, uh,
- 30:45God, where was it? It was the, uh, the, oh, I'm blanking on the name.
- 30:51Mom. Clemens. Yes.
- 30:53Yeah. Gibralter.
- 30:54Yeah. Yeah. All.
- 30:55My.
- 30:56So we had, uh, we had Ashley in studio with us a couple times and uh,
- 31:00I got to go into their store.
- 31:02So their stores at old bowling alley on eight mile and
- 31:07I'm walked through and it's nothing like on TV, like it's kind of looks like a,
- 31:10like a, like a ratty flea market.
- 31:13Cause all the good stuff's been it's in the back pond. It's nothing's for sale.
- 31:17And I see this Jager surfboard up against the
- 31:22wall and I'm like, how much you want for it? And he goes, sticker says 500.
- 31:26I go, I go, ah, I'm not doing it for 500. They go, what do you gimme for it?
- 31:30I go, I don't know, a hundred bucks. She goes in the back room. She's like sold.
- 31:35So I walk out with this giant Jagermeister surfboard and I'm like,
- 31:38why that was even made to begin with. I have no idea,
- 31:40but it's sitting right next to me next to my flash Gordon painting and my Rodney
- 31:43Dangerfield tie.
- 31:44That's fantastic. Cuz I love, uh, used to love Jagermeister. So yeah.
- 31:52It's Octoberfest season.
- 31:54Right now. Of course. And it's also, uh, cold and flu season. So Jagermeister,
- 31:58um, you know, NyQuil, same thing.
- 32:02That was, uh, that was when I was eight years old. Mamy I don't feel good.
- 32:06Half shot Yager. Yeah. It can't be a, it can't be good. So, um,
- 32:11you're running in the store now. Uh, this, oh yeah. Good stash. Right?
- 32:15You're the, you're the, you're the head cheese, the main, the head honcho.
- 32:18That's for damn sure.
- 32:20Yeah. Yeah. So, I mean,
- 32:24what do do you guys have to,
- 32:25you guys have to be one step ahead or like comic book stores,
- 32:29like some of 'em have their own different flavors kind of what,
- 32:31based on like what they, like, what they know, what they're good at. Like,
- 32:35you know, obviously your shtick is Ja Jane sound Bob, right. But like, you know,
- 32:38in of like product content,
- 32:40like what are you guys like moving into like more this than that? Or, you know,
- 32:45are you just pretty much.
- 32:46We're uh, you know, we go for what sells, but you know, um,
- 32:50right now Kevin just kicked off, um,
- 32:53the secret stash press imprint, which is, uh,
- 32:57Kevin Kevin's like, um, Frank Miller,
- 33:02John burn, and a couple of other creators and Mike Magnolia,
- 33:07the Frank Miller in,
- 33:09in the fact that he's got his own imprint over at dark horse. So,
- 33:14uh, Kevin just came out with his first issue of maade,
- 33:18which is, um, it's, it's a superhero,
- 33:22very violent superhero, uh, story. Um, and,
- 33:26and you would dig it because it's in a Detroit que kind of city.
- 33:31And um, so they're going.
- 33:35Is that a play way to say shit?
- 33:37I said Detroit que city and I never said, I love Detroit. I don't think Detroit.
- 33:43I know you do it.
- 33:44Is so much. And I can't wait till, um, more people are like, Hey,
- 33:48Detroit's coming back. It's like, yeah, douche bag.
- 33:50It's been coming back for like the past 20 years where you, um.
- 33:55I got a whole, I got whole team from Texas coming up for work tomorrow and I,
- 33:59I open up my big mouth and now I gotta take 'em to all those dive bars and pizza.
- 34:03It. Uh, but yeah, this is, uh, Kevin Zim print.
- 34:07It's a really cool concept for, uh, a comic book for,
- 34:12for a superhero comic book, violent superhero, but superhero, nonetheless.
- 34:16And then, uh, we've got, uh, quick stops coming out in two months,
- 34:21which is, um, quick stops is,
- 34:25um,
- 34:27you get to go back and visit with some old friends at the quick stop.
- 34:35It can never be wrong. And it's.
- 34:38That store's open. Right. So when we come out there is that, oh.
- 34:41Yeah. Oh yeah, you can go there. Yeah, absolutely. You.
- 34:45How now I, how many assholes, uh,
- 34:49mess with the milk and the eggs and all that is, is that in like truly,
- 34:52is that a thing?
- 34:54I mean, I don't go there and I don't Jack, but I,
- 34:56I have no doubt in my mind every day.
- 35:00Kinda like, uh, when I walked up to Lacey underalls at the Macon and I said,
- 35:04you know, Novi must be a nice change from dreary old Manhattan.
- 35:07And she looked at me like an alien, like, and I go, I go, I thought Ja.
- 35:13Looks fantastic. Think Morgan looks amazing. Um,
- 35:18she hit, there was a, I think it was about eight or nine years ago.
- 35:24Um, I, I was supposed to podcast whether down in, um,
- 35:29where the hell was, it was down in Florida,
- 35:31down in Miami and she had to bow out because she was, you know,
- 35:35just busy as all hell. And, uh, I was supposed to podcast with her later on.
- 35:40It never happened, but she was a, a, it was really weird because she, um,
- 35:47and she's a beautiful woman. Uh, she dropped it gorgeous.
- 35:52She was a little puffy back then. And now she's like, boom, it's,
- 35:56she's gorgeous again at like eight years later,
- 36:00six 60, however old, she is like six.
- 36:06Yeah, the whole,
- 36:07the whole Madonna with meatballs that didn't rolled her eyes at that one too.
- 36:09I'm like, I thought that was.
- 36:11Original. I am throwing out my greatest TIS here, Lacey, what's going like, uh,
- 36:14first off, my name is Cindy. Uh,
- 36:17you're on that podcast with that guy who said I would look puffy eight years is
- 36:21a Dick. Um, shit, just a, a gorgeous woman.
- 36:26So yeah.
- 36:28So how do the, I mean,
- 36:29the working at that store and asking for Chewy's gum or like doing one
- 36:34liners, they got it like at, at the end of the day, just like, almost like, uh,
- 36:37the one scenery, uh, where Dante or no, uh, the spits on him,
- 36:41like Randall spits on him.
- 36:43I guess. I personally, I I'm at the comic shop. So that,
- 36:47that works for me. I'm, I'm fine with that.
- 36:51Well, I look forward to, uh, seeing you person, hell, it's been a while. Great.
- 36:55Um, yeah, looking forward to, uh, spending time, but you know,
- 36:59I'll cut you loose, man. I, I can't thank you enough for recording with us.
- 37:02And uh, you know, always, always enjoy.
- 37:04Of course, Bob, you too, Randy, even though Randy from, uh, next time,
- 37:09next time we do this, can you shut the up for just a minute?
- 37:13my.
- 37:14Head is pounding.
- 37:15I'll jump in and I have something to say,
- 37:17but Bob usually leads these conversations.
- 37:19Mike, at the last networking thing, Randy was holding court.
- 37:22I was so proud of him.
- 37:23He's like had his own little group and he's holding court.
- 37:25It was so nice to watch that.
- 37:27You're like a proud Papa.
- 37:29I was, I was our little Randy. Oh, girls up yo girls up. Um, but Hey,
- 37:34we're gonna wrap things up for this episode at 4 46, Mike Zick.
