Latest / Astral Gateway / The Third Step to Astral Projection: Exit Techniques
Transcript
- 0:15Hi, welcome back to the Astro Gateway Podcast.
- 0:19I'm Nurith Weiss Devicione. In the previous episode, we
- 0:22talked about the second step of Astro projection, creating
- 0:26focus. Before that, we looked at
- 0:29relaxation and how allowing the body to settle while keeping the
- 0:33mind gently aware creates the right conditions for the
- 0:37experience to unfold. If you've been practicing those
- 0:41two steps together, you might have started noticing something
- 0:44interesting. Maybe your body begins to feel
- 0:48distant or heavy. Maybe your breathing changes and
- 0:53seems to take over by itself. Or maybe you simply find
- 0:58yourself in a very quiet state where you're deeply relaxed, but
- 1:02you're still aware of what's happening.
- 1:05That's exactly where today's episodes begin.
- 1:09Because after relaxation and after creating focus comes the
- 1:13next part of the process. Know when it's time to leave the
- 1:17body. This is the point where many
- 1:21people either become excited and pull themselves out of the
- 1:24experience, or they assume something unusual is happening
- 1:28and stop the process before it has a chance to develop.
- 1:32The truth is that what's happening is usually very
- 1:36natural. Your body is moving towards
- 1:38sleep. Your awareness is staying
- 1:41present, and because you're remaining conscious through the
- 1:45process that normally happens unconsciously every night, you
- 1:49begin noticing things that most people simply sleep through.
- 1:53That's why this stage can feel unfamiliar at first, not because
- 1:58something strange is happening, but because you're awake to it.
- 2:03One of the most common experiences people talk about at
- 2:06this stage is vibrations. Now, not everyone will
- 2:10experience them, and they don't always feel the same, but
- 2:14they're common enough that it's worth understanding what they
- 2:18are and how to work with them instead of reacting to them.
- 2:23And that's what I'd like to spend some time talking about
- 2:26today. Because once you understand the
- 2:30stage, everything starts making a lot more sense.
- 2:33OK, so let's talk about the vibrations themselves.
- 2:37People describe them in all sorts of way.
- 2:40Some people feel a gentle humming moving through the body.
- 2:44Others describe it as buzzing, almost like standing near a
- 2:47powerful electrical current. Some feel waves moving through
- 2:51their feet toward the head, or from the head down through the
- 2:55rest of the body. For some people, it's very
- 2:59subtle. For others, it's incredibly
- 3:02strong. You might even hear sounds.
- 3:05A loud buzzing, a ringing, a rushing noise.
- 3:09Some people hear what sounds like static.
- 3:13Others hear voices or snippets of conversations that seem
- 3:17completely random. If you've ever experienced
- 3:20anything like that before, it could be surprising, but these
- 3:25kinds of sensations have been reported by people for a very
- 3:29long time, and they're a very natural part of the transition
- 3:32for many people. The important thing to remember
- 3:36is that not everyone experiences vibrations.
- 3:42Sometimes the transition is so gentle that you simply find
- 3:46yourself outside your body without noticing much
- 3:49beforehand, and sometimes it's somewhere in between.
- 3:53So don't use vibrations as a test to decide whether you're
- 3:57making progress. There's simply one possible sign
- 4:01that your body is deeply relaxed while your awareness remains
- 4:04present. The other thing I'd like to
- 4:07mention is that the vibrations themselves are not the goal.
- 4:11Sometimes people become so focused on trying to make them
- 4:14stronger that they forget what they're actually trying to do.
- 4:19The vibrations are not the experience, they're simply part
- 4:22of the process. For many people, it's a little
- 4:25like sitting on a runway waiting for a plane to take off.
- 4:28You don't bore the plane just to stay on the runway.
- 4:32Eventually you want the journey to begin.
- 4:34The same applies here. If vibrations come, notice them,
- 4:38allow them, stay with them, but don't become attached to them.
- 4:43Now, the biggest thing that interrupts this stage is usually
- 4:47your own reaction. The first time it happens, it's
- 4:51very common to think this is it, and the moment that excitement
- 4:55comes in, everything stops. The heart rate changes, your
- 5:00attention jumps back into the physical body and you're fully
- 5:03awake again. The opposite can happen too.
- 5:06Sometimes people feel the vibrations beginning and think
- 5:10something is wrong. The sensations feel unfamiliar
- 5:13and fear naturally comes up again.
- 5:16The body wakes up completely and the experience ends.
- 5:20So what's the answer, really? It's much simpler than people
- 5:25think. Just let it happen.
- 5:28You don't have to make the vibration stronger.
- 5:31You don't have to analyze them. You don't have to wonder whether
- 5:35they're real enough. You simply stay present.
- 5:40Let them move through you without trying to control them.
- 5:43Almost like listening to rain outside your window.
- 5:47You're aware of it, but you're not doing anything with it.
- 5:51The more relaxed you are, the more naturally the process
- 5:54continues, and something interesting happens over time.
- 5:58The first few times, the vibrations might feel intense,
- 6:02maybe even overwhelming. But after you've experienced
- 6:06them enough, they start feeling familiar.
- 6:09You recognize them. You know where they're leading.
- 6:13Instead of wondering what's happening, you simply settle
- 6:16into them. For many people, including
- 6:19myself, that strange stage eventually becomes deeply
- 6:24peaceful, sometimes even blissful.
- 6:28After you've gone through it a few times, it all starts to feel
- 6:31familiar. And then instead of thinking
- 6:34what's happening, you think, OK, here we go.
- 6:37And you stay relaxed, stay aware, and let the experience
- 6:41continue on its own. So when do you actually use an
- 6:47exit technique? This is probably one of the
- 6:50questions I get asked the most. People often ask when should I
- 6:55try to roll out? Or when should I imagine
- 6:58floating? Or should I wait for vibrations
- 7:01first? The truth is, there isn't one
- 7:04exact moment that's the same for everybody.
- 7:08Over time, you start to recognize it it It's almost like
- 7:11your awareness reaches a tipping point.
- 7:14Your body feels very distant. Your mind is clear.
- 7:19Sometimes the vibrations are there, sometimes they are not
- 7:22there, but there's a feeling that something has shifted.
- 7:26That's usually when it's time to begin.
- 7:30And here's something I think is really important.
- 7:33And exit technique isn't about forcing yourself out of the
- 7:37body. You're not trying to pull
- 7:39yourself out with effort. You're simply given your
- 7:42awareness, a direction to move in.
- 7:45That's all. Think of it like imagining
- 7:48yourself walking. If I asked you right now to
- 7:51imagine taking a few steps through your living room, you
- 7:55could probably do it instantly. You're not moving your physical
- 7:58legs, you're imagining movement. And that's exactly what we're
- 8:02doing here. The only difference is that your
- 8:05body is now deeply relaxed, and your awareness is much closer to
- 8:10that threshold between waking and sleep.
- 8:13So the imagine movement can begin to feel incredibly real,
- 8:18and sometimes so real that it no longer feels imagined at all.
- 8:22That's when the experience starts unfolding.
- 8:26There are quite a few exit techniques, but they're all
- 8:29built around the same idea. They simply give awareness
- 8:33somewhere to go. One of the most well known is
- 8:38the rolling technique. You imagine slowly rolling out
- 8:42of bed. Not physically of course, just
- 8:45mentally. Don't think about your muscles,
- 8:48don't wonder if you're actually moving, simply imagine yourself
- 8:53rolling onto the floor beside your bed.
- 8:57At first it might feel like nothing is happening.
- 9:00Then suddenly the movement starts to take on life on its
- 9:03own. Another technique is sitting up.
- 9:08Again, you're not using your physical body, you simply
- 9:11imagine yourself sitting up naturally.
- 9:14Some people find this easier because it's such a familiar
- 9:17movement. You don't need to see yourself
- 9:20doing it, just feel yourself sitting up.
- 9:25Sometimes that's enough for the separation to happen almost
- 9:28effortlessly. Another method is floating.
- 9:33Imagine yourself becoming lighter and lighter, as though
- 9:39gravity is slowly losing its grip.
- 9:42You might imagine floating toward the ceiling or gently
- 9:46lifting upward, almost like a balloon.
- 9:49Don't force the sensation, just stay with the feeling of
- 9:53becoming lighter. Sometimes you'll notice that the
- 9:56floating begins on its own. You may even feel yourself
- 10:00gently swaying or drifting. If that happens, simply go with
- 10:04it. Another popular technique is the
- 10:08rope technique. Imagine there's a rope hanging
- 10:12above you. Without moving your physical
- 10:15arms, imagine reaching up and climbing it.
- 10:19Feel each hand moving. Feel yourself pulling upward.
- 10:24The movement itself becomes the focus.
- 10:28Sometimes, after only a few imagined pools, you'll notice
- 10:32that your awareness feels like it's rising independently of
- 10:37your physical body. Some people imagine walking
- 10:41through a doorway. Others imagine moving through a
- 10:44window or simply drifting forward into the room.
- 10:50The exact image doesn't matter very much.
- 10:53What matters is that it feels natural to you.
- 10:57Remember what we talked about in the previous episode?
- 11:01Different people connect with different kinds of imagination.
- 11:05Some people are naturally visual, some connect more with
- 11:09movement, some hardly visualize anything at all, but can
- 11:14strongly feel imagined motion. There's no single right way.
- 11:19Use whatever feels the most natural for your own mind.
- 11:24And here's something else I've learnt over the years.
- 11:28Sometimes you don't even need an exit technique.
- 11:31Sometimes, once you're deeply relaxed and your awareness is
- 11:35steady, separation simply happens.
- 11:39You suddenly realize you're floating, or standing beside
- 11:43your bed, or walking through your house.
- 11:46It can happen so naturally that afterwards you wonder exactly
- 11:50when it started. That's completely normal to the
- 11:53techniques aren't creating the experience, they're simply
- 11:57helping awareness make the final transition.
- 12:01So don't become attached to one particular technique.
- 12:05If rolling doesn't feel natural, try floating.
- 12:08If floating doesn't work for you, maybe sitting up does.
- 12:12Just experiment. Stay curious.
- 12:15Over time, you'll discover which approach your mind responds to
- 12:19most easily, and once you find one that clicks, you'll probably
- 12:24find yourself returning to it again and again.
- 12:28So let's just bring everything together.
- 12:31The process really isn't as complicated as it sometimes
- 12:34seems. First, you relax the body, then
- 12:38you give the mind something simple to focus on.
- 12:42As you stay with that focus, the body continues drifting towards
- 12:46sleep while your awareness stays present.
- 12:50At some point, you may begin to notice that something is
- 12:54changing. Maybe it's vibrations, maybe
- 12:57it's a feeling of floating, maybe your body suddenly feels
- 13:01incredibly distant. Whatever it is, you don't have
- 13:04to chase it. Just stay with it.
- 13:07And when the moment feels right, simply allow your awareness to
- 13:11move through one of the exit techniques we talked about
- 13:15today. Some nights it will happen, some
- 13:18nights it won't. And that's perfectly fine.
- 13:22Every time you practice, you're becoming more familiar with the
- 13:25process. You're learning how your own
- 13:28mind works. You're learning what helps you
- 13:30relax, what helps you stay aware, and what helps you make
- 13:35that final transition. That familiarity is one of the
- 13:39biggest teachers you can have. Now, before we finish, I just
- 13:43want to thank you for joining me over these last few episodes.
- 13:47We've now covered the three foundations of astral
- 13:49projection, relaxation, creating focus, and the transition into
- 13:54separation using exit techniques.
- 13:57Everything else builds from here.
- 13:59In the next episode, I'd like to answer some of the questions
- 14:02that come up most often. Things like sleep paralysis,
- 14:05fear, what to do if nothing seems to happen, and some of the
- 14:10experiences you might have along the way.
- 14:12So if you've been wondering about any of those things, we'll
- 14:15explore them together next time. And if you'd like to continue
- 14:19learning and connect with others exploring these experiences, I'd
- 14:23love for you to join the Astral Gateway community on Facebook.
- 14:28You'll also find some useful links in the episode description
- 14:31if you'd like to explore these techniques in more depth.
- 14:35Thank you so much for listening. Until next time, stay present,
- 14:39stay curious, and keep exploring.
- 14:42Take care.
