- 0:00Speaker 1: On this edition of One Leg Up with Alex Scarett.

- 1:22Speaker 1: Well here on the one loog Up Network, I'm Alex Garrett,
- 1:25Speaker 1: and today it was a bit of running around. You know,
- 1:27Speaker 1: I'm trying to do as much as I can before
- 1:29Speaker 1: the Christmas eve Day hits and Christmas Day hits, so
- 1:33Speaker 1: we won't be on the podcast the next couple of days.
- 1:37Speaker 1: But the real running around I wanted to do I
- 1:39Speaker 1: got done today and that was to visit the plaque
- 1:43Speaker 1: that has now memorialized my father at Good Shepherd, Weehawk
- 1:47Speaker 1: and Lutheran Church. And it was really special to get
- 1:51Speaker 1: to see the plaque and leave him a special little
- 1:55Speaker 1: Christmas message which you could find at Alex g NYC. One.
- 2:00Speaker 1: You know, running around on Christmas Eve. Christmas Day was
- 2:03Speaker 1: sort of my dad's thing, so I figured, why not
- 2:06Speaker 1: do it the day before, because Tomorrow, as I said,
- 2:09Speaker 1: and Wednesday, I'd like to just relax, Yeah, work a
- 2:12Speaker 1: little bit for Christmas Eve, and then truly enjoy Christmas Day.
- 2:17Speaker 1: Gabby is recovering nicely from her procedure, and thank you
- 2:21Speaker 1: for all your prayers and kind words and thoughts over
- 2:25Speaker 1: the last week or so. But yeah, to see wee
- 2:29Speaker 1: Hawking Lutheran Church, the Grid Shepherd Lutheran Church or we
- 2:33Speaker 1: Hawking continue the spirit and the celebration of and we
- 2:38Speaker 1: talk about foundation yesterday of Christmas. Well, one Berga Solano
- 2:46Speaker 1: laid down that foundation almost thirty years or more ago,
- 2:52Speaker 1: and though she's been retired and moved back home to
- 2:54Speaker 1: Germany for five years, I'm proud to report that spirit
- 2:58Speaker 1: is alive at Good Shepherd, Weehawk and Lutheran Church, the
- 3:02Speaker 1: spirit of Christmas thanks to those like Sarah Lee Lowe
- 3:07Speaker 1: and Liam Backsmeyer as well as Marjorie and Dennis Finnen,
- 3:14Speaker 1: and I wish them all a merry Christmas as well
- 3:17Speaker 1: in their families. It's like a community. And my dad
- 3:22Speaker 1: raised me in that small town kind of feel though
- 3:25Speaker 1: we got to meet big people over the years, right
- 3:28Speaker 1: mister Steinbrenner and President Clinton. I was just thinking today
- 3:31Speaker 1: in that beautiful one hundred plus year old church in
- 3:36Speaker 1: Weehawk and New Jersey, my dad, though he met all
- 3:39Speaker 1: these big people, kept it sort of small town for
- 3:42Speaker 1: us around the holidays. And I really appreciate that because
- 3:45Speaker 1: I feel like I've carried that hometown feel of going
- 3:48Speaker 1: to your mom and Vic during the Thanksgiving week and
- 3:52Speaker 1: then of course on Wednesday, will be visiting with them
- 3:54Speaker 1: on Christmas Day. And while Gaby and I are living together,
- 3:58Speaker 1: we're keeping it small town with their family, with her
- 4:01Speaker 1: family as well. But that was instilled in me at
- 4:05Speaker 1: a very young age when we went to a local church,
- 4:08Speaker 1: and that local church has been a foundation for my
- 4:13Speaker 1: growing up, just like the synagogue with rabbi government. And
- 4:20Speaker 1: I think it's perfect that there is a Christmas Hanukkah
- 4:23Speaker 1: crossover this year, as Honkah starts on Christmas Day, and
- 4:28Speaker 1: Jesus was Jewish. That's why it's so powerful. He was Jewish.
- 4:34Speaker 1: He was we're honoring his birthday and we're honoring a
- 4:40Speaker 1: tradition that he most likely partook in as a kid
- 4:43Speaker 1: in Honukkah, and so I love it when Christmas and
- 4:50Speaker 1: Hanukah even Eastern Passover crossover because you know, the First
- 4:56Speaker 1: Supper is also because you know, the Last Supper is
- 5:01Speaker 1: also a passover sator. I mean, that's how I always
- 5:03Speaker 1: think of it as. So the connection is real, and
- 5:09Speaker 1: I think it's a powerful way to end twenty twenty
- 5:12Speaker 1: four and a very powerful way to begin twenty twenty
- 5:18Speaker 1: five with this crossover a week before the new year.
- 5:24Speaker 1: And then this we are about twenty eight days away
- 5:28Speaker 1: now from President Biden's presidency ending. So my challenge to
- 5:33Speaker 1: you here at the one Leg Up Network is this
- 5:37Speaker 1: to email me at Alex at ALEXGNYC dot com to
- 5:42Speaker 1: identify identify one or two good things that came out
- 5:47Speaker 1: of the Biden administration from where you sit. Alex at
- 5:51Speaker 1: ALEXGNYC dot com. Just give me one or two things
- 5:56Speaker 1: from where you sit, and I'll mention on the air
- 6:00Speaker 1: before the new year. How does that sound. I'll mention
- 6:02Speaker 1: the new year before the end on the show before
- 6:04Speaker 1: the new year. But now twenty eight days left under
- 6:10Speaker 1: a month away from the Biden presidency ending, and I
- 6:13Speaker 1: do think that's a Christmas gift to all, and I'm
- 6:17Speaker 1: not afraid to say that here on Alex Scarrett's One
- 6:20Speaker 1: Leg Up Network. And then here's one piece of one
- 6:23Speaker 1: Leg Up on news that you may not know about
- 6:28Speaker 1: the USO, which has been established forever thanks to Bob
- 6:33Speaker 1: Hope and his ingenious idea that we should honor the
- 6:38Speaker 1: troops and perform for them to give them spirit to
- 6:43Speaker 1: lighten their spirits during times like this during the Christmas season,
- 6:47Speaker 1: the USO send this out to their Instagram followers and
- 6:51Speaker 1: I just jumped on it. They've set a goal to
- 6:54Speaker 1: reach one hundred thousand signatures on their holiday card before
- 6:59Speaker 1: midnight deadline on Christmas Eve to bring our service members
- 7:03Speaker 1: a touch of warmth during the coldest and most difficult
- 7:08Speaker 1: time of year to serve. I'm going to drop this
- 7:11Speaker 1: link below. Don't miss the chance to show your appreciation
- 7:14Speaker 1: to our service members for the sacrifices they make all
- 7:18Speaker 1: year round to serve our country. It's very special that
- 7:21Speaker 1: they've set this goal. It's very special that people continue
- 7:24Speaker 1: to support the USO. But I want to help them
- 7:27Speaker 1: reach their goal one hundred thousand signatures for our service
- 7:32Speaker 1: members to brighten their spirits. This Christmas season. I could
- 7:37Speaker 1: talk about what happened on that horrible burning of the
- 7:42Speaker 1: woman alive by an illegal immigrant. I could talk about
- 7:45Speaker 1: how I believe if Daniel Penny was there, that might
- 7:49Speaker 1: not have happened. Instead of getting in depth on that,
- 7:52Speaker 1: Let's do something good this Christmas season. Let's support our
- 7:56Speaker 1: troops and thank our troops by supporting the USO's effort
- 8:01Speaker 1: to create a holiday card and make one hundred thousand
- 8:05Speaker 1: signatures before their Christmas Eve deadline. It's Christmas Eve. The
- 8:13Speaker 1: news should be turned aside, put aside, and we should
- 8:18Speaker 1: focus on the beauty that is the gift of giving
- 8:25Speaker 1: this Christmas season. So thank you USO and to all
- 8:30Speaker 1: the organizations out there for continuing to give back and
- 8:37Speaker 1: for those who support those efforts to give to those
- 8:40Speaker 1: community efforts that the USO does, that, the Viscardi Center
- 8:44Speaker 1: does that, and I believe there's around variety of the
- 8:47Speaker 1: New York Children charity that Ronald McDonald House does. I mean,
- 8:50Speaker 1: they've had incredible holiday Christmas parties at the ron McDonald House.
- 8:56Speaker 1: My dad and I were privileged to go to and
- 8:59Speaker 1: had the honor of going to and to see the
- 9:02Speaker 1: smiles on these kids' faces at Christmas time nothing like it.
- 9:07Speaker 1: Whomever you support, continue to and if you add a
- 9:10Speaker 1: few more organizations along the way, round the applause for
- 9:16Speaker 1: you for continuing to give your time, yes, your money,
- 9:21Speaker 1: and your energy to make sure or these organizations like
- 9:25Speaker 1: the USO continue to do the work that I believe
- 9:30Speaker 1: God intended them to do on the Oneling Up Network.
- 9:36Speaker 1: Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah, and thank God for the
- 9:41Speaker 1: crossover to end the year.
- 9:45Speaker 2: Maybe one day these USO shows will no longer be necessary.
- 9:48Speaker 2: Our world will be at peace. It may take a miracle,
- 9:51Speaker 2: but after all, isn't that what Christmas is all about.
- 9:54Speaker 2: We join these servicemen and women in a Christmas prayer
- 9:58Speaker 2: that soon they'll be able to leave their lonely outposts.
- 10:01Speaker 2: Peace on earth and goodwill toward men will replaced the
- 10:04Speaker 2: threat of war everywhere. I'm sure that each of you
- 10:07Speaker 2: echoes at fervent wish. Thank you, ladies and gentlemen, and
- 10:11Speaker 2: good night.
