- 2:43on x the artist formerly known as Twitter. I do have a guest thought
- 2:46this week, and it's actually my producer Hollywood, Jeff Petty. We're going
- 2:49to get to know him a little bit later on. But we got Hannah
- 2:53Gardner with the Canals, Charles Newmain Association with our not Me Police pett of
- 2:55the week, We've got a candidate announcement. Normally don't do this sort of
- 2:59thing Friday, but they asked specifically for this, so someone's going to come
- 3:02on the show to announce they are running for office and what office that is.
- 3:07That's coming up a little bit later on. Adam Harris is going to
- 3:08be stopping by to talk about this big wrestling event. It's like Plaza and
- 3:12Chris Lawrence is here. Now, Chris, how are you man? I
- 3:15am not announcing I'm running for office? Well, the world would be a
- 3:19better place if you did, indeed, running that would be I'd be a
- 3:22big negative. No, I'm I'm not interested in public service. Dear circus
- 3:27in every pot. That's what we would have with Chris Lawrence Ray high school
- 3:30football. We have, we got a time. What do we got,
- 3:34Well, we've got the opening of Husky Stadium and Herbert who were high school.
- 3:38Of course, we were there a few weeks ago and Brad Paisley was
- 3:40there to celebrate the opening of the whole complex and they had the John Marshall's
- 3:45Scrimmage, but that was just a scrimmage. Tonight will be the first game
- 3:47at Husky Stadium as Nitro at two and o and coming off that big win
- 3:52over Saint Alban's last week, we'll be on the road. That was a
- 3:54record setting performance. About their quarterback Josh Moody last week. He'll try to
- 3:59replicate that night when they faced the Huskies at Elk View and Herbert Hoover is
- 4:03O and two. They need to rebound. Keep in mind, though,
- 4:06that when these two met up last year, it was the identical. It
- 4:10was oh and to Herbert Hoover who went on a winning streak and went all
- 4:13the way to Wheeling before they lost again. And it's a derailed Nitro's season.
- 4:17So I'm sure that Nitro would like to reverse that and Hoover would like
- 4:21to get back on the winning track and replicate what they did a year ago.
- 4:25We'll be on the air at six thirty and the kickoff from OTE tonight
- 4:29is seven o'clock at Husky Stadium, and after the game stick aground for Fred
- 4:31and Dave. They will have all the scores, get reports from games all
- 4:34over West Virginia and Metro News game nights. Speaking of scores, what do
- 4:39you make of all these high scoring games? We had everybody else's weighting on
- 4:43it. What about the guy that actually calls the games? What do you
- 4:45think? I didn't like the idea of the transfer rule when it was implemented,
- 4:49even though a lot of that had been going on for many years.
- 4:51Yes, I realized that there are blowouts, and there have been for many
- 4:55years. Just don't recall having that many and scores that upsided, you know
- 5:01at a time. I mean, you're getting four and five a week.
- 5:03It used to be like one team was blowing out everybody they played, but
- 5:06the rest of them are fairly competitive. So I figured it was going to
- 5:12be a problem when they passed it and here we are. Yeah. So,
- 5:15and I don't know how you fix it now. Well, Dad Dana
- 5:18Farrell on the show yesterday down to get Dana Farrell, who's a long time
- 5:21educator and very involved in the world of high school broadcasting sports. And you
- 5:25know, he says that come new session that he is going to do everything
- 5:29he can to reverse this, and that he's got some support. The problem
- 5:32is the I guarantee you that lawmakers are hearing about this. If you if
- 5:38you want to touch something that is near and dear to the heart of your
- 5:41constituents, high school sports, especially football, will get their attention a lot
- 5:46faster than anything else you do. Yeah, you're right about that. So
- 5:47what do we have on Westernginia Outdoors tomorrow morning. Well, tomorrow the DNR
- 5:53is celebrating National Hunting and Fishing Data at the Summit pect Or Reserve. Well
- 5:56of DNR Director, I'm a million on to about that tomorrow morning. And
- 6:01my good friends down with the Friends of the tug Fork River have spent this
- 6:04week knee deep in the tug Fork picking up tars and they've they've collected about
- 6:11five hundred tires out of the river and they're throwing those away. They do
- 6:14that every year. It's their annual tar round up, and I'm going to
- 6:16give them a little love to come on and talk about what they've done this
- 6:18week, because they do a really great job of cleaning up the tug Fork
- 6:21River. It's amazing. There was a time when I don't think anybody would
- 6:26even have considered the thought of going near the tug Fork River. Now it's
- 6:29literally a draw for people to come into Mingo County. It is, and
- 6:32it's amazing because it's somebody who grew up in that part of the world and
- 6:34the guy and dot that runs through Logan is pretty much the same way.
- 6:38I mean, we would have never have thought about, you know, getting
- 6:41in the river for recreation, and of course the Coal River. It was
- 6:45the sort of the pioneer of this whole thing in this group down there.
- 6:47I mean they've turned that Coal River, that Coal River float trip into the
- 6:53Tour de Coal. Yeah, I mean that thing's become a national event now
- 6:56and draws thousands into the Kanawa Valley each year. So yeah, it just
- 7:00takes people buying in and instead of criticizing everything, doing something and sort of
- 7:06the Cold River group kind of led the way on that. And you're right,
- 7:09the guy and Don and the Tug and some of the other rivers like
- 7:12the Little can in places like that have jumped onto it too. So we're
- 7:15seeing a resurgence and a lot of these smaller rivers around West Virginia that are
- 7:18really beautiful rivers. If they're just giving a little bit of care and a
- 7:23little bit of promotion, a little bit of love, I mean they are
- 7:25they're an attraction to bring people to your area, and people are so many
- 7:28small towns are starting to notice that. Indy All right, Chris, you
- 7:30and mag Guitar Murphy and Jared Lewis have a great broadcast night. Fantastic to
- 7:34look forward to it and try to not cost us our license over the course
- 7:39of this hour, I'm going to do my best. Chris Lawrence again.
- 7:42You can catch him on our coverage tonight of high school football to be Nitro
- 7:45and Herbert Hoover for the all new Husky Stadium. And then after the game,
- 7:48Fred and Dave Jekling in with High School Game Night and they can join
- 7:51Chris to borrow Wanted seven to six for West Virginia Outdoors five eighty Live.

- 8:24I'm over'. I've called her twice. I've left her a voicemail. Hannah,
- 8:30if you're listening, we would like to talk to you. I'm sending
- 8:31her paying attention to the phone lines. Okay, all right, that's Hollywood.
- 8:35Jeff Petty, by the way, who you're going to get to hear
- 8:37from a little bit more a little bit later on. He's our producer,
- 8:39but apparently no hand of this morning. But this is why, Jeff,
- 8:43this is why we do our due diligence and do planning ahead of time,
- 8:46because I know all about our pet of the week, So we'll just maybe
- 8:48I know Hannah's getting ready for our cakes for Canines, which is going to
- 8:52be at the Red Carpet Lounge to now you can read a ball all about
- 8:54that on the Cana Animal Shelters social media and on their website of whatnot.
- 9:00So she's probably getting ready for that as we speak. So we'll give Hannah
- 9:03a past this week. So Jeff, just don't don't worry about Hannah,
- 9:05because I got the dog. The dog's picture is posted at Dave Allen Radio
- 9:11and Facebook and at Dave a seventy on x. The artist formerly known as
- 9:13Twitter our dog this week that we're trying to get adopted the dog, and
- 9:18we've actually featured this dog in the past. The dog's name is Ophelia,
- 9:22beautiful four year old female, and I understand that her adoption fees have been
- 9:26covered. She's taken care of. Ophelia's picture again posted online. Prefers calmer
- 9:31dogs, a very playful dog. Hannah tells me loves to play fetch with
- 9:35her tennis balls and she calls her a social butterfly. Now, she is
- 9:39a sweet girl, but she probably needs a fence in yard just because she's
- 9:46got a major energy level issue. And I don't mean that in a bad
- 9:50way. She's an energetic four year old dog. Beautiful dog. Go ahead
- 9:54and head over to a Dave Allen radio on Facebook or at Dave A seventy
- 9:58on X and you can see Ophelia's picture and she's been adopted out. She
- 10:03was adopted out once and she was brought back through no fault of her own.
- 10:05It just didn't work out, which sadly happens sometimes. But this is
- 10:09a great dog, four years old, ready to go. Adoption fees waves
- 10:13to go get Ophelia. Check out the picture right now. Also, I
- 10:16want to throw this out there. Last week's dog we had on the show,
- 10:20Jeff was a beautiful dog named Brody. I got a message on Dave
- 10:24Allen Radio and Facebook from a very nice lady who said, and I don't
- 10:28know whether Brodie's still available or not, but if Brodie is still available for
- 10:33adoption, I understand that the lady who reached out of me on Facebook said
- 10:37that she was willing to cover Brodie's adoption costs. So Brodie, if Brody
- 10:41is available, Brodie is free to a good home. So there you go,
- 10:43now again, keg for K nine is happening at the Red Carpet Lounge.
- 10:48They're already getting ready for that. If you heard Jenny Murray's traffic reports
- 10:52this morning, They've already closed down a portion of the street. This is
- 10:54a huge event at the Red Carpet Lounge. This is one of their one
- 10:58or two big things that they do every here to raise money. So it's
- 11:01Friday night after work, head on over to the Red Carpet and get ready
- 11:03to enjoy some bruise and get ready to help them raise money for the wonderful
- 11:09job that they do with the animal with the animal folks. So there you
- 11:16come, all right, So again, go I'm sorry, Jeff, I
- 11:18was nothing. I was just saying I agree with you. Go to Dave
- 11:24Allen Radio on Facebook or at Dave a seventy on X and check out the
- 11:28picture of Ophelia and let's get this dog adopt that We'll see you tonight at
- 11:33Kegs for k nines at a red carpet lounge. Phone calls to five any

- 15:41I will do that now. Normally on Fridays we would kind of like
- 15:43to keep it lighthearted, and we could still do that, but occasionally we
- 15:46have to get serious. It's like Friday's and today on the show, we
- 15:48have a candidate announcement, Ashley Dean joins us. Now, Ashley, good
- 15:52morning, welcome to the show. Great to have you here. Good morning,
- 15:54Thank you for having me. Okay, I'm gonna need you to definitely
- 15:58get in from of that microphone. I didn't know how loud your voice was
- 16:00gonna be. It. You got a soft voice, but go ahead.
- 16:02Good morning. Thank you for having me. I appreciate it. I am
- 16:04a lifelong Republican, sixth generation West Virginian from eastern Kay County. I went
- 16:11to high school at Riverside High School up in Belle. From there, I
- 16:15went to WVU. Sort of Why I was there, I majored in political
- 16:19science, fell in love with politics, worked on dozens of campaigns at really
- 16:23every level. Significantly. Why I was there, I served as then Congressman
- 16:27David McKinley's finance director, and so I got a lot of experience, made
- 16:30a lot of contacts. And after that, you know, I've worked,
- 16:36you know, a year or so in politics after college, and then decided
- 16:37to go back to law school. It was a lifelong dream of mine to
- 16:41become a lawyer. I went to the University of Kentucky College of Law.
- 16:45After that, I was very lucky and fortunate Chief Justice Beth Walker of the
- 16:48Supreme Court asked me to be her very first two year term clerk, And
- 16:53so right out of law school, I jumped right in went to work at
- 16:57the Supreme Court. And that was really a you know, a wonderful opportunity.
- 17:03It's it's kind of the only time in your life you have to really
- 17:04hone those research and writing skills. After that, I went into private practice.
- 17:10I practiced here at a small corporate defense boutique products liability firm called Thomas
- 17:15Colmson Span. While I was there, I worked on significant trial preparation,
- 17:21you know, in the tra state and across the country for that matter.
- 17:23I handled a lot of depositions and and pre trial motions and that sort of
- 17:27thing. Also in private practice, Governor just disappointed me to serve on the
- 17:32Bridge Valley Community and Technical College Board of Governors, and I immediately served as
- 17:37chair right out of the gate, and we did a lot of good during
- 17:41that time. That was, you know, sort of a pivotal moment for
- 17:45me. Education is obviously very important and critical in the state, and I
- 17:48think, you know, while we were there, we made some significant change
- 17:52for the college. Actually currently still I had to when I when I left
- 17:56private practice to go to the court, I had to step down for that
- 18:00board. But I still serve actually recently as an adjunct professor of legal writings
- 18:03there Okay, at Bridge bat So, So that's your bio. What office
- 18:07are you running for? I am running for Kanaw County Circuit Court, Okay,
- 18:11And so I'm excited to be excited to be running for that seat.
- 18:15That's a that's a dream of mine to do this. Why do you want
- 18:18to do it? I mean, you say it's been a dream of yours,
- 18:19But why what is it specifically that that led you to make this decision
- 18:22to run for Kawa County Circuit judge? Well, I believe that. You
- 18:26know, I currently work with the Intermediate Court of Appeals. After leaving private
- 18:32practice, I went there. You know, I understand sort of what it
- 18:36takes to run an efficient docket to you know, what it takes to have
- 18:41a fair shake in a courtroom, that sort of thing. I think those
- 18:42are things that you know, we really need to focus on here in Kanaw
- 18:47County. You know, my top priorities as a circuit judge, you know,
- 18:49would be obviously everyone deserves a fair shake in court. I believe that
- 18:55the judiciary's role is very different from the role of the legislature, and I
- 18:57think that's something that you know, judges to interpret the law as written period.
- 19:03I also, you know, really think that courts could be more efficient.
- 19:07I think that you know, the old saying that the wills of justice
- 19:11turns slowly doesn't have to be the case. Running an efficient docket and timely
- 19:15entering you know, orders with adequate findings. You know, that's that's something
- 19:21that isn't optional and shouldn't be optional at the county level. You know,
- 19:26circuit judges have a very you know, serious docket and they have to work
- 19:30with a lot of tough issues and subject matters. Sort of circles back to
- 19:34efficiency as well. You know, a circuit judge has a very you know,
- 19:38a difficult role with some of these abuse and neglect cases, and even
- 19:41one day of unnecessary delay can be you know, the matter of life and
- 19:45death with a child. And so I think definitely, you know, promoting
- 19:49efficiency in the court system is important. And of course in any court situation
- 19:55that you look at, whether it's from West this part of West Virginia or
- 19:56wherever, primarily what you can to be seen in the courts somehow is related
- 20:02to opioids. I mean one way or the other. It's good if it's
- 20:04theft, if it's whatever, it is somehow good to be related to the
- 20:08drug situation. I know, as a as a member of the of the
- 20:11judiciary, there's not a whole lot that you can do about that. But
- 20:15what kind of preparations will you be going through to realize that, you know,
- 20:18not out of ten cases that it would be in your courtroom or somehow
- 20:21related to drugs. Oh, of course, Well, you know we do.
- 20:23We do have the drug courts, you know here in the state,
- 20:26which is you know, an important initiative, you know, I think get
- 20:30you know, going out in the community, talking with different people, learning
- 20:32as much as I can about you know, the opioid epidemic and trying to
- 20:34be familiar with that. And you know, certainly the toll that it's taken
- 20:37on our citizens, you know, protecting crime victims, making sure that you
- 20:41know they're they're heard and they're protected in the courtroom and through that process obviously
- 20:45is very important. Yeah, I mean, it's it's it's a situation.
- 20:52I mean, it's it's a it's a very very serious situation that we face
- 20:56here because I guess had not out of ten cases somehow anybody will tell you
- 20:59that's there now or whether the law enforcement going to tell you it's somehow it's
- 21:02somehow related to dructs. Something that you said I thought was very interesting and
- 21:06I don't want to put the words in your mouth. Uh actually, but
- 21:08but again, you kind of talked about that you felt that the role of
- 21:11the of a judge was the legislature had their role, which is to make
- 21:17rules, and your your job was to interpret him or to make a decisions
- 21:21based on on that. Do you see that as a problem in the legal
- 21:25system, uh, that that we have judges. No, I'm not just
- 21:29sure to talking about Ka County, but anywhere that kind of get those roles
- 21:32reversed, because I hear that a lot, and I hear that even on
- 21:34the Supreme Court level. I hear that sometimes no matter who's in charge,
- 21:38they say, well, sometimes these these judges get out ahead of their skis
- 21:41here and they don't realize that they're only there to interpret the law. They're
- 21:45not there to make the law. That's a job legislature. Your thoughts on
- 21:48that Oh sure, I think that's definitely. That's certainly not limited to knock
- 21:51on me. That is across the board, And you know, it's it's
- 21:55more than just a partisan you know issue as well. I think it's you
- 21:57know, we have judges here were you know, textualists who want to just
- 22:00look at the law and interpret it as written, and then we have judges
- 22:03who think their role is to sort of expand an opene on what the legislature
- 22:07might have meant, whether the legislature was qualified to make that call, that
- 22:11sort of thing. And yeah, I definitely I think that's across the board
- 22:14in issue. So what's the campaign going to look like? Because you know,
- 22:18the thing about anytime that you're running for a circuit judge, ship,
- 22:22or family cord or whatever the case may be, it's not always a traditional
- 22:26campaign like someone would run for mayor or county commission or whatever. So what's
- 22:30the campaign looking like for you? I think it will very much look like
- 22:33a traditional campaign. I want to I want to lead a you know,
- 22:36but there's things that you can and can't say. That's the thing is that's
- 22:38a judicial candidate. Yeah, yeah, so they Yeah, judicial candidates are
- 22:42obviously subjected to the canons, the judicial canons that the Supreme Court has set
- 22:48forth. And so you know, there are certain things we you know,
- 22:52we don't weigh in on how obviously we would rule in a particular case,
- 22:55or you know, we try not to get too much into the weeds on
- 22:56that sort of thing. But yeah, you know, we'll we're going to
- 23:00be, you know, going out talking to the voters. I hope to
- 23:03lead a pretty significant grassroots effort and try to convey the message that way well.
- 23:07And I think that sometimes when people are out and about it, there's
- 23:11you know, meet to candidates form or you're just speaking to a gathering,
- 23:15some kind of a group or whatever. Although a lot in some cases you're
- 23:19talking about nonpartisan things, in some cases it's not. Once you have a
- 23:23conversation with somebody, it's really not hard to figure out what their what their
- 23:27political ideology is, whether they tell you or not, He'll be able to
- 23:30figure that out, that's definitely. So give me the final thirty seconds here,
- 23:34as I do with every candidate we have. On the final thirty seconds,
- 23:37why should someone vote for Ashley Dean for knaugh Candy's circuit juge When the
- 23:41time comes. Thank you. I truly believe that, you know, my
- 23:44my sort of unique skill set through private practice and my work in the judiciary,
- 23:48it makes me uniquely qualified to take on this role. You know.
- 23:52I believe it's time for a new generation of leaders, a new generation of
- 23:56judges to come in, and I truly believe that Knack County deserves a fresh
- 24:00set of eyes in the courthouse. And I'm very excited and would be honored
- 24:03to have your vote and your support. All right, well, I appreciate
- 24:06you take a time out of your schedule to be here, and I appreciate
- 24:08you using this forum to announce that you're running for office because now it'll go
- 24:12everywhere. Thank you for having it just helps me out, So I appreciate
- 24:17it very much. Thanks a lot. That's actually dam again. She is
- 24:18going to be a candidate for Kanaan County Circuit Judge. Do we have a
- 24:22website or anything yet? Let's turn up you do? I think it actually
- 24:26went live one minute ago, really while we're sitting there. Yes, it's
- 24:30www dot ashleydem dot com. And I also have you know, Facebook and
- 24:33those other forums as well. All right, good, so we wish you
- 24:36the best luck in the campaign will have you and any other candidate on plenty
- 24:38of times between now and then. Thanks a lot, Thank you. It
- 24:41is Ashley Dame again. She is going to be a candidate for a circuit

- 30:14Thank you, Dave. How are you man? Just fine? Thanks for
- 30:15having mountain stage, but not here going to talk mountain stage. I'm gonna
- 30:18talk wrestle. Talk about a different stage. Yes, let's talk about the
- 30:22squared circle. What do we got man? What are you doing? Man?
- 30:26This is the second ever Slam Plaza. And it's at Slack Plaza right
- 30:30there in the center of downtown, right on Brewers Row, across from Summer
- 30:33Street in downtown Charleston. You were there, Dave. We had a successful
- 30:36stern Wheel slam Bread during the Regatta this year, and last September, my
- 30:41friend Mike Young put together the first slam Plaza and so with the excess success
- 30:45of the stern Wille, slamber Reader and the Regatta, we're bringing back slam
- 30:48Plaza to this Friday tonight at six o'clock, right after work. It's gonna
- 30:52be perfect weather, and no matter what you're into, no matter what you
- 30:55expect when you hear professional wrestling, you're going to see something you like and
- 30:57you're gonna be surprised by some thing at slam Plaza this evening. And Adam
- 31:02I was told that if you take the concerts out of the equation from Regatta,
- 31:07that the wrestling show at Slack Plaza was the biggest event at Regatta.
- 31:11Man certainly not music related. I would think, Yeah, I think that's
- 31:14a good estimation. You know, we had I think around fifteen hundred people
- 31:17was the estimate I got that gathered down in Slack Plaza man and it was
- 31:21really invigorating. It went so well. The mayor was a big fan.
- 31:23She even changed her profile picture to her role holding the Regattappro Championship, which
- 31:26I thought was great. She's still the champion or no, she never won
- 31:30the title. She presented it, though she presented it, but she does
- 31:33like to say she does like to say she's the first Regard Approach. Yeah,
- 31:36who is. Well, we crowned a champion in the opening match,
- 31:37which was Troy Parker. But then because of a contract stipulation that none of
- 31:41us knew about, Bishop Baylor ran in the ring and challenged Troy Parker and
- 31:45actually beat him. So he's the second and longest running Regattappro champions. The
- 31:49first guy had it for what like five minutes? Well about for a few
- 31:52matches, you know, a couple of hours maybe, yeah, a couple
- 31:55of hours. And so yeah, Bishop Baylor likes to call himself the longest
- 31:57reigning Regatta champion. And I mean tonight they're closing the chapter on this feud
- 32:02with Troy Parker. These guys have had a chairs match in Kanalla City.
- 32:06They've wrestled over in South Point, Ohio at the Power Slam, Academy and
- 32:09Troy actually holds another belt, the Grand Championship from Power Slam Pro, and
- 32:13he's putting that on the line tonight, looking to finally end the bitter feud
- 32:16with Bishop Baylor in a street fight. A street fight, street fight.
- 32:20So this is like the street fight that I remember watching wrestling growing up.
- 32:22It's pretty much they dress in street clothes, that's right, but anything's legal,
- 32:25that's right. You know. That's like Cactus Jack or Terry funk Man.
- 32:29They're gonna come in Dusty Bunkhouse brawl match exact. I can see Dusty
- 32:36with that boot on his hand, getting ready to knock out the great Terry
- 32:38funk who we just lost souls, right, Adam Charleston has always been a
- 32:44hotbed for professional wrestling. West Virginia in general. But you know you've been
- 32:49around a business for some time thanks to you. Well, I try,
- 32:52I try to pass the torch long. So, I mean, are you
- 32:57even surprised by this? I mean that how big that it is? Right
- 33:00now? Because here's the thing. West Virginia is a relatively small state,
- 33:05but West Virginia is one of the wrestling capitals of the country. I mean,
- 33:08people are people we're talking about. And I know this is not gonna,
- 33:12you know, save us from economic ruin or whatever, but still you've
- 33:14got a lot of eyes on West Virginia are even Are you surprised about that?
- 33:16No? Definitely. Well, I mean, look, it's a great
- 33:19time to be a wrestling fan. It's a great time to be a professional
- 33:21wrestler, for sure. And all these companies are coming together to work together
- 33:24to present Slam Plaza, and that's Appalachian Championship Wrestling, Gary Dameron's All Star
- 33:29Wrestling, the Power Slam Academy, which is now based in South Point,
- 33:31Ohio, and our friends at Pro Wrestling Conquest. So there's four promotions that
- 33:35run in this region throughout the entire year, and our whole goal was just
- 33:37to try to elevate them, get more eyes on that product so that more
- 33:40people will seek out pro wrestling. Whether it's in venues in Kanawa City or
- 33:45in Logan, or in Madison or in Charleston proper, whether it's in the
- 33:50B Dubs parking lot or if it's in the Quantum Sports facility, you know,
- 33:52there's something for professional wrestling fans of all ages and of all styles,
- 33:57you know, and they're each a little different and so depending on what you
- 33:59like. I'm not surprised, Dave, because there's so much great talent out
- 34:01there right now. Cole Carter, who's a Charleston native, is being seen
- 34:06weekly on Ring of Honor television and he's going to be there to defend the
- 34:08Conquest Championship, which he won in a couple of weeks ago. He's going
- 34:12to be at slam Plaza fighting Ajkazana, who's now a member of the renovated
- 34:16NWA, which if you're an old school fan, you remember the National Wrestling
- 34:20Alliance. Well, Billy Corgan actually rid of it. Billy Corgan have the
- 34:22Smashing pump of the Smashing Pumpkins. Yeah, he revived the NBA a couple
- 34:27of years ago. And this guy, Aj Cazana, is a second year
- 34:30as a second generation talent and he's currently seen on the NBA product and man,
- 34:35wait till you get a load of this guy. He's a big old
- 34:37boy and he's coming to take on Cole Carter at slam Plaza this evening.
- 34:39I mean, so who else we got there? So col Carter versus Ajkazana,
- 34:43that's going to be a great match. The Rip City Shooters who are
- 34:45out of Cleveland are coming in to do battle against Hardway Holloway and Marino Tanaglia,
- 34:51those guys representing Appalachian Championship Wrestling. We've got a four way featuring four
- 34:55of the top guys in all of indie wrestling, Shank zac Vance, Desmond,
- 35:00Jason Kincaid and Chance Profits somebody I know you know really well. Four
- 35:05way match. We've got Women's Action. The ASW Tag belts are on the
- 35:07line, and we're actually gonna kick things off with a really fun match.
- 35:10We're gonna showcase some of the up and coming talent from the Power Slam Academy
- 35:15with the k C. King Confetti Cannon Battle Royal, and the winner is
- 35:19going to walk away with the confetti Cannon Trophy after all the men have been
- 35:22thrown over the top rope. It's all this is free. That's the thing
- 35:24about free show. Yeah, that's right. You should stop by Brewers Row,
- 35:28maybe have a beer or a pizza. Check off the new dem two
- 35:30Brothers on Summer Street, get a bite dead and come down to enjoy some
- 35:34wrestling at Slack Plausa. I think we're gonna have a couple food vendors.
- 35:36There's gonna be a coffee shop set up, I believe, and then of
- 35:38course lots of cool eats on Capitol and on Summer Street, and a ton
- 35:43of great sponsors. Shout out to all the sponsors. You can check those
- 35:45out. You can follow slam Plaza on Instagram and then also just look up
- 35:50slam Plaza on Facebook and we have an event page there. The whole card
- 35:52is posted as well, so you can find out more information there and on
- 35:55Instagram. And this was the third, so's it's the third professional wrestling at
- 36:00slack Plaza. Is the second slam Plaza, and then we had the Sternville
- 36:05Slamberry, which was the first ever during regatta. And I think there's a
- 36:07strong chance we're gonna have wrestling as part of next year's regatta. Yeah,
- 36:12and I would think so. And and but what about throughout the year.
- 36:14I mean, it's just doing this. Have some things in the works for
- 36:17sure. You know, we've kind of started this Regatta Pro Wrestling group and
- 36:21we're all working together to trying to have wrestling in non conventional places. You
- 36:24know. The idea is to do this where other people are going to discover
- 36:28it. Maybe non wrestling fans where we're going to expose it to the general
- 36:30public a little bit. And so there's some plans for hopefully something in March
- 36:35that's going to be real exciting and you won't help but be able to help
- 36:38us talk about it when it comes. All right, Well, I'm looking
- 36:40forward to it. And again this area, I mean, it's high school
- 36:45football night, you know that, but not everybody is necessarily into high school
- 36:47sports, and this is kind of like an alternative if you're sure, if
- 36:51you don't want to do the high school if you don't want to go watch
- 36:52a team, you know, lose a game by ninety five points, well
- 36:55that's right. And there's gonna be a lot higher competition in this, Yeah,
- 36:59a lot more evenly matched in pro wrestling for sure. Yeah. Yeah,
- 37:01it's it's what's gonna be a great time. Adaman, one of my
- 37:05favorite people in the world. I do appreciate you stopping by to talk about
- 37:07this, so best of luck with everything. Thank you. It's free entertainment
- 37:14for the family, six o'clock at Slack Plaza this evening, and I don't
- 37:16want to say I'm want to bring out this this family aspect for a moment.
- 37:20Because in the world of wrestling, of which I used to be a
- 37:22pretty big part, as you well know, there are a lot of people
- 37:27that may not want to bring their their kids or whatever out because there are
- 37:30certain groups that do a lot of stupid things that I don't really approve of.
- 37:37When you come to your shows, you're not going to have any kind
- 37:38of problem bringing an eight year old. No. No. As a matter
- 37:42of fact, that was great. That was one of the coolest parts of
- 37:44the stern Will Slambery during REGD is that a lot of people did check it
- 37:46out and even if they didn't know what to expect, uh, they were
- 37:50really surprised and happy to bring their kids. Now that's up to the parents
- 37:52discretion and how do you know, however you feel about it. I'm not
- 37:55going to tell you how to raise your kids. I think this is going
- 37:58to be a very fun and family friendly show. There was one set of
- 38:00parents where the mom and the daughter actually went over to Summer Street to hang
- 38:05out while the dad and the sun stayed and watch wrestling. You know,
- 38:07so you know, chocolate, you know, bring bring the family down.
- 38:10There's plenty to do around town. Even if you're not into watching the pro
- 38:14wrestling. But there was a lot of great family interactions, a lot of
- 38:17kids and anytime. And we've got Nurse Micah on the car tonight, who's
- 38:21a legitimate nurse, who's also one of the toughest professional wrestlers in all of
- 38:24women's wrestling, and it's wonderful to see a line of kids walking up after
- 38:29her shows. You know, after the shows, the kids line up at
- 38:30the Nurse Mica table and it's so inspiring and those little girls are probably going
- 38:35to remember and look up to Nurse Michael for a long long time to come.
- 38:37So I like to think that it's a great a great place to bring
- 38:40some kids and have some family friendly fun and just boo the heels and cheer
- 38:45the faces. Showtime is what's six pm? Time? And now the people
- 38:49did to bring chairs with them? Or do you provide? So we have
- 38:51some chairs. We're gonna bring some chairs. Thanks to the City of Charleston
- 38:54and thanks for all their cooperation. I mean obviously the Mayor's office and the
- 38:58entire team there help make this go down and city services as well. We
- 39:01have some folding chairs. If you want to bring a chair, I think
- 39:04you should. You know, bring your comfy camp chair. You can move
- 39:06around that way, you can get as close to the action as you want,
- 39:08or set out far back and watch from the watch from a distance.
- 39:12Either way, it's good to have wherever you want to say, it's good
- 39:15to have crowd come on out and enjoy it. And and said the weather
- 39:17is going to be pretty nice tonight. A six o'clock is the start time,
- 39:21So so Adam, we'll talk against to best lucky there thing. Thanks
- 39:23like Adam Harris again, it is fourteen minutes away from ten. Not the
- 39:28only big event that's going on. Our good friend Joe Stevens from the city
- 39:31of Nitro joins us right now. Joe, good morning, how are you
- 39:36hey? Dames, good morning to you. And by the way, having
- 39:38Adam in there and talking about wrestling and I know you being the former and
- 39:44you're still a big, big fan, but being the part of it,
- 39:46and when he was talking about the NWA, that kind of brought past memories
- 39:51because one of the earlier groups that became part of the NWA was the mid
- 39:55Alantic Wrestling Association and you're true, in his former life was a ring announcer,
- 40:01the mid Atlantic Guy. So we got you got to hit is a
- 40:07It is a fun, fun time without a doubt and uh and I'm glad
- 40:12that Adam and this group is bringing those guys back into the town and letting
- 40:15people enjoy this type of entertainment thing. What do you guy going on,
- 40:19Joe? Well, starting tomorrow morning, okay, about nine o'clock or so,
- 40:24we were bringing back the Boomtown Day celebration, kind of a homecoming scenario
- 40:30celebration of the City of Nitro. Our last one was in two thousand and
- 40:36nineteen, and we just had a kind of put it on pause because of
- 40:40that little COVID thing, but we were reincarnating it tomorrow. We've got the
- 40:45Nitro Antique Car Club that will have their annual show that two hundred antique cars
- 40:52along Second Avenue. We've got about thirty craft vendors and information vendors that will
- 40:58be located along twenty first Street and also in Living Memorial Park. We've got
- 41:04a parade that will be starting at ten o'clock and traveling down First Avenue from
- 41:09Pickens Road, which is right there at the McDonald's area of Nitro, right
- 41:15there on Route twenty five, and it'll go down to nineteenth Street. So
- 41:20we've got a lot of things happening. What we also have it's plenty of
- 41:22cool music. The Nitro Antique Car Club will be providing some doo wop music
- 41:28throughout the day. But we've got a couple of local bands that will be
- 41:30performing starting at eleven o'clock in fact, day opening act the Barn Hollow Boys,
- 41:37got our members of our public works team here in Nitro and they will
- 41:42be stepping up on the stage. We've had them before and they're a great
- 41:45group. Then, but the headliner will be coming up at four o'clock till
- 41:50about six o'clock in the Living Memorial stage. We've got leg Zz it's a
- 41:53cover band of zz Top and they'll be playing from four to six o'clock.
- 42:00Year in Nitro, just a lot of really neat things happening. All the
- 42:05stores along twenty first Street or having specials and got some creative things. We've
- 42:09got face painting going on. We've got food from Tutors and Genos and dem
- 42:15two brothers. They will be here along with some ice cream and things of
- 42:19that nature. Of course, face painting, and we've got a dunk tank
- 42:22and for some reason it's a fundraising event for the Decca Club at the Nitro
- 42:28High School and for five dollars you'll be able to get three balls and toss
- 42:31to your favorite person or villain. As maybe I wish i'd known some of
- 42:36that. I've had probably had the wrestlers down here, Adam and had them
- 42:40face off and that sort of thing. But Dave, you've been requested to
- 42:44come down, but I just said, I don't think there's the life jacket
- 42:49scenario would work with mister Allen. But the mayor will be in the dunk
- 42:52tank, some teachers will be in the dunk tank, some city council and
- 42:57will be in the dunk tank. So it's a fundraising of and for Decca.
- 43:00The Grand Marshal Parade. The Grand Marshal of the parade is Larry Barnett,
- 43:06and Larry Barnett was an umpire in Major League Baseball for thirty one years
- 43:12and he is a native of Nitro and kind of significance for this week because
- 43:16earlier this week was the anniversary of Cal Ripken Junior breaking Luke Garrick's consecutive game
- 43:22mark of two thousand, one hundred and thirty one. The home plate umpire
- 43:27that night was Larry Barnett. It's the only time that he ever shook the
- 43:32hand of a player on the field. And when Cal came out to understand
- 43:40that he had broken the award and everything and got to twenty minute standing ovation,
- 43:45Larry shook his hand. So he will be our grand Marshall tomorrow.
- 43:47He'll be at the third floor comics after the parade around ten o'clock ten thirty
- 43:52and signing autographs so he can come back and talk some baseball with Larry.
- 43:57Just a fun day to be in Nitro tomorrow day. And where can people
- 44:00learn more about it? They can go to our Facebook page, City of
- 44:05Nitros Facebook page and we've got the lineup of everything going on and one is
- 44:09going on, what's being offered and all the fun to be had. And
- 44:14Adam, have a great night tonight. It's a lot of fun with the
- 44:15wrestling. Also, I know you're gonna have a big weekend to Stephen.
- 44:19Thanks all right, Joe, I appreciate you being here. Stevens, I
- 44:22appreciate you, and good luck with everything. We'll talk again, Sue Buddy.

- 47:15today because he isn't having better to do to get ready for the show tonight.
- 47:19You know this show would not be possible that I've done for the last
- 47:22four years if it wasn't for the person on the other side of the glass.
- 47:24I'm gonna go peel back the curtain for a moment. You know.
- 47:28I've done everything there is to do in radio for thirty five years and done
- 47:31it all from sports to news to top forty country, gospel, classic rock.
- 47:36But this is the first time I've ever actually had a producer, you
- 47:38know, for a show. And and I kind of I kind of like
- 47:42it because all I gotta do is show up and I'll get to a computer
- 47:44and try to be entertaining. I don't know whether I succeed or not,
- 47:46probably not, But from Caitlin Murphy, my original producer, to the A
- 47:51Train, Anthony Harman, to Ryan Nicholson to the Bossdale Cooper from time to
- 47:53time, you know, they make it possible. And Hollywood, Jeff Petty
- 47:58is my producer today and he's gonna hang out with you for the next five
- 48:01minutes or so. Welcome to the show that you produced, Jeffrey. I
- 48:06love it that you're calling me Jeffrey. I've got because yeah, I'm not
- 48:08a big fan of that. Well, and thanks for telling me that because
- 48:12guess what you're gonna be calling from now on. I mean, you've already
- 48:15effectively changed my radio name with Hollywood I did. I'm the one. I'll
- 48:19take credit for it because Jeff, like Adam and I a huge pro wrestling
- 48:22fan, and I will take credit for the fact that I have turned Jeff
- 48:27on. He's a relatively he howld are you, Jeff? You know,
- 48:29twenty eight years old. I've turned Jeff onto some old school wrestling stuff.
- 48:32I've got him. I've got him watching matches with Harley Race, and I've
- 48:36got him watching Dick Murdock and Dick the Bruiser and all those people. So
- 48:39so so, so there you go. So, but you're also on other
