- 0:07Speaker 1: Is back for a lot of Fargo students.
- 0:09Speaker 2: I know, morehead kids or more head schools start I
- 0:12Speaker 2: think September second, oh, next week, yeah, but right around
- 0:16Speaker 2: the corner. And when we were in high school. I
- 0:19Speaker 2: want to know what was your mascot? I'm trying to
- 0:22Speaker 2: track down the goofiest, funniest mascot I can, uh, just
- 0:27Speaker 2: from whoever's hanging out with us here, because mine was
- 0:30Speaker 2: pretty boring?
- 0:30Speaker 3: What was yours?
- 0:31Speaker 2: We were the Hawks? Oh, yeah, which is cool? You
- 0:34Speaker 2: know great bird? Yeah great?
- 0:36Speaker 3: Yeah, for sure. Mine wasn't much better. I was a charger,
- 0:40Speaker 3: which is just a horse.
- 0:41Speaker 1: Were a horse? Yeah? Well I did a little bit
- 0:43Speaker 1: of research here.
- 0:44Speaker 2: And four schools in the FM area right so like
- 0:47Speaker 2: Fargo North High School.
- 0:50Speaker 1: They are the Spartans tough.
- 0:53Speaker 2: Yeah, warrior, the Davies Eagles, yeah I like it over
- 0:58Speaker 2: by where we live, Angie, and then the man Scott
- 1:00Speaker 2: for Fargo South High School the Bruins.
- 1:02Speaker 3: What are Bruins?
- 1:04Speaker 1: The bear Oh.
- 1:06Speaker 3: I never knew that until right now? Wow?
- 1:10Speaker 2: All right, West Fargo High School they have the Packers,
- 1:13Speaker 2: and then West Fargo Cheyenne High School they have the Mustang.
- 1:17Speaker 1: So another horse pretty popular.
- 1:19Speaker 4: I wish it were cars, got that turbo?
- 1:24Speaker 2: All right, Angie, what we posted this on Facebook? What
- 1:27Speaker 2: are some of your favorite mascots that you saw And
- 1:29Speaker 2: you don't have to say anyone's last name, but their
- 1:31Speaker 2: first name will be fine.
- 1:32Speaker 4: Ashley hit us with a Lumberjacks, your high school mascot,
- 1:37Speaker 4: the Lumberjacks.
- 1:39Speaker 3: That's dope.
- 1:39Speaker 4: And I feel like you should have gone to whatever
- 1:41Speaker 4: school that is.
- 1:42Speaker 2: Ashley's high school mascot was me from October to March.
- 1:46Speaker 3: Yes, I love that.
- 1:47Speaker 4: Also this one, Scott said a tom Turkey, so they
- 1:51Speaker 4: were the gobblers.
- 1:54Speaker 2: The Goblins. That that is a trade mascot. All right,
- 2:00Speaker 2: well this one was my favorite one. Okay, all right,
- 2:03Speaker 2: And by the way, if you want to share your
- 2:05Speaker 2: mascot with us, you can seven oh one two eight
- 2:07Speaker 2: zero one nine eight seven. But Sandra Hers was a
- 2:11Speaker 2: Canadian goose aka the Honkers, which is great.
- 2:15Speaker 1: The Honkers, that's great.
- 2:17Speaker 3: That was my nickname in high school. I don't have one, No,
- 2:26Speaker 3: I'm kidding. My little victory.
- 2:29Speaker 4: By the way, if you have a little victory you
- 2:30Speaker 4: want to share with us seven oh one two eight
- 2:33Speaker 4: oh one nine eight seven. We love to hear from you.
- 2:35Speaker 4: Just anything that like, really made your day. It doesn't
- 2:38Speaker 4: have to be huge, but it can be huge. We
- 2:40Speaker 4: just want to celebrate our wins. So, Gabe, my little
- 2:44Speaker 4: victory is that I found a Marvel movie that I'm
- 2:48Speaker 4: really into. So my kids are Marvel Cinematic Universe fanatics,
- 2:53Speaker 4: and we've watched all of the movies a lot of times.
- 2:57Speaker 2: Who's the Marvel Ones Avengers? Oh right, yeah, well I know,
- 3:02Speaker 2: but someone hanging out my not.
- 3:04Speaker 3: Oh that's true. You're right, yes, the Avengers.
- 3:06Speaker 4: So not DC comics, Marvel comics, and we've been struggling
- 3:11Speaker 4: to find a movie.
- 3:11Speaker 3: The kids will be like, let's watch a Marvel movie,
- 3:14Speaker 3: and I'm like, oh, brother for this day.
- 3:17Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:18Speaker 4: So yesterday, uh, it started on streaming on Disney Plus.
- 3:23Speaker 4: They added Thunderbolts, which stars your girl, Florence Pugh. I
- 3:28Speaker 4: know you're a fan of Florence Pew. So I was
- 3:31Speaker 4: watching it and who's I forget his name, David Harbert,
- 3:34Speaker 4: the guy who plays Hopper and Stranger Things. He's in
- 3:37Speaker 4: it too.
- 3:38Speaker 3: Oh you don't watch Stranger Oh my gosh.
- 3:41Speaker 4: Well he used to be married to Lily Allen and
- 3:43Speaker 4: they had a messy divorce. Anyway, he's in it, and
- 3:46Speaker 4: it's just a really great cast. And I started watching
- 3:49Speaker 4: it with the kids yesterday and I was hooked, probably
- 3:53Speaker 4: more hooked than the kids were. But we got about
- 3:55Speaker 4: an hour through it. There's like an hour left, and
- 3:58Speaker 4: I was like, no, no, no, I have to go
- 3:59Speaker 4: to bed because you know, I have to get up
- 4:01Speaker 4: early for the show. And so they're like, well, we
- 4:04Speaker 4: want to finish it, and I'm like, no, we finally
- 4:06Speaker 4: found a movie that we can watch together, so we're
- 4:09Speaker 4: gonna finish it tonight, and I'm very excited. Thunderbolt's now
- 4:12Speaker 4: streaming on Disney Plus Plus.
- 4:14Speaker 2: Can't you always uh now that now that it's Thursday,
- 4:18Speaker 2: it'd be day two of school?
- 4:19Speaker 1: Don't you always have that you have school in the morning,
- 4:21Speaker 1: like go to bed?
- 4:22Speaker 4: Yeah, but I go to bed at like I start
- 4:24Speaker 4: my bedtime routine at like seven pm.
- 4:27Speaker 1: When are you actually laying down though seven thirty? It's
- 4:30Speaker 1: not bad.
- 4:31Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, I mean I probably supposed to go till
- 4:34Speaker 4: eight maybe.
- 4:35Speaker 2: Yeah, I suppose you don't expect your fourteen year old
- 4:37Speaker 2: to go to bed at seventeen.
- 4:38Speaker 3: No, my kid's bedtime is like nine thirty.
- 4:41Speaker 1: Okay. Yeah, I was gonna if I had that time.
- 4:44Speaker 2: If my mom was going to bed at seven thirty
- 4:46Speaker 2: when I was fourteen, I'd have been up till midnight.
- 4:48Speaker 1: No easy.
- 4:49Speaker 4: Well, I have a good kid who's honest and goes
- 4:52Speaker 4: to bed on time.
- 4:54Speaker 3: I think that's right. I think I have no way
- 4:56Speaker 3: to know.
- 4:57Speaker 4: Do you know?
- 4:57Speaker 2: My little victory is I have been waiting I mean months,
- 5:01Speaker 2: maybe even half a year, maybe even longer than that.
- 5:04Speaker 2: On the way home today, I will be stopping at
- 5:07Speaker 2: the brand new gas station in South Fargo.
- 5:09Speaker 1: And I don't I don't want to give them too
- 5:11Speaker 1: much of like a free ad or whatever.
- 5:13Speaker 2: But I have been watching this thing be built at
- 5:16Speaker 2: the pace of smell for months and months and months,
- 5:20Speaker 2: and I'm so excited because now it will be the
- 5:22Speaker 2: closest one to my house. I can just run, you know,
- 5:26Speaker 2: a couple blocks to get gas and a candy bar.
- 5:28Speaker 1: What as opposed.
- 5:30Speaker 2: To having to drive all the way to fifty second
- 5:32Speaker 2: to use one of the gas stations on that street.
- 5:34Speaker 2: So I will be stopping there on the way home,
- 5:38Speaker 2: and if it's not open, I'm still gonna stop and
- 5:40Speaker 2: park in the parking lot just so I can say I've.
- 5:43Speaker 3: Been there, just so you can feel alive, Angie.
- 5:50Speaker 2: A lot of kids went back to school yesterday, which
- 5:53Speaker 2: is something I do not envy because I was not
- 5:55Speaker 2: the greatest of students.
- 5:56Speaker 1: I wasn't a horrid student, but I was not the greatest.
- 6:00Speaker 4: Started yesterday and they indulged me and took their little
- 6:03Speaker 4: first day of high school first day of third grade
- 6:06Speaker 4: pictures with the signs that I drew them. I also
- 6:10Speaker 4: took a picture with my first day.
- 6:12Speaker 3: Of me time sign.
- 6:15Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:16Speaker 4: I posted that on the big ninety eight points I'm
- 6:18Speaker 4: on Facebook page.
- 6:19Speaker 3: Yeah. They both had a great day.
- 6:22Speaker 4: I was a little concerned about Liam, the little one,
- 6:25Speaker 4: because he did not love his teacher last year. They
- 6:31Speaker 4: just didn't work well together, Like he needs someone who
- 6:35Speaker 4: can meet him where he's at, and it was rough.
- 6:39Speaker 4: It was a struggle. It was a transition last school year.
- 6:42Speaker 4: He came in, you know, right after spring break, and
- 6:44Speaker 4: he was very new. But he did come home and
- 6:47Speaker 4: say that he absolutely loves his teacher that he has
- 6:50Speaker 4: now already, so that's a sign of good things to come.
- 6:54Speaker 4: Aiden was very excited that there's some off campus time
- 6:57Speaker 4: that he has so he got to come home in
- 6:59Speaker 4: the day, oh sure, and then have a snack and then.
- 7:02Speaker 3: Go back to school. So so far, so good. But
- 7:05Speaker 3: it's only been one day, so we'll see them.
- 7:06Speaker 2: And it has only been one day. Have any of
- 7:09Speaker 2: them mentioned maybe their first test?
- 7:11Speaker 4: No, for now, there's been no like homework or anything.
- 7:17Speaker 1: No homework yet.
- 7:17Speaker 3: Huh No, it's only the first day.
- 7:19Speaker 1: Yeah, but did you have to sign any syllabuses?
- 7:22Speaker 3: Oh my gosh, if I had to, they didn't tell me.
- 7:26Speaker 1: All right, well, Angie, right around the corner. For kids,
- 7:30Speaker 1: part of being in school is you get homework. You
- 7:32Speaker 1: gotta take tests.
- 7:33Speaker 2: You know, you got to study, prove you're kind of
- 7:35Speaker 2: learning something as you go. And so I was wondering
- 7:38Speaker 2: if you would just take a tiny little quiz for
- 7:40Speaker 2: me this morning, and I will let you know that
- 7:42Speaker 2: I probably would have got like two out of three
- 7:46Speaker 2: of these. It's only three questions, okay, And you have
- 7:49Speaker 2: a third grader and a high schooler. So I met
- 7:51Speaker 2: you in the middle. I gave you kind of like
- 7:53Speaker 2: a fifth grade test.
- 7:55Speaker 4: Okay, Okay, all right, Angie.
- 8:00Speaker 2: If a school bus can carry forty eight students, yeah,
- 8:06Speaker 2: if five school buses are completely full, how many students
- 8:10Speaker 2: are there in total?
- 8:12Speaker 3: A math question? Want me to do math.
- 8:14Speaker 1: Okay, you started it with math.
- 8:17Speaker 4: Up, I kept stand you forty eight times five, So
- 8:19Speaker 4: eight times five is forty so zero carry the four
- 8:22Speaker 4: five times four is twenty plus the four two hundred
- 8:24Speaker 4: and forty.
- 8:25Speaker 2: That is correct and funny. That's exactly how I would
- 8:29Speaker 2: have done it. Or I would have been like, okay,
- 8:31Speaker 2: fifty times four is two fifty minus the.
- 8:34Speaker 3: Oh no, don't put subtraction in there.
- 8:36Speaker 2: So funny how people go about doing math in their head.
- 8:39Speaker 2: I was curious about that.
- 8:40Speaker 3: Oh, I got it right.
- 8:41Speaker 2: What process do plants use to make their own uh,
- 8:46Speaker 2: to make their own food using sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide?
- 8:51Speaker 4: That is a photosynthesis, baby, that is correct.
- 8:55Speaker 2: And then finally, what is the capital city of North Dakota?
- 9:01Speaker 4: Oh my gosh, no, stop ah bismark. Okay, I was
- 9:10Speaker 4: going through the little song in my head.
- 9:12Speaker 1: Andy just all of a sudden has armpit sweats. Here
- 9:23Speaker 1: the problem.
- 9:24Speaker 4: It's time for am I the problem where you send
- 9:26Speaker 4: us your side of the story and we help you
- 9:28Speaker 4: figure out if you're in the right or if maybe,
- 9:32Speaker 4: just maybe you're the problem. Our email that we got
- 9:35Speaker 4: is from Madison. Here it goes, Hey, Gabe and Angie,
- 9:40Speaker 4: you guys make my morning so much better and I
- 9:42Speaker 4: appreciate the laughs and entertainment every day.
- 9:45Speaker 1: Well, thank you, Madison.
- 9:46Speaker 3: That is very nice.
- 9:47Speaker 4: By the way, if you're submitting an am I the Problem,
- 9:50Speaker 4: which you can do at Big nine eight seven dot com,
- 9:53Speaker 4: just click on the on air tabinets right there. You
- 9:55Speaker 4: don't have to say nice things about us.
- 9:58Speaker 1: First, I changed time, but yeah, you do. I like it. It
- 10:01Speaker 1: puts me in a bad no, I do like it.
- 10:03Speaker 4: I do like it, but I just don't want anyone
- 10:06Speaker 4: to feel obligated. But yes, we appreciate that, all right.
- 10:09Speaker 4: I want to know, am I the problem? I'm engaged
- 10:11Speaker 4: and my fiance has been a huge father figure to
- 10:14Speaker 4: my eleven year old son for almost five years. My
- 10:17Speaker 4: son's biological dad only sees him a couple times a year,
- 10:20Speaker 4: so my fiance really has stepped up. But we don't
- 10:23Speaker 4: agree on parenting styles. He's a lot stricter than I am.
- 10:28Speaker 3: Here's my issue.
- 10:29Speaker 4: My son has been feeling small and weak because of
- 10:32Speaker 4: comments from other kids his age, so he asked if
- 10:35Speaker 4: he could use our little two pound dumbbells to start
- 10:39Speaker 4: building strength. I told him yes, it's such a small
- 10:42Speaker 4: amount of weight. And I thought it would boost his confidence,
- 10:45Speaker 4: but my fiance immediately told him no, saying an eleven
- 10:49Speaker 4: year old has no reason to be lifting weights. It
- 10:52Speaker 4: made my son upset, and honestly, it made me feel
- 10:55Speaker 4: like my fiance undermined me since I had already said yes.
- 10:59Speaker 4: He says he has legitimate reasons for not wanting it,
- 11:02Speaker 4: But I feel like I'm just trying to support my
- 11:04Speaker 4: son's self esteem. Am I being unreasonable here? Or should
- 11:08Speaker 4: I back my fiance's call? Please help me see this clearly?
- 11:12Speaker 4: Oh man, Yeah, that's tough there, bre this is a
- 11:15Speaker 4: tough one. I am the fiance. Yeah, I'm the fiance
- 11:20Speaker 4: in this scenario. Like I've always been the more strict one,
- 11:24Speaker 4: and so like, I see the fiance's point, and I
- 11:27Speaker 4: think I literally at some point told my kid aiden
- 11:30Speaker 4: when he was younger he wanted to lift weights, and
- 11:32Speaker 4: I was like, no, no, no, you can't lift weights yet,
- 11:35Speaker 4: You're too young for that. So I see exactly where
- 11:38Speaker 4: the fiance is coming from. However, he's not the mom
- 11:43Speaker 4: and the biological mom, like he just came into the life.
- 11:46Speaker 4: He's been there for five years. Effectively, he is a stepdad.
- 11:50Speaker 4: But oh my gosh what, Oh, I don't know, this
- 11:55Speaker 4: one is tough. Okay seven oh one two, eight oh
- 11:58Speaker 4: one to nine eight seven? What do you think we
- 12:00Speaker 4: also put this on the big ninety eight points. I've
- 12:01Speaker 4: on Facebook page for Okay, I'm gonna go with I
- 12:06Speaker 4: understand how she could feel undermined. So he should have
- 12:10Speaker 4: waited and talked to her separately, and then they could
- 12:14Speaker 4: have come to a solution together and then told the kid.
- 12:17Speaker 2: Yeah, those two should have chit chatted before either one
- 12:20Speaker 2: of them probably made a decision on the But I
- 12:23Speaker 2: am not a step dad. I'm not a dad of anything.
- 12:26Speaker 2: But if I was a step parent, I think if
- 12:30Speaker 2: there was ever a situation like this, I would probably
- 12:34Speaker 2: always resort to, well, what your mom say, yeah, defer
- 12:37Speaker 2: to the Yeah, I would probably do that.
- 12:39Speaker 1: Now.
- 12:40Speaker 2: It's easy to sit here and say that when I'm
- 12:41Speaker 2: not in these shoes at all. It does turn out
- 12:44Speaker 2: though stepdad technically is right. It is recommended you're not
- 12:49Speaker 2: supposed to start lifting weights until you're fourteen to sixteen ish,
- 12:53Speaker 2: depending on how just kind of advanced you are in puberty. Yeah,
- 12:57Speaker 2: and so an eleven year old it's more And I mean,
- 13:00Speaker 2: but that's the thing. It's like two pounds, right, So
- 13:03Speaker 2: maybe he could do like push ups and sit ups
- 13:05Speaker 2: or something to just build some of that confidence.
- 13:07Speaker 1: And there's like a middle ground there.
- 13:09Speaker 4: Yeah, because I do feel bad that the kid feels,
- 13:11Speaker 4: you know, like he's getting picked on, which is a bummer.
- 13:15Speaker 4: And then yeah, you want to raise the kid's self esteem,
- 13:18Speaker 4: but lifting weights is probably not the way to go.
- 13:21Speaker 4: But if they are just two pound weights, Oh man,
- 13:24Speaker 4: all right, we need your help, text us call us
- 13:26Speaker 4: comment on the big ninety eight points I'm on facebook page.
- 13:30Speaker 4: Is Madison being unreasonable by thinking her kids should just
- 13:35Speaker 4: lift two pound weights to feel better about himself, right?
- 13:39Speaker 4: Or should she just go with what her fiance who
- 13:42Speaker 4: is stepdad says and like no.
- 13:44Speaker 1: And I want to give Madison some credit.
- 13:46Speaker 2: I feel like this is the first am I the
- 13:47Speaker 2: problem we've had in a long time where at the
- 13:49Speaker 2: end of the day, this is it doesn't have to
- 13:52Speaker 2: be some big, giant, huge thing. We see a lot
- 13:54Speaker 2: of crazy the problems. It's nice to know like, oh, okay, hey,
- 13:58Speaker 2: this is just something my my son's stepdad and I
- 14:01Speaker 2: are dealing with here today.
- 14:03Speaker 1: Which route would you go?
- 14:04Speaker 2: So kudos to Madison for a nice, light hearted the
- 14:07Speaker 2: problem On this Thursday.
- 14:14Speaker 3: Madison asked for some help.
- 14:16Speaker 4: So she and her fiance have been together for five
- 14:20Speaker 4: years and in that time he's become a father figure
- 14:23Speaker 4: to her eleven year old son, but he is a
- 14:26Speaker 4: more strict parent than she is. So her eleven year
- 14:29Speaker 4: old asked if he could start lifting weights to kind
- 14:34Speaker 4: of gain some muscle because he's been given a hard
- 14:36Speaker 4: time by his friends for being like a smaller.
- 14:40Speaker 2: You know what Madison's kid's name is to say that, no,
- 14:43Speaker 2: she did not, Well, Madison's kid, just I know how
- 14:46Speaker 2: you feel.
- 14:46Speaker 1: Brother.
- 14:47Speaker 3: Oh were you you were the small kid?
- 14:49Speaker 1: Oh my god? At eleven? What grade are you in?
- 14:51Speaker 1: An eleven?
- 14:52Speaker 3: Six?
- 14:52Speaker 2: I think I'm dead serious. I might have weighed fifty
- 14:55Speaker 2: five pounds and six. Oh wow, I was tiny.
- 14:59Speaker 4: Well, she told him to raise his self esteem and
- 15:02Speaker 4: make him feel good. She said, you can lift these
- 15:05Speaker 4: two pound dumbbells and maybe you'll get gain a little
- 15:07Speaker 4: bit of muscle. Her fiance said, no, absolutely not. At
- 15:12Speaker 4: eleven years old, you shouldn't be lifting weights of any kind.
- 15:15Speaker 4: So she feels like he undermined her and she's not
- 15:18Speaker 4: happy about it, but she wants to know is she
- 15:20Speaker 4: the problem or should she just back her fiance's advice.
- 15:25Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't think she's the problem.
- 15:27Speaker 2: Two pound dumbbells aren't gonna hurt an eleven year old
- 15:29Speaker 2: by any stretch, and it sucks, but that's sadly, I
- 15:34Speaker 2: think I don't know anything about parenting, so any parenting
- 15:36Speaker 2: topics we have on here is pretty tough for me.
- 15:38Speaker 2: But when you are a step figure, yeah, I kind
- 15:43Speaker 2: of I feel like you sort of always result back
- 15:46Speaker 2: to mom or dad, whichever side of yeah, the coin
- 15:49Speaker 2: you're on there, and that doesn't always have to be
- 15:51Speaker 2: the case, but something like this.
- 15:54Speaker 1: Yeah, I need to go mom.
- 15:55Speaker 3: That's how I feel.
- 15:56Speaker 4: I feel like defer to the the parent who is
- 15:59Speaker 4: the you know, the parent, if you're the step However,
- 16:03Speaker 4: I do agree with the fiance about the dumbbells, and
- 16:08Speaker 4: I know it's only two pounds, but then what if
- 16:10Speaker 4: he's like, Okay, well this is too easy, I want
- 16:13Speaker 4: to move on to five pounds or ten pounds that
- 16:15Speaker 4: you know what I mean, and he is only eleven,
- 16:18Speaker 4: and that's like not very healthy. And even the fiance
- 16:21Speaker 4: said that he has legitimate reasons for not wanting that.
- 16:23Speaker 4: So my thing is Yeah, he did undermine her, but
- 16:28Speaker 4: he is also right.
- 16:31Speaker 1: Kim.
- 16:31Speaker 2: She chimed him. She said, your fiance needs to chill.
- 16:35Speaker 2: That's not his kid, he's yours. And if you said yes,
- 16:37Speaker 2: then that's the call. There's also nothing wrong with eleven
- 16:40Speaker 2: year olds lifting weights. My twelve year old took a
- 16:42Speaker 2: weight class. I'll weightlifting class all summer long. Either the
- 16:45Speaker 2: fiance needs to take a step back or he needs
- 16:47Speaker 2: to defer to you for those kinds of things. Katie said,
- 16:52Speaker 2: you are definitely not being unreasonable. My ten year old
- 16:54Speaker 2: son left weights with his dad all the time. It
- 16:56Speaker 2: has built his self esteem up so much and he
- 16:59Speaker 2: really enjoys the box unending time with his dad.
- 17:01Speaker 1: Maybe that's an alternative.
- 17:02Speaker 2: Maybe it's something they could do together, and then stepdad
- 17:05Speaker 2: at least knows the kids using all the correct techniques
- 17:08Speaker 2: and not gonna hurt himself or whatever, turn it into
- 17:11Speaker 2: a bonding thing.
- 17:12Speaker 4: Okay, I like that's really good advice. Yeah, because if
- 17:15Speaker 4: he's concerned, then he should do it with him, and
- 17:17Speaker 4: then he can regulate that and then that solves all
- 17:19Speaker 4: the problems.
- 17:19Speaker 3: Who said that again?
- 17:20Speaker 1: That was Katie.
- 17:21Speaker 3: Katie, You're a bouse and I love that.
- 17:24Speaker 2: And then Nikki, she added in, and this is our
- 17:26Speaker 2: last one here. Always have your child's back. Kids are forever.
- 17:29Speaker 2: Significant others come and go, because the kind of a
- 17:35Speaker 2: sad way to go through life. I think with the
- 17:44Speaker 2: massive news of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelsey getting engaged,
- 17:48Speaker 2: I wanted to take a little time warp down their relationship.
- 17:53Speaker 1: Do you remember these things? These?
- 17:56Speaker 2: No, I don't want to say monumental moments, but kind
- 17:58Speaker 2: of newsworthy moments in relationship, because when I was going
- 18:01Speaker 2: through these, I'm sitting here going, you know, as someone
- 18:03Speaker 2: who's not a swiftye yeah, I like football and watch football,
- 18:07Speaker 2: It's like, wow, I remember all of these. I can't remember.
- 18:10Speaker 2: I can't imagine someone who's a big Taylor Swift fan.
- 18:12Speaker 2: They're gonna be like, Gabe, you miss this, this, this, this.
- 18:15Speaker 4: Oh well, if Gabe misses anything, you let us know.
- 18:17Speaker 4: Seven on one to two, eight on one, nine eighty seven.
- 18:19Speaker 4: But I'm interested in this timeline because I'm not a
- 18:21Speaker 4: fully dedicated Swifty but I am nosy, so let me know.
- 18:26Speaker 2: July eighth, twenty twenty three, Travis attended one of Taylor
- 18:30Speaker 2: Swift's shows at Arrowhead stadium. He was spotted in a
- 18:33Speaker 2: private box and even exchanged friendship bracelets with fans around him.
- 18:38Speaker 2: This was the first initial public presence at one of
- 18:42Speaker 2: her concerts.
- 18:43Speaker 4: Okay, is this the one where he wanted to give
- 18:46Speaker 4: her friendship bracelet because he thought he could just talk
- 18:48Speaker 4: the elevator lady into letting him go see Daylor.
- 18:51Speaker 2: Exactly right, Yes, on July twenty sixth. All right, so
- 18:55Speaker 2: just a handful of weeks later, that's when he talks
- 18:58Speaker 2: about trying to give Taylor Swift the friendship bracelet. Bracelet
- 19:02Speaker 2: asks her on the podcast, you know, hey, I want
- 19:05Speaker 2: your number?
- 19:05Speaker 1: Can we connect?
- 19:06Speaker 2: Blah blah blah. It kind of shoots a shot on
- 19:08Speaker 2: the podcast. I like this, bold move.
- 19:10Speaker 1: All right?
- 19:10Speaker 2: Fast forward? This is where things and fans go nuts.
- 19:14Speaker 2: This was all in July of twenty twenty three. Fast
- 19:16Speaker 2: forward twenty twenty three. Yep, oh wow, Okay, fast forward
- 19:20Speaker 2: to September. Taylor attends their first Kansas City Chief football
- 19:25Speaker 2: game and it kind of makes their romance Instagram official.
- 19:29Speaker 3: Oh my gosh, I do remember.
- 19:31Speaker 1: That, and they leave together? What I mean?
- 19:33Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 19:34Speaker 1: All right?
- 19:35Speaker 2: The Super Bowl Taylor and Travis in twenty twenty four,
- 19:38Speaker 2: Taylor and Travis share a new iconic embrace. Travis says,
- 19:42Speaker 2: You're the best baby, a moment that obviously went viral.
- 19:46Speaker 4: Yes, I remember that too, and I remember also hating
- 19:50Speaker 4: it because I think they defeated my team, the Eagles.
- 19:53Speaker 3: I was mad, all right.
- 19:55Speaker 2: Later that year, in June, Travis makes a surprise appearance
- 19:59Speaker 2: during Taylor one of Taylor's shows on the Eras Tour.
- 20:03Speaker 3: Oh yes, yes, I remember this.
- 20:05Speaker 4: This broke social media, like everyone was super fanatic about it.
- 20:10Speaker 4: Am I actually a swiftye? I'm like, why am I
- 20:13Speaker 4: so worked up?
- 20:13Speaker 1: Right? Now? All right?
- 20:14Speaker 2: We fast forward to twenty twenty five. In August, Taylor
- 20:18Speaker 2: appears on the New Heights podcast obviously like the most
- 20:22Speaker 2: listened to podcast of the year. Yeah, and then fast
- 20:26Speaker 2: forward not a couple days later or two weeks or whatever.
- 20:30Speaker 2: Travis's father, Ed Kelsey says, the proposal happened two weeks ago.
- 20:34Speaker 2: So it happened right around that podcast, you know what,
- 20:37Speaker 2: right around it.
- 20:38Speaker 4: I don't. This isn't a hot take, but it is
- 20:40Speaker 4: something I want to say that when I don't want
- 20:44Speaker 4: to be one of those people that was like I
- 20:46Speaker 4: knew it.
- 20:46Speaker 3: I knew Laylor engaged.
- 20:48Speaker 4: But I did think it was interesting for her to
- 20:52Speaker 4: announce on his podcast about her album because she's so
- 20:57Speaker 4: like protective of her work, right, it's it means a
- 21:00Speaker 4: lot to her, The fans mean a lot to her
- 21:03Speaker 4: and to me in my head, I was like, I
- 21:05Speaker 4: feel like they have to be like something really super
- 21:09Speaker 4: serious for her to tie this album with a boyfriend.
- 21:14Speaker 4: She never did that before with any other guy that
- 21:16Speaker 4: she was with, because imagine it doesn't work out, right,
- 21:19Speaker 4: then forever there's this piece of work of hers that's
- 21:23Speaker 4: tied to this man. And so the fact that she
- 21:26Speaker 4: went up, that's when I thought. I didn't think they
- 21:28Speaker 4: were engaged. Didn't know, but I did think, like, oh,
- 21:31Speaker 4: she thinks he's the one, Like if they're not engaged,
- 21:34Speaker 4: she in her head is like, well, he's the one,
- 21:36Speaker 4: because she wouldn't tie her work with him if he weren't.
- 21:40Speaker 4: So I think definitely they were engaged by then. Also,
- 21:44Speaker 4: if you look at her nails, it's the exact same manicure,
- 21:47Speaker 4: and I mean, two weeks go by, the manicure is
- 21:52Speaker 4: not going to look the same, right, am I SWIFTYE?
- 21:55Speaker 3: Is that what I just realized?
- 21:56Speaker 2: Tell you know what I'm thinking Taylor is a genius.
- 22:01Speaker 2: She knew she was engaged or about to be engaged
- 22:03Speaker 2: to this man. She got her future hubby a bunch
- 22:06Speaker 2: of extra bonus dollars on this podcast. Now that Taylor
- 22:10Speaker 2: needs the money, but she's just helping out the love
- 22:12Speaker 2: of her life with a bunch more money.
- 22:14Speaker 3: She's a good woman, just a g.
- 22:19Speaker 2: We were talking proposals a lot, just with Taylor Swift
- 22:22Speaker 2: of course, and Alexa let us know about her proposal
- 22:26Speaker 2: and it was great, but there was one thing she
- 22:28Speaker 2: was not a big fan of during it and here
- 22:31Speaker 2: it is.
- 22:32Speaker 5: Honestly, it was sweet and thoughtful, but it's just a
- 22:35Speaker 5: little too planned, like he was following a script. I
- 22:38Speaker 5: would have loved something more spontaneous or personal, you know,
- 22:42Speaker 5: something that felt more like us in the moment.
- 22:45Speaker 1: So what do you think about that, Angie, You've been
- 22:47Speaker 1: proposed to, haven't you? Yes?
- 22:48Speaker 4: And it was spontaneous and in the moment. It was
- 22:51Speaker 4: at karaoke night and my then boyfriend was hammered and
- 22:58Speaker 4: I was I was on stage. I was on stage
- 23:05Speaker 4: singing Spice Girls with my best friend and after we
- 23:09Speaker 4: finished the song, he came up on stage. Now, this
- 23:12Speaker 4: man is we're very opposite. Whereas I'm the waah loud one.
- 23:16Speaker 4: He was always very quiet, so for him to come
- 23:18Speaker 4: up to the stage was like weird. He grabs the
- 23:21Speaker 4: microphone from my friend and he gets down on one
- 23:24Speaker 4: knee and he's start something no, no, while I was
- 23:29Speaker 4: going what are you doing? What are you doing? And
- 23:31Speaker 4: I just said what are you doing? A thousand times
- 23:33Speaker 4: while he's trying to say like a nice thing. And
- 23:35Speaker 4: then he asked me to be his wife, and I
- 23:38Speaker 4: said yes. I was also a little hammered, but he
- 23:41Speaker 4: didn't have a ring because it was so spontaneous, right,
- 23:45Speaker 4: and I thought.
- 23:46Speaker 3: In the moment it was sweet.
- 23:48Speaker 4: But the next day I had to make sure he
- 23:50Speaker 4: remembered that he proposed a.
- 23:52Speaker 1: Double check, yes, do you remember what happened yesterday?
- 23:55Speaker 4: Yeah, And then he had to, you know, go get
- 23:57Speaker 4: me a ring and whatever. And so I appreciated that
- 24:00Speaker 4: he felt so inspired in the moment to do it,
- 24:03Speaker 4: like I just really, the alcohol is flowing and I'm
- 24:06Speaker 4: really into this woman right now, so I have to propose.
- 24:09Speaker 3: But so I feel like brave.
- 24:11Speaker 4: So I feel like how what Alexa was her name? Yep,
- 24:16Speaker 4: I feel like I would have wanted a balance in between, right,
- 24:20Speaker 4: Like his was too spontaneous, didn't have a ring.
- 24:23Speaker 3: Her guy, it was.
- 24:24Speaker 4: Too scripted, somewhere in between where you have a plan
- 24:28Speaker 4: but then maybe just kind of go with the flow.
- 24:30Speaker 3: What about you.
- 24:31Speaker 4: You obviously proposed to your wife, she married you.
- 24:34Speaker 3: What was that proposal?
- 24:35Speaker 1: That is a.
- 24:36Speaker 2: Pressure I did not really anticipate, but it was still
- 24:40Speaker 2: awesome and horrid at the same time.
- 24:42Speaker 1: Right, so I have this ring. We go to Florida.
- 24:45Speaker 2: Everyone of her friends is like, is Gabe gonna propose
- 24:47Speaker 2: in Florida? And she was like, honestly, I don't think so.
- 24:50Speaker 2: Oh she didn't see it coming. No, she didn't see
- 24:53Speaker 2: that coming. She knew I had it, but she didn't
- 24:54Speaker 2: know I was coming, right, So, Okay, we get to Florida,
- 24:57Speaker 2: and I had a plan in my brain. I'm like, Okay,
- 25:00Speaker 2: I got this plan. Will be here, there will be
- 25:03Speaker 2: someone I could ask to take pictures.
- 25:05Speaker 1: It'll be fine, okay.
- 25:07Speaker 2: Right. Our first day there was probably to this day
- 25:11Speaker 2: just one of the most fun times of our nine
- 25:15Speaker 2: year relationship. We had such a great day. We got
- 25:18Speaker 2: there early. It was just so fun. I don't know
- 25:21Speaker 2: how to describe it. And so I had this ring
- 25:24Speaker 2: in my pocket, that's a bit. I took it on
- 25:26Speaker 2: the plane because I didn't want to lose it, so
- 25:28Speaker 2: just burning a hole literally in my pocket. And we
- 25:32Speaker 2: got back from the end of this day to our
- 25:34Speaker 2: airbnb and I was like, you know, I screw it.
- 25:37Speaker 2: I'm not waiting for tomorrow. Like, let's just end off
- 25:40Speaker 2: the perfect day with the most perfect thing ever.
- 25:42Speaker 1: So your boy, this is what I regret.
- 25:45Speaker 2: Boy, no shirt, no socks, no shoes, just some shorts
- 25:51Speaker 2: on drops down to the old one knee. If it
- 25:54Speaker 2: was a gas station, they wouldn't have let me in,
- 25:56Speaker 2: you know, no service.
- 25:57Speaker 1: Right now.
- 25:58Speaker 2: I said all the right things, and you know, I
- 26:00Speaker 2: did get the tear from the my wife now wife,
- 26:04Speaker 2: so I knew I did a decent enough job. But
- 26:07Speaker 2: looking back, it's like, man, this could have been a
- 26:09Speaker 2: little more, I don't know, like instagram worthy.
- 26:12Speaker 3: Yeah, oh yeah, you didn't.
- 26:14Speaker 4: Want to post shirtless game on Instagram.
- 26:17Speaker 2: Just I could have just waited to the next day
- 26:19Speaker 2: and it would have been fine. But it was just
- 26:21Speaker 2: such a great day. I was like, you know what,
- 26:23Speaker 2: I'm going out on top.
- 26:24Speaker 3: I love that. I think that that means I think
- 26:26Speaker 3: that means more.
- 26:28Speaker 2: Yeah, and it was perfect. Then obviously you know she
- 26:30Speaker 2: said yes, and it's it's been great. But that is
- 26:32Speaker 2: one thing. It's like, oh, man, I propose to a
- 26:34Speaker 2: girl without wearing a shirt or socks.
- 26:37Speaker 1: I didn't have shoes on.
- 26:38Speaker 2: That's the most gave clintoned thing I think I've ever heard.
- 26:46Speaker 2: A Fargo High school student is running a nonprofit organization
- 26:50Speaker 2: to help special education teachers. David Haw is a senior
- 26:54Speaker 2: at Davis High School, and he started the Equal Start
- 26:58Speaker 2: Foundation in early July. After volunteering with his mother at
- 27:01Speaker 2: Gig's Playhouse, he began to research special education. The federal
- 27:06Speaker 2: government had previously promised to fund forty percent, but it
- 27:10Speaker 2: has never exceeded twenty percent. With his foundation, he has
- 27:14Speaker 2: started various fundraisers, with one GoFundMe on raising over eight
- 27:19Speaker 2: hundred dollars. David said, these kids are these kids, they
- 27:23Speaker 2: deserve to have the same education and same opportunities, and
- 27:26Speaker 2: it's not their fault. They were born with something that
- 27:28Speaker 2: makes it harder for them to learn. So I didn't
- 27:30Speaker 2: think it was fair and if no one's going to
- 27:33Speaker 2: do anything about it, if the federal government is not
- 27:35Speaker 2: doing anything, someone needs to step up.
- 27:37Speaker 1: Right.
- 27:38Speaker 2: He is hoping to expand his outreach with his foundation
- 27:41Speaker 2: and collaborate with other organizations, and you can find more
- 27:45Speaker 2: information at the Equal Start Foundation dot squarespace dot com.
- 27:52Speaker 2: This news coming right here in Fargo from a Fargo student.
- 27:56Speaker 4: He is the embodiment of your closing catch Frase.
- 28:00Speaker 2: That's right. The world is full of nice people. If
- 28:02Speaker 2: you can't find one, you gotta be one.
