Speaker 3: The governor of Minnesota, Governor Walls has been picked by
2:00
Speaker 3: Kamala Harris to be her vice presidential running mates. Kind
2:04
Speaker 3: of a surprise there from a lot of people, and
2:06
Speaker 3: again it just broke like in the last five five
2:08
Speaker 3: to ten minutes or so, a lot of people thought
2:10
Speaker 3: it would be Governor Shapiro Adye. Basher's name was thrown
2:13
Speaker 3: out there. But it is going to be Governor Walls
2:16
Speaker 3: w A ls not the way we spell it in
2:18
Speaker 3: West Virginia, but w al Z Walls from Minnesota will
2:22
Speaker 3: be Kamala Harris's running mate. So you want to weigh
2:26
Speaker 3: in on that, send me a text. You're welcome to

2:39
Speaker 3: Tonight at Gomar Ballpark. It's African American Heritage Night and
2:44
Speaker 3: there's some big things. Actually some things started last night,
2:47
Speaker 3: I think with that. So we're going to talk to
2:48
Speaker 3: the toast Man about that. Also, tonight is National Night
2:51
Speaker 3: Out and the Charleston Police Department, of course, always involved
2:55
Speaker 3: in that. LIEUTENA. David Payne from the Police Department will
2:57
Speaker 3: join us to talk about that. Plus your call and
3:00
Speaker 3: text are welcome to I want to welcome into the
3:02
Speaker 3: show now, Canaan County Commissioner not chosen as Kamala Harris's
3:06
Speaker 3: running mate, Ben Selango. How are you man, I'm.
3:09
Speaker 2: Doing great.
3:11
Speaker 4: By that pick.
3:11
Speaker 3: Surprised by that pick?
3:13
Speaker 5: Yes, yes, So when you and I walked into the
3:17
Speaker 5: room and you said, oh, she picked her running mate Walls,
3:20
Speaker 5: and I said, Who's I didn't realize he was in
3:23
Speaker 5: the on the list. I honestly thought it was going
3:24
Speaker 5: to be Shapiro, and I thought I wanted it to
3:27
Speaker 5: be Andy, but Sheer, but I didn't think that would
3:29
Speaker 5: be enough.
3:29
Speaker 3: For most list had him in the top five that
3:31
Speaker 3: I saw. There were some other names being flown out there,
3:33
Speaker 3: floated out there, but yet it's give it her God
3:36
Speaker 3: of surprise me. I mean, like I said, I was
3:37
Speaker 3: walking down the stairs and got an alert on my phone.
3:39
Speaker 3: In a minute of getting here, I turned on the
3:41
Speaker 3: TV and that's that's.
3:42
Speaker 4: What we see.
3:43
Speaker 3: I'd like to see what the strategy is.
3:45
Speaker 5: I'm sure when we when I leave here, I'll read
3:47
Speaker 5: about it, and I'm sure that makes sense at that point.
3:48
Speaker 3: I'm sure you'll have a phone call waiting on you, sir.
3:50
Speaker 3: We get back at your office, what does Selango think?
3:53
Speaker 5: No, nobody cares about it.
3:54
Speaker 3: I want to focus on a couple of things with
3:57
Speaker 3: you this morning, Stir. I want to start with Seanye.
3:59
Speaker 3: Last week there was some work I understand, being there's
4:02
Speaker 3: always work going on out there, some some sort. But
4:04
Speaker 3: yesterday there was social media buzz. What's going on? What's
4:07
Speaker 3: going on? So give us a little summary of what
4:10
Speaker 3: some things that have been going on recently.
4:11
Speaker 5: So two things going on right now. I mean, obviously,
4:13
Speaker 5: we wanted to address the security concern, the security issue
4:17
Speaker 5: following the shooting near the ballpark. It wasn't in the
4:20
Speaker 5: ball aright, although you know, when I first got the call,
4:23
Speaker 5: they said it was actually in the ballpark and that
4:25
Speaker 5: there were bullets rickish hanging off of the bleachers. That
4:28
Speaker 5: was turns out to be not true, but that was
4:29
Speaker 5: the first call that I receive. But so the shooting
4:32
Speaker 5: happened about two blocks away. But what it created was
4:34
Speaker 5: a panic and people running for the fences, some of
4:37
Speaker 5: which were locked. So what we did is we went back,
4:43
Speaker 5: we did an after we had a review a couple
4:46
Speaker 5: of days later. You know, everybody that there been trained
4:49
Speaker 5: on you know, active shooter drills. We've had training on
4:52
Speaker 5: how to get people out of the facility, and we
4:55
Speaker 5: do it all the time when there are weather problems.
4:57
Speaker 5: I mean, if there's lightning, we actually have to remove
5:00
Speaker 5: everyone from not just the what I call the soccer side,
5:03
Speaker 5: but also the baseball side. They have to actually go
5:04
Speaker 5: to their cars. You can't just sit out there in
5:05
Speaker 5: the open. So, you know, we have a lot of
5:07
Speaker 5: experience in getting people out of the park, but not
5:09
Speaker 5: like that. That was different, and so what we wanted
5:12
Speaker 5: to do was go in and replace some of the
5:16
Speaker 5: gates and add new gates. So there are emergency exit bars,
5:20
Speaker 5: kind of like you'd see in a like in a school,
5:22
Speaker 5: where you can push the bar and the door opens,
5:25
Speaker 5: but yet it locks from the outside. So we want
5:28
Speaker 5: people to be able to get out in the case
5:29
Speaker 5: of emergency, but we don't want people who are outside
5:32
Speaker 5: who might be wanting to come in and cause trouble
5:34
Speaker 5: to be able to get in. So we've done that.
5:36
Speaker 5: Mc neil fence has worked with us. I think they
5:39
Speaker 5: finished up last week installing those emergency bars and so
5:44
Speaker 5: we have those in place now. We're also working on
5:49
Speaker 5: an expansion of of the entrance building. You know, ZMM
5:54
Speaker 5: did the design. We're going to break ground on it
5:57
Speaker 5: on Thursday. What we've done there when we did our
6:00
Speaker 5: when we did the welcome center, it was about twenty
6:02
Speaker 5: five hundred square feet, The restroom capacity was limited, you know, Shawnee.
6:08
Speaker 5: We knew it would be successful, we didn't know how
6:12
Speaker 5: successful it would be. You know, in the last six years,
6:14
Speaker 5: it's generated one hundred and thirty million dollars in economic impact.
6:18
Speaker 5: And so what we saw when we had these large tournaments,
6:21
Speaker 5: including five out of the last six years we've hosted
6:24
Speaker 5: the largest tournament in the East Coast, which is the
6:26
Speaker 5: us U Soccer Eastern Regional Tournament. We've had that there
6:29
Speaker 5: at Shawnee and also at Barbersville. But we had long
6:32
Speaker 5: lines at the restrooms. We had long lines at concessions.
6:35
Speaker 5: In fact, when we had big tournaments, we couldn't even
6:37
Speaker 5: use as the concession building. We had to set up
6:40
Speaker 5: a separate stand if you will. That doesn't really do
6:45
Speaker 5: it justice. We had, you know, a bunch of tables
6:47
Speaker 5: under gigantic tent. And so what we wanted to do
6:50
Speaker 5: was apply for some grants and if we were able
6:52
Speaker 5: to get the grants, that we would expand that building.
6:55
Speaker 5: And so We're going from a twenty five hundred square
6:57
Speaker 5: foot building to a twelve thousand square foot building. Shouldn't
7:01
Speaker 5: have lines in the restroom, you know, shouldn't have lines
7:03
Speaker 5: there anymore. It's going to have a commercial kitchen, it's
7:06
Speaker 5: going to have a meeting space for referees, for coaches,
7:11
Speaker 5: there's going to be an observation deck. It is a
7:13
Speaker 5: significant upgrade. And thankfully, you know, Senator Mansion came through
7:18
Speaker 5: and Governor Justice came through. We were able to get
7:21
Speaker 5: about four million dollars, so eighty percent of it is
7:23
Speaker 5: funded through federal on state grants and in.
7:26
Speaker 3: Doing some of the reading, you know, things on social media.
7:28
Speaker 3: That's one of the I don't want to say criticisms
7:31
Speaker 3: of Shannie, but it's been one of the concerns. I'll
7:33
Speaker 3: put it that way.
7:34
Speaker 5: No, it's it's a criticism, and it's a it's a
7:36
Speaker 5: deserved criticism, quite frankly, because when we when we designed
7:39
Speaker 5: that building, and you know, I take responsibility for it,
7:42
Speaker 5: I didn't think we needed, you know, restrooms that look
7:45
Speaker 5: like Mountaineer Field, but we do, you know, so we've
7:49
Speaker 5: got to have expanded restrooms. We've got us have expanded concessions,
7:54
Speaker 5: and even though you know, the building's only six years
7:57
Speaker 5: old and we have to expand it now, we wanted
7:59
Speaker 5: to listen to what people are saying. We get criticisms
8:03
Speaker 5: all the time. I mean, the place is not perfect.
8:05
Speaker 5: It never will be perfect. But you know, as long
8:07
Speaker 5: as I'm around, I'm going to try to make it perfect.
8:10
Speaker 5: I will fail in that effort. But you know, we
8:13
Speaker 5: had if you look out at the forty acres of
8:15
Speaker 5: grass area, it looked like a cow pasture, quite frankly,
8:18
Speaker 5: and so we've made significant upgrades out there as well,
8:21
Speaker 5: and we have some of the nicest grass fields in
8:25
Speaker 5: the state of West Virginia, and quite frankly, except for
8:28
Speaker 5: a few in Ohio, some of the best on the
8:30
Speaker 5: East coast. I mean, it's really with what we're able
8:33
Speaker 5: to work with. I mean, we can't really grow bermuda
8:35
Speaker 5: grass all the time. So with what we have to
8:37
Speaker 5: work with, those are outstanding field. USU Soccer came in
8:41
Speaker 5: and gave us some ideas on what we could do
8:44
Speaker 5: to improve to keep getting their tournaments, and you know,
8:47
Speaker 5: those suggestions were well received, and we want to keep
8:51
Speaker 5: bringing those in because every time we bring in the
8:54
Speaker 5: President's cut. For instance, it's an eight million dollar economic impact.
8:57
Speaker 5: When we bring in the big tournament, which is the
8:59
Speaker 5: Eastern Regional, it's a twenty four million dollar economic impact
9:02
Speaker 5: over five days, which is tremendous. So we want to
9:05
Speaker 5: keep upgrading the facility. If you're you know, if you're
9:07
Speaker 5: sitting steel, then people are passing you by, and we
9:10
Speaker 5: don't want that to happen.
9:11
Speaker 3: Talking to Canda a Count Chemistry, Ben Salango, Dave Island
9:14
Speaker 3: Show and five eighty Live brought to you apart by
9:15
Speaker 3: Bridge Valley. Are you interested in improving your company's IT workforce?
9:19
Speaker 3: You're gonna want to know. Bridge Value offers custom tailored
9:22
Speaker 3: IT training to Bridge of Skills gat Bridge Valley trained

Speaker 3: for little or no cost, fifty to fifty salary match available.
9:27
Speaker 3: It can also supply skilled graduates and apprenticeships for your company.
9:30
Speaker 3: Visit Bridge Valley dot edu. Slashed apprenticeships today, all right,
9:33
Speaker 3: So the Commission and others a little bit bothered by
9:38
Speaker 3: by power by power bills.
9:39
Speaker 5: A little bit bothered a is an understatement.
9:42
Speaker 3: What's up with that?
9:43
Speaker 2: You know?
9:44
Speaker 5: And I think you know, Chris Lawrence did a great job.
9:46
Speaker 5: If you pull up their Metro news and then Mike Tony,
9:49
Speaker 5: of course, and the gazette mail kind of outlined all
9:52
Speaker 5: of the different rate increase. Of course, aplastm Power says, oh,
9:55
Speaker 5: we haven't had a rate increase. It's a two or
9:57
Speaker 5: sixty five million dollar rate increase that they've requested. They say, oh,
9:59
Speaker 5: we haven't had a base rate increase since twenty eighteen.
10:02
Speaker 5: But if I actually go back and look at what
10:04
Speaker 5: they what they've done, they don't call it a base
10:08
Speaker 5: rate increase. But every single possible thing they can ask
10:11
Speaker 5: for a rate increase they come in and ask for
10:13
Speaker 5: and they always ask for a lot more than they want,
10:15
Speaker 5: thinking that the PSC, the Public Service Commission will kind
10:20
Speaker 5: of meet him in the middle, or you know, and
10:22
Speaker 5: it's just it's unaffordable, you know. Mike tone news article,
10:26
Speaker 5: I know you've got it on your desk over there.
10:27
Speaker 5: But it even cites that West Virginia has had a
10:32
Speaker 5: ninety percent increase in its utilities since twenty five, ninety percent,
10:38
Speaker 5: so it's almost doubled. Everything's doubled over the last say
10:41
Speaker 5: twenty years, and there's no end in sight, you know.
10:45
Speaker 5: And what we have and I give a lot of
10:47
Speaker 5: credit Former Commissioner Carper used to raise hell about these
10:53
Speaker 5: rate heights. He would go up and he would testify,
10:55
Speaker 5: and so we're going to keep that going. You know,
10:58
Speaker 5: we can't we just sit by and let this happen.
11:01
Speaker 5: It's gonna slide through and nobody's gonna notice until you
11:04
Speaker 5: get your first bill. And so I know, I spoke
11:07
Speaker 5: with the commission President Lance Wheeler yesterday, and we intend
11:10
Speaker 5: to oppose that Commissioner Slotnik. We're gonna do everything we can.
11:14
Speaker 5: There's a public hearing coming up. You know, we either
11:16
Speaker 5: submit testimony or we'll appill up here in person, you
11:20
Speaker 5: can make public comment, and that's what we need to do.
11:23
Speaker 5: We've got to make sure that we stand up and
11:25
Speaker 5: fight these utility increases because it's just adding up over
11:29
Speaker 5: and over and over, and they can come up with
11:31
Speaker 5: creative ways to call it, you know, even if it's
11:34
Speaker 5: not a base rate increase, it's a fuel surcharge, or
11:37
Speaker 5: it's an environmental increase. And but the hell they just
11:40
Speaker 5: they just did one and it was what thirty seven
11:46
Speaker 5: million dollars just got approved and and so that within
11:51
Speaker 5: the last few weeks, and now they're doing another one
11:53
Speaker 5: and it's just continuous. It's unaffordable. It's simply not sustainable.
11:57
Speaker 3: Have you looked, Commissioner, Have you looked at or the
11:59
Speaker 3: commission or anybody looked at other states, I mean totally
12:02
Speaker 3: unrelated of that aren't regulated and don't use applelcham. Have
12:05
Speaker 3: you looked at Montana or Texas or Kansas or fill
12:08
Speaker 3: in other states? They how are we in line with
12:11
Speaker 3: those states?
12:11
Speaker 5: So you know, the way that they calculate those increases
12:14
Speaker 5: is or the way that we judge us compared to
12:17
Speaker 5: other states a little bit different. It's basically per capita,
12:20
Speaker 5: and we're going up a lot faster than others, a
12:24
Speaker 5: lot faster. In fact, you know, one of the articles
12:27
Speaker 5: that I read this morning said that we ores had
12:29
Speaker 5: gone up second fastest in the nation. Only one other
12:32
Speaker 5: state was being increased more than us. And of course,
12:36
Speaker 5: the parent company AP has reported twenty five billion in
12:40
Speaker 5: profit over the last twenty four months, so it's not
12:43
Speaker 5: like they're hurting from twenty five billion in profit, and
12:46
Speaker 5: yet we're just continually getting these rate increases.
12:50
Speaker 3: Me and I got a couple of texts here at
12:51
Speaker 3: Texas how much going back to Shawnee, how much of
12:54
Speaker 3: the updated fence gates costs? Also tell the truth. The
12:57
Speaker 3: gates don't open from the outside because you don't want
13:00
Speaker 3: people getting in for free, not to stop bad actors
13:03
Speaker 3: from getting in. Why are we building a brand new building.
13:05
Speaker 3: Seems like that building was a waste of taxpayer money.
13:08
Speaker 5: Yeah, disagree on that.
13:10
Speaker 3: First of all, pops out on his head, but god, yeah,
13:12
Speaker 3: there's o fat on my head. It might have your wrinkles.
13:16
Speaker 5: So we generally don't charge admission at Shawnee, And so
13:20
Speaker 5: you know I read that before someone comment at all,
13:23
Speaker 5: we're just trying to keep people out from paying.
13:25
Speaker 4: That's not true.
13:26
Speaker 5: I would say ninety five percent of the events there
13:29
Speaker 5: there's not a gate charge. I think football sometimes when
13:32
Speaker 5: they have football teams, but Shawnee does not charge a gate.
13:36
Speaker 5: So but if we rent out the facility sometimes the
13:39
Speaker 5: tournament directors will charge agate, but Shawnee doesn't charge a gate.
13:43
Speaker 5: Most of the things that we have there are absolutely free.
13:46
Speaker 5: So Number one, that's untrue. What do the gates cost?
13:51
Speaker 5: I think it was around twenty to thirty thousand, but
13:54
Speaker 5: don't quote me on that. We'll have to go back
13:56
Speaker 5: and look. Because we added new gates. Also, there was
14:00
Speaker 5: a long stretch, particularly over in the grass area where
14:05
Speaker 5: you could walk for days and not find a gate.
14:07
Speaker 5: I mean, because that's a big, big area. So if
14:09
Speaker 5: you walk along the western Ya state side, there were
14:12
Speaker 5: no gates over there that would you could exit that way.
14:15
Speaker 5: You'd actually have to walk all the way around down
14:17
Speaker 5: by the river and around to the front where the shooting,
14:22
Speaker 5: you know where the shooting happened to get out. And
14:25
Speaker 5: so we fixed that. Now we didn't have anybody trying
14:28
Speaker 5: to climb those gates over in the grass. But because
14:31
Speaker 5: we were fixing the others, we said we need to
14:33
Speaker 5: go ahead and do it. The first building. They ask
14:35
Speaker 5: about the costs. I think the first building, if I'm
14:37
Speaker 5: not correct, If I'm correct, was around four hundred thousand dollars.
14:41
Speaker 5: This new building is going to be five million dollars. Again,
14:45
Speaker 5: eighty percent of it funded with grants.
14:47
Speaker 3: Okay, tex says can Commissioner Salang Go work with the
14:50
Speaker 3: county parks folks to look into adding a first responder
14:54
Speaker 3: and military discount at Coonskin and Big Ben golf courses.
14:57
Speaker 3: Little Creek offers a discount which is managed by South
14:59
Speaker 3: Charles not the county. Would like to play the county
15:02
Speaker 3: courses but have to stay within limits of my humble
15:05
Speaker 3: golf budget.
15:06
Speaker 4: Text.
15:07
Speaker 5: That's a good idea.
15:07
Speaker 4: I like that idea. Yes, I will.
15:09
Speaker 5: I will send an email commission Presdent Wheeler is on
15:13
Speaker 5: the parks board. I will text him when I leave.
15:15
Speaker 3: All right, Texas utility should be nonprofit period, Appleatchia Power
15:19
Speaker 3: bragget about record profits in one breath and wanting the
15:22
Speaker 3: increase of an X. Why does the PSC throw that
15:25
Speaker 3: back in their face?
15:26
Speaker 5: Well, I think they do, and fairness, I think the
15:28
Speaker 5: PSC does, But I think that a lot of times,
15:30
Speaker 5: you know, the PSC doesn't want to completely outrate deny
15:34
Speaker 5: a request because then you know they also want improvements
15:38
Speaker 5: to the infrastructure, and so they're kind of in a
15:41
Speaker 5: catch twenty two. The problem is there's just so many requests.
15:44
Speaker 5: There's so many, it's over and over and over, and
15:46
Speaker 5: at some point you've got to draw the line. And yes,
15:49
Speaker 5: they do brag to their shareholders. AP brags through the
15:51
Speaker 5: shareholders about record profits and how much the shares are
15:55
Speaker 5: increasing and dividends and all these great things. And that's fine,
15:59
Speaker 5: you know, I'm all out that. But you can't then
16:01
Speaker 5: just come in in front of the PS and poormouth
16:03
Speaker 5: it and say, oh, we need an extra you know,
16:05
Speaker 5: two hundred and sixty five million dollars.
16:07
Speaker 3: Uh, just don't want to.
16:08
Speaker 5: Don't call us out on the fact that we had,
16:10
Speaker 5: you know, twenty five billion dollars in profit over the
16:13
Speaker 5: last twenty four months.
16:14
Speaker 3: Yeah, left, don't look at what the right hand's doing. Really,
16:17
Speaker 3: all right, we got to wrap it up. But I
16:18
Speaker 3: want you to be about sixty seconds. What is the
16:20
Speaker 3: latest on the on the not the not so capital
16:23
Speaker 3: Sports Complex, because we can't call it that. We understand
16:26
Speaker 3: parking garage situation, so on and so for we're here
16:29
Speaker 3: about sixty seconds.
16:29
Speaker 5: So the latest is we are meeting to go over
16:33
Speaker 5: the final design. As soon as that is done, I
16:35
Speaker 5: think that's going to happen this week. We go into
16:38
Speaker 5: the architectural part where people a lot smarter than me
16:41
Speaker 5: are going to sit down and design this thing and
16:44
Speaker 5: then we start construction.
16:45
Speaker 4: So that's where we are.
16:46
Speaker 3: Okay, parking garadges may I know the Mayor touched on
16:48
Speaker 3: a little bit yesterday.
16:49
Speaker 5: But parking garages are not in our possession, and so
16:54
Speaker 5: that's where I can That's where I'll leave it right now.
16:56
Speaker 5: And the story and I will tell you that the
16:58
Speaker 5: Mayor and I spent a year and a half working
17:00
Speaker 5: on this, trying to get everything within our possession, but
17:04
Speaker 5: we so far have not been successful.
17:07
Speaker 3: Okay, when you say you're so far not been successful,
17:09
Speaker 3: is it it done? Is it dead in the water,
17:11
Speaker 3: or is there something that happened in the future.
17:13
Speaker 5: I can't predict the future. I'm always looking. I know
17:17
Speaker 5: the Mayor is always looking. But right now we've got
17:19
Speaker 5: to make We've got to move forward with what we have.
17:21
Speaker 5: I'm not going to lay the project anymore. We need
17:24
Speaker 5: to move forward, Kenna.

20:47
Speaker 3: Rod Blackstone is with us. Rod, good morning, Welcome to
20:50
Speaker 3: the show. So, but before we get to tonight, let's
20:52
Speaker 3: talk about what happened last night. You had some activities
20:54
Speaker 3: over there last night as well.
20:55
Speaker 11: Well.
20:55
Speaker 4: Last night, August fifth, twenty four was the actual fifth
20:59
Speaker 4: anniversary of the first time we did this, which was Monday,
21:01
Speaker 4: August fifth, twenty nineteen. First time any sports organization in
21:05
Speaker 4: West Virginia to our knowledge did a celebration of African Americans,
21:08
Speaker 4: and so sort of the fifth anniversary celebration. The committee
21:12
Speaker 4: that's led by Jennifer Farr, a city councilwoman, and Chante
21:16
Speaker 4: Ellis from the YWCA Center for Racial Equity and Inclusion,
21:20
Speaker 4: and Chanelle Collins, who is with a partnership for African
21:23
Speaker 4: American Churches. They said, well, a long time ago, let's
21:25
Speaker 4: do something special. Tim Brady heard Roberto Clemente Junior speak
21:29
Speaker 4: at a function he was at, and he said, oh,
21:33
Speaker 4: this guy would be great. It's a great connection. As
21:37
Speaker 4: Roberto Cleman Junior pointed out last night, if you look
21:39
Speaker 4: at the foundation of our DNA, he goes back to
21:42
Speaker 4: the Congo, and we all go back probably to Mesopotamia
21:46
Speaker 4: in some way or another. So we are so he
21:49
Speaker 4: tied it together, not just a Latino for African American
21:52
Speaker 4: Heritage Night, and also his dad was subjected to a
21:55
Speaker 4: lot of discrimination on Pittsburgh, which I learned more about
21:59
Speaker 4: having grown up up outside of Pittsburgh. Of course, I
22:02
Speaker 4: love Roberto Clementary. That was one of some of the
22:03
Speaker 4: first it's required it is now, But I'll tell you what,
22:07
Speaker 4: when he was playing in the late fifties and early sixties,
22:11
Speaker 4: they were very derisive about his language skills. Now I
22:14
Speaker 4: am convinced, as a unilingual person who's tried to learn.
22:19
Speaker 3: Other languages, I'm doing good with English.
22:21
Speaker 4: Yeah, well, I'm not even doing that sometimes. But some
22:24
Speaker 4: of the smartest people are the ones who have to
22:26
Speaker 4: learn two different languages, and that happens to a lot
22:29
Speaker 4: of Latino players as they come here. I know Edison Surrey,
22:32
Speaker 4: l on our baseball team is from the Dominican Republic.
22:34
Speaker 4: He taught himself effectively to learn English as he had
22:38
Speaker 4: started up through the affiliated system, and now he's pretty
22:43
Speaker 4: fluent in all of both English and Spanish. And I'm thinking, Wow,
22:47
Speaker 4: he's smarter than I am to have to to be
22:49
Speaker 4: able to turn on a dime in the middle of
22:51
Speaker 4: a sentence. Sometimes he'll be on the phone with his
22:54
Speaker 4: wife in the middle of a sentence and then turn
22:55
Speaker 4: to me and start talking English because he knows I
22:57
Speaker 4: have no idea. My mind had had to undergo some
23:01
Speaker 4: of that, some of that, oh transitional bigotry.
23:06
Speaker 3: I watched the documentary not long ago about the life
23:08
Speaker 3: I watched a documentary on anybody, but I watched a
23:11
Speaker 3: documentary about the life of Roberto Clemente and I a
23:14
Speaker 3: little before my time, but I do remember, you know, uh,
23:18
Speaker 3: he still was on everybody's minds in the seventies when
23:21
Speaker 3: I was growing up in mid seventies, I guess, and
23:24
Speaker 3: I just assumed he was this universally loved person in
23:26
Speaker 3: Pittsburgh because I had friends where I had coworkers that
23:29
Speaker 3: were from Pittsburgh, and they talked about him and glowing terms.
23:31
Speaker 3: But NANDAZ he had. He had a lot of issues
23:33
Speaker 3: with the media and with the fans in Pittsburgh, in
23:36
Speaker 3: the city he was playing in.
23:37
Speaker 4: And he was a pioneer. He was a pioneer in
23:39
Speaker 4: many ways because he was one of the most prominent
23:41
Speaker 4: Latino baseball players that would that started sort of emerging
23:46
Speaker 4: as a superstar and realizing, oh wow, there's some talent
23:50
Speaker 4: down there too that we need to look at and
23:51
Speaker 4: that we need to bring in. So he bore the brunt.
23:54
Speaker 4: Not quite like Jackie Robinson. I mean, the way Jackie
23:57
Speaker 4: Robinson was treated is was despicable by a lot of
24:00
Speaker 4: the fans. But Roberto was hardly welcomed with open arms
24:04
Speaker 4: as he was becoming the superstar and the humanitarian, which
24:09
Speaker 4: ended up getting him killed.
24:10
Speaker 3: Yeah, that's what he was doing when he when the
24:12
Speaker 3: plane crashed. So so that was last night. What do
24:14
Speaker 3: you got going on tonight?
24:15
Speaker 4: Well this afternoon.
24:16
Speaker 3: By the way, congratulations on the I'm going to give
24:18
Speaker 3: you a big props on the jersey there. So that's
24:20
Speaker 3: a sweet looking Grays.
24:22
Speaker 4: Said Christmas from African American Heritage Night number three, whenever
24:26
Speaker 4: we had our players wearing the Homestead Grays uniforms, jerseys and.
24:29
Speaker 3: Probably probably the most successful Negro League team.
24:33
Speaker 4: I think so, and also the one that is sort
24:34
Speaker 4: of closest and most prominent for this area because Kansas
24:39
Speaker 4: City Monarchs, you can make that argument, and that's where
24:42
Speaker 4: they have a museum honoring the Negro leagues. But we
24:45
Speaker 4: have five years effectively of promoting African American heritage and
24:48
Speaker 4: being able to reach out to segment of the population
24:52
Speaker 4: that is largely underrepresented. Now you and I were growing
24:55
Speaker 4: up in Coop. Of course, now they's reached age and
25:01
Speaker 4: some of the best African American athletes were choosing baseball.
25:04
Speaker 4: Bob Gibson, Dave Winfield, Dave Parker, Hank Aaron, Willie Mays,
25:09
Speaker 4: Willie McCovey. They're choosing baseball. That doesn't happen as much anymore.
25:12
Speaker 4: So one of the things we're doing today is to
25:15
Speaker 4: have a clinic that reaches out to folks and kids
25:18
Speaker 4: in the community to say, hey, think about baseball, And
25:21
Speaker 4: thanks to the YWCA, we're giving them gloves so they
25:24
Speaker 4: can might be introduced to baseball. And who knows, maybe
25:27
Speaker 4: we'll get to the next Lou Brock or Willie McCovey
25:30
Speaker 4: that comes through. But anyway, so that's today and then
25:32
Speaker 4: tonight the big show starts. Now we've got to put
25:35
Speaker 4: up with the heat, but it's there's gonna be some
25:38
Speaker 4: hot talent on the field too, and a hot team
25:41
Speaker 4: that's in first place by the way too at this point,
25:43
Speaker 4: because the Dirty Birds are a game up in first
25:46
Speaker 4: place in the Northern Division for the Southern Division for
25:48
Speaker 4: the second half championship. But tonight Kit of the Great
25:52
Speaker 4: who has four point two million followers on Instagram and
25:57
Speaker 4: is roughly what you do, Yeah, I might have four
26:01
Speaker 4: point two followers, and he's going to be there as
26:04
Speaker 4: entertainment Shalem. We're also celebrating local talent Shalem Garden and
26:09
Speaker 4: also Zeno's before the game as well, and so we'll
26:13
Speaker 4: have a commemorative ticket that people can exchange their main
26:17
Speaker 4: ticket for a commemorative ticket. That's a fifth anniversary celebration,
26:20
Speaker 4: so it's going to be a really big deal. We've
26:22
Speaker 4: got all kinds of community organizations are going to be
26:24
Speaker 4: out there at the ballpark supporting the cause too. But
26:28
Speaker 4: we'll be in left field. Gates opened at five, Entertainment
26:31
Speaker 4: starts at five point thirty, and we'll also have some
26:33
Speaker 4: players that'll come out, and we're having the clinic. Principally,
26:36
Speaker 4: this is the clinic that happens this afternoon. Was sort
26:38
Speaker 4: of a brainchild of ROBERTA. Smith. Reverend Burdasmith is head
26:42
Speaker 4: of the Charleston Black Minister Alliance. Years ago when she
26:44
Speaker 4: was more actively involved in the committee, she said, we
26:46
Speaker 4: need to reach kids in the community and get them
26:49
Speaker 4: excited about baseball. So now that we have PJ. Phillips
26:52
Speaker 4: and Rob Carson African American leadership on our team on
26:56
Speaker 4: the field. This made the perfect year to do that.
26:58
Speaker 4: So it's going to be a great night, and it's
27:00
Speaker 4: going to be it will be a hot night, but
27:02
Speaker 4: we're trying to get the kids out. It's in addition
27:05
Speaker 4: to talking about African American heritage, which was the foundation
27:08
Speaker 4: that we started on for the kids. For the future
27:11
Speaker 4: has been the theme for the last three years because
27:13
Speaker 4: as you look back, we still need to look to
27:16
Speaker 4: the future, and the kids are our future. To be
27:18
Speaker 4: able to celebrate the heritage of African Americans in our community,
27:22
Speaker 4: in baseball and all the different ways that a whole
27:25
Speaker 4: lot of different people have made our community greater over
27:28
Speaker 4: the years and baseball greater over the years, and be
27:31
Speaker 4: able to pass that on to the next generation of
27:33
Speaker 4: potential baseball fans and or baseball players. Last year we
27:37
Speaker 4: had about four thousand people. It wasn't quite this hot.
27:41
Speaker 4: And it's a great community celebration. It's where we come
27:43
Speaker 4: together and we look like a community and and we
27:47
Speaker 4: bask in the glow of baseball universal language, especially if
27:50
Speaker 4: you ask James Earl Jones slash Terrence Man exactly.
27:53
Speaker 3: You're talking to Rod Blake's over the Dirty Birds, Dave Allen,
27:56
Speaker 3: Chill and five vide Live Brad Too part by Morgadeborgan.
27:58
Speaker 3: If you're injured, hire morgadeborg In, America's largest injury law firm.
28:01
Speaker 3: You mentioned the youth, why is it so important that
28:07
Speaker 3: they learn about this history? And you mentioned miss Phillips,
28:11
Speaker 3: who's the manager of the Dirty Birds, and you know
28:14
Speaker 3: he was introduced. I've had him on the shows over
28:16
Speaker 3: at the ballpark. When he was introduced, nobody thought a
28:20
Speaker 3: thing about it. Thirty forty years ago, having a black
28:23
Speaker 3: manager would have been maybe a little bit more than
28:26
Speaker 3: that would have been very significant. Now we're getting to
28:30
Speaker 3: the point where it's not anymore, which is a good thing.
28:33
Speaker 3: It's a much better thing. I remember hearing I think
28:37
Speaker 3: it was James Harris, who was a quarterback for the
28:39
Speaker 3: Rams or Chargers in the early and early mid seventies, saying,
28:42
Speaker 3: I long for the day when I'm not a black quarterback.
28:44
Speaker 3: I'm just a quarterback. Nobody talks about that. But for
28:47
Speaker 3: the young people, why is it important for them to
28:49
Speaker 3: learn about the negro leagues and learn about the struggles
28:52
Speaker 3: of African Americans, Latinos, anybody non white getting in to baseball.
28:58
Speaker 4: I would argue that that's should be the way it
29:00
Speaker 4: is in all of society. I think we need to
29:02
Speaker 4: learn a whole lot more about where we've been, especially
29:05
Speaker 4: as it relates to race. I am part of the
29:07
Speaker 4: dominant demographic of the United States history, white Protestant, male
29:13
Speaker 4: property owner, and so I recognize that that's the dominant
29:17
Speaker 4: that has been the dominant demographic. But I think when
29:20
Speaker 4: we have been great as a country is whenever we've
29:22
Speaker 4: been able to embrace that the melting pot does not
29:25
Speaker 4: just look like a cream of potato, soup and so
29:29
Speaker 4: and so. I think what we need to do is
29:31
Speaker 4: learn more about why were the negro leagues? Why do
29:34
Speaker 4: the negro leagues have to exist in the first place,
29:37
Speaker 4: because people were excluded. And one of the things that
29:40
Speaker 4: baseball has done better and been a forerunner of society
29:44
Speaker 4: if you think about Jackie Robinson in that timeframe, was
29:47
Speaker 4: to become more inclusive. And as you become more inclusive,
29:51
Speaker 4: I think you broaden the breadth of talent. There's so
29:54
Speaker 4: many people that I know and I've been blessed to
29:57
Speaker 4: know that don't look like me, don't live like me,
29:59
Speaker 4: don't belie, leave exactly like I do, don't even vote
30:01
Speaker 4: like I do necessarily who I have learned so much from.
30:05
Speaker 4: And so I think that's that's what we need to
30:07
Speaker 4: do as a society more is to be able to
30:09
Speaker 4: embrace the differences among us and learn from each other.
30:12
Speaker 4: If we are, if we continue to be surrounded just
30:15
Speaker 4: by our horizons and don't decide to look outside of
30:18
Speaker 4: our horizons, will become less less, less passionate, less involved,
30:24
Speaker 4: less creative, less intelligent people. And so that's one of

34:48
Speaker 3: for the Charleston Police Deprimit joins us. Now, Lieutenant, good morning,
34:50
Speaker 3: welcome to the show.
34:52
Speaker 14: Good morning, thanks for having me.
34:53
Speaker 3: Thank you for being here. So what exactly is National
34:56
Speaker 3: Night Out?
34:57
Speaker 14: Well, National Night Out against Crime is basically we come
35:00
Speaker 14: together with the community to show our support and to
35:03
Speaker 14: share information about the crimes in your neighborhood, how to
35:06
Speaker 14: report them, and just to get to know each other.
35:09
Speaker 3: And this event's been going on for how long? I
35:11
Speaker 3: mean it's several decades, right, Well.
35:13
Speaker 14: Yeah, it actually started in nineteen eighty four in Philadelphia.
35:17
Speaker 8: And I know that.
35:18
Speaker 3: As I said, there are police departments and communities coming
35:20
Speaker 3: together across the nation and even even here in the
35:23
Speaker 3: Kanauh Valley. Charleston is not the only one that's involved
35:26
Speaker 3: in this. Are several communities that are doing it within
35:28
Speaker 3: their walls of their community.
35:30
Speaker 14: Correct. This takes place every year the first Tuesday in
35:33
Speaker 14: August and it's just a really everyone gets together to
35:37
Speaker 14: show their support and basically hopefully we can like this
35:41
Speaker 14: crime thing we have.
35:43
Speaker 3: So tell us specifically for Charleston, what's going to be
35:46
Speaker 3: going on tonight.
35:47
Speaker 14: So tonight our fiftivities are going to kick off at
35:50
Speaker 14: five o'clock at Orchard Manor. There's going to be an introduction,
35:55
Speaker 14: a little talk, and then we have actually a first
35:57
Speaker 14: respond to a parade that's going to take place at
35:59
Speaker 14: five point thirty. You'll hear the fire trucks, the police cars, motorcycles, sirens,
36:04
Speaker 14: those kinds of things, and we're gonna basically parade around
36:06
Speaker 14: the neighborhoods and then we're gonna come back to Orchard
36:09
Speaker 14: Manor and that's when all the festivities will actually take
36:12
Speaker 14: place at six o'clock. We have several going on throughout
36:15
Speaker 14: the community. We have that Orchard Manor, carol Terrace, we
36:20
Speaker 14: have Washington Manor, Gershon Avenue nine hundred block to sixth Avenue,
36:25
Speaker 14: and South Park. At these places, we'll have food, we'll
36:29
Speaker 14: have music, we'll have backpack giveaways, family resources will be there,
36:37
Speaker 14: just a lot of good times, really really good times
36:39
Speaker 14: come together. We'll have police officers at each location just
36:42
Speaker 14: to talk to the neighbors and really getting them involved
36:45
Speaker 14: with each other also and letting them know if you
36:48
Speaker 14: see something, say something, and how to do it and
36:51
Speaker 14: really just coming together as a community.

37:04
Speaker 3: Lieutenant Paine, you probably hit the nail on the head
37:06
Speaker 3: there with the communication that goes on between these communities
37:09
Speaker 3: and their police. And again, and it's not this is
37:12
Speaker 3: not necessarily just a Charleston thing. It could be anywhere
37:15
Speaker 3: they any but time people see police in their neighborhood,
37:18
Speaker 3: they think it's a bad thing. And I guess the
37:20
Speaker 3: whole idea here is to say, look, these are your friends.
37:25
Speaker 3: It's not a bad thing that you have police in
37:27
Speaker 3: the neighborhood.
37:28
Speaker 14: Oh correct. You know, without without neighbors, we couldn't do
37:31
Speaker 14: the things that we do. They help us out a lot,
37:34
Speaker 14: and we help them out a lot. But really just
37:36
Speaker 14: showing that, yes, we we are people. We enjoy coming
37:39
Speaker 14: out to the community and seeing everyone, and we're not
37:41
Speaker 14: only there when bad things happen.
37:44
Speaker 3: Weather looks good, as I was just talking to Rod
37:46

37:48

Speaker 3: Let me knock out a couple of textures. Here Texas says,
39:41
Speaker 3: so cackle's name calling. Here about Kamala Harris gets a
39:46
Speaker 3: fellow Marxist. Tim Walls, a governor who replaced Minnesota state
39:49

39:53
Speaker 3: Your chance for our republished future has never been more clear.
39:56
Speaker 3: Wake the hell up, moderate Democrats? What's wrong with some
39:58
Speaker 3: of you? Look at all these seen videos of what
40:01
Speaker 3: has been happening throughout the UK just over the past week,
40:05
Speaker 3: says a texture. Text says, Uh Wall began his political
40:14
Speaker 3: career as a moderate, but as a governor, he's moved
40:16
Speaker 3: to the left, left will taut growing left to liberals
40:19
Speaker 3: and moderate and moderate past to moderate seven hours ago
40:24
Speaker 3: before the announcement of Jewish Insider, He's Lutheran pervot smart okay,
40:32
Speaker 3: Texture says, Uh Shapiro is a charter school advocate and
40:38
Speaker 3: has baggage from sexual assault situations. Uh, he would have
40:41
Speaker 3: been a terrible choice. Walls is a good choice, old
40:44
Speaker 3: white guy to appeal to old white people, doesn't vacate
40:48
Speaker 3: a Senate seat, and Minnesota's doing quite well. Trump and
40:51
Speaker 3: his guyliner wearing woman hater vice president are now looking
40:55
Speaker 3: pretty weird, says a Texture. The thing about Shapiro is,
40:59
Speaker 3: and I was actually talking about this off air with
41:01
Speaker 3: somebody a little bit earlier. The thing about about Shapiro is,
41:05
Speaker 3: while Shapiro seemed to be the front runner in a
41:08
Speaker 3: lot of people's opinion, I think that from Kamala and
41:13
Speaker 3: I'm not trying to tell her how to run her campaign,
41:15
Speaker 3: but I think from Kamala Harris's standpoint, Shapiro could have
41:19
Speaker 3: been very problematic to the far far left, far left
41:23
Speaker 3: of the Democrat Party because these are and I don't
41:26
Speaker 3: even know if they're even registered Democrats, but I'm saying,
41:29
Speaker 3: if Kamala Harris is going to appeal to the far
41:32
Speaker 3: I'm not talking about Mike Pushkin. I'm talking about far
41:35
Speaker 3: far left of the party or people that would be
41:38
Speaker 3: likely to vote for Kamala Harris, Shapiro probably not a
41:42
Speaker 3: good choice because we know about the hatred that is
41:47
Speaker 3: going on in this country now, and you see the
41:49
Speaker 3: protest on the pro Palestinian protests that are on college campuses,
41:54
Speaker 3: many of them. So from that point, if she's trying
41:57
Speaker 3: to appeal to the far far left. Shapiro probably not
41:59
Speaker 3: the best choice, just just my uneducated opinion. Tech says,
42:05
Speaker 3: no pool, no parking lot. What else is the Charleston
42:08
Speaker 3: sports complace going to lead out of its original plan? Well,
42:11
Speaker 3: it's it's a fluid plan. Things things, things change. Text says,
42:16
Speaker 3: Ohio recreational cannabis sales start today. How much revenue is
42:19
Speaker 3: West Virginia going to miss out on? I do believe
42:22
Speaker 3: that you will see eventually. I don't know if it'll
42:25
Speaker 3: be during my lifetime, but you are going to see
42:28

Speaker 3: the way, But we're gonna spend some time talking to
46:16
Speaker 3: Carrie tomorrow and have her as the first guest on.
46:19
Speaker 3: Somebody should probably tell her that coup that she's the
46:21
Speaker 3: first guest on the show tomorrow. So yeah, tomorrow's Carrie's
46:25
Speaker 3: last day with us. Hate to see her go. She's
46:26
Speaker 3: a fantastic talent and a even better person. Had a
46:29
Speaker 3: fellow cat person too, so she and I talk cats
46:32
Speaker 3: a lot. But anyway, Carrie will be leaving us. We're
46:34
Speaker 3: going to talk to her on the show tomorrow for
46:36
Speaker 3: one final time. Big Ley Pickley Wigglely hotline three zero

Speaker 3: eight text says, why do westfordin to voters carer who
46:49
Speaker 3: the Democrats nominate. It's not like they're going to vote
46:51
Speaker 3: for the Democrat. Republicans don't have policies, they only have insults,
46:55
Speaker 3: says a texture. TEXTA says, yeah, Shapiro was seen as
46:59
Speaker 3: two Israel and going with Kelly would have lost the
47:02
Speaker 3: Dems the Arizona Senate seat, says a text. Texter says
47:08
Speaker 3: the texture about the Somali flag is so uninformed it's
47:11
Speaker 3: almost deliberately stupid. The Minnesota flag wasn't Somali inspired. Also
47:16
Speaker 3: nice use of scare tactics. Be afraid of brown people,
47:20
Speaker 3: says a Texter. Charleston City Council and Pott. If you've
47:25
Speaker 3: heard Charleston Mayor Amy Schuler, good one. If you heard
47:26
Speaker 3: her on the show yesterday, she short of touched on this.
47:29
Speaker 3: Prior to last night's council meeting, changes to the city's
47:33
Speaker 3: simple possession law will not be on the ballot the
47:37
Speaker 3: ballot that is, not the valot the ballot for voters
47:39
Speaker 3: in November, as some had hopes.
47:42
Speaker 13: Now.
47:42
Speaker 3: The mayor, speaking on the show yesterday, said that the
47:46
Speaker 3: citizens group that had collected signatures simply didn't have enough.
47:51
Speaker 3: Quote from the mayor yesterday, state code requires there be
47:55
Speaker 3: ten percent of all qualified voters in quote qualified, there
47:59
Speaker 3: being the keyword. Apparently, the group pushing for the change
48:02
Speaker 3: only had about only about ten percent of those who
48:06
Speaker 3: voted not necessarily qualified, So there were around eighteen hundred
48:10
Speaker 3: signatures when actually the number is thirty three hundred that
48:13
Speaker 3: were needed. That's according to the mayor. The mayor did
48:16
Speaker 3: say that some of the issues that the group is
48:19
Speaker 3: pushing for are still under discussion, and there still could
48:24
Speaker 3: possibly be some sort of a city ordinance now. The
48:28
Speaker 3: mayor said that city police currently do not put people
48:32
Speaker 3: in jail for simple pot possession, but the wording remains
48:37
Speaker 3: in code. The proposed ordinance is now sitting with the
48:45
Speaker 3: Council's Rules and Ordinance Committee. So bottom line is it's
48:49
Speaker 3: not going to be on the ballot. Someone wanted it
48:51
Speaker 3: to be on the ballot for voters of the City
48:53
Speaker 3: of Charleston come November. It is not going to be
48:55
Speaker 3: on the ballot. It's just kind of in that in
48:57
Speaker 3: that wait and see mode right now, and this is
48:59
Speaker 3: something that is not seen and I don't have it
49:02
Speaker 3: opinion on it one way or the other, to be
49:03
Speaker 3: honest with you, but it's not something that is seen
49:06
Speaker 3: as being pro pot necessarily. It's just trying to bring
49:10
Speaker 3: the city up and trying to get everybody on the
49:13
Speaker 3: same page because Charleston Police Department, and I'm not a
49:16
Speaker 3: spokesman for the police department, by the way, but based
49:18
Speaker 3: on my conversations with them and with other city officials,
49:21
Speaker 3: they don't want to spend their time locking people up
49:23
Speaker 3: for first offense, simple possession. You know, it's it's an expense,
49:27
Speaker 3: so on and so forth. So that's all they're trying
49:29
Speaker 3: to do here. And so I think there's been some
49:32
Speaker 3: misrepresentation people that said, well, this is uh, this is all,
49:35
Speaker 3: this is all pro pot you want to have you know,
49:38
Speaker 3: people now that that's not what it is as at all.
49:42
Speaker 3: I understand. I just got some insider information here that
49:45
Speaker 3: the committee is going to meet next Thursday on this
49:47
Speaker 3: at five o'clock. That's what I understand. Uh So, now
49:51
Speaker 3: by if the text is still listening, so is that
49:54
Speaker 3: this Thursday or next Thursday? You said next Thursday, But
49:56
Speaker 3: I want to make sure we're talking getting the right date?
49:57
Speaker 3: Is it the eighth or is it you know the
49:59
Speaker 3: we so to text me back and let me know
50:03
Speaker 3: that texts says. Note on Minnesota state website Cass Gilbert
50:14
Speaker 3: is involved and is a representative on the new Minnesota
50:18
Speaker 3: twenty twenty four flag. Cass Gilbert of the state Capitol.
50:21
Speaker 3: Cass Gilbert. Okay, okay, follow up text It is next Thursday,
50:27
Speaker 3: not this Thursday, will be the following Thursday. A Texter
50:30
Speaker 3: texture said Shapiro is seen as too pro Israel and
50:35
Speaker 3: going with Kelly. Well, okay, that one just got Okay,
50:39
Speaker 3: is that the same text? Well, I'll read it anyway.
50:41
Speaker 3: Shapiro is seen as too pro Israel and going with
50:44
Speaker 3: Kelly would have lost to Dimsey Arizona Sendate seat, but
50:46
Speaker 3: sheer might eventually get McConnell's Senate seat, says a texture. Okay,
50:55
Speaker 3: all right, I got a picture here, says let's take
50:57
Speaker 3: a look at these flags, shall we hear?
50:59
Speaker 8: You go?
50:59
Speaker 3: Tell me again? And it's not Somali inspired? Well, I
51:01
Speaker 3: can't tell it. Can't show it to the camera, so
51:04
Speaker 3: we don't have the camera. We are going to have
51:05
Speaker 3: cameras though, but we don't have cameras yet.
51:09
Speaker 4: So there you go.
51:11
Speaker 3: I'll close with this. Going to Putnam County looks like
51:14
Speaker 3: a new middle school maybe getting built. Last night, the
51:17
Speaker 3: Putnam County Board of Education approved a bond to appear
51:20
Speaker 3: on the November election ballot for voters in Putnam to
51:22
Speaker 3: take a look at state school building. Authority has already
51:25
Speaker 3: signed off on the financial plan for the bond. Story
51:27
Speaker 3: post at wv metro news dot com. The News Environment
51:30
Speaker 3: talked to board president Rob Cunningham and said that some
51:33
Speaker 3: parts are already in motion. It's about a seventy five
51:36
Speaker 3: million dollar project and the primary project here would be
51:39
Speaker 3: a new middle school for Hurricane. There will also be
51:41
Speaker 3: upgrades to other school facilities. Cunningham says the voters will
51:45
Speaker 3: be asked to approve the bond in November. Several schools
51:48
Speaker 3: were involved in this, several facilities all over Putnam County
51:51
Speaker 3: and again we have a full story posted about it
51:53
Speaker 3: at wv Metronews dot com. And I can say this
51:55
Speaker 3: as a resident of Putnam County where there is about
51:57
Speaker 3: to be a whole lot more people moving in there,
52:00
Speaker 3: especially when this and I really haven't had a chance
52:01
Speaker 3: to speak about this, but I do want to at
52:03
Speaker 3: some point. This new housing development, this is being built
52:07
Speaker 3: in Putnam County, which is behind where Wendy's is located.
52:10
Speaker 3: It's going to be the largest housing development anywhere around.
52:13
Speaker 3: And so if you're a resident of Putnam County like
52:17
Speaker 3: I am, and you complain about traffic, which I rarely do,
52:19
Speaker 3: then get ready because it's gonna double or triple in
52:23
Speaker 3: Putnham County here real soon. But as I always say,
52:26
Speaker 3: that's not a bad thing. There are areas of West
52:28
Speaker 3: Virginia that would kill to have a traffic problem and
52:30
Speaker 3: we got it, and we're gonna get it even more
52:32
Speaker 3: in Putnam County and I'd say bring it on, all right,
52:35
Speaker 3: gotta go. Thank you so much all my guests on
52:36
Speaker 3: the show today, and for my producer, Dale Cooper, the Boss,
52:40
Speaker 3: Thank you so much, Hopy Coach. We'll coming up a
52:41
Speaker 3: talk line to ten oh six. Download the all new
52:44
Speaker 3: Metro News TV app and the WVRC Media app as well.
52:47
Speaker 3: See you tomorrow. Till then, have fun and love somebody
