- 3:13today in the rain. Hm. And remember that last month it was that
- 3:15torrential downpour on the way up here too, So I don't know if that's
- 3:19a sign or what's happening there. Well, we got forest fire situations in
- 3:22West Virginia, so maybe we should just book you on the show more often
- 3:24to help out with some of these things. Send me where the fires are.

- 3:39Now now now you have an entourage, and so we're going to introduce you
- 3:44somebody a little bit later, all right, Rich, And as always,
- 3:46Rich is open to take your calls or text if you'd like to textas question
- 3:50in about real estate. You can do that again. You can call us
- 3:53the big Ley Pigly Wiggly hotline is three zero four three four five fifty fifty
- 3:57if the text line from truth is three zero four nine three five five zero
- 4:00zero. Ate Rich, I'm not the realty expert you are, but I
- 4:02have heard and read something about from the National Association of Realtors has been making
- 4:09the news lately. And what I'm hearing what I've read again, I just
- 4:13know bits and pieces of it could change the way that real estate listings are
- 4:16done across America. Explain what this whole thing is about. Well, there
- 4:21was a settlement, and I won't try and go into too many details.
- 4:24I'll direct you and the listening audience just to where they can go to look
- 4:28up that information for themselves. They can read the settlement. It was a
- 4:31settlement with the National Associated Association of Realtors that will probably change the way we
- 4:36do business. But you know, for me today, I just want everyone
- 4:40to know that real estate is still going to go on. There's still going
- 4:43to be people buying and selling. Professional realtors are going to be there to
- 4:46help you. There will be some changes on how we advertise any concessions that
- 4:51a seller might do for to help a buyer's side commission and explain what concessions
- 4:56are. So if they you know traditionally, well, first thing I tell
- 5:00everyone I get into the real estate, whether the buying are selling. I
- 5:03always say that everything in real estate is negotiable, and that includes the commission.
- 5:08So there is a not a standard set commission that you would sell some
- 5:13you know, you come to a realtor and say, hey, how much
- 5:15do you charge? Would you charge to sell my house? Traditionally, however
- 5:18much that is, whether that's four or five, six, seven percent,
- 5:21whatever that is, that gets split between the buyer's agent and the seller's agent,
- 5:27and then they of course have agreements with their brokers, so it gets
- 5:30typically split split four ways sell. That's a seller's concession on paying for the
- 5:36real estate commission on both sides of the transaction for the buyer and the seller.
- 5:41Okay, so that's going to change where the sellers they've always had options
- 5:46to negotiate that commission, but it is going to be it's also advertised.
- 5:54The other big part of that the change that will happen, it's advertised within
- 5:57our multiple listing service, and that will no longer be true in July,
- 6:01so the advertising parts. Okay, So, so where did all this come
- 6:05from? I mean again, and people can look it up for themselves,
- 6:08and I don't want to get you into a trouble, but but what does
- 6:10this stem from? So? And I'm not going to go into the details
- 6:13of the of the lawsuit. And it was a class action thing that happened
- 6:16in Missouri, had nothing to do with West Virginia. But we're all part
- 6:19of the National Association of Realtors, where most of us are. So it
- 6:24is still has not been approved by the courts. So what I'll say is
- 6:27that if you're interested in the findings and all of the details, you can
- 6:31go to a to a link just facts dot realtor. And if you do
- 6:35that, it used to be you would need to be a realtor to be
- 6:38able to get to that. But all of the details on the settlement are
- 6:41there. You can find out. There's frequently asked questions there that are answered,
- 6:45a lot of the questions for us. So changes are happening, but
- 6:48you know, I think that the professional realtors are still here to help and
- 6:53we know that it's just part of our lives. Change is part of it,
- 6:56and we will change with that and and be able to help buyers and
- 7:00sellers. Facts Dot Realtor, Okay Rich Rich the realtor climbs with Us.

- 7:08can get an eighteen inch pepperoni pizza and a pizza bowl only twenty two ninety
- 7:11nine. Find your nearest Hussin's at Husts Pizza, Dot Confidence Delivery, pickup
- 7:15or dined in. So talk about the real estate market here in the Canal
- 7:18Valley. We have you on once a month to talk about it. How's
- 7:20it going, Yeah, it's going good. It's the spring selling season,
- 7:24so people are moving and trying to get into their you know, forever homes
- 7:28or forever businesses or whatever they're doing. It's just kind of a hot time
- 7:31of the year right now, which is exciting. We still lack inventory,
- 7:35and you know that'll know that there's going to be a significant change in that
- 7:40in the next couple of years, is my opinion. So you know,
- 7:43we still battle multiple offers in that kind of scenario. I would just encourage
- 7:46you to make sure your realtor is on top of it for you and help
- 7:50move you as quickly as long as possible with that and deal with the realtor
- 7:54when it comes to this stuff. Don't try to do it yourself. I
- 7:56mean, whether it's Rich or somebody else, but really there is nobody else
- 8:00who is there. I do want to say. One of the things that
- 8:03realtors, you know, experienced and established realtors have is a huge network of
- 8:07referrals. So and that goes on forever. So even after you buy your
- 8:11home, that realtor can still be a source for you. And that goes
- 8:16from people who need to change your locks, you need electricians or whatever you
- 8:20need. So you know, one of the things that we provide as a
- 8:24referral is even somebody who can help you with your furnace, changing your filters
- 8:28for your furnace. And and that's why you're the ultimate in the master of
- 8:33segue, because that's why we have this guy here. I practice that.
- 8:35Yeah, you're you're a regular pro. Now you've been doing it's about a
- 8:39year or so. Now Rich you're But again, referrals is a part of
- 8:41that. And that's why I have John Lovejoy here from the company Fresh Air
- 8:46Now you've heard me talk about fresh Air on the show because they're a sponsor
- 8:48to the show. We've never had John on to talk about it specifically.
- 8:52John, good morning, Welcome to the show. Good morning, how are
- 8:54you. I'm doing fine, Thank you for being there. So so talk
- 8:58about fresh Air, talk about what services that you provide. Fresh Air is
- 9:03actually an air filter changing service. A lot of your HVAC companies that offer
- 9:07these preventative maintenance programs don't actually cover the air filter changing. If they do,
- 9:16it's typically an additional charge, or you actually have to purchase the filters
- 9:22yourself. With Fresh Air, we come out and we build a custom filter
- 9:28for your unit, given it a tighter fit which allows it to work more
- 9:31efficiently, and then in return, it's a better quality filter than once you
- 9:37can just go to the local box stores and purchase. That's what I was
- 9:39going to ask you. I mean, why can't I just go to my
- 9:41local store and pick one of these ups Again, you're looking at better quality.
- 9:46The typical air filter that you're going to get at the box stores basically
- 9:52just going to cover dust and pollen, you know, or we've got anything
- 9:56from our basic covers dust, pollen, dust, mites, debris, pet
- 10:01dander. That's a big factor when it comes to their air filters in your
- 10:05air quality inside your home. If you have a pet, you know that
- 10:09dander does tend to clog up the unit. Yeah, and so it's you
- 10:18know, you want to make sure that that's filtered out before it gets in.
- 10:20And you also offer this for commercial use as well, for restaurants,
- 10:24churches, you know, whatever. Yes, we do, we actually do.
- 10:28We actually offer a medical grade filter for those facilities where you're going to
- 10:33have larger groups of people gathering. You know, our goal is one to
- 10:41protect the health of your age back unit, but also to protect the health
- 10:43of everyone on the inside of the building as well. People don't realize the
- 10:48indoor air quality or is actually five times worse than our outside air quality.
- 10:56And you know here in the valley, outside air qualities not that great to
- 11:00begin with. So you can imagine, you know, in your homes or
- 11:03in your business at being five times worse than that. Can it? I
- 11:07know you don't want to make any kind of promises or anything, but John,
- 11:11can it affect your the cost of your your heating and cooling if you
- 11:15don't have the proper fitting because we're all trying to save money wherever we can.
- 11:18Now, I mean, is there any I mean, is there a
- 11:20direct correlation between having the right filter and how much you write a check for
- 11:26or I'm a old school I say write a check how much money you take
- 11:30out of your your account every month to pay the bills? Absolutely? Absolutely,
- 11:33Like I said, our goal is to make sure that we provide a
- 11:37healthy option for that unit that allows it to work and it's mix efficiency and
- 11:43so as a result, you're if it's working and it's mix efficiency, there's
- 11:46less energy consumed. Less energy consumed results in lower energy bills. Right and
- 11:52again, John is with a company called fresh Air and they do offer twenty
- 11:56four hour emergency service and we'll give you the contact information on them and riches.
- 12:03As I know somebody who's in the real estate business, you're always looking
- 12:05for things like this, anything to help out to potential buyers or sellers.
- 12:07Absolutely, for sure we are. And I just wanted to make sure that
- 12:11I'm clear on the on John services as well. You guys are actually doing
- 12:15the work of the changing of the filter for the client as well. Correct,
- 12:18Yes, we actually, like said, we come out, I don't
- 12:22want to make my wife crawl up under the house anymore, and she does
- 12:24not have to crawl in that cross space or walk across the rafters in the
- 12:28attic. She'd appreciate that. I'm always looking out for her because I hate,
- 12:31forre it have to go into there with spiders and whatnot, especially right
- 12:35after she mows the grass. Well, yeah, right right, and washes
- 12:37the car and waxes it. Yeah, yeah, of course, yeah,
- 12:39that you know, that's the nice thing is we come out, like I
- 12:43said that first time, we're going to build that custom frame, and then
- 12:46we come out on a scheduled basis and actually change that for you, so
- 12:50that way you've always got that, okay, as we like to say,
- 12:54fresh air, fresh air, and clients are looking for that. I mean
- 12:58they really, truly are they looking for easy maintenance things where they're buying a
- 13:01home. They don't know what they're getting going to get into, so things
- 13:03that will just make their you know, an east of use for them for
- 13:07that kind of stuff that they're looking for that all right, and again the
- 13:11website, well, let me give you the phone number first. It's three

- 17:06the show now, Congressman candidate for US Senate Alex Mooney, Good morning,
- 17:08sir, Hey, good morning. Great to be with you. Thank you
- 17:11for being here. Uh. First, before we get to your race for
- 17:15the Senate, I want to talk about your current job as a congressman.
- 17:18What's been going on in Washington here with you as of lighton. Well,
- 17:23it's a lot of spending, the taxpayer dollars. Things have changed, you
- 17:27know, it's erally what I've seen in my ten years in Congress. Of
- 17:30course, I've represented Kennall County for eight of those ten years, so it's
- 17:33good to be on the show remind people of my representation. But I've seen
- 17:37it all. I've gone from Republican control when I was first elected in twenty
- 17:40fourteen, to Democrat control back to Republican control in the US House of Representatives.
- 17:45But sometimes you wouldn't know it because we still spend, it seems with
- 17:48the Democrats, and spend lots of money, and the debt keeps going up.
- 17:52So we can get into particulars of it, but overall, what I've
- 17:56seen in my ten years is just a lot of uncontrolled spending and frankly,
- 17:59both already are responsible for that. A bill we passed just last week won
- 18:03over trillion dollars, but it doesn't build the wall, doesn't rain in the
- 18:07out of control you know, Department of Justice, and I mean it's disappointing.
- 18:11I think the taxpayers deserve better. Oh, I'm going to keep voting
- 18:15conservative and I want to I want to give to that specifically. And you've
- 18:18been one that has talked about it. I think we all have concerns,
- 18:22congressmen about the about the national debt. And I will say you have been
- 18:25very consistent in speaking out against it. I learned in my first year that
- 18:32nothing was changing, that both parties were addicted to the spending. And they
- 18:37say, now's not the time. That's the thing, Now's not the time.
- 18:38I even heard it a few weeks ago from saying, well, now's
- 18:41not the time to take on this spending. You know, we have to.
- 18:45You know, there's a there's a there's a war in Israel, and
- 18:45there's a war in Ukraine, and there's you know, the economy struggling,
- 18:49and now's not the time that you know what. Now never seems to be
- 18:53the time, because it's going to be tough, and you know, I
- 18:56know when I vote against these trillion dollars spending bills that are bankrupting our kind,
- 19:00I know that opens me up to a political attack. There are things
- 19:03in those bills that I support, of course, and when you vote against
- 19:06one spending bill for the rest of your life, you'll be you know,
- 19:08they'll pick something out of there run of a TV I'd saying you oppose it.
- 19:11But I'm counting on the voters to be smart enough to realize that,
- 19:14as they have in the past, because they have reelected me to this position
- 19:18at least. And so you know, at the end of the day,
- 19:21when I have to look myself in the mirror and see this debt that eventually
- 19:25is going to bankrupt our country, I mean we are we are going so
- 19:27fast to the point where we literally wouldn't be able to pay the interest on
- 19:30the debt anymore. Then you couldn't pay for anything, you know, That's
- 19:33the real concern. And so yes, I have been consistent against it,
- 19:38and this last bill last week actually the majority of my party for the first
- 19:41time in recent memory, most House Republicans did vote against it. It was
- 19:45about one hundred and twelve two hundred and twelve voted against it, but almost
- 19:49every Democrat voted for it. So here you have a Republican majority. Mike
- 19:52Johnson a Republican Speaker of the House, but most almost all the Democrats are
- 19:56supporting these spending bills. That should be a the flag. If one of
- 20:00your listeners is a Republican and they want conservative government, well, if all
- 20:03the Democrats are voting yes, clearly, if Nancy you know, it's like
- 20:06Nancy Pelosi's voting for it, clearly, it can't be that good of a
- 20:08bill. So it's a it's a real struggle. But are tax dollars.
- 20:14People work hard to pay these tax dollars, and they deserve a government who
- 20:18will govern conservatively. Talking again the Congressman Alex Mooney, I want to talk
- 20:22about your candidacy for US Senate House. The campaign been going so far,
- 20:27it's been going well. I mean, I have my hands hold the guy
- 20:30I'm running against as super high name I d Jim Justice's governor and everybody knows
- 20:34who he is. And I have to wrote. You know, I did
- 20:37write like I said, I did represent Kennall County for eight years and I
- 20:41now for just over a year. Represent the northern half of the state,
- 20:45but the southern half of the state I've never or the southern third really I've
- 20:48never represented. They don't know as much about me, and fat of have
- 20:51to remind people about my conservative voting record. I mean, it's clear like
- 20:55when I was elected in twenty fourteen, and I was re elected in twenty
- 20:57twenty sixteen as a republic Jim Justice was running as a Democrat and he did
- 21:03win as a Democrat, and in my view, he still votes like a
- 21:04Democrat even though he switched his party affiliation. So and I'm making the case
- 21:10that I have a conservative voting record. He's spending those we just talked about.
- 21:14I voted against all of them. The Joe Biden American Rescue Act was
- 21:18one point nine trillion. Of course I voted against that. Mister Justice actually
- 21:22endorsed it and said, me need the money. Who cares what you know?
- 21:23When he's wasted, he supports it. He would literally do more liberal
- 21:27on spending than any other senator. And frankly, mister Justice ran and out
- 21:32attacking me in my last campaign because I poked to Joe bidf trillion. Not
- 21:40so there's a huge difference between the candidates. So if you know somebody wants
- 21:44someone who's proven to vote conservative and stand up against spending, I'm your only
- 21:48choice here, mister Justice. Of course, even last year, as a
- 21:51supposedly Republican, he didn't he campaign against getting herd, the inventory tax in
- 21:56West Virginia and the car tax. So uh, you know, I'm pointing
- 22:00this out everywhere I go because it's important for people to know. But I'm
- 22:03the old conservative choice for the US Senate. Of course, Joe Manchon has
- 22:07chosen to retire, and the deadline the file was in of January, so
- 22:11mister Mansion is gone. He's not running. He legally cannot run. There's
- 22:15no reason for West Virginians to accept someone who's basically a liberal Republican. He
- 22:19would vote the same as Joe Mansion when you have a conservative choice me Alex
- 22:23Mooney for US want, what do you make of the governor's recent financialow was
- 22:27Congressman Well, I mean, I just think he campaigned as a business guy
- 22:33who can turn the state around and all that, But he's just suspender.
- 22:37Family spends and spends and spends, it doesn't pay bills, and you know
- 22:41he doesn't like I've seen it. I mean, he yead attacking me because
- 22:47I wouldn't vote for a trillion dollar spending bill. He obviously needs to pay
- 22:51taxes. I mean, I think it's beyond hypocritical that they would collect taxes
- 22:55at the Greenbrier and then not turn them in, Whereas he's the guy's supposed
- 22:59to be in charge of, you know, spending taxes in the state.
- 23:02You know. But my problem with him is is, you know he raised
- 23:04the gas tax. Remember that, you know he raised a gas tax.
- 23:07Ten sense. I've never voted for a tax increase in my entire political life.
- 23:12Ever, I've voted against every tax increase anty increases because I'm a conservative
- 23:17and that's what conservat is supposed to do. I think the West Virginians are
- 23:19taxed ENUF already. Government leads to live within its means. So, yeah,
- 23:25I have there's a lot of concerns with mister Justice. Clearly he needs
- 23:27to go home, take care of business, Congressman before we let you go.
- 23:30Several recent polls have come out of the show the governor Justice with the
- 23:34commanding lead, and the race we still have some some time. How do
- 23:37you close that gap? Yeah, I'm going everywhere. Man, I'm not
- 23:41seeing mister Justice or his teams at any of the Republican gatherings I've been to.
- 23:48Obviously, you know I have the chance to communicate through paid media as
- 23:52well my conservative record. But i's everywhere I go, like, I don't
- 23:56understand. I've seen the polls you're referencing as well. I'm not hearing it
- 24:00when when I go around, everyone I meet says they're looking for an alternative
- 24:03to Jim Justice, and you know, whether they knew me or not before
- 24:07they say they're voting for me. I think a lot of voters are going
- 24:11to pay very close attention in the coming weeks to the candidates, and it's
- 24:14going to be very clear because look, I'm not making this up. I
- 24:17have a voting record. It's been there for ten years. Everyone knows I'm
- 24:21a solid conservative. I'm a fighting conservative because my voting record proves it.
- 24:25I've been endorsed by Ted Cruz and Ran Paul. Those senators have endorsed me.
- 24:29Mich McConnell personally recruited my opponent to run. He will go along with
- 24:32all that spending. I'll fight it. So I still think, you know
- 24:34you have a guy Jim Justice, who's literally known by everybody, and he's
- 24:38barely breaking fifty percent in the polls. I think that's a problem for him,
- 24:41to be honest with you, I think a lot of people don't want
- 24:45him. So I have to make it really clear that I'm the only conservative
- 24:48choice, because I am the only conservative choice, and that's what West Virginians
- 24:52deserve. Congressman Alex Mooney, I appreciate you taking time out of your schedule
- 24:56to be here. We'll talk again soon. Thanks a lot, you bet,

- 30:11Charleston Dirty Bird season will be up, honest. Jill Garren is here from
- 30:14the Dirty Birds. Jill, good morning, welcome to the show. Good
- 30:15morning, thanks for having me. I wanna get a little background on Jill.
- 30:18Who is Jill? How did you get here? Why are you here?
- 30:21Who are you? Absolutely so I moved to West Virginia officially just about
- 30:26a month ago. I am My official title is I am the manager of
- 30:30Community Engagement, media Relations, and I'm also the play by play broadcaster for
- 30:33the team. So basically anything media, community marketing, that's me. How
- 30:37do you fit all that in a lot of sleepless nights? Oh? So
- 30:42do you sleep at all? I try to. I mean, the staff
- 30:45is awesome and with the dirty words and so I have a lot of support
- 30:48and you know, hopefully interns will be coming in soon. So you got
- 30:52to have the interns in this business. So where are you from? Originally
- 30:55originally from Hermosa Beach, California. I moved here from Arizona. That's where
- 30:59I was this last baseball off season, and then the previous five years I
- 31:03was with a minor league team in Visalia, California. Okay, all right,
- 31:06so welcome to the East Coast. Thank you. Had you been to
- 31:07this part of the world before you took the job. I went to school
- 31:11in Boston, so I've done the East coast New England, just have not
- 31:14been to really the mid Atlantic coast. Ah, I got it, I
- 31:15got it. So how's your time been in Charleston? So far. I
- 31:19know you're making the round trying to meet as many people as possible in front
- 31:22of the season. How's it been so far? It's been good. I
- 31:25mean everyone here is so so nice. I think that's the big difference between
- 31:29this area and Arizona and California. But I've really enjoyed going hiking so far.
- 31:33I haven't done any big heights. I want to go to the Gorge,
- 31:34obviously, but just some smaller local nature hikes. To talk about the
- 31:40season, what was it about this job with the Dirty Birds that attracted you
- 31:45to come here. I've known Andy Shaeffer a few years now and we have
- 31:48kept in touch. It was time for me to leave my old job in
- 31:52baseball. I was just feeling a little too complacent, and I really liked
- 31:55the idea of a new team. I really liked the idea of an independent
- 31:56team where we are able to do what we want with what we have.
- 32:01The players are are legitimate co workers. They have the same paycheck signed by
- 32:06the same person, so there are co workers. We can have them out
- 32:08in the community a little bit more. They can go out and do more
- 32:10and be a part of this city. And as we've talked about, with
- 32:15Andy and with others with the Dirty Birds in the past. These are as
- 32:17you said, these are players that chose to be here. They're not necessarily
- 32:22shipped here from from a team in Montana or something there there here because they
- 32:27want to be here exactly. And the Dirty Birds are very very important to
- 32:30the community. And I love I mean, I follow you guys on social
- 32:32media. I try to share as much as possible. You were out like
- 32:35in the classrooms doing some reading yesterday. You had Dusty the mascot out there
- 32:38with you. Correct, that was me yesterday. West Tays Elementary That are
- 32:42one of the five schools that we're partnering with on our new books with the
- 32:45Birds Reading program. For more information, you can go to our Kids section
- 32:47of the website for that. And again we're talking to Joe Garren, whose
- 32:51official title is the Manager of Media Relations and Community Engagement and broadcaster. I
- 32:57want to talk about your broadcasting absolutely so. Was this something you always wanted
- 33:00to do? Was be a play by play broadcaster? Yep. At thirteen
- 33:02years old, I spoke in my eighth grade graduation and I told everyone I
- 33:06was going to be the voice of the Boston Red Sox. Okay, well,
- 33:08I mean, you still got time. It's it got some time.
- 33:09I did intern for the Red Sox my senior year of college, and I
- 33:14did do a few innings for the Arizona Diamondbacks radio, so I have some
- 33:17some big league experience. And you know, there was a time and I'm
- 33:21going to go ahead and state the obvious here and not to make myself sound
- 33:24older than I already am, but there was a time that when you thought
- 33:27about, well, a female broadcaster, I mean, that's just something that
- 33:30you wouldn't have, especially in a male sport. It's no big deal now,
- 33:32which it shouldn't be in my opinion, if you can call the game,
- 33:36call the game no matter what your gender. But you know, there's
- 33:40a lot of trailblazers out there doing great things right now. Absolutely, the
- 33:43big two names in Major League Baseball is Jenny Kavnar. She has just announced
- 33:46as the first primary female play by play for the Oakland Athletics. Melanie Newman
- 33:51is with the Baltimore Orioles. There's a ton of other women in minor league
- 33:53baseball, but I'm very lucky to be a part of that that crew of
- 33:57Trailblazers. Now, are you a Red Sox fan. I am a Red
- 34:00Sox fan. I'll be honest. I've been following the Diamondbacks a lot more
- 34:01because the team I was with was affiliated with them for five years, so
- 34:05I was paying very close attention to that team more than the Red Sox.
- 34:08Well, and their primary owner Ken Kendrick, who's the West Virginia native.
- 34:13Oh really, I don't think I knew that. Yeah, I think that
- 34:15he's very involved. He's a WVU alum and he's very involved with the wv
- 34:19program. Matter of fact, he was just on Hoby Show a couple of
- 34:21weeks ago. But yeah, so you've learned something from me. Thank you.
- 34:24Let's talk about opening Day. When it's opening day for the Dirty Birds
- 34:28April twenty fifth, six thirty five. Gates open at five thirty, and
- 34:30I'll have you on. Of course, it's kind of an opening day tradition.
- 34:34I normally have whoever sits in your role, but I also will have
- 34:37a player too and the manager and talk about some of the things you're looking
- 34:40forward to this season. I mean, there's just so many fun promotions.
- 34:44We're really trying to cater to the kids this year, so nothing super official.
- 34:49We're hoping to put pens of paper very soon. But we're going to
- 34:52have hopefully a kids area that will have you know, inflatables, potentially other
- 34:57kind of carnival sue games. If you went to our Light the Night,
- 34:59it's going to be very similar to that, where there's going to be a
- 35:00lot of activities for kids. We have some clinics coming up this year.
- 35:06Every Saturday we'll have Mega Blast fireworks, and every Friday there's going to be
- 35:09a giveaway awesome all right, now, I've just started talking about this on
- 35:13the show a little bit yesterday. You're doing there's a home run derby,
- 35:15yeah, coming up over Ballpark that's going to be on Saturday, April the
- 35:19twenty. If gates are going to open at five thirty, derby starts at
- 35:22six thirty. Where I guess from what I'm reading and correct me if I'm
- 35:24wrong. Members of the Dirty Birds team are going to be matched with people
- 35:29out in the community. Is that correct? Correct? So we don't have
- 35:30any community or we haven't announced at least any of the community members yet.
- 35:35That'll be paired up with the players that will be coming at a later date.
- 35:37But we're really excited about it. This is kind of a way for
- 35:39the fans to get ready. Remember it's baseball season, it's April. Time
- 35:44to go, come enjoy the new stadium, see what's new with that new
- 35:47kids area, the different concessions that we have going on, and get to
- 35:51know some of our players, because we're going to be having our players walking
- 35:53around the concourse and getting to know our fans. And that's one of the
- 35:57great things again about small town based And I know Charleston in the big picture
- 36:00of things is not a small town, but in the big picture of things,
- 36:02it is a small town. And to be able to have, as
- 36:06I said, that engagement with the people that are in the community, and
- 36:09you see them at different events. You don't only see them at the ballpark.
- 36:14You see them over at the Clay Center or Capital Market or whatever you
- 36:16see. You get to see the players on the regular basis. This home
- 36:20run derby, though, I think, is going to be a big hit.
- 36:22I mean when I first read about it last week in your social media,
- 36:24people were just all over So I can't wait. I can't wait.
- 36:28Of course, there's still a lot of details to be ironed out, but
- 36:29it's gonna be a great night. I'm really excited about it. It's normal
- 36:32seating, just how you think of a normal Dirty Birds game. You can
- 36:35get your normal physical seats. But we do have a home run alley,
- 36:37so that's going to be in the outfield right behind the outfield wall, a
- 36:42home run power alley where you can get tickets for that. You have a
- 36:45chance to take home a souvenir from the home run. And some of these
- 36:49home run balls might be numbered because this home run Derby is now presented by
- 36:52gomart and they're going to give away prizes for some special kids who catch certain
- 36:58numbered balls that are home runs. We'll have more details on that because that's
- 37:01going to be in April the twentieth, but I want to have you you
- 37:05on to talk about that, and then of course we're going to have you
- 37:07back on opening Day because we're definitely excited about this upcoming season. What's great
- 37:12to have you here, Jill and get to know you. I think you're
- 37:14going to do great things with the organization you've got. You mentioned Andy and
- 37:16some of the other people that are involved with the organization. You got a
- 37:20fine group of people over there, and I love the fact and the city
- 37:23of Charleston has a lot to do with this as well. That the ballpark
- 37:27is being used in December and being used in January, but that would not
- 37:30be possible without having to buy in from the Dirty Birds. Absolutely, I'm
- 37:36really excited to be here this when I came in January, it's my first
- 37:38time ever in West Virginia, first time in Charleston. I'm really excited to
- 37:42be here. For those of you who want to be a part of the
- 37:44Dirty Birds, I want this team to be a part of the community as
- 37:46much as possible. That's my job here. So reach out to the Dirty
- 37:50Birds if you have any ideas of how we can partner. What's the best
- 37:52way for people to reach you? Jay Gearan g E A. R.
- 37:55I. N At Dirtybirds Baseball dot com. All right, well, Jill,
- 38:00it's been a pleasure to have you on the show. Now, as
- 38:02far as the broadcasting and the games, those are primary. There's an internet
- 38:06based right correct, They're going to be on Flow Sports, Okay, And
- 38:08that's the way it's been in the past, right the last couple of years.
- 38:10Okay, all right, Jill, I appreciate you being here. That
- 38:13home run derby again, it's coming up on Saturday, April twentieth, and
- 38:15you've always got great You know, whoever takes care of your website and your
- 38:20social media do a fantastic job with it because the schedules are on there.
- 38:23The merchandise and the Dirty Birds merchandise. I will say this before we close.
- 38:28The Dirty Birds merchandise is selling unbelievably around the country right now because people
- 38:35love the teams with the odd names or the odd characters or whatever. And
- 38:40it's one of the top sellers of merchandise for people that have no ties to
- 38:44West Virginia whatsoever exactly. It's a lot of fun to see where our merchandise
- 38:50gets shipped off to. So I'm just really excited to be a part of
- 38:52this team. All right, Jill, Now you got to get back over
- 38:54to work. We'll let you go because you got the weeks you're county down
- 38:57to the Okay, in the Major League Baseball opening season is Thursday. Now,
- 39:00I'm a Cincinnati Reds fan, So do you have any predictions on the
- 39:05Reds this season? World Series this year? I will say I actually broadcasted
- 39:08a prospects game for them this last week, and they have some good prospects
- 39:10coming up, so it's a young team. It's a young team. I'm
- 39:14the hope springs eternal when you're a Reds fan. So all right, Jill,
- 39:17I appreciate you being here. Thanks a lot. We'll be talking to

- 44:01I want to bring in Joe Stevens Now. Joe, of course no
- 44:04stranger to the show. He's usually on to tell us about something good going
- 44:07on in the city of Nitro. I've had him on his role with the
- 44:10Western Indon Ski Association, which he's a part of. Today he is going
- 44:15to report on some events in Baltimore, which happens to be his hometown.
- 44:19Now, just after one point thirty this morning came word and the shocking video
- 44:23of a cargo ship striking a bridge there. Joe, good morning, what's
- 44:28the latest on this situation. I mean, this is everybody's seen the video
- 44:31by now in your social media. It's a horrific situation there in Baltimore.
- 44:37It really is. In Just to paint a picture a little bit, this
- 44:42bridge was built in nineteen seventy seven because of the two tunnels that are used
- 44:47across the harbor. It was deemed dangerous for any type of hazardous materials to
- 44:57go through the two tunnels that crossed the harbor in Baltimore. So this bridge
- 45:05was constructed so that anybody carrying hazardous materials, any truck carrying hazardous materials,
- 45:12or any vehicle carrying hazardous materials could go and proceed across the river across the
- 45:17Francis Scott Key Bridge. It opened in nineteen seventy seven. It took five
- 45:22years to build. It's a mile and a half long. It's one of
- 45:25the longest steel girder bridges in the country. And waking up this morning,
- 45:31Dave at around four point thirty this morning and hearing on CBS News or this
- 45:38morning on WCHS that the Francis Scott Key Bridge had collapsed, just I sunk
- 45:45and started trying to gather information immediately. My brother still lives in Dundalk and
- 45:52he can basically he's five minutes away from the bridge and it can actually see
- 45:57it from his back door. And when he got up to this morning,
- 46:00an iconic image that's out there on the Paxico River is now in the water.
- 46:06The ship itself is a container ship, just looking at My dad was
- 46:12a tugboat captain in the Baltimore Harbor for thirty nine years, ending up his
- 46:17career with the Moran Towing Company and I've traveled with him on the tugboat under
- 46:23that bridge on numerous occasions. And just looking at the ship, it's about
- 46:27twelve hundred foot container ship. It was outbound at one point thirty this morning
- 46:32when something happened. None of the officials have said exactly what has happened.
- 46:38They're still investigating that. You can imagine that it's all hands on deck right
- 46:44now. And the watching that video, it reminded me of when they collapsed
- 46:50the old Saint Albans Nitro Bridge, when they did that on purpose and demolished
- 46:54it and it just dropped in the river into the Canal River. That's what
- 46:59happened here. I mean, the bridge just dropped. Any information as it
- 47:02pertains to you know, if there was any cars on the bridge, any
- 47:07vehicles on the bridge at the time. I know there's a report that there
- 47:10were workers on the bridge working overnight, so you know that's all coming from
- 47:15Maryland Transportation. The Baltimore County and Baltimore City fire departments were on hand within
- 47:22minutes and two folks were retrieved. One refused treatment, he's okay, but
- 47:30another one is in the hospital. Dave just being a native Baltimore and I
- 47:34talked to my brother this morning and my nephew works in the Port of Baltimore.
- 47:39They're telling people just to stay home. A lot of workers are just
- 47:44to stay home. And right now, the other than for trucking in and
- 47:49out of the various loading docks and stuff. All shipping has been curtailed by
- 47:54the Coastguard and by the Maryland Transportation So it's an incredible being up there.
- 48:00The needless to say. Yeah, Governor Wes Moore of of Maryland is actually
- 48:05speaking doing a live press conferences as we speak right now. So reports are
- 48:09Joe is that the ship contacted I guess those with the and I don't know
- 48:15the first thing about shipping, but I guess they contacted somebody and said,
- 48:19look, we're having some issues. We may not be able to make this,
- 48:24and sadly enough they didn't. Well, right now they're trying to determine
- 48:29the first nine one one call. There are some reports indicating that the nine
- 48:34to one one call actually did come from the ship itself. Each ship.
- 48:39As as as I mentioned, my dad was a My father was a tugboat
- 48:45captain, but he was also considered his correct title was a harbor pilot docking
- 48:50master. Then there's a harbor pilot who then I mean, there's three different
- 48:55polots that will bring them in from the bay, bring them into the harbor,
- 49:00and then turn them over to the docking master, which is the tugboat
- 49:04captain. I would probably I assume, and I could be corrected real easily,
- 49:08but I believe the harbor pilot was on with them and they were headed
- 49:13very close. They were. You can if you see the pictures, there's
- 49:16a couple standing sticking straight up in the air. That's the outer markers,
- 49:21and they would be turning them over to the bay pilot, and then the
- 49:25bay pilot the ocean going pilot. So it's it's an extensive situation of how
- 49:31they moved the ships in and out of the harbor. But everything, as
- 49:36you were mentioning of how any may days or you know, the calls coming
- 49:39in, that's all going to be determined by the transportation folks. All right,
- 49:44Joe, I appreciate you taking time to be here with us this morning
- 49:46again Native Baltimore, and you certainly know that the area very well. I
- 49:51appreciate it, my friend. We'll talk again soon. Thanks a lot,
- 49:52Dave. On a lighter note, Yes, best of like to your Baltimore
- 49:58orials this season, all right, thanks a Joe. Joe Stevens again is
- 50:01from the city of Nitro. He's also with the West Virginia Ski Association.
- 50:05And Joe actually and I were talking about five point fifteen or so this morning
- 50:08because he is a native of Baltimore and he certainly knows that area very well.

- 51:15broadcasters. According to a text big story out of Huntington, and that's the
- 51:21departure of Heads basketball coach Dan d'antni. I was actually on campus at Marshall
- 51:25last night when I've had a series of meetings at Marshall University last night,
- 51:30and it was surreal that feeling on campus. When I arrived on campus last
- 51:34night, I didn't know any of this and then immediately just hit with all
- 51:37this while I'm actually in a meeting at the Henderson Center last night. Former
- 51:40Marshall player and current assistant coach Cornelius Corney Jackson is a new headman there.
- 51:46I will say this as a son of Marshall. It's a bad situation because
- 51:52I know nobody loves Marshall University in the city of Huntington more than coach d'An
- 51:55TONI does. He's been a part of this organization for sixty years, one
- 52:00way or the other. Seventy six years old. He was the oldest coach
- 52:04in Division one. He is stepping inside. Corny Jackson, another Marshall guy,
- 52:07Okill Native will be the new head coach. I will say this,
- 52:10I love Coach D'Antoni. I have a picture of coach and I hanging in
- 52:15my office upstairs. Maybe it was time for him to go. I just
- 52:20hope that whatever happens, he can remain a part of the Marshall program because
- 52:22there is no better ambassador for the Marshall University and the city of Huntington,
- 52:27Dan Coach Dan d'antuny. All right, thanks to all my guests on the
