- 0:00Speaker 1: Thanks for joining the me Eater podcast. We're in Las Vegas,
- 0:03Speaker 1: Nevada as something called Shot Show. Um. Some folks might
- 0:09Speaker 1: call it ship show, but a shot Show. It's a chaotic,
- 0:12Speaker 1: hectic convention dedicated to all things shooting and hunting related.
- 0:25Speaker 1: It's an annual thing in Las Vegas. It's like it's
- 0:31Speaker 1: I'm here with your honest you tell us Helen Show,
- 0:34Speaker 1: what was wrong? Nothing? I'm just looking at Ryan Helen Show. Um,
- 0:43Speaker 1: Kenton Caruth from First Light, Ryan Callahan from First Light.
- 0:47Speaker 1: Someone take a stab and explaining Shot Show after two days,
- 0:50Speaker 1: I knows what it stands for. I don't want to
- 0:53Speaker 1: stands for to shooting, hunting, outdoor and trade. It's just
- 1:02Speaker 1: too much. If they wouldn't let any people in and
- 1:05Speaker 1: I could just go around on. You know, like a
- 1:10Speaker 1: while ago, there's a big scandal because Oprah Win. If
- 1:12Speaker 1: you wanted to go into some store in Paris and
- 1:14Speaker 1: she had him like closed the store, I'm not up.
- 1:18Speaker 1: This is old. I just remember hearing this. She had
- 1:20Speaker 1: him closed the store so she could shop privately. I
- 1:24Speaker 1: would like to have a day to spend it shot privately,
- 1:28Speaker 1: where it's just all the people who run all the booths,
- 1:32Speaker 1: but no other people are allowed except me to go
- 1:35Speaker 1: in and walk around and find out about what I
- 1:37Speaker 1: want to find out about without anybody else being there
- 1:40Speaker 1: except people who I needed. Where I would push a
- 1:44Speaker 1: button and a person would materialize and tell me about
- 1:47Speaker 1: what I wanted to tell me about. That's what That's
- 1:49Speaker 1: my kind of shot show, Steve show. But hurting down
- 1:55Speaker 1: these corridors is just it's just too much, do you
- 2:01Speaker 1: think about it, cal Man? I, yeah, I totally agree.
- 2:06Speaker 1: Except for my version of shot show, I wouldn't be here,
- 2:10Speaker 1: but I'd hit your button. I'd go to first. Let
- 2:13Speaker 1: that keep hitting the button until Kelly and showed up
- 2:16Speaker 1: there and I was like, yeah, I'm talking about the
- 2:17Speaker 1: new products. But it obviously serves a purpose. It serves
- 2:22Speaker 1: a huge purpose, it does it does? You know? There's
- 2:25Speaker 1: the people are like bringing out their new stuff here.
- 2:30Speaker 1: They're launching new products here, and that's pretty interesting. Um,
- 2:35Speaker 1: and you get you know, there's a lot of press folks.
- 2:38Speaker 1: Like when we had the p h A Cocktail Hour yesterday,
- 2:41Speaker 1: we had a lot of magazine editors there and that
- 2:45Speaker 1: was cool. What were they what were they sniffing around about?
- 2:48Speaker 1: Mostly free beer? So yeah, you had okay, and magazine
- 2:55Speaker 1: editor showed up. You got to do a little elbow robin. Yeah,
- 2:58Speaker 1: elbow robin, and we were getting the that Open Country Award.
- 3:05Speaker 1: I'll talk about that in a minute. So we got
- 3:08Speaker 1: you know, I got a couple of paths on the back,
- 3:10Speaker 1: and I gotta let him know that it's true, we
- 3:14Speaker 1: actually do good things. So at this moment, can't share
- 3:19Speaker 1: with us your acceptance speech. At this moment, can is
- 3:23Speaker 1: carefully crafting an acceptance speech that will be awarded to
- 3:30Speaker 1: First Light tonight for called the Open Country Awards comes
- 3:34Speaker 1: from Outdoor Life magazine. Right for advocating on behalf of
- 3:40Speaker 1: not just advocating, acting on behalf of advocating on behack
- 3:44Speaker 1: of being a defender of public lands and public access. Yep, yep,
- 3:50Speaker 1: we um, I don't know, maybe a year ago, um
- 3:54Speaker 1: id Ryan credit we uh. We basically did a similar
- 3:57Speaker 1: thing to what Midway does with the n r A,
- 3:59Speaker 1: and it is we had a we call it round
- 4:02Speaker 1: up for conservation, So when a guy buy something, he
- 4:05Speaker 1: can either round up the next dollar or donate you know,
- 4:09Speaker 1: how much ever he wants. Basically, I think it's TETs
- 4:11Speaker 1: to be like five ten and hundreds, but um to
- 4:14Speaker 1: a certain extent um. And then he can either pick
- 4:18Speaker 1: whether he wants to give it to the uh the
- 4:21Speaker 1: t r c P, which is the Teddy Roosevelt Conservation Partnership,
- 4:25Speaker 1: or you can give it to the back country Hunters
- 4:27Speaker 1: Angler pheasants forever um or all of the above. Um. So, uh,
- 4:34Speaker 1: you know, we're a small company, but you know, every
- 4:36Speaker 1: little bit helps, and it's kind of built into our
- 4:38Speaker 1: companies kind of ethos that I mean, if we didn't
- 4:41Speaker 1: have public lands, we wouldn't have a business. So you
- 4:43Speaker 1: kind of got a you know, it's uh, it's it's important,
- 4:47Speaker 1: you know, because most of you guys customers were like
- 4:52Speaker 1: even the guys I think that are back East a
- 4:55Speaker 1: lot are are are guys that are you know, hunting.
- 4:58Speaker 1: You know, it's not quite so prevalent there. You know,
- 5:01Speaker 1: they try to maybe separate themselves a little bit from
- 5:03Speaker 1: the absolute you know, densist hunting populations. And certainly and
- 5:07Speaker 1: so in the West we have talked about like that
- 5:11Speaker 1: like scenario where if everything is leased up and chunked
- 5:15Speaker 1: up and it's hunting clubs everywhere, and public land is
- 5:19Speaker 1: not like a viable option for actually harvesting game that like,
- 5:25Speaker 1: how technical of hunting apparel do you need? Like everybody's
- 5:29Speaker 1: sitting in a heated box blind right, you know, we
- 5:33Speaker 1: wouldn't exist. It's kind of like, uh, it's very apropos
- 5:38Speaker 1: today to beginning this award right now, and they're giving
- 5:41Speaker 1: out the award right now about conservation of public lands
- 5:45Speaker 1: because I think public lands is something people don't even
- 5:47Speaker 1: really think about. But then over the last few weeks
- 5:50Speaker 1: we've been dealing with these Oregon dick shines who are
- 5:56Speaker 1: well put coming out. I mean they're not even these
- 5:59Speaker 1: dick shines in Oregon who are coming out and saying
- 6:04Speaker 1: that the best thing to do with our nation's public
- 6:08Speaker 1: lands is let them have unfettered, unpaid grazing access on
- 6:13Speaker 1: those lands. As though It's like, I don't think the
- 6:17Speaker 1: public should own it. I just think that I should
- 6:19Speaker 1: be able to do it for what I want to
- 6:21Speaker 1: use it for, because it's here and so am. I
- 6:25Speaker 1: wonder what they would say if I roll doing the
- 6:26Speaker 1: trailer with just like you know, head and some great son.
- 6:34Speaker 1: A matter of fact, I'm gonna set up a grazing
- 6:36Speaker 1: operation here as well. What I'm gonna do, No, now
- 6:38Speaker 1: that it's become clear that it is that there's absolutely
- 6:42Speaker 1: no problem from a law enforcement perspective for you to
- 6:44Speaker 1: common deer federal property. I'm gonna go in. It's like
- 6:48Speaker 1: I'm gonna go take Mammoth Hot Springs and I'm gonna
- 6:53Speaker 1: be like, you know what, dude, I should be able
- 6:55Speaker 1: to hunt here and Yellowstone. I don't want all these
- 6:58Speaker 1: other people in here at low Stone. I've been eyeball
- 7:01Speaker 1: in this place for a long time. People used to
- 7:03Speaker 1: be able to hunt here prior to eighteen seventy seven
- 7:07Speaker 1: or even later than that. So it's back to the
- 7:10Speaker 1: way I want it. I got a gun. If you
- 7:13Speaker 1: come near Mannoth Hot Spring on a shoot you, I'm
- 7:16Speaker 1: building a hunting cabin. I'm hunting it, bitch, because this
- 7:20Speaker 1: is just my ship. And I got a gun pipes
- 7:24Speaker 1: in this hot spring. Why yeah, I know, it's like why, like,
- 7:26Speaker 1: why not? Because law enforcement doesn't care. A matter of fact,
- 7:31Speaker 1: I'll be driving around. I'd be down here shots showing
- 7:33Speaker 1: my Yellowstow National Park truck. Because they drive around and
- 7:38Speaker 1: come and go in federal vehicles. It's a okay, dude.
- 7:44Speaker 1: If it was any other kind of mug, they would
- 7:46Speaker 1: have shot him up. And then the really funny thing
- 7:48Speaker 1: is like here shots who go to the law enforcement department.
- 7:50Speaker 1: All it is. It's all kinds of equipment for enforcing
- 7:54Speaker 1: law law enforcement. So it's like every kind of thing
- 7:58Speaker 1: you need to kill, every kind of crook, and the end,
- 8:00Speaker 1: every kind of property is all here, and it's like,
- 8:04Speaker 1: why not let's round up a bunch of this ship
- 8:06Speaker 1: and going force some laws in Oregon. No one cares.
- 8:11Speaker 1: It is so paint. We've discussed to this at length
- 8:15Speaker 1: at the First Light office. While we should be doing
- 8:17Speaker 1: other things more specific to First Light m I they care,
- 8:24Speaker 1: and they should be enforcing. I think they're taking a
- 8:27Speaker 1: very tactful approach that I do not understand. I would
- 8:31Speaker 1: prefer they go in and you don't want to be
- 8:34Speaker 1: like Ruby Ridge. You don't have to wake. You can't
- 8:36Speaker 1: have being the one of these guys in there making
- 8:38Speaker 1: some coffee on the government coffee pot and all of
- 8:40Speaker 1: a sudden his brains are splattered over the inside because
- 8:42Speaker 1: some guy shot him through a window. Agreed, But they're
- 8:46Speaker 1: leaving town and going to all these kind of activities
- 8:49Speaker 1: and grocery shopping. One of them was at some public
- 8:51Speaker 1: comment period with a bunch of law enforcement officials need
- 8:54Speaker 1: drove back to the thing. Yes, yeah, wins enough enough
- 8:58Speaker 1: and even seen any of the pack. Could you send them? Yeah, yeah,
- 9:02Speaker 1: that's funny. If you guys sent him anything on behalf
- 9:05Speaker 1: of the first line, I don't know what we'd send them.
- 9:07Speaker 1: I wanted to jump on the bandwagon in a bad way,
- 9:10Speaker 1: but when it's not your original idea. Yeah, you know,
- 9:15Speaker 1: I got a buddy was saying that. Um, he hopes
- 9:18Speaker 1: the pretty soon they'll be spending some time in another
- 9:20Speaker 1: federal facility, but the only problems will be paying for
- 9:23Speaker 1: them there too. Yeah yeah, right now we're paying their heat. Yeah, enforcement,
- 9:29Speaker 1: you know, um, because there's so many different agencies right there.
- 9:33Speaker 1: But you know, the Forest Service cops are apt the
- 9:36Speaker 1: Forest Service building which is shut down, and they're watching
- 9:41Speaker 1: out and making sure, you know, nothing gets screwed up
- 9:44Speaker 1: with there, and we're all we are paying for an
- 9:48Speaker 1: insane amount of over time. This is all actually just
- 9:51Speaker 1: a diversionary tactic from me and Yanni. Take Mammoth right,
- 9:56Speaker 1: I like it. Yellow Stone, Dude, North Entrance. It's like
- 10:00Speaker 1: everyone's watching Oregon and Austin Menoni going to the Yellowstone
- 10:03Speaker 1: guns drawn guns blazing, Like, damn it, we're taking this
- 10:06Speaker 1: back and hunting, guns blazing and clothing option right, It's
- 10:12Speaker 1: just is it's like, I don't want to talk about
- 10:14Speaker 1: this all day, but it's so ridiculous and so anti
- 10:17Speaker 1: American and the fact that these guys can somehow cloak
- 10:21Speaker 1: themselves in the flag. You know, it'd be like if
- 10:25Speaker 1: I went in, I'd get like a Ryan Callahan shirt,
- 10:28Speaker 1: Like I get like a Ryan Callan shirt with Ryan's
- 10:30Speaker 1: picture on it and stars all over, and I go
- 10:32Speaker 1: in and burn your fucking house down, And he'd be like, oh,
- 10:35Speaker 1: but you know what, he says, He's doing it for
- 10:38Speaker 1: Ryan Callahan, So I must be confused. I must mistakenly
- 10:42Speaker 1: think that this is somehow an aggression against me because
- 10:45Speaker 1: he says it's for me, So like we're doing this
- 10:47Speaker 1: for America's like what aspect of America? Your private livestock business.
- 10:53Speaker 1: It has nothing to do with patriotism, has nothing to
- 10:55Speaker 1: do with the United States of America. It's just like
- 10:57Speaker 1: unbridled greed and a complete disregard for historical perspective and
- 11:02Speaker 1: no fucking idea what you're talking about. Have you ever
- 11:04Speaker 1: ducks on it? There? No, you count. It's pretty good. Huh.
- 11:09Speaker 1: It's just a certain and the fact that people keep
- 11:13Speaker 1: giving these guys like a platform and talk about putting
- 11:16Speaker 1: the land back to use for who you right now,
- 11:20Speaker 1: it's working for like it's working for the nation. It's
- 11:22Speaker 1: working for you know, are like common wildlife heritage are
- 11:25Speaker 1: common access heritage is providing like you can't. I don't
- 11:29Speaker 1: care what kind of denomination you come from. What's that
- 11:31Speaker 1: of devotion you come from? We need to have habitat
- 11:35Speaker 1: and protective measures for American wildlife. One of the ways
- 11:38Speaker 1: we do that is through the refuge system, particularly of wetlands.
- 11:41Speaker 1: If you think it's somehow, I don't care, like where
- 11:43Speaker 1: are you coming at it from religion or some kind
- 11:45Speaker 1: of pagan perspective or some kind of atheist perspective, is
- 11:48Speaker 1: just simply wrong to abuse wildlife. You have to have
- 11:53Speaker 1: a place for wildlife, in a place for wildlife habitat
- 11:55Speaker 1: the fact you act like a wildlife refuge is somehow
- 11:59Speaker 1: this pointless land being like not used. It's being used
- 12:04Speaker 1: probably the best thing it could be used for. Plus
- 12:06Speaker 1: it's open to the public if you hunt the refuge system.
- 12:09Speaker 1: The obviously the fact that they went out under the
- 12:15Speaker 1: guise of protesting to get these two ranchers out of
- 12:19Speaker 1: prison whose families didn't want him to do it. And
- 12:22Speaker 1: their poachers, I mean they're poachers. They're burning the field
- 12:25Speaker 1: to cover up evidence of poaching. That's the other thing
- 12:29Speaker 1: is these guys before went and like went out and
- 12:32Speaker 1: burned your lands, so burned federal lands as you know,
- 12:35Speaker 1: and then back off federal agents with firearms. Nothing comes
- 12:39Speaker 1: of it, Like, what kind of message does it send?
- 12:42Speaker 1: Do you can just bully like our institutional enforcement measures.
- 12:48Speaker 1: It's like, oh yeah, patriotism. Patriotism. However, you people who
- 12:51Speaker 1: abide by the law, have follow electoral politics, try to
- 12:55Speaker 1: engage in civic duties. And we've put together a constitution.
- 12:59Speaker 1: We put together a w that we enforce laws in
- 13:01Speaker 1: the way that we have a representative government, right that
- 13:04Speaker 1: you can address and have legislation and an issue to
- 13:07Speaker 1: the change things you don't want. You know, we don't
- 13:09Speaker 1: like any of that. We're so patriotic, we can't stand
- 13:13Speaker 1: constitutional government. That's how patriots. It's like, at what point
- 13:17Speaker 1: are they just to be called out for people who
- 13:19Speaker 1: are like un American, anti American. Yeah, I don't want
- 13:26Speaker 1: to talk about You're gonna get a lot of people
- 13:29Speaker 1: fired up. And I don't feel good, you know, like
- 13:32Speaker 1: in a positive way, like about what's going on here,
- 13:34Speaker 1: because I think a lot of people are a little complacent.
- 13:36Speaker 1: They're just kind of like watching on the news and
- 13:38Speaker 1: they're kind of like whatever, you know, Dick Shines and Oregon,
- 13:41Speaker 1: like any bothering what I'm doing right here in my world,
- 13:44Speaker 1: you know, a call to action. I would invite anyone
- 13:48Speaker 1: who's curious about this issue to go read about the
- 13:51Speaker 1: environmental history in that area and study up on what
- 13:57Speaker 1: it was like under the cattle barons. Study up in
- 14:00Speaker 1: was like when it was decimated by drought in overgrazing
- 14:04Speaker 1: and no one was doing ship there. It's more complicated
- 14:09Speaker 1: than just that there was this long, glorious heyday of
- 14:12Speaker 1: unfettered land use and all of a sudden, now they're
- 14:16Speaker 1: fighting over things or arguing over things and wanted to
- 14:19Speaker 1: take claim for wanting to seize access to things that exist.
- 14:24Speaker 1: Because of the level of federal protection it has, people
- 14:26Speaker 1: had to work so hard to get that protected in
- 14:30Speaker 1: all people, so many people had to come together and
- 14:32Speaker 1: be like, Okay, we really messed this stuff up. We're
- 14:36Speaker 1: gonna take some measures protect this stuff. The FEDS have
- 14:39Speaker 1: made concessions two local ranchers. The existing size of the
- 14:45Speaker 1: refuge is actually smaller than when it was established. So
- 14:50Speaker 1: it's like this beautiful example of the process working, not
- 14:57Speaker 1: the process not working. Thank it's totally It's a bipartisan,
- 15:02Speaker 1: beautiful thing, and these guys are totally using it as
- 15:07Speaker 1: an example of God knows what greed is what I come. Yeah,
- 15:10Speaker 1: if there's so much public support for where they're coming from,
- 15:13Speaker 1: then why don't they You don't take political measures to
- 15:16Speaker 1: to fix it the same way anybody does anything. I
- 15:19Speaker 1: don't want to keep talking about it all day but
- 15:21Speaker 1: crying out woud Anyhow, First Lights getting this big award.
- 15:26Speaker 1: Ken doesn't know what he's gonna say. Can't just right
- 15:30Speaker 1: now real quick, act like you're up there. So I'm like,
- 15:32Speaker 1: the award goes to First Light. Okay, stands up, Kim
- 15:40Speaker 1: stands up and says, uh, mostly not to think Andrew
- 15:43Speaker 1: McKean and uh and Outdoor Life Magazine for you know,
- 15:47Speaker 1: paying attention to that. This is a big cause, you know.
- 15:49Speaker 1: And at the end of the day, there's a lot
- 15:51Speaker 1: of people that that don't want vast amounts of public land.
- 15:56Speaker 1: They'd rather use it for their kind of own personal
- 15:59Speaker 1: and potentially the ill gotten gains and and and you know,
- 16:03Speaker 1: for the greater population it would it gets taken away.
- 16:06Speaker 1: So you know, these guys are up there them and
- 16:09Speaker 1: and you know Teddy Roosevelt Conservation Partnership and back Country
- 16:13Speaker 1: unders Anglers, and they're these groups that are fighting and
- 16:16Speaker 1: they're fighting hard to keep lands public. So people that
- 16:21Speaker 1: you know might not have, you know, fifty dollars to
- 16:24Speaker 1: go to Africa to do these you know, crazy private
- 16:28Speaker 1: hunts can have these amazing public experiences well within their means,
- 16:33Speaker 1: you know. And and from a selfish point of view,
- 16:37Speaker 1: I that's what I love to do. And that's what
- 16:39Speaker 1: my company makes close for people to do, to people
- 16:41Speaker 1: to be able to go out and you know, brave
- 16:44Speaker 1: the elements and spend time out in the woods. So um,
- 16:48Speaker 1: it's a it's an issue close to my heart's what
- 16:50Speaker 1: I like to do. I like to go out in
- 16:51Speaker 1: the woods and in winter time, whether it be you know,
- 16:54Speaker 1: skiing or snowboard in the back country, or whether it
- 16:56Speaker 1: be hunting on public lands. You know, it's always spent
- 16:59Speaker 1: a shipload of time that was perfect. You filled up
- 17:03Speaker 1: your time slot perfectly. Well, just remember that. I just
- 17:06Speaker 1: should think I haven't recorded it. I'm just gonna play it.
- 17:10Speaker 1: You just staying up there. I couldn't be here today.
- 17:12Speaker 1: There was one of those tape decks, like when you
- 17:15Speaker 1: like in the old days at a wedding, they set
- 17:16Speaker 1: out like a CD player and hit player. Yeah, you
- 17:19Speaker 1: can say Kenton is under the pupid having mild modern anxiety.
- 17:24Speaker 1: But in the place, I'll play this right here. I
- 17:27Speaker 1: just like to keep to keep going on. I just
- 17:30Speaker 1: I do have a couple more things to say. The issue.
- 17:32Speaker 1: Like I was talking my brother about the public lands issue.
- 17:35Speaker 1: He's like, I just don't understand when someone goes by,
- 17:38Speaker 1: you know that they go by to say, like the
- 17:40Speaker 1: Gallant Mountains, so like there it is national force open
- 17:44Speaker 1: for everybody to go to, protected in perpetuity. Is he like,
- 17:48Speaker 1: are they driving by an adversary to public lands, an
- 17:52Speaker 1: adversary of federal public lands? Do they drive by and
- 17:56Speaker 1: look at like what do they see? Like He's like,
- 17:58Speaker 1: are they like, I'll only be happy when that's a resort.
- 18:02Speaker 1: I'll only be happy when that's developed from the valley
- 18:07Speaker 1: floor to the peak. That's my vision, Like I don't understand,
- 18:10Speaker 1: like what is the motivating factor? I understand what it's
- 18:14Speaker 1: like economic, but like what is the motivating factor? Like
- 18:16Speaker 1: why can't you just look at that and be like
- 18:19Speaker 1: thank God, because we are at no risk of running
- 18:23Speaker 1: out of developed areas, but we are at tremendous risk
- 18:27Speaker 1: of running out of non developed areas. Problem is that
- 18:31Speaker 1: they've never looked at it. Look at all time. Who
- 18:36Speaker 1: you think constantly there's there's there's adversaries to the public
- 18:41Speaker 1: land movement, and then staying public land. They are driving
- 18:44Speaker 1: by those mountains looking at him, thinking that they're seeing it,
- 18:48Speaker 1: but I don't think they're there. The movement against public
- 18:52Speaker 1: lands is in a lot of ways is the native movement. Okay,
- 18:56Speaker 1: I I agree with all fronts, but I think that
- 18:59Speaker 1: that that that the way it kind of plays out
- 19:01Speaker 1: is a little different. I think how it plays out
- 19:03Speaker 1: is the state gets into bind. They owe a ton
- 19:06Speaker 1: of money somewhere, right, and then well, first of all,
- 19:09Speaker 1: the federal governments is okay, you control the states, so
- 19:11Speaker 1: they give it to the state. That's a whole another argument, right,
- 19:14Speaker 1: But then the state gets into a bind and they're like,
- 19:17Speaker 1: I don't know how you know we're gonna get at
- 19:18Speaker 1: this we're broken ship and they think, oh, I know
- 19:21Speaker 1: we can sell that place, and all of a sudden,
- 19:23Speaker 1: you know, that's kind of the slippery slope, and no,
- 19:26Speaker 1: that's that's how it's gonna shake out. And the long
- 19:28Speaker 1: that's like, that's that's the version of events of how
- 19:31Speaker 1: this becomes trouble. States are going to allow the level
- 19:34Speaker 1: of access public access, and then they're gonna that they
- 19:37Speaker 1: have the right to and will you know, lesson protections
- 19:41Speaker 1: or sell. But what then, what I'm talking about is
- 19:43Speaker 1: then all of a sudden, that is what people All
- 19:46Speaker 1: of a sudden, the dollar signs start going off, Like
- 19:48Speaker 1: I don't necessarily people think they drive by the you know,
- 19:51Speaker 1: crazy with the gallantons or anything, you know, any place
- 19:54Speaker 1: and say I want to develop that. Basically, what happens
- 19:57Speaker 1: is that there's a couple of things that happen and
- 19:59Speaker 1: all of a sudden it gets to where this you know,
- 20:02Speaker 1: some developers whoever believe they can profit off of it,
- 20:06Speaker 1: all of a sudden then they start to see it.
- 20:08Speaker 1: But I don't necessarily think that they say it's going
- 20:11Speaker 1: to start. I gotta get that before the next guy
- 20:13Speaker 1: does somebody else is going to get it. But I
- 20:16Speaker 1: and I think that once they smell blood, then they
- 20:19Speaker 1: go after it. But that's not necessarily so much. So, yeah,
- 20:22Speaker 1: that you hate an open mountain side. Yeah, we're not
- 20:25Speaker 1: even like scratch. But I can't I keep making this
- 20:27Speaker 1: like mountain centric. It's not mountain such well, and in organon,
- 20:29Speaker 1: we're not talking my mountain. Right, That scrubby, little mixed grass,
- 20:34Speaker 1: chunk of prairie out there, it's right on the edge
- 20:37Speaker 1: of a development. Anyone ground doesn't do anything. They making
- 20:41Speaker 1: me any money exactly com So you know, it's I
- 20:47Speaker 1: think it just and it gets just chipped away and
- 20:51Speaker 1: chipped away and chipped away, you know. And and it's
- 20:53Speaker 1: a battle. They're they're just there's forces that want that
- 20:57Speaker 1: for themselves. Hell, and you do a lot of exercising
- 21:01Speaker 1: Central Park, right, he said, that's where you're riding your
- 21:03Speaker 1: bike for get ready for your elk cut the beds
- 21:06Speaker 1: don't open. You can apparently just go in there and
- 21:08Speaker 1: take it Central Park. Great. Long there's a terribly awesome,
- 21:14Speaker 1: terribly bad movie which made it really good about taking
- 21:18Speaker 1: Central Park. I don't remember what I think it was
- 21:20Speaker 1: called Taking Central Park. Show they keep though, Joe, tell
- 21:26Speaker 1: me to tell me some stuff that, uh, tell me
- 21:29Speaker 1: some stuff I don't know about. Oh, I wanted to
- 21:31Speaker 1: ask you a question. Actually, Um, have you eaten all
- 21:34Speaker 1: of you deer? Have I eaten all my dear? No?
- 21:36Speaker 1: I actually just bought a chest fezer nice. Yeah, So
- 21:40Speaker 1: have you eaten much of you dear? A lot of it?
- 21:42Speaker 1: But it's I don't know when the next opportunity I'll
- 21:46Speaker 1: have to go hunting. So I'm kind of well, I've
- 21:49Speaker 1: been just kind of savor like I've been eating more
- 21:51Speaker 1: fish or fish than are you know. I told you
- 21:54Speaker 1: come out in the spring, will do morals and turkeys.
- 21:58Speaker 1: That would be amazing. Now, hell, let me ask you
- 22:00Speaker 1: about this. We we were deer hunting in southwest Wisconsin
- 22:03Speaker 1: in an area that's known as the c w D Zone,
- 22:06Speaker 1: and it's area where there's been a, uh you know,
- 22:10Speaker 1: a number of high profile cases of chronic wasting disease
- 22:14Speaker 1: in that area for a long time. The state of Wisconsin.
- 22:17Speaker 1: I thought that they were going to kind of shoot
- 22:18Speaker 1: their way out of the problem by radically reducing her
- 22:23Speaker 1: densities in southwest Wisconsin is like basically like always deer
- 22:27Speaker 1: season unlimited tags. It was just then they kind of
- 22:32Speaker 1: regrouped and noledge teams of strategy is to learn to
- 22:34Speaker 1: live with c w D, monitor and see where it goes. Um.
- 22:40Speaker 1: C w D chronic waste diseases of course the deer
- 22:44Speaker 1: and elk version of mad cow or you know, scrapy
- 22:48Speaker 1: and sheep and um, we brought our deer and for testing.
- 22:53Speaker 1: Did you wait to get the results from your deer
- 22:55Speaker 1: before you started eating your deer? Know? So what happened
- 22:58Speaker 1: was apparently we cut it to short so he couldn't test,
- 23:02Speaker 1: My dear, you didn't they didn't have the glands on. Yeah, exactly,
- 23:07Speaker 1: So I ate it. What are the symptoms of c
- 23:10Speaker 1: w D. Well, you get up, your your brain starts
- 23:14Speaker 1: to look like Swiss cheese. But it's no one, no one,
- 23:17Speaker 1: no humans ever got c w D. Crustsfield Jacobs is
- 23:20Speaker 1: the human equivalent. No, I started, I mean, we ate it. Jump. Yeah.
- 23:25Speaker 1: But here's the thing, is okay, So there's a number
- 23:26Speaker 1: of things that they talked about with c w D.
- 23:29Speaker 1: Is the it's the prions here called prions, and prions
- 23:32Speaker 1: are concentrated in the spinal column in the brain. UM
- 23:37Speaker 1: Kennon just immediately clicked over to sci fi exactly. Um,
- 23:44Speaker 1: it manifests itself in a more stressed you're more stressed
- 23:47Speaker 1: all the time. That's thea you have been feeling like
- 23:49Speaker 1: stressed by any chance and allowing it what it's real
- 23:55Speaker 1: severe They like wind up for weird reason in Las Vegas.
- 23:59Speaker 1: So if you're like feeling stressful in Las Vegas seeing
- 24:01Speaker 1: lots of people, it could be so what they advise
- 24:05Speaker 1: it like, well, here's it's such a complicated picture with
- 24:08Speaker 1: with C W D. No person, no known person, like
- 24:13Speaker 1: there's no there's no known case of transmission from Dear
- 24:18Speaker 1: or Elk to humans. Mhm. But some people think it's
- 24:24Speaker 1: a matter of time. Some people think it just if
- 24:27Speaker 1: it was gonna happen, it would have happened. Really hard
- 24:30Speaker 1: to say. When a deer gets it, it's invariably fatal,
- 24:36Speaker 1: Like how soon, I mean, how quickly does it happen?
- 24:39Speaker 1: Can take a year or two, but you will die, No,
- 24:43Speaker 1: not you dear to gets it. It's a fatal thing.
- 24:47Speaker 1: It's just not instantaneous. They like they they go along,
- 24:50Speaker 1: go along, it seems like nothing's wrong with them, and
- 24:52Speaker 1: then they begin to have they begin to collapse. How
- 24:54Speaker 1: it transmitted that. I don't know what it has to
- 24:57Speaker 1: do with close proximity the animals, does it, does it
- 25:01Speaker 1: move to it? Does it move through insects? Someone looked
- 25:03Speaker 1: at sucks were like, sound like some real dumbasses for
- 25:06Speaker 1: not knowing how deer. No, No, it's it's knows to knows.
- 25:09Speaker 1: It's like, yeah, because that's how it jumps from high
- 25:12Speaker 1: fence operations, game farms and stuff, because wild animals in
- 25:15Speaker 1: inevitably wind up rubbing noses through the fence. Imagine that
- 25:19Speaker 1: Bambi scene. You know, I've never seen Bandy. Maybe I've
- 25:24Speaker 1: never seen baby. So you never got the results. I
- 25:27Speaker 1: got the results of mind result, which was, yeah, Dougs
- 25:32Speaker 1: never Dug Dur has never had a c w D.
- 25:34Speaker 1: Not not anything he's doing, but he's never had a
- 25:36Speaker 1: c w D deer to his knowledge, come off his property.
- 25:40Speaker 1: I waited, but this is the first deer that I've
- 25:42Speaker 1: ever eaten off Doug's place that I had tested. I
- 25:45Speaker 1: waited to get the test results because I have young kids. No,
- 25:54Speaker 1: I'm not worried about I know that I'm not worried
- 25:57Speaker 1: about them. The thing that the main thing I live
- 25:59Speaker 1: in fear of in No, I'm worried about. But here's
- 26:01Speaker 1: the thing, the main thing. No, let me just scrap
- 26:05Speaker 1: all that back. I just forget I said all that.
- 26:07Speaker 1: I want to read. I want to be beginning new.
- 26:10Speaker 1: The main thing I live in fear of is my
- 26:11Speaker 1: wife's wrath. Okay, nothing, she's kind of. Nothing scares me
- 26:17Speaker 1: like my wife's wrath. Were I too come home with
- 26:23Speaker 1: my dear well, first, were I to get it here?
- 26:28Speaker 1: And I got two doves, and I submit the heads
- 26:31Speaker 1: for testing, so there's results pending. Then I would come
- 26:37Speaker 1: home and we'd eat said deer. Then I would get
- 26:43Speaker 1: the results, and I would say, oh, by the way,
- 26:47Speaker 1: the deer we've been eaten turns out it's negative for
- 26:51Speaker 1: mad cow disease. It would be my balls. Does she
- 26:57Speaker 1: listen to our podcast? That's not good? Is so if
- 27:01Speaker 1: I was if I was to say, oh, the dear
- 27:05Speaker 1: we been e turns out it has chronic wasting disease.
- 27:09Speaker 1: The good The upside is there's never been a person
- 27:12Speaker 1: known to get it lose. I could have not brought
- 27:17Speaker 1: the head in. I could have done the whole thing
- 27:20Speaker 1: secret e. But the problem is might try to do
- 27:22Speaker 1: stuff secrety. It doesn't work and I get caught. So
- 27:26Speaker 1: it's like I try to every day wake up and
- 27:30Speaker 1: have it be that um like wake up, Like my
- 27:34Speaker 1: goal is to not be divorced. Cheesy, you live in
- 27:38Speaker 1: a constant state of fear. No, No, I just live
- 27:40Speaker 1: in a constant state of reality. It's like I am
- 27:45Speaker 1: committed to staying married in reducing friction, and friction is
- 27:49Speaker 1: feeding the kids meat that turns out as c w
- 27:51Speaker 1: ding In fact, that that would be major friction because
- 27:54Speaker 1: I've only just recently got back to right to eat
- 27:56Speaker 1: BlackBerry meat after getting tricking osis. We had a moratorium
- 28:01Speaker 1: on black bearry consumption that took me forever to get
- 28:04Speaker 1: out of him. Do you know that, Kenton, and I've
- 28:08Speaker 1: seen this firsthand, I cannot just openly say, oh, I
- 28:13Speaker 1: saw a bunch of elk or deer and I passed
- 28:16Speaker 1: him up. She'll be mad, Yes, she wants them in
- 28:20Speaker 1: the home. She wants them dead and on the plate. Yeah.
- 28:25Speaker 1: And when I say, it's like she's not interested the
- 28:28Speaker 1: whole shopping around from Oh no, not at all. And
- 28:31Speaker 1: when I my buddy asked me, like, how'd it go?
- 28:33Speaker 1: And I I have to be a little bit untruthful
- 28:38Speaker 1: and say I was terrible, when in reality it could
- 28:41Speaker 1: have been really good, you know what my wife says,
- 28:43Speaker 1: because it'll be like, especially bow hunters, you know, you
- 28:46Speaker 1: could be like day twenty and you're just like, man,
- 28:48Speaker 1: I'm tired, but you know, I'm pounding, I'm getting getting
- 28:51Speaker 1: it done. And my wife's always encouraged me to get
- 28:54Speaker 1: out in there and get after and I'll be like,
- 28:55Speaker 1: but you know, like think about all the memories I've
- 28:58Speaker 1: made in the last twenty days. She'll say, you know what,
- 29:01Speaker 1: you can't eat memories exactly exactly produce. Mr patelis, Yeah, yeah,
- 29:10Speaker 1: did you Did you guys have any kind of blowback
- 29:12Speaker 1: about eating bear meat servant to the kids and stuff. No,
- 29:17Speaker 1: one day the first time I did after that made
- 29:20Speaker 1: like meat candy. No, my kids just hose in it.
- 29:23Speaker 1: And uh, my wife's trying to like she got she
- 29:27Speaker 1: feel like, what is the same way, It's like, oh,
- 29:29Speaker 1: it's you know, she got bad from me. But the
- 29:34Speaker 1: kids just like shoveled into their mouths. I'm like, any
- 29:37Speaker 1: damn it just done. It's done now, just waiting to
- 29:40Speaker 1: see now because Rosy just eight a half pounder of
- 29:43Speaker 1: that stuff. Chest freezer is a good source of anxiety.
- 29:49Speaker 1: That's like, my anxiety is when you go to that
- 29:51Speaker 1: chest freezer and flip it open, and it's like at
- 29:53Speaker 1: the one third mark, one third fall. That's where I started. Yeah,
- 30:00Speaker 1: we need to get stamps at the office too. I
- 30:01Speaker 1: think there's a lot more meat sharing going on. I
- 30:05Speaker 1: think sharing was a positive way of looking at it.
- 30:08Speaker 1: We have some kind of communal freezers. Oh a lot
- 30:10Speaker 1: of meat stuff. We have that at ZPZ West and
- 30:14Speaker 1: Bowsman too. And my my stuff is in boxes duct
- 30:18Speaker 1: tape shut when every package has my name, like where
- 30:21Speaker 1: the animal was killed, dates, And I noticed someone else
- 30:25Speaker 1: deposited a bunch of meat, nothing on the rapper at all.
- 30:29Speaker 1: I'm like thinking, well, maybe they're going like them just
- 30:32Speaker 1: by nononymity. They're hoping that people will be like I
- 30:36Speaker 1: don't know what that is, yeah, or I'm like you
- 30:38Speaker 1: just being idiot, like, oh, well, this is obviously just communal.
- 30:42Speaker 1: You should just cut your box open and slip a
- 30:44Speaker 1: little more in there. Wait, so what did you guys
- 30:46Speaker 1: do with the rest of the bear with that had
- 30:47Speaker 1: tricking nosis? He put it in the communal cook it
- 30:52Speaker 1: for a bunch of people no, I smoked it. No.
- 30:55Speaker 1: Here's the thing. This is a funny story because my brother, Um,
- 30:59Speaker 1: do you text me or something? You're like, yeah. So
- 31:01Speaker 1: my brother was getting married and he did the you know,
- 31:03Speaker 1: you have a rehearsal dinner. So they had a rehearsal
- 31:06Speaker 1: dinner for seventy so he gets all, he gets me
- 31:09Speaker 1: and all our like a bunch of our buddies together
- 31:11Speaker 1: and we're all going to contribute wild game dishes that
- 31:14Speaker 1: we did do this. We did a rehearsal dinner for
- 31:16Speaker 1: seventy five people and it was a dozen courses a
- 31:18Speaker 1: wild game. But because like everybody just gets little taste,
- 31:21Speaker 1: you know, so like Danny made he made he took
- 31:26Speaker 1: moose brisket and made strami. So he did these little
- 31:31Speaker 1: open faced rubens um that was like one dish. And
- 31:36Speaker 1: we had like pickled pike on downline. And I had
- 31:37Speaker 1: been saying, yeah, man, I'm bringing and before we even
- 31:39Speaker 1: had the damn bear I'm talking about, Yeah, I'm bringing
- 31:42Speaker 1: in uh smoked bear ham. So I get the bear
- 31:47Speaker 1: and before I realized that got sick. I like smoked
- 31:49Speaker 1: this big bear ham and and um then later I
- 31:52Speaker 1: you know, got sick and I was telling man. He's like, man,
- 31:54Speaker 1: they'll be telling people about that because when they eat it,
- 31:56Speaker 1: they won't want to eat any of the food. And
- 31:59Speaker 1: I said, why I can't not tell him? He goes,
- 32:01Speaker 1: you're not tell him. Don't tell him that. He goes,
- 32:04Speaker 1: it's cooked now, right, Like it's totally safe, and like, yeah,
- 32:06Speaker 1: if I still I feel an obligation, he said, if
- 32:09Speaker 1: you're gonna tell him, don't even bring it. He goes,
- 32:12Speaker 1: I think you bring it and don't tell, But don't
- 32:14Speaker 1: bring it in and tell because then they'll think that
- 32:16Speaker 1: something's wrong with it. Hey, it's his wedding, you know.
- 32:18Speaker 1: You know, bear is good, but you've got it. I
- 32:21Speaker 1: mean that it's like bears have. This is I don't know,
- 32:24Speaker 1: but tons of it's a huge percentage bears of tricksis
- 32:29Speaker 1: huge percentage of cases of. But the fact is come
- 32:35Speaker 1: from bears, Come from bears. Yeah, but now I would
- 32:38Speaker 1: say that so And there's two counties in Montana, Lincoln
- 32:41Speaker 1: County and Sanders County. One of the bears over six
- 32:45Speaker 1: years of age that are tested in Lincoln County and
- 32:48Speaker 1: Sanders count This is old information from when I first
- 32:50Speaker 1: had my first bear came back positive of the bears
- 32:55Speaker 1: that had hit six years of age had contracted it
- 32:57Speaker 1: in those two counties. I think it's like I think
- 32:59Speaker 1: it's hampen. I think that. Yeah, and all in nineties
- 33:03Speaker 1: percent of the cases that humans get are getting from
- 33:05Speaker 1: bearn meat. But when I got it, I was registered
- 33:07Speaker 1: by the CDC as being in King County, Washington State,
- 33:12Speaker 1: and that was in whatever the hell you're two thousand
- 33:14Speaker 1: fourteen or two thousand fifteen. The previous guy to get
- 33:18Speaker 1: in all of King County was the guy that gotten
- 33:21Speaker 1: in two thousand seven from Mountain Lion. Oh. Interesting, but
- 33:24Speaker 1: most cases are from but it dies at a hundred
- 33:28Speaker 1: and sixty fahrenheight or something. Yeah, you don't have to
- 33:31Speaker 1: like ruling your meat. Just gotta cook it. Man. We're
- 33:36Speaker 1: back to eating it like we're back up and running.
- 33:39Speaker 1: And I'll take one thing I'm done with is I'm
- 33:41Speaker 1: done getting the sons of bitches tested. Yeah, just get
- 33:45Speaker 1: because I'm not gonna what am I gonna do. Let's
- 33:48Speaker 1: say they come back as as negative. No, I never
- 33:51Speaker 1: paid a dieing for its free. You know how much
- 33:55Speaker 1: that bear that we got sick from with the had
- 33:57Speaker 1: eight hundred and sixty eight larva per grand am. I
- 34:00Speaker 1: know you sent me that photo that's like the taste
- 34:04Speaker 1: like almost four four hundred thousand larvaker pound god, which
- 34:09Speaker 1: tells you two things. One of some dinky larva's dinky
- 34:12Speaker 1: larva because you didn't get the impression that you were
- 34:14Speaker 1: just eating larva. I feel like that you now have
- 34:18Speaker 1: eight hundred and sixty six more protein. I can tell
- 34:23Speaker 1: you where it all is. Yeah, it's like I can
- 34:25Speaker 1: tell you where it is from the pain the zombie,
- 34:28Speaker 1: from the parts that were painful. Damn. Yeah, and you
- 34:32Speaker 1: had like pain Jannie back, your neck, your calves. Yeah,
- 34:36Speaker 1: it was mostly back and uh, legs and then like biceps,
- 34:41Speaker 1: triceps area. What's interesting is when you used to be
- 34:44Speaker 1: able to get a tested for free UM at the
- 34:48Speaker 1: university in Bozeman, you would send in. They wanted a
- 34:54Speaker 1: golf ball sized piece of the tongue. No, not my
- 34:58Speaker 1: tongu not worth. Yeah. It's like one of these days
- 35:04Speaker 1: I won't be able to talk anymore. I I wanted
- 35:06Speaker 1: to find out in my head trick bro have to
- 35:08Speaker 1: write it out like I sent one. I sent a
- 35:10Speaker 1: golf ball size hunk of my tongue into the university.
- 35:14Speaker 1: Girl back al right, So I want to make a
- 35:19Speaker 1: little point here. I don't know if it's gonna go
- 35:21Speaker 1: anywhere or not, but people are always like, I can't
- 35:24Speaker 1: believe it. We're still eating bear meat because I was
- 35:28Speaker 1: doing a little bit of research here. But it's like salmonella,
- 35:33Speaker 1: which you can get from pretty much all raw foul. Right,
- 35:38Speaker 1: everybody eats chicken. Most Americans are eating chicken at home.
- 35:42Speaker 1: You have not raw chicken. You pretty much well, some
- 35:45Speaker 1: are now small percentage, but you have to treat that
- 35:49Speaker 1: almost like bear meat. Now, obviously, I think that the
- 35:52Speaker 1: symptoms sound what I'm just reading here sounds as bad
- 35:57Speaker 1: as what we went through with the trick analysis. You know,
- 36:00Speaker 1: like you're gonna it's basically a very severe fever and
- 36:03Speaker 1: you're gonna have to go and get it diagnosed by doctor,
- 36:05Speaker 1: to have them say, yes, you have salmonella, and it's
- 36:08Speaker 1: probably a very rare cases fatal, yes exactly, young, old
- 36:13Speaker 1: or whatever. Now, anybody has salmonella is then not living
- 36:16Speaker 1: with salmonella for the next five or ten years like
- 36:19Speaker 1: we are. But that doesn't matter because you don't feel
- 36:22Speaker 1: it and you can't recontract it, I know. So I
- 36:24Speaker 1: just want people to think about that. It's like when
- 36:26Speaker 1: you have chicken raw chicken in your house, you're kind
- 36:28Speaker 1: of dealing with a very similar product that has to
- 36:31Speaker 1: be treated similar to hunter. I agree. I mean, it's
- 36:35Speaker 1: a hundred and sixties. It's like, it's not that it
- 36:38Speaker 1: was so listen, Salmonella is one seven. We got sick
- 36:43Speaker 1: for being just downright stupid, and we knew we were
- 36:47Speaker 1: being stupid. While we were being stupid, We're being hasty
- 36:50Speaker 1: and commenting and joking about how we were going to
- 36:53Speaker 1: catch the sickness, like, yeah, you can really get sick
- 36:57Speaker 1: off some more. It was like, it's just I'm so
- 37:03Speaker 1: glad it happened because it just gave me, you know,
- 37:06Speaker 1: it just gives me more things to think about and
- 37:08Speaker 1: made me learn about a lot of new stuff. And
- 37:09Speaker 1: it's just not that bad of a sickness. If you
- 37:13Speaker 1: knew it would be even better. But it's like you
- 37:16Speaker 1: get a little worried because the word sounds weird and
- 37:19Speaker 1: you have worms, and that's not nerving to have worms.
- 37:23Speaker 1: I thought you guys said it was like got awful painful.
- 37:26Speaker 1: I thought, yeah, but not for that long. It's it's
- 37:29Speaker 1: like you're sick for a week it's like introspect you.
- 37:33Speaker 1: And if I had known, here's the thing, you're sick
- 37:36Speaker 1: for a week. If I had known, like when you
- 37:39Speaker 1: get a cold, it sucks. Now, imagine you've got a cold,
- 37:42Speaker 1: but you've never had one in your whole entire life,
- 37:44Speaker 1: and all of a sudden, there's ship running like snots
- 37:47Speaker 1: coming out of your nose. You had no one to
- 37:49Speaker 1: ask about because you never knew anyone that had one before.
- 37:53Speaker 1: How upsetting it would be, like, I can't understand there's
- 37:55Speaker 1: all this fluid draining out of my head, my ears
- 37:57Speaker 1: ringing funny, Um, I get these like weird body chills. Yeah,
- 38:02Speaker 1: you'd be like, I must be dying. You call around
- 38:04Speaker 1: people like that's never happened to me. Right then the
- 38:09Speaker 1: next time you get like, yeah, that's weird. I have
- 38:10Speaker 1: like all this like mucus draining out of my face,
- 38:13Speaker 1: which is unusual. But I've been through this before. It
- 38:16Speaker 1: goes away. So if I got it again now, I
- 38:19Speaker 1: just hang tight. I don't think I would miss work. Wait, wait,
- 38:24Speaker 1: do you think medicine or you just yes. I took
- 38:28Speaker 1: a lot of ibprofen, and I took some very expensive
- 38:31Speaker 1: de worming pills and I was the only one that
- 38:33Speaker 1: took the expensive Dean warming pills and we all got
- 38:35Speaker 1: better the same day. Interesting, we're all sick about Yeah,
- 38:40Speaker 1: there's basically no evidence to say whether those steroids, those
- 38:44Speaker 1: de warming how did you take them? It was pills
- 38:48Speaker 1: or if you had eight bear meat. And then the
- 38:51Speaker 1: next day we're like, oh, like say you got all
- 38:54Speaker 1: drunk or something bear carpacco And the next day like,
- 38:58Speaker 1: what did I do? That's when take the dee worming. Well,
- 39:01Speaker 1: what I heard is that if you if you eat
- 39:03Speaker 1: it large, and if you consume a large enough amount,
- 39:06Speaker 1: then you will actually feel the gasha intestinal pain, which
- 39:10Speaker 1: is the party of that the worms are having in
- 39:12Speaker 1: your stomach, which then you can go to the doctor
- 39:15Speaker 1: and be like something's wrong. They might be able to
- 39:16Speaker 1: catch it. You take the oral steroids, it kills it.
- 39:19Speaker 1: But because we all ate, you know, maybe an ounce
- 39:23Speaker 1: of meat that day, they got us sick. None of
- 39:26Speaker 1: us had symptoms for thirty days. So they had to
- 39:29Speaker 1: like build up a strong fortress before they really it's
- 39:32Speaker 1: when they start. They get into your basket. After they
- 39:35Speaker 1: make love and have babies, they get into your basket
- 39:37Speaker 1: their system and then they start burrowing into your muscle tissue,
- 39:40Speaker 1: and that's when you start feeling sick. It's like a
- 39:42Speaker 1: science fiction No. Man, here's the thing though. More so,
- 39:48Speaker 1: you have more bacteria in your body by magnitudes of
- 39:53Speaker 1: of of hundreds than you do actual cells. Kenton is
- 39:56Speaker 1: more other ship than he is. Kenton, pretty clear. Hands
- 40:02Speaker 1: a lot you wander eating. You're eating like blue gills
- 40:06Speaker 1: or perch. And I got little black specks on the flaze. Oh,
- 40:10Speaker 1: I mean only late in life, only late life. That
- 40:14Speaker 1: something point out to me. That's larvae. Have you ever
- 40:17Speaker 1: opened a helmet up? Yeah? I have, and I've taken
- 40:20Speaker 1: plenty of grouse apart and had them just like oh man,
- 40:23Speaker 1: worms everywhere, and I still got eating. No, you want
- 40:26Speaker 1: to hear worm? Can we tell them about our latest worms?
- 40:28Speaker 1: This is this is upsetting, all right. I shot a
- 40:31Speaker 1: CU's deer bock last week and in Old Mexico, in
- 40:35Speaker 1: Old Mexico, and we locked off his head. You know
- 40:38Speaker 1: how he hit the little spot right there. We have
- 40:41Speaker 1: those two lobes and it's really easy, just the night,
- 40:43Speaker 1: can you know, take his head off the frame and magna?
- 40:47Speaker 1: So what that is straight? Which what's the spinal uh?
- 40:52Speaker 1: Cords part called and which one is the part of
- 40:56Speaker 1: the school. I might be pronouncing it wrong because I've
- 40:58Speaker 1: only ever seen it written. I've never heard anybody say it.
- 41:00Speaker 1: That part of the skull is the frame and magnum,
- 41:02Speaker 1: like the little smooth Yeah, but the whole like that
- 41:06Speaker 1: little portion. I'm not sure I should look up how
- 41:08Speaker 1: to pronounce it. Just we're taking the head of heart,
- 41:11Speaker 1: just the head. No, we left the cape. They're covered
- 41:14Speaker 1: in ticks. It takes hours and hours to get the
- 41:16Speaker 1: ticks off because you can't bring it back into the US.
- 41:19Speaker 1: You know, it's like they're gonna do it with the
- 41:21Speaker 1: fine tooth comb. Anyways, you can imagine that head coming off.
- 41:24Speaker 1: You look at that like spinal cord area, and then
- 41:26Speaker 1: below that you kind of have the back end or
- 41:29Speaker 1: the bottom end of the nasal slash mouth cavity, and
- 41:34Speaker 1: in there are maybe a dozen, the smallest being the
- 41:40Speaker 1: size of like a what are the little worms used
- 41:43Speaker 1: for ice fishing? Yeah, waxworms, little waxworm. The biggest being
- 41:48Speaker 1: like the size of a big, fat white maggot, the
- 41:51Speaker 1: size of half bigger than half of your pinky. Yeah,
- 41:54Speaker 1: it's like silence of the lambs, right, and it's where
- 41:58Speaker 1: it's where it's signed us. Okay, it's the place where
- 42:02Speaker 1: your nasal cavity sinus intersects with like your like your
- 42:08Speaker 1: throat when it stophic. It starts basically yeah. Some some
- 42:12Speaker 1: it's abot fly that lays the egg on its nose
- 42:15Speaker 1: and it goes up there and goes to all its
- 42:17Speaker 1: permutations in there, and they are spilling out different colors, sizes.
- 42:23Speaker 1: Some have legs, some have arms. I mean dirt, Dirtmith.
- 42:28Speaker 1: I'm down there. We're down there, leaning over working on
- 42:30Speaker 1: it in the dark with head lamps. Garrett Smith almost
- 42:34Speaker 1: like he starts like he's gonna vombit. Dirt man. I'm like,
- 42:38Speaker 1: get away from me. Man. I'm like, if you're a
- 42:40Speaker 1: thrown up on this deer, it's like buck up. But yeah,
- 42:45Speaker 1: the Vicaro said, every single who's deer they've ever seen
- 42:50Speaker 1: killed has it. We killed a Columbia black tail in
- 42:52Speaker 1: California that had it. Was it in the meat too? Nope? No,
- 42:56Speaker 1: perfectly say you could eat the thing if you want
- 42:59Speaker 1: to do. Those things then fall out and go through
- 43:03Speaker 1: a whole cycle in the ground and then when they
- 43:06Speaker 1: hatch out of the ground, it's a fly and then
- 43:09Speaker 1: again he lands on the deer's nose, drops the egg,
- 43:12Speaker 1: whole thing starts over again. Doesn't doesn't cause any kind
- 43:15Speaker 1: of doesn't seem to cause any kind of infection in
- 43:18Speaker 1: the animal, doesn't seem to cause any kind of extreme discomfort.
- 43:23Speaker 1: They've never these guys down there have never seen one
- 43:25Speaker 1: that didn't have it. One of this guy was telling
- 43:28Speaker 1: us that the Carol's are like the Mexican cowboys have
- 43:31Speaker 1: a sort of legend where that is what thinks. That's
- 43:35Speaker 1: the part of the deer that thinks interesting. Disgusting, Yeah, disgusting.
- 43:42Speaker 1: We have that canine larva here. Your deer had that
- 43:46Speaker 1: the what's the canine parasite? I mean like puppies, that's
- 43:53Speaker 1: the parasites in your mule deer where in them in
- 43:57Speaker 1: the meat? See it's like I didn't know about that.
- 44:01Speaker 1: Oh yeah, those little yeah, those little dots. Yeah yeah,
- 44:04Speaker 1: what's it called. It's a canine parasite. Um. What do
- 44:09Speaker 1: they say about that stuff? Because they find it in
- 44:12Speaker 1: coyotes and wolves and stuff like that, So they say
- 44:15Speaker 1: that can you catch anything from it? No? No, not
- 44:19Speaker 1: just digest you just not transferable. That's good, dude, give
- 44:23Speaker 1: me a hardtack man. I would have to tell that
- 44:26Speaker 1: mrs about that. I learned something interesting. So now, um
- 44:36Speaker 1: we yeah, what's your concluding thoughts? Now? I had a question.
- 44:44Speaker 1: I wanted to know if you guys had seen The Revenant. Nope,
- 44:49Speaker 1: real bad want to have seen it. I liked it.
- 44:57Speaker 1: I thought they're seen in particulars, very realistic. It is interesting.
- 45:04Speaker 1: Steve that always said that he wanted to get swiped
- 45:06Speaker 1: once that would want to get mildly malled by a
- 45:09Speaker 1: bear and if he could, if he could, I would
- 45:12Speaker 1: like him to give me claw marks and a diagonal
- 45:15Speaker 1: pattern starting at my shoulder down to my lower abdomen
- 45:18Speaker 1: like a tattoo. But yeah, scar too, Yes, would be
- 45:22Speaker 1: pretty tough. I would That's what I would like. Whipped
- 45:24Speaker 1: his shirt off and had something like that. I wouldn't
- 45:26Speaker 1: be wearing one right now. I get I get shirts
- 45:30Speaker 1: made out of sea through material. Would you be disappointed
- 45:34Speaker 1: if you caught it like across the upper thigh. Yeah? Yeah,
- 45:38Speaker 1: It's better than nothing, but not what I would prefer.
- 45:41Speaker 1: I would like it on my face. Now that I'm married,
- 45:43Speaker 1: I'd like it on my face. It's like I gotta
- 45:46Speaker 1: go on meat ladies. Yeah, chicks would dig the helen. Yeah,
- 45:50Speaker 1: but no I wouldn't. They don't even need to. It's like,
- 45:52Speaker 1: you know, it's like big Bear mall Mark. Because I'm
- 45:58Speaker 1: already married, doesn't matter. Would you give up one of
- 46:01Speaker 1: your eyes for that? Yes, for the scratch I'm talking about,
- 46:09Speaker 1: not just to happen. Butt off my pinky and run
- 46:11Speaker 1: off that just that just sucks because no one's gonna
- 46:15Speaker 1: see that happened. Yeah. Yeah, Now I had injury. I
- 46:25Speaker 1: had like a distant relative. Uh, I had a distant
- 46:28Speaker 1: relative name. We called him Uncle Gunner, but it was
- 46:31Speaker 1: later explaining to me that he wasn't my uncle. He
- 46:33Speaker 1: had a uh stuffed monkey and in his entryway, so
- 46:40Speaker 1: we'd go there and remember his his dude name was
- 46:42Speaker 1: Gunner and his wife's name is Tooti, and we'd go
- 46:44Speaker 1: there and she always would like make a hand with
- 46:46Speaker 1: pineapple on it, and um, he had this entryway going
- 46:49Speaker 1: to before going into his house, like a little porch,
- 46:52Speaker 1: and he had a stuffed monkey on a stick, and
- 46:56Speaker 1: Uncle Gunner was missing a couple of fingers. And it
- 46:58Speaker 1: was always explained to Uh, you know, they have people
- 47:00Speaker 1: bullshit little kids with outlandish things, but they don't think that,
- 47:05Speaker 1: you know, they don't realize that the kids actually think
- 47:07Speaker 1: it's true. Uncle Gunner Eyes told us he lost his
- 47:09Speaker 1: fingers because that monkey bit him off, and they gave
- 47:13Speaker 1: him the monkey. That's what he said. Later I grew
- 47:16Speaker 1: up being like it wasn't. My mom was like, my
- 47:21Speaker 1: mom was like, this is not what happened to that
- 47:23Speaker 1: man's fingers. I don't know where he got that monkey.
- 47:26Speaker 1: He lost his fingers to a lawnmower, Like, I have
- 47:31Speaker 1: no idea what he told you or however, like got
- 47:34Speaker 1: to live this long in your head. That's what I have.
- 47:36Speaker 1: The Uncle Gunner his fingers. We have won multiple debates
- 47:39Speaker 1: on that. And then don't yeah, like, in fact, monkeys
- 47:43Speaker 1: do bite fingers off. Because I saw the monkey, I
- 47:48Speaker 1: know a guy, sir, we apologize for the monkey being vicious.
- 47:52Speaker 1: You may take it home, alright. So concluding thoughts, Helen
- 47:58Speaker 1: that I just want if you watched him evidence that's
- 48:00Speaker 1: not even like a thought. That's my only thought right now.
- 48:04Speaker 1: Yeal oh, have your concluding thought me about some exciting
- 48:08Speaker 1: new products we can see going off the first light. Boh,
- 48:13Speaker 1: I'm just I'm super excited and what we have going
- 48:17Speaker 1: on if people don't buy a single thing. This is
- 48:19Speaker 1: our best year of product. I mean, it's amazing stuff.
- 48:23Speaker 1: So I'm going to be very comfortable. I like those
- 48:28Speaker 1: new mittens a whole bunch. Yeah, Weed, that was I
- 48:31Speaker 1: had a lot of very sole original thoughts on that product.
- 48:34Speaker 1: It's really come along with Steve and Janice and Kenton
- 48:39Speaker 1: and Ben and everybody has put a lot of work
- 48:41Speaker 1: into into these mintens in there, you know, alsothing like
- 48:45Speaker 1: I have that chance. The word is the ball of
- 48:47Speaker 1: Claus that has the I call what's that stuff? Oh
- 48:55Speaker 1: my god? That's those nice it is and you can
- 48:57Speaker 1: still hear out of it. It doesn't that's great about Yeah,
- 49:02Speaker 1: that's what's great about that is you can hear through it. Yeps.
- 49:05Speaker 1: Panties made out of that stuff. Interest interesting. We tested
- 49:12Speaker 1: the I'm sorry, I don't know the name of the
- 49:14Speaker 1: new lightweight puffy that is the serious but serious Yeah.
- 49:19Speaker 1: We use that a lot last week in Mexico and
- 49:22Speaker 1: it was cold and we're layering it under our uncle
- 49:24Speaker 1: Pa Grey's and uh it was a nice piece. Well yeah,
- 49:28Speaker 1: good good layering piece, you know. And the Rockies at
- 49:32Speaker 1: least where we are, it doesn't rain a ton and
- 49:35Speaker 1: usually at least early elk season it's doesn't get too cold.
- 49:39Speaker 1: So you know, it's nice to be able to have
- 49:42Speaker 1: some light stuff that's gonna go in your pack if
- 49:44Speaker 1: you goofed up on the weather call. You know, you
- 49:45Speaker 1: wake up in the morning and it's like if you
- 49:48Speaker 1: can see the stars, doesn't it can rain or can
- 49:50Speaker 1: you know it can? Temperature can change and nothing worse
- 49:53Speaker 1: than just saying how I'm going light because I don't
- 49:55Speaker 1: want to, you know, fill up my put stuff in
- 49:58Speaker 1: my backpack and then freezing your ass off, you know.
- 50:00Speaker 1: So it definitely provides you with quite a bit of
- 50:03Speaker 1: of uh, you know, no matter what the weather does,
- 50:06Speaker 1: you should be pretty good for only a pound and
- 50:07Speaker 1: a half between that and the and the shell stuff
- 50:12Speaker 1: that think in your back pocket. Totally it might be
- 50:15Speaker 1: an exaggerate one you showed me yesterday for sure, then
- 50:18Speaker 1: I should get for servecasting. Was that the one that
- 50:20Speaker 1: he that's the heavy duty one And we also make
- 50:23Speaker 1: like a one that's a three and a half layer
- 50:26Speaker 1: just full on like as as barely of a waterproof,
- 50:29Speaker 1: breathable as you can get. You know, if it's gonna
- 50:31Speaker 1: rain too much for that, you pretty much need to
- 50:33Speaker 1: wear a rubber, you know, fishing style suit, but um
- 50:37Speaker 1: discretion on that jest plus came up with the winning name.
- 50:41Speaker 1: It's called It's got a mouth long hair mustache playing
- 50:47Speaker 1: the piano Seek, which is an acronym for Southeast Alaska.
- 50:52Speaker 1: Like that. Yeah, and you guys have gotten to wear
- 50:55Speaker 1: that right, Yeah. I we're in um British Columbia this year,
- 50:59Speaker 1: where it ain't more than it did not rain on
- 51:01Speaker 1: that trip and it performed well. I can't remember what
- 51:06Speaker 1: your honest one for getting the winning name. He hasn't
- 51:09Speaker 1: been paid. I think a pair of socks or something
- 51:12Speaker 1: showed up in the mail. Concluding thoughts, Give us an
- 51:21Speaker 1: update on it. Give us an update on Hunt to
- 51:22Speaker 1: Eat t shirts. Oh man, people were heckling Yanni last
- 51:26Speaker 1: night about in Nevada one. Yeah, yeah, everybody, if I
- 51:30Speaker 1: can touch on that for just a second. Everybody likes
- 51:33Speaker 1: to ride into us and see me and say, how
- 51:36Speaker 1: come there's no Kentucky Hunt Eat shirt. I'm like, well,
- 51:39Speaker 1: because you're like the third person that's requested, so you
- 51:44Speaker 1: can write, yeah, gather up some of your bodies. We're
- 51:46Speaker 1: not asking for a couple of hundred, but even like
- 51:48Speaker 1: ten to twenty, you know, and that that would really
- 51:50Speaker 1: bring your bring your state to the higher you know,
- 51:54Speaker 1: higher standing where you know it'll be next in line.
- 51:56Speaker 1: But I think last time I said we have Pennsylvania
- 51:59Speaker 1: and Alaska, California just came out. California's shirt is way sweet.
- 52:04Speaker 1: Looks like their flags, says hunt EAT's got a pig
- 52:06Speaker 1: on it. Do you think you'll eventually have all states? Oh?
- 52:11Speaker 1: That's what I have in my mind right now. It
- 52:12Speaker 1: is like one of the old old flags. It's got
- 52:16Speaker 1: like six stars in a circle on it. You don't
- 52:22Speaker 1: remember that sports Remember sports was guide, how the sports
- 52:25Speaker 1: was guide catalogs like back in the eighties and stuff
- 52:27Speaker 1: or nineties and just be pages and pages of T
- 52:30Speaker 1: shirts be like like happiness is a warm gut pile,
- 52:33Speaker 1: and it'd be like an Indian on a horse holding
- 52:35Speaker 1: up a compound bone. It's like what if? And it
- 52:38Speaker 1: was all those there's like all those shirts of like
- 52:41Speaker 1: wolves howling and just like pages and pages and pages
- 52:45Speaker 1: like get shirt with like an out house and then
- 52:46Speaker 1: out house Joe Okina, your catlo was gonna be like
- 52:49Speaker 1: that when you got all fifty states, I hope. So
- 52:51Speaker 1: we're doing your new home state next, and then ten
- 52:55Speaker 1: people from Washington, and then our our home state after that, Michigan. Yeah, yeah,
- 53:05Speaker 1: there you go. You just need two more requests, you'll
- 53:07Speaker 1: be there. We haven't. We have eight so far. I
- 53:09Speaker 1: wouldn't do it now that we know, now, now that
- 53:12Speaker 1: Ted Cruise has informed just that Helen has horrible, Um,
- 53:15Speaker 1: what do you guys have over there? You guys have
- 53:19Speaker 1: bad Oh, you guys have real bad values. Do you
- 53:21Speaker 1: have real bad values? Yeah, Joe Bastard, I had no
- 53:26Speaker 1: idea I heard. I had no idea what I heard,
- 53:31Speaker 1: Ted Cruise, you got New York, New York values. I
- 53:34Speaker 1: had no idea. Helen was so un American depraved. I
- 53:37Speaker 1: think that all she thinks about. If I'm not mistaken,
- 53:39Speaker 1: as you think about fashion in the media, maybe yeah,
- 53:43Speaker 1: I think you think. Yeah, especially think if your father
- 53:49Speaker 1: out there just like delivering the mail, and he's like
- 53:51Speaker 1: fashion media, fashion media, like dudes like digging through the
- 53:55Speaker 1: rubble of the World Trade Center, fashion media, fashion media.
- 53:59Speaker 1: It's like, give me a raid man. Yeah, that's my
- 54:02Speaker 1: concluding thought, Ken Miludaws, Helen's horrible. I just found out. Yeah,
- 54:08Speaker 1: And in fact, some of the best people I've ever
- 54:10Speaker 1: met in my entire life are also awful. And I
- 54:13Speaker 1: had no idea that they have a bad that they
- 54:15Speaker 1: have a bad value system based on where their work
- 54:18Speaker 1: put them, and they're gonna seize Central Park taking it
- 54:23Speaker 1: back there. Mean is yummy, and you just have to
- 54:28Speaker 1: make sure you don't eat it undercut. I don't want
- 54:30Speaker 1: to give a bad rap because people might hear this
- 54:33Speaker 1: or here a little extra freak out and think that
- 54:35Speaker 1: you know. No, no no, people don't listen to just a
- 54:37Speaker 1: little bit. So this is the whole thing. They don't
- 54:38Speaker 1: know all the bear nothing wrong. Bear like bear might
- 54:43Speaker 1: even no. I guess I didn't eat the chicken nooses
- 54:45Speaker 1: bear when you made it. You made the bear ham
- 54:48Speaker 1: smoke bear ham. The probably had it just wasn't tested great.
- 54:52Speaker 1: I did have one test. I did have one test
- 54:54Speaker 1: negative one time. I forgot about that. All right. So
- 55:00Speaker 1: this is part one here, here's the deal. This is
- 55:02Speaker 1: a longer one than normal because this is this is
- 55:03Speaker 1: part one of of of a two part shot show podcast.
- 55:09Speaker 1: So this is gonna segue. Now just keep listening here
- 55:12Speaker 1: and things are gonna change. It's gonna get real noise
- 55:14Speaker 1: with all kinds of background noise, and there's gonna be
- 55:16Speaker 1: a part two where we sit down and talk to
- 55:21Speaker 1: some gun guys. Stay tuned. Hey, welcome to the Meat
- 55:26Speaker 1: Eater Podcast. We're in uh Las Vegas, Nevada. This is
- 55:31Speaker 1: the first time we've ever done one of these anywhere
- 55:33Speaker 1: near this many people. You can kind of hear a
- 55:35Speaker 1: bunch of background noise. Now we're at something called shot
- 55:39Speaker 1: the Shot You guys even know what shots stands for?
- 55:42Speaker 1: Shooting hunting an outdoor trade show. Oh I knew it
- 55:45Speaker 1: must stand. Yeah, I've been here a number of times
- 55:48Speaker 1: and I never picked up what it exactly stands for.
- 55:51Speaker 1: But it's like if they when I when I was
- 55:54Speaker 1: a little kid, we always had this dream that uh
- 55:57Speaker 1: everyone that lived on the lake I grew up on
- 55:59Speaker 1: with all away on vacation and we drain the lake
- 56:02Speaker 1: and be able to go out there and see what
- 56:04Speaker 1: was in the lake. I have a similar dream about
- 56:06Speaker 1: Shot Show where I could have a private day where
- 56:09Speaker 1: no one would be allowed in and I could just
- 56:12Speaker 1: quietly stalk the aisles of Shot Show. Because it's so
- 56:17Speaker 1: much stuff goes on here you cannot take it all in.
- 56:22Speaker 1: It's just there's it's every thing you've ever heard of
- 56:28Speaker 1: or thought about in terms of, uh, the hunting and
- 56:31Speaker 1: shooting sports on one place. It's impossible to me. It
- 56:35Speaker 1: seems to kind of like focusing on any single specific
- 56:38Speaker 1: thing because there's just so much stuff going on, and
- 56:41Speaker 1: you can really find out sort of the state of
- 56:43Speaker 1: the world by coming down here. This is my third time,
- 56:45Speaker 1: but I'm here with a couple of guys from this Outdoors.
- 56:49Speaker 1: We have Bill Dermody, who Okay, you want to build,
- 56:52Speaker 1: explain yourself what you do and everything like that. Justify
- 56:56Speaker 1: my existence. Yeah, I'm not not marketing director for Savage
- 57:00Speaker 1: Arms and Stevens. So basically within Vista the firearms product
- 57:04Speaker 1: and the and the marketing revolving around that product. So
- 57:08Speaker 1: this am I allowed to talk. So uh yeah, this
- 57:13Speaker 1: outdoor is just um, you know, it's it's a it's
- 57:16Speaker 1: an organization that the consumer doesn't really hear about. It's
- 57:19Speaker 1: our parent company. But all these if you look around here,
- 57:22Speaker 1: all these great brands, we really are one of the
- 57:24Speaker 1: largest outdoor companies there is. So from Savage Firearms, Federal Premium,
- 57:30Speaker 1: c c I, R, CBS, black Hawk, all these great
- 57:34Speaker 1: outdoor brands and even something aren't here at the shot show.
- 57:37Speaker 1: We're just we're just a big piece of this show here.
- 57:40Speaker 1: And really, um, you know, from a standpoint of of
- 57:43Speaker 1: me working on the gun portion of this, it's it's
- 57:46Speaker 1: a real treat for me because not only do I
- 57:48Speaker 1: have a not only to have the firearms line, everything
- 57:51Speaker 1: that goes on in or around a gun is within
- 57:55Speaker 1: his armed reach for me. Now and then you've been
- 57:59Speaker 1: you've come to shops any times? Now? Uh my first one?
- 58:03Speaker 1: So yeah, did you come into uh did you come
- 58:09Speaker 1: into working in firearms too? Like? What's your background growing up?
- 58:11Speaker 1: I means you grow up around shooting. Actually, I became
- 58:15Speaker 1: a shooter as an adult. I I became I was
- 58:18Speaker 1: a boy scout where I started shooting, And I grew
- 58:20Speaker 1: up in a family where there there no guns in
- 58:22Speaker 1: the home, and I was I'm the first generation shooter
- 58:24Speaker 1: in in my home. And and I learned how to
- 58:26Speaker 1: shoot at boy scout camp up in New Hampshire and
- 58:29Speaker 1: came home from scant camp and wanted to buy a
- 58:31Speaker 1: gun and my parents didn't so they didn't allow it.
- 58:33Speaker 1: So I didn't buy my first firearm until I was
- 58:35Speaker 1: in college. And now look at me, I've been in
- 58:38Speaker 1: the industry This is the third different gun company for
- 58:40Speaker 1: saying that I've worked for. I've kind of been typecast.
- 58:43Speaker 1: I'm stuck now. I can't I couldn't go do anything else.
- 58:45Speaker 1: And my parents now have been converted their life members
- 58:48Speaker 1: of the n r A and then gun owners and shooters,
- 58:50Speaker 1: and it's just, you know, life takes as neat twists
- 58:52Speaker 1: and turns. But you know, think about all the other
- 58:54Speaker 1: shows that happened in Las Vegas and where would you
- 58:58Speaker 1: rather be? I mean, it beats the heck out of
- 58:59Speaker 1: the humor apliance show or whatever they're doing across town.
- 59:02Speaker 1: Right I could be talking about dishwashers and toasters all
- 59:05Speaker 1: the week and not you know, this is where it's at.
- 59:06Speaker 1: This is where the action is. A good buddy mine
- 59:09Speaker 1: is over at the home builders thing going on right now,
- 59:12Speaker 1: and he's really itching to try to find his way
- 59:14Speaker 1: into this spot. Now, Jason, give us your low down, man.
- 59:18Speaker 1: I'm Jason Nash. I'm the marketing director for our ammunition brands,
- 59:21Speaker 1: so the most commonly known Federal Premium c C I Spear.
- 59:26Speaker 1: We've got a number of different brands under our umbrella,
- 59:28Speaker 1: and it's really exciting to this will be myt This
- 59:31Speaker 1: is my thirteenth shot show, and I have to remind
- 59:33Speaker 1: myself every year how lucky we are. And it doesn't
- 59:36Speaker 1: take long to walk down the halls to realize how
- 59:39Speaker 1: lucky we truly are to be involved in such a
- 59:42Speaker 1: passionate industry. You know, for me, it all started with
- 59:45Speaker 1: grouse hunting with my dad and uh, you know, getting
- 59:48Speaker 1: out in the northern woods in Minnesota and chasing around
- 59:51Speaker 1: these birds that were really hard to hit but challenged
- 59:54Speaker 1: you and and really were exciting. Um. So being part
- 59:57Speaker 1: of that is, like you said, it's it's a dream.
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: Did you when you were growing up, did you think
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: about how you wanted to stay in the uh you know,
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: around hunting products and hunting equipment and that kind of stuff. No,
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: I just wanted to hunt, go out. I just wanted
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: to get out and and enjoy the outdoors, be outside
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: and uh, spend time with friends and family. I didn't
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: really think about it as a career. In fact, I
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: didn't think it was probably an option. So the fact
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: that that I was able to get into this industry
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: and make a good career out of it has been fantastic. Yeah,
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: when I was a kid, like all the guys that
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: wanted to hunt fish all time. We didn't know about occupations.
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: You like, little kids always wanta be fireman. We all
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: want to be game wardens. Where I want to be
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: a mountain man. Uh. But then they told me I
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: was late for that. So everybody was like, I'll be
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: a game word and I'll be uh, you know, like
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: we want to be like a wildlife biologist. Everybody's always
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: like struggling to try to find somebody to be in
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: the outdoors. And then guys I know now that have
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: done that grown up and have into like, you know,
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: found like a livelihood in the outdoor industry. Um, very
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: few of them would have been able to even they
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: wouldn't have known what they were doing existed at the time. Yeah,
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: oh yeah, so let's jump in now. I have over
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: the years, I've been hunting off all with a Savage rifle,
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: and I've owned Savage rifles going way back and and
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: uh from I used to I used to be a
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: fur trapper and I had one of the uh what
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: I thought was a very early form of the old
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: two twenty gauge over under they had the trap door.
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: I don't even know if they still have, like that
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: they had that aluminum plate model twice four was it
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: had like aluminum plate you could slide a bunch of
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: twenty two shells and a couple of twenty games shotgun
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: shells into the stock with an aluminum plate on there. Yeah,
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: we always had that and then had a lot of
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: like growing up, always had Stephen's shotguns. And then I
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: bought my first Savage, like my first new Savage rifle
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: and I think two thousand nine, and it was like
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: I grew up. My dad started me out shooting right handed.
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: I was always weirdly ambidextrous as a kid, and he
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: eventually realized I had a dominant left eye. Like if
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: you're ever curious, like if you have a dominant right
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: yar donant left eye? Yeah, just act like you're doing
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: a one eye aim with your thumb, Like, so pick
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: some object and you're gonna aim your thumb at it um.
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: You'll find a lot of guys that shoot right handed.
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: When you do that, test the wind up closing it
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: right eye and wanting to look left eye. And my
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: old man did that with me and realized I was
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: left handed. So I had to relearn how to shoot
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: a bow, re learn how to shoot a gun all
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: left handed, but I did it all with right handed
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: stuff because I never had anything that wasn't a hand
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: me down firearm until I was in my thirties. I
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: didn't own a left handed rifle until I was in
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: my thirties. And when I did buy a left handed rifle,
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: I bought a Savage Weather Warrior rifle, and I would
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: shoot and immediately drop down, throw the rifle in too
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: my other hand and try to work the bolt on
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: my right hand. I had to totally relearn, you know,
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: on a left handed firearm over the years I've owned.
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: You know, I've owned and shot so many different guns,
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: and I've had and I have and do on a
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: handful of like very high end custom rifles that I
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: would never really be in the situation to buy um
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: if I didn't. You know, we're kind of the work
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: I do and get stuff the way I get it,
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: And so oftentimes guys are like, we'll talk about hunting
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: and they'll be like, yeah, your guns five thousand dollars
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: or six thousand dollars, And I was gonna be like, yeah,
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: it is, but it doesn't. It's just that's the way
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: I have and That's that I found so cool about
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: hunting with Savage rifles and shooting with them is the
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: fact that people can afford it, right, It's a good
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: gun you can buy and out of the box they
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: just shoot in a way I can't explain. Maybe you got.
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: It's like we've now messed around, like just in recent
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: months me be honestly sitting here off for real quiet,
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: we've messed around. How many have we shot like out
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: of the box, five or six, oh maybe ten big
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: game rifles out of the box, shooting the box rifle
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: with the box ammo and just shooting tight ask groups
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: I mean, and shooting like submoa groups out of the box.
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: And it's just nothing else I found. It's like that.
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: I was talking to a buddy mine who works in
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: the firearms industry and he was saying, Yeah, the reason
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: that a lot of the custom guys get piste at
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: Savage because Savage rifles just do what they wanted to do,
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: what they're trying to do, but they do it for
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: a tenth of the money. You know. You know, it's
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: really interesting to say that that's what we're known for,
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: is that lights out accuracy and and it's just that's
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: that's our trademark. And it's interesting you say that about
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: Gunsmith's because when we're looking to innovate and we're looking
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: to come up with things like the accy trigger and
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: and things that have really put us on the map
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: like that, we've never looked to our competitors for inspiration
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: on what to do next. We we looked at gunsmith's.
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: What what is a gunsmith doing to a rifle to
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: make it more accurate, to make it fit better, to
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: make it, you know, and make it perform better. And
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: then how can we do that on a factory basis?
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: I mean, we can't glass bed and action. So we
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: came up with the Akey stock, which is more of
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: a drop in solution to glass bedding and and same
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: thing as just you know, long ago, triggers were horrible.
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: They were they were heavy and and and because the
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: lawyers kind of one out at every gun company, but
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: you gotta have a heavy trigger to be safe. So
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: we came out with a gun with a trigger job
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: that was safe. And so really those guys, as mad
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: as they are with us, there are inspiration, you know,
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: because everything they do is because a gun isn't performing
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: the way it should so. If so, if if a
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: gun smith can make it happen once, we can make
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: it happen hundreds of thousands of times. If we're creative.
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: We've figured out and figure out how to make a
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: factory gun and shoot like a custom gun. And I'm
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: sure there's a lot of people here that have had
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: that can share the same experience you've had. I mean,
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: just where they shot alongside a buddy that had a
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: multi thousand dollar expensive gun and just hung right with
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: him shooting them group for group, the expensive gun, the
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: guns just shoot. There's a gun writer that I've always
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: admired a lot um, Chuck Hawks and he and he
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: was got one of the first guys I started reading about.
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: It was really always celebrating, like, you know, just the
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: unrivaled accuracy of coming out of the box with it.
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: And what I like to buy is a lot of
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: people come to me in there, you know, they'll ask you,
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: like what I need to do to shoot this and
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: shoot that kind of groups and um, in a way,
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: I almost feel silly for in the last you know,
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: the recent years, how much time I spent messing with
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: the handloads and messing with guns, and I enjoy that
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: kind of stuff. But it is like refreshing to be
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: able to have something you just go out and tell
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: people it's like gonna work, you know, flat out of
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: the box. Um, when you can, you explain, like explain
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: to things, Explain what an ACU trigger is, because I
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: think that that's something that's not well understood. And when
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: when he talks about a heavy train and light tuggar,
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: like a lot of things. You'll buy a new rifle
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: and it might have it might take like five pounds
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: or seven pounds or even on something like a nine
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: pound trigger pull. It means you have to apply obviously,
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: like nine pounds of pressure to get the thing to
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: go bang, and you lose all kinds of accuracy by
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: exerting that amount of forest on it because you're manipulating,
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: you're you know, you're moving the guns sideways when you
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: do it. So explain with that how how that thing works,
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: because that's kind of something I find it. Like a
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: lot of guys who aren't familiar with it, we'll look
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: at it. They'll be like, what the hell is that? Yeah,
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: why does that matter? Yeah, So the ACCU trigger really
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: addresses the weakest link in a firearm, which is the shooter. Right.
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: We could do everything we can think of to make
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: the rifle more accurate, but if the shooter can't tap
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: into the mechanical accuracy of the firearm, it's no good.
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: And it's like exactly what you said. If you have
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: a heavy trigger, anybody can line up the crosshair on something,
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: but how do you how do you fire that gun
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: without disrupting that cross hair? And it takes a light
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: trigger to be able to do that, be able to
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: fire it without disrupting a cross here, well, how do
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: you do that while being safe? So if you look
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: at an ACU trigger, it's got a regular trigger and
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: it's got a little blade in the middle of the
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: trigger that we called the an acur release, and that
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: that blocks the trigger. And the best way to explain,
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: especially you know an audio where I can't make gestures
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: in my hands or anything. But if you've ever fired
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: a single action revolver, you know there's a half cock
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: position and there's a full cock position. You can fire
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: that gun from the full cock position. Um, And if
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: you have that gun and cockton and and you drop it,
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: it'll fall all the half cock right, So we have
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: internally within an accu trigger that that blade blocks the
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: trigger from accidentally discharging. So in order to have that
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: light trigger, we have very minimal trigger and sere engagement
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: to make that trigger light. But if you were to
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: drop that gun, a loaded gun hard enough yet, you
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: would hear a click, and that's the accue trigger falling
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: to half cock. It's not you know, on a on
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: a lesser gun, you're gonna hear a bang instead of
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: a click. So it still has that light triggers here engagement,
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: and it still sears off if it's treated harshly when
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: it's cocked, but it adds to the safety into the system.
- 1:08:35Speaker 1: So the science of a lighter, crisper trigger is is
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: old science. The safety aspect of it catching itself and
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: clicking instead of banging, that's that's the essence of the
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: accue trigger, and that allows the shooter to tap into
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: all that mechanical actually in the rifle. You know that
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: that accutugger deal is one of the things that first
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: drew me to it is because when we're out filming,
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: we got a lot of activity going on or around
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: you on a hunt. You know, we got like you
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: got camera guys and people moving around. It's how it's
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: like if you and your buddy or out, you kind
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: of always know where everybody is, you know, But in
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: that kind of situation, it's you know, like safety is
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: always in my mind because you just it's just like
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: harder to control. And I like that just that extra element,
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: you know, of just feel better about it in those
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: moments when you are ready to fire. It just like
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: an extra level of control, And it just it's comforting
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: to me, you know, And once you get used to
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: I don't have any problem with it. So I wanna
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: I want to go back to uh Mr Nash here.
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: Can you talk a little bit about how you guys
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: handle the ammunition into things? Yeah? Absolutely, I mean and
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: and just like Bill talks about all the technology that
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: goes into building a gun and building a better trigger,
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: We've got a team of people back at the factory
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: who are constantly looking to innovate ammunition and and give
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: people more confidence when they're in the field. You know,
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: sometimes ammunition is is kind of a last minute purchase decision.
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: I'm going hunting, I forgot I got to pick up
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: some ammo. But to have true success, you really need
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: to think about the one thing that's going to touch
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: the animal out of your gun and that and that's
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: the bullet. I mean, with all the hunting that you've done, Um,
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: you know how important it is because you're not always
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: gonna have a perfect shot. The animal may turn, um,
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: it may start walking from being in a in a
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: stale position. So having a bullet that's built strong enough
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: to withstand um bone, heavy tissue, not a perfect angle. Um,
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: that's what we're we really focus on. And then of
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: course putting it where you aim it, which is a
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: combination of the right gun, the right preparation, and the
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: right bullet. Yeah, that's interesting point you bring up, man,
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: because I find it a conversation always had with people's.
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: People are always talking about like like all the best
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: case scenarios you know, and haven't been able to do
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: quite a lot of big game hunting. I find it, uh,
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: the best case scenarios don't happen quite as often as
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: you'd like. And I think that people need to be
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: better about what when the trying to select ammunition, type
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: of what caliber they're gonna use, what types of distances
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: they're comfortable shooting, and stop thinking about all these like
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: perfect broadside right behind the shoulder situations and started asking yourself, well,
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: what's gonna happen when things don't go exactly as I plan?
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: And then I tooled up and fit it up for
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: for those kinds of things. You know, I think it's
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: like super easy. Yeah, if you can, if everything's perfect
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: and you hit everything just right, sure you could. You know,
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: you could be hunting big game with a you know,
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: subpar stuff. But those things when things go south and
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: go bad, which happens just a lot, man, And I've
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: always trying to advocate the people to to to plan
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: on that and and you know, stick with adequate calibers,
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: stick with good ammunition, practice a lot of restraints on
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: shots you're gonna take because you're think you're gonna make
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: always factor. And like when things are gonna go bad,
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: do you guys find like when you're building Ammo, do
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: you somehow, Taylor you'r amal to your own brand of rifles?
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: I mean, like when you're building you old the federal
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: premium stuff, taking like this's gonna shoot great out of
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: a Savage rifle. Is that's what you think about? Well,
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: as closely as we work with Savage, and we've had
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: a couple of recent innovations that made from the Savage side,
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: and we've partnered with them on the A seventeen UM
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: and some other guns that where we can truly custom
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: fit to work perfectly out of that platform. So that's
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: a great advantage of being part of the same you know,
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: family of seventeen Yeah, exactly. But but we also want
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: to make sure that if people happen to be crazy
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: and not shoot a savage, UM, it's not the whole market.
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: It's not the whole market. So so we got to
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: make sure that we take all the most popular gun
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: platforms out there and test our products in those platforms
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: also so that we know that we've got the best
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: quality product out there that's gonna perform no matter what
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: platform you choose. But yeah, have having these guys part
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: of the same family has been great because we can
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: look forward and say, all right, how can we better
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: meet the needs of hunters and shooters going ahead, and
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: and how can we partner on that? You know what
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: I asked you one last quick thing? Here are they
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: you know, like, is the AMMO shortage thing? Like is
- 1:13:10Speaker 1: it done now? Kind of in your guys mind? Well,
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: I mean, like what was it well. Obviously, rim fire
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: is a question we get asked about a lot, right,
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: and um, it's a popular caliber for people getting started
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: in the sport. They're more and more great platforms out
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: there to shoot from. UM And when you think about it,
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: used to be that you could only shoot maybe ten
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: rounds out of a clip. Now there are clips out
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: there that whole thirty fifty. They're different. Are style platforms
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: available for twenty two And let's face it's fun to
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: shoot right for a new shooter. It's not intimidating because
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: there's not a lot of recoil UM And so there's
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: a combination of factors. It's it's popularity, it's more people
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: coming into the sport, and um, there's also some people
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: that are stuffing it in their basements. We know that too.
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: You know, in a way it became a self perpetuating
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: thing because I always just took for grand Land. Like
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: I think of the real shortage of twenty two shells
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: that was going on, It felt like, let me back up,
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: because I always took for grand When you just wanted
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: some of you bought them, right, so you buy fifty
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: of them or buy a thing of them, and then
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: one day someone's like, oh, you know, there's it's hard
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: to find. It prompted me to start doing the like
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: making the problem worse by responding to that by problem,
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: like by getting it. You know. So when people say like, oh,
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: it's limited to two boxes and I only wanted one,
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: I'd be like, oh, there by two. So pretty soon
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: I had massive amounts of the stuff laying around because
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: it was like this self feeding thing, you know where
- 1:14:40Speaker 1: I think that in some ways that kind of prompting along.
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: But you guys had to get this pounded with questions
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: about stuff like that. We did absolutely, and you know,
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: it's it's tough because you want to have demand for
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: your product, but you also don't want people to be
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: dissatisfied because they can't get it. So we you know,
- 1:14:56Speaker 1: we're a hundred percent committed to building more products. Federal
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: and c c I are are kicking out more rim
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: fire product than we ever have and and we're confident
- 1:15:04Speaker 1: that it's going to be more readily available and I
- 1:15:07Speaker 1: think we're seeing that already. Um So, but it's been
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: an interesting time. A man, does anybody have uh, who
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: who has any We got a question that would be, uh,
- 1:15:15Speaker 1: they want to ask right now, anyone if Now, we
- 1:15:18Speaker 1: got a bunch of people have come in on like
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: social media with questions. I thought I would stick some
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: of to you guys. Yeah, anyone one you'd like in anyway?
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: Have you seen the question pick some out? Has any
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: we got anything? Go ahead? Like six millimeters six? Yeah,
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: restate the question to if you would that's a gun
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: in an animal question? Right? Yeah? So he asked about
- 1:15:50Speaker 1: the popularity of six millimeter and six point five and yeah,
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: we're seeing that absolutely, and we've actually introduced a couple
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: of new loads in our American Eagle product line in Federal.
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: So we're we're excited to expanded to meet the demand
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: of that platform. It's a very accurate um caliber and
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: we're we're excited to offer more options. You know, when
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: that someone rolled in and I've heard that, I've struggled
- 1:16:13Speaker 1: with because I don't fully understand it is when it
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: comes to like when you get a Brandy rifle out
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: of the box, everybody's got a different theory about the
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: breaking process and the cleaning process. Like some guys be
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: like shoot it once, clean it, shoot it twice, clean it,
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: shoot three times, clean it, until you're up to ten times.
- 1:16:32Speaker 1: Some guys are like, I shoot it, I clean it,
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: never clean it again. I mean, all these different versions
- 1:16:38Speaker 1: on it, and you're make a game time decision just
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: by like putting a passion and seeing what looks at
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: what's your recommendation on someone with a brand new thing
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: out of the box, Like he takes it out of
- 1:16:47Speaker 1: the box, what should be his regimen? And then on
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: top of that, once that breaking processes to however you
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: define the end of it, what is your recommendation on
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: like cleaning the board. It's funny. I got a guy
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: right here in the booth. His name is stand Pate.
- 1:17:02Speaker 1: He's a He's competes in F class, which is a
- 1:17:04Speaker 1: thousand yard competition, multiple time national Champion, World Champion F
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: Class shooter, and I was I was staying alongside him
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: one year at the n r A show and somebody
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: asking that exact same question, and his answer was, I
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: just take him on, shoot him. Yeah, you know, you'll
- 1:17:20Speaker 1: you'll get better accuracy out of a clean boar than
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: you will out of a dirty boar. But as far
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: as what prep it needs to achieve that maximum accuracy,
- 1:17:30Speaker 1: we just really haven't seen anything definitive that shows us
- 1:17:33Speaker 1: to any process one or the other has any effect
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: on the long term accuracy of that product. The way
- 1:17:38Speaker 1: it's broken in just that the you know, after it's
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: broken in, however it's broken in. Clean guns is gonna
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: shoot better than a dirty gun. Yeah, I've got guys,
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: uh who you know say that they clean every twenty rounds.
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: Guys say they clean every thousand. You're tipping more in
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: the other tipping in the ladder direction. I mean, that's
- 1:17:55Speaker 1: an extreme but I hate cleaning guns. So and I'm
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: I'm not a good enough shooter that the difference between
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: clean board dirty board really affects me that much because
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: you have to have the ability to tapp into that
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: extra beta accuracy. But yeah, you know, it really depends
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: on that. You know what, copper filing is an issue,
- 1:18:12Speaker 1: and copper filing does contribute to opening up the groups. So,
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: and that's different by load, right, if you're shooting a
- 1:18:18Speaker 1: really hot, really fast, it's gonna foul more, where some
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: of these lower pressure coroptions they don't foul as much.
- 1:18:23Speaker 1: So I think you just need to kind of work
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: out your process and monitor your own accuracy. And but
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: me personally, I'm not cleaning anymore than I have to.
- 1:18:32Speaker 1: Here's no we get a lot from people, is uh.
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: Guy wondered about someone who's mentioned copper filing. Guy wondered about,
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: you know, copper versus lead ammo? So what what I've
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: done in my own person long as I tended to
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: use like you know what you call non toxic or
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: solid monolithic stuff in places where like in California where
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: have the condo recovery area, I've used it there, but
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: I find it more and more guys, like a lot
- 1:18:59Speaker 1: of guys just who are looking for just performance and ballistics,
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: you know, are going now and shooting copper. How much
- 1:19:06Speaker 1: do you see, like when you look at the the
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: whole realm of people buying Aima, how much you see
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: that transition happening? How much is it just because I
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: hang out with guys who kind of obsessed about this
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: stuff a lot? Well, we definitely are seeing more popularity.
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: We've we've added trophy copper to our premium line of
- 1:19:23Speaker 1: products and uh introduced here at the Shot Show. We've
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: got a new one power shot copper that's more of
- 1:19:27Speaker 1: a mid priced copper bullet for those who want to
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: shoot it. Um. You know what we've always been about
- 1:19:33Speaker 1: is offering as many options for people as possible for
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: those who want to shoot or have to shoot, uh,
- 1:19:39Speaker 1: certain types of bullet construction, we have that capability, um,
- 1:19:45Speaker 1: and others who who are tried and true lead bullet
- 1:19:48Speaker 1: guys can shoot those two and and the key for
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: us as we we push weight retention on bullets. So
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: when when you're hunting, shooting big game, fusion is our
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: our deer hunting ammunition that's got it's a bonded process
- 1:20:01Speaker 1: fuse jacket to the core that holds together really well
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: so you don't get a lot of fragmentation. Um. So
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: we're again technologically advanced ammunition and options for everybody. And
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: copper bullets shoot really well too. I mean we you
- 1:20:15Speaker 1: can get some great accuracy out of them. But but
- 1:20:19Speaker 1: do you find that that's like a fast growing segment.
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: It is gaining popularity. Um, We've we've seen some good
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: acceptance of our trophy copper line, but there's always gonna
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: be a market for for the lead core bullets. Also. Yeah,
- 1:20:35Speaker 1: I think in some ways, like a lot of that
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: comes with what you're familiar with and um, yeah, man,
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: just like you know, like like the bonded lead stuff.
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: I just have always just trusted it and used it,
- 1:20:46Speaker 1: just had great results hunting with it. You know, um,
- 1:20:50Speaker 1: what else you got any more good ones? I'll be
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: on time. Man, we're getting kind of overtime. You know,
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: we've still got thirty minutes. Oh no, no for this portion.
- 1:20:58Speaker 1: Oh um. I like the budget versus uh match grade
- 1:21:05Speaker 1: or hunting loads if they want to touch on that. Yeah,
- 1:21:08Speaker 1: so here's the guys, like, can you discuss the round
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: to round performance of practice or budget am o versus
- 1:21:15Speaker 1: match grade or hunting loads? You want to take that
- 1:21:17Speaker 1: one on well, as Bill can attest to and and
- 1:21:21Speaker 1: a lot of people. Obviously, it depends on the gun.
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: You know, different guns like different bullet styles, different grain weights.
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: So we always encourage people to try a number of
- 1:21:30Speaker 1: different bullets, another number of different products and see what
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: works best. But um, you know, we we pride ourselves
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: on making quality ammunition no matter the price point. But
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: you get better features. It's like buying a luxury vehicle.
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: You get leather seats, you get a moon roof, you
- 1:21:47Speaker 1: get heated seats if you're if you're in the north. Um,
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: but you know it's really you get what you pay for.
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: And what you pay for with top quality premium ammunition
- 1:21:57Speaker 1: is better accuracy, more stringent ality control, and then you
- 1:22:01Speaker 1: also get features like on our trophy bonded tip product,
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: you get a boat tail that in a in a
- 1:22:06Speaker 1: tip that increase the ballistic performance of it. And you
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: also get weight retention so that if you do happen
- 1:22:12Speaker 1: to hit the shoulder bone when you're trying to to
- 1:22:14Speaker 1: hit the vitals right behind it, it's gonna pass through
- 1:22:17Speaker 1: and it's gonna hit the vitals. So you well, you
- 1:22:19Speaker 1: don't want to have happen, is uh, you know, if
- 1:22:22Speaker 1: you're shooting a trophy of a lifetime, buy a cheaper
- 1:22:25Speaker 1: AMMO and have it fail on you. Just to kind
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: of pile on what Jason said. Here, I'm the gun guy.
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: I'll tell you straight up, don't put crap AMMO in
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: your Savage rifle. You will you will not be impressed. Um,
- 1:22:38Speaker 1: you know, and sometimes you know, from a marketing standpoint,
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: we want to trouble with that because we everywhere we
- 1:22:42Speaker 1: go we say accuracy, accuracy, accuracy, and when we talk
- 1:22:44Speaker 1: about the one shot, one kill and all that, and
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: then every one while not a lot, every one while
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: send a gun back and say this gun isn't accurate,
- 1:22:50Speaker 1: it's not grouping whale. And you know, say they send
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: at three oh weight, I know that, I know the load.
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: They're gonna test that customer's rifle. I know what they're
- 1:22:56Speaker 1: gonna shoot, uh grain Federal Gold medal to see if
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: that's an accurate rifle and our service Problemill shoot it
- 1:23:03Speaker 1: and we'll send a gun back to the guy with
- 1:23:05Speaker 1: a target and go, you got an m O a
- 1:23:07Speaker 1: gun here at shot point eight, you know, And and
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: they got well, I want to shoot like that with
- 1:23:12Speaker 1: the crap amo. It's just not the way it works,
- 1:23:15Speaker 1: you know. And I'll tell you, as a gun guy,
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: you know if you you will not be satisfied with
- 1:23:18Speaker 1: your rifle if you if you don't put good quality
- 1:23:21Speaker 1: AMMO in it. Um from an accuracy standpoint and also
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: from a just a terminal standpoint, I've never killed a
- 1:23:27Speaker 1: single deer with a rifle. I've killed everyone with a bullet,
- 1:23:32Speaker 1: all right. So I think of all the expense you
- 1:23:34Speaker 1: go through a hunting licenses and travel and all that,
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: you know, at the least expensive part of your trip
- 1:23:41Speaker 1: is going to determine your success or failure of that trip.
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: Just as much as the expensive part. So you know,
- 1:23:46Speaker 1: don't don't spend all that money on a savage and
- 1:23:48Speaker 1: a nice scope and all that, and then you'll practice
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: with the cheaper amo. Fine, but you know, don't you know?
- 1:23:54Speaker 1: And I don't. I'm not a bullistician, you know, I don't.
- 1:23:56Speaker 1: I don't you know all those deer I killed and
- 1:24:00Speaker 1: what would have happened if I had shot cheaper ram
- 1:24:01Speaker 1: a lot of them, I don't know. I don't want
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: to know. I don't want to leave that to chance.
- 1:24:05Speaker 1: I've personally inject enough variables into that equation through my
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: own lack of skill that I just want to cross
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: that off a listen, not worry about it. Yeah, that
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: that's That's a good point, mate, because like all the
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: shooting I do, and some of them a recreational shooter,
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: but all the shooting that I do is basically like
- 1:24:20Speaker 1: inspired by the fact that I'm going honey, you know,
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: So I'm like I spent a lot of time at
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: the range. I'm like experimenting with things, seeing how things work.
- 1:24:29Speaker 1: I'm never looking for just to buy some case of
- 1:24:33Speaker 1: subgrade dirty stuff that I can run through my things,
- 1:24:36Speaker 1: because to me, that's not adding to my knowledge of
- 1:24:39Speaker 1: my tool. You know, it's not adding my knowledge of
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: what I'm capable of doing. But I do think a
- 1:24:44Speaker 1: good thing for guys who are trying to mess around
- 1:24:46Speaker 1: the rifle and find out is my rifle up to
- 1:24:47Speaker 1: the job or not? As an accurate not you gotta
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: shoot a handful of things. Just try a couple of
- 1:24:52Speaker 1: different things from a company you trust, and and and see,
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: because there can be a radical difference, even right down
- 1:24:57Speaker 1: to shooting twenty two is just different weights. You know,
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: on you might try like a thirty six grain, thirty
- 1:25:02Speaker 1: eight grain, different multiplosities and you get huge differences some guns.
- 1:25:05Speaker 1: It's it's idiosyncratic. Some guns just shoot them something's better
- 1:25:10Speaker 1: than others. And you really without trying three or four
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: different things, just small differences. I mean, like you know,
- 1:25:15Speaker 1: bullet weight stuff like that. You really have no idea
- 1:25:18Speaker 1: what your thing is capable of. Because I've seen groups
- 1:25:20Speaker 1: shrink out from three inch groups down to one inch
- 1:25:22Speaker 1: groups just by going from one box Ammo to another
- 1:25:26Speaker 1: box Ammo. And it's something I think a lot of
- 1:25:28Speaker 1: guys overlook or they just like buy some stuff at
- 1:25:31Speaker 1: the store. I have no idea what they're doing. Go
- 1:25:32Speaker 1: out shoot was like this thing, don't shoot, you don't know,
- 1:25:35Speaker 1: you don't know what till you get in there. All right,
- 1:25:38Speaker 1: Uh yeahnny concluding thought I could add to that a
- 1:25:44Speaker 1: little bit, you know, preparing for our hunt last week
- 1:25:46Speaker 1: we went down to Mexico to hunt cous deer and uh,
- 1:25:50Speaker 1: I was shooting a one ten and in two seventy
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: and you guys sent me. I think, uh, your ballistic tips, um,
- 1:25:58Speaker 1: the nozzle, ballistic tips, the um, the trophy Bonded, and
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: the Sierra the King Yeah, the game King or bonded
- 1:26:08Speaker 1: Barry Clawing, Sierra game King. Yeah. All three of them
- 1:26:13Speaker 1: shot like right at an inch, but the trophy bonded
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: shot like three quarters, you know, and that was three
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: three groups of each you know. So I was like, wow,
- 1:26:21Speaker 1: this is great, you know, and I really got to
- 1:26:23Speaker 1: test it all, which was which was awesome. But um yeah,
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: that's my concluding thought on it. On The last question
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: for you that I saw in there that I think
- 1:26:32Speaker 1: everybody would like to know is if you could just
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: hunt with one rifle right now, what would it be
- 1:26:37Speaker 1: for one caliber? Yeah? I get asked it all the time. Man,
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: It's such a hard question to answer. Um, right now,
- 1:26:46Speaker 1: I've been doing a lot of hunt with with the
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: with the two seventy, so the Savage Weather Warrior in
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: the two seventy Model one sixteen. It's just I don't
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: mean it's so much. It comes down it's like what
- 1:26:57Speaker 1: you know and what you're familiar with. It's just something
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: that it I just have shot a lot and I
- 1:27:03Speaker 1: just know and I'm comfortable with it. Um. I think
- 1:27:08Speaker 1: that this is a few large measure by gun writers
- 1:27:11Speaker 1: and other people. I think there's so much noise out
- 1:27:15Speaker 1: there where people are arguing about the supremacy of of
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: different calibers. It for real world hunting applications are almost indistinguishable,
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: different attributes of them. Uh So, I'm kind of like
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: I realized now, I'm kind of like a you know,
- 1:27:34Speaker 1: like I'm an old curmudgeony guy to still have it
- 1:27:37Speaker 1: to seventy and I have not ventured out. I owned
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: many calibers, but just like something I almost like because
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: I feel like it's like, uh, you know, it's like
- 1:27:46Speaker 1: having a It's like having a campfire. It's like this
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: old comfortable thing that I know well and I have
- 1:27:50Speaker 1: great luck with it. Man if I but if I
- 1:27:52Speaker 1: had to own one if I just like hunt, because
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: I own a wide variety of things, everything from moves
- 1:27:57Speaker 1: down to have alina, I would probably if I just
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: had to have one for real, it's probably like a
- 1:28:04Speaker 1: you know, something in the line of a three mag
- 1:28:07Speaker 1: just something to be like kind of a little bit heavy,
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: you know, a little bit heavy for some applications, maybe
- 1:28:13Speaker 1: a tad in some people's minds, tad life for other applications.
- 1:28:16Speaker 1: That would be my one sweet spot thing right now.
- 1:28:19Speaker 1: Like my hunting arsenal is my two seventy and then
- 1:28:23Speaker 1: with that I shoot you know, one grain bullets. Then
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: I have a thirty caliber rifle that I got that
- 1:28:28Speaker 1: I could shoot one eighties and two d grain bullets
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: for big Alaska stuff. And I feel pretty covered. Concluding
- 1:28:37Speaker 1: thoughts to nice quiver, I mean to seventies been proven
- 1:28:41Speaker 1: for for years and and it speaks again to the
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: quality of the bullet. If you're shooting a trophy bonded
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: tip but not as a partition fusion, and you put
- 1:28:50Speaker 1: the shot in the right spot, that's gonna do the job.
- 1:28:54Speaker 1: And I like to seventy two. I've got a two
- 1:28:55Speaker 1: seventies short mag and of course the thirty six is
- 1:28:59Speaker 1: also a favorite. Know where I'm from and where everybody's from. Yeah,
- 1:29:03Speaker 1: when you say how's the favorite you're from, what, Like
- 1:29:05Speaker 1: I grew up in Michigan, it would be that there
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: was a day and I was very young when I
- 1:29:09Speaker 1: happened when everybody had a thirty thirty. It was like
- 1:29:13Speaker 1: it was like, oh yeah, it's a brush gun. And
- 1:29:15Speaker 1: it was like one day you woke up and everybody
- 1:29:17Speaker 1: in the world shot the thirty ot six. You know,
- 1:29:19Speaker 1: it was just like this thing that happened overnight. Janice
- 1:29:21Speaker 1: is still yeah I shot takes a long Yeah, but
- 1:29:24Speaker 1: it was just like this there's so much regionality to it,
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: and you talk to other guys. I got friends who,
- 1:29:29Speaker 1: you know, brought up in other states. You never touched it.
- 1:29:33Speaker 1: It's just like you had like your region and the
- 1:29:35Speaker 1: guys and your region kind of like spread these little things.
- 1:29:37Speaker 1: I think where that's all that, you know, misinformation and
- 1:29:40Speaker 1: just like ancestral stuff comes from where you just like
- 1:29:42Speaker 1: have these ideas that you're familiar with. Yeah, yeah, absolutely, Yeah, Bill,
- 1:29:47Speaker 1: you got some concluding thoughts. Yeah, I think for me personally,
- 1:29:51Speaker 1: it just especially when hunting, it just comes down to
- 1:29:53Speaker 1: putting in a time on preparation. You know, like you said,
- 1:29:56Speaker 1: it's what you're comfortable with. What you're not gonna be
- 1:29:57Speaker 1: comfortable with something you don't spend time with. So spend
- 1:29:59Speaker 1: some time I'm on the range with your rifle. Spend
- 1:30:02Speaker 1: some time shooting different loads of ammunition so you know
- 1:30:04Speaker 1: your confident that the particular load that you selected is
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: the one that's gonna perform. Be comfortable with your optic,
- 1:30:10Speaker 1: be comfortable with all your gear. For me, I'm just
- 1:30:13Speaker 1: maybe I'm just too simple minded. I can't think about
- 1:30:15Speaker 1: all that stuff when I got it, you know, an
- 1:30:18Speaker 1: animal in front of me. I just I just wanted
- 1:30:19Speaker 1: all that stuff off the list. I don't want to
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: worry about it, and I don't worry about it when
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: I put the time in. Yeah. Man, that's a good point.
- 1:30:26Speaker 1: And it's something that I find myself kind of pound
- 1:30:29Speaker 1: my head and about is there's so many guys out there,
- 1:30:31Speaker 1: and you know, you might just hunt like a couple
- 1:30:33Speaker 1: of days a year. And I feel like even if
- 1:30:35Speaker 1: that's the case, like if that's all your schedule has allout,
- 1:30:37Speaker 1: you need to spend more time with your equipment. I
- 1:30:39Speaker 1: think it's like you have an obligation to yourself, You
- 1:30:41Speaker 1: have obligation to others, You have obligation of the animal,
- 1:30:44Speaker 1: just to get to understand what it is it's going on,
- 1:30:48Speaker 1: how this stuff works. It's an investment, man. And even
- 1:30:51Speaker 1: for the two day a year a hunter, you gotta
- 1:30:52Speaker 1: tab I think you almost gotta have like an annual
- 1:30:55Speaker 1: where we were like a you know, a year round
- 1:30:58Speaker 1: approach to thinking about your kit, thinking about your gear,
- 1:31:00Speaker 1: and thinking about what you're gonna do. Alright, with that,
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: wrap up this part, um me eet your podcast to
- 1:31:07Speaker 1: the next time. Except coming at it from shot show
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: not open to the public, so I can't just say come,
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: you gotta be. You gotta find a way to finagle
- 1:31:16Speaker 1: your way in, uh through some kind of innge. We
- 1:31:18Speaker 1: just encourage that these guys that's coming from me find
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: a way to finage your way in and come and
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: see what's going on in the the outdoor hunting and
- 1:31:27Speaker 1: and and shooting worlds. All right, until next time,
