- 2:31Speaker 3: we're going to do our best to try to reschedule
- 2:33Speaker 3: Larry Pack for a future show. I didn't want to
- 2:36Speaker 3: welcome in John robertson Mountain Mission. No, John, Good morning,
- 2:38Speaker 3: welcome to the show.
- 2:39Speaker 6: Good morning, Thanks for having me.
- 2:41Speaker 3: I haven't talked to a while. How you been man, I've.
- 2:42Speaker 6: Been good, been good.
- 2:44Speaker 3: Just stay busy as always as always, especially as we
- 2:47Speaker 3: head into the the end of the Christmas season, right, yes,
- 2:50Speaker 3: I mean you guys are busy year round there, yeah.
- 2:52Speaker 6: Yeah, we're busy year round, but Christmas starts for us.
- 2:55Speaker 7: About July, as say, August, yeah, yeah, somewhere along and there.
- 3:00Speaker 3: And it is time to start talking about these Christmas
- 3:02Speaker 3: food baskets that you do in the Christmas Food Basket program.
- 3:06Speaker 3: And I know people are saying right now it's not
- 3:08Speaker 3: even Halloween yet, but as you said, in order to
- 3:11Speaker 3: serve as many people as you do and to get
- 3:13Speaker 3: these things out and to get everybody in place, you
- 3:15Speaker 3: literally got to start in July and August to get ready.
- 3:17Speaker 3: So you're up and running with this.
- 3:18Speaker 6: Thing absolutely absolutely.
- 3:20Speaker 7: Last year, just for their Christmas Food Drive alone, we
- 3:24Speaker 7: supplied food to over twelve hundred and fifty five families.
- 3:27Speaker 7: That's all across the Greater Kanaul Valley, twelve hundred and
- 3:29Speaker 7: fifty five families with about one hundred dollars worth of
- 3:33Speaker 7: Christmas food, topped off with the turkey, potatoes, all the trimmings, dessert.
- 3:38Speaker 7: And you know, you don't just run out to the
- 3:41Speaker 7: pantry and pull that stuff off the shelf and throw
- 3:43Speaker 7: it in a box and give it to somebody. It
- 3:45Speaker 7: takes a lot of money, a lot of fundraising, a
- 3:47Speaker 7: lot of volunteers, a lot of people, and a lot
- 3:50Speaker 7: of time to get this together.
- 3:52Speaker 3: How many people are we talking that it takes to
- 3:54Speaker 3: pull this off? Like hundreds? Oh?
- 3:55Speaker 6: Yes, absolutely?
- 3:57Speaker 7: And the day that we distribute the food, we probably
- 4:00Speaker 7: have two hundred volunteers helping us for five to six
- 4:03Speaker 7: hours distribute the food.
- 4:05Speaker 6: So it is.
- 4:06Speaker 7: A we've been doing this for whether. Actually I'll say this,
- 4:12Speaker 7: we this month we turn ninety eight years old at
- 4:15Speaker 7: Mountain Mission.
- 4:16Speaker 3: And you've only been there for a few of those. Right, Yes,
- 4:18Speaker 3: I didn't started. It was not founded by John Roberts,
- 4:21Speaker 3: is what you say? Again, we're talking about John Roberts
- 4:23Speaker 3: of Mountain Mission. Take us through the process. How does
- 4:27Speaker 3: someone end up on the receiving end of the food baskets?
- 4:30Speaker 3: I mean, what is the how? What's the criteria here?
- 4:32Speaker 7: So basically, if a family receives any kind of SNAP
- 4:36Speaker 7: benefits and they live in Kennall County for us our program,
- 4:41Speaker 7: they are automatically qualified. So now we do work with
- 4:45Speaker 7: other agencies to make sure that they're not bouncing from
- 4:48Speaker 7: agency to agency.
- 4:49Speaker 6: So that's very.
- 4:50Speaker 7: Important because we only have a limited amount of resources,
- 4:53Speaker 7: whether it's money or food.
- 4:55Speaker 6: So we have to make sure that we're reaching the
- 4:57Speaker 6: right people.
- 4:58Speaker 7: So they will They can go online, can come in
- 5:00Speaker 7: and fill out an application. There is documentation to prove
- 5:05Speaker 7: that they have they if they have income, then we
- 5:09Speaker 7: want to make sure that their debt to income ratio
- 5:11Speaker 7: is within our guidelines and then.
- 5:14Speaker 6: We qualify them.
- 5:15Speaker 7: They fill out the paperwork, we send them a card
- 5:18Speaker 7: in the mail and that is what we call our
- 5:20Speaker 7: approval card. And December the fourteenth they come through. It's
- 5:24Speaker 7: a drive through process.
- 5:25Speaker 3: They receive the food and what is it actually held at.
- 5:28Speaker 7: Well, The distribution is held at our office at sixteen
- 5:32Speaker 7: twenty seventh Avenue. They're our main office in Charmpston on
- 5:35Speaker 7: the west side, just off of Patrick Street. So it's
- 5:38Speaker 7: we the Charleston p D works with us. We shut
- 5:41Speaker 7: the street down.
- 5:42Speaker 3: You'd have to, I would say, many people coming through.
- 5:44Speaker 7: You have twelve hundred vehicles lined up to come through
- 5:46Speaker 7: in five hours. It takes some good organization and I'm
- 5:50Speaker 7: proud to say that we do a pretty good job
- 5:53Speaker 7: getting people through in a timely manner and make sure
- 5:57Speaker 7: that we're blessing people, not just show them through like
- 6:01Speaker 7: they're a number. We try to treat everybody. We have
- 6:03Speaker 7: the Gideons there giving out Bibles. We have other groups
- 6:06Speaker 7: there giving out information that may be helpful for health
- 6:11Speaker 7: insurance or different things like that that these families mean.
- 6:14Speaker 3: So they're not just receiving the food, they're getting a
- 6:16Speaker 3: little bit of some other things that condicutate them as well,
- 6:19Speaker 3: like you said, with others. That's really good stuff. John
- 6:21Speaker 3: Robertson is here from Mountain Mission. But Dave Allen showing
- 6:23Speaker 3: five any Liebright to you a part by Meeks Realty
- 6:25Speaker 3: Group and Meeks Trust and efficiency are the cornerstones of
- 6:29Speaker 3: their service years of experience, but residential and commercial real estate.
- 6:32Speaker 3: Their team is home the art of delivering results that
- 6:34Speaker 3: exceed expectations. They understand that your property is more than
- 6:37Speaker 3: just a transaction. It's part of your dreams and goals.
- 6:39Speaker 3: When you choose Meeks not getting just real estate expertise,
- 6:42Speaker 3: you're getting a partner you can rely on for a
- 6:44Speaker 3: lifetime of successful investments. Contacted today three zero four to
- 6:47Speaker 3: four zero one one one zero one or visit Meeks
- 6:50Speaker 3: dot us. All right, so how many volunteers. Now, let's
- 6:54Speaker 3: go back to the numbers. How many families we're talking
- 6:55Speaker 3: about again on an average basis.
- 6:57Speaker 6: Probably around eleven to twelve hundred on average.
- 7:00Speaker 3: Okay, And so how many volunteers and where do you
- 7:02Speaker 3: get your volunteers and do you need volunteers?
- 7:04Speaker 7: We always could use volunteers. We could always use volunteers
- 7:08Speaker 7: sorting food, collecting food, organizing the food. But yeah, I
- 7:13Speaker 7: mean through this whole process, a couple hundred volunteers we have.
- 7:17Speaker 7: We have a handful of people that work year round
- 7:20Speaker 7: to help us with this, you know, not just the
- 7:23Speaker 7: actual food direct food services, but raising money. We have
- 7:27Speaker 7: a group of ladies that that work on Christmas items.
- 7:31Speaker 7: They sort items. We have a big Christmas cell which
- 7:33Speaker 7: is coming up in November and we will raise money
- 7:37Speaker 7: from that and that helps us purchase the food.
- 7:40Speaker 8: So we have.
- 7:40Speaker 7: Different things like that. So there's a lot of different
- 7:43Speaker 7: volunteer opportunities. It may not always be directly with the food.
- 7:47Speaker 7: It could be in supporting different phases of the project
- 7:51Speaker 7: as we go through the season.
- 7:53Speaker 3: And I always like to bring it up about volunteers
- 7:55Speaker 3: because there's so many civic groups in the area that
- 7:57Speaker 3: love to get involved with these things. There's so many
- 7:58Speaker 3: church groups. And for our high school kids, they you know,
- 8:02Speaker 3: have to do so many hours of community service in
- 8:05Speaker 3: order to graduate in West Virginia, and I think this
- 8:08Speaker 3: would be a great, great program. There's a lot of
- 8:10Speaker 3: them out there, but it's to be a great one
- 8:11Speaker 3: for the high school kids to get involve Absolutely.
- 8:13Speaker 7: Yeah, we can sign off on their community hours and
- 8:16Speaker 7: it helps them and helps us.
- 8:17Speaker 3: All right, let's talk about this Christmas sale. This is
- 8:19Speaker 3: what I'll always say, and I'll have you on again,
- 8:21Speaker 3: uh in November to talk about the Christmas Sale. But man,
- 8:23Speaker 3: people look forward to this thing.
- 8:25Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 8:25Speaker 7: Absolutely So if I could say this, if if there's
- 8:29Speaker 7: somebody out there in need, you can go to our
- 8:32Speaker 7: Facebook page at Mountain Mission.
- 8:34Speaker 6: In Corporated at a word to our website.
- 8:36Speaker 7: At Mountain Mission dot com and get a link to
- 8:39Speaker 7: the application sign up and we want to we want
- 8:43Speaker 7: to help you, we want to take care of you,
- 8:44Speaker 7: and we want to bless you with this Christmas food.
- 8:47Speaker 7: So the Christmas Sale is going to run in our
- 8:50Speaker 7: activity building, They're adjacent to our main office, uh, November
- 8:54Speaker 7: of the seventh through the ninth. This is we have
- 8:56Speaker 7: a group of we call them Christmas Sells. These ladies
- 8:59Speaker 7: work all year long. They're down there working right now
- 9:02Speaker 7: to sort, organize and price things people take vacation. We've
- 9:07Speaker 7: already had people calling us, Hey, I want to schedule
- 9:09Speaker 7: my vacation to come down and shop, And I think
- 9:12Speaker 7: that's pretty cool.
- 9:13Speaker 3: What kind of things do you have there? Normally?
- 9:15Speaker 7: We have Christmas trees, we have ceramic Nativity scenes, we
- 9:20Speaker 7: have ceramic villages, we have all kinds of home decor
- 9:24Speaker 7: for Christmas wreaths. We had a wreath last year that
- 9:28Speaker 7: was over a five foot in diameter. I mean, it's
- 9:31Speaker 7: just really just about anything that you can imagine comes
- 9:35Speaker 7: through there. And we also have a vintage Christmas section,
- 9:39Speaker 7: so antiques that are Christmas related. We have a whole
- 9:43Speaker 7: collection of that right now that we're trying to connect
- 9:48Speaker 7: with somebody to purchase. And again, all of this money,
- 9:51Speaker 7: it's not that we're just making money to make money.
- 9:53Speaker 7: It goes back to help us buy this food, to
- 9:56Speaker 7: help these families.
- 9:57Speaker 3: John talk about the overall mission up Mountain Mission, Well.
- 10:01Speaker 7: We are again for ninety eight years we have existed
- 10:05Speaker 7: to help people with their temporary need in emergency times,
- 10:10Speaker 7: whether it's someone that has lost a job, a victim,
- 10:14Speaker 7: of domestic violence. It could be you know, a handicapped
- 10:19Speaker 7: person that's on a fixed income. You know, it could
- 10:22Speaker 7: be many many situations in life. During COVID, we our
- 10:26Speaker 7: numbers were out of the I mean they were crazy
- 10:29Speaker 7: because there were so many people struggling. And you know,
- 10:32Speaker 7: it's still happening some. Most of the people have gotten
- 10:35Speaker 7: back on their feet, but you still see it happening some.
- 10:38Speaker 7: But I can't hardly make up anything, any situation that
- 10:42Speaker 7: isn't true that we haven't dealt with. We had a
- 10:46Speaker 7: gentleman that passed away right before Christmas a couple of
- 10:50Speaker 7: years ago, and he left three children and his wife.
- 10:55Speaker 7: He died of a sudden heart attack and he was
- 10:59Speaker 7: the only bread winter. The kids had no Christmas, they
- 11:02Speaker 7: had no food, They had no health insurance after that,
- 11:06Speaker 7: so we stepped in. We helped them for over six
- 11:08Speaker 7: months to get back on their feet, till she found
- 11:11Speaker 7: good employment and got back on their feet. You know,
- 11:14Speaker 7: these kids, you know, they're the victims. They're the silent
- 11:18Speaker 7: victims I call them sometimes. You know, they don't have
- 11:21Speaker 7: a choice in this. They can't get out and get
- 11:23Speaker 7: a job when they're twelve years old. So we need
- 11:26Speaker 7: to step in and help them, and we have to
- 11:28Speaker 7: do a lot of things ahead of time to be ready.
- 11:31Speaker 7: Our pantry can't be bare, our shelves can't be bare.
- 11:34Speaker 7: You know, we buy diapers, we help with baby needs
- 11:38Speaker 7: and different things like that.
- 11:39Speaker 6: But all year long.
- 11:41Speaker 7: We do this, but at Christmas time we try to
- 11:43Speaker 7: step up and do the extra.
- 11:45Speaker 3: All right, give us let's kind of recap here and
- 11:48Speaker 3: give us the information about the Christmas gift baskets. Where
- 11:52Speaker 3: can people apply for them? I know that you said
- 11:55Speaker 3: you have a process and many people will get a
- 11:57Speaker 3: card in the mail if they're eligible, but some people don't.
- 12:00Speaker 3: So take us from the top here, John, give us
- 12:01Speaker 3: all the INFM.
- 12:02Speaker 7: So, if you live in Kannall County and you receive
- 12:05Speaker 7: either SNAP benefits or your income is below a certain
- 12:10Speaker 7: amount depending on how many people live in the family
- 12:14Speaker 7: or living the home, you can go to Mountain Mission
- 12:16Speaker 7: dot com. You can go to Mountain Mission Incorporated on
- 12:19Speaker 7: our Facebook page and pull down an application. You can
- 12:23Speaker 7: stop by our office just off of Patrick Street. There
- 12:26Speaker 7: our back door faces Pow Hardware is back door. A
- 12:29Speaker 7: lot of people know where Power Hardware is, but we're
- 12:31Speaker 7: right there. You can come in sixteen, twenty seventh Avenue.
- 12:35Speaker 7: Call our office A three oh four three four four
- 12:38Speaker 7: three four zero seven and someone will walk you through
- 12:42Speaker 7: the process. We want to make sure everybody has a
- 12:45Speaker 7: good traditional Christmas meal. I like to say that we
- 12:48Speaker 7: help keep the family around the table, create some memories.
- 12:51Speaker 7: Put the phones down. Let's create some memories and enjoy
- 12:56Speaker 7: each other's company.
- 12:57Speaker 3: All right, John, I appreciate you being here. I'll have
- 13:00Speaker 3: you on again. Let's I'll hook up with you later today,
- 13:02Speaker 3: maybe because I know you're a busy guy, to get
- 13:03Speaker 3: you on the schedule to come in to talk about
- 13:05Speaker 3: the Christmas sale. Man, appreciate you. The Dave Allen Show

- 16:19Speaker 3: Murphy is our producer today. Welcome to Steven Allen Adams
- 16:22Speaker 3: of Ogden Newspaper.
- 16:23Speaker 13: Steven, good morning, Good morning Dave, thanks for having me on.
- 16:26Speaker 3: I want to throw this out there. Since we last talked,
- 16:29Speaker 3: you guys have picked up another paper and now you
- 16:31Speaker 3: can read your writings in the Morgantown Dominion Posts.
- 16:33Speaker 13: That is correct. Yeah, officially as of tuesday, I believe
- 16:39Speaker 13: you could see my articles in there about the special
- 16:42Speaker 13: session and all that. So that's another daily newspaper that
- 16:46Speaker 13: we have picked up. Really excited about it.
- 16:49Speaker 3: So let's get back to the special session, if that's
- 16:52Speaker 3: what you want to call it. It was held Monday
- 16:54Speaker 3: for like what twenty minutes at the Capitol. I joked
- 16:56Speaker 3: yesterday with the with the with the jb Acres or
- 16:59Speaker 3: no was with I was talking to you yesterday that
- 17:02Speaker 3: they didn't park in their normal legislative spots. They all
- 17:04Speaker 3: used the meters and the meters were running out, so
- 17:06Speaker 3: that's why they had to get back out. And you
- 17:08Speaker 3: worked at the Capitol, you know how those meters can be.
- 17:10Speaker 3: So your take on the special session?
- 17:14Speaker 13: Oh what what special session? No? I mean, seriously, let
- 17:18Speaker 13: me let.
- 17:18Speaker 3: Me say when I was talking to Delegate Acres yesterday. JB.
- 17:21Speaker 3: Acres was on the show, and he said that was
- 17:24Speaker 3: pretty much what they expected. They didn't think it was.
- 17:26Speaker 3: They were going to be there for days, and that's
- 17:28Speaker 3: good for the taxpayers, you know.
- 17:29Speaker 13: I guess yeah, because they still spent give or take
- 17:32Speaker 13: thirty five thousand dollars Monday. But that's not the lawmaker's fault.
- 17:35Speaker 13: I mean, that's when the governor called him in. They
- 17:37Speaker 13: did the smart thing. We I think Brad had sourcing
- 17:40Speaker 13: and I had sourcing. We knew that they were going
- 17:42Speaker 13: to do what they did. It's a smart move. They
- 17:44Speaker 13: got out some of the easier supplemental appropriations out the door,
- 17:48Speaker 13: some of the kind of mid level stuff that there's
- 17:50Speaker 13: some questions about, went to the House Finance Committee that's
- 17:53Speaker 13: doing the heavy lift and all this stuff. They will
- 17:55Speaker 13: be back Sunday. Actually House Finance will meet two PM.
- 17:59Speaker 13: I belie leave Sunday and they all gabbled back in
- 18:02Speaker 13: at six pace.
- 18:03Speaker 3: This is the interims that were already scheduled.
- 18:05Speaker 13: October legislative interims. But that seems to be the attitude.
- 18:08Speaker 13: No one seems to understand why he didn't just wait
- 18:11Speaker 13: a week now. The governor said on his briefing yesterday
- 18:13Speaker 13: that he didn't. A he said he was gonna call
- 18:15Speaker 13: him in for that Monday, so he did. And two
- 18:18Speaker 13: he didn't want to wait any longer because of the election.
- 18:20Speaker 13: But if the lawmakers were just going to move it
- 18:23Speaker 13: to Sunday and October interims anyway, then why didn't you
- 18:26Speaker 13: just wait?
- 18:27Speaker 3: Yeah? I mean, if if I were driving out of
- 18:29Speaker 3: McDowell County or Berkeley County, you're one of these far
- 18:32Speaker 3: away places from Charleston, I might be a little bit upset,
- 18:34Speaker 3: you know, I'd want something to do, and you can't
- 18:36Speaker 3: go to the town center anymore. It's pretty much dead,
- 18:38Speaker 3: so you got to stick around town, grab something to
- 18:40Speaker 3: eat or something, at least while you're I guess at
- 18:42Speaker 3: least while you're here.
- 18:43Speaker 13: Yeah. Some lawmakers didn't even get until toward the end
- 18:46Speaker 13: of the floor session. I think Joey Garcia, the delegate
- 18:49Speaker 13: of Democratic Delgate out of Marion County, literally got in
- 18:53Speaker 13: for the last couple votes and then they gabbled out
- 18:55Speaker 13: to six pm, so they had to turn around, drive
- 18:57Speaker 13: back up to Pharma.
- 18:58Speaker 3: And then come back again Sunday.
- 18:59Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 19:00Speaker 3: So the governor, Stephen yesterday said that he was hopeful.
- 19:04Speaker 3: That was his words, that a tax cut in some
- 19:08Speaker 3: form will happen. That was his words, hopeful. My guess is,
- 19:13Speaker 3: and you and I talked about this off there as
- 19:14Speaker 3: we speak, there's probably some sort of negotiations going on
- 19:17Speaker 3: back and forth. Where are you on this? What do
- 19:20Speaker 3: you think? Well?
- 19:21Speaker 13: I read Hoppies column this morning, and I sort of
- 19:24Speaker 13: agree with him. He's got a prediction that this special
- 19:28Speaker 13: session will end with no five percent personal income tax cut.
- 19:33Speaker 13: Now I don't make predictions, but I do like to
- 19:36Speaker 13: do scenarios, and I think best case scenario is the
- 19:38Speaker 13: governor gets alas with less than a five percent cut.
- 19:42Speaker 13: I could see two point five percent, I could see
- 19:44Speaker 13: less than that. That's a possibility. The legislation, the proclamation
- 19:48Speaker 13: allows for that. Normally, special session proclamations it's hard to
- 19:52Speaker 13: amend if they really narrowly tailor it. But in this case,
- 19:57Speaker 13: they left some wiggle room for being able to amend it.
- 20:00Speaker 13: I think he either walks out list with less than
- 20:01Speaker 13: five percent, or he walks out with nothing that does
- 20:04Speaker 13: that hurt him politically, you know, in the next month
- 20:07Speaker 13: or so going into the November election. No, I don't
- 20:10Speaker 13: think so, but it's certainly something. If I were Glen Elliot,
- 20:12Speaker 13: the Democratic US candidate, I would beat the governor over
- 20:16Speaker 13: tohead with it, like between now and November five.
- 20:19Speaker 3: Speaking of Glen Elliott, what do you make of the
- 20:21Speaker 3: governor not wanting to debate his Democratic challenge For Glen Elliott.
- 20:26Speaker 13: Well, there's two ways to look at it. From a
- 20:28Speaker 13: selfish media point of view, which is I like debates.
- 20:32Speaker 13: I like being able to have both candidates side by side.
- 20:34Speaker 13: I like being able to compare and contrast views. It
- 20:37Speaker 13: makes for good articles, it makes for good writing and broadcasting,
- 20:42Speaker 13: and it's interesting stuff. You'll learn a lot from it
- 20:45Speaker 13: if you're paying attention to it. From a kind of
- 20:48Speaker 13: a pr candidate point of view, I don't blame Justice
- 20:53Speaker 13: for not wanting to do a debate. He's so far
- 20:55Speaker 13: ahead by most polling, certainly has the most money, and
- 21:00Speaker 13: we'll should see some fundraising stuff in the next week
- 21:03Speaker 13: or so some of that information come out, just to
- 21:05Speaker 13: see how much further ahead he is. He's got every
- 21:08Speaker 13: incentive to not do it, and I don't blame him
- 21:12Speaker 13: for that. Now, of course, we know that the candidates
- 21:14Speaker 13: for governor are now doing debate Republican Attorney General Patrick Morrissey,
- 21:18Speaker 13: Democratic Huntington mayor Steve Williams are doing debate with Metro
- 21:21Speaker 13: News on October twenty ninth. A little different story because
- 21:25Speaker 13: I think their elections are their numbers are a little
- 21:28Speaker 13: closer together. So it makes you you can say, you
- 21:32Speaker 13: can say morris he could also make that same argument.
- 21:34Speaker 13: But in a way, I think it's a different race.
- 21:38Speaker 13: So I think a debate helps them. But I can
- 21:40Speaker 13: understand governor and not wanting to do it well.
- 21:41Speaker 3: And again I've worked on campaigns in the past, been
- 21:44Speaker 3: a part of campaign's, been around it, and I've also
- 21:47Speaker 3: you know, done this for a few years now, and
- 21:50Speaker 3: I understand both sides. I really wish we would have
- 21:54Speaker 3: a debate though, just you know, maybe for selfish media reasons,
- 21:58Speaker 3: you know, gives us some fodder, gives us some audio,
- 22:00Speaker 3: some things to But I but I, but I understand.
- 22:02Speaker 11: Uh.
- 22:02Speaker 3: The Dave Alan Show and five of He LIKEE brought
- 22:04Speaker 3: to you pirted by Mortgan and Morgan, America's largest injury
- 22:06Speaker 3: law firm. When you're injured to visit for the people
- 22:09Speaker 3: dot Com speaking of the governor, and then we can
- 22:12Speaker 3: move on to some numbers because I love talking numbers.
- 22:16Speaker 3: You're you're much better at that than I am. Don't
- 22:19Speaker 3: high school, I'd be surprised. I do find it interesting, though,
- 22:23Speaker 3: that the governor Stephen has declared the race over. I mean,
- 22:26Speaker 3: he said in about the debate, he said, no, why
- 22:29Speaker 3: would I want to do that? I'm paraphrasing, why would
- 22:31Speaker 3: I want to do that? The the race is over?
- 22:34Speaker 3: But yet he's still trying to raise money for his campaign.
- 22:37Speaker 3: I mean, editor, you know, and like I said, editors
- 22:41Speaker 3: know here. I think it would take a miracle for
- 22:43Speaker 3: for Glenn Elliott, with all due respect, to beat Jim
- 22:45Speaker 3: Justice in November. He admits on this show when I
- 22:48Speaker 3: had him on two weeks ago. But it's going to
- 22:49Speaker 3: be a very much an uphill climb. But if he's
- 22:53Speaker 3: if the race is already over for the governor, as
- 22:55Speaker 3: he says, why does he need to raise money?
- 22:58Speaker 13: Well, you know the old adage, I mean, you know,
- 23:00Speaker 13: the old yoga barrier barrah ism of it ain't over
- 23:04Speaker 13: till it's over, and you should always run a little
- 23:07Speaker 13: bit scared. Now he's more Justice is more confident than
- 23:09Speaker 13: most as we had seen in that particular briefing where
- 23:12Speaker 13: he said it's over. But let's be honest, I'm sure
- 23:14Speaker 13: behind the scenes they're not going to leave any points
- 23:18Speaker 13: on the table that can't be picked up. So they're
- 23:20Speaker 13: going into fundraise as much as possible, because not only
- 23:23Speaker 13: does the benefit of this campaign, but also that's something
- 23:26Speaker 13: he can shift in the leadership packs and give to
- 23:29Speaker 13: other people. It makes him give some political power just
- 23:33Speaker 13: beyond his vote in the US Senate. So there's reasons
- 23:36Speaker 13: enough to keep doing it. No, I think it doesn't
- 23:39Speaker 13: uphill battle for Glenn Elliott. I've talked with him, I've
- 23:41Speaker 13: shadowed him. He's taken the race very seriously, but as
- 23:45Speaker 13: you said, he understands the demographic.
- 23:49Speaker 3: I mean, Elliott is working. I mean he's out there.
- 23:51Speaker 3: He's out there, really pounding the pavement. He's trying.
- 23:53Speaker 13: It's tough. But nonetheless, yeah, I mean, if you still
- 23:57Speaker 13: got a race, I mean, it ain't over till November fifth.
- 24:00Speaker 3: I mean, I got a couple of texts here and
- 24:01Speaker 3: we'll move on to some revenue numbers. Texas fraud wasted
- 24:05Speaker 3: abuse is a huge problem in state government. I'm so
- 24:07Speaker 3: glad that Governor Justice and the Republican led legislature called
- 24:10Speaker 3: a completely unnecessary and unproductive special session where the agenda
- 24:15Speaker 3: and proposed bills weren't even known or discussed beforehand. They
- 24:18Speaker 3: are tackling the fraud, waste, and abuse like Champs. I
- 24:21Speaker 3: think that was said very tongue in cheek. You pointed
- 24:23Speaker 3: out though, that you really can't blame the legislators for this.
- 24:27Speaker 3: I mean it's not I mean they're called in. They
- 24:29Speaker 3: have to come in, Oh for sure.
- 24:31Speaker 13: I mean, look, there's negotiations that go on between legislative
- 24:34Speaker 13: leadership and the governor for what goes on a special
- 24:36Speaker 13: session calls. They had money to spend. They had when
- 24:39Speaker 13: you combine available surplus and unappropriated moneys for the current
- 24:43Speaker 13: fiscal year, you got more than six hundred million dollars
- 24:46Speaker 13: to appropriate. So they had things that they wanted to do,
- 24:49Speaker 13: including money for water and sewer infrastructure projects, matching dollars
- 24:53Speaker 13: that can be match with federal dollars, things of that nature.
- 24:56Speaker 3: Here's a BMS stuff and fire Department stuff I think
- 24:58Speaker 3: on the table.
- 24:59Speaker 13: Yeah, some of it could be called pet projects, which
- 25:01Speaker 13: the governor said he didn't want to do, even though
- 25:02Speaker 13: there are some pet projects on there statues in the rotunda.
- 25:06Speaker 13: Maybe not needed, but still that's one of the bills.
- 25:09Speaker 13: But yeah, some of this is within negotiation power to legislature.
- 25:14Speaker 13: But ultimately, whatever the governor puts on there is what
- 25:16Speaker 13: the governor puts on there. If he calls it and
- 25:18Speaker 13: puts the things he wants on it, that's what they
- 25:20Speaker 13: gotta consider. Now they can vote yes and they can
- 25:22Speaker 13: vote no, but it's a little out of their control.
- 25:25Speaker 3: All right. So the revenue numbers Stephen released yesterday, and
- 25:28Speaker 3: again I do if you tuned in top of the show,
- 25:31Speaker 3: I said I had Larry Pack scheduled to be on
- 25:33Speaker 3: the show. He got called into a meeting. Completely understandable.
- 25:35Speaker 3: Try to get Larry on the show maybe one day
- 25:37Speaker 3: next week. So about the revenue numbers, what's what's your
- 25:41Speaker 3: take on.
- 25:42Speaker 13: Well, depends on how you're looking at it. If you're
- 25:44Speaker 13: used to us getting you know, record breaking surpluses, monthly
- 25:48Speaker 13: surpluses into ye surpluses, well it ain't great. If you're
- 25:52Speaker 13: one of these people that wants us to spend what
- 25:54Speaker 13: we bring in, which is normally a pretty conservative concept.
- 25:59Speaker 13: We're doing our all right. I mean we came in
- 26:01Speaker 13: about two point twenty five percent above revenue estimates. We
- 26:04Speaker 13: came in at five hundred and sixty seven point seven
- 26:07Speaker 13: million dollars in the general revenue fund for September. We've
- 26:11Speaker 13: got about a one point four million dollar surplus as
- 26:15Speaker 13: a result of that. Now there's some fudging of the
- 26:18Speaker 13: numbers going on. It would have been interesting for you
- 26:21Speaker 13: to have Larry Pack in here today because we took
- 26:23Speaker 13: some money out of a personal income tax reserve fund
- 26:27Speaker 13: in August. In the July and August in order to
- 26:30Speaker 13: pay some bills and do some refunds and stuff. We've
- 26:33Speaker 13: paid that money back in but as a result that
- 26:36Speaker 13: kind of makes our numbers look even better. It looks
- 26:38Speaker 13: like we're now about fourteen million dollars into black, but
- 26:44Speaker 13: it's also in reality, based on our collections, we're not
- 26:48Speaker 13: really fourteen We're closer to about one point four million.
- 26:51Speaker 13: It's good, it's you want it to stay at estimates.
- 26:54Speaker 13: Some means the estimates are good, but it's not, you know,
- 26:58Speaker 13: it's just the question is is it sustainable for a
- 27:00Speaker 13: future five percent income?
- 27:02Speaker 3: And I think Steven, I think that's where a lot
- 27:04Speaker 3: of the pause is coming from. A lot of the
- 27:05Speaker 3: legislators on both the Republican and Democrat side that's why
- 27:09Speaker 3: you had seen and even we talked about Patrick Morrissey.
- 27:12Speaker 3: Even Morrissey was asked for his take on it, and
- 27:14Speaker 3: he even came up and said, you know, we just
- 27:17Speaker 3: kind of and I hate to keep using this old adage,
- 27:19Speaker 3: but pump the brakes a little bit and say, Okay,
- 27:22Speaker 3: this would be great. Nobody wants to pay more taxes.
- 27:25Speaker 3: We all want more money, you know, back in our
- 27:27Speaker 3: pockets and our bank accounts and whatever. But we've got
- 27:31Speaker 3: to really look at making sure that we that we
- 27:34Speaker 3: can do this.
- 27:35Speaker 13: Well, let's take a look at the math really really quick.
- 27:37Speaker 13: Larry pac told me back in July that for every
- 27:40Speaker 13: one percent of personal income tax rate that you cut,
- 27:43Speaker 13: it's about twenty three million dollars. So there's been different
- 27:46Speaker 13: numbers spandied about for how much a five percent PIT
- 27:49Speaker 13: cut would would be. I put it about one fifteen million.
- 27:53Speaker 13: If you take a look at available surplus money and
- 27:56Speaker 13: available unappropriate moneies that we have, even when you factor
- 27:59Speaker 13: in the special session bills that have price tags on them,
- 28:03Speaker 13: we have the money in the short term to pay this.
- 28:05Speaker 13: And keep in mind tax years are different than fiscal years,
- 28:07Speaker 13: so in reality we're paying if this goes into effect
- 28:10Speaker 13: in January. We're paying for it for half of a
- 28:13Speaker 13: fiscal year before we get into the next fiscal year
- 28:15Speaker 13: when the full cost of one hundred and fifty million
- 28:17Speaker 13: dollars would go into effect. Can we pay for this now,
- 28:20Speaker 13: this five percent personally cup tax cut?
- 28:23Speaker 8: Yes.
- 28:23Speaker 13: The question going forward for the next governor and the
- 28:26Speaker 13: legislature in twenty twenty five, who will be working on
- 28:28Speaker 13: the next fiscal year budget for twenty twenty six, is
- 28:31Speaker 13: can we afford that going forward? One time money is sure,
- 28:35Speaker 13: we can do it right now, but can we do
- 28:37Speaker 13: it going forward? And that's the question.
- 28:39Speaker 6: All right?
- 28:40Speaker 3: I want to ask you a couple of quick things
- 28:41Speaker 3: before we let you go. And I got a text
- 28:42Speaker 3: one kid, did you have to catch the vice presidential
- 28:44Speaker 3: debate last night? Because, full disclosure, I did not. I
- 28:47Speaker 3: was in Huntington for the Broadcasting Hall of Fame. I
- 28:49Speaker 3: read a lot about it, and I am going to
- 28:52Speaker 3: go back and watch it at some point today. But
- 28:54Speaker 3: did you have to catch it last night?
- 28:55Speaker 13: I followed parts of it. I also followed some commentators
- 28:58Speaker 13: that I follow of on both sides of the political spectrum.
- 29:03Speaker 13: General consensus seems to be that it was a civil debate,
- 29:09Speaker 13: really civil debate. Now they're hard questions, imagine that, I know,
- 29:12Speaker 13: hard questions, but it was very public policy focused. I
- 29:17Speaker 13: won't say who won or lost because that's going to
- 29:19Speaker 13: depend on what they're all. They always claim victory if
- 29:22Speaker 13: you and.
- 29:23Speaker 3: Those that are supporting the Democrats side are going to say.
- 29:25Speaker 3: I saw on Facebook this morning someone said Walls absolutely
- 29:29Speaker 3: trounceteam and then I saw the same thing that said, you know,
- 29:32Speaker 3: so that's going to go along part of the party lines.
- 29:34Speaker 13: Yeah, for sure. But it seems to me that we
- 29:36Speaker 13: saw a debate that we haven't really seen in a
- 29:39Speaker 13: hot minute, where both sides were cordial, both got fact checked,
- 29:43Speaker 13: both got asked hard questions. Sometimes the answers didn't satisfy people.
- 29:48Speaker 13: That makes sense, but ultimately a civil debate and that's
- 29:51Speaker 13: kind of refreshing.
- 29:52Speaker 3: Yeah. Wow, what a novel concept, No kidding, What do
- 29:56Speaker 3: you think about this? I saw several people on x
- 29:59Speaker 3: are is formally known as Twitter and Facebook saying, gosh,
- 30:03Speaker 3: I wish we were choosing between Vance and Walls as
- 30:06Speaker 3: opposed to Trump and Harris. I actually saw that both
- 30:09Speaker 3: posted by both sides. People on both sides of political
- 30:11Speaker 3: Spectrum that said they wish that those two were actually
- 30:15Speaker 3: the nominees instead of Trump and Harris.
- 30:17Speaker 13: Well, it makes sense. I mean jd. Vance is very
- 30:20Speaker 13: much I would say, like Trump, except without the inconsistencies,
- 30:26Speaker 13: without the chaos. For sure, more disciplined, more focused on
- 30:30Speaker 13: public policy. He's Donald Trump if he was, you know,
- 30:34Speaker 13: certainly less chaotic and more focused on actual public policy.
- 30:38Speaker 13: I do think in regards to Walls, I think there
- 30:41Speaker 13: is some heartburns. Too late now, but there's some heartburn.
- 30:43Speaker 13: I think they some people in the Democratic establishment probably
- 30:46Speaker 13: wish they hadn't picked him, probably wish they would have
- 30:48Speaker 13: gone with somebody like Pennsylvania governors Shapiro for sure, but
- 30:53Speaker 13: he's there and they got to deal with it. I mean,
- 30:55Speaker 13: he got asked that question about that controversy or which controversy.
- 31:01Speaker 3: I haven't watched it. I don't know.

- 35:16Speaker 3: three five five zero zero eight Texas dave, I'm a
- 35:19Speaker 3: Democrat voter now a rarity in West Virginia. I did
- 35:22Speaker 3: not vote for Jim Justice when he ran as a Democrat,
- 35:24Speaker 3: neither when he ran as a Republican. He is, as
- 35:27Speaker 3: my grandma used to say, useless as blanks on a bull.
- 35:31Speaker 3: I think it's his bill, but I think they meant bull.
- 35:33Speaker 3: I do not understand the West Virginia voters infatuation with him,
- 35:37Speaker 3: says that Texter. Tex says, the truth of the matter
- 35:40Speaker 3: is that Revenue Secretary Larry Pack is a stude enough
- 35:43Speaker 3: to know that we can't afford this tax cut right now.
- 35:45Speaker 3: But Larry Pack is also a man who is too
- 35:48Speaker 3: weak to say no to Governor Justice. All of Charleston
- 35:51Speaker 3: knows this, and they are creating delays because Larry Pack
- 35:53Speaker 3: doesn't know how to deal with his boss. Tex says,
- 35:56Speaker 3: Vancey Walls are superior than Trump and Harris. Trump and
- 35:58Speaker 3: Harris are both complete oak. The VP candidates were great,
- 36:02Speaker 3: says a Texter. Coming up on tomorrow's show, Nah count Commission
- 36:06Speaker 3: preident Lance Wheeler's here. Another big Canawah County cleanup is happening,
- 36:09Speaker 3: the final one on the schedule. We will talk to
- 36:11Speaker 3: him about that plus other things going on in the
- 36:13Speaker 3: county tomorrow as what big happening is in Nitro with
- 36:16Speaker 3: an event to honor our veterans. We'll talk about that
- 36:18Speaker 3: on tomorrow's show. Last night in Huntington, six new members
- 36:21Speaker 3: were inducted into the West Virginia Broadcasting Hall of Fame.
- 36:23Speaker 3: Just so happens. Two of them are part of our
- 36:25Speaker 3: family here what he was from her sister station? What
- 36:27Speaker 3: of seven? Three to beat and newsman Extraordinariy Jeff Jenkins.
- 36:31Speaker 3: We have both of them in studio with me this morning.
- 36:33Speaker 3: I talked to Jeff a little bit, but we talked
- 36:35Speaker 3: mainly about Pete Rose. So what are I'm going to
- 36:37Speaker 3: start with you? Good morning, welcome to the show, and
- 36:39Speaker 3: congratulations my friend.
- 36:41Speaker 5: Well, thank you, sir, thank you, Rest in peace to
- 36:43Speaker 5: Pete Rose. Wow, man, you think you're going to hal
- 36:45Speaker 5: of fay?
- 36:46Speaker 3: If I were his family, I tell them we're to
- 36:48Speaker 3: stick it if that were me. But that's just me.
- 36:49Speaker 3: It's just me me, and you know I haven't put
- 36:51Speaker 3: that guy in all right, Well, let's talk let's talk
- 36:53Speaker 3: about you. Let's talk about what he was about this
- 36:55Speaker 3: art about me? Yeah, not what we're supposed to do. Yeah,
- 36:58Speaker 3: all right? Oh man, what lord do mercy? Who are
- 37:04Speaker 3: all these people coming in here?
- 37:05Speaker 9: Go?
- 37:06Speaker 3: What's this all? What's this all about?
- 37:09Speaker 15: I knew what he said last night, this was this
- 37:14Speaker 15: was his foundation.
- 37:15Speaker 3: Yeah, his family, what is his entire family has come
- 37:18Speaker 3: in here and uh and apparently everybody's in here. I'm
- 37:21Speaker 3: waiting for John Racy to walk in here. We see
- 37:24Speaker 3: mister Racy.
- 37:25Speaker 4: I'm leaving.
- 37:27Speaker 15: Donuts.
- 37:28Speaker 3: All right? Talk about all right, what he before before
- 37:32Speaker 3: we got something a little special plan for both of
- 37:34Speaker 3: you here. But before we get to that, talk about
- 37:38Speaker 3: how you ended up in Charleston.
- 37:40Speaker 5: Actually, my mother sitting next to me, and I didn't
- 37:42Speaker 5: tell her I was coming down here to interview me
- 37:44Speaker 5: and my buddy Marcu's beach and we ran a teen
- 37:46Speaker 5: club in Fort Wayne.
- 37:48Speaker 4: I thought I think I was nineteen.
- 37:50Speaker 5: Now we're arguing about this. I was either nineteen or
- 37:52Speaker 5: twenty and we just left and we this before any
- 37:55Speaker 5: technology on your phone. So we had like map quests
- 37:58Speaker 5: that we had to print out. The paper took us
- 38:00Speaker 5: about eight and a half hours to get to Charleston,
- 38:02Speaker 5: West Virginia. Now with your phone technology, it takes five.
- 38:05Speaker 5: But we got here. I went to Hibachi on the
- 38:07Speaker 5: West Side. If everybody remember that place over there. Kid
- 38:11Speaker 5: Conley Sean Banks interviewed me, and they really thought I
- 38:15Speaker 5: was older through my aircheck. The aircheck is what you
- 38:18Speaker 5: send a company when you need a job. So I
- 38:20Speaker 5: needed a job and Kid hired me on the spot.
- 38:23Speaker 5: And I went back to tell my mother and said, Mom,
- 38:25Speaker 5: I got a job. She's like, where what are you doing?
- 38:28Speaker 3: So she thought it was gonna be two blocks away.
- 38:32Speaker 3: You're going to work at Hardy's or something.
- 38:35Speaker 5: But I moved up here in April. I think it's
- 38:38Speaker 5: April ninety nine, but my work says April two thousand, Astley,
- 38:41Speaker 5: can you fix that?
- 38:42Speaker 3: I need that for Ashley. Just so you know, last
- 38:45Speaker 3: night this was a big deal because he's trying to
- 38:48Speaker 3: figure out when he can retire. Yeah, and there seems
- 38:51Speaker 3: to be some discrepancy. He spent a little time on
- 38:53Speaker 3: that last night. So I mean people when they talked
- 38:57Speaker 3: about putting this urban station, rapsation, hip hop, whatever you
- 39:00Speaker 3: want to call name. This is West Virginia man, this
- 39:03Speaker 3: is not going to work. We got it worked, Yes,
- 39:07Speaker 3: it worked.
- 39:08Speaker 5: And it's not about me. It's not about me, Dave.
- 39:11Speaker 5: It's about the community that we serve. As now I
- 39:13Speaker 5: wish I wish I did have the power to uh
- 39:16Speaker 5: see bring in twenty people in this office are get
- 39:18Speaker 5: in the Hall of fame. First, uh glory go to God.
- 39:22Speaker 5: And secondly, it's the community that just bought in with
- 39:25Speaker 5: us because we's a brand new format like nobody.
- 39:27Speaker 3: Nobody West Virginia has. Nobody's done it.
- 39:29Speaker 5: Since nobody did it, they're crazy not to But thank
- 39:31Speaker 5: you the job security.
- 39:34Speaker 3: I mean, there's no other station like this. And last
- 39:36Speaker 3: year we made the move putting taking ninety eight seven
- 39:39Speaker 3: and moving some things around, putting you on a bigger
- 39:40Speaker 3: stick one of seven three and and of course with
- 39:42Speaker 3: apps and people are listening online and you've got But look,
- 39:46Speaker 3: if you walked away from this job today, Woodrow, I
- 39:48Speaker 3: mean the impact that you've made on the city of Charleston.
- 39:52Speaker 3: Forget about the radio thing. This has. This is what
- 39:55Speaker 3: you're going to be known for. They're gonna talk about
- 39:57Speaker 3: wood he woulds the DJ, which I hate that term.
- 39:59Speaker 3: By the way, they're gonna talk about Wood, he woulds
- 40:01Speaker 3: the DJ. But what you've done for Charleston, Man's that's
- 40:06Speaker 3: the legacy of what he woulds. In my opinion, Dave,
- 40:09Speaker 3: we can say that.
- 40:10Speaker 5: But what Charles had done for me, Like yo, just
- 40:12Speaker 5: the people in this community. Like I'm just a guy
- 40:16Speaker 5: from Fort Wayne, Indiana, came here just because I needed
- 40:19Speaker 5: a job. I think I was making eighteen thousand dollars
- 40:22Speaker 5: a year. I got here's a crazy story. Somebody told
- 40:26Speaker 5: me move up to rox Atlanta Hills, one of the
- 40:28Speaker 5: most expensive apartments in Charleston. So all my money went
- 40:32Speaker 5: to paying my rent when I paid it.
- 40:35Speaker 12: But but.
- 40:38Speaker 3: But the communitually what he wanted these people here as
- 40:41Speaker 3: a process server. Oh yeah, you owe some back rent
- 40:45Speaker 3: from two thousand and one.
- 40:47Speaker 6: You're probably right, You're probably right.
- 40:49Speaker 5: But it's just amazing that twenty five years being in
- 40:53Speaker 5: this city, being in the state. And I tell people
- 40:55Speaker 5: all the time, all the time, West Virginia is the
- 40:58Speaker 5: best state that you ever can raise a family. That
- 41:01Speaker 5: the people so nice and and we just here to
- 41:04Speaker 5: take care of each other. Man, one by one, we're
- 41:06Speaker 5: gonna take care of each other. We're gonna make sure
- 41:08Speaker 5: it's right. And if we don't. We gonna try. We're
- 41:10Speaker 5: gonna try our butts off to make sure our neighbors
- 41:13Speaker 5: are right, our friends are good, and our family is good.
- 41:16Speaker 5: So I appreciate this, I really do. I swear I
- 41:19Speaker 5: appreciate it. But it's bigger than me and my brother.
- 41:22Speaker 5: It is way bigger than me.
- 41:23Speaker 3: Man. All right, hang out with me one second, because
- 41:26Speaker 3: we got something I want to bring in. Jeff Jenkins
- 41:27Speaker 3: here for a moment. Jeff, can you stop? Can you
- 41:29Speaker 3: top that story?
- 41:30Speaker 15: No?
- 41:31Speaker 3: All right, thank you all for coming.
- 41:33Speaker 5: Jeff actually pays his bills.
- 41:37Speaker 3: Jeff, Jeff, your story couldn't be any different. A kid
- 41:40Speaker 3: from Pratt, West Virginia, you know, shout out to Pratt,
- 41:43Speaker 3: all twenty five of them. They're in Pratt. I love Pratt.
- 41:47Speaker 3: I covered it with Secretary of State's office. But you
- 41:51Speaker 3: you grew up with dreams of being on the radio
- 41:53Speaker 3: and doing sports. That's where you thought you were a
- 41:55Speaker 3: few and you still do a lot of sports. But
- 41:56Speaker 3: you thought sports was gonna be the be all end
- 41:58Speaker 3: off for you. Talk about that. Sure, Yeah, that's what
- 42:00Speaker 3: I thought. Uh.
- 42:01Speaker 15: You know, listen to this radio station growing up, you know,
- 42:04Speaker 15: listen to listen to the Cincinnati Reds and just you know,
- 42:07Speaker 15: listen to a lot of this station, the station my
- 42:09Speaker 15: father listened to, you know. But ended up from here
- 42:12Speaker 15: in Morgantown and to wv U, and and I got
- 42:15Speaker 15: my degree there and started working for our company, this company, uh,
- 42:19Speaker 15: you know, interned and then right into uh a part
- 42:22Speaker 15: time job, and then uh and then.
- 42:24Speaker 4: Started doing news.
- 42:25Speaker 15: But sports was yeah, I interned in sports, uh and
- 42:30Speaker 15: but there there was no job in sports as I
- 42:33Speaker 15: was getting ready to graduate. Uh and so UH started
- 42:37Speaker 15: on news and never done news before.
- 42:39Speaker 13: Uh.
- 42:39Speaker 3: Hard to believe, you know. And they listened to you
- 42:41Speaker 3: now that you'd never done news before.
- 42:43Speaker 15: Well, if you heard an interview I did with Jennings Randolph,
- 42:46Speaker 15: that was awesome.
- 42:47Speaker 3: Chris Lawrence played that the other day. A A a
- 42:50Speaker 3: student at WVU. You were student at w.
- 42:52Speaker 15: I think I was just a couple of months into
- 42:53Speaker 15: the job. I sounded like I was in sixth grade.
- 42:57Speaker 3: Jennings Randolph, that was awesome.
- 42:58Speaker 15: Yeah, I sounded like I was in sick that I'm
- 43:00Speaker 15: glad you're here, young man to interview me. Yes, But
- 43:03Speaker 15: you know, it's it was a great honor last night,
- 43:06Speaker 15: you know, you know, to hear what he say, if
- 43:09Speaker 15: we could take part of what he's speech where it
- 43:11Speaker 15: talks about community involvement and how important local radio is
- 43:15Speaker 15: and can that Yeah, you know, because he hit the
- 43:18Speaker 15: nail right on the hiss. I mean it was it
- 43:22Speaker 15: was great. I was glad that that he was last.
- 43:25Speaker 3: What I want you and then we're going to go
- 43:27Speaker 3: to break and then I do have something really special
- 43:30Speaker 3: for you here. But what he I want you to
- 43:31Speaker 3: tell us a little bit about what you said in
- 43:33Speaker 3: that speech last night, the part that you were talking
- 43:35Speaker 3: about all the competition and they said radio was going
- 43:38Speaker 3: to be dead because of serious satellite and it was
- 43:40Speaker 3: going to be dead because of of of Pandora and whatever.
- 43:45Speaker 3: What What did you say about that last night? Do
- 43:47Speaker 3: you remember?
- 43:47Speaker 5: Should I read it verbati? Yeah, I can read it verbata.
- 43:51Speaker 5: But it's about uh, it's local radio and local media
- 43:55Speaker 5: is very important to our community. It's just about uh,
- 43:59Speaker 5: we all can play music. We can play music now
- 44:01Speaker 5: from anywhere. We can play music from any object or
- 44:04Speaker 5: any technology we got. But are they do their streaming
- 44:09Speaker 5: services like iTunes and Pandora. They don't come out of
- 44:12Speaker 5: help the community. I'm not dissing them, exem I gotta
- 44:14Speaker 5: show axem.
- 44:15Speaker 3: I do excem.
- 44:16Speaker 5: But that's not a dis to them. But local media
- 44:19Speaker 5: is so important, so we can touch a person one
- 44:22Speaker 5: by one. This is how you win in radio. This
- 44:24Speaker 5: is how you stay in radio. This is how you
- 44:27Speaker 5: make a radio station a family. It's a community. It's
- 44:30Speaker 5: not like I say on the beat, We're not a
- 44:32Speaker 5: radio station. We are a family. So when you love
- 44:35Speaker 5: your family, you treat your family right, they gonna treat
- 44:38Speaker 5: you right. And it's real simple, man, which you do
- 44:40Speaker 5: the right thing in life, it's got to come back
- 44:42Speaker 5: to you. It's gonna come back three times fold and
- 44:44Speaker 5: what we stand for and to beat us trying to
- 44:47Speaker 5: do the right thing and trying to take care of
- 44:48Speaker 5: the people that we serve.
- 44:49Speaker 3: All Right, we're gonna take a quick break, and I
- 44:51Speaker 3: know j I know Jeff, he's over looking at watch.
- 44:53Speaker 3: I canna get back in the newsroom. I gotta get it.
- 44:54Speaker 3: You just gotta hang with me for two or three
- 44:56Speaker 3: more minutes. We're gonna take a quick break and I
- 44:57Speaker 3: got something special for everybody. You're back after this on
- 44:59Speaker 3: the Charleston WCCHS.
- 45:02Speaker 4: Brought to you by the Eric J. Tar Family Businesses.
