• 1:38
Today we're talking about someone who is known all around
• 1:42
the world for his amazing skills on the soccer field.
• 1:45
His name is Lionel Messi and he has broken many records in the
• 1:49
world of soccer, also called football, in many countries.
• 1:53
So, get ready to learn about some incredible achievements and
• 1:57
see why Messi is such a superstar.
• 2:01
Let's start at the beginning. Lionel Messi was born in
• 2:04
Rosario, Argentina, in 1987. When he was just a little kid,
• 2:09
he loved playing soccer. He practiced every day and
• 2:13
dreamed of playing for a big team.
• 2:15
By the time he was a teenager, Messi moved to Spain to join the
• 2:18
youth Academy of a famous club called FC Barcelona.
• 2:22
This was the start of an amazing journey.
• 2:25
Now let's talk about records. A record in sports is like
• 2:29
reaching a new highest score or doing something that no one else
• 2:33
has ever done before. Messi has set and broken many
• 2:36
records, and today we'll look at some of the most amazing ones.
• 2:40
Up until the year 2025, one of the most famous records Messi
• 2:44
holds is the most goals scored for a single club.
• 2:48
While playing for Barcelona, Messi scored an incredible 672
• 2:53
goals in competitive matches. That's like scoring a goal every
• 2:57
day for almost 2 years. No other player in history has
• 3:00
scored that many goals for just one team.
• 3:04
This record shows just how important Messi was to Barcelona
• 3:08
and how often he helped his team win matches.
• 3:11
Did you know that Messi also holds the record for the most
• 3:14
goals scored in a single European club season?
• 3:16
In the 2011 to 2012 season, Messi found the back of the net
• 3:21
73 times for Barcelona. That means in one season he
• 3:26
scored more goals than some teams manage in an entire year.
• 3:30
This record made headlines all over the world and proved that
• 3:34
Messi is one of the best goal scorers ever.
• 3:37
Let's take a quick trivia break. Here's your first question.
• 3:41
Can you guess which team Messi scored his first official goal
• 3:44
  against for Barcelona's first team?
• 3:46
Take a few seconds to think. The answer is Albusete, a
• 3:54
Spanish football club. Messi scored his first official
• 3:57
goal for Barcelona against them in May 2005.
• 4:01
He was only 17 years old at the time.
• 4:04
As Messi's career continued, he collected many more records.
• 4:08
For example, here's the record for the most goals scored in a
• 4:12
calendar year. In 2012, Messi scored 91 goals
• 4:17
  for Barcelona and Argentina combined.
• 4:19
That means in just one year, he scored more goals than most
• 4:23
players do in three or four years.
• 4:26
This record was recognized by Guinness World Records.
• 4:29
Here's another fun fact. Messi is the player with the
• 4:33
most balloon D or awards. The Balound Award is a special
• 4:37
trophy given to the best soccer player in the world each year.
• 4:40
As of 2025, Messi has won it 8 times.
• 4:45
No other player in history has won this award as many times.
• 4:50
It shows that Messi's talent has been recognized by soccer
• 4:53
experts over and over again. Now for a yes or no question, Do
• 4:59
you think Messi has ever played in the Olympic Games?
• 5:05
The answer is yes. Messi played for Argentina in
• 5:08
the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China and even won a gold medal
• 5:13
with his team. Let's talk about assists.
• 5:16
In soccer. An assist is when you help a
• 5:18
teammate score a goal by passing them the ball in a great way.
• 5:22
Assists are important because they show how well a player
• 5:25
works with their teammates. Messi holds the record for the
• 5:28
most assists in the Spanish league called La Liga.
• 5:31
He made 193 assists for his teammates while playing for
• 5:35
Barcelona. That means Messi not only scores
• 5:38
goals but also helps others score, making him a great team
• 5:42
player. Did you know that Messi also
• 5:44
holds the record for the most goals scored in El Clasico
• 5:47
matches? El Clasico is the name for the
• 5:50
matches between Barcelona and their big rivals Real Madrid.
• 5:54
These games are very popular and watched by millions of people
• 5:58
around the world. Messi has scored 26 goals in
• 6:01
these matches, more than any other player in the history of
• 6:05
this famous rivalry. Here's another engagement
• 6:07
question. Can you guess which country
• 6:10
Messi scored the most international goals against by
• 6:13
  2025? The answer is Bolivia.
• 6:19
Messi has scored eleven goals against Bolivia while playing
• 6:22
for Argentina. After spending most of his
• 6:25
career with Barcelona, Messi made some big moves.
• 6:29
He joined Paris Saint Germain in 2021 and then moved to the
• 6:33
United States to join Inter Miami in 2023.
• 6:37
Even as he got older, Messi kept breaking records.
• 6:40
By 2025, he led Inter Miami to win the MLS Cup for the very
• 6:45
first time. He was even named the leagues
• 6:48
Most Valuable Player or MVP. This showed everyone that he was
• 6:52
still the best even in a new country.
• 6:55
Now let's talk about international records.
• 6:58
Messi has played for Argentinas national team since he was a
• 7:02
teenager. He holds the record for the most
• 7:04
goals scored for Argentina with over 110 international goals by
• 7:09
2025. That means he's the top goal
• 7:12
scorer in his country's history. Messi also LED Argentina to win
• 7:17
the Copa America in 2021 and the FIFA World Cup in 2022.
• 7:22
Winning the World Cup is a dream for any soccer player, and Messi
• 7:26
helped make that dream come true for his country.
• 7:29
Here's another yes or no question for you.
• 7:31
Do you think Messi has ever missed a penalty kick in an
• 7:34
official match? The answer is yes.
• 7:40
Even the best players, including Messi, sometimes miss penalty
• 7:44
kicks. It shows that everyone makes
• 7:46
mistakes and what's important is to keep trying your best.
• 7:50
Messi is also famous for his consistency.
• 7:54
This means he plays well almost every time he steps onto the
• 7:57
field. For example, Messi has scored at
• 8:00
least twenty goals in 13 different seasons in the Spanish
• 8:03
league. That's more than a decade of
• 8:06
always being one of the top scorers.
• 8:08
Let's throw in another trivia question.
• 8:11
Do you know which stadium Messi scored his first World Cup goal
• 8:14
in? The answer is Central Stadium in
• 8:20
Leipzig, Germany. Messi scored his first World Cup
• 8:24
goal there during the 2006 World Cup.
• 8:27
Another cool record. Messi is the only player to have
• 8:30
scored in every round of the World Cup, from the group stage
• 8:34
to the final in a single tournament.
• 8:37
He did this during the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
• 8:40
This shows how he performs under pressure and in the biggest
• 8:44
matches. Messy style of play is admired
• 8:47
by fans and experts. He's known for his quick
• 8:50
dribbling, accurate passing and incredible vision on the field.
• 8:55
Coaches and players around the world talk about how messy makes
• 8:58
difficult things look easy. Whether he's dribbling past
• 9:01
defenders or scoring from tight angles, you might be wondering
• 9:05
how Messi keeps breaking so many records.
• 9:08
The answer is hard work, dedication and a love for the
• 9:12
game. Messi trains every day, eats
• 9:15
healthy food and always tries to improve.
• 9:18
He once said that you have to fight to reach your dream and
• 9:21
sacrifice to achieve it. This is a great lesson for
• 9:25
anyone who wants to get better at something, whether it's
• 9:27
sports, music or school. Here's another yes or no
• 9:31
question. Has Messi ever played as a
• 9:34
  goalkeeper in a professional match?
• 9:39
The answer is no. Messi has always played as an
• 9:43
attacking player, usually as a forward or attacking midfielder.
• 9:47
Messi's influence goes beyond the soccer field.
• 9:50
He inspires millions of kids and adults to work hard and never
• 9:55
give up. Many young players try to copy
• 9:57
his moves and dream of one day playing like him.
• 10:00
Messi also helps charities and supports children's hospitals,
• 10:04
showing that he cares about helping others off the field
• 10:07
too. Let's do one last trivia
• 10:09
question. Can you guess which country
• 10:12
Messi scored his 100th international goal against?
• 10:18
The answer is Curacao. Messi scored his 100th goal for
• 10:23
  Argentina against Curacao in 2023.
• 10:26
As we reach the end of today's episode, let's recap what we
• 10:30
learned about Lionel Messi's amazing records up to 2025.
• 10:34
Messi has scored more goals for one club than anyone else, one
• 10:38
more balloon Dor trophies than any other player, and recently
• 10:42
