- Sean Graver: Okay, you've seen something or you've put something together and you're pretty sure someone at your job is stealing. Maybe from the company, maybe from the cash register, or maybe from inventory. Maybe you're certain, maybe you're not quite, but you've been sitting on it, not sure what to do, and staying silent about it is starting to feel like its own kind of decision. Well, good morning. I'm Sean. This is Prayer Before Work. And let's look at Proverbs 21 3. And it says to do righteousness and justice is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice. So King Solomon is pushing back on something people often want to do, which is to make a religious substitute for actual integrity. Now you can have your faith life and still look the other way Monday through Friday. He's saying that's not the trade. Righteousness in real life is the thing. And this is hard for a lot of reasons. You you probably have to work with this person. And you don't want to cause someone to lose their job, especially if you're not completely certain. And you don't want to be wrong and blow up someone's life over something you misread. And honestly, there's probably a part of you that just doesn't want to be involved at all. I get that. That's totally understandable. But here's what this verse is pointing toward. Integrity isn't only about what you do with your own hands. It's also about what you do when you're holding something important that someone else needs to know. Now you don't have to become a detective and you don't have to blow up anything recklessly. And what this might look like practically is simply putting it in the hands of someone whose job it is to handle it. Might be a manager or human resources. And doing so honestly, without embellishment, without any motive or revenge, you know, here's what I saw, here's what I know. I'll let you take it from here. You didn't ask to be in this position, but you're in it. And what you do with it is going to say something about who you are. So let's pray right now. Father, we didn't ask for this. We don't want to get it wrong. Wrong about what we think we saw or wrong about how we respond, or wrong about what happens to this person. So give us clarity about what we actually know. Give us wisdom about what to do with it. And give us the courage to do what's right even when it's uncomfortable. Help us be someone who does righteousness, not just someone who talks about it. In Jesus' name, amen. Now go make today count.
