- 0:06Speaker 3: Right, tumps it off into the right flasf to Michael Bumpers,
- 0:09Speaker 3: who bounce us off on one tackler cats inside the
- 0:11Speaker 3: forty down of the thirty five yard line.
- 0:13Speaker 1: Powered by Seahawks dot Com.
- 0:15Speaker 4: Matt pumpfak's looking at the gold line.
- 0:17Speaker 5: He throws it into the m zone.
- 0:18Speaker 1: Touchdown.
- 0:19Speaker 6: Say Hawks, it's Michael Thumpins with a diving catching the
- 0:23Speaker 6: end zone. A ten yard touchdown reception for Bumpers, and
- 0:26Speaker 6: the kid out of Washington State has found himself a
- 0:29Speaker 6: place on this team.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Now here's your host, Nasa Chobee.
- 0:34Speaker 5: Welcome into another edition of Hawk Talk.
- 0:36Speaker 7: The Seahawks beat the Arizona Cardinals by a score of
- 0:39Speaker 7: twenty to ten get back in the win column at Loomenfield.
- 0:42Speaker 7: And the Seahawks did it missing a lot of guys,
- 0:44Speaker 7: without dk Metcalf, without Evan Brown, several starters on the
- 0:47Speaker 7: offensive line still ended up blocking for one hundred yard
- 0:50Speaker 7: rusher in Ken Walker. So let's not waste any more time.
- 0:53Speaker 7: Let's talk to the guy who has a PhD in
- 0:56Speaker 7: moving people who do.
- 0:57Speaker 5: Not want to be moved. Our guy Ray Roberts in
- 0:59Speaker 5: the trenches.
- 1:02Speaker 1: It's time to go inside the trenches with former Seahawk
- 1:05Speaker 1: Ray Roberts.
- 1:07Speaker 7: Big Ray big win yesterday and like I just mentioned,
- 1:10Speaker 7: Seahawks did it with their fifth different starting offensive line combo.
- 1:13Speaker 7: They've been banged up up front. How did that group
- 1:16Speaker 7: perform overall?
- 1:17Speaker 5: What do you see from them?
- 1:18Speaker 2: Now?
- 1:18Speaker 8: I was really impressed with how well Olu communicated because,
- 1:23Speaker 8: like on the NFL films replay, you can hear him
- 1:26Speaker 8: talking and Geno having conversations at.
- 1:29Speaker 2: The line of scrimmage and him making calls, and so
- 1:31Speaker 2: his calls are very clear and precise. And then I'm
- 1:35Speaker 2: going to tell you, like I thought that one of
- 1:37Speaker 2: the biggest issues in the run game was that we
- 1:39Speaker 2: weren't getting to the second level consistently enough. And when
- 1:42Speaker 2: I watched it, especially in the first half, the combinations
- 1:45Speaker 2: with Olu and Bradford, they were absolutely taking their double
- 1:50Speaker 2: teams to the second level and it was creating some
- 1:52Speaker 2: nice little lanes for Kennick Walker to run through. So
- 1:57Speaker 2: I've been really impressed with what I've seen so far
- 2:00Speaker 2: out of them. And then even a stone foresight to me.
- 2:04Speaker 2: He just looks more comfortable on the right side than
- 2:07Speaker 2: he does on the left side. It just seems more
- 2:09Speaker 2: natural for him. I know he played left tackling college,
- 2:12Speaker 2: but on the right side, he just looks more fluid,
- 2:15Speaker 2: he looks more athletic, it looks more powerful in the
- 2:17Speaker 2: run game. So I thought that the combination that they
- 2:20Speaker 2: had yesterday played a pretty good football game.
- 2:23Speaker 5: Big Ray.
- 2:23Speaker 9: I was watching film of ken Walker, and I thought
- 2:26Speaker 9: he did a better job, at least early in the game,
- 2:29Speaker 9: getting north and south and not really looking for the
- 2:32Speaker 9: bounce back early. Granted, his biggest run of the day
- 2:35Speaker 9: was a cutback on his own, but I think that
- 2:39Speaker 9: credits the guards like you just mentioned. But what did
- 2:41Speaker 9: you say out to ken Walker and how was he
- 2:43Speaker 9: able to have his first one hundred yard game of
- 2:44Speaker 9: the season.
- 2:45Speaker 2: Well, I think that ken Walker is starting to figure
- 2:49Speaker 2: out when he just needs to get vertical and go
- 2:52Speaker 2: get the three yards that are there, or go get
- 2:55Speaker 2: the four yards are there, or you may have to
- 2:57Speaker 2: put your shoulder down and run over the one defense
- 3:00Speaker 2: under standing in the hole there. And when he can
- 3:03Speaker 2: kind of set the playoff to pop outside on that
- 3:06Speaker 2: one long run he hat uh every day had a
- 3:09Speaker 2: hat for a hat on every guy the tight ends
- 3:11Speaker 2: the tackles of guard center. But there was one safety
- 3:14Speaker 2: that had kind of leapd down into the box at
- 3:16Speaker 2: the last minute. So he set that guy up and
- 3:19Speaker 2: then bounce it to the outside. That is a perfect
- 3:21Speaker 2: opportunity to do that. Sometimes though, if you see that
- 3:26Speaker 2: that safety coming down late and he's not necessarily in
- 3:28Speaker 2: the hole yet, that's when you just need to take
- 3:30Speaker 2: it to him. Just get vertical and take the yardage.
- 3:33Speaker 2: You know, have a collision with that guy or or
- 3:36Speaker 2: you know, put the moves on and once you get
- 3:37Speaker 2: through the hole. And I think he's starting to figure
- 3:39Speaker 2: that out. He said a little bit of that in
- 3:41Speaker 2: the postgame interview that he's he's doing a better job
- 3:45Speaker 2: at just getting vertical on some on some place, because
- 3:48Speaker 2: every play can't be a home run. And you know,
- 3:51Speaker 2: like when I when I played with Barry Sad there's
- 3:53Speaker 2: one of the things that Barry told us is that
- 3:55Speaker 2: sometimes he's running a certain way at the beginning of
- 3:59Speaker 2: the game or the first quarter or so because he's
- 4:01Speaker 2: trying to set up of he's trying to set up
- 4:04Speaker 2: the cutback, or if people are playing the cutback, he
- 4:06Speaker 2: stays to the front side more. So I think Kenneth
- 4:09Speaker 2: Walker is starting to kind of figure that stuff out.
- 4:10Speaker 2: And it looked good yesterday.
- 4:12Speaker 7: Yeah, he had one run bump where he got into
- 4:14Speaker 7: the secondary and just gave it to the defender.
- 4:16Speaker 5: So I love what I'm seeing.
- 4:17Speaker 7: You can't walk here now while we're talking about this
- 4:20Speaker 7: offense ray to me. They're so close to getting to
- 4:24Speaker 7: that next level, right. You know, last week in Cincinnati
- 4:27Speaker 7: it was the red zone. Other weeks it's been penalties,
- 4:30Speaker 7: other weeks it's been turnovers.
- 4:33Speaker 5: They're so close.
- 4:33Speaker 7: I feel like, what do they need to do as
- 4:35Speaker 7: a unit overall to take that next step to get
- 4:38Speaker 7: them where they want to go.
- 4:40Speaker 2: Well, I think part of it is the consistency of
- 4:43Speaker 2: the available bodies, you know, Like you know, we said
- 4:47Speaker 2: that there was five. This is the fifth different starting
- 4:50Speaker 2: offensive line, but if you look throughout the games, because
- 4:53Speaker 2: of entries during games, this has been like the eighth
- 4:56Speaker 2: or ninth iteration of an offensive line. So even in
- 5:00Speaker 2: and Detroit we were it down to one reserve offensive
- 5:04Speaker 2: lineman left, so if anyone else that had gotten hurt
- 5:06Speaker 2: would have been out of offensive lineman. So I think
- 5:09Speaker 2: that will that will help solidify things when because it's
- 5:13Speaker 2: important that those guys are playing next to each other,
- 5:15Speaker 2: they're starting to understand each other, they get into a
- 5:18Speaker 2: rhythm with each other, they get into a rhythm with
- 5:20Speaker 2: the running backs, all that kind of stuff. And then
- 5:23Speaker 2: when I think about, you know, some of the problems
- 5:25Speaker 2: in the in the red zone or the turnovers, I
- 5:28Speaker 2: think if I was Geno, I would go back and
- 5:32Speaker 2: revisit the mindset he had the first two thirds of
- 5:37Speaker 2: the season last year, where he just seemed like a
- 5:40Speaker 2: complete command of the offense, making checks, putting us in
- 5:43Speaker 2: the right situations, protecting the ball, but still being aggressive
- 5:46Speaker 2: with the ball. I think sometimes you know, Goes goes
- 5:50Speaker 2: to ultimate playmaker mode and then he'll make a crazy
- 5:56Speaker 2: throw or take a crazy sack or whatever. And unfortunately
- 5:59Speaker 2: this year is coming just really bad times in the
- 6:02Speaker 2: red zone or in a long drive, or in a
- 6:05Speaker 2: situation where you need to get points to stay on
- 6:07Speaker 2: the field. So but I don't think, you know, there's
- 6:10Speaker 2: any one problem that is the problem. It's just like
- 6:13Speaker 2: some little things that just let's just tighten us up,
- 6:16Speaker 2: get the able bodies back on the field, and then
- 6:18Speaker 2: just make sure that our mindset is right. From the
- 6:20Speaker 2: quarterback position.
- 6:23Speaker 10: Big great.
- 6:24Speaker 9: His defense is playing at a different level right now.
- 6:26Speaker 9: I think Jordan Brooks is having a heck of a season. Obviously,
- 6:29Speaker 9: Devin Witherspoon could have had a great game if it won.
- 6:32Speaker 10: For some penalties.
- 6:33Speaker 9: Who deserves the credit Because a lot of people were
- 6:35Speaker 9: talking about Clinton Hurt last year, get him out of here,
- 6:38Speaker 9: and I'm telling people to calm down, let him get
- 6:40Speaker 9: his guys here. But when you look at this defense,
- 6:43Speaker 9: how much credit does Clinton Hurt get? And then what
- 6:46Speaker 9: about the Jimmies and the Joels on that side of
- 6:47Speaker 9: the ball.
- 6:49Speaker 2: Well, I think the credit that Clint Hurt should get
- 6:51Speaker 2: is just his results. Like you know, he wasn't like
- 6:53Speaker 2: in all the interviews and people are asking him about,
- 6:57Speaker 2: hey just three four with four to three concepts, like what.
- 7:00Speaker 5: Is this all about?
- 7:01Speaker 2: And you let Dick Hughes al Woods go and all
- 7:04Speaker 2: this other kind of stuff and maybe you don't have
- 7:06Speaker 2: the right personnel and this that and the other thing.
- 7:08Speaker 2: And he just kept saying, we're not coaching guys anything
- 7:12Speaker 2: differently than we coached them when we were, you know,
- 7:14Speaker 2: playing good football, you know, three or four years ago.
- 7:17Speaker 2: And so he kind of stuck to it. And when
- 7:20Speaker 2: I look at this, like, you know how we talk
- 7:22Speaker 2: about the pass rush and the coverage has to kind
- 7:26Speaker 2: of be connected. Well, I think the front half, like
- 7:30Speaker 2: the defensive line and the linebackers, have to also be connected.
- 7:33Speaker 2: So when I watched the film, this is a clean
- 7:35Speaker 2: that that surprised me is Jared Reid is more times
- 7:40Speaker 2: than not the first dude off the ball, and I
- 7:43Speaker 2: don't remember that being part of his game when he
- 7:46Speaker 2: was here. But his first step is so quick that
- 7:49Speaker 2: on a lot of the plays he's already playing on
- 7:52Speaker 2: the offensive side of the line of scrimmage. That in
- 7:55Speaker 2: and of itself, whether he makes the tackle or not,
- 7:57Speaker 2: is disruption and that allows for other people to make plays.
- 8:01Speaker 2: And I really do think that that is why the
- 8:04Speaker 2: run defense is better. And then you look at Draymond Jones,
- 8:07Speaker 2: He's doing the same thing. These dudes are not big,
- 8:10Speaker 2: you know, three hundred and forty pounds two gap defensive tackles.
- 8:14Speaker 2: They're more athletic, and they may be playing like a
- 8:17Speaker 2: two gap look, but there are attacking gaps versus reading
- 8:20Speaker 2: and reacting to gat to blocking schemes, And to me,
- 8:25Speaker 2: that makes a difference when a running back has to
- 8:28Speaker 2: make a move the second he gets the ball, the
- 8:30Speaker 2: defense is already in a winning in a winning mindset
- 8:34Speaker 2: in that situation. Now you've got to go make the tackles.
- 8:37Speaker 2: And then that's allowing these run the linebackers to flow
- 8:40Speaker 2: without a whole lot of traffic in front of them.
- 8:42Speaker 2: So then Jordan Brooks can have the game that he
- 8:45Speaker 2: had Like this dude seemed like he was making every
- 8:47Speaker 2: tackle on every play in every situation. And then you know,
- 8:51Speaker 2: to see like his animation that we've never seen before.
- 8:54Speaker 2: He was really I think, vibing with that Jamal Adams
- 8:58Speaker 2: and Witherspoon yesterday, he was really into it. So I
- 9:02Speaker 2: really do think, like if I think about Whetherstoon has
- 9:05Speaker 2: been great, He's made some great plays. Jordan brook Brooks
- 9:08Speaker 2: has been awesome to get to see him back out
- 9:10Speaker 2: there after the knee surgery. You know, Jamal Adams is
- 9:13Speaker 2: doing his thing, Diggs is always doing his thing. But
- 9:16Speaker 2: to me, the magic, which is what they have been
- 9:18Speaker 2: missing the last couple of years, has been the two
- 9:21Speaker 2: defensive tackles and Jones and reed to me they would
- 9:24Speaker 2: be the MVPs of the defense because a lot of
- 9:27Speaker 2: their stats aren't big, but the sacrifices that they're making
- 9:31Speaker 2: so that other people can have stats is pretty big.
- 9:35Speaker 7: I love what you said there, Ray, and I think
- 9:37Speaker 7: some credit of that credit pie has got to go
- 9:39Speaker 7: to John Snyder in this personnel department, because a lot
- 9:42Speaker 7: of people really doubted whether the Seahawks did enough upfront,
- 9:45Speaker 7: and clearly they did with how Jay Reid and Raymond
- 9:48Speaker 7: Jones are playing. But last thing for me, right for you,
- 9:51Speaker 7: sticking on that defensive line. We know last year the
- 9:54Speaker 7: rookie class got a lot of attention, and rightfully so
- 9:56Speaker 7: because they're the best in the National Football League. But
- 9:59Speaker 7: you know, this year, Drake Woollen was coming off an injury,
- 10:01Speaker 7: Kobe Bryant had some injuries. Both tackles have been injured.
- 10:05Speaker 7: Are you surprised or did you see this ascension coming
- 10:08Speaker 7: for Boye Mafe? You know, I think a lot of
- 10:11Speaker 7: people were hopeful that he would take this step, But
- 10:14Speaker 7: are you surprised that he was able to kind of
- 10:16Speaker 7: take that step this early and now almost vault himself
- 10:19Speaker 7: to the top of that sophomore class this year?
- 10:22Speaker 2: Well? You know what, like it was. The thing is
- 10:24Speaker 2: last year you could always see glimpses of it, Like
- 10:26Speaker 2: he never got enough reps to me to get into
- 10:30Speaker 2: a rhythm of a game to be able to unleash
- 10:33Speaker 2: everything that he was capable of doing last year. But
- 10:36Speaker 2: you could see glimpses of it. And those glimpses made
- 10:39Speaker 2: you think of Cliff April, Like they don't have big,
- 10:43Speaker 2: huge biceps and like you know, Miles Garrett or somebody,
- 10:47Speaker 2: but man, they are slippery to get your hands on
- 10:50Speaker 2: them when you're trying to block them. They'd have like
- 10:52Speaker 2: this uncanny technique to be able to get off blocks
- 10:55Speaker 2: and get to the and close on the quarterback and
- 10:58Speaker 2: so and then they you know, if you look at
- 11:00Speaker 2: ma Fe, he's really good at setting the edge in
- 11:03Speaker 2: the run game. And so I will say I'm a
- 11:07Speaker 2: little bit surprised at how good he is as fast
- 11:11Speaker 2: as it has been, but it's something that you could
- 11:13Speaker 2: see coming if he just had the opportunities to get
- 11:16Speaker 2: into the rhythm, get more reps and understand the game
- 11:19Speaker 2: more and understand how people are attacking him and be
- 11:21Speaker 2: able to set up your pass rushing different things like that,
- 11:24Speaker 2: get a feel for what teams are trying to do.
- 11:26Speaker 2: But it's really awesome to see. I remember the first
- 11:30Speaker 2: time I met him. I was standing on the field
- 11:32Speaker 2: at practice and I had heard his name, but I
- 11:35Speaker 2: didn't quite know what he looked like. And he just
- 11:37Speaker 2: walked straight at me, like staring right at me. And
- 11:40Speaker 2: I'm thinking like, okay, what did I say to this
- 11:43Speaker 2: about this dude? Like who is this guy coming at
- 11:45Speaker 2: me like this? Like I'm ready to get bowled up?
- 11:47Speaker 2: Like what's happening? And he was just like, hey, how
- 11:50Speaker 2: you doing, sir? And I said, meet you. I was
- 11:51Speaker 2: just like, okay, kind of weird dude, but he is.
- 11:57Speaker 2: He is a really good football player.
- 11:59Speaker 4: Man.
- 11:59Speaker 2: He looks like he studies a game. He looks prepared.
- 12:02Speaker 2: Nothing seems to surprise him. You know, he probably could
- 12:04Speaker 2: have had another sack yesterday, but he anticipated the quarterback
- 12:08Speaker 2: throwing the ball and he jumped up instead of getting
- 12:11Speaker 2: the sack. And so I think of what four straight
- 12:14Speaker 2: games with a sack. And he's also like in the
- 12:16Speaker 2: top half and pressures and win rate by Pro football focused.
- 12:20Speaker 2: So the dude is having a real breakout season. And
- 12:23Speaker 2: because of all the other stuff, Witherspoon and some of
- 12:27Speaker 2: the some of the other people that are you know,
- 12:29Speaker 2: Jamal Adams. I don't think that people can hear his
- 12:31Speaker 2: thunder right now, but he's plumped some really good football.
- 12:34Speaker 7: Big Ray Roberts giving you everything you know breaking down
- 12:37Speaker 7: the Seahawks victory.
- 12:38Speaker 5: Big Ray, we appreciate you.
- 12:39Speaker 7: We will talk to you again on Sunday and on
- 12:42Speaker 7: Thursday if you guys listening to the huddle. But one
- 12:43Speaker 7: last thing for Ray, a little shout out Big Ray's
- 12:46Speaker 7: Garage Grind Mental Health Edition on Seahawks dot com and
- 12:49Speaker 7: anywhere you get your podcasts. A lot of big guests
- 12:51Speaker 7: coming up, So I appreciate everything you do, Ray, and
- 12:53Speaker 7: we'll talk to you soon.
- 12:54Speaker 10: Yes, sir, Thanks right, peace.
- 12:56Speaker 5: See what happened at first left?
- 13:00Speaker 1: What that happened was unhooked dark.
- 13:05Speaker 5: Bump Man.
- 13:05Speaker 7: This game, it felt close on the scoreboard, but to
- 13:09Speaker 7: me watching it, it never felt that way. It always
- 13:11Speaker 7: felt like the Seahawks were in control, even from the
- 13:13Speaker 7: opening possession. I don't know what it was, but that's
- 13:16Speaker 7: just kind of how I felt the game played out.
- 13:18Speaker 7: Games started with three punts with the Seahawks offense got
- 13:20Speaker 7: rolling on a three play sixty one yard drive that
- 13:23Speaker 7: ended with a Jackson Smith and jig but twenty yard
- 13:26Speaker 7: touchdown his first NFL touchdown. Bump called it all week
- 13:29Speaker 7: long and again on the pregame show that Jayson was
- 13:31Speaker 7: going to have a day.
- 13:32Speaker 5: What do you see from that man, Bump?
- 13:34Speaker 9: Well, guy playing fast man and his touchdown was nice.
- 13:37Speaker 9: And we watched his touchdown and we're like, nah, no way,
- 13:39Speaker 9: Buddha messed that coverage up. It might have been boot
- 13:42Speaker 9: as because he went with the corner and then Jay
- 13:45Speaker 9: Simmers running the post. He went over the top to
- 13:47Speaker 9: the corner and the quarterbacks to his side. It was like,
- 13:50Speaker 9: hold on, I got I got this deep area right
- 13:52Speaker 9: here and it slides underneath. So even the ballers make
- 13:56Speaker 9: some mistakes from time to time. But I just saw
- 13:58Speaker 9: him doing what he's supposed to do, him doing it fast,
- 14:00Speaker 9: and Gino getting the football out early as soon as
- 14:03Speaker 9: he hit that break and uh hitting him a stride. Man,
- 14:06Speaker 9: it was slightly behind him, but you know what, he's
- 14:08Speaker 9: a twentieth pick in the league. He can make that
- 14:10Speaker 9: pick man. Yeah. Uh, the Hawks was forced after that touchdown.
- 14:14Speaker 9: The Hawks of force are three now the next possession,
- 14:16Speaker 9: but then DJ Dallas will fumble the football on a punt.
- 14:19Speaker 9: I had been in those situations before. It is a
- 14:22Speaker 9: lonely feeling. So the Cardinals took over in the Seowks
- 14:24Speaker 9: thirty two yard line, and that foot will force Oh
- 14:27Speaker 9: it was forced by a guess who, Joey blunt Man.
- 14:30Speaker 10: I like that dude. I remember ruining him a few times.
- 14:33Speaker 10: Is he he's a Virginia guy?
- 14:34Speaker 5: Yeah, uva guy. So him and Ray close to Hyeah.
- 14:38Speaker 9: So Big Ray, you know, Big Ray lovet some some
- 14:39Speaker 9: Uva guys. But the Hawks defense will hold the Cardinals
- 14:42Speaker 9: to a field goal, making the score seventy three. Then
- 14:44Speaker 9: the Hawks will punt on the next drive, and the
- 14:45Speaker 9: Cardinals will respond by going down the field eighty yards
- 14:48Speaker 9: on eight plays.
- 14:50Speaker 10: And Josh dopped almost made a mistake.
- 14:53Speaker 9: Man Devin Witherspoon goes up, he drops into the deep third,
- 14:57Speaker 9: snatches the football out the air, dobs looking for the
- 14:59Speaker 9: corner instead of taking a knee with the Spoon goes nah,
- 15:03Speaker 9: I'm getting money. He exits the end zone, spins makes
- 15:06Speaker 9: a guy miss Boom gets up like the fifteen of
- 15:08Speaker 9: the twenty yard line.
- 15:09Speaker 10: But there are yellow flags everywhere.
- 15:12Speaker 9: All started with the rough and the passer, and then
- 15:14Speaker 9: you get a person foul on Brooks. Then you get
- 15:16Speaker 9: a personal foul on number seventy four for there's the Cardinals.
- 15:19Speaker 10: I forgot who it is.
- 15:20Speaker 9: But with all that being said, the Cardinals retained the
- 15:22Speaker 9: football and Devin with a Spoon was robbed of his
- 15:25Speaker 9: second pick.
- 15:26Speaker 5: He was robbed Man.
- 15:27Speaker 7: I ah, that play bothered me, man because he did
- 15:29Speaker 7: everything he was supposed to do. The rough in the
- 15:31Speaker 7: passer call was so late it didn't have any impact
- 15:34Speaker 7: on the ball. Dobs through with the sweeters, makes a
- 15:37Speaker 7: great interception and he takes it out of the end
- 15:40Speaker 7: zone and all hell breaks loose. Maybe he just takes
- 15:43Speaker 7: a knee, maybe there's no flags. Who knows what happens,
- 15:46Speaker 7: but he didn't. Then Dobbs ran in for a twenty
- 15:48Speaker 7: five yard touchdown that made the score ten to seven. Hawks,
- 15:52Speaker 7: though they respond with the driver of their own, going
- 15:54Speaker 7: seventy six yards on nine plays as Gino Smith found
- 15:57Speaker 7: Jake Bobo in the back of the end zone from
- 15:59Speaker 7: eighteen yards out. Bubbo originally was ruled out of bounds
- 16:02Speaker 7: when he Carol won his challenge. The calls overturned for
- 16:05Speaker 7: a touchdown. The Hawks took the lead fourteen to ten
- 16:08Speaker 7: going in the second half.
- 16:10Speaker 9: Hey in the second half, the Seahawks will shoot themselves
- 16:12Speaker 9: in the foot, turn the ball over twice. You get
- 16:14Speaker 9: that interception and the fumble by You know, he's got
- 16:17Speaker 9: to clean that up. A lot of people are looking
- 16:18Speaker 9: at these these two mistakes and they're blowing it up.
- 16:22Speaker 2: Right.
- 16:22Speaker 10: Of course, you want him to take care of the football.
- 16:24Speaker 10: And understand that.
- 16:25Speaker 9: I was on the show today and I go, all,
- 16:26Speaker 9: do you realize he is two less touchdowns and two
- 16:31Speaker 9: more picks than he was last year at this point,
- 16:33Speaker 9: It's not like he's playing horrible football, but you do
- 16:36Speaker 9: have to take care of the football.
- 16:37Speaker 10: So let's clean that up.
- 16:39Speaker 9: But the defense, he was strong man, allowing no point
- 16:42Speaker 9: and the Hawks would do just enough in this half,
- 16:45Speaker 9: adding two field goals, hold it down twenty ten. You
- 16:48Speaker 9: take the wins. However, you can gotta clean some stuff up.
- 16:50Speaker 9: Defense look good, offense looked good at times. Gena was
- 16:52Speaker 9: like thirteen to fifteen in the first half, one hundred
- 16:55Speaker 9: and forty six two touchdowns. Just got to clean up
- 16:57Speaker 9: that second half.
- 16:58Speaker 7: Wins are wins man in the NFL, don't apologize for him.
- 17:00Speaker 7: Do not apologize for wins. Like you said, we can
- 17:03Speaker 7: clean some things up. Pete Carroll mentioned on his show
- 17:06Speaker 7: this morning that Bubba could have helped him a little
- 17:08Speaker 7: bit on that deep route. Geno knows he needs to
- 17:10Speaker 7: take care of the ball a little better, and I
- 17:11Speaker 7: think he's gonna do that. So I got no complaints there.
- 17:13Speaker 7: Like I said, a win's a win. But let's keep
- 17:16Speaker 7: it moving. Let's figure out who made some plays.
- 17:18Speaker 5: Playmakers touch, playmakers.
- 17:25Speaker 4: Told him what time it is?
- 17:27Speaker 5: Holy bump, you said it, man.
- 17:31Speaker 7: Jordan Brooks had one of the best games I've seen
- 17:34Speaker 7: him play in his career as a Seattle Seahawk. Nine tackles,
- 17:38Speaker 7: six solo, half a sack, two TFLs, one pass defended,
- 17:42Speaker 7: one QB hit, and for a time there in the
- 17:44Speaker 7: second half, I felt like he made every single tackle.
- 17:46Speaker 7: I kept looking up, I go fifty six. Oh, okay,
- 17:49Speaker 7: that's fifty six. Oh that's fifty six and an animated
- 17:52Speaker 7: version of Jordan Brooks man. I don't think I've ever seen.
- 17:53Speaker 7: He's a man possessed out there, and I just love
- 17:56Speaker 7: everything and see that is the guy they drafted.
- 17:57Speaker 5: For sure, He's shown glimpse of that.
- 17:59Speaker 7: He's been that player at times and then obviously Tursday
- 18:02Speaker 7: cw coming back from that. But what Jordan Brooks is
- 18:04Speaker 7: doing right now is unbelievable because he's playing at an
- 18:06Speaker 7: all pro level and I finally think he's starting to
- 18:09Speaker 7: get some of the respect from outside of the Seahawks
- 18:11Speaker 7: circle into what he's doing right now.
- 18:14Speaker 10: It's playing like a missile out there.
- 18:16Speaker 9: When he decides he's going after somebody with the football,
- 18:19Speaker 9: there's no hesitation.
- 18:21Speaker 10: It's all speed and violence. I love it.
- 18:23Speaker 9: Now this young man, Boye Mafe is leading the team
- 18:27Speaker 9: with four sacks. Man he had three tackles, two solo,
- 18:30Speaker 9: one TfL, quarterback hid a sack, one pass defended, and
- 18:34Speaker 9: you see him everywhere.
- 18:35Speaker 10: When he was drafted out of Minnesota.
- 18:37Speaker 9: That was kind of the thing, right He started playing
- 18:39Speaker 9: football in high school, so didn't have a lot of reps,
- 18:42Speaker 9: but was a student of the game and was invited
- 18:44Speaker 9: to the senior ball and would do exactly what he
- 18:47Speaker 9: was told to do when it came to the coaching.
- 18:49Speaker 9: And I think that that's what kind of gravitated some
- 18:51Speaker 9: of these coaches to him, though I look, he's so
- 18:53Speaker 9: young in his development. Whatever we say his goal, I
- 18:56Speaker 9: think he's taking the coach and now he's allowing himself
- 18:59Speaker 9: to beat him self out there too.
- 19:00Speaker 10: Man.
- 19:01Speaker 7: I love seeing boy MafA you do his thing. Yeah, man,
- 19:04Speaker 7: he is crushing it. Leading the team in sacks. I
- 19:06Speaker 7: definitely would have thought, you know, Chenna or Dt or
- 19:09Speaker 7: one of those guys might be the team leader. But
- 19:11Speaker 7: if boy keeps this up, man, he's gonna have some
- 19:13Speaker 7: crazy numbers. Stick it on that side of the ball.
- 19:16Speaker 7: Devin Witherspoon, my goodness, man, four tackles, one pass offended,
- 19:21Speaker 7: one interception called back after penalty, one sack also called
- 19:26Speaker 7: back after penalty. But man, this dude, all he does
- 19:30Speaker 7: is make plays. When he hit when he hit Rondelle Moore,
- 19:33Speaker 7: I believe it was my goodness. I was, Oh my man,
- 19:36Speaker 7: that dude has a family dog like that's we felt
- 19:40Speaker 7: that hit in the booth because he's just every time
- 19:44Speaker 7: I watch him play, I talk about it almost every week.
- 19:46Speaker 7: I'm a broken record. It's explosiveness. It's the way he
- 19:48Speaker 7: plays the game. Just like Jordan Brooks talking about no hesitation,
- 19:51Speaker 7: Devon Witherspoon changes what we can do as a defense.
- 19:54Speaker 7: And this is this guy's the limit. We're just getting
- 19:57Speaker 7: started with that kid.
- 20:00Speaker 10: As Jordan said, the ceiling is the roof for that kid.
- 20:04Speaker 9: The thing is the roof. You bet billion is the roof, right, Julia.
- 20:11Speaker 9: This was his best game as a Seahawk, for sure.
- 20:14Speaker 9: And I think we're saying some of the same things
- 20:16Speaker 9: about these guys, right, no hesitation flying to the football,
- 20:19Speaker 9: and I think that's a clear indication that they're selling
- 20:22Speaker 9: into their understanding what Clinton Hurt want for them. But
- 20:24Speaker 9: Adreinia Love had six tackles, five solo, one pass defended,
- 20:28Speaker 9: and just seemed to be everywhere at some point. So
- 20:30Speaker 9: everyone took their turn have their moments. There are like
- 20:32Speaker 9: a few players in a row or Jay Love looked nice.
- 20:35Speaker 9: Then you mentioned Brooks. It's nice to have a defense
- 20:38Speaker 9: that's multiple guys playing with high speed in tempo.
- 20:42Speaker 10: Jay Love is one of those guys.
- 20:43Speaker 9: And then Gino Smith eighteen to twenty four, two nineteen
- 20:46Speaker 9: two touchdowns. He did have an interception, but the QB
- 20:48Speaker 9: rating of one thirteen. He still completed seventy five percent
- 20:51Speaker 9: of his passes. He still had some crucial third downs
- 20:54Speaker 9: scrambles and throws. Tyler Lockett had a couple of third downs.
- 20:58Speaker 9: He scrambled for a couple of third downs. It was
- 21:00Speaker 9: there were seven to thirteen on third downs. I believe
- 21:03Speaker 9: the best they've been all year, and it stays to
- 21:05Speaker 9: Gino Gott to erase those those turnovers.
- 21:07Speaker 10: But Gino had a good game.
- 21:09Speaker 7: Yeah, I think he's right there, man, he's right there.
- 21:12Speaker 7: I think just their entire offense is right there of
- 21:13Speaker 7: getting to where they need to go to turn the
- 21:15Speaker 7: corner and really ascend here.
- 21:16Speaker 5: But Gino's playing good ball.
- 21:18Speaker 7: Going out to your guys, the receivers, Bobo and Jack
- 21:21Speaker 7: and Smith the jigb but both of them they combined
- 21:23Speaker 7: for eight receptions one hundred and twenty three yards, two touchdowns,
- 21:28Speaker 7: Jake Bobo to clutch third down reception, Jack Smith and
- 21:31Speaker 7: Jigbick at his first touchdown, And they said some records man,
- 21:34Speaker 7: Sunday was the first time Seattle had two rookie wide
- 21:37Speaker 7: receivers record a touchdown reception in the same game. So
- 21:40Speaker 7: love to see that because now they did all this
- 21:43Speaker 7: again without DK metcalf in a lot of weeks. That
- 21:46Speaker 7: would be the headline, bump is that DK didn't play.
- 21:48Speaker 7: How do we recover? Not even really a storyline because
- 21:51Speaker 7: those guys played so well. And then then you had
- 21:54Speaker 7: Ken Walker twenty six one hundred and five season hind
- 21:57Speaker 7: carries and yards.
- 21:58Speaker 5: So this offense is turning their game close. They're getting close.
- 22:01Speaker 10: Yeah, man, they're spreading the love. Man, Let's look at
- 22:03Speaker 10: this wide receiver round up.
- 22:05Speaker 9: You mentioned Jackson Smith and Jago four for sixty three,
- 22:07Speaker 9: a long of twenty eight that was a touchdown. Bubble
- 22:10Speaker 9: had four for sixty one and long and thirty one.
- 22:12Speaker 9: Tyler Lockett four for thirty eight, a quiet but effective
- 22:15Speaker 9: four for thirty eight. Kobe Parkson had two for twenty six,
- 22:18Speaker 9: a long of twenty seven. Titands got this offense going.
- 22:21Speaker 9: In the second half, Kobe Parkson had a big reception.
- 22:24Speaker 9: Then no offense had one for twenty five. He had
- 22:26Speaker 9: a big reception, tight catch in between two receivers. Ken
- 22:29Speaker 9: Walker had two for six, dropped once where he could
- 22:31Speaker 9: have gotten some money.
- 22:32Speaker 10: Then DJ Dallas had one catch no yards.
- 22:37Speaker 7: Looking better every week, man, I like the diversity in there.
- 22:40Speaker 7: Obviously we get some of those receptions up a little bit.
- 22:43Speaker 7: But if Gino's throwing the ball around twenty five times
- 22:45Speaker 7: and we're running twenty six times, that's usually a recipe
- 22:48Speaker 7: for a Seahawk victory.
- 22:50Speaker 5: Now, let's flip it over the coaches corner.
- 22:51Speaker 7: When we talked about it, earlier, Genosman finds Jake Bubbo
- 22:55Speaker 7: for an eighteen yard touchdown. Upon further review, Obo comes
- 22:59Speaker 7: why run his locket slotted inside of him on first
- 23:02Speaker 7: and ten ball of.
- 23:03Speaker 4: The eighteen yard line, So you know again hastime looking
- 23:07Speaker 4: now he's.
- 23:07Speaker 10: Going to go to the end zone.
- 23:08Speaker 1: Bobo's out here.
- 23:09Speaker 3: Jump ball.
- 23:10Speaker 4: Bobo makes a catch, but I think he's out of
- 23:12Speaker 4: the end zone. He comes down with that because he
- 23:15Speaker 4: has the ball in his hands.
- 23:16Speaker 10: I think he still hasn't his hands.
- 23:18Speaker 5: He's talking to the official.
- 23:20Speaker 4: He caught it and he fell out of bounds, could
- 23:23Speaker 4: not get that second foot in. We're looking at Pete
- 23:26Speaker 4: to see if he's going to drop the red flag
- 23:27Speaker 4: he's got in his hand.
- 23:29Speaker 5: He's now he throws it.
- 23:31Speaker 3: He was waiting for the guys upstairs here to get
- 23:34Speaker 3: a good look well while we were away. It is,
- 23:38Speaker 3: in fact a touchdown by Jake Bobo from eighteen yards
- 23:42Speaker 3: out one hand and got one foot in and.
- 23:45Speaker 10: Then the toenails on his right foot.
- 23:48Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 23:48Speaker 9: Man, this was a big bull type of play. People
- 23:53Speaker 9: see the end results of this and you should Bob.
- 23:55Speaker 9: We'll bidy control going to catching the football tiptoes Uh
- 23:59Speaker 9: get in that. But what he did to set this
- 24:01Speaker 9: up was pretty man. He has a slow release. Man,
- 24:04Speaker 9: I call it a tempo release. He knows he's one
- 24:07Speaker 9: on one, takes a one stride and a skip right
- 24:10Speaker 9: foot in the ground, sells the slant if you pause it.
- 24:13Speaker 9: When his right foot hits the ground and then he
- 24:14Speaker 9: gets left foot, everything in his body says this is
- 24:17Speaker 9: a slam. There's no way this dB is not buying
- 24:20Speaker 9: what's happening in front of him. Then he gets to
- 24:22Speaker 9: that second time, get into that left foot and boom,
- 24:24Speaker 9: snaps it off and shows a twitch that a guy
- 24:27Speaker 9: who uns a four to nine piplicate does not have.
- 24:29Speaker 10: Right, he's got that twitch.
- 24:31Speaker 9: Then he works to the sideline and Gino says, look,
- 24:33Speaker 9: we've done this in practice for a few months. Now,
- 24:36Speaker 9: you're six ' four, go up and get the ball.
- 24:39Speaker 9: I'm gonna give you a chance, not much else to that.
- 24:42Speaker 9: You win your one on one battles, you sell the slant,
- 24:45Speaker 9: you give yourself a chance to get some levers on
- 24:48Speaker 9: the dB, and Gino drops a dime, and then you
- 24:50Speaker 9: just show the athleticism. He is way more athletic than
- 24:54Speaker 9: his combine numbers will make you believe.
- 24:57Speaker 10: That he is.
- 24:58Speaker 7: His combine numbers are a far star. I mean, forget
- 25:02Speaker 7: about the straight line stuff. If you watch him as
- 25:04Speaker 7: football player, he's strong. He gets after people in the
- 25:06Speaker 7: run game, blocking, and you can you watch this route
- 25:09Speaker 7: if this if this route was ran at UCLA, he
- 25:12Speaker 7: had been opened by fifty yards like the DV wouldn't
- 25:15Speaker 7: have been anywhere close. Obviously, this is the NFL, so
- 25:18Speaker 7: those guys get paid too. But you're right when you
- 25:20Speaker 7: sell that slant, the third step of a slant the
- 25:23Speaker 7: way he was running it. Yeah, I'm jumping that too.
- 25:25Speaker 7: It's late in the route, and oh my goodness. I
- 25:28Speaker 7: mean that's and that's the thing he's gonna He's gonna
- 25:30Speaker 7: make a lot of money in and maybe not a
- 25:31Speaker 7: lot of money. He's gonna play a long time in
- 25:33Speaker 7: this league giving stuff like that, blocking and just being reliable.
- 25:38Speaker 7: I'm telling you right now, Bump, I said it last night.
- 25:40Speaker 7: Bubbo's gonna play at least ten years in the league.
- 25:43Speaker 7: At least ten years. But because of the what he
- 25:46Speaker 7: brings to the table. So love seeing that. I also
- 25:49Speaker 7: love the victory formation is what we got to see yesterday.
- 25:54Speaker 3: Here comes the Seahawk offense onto the field and the
- 25:57Speaker 3: Vikings defense crunching out there knowing that one meal down
- 26:03Speaker 3: and the Seahawks are gonna wind the clock down and
- 26:06Speaker 3: win this one.
- 26:06Speaker 1: It's the victory formation on Hawk Talk.
- 26:10Speaker 7: Wasn't the pretty prettiest win, but the Seahawks get it
- 26:12Speaker 7: done when it counted the most and get a huge
- 26:14Speaker 7: win in the NFC West. And when I say prettiest,
- 26:16Speaker 7: that doesn't mean anything wins or wins in the NFL,
- 26:18Speaker 7: like I said before, and how many games actually ending blowouts.
- 26:22Speaker 7: Even when the Seahawks won the Super Bowl, they weren't
- 26:24Speaker 7: blowing guys out every single week.
- 26:25Speaker 5: So love what we saw there.
- 26:27Speaker 7: Holding the Cardinals to just ten points two hundred and
- 26:29Speaker 7: four to nine yards of total offense. That is the
- 26:31Speaker 7: third week in a row they've held opponents under two
- 26:34Speaker 7: hundred and fifty yards. So this defense is bond and
- 26:36Speaker 7: they're playing really good football, which bodes well for the
- 26:38Speaker 7: Seahawks and moving forward.
- 26:40Speaker 9: Yeah, and they handled the smartest man in the NFL,
- 26:43Speaker 9: Josh Dobbs. Is this one hundred and forty six passing
- 26:46Speaker 9: yards and the Cardinals were five of fifteen on third downs,
- 26:50Speaker 9: aero for three on fourth down. Like we mentioned, Jordan
- 26:53Speaker 9: Brooks start of the defense. My man was all over
- 26:56Speaker 9: the field, and if Devin Witherspoon didn't have those penalties,
- 27:00Speaker 9: might be talking more about him. But it's all good, man,
- 27:02Speaker 9: but you see what he can do. We haven't played
- 27:04Speaker 9: a game in the last month to where we didn't
- 27:07Speaker 9: recognize the young man for his talents.
- 27:10Speaker 5: No question about it. Man. Then you said it earlier.
- 27:12Speaker 7: We talked about the receivers both playing really well, picked
- 27:15Speaker 7: up the slack without DK Metcalf. Hopefully DK is back
- 27:18Speaker 7: next week because if you got all those guys playing
- 27:20Speaker 7: like their way they're playing right now, it's gonna be
- 27:22Speaker 7: really tough for defenses against this receiving corps. And then
- 27:24Speaker 7: the rookie olu Oli Timmy did a great job stepping
- 27:27Speaker 7: in for Evan Brown. Ray touched on it earlier. When
- 27:29Speaker 7: you watch that game, nothing felt like, oh man, we're
- 27:32Speaker 7: starting a rookie center and our guys in out there.
- 27:35Speaker 7: So shout out to olu Oli, Timmy and that offensive
- 27:37Speaker 7: line is a unit for just continuing to step up
- 27:39Speaker 7: week after week.
- 27:40Speaker 9: Yeah, buddy and olu bigges Oli. We had them on
- 27:43Speaker 9: our show on Thursday, and bright young man. It's always
- 27:47Speaker 9: like when guys are solid people that you see him
- 27:49Speaker 9: go out there and ball.
- 27:50Speaker 10: But I think it's really all about this defense, right.
- 27:52Speaker 9: I mean, they're showing him that they are an explosive defense.
- 27:56Speaker 9: They will hit you, they'll fly around, and they can
- 27:59Speaker 9: hold it down for this man. Seahawks improved a foreign
- 28:01Speaker 9: two in the season. I think got the big showdown
- 28:03Speaker 9: next week. I guess the four and two Cleveland Browns,
- 28:07Speaker 9: they'll be wearing the throwback Jersey's going to be as
- 28:09Speaker 9: one of the best defenses in the league. I'm excited. Man,
- 28:12Speaker 9: this is a four and two team. I think they're
- 28:14Speaker 9: fourth in the NFC right now, let's get to five
- 28:15Speaker 9: and two.
- 28:17Speaker 5: Yeah, man, this is gonna be a huge game.
- 28:19Speaker 7: Probably not the ones that people circled on the calendar
- 28:21Speaker 7: when the schedule came out, other than the throwback game,
- 28:23Speaker 7: but it's gonna be a big one. Bump and I
- 28:25Speaker 7: are gonna do some research. Will be back at on
- 28:27Speaker 7: Wednesday breaking down that Cleveland Browns on Hawk Talk. Remember
