- 0:02Speaker 1: The issues, the interviews and the inside Ryan Bridge on
- 0:06Speaker 1: early edition with one roof make your property search simple,
- 0:11Speaker 1: US dogs, that'd be.
- 0:13Speaker 2: Good morning, Welcome to your Monday, Judith Collins live on
- 0:16Speaker 2: those new choppers. Any of our soldiers going to get
- 0:19Speaker 2: a pay rise out of this, We'll ask. We'll also
- 0:21Speaker 2: love to Australia to figure out exactly why Elbow won
- 0:25Speaker 2: and increased his majority over there. Gavin Gray and the
- 0:28Speaker 2: UK su Moranian terrorists are suspected of targeting a specific site.
- 0:33Speaker 2: We'll ask him which one? Plus Andrew Allison here was sport,
- 0:37Speaker 2: the Warriors, great Liam laws and goods. But then what
- 0:39Speaker 2: happened to his points? Super Rugby? So much to talk about,
- 0:43Speaker 2: Good morning.
- 0:46Speaker 1: The agenda.
- 0:47Speaker 2: It is Monday, the fifth of May. The Hut, he's
- 0:49Speaker 2: still not under control. Clearly they've hit inside Israel and
- 0:53Speaker 2: airport and Tel Aviv Netanyah. He's going to hit them
- 0:55Speaker 2: right back.
- 0:57Speaker 3: Israel.
- 0:58Speaker 4: Also, the US and the UK have carried out a
- 1:01Speaker 4: number of strikes on Houthi targets in Yaman to try
- 1:06Speaker 4: to not only stop these attacks from the hoof thats
- 1:08Speaker 4: on Israel, but also to stop attacks that the Houthis
- 1:12Speaker 4: have carried out on commercial ships in the red.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Seat to the US. Is he gonna was he joking?
- 1:19Speaker 2: Does he want to be a dictator? This is Trump
- 1:22Speaker 2: and a potential third term. He's just said this on NBC.
- 1:25Speaker 5: This is not something I'm looking to do.
- 1:27Speaker 2: But I think we're gonna have four years, and I
- 1:29Speaker 2: think four years is plenty of time to do something
- 1:31Speaker 2: really spectacular. We're across the Tasman on the election shortly,
- 1:34Speaker 2: but doesn't losing his seat up to twenty four years
- 1:37Speaker 2: is a bit embarrassing. Now.
- 1:38Speaker 6: We didn't do well enough during this campaign. That much
- 1:41Speaker 6: is obvious tonight and I accept full responsibility for that.
- 1:45Speaker 2: Finally, Cabana Beach, Brazil, somebody was going to bomb and
- 1:50Speaker 2: Lady Gaga concert. The cop stopped at Constant when he
- 1:52Speaker 2: had two million turned up.
- 1:54Speaker 7: They arrested two people and it was a plot orchestrated
- 1:57Speaker 7: by group writing hate speech and the radicalization of teenagers,
- 2:01Speaker 7: which includes self harm and violent content in a form
- 2:05Speaker 7: of social belonging. That was the whole point of this group,
- 2:08Speaker 7: according to Civil Please.
- 2:10Speaker 2: That's your agenda for Monday morning, eight after five on.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Your radio and online on iHeartRadio Early Edition with Ryan
- 2:19Speaker 1: Bridge and one roof. Make your property search simple if
- 2:23Speaker 1: you talk, said.
- 2:23Speaker 2: Be Steve says, good morning, Ryan. I think people don't
- 2:26Speaker 2: like men with shaved bald heads e g. Dussn't and Luxon, Well,
- 2:30Speaker 2: Luxon did win an election. Remember that Dussin obviously hasn't
- 2:35Speaker 2: and quite spectacularly failed doing so. But what's worse than
- 2:40Speaker 2: what else do you mean to do? If your head
- 2:42Speaker 2: is balding, but shave it. You know what's worse than
- 2:45Speaker 2: a bald man with a shaved head is a bald
- 2:48Speaker 2: man with a patchy head. I would have thought. Anyway,
- 2:52Speaker 2: Good morning to you. Great to have your company so
- 2:54Speaker 2: much to talk about today around the world, but also
- 2:56Speaker 2: here we'll talk about those c Sprite helicopters. First, watch
- 2:59Speaker 2: that pre conference yesterday with Judith Collins. Look, there's some
- 3:02Speaker 2: good stuff in there. You've got nine hundred and fifty
- 3:04Speaker 2: seven million over four years in your estate, your personnel,
- 3:08Speaker 2: that is good. The missions. They're going to sale more,
- 3:11Speaker 2: they're going to fly more, they're going to train more,
- 3:13Speaker 2: they're going to operate more. They're going to get better housing,
- 3:16Speaker 2: they're going to get better kit. You're going to get
- 3:19Speaker 2: more money in your pocket. You're going to go further,
- 3:22Speaker 2: for longer, and more often on missions. If you're a soldier,
- 3:25Speaker 2: if you work in the defense force, that is awesome.
- 3:27Speaker 2: That's great news. It's exactly what you want to be doing,
- 3:30Speaker 2: not sitting out the back of some MiQ facility. There's
- 3:34Speaker 2: no economic prosperity without security, is the government's line. I
- 3:39Speaker 2: wonder how how people feel, whether there's enough impetus around that,
- 3:44Speaker 2: whether people agree with that enough to be spending the
- 3:47Speaker 2: kind of money that we're about to be spending. No
- 3:49Speaker 2: doubt we've got to spend it, but I wonder whether
- 3:51Speaker 2: people are on board with it at this point. So
- 3:54Speaker 2: we'll get some new helicopters, But are they at risk
- 3:58Speaker 2: the government? Are they at risk of making announcements about announcements.
- 4:02Speaker 2: This is actually not even an announcement about an announcement.
- 4:05Speaker 2: It's an announcement about an announcement about an announcement because
- 4:10Speaker 2: they haven't even got a business case through cabinet. All
- 4:13Speaker 2: they're announcing is that they have put some money aside
- 4:15Speaker 2: from five Sea Sprite helicopters. They haven't got a business
- 4:19Speaker 2: case through cabinet yet. So you've got nothing ordered, you've
- 4:22Speaker 2: got no contract signed, you haven't even got a request
- 4:25Speaker 2: for a procurement process to kick off. Yet it'd be
- 4:29Speaker 2: like telling your friends you go and buy a house
- 4:31Speaker 2: and your wife actually hasn't agreed to it yet. You
- 4:33Speaker 2: know it's pointless, isn't it. I don't know. They do
- 4:39Speaker 2: run the rest. Remember that was the syndrome that befell
- 4:41Speaker 2: the previous government. So just be careful due to Collins
- 4:44Speaker 2: is on the program just before six this morning, so
- 4:47Speaker 2: we'll talk to her about that. Some excellent news. This
- 4:50Speaker 2: is to kick you off on a positive note for
- 4:52Speaker 2: your Monday morning. This is fantastic because we know that
- 4:55Speaker 2: our kids reading and writing and maths and everything has
- 4:58Speaker 2: been a bit shye lately. Well, promising signs out of Northland.
- 5:03Speaker 2: This was a story up from Friday. And remember the
- 5:05Speaker 2: NZDA are the unions pushed back on structured literacy. This
- 5:10Speaker 2: is where you make this the sound out the words.
- 5:13Speaker 2: You sound out the sounds and then you make the words.
- 5:17Speaker 2: Made sense when I went to school, but it all
- 5:18Speaker 2: changed and it all went up the wazoo. Anyway, Early
- 5:21Speaker 2: findings from Northland positive results for sounding out your words
- 5:27Speaker 2: at least this is term one. The government's brought this in.
- 5:30Speaker 2: Early findings from ero two things to watch for. Half
- 5:34Speaker 2: of teachers report that structured literacy approaches have improved student
- 5:38Speaker 2: engagement a lot. Three quarters of teachers say structured literacy
- 5:43Speaker 2: approaches have improved literacy for most students. That is fantastic. Yes,
- 5:49Speaker 2: it's early days, but it's fantastic news. And who would
- 5:53Speaker 2: have thought because the unions didn't like it, they're going
- 5:58Speaker 2: to have to now maybe they're wrong about charter schools too.
- 6:01Speaker 2: Maybe they are. Twelve minutes after five news talks, there'd
- 6:04Speaker 2: b will get to Ozzie next for the election.
- 6:07Speaker 1: Ryan Bridge on Illly edition, Where's one roof make your
- 6:10Speaker 1: Property Search Simple?
- 6:12Speaker 2: Youth Talk zebby interesting fourteen minutes after five news talks said,
- 6:16Speaker 2: be Singaporeans. They have kept their incumbent too. This is
- 6:19Speaker 2: the PAP Party governed them since nineteen fifty nine. If
- 6:22Speaker 2: you've been to Singapore, you know it is a democracy.
- 6:25Speaker 2: They do have free and fair elections, but there's derrymandering
- 6:29Speaker 2: that goes on. The media is all controlled up the wazoos,
- 6:31Speaker 2: so you wouldn't call it a strict democracy in the
- 6:34Speaker 2: way that we know it. But anyway, they've kept their
- 6:36Speaker 2: lot and romania while you know Australia and Canada running
- 6:40Speaker 2: a mile from Trump, Romania running towards him. This is Simeon.
- 6:44Speaker 2: He's the thirty eight year old says he's a natural
- 6:46Speaker 2: ally of Trump. He liked Trump and like Vance, don't
- 6:50Speaker 2: like support for Ukraine. He borders Ukraine anyway. He's having
- 6:53Speaker 2: a second round of voting. Looks like he'll get through too.
- 6:56Speaker 2: It is quarter past five, Rayan Bridge, so Elbow's done it.
- 7:00Speaker 2: First Labor prime minister since Hawk to go back to
- 7:02Speaker 2: back today.
- 7:04Speaker 5: The Australian people have voted for Australian values, for fairness,
- 7:13Speaker 5: aspiration and opportunity for all.
- 7:18Speaker 2: And he gets a bigger majority, which means that you
- 7:21Speaker 2: gave Paul we told you about on Friday was pretty
- 7:23Speaker 2: much on the money. The trivia on the opposition benches grim.
- 7:27Speaker 2: No federal opposition leader has lost their electric seat during
- 7:30Speaker 2: an Australian election general election until Dutton lost his at
- 7:35Speaker 2: the weekend. Leslie Yeomans, Australia correspondent, Good.
- 7:38Speaker 8: Morning, Good morning Ryan.
- 7:40Speaker 2: It's never one thing that loses you an election or
- 7:43Speaker 2: wins it was it uncertainty about Trump was dust and
- 7:47Speaker 2: crap on the campaign trail. I mean I don't get
- 7:49Speaker 2: the sense that this was we love elbow. Was it? No?
- 7:55Speaker 9: And you're right, there wasn't one thing. The Liberals were
- 8:00Speaker 9: pretty crap on the campaign trail, putting it bluntly. Look,
- 8:05Speaker 9: there's never ever really one thing that the whole electorate,
- 8:11Speaker 9: the whole voting population votes for a reason.
- 8:16Speaker 8: The Liberals just had a.
- 8:18Speaker 9: Really bad campaign and people didn't like Peter Dutton as
- 8:22Speaker 9: a possible prime minister, and the fact that he lost
- 8:25Speaker 9: his seat like John Howard did. John Howard lost his
- 8:28Speaker 9: seat back in and was it keven O seven two
- 8:32Speaker 9: thousand and seven, wasn't it? John Howard lost his seat.
- 8:36Speaker 9: Tony Abbott lost his seat eventually, So now Dutton's lost
- 8:40Speaker 9: his and he's lost it to a woman by the
- 8:43Speaker 9: name of Ali France, and it was her third time
- 8:47Speaker 9: going up against him in his seat Queensland Seed of Dixon.
- 8:51Speaker 9: She was just just kept eating away at his small
- 8:56Speaker 9: majority and got there in the end. And not just
- 9:01Speaker 9: though every state went towards labor, and one of the
- 9:06Speaker 9: comments on Saturday night was that Victoria is generally a
- 9:11Speaker 9: very labor state. It's one of the most progressive states
- 9:15Speaker 9: in the country, and Victoria was lagging behind because it
- 9:18Speaker 9: wasn't as far ahead showing the swing to labor as
- 9:23Speaker 9: everyone else. It was sort of like very very funny
- 9:26Speaker 9: to watch, to be honest. But now in Victoria, even
- 9:30Speaker 9: labor there has It's gone from no liberal MPs in
- 9:38Speaker 9: city at all in any of the metropolitan areas. Same
- 9:41Speaker 9: with South Australia. In Tasmania they had two liberal MPs
- 9:45Speaker 9: down there. They lost both of those. So all of
- 9:48Speaker 9: Tasmania is now labor except for one seat, and that's
- 9:51Speaker 9: in Hobart where there is an independent who was a
- 9:54Speaker 9: long standing independent in Hobart. Every state has gone red
- 9:59Speaker 9: to labor and and it's it's been just a pretty
- 10:02Speaker 9: amazing sort of thing. You know, when some of the
- 10:04Speaker 9: polls were saying that there was a possibility of a
- 10:07Speaker 9: labor minority government or even a liberal win or it
- 10:11Speaker 9: just went hold my beer, not now we're going, We're
- 10:16Speaker 9: going all the way.
- 10:18Speaker 2: Great, great analysis of it. Leslie, really appreciate that. This morning,
- 10:21Speaker 2: Leslie Oman's our Australia correspondent. I've got a few thoughts
- 10:24Speaker 2: on this. I've getten to you before half pass next.
- 10:27Speaker 2: Andrew Alison, with all of that beautiful sport from the weekend, the.
- 10:32Speaker 1: News you need this morning and the in depth analysis
- 10:35Speaker 1: early edition with Ryan Bridge and one roof make your
- 10:38Speaker 1: Property search Simple News Talks.
- 10:41Speaker 2: It'd be five twenty one, News Talk said be due
- 10:43Speaker 2: to Collins here before six Andrew Alison was sport. Good morning,
- 10:46Speaker 2: Greeting's right, I haven't seen you in a while.
- 10:48Speaker 10: Yeah, I just had the autumnal break.
- 10:50Speaker 2: Lovely nice way nice, thanks very much.
- 10:54Speaker 1: Ron.
- 10:54Speaker 2: Hey, Warrior is doing really well?
- 10:56Speaker 10: Oh is there a team in world sport that takes
- 10:59Speaker 10: you on a high and you know, troughs and peaks
- 11:02Speaker 10: more than the Warriors. I watched that game, or at
- 11:03Speaker 10: least the second half of it on the weekend and
- 11:06Speaker 10: against the Cowboy is the four point win, but gee,
- 11:08Speaker 10: what they're up twenty eight to twelve at halftime, I think,
- 11:12Speaker 10: and yeah, cursing them one minute and cheering them the next,
- 11:15Speaker 10: that really is.
- 11:17Speaker 2: Quite the ride.
- 11:18Speaker 10: And they got their end. Have moved now to well
- 11:20Speaker 10: they would temporarily top of the table, but with the
- 11:23Speaker 10: Bulldogs winning again, so they've moved out sixteen points. So
- 11:27Speaker 10: the Warriors fourteenth and third on points differential.
- 11:30Speaker 2: Fantastic. We'll keep that up, won't meet lawson named Lawson
- 11:33Speaker 2: got some funny weekend for him too. But he will
- 11:35Speaker 2: start fifteen Miami. He will of course the sprint race.
- 11:39Speaker 10: The controversy there Fernando Alonso the turn eleven, turn twelve,
- 11:44Speaker 10: I think Lawson was a head and twelve, but he
- 11:47Speaker 10: needed to give a loonzo room. So he's penalized and
- 11:50Speaker 10: lost his points in the sprint. But you will see
- 11:53Speaker 10: what he can do in the longer version today. But yeah,
- 11:56Speaker 10: it's a frustrating time it seems to be for Leam Lawson,
- 11:59Speaker 10: just with race symbols and what they're doing. And I
- 12:03Speaker 10: mean I think if he was just able to get
- 12:04Speaker 10: some points that would really help his confidence and world
- 12:08Speaker 10: team's confidence, I think leading into the rest of the sea.
- 12:10Speaker 2: I see they were looking at taking swearing off the
- 12:13Speaker 2: off the hot minks because it's causing a bit of
- 12:16Speaker 2: a controversy. Surely there's a way of AI to to
- 12:19Speaker 2: do this, to auto edit out. Yeah yeah, I mean
- 12:22Speaker 2: who can argue with it.
- 12:23Speaker 10: I mean, if one's swearing to it would be be
- 12:26Speaker 10: philly billy chocole, wouldn't it.
- 12:28Speaker 2: But it's stupid. If you want to get the netty
- 12:30Speaker 2: gritty the inside, this is.
- 12:32Speaker 10: What it is all you're doing absolutely And the thing
- 12:35Speaker 10: is that when you're driving at three k's an hour
- 12:39Speaker 10: and your life's on the line, Yeah, I could cursing
- 12:43Speaker 10: here and.
- 12:44Speaker 2: There is fire truck. No, not quite going to cut it?
- 12:49Speaker 2: Cut it? Hey? Is that tong leading Mark Williams? This
- 12:51Speaker 2: is the snooky in Sheffield.
- 12:53Speaker 10: Oh, this is always one of the highlights of my year. Anyway,
- 12:56Speaker 10: on the bays at the Crucible Theater. It's come to
- 13:00Speaker 10: the climax this morning, Ryan. So we've got yeah Jintower
- 13:05Speaker 10: up against Williams. Of course he's not looking to become the
- 13:08Speaker 10: first Chinese winner of the event. And Williams he's already
- 13:12Speaker 10: a three time champion, but he would be the oldest
- 13:14Speaker 10: winner at fifty and there's an age gap of twenty
- 13:17Speaker 10: two years there between the two of them. But the
- 13:20Speaker 10: best in the competition so far. So we'll wait, you know,
- 13:23Speaker 10: with great excitement to see what happens there.
- 13:25Speaker 2: We will look forward to your.
- 13:27Speaker 10: Starting again sixth the next phase of it. It goes
- 13:30Speaker 10: over two days, but best of thirty five frames. Yes,
- 13:32Speaker 10: so Jinta Al is up by seven frames to.
- 13:35Speaker 2: What brilliant Great to see you again all lovely doing
- 13:38Speaker 2: it all again. Next week Andrew I bought twenty four
- 13:42Speaker 2: after five News Talks there B. What are all of
- 13:44Speaker 2: these election results around the world mean for us here
- 13:47Speaker 2: in New Zealand.
- 13:47Speaker 1: That's next the early edition full the Show podcast on
- 13:51Speaker 1: iHeartRadio powered by News Talks.
- 13:53Speaker 2: It be news Talks B. It is twenty six minutes
- 13:57Speaker 2: after five. No doubt Donald Trump's brand is dicey at
- 14:01Speaker 2: best at home, but globally. In term one of Donald Trump,
- 14:05Speaker 2: the world watched on with a mix of kind of
- 14:07Speaker 2: amusement and feigned concern. Term two is very different. These
- 14:12Speaker 2: results out of Canada and Australia at the weekend show,
- 14:14Speaker 2: the brand is turned toxic. Like a beef Wellington at
- 14:17Speaker 2: a family dinner party. We've all seen the host, the
- 14:21Speaker 2: chef tucking in, but we're thinking, hmm, do we want
- 14:24Speaker 2: to do the same. We can't get much closer in
- 14:27Speaker 2: Styalin substance to Canada and Australia when it comes to democracy.
- 14:30Speaker 2: Both chained to the Westminster system we inherited from other England,
- 14:33Speaker 2: and both of our cousins have turned on their political
- 14:36Speaker 2: oppositions as Trump up ends the global order to rub
- 14:40Speaker 2: salt in the wornd. For both Polliev and Dutton. They
- 14:43Speaker 2: lost their seats as well as their elections. We spoke
- 14:46Speaker 2: about this on Friday, But what is the message here?
- 14:50Speaker 2: Trump is toxic. Pollier's problem was one of style. He
- 14:53Speaker 2: sounded and campaigned too much like Trump, the airport hangar
- 14:57Speaker 2: with the branded plane behind him, the show on the
- 15:00Speaker 2: nightly news. People didn't like that. Dutton's problem was more complicated. First,
- 15:04Speaker 2: he ran a crap campaign, realizing a defense force plan
- 15:09Speaker 2: so expensive against funding to three percent of GDP, I
- 15:12Speaker 2: mean we can't take on Elbow's tax cuts and a
- 15:15Speaker 2: cost of living crisis, and then only releasing that plan
- 15:18Speaker 2: two weeks out from a campaign was done, But it
- 15:22Speaker 2: was also about the word economists are spitting out like
- 15:25Speaker 2: a bad stake at the moment, uncertainty. Don't ask Luxon,
- 15:30Speaker 2: though he gave a bizarre response when asked about this yesterday.
- 15:33Speaker 2: Have a listen.
- 15:34Speaker 6: What you're seeing is in Singapore, Canada, Australia, the public
- 15:38Speaker 6: voting for governments that have their eyes on the right
- 15:40Speaker 6: things and the right things. For us is to make
- 15:42Speaker 6: sure we don't take our eyes off the economic growth.
- 15:45Speaker 6: That's why if we say growth, growth, growth, we keep
- 15:47Speaker 6: talking economics and rebuilding the economy from day one.
- 15:50Speaker 2: That's important. A weird thing to say. Basically, the Aussies
- 15:53Speaker 2: in the Canadians simply picked the most economically credible parties
- 15:58Speaker 2: in the face of uncertain times. What those parties he's
- 16:03Speaker 2: endorsing are both from the left. That's the equivalent of
- 16:06Speaker 2: kicking his sister parties, the Aussie Libs and the Canadian Conservatives,
- 16:10Speaker 2: right in the shins when they're down. It made no sense.
- 16:13Speaker 2: I think you wanted to avoid mentioning the Trump bump.
- 16:16Speaker 2: Maybe what's actually happening here is not really about parties.
- 16:21Speaker 2: In times of uncertainty, you don't change your horse. Mid
- 16:24Speaker 2: Stream voters stick with what they know. When the world
- 16:28Speaker 2: is in a spin, you don't know up from down.
- 16:31Speaker 2: Human nature, for the most part is to do nothing
- 16:34Speaker 2: and hope it goes away. Why risk a new government
- 16:37Speaker 2: of unknown quantity. Singapore arguably just done the same. The counterfaction,
- 16:42Speaker 2: of course, is obviously America. But remember the American economy
- 16:46Speaker 2: was actually growing for the past few years, consumer spending
- 16:49Speaker 2: was strong, inflation had come down earlier than ours. So
- 16:52Speaker 2: that's a different set of circumstances as to why they
- 16:55Speaker 2: went for Trump. The best comparison for what's happened in
- 16:58Speaker 2: Australia and Canada in the past week is twenty twenty
- 17:01Speaker 2: New Zealand. A bunch of people really worried about a
- 17:04Speaker 2: perceived global threat, rallying around the flagpole and rejecting a
- 17:08Speaker 2: campaign that was neither well run nor nailing the public mood,
- 17:11Speaker 2: which Judith Collins disastrous twenty twenty attempt didn't whether it
- 17:16Speaker 2: was Trump worried reaction to him. For Luxeon to attribute
- 17:20Speaker 2: the fiscal credentials of left wing parties abroad with their
- 17:25Speaker 2: success was an unnecessary own goal.
- 17:30Speaker 9: Bredge Breach.
- 17:30Speaker 2: You're on News TALKSB. It is twenty nine minutes after five,
- 17:34Speaker 2: the first.
- 17:35Speaker 1: Word on the News of the Day Early edition with
- 17:38Speaker 1: Ryan Bridge and one Room to make your property Surgeon
- 17:41Speaker 1: Symbol News Talks B.
- 17:50Speaker 2: Good morning, while you see Monday twenty four away from
- 17:52Speaker 2: six News Talks THEB. We're going to get to Judith
- 17:54Speaker 2: Collins on defense before six. Also Gavin Gray in the
- 17:57Speaker 2: UK for US this morning, Ryan Interest analysis on the elections.
- 18:02Speaker 2: That's the Canadian and Australian the weekend. Perhaps the difference
- 18:05Speaker 2: between Canada, Australia and New Zealand is that the National
- 18:08Speaker 2: Party here, isn't remotely trump pest. I think that's the truth,
- 18:12Speaker 2: isn't it. We've got Winston for that, haven't we. And
- 18:15Speaker 2: that was on full display at that announcement, which we'll
- 18:18Speaker 2: talk to Due Toth Collins about later on in the show.
- 18:20Speaker 2: That was on full display at the announcement at for
- 18:22Speaker 2: Nolpai yesterday. Interesting story this morning about Buddha and his
- 18:26Speaker 2: sacred jewels. So when he died, he was apparently buried
- 18:30Speaker 2: with a whole bunch of dazzling a cache of dazzling jewels,
- 18:34Speaker 2: and in the eighteen hundred someone dug them up. They
- 18:38Speaker 2: have found their way into a private collection. Some brit
- 18:42Speaker 2: owns them, and now they're going up for auction. Southby's
- 18:46Speaker 2: Hong Kong is going to auction them. Now there is
- 18:49Speaker 2: an ethical debate going on, you can imagine, because they're
- 18:52Speaker 2: Buddha's jewels, and should you be seen should somebody be
- 18:55Speaker 2: selling and profiting off Buddha's jewels? I wonder why Buddha
- 18:59Speaker 2: had jewels in the first place. Aren't they meant to
- 19:00Speaker 2: be sort of you know, not materialistic? Isn't that or
- 19:04Speaker 2: letting go of material Maybe they should be sold because
- 19:08Speaker 2: Finally you are releasing him of his material trappings. There
- 19:13Speaker 2: you go. It is twenty three away from six Ryan
- 19:16Speaker 2: Chalum Procter and needing for us this morning calm labors
- 19:19Speaker 2: making noise about Needing Hospitals Intensive Care Unit. Yeah.
- 19:25Speaker 11: Look, Health New Zealand has confirmed here the number of
- 19:27Speaker 11: ICU beds for our new hospitals decrease from thirty which
- 19:31Speaker 11: was originally planned, to twenty now for the opening, with
- 19:34Speaker 11: the option to expand it over time. Some have reacted
- 19:38Speaker 11: naturally with concern about this proposal, but our mayor here,
- 19:41Speaker 11: Jie's Radick, says, look, he's comfortable.
- 19:43Speaker 2: With the plant as it stands.
- 19:44Speaker 11: He says he's had word directly from the Health Minister
- 19:48Speaker 11: that this new hospital project is on track and twenty
- 19:51Speaker 11: beds is sufficient for our region's needs to begin with.
- 19:56Speaker 11: And Radick also says it's important to remember the final
- 19:58Speaker 11: fit out decisions will be made in five years time.
- 20:02Speaker 11: He also says a tender is due out this week
- 20:04Speaker 11: for a concrete or to finally start building the foundations.
- 20:08Speaker 2: Brilliant callum, how's your weather?
- 20:10Speaker 11: But a morning fom but then a fine day today
- 20:12Speaker 11: at a good week ahead like whin sixteen, the high
- 20:14Speaker 11: excellent and.
- 20:15Speaker 2: Christ Church clears with us clear, good morning, good morning.
- 20:18Speaker 2: Now people are getting a first glimpse at the new stadium.
- 20:21Speaker 12: They are indeed, look twenty people too at the new
- 20:24Speaker 12: Stadium Takaha yesterday after being drawn from a hat of
- 20:27Speaker 12: more than sixteen hundred applicants. This was part of the
- 20:30Speaker 12: open christ Church Festival railing. Palmer was one of them
- 20:34Speaker 12: who was there to look around to the new stadium.
- 20:37Speaker 12: She actually was brought to tears as I spoke to
- 20:39Speaker 12: her during that tour. We were standing on the concourse
- 20:41Speaker 12: looking out across the field of play at the time.
- 20:44Speaker 12: She says, this really feels like a new era for
- 20:46Speaker 12: christ Church and Cantabrian's. It feels like it's the icing
- 20:49Speaker 12: on the cake of our rebuild. I also spoke with
- 20:52Speaker 12: the guy Steve Moore. He's been our Crusaders season ticket
- 20:55Speaker 12: holder since the day the temporary stadium opened. He said
- 20:59Speaker 12: he couldn't believe he was one of the lucky ones
- 21:01Speaker 12: and says he was completely blown away after several sleepless,
- 21:05Speaker 12: sleepless nights from excitement.
- 21:07Speaker 2: It's very exciting. I mean even I'm excited up here.
- 21:10Speaker 2: I want to come to the opening, whatever the opening is,
- 21:12Speaker 2: I want to be there. Clear you had to get
- 21:14Speaker 2: me a tech out a cake. I'll see you there now.
- 21:16Speaker 12: The weather mainly fine today, bit frosty to start though
- 21:19Speaker 12: northeasterly is developing and a higher fifteen.
- 21:22Speaker 2: Max toll in Wellington. Good morning Max, Good morning Palmerston
- 21:26Speaker 2: North looking at sugary drinks bands. Yeah, this is.
- 21:29Speaker 3: A proposal to go before the Palmerston North City Council
- 21:32Speaker 3: on Wednesday, looking at banning sugary drinks at the council
- 21:36Speaker 3: on venues. The mayor there though at Grant Smith he's
- 21:40Speaker 3: told Aarons that he believes this is an overreach. He's
- 21:42Speaker 3: warning alcohol could be next. It makes the city unattractive,
- 21:46Speaker 3: I was about to say more unattractive. Public submissions generally
- 21:50Speaker 3: against this as well. It's part of the Council's proposed
- 21:53Speaker 3: health promotion policy, which also includes being smoke free vaatee
- 21:57Speaker 3: free outdoors as well. Energy drink flavored milk cordial also
- 22:02Speaker 3: included in this proposed ban. I'd imagine tap water might
- 22:06Speaker 3: be the only item on the menu at Arena Manawatu.
- 22:08Speaker 2: If this goes through. Honestly, just stories like this make
- 22:13Speaker 2: my blood boiled. Just ban everything, That's why I picked it. Yeah,
- 22:17Speaker 2: it's Monday morning. You're most prone to a heart attack
- 22:19Speaker 2: on a Monday morning. Don't do this to me. What's next?
- 22:22Speaker 2: Thing about? You know? Stop ban breathing, moving, you know,
- 22:25Speaker 2: because you breathe that cabin dark. So I don't know what.
- 22:27Speaker 2: Just bear it to the environment. So everyone, when you
- 22:29Speaker 2: go to a stadium in Palmerston, North, no breathing, no moving,
- 22:33Speaker 2: no drinking, no toilet weather.
- 22:37Speaker 3: Yeah fine, Northerly's fourteen the High Central, thank you.
- 22:42Speaker 13: It'll be no talking next.
- 22:43Speaker 2: No talking That would kill me. No, there would be
- 22:49Speaker 2: no Neva without a constant stream of consciousness. Hey, this
- 22:55Speaker 2: is a really sad stream of this is everyone will
- 22:57Speaker 2: know about this around the country. But the American pH
- 23:00Speaker 2: student who was killed a couple of weeks ago in
- 23:02Speaker 2: meadow Bank at that bus stop. Yeah, and there's a
- 23:05Speaker 2: sort of a memorial happening.
- 23:07Speaker 13: Yes, and that's happening today. So the meadow Bank community
- 23:10Speaker 13: will be gathering today. Now look about fifty people, including
- 23:14Speaker 13: Kyle Warrel's mother. They held a silent auction. This happened
- 23:17Speaker 13: yesterday to raise money. So today what they're doing is
- 23:21Speaker 13: that they're gathering at Saint John's Bush and they're going
- 23:23Speaker 13: to plant a Bahutah cowa try which is lovely in
- 23:26Speaker 13: honor of Kyle Warrel. And as we know, we've got
- 23:28Speaker 13: a sixteen year old male he's being charged with murder
- 23:31Speaker 13: aggravated robbery. Also a thirty two year old woman has
- 23:34Speaker 13: been charged with being an accessory after the fact of murder,
- 23:36Speaker 13: So that.
- 23:37Speaker 2: Will case closely. How's the weather today.
- 23:41Speaker 13: Morning cloud? Then find today's high eighteen call and Chris Mornings.
- 23:44Speaker 2: Yay, excellent. If everyone's talking about dust and being baled
- 23:48Speaker 2: and that's a problem, do you think bald been a
- 23:51Speaker 2: bald man?
- 23:51Speaker 13: I don't have a problem with this. I mean I'm
- 23:53Speaker 13: not seeing a bald man, so that's what.
- 23:56Speaker 2: Did do you have a problem with?
- 23:58Speaker 13: No, No, I'm just saying, you know how some people
- 24:00Speaker 13: were kind of you know, men and women are kind
- 24:02Speaker 13: of attracted to bald people.
- 24:03Speaker 2: So some people actually like it.
- 24:05Speaker 14: Did they like it?
- 24:06Speaker 7: Oh?
- 24:07Speaker 2: I don't know that.
- 24:08Speaker 13: Yeah, that's what I've heard right out there in the
- 24:10Speaker 13: news room from one or two people.
- 24:12Speaker 2: Do you know I went to buy a shaver at
- 24:14Speaker 2: the weekend. Well I did buy a new shaver, right
- 24:17Speaker 2: because the old one was cutting me. But can you
- 24:19Speaker 2: tell me?
- 24:20Speaker 13: I can actually now.
- 24:21Speaker 2: I've made a massive error.
- 24:23Speaker 13: You've taken quite a bit off your bed.
- 24:25Speaker 2: It's nearly all gone. Yes, So the number you know
- 24:28Speaker 2: you got your one, two, three, four. The numbers are
- 24:30Speaker 2: different for different brands. Oh, I went with the same number.
- 24:35Speaker 2: So what was your number? Number two?
- 24:37Speaker 13: Number two?
- 24:38Speaker 2: And it's come up like a number one. There's barely anything.
- 24:40Speaker 2: Let that's right?
- 24:41Speaker 13: Actually now that I'm really focusing on your face because
- 24:44Speaker 13: I usually don't focus on your face when I come in.
- 24:46Speaker 13: But yeah, oh I need to take a photo.
- 24:49Speaker 2: It's breaking up, basically, Peter Dustin on my face, Neva,
- 24:55Speaker 2: thank you, loving to see you. Happy Monday. Seventeen away
- 24:58Speaker 2: from six.
- 25:00Speaker 1: National Correspondence with ends Inn Eye Insurance, Peace of Mind
- 25:03Speaker 1: for New Zealand Business.
- 25:06Speaker 2: Fourteen away from Sex News Talk to here, be able
- 25:08Speaker 2: get a due to Collins and a second Right now
- 25:09Speaker 2: Gavin Gray in the UK for US givin Good Morning,
- 25:12Speaker 2: Hither are now eight men arrested over a suspected TIRA
- 25:16Speaker 2: plot involving a target, A specific target? Do we know
- 25:20Speaker 2: what it was?
- 25:22Speaker 14: No, we're not being told that. We do know that
- 25:24Speaker 14: of the eight seven are Iranian nationals. Now, it's a
- 25:29Speaker 14: combination of two different police operations going on around the UK,
- 25:33Speaker 14: a gang of three, it said, being arrested in and
- 25:36Speaker 14: around London, but also five others arrested at various locations
- 25:41Speaker 14: around England. Part they're saying of a pre planned investigation
- 25:45Speaker 14: into an alleged plot too, as you said, target a
- 25:49Speaker 14: specific premises. Now, all five who were arrested around the
- 25:54Speaker 14: country were arrested on suspicion appropriation of an act of
- 25:58Speaker 14: terrorism in the second operation, and the three men aged
- 26:01Speaker 14: between thirty nine and fifty five were arrested under the
- 26:04Speaker 14: National Security Act at different addresses. What's interesting about this, Ryan,
- 26:08Speaker 14: you might think, well, Iranian nationals in the UK. Well,
- 26:10Speaker 14: that is a common thread to what's going on here,
- 26:13Speaker 14: because just last year, the director general of mi I
- 26:16Speaker 14: five said his organization and police have responded to twenty
- 26:20Speaker 14: Iran backed plots presenting potentially lethal threats to British citizens
- 26:24Speaker 14: in UK residents since January of twenty twenty two, So
- 26:27Speaker 14: twenty plots over a period of just over two and
- 26:30Speaker 14: a half years. When he said that, and that I
- 26:32Speaker 14: think goes some way to show you just where mi
- 26:34Speaker 14: I five is getting so busy.
- 26:36Speaker 2: Absolutely, Now, what's the problem with your heating or potential
- 26:39Speaker 2: problem with your heating.
- 26:41Speaker 14: Yeah, So, in the nineteen eighties, meters were fitted to
- 26:45Speaker 14: effectively switch between peak and off peak use of electricity,
- 26:52Speaker 14: because of course off peak is cheaper. However, these so
- 26:55Speaker 14: called RTS Radio Teleswitching system meters were replaced a bench
- 27:00Speaker 14: by smart meters, although frankly many people don't trust those
- 27:03Speaker 14: in their home either. Anyway, this old technology is going
- 27:07Speaker 14: to be switched off on the thirtieth of June, but
- 27:09Speaker 14: it's estimated by some in the industry that there are
- 27:11Speaker 14: still four hundred and thirty thousand households using RTS meters
- 27:16Speaker 14: for their heating and hot water, and only one thousand
- 27:19Speaker 14: are being replaced each day. So by doing the maths,
- 27:22Speaker 14: thinking this has to be done by the thirtieth of June,
- 27:24Speaker 14: there's simply going to be nowhere near hitting the number
- 27:28Speaker 14: of households that they need to do in order to
- 27:30Speaker 14: get these people's monitors basically updated. And they're saying there
- 27:36Speaker 14: is a very real risk that once this system is
- 27:38Speaker 14: switched off, this long wave radio frequency system, then that
- 27:42Speaker 14: could mean that people are left without hot water or heating.
- 27:45Speaker 14: It is our summer, so that should be okay, but
- 27:48Speaker 14: it's going to be pretty inconvenient for many people.
- 27:51Speaker 2: All right, Gevin, good to have you on. Gevin Gray
- 27:53Speaker 2: are UK correspondent for your Monday morning and living away from.
- 27:55Speaker 1: Six Bryan Bridge, shoot of.
- 27:57Speaker 2: Collins out on the time achert Phenopai. Yes, they are
- 28:00Speaker 2: Sonorri they were a har here. I think I'll have
- 28:02Speaker 2: to clarify with her when she comes on. She's here now.
- 28:05Speaker 2: Money has been put aside for the Defense Force to
- 28:07Speaker 2: go shopping for five new c Sprite helicopters. Two billion
- 28:11Speaker 2: dollars set aside, plus a billion over four years on
- 28:13Speaker 2: other stuff. Personnel will get better digs, they'll do longer
- 28:17Speaker 2: deployments around the world, and they will do more of them.
- 28:20Speaker 2: Minister's here, good morning.
- 28:22Speaker 8: Oh, good morning Ryan. And that's a new pin, a
- 28:25Speaker 8: new pie.
- 28:26Speaker 2: It was now look great announcement. I'm sure it will
- 28:30Speaker 2: be welcomed by those who by the troops. But is
- 28:34Speaker 2: it is it an announcement about an announcement? I mean
- 28:37Speaker 2: we haven't even got a case through cabinet yet. We've
- 28:39Speaker 2: got no contracts sign we've got no procurement register, no funding.
- 28:43Speaker 2: Really approved. Just set aside, what was it?
- 28:47Speaker 8: Well, set aside. It's an announcement to say to people
- 28:50Speaker 8: and those that we are looking to procure from, we've
- 28:56Speaker 8: got the money and we're about to put out the
- 29:00Speaker 8: tenders basically, and so yes, it's actually a very big announcement.
- 29:04Speaker 8: And then the other thing is the extra almost billion
- 29:07Speaker 8: dollars over the next four years for operational reasons. So
- 29:12Speaker 8: it's a big announcement. We're very excited about it. And
- 29:16Speaker 8: our defense force person that I've got to say, are
- 29:19Speaker 8: absolutely Cockahoo faverage.
- 29:20Speaker 2: I can imagine the billion dollars is big. We'll get
- 29:22Speaker 2: to that in a second. But why does it need
- 29:25Speaker 2: so that the seas right, helicopter's right, you come out.
- 29:27Speaker 2: You see we've got two billion bucks. We want them,
- 29:29Speaker 2: we want five of them. Why do you then need
- 29:32Speaker 2: to go away? Do they have to go away into
- 29:34Speaker 2: a business case to cabinet? Is that a waste of time?
- 29:37Speaker 2: Given you've said that you know the the financials and
- 29:41Speaker 2: the number.
- 29:43Speaker 8: It's just the normal processes and government and the reason
- 29:45Speaker 8: there's and I you know, I think it's really important
- 29:49Speaker 8: to understand this is big bucks, it's tax money, and
- 29:53Speaker 8: we always do this. So we always go into a
- 29:56Speaker 8: business case as to why, and then we come up
- 29:59Speaker 8: with the options for procurement. But the reason for that is,
- 30:03Speaker 8: I mean, we're not announcing this without knowing we're going
- 30:05Speaker 8: to do it, But you do need to be able
- 30:07Speaker 8: to put the work in to say, nobody wants to
- 30:09Speaker 8: have another purchase back in early two thousands of another
- 30:15Speaker 8: one hundred and something labs. Nobody wants to have that
- 30:18Speaker 8: sort of thing happening, and we haven't. We've had really
- 30:20Speaker 8: good procurement in the last decade or so, so we
- 30:23Speaker 8: need to make sure we continue down that pathway.
- 30:26Speaker 2: This extra billion you're giving, do you expect our soldiers,
- 30:29Speaker 2: our front line, we'll get a pay rise out of this.
- 30:33Speaker 8: Oh I'm not going to talk about that because that's
- 30:36Speaker 8: the Chief of Defense Forces.
- 30:37Speaker 2: But what it means, well.
- 30:41Speaker 8: My expectation is that we've had some quite big pay
- 30:45Speaker 8: rises last year around remuneration. So when people say, oh,
- 30:49Speaker 8: there's been no that's not true. But actually every time
- 30:52Speaker 8: our people go on deployment, they get a benefit from that,
- 30:56Speaker 8: so they get extra money from that too. So they
- 30:59Speaker 8: want to be up deployment and I want to be
- 31:00Speaker 8: sitting at home fighting over remote control. They want to
- 31:03Speaker 8: be out there representing their country. But it does mean
- 31:08Speaker 8: is that they'll have better places to live in that
- 31:10Speaker 8: there'll be better investment in their work they're training, but
- 31:15Speaker 8: also more staff. That's also part of it. So you know,
- 31:20Speaker 8: it's quite a substantial thing. And frankly, after thirty five
- 31:25Speaker 8: years with a couple of years where that it wasn't true,
- 31:28Speaker 8: thirty five years of underspending, cutting and just basically raping
- 31:32Speaker 8: and pillaging of our defense force assets, this is a
- 31:35Speaker 8: huge turnaround.
- 31:36Speaker 2: More missions, longer missions, further missions. Great. They will love this,
- 31:41Speaker 2: and I know it's on an operational issue for them
- 31:43Speaker 2: to decide. But do you expect we will see more patrols,
- 31:46Speaker 2: more involvement in drills in the South China Sea, more
- 31:50Speaker 2: like you know, the Valiant Shield exercise of the US,
- 31:53Speaker 2: more of that stuff.
- 31:55Speaker 8: I think you're going to see more of a lot
- 31:57Speaker 8: more So. Our people have been in Bahrain, they've been
- 32:02Speaker 8: doing things around the Red Sea, They've been everywhere, and
- 32:06Speaker 8: they're sitting around the Indian Ocean. They're working with the
- 32:11Speaker 8: Indian Navy as well on interdictions around massive drug classicking,
- 32:17Speaker 8: heroine and those sorts of things. So you know, you're
- 32:19Speaker 8: just going to see more of them. But also the
- 32:21Speaker 8: big thing for them is that's what they join for.
- 32:25Speaker 8: And I think you know too, is that some of
- 32:27Speaker 8: this we've got critical estate managed maintenance of twenty six million,
- 32:33Speaker 8: one hundred and four million of over four years. I mean,
- 32:35Speaker 8: that's enormous, but the reason is because nothing's been done
- 32:39Speaker 8: for a very long time.
- 32:40Speaker 2: Winston says we need to get two percent faster. Do
- 32:43Speaker 2: you agree with them?
- 32:44Speaker 8: Yeah, I know, Well we've said that if we can,
- 32:47Speaker 8: we will, and we've also said two is that the.
- 32:53Speaker 2: If you want at Winston once, who's the whole up,
- 32:56Speaker 2: the whole.
- 32:57Speaker 8: Upper we need to we need to actually have the
- 32:59Speaker 8: economy growing so we can do that. But the other
- 33:02Speaker 8: thing is every two years we'll check in. We're called
- 33:05Speaker 8: them that this is a floor, not a ceiling, and
- 33:07Speaker 8: if we can get faster, we will. But you can't
- 33:10Speaker 8: do it without the personnel and that's part of what
- 33:12Speaker 8: we're doing here.
- 33:12Speaker 2: We appreciate your time. Defense Minister Tutith Collins News Talk said.

- 33:42Speaker 2: over there, look at that, but see the but yeah,
