- 0:00Speaker 1: Family owned and operated since 1972.
- 0:02Speaker 2: Sevchak Service Center, 2200 Longmire, just down from the post
- 0:07Speaker 2: office in College Station. You know, when they say computers
- 0:19Speaker 2: are taking over the world, and then some people say,
- 0:24Speaker 2: oh no, computers can't take over the world. I'm telling you,
- 0:28Speaker 2: computers are taking over the world.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Welcome in. We made it a little bit late, but
- 0:33Speaker 1: better late than never.
- 0:35Speaker 2: This portion of the program brought to you by Central
- 0:38Speaker 2: Texas Sports Medicine. We have slapped together a good show,
- 0:44Speaker 2: not one that, frankly, expected to have today, but in
- 0:48Speaker 2: the second hour. Right at the top of the hour,
- 0:52Speaker 2: I'm going to play an interview I did two years
- 0:56Speaker 2: ago with Dennis Francione when he wrote his book. Some
- 1:02Speaker 2: or most of you probably know by now, the former
- 1:04Speaker 2: Aggie coach has passed away today at the age of
- 1:08Speaker 2: 75 after a lengthy battle with cancer, which had come
- 1:13Speaker 2: back a couple of times. Mack Engel of the Fort
- 1:18Speaker 2: Worth Star-Telegram is reporting. that Franchoni had been in full remission,
- 1:24Speaker 2: but the disease returned again this year. Franchoni coached the
- 1:30Speaker 2: Aggies for five seasons, 03 to 07.
- 1:33Speaker 1: His record was 32-28.
- 1:34Speaker 2: It was 2-3 against Texas. He won his final game
- 1:36Speaker 2: at Kyle Field. and then announced his retirement. Of course,
- 1:49Speaker 2: he had been forced out. The people at TCU say
- 1:54Speaker 2: that Franchoni changed the course of that school's athletic program
- 2:00Speaker 2: historically when he was there. Franchoni went to Alabama and
- 2:08Speaker 2: then came to Texas A & M, retired a while,
- 2:12Speaker 2: went back to Texas State, All in all, he won
- 2:17Speaker 2: over 200 games as a head coach.
- 2:22Speaker 1: I think 213 games, I believe.
- 2:25Speaker 2: And was mostly a fixer-upper, taking over programs. He won
- 2:34Speaker 2: at New Mexico. They had won nine games in five years.
- 2:41Speaker 2: Led the Lobos to a winning record his second season.
- 2:44Speaker 2: First ever bowl game in 36 years. Went to TCU,
- 2:51Speaker 2: which had been 1-10.
- 2:53Speaker 1: First year 7-5.
- 2:54Speaker 2: Beat USC in the Sun Bowl. It helped to have
- 2:58Speaker 2: LaDainian Tomlinson when he went 8-4 and 10-1.
- 3:04Speaker 1: Went to Alabama, which was a mess. Went 7-5 and 10-3.
- 3:07Speaker 3: Um.
- 3:13Speaker 2: And then left to come to Texas A & M.
- 3:20Speaker 2: He later said that it was probably the mistake of
- 3:24Speaker 2: his career leaving TCU. Gary Patterson, of course, came in
- 3:29Speaker 2: and went to a whole other level there. But again,
- 3:35Speaker 2: Dennis Francione, dead at the age of 75. We will
- 3:39Speaker 2: hear that interview coming up in the second hour of
- 3:43Speaker 2: our program. Missouri freshman offensive tackle Johnny D.J. Jones is
- 3:49Speaker 2: hospitalized in Florida and in need of a heart transplant.
- 3:53Speaker 2: Eli Drinkwich saying today that Missouri's medical staff detected an
- 3:59Speaker 2: issue with Jones' heart during freshman testing this summer. After monitoring,
- 4:04Speaker 2: the staff did not find the resolution. They sent him
- 4:07Speaker 2: to the Mayo Clinic for further testing, where doctors discovered
- 4:11Speaker 2: he was suffering from a more serious issue.
- 4:15Speaker 1: And last week, found out he needed a new heart.
- 4:21Speaker 2: He is now on a transplant list. He's in Mayo,
- 4:26Speaker 2: and it's tough right now, said Drinkwits. Our thoughts and
- 4:29Speaker 2: prayers are with him and his family. College football tonight. Yes, tonight.
- 4:39Speaker 2: Southern Miss and Troy. Tomorrow night, Jacksonville State and Kennesaw State.
- 4:45Speaker 2: Remember we told you last Thursday, from Thursday, the 1st
- 4:51Speaker 2: of October to December the 1st, for two solid months,
- 4:55Speaker 2: there was a football game, either college or pro, on
- 4:59Speaker 2: every night of the week for two months.
- 5:03Speaker 1: And we're in the middle of that.
- 5:06Speaker 2: Mike Gundy is stepping into the television spotlight. The Oklahoma
- 5:14Speaker 2: State former head coach will join TNT's college football coverage
- 5:20Speaker 2: this weekend as a guest analyst. Gundy will be part
- 5:24Speaker 2: of the studio crew for the Big 12 matchup between
- 5:29Speaker 2: Arizona and West Virginia. at 10.30 a.m. Texas time with
- 5:36Speaker 2: the kickoff at 11. Gundy had previously bypassed other opportunities.
- 5:44Speaker 2: Starting at 5 o'clock this afternoon, the Los Angeles Dodgers
- 5:49Speaker 2: and Atlanta Braves with a key game 3-0. Yamamoto and
- 5:57Speaker 2: Sale on the mound, which on paper looks like an
- 6:01Speaker 2: incredible pitching matchup. Every time we say that, it ends
- 6:06Speaker 2: up 11-10. But that series is tied at one. And
- 6:11Speaker 2: the Brewers, the Brewers can advance to the NLCS. They
- 6:17Speaker 2: are taking on the Padres in San Diego tonight. That
- 6:23Speaker 2: game's scheduled to start at 7.30. Last night, or yesterday afternoon,
- 6:30Speaker 2: the White Sox beat Cleveland 4-3 to take a two-games-to-none lead,
- 6:35Speaker 2: heading back to Chicago tonight. And the Rays took a
- 6:40Speaker 2: two-games-to-none lead on the Yankees, 5-2 the final with that
- 6:47Speaker 2: series heading to New York. The Rangers announcing today that
- 6:54Speaker 2: former Major League pitcher Sam McDowell died yesterday. The statement
- 7:01Speaker 2: said after recovering from his own battle with alcoholism, he
- 7:05Speaker 2: became one of MLB's first players. sports addiction, and player
- 7:10Speaker 2: counselors with the Rangers in the 1980s and then joined
- 7:15Speaker 2: Major League Baseball's newly created Baseball Assistance Team in 1987,
- 7:23Speaker 2: helped hundreds of former players and members of the baseball
- 7:27Speaker 2: family through the years. Sam McDowell, as I mentioned, was 84.
- 7:35Speaker 2: And Alabama star guard Aiden Holloway will be suspended for
- 7:41Speaker 2: three exhibition games against Furman, Ole Miss, and Auburn, and
- 7:46Speaker 2: the first two games of the season against Sam Houston
- 7:50Speaker 2: and Arkansas State. Oh, I don't know if Alabama can
- 7:53Speaker 2: win those first two games. Holloway entered the Tuscaloosa County
- 7:59Speaker 2: DA Second Chance program as part of his plea agreement
- 8:03Speaker 2: following two felony drug charges earlier this summer. He was
- 8:08Speaker 2: eligible for the program because he was a first-time offender
- 8:12Speaker 2: with nonviolent felonies. The program includes random drug testing, 50
- 8:18Speaker 2: hours of community service and educational courses. He was suspended
- 8:24Speaker 2: from campus last spring and did not play in the
- 8:29Speaker 2: NCAA tournament, where the Tide reached the Sweet 16 after
- 8:35Speaker 2: beating Hofstra and Texas Tech before losing to eventual national
- 8:39Speaker 2: champion Michigan.
- 8:42Speaker 1: And another....
- 8:45Speaker 2: Disturbing story surrounding college athletics. Washington State today announcing a
- 8:54Speaker 2: multi-year partnership with FanWord, the leading AI technology and storytelling company.
- 9:04Speaker 2: As part of the agreement, Washington State will implement FanWord Assist,
- 9:11Speaker 2: FanWord's proprietary AI-powered communication platforms to support storytelling efforts across
- 9:23Speaker 2: every corner of the athletic department. Sports information offices used
- 9:29Speaker 2: to do that. And newspaper reporters used to report on universities.
- 9:38Speaker 1: But now.
- 9:40Speaker 2: Apparently, AI is going to do that. All right, we're
- 9:47Speaker 2: going to take a break. We're going to hear from
- 9:51Speaker 2: Mike Elko. We have got a high school report. We're
- 9:56Speaker 2: going to talk a little Aggie basketball. We're going to
- 9:59Speaker 2: hear an interview I did with Dennis Francione a couple
- 10:03Speaker 2: of years ago. And Lizzie is in for Mallory today
- 10:09Speaker 2: for some entertainment news after this for ANCO Insurance.
- 10:15Speaker 6: Anco Insurance is now a part of Hub International, bringing

- 11:39Speaker 8: At least you know the way I feel.
- 11:44Speaker 1: That's the mighty Merle.
- 11:46Speaker 8: Take all the money in the bank.
- 11:49Speaker 2: Thanks for joining us on a Tuesday. Tomorrow, Scott Clendenin
- 11:54Speaker 2: will join me. Also on Thursday, our Clark Eisenhower Outdoor Edition.
- 12:01Speaker 2: We're going to be headed to the Everglades for the
- 12:05Speaker 2: Outdoor Edition on Thursday.
- 12:07Speaker 1: You'll want to tune in for that.
- 12:10Speaker 2: Friday, our usual cast of characters. Ryan and Caleb will
- 12:15Speaker 2: be in. And I'll be talking with Kirk Bowles and
- 12:19Speaker 2: Tony Catalina on Friday.
- 12:22Speaker 9: All right.
- 12:24Speaker 2: We're going to play the second part of Mike Elko's
- 12:28Speaker 2: visit with the media. We played the first part yesterday.
- 12:31Speaker 2: He does that on Mondays. We carry it live here
- 12:35Speaker 2: on The Zone. Here is some of what Coach Elko
- 12:40Speaker 2: had to say yesterday.
- 12:43Speaker 10: And you mentioned projecting what he could be. What have
- 12:46Speaker 10: maybe been some of the biggest things he's really proved
- 12:48Speaker 10: on over the last year to now have the impact
- 12:50Speaker 10: he's had on this line?
- 12:51Speaker 11: Yeah, I just think, like, learning how to play offensive
- 12:55Speaker 11: tackle in an SEC-style offense, right, everything that comes with it,
- 12:59Speaker 11: the blitz pickup movement, identification of targeting, like, just there's
- 13:04Speaker 11: a lot that goes into O-line play that's not just,
- 13:06Speaker 11: you know, me blocking you. There's a little bit more
- 13:09Speaker 11: to it than that. And so a lot of that
- 13:11Speaker 11: was a little bit– over his head when he first started,
- 13:15Speaker 11: I think he would tell you that. But he has
- 13:17Speaker 11: worked incredibly hard to get himself up to speed to
- 13:21Speaker 11: be at a point now where I think he's able
- 13:23Speaker 11: to allow it to slow down a little bit and
- 13:25Speaker 11: use his physical skill set the way he's capable of.
- 13:27Speaker 11: And we always kind of knew once that happened he
- 13:30Speaker 11: would be really good, and it's been good to see
- 13:32Speaker 11: that happen for him.
- 13:33Speaker 6: We'll stay on the left side, fourth.
- 13:34Speaker 4: Row, Rob.
- 13:35Speaker 11: Howdy, Coach. Howdy.
- 13:38Speaker 12: TK Norman comes in the game and just looks like
- 13:41Speaker 12: he has an extra gear.
- 13:42Speaker 13: Is that something you've seen in practice.
- 13:44Speaker 11: And he finally got into the big lots and was
- 13:46Speaker 11: able to kind of show what he can do? Yeah,
- 13:48Speaker 11: you know, it was a shift for him. You know,
- 13:50Speaker 11: we knew Mario was going to be limited and, you know,
- 13:54Speaker 11: we wanted to get TK some opportunities and the most
- 13:57Speaker 11: opportunities for him was going to be at that slot.
- 13:59Speaker 11: And so credit him for shifting over and kind of
- 14:02Speaker 11: learning it. uh in the week and putting himself in
- 14:05Speaker 11: position to go out and get those opportunities and um
- 14:07Speaker 11: you know again you know when guys go down you
- 14:10Speaker 11: have to get guys to step up and so it
- 14:11Speaker 11: was great to see him do that and make some
- 14:13Speaker 11: explosive plays certainly look like uh he was really excited
- 14:16Speaker 11: and twitchy to be out there so it's good to
- 14:18Speaker 11: see we'll go back to the front right travis.
- 14:22Speaker 14: You talked after the game about the growth of the
- 14:24Speaker 14: offensive line in the run blocking. How much has the
- 14:27Speaker 14: tight end been a part of that as well, and
- 14:28Speaker 14: what growth have you seen them.
- 14:29Speaker 11: In the run blocking game? Yeah, I think they're getting better.
- 14:33Speaker 11: I think obviously you're seeing a combination of a lot
- 14:36Speaker 11: of bodies going out there trying to grow the whole group.
- 14:39Speaker 11: It's been good to see Chiotti's development and him getting better.
- 14:42Speaker 11: I think Houston Thomas is getting more and more comfortable
- 14:44Speaker 11: in the SEC. I think Richie's getting more and more
- 14:46Speaker 11: comfortable in the SEC. And so I think that's a
- 14:49Speaker 11: group that just continues to grow each week for sure.
- 14:51Speaker 14: And then I know in years past you've used a
- 14:53Speaker 14: kickoff specialist and a place kicker. I know David's doing both.
- 14:56Speaker 14: What went into the decision to change that up this year?
- 14:58Speaker 11: Yeah, just him being really good at both and consistent
- 15:01Speaker 11: and confident, and he's done it before. I think one
- 15:04Speaker 11: of the fears with that has always been for me
- 15:06Speaker 11: the ability for the leg to hold up over the
- 15:08Speaker 11: course of the season when you're performing both duties. And
- 15:11Speaker 11: so when you don't know how that's going to go
- 15:14Speaker 11: for a kid or you have– two kids that are
- 15:16Speaker 11: equal it's always best to kind of split that up
- 15:19Speaker 11: in my opinion um you know david was clearly the
- 15:21Speaker 11: better at both in our opinion and um and then
- 15:25Speaker 11: he had done it before at the collegiate level and
- 15:27Speaker 11: so you didn't have that concern or fear of him
- 15:29Speaker 11: lasting through the whole season because we've seen it done
- 15:32Speaker 11: that way.
- 15:32Speaker 10: For him before we'll go to the left second row
- 15:35Speaker 10: tyler What have you seen from Austin Simmons, just kind
- 15:38Speaker 10: of the challenges that he'll present as quarterback?
- 15:41Speaker 11: Yeah, he's really good, and he delivers the ball really accurately.
- 15:44Speaker 11: He's comfortable throwing it into tight windows. He's got a
- 15:47Speaker 11: lot of confidence in his arm and his ability to
- 15:50Speaker 11: make throws, and then he obviously has a ton of
- 15:53Speaker 11: comfortability with Caden Lee, who came over from Ole Miss
- 15:55Speaker 11: with him, and so you see that connection operate at
- 15:59Speaker 11: a really, really high level, and They've got a lot
- 16:02Speaker 11: of really talented outside receivers as well that can really
- 16:05Speaker 11: stretch the field. He's playing really, really good football.
- 16:09Speaker 15: On Saturday, do you feel like you saw improvement in
- 16:12Speaker 15: the pass rush and just able to get pressure on
- 16:15Speaker 15: the quarterback?
- 16:15Speaker 11: Um yeah i mean we saw improvement again i i
- 16:19Speaker 11: think game flow allows that you know we still got
- 16:22Speaker 11: to get better there's still areas that we need to
- 16:25Speaker 11: get better and improve and continue to disrupt the quarterback
- 16:28Speaker 11: and obviously that'll be a big piece this week with
- 16:30Speaker 11: the quarterback playing as well as he is um if
- 16:33Speaker 11: he doesn't get out of rhythm we're going to really struggle.
- 16:35Speaker 15: To control him we'll go all the way in the
- 16:37Speaker 15: back left nick Hey, Mike, I know you said after
- 16:40Speaker 15: the game there's no such thing as relief. It's joy
- 16:42Speaker 15: after a win. But does the building feel different after
- 16:46Speaker 15: back-to-back tough weeks and then getting.
- 16:48Speaker 11: A really solid win? Yeah, again, I don't know that
- 16:50Speaker 11: that's relief, though. I think that's when you win, things
- 16:54Speaker 11: are better. I don't think there's any dispute behind that.
- 16:58Speaker 11: You know, I don't know that we ever stopped working,
- 17:00Speaker 11: but you definitely feel mojo. You feel confidence. You feel
- 17:04Speaker 11: more positive vibes in and around it when you win.
- 17:07Speaker 11: And so, yeah.
- 17:09Speaker 15: And then with Drake, do you have any type of
- 17:12Speaker 15: relationship with Drake, and what have you thought of his
- 17:15Speaker 15: trying to build that program in Columbia?
- 17:16Speaker 11: Yeah, I've known Drake for a long time. A ton
- 17:19Speaker 11: of respect for him. I think he does a phenomenal job.
- 17:21Speaker 11: I think he's done a great job building that program.
- 17:23Speaker 11: He's been at it for a long time, and they're
- 17:27Speaker 11: consistently one of the best teams in the conference and
- 17:29Speaker 11: certainly present a lot of challenges in every aspect of
- 17:31Speaker 11: the game. We'll go to the front left, Tony.
- 17:34Speaker 16: You talk about Coyote Armstrong after the game and just
- 17:37Speaker 16: what you saw from him. So after the rewatch, did
- 17:39Speaker 16: it kind of stand up to what you saw in
- 17:41Speaker 16: real action? And just what has kind of gone into
- 17:43Speaker 16: him lately to kind of get that uptick into end
- 17:45Speaker 16: plays and opportunities?
- 17:46Speaker 11: Yeah, I just think it's the nature of young kids learning.
- 17:49Speaker 11: You know, I think they would all... in a moment
- 17:52Speaker 11: of honesty, tell you they thought they were doing it
- 17:54Speaker 11: at a certain level and then realized as they started
- 17:57Speaker 11: getting more game action, like, oh, wow, okay, there's more
- 18:00Speaker 11: to this than just going out there and playing, right?
- 18:03Speaker 11: And there's the preparation piece and the technique piece and
- 18:06Speaker 11: the fundamental piece and the focus piece. And there's so
- 18:09Speaker 11: much that goes into young kids being ready to go
- 18:11Speaker 11: out there and play. And so I just think It's
- 18:13Speaker 11: been the natural growth of a young kid kind of learning.
- 18:15Speaker 11: We're not very different than Lamont, right? It's just a
- 18:18Speaker 11: young kid learning what all it takes to go out
- 18:21Speaker 11: there on an SEC football field and be successful. And
- 18:23Speaker 11: so with each week that he gets confidence, he has
- 18:26Speaker 11: more success, you're starting to see his talent flash a
- 18:30Speaker 11: little bit more each week. And so we know he's talented.
- 18:33Speaker 11: We know he has the ability and the opportunity just
- 18:36Speaker 11: gives him a chance to show it a little bit better.
- 18:38Speaker 11: We'll go to the back right, Landon. Howdy, Coach.
- 18:41Speaker 17: Saw Marcus move around a lot on defense on Saturday.
- 18:45Speaker 17: Was that based on just the personnel that you had
- 18:46Speaker 17: having Tafik back, or was that more personnel-based for the
- 18:49Speaker 17: game itself, or is that something that we can expect
- 18:51Speaker 17: moving forward?
- 18:52Speaker 11: Probably a little bit of all of it. I think
- 18:55Speaker 11: a combination of Tafik, a combination of where we were
- 18:58Speaker 11: at linebacker, a combination of... Chance Collins' development. It's probably
- 19:03Speaker 11: a combination of a lot of things. And Marcus is
- 19:05Speaker 11: a kid that gives us a lot of flexibility in
- 19:07Speaker 11: terms of what he can do. And so I think
- 19:10Speaker 11: we'll continue to be creative in the way that we
- 19:12Speaker 11: use those guys to get opportunities.
- 19:13Speaker 18: For all of them.
- 19:14Speaker 10: We'll go back over to the left, second row, Alex.
- 19:17Speaker 10: Tamari had missed the game on Saturday. Just curious if
- 19:19Speaker 10: you had an update just how he's doing, what's going
- 19:21Speaker 10: on with him.
- 19:21Speaker 11: Yeah, he should be fine. We'll go, yeah, Peter right
- 19:26Speaker 11: onto the right coach, fourth row.
- 19:29Speaker 5: When you have a guy like David who can hit
- 19:31Speaker 5: it from 57 and clearly has the confidence and trust
- 19:34Speaker 5: of the team, seeing that reaction after he hit that
- 19:36Speaker 5: field goal, how does that change the calculus for you
- 19:39Speaker 5: as a coach, both in special teams preparation and for offense,
- 19:43Speaker 5: knowing you don't have to get as close maybe in
- 19:45Speaker 5: a two-minute drive?
- 19:46Speaker 11: Yeah, it's obviously more comforting. We were joking a little
- 19:49Speaker 11: bit about... I was talking to Coach Dougherty, our special
- 19:52Speaker 11: teams guy today, and this isn't to throw shade at anybody,
- 19:55Speaker 11: but there were a couple times last year where I
- 19:57Speaker 11: thought we functioned really well in the two-minute drive. operation
- 20:00Speaker 11: at the end of half and weren't able to finish
- 20:02Speaker 11: it the way we wanted to and left some points
- 20:04Speaker 11: on the board and then that was probably one of
- 20:07Speaker 11: our less efficient two-minute operations at the end of half
- 20:10Speaker 11: and then all of a sudden goes out and gets
- 20:12Speaker 11: erased because he drills a 57-yard field goal and so
- 20:14Speaker 11: it's a little bit of just an eraser sometimes when
- 20:17Speaker 11: when you know you don't put the drive together exactly
- 20:20Speaker 11: the way you want it to go or the way
- 20:21Speaker 11: you script it to go and so um and that's
- 20:24Speaker 11: a huge confidence boost for the team right when you
- 20:26Speaker 11: make that kick right before half and We were able
- 20:28Speaker 11: to really get ten points in a row, that field goal,
- 20:31Speaker 11: and then the touchdown on the first drive coming out.
- 20:33Speaker 11: And any time you can double up around halftime, obviously
- 20:37Speaker 11: it stretches your lead, but it's also huge from a
- 20:39Speaker 11: momentum standpoint in the game. And so I think, yeah,
- 20:42Speaker 11: it's a huge weapon to have for sure.
- 20:44Speaker 5: And again, you said you want to feel joy after
- 20:48Speaker 5: a win. Why is that the emotion you want to
- 20:50Speaker 5: feel after your team wins a game? And why is
- 20:52Speaker 5: that important for team dynamics for that to be the emotion?
- 20:55Speaker 11: Because that means we're not listening to you guys, if
- 20:57Speaker 11: I'm being honest. And when I say you guys, I
- 21:00Speaker 11: just mean the noise, right? We talk a lot about
- 21:04Speaker 11: trying to isolate ourselves from everybody's opinions, everyone's thoughts, and
- 21:08Speaker 11: not that I mean that in a disrespectful way. You
- 21:10Speaker 11: guys are certainly entitled to them. But when you play
- 21:13Speaker 11: college football and you play high-profile sports nowadays, the noise
- 21:17Speaker 11: around your performance gets so loud. And when you start
- 21:19Speaker 11: talking about words like relief– the relief would come because
- 21:23Speaker 11: we're not going to hear bad things from you, right?
- 21:26Speaker 11: That's what relief would be from. Joy would be because
- 21:29Speaker 11: together we collectively accomplished something that we set out to do.
- 21:33Speaker 11: And so we're going to celebrate that with joy with
- 21:35Speaker 11: each other because that's all that matters is each other, right?
- 21:38Speaker 11: And I don't mean that the wrong way. I think
- 21:40Speaker 11: you get what I'm saying. But to me, that's what
- 21:42Speaker 11: relief would be. Relief would be the only reason you
- 21:45Speaker 11: would feel relief after a win is because you would
- 21:48Speaker 11: know that there would be positivity from the outside world, right?
- 21:52Speaker 11: And I don't care about the outside world enough to
- 21:54Speaker 11: worry about relief.
- 21:56Speaker 5: From the coaching perspective then, as somebody who started before
- 21:59Speaker 5: social media was a thing, have you had to sort
- 22:02Speaker 5: of be more adamant to your team to take that
- 22:06Speaker 5: joyful approach and sort of be– Yeah, I think that
- 22:09Speaker 5: as a coach who is very aware of the world
- 22:11Speaker 5: that we live in, I think the way you have
- 22:13Speaker 5: to isolate your team is way different now than it
- 22:14Speaker 5: was 15 years ago.
- 22:29Speaker 11: I told our guys a couple weeks ago, when I
- 22:32Speaker 11: retire from this game, what I'm going to do is
- 22:35Speaker 11: I'm going to go debate all of the talking heads
- 22:38Speaker 11: in college football just to really make it clear to
- 22:40Speaker 11: everybody who knows things about football and who doesn't. That's
- 22:44Speaker 11: one of my goals when I get out.
- 23:21Speaker 19: This is C & J Barbecue.
- 23:24Speaker 20: Okay, so for the ad, I'm thinking fog machines, laser lights,
- 23:28Speaker 20: maybe a.

- 25:14Speaker 1: Like actually free?

- 28:41Speaker 25: you can start to make it better.
- 28:45Speaker 26: Welcome into the High School Report. I'm Caleb Rapley and
- 28:48Speaker 26: today we are jumping out to the Polaris Fun Center
- 28:51Speaker 26: phone line. to visit with the head coach of the
- 28:53Speaker 26: College Station Cougars football team, Mr. Stoney Pryor. Coach, thanks
- 28:57Speaker 26: for joining me today.
- 28:59Speaker 9: Glad to be here, Caleb. Thanks for having me.
- 29:01Speaker 15: Yes, sir.
- 29:02Speaker 26: Last time we talked to you was preseason, and somehow
- 29:06Speaker 26: we're already past the halfway mark for your Cougars, sitting
- 29:09Speaker 26: at 5-1 on the year. What are some of your
- 29:12Speaker 26: takeaways from the first six games of the year? Maybe
- 29:15Speaker 26: some things that surprised you that you weren't expecting at
- 29:17Speaker 26: the beginning of the season.
- 29:19Speaker 4: Sure, I think our kids are playing really well. You know,
- 29:23Speaker 4: we had some pretty challenging games on our schedule right
- 29:27Speaker 4: from the very beginning, and our kids performed really well.
- 29:30Speaker 4: We were able to go 2-0 through our non-district games,
- 29:34Speaker 4: and then as we got into district, we won all
- 29:36Speaker 4: of those except Weiss. We had a really close competitive
- 29:39Speaker 4: game there, and fell two points shy in that outing.
- 29:44Speaker 4: But our kids are playing well. They're playing for each other.
- 29:47Speaker 4: They're getting after it on both sides of the ball
- 29:49Speaker 4: and playing pretty good complementary football. And so it's been
- 29:54Speaker 4: a real recipe for success for us to date.
- 29:58Speaker 15: Yeah.
- 29:58Speaker 26: So having, you know, just those two non-district games to
- 30:00Speaker 26: warm up, I know makes, makes it a lot more
- 30:03Speaker 26: difficult to be ready for district play, you know, with,
- 30:08Speaker 26: with a new team every year. And that's just kind
- 30:10Speaker 26: of the nature of high school athletics in general. But
- 30:13Speaker 26: how well do you think the team has gelled despite those,
- 30:16Speaker 26: you know, that short time to kind of learn, learn
- 30:19Speaker 26: your squad?
- 30:20Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 30:21Speaker 4: You know, I think you nailed it is that in
- 30:23Speaker 4: high school you have, Large turnovers because your senior class
- 30:26Speaker 4: is gone every year and most of your team is
- 30:28Speaker 4: going to be juniors and seniors. So there's always a
- 30:32Speaker 4: big turnover and a lot of new pieces in different spots.
- 30:37Speaker 4: And so we just address that heads up with the
- 30:39Speaker 4: kids at the beginning. Like we don't have very long
- 30:41Speaker 4: to figure stuff out. before the games matter and obviously
- 30:45Speaker 4: we want to win those non-district games but they really
- 30:48Speaker 4: don't matter to the same level that the district games
- 30:51Speaker 4: do because the district games are the ones that are
- 30:53Speaker 4: going to give you a chance to play an 11th
- 30:55Speaker 4: game and and so I think our kids took that
- 30:59Speaker 4: approach you know we took that approach with the scheduling
- 31:01Speaker 4: wanting to make sure that we've scheduled teams that are
- 31:04Speaker 4: going to challenge us and expose us and push us
- 31:07Speaker 4: in different areas and to make us see where our
- 31:09Speaker 4: weaknesses or vulnerabilities are and maybe where we're successful. And
- 31:13Speaker 4: then we're able to get into district play. And it
- 31:16Speaker 4: was a challenge right out of the chute for that.
- 31:19Speaker 4: And I think our kids have done a really good
- 31:21Speaker 4: job of figuring out where they are individually, which has
- 31:27Speaker 4: allowed us to figure out where our team is collectively
- 31:30Speaker 4: on each side of the ball and kind of finding
- 31:32Speaker 4: our identity and understanding our strong points and how we
- 31:35Speaker 4: can play in such a way to maximize each different
- 31:40Speaker 4: aspect of the team.
- 31:42Speaker 26: Only brought back three starters on the offensive side of
- 31:45Speaker 26: the ball and five on the defensive side. So like
- 31:48Speaker 26: we were talking about, a lot of turnover, a fairly
- 31:52Speaker 26: young team. But who are some players that have stepped
- 31:54Speaker 26: up that didn't play as big of a role last
- 31:57Speaker 26: year but are very important to the team's success in 2026?
- 32:01Speaker 11: Sure.
- 32:02Speaker 4: So our quarterback has been Noah Simak.
- 32:04Speaker 9: He was the backup quarterback last year.
- 32:06Speaker 4: We try to get our backup guys meaningful minutes in games.
- 32:11Speaker 4: But of course, there's a huge difference between being the
- 32:13Speaker 4: backup quarterback and being the starting quarterback. And he's done
- 32:17Speaker 4: a really good job of leading the offense and of
- 32:20Speaker 4: being the play caller there. which has been really helpful.
- 32:24Speaker 4: You know, Cash Adams had been a receiver. We moved
- 32:27Speaker 4: him over to defensive back last year because we needed
- 32:30Speaker 4: some help over there. He's back to being a receiver,
- 32:32Speaker 4: so he's not really a new guy, but he's back
- 32:35Speaker 4: on that offensive side of the ball and has been
- 32:37Speaker 4: a real dangerous weapon for us there.
- 32:41Speaker 9: So that's been really good.
- 32:42Speaker 4: You know, I think on the defensive side of things,
- 32:46Speaker 4: our defensive front is pretty talented.
- 32:49Speaker 9: We have several guys there.
- 32:51Speaker 4: Zeron Benford had played there, and then Justin Johnson and
- 32:55Speaker 4: Caden Webb and several guys that are contributing up front
- 32:59Speaker 4: in the box, which has given us a lot of
- 33:02Speaker 4: pressure to the quarterbacks. It's limited our opponent's run game,
- 33:06Speaker 4: and it's made their passing opportunities, I guess, a little
- 33:09Speaker 4: more frantic, which has been bolstered by some solid play
- 33:14Speaker 4: in the secondary, whether it was Deshaun.
- 33:17Speaker 9: Gomez, a young guy coming up, Trey Hill. Gogo has
- 33:22Speaker 9: done a great job as a corner as well.
- 33:25Speaker 4: So we've seen some guys see opportunities and step into
- 33:30Speaker 4: those roles to be able to fulfill needs that we
- 33:32Speaker 4: have on the team.
- 33:34Speaker 26: Yeah, but one player that... was on the team last
- 33:38Speaker 26: year and has played a very big role again this season.
- 33:42Speaker 26: Your senior running back, Trey Walton, I think we talked
- 33:44Speaker 26: about a little bit preseason, but he has lived up
- 33:46Speaker 26: to expectations, I would say, over 700 yards in the
- 33:50Speaker 26: first six games of the season, eight touchdowns, all that
- 33:53Speaker 26: just on the ground. So how important has that performance
- 33:56Speaker 26: been for your team, having that senior back that you
- 34:01Speaker 26: can really lean on and trust to lead this team?
- 34:05Speaker 4: Yeah, I think it's really been huge. Trey is a
- 34:08Speaker 4: knowledgeable football player. He's certainly athletic and talented and explosive.
- 34:12Speaker 4: But I'll emphasize the other two parts, the knowledge of
- 34:16Speaker 4: the game that he has.
- 34:18Speaker 9: And his vocal leadership style.
- 34:20Speaker 4: And so combining those things, he's got credibility because he's
- 34:25Speaker 4: capable and athletic, but then he's able to take his
- 34:29Speaker 4: knowledge or his understanding of the way the game works
- 34:32Speaker 4: or the scheme works and and motivate other players, teach
- 34:37Speaker 4: other players.
- 34:38Speaker 9: And then, I guess, if we go back to the
- 34:40Speaker 9: athletic side of.
- 34:41Speaker 4: Things, his ability to run the ball and catch passes
- 34:44Speaker 4: as well, he does whether bullets or swing passes, and
- 34:47Speaker 4: we're able to bump him out into the regular formation
- 34:50Speaker 4: in an empty set, has also given opportunities to our
- 34:54Speaker 4: receivers because while you may, for example, want to double-team Cash,
- 35:00Speaker 4: If you do, that's great because we've taken two guys
- 35:02Speaker 4: out of the picture and we'll run the ball on you.
- 35:05Speaker 4: And if you say, well, we better not let you
- 35:06Speaker 4: run the ball because Trey's going to find creases and
- 35:09Speaker 4: make us pay, well, then that opens up things on
- 35:12Speaker 4: the outside or deep balls for our receivers to make plays.
- 35:15Speaker 4: And so having a talented running back is really beneficial
- 35:20Speaker 4: on the field, off the field, in the locker room.
- 35:22Speaker 4: His leadership is good. Noah does a great job of leading.
- 35:25Speaker 4: He's not as vocal as Trey. And that combination of
- 35:27Speaker 4: those two guys is in.
- 35:29Speaker 9: The backfield has been really good for us.
- 35:31Speaker 26: So looking back a few weeks earlier this season, I
- 35:35Speaker 26: would say that week four, week five is a very
- 35:39Speaker 26: tough stretch having to come off of that road trip
- 35:42Speaker 26: to Weiss to play, you know, one of the top
- 35:44Speaker 26: 10 teams in the state ended up with a close
- 35:46Speaker 26: loss there. And then coming back home and playing, you know,
- 35:52Speaker 26: one of the great rivalries in the sport. I would say, um,
- 35:56Speaker 26: as long as college station high school has been around
- 35:59Speaker 26: pretty much, um, CSHS and A & M consolidated, it's
- 36:02Speaker 26: been a very, very competitive rivalry. It's always, it's always
- 36:06Speaker 26: a toss up of who's going to win. It's been
- 36:07Speaker 26: back and forth every year. Um, but you know, how
- 36:11Speaker 26: much did that win mean to your team being able
- 36:13Speaker 26: to come off of a loss like that, bounce back
- 36:15Speaker 26: immediately and get a win over a big rival like that?
- 36:18Speaker 9: Yeah, I think it's huge. So on your, your point
- 36:20Speaker 9: about the rivalry, it is a great rivalry.
- 36:22Speaker 4: Um, And I think what makes it a great rivalry
- 36:25Speaker 4: partly is great community support of both schools. And so
- 36:29Speaker 4: there's a lot of interest in our town for that game.
- 36:33Speaker 4: But both teams are also capable and competitive. athletic and
- 36:37Speaker 4: fun to watch. So the game is going to be
- 36:41Speaker 4: competitive and exciting. The crowd is going to make it electrifying.
- 36:44Speaker 4: It's a fun thing to be a part of. Now
- 36:47Speaker 4: we go and we play Weiss and we came up
- 36:49Speaker 4: on the short end of the stick and Weiss is
- 36:51Speaker 4: a really good team. And all of our kids know
- 36:53Speaker 4: that and they have really athletic players and nevertheless, you know,
- 36:56Speaker 4: we lost even though we played well. So there's a,
- 36:59Speaker 4: the potential for some doubt to creep into the kids'
- 37:02Speaker 4: minds because we even though we intellectually know they're talented
- 37:06Speaker 4: and the game was close, you start to wonder like, okay,
- 37:10Speaker 4: they beat us. And where are we really? And now
- 37:12Speaker 4: we have console come into our place and they're really talented.
- 37:15Speaker 4: And that game's going to be juiced up and how
- 37:17Speaker 4: are we going to play? And then we went out
- 37:19Speaker 4: and had a really good performance against console. And I
- 37:22Speaker 4: think that was, that was great for our kids to,
- 37:26Speaker 4: to basically have those games back to back where we
- 37:28Speaker 4: didn't have any time to be, you know, Debbie down
- 37:31Speaker 4: or after losing to Weiss because consoles coming and, and,
- 37:34Speaker 4: Of course, our kids are.
- 37:35Speaker 9: Amped up about that.
- 37:37Speaker 4: And then I guess I'll take that another week after
- 37:39Speaker 4: we have a victory against Consol. There's a little bit
- 37:43Speaker 4: of a question mark about how we're going to perform
- 37:45Speaker 4: against Georgetown because we don't have the same rivalry against Georgetown.
- 37:48Speaker 9: We're on the road. As it turns out, it's drizzly.
- 37:52Speaker 4: It's not an ideal fan game because the weather's not perfect.
- 37:57Speaker 4: And so there's some question about how will we perform there? Well,
- 38:00Speaker 4: we have a letdown after Consol, and we played pretty
- 38:03Speaker 4: well and did some things really well and came out
- 38:06Speaker 4: with a win against another well-coached team. So that is
- 38:09Speaker 4: kind of the gauntlet to run through right there.
- 38:12Speaker 26: And this week, you know, the gauntlet doesn't really get
- 38:15Speaker 26: any easier going.
- 38:16Speaker 9: Up against the Killeen Kangaroos.
- 38:19Speaker 26: Which is a team that kind of flew under some
- 38:21Speaker 26: people's radar preseason after going 1-9 last year. But they
- 38:26Speaker 26: own their own 4-1 record and are undefeated in district
- 38:29Speaker 26: play so far. So what do you expect to see
- 38:31Speaker 26: from the Kangaroos on Friday night?
- 38:32Speaker 4: You know, athleticism and intensity and a bit of confidence.
- 38:38Speaker 4: I mean, they're playing well, and like you say, they're undefeated.
- 38:41Speaker 4: And we don't have those common opponents yet. Basically, the
- 38:45Speaker 4: part of district we played is the part they haven't played.
- 38:48Speaker 9: So, you know, we we've.
- 38:50Speaker 4: Got questions about how is this all going to match up,
- 38:53Speaker 4: but there's no disputing the fact that they're undefeated. They're
- 38:56Speaker 4: leading the district tied with Weiss for being undefeated in
- 38:59Speaker 4: district and. So this is a time if we want
- 39:03Speaker 4: to be a playoff team, if we want to have
- 39:05Speaker 4: a chance perhaps to be district champs or co-district champs,
- 39:09Speaker 4: even with a loss to Weiss, we've got to perform
- 39:11Speaker 4: well against Killeen. And that being said, we also expect
- 39:17Speaker 4: our team to perform better and better each week, regardless
- 39:21Speaker 4: of who we're playing. So our objective is to play
- 39:24Speaker 4: at the best level we can possibly play with the
- 39:27Speaker 4: talents we're blessed with, with the schemes that we work towards.
- 39:30Speaker 4: with the efforts that we put into practice we want
- 39:32Speaker 4: to have as high a quality of a football team
- 39:35Speaker 4: as we possibly can and then we want to expect
- 39:38Speaker 4: next week it ought to be better because we've improved
- 39:40Speaker 4: over the last week and so on and so forth
- 39:43Speaker 4: because we want to be on the rise, but we
- 39:47Speaker 4: want to make the playoffs, and we want to be
- 39:49Speaker 4: rising and accelerating through the playoffs to ideally reach a
- 39:53Speaker 4: crescendo or a fever pitch by the time the state
- 39:56Speaker 4: championship rolls around.
- 39:57Speaker 21: All right, Coach.
- 39:58Speaker 26: Well, I appreciate your time today, and good luck the
- 40:00Speaker 26: rest of the season.
- 40:01Speaker 9: I appreciate it, Caleb. Great talking to you today.

- 41:33Speaker 2: Coming up, we're going to switch gears for just a
- 41:35Speaker 2: little bit, talk a little bit of Aggie basketball.
- 41:38Speaker 1: So stay tuned for that.
- 41:40Speaker 2: Our Texans report is brought to you by Oscar &

- 42:17Speaker 3: Houston Texans are trying to get out of the hole
- 42:20Speaker 3: after starting the season with four straight losses, although all
- 42:22Speaker 3: have been hard-fought games. Despite how close the losses were,
- 42:25Speaker 3: the rough start has both coaches and players wondering what
- 42:28Speaker 3: the solution is. In his press conference yesterday, head coach
- 42:31Speaker 3: D'Amico Ryan spoke on getting back to the basics in
- 42:33Speaker 3: order to improve.
- 42:35Speaker 27: For us, it comes down to playing complementary football. For
- 42:39Speaker 27: that game to go the way it went, offensively it
- 42:41Speaker 27: did a lot of great things. It scored enough points
- 42:44Speaker 27: for us to win. When it comes down to how
- 42:47Speaker 27: you play complementary, how we started that second half, there
- 42:50Speaker 27: was special teams giving up an explosive defense, giving up
- 42:54Speaker 27: explosives and a touchdown. You have so many miscues going
- 42:57Speaker 27: on there. That's not complementary football. So for us to
- 43:00Speaker 27: win a game, we've got to help each other out.
- 43:04Speaker 27: Special teams has to set up the offense, has to
- 43:06Speaker 27: set up the defense, and vice versa.
- 43:08Speaker 3: The Texans now prep to face the Titans in Tennessee
- 43:10Speaker 3: on Sunday, kickoff set for noon with coverage on CBS.
- 43:13Speaker 3: With your Houston Texans report, I'm Jett Nelson.

- 44:50Speaker 2: Friday's Fearless Football Forecast Contest is brought to you by
- 44:54Speaker 2: Chad Jones Law and Zwirneman Flooring. Every week of the
- 44:58Speaker 2: football season, we're in week six already.
- 45:03Speaker 1: We're getting all close to halfway through.
- 45:06Speaker 2: We've got ten games, and you have until 5 o'clock
- 45:09Speaker 2: Friday afternoon to make your picks. 5 o'clock Friday afternoon. Georgia, Alabama.
- 45:15Speaker 2: is the tiebreaker. It's going to be played in a hurricane.
- 45:18Speaker 1: It's not.
- 45:20Speaker 2: Rudder, Belton, consolidated at Pflugerville-Weiss, A & M- Missouri, Texas-Oklahoma, UCLA-Oregon, Houston,
- 45:30Speaker 2: Kansas State, Florida State, Louisville, Boise State, Fresno State, and
- 45:36Speaker 2: the Texans and the Titans. Those are the 10 games
- 45:40Speaker 2: we're picking this week. I hope they're harder than last week.
- 45:43Speaker 2: Even I went 9-1 last week. If you haven't played yet,
- 45:47Speaker 2: you still have a chance to play and win valuable
- 45:50Speaker 2: weekly prizes. But you have no chance to get your
- 45:55Speaker 2: name engraved on the cup, which is why we all.
- 45:58Speaker 1: Play every year.
- 46:00Speaker 2: Friday's Fearless Football Forecast Contest, America's most loved football pick-em contest,
- 46:05Speaker 2: a division of Sports Talk, and presented by Zwerdemann Flooring
- 46:10Speaker 2: and Chad Jones Law.
- 46:13Speaker 1: By the way, we've got an accident here on.
- 46:17Speaker 2: Southbound bypass Highway 6, just.
- 46:23Speaker 1: Past the 2818 exit, and.
- 46:29Speaker 1: Everything's down to one lane, again, southbound.
- 46:33Speaker 2: So if you're sitting out there wondering what's going on,
- 46:36Speaker 2: that's what's going on. Be mindful of all of the police, fire,
- 46:42Speaker 2: and EMS people. It's a one-car rollover. It is off
- 46:46Speaker 2: the side of the road, but be aware of that.
- 46:52Speaker 2: I know we had Highway 6 North closed near Hearn
- 46:55Speaker 2: this morning for a long time.
- 46:58Speaker 1: All right, basketball.
- 47:00Speaker 2: We're going to hear a little bit from Zach Clements,
- 47:03Speaker 2: who's played good basketball for A & M and is back.
- 47:08Speaker 2: The Aggies will be scrimmaging Rice soon. The season is
- 47:12Speaker 2: not that far away, and he visited with the media.
- 47:15Speaker 12: Zach, how do you.
- 47:17Speaker 10: Just kind of describe your offseason and just kind of
- 47:20Speaker 10: where you feel like you've really tried to grow.
- 47:22Speaker 15: In your game?
- 47:23Speaker 18: I think it's been great. I think it's been real
- 47:25Speaker 18: good recovering and getting back into the whole thing. Yeah,
- 47:29Speaker 18: just meshing with the guys. You know, every year you're
- 47:31Speaker 18: going to have a new role. It's just finding that role.
- 47:34Speaker 10: Bucky really told us at the end of the season
- 47:36Speaker 10: that he was going to prioritize getting positional length through
- 47:40Speaker 10: the portal. Have you seen that maybe play out and
- 47:42Speaker 10: just kind of how the complexion of this team might
- 47:44Speaker 10: be different going into this year?
- 47:46Speaker 18: Yeah, I mean, it's great. I mean, we've got a
- 47:47Speaker 18: bunch of bigger players. It definitely helps. You notice it
- 47:51Speaker 18: when you just walk into practice. There's less space on
- 47:53Speaker 18: the floor, and it just helps with everything else.
- 47:56Speaker 14: How do you feel like you're a different player this
- 47:58Speaker 14: season than you were last?
- 48:00Speaker 18: I've just been getting better every day, whatever that ball handling, shooting,
- 48:03Speaker 18: the same old stuff, just working on the vitamins and
- 48:07Speaker 18: just trying to win this year.
- 48:09Speaker 11: Coach mentioned you as.
- 48:10Speaker 17: A bit of a leader being a returning player. How
- 48:12Speaker 17: have you kind of stepped into that role and have
- 48:14Speaker 17: you kind of taken that on yourself?
- 48:15Speaker 18: Yeah, I've been trying to take that into the role
- 48:17Speaker 18: just because I've been here for a year, we've done it.
- 48:20Speaker 18: I know a lot of what we're doing. So just
- 48:22Speaker 18: trying to show the new guys just what the role
- 48:25Speaker 18: is and what the expectations are.
- 48:27Speaker 17: How does that help you having more length?
- 48:30Speaker 18: Does that kind of enable you to not put so
- 48:33Speaker 18: much on yourself defensively as compared to last season when
- 48:36Speaker 18: maybe you had to do a whole bunch for the team?
- 48:39Speaker 18: Not even that. It just helps everybody, whether it's rebounding, guarding, whatever.
- 48:44Speaker 18: I know we're a physical, active team, so extra length
- 48:48Speaker 18: won't hurt.
- 48:49Speaker 10: We just got done talking to Shelly. What does he
- 48:53Speaker 10: really bring to the court that you feel like, and
- 48:54Speaker 10: just what's it been like going up against him?
- 48:56Speaker 18: Oh, he's great. He's a freak athlete. Super good. I've
- 49:00Speaker 18: only seen him get better, so it's encouraging. I think
- 49:03Speaker 18: he's going to help us a lot. And I'm actually
- 49:05Speaker 18: excited to see him play because he's super athletic and
- 49:07Speaker 18: he's fun to watch.
- 49:08Speaker 10: How would you describe his personality and just kind of
- 49:11Speaker 10: the guy he is?
- 49:12Speaker 27: Oh, he's a great guy.
- 49:13Speaker 18: I mean, just from the stuff y'all seen online and
- 49:15Speaker 18: stuff that's just who he is um super energetic super
- 49:18Speaker 18: funny super karen like he's a great guy you know you.
- 49:21Speaker 16: Bucky talked about just the first two weeks you guys
- 49:23Speaker 16: are kind of meshing together from your players perspective what
- 49:26Speaker 16: have you seen and what have you liked from you guys.
- 49:28Speaker 18: Yeah like every year you got new guys now with
- 49:30Speaker 18: the portal um you got it's you know there's a
- 49:32Speaker 18: time where teams come together and you know the the
- 49:35Speaker 18: team that's together the most is going to be a
- 49:37Speaker 18: better team at the end of the year so I
- 49:39Speaker 18: think we're doing a great job with that. We got
- 49:41Speaker 18: a bunch of new guys, so we're still meshing, but
- 49:44Speaker 18: it's going real well.
- 49:47Speaker 10: Still pretty early on, but just what do you think
- 49:49Speaker 10: maybe the identity of this team is starting to become?
- 49:52Speaker 10: What are maybe some words you use to describe the
- 49:55Speaker 10: identity of this team?
- 49:57Speaker 18: I think it's great. I mean, we're athletic, long, and
- 50:01Speaker 18: I think it's going to be similar to last year
- 50:02Speaker 18: where we just won't stop. I think that's just how
- 50:05Speaker 18: we play here, and that's what we do. So I
- 50:07Speaker 18: think it's going to be real similar, just a little longer,
- 50:08Speaker 18: and a little more athletic.
- 50:10Speaker 15: What have you seen from Jamie as he's developed this offseason? And,
- 50:15Speaker 15: you know, they've put a lot of.
- 50:17Speaker 10: Resources into helping him come along as his second year
- 50:21Speaker 10: in the system.
- 50:21Speaker 18: Oh, he's been great. I think from last year to
- 50:23Speaker 18: this year has been night and day. I think he's
- 50:27Speaker 18: playing his best ball right now. He's looking great. He's
- 50:31Speaker 18: looking like a whole new player, which is really exciting.
- 50:34Speaker 14: How important is it to have guys like you and
- 50:36Speaker 14: Jamie who played in the system last year with so
- 50:38Speaker 14: many new faces coming in?
- 50:40Speaker 18: Yeah, I think all the experience you can get coming
- 50:42Speaker 18: back is very important. I mean, you've got guys that
- 50:45Speaker 18: have done all the stuff last year, and you're just
- 50:47Speaker 18: bringing it to the new guys this year.
- 50:49Speaker 13: In what ways does Jamie look like a new player
- 50:52Speaker 13: this year?
- 50:53Speaker 18: I mean, just everything he does. He's doing it to
- 50:55Speaker 18: a higher level, blocking shots, making plays, dunking a ball,
- 50:58Speaker 18: just doing what he does just to a much higher level.
- 51:01Speaker 15: What does... Having that version of Jimmy, I mean, what
- 51:04Speaker 15: does that add to this team?
- 51:06Speaker 18: I mean, y'all saw him last year. He had a
- 51:07Speaker 18: couple games where it's just like, wow, this guy can go. So,
- 51:10Speaker 18: I mean, he's just doing that more consistent, which is great.
- 51:12Speaker 18: I mean, we all love it because it makes a
- 51:14Speaker 18: lot of the stuff easier.
- 51:16Speaker 10: You mentioned Shelly's athleticism. I'm curious if there was maybe
- 51:19Speaker 10: a play in practice, a play in the Bahamas that
- 51:21Speaker 10: really encapsulates kind of the athleticism.
- 51:23Speaker 18: Yeah, there's been a lot of plays, I feel like,
- 51:26Speaker 18: where he just goes down the lane, dunk the ball,
- 51:27Speaker 18: and it's just like, wow. I mean... That and defensively,
- 51:30Speaker 18: he makes plays that are just like, wow. I think
- 51:33Speaker 18: that's real fun to watch. It's real fun to have
- 51:35Speaker 18: on your side. I'm excited.
- 51:38Speaker 14: You mentioned that this is a group that just likes
- 51:40Speaker 14: hanging out with each other. What does that look like
- 51:42Speaker 14: on the day-to-day?
- 51:44Speaker 11: Do you feel.
- 51:44Speaker 18: Like that's the case? This year, we're super meshed. I'm
- 51:48Speaker 18: not saying last year we weren't. Last year, we were
- 51:49Speaker 18: super meshed, too. That's good to see in a program.
- 51:53Speaker 18: You've got a lot of guys that come in to
- 51:55Speaker 18: these programs, don't know each other, kind of just stay
- 51:58Speaker 18: at their own place, but no, this year's been different.
- 52:01Speaker 18: We do a bunch of stuff on the outside. We
- 52:03Speaker 18: try to get together. We eat together. We do everything together.
- 52:07Speaker 17: What's maybe been a.
- 52:08Speaker 10: Highlight, fun thing that you guys have done this offseason?
- 52:11Speaker 18: We've gone to Topgolf. We've gone out to restaurants. We've
- 52:14Speaker 18: done a bunch of things. It's been real fun.
- 52:16Speaker 1: Zach Clements, and we're just around the corner for a
- 52:21Speaker 1: little Aggie basketball. Stay tuned.
- 52:24Speaker 2: I'm going to replay an interview I did with Dennis
