Latest / Twin Cities Territory / Kody Clemens hits a stunning walk-off grand slam as Twins shock Royals
Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: Oh my god, what just happened? The Minnesota Twins were
- 0:05Speaker 1: dead down to their last strike, about to be shut
- 0:08Speaker 1: out for the second consecutive game against the Kansas City Royals,
- 0:11Speaker 1: and then on an two pitch Cody Clemens walk off
- 0:15Speaker 1: grand slam and the Twins somehow someway take two games
- 0:19Speaker 1: out of three from the Royals and keep that streak
- 0:22Speaker 1: alive of winning rubber games. Zach Pierce, Dan Hayes, Tyler Duffy,
- 0:26Speaker 1: Zach and Dan from me Athletic Tyler, longtime Major leaguer
- 0:29Speaker 1: and former Minnesota Twins. This is Twin City's territory on
- 0:31Speaker 1: your filed Territory Network. We had to come to you
- 0:34Speaker 1: with a early show this week on Thursday because of
- 0:38Speaker 1: what just happened at Target Field. The Twins were absolutely
- 0:42Speaker 1: dead in the water, Dan, until an amazing moment from
- 0:46Speaker 1: Cody Clemens.
- 0:48Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 0:48Speaker 3: I think I probably had about twelve just texts that you.
- 0:53Speaker 3: I even said to somebody, like I started to type something.
- 0:57Speaker 3: I was like, that's way too harsh, that's like delete it.
- 1:01Speaker 3: But I mean, like there were so many urgents to
- 1:03Speaker 3: be like, this is pathetic, this is just this is horseshit.
- 1:08Speaker 4: And we saw it.
- 1:08Speaker 3: There were no hit into the seventh inning by No Cameron.
- 1:10Speaker 3: No camera came in five to eight, four ninety three
- 1:13Speaker 3: Era A. No Cameron has dominated him all season and
- 1:17Speaker 3: it was excruciating. It is hot as miserable at the ballpark.
- 1:21Speaker 3: The Twins looked lifeless, and you know sometimes when that
- 1:25Speaker 3: that picture change happens. Things just happened. Lucas Hirsik came in,
- 1:30Speaker 3: and he's been a good reliever at times in his career.
- 1:33Speaker 3: He did not have it. He got the first two outs,
- 1:36Speaker 3: then he hits Ryan Jeffers, Royce Lewis, falls behind O
- 1:40Speaker 3: two works it even singles up the middle. Josh Bell
- 1:44Speaker 3: took just multiple close pitches. He said he was holding
- 1:48Speaker 3: his breath wondering because Salvi Perez challenged the three to two.
- 1:53Speaker 3: He was pretty sure it was a ball, but it
- 1:55Speaker 3: was in and it was the challenge showed he was correct.
- 1:58Speaker 3: He gets the first pinch run for him. He's on
- 2:01Speaker 3: the bench and he says Tristan Gray, who has hit
- 2:05Speaker 3: two of the twins three previous Grand Slams this year,
- 2:08Speaker 3: Tristan Gray turned to him and Alex Jackson said, Cody's
- 2:11Speaker 3: gonna get a hanging slider. And he's gonna and he
- 2:13Speaker 3: won't miss it. And three pitches later, two hanging slider
- 2:17Speaker 3: from Matt Strom ended up in the first row of
- 2:20Speaker 3: the right center field bleachers, just above that flower bed.
- 2:25Speaker 3: And I mean, I'm not exaggerating when I say that
- 2:30Speaker 3: is one of the more improbable moments I've ever seen.
- 2:32Speaker 3: This is my twentieth cover in baseball. Just just a
- 2:36Speaker 3: magical moment. And I loved the postgame. Cloes were amazing,
- 2:41Speaker 3: Like this is a team that prides itself on being
- 2:43Speaker 3: even keeled. They were not even keeled. Bailey Over said,
- 2:47Speaker 3: holy shit. For Bailey Over to say, for Bailey Over
- 2:50Speaker 3: to say, that tells you everything. This was Derek Shelton's birthday.
- 2:55Speaker 3: Derek Shelton said, I went from being extremely pissed to
- 2:59Speaker 3: purely he like everywhere you went, Like Bell said, is
- 3:04Speaker 3: like the moment, Like that's a moment of dreams or mado.
- 3:07Speaker 3: Cody Clemens said, and we'll have some video from him
- 3:09Speaker 3: coming up the shot from the clubhouse. But Cody Clemens
- 3:12Speaker 3: said it was like his favorite home run of all time.
- 3:14Speaker 3: That's I believe, And this is real quick, and I'll
- 3:17Speaker 3: let you guys go, but I believe I just counted
- 3:20Speaker 3: up fast. Cody Clemens had hit fifty one home runs
- 3:24Speaker 3: before this, twenty had either tied the game or given
- 3:28Speaker 3: his team the lead. So now that's twenty one out
- 3:30Speaker 3: of is it fifty one or fifty two home runs
- 3:33Speaker 3: for his career, it's a fifty two, so I think
- 3:35Speaker 3: he's like twenty one for fifty two either tying the
- 3:38Speaker 3: game or giving his team the lead. This is a
- 3:40Speaker 3: guy that acquired for cash considerations in April last year
- 3:44Speaker 3: and basically just gave a chance, and he continues to
- 3:47Speaker 3: reward them.
- 3:49Speaker 1: It just unbelievable. The Twins had one hit in eight
- 3:52Speaker 1: innings off of Noah Cameron. Trevor Larning struck out to
- 3:55Speaker 1: start the ninth. Victor Kerttini lined out after that, so
- 3:58Speaker 1: their first two outs of the night, it was done.
- 4:01Speaker 2: It was done.
- 4:02Speaker 1: Ryan Jeffers hit by a pitch, and then the two
- 4:05Speaker 1: of their three hits came after two outs in the ninth,
- 4:07Speaker 1: Royce Lewis with a single after the Jeffers hit by pitch.
- 4:09Speaker 1: You mentioned the Josh Bill walk and Clemens Clemens's homer.
- 4:12Speaker 1: Of course, uh, Tyler, want to get your thoughts. You
- 4:16Speaker 1: might be having audio issues so but let's Sea.
- 4:18Speaker 4: Yeah I think you're good.
- 4:19Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, you're good for now, so just just go
- 4:22Speaker 1: before we lose you incredible.
- 4:24Speaker 5: I mean it's we were all kind of watching it
- 4:26Speaker 5: together and you know, as it happens, and it goes
- 4:29Speaker 5: from you know, someone pulling the shoot early and not
- 4:32Speaker 5: watching the ninth and to the text chain exploding and
- 4:35Speaker 5: you know that clubhouse is rocking, Chelsea's fired up.
- 4:38Speaker 4: You know, it's his birthday.
- 4:39Speaker 5: I mean, that's there's a statement when you know gets
- 4:42Speaker 5: used a lot that that in every single possible way,
- 4:45Speaker 5: is is a game you had to win.
- 4:48Speaker 4: Is a game It wasn't pitched poorly by anybody.
- 4:50Speaker 5: It was just a well pitched game on their behalf,
- 4:53Speaker 5: and you got to the bullpen finally, you know, luckily
- 4:56Speaker 5: they took him out of the game, and uh, you
- 4:58Speaker 5: got the job done. And that's been the all season.
- 5:01Speaker 5: Cody is very obviously a clutch player when he's wearing
- 5:06Speaker 5: a big league uniform, and you know, for him to
- 5:08Speaker 5: have that moment, that's he's getting all everything he's eron
- 5:12Speaker 5: so far. You know, he's gotten a shot this year
- 5:14Speaker 5: and he has literally taken it and ran with it
- 5:16Speaker 5: in so many ways, and that's a huge one headed
- 5:19Speaker 5: into a huge weekend with the deadline. I mean, that's
- 5:22Speaker 5: that's what you want. We keep talking about putting pressure
- 5:24Speaker 5: on the front office. I think that does it. You know,
- 5:27Speaker 5: it's it's a special game. I mean I was standing
- 5:29Speaker 5: up and living and watching it. It's stuff like that
- 5:31Speaker 5: just gets everybody going. It gets the fans fired up.
- 5:34Speaker 5: You know, I can't wait to watch it on TV tonight,
- 5:36Speaker 5: be all over ESPN, everything, and it's it's a huge
- 5:39Speaker 5: win heading into an even bigger series this weekend.
- 5:42Speaker 1: We have some video from the Clubhouse thanks to Dan.
- 5:45Speaker 1: This is Cody Qlemens's reaction.
- 5:48Speaker 6: That's what you're envisioned him doing it, and so that
- 5:51Speaker 6: was awesome.
- 5:52Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm just an add with the craziness.
- 5:54Speaker 6: So two pitch, Yeah, I mean it was over the middle,
- 5:58Speaker 6: which was surprising, but yeah, oh too obviously was behind,
- 6:02Speaker 6: but I gotta go pitch to hit.
- 6:04Speaker 3: However, you start doing the NAT there when you got
- 6:07Speaker 3: your four batters away and you start thinking, how soon
- 6:11Speaker 3: you start.
- 6:11Speaker 4: Thinking maybe have a chance.
- 6:14Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean I think I was six up at
- 6:17Speaker 6: any so, like I was still preparing to get ready
- 6:19Speaker 6: to hit. You know this team's got a lot of
- 6:21Speaker 6: fighting us to and you know we've tend to rally
- 6:25Speaker 6: like that.
- 6:26Speaker 4: So I was ready house prepared for a not bat
- 6:29Speaker 4: for sure. When it leads the bat, what are you thinking?
- 6:32Speaker 6: I hammered it like I felt, you know, it was
- 6:35Speaker 6: back spun to Rice Center and I knew it off
- 6:38Speaker 6: the bat. It was an unreal feeling. Yeah, my phone's
- 6:44Speaker 6: blowing up family, obviously, but yeah, it's a bunch attacks
- 6:48Speaker 6: so far. You've had some big home runs for this
- 6:52Speaker 6: team since jew Hemery, Like, where is this rank among them?
- 6:55Speaker 2: Number one?
- 6:55Speaker 4: For sure?
- 6:56Speaker 6: I mean I've never had a walk off home run
- 6:58Speaker 6: in the big leagues, and for to be Grand Slam
- 7:01Speaker 6: is kind of just like icing on the cake.
- 7:04Speaker 4: So yeah, I'm going to get top for sure.
- 7:07Speaker 1: It was over the mill, guys, it was. It was
- 7:09Speaker 1: over the mill.
- 7:10Speaker 4: Don't throw it there?
- 7:11Speaker 2: What else?
- 7:11Speaker 1: What else am I supposed to do with it? But
- 7:12Speaker 1: you don't run and like, walk off Grand slams are
- 7:16Speaker 1: always amazing, but when it when you need it because
- 7:19Speaker 1: you're down by three, oh, just unbelievable.
- 7:22Speaker 3: I mean, on the verge of getting shut out two
- 7:25Speaker 3: days in a row, ny just own them on Tuesday night,
- 7:29Speaker 3: Wednesday night and I got my days.
- 7:31Speaker 4: No hit through seven. I mean, geez yeah.
- 7:35Speaker 3: Like they were just so dead. It was just it
- 7:37Speaker 3: was like, you know that that text that fan that
- 7:41Speaker 3: texted you the other day might have been onto something.
- 7:45Speaker 3: This This team had sixteen runs scored on this homestand
- 7:50Speaker 3: until the ninth inning. This was the sixth game of
- 7:53Speaker 3: the homestand eleven of those sixteen runs came Sunday. They
- 7:56Speaker 3: were on the verge of being shut out for the
- 7:58Speaker 3: third time Iron Bucks and went on the ile yesterday.
- 8:01Speaker 3: We'll talk about that a little bit in a minute.
- 8:03Speaker 3: But Joe Ryan had another you know, unsettling out I
- 8:08Speaker 3: guess unsettling start on Wednesday night. Like you're looking at
- 8:13Speaker 3: this and going, man, is this team really going to
- 8:15Speaker 3: buy by Monday? Like I get it that they're they're
- 8:19Speaker 3: right there, but are they looking at this and going
- 8:22Speaker 3: we should buy? And there's still some like there's issues here.
- 8:25Speaker 3: There's Joe Ryan is not looking right right now, and
- 8:29Speaker 3: Byron Buckston is going to be on the IL for
- 8:31Speaker 3: a little while with a hip injury, and the offense
- 8:33Speaker 3: is sputtering a little bit, and it's like those issues
- 8:36Speaker 3: still exist, but they feel a lot less consequential when
- 8:40Speaker 3: you are you've gone four and two on the homestand
- 8:43Speaker 3: instead of going three and three, you are back at
- 8:45Speaker 3: five hundred and you go into Seattle and like you're
- 8:50Speaker 3: going on just like this stuff. What's the plane rid
- 8:54Speaker 3: like when you are you know, I know, I know,
- 8:56Speaker 3: happy plane ride, you know.
- 8:57Speaker 5: How it's going to be a good one. They would
- 9:00Speaker 5: be a good one. Granted they got games to play,
- 9:03Speaker 5: but yeah, that'll be one. I'm sure Herman's down there yelling, everybody,
- 9:07Speaker 5: get on the plane, let's go so we can get
- 9:08Speaker 5: there early.
- 9:09Speaker 4: But that's one.
- 9:10Speaker 5: You know, there's gonna be nobody's going to bed early tonight.
- 9:14Speaker 5: You know, everybody's gonna ride that high for a while,
- 9:16Speaker 5: and as they should. You know, it's what better time
- 9:19Speaker 5: to get hot, you know, have some inspired wins come
- 9:23Speaker 5: your way and go into a series. I mean, ultimately
- 9:26Speaker 5: it's kind of make or break unfortunately, and you know,
- 9:29Speaker 5: go to Seattle. They've got some tough customers to face.
- 9:32Speaker 5: But at the same time, they've had their their downs
- 9:34Speaker 5: this year too, So who's to say don't go in
- 9:37Speaker 5: two of those?
- 9:38Speaker 4: Keep yourself right where you're at.
- 9:39Speaker 5: I mean, it's it's Momentum is such a big thing
- 9:42Speaker 5: in sports, you know, and anything. It's just confidence and
- 9:46Speaker 5: you know, these guys know no matter what, that there's
- 9:49Speaker 5: a chance to win this game, even if they're down
- 9:51Speaker 5: to the last strike. You know, it's it's pretty incredible
- 9:55Speaker 5: to keep watching it feel like it's they do something
- 9:58Speaker 5: like this. It seemingly, you know, once a series where
- 10:00Speaker 5: it's like they come from the depths to to do something.
- 10:03Speaker 5: And it's not like they had to score fifteen runs
- 10:05Speaker 5: today either. It was it was four runs. Granted it
- 10:08Speaker 5: happened on one swing. But the pitching is doing enough
- 10:11Speaker 5: at this point. We've talked about the hitting. You know,
- 10:14Speaker 5: they got to got to get it in gear, and
- 10:17Speaker 5: it's just one I'm very interested to see now with
- 10:20Speaker 5: the way they go and things have been said that
- 10:23Speaker 5: you know, I'm excited to see what they actually end
- 10:25Speaker 5: up doing because it is it's such a tough time
- 10:27Speaker 5: to say, let's buy because they're not blowing people out,
- 10:30Speaker 5: you know, they're they're staying afloat, but they're you know,
- 10:32Speaker 5: they're signs of this and that, and it's like, you know,
- 10:34Speaker 5: what do we do here? And it just makes me hope,
- 10:38Speaker 5: you know, and I know those guys want the same thing,
- 10:40Speaker 5: just a little plug of something, you know, to keep
- 10:43Speaker 5: that spark going for next week and for this last
- 10:45Speaker 5: stretch through August and September. I you know, I really
- 10:49Speaker 5: am interested to see what ends up happening, because these guys,
- 10:52Speaker 5: they played a win.
- 10:54Speaker 1: It was just a unbelievable like twenty five of the
- 10:57Speaker 1: twenty seven innings in this series were terrible for them,
- 11:01Speaker 1: and then and then two swings of the bat completely
- 11:04Speaker 1: changing it. I was preparing to talk tomorrow about are
- 11:08Speaker 1: we sure about this? Be sure we want to buy
- 11:11Speaker 1: because the team can't hit, and like, I think that's
- 11:17Speaker 1: still a thing, and Danny you alluded to a lot
- 11:20Speaker 1: of it, and I did the next segment. I had
- 11:22Speaker 1: planned the chyron on the screen will say yeah. But
- 11:25Speaker 1: because like as as awesome as that was just now,
- 11:28Speaker 1: and as awesome as Lewis's walk off was, there's still
- 11:31Speaker 1: a lot of wards to talk about.
- 11:32Speaker 3: For sure, they can't hit left handed pitching right now
- 11:37Speaker 3: they have It's like this team that leads the American
- 11:40Speaker 3: League and running store Jeff forgets, like what to do
- 11:45Speaker 3: one of the lefties on the mountain. We saw it
- 11:47Speaker 3: with the Lopez Friday for the A's We saw it
- 11:51Speaker 3: like the start of this series, in the first game.
- 11:54Speaker 3: I mean, it just seems to put them in a funk.
- 11:57Speaker 3: It's so weird. And no camera again four ninety three
- 12:01Speaker 3: era a no hit shut out through a great game
- 12:05Speaker 3: by him. I mean seriously, yeah, amazing.
- 12:08Speaker 1: Three times he's crushed the Twins all years, all three starts,
- 12:12Speaker 1: he's crushed the Twins.
- 12:14Speaker 3: And it feels like they had two, maybe three hard
- 12:17Speaker 3: hit balls. Shelton said it afterwards. I was pissed at
- 12:21Speaker 3: our bats, our execution, our approach. It was not good.
- 12:25Speaker 3: It just felt dead. And now, like you like, it's
- 12:29Speaker 3: just weird. It's so funny. That's why you follow baseball.
- 12:33Speaker 3: That's what if you're a fan. This is the moments
- 12:35Speaker 3: you you do this for, because the game can drop
- 12:38Speaker 3: you on your head in an instant, just like that,
- 12:41Speaker 3: and you go from like this feeling of hopelessness. If
- 12:45Speaker 3: you're the Twins too, Wow, they just pulled that off.
- 12:48Speaker 3: It's it's insane.
- 12:51Speaker 1: Well, some other news of note from this game.
- 12:54Speaker 2: The fan.
- 12:55Speaker 1: We've we mentioned him already, who who who? We don't
- 12:58Speaker 1: know who he is still, he texted us on Tuesday
- 13:01Speaker 1: night after the walkoff or sorry Tuesday during the bad
- 13:05Speaker 1: part of that game to say sell the entire roster,
- 13:08Speaker 1: and then Royce walked it off. I've been told that
- 13:12Speaker 1: today he diligently watched eight and a half innings of
- 13:15Speaker 1: the game and then got up to take a shower.
- 13:18Speaker 1: This is one hundred true, as I'm told that doesn't learn,
- 13:22Speaker 1: and so we are trying to get another interview with him.
- 13:25Speaker 1: If we are successful, we will add it to the
- 13:27Speaker 1: end of the show. But just yet, he may not know,
- 13:31Speaker 1: and he also needs to look in the mirror and
- 13:33Speaker 1: decide like, hey, maybe you're the problem man, Like you
- 13:35Speaker 1: need to just for the good of the team step away.
- 13:39Speaker 3: I mean the way that you were tracking down these reports.
- 13:43Speaker 3: You are doing some capital jay journalism in the last
- 13:46Speaker 3: couple of days. Like the fact that you got that
- 13:48Speaker 3: guy so quickly and got him to agree to it
- 13:52Speaker 3: and just gave him the conditions and then followed it
- 13:55Speaker 3: like the anonimity thing was really good. It almost made
- 13:58Speaker 3: us not think it was you. So it's uh. But hey,
- 14:03Speaker 3: by the way, I noticed your Harry is looking nice
- 14:07Speaker 3: and clean today, and you know you can't smell through me.
- 14:12Speaker 1: I also showered. What's wrong?
- 14:14Speaker 2: With that.
- 14:14Speaker 1: That doesn't That doesn't tell you anything.
- 14:16Speaker 3: Do you know by the shower? Do you know the
- 14:20Speaker 3: approximate timing shower today?
- 14:22Speaker 1: All right, We're going to take a quick break for
- 14:24Speaker 1: a word from our friends at foul Territory. We'll be
- 14:26Speaker 1: right back after this.
- 14:27Speaker 7: There is one place to be on trede deadline day
- 14:31Speaker 7: watching foul Territory, of course. A. J. Perdinski, Eric Kratz,
- 14:34Speaker 7: and Scott Brown will be live all afternoon speaking with insiders,
- 14:38Speaker 7: reading tea leaves, and reacting to unfolding deadline drama. Join
- 14:43Speaker 7: us on the ft YouTube channel at one pm ET
- 14:45Speaker 7: and stay locked in through the six pm deadline next Monday.
- 14:49Speaker 7: Foul Territory Network. It's baseball the way it should be covered.
- 14:56Speaker 2: All right.
- 14:57Speaker 1: Now for the bad part, Uh, it was overall a
- 15:00Speaker 1: pretty lousy series for the Twins. They were shut out
- 15:02Speaker 1: for seventeen innings in between the walkoffs against the barely
- 15:07Speaker 1: trying Kancay Worlds. But shout out to Randy Dobnik.
- 15:10Speaker 2: Great.
- 15:10Speaker 1: We all we said it earlier this week that we
- 15:13Speaker 1: didn't want him to have a rough night, and he
- 15:15Speaker 1: did not. The Twins did facing him, but also a
- 15:19Speaker 1: rough night for Joe Ryan his second straight. It wasn't
- 15:22Speaker 1: historically bad this time at least, but still not good.
- 15:25Speaker 1: Four runs and six innings. Did he make it the
- 15:27Speaker 1: full six? No, I'm questioning myself, but yeah he did.
- 15:29Speaker 3: He did it.
- 15:31Speaker 1: And also Byron Buxton back to the il Dan, what's
- 15:35Speaker 1: the latest there?
- 15:37Speaker 3: So Byron received an injection. We don't know what the
- 15:39Speaker 3: type of injection is, but they knew he'd be down
- 15:42Speaker 3: for seven days. He is traveling. He walked up to
- 15:47Speaker 3: him in the postgame clubhouse and he was packing his
- 15:49Speaker 3: bag and he knows he's not playing. This is a
- 15:52Speaker 3: three game or three city, nine game trip. I mean
- 15:54Speaker 3: maybe I guess he could play one of the last
- 15:56Speaker 3: games if he was activated, But like he's going, and
- 16:01Speaker 3: he going regardless and wants to be on this trip.
- 16:04Speaker 3: That's always a great sign. Wants to stay around the guys.
- 16:07Speaker 3: But they're going to be without him. And we've seen
- 16:10Speaker 3: a little bit of the downside that Luke Kishall misplayed
- 16:14Speaker 3: a ball off the wall in center in Wednesday Night's
- 16:18Speaker 3: game turned a double for Salvador Prez into his first
- 16:21Speaker 3: triple I believe since twenty twenty two, since Salvi had
- 16:25Speaker 3: a triple Lukeyshall then you know, took some string like
- 16:30Speaker 3: he's he's finding his way in center field. But it's
- 16:33Speaker 3: clear he's not a regular center fielder, and so you're
- 16:37Speaker 3: gonna see some some some strange plays like he missed,
- 16:42Speaker 3: he took a weird route, made a catch, but then
- 16:44Speaker 3: another ball fell in, like he's figuring it out out there,
- 16:48Speaker 3: but also just from missing Byron bucks at the top
- 16:51Speaker 3: of this lineup. I don't think it's any I don't
- 16:55Speaker 3: think it's any stretch to wonder why this team has
- 16:58Speaker 3: struggled a little bit since the All Star break. You know,
- 17:01Speaker 3: they had nine runs in Chicago, maybe it was I
- 17:05Speaker 3: can't remember how many runs it was in Chicago, but
- 17:08Speaker 3: they are under thirty runs for the second half in
- 17:11Speaker 3: nine games. They are not scoring like they were. And
- 17:15Speaker 3: Byron Buckson is a catalyst. He's dynamic, and he hasn't
- 17:19Speaker 3: looked when he was healthy, he wasn't looking great. You
- 17:22Speaker 3: could tell he was a little reserved, not going after stuff.
- 17:26Speaker 3: He made that one catch against the A's at the
- 17:28Speaker 3: warning track, but that was really one of the few
- 17:31Speaker 3: times he went all out in that span. So like
- 17:35Speaker 3: it's clear he was a little bit you know in
- 17:37Speaker 3: between and they gave him the injection. They said, they're
- 17:42Speaker 3: going to take the time and knock it out. But
- 17:44Speaker 3: it's certainly going to be a challenge for this offense
- 17:47Speaker 3: to keep going without their number one.
- 17:49Speaker 1: Got Twins are fifty five and fifty five back in
- 17:53Speaker 1: five hundred, tied with the Assros, one game behind Cleveland
- 17:58Speaker 1: in the wildcard race. White Sox again today, so the
- 18:01Speaker 1: Twins are now three back of Chicago. Cleveland was off
- 18:05Speaker 1: Tyler the it's great to hear Tom Poladd was high
- 18:10Speaker 1: fiving everybody in the in the clubhouse today or punching people?
- 18:13Speaker 1: Was that it Dan punching people.
- 18:15Speaker 4: Punching the medium a lot of the guys.
- 18:18Speaker 1: Jeremy's old go ahead, Dan.
- 18:22Speaker 3: No just one of those guys you want to punch.
- 18:24Speaker 3: But he punched him in the arm, not in the
- 18:26Speaker 3: face like you'd want to punch him.
- 18:28Speaker 1: But uh, like, you know, if that game had ended
- 18:33Speaker 1: with a one hit shutout the way it was looking
- 18:35Speaker 1: like it was going in, I was thinking, how you
- 18:38Speaker 1: know the Twins are just in a mess, Jared, I mean,
- 18:40Speaker 1: and and they're not out of it. But Jeremy's old
- 18:42Speaker 1: has been saying like and Tom Poladd too, like the
- 18:45Speaker 1: indications are we're going to buy and you're looking at
- 18:49Speaker 1: it going really and there's still a lot of questions
- 18:51Speaker 1: about it. But but like it's hard to argue with
- 18:56Speaker 1: the vibes. I guess like that, like that clubhouse must
- 18:59Speaker 1: be so fired up now, And how do you go
- 19:01Speaker 1: in there and not tell that team Tyler that you're
- 19:04Speaker 1: gonna we're gonna try, We're going to try to add
- 19:06Speaker 1: something to this.
- 19:06Speaker 4: Yeah, and it's it's what we hit on a little
- 19:09Speaker 4: bit before.
- 19:09Speaker 5: It's one like you say those things and now it's
- 19:13Speaker 5: time to make good on it, you know, for lack
- 19:17Speaker 5: of a better way to say it.
- 19:18Speaker 4: And you know they're the guys are winning.
- 19:20Speaker 5: Granted it's not smooth, you know, it's not the sure
- 19:24Speaker 5: thing when where the fans are in the whole nine innings,
- 19:27Speaker 5: but they're winning. And you always hear about these teams.
- 19:31Speaker 5: It's like, you know, you can do whatever you want
- 19:33Speaker 5: all season, get hot in September, go into October ready
- 19:36Speaker 5: to play, and that's that's all you can do. And
- 19:39Speaker 5: it's so hard to predict, you know, it's so hard
- 19:42Speaker 5: to know how anyone's gonna do anything. You know, someone
- 19:45Speaker 5: could roll out of bed tomorrow and roll an ankle.
- 19:47Speaker 5: You know, baseball is just such a crazy game because
- 19:49Speaker 5: there's there's so many games to play still, and they're
- 19:54Speaker 5: making all the statements they need to. For me, it's
- 19:56Speaker 5: they're showing the fight, they're showing the heart. Chelte's got
- 19:59Speaker 5: those guys all on the same page, ready to go
- 20:02Speaker 5: and compete until the last out. You know, it's it's
- 20:04Speaker 5: and it's top to bottom. It's that entire lineup. Someone's
- 20:08Speaker 5: contributing every day. You know, Royce comes off the bench
- 20:10Speaker 5: to hit his walk off. You know Clemens is playing
- 20:13Speaker 5: first or whatever he was today. It's it's a revolving
- 20:16Speaker 5: door of pieces and they're making it work. And you know,
- 20:19Speaker 5: it's we keep We've talked about the bullpen, We've talked
- 20:21Speaker 5: about everything. It's at this point I think any piece
- 20:25Speaker 5: that everyone agrees will make a positive change and fit
- 20:29Speaker 5: with that locker room is a safe move to make.
- 20:32Speaker 4: I think you.
- 20:32Speaker 5: Value the you value the value added versus the cost.
- 20:36Speaker 5: At the end of the day, you know, if it's
- 20:38Speaker 5: a guy who was a teammate with the guys that
- 20:41Speaker 5: are in there, whatever it may be, and there's a
- 20:42Speaker 5: chance to go get somebody to improve you just you
- 20:45Speaker 5: have to Uh, it's point blank.
- 20:47Speaker 4: You've you've made the statements.
- 20:49Speaker 5: You know, the guy running the show has made the statements,
- 20:52Speaker 5: so you know, why not, you know, and worst case
- 20:56Speaker 5: you try and get fans out there and then you say,
- 20:58Speaker 5: hey man, we tried, We're going to try again next year.
- 21:01Speaker 1: Well it sets up what is a very interesting series
- 21:05Speaker 1: this weekend with Seattle another team that is in the
- 21:08Speaker 1: in the mix for the wild card or for l West.
- 21:11Speaker 3: Real quick, real quick. We needed to talk about Joe
- 21:13Speaker 3: Ryan too, because Joe Ryan was disappointing. Joe Ryan said
- 21:18Speaker 3: in the butt yeah we got we can't go through that.
- 21:21Speaker 1: Without Oh yeah, but let's bring it back.
- 21:23Speaker 3: Yeah but sorry, yeah, go for it. I mean, Joe
- 21:26Speaker 3: Joe Ryan, that was a he's disappointed with that outing.
- 21:29Speaker 3: I think everybody was disappointed with that outing. He said
- 21:32Speaker 3: he is fighting balance and lower half issues right now.
- 21:36Speaker 3: Is what is the way he described it. His fastball
- 21:39Speaker 3: velocity average ninety four to six in the first inning,
- 21:43Speaker 3: he dropped off by two miles an hour by the
- 21:46Speaker 3: sixth inning. Like you said, it wasn't historically as bad.
- 21:49Speaker 3: And you could argue if Perez doesn't get that triple
- 21:53Speaker 3: he doesn't score, so it's six innings, three runs, but
- 21:56Speaker 3: it felt like Kansas City was on him afterwards, Like,
- 22:00Speaker 3: I've talked to Joe Ryan for five years. He does
- 22:03Speaker 3: not usually look this way where he's kind of searching
- 22:07Speaker 3: for answers and is a little bit out of it.
- 22:10Speaker 3: I asked, like, how often have you felt like this?
- 22:12Speaker 3: And he said, it's been a while. I've just got
- 22:14Speaker 3: to keep digging and trying to figure it out. I
- 22:16Speaker 3: kind of know what's going on. It's not like it's
- 22:19Speaker 3: a scary thing by any means. I'm not concealing anything.
- 22:22Speaker 3: It's just something frustrating that's not inspiring confidence. That's not
- 22:29Speaker 3: a confidence fuilled statement. Derek Shelton did think he's just
- 22:33Speaker 3: a little bit off. I read that comment to him
- 22:36Speaker 3: today and he said that just sounds like somebody that's frustrated.
- 22:38Speaker 3: The one thing you know on Joe Ryan is he
- 22:40Speaker 3: gets to the lab, he works on it. He is looking
- 22:43Speaker 3: out of fix things at all times. But he's gonna
- 22:45Speaker 3: have to do a lot of work. It sounds like
- 22:47Speaker 3: there's a lot to be done he does. Because he
- 22:50Speaker 3: pitched Wednesday, looked like it would be at the earliest Tuesday,
- 22:54Speaker 3: in Kansas City before he goes again because they are
- 22:56Speaker 3: off Monday, on the day of the trade deadline. But
- 22:59Speaker 3: I certainly think this is if there was any chance
- 23:02Speaker 3: he was getting traded, I don't know how you trade
- 23:03Speaker 3: him in this spot, because yeah, it's like you wonder,
- 23:07Speaker 3: but also I don't think he was going to be
- 23:09Speaker 3: traded in the first place. They were gonna hang on
- 23:10Speaker 3: to him. But it's you know, your two all stars
- 23:14Speaker 3: are down right now and you're gonna need some help
- 23:16Speaker 3: without question.
- 23:19Speaker 1: All right, well, now we'll look ahead and with that
- 23:23Speaker 1: one more word from Fox one. That's right. Fox one
- 23:31Speaker 1: is your home for MLB on Fox MLBN. Fox is
- 23:35Speaker 1: streaming on Fox one. The Race to October starts now,
- 23:37Speaker 1: and we have your front row seat to the wildest
- 23:40Speaker 1: walk offs, lights out pitching, and clutch plays all season long.
- 23:43Speaker 1: Follow every can't miss matchup as teams battle for a
- 23:46Speaker 1: spot in the postseason. Then stream the twenty twenty six
- 23:49Speaker 1: World Series live on Fox one at home or on
- 23:52Speaker 1: the go live or on demand, Never miss a moment
- 23:55Speaker 1: stream now Seattle.
- 23:57Speaker 2: This weekend.
- 23:58Speaker 1: They actually played him on as one on Saturday afternoon,
- 24:02Speaker 1: but Friday night game and then two afternoon games Saturday
- 24:05Speaker 1: and Sunday. Obviously late starts out here Central Time nine
- 24:08Speaker 1: to ten on Friday, three ten, Saturday and Sunday. It's
- 24:10Speaker 1: the final series before the trade deadline, so obviously very
- 24:14Speaker 1: consequential in that regard. We expect to hear some news.
- 24:17Speaker 1: We are not planning another We were planning to have
- 24:19Speaker 1: a Friday show, but this is now our third show
- 24:22Speaker 1: for the week. We will probably come back on if
- 24:24Speaker 1: there is a big trade over the weekend.
- 24:26Speaker 2: But it's the.
- 24:28Speaker 1: Beginning of a very tough stretch. Guys, Seattle, Kansas City,
- 24:32Speaker 1: which like, as far as the Twins are concerned, the
- 24:35Speaker 1: Royals are a juggernaut. Then then they're at Milwaukee and
- 24:38Speaker 1: l Central Leaders. Then they're against Baltimore, who's in the
- 24:40Speaker 1: Wildcard mix, Philadelphia and the NL Wildcard Mix, and then
- 24:43Speaker 1: Atlanta the Al East leaders in the ninety one World
- 24:48Speaker 1: Series thirty fifth anniversary show. Even after that at San
- 24:53Speaker 1: Diego at A's. But then it's two series each against
- 24:56Speaker 1: Chicago and Detroit. Like it's it's a sprint to the
- 24:59Speaker 1: finish for the the Twins from here and a big
- 25:01Speaker 1: three days. The baseball in the field almost feels secondary
- 25:06Speaker 1: in some ways, Dan.
- 25:09Speaker 2: It is.
- 25:11Speaker 3: I think it's good that they have the idea which
- 25:13Speaker 3: way they want to head. As far as the trade deadline,
- 25:16Speaker 3: they don't have to worry about that. They can't. I
- 25:19Speaker 3: think that helps. They're doing what they can to let
- 25:22Speaker 3: the guys know, hey, don't worry about the trade deadline
- 25:26Speaker 3: like worry about winning games. Derek Shelton addressed them on
- 25:30Speaker 3: Tuesday and kind of tried to get out in front
- 25:32Speaker 3: of it. He said, there's probably scar tissue with a
- 25:35Speaker 3: lot of these guys from what they dealt with last
- 25:37Speaker 3: year watching ten of their friends get traded, you know.
- 25:40Speaker 3: I mean, look, it's one thing last year where you
- 25:42Speaker 3: knew that the impending free agents, I think there were
- 25:45Speaker 3: five of them you knew they'd get traded. But the
- 25:47Speaker 3: other five guys, that was a little bit shocking. And
- 25:50Speaker 3: I've talked to a lot of guys about that this week.
- 25:53Speaker 3: So between Shelton talking to them, between Jeremy's oul saying
- 25:56Speaker 3: that on Tuesday night that the Twins are gonna be buyers,
- 25:58Speaker 3: They're doing everything they can and to take that the
- 26:01Speaker 3: psychological side and ease it. I guess a little bit
- 26:04Speaker 3: for the Twins that should help, because this is a
- 26:08Speaker 3: juggernaut coming up. And it's not just the you know,
- 26:12Speaker 3: this is a three city trip that has not been kind.
- 26:14Speaker 3: The third city has not been kind to the twins
- 26:16Speaker 3: the last couple of times they've done two city trips,
- 26:19Speaker 3: so you know, they need to get out there and
- 26:21Speaker 3: get off to a good start in Seattle and then
- 26:23Speaker 3: take advantage like they do with Kansas City this time,
- 26:26Speaker 3: even though it was just absolutely pulling teeth shout out
- 26:30Speaker 3: by the way. You you shouted him out already. But
- 26:32Speaker 3: Randy Doabnach, my friend Nick Nelson, sent out a tweet
- 26:36Speaker 3: last night saying the worst loss of the year, and
- 26:41Speaker 3: Randy Dabnach was one of the twelve people to like
- 26:43Speaker 3: the tweet and my god, I miss you so much.
- 26:46Speaker 3: I'm gonna come over and say hi. And it was
- 26:51Speaker 3: he was so good. Gonna go over and say hi
- 26:53Speaker 3: to them when we get to Kansas City. After the
- 26:55Speaker 3: trade deadline, things settled down, but it's a hectic time
- 26:58Speaker 3: and it is it is definitely on guy's minds. There's
- 27:02Speaker 3: just no regardless if they've been warned about it. Ryan
- 27:06Speaker 3: Jeffers is thinking about it, Trevor Larnok's thinking about it.
- 27:10Speaker 3: They all are you just it's unavoidable after the way
- 27:13Speaker 3: last year went to.
- 27:14Speaker 1: Not think about what straded line, right, it's inevitable predictions.
- 27:20Speaker 3: So wait, Zach, Yeah, Oh go ahead, No, no, go,
- 27:24Speaker 3: go go ahead with the predictions part.
- 27:26Speaker 1: Let's like this might be the last time we convene
- 27:28Speaker 1: before Monday's deadline. Dude, Tyler, do we have a prediction
- 27:32Speaker 1: for a move that might happen over the weekend?
- 27:34Speaker 4: Oh?
- 27:35Speaker 5: I mean one that makes sense just with everything where
- 27:39Speaker 5: it is. Honestly, mister Dobnak would be kind of cool
- 27:43Speaker 5: to have in a rotation.
- 27:44Speaker 4: He's a guy to lean on a little bit.
- 27:46Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 27:46Speaker 5: We were talking earlier, like we're about to go maybe
- 27:49Speaker 5: see Castillo in Seattle. I think he's like an extra
- 27:52Speaker 5: arm in their rotation. Like there's some guys that aren't
- 27:56Speaker 5: having great years or in Randy's case, or finally getting
- 27:58Speaker 5: back to the big leagues that are available. I mean,
- 28:01Speaker 5: there's some there's some real options out there. That's why
- 28:03Speaker 5: it's so hard to know, because we don't know what
- 28:05Speaker 5: everybody else is one to throw at these guys.
- 28:07Speaker 4: It's that's what's gonna get crazy. I mean, the school bold.
- 28:10Speaker 5: Talks are getting wild with all the big dogs in play.
- 28:12Speaker 5: It's it's like I said before, it's an exciting time
- 28:16Speaker 5: of year, and it's it's gonna be a fun Hopefully
- 28:18Speaker 5: it's a fun weekend. We get two out of three.
- 28:20Speaker 5: We got to keep the throttle down. That's a big thing.
- 28:23Speaker 5: We need to win some games in Seattle. Make sure
- 28:25Speaker 5: it happens.
- 28:27Speaker 3: I will not go names. I will not go names.
- 28:31Speaker 3: They just never work that way. It never works that way. Like,
- 28:34Speaker 3: but I will say net positive players added three players
- 28:41Speaker 3: are not net positive players added. Because positive players added three,
- 28:45Speaker 3: maybe lose one. That's the like off your major league roster.
- 28:50Speaker 3: So I'm gonna go somehow they're going to end up
- 28:54Speaker 3: with two more good players on their major league roster
- 28:57Speaker 3: than they have right now. I don't know what that's
- 28:59Speaker 3: going to look like. I don't know if it's gonna
- 29:01Speaker 3: be some monster. I don't think there's gonna be a monster.
- 29:04Speaker 3: I don't see Mason Miller coming to the Padres. As
- 29:07Speaker 3: much fun as that would be. That would be so
- 29:09Speaker 3: much fun, by the way, Yeah, but I don't see
- 29:12Speaker 3: them doing that. But I do think that they will
- 29:15Speaker 3: add two bodies to help this team. By you know,
- 29:19Speaker 3: three o'clock Pacific time on Monday.
- 29:24Speaker 1: Mine will be that the current roster. I agree they're
- 29:30Speaker 1: going to add people, but they're not going to trade
- 29:33Speaker 1: current players to do like they'll trade prospects. That's my
- 29:37Speaker 1: which means I'm saying they're not going to trade Jeffers.
- 29:39Speaker 4: Which maintaining vibes adding to the team.
- 29:43Speaker 2: Yeah, that's so.
- 29:44Speaker 3: Wait behind the scenes, Zach, I've seen a type in
- 29:47Speaker 3: there on your keyboard while you're doing this. Were you
- 29:50Speaker 3: able we're able to get him? Were you were able
- 29:52Speaker 3: to track him down again?
- 29:53Speaker 2: The fan, We're gonna see.
- 29:55Speaker 1: It's gonna be a timing issue. We're going to see
- 29:56Speaker 1: if we can find a time to speak, but I
- 29:59Speaker 1: would love to provide the for the fans. With that,
- 30:01Speaker 1: I'll transition into one more shout out for Fox one
- 30:05Speaker 1: as we said, and we'll be in Fox streaming on
- 30:07Speaker 1: Fox one and you can follow every camp mismatchup as

- 30:57Speaker 1: you next time. Bye bye, all right, thank you so
- 31:00Speaker 1: much for joining us. I know it has been a
- 31:02Speaker 1: crazy couple of days for you. First off, I just
- 31:05Speaker 1: have to confirm. Did you watch the first eight and
- 31:09Speaker 1: a half innings of Thursday's game and then leave and
- 31:12Speaker 1: miss the bottom of the ninth while taking a shower?
- 31:17Speaker 2: Yeah? You know, what can I say? I I didn't
- 31:22Speaker 2: shower yesterday. I was so upset with the shutout loss
- 31:26Speaker 2: and I was watching today. I was trying to stick
- 31:29Speaker 2: it out till the end, and then you know, I
- 31:31Speaker 2: had to I had to leave to pick up my
- 31:34Speaker 2: daughter from her summer camp. So I felt like I
- 31:37Speaker 2: should go shower, you know, and I want to be disgusting,
- 31:39Speaker 2: and took the shower and came out and saw the
- 31:43Speaker 2: news and you know, your head spinning. You get in
- 31:45Speaker 2: the car, you drive, you pick her up, and then
- 31:46Speaker 2: you hear about you know, there's a cappy bar incident,
- 31:51Speaker 2: and a cappy bar incident. Yeah, yeah, a capy bar.
- 31:56Speaker 2: I was in the largest living rodent. Yeah that's right.
- 32:00Speaker 2: And you know, everyone's okay, thank god. But it was
- 32:03Speaker 2: a wild day. It was a lot of process, for sure.
- 32:07Speaker 1: At what point do you maybe start to look in
- 32:10Speaker 1: the mirror and realize that you might be the problem
- 32:13Speaker 1: standing in the way of the team's success.
- 32:19Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, I mean that hurts a lot, Zach.
- 32:21Speaker 2: I'm not gonna lie cuts deep. It's it's not something
- 32:23Speaker 2: any fan really ever wants to grapple with. But you know,
- 32:28Speaker 2: at some point you look at the facts and just
- 32:30Speaker 2: see that like it's plainly obvious that that you're part
- 32:34Speaker 2: of the problem, and uh, you know, I gotta I
- 32:38Speaker 2: gotta say, I'm getting close to that point. Last one
- 32:41Speaker 2: that we'll let you go, I mean is this gonna
- 32:43Speaker 2: be it for you. Are you going to watch any
- 32:44Speaker 2: more Twins games after? After this? I mean it's hard
- 32:50Speaker 2: not to watch, you know. You you realize the unfallible
- 32:54Speaker 2: logic of clearly you're costing your team by by watching
- 32:59Speaker 2: the games, and that they do better when you walk away,
