- 3:26Speaker 3: Man.
- 3:26Speaker 1: They kind of paid away for people like us to
- 3:28Speaker 1: be in this space, the one, the Only man, mister
- 3:30Speaker 1: Matt Barnes, Big Dot.
- 3:31Speaker 3: We appreciate your sliding on this man, thank you for
- 3:33Speaker 3: having me. Man. I appreciate it.
- 3:34Speaker 1: Love love yeah, good Now, I don't know.
- 3:40Speaker 2: Let's let's just get straight to it though. Yeah, uh,
- 3:43Speaker 2: you know, we just we just did your part, you
- 3:45Speaker 2: know what I mean, shout to y'all having us on.
- 3:47Speaker 7: But we left off talking about how Jeff said defense. No,
- 3:52Speaker 7: he said, you don't play What did you say? He
- 3:54Speaker 7: said something like after a while, they just started giving
- 3:56Speaker 7: it to I mat, don't do that.
- 3:58Speaker 5: I'm saying, voter, Yeah it's voter, yeah for sure. But
- 4:02Speaker 5: I was saying Kobe could play defense when he won't.
- 4:04Speaker 7: But see, I only saw a clip, so I might
- 4:06Speaker 7: have missed the context. Yeah, I was like, I mean,
- 4:08Speaker 7: but defense though, play defense? But he made it eleven
- 4:16Speaker 7: times twelve twelve twelve. He was first team, I think.
- 4:20Speaker 5: And I was like, when you think of Kobe Bryant,
- 4:22Speaker 5: you don't think him as the best two way player ever.
- 4:25Speaker 5: But literally, his stats say he's the best two way
- 4:27Speaker 5: player ever, is bro And I'm like, you don't think that,
- 4:30Speaker 5: Like you don't think he a better defender than Scottie Pippen,
- 4:32Speaker 5: but the stats say, you know, Award said you're a
- 4:35Speaker 5: better definished.
- 4:35Speaker 7: But also think maybe because the scoring overshadowed with the
- 4:39Speaker 7: kind of work he was putting on defense, you know
- 4:42Speaker 7: what I mean?
- 4:42Speaker 3: And I would agree.
- 4:43Speaker 7: I mean, obviously, I think younger in his career, as
- 4:45Speaker 7: he was trying to get started, he was more locking
- 4:47Speaker 7: in on D because he had to be you know
- 4:49Speaker 7: what I mean. And I think as the team kind
- 4:51Speaker 7: of became his and he grew, he was still locking
- 4:53Speaker 7: on D. But he went and got people like run
- 4:55Speaker 7: our tests. He went and got people like me, Like
- 4:57Speaker 7: we used to really fight because me and Ron would
- 4:59Speaker 7: take the best players. If the nigga scored two three buckets, sash,
- 5:02Speaker 7: I got him. I got him, so we'd have to
- 5:04Speaker 7: argue with Bro like, now we got it. Bro, you
- 5:06Speaker 7: save all that MG for office and will handle this.
- 5:08Speaker 7: But he was definitely a competitor, uh, someone that just
- 5:13Speaker 7: to see again playing against him for a long time
- 5:15Speaker 7: and then playing on the same team as I mean,
- 5:16Speaker 7: you just got to see a whole other side of
- 5:18Speaker 7: just his dedication and just how sick he was of
- 5:21Speaker 7: trying to be the greatest thing. He used to NB
- 5:23Speaker 7: I gotta get six. It's like I got to be
- 5:25Speaker 7: able to sit at that table with MJ. Like he
- 5:27Speaker 7: was so dead set on being able to get that
- 5:30Speaker 7: one more ring so he could be in that table
- 5:32Speaker 7: in that conversation with MJ. But he was a sicko
- 5:35Speaker 7: when it came to just getting to it daily period.
- 5:39Speaker 3: No, I mean he said you couldn't play defense. Ya.
- 5:45Speaker 3: I wouldn't say that.
- 5:46Speaker 5: I just say that that had or the best two
- 5:48Speaker 5: way player ever, it just didn't come to my for me.
- 5:51Speaker 3: For Kobe Brown was like the best score one of
- 5:52Speaker 3: the best.
- 5:54Speaker 7: I mean I would put him in MJ is the
- 5:56Speaker 7: probably the best two way players.
- 5:58Speaker 3: Yeah, said that? Or who else would you throw in there?
- 5:59Speaker 7: I mean, obviously Scotty was great, but Scotty didn't have
- 6:01Speaker 7: the offense that those guys have. Scotty had great d
- 6:04Speaker 7: but he you know, obviously he could play offense too,
- 6:06Speaker 7: but it wasn't just the numbers that those two had
- 6:09Speaker 7: put up.
- 6:09Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean I would say Michael Jordan because but
- 6:13Speaker 5: now that they're doing his stats and stuff. His Stills
- 6:15Speaker 5: was kind of fake or whatever I learn from stop.
- 6:18Speaker 1: You'll start killing me and his ship boy that COVID shot.
- 6:25Speaker 1: The said, well, actually half that ship fake.
- 6:27Speaker 3: I said, it's no way he got that many more assistancy, bro,
- 6:33Speaker 3: that's crazy.
- 6:34Speaker 2: And Stills too, right, Yeah, John Stockton was crazy.
- 6:37Speaker 7: There should be a little bit of home cooking Kawhi
- 6:40Speaker 7: Leonard is up there too though, two way players. I
- 6:43Speaker 7: just think you don't get enough get to see enough
- 6:45Speaker 7: of him, Like Anthony Davis, you don't get to see
- 6:47Speaker 7: enough of these guys on consistent level. We know, when
- 6:49Speaker 7: they're out there and healthy, they're incredible. They can change games.
- 6:52Speaker 7: Kauhi as one finals MVPs. But just yet the consistency
- 6:55Speaker 7: of being able to be out there, not in night
- 6:57Speaker 7: out when you don't feel it or you're hurt or
- 6:59Speaker 7: whatever the situation be they've got, you know, whether it's
- 7:02Speaker 7: too many miles or just injuries that won't allow them
- 7:04Speaker 7: to get through them. It kind of takes to me,
- 7:07Speaker 7: It kind of takes them out of those conversations because
- 7:09Speaker 7: you just don't get to see enough of them.
- 7:11Speaker 1: We decided last week on the Morning Show that Kuh
- 7:14Speaker 1: Leonard is the best NBA player of all time. He's
- 7:16Speaker 1: had the best NBA career of all time. Because what
- 7:18Speaker 1: my boy got going on right now, legendary.
- 7:21Speaker 7: Water, the hustle is cold, they got a plant company
- 7:25Speaker 7: paying them twenty.
- 7:26Speaker 1: Eight no trees in sight, Uncle Hill on the way,
- 7:32Speaker 1: they take a while the balls and Buddy hat Hi bro.
- 7:37Speaker 7: When I asked my team the other day. They're like, man,
- 7:39Speaker 7: that's great journalism because it is life. Don't be safe
- 7:42Speaker 7: like they're trying to blow the top off of ship.
- 7:45Speaker 3: He said the pay type in right, is that nation
- 7:52Speaker 3: though it is?
- 7:54Speaker 2: Or is the journalist just being a great journalist doing
- 7:57Speaker 2: his job to Kawhi Leonard.
- 8:00Speaker 3: You said that ain't game.
- 8:01Speaker 1: The person who worked for that company quote unquote, that's
- 8:04Speaker 1: who snitch.
- 8:04Speaker 5: That's the person that they messed it like. They changed
- 8:07Speaker 5: his distorted his voice so he couldn't tell who it was.
- 8:09Speaker 1: Come onment they put the American lost one of the
- 8:11Speaker 1: voice off.
- 8:11Speaker 7: You can tell he still had a little bit of
- 8:13Speaker 7: sugar in that tank.
- 8:17Speaker 2: Couldn't take it away. You can't fighting Sometimes just when
- 8:21Speaker 2: they say moment for you want to dud.
- 8:26Speaker 6: They got whoot.
- 8:29Speaker 2: Yeah, that's who got all the tea though, using that
- 8:30Speaker 2: community got all the tea. So he said that trouble
- 8:35Speaker 2: was coming through the clock. And what you heard that?
- 8:40Speaker 3: Man?
- 8:43Speaker 1: Man, you had a crazy career. Man, what's one of
- 8:46Speaker 1: your favorite teams that you played for?
- 8:48Speaker 3: Oh?
- 8:48Speaker 7: Man, I got to I think the California I'm a
- 8:50Speaker 7: Californian dude. Man grew up in California with u c
- 8:53Speaker 7: l A And been in California pretty much my whole life.
- 8:55Speaker 7: So being able to you know, go to u c
- 8:57Speaker 7: l A, play for the Lakers, play for the Clippers.
- 9:00Speaker 3: That was dope.
- 9:00Speaker 7: And then you know when I was with the Clippers,
- 9:02Speaker 7: we were better than the Lakers. You know, that was
- 9:04Speaker 7: that Lob City team, the e CP Jamal Crawford, Blake,
- 9:07Speaker 7: DeAndre JJ we had a team. And then get a
- 9:11Speaker 7: chance to play with Cobe and and Powell and buying
- 9:14Speaker 7: them and that.
- 9:15Speaker 3: Crul and then the Golden State.
- 9:17Speaker 7: You know, we had a crazy we believe run in
- 9:19Speaker 7: two thousand and six, seven eight, and then to go
- 9:21Speaker 7: back the other year before I retired and get a
- 9:24Speaker 7: chance to play with Steph Clay and KD and Dre.
- 9:27Speaker 7: You know, the interesting thing about that team was as
- 9:30Speaker 7: great as they were, is how they took our ship
- 9:32Speaker 7: to the next level and you know, put four rings
- 9:35Speaker 7: on it. They were so fascinated about the way that
- 9:37Speaker 7: team got down. What was so and so like, what
- 9:39Speaker 7: was it like when you all went out, like the media,
- 9:41Speaker 7: the fans, the players, It was just like a fascination
- 9:44Speaker 7: about that team that almost became urban legend because if
- 9:46Speaker 7: you think about it, all we fucking did was won the.
- 9:49Speaker 3: First round the second round. But that's crazy, have it?
- 9:53Speaker 3: You know?
- 9:54Speaker 7: You know that just kind of the mystique in the
- 9:55Speaker 7: ore have grown from it. But you know, I'd probably
- 9:59Speaker 7: say those three teams probably my three favorite.
- 10:02Speaker 3: Now we believe it was so culture. Yeah, it was.
- 10:05Speaker 3: That was just culture.
- 10:06Speaker 1: Like that means a lots of the b d Doug
- 10:08Speaker 1: Ak forty seven, Come on, bro.
- 10:10Speaker 3: Like that's history. For us.
- 10:11Speaker 7: That was a bunch of you know, kind of misfits,
- 10:13Speaker 7: so to speak, you know what I mean. I was
- 10:15Speaker 7: trying to make the league at the time. You know,
- 10:17Speaker 7: Jack had gotten some shootouts and some trouble in Indie
- 10:19Speaker 7: and he got shipped to our team. Baron was talented
- 10:22Speaker 7: but injured. Jay Rich was there but hadn't really had
- 10:25Speaker 7: no help, you know. The way we were able to
- 10:27Speaker 7: kind of just come together us a young Monte Ellis
- 10:28Speaker 7: fresh out of high school, bullet mean, and for us
- 10:31Speaker 7: to kind of just bring it all together in the
- 10:33Speaker 7: last and you know, Jeff, I mean, the season really
- 10:35Speaker 7: could started after All Stars. So for us to put
- 10:38Speaker 7: all that together after All Star and win sixteen out
- 10:41Speaker 7: of twenty two games to make the playoffs, it was.
- 10:44Speaker 3: It was a crazy run.
- 10:47Speaker 2: How did you lock in on defense like that? When
- 10:49Speaker 2: did did you come to the league all that time?
- 10:52Speaker 7: I kind of learned because you know, I was a
- 10:54Speaker 7: guard in high school. Then when I went to UCLA,
- 10:56Speaker 7: we had back to bath the number one recruiting classes
- 10:58Speaker 7: and super loaded with all McDonald's, all Americans and five stars.
- 11:02Speaker 7: So to get on the court, I had to go
- 11:03Speaker 7: down and play the power forward and this is like
- 11:05Speaker 7: when power forwards are really power forward, So I had.
- 11:07Speaker 3: To kind of move around down there.
- 11:09Speaker 7: And then when I got to the league, I had
- 11:10Speaker 7: to move back to guards because that's two thousand and two,
- 11:12Speaker 7: so that's when you're really in your position.
- 11:14Speaker 3: One, two and three and.
- 11:15Speaker 7: Four were all very different, right, I mean you threw
- 11:17Speaker 7: the ball on the post before you shot. At three,
- 11:20Speaker 7: you've got the rebound and throw it to the point guard,
- 11:22Speaker 7: so you of course to break the game, which is different.
- 11:24Speaker 5: So it just kind of took me a minute to
- 11:25Speaker 5: kind of readjust and find that. But I just knew
- 11:27Speaker 5: I was a football player of hard so just defensive
- 11:28Speaker 5: and physicality with something that I love. But I you know,
- 11:32Speaker 5: as I kind of started hanging my hat on it.
- 11:34Speaker 7: I mean, I just felt like I had the greatest
- 11:36Speaker 7: job in the world. Every single night, I got to
- 11:38Speaker 7: guard the best player on the other team. So that's
- 11:40Speaker 7: mellow one night, Kobe kd Ron, Dwayne Waye, Paul Pierce,
- 11:45Speaker 7: t Mac you know, you know, used to every single
- 11:48Speaker 7: night I was guarding that person. So that's you know, obviously, yeah,
- 11:51Speaker 7: you want to score twenty or thirty, but I really
- 11:53Speaker 7: kind of took that challenge of I know, these guys
- 11:55Speaker 7: are great scores, but you know, I'm gonna make him
- 11:57Speaker 7: earn everything.
- 11:58Speaker 3: So that was just the mentality I went out.
- 12:00Speaker 5: I feel like great defenders got the easiest job from
- 12:04Speaker 5: a standpoint, because if you get killed, it's a person
- 12:08Speaker 5: you get killed, the best player in the league.
- 12:10Speaker 3: But if you stop them, you look amazing. Praise.
- 12:13Speaker 7: Yeah, And that was the thing. I mean, you know,
- 12:14Speaker 7: Jeff you is someone that could play offense. I mean
- 12:16Speaker 7: it's really when you get to a certain level, defense
- 12:19Speaker 7: makes a difference.
- 12:20Speaker 5: But motherfucker is so good, gonna make shot at the
- 12:23Speaker 5: end of the day. That's all you can do. That's
- 12:25Speaker 5: why I used to be like, I don't care about
- 12:27Speaker 5: going my matchup. Put me, put me on Kyrie. He's
- 12:30Speaker 5: gonna get thirty on everybody. But if I make him
- 12:33Speaker 5: get twenty one, job, made him work, that's his journey.
- 12:40Speaker 2: I never play, so I can't speak on that.
- 12:43Speaker 5: TJ McConnell, no, disrespected teachers, but he get me thirty?
- 12:47Speaker 5: You look crazy?
- 12:49Speaker 3: Do s Yeah? What work?
- 12:54Speaker 2: Is it true?
- 12:55Speaker 6: If you're doing brod Bro?
- 12:57Speaker 5: We got Tate Louise, he probably had like twelve the
- 13:00Speaker 5: game serious, I didn't.
- 13:02Speaker 3: That was my play game.
- 13:04Speaker 2: When Clay got sixty, that was on bro was it? Yeah?
- 13:07Speaker 5: I did not guard him one possession about defense, Bro,
- 13:10Speaker 5: I didn't guard him that.
- 13:11Speaker 3: I didn't help. I didn't do anything. It's like how
- 13:14Speaker 3: there's no help rules on Steff right, you know, or
- 13:17Speaker 3: or Clay?
- 13:18Speaker 7: But what was it like seeing that and being in
- 13:19Speaker 7: the whether it was on you or not, Like, what
- 13:21Speaker 7: was it like to just see motherfucker that unconscious?
- 13:23Speaker 3: Bro?
- 13:23Speaker 5: We could I couldn't believe it because like we were
- 13:26Speaker 5: only down like fourteen, so we're like when we in
- 13:29Speaker 5: the game and coaches like somebody put a fucking hand up,
- 13:33Speaker 5: like we are It was like, yeah he got forty two,
- 13:36Speaker 5: were like, what the fuck?
- 13:37Speaker 6: It's a second quarter? Like what PG was like, I
- 13:43Speaker 6: got him.
- 13:44Speaker 5: He's like, I don't give fuck got him sixty.
- 13:47Speaker 3: I was just on there laughing.
- 13:50Speaker 5: After a while, I just start looking for my stats,
- 13:52Speaker 5: so I need fifteen to eight. I was like, Nate,
- 13:55Speaker 5: I'm good, take me out, now, get me out now.
- 13:58Speaker 2: Any crazy games you remember playing with them?
- 14:01Speaker 7: Now, more against them, because you know that Lob City team.
- 14:04Speaker 7: Not that we were big bros, because we never really
- 14:06Speaker 7: want anything, but we're kind of the team in the
- 14:07Speaker 7: Western Conference. It was kind of open, like we were
- 14:09Speaker 7: the last team to beat them in the playoff series.
- 14:11Speaker 7: The year that Sterling got banned from the NBA yea
- 14:13Speaker 7: ESPEC they went on their run.
- 14:14Speaker 3: So just kind of see what they were on.
- 14:17Speaker 7: The one thing I'll say is like obviously playing against them,
- 14:19Speaker 7: them playing with them, Like Draymond was the heart and
- 14:21Speaker 7: soul of that team. And I remember, before Steph was
- 14:23Speaker 7: even established, when CP was the man. He's like, man,
- 14:26Speaker 7: fuck that, Like I'm riding with Steph every day. Steph's
- 14:28Speaker 7: the best point guard. And this is before Steph eventually
- 14:30Speaker 7: became the best point guard. But I just think his
- 14:33Speaker 7: confidence that he had and his toughness allowed those two
- 14:37Speaker 7: guys to kind of play a lot freer and they
- 14:42Speaker 7: were tough, Bro, they were just when they'd get on
- 14:45Speaker 7: a burner and then you throw KD in that mix.
- 14:47Speaker 7: I mean, that was probably the biggest cheat code. And
- 14:50Speaker 7: and you know, people still talk as that one of
- 14:52Speaker 7: the greatest teams were, if not the greatest team, you
- 14:54Speaker 7: know ever simple.
- 14:56Speaker 1: I feel like that's probably the greatest team of our generation.
- 14:59Speaker 1: I don't see to me a team you're doing.
- 15:00Speaker 3: I don't think no.
- 15:01Speaker 7: I don't think no team in history can beat them
- 15:04Speaker 7: with that set of rules. If you change the rules
- 15:06Speaker 7: and you're going back to the nineties with you know,
- 15:08Speaker 7: or the eighties with the Lakers and the hand check
- 15:10Speaker 7: and the pace of the game, or Mike's time where
- 15:12Speaker 7: you can really play lockdown defense, but with the pace
- 15:15Speaker 7: and the inability to really, yeah, put your hands on somebody.
- 15:19Speaker 3: They got too much scoring, too much.
- 15:21Speaker 2: I think they can be the one Lakers.
- 15:23Speaker 3: Come on, man, thirty, it's gonna put sack and and
- 15:26Speaker 3: foull him out. Got you right, No one could guard
- 15:28Speaker 3: him on the block.
- 15:33Speaker 5: Bro, Stephan is gonna put that pick, gonna be in
- 15:35Speaker 5: that drought coverage eleven thirties murder.
- 15:39Speaker 2: They got a glory out there. Freaky Fox ain't.
- 15:45Speaker 3: The fox.
- 15:47Speaker 1: Take that day, have a long day.
- 15:51Speaker 5: I respect them. They getting torched, Bro, he's tortured, Bro,
- 15:57Speaker 5: I respect him. Think that the pace, the play, that time,
- 16:01Speaker 5: the face this up and down and you can blink
- 16:04Speaker 5: and they go on eleven nothing run in thirty seconds.
- 16:07Speaker 3: So it was just they were different.
- 16:09Speaker 1: I've never seen demoralized in basketball like that, Like we've
- 16:11Speaker 1: seen m J kill, we've seen bron kill.
- 16:13Speaker 3: But they, like you said, them runs they will have.
- 16:15Speaker 1: And just the entire games over there, especially at Oracle
- 16:17Speaker 1: the crowd yelling you out of the game in two minutes.
- 16:21Speaker 7: That's the one thing I remember about Oracle Back and
- 16:22Speaker 7: we play. She smell like a dope sack. She smell
- 16:24Speaker 7: like a traphouse. That ship that smokes so much sweed
- 16:27Speaker 7: in there while we were playing, Bro.
- 16:28Speaker 3: It was crazy. Even my dad one time while we.
- 16:31Speaker 7: Were playing, you can see the smoke cloud. You can
- 16:32Speaker 7: smell it, but you can see the smoke cloud at
- 16:34Speaker 7: the top of the arena because my dad smoked cigarettes.
- 16:36Speaker 7: Was like that what you do at halftime. I was
- 16:38Speaker 7: going out of the smoke cigarets. They're gonna started smoking weed.
- 16:40Speaker 7: So I just pulled my joint out and started smoking
- 16:42Speaker 7: weed with him.
- 16:43Speaker 3: I slid damn there.
- 16:45Speaker 6: It was cracking and.
- 16:48Speaker 2: It's got to be the only place in the spot
- 16:51Speaker 2: in the city.
- 16:54Speaker 3: For really.
- 16:56Speaker 7: We smoked at our coach's house one time after we
- 16:58Speaker 7: won that playoff serious with We told a story about
- 17:00Speaker 7: this too.
- 17:01Speaker 3: We won.
- 17:01Speaker 7: We beat Dallas in game six. Stack and Nelly used
- 17:05Speaker 7: to live in the same condo on the lake and
- 17:07Speaker 7: Stack was like the middle and Nelly had the whole penhouse.
- 17:10Speaker 7: So we went to Jack's house to smoke first, and
- 17:11Speaker 7: we went up to Nelly's house to say hi before
- 17:13Speaker 7: we was about to hit the streets.
- 17:14Speaker 3: As soon as he walk.
- 17:15Speaker 7: In there, Hey, fellas, Woody Heralds is in the back
- 17:19Speaker 7: rolling doobies, go smoke with them.
- 17:21Speaker 3: Were like, what the fuck talking about? We went the
- 17:24Speaker 3: back and smoke.
- 17:25Speaker 7: We Woody Herrelson at our coach's house and then we
- 17:27Speaker 7: hit the streets. That's a post games right after the game.
- 17:32Speaker 2: That was right after the game.
- 17:35Speaker 6: Yeah, before we hit the real game.
- 17:39Speaker 3: Definitely.
- 17:40Speaker 2: I heard say he didn't even care what happened next.
- 17:42Speaker 7: No, he checked out, bro checked out. He wanted to
- 17:46Speaker 7: beat Dallas so bad.
- 17:47Speaker 3: We were.
- 17:47Speaker 7: We were so ready for Dallas. It was crazy, but
- 17:49Speaker 7: now motherfucker kicked his feet up after we beat Dallas.
- 17:52Speaker 3: That was it.
- 17:53Speaker 2: Yeah, b d was dynamic to bro the crazy part.
- 17:57Speaker 7: He had a bad back and the bad and he
- 17:59Speaker 7: was still average thirty. I say, if Baron Davis body
- 18:04Speaker 7: doesn't give out on him, he's probably easily one of
- 18:07Speaker 7: the top five point girls of all time because strength, speed, athleticism,
- 18:10Speaker 7: shot making, defense, he'd have a hold of his offensive game.
- 18:14Speaker 7: He was locked down on defense. He was big and strong.
- 18:16Speaker 7: It's one of one of them. You know, before Westbrook
- 18:19Speaker 7: and before Derreck Rose, it was Baron dunking on everybody.
- 18:22Speaker 3: You know what I means.
- 18:23Speaker 7: But his body just gave out. But still, even on
- 18:25Speaker 7: on one leg and in a bad back, he was
- 18:27Speaker 7: still giving people the fits.
- 18:29Speaker 2: So you don't even got no excuse talking about your knees.
- 18:32Speaker 2: He's talking about.
- 18:35Speaker 3: Cook. Ain't nothing in there bone?
- 18:38Speaker 5: I played twelve. Yeah, ain't nothing in there that's gone?
- 18:43Speaker 3: Did you heard it? Just beat up? I saw him
- 18:46Speaker 3: when I my last yom Milwaukee.
- 18:47Speaker 5: I was gonna keep playing and I was playing this dude,
- 18:49Speaker 5: Jordan or Jordan or I think I can't remember.
- 18:52Speaker 3: I was funny one on one and I heard a pop.
- 18:55Speaker 3: I'm like, I think I heard my knee.
- 18:57Speaker 2: Bro.
- 18:58Speaker 3: He was like, what you ain't doing nothing? Like, yeah,
- 19:00Speaker 3: I think I hurt my knee.
- 19:02Speaker 5: We went and play the placers. I played on it
- 19:04Speaker 5: and then I couldn't do nothing. The next day, I'm like, man,
- 19:06Speaker 5: they took me to get an MRI and they was like, yeah,
- 19:09Speaker 5: you need microfracture surgery. I was like, nigga, what I
- 19:12Speaker 5: don'tbody do that no more. It was like, basically it's over.
- 19:15Speaker 5: I was like it's over. It's like, yeah, it's over.
- 19:18Speaker 1: Damn.
- 19:19Speaker 3: It was like you can you know, you can rehab
- 19:21Speaker 3: and get an I'm cool.
- 19:24Speaker 2: I heard it was cold in football, bro, What made
- 19:27Speaker 2: you transition?
- 19:30Speaker 3: I grew up playing football.
- 19:30Speaker 7: Yeah, I was all American leather, the nation touchdowns from
- 19:33Speaker 7: the receiving position.
- 19:34Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 19:34Speaker 7: I just at the time, this is before the Jimmy
- 19:37Speaker 7: Grahams and and Antonio Gates and everyone was really crossing over.
- 19:40Speaker 3: And I was six eight, so I didn't really see No.
- 19:42Speaker 7: Six the dudes to see how they was getting hit
- 19:45Speaker 7: across the middle of what they would do after. So
- 19:47Speaker 7: I was recruited by you know, just as many schools
- 19:49Speaker 7: to play football or play both. But just when I
- 19:52Speaker 7: went to UCLA, I decided to lock in. I had
- 19:54Speaker 7: to work for basketball. Basketball was It wasn't like football
- 19:57Speaker 7: was my natural sport. Basketball was something I had to work. So,
- 20:00Speaker 7: you know, I just had to start ryan and then
- 20:03Speaker 7: find my way.
- 20:04Speaker 3: How you do that?
- 20:05Speaker 5: Though, Like being one of the best players in the
- 20:06Speaker 5: country and football and just like now I'm cool.
- 20:09Speaker 3: Just longevity.
- 20:10Speaker 7: Like I said, I didn't see, I felt and I
- 20:12Speaker 7: don't ever like to disrespect no sport because to be
- 20:14Speaker 7: able to make it to the top is you got
- 20:16Speaker 7: to be. But you know, I was six eight, you know,
- 20:18Speaker 7: thirty nine inch vert ran a four three, seven and seven.
- 20:22Speaker 3: Jesus Christ was the best, could really run out, you
- 20:29Speaker 3: know what I mean.
- 20:29Speaker 7: So it was and that's why, you know, I just
- 20:31Speaker 7: called myself a basketball or football player playing basketball once
- 20:34Speaker 7: I'm at the NBA, Like I love physicality. I get
- 20:36Speaker 7: out in the lane and finish, you know, like I'm
- 20:38Speaker 7: running the route. So it was just really just transitioning
- 20:41Speaker 7: that football mindset to a you know, a basketball skill
- 20:44Speaker 7: set and ship making it work for fourteen years.
- 20:46Speaker 3: That's crazy, bro. Yeah.
- 20:49Speaker 1: Today's show is brought to you by a hard Rock

- 22:20Speaker 5: go to the combo. You're getting drafted.
- 22:22Speaker 7: Just yeah, I mean, And after I left, you know,
- 22:25Speaker 7: and it was in the league. That's when dudes were
- 22:27Speaker 7: they never played no football at all, were hopping from
- 22:29Speaker 7: you know, Antonio Gates did play no football, hop from
- 22:31Speaker 7: you know, the state tournament to the NFL, and other
- 22:35Speaker 7: guys kind of follow suit. But it just wasn't really
- 22:38Speaker 7: happening when I came out.
- 22:40Speaker 3: Oh now I understand. Now, this motherfucker foul so hard.
- 22:44Speaker 3: He was bro his foul he found.
- 22:47Speaker 7: I just you know, I can't you know, Yeah, I
- 22:49Speaker 7: grew up. I was born in nineteen eighty, so when
- 22:51Speaker 7: I watched basketball, Bro, I was bad. Like that's when
- 22:53Speaker 7: niggas was punching each other and just getting a foul
- 22:55Speaker 7: for it.
- 22:56Speaker 3: You know what I mean.
- 22:57Speaker 5: So you know, when you go to shoot, a floater
- 23:00Speaker 5: might try to likewipe from behind, like.
- 23:02Speaker 3: When he swiped you could.
- 23:03Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, I'm trying to take it off, take off.
- 23:09Speaker 7: But you know we came from where. You know, you know,
- 23:10Speaker 7: if they're gonnaoul him, don't let them get their arms up.
- 23:12Speaker 3: You know what I mean.
- 23:13Speaker 7: And then again having a guard cold with all them
- 23:15Speaker 7: pump fakes. Once I tried the pump face, I'll just
- 23:19Speaker 7: you go get that at the line, Bro, you just
- 23:22Speaker 7: you had to find a way to survive, you know
- 23:24Speaker 7: what I mean. You had to find a way to
- 23:25Speaker 7: survive and make your niche. And you know, once I
- 23:27Speaker 7: was able to do that, you know, the career kind
- 23:29Speaker 7: of came along with it.
- 23:30Speaker 3: Was that the hardest personal for you to guard in
- 23:31Speaker 3: the league. Yeah, I missed him. I missed m J
- 23:33Speaker 3: by year.
- 23:34Speaker 7: So I kind of feel like Kobe's skill set was
- 23:36Speaker 7: you know, obviously, you know, you look at Bron's greatness
- 23:38Speaker 7: and all time leading scorer and top five and assists
- 23:41Speaker 7: and and Kadi's effortless scoring and Tea Max scoring and
- 23:44Speaker 7: Paul Pierce are scoring.
- 23:45Speaker 3: But code was different from.
- 23:46Speaker 7: A attacking Nothing was preconceived. He would look at you
- 23:50Speaker 7: and how you're lined up or how you're swiping at
- 23:51Speaker 7: the ball and attack any weakness he saw. So it
- 23:55Speaker 7: was just it was, it was always it was more
- 23:56Speaker 7: of a mental game than anything with him because he
- 23:58Speaker 7: was going to try to destroy you mentally and out
- 24:02Speaker 7: thank you the entire game instead of depending on anything else.
- 24:06Speaker 2: Yeah, who's the name that you know? People don't mention.
- 24:08Speaker 2: That's a tough cover you came across.
- 24:12Speaker 7: I think two guys that I think were good players
- 24:16Speaker 7: had the skill sets to be great playing. I don't
- 24:18Speaker 7: say that. I'd say this with all due respect, no
- 24:21Speaker 7: disrespect intended, But Rudy Gay has so much motherfucking game,
- 24:26Speaker 7: and then Jeff Green has so much game, both of them,
- 24:30Speaker 7: dudes on both sides of the bar. Maybe this is
- 24:33Speaker 7: just nice guys, maybe you know, just nice guys off
- 24:36Speaker 7: the rip that if they had a different mentality. I
- 24:37Speaker 7: felt like they could have been. But god, I mean
- 24:40Speaker 7: I didn't really I didn't really get a chance to
- 24:43Speaker 7: see like a I was always guarding the number one.
- 24:47Speaker 7: Really a chance for someone off the bench to come
- 24:49Speaker 7: and cook or you know, obviously played with it against
- 24:50Speaker 7: Jamal Crawford and how great he was. But I was
- 24:54Speaker 7: always guarding B one. So it wasn't really worried about
- 24:57Speaker 7: nobody else because I have my hands well with the one.
- 25:02Speaker 2: Man.
- 25:02Speaker 1: You mentioned some killers right there, for sure, I want
- 25:04Speaker 1: to ask you this question. Obviously you know what I'm saying, Chris,
- 25:08Speaker 1: all the smoke, all the smoke productions, how does that
- 25:10Speaker 1: come about?
- 25:11Speaker 6: Oh?
- 25:11Speaker 7: Man, We was smoking at my house today, me and bullshit,
- 25:14Speaker 7: Me and Jack was smoking in my crib in Berkeley,
- 25:17Speaker 7: and we were both I just finished maybe a year
- 25:20Speaker 7: out and Jack had finished two years before, and we
- 25:22Speaker 7: were doing ESPN in box and enjoying good, good feedback,
- 25:26Speaker 7: just like I kind of felt at ESPN. It's Disney,
- 25:28Speaker 7: and I've always been an habitual line stepper. I've never
- 25:31Speaker 7: really fallen in in line with the Disney protocol. So
- 25:34Speaker 7: I was just thinking, although ESPN was great and I
- 25:37Speaker 7: had a great time, there wasn't really who I was.
- 25:39Speaker 7: So I was just like, let's do a podcast. He's like,
- 25:40Speaker 7: what's a podcast? Like, I don't know, but I know
- 25:42Speaker 7: we could drink of smoke. He's like I'm in. And
- 25:44Speaker 7: then from there, hey, I speak on a DeMarcus Cousins
- 25:48Speaker 7: documentary and the producers like, hey, I heard you want
- 25:51Speaker 7: to do a podcast.
- 25:51Speaker 3: Like how you hear that? So I heard.
- 25:53Speaker 7: He's like, I want to meet you. I want you
- 25:55Speaker 7: to meet my friend Brian Daily at Showtime. He's launching
- 25:57Speaker 7: Showtime Digital. It's a basketball platform. I'm like, I don't
- 26:01Speaker 7: know what that is, but cool. He flew out from
- 26:02Speaker 7: New York. We sat down at the hotel in Santa Monica.
- 26:05Speaker 7: I pitched him the idea. Initially, they didn't want Jack,
- 26:09Speaker 7: they just wanted me, and I'm just like, no, I can't.
- 26:11Speaker 7: If it's not us, it's not nothing. So he kind
- 26:14Speaker 7: of went back and forth with that for a little bit.
- 26:16Speaker 7: They said, fine, we launched this shit. We didn't really
- 26:19Speaker 7: know what it was because again, I probably think Knuckleheads
- 26:21Speaker 7: was maybe four to six months before we came out,
- 26:24Speaker 7: no one really knew what this space was. There was
- 26:26Speaker 7: no bar, there was no there was no scattering report
- 26:29Speaker 7: on what was going on. So we just came out
- 26:31Speaker 7: and you know, the first season we got sports podcasts
- 26:34Speaker 7: of the year, We knocked out all the cal and
- 26:36Speaker 7: cow herds and all the old or white dudes that
- 26:39Speaker 7: had kind of been dominating the space, and then from
- 26:42Speaker 7: there we were off and running.
- 26:43Speaker 3: So we're there.
- 26:43Speaker 7: I think we're at show Time about three and a
- 26:45Speaker 7: half four years, and we started hearing whispers about Paramount
- 26:49Speaker 7: was going to come and buy Showtime and they didn't know,
- 26:51Speaker 7: if you know, if the sports side was going to last,
- 26:53Speaker 7: which was crazy to me because as big as we
- 26:56Speaker 7: were at the time and then boxing Showtime Boxing.
- 26:58Speaker 3: Was as big as it's been years.
- 27:00Speaker 7: Yeah, So when we started hearing that, you know, although
- 27:03Speaker 7: people started panicking, I'm like, what you know, I was
- 27:05Speaker 7: someone too, obviously with being the talent and helping create,
- 27:08Speaker 7: Like I was also the one in our first couple
- 27:10Speaker 7: of years negotiating our deals, so I got to see
- 27:12Speaker 7: behind them, behind.
- 27:14Speaker 3: The curtain and learn the game.
- 27:15Speaker 7: So you know, when it was time to make it,
- 27:17Speaker 7: decisions like let's start our own shit, I launched the company.
- 27:21Speaker 7: Told Brian Daley at the time he was figuring out
- 27:23Speaker 7: what was going on, I was like you know, once
- 27:24Speaker 7: everything clears, you took a chance on us, We owe
- 27:28Speaker 7: a lot to you. We got a position for you
- 27:29Speaker 7: me stacking in our homewood Julyanni and we launched this
- 27:32Speaker 7: thing and we went live as a company the beginning
- 27:36Speaker 7: of last year and signed a big deal with DraftKings
- 27:38Speaker 7: and a little bit over a year and a half
- 27:40Speaker 7: now we're vertical in basketball boxing MMA. We're just launching NFL.
- 27:48Speaker 7: We're in talks with MLB to be doing some stuff
- 27:50Speaker 7: with them. We're doing a political side. So it's just
- 27:53Speaker 7: it kind of caught fire. We're doing docs and scripted series.
- 27:56Speaker 7: So it went from a show to an entire company,
- 28:00Speaker 7: like thirty five employees and our own building now and
- 28:03Speaker 7: it got real, you know what I mean. We were
- 28:04Speaker 7: able to flip, you know, flip a show into an
- 28:07Speaker 7: entire company. So it's been it's been a blessing.
- 28:09Speaker 3: Bro.
- 28:11Speaker 1: I want to say congratulations and all that, by the way,
- 28:12Speaker 1: because people don't know how hard that is to run
- 28:14Speaker 1: the podcast. By y'all have turned that to a juggernaut
- 28:18Speaker 1: of a business, especially coming to all different sports. That's
- 28:20Speaker 1: a really hard task. So salute to y'all. Person foremost,
- 28:22Speaker 1: I appreciate it, and it was dope too.
- 28:24Speaker 7: I mean, obviously we're here to support and watch the fight,
- 28:27Speaker 7: but it was beautiful to see like we're here.
- 28:29Speaker 3: As all the smoke fight. You know.
- 28:30Speaker 7: Yeah, I got Andre Royd and Roy Jones out there,
- 28:33Speaker 7: and then you know, Ick and Barack we got our
- 28:35Speaker 7: fighting and in Morning Combat, so we got our fighting side,
- 28:38Speaker 7: and then me and Jack were kind of just in here,
- 28:40Speaker 7: you know, just to show face and talk a little
- 28:42Speaker 7: bit of shit, but really this is us supporting the
- 28:44Speaker 7: boxing side of our company. And it's crazy, you know
- 28:47Speaker 7: what I mean to think like a podcast or two
- 28:50Speaker 7: dudes smoking weed talking shit turned into like a you know,
- 28:53Speaker 7: this will be a couple hundred million dollar company in
- 28:55Speaker 7: the next few years.
- 28:57Speaker 3: Man, a couple of hundred million, Ain't that?
- 29:02Speaker 2: Just always see yourself in some type of media.
- 29:05Speaker 7: Now, bro, to be honest with you, like my first
- 29:08Speaker 7: job when I retired because I invested well, so you know,
- 29:11Speaker 7: when I when we won the championship with the Warriors,
- 29:14Speaker 7: I still had two years left on my deal. So
- 29:16Speaker 7: when I was decided to retire, getting myself a two
- 29:18Speaker 7: year window to kind of chill out and figure out
- 29:19Speaker 7: what was next, and media was never on the play.
- 29:21Speaker 7: My first no bullshit, My first real thing I was
- 29:24Speaker 7: adamant was about was being the shield for current players
- 29:27Speaker 7: smoking weed. So I was flying back and forth meeting
- 29:29Speaker 7: with the PA and meeting with the league about understanding
- 29:32Speaker 7: this plan, studying this plant. You guys are pumping the
- 29:34Speaker 7: full of these pills that are masking one thing and
- 29:36Speaker 7: call it causing long term effects, and you're killing people's
- 29:39Speaker 7: career because we smoked, Like you guys got to really
- 29:41Speaker 7: start taking a look at that. So you know, we
- 29:43Speaker 7: pushed that line for a couple of years and you know,
- 29:46Speaker 7: come come bubble time, they stopped testing and then ship
- 29:49Speaker 7: they haven't tested since. So that was kind of like
- 29:51Speaker 7: my first mission as a former player myself and shout
- 29:54Speaker 7: out to out Hearington.
- 29:55Speaker 3: My dog over at Viola. Yeah, we were really.
- 29:58Speaker 7: Just trying to push the line and waking the NBA up.
- 30:01Speaker 7: So I like to think that we had a small
- 30:03Speaker 7: part to do with that. And then you know, a
- 30:06Speaker 7: friend of mine just that you know, you were so
- 30:07Speaker 7: well spoken in your interviews, you should start doing media.
- 30:10Speaker 7: But you got to think, like my career caught the
- 30:13Speaker 7: tail end or the beginning of social media, like with
- 30:16Speaker 7: people really speaking up and kind of doing their own thing.
- 30:18Speaker 7: Like we didn't have an O two, you know, with
- 30:21Speaker 7: what the media said was it. So you know, my generation,
- 30:24Speaker 7: we didn't really fuck with the media. You know, there
- 30:26Speaker 7: was obviously some people respecting you were cool with, but
- 30:28Speaker 7: there's a lot of people with hitting agendas and motives
- 30:30Speaker 7: and with twist shit, so it was almost like talking
- 30:32Speaker 7: to the cops. So I didn't really fuck with the media,
- 30:34Speaker 7: but my friends, just like if you don't like it,
- 30:37Speaker 7: helped change it. Yeah, I can't change this ship. And
- 30:40Speaker 7: there was obviously are already athletes in the space. But
- 30:42Speaker 7: I think when we were able to come in, show
- 30:44Speaker 7: our face on the networks, but then cross over and
- 30:47Speaker 7: go to this digital side and just start talking real shit,
- 30:50Speaker 7: I didn't realize that we were inspiring everyone else to
- 30:53Speaker 7: be like damn, because we were you know, we were
- 30:55Speaker 7: both I mean, obviously Jackie put the ball in the
- 30:57Speaker 7: basket better than me, but we were role player journeyman,
- 31:00Speaker 7: you know what I mean. So I feel like if
- 31:01Speaker 7: we could do it, that would inspire anyone else to
- 31:03Speaker 7: be able to do it. And I didn't think that
- 31:05Speaker 7: it would have the following and the appreciation and then
- 31:09Speaker 7: just the almost the crowdedness of this space now. So yeah,
- 31:13Speaker 7: you know, we put our head down and went.
- 31:14Speaker 1: To work in a small amount of time. You say,
- 31:17Speaker 1: it's almost an initial situation. Now then we're become a
- 31:20Speaker 1: standard that people didn't have to try. They feel like
- 31:22Speaker 1: they have to tap into.
- 31:23Speaker 7: What's the new way people get their media? Yeah, I
- 31:25Speaker 7: mean I was talking to you know, Big Boy. I
- 31:26Speaker 7: don't know if you guys aren't from a big boy
- 31:28Speaker 7: Big Boy to do radio due I did his show
- 31:30Speaker 7: the other day and he was just talking about how,
- 31:32Speaker 7: you know, these companies used to pour into radio and
- 31:35Speaker 7: this is how they got there. But he's just like,
- 31:37Speaker 7: the money's not there, no more, the money's here. You know,
- 31:39Speaker 7: we're alltho, we're former athletes or whatever, like we're influencers
- 31:42Speaker 7: for these brands and they're ready to give you know,
- 31:45Speaker 7: whatever they feel you can bring back to them, you
- 31:47Speaker 7: know what I mean. So it's just it's a crazy
- 31:49Speaker 7: open space and I don't look at nobody in whether
- 31:51Speaker 7: it's basketball or sports in general. I don't look at
- 31:54Speaker 7: no one's competition because I feel like we all have
- 31:56Speaker 7: our different journeys and experiences and in ways to tell
- 31:59Speaker 7: them stories that that that we've been through. That to me,
- 32:02Speaker 7: it's just to me, it's more. I'm a fan now,
- 32:05Speaker 7: So I much rather hear Jeff and y'all speak than
- 32:08Speaker 7: I don't give a fuck how good you are at
- 32:09Speaker 7: your job if you've never done it, Like, there's some
- 32:11Speaker 7: stuff you're gonna miss and not understand. So I'd rather
- 32:14Speaker 7: hear it as a fan. I want to hear from
- 32:16Speaker 7: someone who did it. And I think that, you know,
- 32:19Speaker 7: we're fortunate enough to inspire a lot of people to
- 32:21Speaker 7: be like, Hey, let's let's go really talk our shit
- 32:23Speaker 7: and tell our stories and have fun. And once you
- 32:24Speaker 7: get good at this, there's real money in this space,
- 32:27Speaker 7: like real money in this space. So I was just like, man,
- 32:30Speaker 7: you're gonna pay me basketball money, the smoke weed and
- 32:33Speaker 7: talk shit on TV.
- 32:34Speaker 1: Fuck, And that's why some people As a journalist with
- 32:38Speaker 1: a heavy journalist and background, that's cool. I could watch
- 32:40Speaker 1: basketball my entire life, love it. But there's nothing I
- 32:43Speaker 1: could I'll speak because y'all been in those situations. I've
- 32:45Speaker 1: been in those words. I've been in them churches. That's
- 32:47Speaker 1: experience that you can't speak on and it means a lot.
- 32:49Speaker 7: Yeah, there's I mean, there's some fools that play that
- 32:52Speaker 7: can't that don't know shit.
- 32:54Speaker 3: Still that's a fact too.
- 32:55Speaker 7: But for the most part, there are guys that stand
- 32:58Speaker 7: out for you know, being the articulate our thoughts, our
- 33:00Speaker 7: feelings and what we've been through.
- 33:02Speaker 3: You know what I mean.
- 33:03Speaker 7: And you know you can call those guys out. And
- 33:06Speaker 7: the one thing I just don't like those I'm just
- 33:07Speaker 7: not a big fan of guys who played that talked
- 33:11Speaker 7: the ship like they never played. Like, Bro, you know
- 33:13Speaker 7: how tough it is to go through what these dudes
- 33:15Speaker 7: are going through or what they did or what's going on,
- 33:17Speaker 7: and you act like you've never been in that locker
- 33:18Speaker 7: room and you but the fucked up part is they're
- 33:20Speaker 7: getting rewarded for it. You talk that reckless, crazy, disrespectful
- 33:24Speaker 7: clickbait shit and next thing you know, you got you're
- 33:27Speaker 7: on more shows and you're getting more money. And I'm
- 33:29Speaker 7: just like, y'all are falling for the bait. That was
- 33:31Speaker 7: my one thing when I was with these networks is
- 33:33Speaker 7: I would I would never say anything I wouldn't say
- 33:35Speaker 7: to somebody's face. You know, they would oh, this is
- 33:37Speaker 7: this is the take. I was like, that's not my take.
- 33:39Speaker 7: Like I'm not gonna say that, like this is why
- 33:41Speaker 7: I'll break, this is how I'm gonna say it. But
- 33:43Speaker 7: they always kind of wanted because you know, unfortunately like
- 33:46Speaker 7: drama cells, disrespect cells, you know what I mean, And
- 33:49Speaker 7: it's it's the more clicks. But to me, I'd rather
- 33:51Speaker 7: get the clicks from just giving you some real shit
- 33:53Speaker 7: or having an authentic conversation and trying to trick you
- 33:56Speaker 7: into saying some dumb shit that's gonna go viral.
- 33:59Speaker 2: I agree. I mean I don't really know if no
- 34:03Speaker 2: athletes doing that. Yeah, no more than me, but I
- 34:05Speaker 2: feel like a lot of people, but what I'm saying
- 34:07Speaker 2: just in general, even outside of the athletes, people do
- 34:10Speaker 2: for that quick click.
- 34:11Speaker 7: Well because it's hard not to. But to me that
- 34:13Speaker 7: I don't think there's a ton of longevity in that
- 34:15Speaker 7: because when it comes to a time where you can't
- 34:17Speaker 7: really just speak on the dumb shit, you have to
- 34:19Speaker 7: like speak to what you know, what are you gonna
- 34:21Speaker 7: do that?
- 34:23Speaker 3: You know, me and Mack can relate. Man, he got
- 34:26Speaker 3: a jeft T championship. What's that? We were just on
- 34:30Speaker 3: the team. Yeah, absolutely, No.
- 34:33Speaker 7: I told I told my story, Like my whole thing
- 34:35Speaker 7: was too, so that that year was crazy. So I
- 34:37Speaker 7: was in Sack to start that year and just thought,
- 34:39Speaker 7: that's my hometown. I thought I was gonna you know,
- 34:41Speaker 7: I got a three year deal, they's got a new arena,
- 34:43Speaker 7: maybe helped get this team to the playoffs. I've a
- 34:46Speaker 7: long time like he was like the fuck out that being.
- 34:50Speaker 7: And then the funny part was that whole season, Bro,
- 34:53Speaker 7: I was like the boogiey whisper, like anything about the
- 34:55Speaker 7: Marcus cousin, from the owner to management to the coaches,
- 34:58Speaker 7: go tell to Marcus this fuck y'all y'all don't want
- 35:01Speaker 7: to tell him. I'm scared, like you know, but they
- 35:03Speaker 7: was really tiptoeing around Bro, and you know that was
- 35:07Speaker 7: that's my that's my little big homie. And uh so
- 35:10Speaker 7: I would kind of relay messages and as we're getting
- 35:13Speaker 7: towards I want to say, like heading towards the All
- 35:15Speaker 7: Star Bravery maybe two three games out of the A spot,
- 35:18Speaker 7: thinking like, okay, let's make a cool run and maybe
- 35:20Speaker 7: make the playoffs. They trade this nigga while he's on
- 35:22Speaker 7: the podium at All Star. I remember that in New
- 35:25Speaker 7: Orleans post game, and they were telling the whole time, no.
- 35:28Speaker 2: You're good, You're not going to work.
- 35:29Speaker 7: Make sure the Marcus knows he's he's he's a king
- 35:31Speaker 7: for life. And I'm you know, I'm in the snow
- 35:35Speaker 7: smoking one watching ship. Next thing I know, de Marcus
- 35:37Speaker 7: Cousins traded. I was like, what the fuck? So, you know,
- 35:40Speaker 7: I called management and yeah, you know we're gonna start over.
- 35:43Speaker 7: I'm like, this has been a been a start over franchise.
- 35:46Speaker 3: What we're talking about.
- 35:48Speaker 7: I was, so, you know, I just like, I'm too
- 35:50Speaker 7: old to start over. You know, I'm thirty six at
- 35:53Speaker 7: the time. It's like, what do you want to do.
- 35:54Speaker 7: I was like, I want to go to a good team. So,
- 35:56Speaker 7: you know, we worked my situation out, and you know
- 35:58Speaker 7: they wouldn't right. At the same time, Unforced KD went
- 36:01Speaker 7: down with the hyper extended knee and I went from
- 36:03Speaker 7: Sack to Golden State and I was playing the playing
- 36:06Speaker 7: good like my first game. You know, played twenty twenty
- 36:09Speaker 7: five minutes for that team. So I was consistently in
- 36:11Speaker 7: the rotation. The game KD comes to. Kd's out for
- 36:14Speaker 7: like two months. The game KD comes back. The first
- 36:18Speaker 7: game back, bro, I want to say I start off
- 36:21Speaker 7: good to hit my first two threes and come down
- 36:24Speaker 7: on someone's foot in It's the worst brand ink on
- 36:25Speaker 7: my career, like swollen, even has my legs swollen. I'm like,
- 36:29Speaker 7: what the fuck. So by the time I'm feeling any
- 36:33Speaker 7: we're maybe about a week or two hour from the
- 36:34Speaker 7: playoffs to fund. By the time I'm feeling halfway decent,
- 36:38Speaker 7: We're already in the Western Conference finals and having lost
- 36:40Speaker 7: the game. So I'm just like, as a vet, I
- 36:42Speaker 7: know how tight playoff rotation is getting you go with
- 36:45Speaker 7: what's working. So they're not going to bring someone like
- 36:47Speaker 7: me who's been hurt for this long and fuck up
- 36:50Speaker 7: the flow of the game. So I just kind of
- 36:51Speaker 7: it was hard for me because I felt like I
- 36:54Speaker 7: fought my whole career to be in that position, and
- 36:55Speaker 7: before I was hurt, I was contributing to that team.
- 36:58Speaker 7: But once the playoff came and I hurt, you know,
- 37:00Speaker 7: I just kind of turned into a fan and you
- 37:03Speaker 7: know helped, you know, helped Draymond through some tough times,
- 37:05Speaker 7: you know, helped Clay through some tough times. It was
- 37:07Speaker 7: just kind of just a super vet for those guys.
- 37:10Speaker 7: But yeah, like I didn't even so they had a
- 37:12Speaker 7: special I missed the ring ceremony the fall in you.
- 37:15Speaker 7: So they had a special ring ceremony for me. But
- 37:17Speaker 7: I got the ring. I got my son's rings, and
- 37:19Speaker 7: then I put the ring in a in a room
- 37:21Speaker 7: at the arena so I could watch the game. And
- 37:23Speaker 7: then we bounced early and I forgot about the ring
- 37:26Speaker 7: and I just wasn't really to the same, like I
- 37:29Speaker 7: don't count that, you know, I didn't count that shit,
- 37:31Speaker 7: you know what I mean? So next with your rings here,
- 37:33Speaker 7: I was like, okay, I'll be And I wasn't even
- 37:35Speaker 7: really living in the city at the time. I was
- 37:36Speaker 7: in La Alas. I'll find out a way if I
- 37:39Speaker 7: want to say. They had that motherfucker for like two
- 37:40Speaker 7: and a half years. And then one day they they
- 37:42Speaker 7: surprised me on NBA today on ESPN and and brought
- 37:46Speaker 7: like someone drove the ring from the bay to la
- 37:49Speaker 7: and gave it to me. If not that motherfucker probably
- 37:50Speaker 7: still be in that room.
- 37:52Speaker 3: I at at Oracle Arena.
- 37:54Speaker 2: I took mine. Where you got that motherfucker?
- 37:57Speaker 3: Now it's just sitting in the house. That's I didn't
- 38:01Speaker 3: go to the ceremony. Yeah, just sitting in the house.
- 38:03Speaker 3: He drove somebody drove up from Milwaukee to Indiana.
- 38:06Speaker 7: Yeah, I just felt like I had man, I had
- 38:07Speaker 7: to I was course, I had to watch one of
- 38:09Speaker 7: the greatest teams, and you know, the battles with Cleveland
- 38:13Speaker 7: and seeing them boys first hand. It was just I
- 38:15Speaker 7: was I was great seats and I had in that
- 38:17Speaker 7: I have to pay for him.
- 38:18Speaker 3: That's how I feel. I ain't gonna allowed to talking ship.
- 38:22Speaker 3: We cooked Brooklyn over there.
- 38:25Speaker 5: Yeah it's over I got too much. Boy, ain't gonna
- 38:28Speaker 5: do nothing with them. They like, if you don't take
- 38:30Speaker 5: your heads.
- 38:30Speaker 3: Home, it's over with. In Milwaukee.
- 38:34Speaker 5: Yeah, they couldn't wait for my ass to get out
- 38:37Speaker 5: of there. We want to tip shock like I did
- 38:39Speaker 5: some ship.
- 38:40Speaker 3: All this hardwork.
- 38:43Speaker 2: Was like that. What how good was some Clippers teams?
- 38:46Speaker 3: Man want to talk to you about I think that
- 38:49Speaker 3: we were all own worst enemies. Bro.
- 38:51Speaker 7: We were fifty five plus winscific Division champs, facts again
- 38:55Speaker 7: beating the Warriors before they really kind of found their
- 38:57Speaker 7: rhythm as a young team. Our superstars is but it heads,
- 39:02Speaker 7: you know, and Blake and CP had the best chemistry
- 39:05Speaker 7: in the world at times and then didn't see eye
- 39:07Speaker 7: to eye at times, and then at the same time
- 39:09Speaker 7: it's the emergency of DeAndre Jordan where he's starting to
- 39:11Speaker 7: become a you know, yeah, fringe All Star player, defensive
- 39:15Speaker 7: Player of the Year, Olympic player, so he's kind of
- 39:17Speaker 7: growing into his own and it was just I felt
- 39:20Speaker 7: like there was too many cooks in the kitchen. And
- 39:21Speaker 7: then Doc was supposed to be the guy that was
- 39:23Speaker 7: supposed to save everything, and then he brought his son over,
- 39:27Speaker 7: and it was just some weird energy there, you know,
- 39:31Speaker 7: where a lot of he paid his son. I'm not
- 39:32Speaker 7: even mad if I was in a position I paid
- 39:34Speaker 7: the fuck out of my son too, But understand at
- 39:36Speaker 7: the time what that did to people.
- 39:39Speaker 3: I mean, he was making more than me.
- 39:41Speaker 7: Jamal JJ, like guys that were putting in real minutes,
- 39:44Speaker 7: you know and playing in crunch time, and it kind of,
- 39:47Speaker 7: without knowing, kind of had people looking at him. Funny.
- 39:50Speaker 7: It wasn't even his fault. You know, obviously ship out.
- 39:51Speaker 7: If someone's gonna give me thirty five min I'm gonna
- 39:53Speaker 7: take that motherfucker, especially.
- 39:54Speaker 3: With my dad.
- 39:56Speaker 7: So but it just did Doc coming over, you know,
- 39:58Speaker 7: Doc want to say, Doc was the first coach of
- 40:00Speaker 7: ever traded for like we Clippers traded for Doc.
- 40:03Speaker 3: And great motivation guy, great to make you believe you.
- 40:07Speaker 7: Know, blue waters Purple like great speaker, but just there
- 40:11Speaker 7: was something missing there with him and in our in
- 40:14Speaker 7: game adjustments. And then when the sun came the energy
- 40:16Speaker 7: with that, like, guys weren't really off that. So there's
- 40:18Speaker 7: just too much bullshit, mental bullshit that we couldn't get
- 40:22Speaker 7: over the hurdle. But when we were clicking and playing,
- 40:24Speaker 7: there wasn't a better team in the NBA than us
- 40:26Speaker 7: for the hell super deep. I mean, you got think
- 40:29Speaker 7: we have you know, our CP JJ ME or Kron
- 40:36Speaker 7: Butler at the three, Blake and DJ. Then we had
- 40:39Speaker 7: Lamar Odom, we had Eric bledsoe b Man had you
- 40:45Speaker 7: had a lot of shit, Ronnie Urry off, Spencer Hall's
- 40:50Speaker 7: coming off of Fresh pay Day, he had game stretched
- 40:52Speaker 7: the floor like we just had a lot of big
- 40:54Speaker 7: Baby Davis.
- 40:55Speaker 6: We had a lot of hell in the same locker room.
- 40:58Speaker 3: Oh yeah, I have some sugaring.
- 41:00Speaker 6: I was supposed to wine.
- 41:06Speaker 7: That one of the coolest dudes I have to god
- 41:09Speaker 7: ever invented. Lamar is so cool.
- 41:11Speaker 5: Bro.
- 41:11Speaker 3: He was always just the one that was just so
- 41:14Speaker 3: with the flow.
- 41:15Speaker 7: Every city where there's a Limo downstairs going to the club,
- 41:17Speaker 7: whoever wanted to get in happy and yeah, just that dude.
- 41:21Speaker 7: Lamar was so cool, bro, so talented, a great super
- 41:25Speaker 7: talent his size and skill set. I played with l
- 41:29Speaker 7: O with the Lakers and with the Clippers. He was
- 41:31Speaker 7: a really good dude.
- 41:32Speaker 5: Man.
- 41:32Speaker 7: I'm glad that he's kind of getting back on the
- 41:34Speaker 7: feed and finding his way because he was a great dude.
- 41:37Speaker 3: Yeah, we gotta get the Foster episode just for.
- 41:41Speaker 2: He was talking about grills. Yeah, that's number one.
- 41:44Speaker 3: I got a lot to talk about. Was your favorite
- 41:47Speaker 3: player though, Llo was? It was cold bro was before
- 41:51Speaker 3: his time.
- 41:51Speaker 1: Yeah, Bro, I want to ask you how you feel
- 41:54Speaker 1: about this Clipper scene they got going into this year.
- 41:56Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying.
- 41:58Speaker 7: It's tough to say, man, because the West is so young.
- 42:01Speaker 7: I felt like last season we saw kind of a
- 42:03Speaker 7: passing of the torch, you know, and and guys that
- 42:06Speaker 7: I played with, you know, the Steps and the Kds
- 42:09Speaker 7: and the Brons, like it's it's coming to the end
- 42:11Speaker 7: of their run. And these new young boys are hungry
- 42:13Speaker 7: and skilled and can run all day in athletics. So
- 42:17Speaker 7: I mean, I just think the Clippers, you know, Tyler
- 42:19Speaker 7: is one of the best minds in the game. That's
- 42:21Speaker 7: why his availability is always a question. You know, if
- 42:23Speaker 7: he's out there and playing, they got a chance. But
- 42:26Speaker 7: you also got to think, okay, see he's still young.
- 42:28Speaker 7: And then boys just got paid. And I think Houston
- 42:30Speaker 7: had a big off season being able to get a
- 42:32Speaker 7: consistent score in KD never did well in gathering folks
- 42:37Speaker 7: up Dallas if healthy is going to be a motherfucking problem,
- 42:40Speaker 7: and they at the number one pick in Cooper Flags.
- 42:42Speaker 7: I just think the West is really deep. I think
- 42:45Speaker 7: the winner will come out. I don't know who's going
- 42:46Speaker 7: to be. I think the East is going to be
- 42:47Speaker 7: a little bit down this year. Obviously would take them
- 42:49Speaker 7: out and you know, some other injuries. I don't really
- 42:52Speaker 7: believe in the East as much.
- 42:53Speaker 2: But I don't know.
- 42:56Speaker 5: Who.
- 43:00Speaker 3: Look back wet, Yeah, we bet. I didn't expect to
- 43:04Speaker 3: hear that be talk to me back to playing.
- 43:07Speaker 7: Probably Church trade to me is one of the probably
- 43:09Speaker 7: the top two most underrated players in the game of
- 43:11Speaker 7: twenty five twenty five and he's a double double with
- 43:14Speaker 7: twenty five and ten.
- 43:15Speaker 3: Guy, he gets to respect that he deserves. He's playing
- 43:17Speaker 3: for a max. Some young boys. It's on a one
- 43:20Speaker 3: year deal. So you know you're trying to get paid
- 43:22Speaker 3: again from Boston. Yeah, okay, you gotta stay healthy though.
- 43:26Speaker 5: I mean, he gone contract. You're gonna he's gonna play
- 43:29Speaker 5: sixty plus games this year. Contract?
- 43:32Speaker 3: Yes, what man? No contract? You're everybody healthy.
- 43:34Speaker 7: Everyone everyone gets through them pains that will keep you
- 43:37Speaker 7: out if you're not on the contract.
- 43:39Speaker 5: Jalen Johnson, he's gonna be talent young Zachmen playing well
- 43:44Speaker 5: in euro Basket.
- 43:45Speaker 3: Yeah. So I think we got a right future, man.
- 43:47Speaker 3: I think it's our time.
- 43:48Speaker 2: One of the best developmental teams in the league.
- 43:51Speaker 3: Y'all trying to do what though, we're gonna make it
- 43:52Speaker 3: to the chip. We're gonna win to East.
- 43:54Speaker 2: No, if they make it to the finals tournament Hawks.
- 43:58Speaker 3: I was about to say, you to talk about the
- 43:59Speaker 3: turn minutes in Vegas and no, No, they'll.
- 44:01Speaker 5: Be back here in season. Make when they go to
- 44:04Speaker 5: the finals. Yoall we're gonna say, of course I am
- 44:07Speaker 5: in that one section.
- 44:10Speaker 2: I told you. Then Dominique Jersey is still wet.
- 44:22Speaker 3: Fs. He popped up next next thing, you know, his
- 44:24Speaker 3: nose started bleeding down.
- 44:25Speaker 2: The saying somewhere God, bro. He said, Damn, you didn't
- 44:29Speaker 2: you got bad love with him? What we all talk
- 44:32Speaker 2: he talked about, this is sweet.
- 44:33Speaker 3: There looking down.
- 44:36Speaker 2: My promise, bro, and nobody look super little BROI left
- 44:41Speaker 2: and half that's that Jeff t know what's so crazy?
- 44:44Speaker 2: I love telling the story. I said, Bro, they hate you.
- 44:49Speaker 2: They put him on the.
- 44:49Speaker 3: Jeff tis in the building.
- 44:51Speaker 2: Both was like, damn, I know you sitting this close
- 44:53Speaker 2: to me, all these people, these two dollars seats. Yeah,
- 45:00Speaker 2: I even know that read.
- 45:05Speaker 3: Chicken wings, beer, had everything.
- 45:09Speaker 2: I'm just saying, man, when you go to the games
- 45:11Speaker 2: on you still do? Man, where do you see?
- 45:13Speaker 3: Man? If I can't sit courtside or a real sweet
- 45:16Speaker 3: that's in the first left, I don't believe this.
- 45:21Speaker 2: That's a good man.
- 45:22Speaker 7: I'm gonna take it in and stay at the crick
- 45:24Speaker 7: and I like to smoke and move around and drink
- 45:26Speaker 7: a little bit and enjoy myself. But it's almost I mean,
- 45:29Speaker 7: we did it for a job, So going to games
- 45:31Speaker 7: now is not fun. It's not I'm not looking for
- 45:34Speaker 7: he said, Like again, I'd rather watch it, and if
- 45:36Speaker 7: the game is on some bullshit, I'll watch something else,
- 45:38Speaker 7: you know, So going to games I have to.
- 45:41Speaker 3: It's not even spoiled. It's just if I'm gonna go out.
- 45:43Speaker 7: If I'm not courtseided, I'll be in the sweet But
- 45:44Speaker 7: if not, most of the time, I'm just at the
- 45:45Speaker 7: crib for sure.
- 45:47Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 45:48Speaker 2: Man, back to that, I wanted to talk about this
- 45:50Speaker 2: Clippers team though, we kind of because that's that's bullshit.
- 45:53Speaker 2: Actually over there the Clippers scene, if they heard, can
- 45:58Speaker 2: they be okay see this in a series?
- 46:01Speaker 3: Yes? So who's there? Who's there?
- 46:03Speaker 2: Five?
- 46:03Speaker 1: So James Big, Zoo, Bradley Beal, I love Zoo Big.
- 46:08Speaker 3: That's right. Bill was a good pick up.
- 46:10Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 46:10Speaker 3: They got a lot to prove though too.
- 46:13Speaker 7: Yes, the fact you know a lot of people and
- 46:15Speaker 7: I've always been a fan of him, but that you know,
- 46:16Speaker 7: you're putting up empty numbers on the losing team.
- 46:18Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 46:18Speaker 7: And then it was a horrible move to go to
- 46:21Speaker 7: a team that three guys that all need the ball
- 46:22Speaker 7: in their hands in Phoenix. So I think he's on
- 46:24Speaker 7: the like I still got juice in his in his tank,
- 46:28Speaker 7: Kawhi's availability.
- 46:30Speaker 3: I love James. I think James has been able to
- 46:32Speaker 3: evolve and adapt his game.
- 46:34Speaker 7: He could be an eighteen and ten and six guys
- 46:36Speaker 7: still and be very effective Zubots is one of the
- 46:39Speaker 7: most underrated bigs in the game, and they got some
- 46:42Speaker 7: depth with some I think they got a really good team.
- 46:45Speaker 3: It just depends on their health. I think Kawhi is
- 46:46Speaker 3: the key.
- 46:46Speaker 7: If Kawhi can give you sixty five games, you got
- 46:49Speaker 7: a chance to be a top five team in the West.
- 46:51Speaker 5: You think can affect that locker room in the positive. Yeah,
- 46:54Speaker 5: I think, And I think too, And I mean there's
- 46:56Speaker 5: you know, I love CP. I'll go to Ward CP
- 46:59Speaker 5: every ingle day.
- 47:00Speaker 7: But I also think that he had to learn how
- 47:02Speaker 7: to communicate with this newer generation. I think that was
- 47:06Speaker 7: our biggest issue with the Clippers was we come from
- 47:09Speaker 7: an old school where they can cust you out and
- 47:11Speaker 7: you just got to make it work, you know. So
- 47:12Speaker 7: I was kind of the bridge at times when he
- 47:14Speaker 7: couldn't get through the Blake or DJ, like, Yo, this
- 47:16Speaker 7: is what he's trying to say, but he's not wrong.
- 47:18Speaker 3: He just don't like his delivery. This was telling you.
- 47:21Speaker 7: So I think that he's kind of learned from that
- 47:23Speaker 7: and understanding how to work and be a mentor. And
- 47:25Speaker 7: obviously CPS one of the greatest players to ever played
- 47:28Speaker 7: this game. So I definitely think that he'll be able
- 47:30Speaker 7: to give him solid minutes and also add to just
- 47:34Speaker 7: the IQ and then and and helping the young guys
- 47:37Speaker 7: through some shit.
- 47:38Speaker 3: Yeah, they counted Billy aspect.
- 47:40Speaker 1: I think for CP, theory is really gonna help that
- 47:41Speaker 1: team because you look at his always young, dumb person,
- 47:43Speaker 1: all the young talent, you look at SGA, you look
- 47:45Speaker 1: at Dennis, everybody he's been around.
- 47:46Speaker 3: He's only positive impact, especially for the guard position. Sing
- 47:49Speaker 3: for him to be what is that motherfucker sixty? He
- 47:51Speaker 3: played with eighty two games last year.
- 47:53Speaker 7: Come on, it's a game. So availability is big. You know,
- 47:56Speaker 7: he really takes care and and to me, just some
- 47:57Speaker 7: more of a person. Like my twins and his sons
- 48:00Speaker 7: are best friends. We lived five minutes away. It was
- 48:02Speaker 7: really big for him to be able to get back home.
- 48:04Speaker 7: This last handful of years. He's been bouncing outside of California,
- 48:07Speaker 7: and it's just you can't take the family every time
- 48:10Speaker 7: you move around towards the end of your career. So
- 48:11Speaker 7: I knew coming into the season when I've seen him
- 48:14Speaker 7: in the summertime, He's like, man, i gotta stay in Cali.
- 48:15Speaker 7: I'm like, we'll go back to the Clippers, go to
- 48:17Speaker 7: the Lakers, So I was glad that it was able
- 48:19Speaker 7: to and he's already met you know, said this is
- 48:21Speaker 7: last year. I'm so, I'm glad he gets to do
- 48:22Speaker 7: it with a team that you know he really put
- 48:24Speaker 7: some work in too.
- 48:26Speaker 1: That's a really underrated thing I would say about your athletes,
- 48:29Speaker 1: our lifestyles, like especially playing on a road, being away
- 48:31Speaker 1: from your film it that's hard mentally for a lot
- 48:33Speaker 1: of people, especially as you grow and your kids get older.
- 48:36Speaker 1: How did you manage that and how's it now? You
- 48:37Speaker 1: know what I'm saying, having a little bit more time
- 48:39Speaker 1: to be that's what you know.
- 48:39Speaker 3: That's what you know.
- 48:40Speaker 7: I mentioned earlier and I didn't tell the reason why,
- 48:42Speaker 7: but that's what you know. I retired my first year
- 48:44Speaker 7: into a three year deal, so you know, I played
- 48:46Speaker 7: fourteen years, got paid for sixteen years, but it was
- 48:48Speaker 7: because I wasn't getting a chance to see my twins
- 48:50Speaker 7: at the time, they were like seven years old. So
- 48:52Speaker 7: I wanted to retire. And and it's a great job
- 48:55Speaker 7: and it's perks and there's money, but you know, eight
- 48:57Speaker 7: months season, we're gone for four and a half of those.
- 48:59Speaker 7: I mean, once you start having a family and kids,
- 49:01Speaker 7: you're missing birthdays and school plays and games and shit
- 49:06Speaker 7: you'll never get back, you know. And that's why I
- 49:08Speaker 7: felt like, although I didn't get to contribute the way
- 49:11Speaker 7: I did, I was just like, damn, I got me
- 49:12Speaker 7: a ring. My investments are doing good, I got money
- 49:15Speaker 7: in the bank. I it's time to see what was next. Like,
- 49:17Speaker 7: although I didn't know what was next, but I knew
- 49:19Speaker 7: just being a dad was most important to me next.
- 49:21Speaker 7: And you know, I got just missed the taking kids
- 49:24Speaker 7: to school and coaching them and cooking for them and
- 49:27Speaker 7: just being there with them, because again, I was a
- 49:29Speaker 7: very present dad while I was playing, but my job
- 49:31Speaker 7: took me away a lot of time. So now you know,
- 49:33Speaker 7: my twins are sixteen, shout out the isa in car.
- 49:36Speaker 7: They just got their license to stay. They are so proud.
- 49:37Speaker 7: They all kind of things a little homies got their license.
- 49:40Speaker 7: But I got a six year old who looks like
- 49:41Speaker 7: he's ten and a one year old. So I get
- 49:44Speaker 7: to kind of really start all over and just be
- 49:46Speaker 7: there daily and just see the grind and see the growth.
- 49:49Speaker 7: So to me, it's the greatest job in the world.
- 49:51Speaker 3: I asked you this about the twins. Do they get
- 49:54Speaker 3: their own cars, yeah, or share car.
- 49:57Speaker 7: Sure, sure, and their mom is their mom is their
- 50:00Speaker 7: but she didn't want to pitch in and get a
- 50:01Speaker 7: car together.
- 50:02Speaker 3: So, uh, what's the point that.
- 50:05Speaker 7: So they got a car at their moms grabbing in
- 50:06Speaker 7: a car at my house so they could.
- 50:08Speaker 2: They said, it just sucks being a twin.
- 50:13Speaker 3: Though you're a twin.
- 50:14Speaker 2: Nah, that's a lot of niggas that look like me.
- 50:23Speaker 2: Like maybe I want to slide on some road. Got
- 50:26Speaker 2: something to do, like whip? Yeah, with the whip. It's
- 50:29Speaker 2: kind of it's kind of tough.
- 50:30Speaker 7: You got it over now to like you know what,
- 50:33Speaker 7: you know when we come up. I don't know about y'all,
- 50:35Speaker 7: but we couldn't wait, I mean forgot. I didn't have
- 50:36Speaker 7: a car. I had a bike with a license, Like
- 50:38Speaker 7: I just couldn't wait to get my life. But these
- 50:40Speaker 7: dudes didn't really It wasn't really because I just used
- 50:42Speaker 7: to being driven around or around like it wasn't really
- 50:45Speaker 7: pressed it, you know, and they're not really out there
- 50:47Speaker 7: in the streets got you know, God blessed for that,
- 50:48Speaker 7: but they're not. They weren't really pressed to get their license,
- 50:51Speaker 7: but they finally got it. But they love I mean,
- 50:54Speaker 7: unless you have twins. Like the dynamic having twins is incredible,
- 50:57Speaker 7: Like they're when I tell you, best friends. Like when
- 50:59Speaker 7: they were get it's sick, one would go to school
- 51:01Speaker 7: because the other one didn't get sick yet, but he
- 51:03Speaker 7: would be tripped. The one at home like I need
- 51:05Speaker 7: to call and check out my brother, or the one
- 51:06Speaker 7: at school would call home sometimes like hey, I was
- 51:09Speaker 7: so and so feeling. So that just the dynamic is
- 51:11Speaker 7: and it's dope to see. Like, so you have a
- 51:14Speaker 7: built in best friend every single day, your dog is
- 51:17Speaker 7: with you. You know, I kind of took that shit
- 51:19Speaker 7: for granted because they were so easy growing up. Now
- 51:21Speaker 7: that I got my six year old, I gotta do
- 51:23Speaker 7: everything with that motherfucker. I gotta play video games, swim,
- 51:26Speaker 7: play basketball, play soccer, play baseball. Well, I got the
- 51:29Speaker 7: one year old on my hip. I'm a single datafore
- 51:31Speaker 7: so it's just like I'm shaking and baking. But I'm like, god, damn,
- 51:34Speaker 7: I have to do none of this shit with the
- 51:35Speaker 7: twins they had each other, but I have with Ashton boy.
- 51:37Speaker 7: Motherfucker got me running with the baby on my hip.
- 51:40Speaker 7: So it's it's it's it's dope, but it's a lot Man.
- 51:43Speaker 2: How you like coaching in that AU crazy world?
- 51:46Speaker 7: Bro, I enjoy it because I'm teaching. I don't respect
- 51:51Speaker 7: the AU system. I think it's a money grab.
- 51:53Speaker 2: Now.
- 51:53Speaker 7: I just saw an article that their kids are playing
- 51:55Speaker 7: eighty two one hundred games in the year. It's fucking crazy.
- 51:58Speaker 7: Wos why these kids are breaking down? But just a
- 52:00Speaker 7: money graph for adults now, you know what I mean?
- 52:02Speaker 7: Everything is water down. When we came up. I don't
- 52:05Speaker 7: know when you guys started, but when I came into AAU, like,
- 52:07Speaker 7: there weren't age levels like when you played AAU, if
- 52:09Speaker 7: you're coming as a freshman, you played against the best
- 52:12Speaker 7: players in the country. There wasn't no fourteen, fifteen, sixteen
- 52:15Speaker 7: like when I was fourteen, I was playing against seventeen
- 52:17Speaker 7: eighteen year olds in AAU. So now there's just so
- 52:20Speaker 7: many levels and divisions and gold, bronze and silver like
- 52:23Speaker 7: it's not It takes away from the kind of the
- 52:26Speaker 7: cachet of being an AAU player. And then again, it's
- 52:28Speaker 7: not even about developing kids no more. It's about winning games,
- 52:31Speaker 7: which is fucking pointless. College coaches don't give a fuck
- 52:34Speaker 7: what kind of AU shit you. They want to know,
- 52:36Speaker 7: do you know how to play off the ball, and
- 52:38Speaker 7: I feel that's what our game lacks as kids understanding.
- 52:40Speaker 7: Kids are super skilled now, being able to do all
- 52:42Speaker 7: these moves and step backs and triple step backs and
- 52:45Speaker 7: the gather and all that shit, but when they don't
- 52:48Speaker 7: have the ball in the hand, they standing there like dummies.
- 52:50Speaker 7: You know, you don't have to cut flare screen forty
- 52:52Speaker 7: five cut. You know they don't know how to do
- 52:54Speaker 7: notnh that shit. So to answer your question, I enjoy
- 52:56Speaker 7: it because I'm teaching these kids how what they're going
- 52:59Speaker 7: to see yet. And I've had my kids since they
- 53:01Speaker 7: were eight, so what they're going to see in high school? Now,
- 53:03Speaker 7: all these kids are in high school and they're like, damn,
- 53:06Speaker 7: coach Man was seating that shit when we was in
- 53:08Speaker 7: fourth or fifth grade. And then I'm trying to prepare
- 53:10Speaker 7: them now what they're going to see in college and
- 53:11Speaker 7: hopefully what they're gonna see in the league. So it's
- 53:13Speaker 7: really concepts and understanding spacing and how to play off
- 53:15Speaker 7: the ball and how to be on a string on
- 53:17Speaker 7: defense and rotating and all that kind of shit. So
- 53:19Speaker 7: I love it because I'm teaching. I just wish the
- 53:21Speaker 7: rest of the game would be taught.
- 53:24Speaker 1: And you already talk about that, Jeff, as a hig
- 53:26Speaker 1: school coach. You got a real players back in even
- 53:28Speaker 1: though they haven't great. You got a really back in
- 53:30Speaker 1: for a high school basketball Bring them back to reality.
- 53:32Speaker 3: Man. Yeah, nobody's gonna sit there and let you drivele
- 53:34Speaker 3: the ball twenty times. Nobody, I mean.
- 53:37Speaker 7: And what I don't like is these kids don't watch
- 53:38Speaker 7: basketball at highlights or the next morning, and I feel
- 53:42Speaker 7: like you missed so much by not seeing what's out there.
- 53:45Speaker 7: Like if these kids want to cross over eight times
- 53:47Speaker 7: and step back and still have the ball, Like, show
- 53:49Speaker 7: me one person that does that in the league. There
- 53:52Speaker 7: might be three or four guys that can do that
- 53:54Speaker 7: that are allowed to do that. But for the most
- 53:56Speaker 7: part that you know, like coach Pop said, a second
- 53:58Speaker 7: and a half, if you can't make a decison, then
- 54:00Speaker 7: second a half, get the fuck off the ball. Like
- 54:01Speaker 7: these kids wouldn't know what to do if they had
- 54:04Speaker 7: a second and a half to touch the ball. So
- 54:05Speaker 7: it's it, And it's just kind of being able to
- 54:07Speaker 7: teach these kids and make them understand man that you know,
- 54:10Speaker 7: it's a delusional space. Social Media's delusional with these mixtapes
- 54:13Speaker 7: and highlight tapes and all this shit.
- 54:15Speaker 3: That you know. And then what do I mean your thoughts?
- 54:17Speaker 3: You don't coach at AU, but you see it. I
- 54:18Speaker 3: mean these holdbacks.
- 54:20Speaker 7: I mean when we were coming up, Like I remember
- 54:22Speaker 7: I was in eighth grade walking across the street to
- 54:24Speaker 7: play with the varsity team. Yeah, there's kids we were
- 54:26Speaker 7: playing against seventeen year old freshmen. Like I was going
- 54:28Speaker 7: to UCLA at seventeen, and you're a freshman in high school.
- 54:31Speaker 3: Bro, we'll be doing I don't believe in that. Like
- 54:34Speaker 3: a lot of our guys are younger. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 54:37Speaker 3: Some of the guys on our high school team they
- 54:40Speaker 3: fifteen on their junior year.
- 54:41Speaker 7: Yeah, cause it's going to come a time where you
- 54:44Speaker 7: can't run from the smoke. I feel like the adversary
- 54:46Speaker 7: is what makes you better. Like all these kids, even
- 54:48Speaker 7: if you take it to the college, it's like jumping
- 54:50Speaker 7: in the portal. Shit, don't go Ou'm jumping in the portal.
- 54:52Speaker 7: Like what happens when you can't run? What happens when
- 54:54Speaker 7: you have to sit there and just just just be
- 54:56Speaker 7: a man? This damn, I'm not going to play that
- 54:58Speaker 7: much this season.
- 54:58Speaker 3: What am I?
- 54:58Speaker 7: How am I going to make my game. What am
- 55:00Speaker 7: I going to learn? You don't get no, you don't
- 55:02Speaker 7: get no adversity and will power and mental strength when
- 55:05Speaker 7: you're just running from the smoke the whole time.
- 55:08Speaker 3: That's a fact.
- 55:09Speaker 2: Yea, since we talked about that though, like the nil,
- 55:11Speaker 2: do you think that would have kept you playing football?
- 55:14Speaker 2: They came with that chicken?
- 55:15Speaker 7: Yeah, I probably would have definitely played, you know, to
- 55:19Speaker 7: get two bags, you know, play football and get fucked
- 55:22Speaker 7: up for no reason, you know what, hopes of going
- 55:24Speaker 7: to the NFL. But you're trying to tell me I
- 55:26Speaker 7: could do because you couldn't tell me any. I was
- 55:28Speaker 7: in LA too, bro So I remember I used to
- 55:29Speaker 7: get my little pale grant twenty five hundred dollars. You
- 55:31Speaker 7: couldn't tell me nothing. That's what's been going in like
- 55:33Speaker 7: twelve hours. But when I had that little twenty five hundred,
- 55:37Speaker 7: like you couldn't. I couldn't imagine having a half a
- 55:38Speaker 7: million or a million dollars in Westlewood in LA and
- 55:41Speaker 7: no parents at tell you know, don't like But to me, also,
- 55:46Speaker 7: does that take away from the grind? Take your foot
- 55:48Speaker 7: off the gas, because these kids are getting everything we
- 55:50Speaker 7: had to bust our ass to get to the league
- 55:52Speaker 7: for like, you couldn't even get it was illegal to
- 55:53Speaker 7: get it in college, so we had to brian all
- 55:55Speaker 7: the way to get to the league, to get that
- 55:56Speaker 7: kind of money. So if you're getting it now in
- 55:58Speaker 7: high school, the elites are getting into high school, everybody's
- 56:00Speaker 7: getting a colleague. I think it's only natural to take
- 56:02Speaker 7: your foot off the gas.
- 56:03Speaker 3: I think so too.
- 56:04Speaker 5: That's why I guess I'm not against prep schools. But
- 56:07Speaker 5: that's my problem with prep schools, because you're just not
- 56:09Speaker 5: that hungry. No more like when you're getting money, we
- 56:12Speaker 5: all know that, Like you got your pilgrim. Even when
- 56:14Speaker 5: I got my pilgrim, you couldn't tell me, Well, if
- 56:17Speaker 5: you getting a million dollars, I don't know who I
- 56:20Speaker 5: would have been.
- 56:21Speaker 3: I would have made it.
- 56:22Speaker 2: Best player in the country. He'd at least got t
- 56:26Speaker 2: yeah number yeah, yeah.
- 56:29Speaker 7: No different time. Man, It's beautiful. I mean, that's why
- 56:32Speaker 7: I got four sons. A couple of motherfucker's gonna hit
- 56:33Speaker 7: this lottery.
- 56:35Speaker 3: I tell you what, what is like? What is it
- 56:38Speaker 3: like coaching your kids? Though?
- 56:39Speaker 1: Like is it tough?
- 56:41Speaker 3: No?
- 56:41Speaker 7: Because I don't treat them like my I feel like
- 56:43Speaker 7: I do my kids a disservice if I play daddy ball,
- 56:45Speaker 7: because I'm not always going to be their coach. So
- 56:47Speaker 7: if I'm doing if I'm running extra plays or starting
- 56:49Speaker 7: them or giving them all these men like it's not realistic,
- 56:51Speaker 7: like they're like everybody else, like the best players that like,
- 56:54Speaker 7: whoever has the best rhythm at the time is going
- 56:55Speaker 7: to finish the game. And I would try to tell
- 56:57Speaker 7: kids too, and Jeff, you know, obviously start is cool.
- 56:59Speaker 7: I'm a starter, but the coach who finishes the game
- 57:02Speaker 7: is who the trust, coach trust the most. That's who's
- 57:04Speaker 7: playing the best. That's who I can trust. And you
- 57:06Speaker 7: always want to be a player where when I put
- 57:07Speaker 7: you in the game, I know what I'm gonna get
- 57:09Speaker 7: from you.
- 57:09Speaker 3: You can't be a wild card.
- 57:10Speaker 7: So coaching my kids, it's sometimes it's tough love and
- 57:14Speaker 7: sometimes I'm a little tougher on them from a standpoint
- 57:16Speaker 7: if I just know that being a former NBA son son,
- 57:20Speaker 7: you're gonna get motherfucker that don't like you just for
- 57:22Speaker 7: that fact. So you know, there was a time where
- 57:24Speaker 7: one twins started one, didn't you know, there's time where
- 57:26Speaker 7: they both started. There's both time when they're both playing
- 57:28Speaker 7: like shits. They sit right next to me, you know
- 57:30Speaker 7: what I mean. So to me, I can't daddy them
- 57:33Speaker 7: because I'm not always going to be there to daddy
- 57:35Speaker 7: and from a coaching standpoint, I feel like I'll I'll
- 57:37Speaker 7: hinder their growth, so they know everything with me is
- 57:40Speaker 7: is earned, nothing is given.
- 57:42Speaker 5: I know that's tough though, having that bullet on your
- 57:44Speaker 5: that target on your back, because my guys was gunning
- 57:47Speaker 5: for all. After they played them in the Ubu, they
- 57:50Speaker 5: called me a sat facetimmy coach. We just beat Matt
- 57:53Speaker 5: Bournes and yay to call them. I'm like, you know,
- 58:00Speaker 5: you know, y'all, y'all had a really I wasn't surprised
- 58:02Speaker 5: that you guys. You guys had a really good We
- 58:04Speaker 5: just we We started with the thing in Cali is
- 58:06Speaker 5: there's no bigs. We got so many guards, so we're
- 58:09Speaker 5: a small art. Motherfucking five man six four, you know
- 58:12Speaker 5: what I mean. So it's just like we're super skilled.
- 58:14Speaker 5: If we're not shooting the ball, we played like the Warriors.
- 58:15Speaker 5: If we're not shooting the ball, well we're in trouble.
- 58:17Speaker 5: And we started uh the fourth session before piecing with
- 58:21Speaker 5: thirteen guys, we finished our last game with six, like
- 58:23Speaker 5: we got one of the twins fractures and like our
- 58:25Speaker 5: whole team was hurt.
- 58:26Speaker 7: But when we played, y'all was good. Man, it was
- 58:28Speaker 7: a good game until the end. You guys pulled away
- 58:30Speaker 7: and I think one by like six or seven. Uh,
- 58:32Speaker 7: but we're in that bitch the entire time. But you
- 58:34Speaker 7: guys that but you guys had size and motherfuckers said
- 58:37Speaker 7: was dunking and wiping off the glass and we just
- 58:39Speaker 7: didn't have none of that.
- 58:40Speaker 3: So, like I said, we're gonna make some moves in
- 58:47Speaker 3: the portal.
- 58:48Speaker 7: I'm already meeting with dad, like this next year their
- 58:52Speaker 7: last year and the you you know, it was my
- 58:54Speaker 7: last year coaching for a little while until my six
- 58:55Speaker 7: year old gets right. So we're gonna go all out.
- 58:57Speaker 7: But I love it, man, it's and it's dope too.
- 58:59Speaker 7: And Jeff, you know, if you ever pulled up to
- 59:01Speaker 7: the turn like it's a reunion all that. There used
- 59:03Speaker 7: to be a stigma of black dad, especially the NBA
- 59:05Speaker 7: players not being in their kids lives. But with this
- 59:07Speaker 7: generation of the dudes that I play with and right
- 59:10Speaker 7: behind us, like there's so many involved ads now whether
- 59:13Speaker 7: they're coaching, supporting, running programs, but just being present. You'll
- 59:18Speaker 7: see twenty five thirty former players at any given tournament
- 59:21Speaker 7: and this joke. After we're done playing, we go back
- 59:24Speaker 7: and drink some smoke, some chop it up, and just
- 59:26Speaker 7: kick it. So it's almost like a reunion for us
- 59:27Speaker 7: every time we travel out of state to these tournaments.
- 59:30Speaker 2: Dope is dope.
- 59:32Speaker 1: You said something really interesting about the highlight factor, and
- 59:34Speaker 1: I see Adam Silver said this recently. He was just
- 59:36Speaker 1: like basically the accessibility some of these games. They was like,
- 59:38Speaker 1: you know, with all these networks and all things spread out,
- 59:41Speaker 1: how can kids or people even support their team.
- 59:42Speaker 3: He's like, you know what, we're light? How light that work?
- 59:46Speaker 3: So if you can't watch the game, it's all right.
- 59:48Speaker 1: He was a problem to be better, And now you're
- 59:50Speaker 1: telling these kids catch it on Twitter, Like where's the
- 59:53Speaker 1: balance in that? For like the fan base, there's not.
- 59:55Speaker 1: It's all the money grab.
- 59:57Speaker 7: You know that the game, the games is glow mobile
- 1:00:00Speaker 7: as it's ever been, but because there's just new ways
- 1:00:03Speaker 7: to consume it, you know what I mean? Like as
- 1:00:05Speaker 7: far as it would be interesting to see like how
- 1:00:07Speaker 7: many people if they did a study actually can even
- 1:00:09Speaker 7: watch a half of game. You know, a lot of
- 1:00:11Speaker 7: people don't just sit there and watch games one because
- 1:00:13Speaker 7: there's just so much other shit going on other games.
- 1:00:17Speaker 7: But it's just games are long, and the season is long,
- 1:00:19Speaker 7: you know what I mean. So you got to be
- 1:00:20Speaker 7: a real fan to sit there and watch your team,
- 1:00:22Speaker 7: and kids these days don't have the attention span at all.
- 1:00:25Speaker 7: I have to make the one thing during the playoffs,
- 1:00:28Speaker 7: my twins, sit your motherfucking ass down and we're going watch,
- 1:00:30Speaker 7: and they'll sit and watch the games. I have to
- 1:00:32Speaker 7: like tell them, come come watch the games, and then
- 1:00:34Speaker 7: they'll be glad they did it. But if I don't
- 1:00:36Speaker 7: tell them, they'll be playing video games or out shooting
- 1:00:38Speaker 7: or doing whatever else. Dad will catch that ship tomorrow.
- 1:00:40Speaker 7: I'm like, what do you mean tomorrow? Yeah, we can
- 1:00:41Speaker 7: watch the highlights. I'm like, what the fuck about the
- 1:00:43Speaker 7: rest of the game. The highlights of two minutes? The
- 1:00:45Speaker 7: game is forty eight?
- 1:00:46Speaker 3: What do you mean now? We don't roblocks?
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: Dad?
- 1:00:48Speaker 3: And what's happening tomorrow? Now theyre on two K with
- 1:00:51Speaker 3: Jeff and no draws.
- 1:00:53Speaker 7: Did you see how fast our social team put that up?
- 1:00:58Speaker 7: I wanted to you, I said, said, and that ship
- 1:01:03Speaker 7: was on social media like eight minutes.
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: I was getting.
- 1:01:08Speaker 2: It was getting I was on Twitter the smoke Best Home.
- 1:01:15Speaker 3: We just walked off the stage like this ship never go.
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: Over. I said, this is nasty. The whole drugs that's
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: out of pocket. Get to take team.
- 1:01:31Speaker 2: Uniform.
- 1:01:32Speaker 3: That's a nasty uniform.
- 1:01:34Speaker 7: Like I said, I'm glad we we kind of just
- 1:01:36Speaker 7: scratched the surface. But we definitely want to have you
- 1:01:37Speaker 7: guys come out to l a our studio, but definitely
- 1:01:40Speaker 7: sit down and and and and and do a real
- 1:01:43Speaker 7: show with you guys. I don't watch a ton of podcasts,
- 1:01:46Speaker 7: but I do like just your your guys' energy is
- 1:01:48Speaker 7: authentic and you can feel it.
- 1:01:49Speaker 3: And you guys can say ship to each other.
- 1:01:51Speaker 7: The other motherfuckers saying with me and jack like I
- 1:01:53Speaker 7: could talk ship to Jackie to me, the other mother
- 1:01:54Speaker 7: fuckers can't say. You guys have that chemistry where you
- 1:01:57Speaker 7: could talk ship about each other with each other and you.
- 1:01:59Speaker 5: Talk me bad, bro, This is how we met. That's
- 1:02:05Speaker 5: how we met, bro. He told me, No, that's my
- 1:02:08Speaker 5: brother shoving Mack. He told me shoving back is better
- 1:02:10Speaker 5: than me to my face, that's not that's.
- 1:02:12Speaker 2: Not how we got got that's how we met.
- 1:02:15Speaker 3: So here.
- 1:02:17Speaker 2: I don't know. He's a stop fucking line.
- 1:02:22Speaker 3: Listen, let me get another shot game I had.
- 1:02:29Speaker 2: I had a challenge, one the only ones in the
- 1:02:30Speaker 2: city with that week. It's back twenty ten. So I
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: pulled up this ship music Monday. You know I had
- 1:02:42Speaker 2: a shorty driving my ship.
- 1:02:43Speaker 3: Yes, crib Yeah. We stayed with THEOD the NBA doing
- 1:02:48Speaker 3: that ship.
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: You.
- 1:02:49Speaker 2: I don't know he was out of pocket.
- 1:02:51Speaker 3: You should have been shot.
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: I pulled up.
- 1:02:55Speaker 2: He was just talking about my car because I guess
- 1:02:57Speaker 2: I didn't have a super up one. I had a
- 1:02:59Speaker 2: basically listen.
- 1:03:00Speaker 3: Man, yeah, I mean he put he pulled up next
- 1:03:02Speaker 3: to me in a basic challenge.
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: Nah.
- 1:03:05Speaker 2: We weren't cool like that.
- 1:03:09Speaker 6: Now, you know what I mean.
- 1:03:10Speaker 2: I had Pemps blue pulled up, had a little heavy
- 1:03:16Speaker 2: one in the past or something.
- 1:03:18Speaker 3: Like a little thing.
- 1:03:20Speaker 2: At the time, just riding.
- 1:03:29Speaker 3: That's my I like think one time that.
- 1:03:33Speaker 2: She was she was a lot of hell.
- 1:03:40Speaker 5: Okay, yeah, I had the hell care you had a
- 1:03:42Speaker 5: basic and you pulled up. I was like this, nigga,
- 1:03:44Speaker 5: does he got up you open the door?
- 1:03:47Speaker 3: What up? No, nigga, it's a difference put that baby ship.
- 1:03:52Speaker 2: That night we started talking, then shoving. Maga Sture came
- 1:03:55Speaker 2: along and then.
- 1:03:58Speaker 3: He was like, man, my nigga should sure assiga what?
- 1:04:01Speaker 5: And we had a program game and Nigga, I'm locked
- 1:04:04Speaker 5: out shelving crazy. I'm going he looking over here, Shoven
- 1:04:09Speaker 5: don't know right. So every time I score on showing,
- 1:04:11Speaker 5: I'm pointing at this niggag he laughing. Sheving like, what's up?
- 1:04:16Speaker 3: Man? Nigga you said? Oh said sad, Nigga.
- 1:04:23Speaker 5: Ain't ship nigga shoving like what? And then she became
- 1:04:28Speaker 5: my guy. He came on the Hawks and we became
- 1:04:30Speaker 5: best friend for sure.
- 1:04:31Speaker 3: For sure.
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: Listen, man, we gotta make it out there man, all
