- 0:00Speaker 1: The Driver's Show, Whole marriage and Gordy Waters.
- 0:11Speaker 2: Welcome to the Driver's Show.
- 0:13Speaker 1: We got rid of Paulie.
- 0:14Speaker 2: How fucking good is it?
- 0:15Speaker 1: Do we swear in this? I can't remember?
- 0:17Speaker 2: Yeah? Absolutely, but you're coming in a bit hot. I'm deaf.
- 0:20Speaker 2: Let's just keep that in mind. You put your headphones on.
- 0:23Speaker 2: Start to be a professional about this.
- 0:26Speaker 1: Mate.
- 0:26Speaker 2: This is your hello. Check check one, check one too
- 0:30Speaker 2: on the Driver Show. We're not doing a second take.
- 0:33Speaker 2: That's it. And you taught me one take one.
- 0:36Speaker 1: I did say that to you.
- 0:37Speaker 2: You did tell me. How are you?
- 0:38Speaker 1: I'm just so excited that Paul's not here.
- 0:40Speaker 2: I'm excited that you're here. You're looking great.
- 0:42Speaker 1: Thanks mate, and thank you to ozam Pick.
- 0:45Speaker 2: I think they're great main sponsor. Trevor's are like a
- 0:49Speaker 2: real Hollywood guy.
- 0:50Speaker 1: Now I've had my teeth done.
- 0:52Speaker 2: Yeah, you've got You've got ozam Pick like I've literally
- 0:56Speaker 2: saw you put a zampg needle between two slices of
- 1:00Speaker 2: free bread and eat it like a sandwich.
- 1:02Speaker 1: I know that's not true. I would never have card
- 1:03Speaker 1: pre bread. Oh yeah, okay, I'm full tip top one
- 1:08Speaker 1: son blessed always wonder what whatever it is?
- 1:11Speaker 2: The good stuff, and you fired your personal trainer, and
- 1:15Speaker 2: you know you've got a real Hollywood.
- 1:16Speaker 1: It's just getting aggressive, to be honest, I.
- 1:18Speaker 2: Find it weird that personal trainers like fucking give me
- 1:20Speaker 2: twenty setups. I'm like, mate, I'm paying you three hundred bucks.
- 1:23Speaker 2: You fucking them.
- 1:25Speaker 1: You'll be surprised to know. I've never had a personal trainer.
- 1:27Speaker 1: I've also never been to a gym.
- 1:28Speaker 2: That does surprise me big time. Tell me about what's
- 1:32Speaker 2: going on before we talk like car rubbish. Tell me
- 1:35Speaker 2: what's going on in the wonderful world of television and tech.
- 1:39Speaker 1: Yeah, it's pretty it's a light period right now. We
- 1:41Speaker 1: go through these phases, so the first half of the years,
- 1:43Speaker 1: you know, very busy. I've been to a US seven
- 1:46Speaker 1: times this year and only one of them was a
- 1:47Speaker 1: family holiday, so it's been a super busy start of
- 1:50Speaker 1: the year. But it's kind of a lull right now.
- 1:51Speaker 1: We've had all the big, big announcements before the second wave,
- 1:54Speaker 1: which is Apple in September, so we're a month away
- 1:57Speaker 1: from the next iPhone. There's a trade show in Europe
- 2:01Speaker 1: I've got to go to at the end of the month.
- 2:02Speaker 1: But yeah, it's pretty light. Time.
- 2:03Speaker 2: It's good.
- 2:04Speaker 1: Yeah, to turn through basic reviews looking at new phones,
- 2:06Speaker 1: the Samsung folding phones. I've got the Motorola folding phone.
- 2:09Speaker 2: Can I hold that?
- 2:10Speaker 1: That's the Motorola rasor sixty.
- 2:12Speaker 2: Yeah, that's man.
- 2:14Speaker 1: I just think the folding phone. That's the form factor
- 2:17Speaker 1: I love because it's a normal smartphone when it's open,
- 2:20Speaker 1: so you use it, it's like a normal phone. And
- 2:22Speaker 1: then when you shut it and you put it in
- 2:24Speaker 1: your pocket, it's just something that doesn't it's not obtrusive,
- 2:29Speaker 1: it's not overwhelming in your pocket.
- 2:32Speaker 2: I reckon, I'd fucking lose this in two days. Do
- 2:34Speaker 2: you know what they're done with this screen? That little crease,
- 2:38Speaker 2: the fold the crease. It's gotten better. I mean it's
- 2:41Speaker 2: not perfect.
- 2:41Speaker 1: You don't notice it. You only notice it when you're
- 2:44Speaker 1: analyzing like this, going can you see it?
- 2:46Speaker 2: And is it there?
- 2:47Speaker 1: When you're using it day to day, you don't even
- 2:49Speaker 1: notice that it exists.
- 2:50Speaker 2: Yeah, honestly, she is little get around on it.
- 2:54Speaker 1: They're a good form factor. So you know, flip phones
- 2:56Speaker 1: have been a big thing because Samsung came out with
- 2:58Speaker 1: one that was it's four point five millimeters thick when open. Now,
- 3:02Speaker 1: the USB seaport is three point six millimeters. Wow, So
- 3:06Speaker 1: there's not much room to make a thinner phone. No,
- 3:09Speaker 1: And so next month when the iPhone comes out, there
- 3:11Speaker 1: will be a thin version of that, the iPhone seventeen.
- 3:14Speaker 2: Air well even that's on ozm pic.
- 3:16Speaker 1: Yes, I'm calling it the ozempic year for phones. Yeah,
- 3:19Speaker 1: they're all getting all getting thin.
- 3:21Speaker 2: You know. Google puts out a bloody good phone they do.
- 3:24Speaker 2: Before I moved over to Apple, I was on Google
- 3:26Speaker 2: for Yanks and they're a gray phone.
- 3:30Speaker 1: Look, I don't know when this is coming out, so
- 3:32Speaker 1: we'll save the embargos for the time. But there's a
- 3:34Speaker 1: new one coming out and that'll that'll do very well.
- 3:37Speaker 1: So the next pixel they make, they're a very good phone.
- 3:40Speaker 1: But in Australia it's very hard to compete with Apple
- 3:43Speaker 1: on simpsung at the high price level. So over a
- 3:45Speaker 1: thousand bucks people are walking into a Telstra store or
- 3:48Speaker 1: a JB's and they're just buying the Samsung or the
- 3:51Speaker 1: Apple under one thousand dollars, far more competitive. Like a
- 3:55Speaker 1: stupid fact that's stuck in my brain is fifty four
- 3:57Speaker 1: percent of all smartphones sold in Australia are under seven
- 4:00Speaker 1: hundred dollars.
- 4:01Speaker 2: Wow.
- 4:02Speaker 1: Fit more than half the phone sold every year in
- 4:05Speaker 1: Australia are under seven hundred dollars, which means they're not
- 4:07Speaker 1: iPhones and they're not the top Samsung phones. And then
- 4:11Speaker 1: Google come out with a nine hundred or a twelve
- 4:13Speaker 1: hundred dollars phone, they're competing with Apple and Samsung. If
- 4:16Speaker 1: they come out with a six hundred dollar phone, ye, man, that'd.
- 4:19Speaker 2: Be they're coming right into the middle of the market
- 4:21Speaker 2: there though, which is kind of an uncomfortable one.
- 4:23Speaker 1: But I don't think it's a wise move. Whereas this Motorola,
- 4:26Speaker 1: for example, it's twelve hundred bucks and Samsung's version of.
- 4:29Speaker 2: This, so that would compete with Samsung and Google.
- 4:32Speaker 1: Yes, but this in the folding space at twelve hundred dollars,
- 4:35Speaker 1: this is six five hundred dollars cheaper than what Samsung does,
- 4:39Speaker 1: so it is competitive, but Google don't play the price game.
- 4:43Speaker 1: What do I think that's I think that's dangerous.
- 4:45Speaker 2: What do you think we're going to say with the
- 4:47Speaker 2: I know, with Apple Glass and all that stuff coming out,
- 4:49Speaker 2: that's looking pretty nice that little software, but the AI
- 4:52Speaker 2: like Apple are really trying to get AI by the
- 4:55Speaker 2: balls because I reckon they've dropped the ball.
- 4:57Speaker 1: Yeah, they dropped the ball pretty bad because the announce
- 5:00Speaker 1: a bunch of stuff eighteen months ago, fifteen months ago
- 5:02Speaker 1: that they didn't make it. It hasn't been released yet. I
- 5:05Speaker 1: would argue, though, of most of the AI stuff that
- 5:08Speaker 1: I see in phones like Samsung and stuff, I don't
- 5:10Speaker 1: think most people are using it. I think it's all
- 5:13Speaker 1: very exciting. I think it's very amazing, but I think
- 5:15Speaker 1: people aren't using it.
- 5:16Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm curious to know what the hell like AI
- 5:19Speaker 2: is doing in phones.
- 5:20Speaker 1: Well, so with an iPhone, I actually think in the
- 5:24Speaker 1: six months that I was using an iPhone at the
- 5:25Speaker 1: start of this year with Apple Intelligence is what they
- 5:28Speaker 1: call it, I think I used more AI than I
- 5:30Speaker 1: did on any Android phone because it's little things like
- 5:33Speaker 1: notification summaries one of my favorite things. They copped a
- 5:36Speaker 1: bit of flat because, like you get summaries from news
- 5:39Speaker 1: organizations and it would summarize the news, and that was
- 5:41Speaker 1: a bit dangerous, Like combining three news items and trying
- 5:44Speaker 1: to dop point them.
- 5:45Speaker 2: Wasn't a bit dodgy? Were they factual or were they
- 5:47Speaker 2: kind of well.
- 5:47Speaker 1: That was the thing. There was a few fuck ups
- 5:49Speaker 1: right in what way, Like they would just say it'd
- 5:52Speaker 1: take four messages someone died in one, someone had got
- 5:55Speaker 1: married to another, and I might say that the person
- 5:56Speaker 1: got married diet. So pretty major mistakes, right. So now
- 6:01Speaker 1: there's this pop up message that says, you know, if
- 6:03Speaker 1: you do choose to notice to summarize news events, just
- 6:06Speaker 1: be aware it might change the context. But when you
- 6:09Speaker 1: receive five messages from a group chat and it just
- 6:13Speaker 1: goes Paul said this, Gord, he said that, and they're
- 6:17Speaker 1: waiting for your reply. At a glance, you can see
- 6:20Speaker 1: I better get into that. If someone sends you a
- 6:23Speaker 1: long text message on the cover of your screen and
- 6:27Speaker 1: on the home screen you can just see a summary
- 6:29Speaker 1: that says, you know, this has happened, and you're like,
- 6:31Speaker 1: I better read that. Now I better read the whole thing. Honestly,
- 6:33Speaker 1: that stuff is pretty cool. It's pretty useful.
- 6:36Speaker 2: It feels like a pain in the ass.
- 6:38Speaker 1: You know.
- 6:38Speaker 2: The thing I love about the metaglasses is meta will
- 6:42Speaker 2: just say, hey, Trevor Long sent you a long message. True,
- 6:47Speaker 2: you know what I mean? Made those glasses.
- 6:48Speaker 1: So I went on. We went to the States for
- 6:51Speaker 1: two and a half weeks with the family and I
- 6:53Speaker 1: kind of went, I'm not gonna for two reasons. One,
- 6:55Speaker 1: just stay attached to the family. I'm not going to
- 6:57Speaker 1: post on social media all the time. I'm going to
- 6:59Speaker 1: try and be a little bit phoneless. And I took
- 7:01Speaker 1: a film camera, like an old school wind up film camera,
- 7:04Speaker 1: and so I didn't post on social media for two
- 7:06Speaker 1: weeks except for from those glasses. So I'd be at
- 7:09Speaker 1: Dodger Stadium or Disneyland and just once a day or
- 7:12Speaker 1: a couple of times, I'd be like, hey, Meta, take
- 7:14Speaker 1: a photo and post on Instagram. Boom, it's on my stories,
- 7:17Speaker 1: to the point where I have to say to the kids,
- 7:18Speaker 1: can someone check that? See what it looked like? Because
- 7:21Speaker 1: I wasn't looking at it.
- 7:22Speaker 2: Because you actually, like you just controlled the whole thing.
- 7:24Speaker 2: I didn't know you could do.
- 7:25Speaker 1: If your if your Instagram account is connected to your metaglasses, yeah,
- 7:29Speaker 1: you can just look at something and say, hey, Meta,
- 7:30Speaker 1: take a photo and share on Instagram.
- 7:32Speaker 2: Oh my god, let me see if it works.
- 7:33Speaker 1: Hang on, and it will post it immediately to your
- 7:36Speaker 1: Instagram story, will ask you are you sure you want
- 7:38Speaker 1: to share? You'll hear the camera click, and then it'll
- 7:41Speaker 1: tell you that.
- 7:41Speaker 2: All right, hang on, here we go. Oh I think
- 7:44Speaker 2: madam must think you're me. Hang on, let me take
- 7:47Speaker 2: one quick video.
- 7:47Speaker 1: Sore, it works. This is great podcasting content.
- 7:51Speaker 2: Then this is a first hand look of what it's
- 7:55Speaker 2: like to work with a farm animal.
- 8:00Speaker 1: Okay, all right, Okay, so they were because I can
- 8:01Speaker 1: see the white flashing lights. So this time, just try
- 8:03Speaker 1: and talk to them.
- 8:04Speaker 2: Hey, meta, take a photo and post it to my
- 8:08Speaker 2: Instagram Instagram story.
- 8:14Speaker 1: No, because I was rolling my eyes.
- 8:16Speaker 2: Yes, yeah, sharing photo?
- 8:20Speaker 1: Oh no, continue, Oh so you haven't done it before,
- 8:24Speaker 1: so it needs to Oh I've got to do it again.
- 8:28Speaker 1: I might have needed to set something up.
- 8:30Speaker 2: Oh fuck that.
- 8:32Speaker 1: But it's a very cool feature, right yeah. And it
- 8:34Speaker 1: created this kind of in the moment thing where I'm
- 8:36Speaker 1: just literally just sharing my view of something. And it
- 8:39Speaker 1: was the same with a film camera. It take you know,
- 8:41Speaker 1: thirty five photos, and you're not taking six photos of
- 8:44Speaker 1: the same thing, because you know, you take six fither
- 8:46Speaker 1: that didn't love that one, didn't love that one, didn't
- 8:48Speaker 1: love that one. Whereas you just go, here's a photo
- 8:49Speaker 1: and in three weeks I might find out whether it
- 8:51Speaker 1: was a good photo. That's a pretty cool thing to do.
- 8:53Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, that is wild. I like that. You know,
- 8:57Speaker 2: we've seen the absolute debarcle with jagg you are with
- 9:00Speaker 2: what they're putting out, and by the way, we've seen
- 9:02Speaker 2: physical cars now, right, so that'll be kind of interesting.
- 9:06Speaker 2: But now I know Aston is taken on the Apple
- 9:10Speaker 2: I guess they're kind of really yeah, yeah, they're really
- 9:13Speaker 2: like integrating Apple car Play into their cars.
- 9:15Speaker 1: It's super exciting.
- 9:16Speaker 2: Do you know what you kind of said this like
- 9:18Speaker 2: two years ago on this podcast could have been longer
- 9:21Speaker 2: that you reckon the Apple car is shelved. You said
- 9:25Speaker 2: they're going to concentrate all their time, their money, their
- 9:28Speaker 2: resources into Apple car Play. You think that's where the
- 9:31Speaker 2: value is And fuck man, you got that one.
- 9:34Speaker 1: I mean, it's fascinating because a lot of car companies
- 9:36Speaker 1: are pushing back against it. But when if I'd love
- 9:39Speaker 1: to drive that, Aston Martin, because it's a unique experience
- 9:42Speaker 1: because you're choosing to if you connect your phone, you're
- 9:45Speaker 1: choosing to say, I don't want to see the dials,
- 9:47Speaker 1: instrument cluster that Aston Martin's credit, I don't want to
- 9:49Speaker 1: see the infotainment system at all. It's all coming from
- 9:53Speaker 1: my phone, and then it's able to connect and bring
- 9:55Speaker 1: in all the diagnosis of the car so you can
- 9:57Speaker 1: control your temperatures and all that. But you to choose
- 10:00Speaker 1: so I want the temperature over here. You know. It's
- 10:03Speaker 1: like widgets on your phone. You get to choose how
- 10:05Speaker 1: you have the layout, you get to choose what you
- 10:07Speaker 1: want the dials to look look like. I think that
- 10:09Speaker 1: level of customization is super exciting, cool, and I think
- 10:12Speaker 1: it's a waste of money and time and resources for
- 10:15Speaker 1: car companies to develop infotainment systems when they can just
- 10:19Speaker 1: have something to plug and play.
- 10:20Speaker 2: However, there is something amazing. I think when you buy
- 10:24Speaker 2: a car and you look at say that what's behind
- 10:26Speaker 2: the steering wheel rather than what Apple is customizing or
- 10:31Speaker 2: what Apple is putting out there.
- 10:33Speaker 1: Well, I would say to you, take yourself out of
- 10:35Speaker 1: the mind of a really nice car like an Aston Martin.
- 10:38Speaker 1: You now put yourself in one of these modern cars
- 10:41Speaker 1: where we're getting that the brands we've never heard of,
- 10:42Speaker 1: and you get in there and there's this square, little,
- 10:46Speaker 1: tiny but very wide, rectangular screen in front of the driver,
- 10:50Speaker 1: and it's a lot of information, Like I think there's
- 10:54Speaker 1: too much there. There's little tiny icons for things like
- 10:56Speaker 1: battery and all this, and I'm like, dude, I just
- 10:58Speaker 1: want to have fast I'm going and what what the
- 11:00Speaker 1: cruise control set out? And like I want to choose
- 11:03Speaker 1: basic info. I would opt for a head up display
- 11:07Speaker 1: over any instrument cluster because I think the head up
- 11:09Speaker 1: display is the least acknowledged feature of any car. Like
- 11:12Speaker 1: if I get in a car that's worth more than
- 11:14Speaker 1: eighty thousand dollars and it doesn't have a head up display, yeah,
- 11:18Speaker 1: that's pretty disappointing.
- 11:19Speaker 2: It's a slight concern, right.
- 11:20Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 11:21Speaker 2: But having said that, I mean some of these car companies,
- 11:25Speaker 2: like I kind of feel like a normal everyday commuter,
- 11:28Speaker 2: especially a lot. What are these Chinese companies are coming
- 11:30Speaker 2: out with? Should definitely be on Apple, Like keep it
- 11:33Speaker 2: fucking tight and bright, keep your Apple car play linked
- 11:37Speaker 2: with everything. It would make so much sense. But I
- 11:39Speaker 2: don't know. I feel like there's something special when you
- 11:41Speaker 2: go into like a Porsche or yeah, an Asta Martin
- 11:45Speaker 2: and you kind of you want to rely on, like
- 11:48Speaker 2: or even like a Ford Mustang, like they're icon design. Yeah,
- 11:51Speaker 2: their iconic stuff, and like say same with say like
- 11:53Speaker 2: a Mini. I mean, look I love the Mini, right,
- 11:57Speaker 2: I love that they've got that big o lead display
- 11:59Speaker 2: thing in the middle of the circular think in the
- 12:01Speaker 2: new ones. I think that's really cool. I think it
- 12:04Speaker 2: is a bit odd now that they've kind of taken
- 12:06Speaker 2: a little bit too. It just feels a little bit
- 12:09Speaker 2: clinical on that on that screen.
- 12:11Speaker 1: It's a bit childish now the Mini because it's all
- 12:13Speaker 1: about like this cool background wallpaper. It's all like, I
- 12:16Speaker 1: don't want a background wallpaper in my car, and a
- 12:19Speaker 1: lot of the Chinese cars have it on their begin
- 12:20Speaker 1: potame and it's like choose your theme and all that.
- 12:22Speaker 1: Just give me the icons, give me the information.
- 12:26Speaker 2: That's if you that's if you want to. Like, that's
- 12:28Speaker 2: the thing I loved about the Mini. Right you can
- 12:29Speaker 2: put it in different modes Gokart mode or whatever, and
- 12:32Speaker 2: like the whole thing, you know, how goes wrong? Yes,
- 12:34Speaker 2: like go cart mode or if you want, you can
- 12:37Speaker 2: put in the photos and all that sort of stuff
- 12:39Speaker 2: as well.
- 12:39Speaker 1: But personalization, I guess that's a personality thing too. You know.
- 12:42Speaker 1: Some people are much more into that. You know, I
- 12:44Speaker 1: want I want this picture there, I want that thing there.
- 12:47Speaker 1: But like it's wild to me, you know, I use
- 12:49Speaker 1: Android as much as I do iPhone in a year
- 12:51Speaker 1: and there's still cars that don't support Android Order, and
- 12:54Speaker 1: I think leap Mode is one of them. From memory,
- 12:56Speaker 1: the last one I drove, I'm like, how are you
- 12:58Speaker 1: not supporting.
- 12:59Speaker 2: Fun fat They don't fucking have Apple car Play.
- 13:02Speaker 1: I was using an Android phone at the time, and
- 13:04Speaker 1: I'm thinking, this is while they don't support this, but.
- 13:06Speaker 2: Not to have car play as well, they have nothing.
- 13:09Speaker 2: It's outrageous. That's what that was. Like That wegged me
- 13:12Speaker 2: out about the Elite MOTORC ten because I got in
- 13:16Speaker 2: that and I thought I was actually really excited because
- 13:19Speaker 2: I remember when they brought it out. I thought, Wow,
- 13:21Speaker 2: this is actually like, it looks pretty good. It looks
- 13:24Speaker 2: like a pretty nice car. It's sleek, and it's ambiguous
- 13:27Speaker 2: a little bit, but it's it's got a presence about it.
- 13:30Speaker 2: It's you know, I had an all black. Everything was black.
- 13:32Speaker 2: It looked cool. The interior looks really cool. You can
- 13:34Speaker 2: get it in like a tan interior, like a dog
- 13:38Speaker 2: Trump tan. Yes, presidential ten, Yes, presidential tan. But that's
- 13:45Speaker 2: where it ended for me, Like the actual driving experience
- 13:48Speaker 2: was rubbish. Do you feel it?
- 13:50Speaker 1: So let's just talk driving experience of the Elite Motac ten.
- 13:52Speaker 1: I went pretty hard on it in my video and
- 13:55Speaker 1: a lot of the comments I'll acknowledge right now. A
- 13:57Speaker 1: lot of the comments were, but it does do this,
- 13:58Speaker 1: and it does do that, you just didn't know about them, Like, well,
- 14:00Speaker 1: that's not my fucking problem. Like if a brand doesn't
- 14:02Speaker 1: go to the trouble of emailing you or phoning you
- 14:05Speaker 1: to say, hey, just while you've got the car, you
- 14:06Speaker 1: should know that a normal owner would have an app
- 14:10Speaker 1: that they can open it with.
- 14:11Speaker 2: Also, I think it points to the fact that that
- 14:14Speaker 2: car is so not user friendly. It's not funny. The
- 14:17Speaker 2: fact that you can spend a week in that and
- 14:19Speaker 2: not know the fucking basics, I think says a lot
- 14:23Speaker 2: of how that designs.
- 14:24Speaker 1: We were using a tap and go card on the
- 14:26Speaker 1: fucking mirror to lock. The thing I'm thinking, do I
- 14:28Speaker 1: walk away from it? Is that how it locks? I've
- 14:30Speaker 1: got a tap of the card. Yeah and yeah, okay,
- 14:32Speaker 1: an owner would have an app. But I still think
- 14:34Speaker 1: it's stupid that you've got to put the card on
- 14:36Speaker 1: the proximity on the wireless charger to start the car
- 14:39Speaker 1: and then move it to put your phone there, and
- 14:42Speaker 1: just as a drive and I'm not Paul Merrick. I
- 14:44Speaker 1: don't I don't know how to talk about how a
- 14:46Speaker 1: car feels, but I know when a car doesn't feel right.
- 14:50Speaker 1: And if you rewind to when when even Holden was
- 14:52Speaker 1: in Australia, remember they used to bring out like an Astra,
- 14:55Speaker 1: the opal Astra, and they'd say, but it's now the
- 14:57Speaker 1: whole inn Astra, and we've we've refined it for the
- 14:59Speaker 1: local you know, car local conditions, because we have a
- 15:02Speaker 1: different expectation of the way the steering feels. And the
- 15:05Speaker 1: best way I could describe it to my thirteen year
- 15:07Speaker 1: old who's like, what do you Why don't you like it?
- 15:09Speaker 1: Like there's no weight to the wheel. It's like the
- 15:11Speaker 1: wheel was just like loosely abundant to steer, which is
- 15:16Speaker 1: totally in control of the wheels. Don't get me wrong,
- 15:18Speaker 1: but I need weight to the wheel. It was just
- 15:21Speaker 1: far too loose for me, and I didn't love the
- 15:24Speaker 1: way it felt to drive at all.
- 15:26Speaker 2: Well, that's that's a really good point. And like feeling
- 15:28Speaker 2: the road is intuitive, and when you get in that car,
- 15:32Speaker 2: you don't it sounds wanky, but you don't feel the
- 15:35Speaker 2: road like you don't the steering is so loose, it
- 15:39Speaker 2: could just be doing anything, like everything kind of works
- 15:42Speaker 2: in sync with each other, and nothing does in this car,
- 15:47Speaker 2: even from the driving position, the wheel position, the way
- 15:49Speaker 2: it turns.
- 15:51Speaker 1: It just ah, it felt like a startup company had
- 15:55Speaker 1: decided to build a car and they didn't bring any
- 15:58Speaker 1: motoring engineers in to go this is what we've done.
- 16:01Speaker 1: How do we make it drive like a car? Now,
- 16:03Speaker 1: we've worked out how scalelectrics works, this the accelerated thing
- 16:07Speaker 1: and breaking We've got all that worked out. But you know,
- 16:09Speaker 1: how do we put the personality into it? Because that's
- 16:11Speaker 1: the thing. And motoring journals of old we'll talk about
- 16:14Speaker 1: how different brands have different personalities and the feeling of it.
- 16:18Speaker 1: Like I genuinely love the fact that European cars do
- 16:21Speaker 1: have a different feel on the road than your American cars.
- 16:25Speaker 1: American cars are just a very different thing to drive. Yeah,
- 16:27Speaker 1: and that's because Americans want it that way.
- 16:30Speaker 2: I get it, and in every aspect, Like you could
- 16:33Speaker 2: sit in an American car compared to a European car,
- 16:36Speaker 2: I would. I would say, apart from the last couple
- 16:38Speaker 2: of years, the Americans haven't designed a good interior in
- 16:42Speaker 2: thirty years plus, right, whereas the Europeans, Holy molely.
- 16:47Speaker 1: Have you driven the Cadillac lyric? Yes, like that, that's
- 16:50Speaker 1: where you go. Okay, they're getting it.
- 16:51Speaker 2: They're getting it.
- 16:52Speaker 1: They do need they have worked out how this can
- 16:54Speaker 1: be done.
- 16:54Speaker 2: And it's not just in the Cadillac. The Silverados like
- 16:57Speaker 2: a great sateury for the market. The Ram as well,
- 17:01Speaker 2: they're doing really good things. But you know, rewind a
- 17:05Speaker 2: couple of years ago it was not the case. But yeah,
- 17:08Speaker 2: you get in this this leap motor and that tapp
- 17:11Speaker 2: and go card and Paul. Me and Paul had a
- 17:13Speaker 2: bit of an argument about it. He goes, why don't
- 17:15Speaker 2: you just use your phone? Just use your phone? I
- 17:16Speaker 2: used it with my Tesla for years. You get the
- 17:19Speaker 2: average user. She's a mom with three kids. Her phone
- 17:23Speaker 2: fucking dies. Like apart from the button on the boot,
- 17:26Speaker 2: which took me ages to kind of work out, there's
- 17:28Speaker 2: a button apparently on the boot that opens it. I
- 17:30Speaker 2: think that was.
- 17:31Speaker 1: Hilarious that you had that same problem, because Finick was
- 17:33Speaker 1: just I couldn't work out to open the boot, and
- 17:34Speaker 1: I'm like, that's amazing. And then I took the car
- 17:36Speaker 1: and I went, there's a button. It was just not.
- 17:38Speaker 1: It was on the right hand side. It wasn't where
- 17:40Speaker 1: any button would ever be.
- 17:41Speaker 2: And it looks like a censer as well. It looks
- 17:44Speaker 2: like the sense. But I wonder if we got the
- 17:45Speaker 2: same car because like, I'm sure that button.
- 17:48Speaker 1: So Paul wasn't as negative about it, is what he's saying.
- 17:50Speaker 2: But no, he wasn't negative. He was more sort of going, well,
- 17:54Speaker 2: there's nothing wrong with using your phone, and I had
- 17:57Speaker 2: he had a card for his Tesla for ages, but
- 18:00Speaker 2: he didn't use this c ten. He didn't have to
- 18:02Speaker 2: literally fucking clumsily rub this card on the mirror the
- 18:07Speaker 2: mirror like you're asking a genie for wishers. You didn't
- 18:11Speaker 2: have to then go in and the only way generally
- 18:13Speaker 2: to open the boot from inside the car is to
- 18:16Speaker 2: go through three different menus on the touch screen. If
- 18:18Speaker 2: you're a mom with a couple of kids and you
- 18:20Speaker 2: just want to get the shopping in the back of
- 18:21Speaker 2: the car and your phone's dead or whatever. To me,
- 18:25Speaker 2: it just felt like an instant.
- 18:26Speaker 1: That goes to this whole concept now, these center screens
- 18:29Speaker 1: being where all the controls are. I was in an
- 18:31Speaker 1: uber on Monday and it was a Tesla Model Y
- 18:36Speaker 1: and a lovely old bloke so like in his seventies,
- 18:38Speaker 1: retired just driving ubers and he had his maps, an
- 18:42Speaker 1: uber phone on one side, but on the off coming
- 18:44Speaker 1: off the center screen of the Chesli had an iPhone
- 18:47Speaker 1: which was running a third party app which had short
- 18:50Speaker 1: cut icons to quick features like open the boot, open
- 18:53Speaker 1: the door, turn on client, like.
- 18:55Speaker 2: Hit on his phone.
- 18:57Speaker 1: What the fuck are we doing where you're using a
- 18:59Speaker 1: smartphone in amount to control features that should be a
- 19:02Speaker 1: button in the friggin car Like that is wild to me.
- 19:05Speaker 1: And the other thing about the lead murder, I think
- 19:08Speaker 1: in reflection it's a bit egotistic or whatever you want
- 19:11Speaker 1: to say about it. People listening who own one would
- 19:13Speaker 1: be like you idiots, because this, that and the other.
- 19:15Speaker 1: But when we pick up a car, you just handed
- 19:17Speaker 1: a set of keys, and often I'll sit in and
- 19:20Speaker 1: I go, where the fuck is the start button, like
- 19:21Speaker 1: because they've driven it over to you in this big
- 19:23Speaker 1: complex where there's just cars and cars cars, and you're like, fuck,
- 19:26Speaker 1: I better find the start button. It's like it's a
- 19:27Speaker 1: bit awkward.
- 19:27Speaker 2: Sometimes and then generally you've got to once you pull
- 19:30Speaker 2: out of it, because we go to the same place
- 19:32Speaker 2: you pull out, and when it was in Brrickville, you
- 19:35Speaker 2: have to try to find somewhere to pull over. I'm
- 19:38Speaker 2: set my phone up, house is going to work. And
- 19:40Speaker 2: the amount of times like I saw other car like
- 19:42Speaker 2: other car journalists like i'mnd, but I saw actual car
- 19:45Speaker 2: journalists like looking out the window just laughing at me,
- 19:48Speaker 2: like yeah, but you all fucking get we're doing the
- 19:51Speaker 2: same thing.
- 19:52Speaker 1: So it's funny because in the tech world, I'm a
- 19:54Speaker 1: bit of a pain in the ass. Probably to some brands,
- 19:56Speaker 1: They're like, oh, we want to we want to give
- 19:58Speaker 1: you a half hour briefing on this thing and then
- 20:00Speaker 1: I'll show you how to set up the product. And
- 20:02Speaker 1: I'm like, dude, if you send me the product, I'll
- 20:04Speaker 1: set it up. Because if I can't set it up,
- 20:06Speaker 1: how does the fucking average user set it up? And
- 20:08Speaker 1: so that was always my mentality with a car, It's like,
- 20:10Speaker 1: if I can't work it out, how's anyone else working out?
- 20:12Speaker 1: But then I realized when you buy a car, you
- 20:14Speaker 1: do normally get ave it a walk through, So yeah,
- 20:17Speaker 1: I'll hand leapmode of that that maybe if they had
- 20:19Speaker 1: someone out there giving us a walk through, it might
- 20:22Speaker 1: be different. And it's funny because I'm going to drive
- 20:24Speaker 1: the IM the MG premium brand in a couple of months,
- 20:28Speaker 1: and oh yeah. They were like, we want to give
- 20:29Speaker 1: you a handover for twenty minutes. And I'm like, you
- 20:32Speaker 1: know what. I was going to say, fuck off, but
- 20:34Speaker 1: then I thought, you know what, I'm going to take
- 20:35Speaker 1: it because if there's something about the car that I
- 20:38Speaker 1: need to know, then they've got that opportunity to tell
- 20:40Speaker 1: me about it. Because I feel like that's where Leadmotor
- 20:42Speaker 1: let themselves down.
- 20:43Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, the new sector of MG are putting together
- 20:46Speaker 2: some great stuff. When you were talking about the infotainment, Actually,
- 20:50Speaker 2: one thing I will say about the C ten the
- 20:51Speaker 2: fact that it does not have Apple Car Play, it
- 20:55Speaker 2: does not have Android Auto. It is not a user
- 20:59Speaker 2: for friendly car. This is a car that is not
- 21:02Speaker 2: ready for market. It should not have been released. It's
- 21:05Speaker 2: not a using friendly car. It is possibly the worst
- 21:08Speaker 2: car I've ever sat it.
- 21:09Speaker 1: It's by a friendly that's all it is. Because at
- 21:11Speaker 1: forty six thousand dollars for that much space, it's pretty
- 21:13Speaker 1: buddy good value.
- 21:14Speaker 2: Yeah. But is it though? Because that sector there's a
- 21:17Speaker 2: lot of competitive cars coming out of if you want electric.
- 21:19Speaker 1: But for that size in electric it's unbelievable value.
- 21:23Speaker 2: I disagree. I disagree, Like I'm driving the MG five
- 21:28Speaker 2: s EV same price, and that's for the absolute topic.
- 21:31Speaker 1: It's a similar size too.
- 21:32Speaker 2: Yeah, and this is what I'll say about that. In
- 21:34Speaker 2: terms of the middle screen, the infotainment display, they have
- 21:39Speaker 2: nailed it like and I'm not just saying that because
- 21:41Speaker 2: I'm driving the thing. They have nailed that in such
- 21:44Speaker 2: a way where not only is like it wireless, Apple
- 21:47Speaker 2: car Play and Android Auto, everything that you need generally
- 21:52Speaker 2: for day to day and all the time is either
- 21:54Speaker 2: physical or it's hardwired at the bottom of the screen
- 21:56Speaker 2: so it's always there. So things like climate control physical,
- 22:00Speaker 2: they're just temperature, physical, volume, physical, changing tracks if you
- 22:04Speaker 2: want that, that's physical. But things like if you want
- 22:07Speaker 2: to get into a car, or maps or the radio media,
- 22:10Speaker 2: it's all just touch there. It's all there all the time.
- 22:13Speaker 2: And then you've got the Apple car plate on top
- 22:17Speaker 2: of that. Yes, so it works really well. Look that
- 22:20Speaker 2: in one of those yet No, we've we've got it
- 22:22Speaker 2: at the moment.
- 22:23Speaker 1: So all we do is we have two cars over
- 22:25Speaker 1: two weeks, and so I'll pick a one up and
- 22:27Speaker 1: Finnical pick one up and then on a Wednesday when
- 22:29Speaker 1: we record, we swap, so that we've over the course
- 22:31Speaker 1: of two weeks, we've each got it for a full week,
- 22:33Speaker 1: including a weekend. So I've got the JCU it's called
- 22:38Speaker 1: the Super High Hybrid something J seven or something I
- 22:42Speaker 1: think it's called, and Fenix got the five S and
- 22:45Speaker 1: and we'll switch on on Friday. So I'll look forward
- 22:47Speaker 1: to it because I do think MG so I've not
- 22:50Speaker 1: been a fan of their petrol cars because I think
- 22:52Speaker 1: they are for the mass market. They're they're built at
- 22:55Speaker 1: a price, and that worries me a bit, but it's
- 22:57Speaker 1: it feeds the market because, as we discussed before, you
- 22:59Speaker 1: can buy cheap car anymore.
- 23:00Speaker 2: It's ridiculous, that's exactly I think. I think the thing
- 23:03Speaker 2: that I've always admired in that sense is what they've
- 23:06Speaker 2: done is they've put families who not doing it tough,
- 23:11Speaker 2: but life's a bit fucking hard.
- 23:13Speaker 1: I'm looking at a brand new car, well yeah.
- 23:15Speaker 2: Exactly, they're trying to get a brand new car, and
- 23:17Speaker 2: they're putting a family of five in a brand new
- 23:19Speaker 2: car with a decent warranty behind it.
- 23:21Speaker 1: And I wasn't a big fan of their early EV's
- 23:23Speaker 1: just because they were bolt on you upgrades to petrol cars.
- 23:25Speaker 1: But now that they've got a platform for pure evs
- 23:30Speaker 1: MG four unbelievable car, this thing looks amazing, And I
- 23:33Speaker 1: think it's because they've they've put the time and effort
- 23:35Speaker 1: into software, but without over engineering. Like the fact is
- 23:39Speaker 1: most of these brands, whether it's a deep power, leap Matterer,
- 23:42Speaker 1: whatever they are, they're over engineering the software. It's like,
- 23:46Speaker 1: I don't care that you've got software that can show
- 23:48Speaker 1: me people walking on the road like a Tesla can.
- 23:50Speaker 2: No one cares, and Mike can fucking see with my
- 23:52Speaker 2: eye and no one's actually ever fucking cared that, Like
- 23:56Speaker 2: exactly the tests, like you're driving next door building or
- 23:59Speaker 2: a truck. If you're getting that information by looking at
- 24:02Speaker 2: the screen, I suggest you look in front of you
- 24:04Speaker 2: because you're about to crash your fucking shit.
- 24:06Speaker 1: You needed to know there were construction cones by looking
- 24:09Speaker 1: at a fucking screen. Dude, you've got problems. I get it.
- 24:11Speaker 1: They're trying to prove that ghost.
- 24:13Speaker 2: It's pretty cool.
- 24:15Speaker 1: Autonomous, but if you ever driven through.
- 24:17Speaker 2: A sementary and you can see people walking on there.
- 24:19Speaker 1: That's fucking stupid.
- 24:20Speaker 2: That's cool.
- 24:20Speaker 1: That is pure Elon musk. Yeah, yeah, insanity. The bloke's
- 24:24Speaker 1: a lunaty.
- 24:25Speaker 2: Here's what I'll say about MG right, if you look
- 24:27Speaker 2: at say the last twelve to eighteen months, what I
- 24:30Speaker 2: do like is, and I'm not just I'll throw shit
- 24:33Speaker 2: at them if I have to, but what I do
- 24:35Speaker 2: like is everything from the MG five s ev to
- 24:38Speaker 2: even the ZS Hybrid which I had the HS as well.
- 24:42Speaker 2: They've come together with all brand new design language. They're
- 24:45Speaker 2: setting a new price point. They may not be the
- 24:49Speaker 2: best fucking car on the market, but their best I
- 24:52Speaker 2: reckon in what they're putting out in their space, do
- 24:54Speaker 2: you know what I mean?
- 24:54Speaker 1: Absolutely, we definitely, I don't know. I think we gave
- 24:58Speaker 1: the MG four best CV under fifty thousand last year
- 25:02Speaker 1: in my EFTM magazine Awards because it's fucking great value
- 25:06Speaker 1: car and fully electric, Like if you want to go electric. Man,
- 25:10Speaker 1: it's very hard to argue that MG shouldn't be your
- 25:13Speaker 1: first test drive, Yeah, because that should be that should
- 25:16Speaker 1: be the benchmark for Okay, what can be better than that?
- 25:19Speaker 1: So you might go to a BYD and oh that
- 25:21Speaker 1: felt better or looks different or whatever. Then you might
- 25:23Speaker 1: go to a Kere and you've got to compare it
- 25:25Speaker 1: back to that thing, which is essentially most likely going
- 25:27Speaker 1: to be the most affordable one of the big brands.
- 25:29Speaker 1: And lets you people who don't want to go to
- 25:31Speaker 1: these new Challenger brands. Are they going to be around
- 25:33Speaker 1: in five years? Don't? MG certainly will be.
- 25:36Speaker 2: Yeah, I think they will be. I think out of
- 25:38Speaker 2: all the Chinese cars, MGBYD, they're here for the long haul.
- 25:41Speaker 1: Yes, yes, the rest of them, I can't make a
- 25:44Speaker 1: judgment on.
- 25:45Speaker 2: Yeah, they've got the chops to back it up as well.
- 25:47Speaker 2: I think what they're putting out is in their space,
- 25:49Speaker 2: in their own line. It's top class.
- 25:53Speaker 1: I made of mind bought the MG four and texts
- 25:56Speaker 1: me regularly that he just thinks it's the coolest thing.
- 25:58Speaker 2: Did you by the x no Ah, the XPI is fun,
- 26:02Speaker 2: you know what? I think that's interesting. They're putting out
- 26:05Speaker 2: these cars that could be most people might call them
- 26:08Speaker 2: plane Jane. They're putting out affordable cars, good design, all that,
- 26:11Speaker 2: but what it does allow them to do is to
- 26:13Speaker 2: bring out fucking nutsy things like the cyberst Like yeah,
- 26:18Speaker 2: DATLA was fun, Like you kind of look at that
- 26:20Speaker 2: I quite enjoyed that.
- 26:20Speaker 1: Look, there's a few fucking problems with it, like the
- 26:23Speaker 1: screens behind the wheel and stuff, but you don't like
- 26:24Speaker 1: that they're just they're covered by the wheel, Like just
- 26:28Speaker 1: the placement was slightly wrong. But my I visited my
- 26:32Speaker 1: uncle in Canberra on the weekend. He's got an old
- 26:34Speaker 1: mg B like he's part of the MG club and
- 26:36Speaker 1: all that. You know. I said, what's the vibe among
- 26:39Speaker 1: proper MG enthusiasts about this thing? And he said, look,
- 26:42Speaker 1: you know, we, he said, as the club kind of
- 26:44Speaker 1: struggle with you know, do we let them into the club?
- 26:46Speaker 1: You know, because you know, a new MG owner is
- 26:49Speaker 1: very different to a classic MG owner when they're going
- 26:51Speaker 1: on long you know, country drives, enjoying their old mgb's
- 26:53Speaker 1: and things. But he said, you know, one of their
- 26:55Speaker 1: owners has bought a cyberster and he's bringing it to
- 26:57Speaker 1: the club in September. It's going to be exciting. And
- 27:00Speaker 1: another man of mine went, this is crazy money. But
- 27:02Speaker 1: I said, look, it's not about selling lots of those cars.
- 27:05Speaker 1: That's about creating a flagship product that says we can
- 27:10Speaker 1: build something very impressive. I think it's a nod to
- 27:14Speaker 1: their heritage, which is, you know, the two seat sports
- 27:17Speaker 1: car open top. That that's an absolute nod to their heritage.
- 27:20Speaker 1: And I respect that. I didn't love the drive. I
- 27:23Speaker 1: think that it probably could have been tuned better, you know,
- 27:26Speaker 1: the steering and ride and handling could have been tuned
- 27:28Speaker 1: a bit better. But it still was the most impressive
- 27:32Speaker 1: MG I've driven.
- 27:33Speaker 2: Oh it's no funny question, undeniably fun And like, here's
- 27:37Speaker 2: the thing. Our family's got like a bit of a
- 27:38Speaker 2: long heritage. My dad, when he was like sixteen, him
- 27:42Speaker 2: and mum, Dad would do up the MG's. Mom would
- 27:44Speaker 2: be like in there in the workshop with him, and
- 27:47Speaker 2: you know, I grew up like going to my grandparents'
- 27:49Speaker 2: house and you know, there was like these MG logos
- 27:51Speaker 2: that were painted like in the garage, like dad painted
- 27:53Speaker 2: them when he was sixteen years old. I used to
- 27:55Speaker 2: do up tfs and all this sort of stuff, and
- 27:59Speaker 2: I thought I should I should just get an MGB
- 28:01Speaker 2: like just and so I I went to have a
- 28:04Speaker 2: look at one the other day actually, and it was, oh,
- 28:06Speaker 2: it was good. But it is driving in nineteen bloody.
- 28:11Speaker 1: That's not a third car, that's a fourth car. You know,
- 28:13Speaker 1: that's a real you know garage, you know, take it
- 28:15Speaker 1: out once or three times a year.
- 28:17Speaker 2: Yeah, you go to the wineries with it, and that's
- 28:19Speaker 2: about it.
- 28:19Speaker 1: And look, I respect the fact that a Chinese company
- 28:23Speaker 1: bought a brand and went we're going to sell tons
- 28:26Speaker 1: of these things, because I think if you did a
- 28:28Speaker 1: survey of most MG three hatchback owners, let alone EV owners,
- 28:33Speaker 1: I'm not sure many of them realized it's not even
- 28:34Speaker 1: British brand still, do you know what I mean? Yeah,
- 28:36Speaker 1: Like I think they bought a smart brand. My argument
- 28:38Speaker 1: here is if General Motors let go of the Holden brand,
- 28:42Speaker 1: like they relinquished the ownership of it, and Jeerly or
- 28:46Speaker 1: someone bought the Holden brand, you don't think they would
- 28:49Speaker 1: sell a shit ton of Holden electric cars just because
- 28:52Speaker 1: of the brand affiliation. Yes, true, Holden officiados would like
- 28:56Speaker 1: they did with the last Commodore ZB They'd be like
- 28:59Speaker 1: fuck that it's not a Holden. But a bunch of
- 29:01Speaker 1: people would go, I got a Holding electric car because
- 29:04Speaker 1: the brand's That's what MG has going for. It is
- 29:07Speaker 1: pure brand reputation and it's genius. Yeah, bloody genius.
- 29:11Speaker 2: I think it's I think Look my problem with the cyberster.
- 29:15Speaker 1: Was how beautiful it is, how lovely the doors are?
- 29:18Speaker 2: You know it is? It is set up well.
- 29:20Speaker 1: I think on a tour, like a lovely country drive,
- 29:23Speaker 1: it'd be a lovely thing to take with a picnic
- 29:25Speaker 1: in the back.
- 29:25Speaker 2: And it's a quick cart and it's almost too fucking quick,
- 29:30Speaker 2: it's so fast, and like if Obviously I don't have
- 29:32Speaker 2: this problem because I'm the size of a smurf, but
- 29:35Speaker 2: someone like Paul, who's like seven foot eight, you.
- 29:38Speaker 1: Know his heads, he's an awkward size.
- 29:40Speaker 2: He's big fat croatian heads popping out the top, and
- 29:44Speaker 2: so that was an issue. But the dealer. I remember
- 29:47Speaker 2: when the dealer handed it over to me, he goes,
- 29:49Speaker 2: I mean, I'm like, how much are you are you
- 29:51Speaker 2: guys selling this for? He's like one hundred and ten grand.
- 29:53Speaker 2: I'm like whoa, And he goes, what are you talking about?
- 29:56Speaker 2: Not a bad price for a supercar. And I was like, oh,
- 30:00Speaker 2: so you shouldn't have said it's a supercar. It's a
- 30:05Speaker 2: beautiful car, it's a lovely cup it don't call it.
- 30:07Speaker 2: Don't do that.
- 30:08Speaker 1: Don't you know there's no two seat sports car on
- 30:11Speaker 1: the market.
- 30:12Speaker 2: No, no, So they're the only ones doing it genius
- 30:16Speaker 2: a little bit.
- 30:17Speaker 1: Again, I respect it. I respect what they've done with
- 30:19Speaker 1: it as a as a concept to draw the brand
- 30:22Speaker 1: and to really excite people about the brand. I think
- 30:25Speaker 1: it's very smart.
- 30:25Speaker 2: Do you want to go for a drive in an
- 30:26Speaker 2: MG cyberst mean? Yeah?
- 30:28Speaker 1: Where are we going? Honey? Are we taking a picnic? No?
- 30:32Speaker 2: I was going to say the brothel?
- 30:33Speaker 1: Well, right, okay, that's a hard note for me for
- 30:36Speaker 1: the hard pars.
- 30:37Speaker 2: Yeah, and where could we go? Where can we go?
- 30:38Speaker 2: In the in the in the cyberstuff.
- 30:41Speaker 1: A road of never driven is the what's called the
- 30:44Speaker 1: Great Ocean Road. I think that would be a great
- 30:47Speaker 1: drive in the cyberstore on a sunny day.
- 30:49Speaker 2: It's it's a windy, windy fucking road that one, is it? Yes?
- 30:54Speaker 2: I did it in or like what speed do you? Yeah?
- 30:57Speaker 2: I think it's technically eighty right. But even like as
- 31:00Speaker 2: an eighteen year old going down that thing full pelt
- 31:05Speaker 2: in a Reno cleo sport wasn't the smartest thing from me.
- 31:09Speaker 2: I always think about that and go, God, you're a
- 31:11Speaker 2: reckless little shit, Like what was I thinking?
- 31:14Speaker 1: We all had a moment time.
- 31:16Speaker 2: I did it also in my mate's dad's E sixty
- 31:20Speaker 2: three and was it. No, it's the C sixty three.
- 31:23Speaker 2: That was the fast one back in the day, wasn't it.
- 31:26Speaker 1: Yeah, that was memories.
- 31:28Speaker 2: That was a spicy one. It was good fun. Actually,
- 31:30Speaker 2: you had the I saw it? Was it the electric
- 31:32Speaker 2: G wagon? I saw you with.
- 31:34Speaker 1: Yeah, i've it's still out. It's sitting outside behind your MG.
- 31:37Speaker 2: Oh is it is here? Oh my god, we're gonna
- 31:39Speaker 2: have to it's a little tank.
- 31:40Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a tank. And do you know what's funny
- 31:42Speaker 1: about it?
- 31:43Speaker 2: It's a little bit cheaper than a normal one.
- 31:44Speaker 1: It's the cheapest g wagon here. It's three hundred thousand dollars.
- 31:47Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 31:47Speaker 1: Right, And when they announced I was in Melbourne at
- 31:49Speaker 1: the Grand Prix when they announced it, and I was like,
- 31:51Speaker 1: three hundred grands seems good. And most of the other
- 31:54Speaker 1: couple of murdering journals there and they're like, that's why
- 31:57Speaker 1: is it cheaper than the other one? Oh god? I
- 31:58Speaker 1: was right, it is cheap. And you know it's it's this.
- 32:02Speaker 1: I took it to the country, right, I took it
- 32:04Speaker 1: out to young No one there gives a shit about
- 32:07Speaker 1: a G wagon, right, even though it has the credentials
- 32:09Speaker 1: for being off road in the country. That thing is
- 32:12Speaker 1: all about two I raq and wore clues.
- 32:14Speaker 2: Right dropping the kids.
- 32:15Speaker 1: I took my fourteen year old daughter into the city
- 32:19Speaker 1: for an event and she was like, you've got a
- 32:21Speaker 1: g wagon. I'm like, how do you know what a
- 32:22Speaker 1: g wagon is? So it's like an influencers car, and
- 32:24Speaker 1: to the point where we had to give another teenage girl.
- 32:27Speaker 1: I left home that night after the event and we
- 32:29Speaker 1: went to the car park. I clicked the button and.
- 32:31Speaker 2: She goes, you've got a g wagon.
- 32:34Speaker 1: I didn't realize this thing was like appealing to, you know,
- 32:38Speaker 1: kids and influencers and all that kind of jazz. I
- 32:41Speaker 1: knew it was the eastern suburb soccer mom car.
- 32:43Speaker 2: But honestly, if mister Beast is given that thing away
- 32:47Speaker 2: on YouTube, yeah, I'm telling you all of them, all
- 32:49Speaker 2: of them. Wont you know in the car?
- 32:51Speaker 1: Once you're in it, it's just it's just like driving
- 32:53Speaker 1: Mercedes because all the all the screens and everything, it's
- 32:55Speaker 1: just a Mercedes. But getting into it, opening the doors,
- 32:58Speaker 1: shutting the doors, just the feeling the setund of those
- 33:00Speaker 1: things is so unbelievable. Rains not great. It's got like
- 33:03Speaker 1: a four hundred klometer range and driving to the country
- 33:06Speaker 1: not great because at one hundred and fifteen on the
- 33:08Speaker 1: highway it's really sucking through the battery.
- 33:10Speaker 2: But did you get there on one trip?
- 33:12Speaker 1: No, I never. I never tried in one trip. I
- 33:14Speaker 1: always stop at Yas at the Tesla supercharger. They're just
- 33:17Speaker 1: juice set up here. There's a new supercharger by the way, Golban,
- 33:20Speaker 1: which I didn't find out about until i'd passed it.
- 33:23Speaker 1: That's open to non Teslas. So it's like twenty bays.
- 33:26Speaker 2: Yes, that's what it's going to say that it is
- 33:27Speaker 2: going to the rest of the industry.
- 33:29Speaker 1: Like I stop at the Tesla at Yas because there's
- 33:32Speaker 1: always space, there's always twelve bays. I normally stop at
- 33:34Speaker 1: Pheasant's Nest where there's an ampole with six norly six
- 33:37Speaker 1: bays on each side of the highway. And when I
- 33:40Speaker 1: stopped on the way home and they were all full.
- 33:42Speaker 2: That's the ampole charges, right, it's a charge.
- 33:44Speaker 1: They were all fucking full, and I'm like Jesus Christ,
- 33:46Speaker 1: and I was on fifteen percent, so I'm like, I
- 33:48Speaker 1: got a charge. I ended up driving to a shopping
- 33:50Speaker 1: center and picked it and charging there. But now that
- 33:52Speaker 1: I know there's Golban. I'm just going to do one
- 33:55Speaker 1: stop or one stop at everywhere charges because they're open,
- 33:58Speaker 1: they're fast, twenty of them. Dude. Tesla is putting the
- 34:02Speaker 1: others out of business because they're building the right size
- 34:06Speaker 1: sites with enough bays in the right places. Everyone else
- 34:12Speaker 1: is playing absolute catch up and they're not even close.
- 34:14Speaker 2: I was on ten percent coming into work the other
- 34:16Speaker 2: day and I was like, oh no, I'm gonna have
- 34:19Speaker 2: to charge this thing and I'll just walk into work
- 34:21Speaker 2: and I'll leave my charge my car here. And it
- 34:24Speaker 2: was ev I think it is E E V I
- 34:27Speaker 2: E right, four of them. I put one and they
- 34:30Speaker 2: were all empty. I'm like, oh fucking sweet, so charge
- 34:33Speaker 2: it up. And I'm like, oh, it's not it's not working.
- 34:37Speaker 1: It's not working.
- 34:37Speaker 2: Looked at the helpline. I'm like, hey, mate, what's going on?
- 34:41Speaker 2: And he said, which bay are you in? And I said, well,
- 34:44Speaker 2: I mean you know they one? Oh yeah, yeah, there's
- 34:47Speaker 2: no charge coming out of that wae that mu's broken.
- 34:49Speaker 1: They scoop. I knew that.
- 34:50Speaker 2: Okay, what about the next one? If I sort of
- 34:52Speaker 2: moved my car, set it all up, and am I
- 34:54Speaker 2: going to have to call you back, and he goes,
- 34:55Speaker 2: let me check. Oh, there's no check. The whole the
- 35:01Speaker 2: whole lot's broken, four of them.
- 35:03Speaker 1: And it is such that does not happen at a Tesla.
- 35:06Speaker 1: There might be two out that are not working for
- 35:08Speaker 1: some reason, but never all of them.
- 35:10Speaker 2: And here's the here's the disgusting bit. Right. I remember
- 35:13Speaker 2: looking down on that EV thing and the first thing
- 35:16Speaker 2: I saw that stood out right in the middle of
- 35:18Speaker 2: it is the Australian coat of arms supplied by the
- 35:22Speaker 2: Australian government. And I thought, you fucking absolute wrought, like
- 35:28Speaker 2: taxpayer dollars went into that. You've done some deal with
- 35:31Speaker 2: our government and you've absolutely just like this is the thing. Honestly,
- 35:38Speaker 2: I would say, apart from the Tesla chargers, I still
- 35:41Speaker 2: don't have faith and confidence in the charging network around
- 35:44Speaker 2: our country. I think it's absolute and I drive a
- 35:46Speaker 2: lot of kilometers. I do that trip down the country
- 35:48Speaker 2: a lot, and so.
- 35:50Speaker 1: I'm trying BPS and poles, charge Fox, EV and Tesla
- 35:54Speaker 1: and you've.
- 35:54Speaker 2: Got to have like little memberships in your front.
- 35:56Speaker 1: I'm just better off of the Tesla. Now, EV's best
- 35:59Speaker 1: advantage if you've got the right car and it's not
- 36:01Speaker 1: all cars, so my Cooper won't do it. But the
- 36:03Speaker 1: KEYA does is they have an auto charge, so like Tesla's.
- 36:07Speaker 1: With the Tesla, it knows who you are. So I've
- 36:09Speaker 1: said to my wife, if you ever urgently need power,
- 36:11Speaker 1: we've got an EV station up at Hornsby, which is
- 36:13Speaker 1: not a bad drive from us. You just plug the
- 36:16Speaker 1: car in no approquiet, it will just go. Oh it's
- 36:18Speaker 1: Trevi's Keia charge. That's the smartest thing that EV's done.
- 36:23Speaker 1: But it's not on all their charges. It's only their
- 36:25Speaker 1: most recent models, so the ones on the highway that
- 36:27Speaker 1: I use, they're not like that. So we've got so
- 36:30Speaker 1: far to go in the charging space, and Tesla is
- 36:33Speaker 1: lengths ahead. If I was elon Musk, if you could
- 36:35Speaker 1: take any advice from me, it is because you know,
- 36:37Speaker 1: I don't know corporations, but when they split companies up
- 36:39Speaker 1: like Woolworth splits out BWS or whatever the hell it is,
- 36:42Speaker 1: and you know it make it's a separate company in
- 36:43Speaker 1: the stock market, separate the supercharger network out as its
- 36:46Speaker 1: own business. That thing that's got value. Yeah, that's got value.
- 36:50Speaker 1: Because they build big sites, they provide fast power, they
- 36:54Speaker 1: maintain them.
- 36:54Speaker 2: Well, they've got great tech support.
- 36:56Speaker 1: Honestly, Yeah, it's it's I hate Tesla like passion. I
- 37:00Speaker 1: would never buy one or try and drive one, but
- 37:03Speaker 1: their charging network is without fail.
- 37:06Speaker 2: Respect for its due. Yeah, I think it wouldn't surprise me,
- 37:09Speaker 2: and it's probably a good good way of going. But
- 37:11Speaker 2: these EV companies should probably start like privatizing themselves a
- 37:14Speaker 2: lot more.
- 37:16Speaker 1: I don't know, mate, I've said for a long time
- 37:18Speaker 1: that what we need is, you know, you, Mike cannon
- 37:20Speaker 1: Brooks of the world, with all this crazy money and shit,
- 37:22Speaker 1: we need someone like Twiggy Forest or someone like that
- 37:24Speaker 1: to just go, here's fucking ten billion dollars. I want
- 37:28Speaker 1: you to build the next Shell or the next VP.
- 37:31Speaker 1: You know. I want to build the future of charging
- 37:34Speaker 1: across the country, but I don't need it to make
- 37:36Speaker 1: a profit for a decade.
- 37:38Speaker 2: That has to be the condition, because it has to
- 37:40Speaker 2: pay for itself.
- 37:41Speaker 1: Yeah, I can't. I'm not going to try and withdraw
- 37:44Speaker 1: my money out of this thing. But you know, so
- 37:46Speaker 1: that's the problem is all these companies they're not expanding
- 37:49Speaker 1: their bays. They're not adding six bays to a four
- 37:52Speaker 1: bay area because they've got to suck the life out
- 37:54Speaker 1: of the four they've got there. Before they invest anymore,
- 37:57Speaker 1: you need someone who's going to go, we're going to
- 37:59Speaker 1: build twenty bays, and we're going to build a convenience
- 38:02Speaker 1: store and a cafe and a lounge. Like that's the
- 38:04Speaker 1: future of charging. You look go to a Tesla supercharger
- 38:08Speaker 1: where cars, both Tesla and otherwise are sitting and charging,
- 38:11Speaker 1: and I see it because I'm at Yes more often
- 38:13Speaker 1: than not. And you'll see an old couple sitting there
- 38:15Speaker 1: with a coffee in a paper. You'll see another bike
- 38:17Speaker 1: sitting there on his laptop. You'll see me editing videos
- 38:19Speaker 1: or whatever I'm doing. If I could get out of
- 38:21Speaker 1: the car and sit in a lounge and pay, pay
- 38:23Speaker 1: for drinks and that kind of stuff, well I would
- 38:26Speaker 1: do that. Yeah.
- 38:26Speaker 2: Well, I mean they've already started doing that. Tesla started
- 38:29Speaker 2: doing that with that diner over there in La, and
- 38:31Speaker 2: that's a real thing. I thought it was all fake, but.
- 38:34Speaker 1: In March and I thought, what the fuck is this?
- 38:35Speaker 1: It looks like a space ship. Yeah, it's a very
- 38:37Speaker 1: cool idea, but it's again, it's I don't think it's
- 38:40Speaker 1: their plan for the future. I think it's just their
- 38:42Speaker 1: way of showing off the Melros you know, yeah, but.
- 38:45Speaker 2: There's but think about it, though, what have they got there?
- 38:47Speaker 2: Let's say forty charges, right, I mean, they've still got
- 38:50Speaker 2: the diner on the inside. You can do all that
- 38:52Speaker 2: they've got. I think upstairs is like a fucking bar
- 38:55Speaker 2: and a cinema up there. Like it's a great idea to.
- 38:57Speaker 1: Cool it is. Someone though, like Elon, has to put
- 39:00Speaker 1: their money where their mouth is. That's what he's done.
- 39:02Speaker 1: There's no way it's cost effective for Tesla to build
- 39:05Speaker 1: twenty charges at Goldman in a second side, because they've
- 39:07Speaker 1: already got a charger site that's Tesla only in town.
- 39:10Speaker 1: This site's another site. It just doesn't seem logical that
- 39:15Speaker 1: it's right to build twenty. But they're doing it because
- 39:17Speaker 1: they're thinking of the future. They're thinking of those five
- 39:20Speaker 1: days a year at the start and the finish of
- 39:22Speaker 1: school holidays when there is going to be demand.
- 39:25Speaker 2: That's what they're thinking of. No one else is thinking
- 39:27Speaker 2: about that. That's exactly right. I mean.
- 39:28Speaker 1: And the fact that a BP at Marulan, which is
- 39:30Speaker 1: on the HIM Highway, has one fucking charger on each
- 39:33Speaker 1: side of the highway, what the hell like, that's insanity.
- 39:36Speaker 1: So we've just got a long way to go before
- 39:38Speaker 1: these companies BP are doing and Shell now they're doing it.
- 39:41Speaker 1: They're building charges.
- 39:42Speaker 2: Starting to but they're building two at.
- 39:44Speaker 1: A fucking time. Like folks build shitloads, you've got to build.
- 39:49Speaker 2: A reputation, man build them.
- 39:51Speaker 1: If you have a reputation for being the place to charge,
- 39:56Speaker 1: then you'll be the destination. That's what you've got to become.
- 39:58Speaker 1: I don't know. I think I think there's something wrong
- 40:00Speaker 1: with that. Part of the industry got a big way.
- 40:02Speaker 2: God, you got fired up with that, didn't you.
- 40:03Speaker 1: They get me started about charge Fox.
- 40:04Speaker 2: Can you get don't get me started at them? What
- 40:08Speaker 2: an absolute I told this story on Can you pass
- 40:12Speaker 2: me a piece of pizza? I feel like I'm going
- 40:13Speaker 2: to need to settle on my I can't believe the
- 40:15Speaker 2: pizzas in your end and you're not touching it.
- 40:17Speaker 1: I was going to I can't believe you put them on.
- 40:18Speaker 2: Mind you, this is a new Trevor Long and I'm
- 40:22Speaker 2: not luking it.
- 40:22Speaker 1: So about a year ago I stopped it at the
- 40:26Speaker 1: Supertar the fast charge of the charge Fox, thenner I
- 40:29Speaker 1: may charge Fox outside of gold and at the old Macasite,
- 40:32Speaker 1: the current Macro site.
- 40:33Speaker 2: The pepperoni on these pizzas remind me of Paul and Nipples.
- 40:35Speaker 1: Go on, wow, and it just wasn't working. There was
- 40:39Speaker 1: all this drama. It just wasn't working well. The app
- 40:41Speaker 1: wasn't right, and so on Instagram going this is stupid,
- 40:43Speaker 1: it's fucking outrageous, and charge Fox get your act together
- 40:46Speaker 1: or something. Now, only a few weeks earlier, we'd interviewed
- 40:48Speaker 1: someone from charge Fox on the show, and so they
- 40:51Speaker 1: emailed me and they go, mate, this is not We
- 40:54Speaker 1: explained to you in the interview that we don't run
- 40:56Speaker 1: the charges, we just run the network.
- 40:58Speaker 2: And I'm like, listen, hey, I'm back up. Did he
- 41:02Speaker 2: just give you the whole mate, I just work here kinda.
- 41:05Speaker 1: So they're NRMA charges that are on the charge Fox network, right,
- 41:10Speaker 1: And so their argument was it's nrma's fault. They're not
- 41:12Speaker 1: working and they're not upgraded or they're not maintained or whatever.
- 41:15Speaker 2: I'm sorry what name. I was like, who's fucking logo logo?
- 41:18Speaker 1: When charge Fox which using charge.
- 41:21Speaker 2: Fox And so we had this Yeah, that's what the
- 41:25Speaker 2: nazis said, buddy.
- 41:26Speaker 1: It doesn't matter if if someone is buying into the
- 41:29Speaker 1: charge Fox Network. It's as much their responsibility as the
- 41:32Speaker 1: you know, the site, the owner of the site, to
- 41:35Speaker 1: maintain the thing. And I think their reputation unfortunately has
- 41:38Speaker 1: not gone well for them because you go to like
- 41:41Speaker 1: they put again, this is a classic example, Golben. Anyone
- 41:44Speaker 1: in New South Wales knows. But you know, if you're
- 41:46Speaker 1: in Melbourne, think euro or a Shepperdon you know, big
- 41:49Speaker 1: place on the highway, Golban. So the charge Fox location
- 41:54Speaker 1: was a ship place on the outskirts of town, but
- 41:56Speaker 1: at least it was near a macket, so there was
- 41:58Speaker 1: somewhere across the road you go for a meal. The
- 42:00Speaker 1: Tesla location in the middle of town unbelievable, but only
- 42:02Speaker 1: for Tesla's. And then just on the outskirts of town
- 42:05Speaker 1: the other side, there's a fucking there's KFC, there's Red Rooster,
- 42:08Speaker 1: there's Macas. That's where you think this would be a
- 42:09Speaker 1: good spot.
- 42:10Speaker 2: So charge Fox the mechan of like of fast foods,
- 42:15Speaker 2: food outlets and Trevor's like, fucking what a place.
- 42:18Speaker 1: Stuff, that's charge stopping right, that's where the big service
- 42:21Speaker 1: station is.
- 42:21Speaker 2: Well, that's what that's exactly what that Golbin is a
- 42:24Speaker 2: brilliant toilet stop.
- 42:26Speaker 1: Yes, exactly, because fast food outlets so charge Fox or
- 42:30Speaker 1: I don't know who owns it because they run the network,
- 42:33Speaker 1: but someone and uses in charge. Fox Network puts a
- 42:35Speaker 1: charging pole in the KFC car park. It's a charging
- 42:38Speaker 1: pole with two fucking plugs on it that do I
- 42:40Speaker 1: don't know, fifty kilowatts and it's fucking goldban mate, Why
- 42:44Speaker 1: wouldn't you build six? And so what happens a year later?
- 42:48Speaker 1: Tesla builds twenty? And there's just I know that Tesla
- 42:52Speaker 1: is more expensive to charge than charge Fox or Evey,
- 42:55Speaker 1: but I'll pay the ten or twenty cents per killer
- 42:58Speaker 1: lot more every day of the week. So the simplicity
- 43:01Speaker 1: and speed of a Tesla super.
- 43:02Speaker 2: If I'm going to get a full charge on eighteen
- 43:04Speaker 2: minutes and it's going to cost me thirty bucks as
- 43:06Speaker 2: opposed to twenty two bucks for a fucking one and
- 43:10Speaker 2: a half hours, I'll tell you where I'm going.
- 43:13Speaker 1: Every day of the week.
- 43:14Speaker 2: What's it the deal with this EV tax? Can you
- 43:16Speaker 2: put me across this? Because for me, I don't see
- 43:18Speaker 2: what all the fuss is about, because I mean, we've
- 43:21Speaker 2: known about this for years and it sort of seems
- 43:23Speaker 2: like the thing that should happen anyway. So basically, if
- 43:27Speaker 2: you're an EV owner, you're now going to basically get
- 43:30Speaker 2: tax for using the roads.
- 43:31Speaker 1: That's right. So you know you're an EV owner, you're
- 43:32Speaker 1: not paying for petrol, so therefore you're not paying the
- 43:34Speaker 1: fuel excise.
- 43:35Speaker 2: But just like a petrol car user is getting tax
- 43:38Speaker 2: to use the roads.
- 43:38Speaker 1: Sparasn right, and so in Victoria they implemented this a
- 43:41Speaker 1: couple of years ago. So and the EV owners of
- 43:44Speaker 1: course took them to court because they're being stuck up
- 43:47Speaker 1: EV owners who think that they should have entitlements that
- 43:49Speaker 1: they don't.
- 43:50Speaker 2: Right, you were stuck up Evan. You've got two of
- 43:52Speaker 2: them too, of them.
- 43:53Speaker 1: But I'm realistic. I think of myself more as a
- 43:55Speaker 1: business person than the stuck up EV I know, who goes,
- 43:58Speaker 1: how's the government going to do? The numbers here? They're
- 44:00Speaker 1: making like seventy to twenty billion dollars a year out
- 44:03Speaker 1: of fuel excise, and if we have more and more
- 44:04Speaker 1: and more evs, there's going to be billions and billions
- 44:07Speaker 1: of dollars missing from the budget. How's that going to
- 44:10Speaker 1: affect us? They're either going to put our fucking personal
- 44:12Speaker 1: tax up or something else is going to go on
- 44:13Speaker 1: right here, so they have to fill the hole in
- 44:15Speaker 1: the budget of course.
- 44:16Speaker 2: Right of course, having said that, I think if they're
- 44:19Speaker 2: going to pay tax on it, they need to come
- 44:21Speaker 2: up with and they're going to put in The Australian
- 44:23Speaker 2: government are going to put their logo on charges, fucking
- 44:25Speaker 2: make sure they work. Well, that's true.
- 44:27Speaker 1: If the government's going to put their logo on things,
- 44:30Speaker 1: there should be a requirement for uptime and all that
- 44:32Speaker 1: kind of stuff. But how do you penalize the charge
- 44:34Speaker 1: and itworks for that you're just penalizing the based on uptime.
- 44:37Speaker 1: That doesn't help the people that came across the charger
- 44:39Speaker 1: at the wrong time. You don't get a compensation for.
- 44:40Speaker 2: You never get hold responsible for it. But it's like
- 44:44Speaker 2: it's the reputation. You can ask anyone who's too scared
- 44:47Speaker 2: to jump in and buy an EV these days, they'll
- 44:50Speaker 2: all say, ah, look, I don't know, like don't know
- 44:52Speaker 2: about the charging. I don't think we're still we're quite ready,
- 44:55Speaker 2: which I don't if you're about it, I'm still fifty
- 44:58Speaker 2: percent fascinating.
- 44:59Speaker 1: Thing about the Melbourne thing was got overturned by the courts,
- 45:02Speaker 1: right I don't know which court, Supreme Court or something
- 45:04Speaker 1: like that, right, And what's really interesting. I spoke to
- 45:06Speaker 1: someone in government in New South Wales who said at
- 45:08Speaker 1: the time it's actually a really interesting ruling because it
- 45:12Speaker 1: basically says the ruling broadly says that a state can't
- 45:15Speaker 1: impose this level of tax on its citizens. It's just
- 45:19Speaker 1: not entitled to. So it actually draws into question things
- 45:21Speaker 1: like stamp duty and all that kind of stuff if
- 45:23Speaker 1: you actually dug into it. But what they realized was
- 45:25Speaker 1: we can't do it at a state levels. So now
- 45:26Speaker 1: the states are saying the federal government needs to do it.
- 45:28Speaker 1: So the idea is the federal government institute's a law.
- 45:31Speaker 1: I assume the states will run it through registration. We'll
- 45:35Speaker 1: have to say how many CA's we've done, and we'll
- 45:37Speaker 1: pay it. I don't give a shit because four hundred
- 45:39Speaker 1: dollars a year or whatever it's going to be, it's
- 45:41Speaker 1: still cheaper than running a petrol car. Right, So if
- 45:43Speaker 1: you're complaining about as an EV owner, you're actually you're
- 45:46Speaker 1: out of touch. Right. But here's my solution. Buck off
- 45:50Speaker 1: the fuel excise, drop the price of petrol by fifty
- 45:52Speaker 1: two cents, and make everyone pay a road user charge.
- 45:56Speaker 2: Yeah, but you know, if they did that, like the
- 45:59Speaker 2: whole EV thing wouldn't be as attractive anymore.
- 46:02Speaker 1: No, but it's just neutralizing that as a cost. Everything
- 46:05Speaker 1: else stays the same. For EV drivers, they're cheap it
- 46:07Speaker 1: to maintain, cheaper to run, cheaper to feel. But a
- 46:10Speaker 1: petrol car owner can choose to drive less and potentially
- 46:13Speaker 1: pay less in this road usage tax. But it's also
- 46:17Speaker 1: neutralized so that over time the budget stays the same
- 46:21Speaker 1: based on road usage. It's not one tax and another tax.
- 46:24Speaker 1: It's just one big tax for everyone.
- 46:26Speaker 2: I don't think like necessarily owning an EV. Well, it
- 46:29Speaker 2: can be cheaper, yes, depending on how you use your EV.
- 46:33Speaker 2: If you're charging at home and you're doing it on
- 46:35Speaker 2: peak hours, fine, fine, fine, And obviously like you've got
- 46:37Speaker 2: to maintain a petrol car and that's fucking expensive. I
- 46:40Speaker 2: get that, but I don't know. Me and Paul have
- 46:42Speaker 2: always talked about this Atlanta, and they always seem at
- 46:45Speaker 2: the moment just to be fifty to fifty.
- 46:47Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm pretty confident we're saving three grand a year
- 46:50Speaker 1: on the KEYA versus the EV nine versus the Carnival.
- 46:53Speaker 1: Now we are charging at home a lot more often
- 46:55Speaker 1: than not. But if I look at a trip to
- 46:57Speaker 1: the country and I go, if i'd paid for petral,
- 47:00Speaker 1: you know, full tank is going to be one hundred
- 47:02Speaker 1: plus dollars, and it was thirty five forty on the
- 47:05Speaker 1: on the Tesla charger. So I've always said that charging
- 47:08Speaker 1: an EV is thirty to forty percent the cost of
- 47:12Speaker 1: filling a petrol car. So just on usage, there's no
- 47:15Speaker 1: doubt that it's cheaper to run an electric car. And
- 47:17Speaker 1: if you're really smart by you know, getting you go
- 47:20Speaker 1: to an electricity company with eight cent overnight charging and
- 47:23Speaker 1: all that kind of stuff, you can absolutely bring the
- 47:25Speaker 1: cost of owning an EV down. So if it is
- 47:27Speaker 1: an issue for you, there are very smart things you
- 47:30Speaker 1: can do to make it genuinely cheaper.
- 47:32Speaker 2: You know what they should get rid of the luxury
- 47:34Speaker 2: car tax, like especially the import luxury car tax.
- 47:39Speaker 1: Especially if we don't have any local industry.
- 47:41Speaker 2: We don't have a local market we protect. We don't
- 47:43Speaker 2: have a local car market. That's what it was there for,
- 47:45Speaker 2: was to protect your forward and your holdings and all
- 47:48Speaker 2: that sort of.
- 47:48Speaker 1: Stuff happened, We'll buy a Caprice instead of a BMW.
- 47:51Speaker 1: But there's no such thing anymore.
- 47:52Speaker 2: No, it's it's wild like it's it actually you look
- 47:56Speaker 2: at say I'm in the market to try and get
- 47:58Speaker 2: an old Porsche, right, so much cheaper in New Zealand,
- 48:02Speaker 2: and yeah, my god, there's so much cheaper on the
- 48:05Speaker 2: scheme of things. Say they were say whatever I was
- 48:08Speaker 2: looking at would be eighty grand here, model dependent. But
- 48:11Speaker 2: say if I'm looking about eighty grand here, that would
- 48:13Speaker 2: be about sixty over there. Having said that, by the
- 48:16Speaker 2: time I get it over, which you wouldn't think would
- 48:18Speaker 2: be this much, But it's anywhere between six and end
- 48:21Speaker 2: grand to get it over.
- 48:23Speaker 1: Taxes when you're landed here.
- 48:25Speaker 2: Yeah, taxes, transportation. Yeah, plus you pay the person extra
- 48:29Speaker 2: to do all the paperwork and fucking stuff around it.
- 48:33Speaker 2: Just I just don't get it. I don't get why
- 48:36Speaker 2: it's so goddamn expensive to import a car. It's it's wild.
- 48:40Speaker 1: It's very niche. I guess it's not probably a very
- 48:42Speaker 1: big priority for the government. It's just but the luxury
- 48:45Speaker 1: car tax is definitely something you need assessing. My taxes
- 48:47Speaker 1: generally need assessing. That's the biggest problem we've got in Australia.
- 48:50Speaker 1: It's just weird. Tax system.
- 48:51Speaker 2: In my view, I've run out of pizza.
- 48:54Speaker 1: Oh you haven't really done the whole pizza of you.
- 48:56Speaker 2: What else are we? What else are we going to
- 48:58Speaker 2: bring out?
- 48:58Speaker 1: We know we were going to mention the story that's
- 49:00Speaker 1: been around a little while. How old was that Australian
- 49:02Speaker 1: Automotive Association doing an analysis of the range on an
- 49:07Speaker 1: electric vehicles. So they found like a BYD that had
- 49:10Speaker 1: a stated range of I don't know when iver caught
- 49:12Speaker 1: four hundred k's it was like twenty percent less in
- 49:14Speaker 1: their real world testing. I think the Smart three was
- 49:18Speaker 1: not that bad, but it was still under and so
- 49:20Speaker 1: their basic claim in the headlines in the media was
- 49:23Speaker 1: EV's not living up to the advertised range. And I
- 49:26Speaker 1: think it's a great story because it's good analysis, but
- 49:29Speaker 1: it's just proof that we need education. We need to
- 49:31Speaker 1: educate people. The range is a variable. Range is really
- 49:34Speaker 1: a comparative tool. So if you're shopping for elite motor
- 49:37Speaker 1: versus a depower versus an MG at a price point,
- 49:40Speaker 1: you can absolutely look at and the go, well, this
- 49:42Speaker 1: one's got more range. It definitely has more range on
- 49:45Speaker 1: a comparison basis, because if one says it's got a
- 49:48Speaker 1: bigger battery and a better range. It's going to have
- 49:50Speaker 1: a better range than that other one. However, when you
- 49:52Speaker 1: sit in the car and drive it, you're never going
- 49:55Speaker 1: to achieve Like Mike Evin nine has a five hundred
- 49:57Speaker 1: and eleven K range. It doesn't achieve five hundred eleven K.
- 50:01Speaker 2: Have you ever got over four to fifty in that?
- 50:03Speaker 1: No? No, it normally gets six hundred. Oh fuck because
- 50:06Speaker 1: it drives around fucking town.
- 50:08Speaker 2: It goes to the shops and back.
- 50:09Speaker 1: I don't take it anywhere. My wife drives it, and
- 50:11Speaker 1: an EV around town is sick.
- 50:13Speaker 2: So when shit, yeah, that's what they're great for.
- 50:16Speaker 1: So when change understated by the way she.
- 50:18Speaker 2: Fully charges that thing, is that going to six comes up?
- 50:20Speaker 1: It says sometimes it's got six hundred k's range because
- 50:23Speaker 1: it uses the smarts of what it's been driving, not
- 50:25Speaker 1: what the manufacturer said. Whereas if I take the fucking
- 50:28Speaker 1: g Wagon to young it says maximum range four hundred
- 50:33Speaker 1: and one, minimum range three hundred and twenty six, And
- 50:36Speaker 1: I'm like, I don't even think it got three twenty six.
- 50:38Speaker 1: I think it was probably less than that. But you've
- 50:40Speaker 1: got to know when you're buying an EV that it's
- 50:42Speaker 1: going to be dependent on what you do and how
- 50:44Speaker 1: you drive it.
- 50:45Speaker 2: No, here's my argument against that. Right, if you're going
- 50:48Speaker 2: to drive an EV, you've got to know that it's
- 50:50Speaker 2: not going to reach the kilometers it's advertised.
- 50:53Speaker 1: For on which drive? Well, just are you assuming everyone's
- 50:56Speaker 1: taking it on a freeway?
- 50:57Speaker 2: Well, because that's the only.
- 50:58Speaker 1: Time it won't reach its goal is if you're driving
- 51:01Speaker 1: a lot of freeways. That's highly inefficient in electric cars.
- 51:05Speaker 2: Well, nah, disagree. I mean I'm sort of driving ten
- 51:08Speaker 2: minutes to work, twenty minutes to pick up my kid.
- 51:11Speaker 2: That sort of staff that MG five s that's advertised
- 51:15Speaker 2: is about four forty right, I'm getting about three eighty
- 51:19Speaker 2: filling that thing.
- 51:20Speaker 1: Ah yeah.
- 51:21Speaker 2: I just feel like as a normal consumer and you're
- 51:24Speaker 2: going to realize we're car guys, you know what I mean? No,
- 51:26Speaker 2: one hundred percent.
- 51:27Speaker 1: So it's the biggest question we get on our EV
- 51:30Speaker 1: show is just people going, I'm worried about the range
- 51:32Speaker 1: and you've got to you've got to tell people, Hey,
- 51:34Speaker 1: breaking news, whatever you think it's going to have assume
- 51:37Speaker 1: less by the way, in winter, fucking even less because
- 51:40Speaker 1: cold effects batteries and range and then driving It used
- 51:44Speaker 1: to be that you take your petrol car on the freeway,
- 51:46Speaker 1: you get fucking really good fuel economy, But in an
- 51:48Speaker 1: electric car, it's the worst thing you can.
- 51:50Speaker 2: Do, the opposite.
- 51:51Speaker 1: Yes, So people don't know that. So this is the
- 51:53Speaker 1: thing we've got to educate people. Dealerships are not trying
- 51:56Speaker 1: to educate people.
- 51:57Speaker 2: Well, then going to if like if you're the average
- 52:00Speaker 2: person thinks that they're going to go a better sell
- 52:04Speaker 2: right for a car. Here's my new EV one, right,
- 52:08Speaker 2: it's shiny, it's beautiful, it's forty five thousand dollars, and
- 52:11Speaker 2: I'll get a forty I'll get four hundred and forty
- 52:14Speaker 2: kilometers of range in it. That that's the cell. But
- 52:17Speaker 2: when you drive that, you're like, ah, I'm only getting
- 52:20Speaker 2: like three point fifty What the fuck.
- 52:21Speaker 1: There's a sticker on the on the window that says
- 52:23Speaker 1: that too. But here's my counter to that whole fucking story.
- 52:27Speaker 1: My key of Carnival that we bought before the even nights,
- 52:29Speaker 1: we had it for four or five years, had a
- 52:31Speaker 1: stick we had still had the sticker on it, you know,
- 52:33Speaker 1: the fuel economy stick was still on the fucking thing
- 52:34Speaker 1: after five years. I'd never take them off.
- 52:36Speaker 2: Oh, that's embarrassed.
- 52:36Speaker 1: Eleven point six was the claim fuel economy. I didn't
- 52:39Speaker 1: reset the trip meter from birth, so at the end
- 52:43Speaker 1: of its life having driven, I don't know. I think
- 52:45Speaker 1: it was one hundred thousand k's something. Fourteen point six
- 52:48Speaker 1: was its fuel economy. Yeah, that's why it never came close.
- 52:51Speaker 1: By the way, fourteen.
- 52:52Speaker 2: Point six is massive. I was doing less in a
- 52:56Speaker 2: Chevy silver Rider because.
- 52:57Speaker 1: My wife just drives to the shops and to the
- 53:00Speaker 1: fucking pick the kids up at school. It doesn't it
- 53:01Speaker 1: doesn't get opened up, whereas I if I took it
- 53:04Speaker 1: on the highway, it might do nine on the highway,
- 53:07Speaker 1: which is awesome and under the stated fuel economy. But
- 53:10Speaker 1: I would challenge motoring journals of Australia to say, how
- 53:13Speaker 1: many cars have you driven that you find fuel economy
- 53:17Speaker 1: wise come under the stated fuel economy. But it's not
- 53:20Speaker 1: a headline. It's not a headline unless it's diesel gate. Well,
- 53:23Speaker 1: it's not a headline that cars petrol cars are not sorry,
- 53:27Speaker 1: are consuming more petrol than was predicted, so therefore their
- 53:31Speaker 1: range is lower than was expected.
- 53:33Speaker 2: Well, we've got used to that over time. This is
- 53:36Speaker 2: a new thing. It's evs, We're going to bash the
- 53:38Speaker 2: shit out.
- 53:38Speaker 1: That's all I'm saying is it's a fucking great headline.
- 53:42Speaker 1: So I agree it's a problem and we need to
- 53:45Speaker 1: educate people, but I think it was a really good headline.
- 53:48Speaker 2: Safety features on cars now, I would strongly argue that
- 53:54Speaker 2: they are anything but safe, and I want to know
- 53:58Speaker 2: scary sometimes. I'd love to know from whoever it is.
- 54:01Speaker 2: When you get the A CAP safety rating, what the
- 54:05Speaker 2: fuck is actually going on? Because if you're if you're
- 54:10Speaker 2: advertising in car, is that this has got a five
- 54:12Speaker 2: cap start, five star and CAP safety rating because it's
- 54:16Speaker 2: got lane departure assist and speed exceeding the speeding limit
- 54:21Speaker 2: and an alarm for this and a bing for that
- 54:23Speaker 2: and a bong for that. Blah blah blah blah blah.
- 54:25Speaker 2: When you're driving and all this shit is going off.
- 54:27Speaker 2: And this is probably one of the worst things about
- 54:30Speaker 2: the Chinese EV's that are coming in. They are notorious
- 54:33Speaker 2: for it. They are the worst at it and.
- 54:36Speaker 1: The worst at it, and they're the worst to find
- 54:38Speaker 1: the setting, which makes it even more distracting just to
- 54:40Speaker 1: go looking through the menu while you're trying to turn
- 54:42Speaker 1: the fucking thing off.
- 54:43Speaker 2: And you're trying to fucking drive. Yes, right, it's it's
- 54:45Speaker 2: absolutely stupid.
- 54:47Speaker 1: I'm offender that most cars. When I'm singing Billy Joel
- 54:50Speaker 1: loudly on my own in the car, it thinks I'm yawning.
- 54:52Speaker 1: Come on, guys, I'm not tired. I'm excited. That's that's
- 54:55Speaker 1: the car. Because China is listening to us. That's them slowly.
- 54:58Speaker 2: Dying and then hearing Trev like singing like some sort
- 55:02Speaker 2: of constipated dinosaur, as it should be. Yeah, yes, take
- 55:06Speaker 2: this China. What is it something pussy Cat? What's new
- 55:12Speaker 2: pussy What's new pussy Cat? Oh? All that? But yeah,
- 55:19Speaker 2: it's a.
- 55:19Speaker 1: Great way to round out the show.
- 55:21Speaker 2: Well, it's very it's very similar to yours. No, but yeah,
- 55:24Speaker 2: here's the thing I'd say, the safety systems on these cars.
- 55:28Speaker 1: Just it's frustrating. Diabolic motor again going back to oh yeah,
- 55:33Speaker 1: it's lane keeper was just so persistent and it was like, dude,
- 55:36Speaker 1: I don't I need lane keep when I'm leaving the
- 55:38Speaker 1: lane problematically, But when I'm just on the M two,
- 55:41Speaker 1: let me fucking choose where I want to be in
- 55:42Speaker 1: the lane.
- 55:43Speaker 2: And also like when it's saying concentrate on the road.
- 55:45Speaker 2: And it's saying that over and over and over again.
- 55:47Speaker 2: It's like, mate, I am concentrating on the road. You're
- 55:49Speaker 2: making me lose my concentration because you big big me.
- 55:53Speaker 1: My kids, my kids love the fact that I get
- 55:55Speaker 1: frustrated because it brings at me and I'm going, fucking,
- 55:57Speaker 1: why are you binging?
- 55:58Speaker 2: I don't even know why?
- 55:58Speaker 1: Now. Yeah, some are very obvious. It says you're tired,
- 56:01Speaker 1: you're doing whatever. But other cars just go being being
- 56:03Speaker 1: and I'm like, I missed the red light? What was it?
- 56:06Speaker 1: What was it binging for?
- 56:08Speaker 2: It's look, it's I think they do more harm.
- 56:10Speaker 1: Ye, And I think I think that I think the
- 56:13Speaker 1: needle on that will swing backwards because they're all realizing
- 56:16Speaker 1: it through software updates and stuff. And I think what
- 56:18Speaker 1: they're doing is they're getting another cars and going, oh,
- 56:20Speaker 1: you can do it, but a bit more subtly. It
- 56:22Speaker 1: doesn't need to be as annoying. It can just be
- 56:24Speaker 1: a little pop up message and all that kind of stuff.
- 56:26Speaker 1: So I think they're all going to learn from each
- 56:28Speaker 1: other which ways things are possible. And like Kia, you know,
- 56:31Speaker 1: it was frustrating to me that we had the speed
- 56:34Speaker 1: of chime a lart and my wife's on the phone
- 56:35Speaker 1: in the car and I can hear the beeping. I'm like, bait,
- 56:38Speaker 1: stop speeding. If you're not going to mute it, stop speeding.
- 56:40Speaker 1: Because they implemented a software update where you push and
- 56:43Speaker 1: hold the mute button and it turns off the speed function. Perfect.
- 56:46Speaker 1: So whenever I get in the Kia, the first thing
- 56:48Speaker 1: I did before I reverse out of the driveway is
- 56:50Speaker 1: I turn that off.
- 56:51Speaker 2: I mean, that's fine. Actually that's the one thing. The
- 56:53Speaker 2: MG that I'm driving was giving me the shit at
- 56:56Speaker 2: the start, right. It was saying, yeah, focus on the
- 57:00Speaker 2: focus on the road, and it was only doing it,
- 57:02Speaker 2: funny enough when I was taking a phone call in
- 57:04Speaker 2: the car. Obviously not on my phone, but like it was.
- 57:07Speaker 2: It was really doing it. And then I spoke to
- 57:10Speaker 2: MG and they said, yeah, whatever you want to turn off,
- 57:13Speaker 2: the customize the it's the starbut on the steering wheel, right,
- 57:18Speaker 2: So once you can customize that. So once you push that,
- 57:21Speaker 2: you choose what you want to turn off. And I
- 57:23Speaker 2: still want to keep the speed warning on there. I
- 57:25Speaker 2: still want to keep like emergency this on there, but
- 57:29Speaker 2: I want to turn off the sleep stuff and the
- 57:31Speaker 2: bloody concentrate on the road crap, and so yeah, it's
- 57:35Speaker 2: that's to me, that's one of the great things.
- 57:37Speaker 1: In the defense of all those safety systems. I am
- 57:40Speaker 1: technologically blown away by how accurate they are. I disagree
- 57:44Speaker 1: the fact that they can mate if I if I
- 57:46Speaker 1: am tired, it's it knows that they're not. But if
- 57:48Speaker 1: I am not looking at the road, it knows it.
- 57:50Speaker 1: I think it's amazing that they've nailed that. I just
- 57:53Speaker 1: think the implementation of the warning is fucking her end.
- 57:57Speaker 2: Yeah I didn't. I didn't think so at all. I
- 57:58Speaker 2: don't think they know when I'm tired. It's gone off
- 58:00Speaker 2: a lot of the time. When I'm not. When you
- 58:03Speaker 2: look at the speed half the time, it's fucking sha
- 58:05Speaker 2: Like you go from say here, go over the bridge,
- 58:08Speaker 2: which is a five minute drive, right, it thinks it's
- 58:11Speaker 2: it's hit three different four different speeds. It's like it
- 58:14Speaker 2: still hasn't registered. And no, no, this is not a
- 58:17Speaker 2: twenty twenty k zoning.
- 58:19Speaker 1: Ones the ones that automatically break down to another speed
- 58:22Speaker 1: when it's passes a speed sign and you're on a motorway,
- 58:26Speaker 1: you're going one hundred and you drive past an off
- 58:29Speaker 1: ramp and it says seventy for the off ram and
- 58:31Speaker 1: he goes, oh, it's seventy and fucking You're like, dude,
- 58:33Speaker 1: does it which ones? I can't remember which one that was,
- 58:36Speaker 1: but it happened to me once, and I'm like, holy shit.
- 58:39Speaker 1: It was because I was in cruise control, so it
- 58:41Speaker 1: was like he was trying to automatically adjust to the cruise.
- 58:44Speaker 1: I'm like, dude, what the fuck are you doing? Yeah,
- 58:46Speaker 1: and by the way, just a shit cantesla quickly at
- 58:48Speaker 1: the end. In that uber that I was in the
- 58:50Speaker 1: other day driving out to more Bank, I was sleeping
- 58:53Speaker 1: in the back. Was a fucking hour drive and it's
- 58:56Speaker 1: fantom breaked twice on the seven.
- 58:58Speaker 2: What do you mean?
- 58:59Speaker 1: So he's just driving long at eighty and it think
- 59:01Speaker 1: just goes to break because it detects something that it
- 59:03Speaker 1: thinks is going to be a problem, and it's just bullshit.
- 59:05Speaker 1: It's not a real problem. Oh God, fantom breaking, mate,
- 59:08Speaker 1: Oh that's the word. Bike didn't even apologize either. I
- 59:11Speaker 1: was very four stars to that bloke.
- 59:13Speaker 2: That happened to us once. In my wife's volvo. It
- 59:16Speaker 2: fucking just breaked, and I'm like, what the fuck and
- 59:18Speaker 2: the steering wheel. I'm sorry.
- 59:19Speaker 1: The seatbelt.
- 59:20Speaker 2: The seatbelts like lock back, and it's scarce.
- 59:22Speaker 1: The shit out in the road coming into our kind
- 59:25Speaker 1: of suburb has it's like fifty ks an hour, but
- 59:27Speaker 1: has a slight turning and along the road there's parking
- 59:30Speaker 1: all the way for people to who live there, right,
- 59:31Speaker 1: and there's always these cars on the out what would
- 59:33Speaker 1: be the outside of the turn, and it sets off
- 59:36Speaker 1: fifty percent of cars forward collision at no, no, mate, I'm turning.
- 59:40Speaker 1: It's the fucking road. It's okay, Relax, I'm turning the
- 59:43Speaker 1: fucking corner.
- 59:44Speaker 2: Relax. We we've got along terribly well in this episode
- 59:51Speaker 2: and it's going to piss a lot of people off.
- 59:54Speaker 1: And oh, that's right, we had beef. Sorry, I've forgotten
- 59:56Speaker 1: that we were meant to have beef.
- 59:57Speaker 2: Yeah, well, I blame you. You know what it is. It's
- 59:59Speaker 2: because you're skinny now, and I find you quite good
- 1:00:01Speaker 2: looking at it.
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: And I'll come back in another six months and see
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: if we've actually made some progress on that.
- 1:00:06Speaker 2: Hey, let's let's get to a couple of questions. When
- 1:00:09Speaker 2: is the merch coming out? And how do I get it?
- 1:00:12Speaker 2: Regards Dan W.
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: W W dot shit merch dot com.
- 1:00:18Speaker 2: Shut up. You know what my favorite? Do you know
- 1:00:21Speaker 2: what I've actually like? I remember when you do come
- 1:00:25Speaker 2: on here, I'm always like straight on your but I thought,
- 1:00:28Speaker 2: you know what, I'm just gonna let you talk today.
- 1:00:32Speaker 2: I'm just gonna let you go. I've had a hard
- 1:00:34Speaker 2: day on the on the ones, and yeah, I've had
- 1:00:38Speaker 2: to talk about Justin Bieber and I've really had to
- 1:00:40Speaker 2: talk about Taylor Swift.
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: Remember the sticky you gave me, You gave me one
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: of your drivers show stickers. Yeah, I've still got that.
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: It's stuck on the lid of the bin out in
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: the front of the office. We've got a big commercial
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: bin and it's every time I put something in the bin,
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: there's you're poorly fuck you, I'll send you.
- 1:00:58Speaker 2: Gave me a you gave me ATM hat once and unfortunately,
- 1:01:02Speaker 2: I bloody love that hat. And this was when I
- 1:01:06Speaker 2: was living in quite a posh area with a country club.
- 1:01:08Speaker 2: I wore it to the country club gym and I
- 1:01:11Speaker 2: left it on the beach scene.
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: Which one the one with the stripe or the ones
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: with the logo on the side, the.
- 1:01:15Speaker 2: Black one, Yeah, it was the one with the logo
- 1:01:17Speaker 2: on the side. It was the classic one. I'd like
- 1:01:19Speaker 2: one because like I fucking went to have a shower
- 1:01:22Speaker 2: and I came back in some old bastard had taken
- 1:01:24Speaker 2: my e DM.
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: Man, he's a big fan the FtM. But that's okay whatever,
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: he's a big fan that. What is atm f TM
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: Everything for the Man?
- 1:01:31Speaker 2: Is that what it is?
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: That's what reason I stood for you?
- 1:01:33Speaker 2: Is that? Are you trying to do like a fucking
- 1:01:36Speaker 2: man show, Jimmy Kimmel.
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: No, No, it was just it was the idea was
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: that it was you know, there was so much women's
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: content on the internet, Mum and mirr and all that.
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: There was no.
- 1:01:45Speaker 2: You're going to be the mail being freeman just teching
- 1:01:49Speaker 2: cars made sense. Everything for the Man? Welcome to what's
- 1:01:52Speaker 2: the next fucking question?
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: I want to go home. Everything, man, my wife's calling me.
- 1:01:56Speaker 2: Everything Everything for the Man sounds like a fucking website.
- 1:01:59Speaker 2: I do not want to visit. Okay, here we go.
- 1:02:02Speaker 2: Should we be pushing hybrid cars before ev seeing as
- 1:02:05Speaker 2: we don't have infrastructure for charging them? Well, thank you
- 1:02:09Speaker 2: for that, Doug WOOKI we kind of. That's actually an
- 1:02:13Speaker 2: interesting question. That's a great point, given that we've shadowing
- 1:02:17Speaker 2: a lot of the infrastructure.
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: Of anyone that says that they do a lot of
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: driving a lot of a lot of kilometers in terms
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: of rural driving and stuff. Yeah, hybrid is definitely going
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: to be a better option. And by the way, the
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: plug in hybrids are a brilliant option because you get
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: to have the full EV experience at home around town,
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: but you've got the benefit of range.
- 1:02:33Speaker 2: No, they're making way better plug in hybrids now than
- 1:02:37Speaker 2: they work like two years.
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: So byd shark going like, see so many of them
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: on the road and the country. The JQ that I'm driving, like,
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: it's got that benefit of being an EV around town,
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: but it's a fucking a thousand commoners range. It's so good.
- 1:02:49Speaker 2: The key is and the Bloody Yandais are making some
- 1:02:52Speaker 2: great hybrids, some really good ones. When we're Donna and
- 1:02:56Speaker 2: ham Hamburger warmers, be back on who's Trevor Long again.
- 1:03:04Speaker 2: That's a good one. Thank you for that one. Yeah,
- 1:03:07Speaker 2: Donna and Hamburger warmers. That's a joke because I don't
- 1:03:12Speaker 2: worry use she warms at Hamburgers in spots wible a
- 1:03:17Speaker 2: good gear anyway. I just I prefer those questions. To
- 1:03:21Speaker 2: be honest, I'm not going into any of the fucking
- 1:03:23Speaker 2: We'll leave those for Paul. Wow.
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: Yeah, when Paul bothers to come back.
- 1:03:28Speaker 2: Actually he's on next app he'll be back next up.
- 1:03:31Speaker 2: I know his name's on the fucking billboard and he's
- 1:03:33Speaker 2: been too busy traveling.
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: Update the billboards. That's all I'm saying.
- 1:03:37Speaker 2: He's, uh, what for you?
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: Just for the show?
- 1:03:40Speaker 2: Actually, once upon a time you wouldn't have fitted. But
- 1:03:42Speaker 2: now some sort of like filter on.
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: Your photo show to put myself over that? Yeah, yeah,
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: really pissed Paul off.
- 1:03:49Speaker 2: Well look a look at Look how fucking white I'm
- 1:03:52Speaker 2: looking these days. Look at that? I look like like
- 1:03:55Speaker 2: Donna's left hit.
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: Yeah, there's a bit of tan going on there. That's
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: fake tan.
- 1:03:59Speaker 2: No, No, I had a real time there.
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: Really.
- 1:04:01Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I did get my first fake tan.
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: I love that Paul's laughing at you in the photo too.
- 1:04:06Speaker 2: Fun. Fact, they're two different photos. I can see that,
- 1:04:09Speaker 2: all right, they're fucking photo.
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: Paul called dead taking a photo with you?
- 1:04:13Speaker 2: Yes, he would would. I reckon if I booked in
- 1:04:16Speaker 2: like a proper photo.
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: Shoot, does Paul do this show?
- 1:04:19Speaker 2: You would be surprised.
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: Why does Paul do this show? Because it's it's that's
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: the question that keeps coming up on Instagram.
- 1:04:25Speaker 2: No, it doesn't. This is a reputable car program. This
- 1:04:29Speaker 2: is absolutely it's better than fucking two idiots and a navy.
- 1:04:34Speaker 2: Is that guy what's his name?
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: Finnick Stephen?
- 1:04:37Speaker 2: Yeah, he's good guy. He's actually a good guy. I
- 1:04:40Speaker 2: don't know why he hangs out with you.
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: Money probably is not related at all.
- 1:04:48Speaker 2: They're not related at all. They do look alike.
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: They're phoenix, they're multice I guess that's the only women, right.
- 1:04:54Speaker 2: Oh there gays your little you know you. Probably everyone
- 1:04:58Speaker 2: probably thought, oh fuck, he's like he's hanging out with
- 1:05:00Speaker 2: Jeff Fenix brother. That's cool.
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: Most people think it's pretty cool that he's Maria or
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: Frenix brother in his own right. He did play for
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: South Sydney as well.
- 1:05:07Speaker 2: Stephen, So yeah, there's that, but it's not it's called
- 1:05:10Speaker 2: as Jeffick h Murray. Yeah, that's fuck Maria.
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: Wow there it is a visual well a, it's been
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: great hanging out with you. Can I go now?
- 1:05:20Speaker 2: No? I want to I want to talk to you
- 1:05:21Speaker 2: just two more minutes.
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: My wife wants me home put her on, No, no,
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: she just you.
- 1:05:27Speaker 2: Get the whole When are you coming home?
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 1:05:29Speaker 2: How far does it? How long does it take to
- 1:05:30Speaker 2: drive home?
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: I reckon twenty five minutes at this time of night.
- 1:05:32Speaker 2: There you get.
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: It's all a good time.
- 1:05:35Speaker 2: What are you driving that? Or what are you going
- 1:05:36Speaker 2: to be driving that you're really excited about before we go?
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: Ummm, Once you've had like a round thousand dollars g wagon,
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: it's pretty hard to find the next exciting thing. So yeah,
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: it's all a bit downhill from here.
- 1:05:48Speaker 2: Do you know what? I jumped into Masda m X
- 1:05:49Speaker 2: five the other day. Shout out to the lovely Focused
- 1:05:52Speaker 2: Subtle and Masda who just contacted me and said, hey,
- 1:05:54Speaker 2: do you want an m X five for the for
- 1:05:56Speaker 2: the week And it's like the special edition sp blah
- 1:05:59Speaker 2: blah blah. Yeah right, I haven't jumped in a great car.
- 1:06:02Speaker 2: It's so good. But here's my thing, why would it?
- 1:06:04Speaker 2: And sorry to Sutherland Master and which, by the way,
- 1:06:07Speaker 2: you guys were one of the best dealers I've ever
- 1:06:09Speaker 2: walked into. Everyone's friendly, and I'm going to show its
- 1:06:12Speaker 2: a big difference. I'm going to shout them out because
- 1:06:15Speaker 2: those sorts of experiences are like far between. Anyway, why
- 1:06:19Speaker 2: would anyone buy a brand new Mazda MX five. Here's
- 1:06:24Speaker 2: my thing. It feels exactly like it did five years ago.
- 1:06:28Speaker 2: It hasn't changed much.
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: Which, by the way, when you just buy a five
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: year old one, yeah, because I mean like it's like
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: warranty maybe maybe car experience.
- 1:06:36Speaker 2: It feels exactly the same. And Geszu's saving a lot
- 1:06:39Speaker 2: of money if you do, like, you're saving a lot.
- 1:06:41Speaker 2: And by the way, the Apple car play on those
- 1:06:43Speaker 2: new ones, you've still got to control it through the
- 1:06:45Speaker 2: fucking wind.
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: Why, Well, that's the problem with it's a five year
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: old car, a new Masa with.
- 1:06:50Speaker 2: Touchscreen, you don't but but that's what I'm saying.
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: But it's like it's it's still an old model, like
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: they haven't actually updated yeah anything inside the car. It's
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: they're just fucking rolling the same thing off the production.
- 1:07:01Speaker 2: Yeah, well that's what's But you know, he's such a
- 1:07:03Speaker 2: fun engage.
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: Don't buy that car for touchscreen. You buy that car
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: for the windy roads and the fucking ride and handling it. Well,
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: that's a great car.
- 1:07:10Speaker 2: You turn all that ship off. Yeah, you know what's
- 1:07:12Speaker 2: still good is the bloody Toyota eighty six.
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: Yeah, fucking how the driver's car.
- 1:07:17Speaker 2: It's still great. It's such as there's such a good
- 1:07:20Speaker 2: reason why that's a cult car. It's I had a
- 1:07:23Speaker 2: mate of mine who's got a GT three RS, and
- 1:07:26Speaker 2: he said that Toyota eighty six that I had is
- 1:07:29Speaker 2: just as engaging. It's the only other car that's as
- 1:07:32Speaker 2: engaged his Porsche. That's a bit he's driven.
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: Yeah, in a manual mode, it would be yeah, yeah,
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: so much fun.
- 1:07:39Speaker 2: Great car.
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: That's what you get when you actually have someone who,
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: like a company, decides to build a car and refine
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: the drive that we go right back to the leap matter.
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: You just I'm not saying we can make it drive
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: like an eighty six. You need someone to go should
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: the suspension be different, Should we influence the steering in
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: some way? You know?
- 1:07:56Speaker 2: It needs hard to engineer. I reckon a lot of
- 1:07:58Speaker 2: these evs, like it's hard to get a road for They've.
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: Got the best fucking weight distribution possible because the battery
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: is low, it should be actually really good.
- 1:08:08Speaker 2: You look at a Ionic five N that is that
- 1:08:12Speaker 2: is probably one of the great that's the greatest EV
- 1:08:15Speaker 2: you can get it's and it's such a brilliant lesson
- 1:08:17Speaker 2: to anyone who is bringing out an EV because it's
- 1:08:21Speaker 2: so us. It just feels the road like nothing else.
- 1:08:25Speaker 2: For sure, it's fucking amazing. So nothing, nothing you're looking
- 1:08:28Speaker 2: forward to, all right, So.
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: I'm for every day in life, but yeah, I'm not
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: looking forward to returning the g wagon at this point.
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: Sad days.
