- 0:00Speaker 1: All right, Well, if you're having some trouble navigating the snow,
- 0:03Speaker 1: especially if you're someone with the disability, I know it's
- 0:06Speaker 1: snowing again. I mean the wind is a little bit
- 0:10Speaker 1: different than it was last time, but it's blizzarding out.
- 0:14Speaker 1: Let's just say what it is is blizzarding out. And
- 0:17Speaker 1: if you're having a tough time navigating the city, and
- 0:19Speaker 1: especially the transportation wing of New York City, the MTA,
- 0:25Speaker 1: then maybe you should do what I did and apply
- 0:29Speaker 1: to join the MTA Advisory Committee for Transit Accessibility. See
- 0:33Speaker 1: I'm gonna focus more on the adapting side of things
- 0:35Speaker 1: on this podcast moving on in the one Leg Up Network,
- 0:38Speaker 1: But for twenty six twenty seven, the MTA is searching
- 0:43Speaker 1: for new members to join the Advisory Committee for Transit
- 0:47Speaker 1: Accessibility ACTA, looking for members of the community who want
- 0:50Speaker 1: to advise the MTA on addressing riders accessibility needs, identifying
- 0:55Speaker 1: barriers across the transystem, recommending community informed improvements, and support
- 1:00Speaker 1: them with its Mission of Accessibility for All. So, using
- 1:04Speaker 1: these two snowstorms as a perfect example, if you don't
- 1:07Speaker 1: like the way they've been handling it for anybody that's
- 1:10Speaker 1: been commuting, let alone people with disabilities, but in this
- 1:14Speaker 1: genre specifically, then join the board. Apply to join. If
- 1:18Speaker 1: you are someone you know as interested, please do apply,
- 1:25Speaker 1: and I mention it now because applications are due March fourth,
- 1:28Speaker 1: which is a week from Wednesday. So you can also
- 1:33Speaker 1: go to the ACTA quarterly meetings which are open for all.
- 1:36Speaker 1: I'll have all these links in the description below. But yeah,
- 1:40Speaker 1: I mean navigating the snow for anybody is not easy.
- 1:44Speaker 1: Suspensions are happening across train lines and transit companies and
- 1:50Speaker 1: Jay Transit, MTA.
- 1:53Speaker 2: Through for this, through this, but but maybe.
- 1:58Speaker 1: If your voice is heard on this Advisory Committee for
- 2:01Speaker 1: trans Accessibility, that will help move things along, as they
- 2:07Speaker 1: like to say they like to move along eight million people. Well,
- 2:10Speaker 1: sometimes I do think people disabilities are overlooked and I've
- 2:13Speaker 1: seen it firsthand. And the way the elevators are way
- 2:18Speaker 1: down the platform or the way the boarding area is
- 2:22Speaker 1: also down the platform. I mean it's not always easy
- 2:26Speaker 1: for someone in a powerchair to do their own thing.
- 2:31Speaker 2: Or wheelchair for that matter.
- 2:33Speaker 1: So if you want to change that tune, then you
- 2:35Speaker 1: can apply to the Accessibility Committee for Advisory Committee for
- 2:45Speaker 1: Transit Accessibility. This might sound like a live read for
- 2:48Speaker 1: the MTA, but it's really not. It's a public service
- 2:52Speaker 1: information announcement for those that want to join the committee
- 2:56Speaker 1: and have a say and shape really how our exit
- 3:00Speaker 1: transit can be.
- 3:02Speaker 2: More accessible to those disabilities.
- 3:04Speaker 1: The other thing is why I applied is last year,
- 3:07Speaker 1: as you know, the Daily News about a month a
- 3:10Speaker 1: year and a month ago put me in for the
- 3:12Speaker 1: outbed about how fair affairs people with disabilities?
- 3:15Speaker 2: Well why not? I figure, why not apply and put
- 3:21Speaker 2: my resume in to really have a seed the table.
- 3:24Speaker 2: That's what it's about.
- 3:25Speaker 1: It's about if you want to talk a lot on
- 3:27Speaker 1: a podcast or on a YouTube channel, then talk to
- 3:30Speaker 1: the talk join the committee. I know this saying is
- 3:34Speaker 1: if you can't fight them, join them, but really, if
- 3:36Speaker 1: you join, and I feel like if I join this.
- 3:39Speaker 2: Committee, it will be.
- 3:44Speaker 1: Maybe a great way to collaborate and to fix and
- 3:47Speaker 1: shape and mold the way MTA should be more accessible winter, summer, fall,
- 3:52Speaker 1: spring for people with disabilities.
- 3:55Speaker 2: That's why I joined it, and maybe you can too.
- 3:57Speaker 1: March fourth. Applications are due. Description in the bio below
