- 1:41Speaker 3: As always, the pictures posted at Dave Island Radio on
- 1:45Speaker 3: Facebook and the WCCHS Network Facebook page, as well as
- 1:48Speaker 3: at Dave A seventy on x. We are going to
- 1:51Speaker 3: spend a little time talking about a celebration that is
- 1:53Speaker 3: going to be happening next week from Mountain State Spotlight
- 1:56Speaker 3: as they celebrate their fifth anniversary. And we got a
- 2:00Speaker 3: whole lot of other things we're gonna get into as well.
- 2:04Speaker 3: Right now, let's talk a little high school football, though.
- 2:06Speaker 3: Is Chris Lawrence Tom Bragg joined us in the studio.
- 2:08Speaker 3: Chris is, good morning. How are you good morning? I'm
- 2:11Speaker 3: doing fine. Before we get into high school football, I
- 2:13Speaker 3: do want to say that might be a good idea
- 2:17Speaker 3: for you because you need another dog in your life. Uh,
- 2:20Speaker 3: you need to go over to the Facebook page. Look
- 2:23Speaker 3: at our adoptment. Please put of the week. He's a
- 2:25Speaker 3: hound dog named Hank. Well, I already got one Hank
- 2:28Speaker 3: in the household as we can have. And okay, but
- 2:31Speaker 3: Hank two, yeah, Hank the third. This is a hound
- 2:34Speaker 3: dog named Hank, who, according to Angie who we'll talk
- 2:38Speaker 3: to you in a couple of moments Ago, doesn't bark.
- 2:41Speaker 3: Now you're what goes a hound dog. I guess. I
- 2:44Speaker 3: don't know if he does sign language. I don't know
- 2:46Speaker 3: if he just puts up a.
- 2:47Speaker 5: Sign tree and that's the thing. And I don't know
- 2:49Speaker 5: how you bark treat if he can't bark.
- 2:51Speaker 3: But as soon as I said I saw that, she
- 2:53Speaker 3: sends me the picture of every Thursday night I saw
- 2:55Speaker 3: that hound dog name Hank, I immediately thought of you.
- 2:59Speaker 5: Well, I appreciate that I have enough dogs though I've
- 3:02Speaker 5: got two of them, and and and they are both
- 3:06Speaker 5: small dogs, and they both are are highly uh what
- 3:10Speaker 5: do you we call it highly demanding? I'm maintenance and uh,
- 3:14Speaker 5: and they're both prima donnas. So the last thing I
- 3:17Speaker 5: need is another dog, even if it's one that you
- 3:19Speaker 5: know has a gentle, little disposition and you know works
- 3:23Speaker 5: well with others. Because I had two dogs that don't
- 3:26Speaker 5: and doesn't spark doesn't exactly. All right, So let's start
- 3:29Speaker 5: with your game tonight. You got the Hurricane game, right,
- 3:32Speaker 5: I do. I have Hurricane hosting Parkersburg. And really, my
- 3:35Speaker 5: biggest hope for this game is that we don't have lightning.
- 3:38Speaker 3: Yeah, I think you're in good shape.
- 3:39Speaker 5: I do not want to go through that mess again
- 3:42Speaker 5: like we had last week. I was trying to figure
- 3:44Speaker 5: out what we were going to do. Fortunately, we had
- 3:46Speaker 5: Reds baseball in our back pocket that we could just
- 3:48Speaker 5: pop on. We don't have that luxury tonight because the
- 3:51Speaker 5: Reds are on the West Coast, sou And it was
- 3:54Speaker 5: really interesting. We were at Crawford Field last week, and
- 3:56Speaker 5: when we went into game suspension and the monsoon opened up,
- 4:00Speaker 5: I text team Team Bragg and Murphy and and Murph's like,
- 4:05Speaker 5: what are you talking about. It's not even raining here.
- 4:07Speaker 5: He goes, we'ren't a lightning delay, but there's no rain,
- 4:10Speaker 5: and I thought, well, that's weird because there we were
- 4:13Speaker 5: in Windfield. Yeah, and then when they canceled our game,
- 4:17Speaker 5: like ten minutes later, I'm driving up the interstate and
- 4:19Speaker 5: I hear them going, oh, yeah, it's it's a monsoon
- 4:22Speaker 5: here as well.
- 4:24Speaker 3: Murphy actually posted a video of it, and it did.
- 4:26Speaker 3: It looked like a hurricane, not a hurricane. It looked
- 4:29Speaker 3: like a hurricane in Winfield. It was a bad out
- 4:31Speaker 3: there when it hit. But like you said, we had
- 4:32Speaker 3: a lightning delay for probably half an hour with just
- 4:35Speaker 3: no rain. You could tell it was coming though. Yeah,
- 4:37Speaker 3: when it finally hit, I think Matt had parked the
- 4:39Speaker 3: truck out in a spot that had low ground on
- 4:42Speaker 3: either side of it and so there was no safe
- 4:44Speaker 3: way to get But I think he just took his
- 4:45Speaker 3: shoes off and got in barefoot.
- 4:47Speaker 5: That's but that's what happened. Yeah, we had about thirty
- 4:49Speaker 5: minutes there after the first lightning strike that you probably
- 4:52Speaker 5: could have gotten the first half in, but because of
- 4:55Speaker 5: the rules, they had to quit. And then when they
- 4:56Speaker 5: started back up, everybody came back in, got it started,
- 4:58Speaker 5: and then the next time there were there was no
- 5:01Speaker 5: going back after that one.
- 5:02Speaker 3: So hopefully we don't have that problem. So talk about
- 5:04Speaker 3: the matchup Parkersbrook and.
- 5:05Speaker 5: Hurt We have two teams that are winless and one
- 5:08Speaker 5: of them will get their first win tonight. It's been
- 5:10Speaker 5: kind of rough for both of these teams. Parkersburg had
- 5:14Speaker 5: to lead last week and they let it get away
- 5:17Speaker 5: from them to Spring Valley. And then of course Hurricane
- 5:20Speaker 5: started their season against an extremely difficult opponent in George
- 5:24Speaker 5: Rogers Clark of Kentucky, and then they got beaten last
- 5:27Speaker 5: week as well. So one of these teams is going
- 5:29Speaker 5: to come out out of tonight with their first victory.
- 5:32Speaker 5: It'll be interesting to see who will do that because
- 5:34Speaker 5: both teams have a lot of young guys that are
- 5:37Speaker 5: just trying to find their foothold, so this should be
- 5:39Speaker 5: a good opportunity for one of them to take a
- 5:42Speaker 5: step forward tonight.
- 5:43Speaker 3: All right, well, you got on Westervirgina Outdoors. Tomorrow morning,
- 5:46Speaker 3: We're going to talk a little bit more about the
- 5:48Speaker 3: EHD problems that are happening in the midd Ohio Valley
- 5:51Speaker 3: and that is an illness called episootic chemorrhagic disease in
- 5:58Speaker 3: white tailed deer, and we'll tell you a little more
- 6:01Speaker 3: about that because it's a great concern for folks in
- 6:03Speaker 3: that part of the state. And also the National Wild
- 6:06Speaker 3: Turkey Federation, the state chapter has a lot of projects
- 6:09Speaker 3: going on. Kelly McCurdy with NWTF West Virginia is going
- 6:13Speaker 3: to join us and we're going to spotlight some of those.
- 6:15Speaker 3: Plus it's opened a weekend of squirrel season. I saw
- 6:18Speaker 3: your post this morning about how when as a kid
- 6:20Speaker 3: you couldn't sleep the night before on squirrel season in
- 6:22Speaker 3: Virginia was always September of the fifteenth man, and I
- 6:26Speaker 3: just it was.
- 6:27Speaker 5: However, Saturday was around the fifteenth because I always had
- 6:29Speaker 5: to go to school for the other days, but yeah, Saturday,
- 6:32Speaker 5: I couldn't wait to get up and get hit the way.
- 6:35Speaker 3: And you and I have talked about this before because
- 6:36Speaker 3: we're roughly the same age or a year so older
- 6:39Speaker 3: than I am. But I just as goes to show
- 6:41Speaker 3: you how much things have changed. I remember quite well
- 6:44Speaker 3: in elementary school kids bringing their guns to school in
- 6:49Speaker 3: high school all the time. This was I'm talking in
- 6:53Speaker 3: grade school to go squirrel hunting immediately after. I mean
- 6:57Speaker 3: where our elementary school was, which doesn't exist more. But
- 7:00Speaker 3: what they I mean, the boys would bring bring the
- 7:02Speaker 3: guns into the school, take them on the bus, give
- 7:05Speaker 3: them to the teacher, and whatever time the bell rang
- 7:08Speaker 3: for the final about three o'clock or whatever, got their guns,
- 7:11Speaker 3: walked to the school and walked right over the mountain.
- 7:13Speaker 3: No parents, no anything. Same thing, same thing at my
- 7:16Speaker 3: high school. It was.
- 7:18Speaker 5: It just seems so foreign of a concept today. But
- 7:21Speaker 5: our assistant principal said, I don't want your guns. And
- 7:25Speaker 5: they were hanging in the back window of the truck.
- 7:28Speaker 5: He goes, I don't want that in the parking lot.
- 7:29Speaker 5: He said, bring them in here. So we'd come into
- 7:32Speaker 5: the school, different shotgun And when you walk the vice
- 7:36Speaker 5: principals and when you go into his office, literally there
- 7:38Speaker 5: were twenty shotguns all the way around the room for
- 7:40Speaker 5: small caliber rifles.
- 7:42Speaker 3: It was amazing. All right, Chris, have a good broadcast
- 7:44Speaker 3: to night. We'll be listening tomorrow morning. Thanks good man.
- 7:47Speaker 3: Transition over to Tom Bragg. You have got the You
- 7:50Speaker 3: and Murphy have got the Nitro and Hoover game tonight
- 7:53Speaker 3: talking about them. Yeah, big one down in LF.
- 7:55Speaker 6: Two top five teams in the Metro News Power rankings
- 7:58Speaker 6: s clash Triple A this week Nightro coming in at
- 7:59Speaker 6: four or Hoover at five. Wildcats and Huskies coming in
- 8:03Speaker 6: off big wins last week. I know Chris had the
- 8:05Speaker 6: delayed game the Battle of the Bridge and ended up
- 8:08Speaker 6: a lopsided Nitro win on Saturday morning. Similar thing happened
- 8:11Speaker 6: with Herbert Hoover in Winfield last week. Huskies end up
- 8:15Speaker 6: coming away with a thirty five zero win, a big
- 8:17Speaker 6: bounce back game for them after coming up short down
- 8:20Speaker 6: on the road at Independence week one. They're one and
- 8:22Speaker 6: one coming into this one. But this is a heavyweight
- 8:24Speaker 6: matchup certainly as far as Canall Valley high school football goes,
- 8:28Speaker 6: but statewide in Class TRIPLEA, this is won. A lot
- 8:31Speaker 6: of people around the Mountain State have their eyes on
- 8:34Speaker 6: two very good teams. Some questions though. I think whoever's
- 8:38Speaker 6: offensive line keeps their quarterback upright is the team that's
- 8:42Speaker 6: gonna find more success in this one. It was a
- 8:44Speaker 6: big problem from Hoover week one. They allowed eight sacks.
- 8:46Speaker 6: They cleaned that up against Winfield last week. This Nitro defense,
- 8:50Speaker 6: so they've played really well. No points allowed against Saint
- 8:52Speaker 6: Albans last week. They haven't necessarily played a team the
- 8:56Speaker 6: caliber of Independence like Hoover has. I think that's the
- 8:58Speaker 6: best opponent either of these teams has faced so far.
- 9:01Speaker 3: But we'll see.
- 9:02Speaker 6: Man, this is always a fun game when these two
- 9:03Speaker 6: get together. You know, last year these were two high
- 9:05Speaker 6: flying teams scoring a ton of points. They get together
- 9:08Speaker 6: thirteen to ten overtime game. Herbert Hoover won that one.
- 9:11Speaker 6: One of the best games Murphy and I had all
- 9:13Speaker 6: of last year rematches. Tonight down in Elkview, we kick
- 9:17Speaker 6: off is at seven, will go live probably six fifty five,
- 9:20Speaker 6: six fifty a couple minutes before then, and man, really
- 9:22Speaker 6: looking forward to this one, this one. When the schedule
- 9:24Speaker 6: came out, you know you circle marked that games you
- 9:26Speaker 6: look for Win's the Nitro game. This might have been
- 9:28Speaker 6: the first one we started.
- 9:29Speaker 3: In that game. Tonight, of course on Superstar Country ninety
- 9:31Speaker 3: six to one KWS, Chris Lawrence is the Hurricane Game
- 9:35Speaker 3: of Parkersburg. He and Aaron Parker will have the call
- 9:37Speaker 3: of that on WCCHS. Let me ask you real quickly
- 9:39Speaker 3: and then we're going to transition over to Angie Gillenwater.
- 9:42Speaker 3: You're all decked out in your Marshall gear today. Oddly enough,
- 9:45Speaker 3: I've got my Marshall shirt on. There's also a big
- 9:48Speaker 3: game in Morgantown tomorrow, so wbu Pitt, give me quick
- 9:52Speaker 3: twenty thirty seconds your thoughts on that game and the
- 9:54Speaker 3: Marshall game. Marshall still looking for their first victory as
- 9:57Speaker 3: they take on East Kentucky tomorrow, So talk about you
- 10:00Speaker 3: pit first.
- 10:00Speaker 6: I think something's got to give, particularly on the West
- 10:03Speaker 6: Virginia side. Rich's first team, his first year back. They're
- 10:05Speaker 6: kind of trying to find their identity, find some momentum.
- 10:08Speaker 6: It would be a great spot to really win the
- 10:10Speaker 6: fans back over after a rough outing last week. It's
- 10:12Speaker 6: gonna be a tough game. It's pretty good this year,
- 10:14Speaker 6: maybe better than they've been the last few years. So
- 10:16Speaker 6: interesting to see the opportunities there for them to really
- 10:19Speaker 6: see something and for Marshall. You got to win and
- 10:21Speaker 6: it's got to be a thorough beating or the folks,
- 10:23Speaker 6: the pitchforks and the torches might start to come out.
- 10:25Speaker 6: It has been a rough start for Gibbe down in Huntington. Yeah,
- 10:27Speaker 6: that game last week, Wolf, it just kind of an
- 10:29Speaker 6: indictment on maybe how well or how not well they
- 10:33Speaker 6: did in the transfer portal. And it's a dicey gamble
- 10:36Speaker 6: with a lot of those guys, and through a couple
- 10:37Speaker 6: of weeks it looks like it's not paying off for
- 10:39Speaker 6: the hurt so far.
- 10:39Speaker 3: We'll see, I mean, we don't do not want to
- 10:41Speaker 3: start zero to three. No, that's not good. All right,
- 10:45Speaker 3: mister Bragg, appreciate it, buddy, Thanks a lot. We'll be
- 10:47Speaker 3: listening tonight you and Matt Murphy again. That will be
- 10:50Speaker 3: in the land of the Huskies tonight for Herbert Hoover
- 10:52Speaker 3: and Nitro and Chris and Aaron Parker will be a
- 10:54Speaker 3: hurricane for the Redskins and Parkersburg. So again, the Parkersburg
- 10:58Speaker 3: and Hurricane game on WCCHS Superstar Country is the place
- 11:01Speaker 3: for Hurricane football. I mean, sorry, Herbert Hoover football, as
- 11:04Speaker 3: they will be taking on Nitro. Thanks a lot, buddy,
- 11:06Speaker 3: Thanks David. All right, let's go to Angie gillen Water
- 11:08Speaker 3: from the Kenaal Charleston, New Maine Association with this week
- 11:11Speaker 3: sodopt me please ped the week. Angie, Good morning, Welcome
- 11:13Speaker 3: to the show.
- 11:14Speaker 7: Good morning.
- 11:15Speaker 8: Almost had a yawn, interrupt that are you Are.
- 11:19Speaker 3: You not a football fan? And she said what it was?
- 11:22Speaker 8: Oh no, it's just a Friday morning after a long week.
- 11:25Speaker 3: I got you. I got you. By the way, I
- 11:27Speaker 3: want to give a little personal note about Angie here,
- 11:28Speaker 3: and I don't need to go into all the details,
- 11:30Speaker 3: but I had a good friend, friend of the program,
- 11:32Speaker 3: frequent guests of the program that had a situation. No,
- 11:36Speaker 3: I'm sorry, wrong story. I'm getting stories mixed up here.
- 11:39Speaker 3: I had a good friend who reached out to me
- 11:41Speaker 3: and former former employee of this company as a matter
- 11:44Speaker 3: of fact, because they had a they had a straight
- 11:47Speaker 3: a stray dog situation. And she said, I really need
- 11:50Speaker 3: some help, and I hooked you up with Vicky and
- 11:53Speaker 3: you got her taking care of Again. I don't know
- 11:55Speaker 3: all the tales, don't need to, but to appreciate your
- 11:57Speaker 3: help on that, Angie.
- 11:58Speaker 8: I had no problem. Vicky as a a and I
- 12:01Speaker 8: were actively working that situation. That dog's a little smarter
- 12:05Speaker 8: than us.
- 12:05Speaker 3: Dog. All right. Again, I do thank you for your
- 12:09Speaker 3: help because she reached out to me and she said, look,
- 12:11Speaker 3: I don't I don't know what to do here. I said,
- 12:13Speaker 3: I got just a person. Let me give you Angie's
- 12:15Speaker 3: phone number, and so so you're trying, let's get to
- 12:18Speaker 3: this week's not me please spend of the week. As always.
- 12:20Speaker 3: The pictures posted on Dave Island Radio and Facebook, also
- 12:23Speaker 3: the w CHS network Facebook page, as well as at
- 12:26Speaker 3: Dave A seventy on X. It's Hank. Tried to get
- 12:29Speaker 3: Chris Lawrence, who has a son named Hank, to to
- 12:33Speaker 3: at least look at adopting Hank. He didn't seem to
- 12:36Speaker 3: be very interested, but Hank would be a fantastic dog.
- 12:39Speaker 3: Tell us Hank's story.
- 12:41Speaker 8: Hank would absolutely be a fantastic dog for anyone. He
- 12:44Speaker 8: actually came to the shelter as astray with like a
- 12:46Speaker 8: six month old puppy who is named Whalen.
- 12:50Speaker 3: That's my cat's name. That's my cat's name.
- 12:52Speaker 8: That's exactly why I made you telling you. Yeah, we
- 12:55Speaker 8: might change Hank's name to Grady.
- 12:57Speaker 3: Actually, okay, all right, all right.
- 13:00Speaker 8: Hank is about four years old, sixty pounds. He's good
- 13:04Speaker 8: with other calm dogs and extremely friendly with kids. And
- 13:08Speaker 8: if you look at his picture, you'll notice he's a
- 13:11Speaker 8: hound dog of sorts. I'm not sure exactly what breed
- 13:14Speaker 8: of hound dogs he's got. The ears, he's got the
- 13:17Speaker 8: tail the coloring. Interesting fact about Hank, though, is that
- 13:21Speaker 8: he has I've not heard him bark yet, which is
- 13:23Speaker 8: very unusual for a hound, but also unusual just for
- 13:27Speaker 8: a dog in our in our shelterships.
- 13:29Speaker 3: Well, and that's interesting because I mentioned that because you know,
- 13:31Speaker 3: Chris Lawrence is mister outdoors around here, and I mentioned
- 13:34Speaker 3: that to him. I said, this is a hound dog
- 13:35Speaker 3: named Hank, perfect for you. I said, But the one
- 13:37Speaker 3: thing is Angie doesn't know if he barks or not.
- 13:39Speaker 3: And he's said, well, you know, who's ever heard of
- 13:42Speaker 3: a hound dog that doesn't bark? But apparently this is one.
- 13:44Speaker 3: Or maybe he just didn't have anything to say yet.
- 13:47Speaker 8: Yeah, that could be it too. He seems pretty easy going,
- 13:50Speaker 8: so I don't know if he just doesn't have any
- 13:52Speaker 8: complaints and like he doesn't get excited about much. But yeah,
- 13:56Speaker 8: I have yet to hear him bark. Copper, we did
- 13:59Speaker 8: a few weeks ago. Copper, you can tell where he's
- 14:02Speaker 8: in that shelter at all times. Thank not so much?
- 14:05Speaker 3: All right, So we'll get back to Hank it a
- 14:06Speaker 3: couple moments again. If you want to see his picture,
- 14:08Speaker 3: go over to my social media pages also the WCCHS
- 14:11Speaker 3: page tell us about this diplomat program. I was reading
- 14:15Speaker 3: a little bit on your social media last night about
- 14:17Speaker 3: this diplomat program that you got going on to shelter.
- 14:20Speaker 8: Talk about that, yeah, so, and it's our Donkey diplomat
- 14:23Speaker 8: diplomat program, and our volunteers and staff participate in this.
- 14:28Speaker 8: But essentially we our Behaviors keeps a map of the
- 14:32Speaker 8: most stressed dogs in our care. And one way that
- 14:35Speaker 8: we can help ease their stress and make their time
- 14:37Speaker 8: at our shelter a little more enjoyable is through this
- 14:40Speaker 8: doggy Diplomat program. With your doggy diplomat, you get them
- 14:44Speaker 8: out for at least fifteen minutes a day, and you
- 14:46Speaker 8: can take them on a walk. You can take them
- 14:48Speaker 8: on your lunch break and get them you know, cheeseburger,
- 14:52Speaker 8: a pup cuff, what have you. But just getting these
- 14:55Speaker 8: dogs out, spending time with them once you have them
- 14:59Speaker 8: to a level where you can earn their trust. It's
- 15:01Speaker 8: also working on basic commands like sit, stay, things that
- 15:05Speaker 8: will set them up for success in a home. So
- 15:08Speaker 8: our staff do that. Our staff will love their doggy diplomats,
- 15:12Speaker 8: and we also rely on them to give us more
- 15:15Speaker 8: info about their diplomats, So like it's kind of hard
- 15:19Speaker 8: as the social media person there to get to know,
- 15:22Speaker 8: you know, all three hundred four hundred what have you
- 15:24Speaker 8: of our animals? So with the doggy diplomat and the
- 15:28Speaker 8: kiddy diplomats, it's much easier to you know, talk to
- 15:31Speaker 8: somebody about these pets and relay that message to potential adopters.
- 15:35Speaker 3: All right, what are you in need of up there?
- 15:36Speaker 3: I mean it's kind of the same thing every week.
- 15:38Speaker 3: Was there anything that you're specially in need of this
- 15:41Speaker 3: week at the shelter as far as donations go.
- 15:44Speaker 8: I know that we were running really low on don
- 15:46Speaker 8: dishwashing liquid yesterday, and again it doesn't have to be done,
- 15:49Speaker 8: just any dishwashing liquid. And I think dog wet food
- 15:54Speaker 8: of any brand was another thing that we were pretty
- 15:56Speaker 8: low on.
- 15:57Speaker 3: All right, Are you out at about anywhere this weekend?
- 16:00Speaker 8: Yes? So we're actually going to be participating in Be
- 16:03Speaker 8: my Neighbor Day tomorrow at slack Plaza. I think it's
- 16:07Speaker 8: from twelve to three around that area, So we will
- 16:11Speaker 8: be down there with some adoptable puppies.
- 16:13Speaker 3: All right, that sounds good? All right? And she's oh,
- 16:16Speaker 3: I forgot. I have a text for you. You know
- 16:18Speaker 3: you have a text. Wait on you. Every week. Texas
- 16:21Speaker 3: saw Splash, who was one of the pups lefting in
- 16:24Speaker 3: a box with his mom and siblings back in June
- 16:26Speaker 3: on TV yesterday. He was adorable. Was wondering how those
- 16:29Speaker 3: poor pups were doing that were found in the box
- 16:31Speaker 3: in that heat. I know you said one was in
- 16:33Speaker 3: critical condition. Please tell us they are doing well.
- 16:37Speaker 8: So yeah, whenever they came in, two of them had
- 16:40Speaker 8: passed away immediately upon entering the shelter. Then there was
- 16:45Speaker 8: the one that kind of broke Facebook and her skin
- 16:48Speaker 8: aspay of the details that she had extreme sunburn essentially,
- 16:53Speaker 8: so she actually ended up succumbing to her injuries as well.
- 16:56Speaker 8: But as for the rest of the puppies and mom,
- 16:59Speaker 8: everyone has been doing fabulous. Everyone is now available for adoption.
- 17:04Speaker 8: So if you see any puppy with a summer scenes
- 17:07Speaker 8: name so like Splash, Sunflower, those kind of names, those
- 17:12Speaker 8: are her puppies. And Slushy is the mama dog. Slushy
- 17:16Speaker 8: is also one of the dogs that is very very
- 17:17Speaker 8: stressed in the shelter. So if you have some sympathy
- 17:20Speaker 8: in your heart for Mom and her pupps. They are
- 17:23Speaker 8: all available for adoption and would love to be out.
- 17:25Speaker 3: Of there all right. Hey, I appreciate you taking time
- 17:29Speaker 3: to be here today. Thanks a lot, and we'll talk
- 17:31Speaker 3: again next week.
- 17:32Speaker 8: It sounds good.
- 17:33Speaker 9: I have a good one.
- 17:34Speaker 3: Angie gillenwaterkinon charst and you main association again. Hank is
- 17:38Speaker 3: our dog this week. Hank is four years old, about
- 17:40Speaker 3: sixty pounds. Came into a stray, great with kids. Other
- 17:43Speaker 3: calm dogs, no problem there as well. He's a hound
- 17:47Speaker 3: that they've not heard bark yet, so that's that's kind
- 17:51Speaker 3: of different. But Bee, look, if you want a quiet dog,
- 17:53Speaker 3: this might be the dog for you. And his adoption
- 17:55Speaker 3: fee is waves so he is absolutely freeze, a very
- 17:58Speaker 3: sweet dog, walks well on a lace. Perfect perfect dog.
- 18:01Speaker 3: Old Hank is the dog that you need. I get

- 20:22Speaker 9: Hey there, I'm doing well.
- 20:23Speaker 3: Thank you for being here. Talk about the Mountain State Spotlight.
- 20:29Speaker 3: For those that don't know what exactly is Mountain State.
- 20:31Speaker 12: Spotlight, that's a really good place to start. We are
- 20:34Speaker 12: a nonprofit newsroom or digital only. We produce about three
- 20:38Speaker 12: stories a week. Deep investigations are our priority. We also
- 20:43Speaker 12: cover the legislature pretty intensely. So we're not that not
- 20:49Speaker 12: news outlet that's going to tell you that sixty four
- 20:51Speaker 12: is shut down because of that right, yeah, of a wreck.
- 20:53Speaker 12: But we're going to do the more intense investigative Why
- 20:57Speaker 12: are there these issues. Let's get to their root, and
- 21:01Speaker 12: let's get out there and talk to West Virginians and
- 21:03Speaker 12: figure out what information they are.
- 21:04Speaker 3: And I think you know what happens. This is so
- 21:06Speaker 3: many times in the world of media, US and the
- 21:11Speaker 3: folks at the TV stations and you know whatever, we
- 21:14Speaker 3: get this all the time. Well, you guys need to
- 21:16Speaker 3: look into this, and you guys need to and look,
- 21:19Speaker 3: we're an award winning Marconi Award winning news operation here.
- 21:24Speaker 3: We're pretty good at what we do. I think I
- 21:25Speaker 3: can't take credit for it. I'm just a personality. I'm
- 21:28Speaker 3: not a news person. And even the TV stations, to
- 21:31Speaker 3: a certain extent, from time to time they'll do an
- 21:33Speaker 3: investigative report, but primarily it's breaking news. It's sixty four
- 21:37Speaker 3: is shut down, which by the way, it's not. I
- 21:39Speaker 3: just want to know, it's day to day news whatever,
- 21:44Speaker 3: and there's just not an opportunity because of lack of people,
- 21:48Speaker 3: like of staff, like you know whatever, to sometimes break
- 21:51Speaker 3: down into these deeper stories. And that's where I think
- 21:53Speaker 3: it's so important from a journalism standpoint that we have
- 21:56Speaker 3: an organization like yours. Let's go back over the history.
- 22:00Speaker 3: But have you been there the entire time?
- 22:01Speaker 9: I have not known. I wish I was. I wish
- 22:04Speaker 9: I could say that.
- 22:05Speaker 3: Got there as quickly as you could.
- 22:06Speaker 12: Pretty much, Yeah, pretty much. I had my eye on
- 22:09Speaker 12: us from the very beginning.
- 22:12Speaker 3: Explain that What was it that interested you about Mountain
- 22:14Speaker 3: States one.
- 22:14Speaker 12: Yeah, I liked the concept that we go to West Virginians,
- 22:20Speaker 12: ask them what they want to know, go away to
- 22:23Speaker 12: our little holes of a reporting room, do that work,
- 22:27Speaker 12: and then bring it back to the people. And so
- 22:29Speaker 12: we are not trying to decide what's important for West Virginians.
- 22:33Speaker 12: We're letting them tell us, and then we're going to
- 22:35Speaker 12: go do the work because we have the resources in
- 22:37Speaker 12: the time, and that's our whole job, and these other
- 22:39Speaker 12: people have whole other jobs that they don't.
- 22:41Speaker 3: I mean, you look in there is a there's is
- 22:44Speaker 3: in the world of media landscape, which you know has
- 22:47Speaker 3: never been bigger than it is now. There's room for
- 22:50Speaker 3: everybody and everything. And even though you know sometimes we
- 22:54Speaker 3: compete for ad dollars and things of that nature, I
- 22:57Speaker 3: mean we work in this organization, we work hand in
- 23:00Speaker 3: hand with with the TV stations in the here, we
- 23:03Speaker 3: work hand in hand sometimes, you know, with the UH,
- 23:06Speaker 3: with the news UH, with the newspapers, and with folks
- 23:10Speaker 3: like you, because look, we need we all need each other,
- 23:13Speaker 3: because because because we all do different things. Over that
- 23:17Speaker 3: five years, I know you've not been there, Lauren the
- 23:19Speaker 3: entire time, but over that five years, talk about some
- 23:22Speaker 3: of the bigger stories that have been covered either you've covered,
- 23:26Speaker 3: or the or the or the I keep calling it
- 23:29Speaker 3: a publication because I'm old. You know the news source
- 23:33Speaker 3: has covered. Talk about some of the bigger stories.
- 23:34Speaker 12: Well, first, let me go back and say that I
- 23:36Speaker 12: fully agree with you, and to me it sounds so
- 23:40Speaker 12: flitty floaty whatever, But to me, there's no competition, only collaborators,
- 23:45Speaker 12: and so we're we're all working towards the same goal,
- 23:49Speaker 12: which is to just keep people informed. And thank goodness,
- 23:51Speaker 12: folks like you, folks like the news stations are able
- 23:53Speaker 12: to do that breaking news, because that's just not what
- 23:56Speaker 12: our focus is. We have a different focus, and so
- 23:57Speaker 12: that's fine some of our bigger stories. I mean so
- 24:03Speaker 12: luckily for the rest of our team. I am not
- 24:04Speaker 12: a reporter. I am our development office, so I do
- 24:07Speaker 12: our fundraising. We have such a fantastic reporting staff that
- 24:13Speaker 12: gets in there, and we've covered a lot of the
- 24:15Speaker 12: flooding that's happened, especially in the past year, but definitely
- 24:20Speaker 12: that's the flood recovery and then the incoming floods that happen.
- 24:25Speaker 9: Since twenty sixteen.
- 24:27Speaker 12: We're talking about broadband, we're talking about all this relevant
- 24:31Speaker 12: day to day the things that you're talking around around
- 24:34Speaker 12: your dinner table. We last year, around the election, put
- 24:38Speaker 12: together the Citizen's Agenda for West Virginia. So we went
- 24:41Speaker 12: to all fifty five counties. Our reporters put something like
- 24:44Speaker 12: over ten thousand miles on their cars or something like that,
- 24:47Speaker 12: went to all fifty five counties, talked to West Virginians
- 24:50Speaker 12: wanted to know what they needed to know in order
- 24:54Speaker 12: to make an informed voting decision. And so we put
- 24:58Speaker 12: together a voter guide on every single candidate running at
- 25:03Speaker 12: any level down to the county.
- 25:04Speaker 3: Level, and these things and these voter guys, they are
- 25:06Speaker 3: not necessarily endorsements or anything like that. They're just basically
- 25:10Speaker 3: what you what the public has asked about these candidates,
- 25:15Speaker 3: and this is how he or she feels on this
- 25:17Speaker 3: subject or on that subject or exactly. Yeah.
- 25:20Speaker 12: It's if nothing else, the farthest thing from an endorsement possible.
- 25:23Speaker 12: It is just the facts and it is Hey, the
- 25:26Speaker 12: people in your county want to fix the potholes.
- 25:29Speaker 9: What are you going to do about that? And then the.
- 25:31Speaker 12: Person answers the question or they don't answer, and then
- 25:35Speaker 12: we just publish exactly what they say, no commentary, and
- 25:38Speaker 12: then we give it back to the people in those
- 25:40Speaker 12: counties and then they can make a decision on who
- 25:42Speaker 12: to vote for based on that. So that was that
- 25:44Speaker 12: was one of our biggest things last year for sure.
- 25:46Speaker 3: Lauren Hatcher from a Mountain State Spotlight This year of
- 25:49Speaker 3: a Dave Allen Show on five eighty line, brought to
- 25:50Speaker 3: you part by Pinnacle Consultants. Poor indoor air quality can
- 25:53Speaker 3: cause a variety of health issues, allergies, respiratory problems, and
- 25:56Speaker 3: a bunch more. Pinnacle can offer specialized indoor air quality
- 25:59Speaker 3: serve as residential, commercial, and industrial settings. Check out Pinnacle
- 26:03Speaker 3: Corp dot net. Because what you don't know can hurt you.
- 26:05Speaker 3: You mentioned the funding of that. Where does the funding
- 26:08Speaker 3: come from for this?
- 26:09Speaker 12: Yeah, so that's another great question. That's where we're the
- 26:12Speaker 12: nonprofit part of us comes into play, and a lot
- 26:15Speaker 12: of people, I think maybe don't realize either that we
- 26:17Speaker 12: are a nonprofit or what that really means. And so
- 26:21Speaker 12: that means we are at the absolute root of it,
- 26:26Speaker 12: for the people, by the people, and so we are
- 26:28Speaker 12: funded by the people that we see in Kroger. We
- 26:31Speaker 12: have people that send us monthly donations just like you
- 26:35Speaker 12: would any other nonprofit, or annual donations or any level
- 26:40Speaker 12: of tax deductible donation. And we also have national grant
- 26:43Speaker 12: funders because again like most nonprofits, we are grant funded
- 26:46Speaker 12: as well. And so we again, this is our fifth birthday.
- 26:53Speaker 12: We are next Wednesday, the seventeenth, that'll be five years
- 26:56Speaker 12: that we have existed, and we've never done a fundraising
- 26:58Speaker 12: event before, okay, and so we're trying it out and
- 27:01Speaker 12: it'll be next Thursday, the eighteenth, and.
- 27:06Speaker 9: It's a new endeavor for us.
- 27:07Speaker 3: And where will that be?
- 27:08Speaker 12: Yeah, So it's happening at the McFarland Hubbard House thanks
- 27:10Speaker 12: to the Western Humanities Council, folks, they've been great partners
- 27:15Speaker 12: in making this event come to life. So we're really
- 27:17Speaker 12: excited to have it in a place that feels very
- 27:21Speaker 12: West Virginia because I'm not sure if you're familiar with
- 27:24Speaker 12: that home, but it's a historically recognized home and beautiful
- 27:27Speaker 12: has a lot of rich history of Charleston and West Virginia.
- 27:32Speaker 3: Right, So, and again we'll give you more information about
- 27:39Speaker 3: the celebration and the gathering, the fundraising event if you will,
- 27:41Speaker 3: coming up in just a little bit. But how did
- 27:44Speaker 3: you how did you get involved in this? You said
- 27:45Speaker 3: you hadn't been there all five years. You said that
- 27:47Speaker 3: you're also not a reporter, that you're more on the
- 27:49Speaker 3: development side. Talk about you. How'd you get involved in.
- 27:53Speaker 12: Well, like I said, so, I've been in Charleston now
- 27:55Speaker 12: over five years. So I'm originally from Blacksburg, Virginia.
- 27:59Speaker 3: Okay, other Virginia home of the Hokies. Yeah boo, not
- 28:03Speaker 3: a Virginia tech.
- 28:04Speaker 12: Not a Virginia Tech person, all right, despite one of
- 28:07Speaker 12: my brothers being there as a student right now, not
- 28:09Speaker 12: a Virginia Tech person. No, I'm excited for the backyard
- 28:13Speaker 12: brawl this weekend.
- 28:14Speaker 3: Okay, all right, but yeah.
- 28:16Speaker 12: Originally from Blacksburg, Virginia. Went to college up in Buchanan
- 28:20Speaker 12: at West Virginia Wesleyange.
- 28:21Speaker 3: One of my favorite I just had the president of
- 28:24Speaker 3: Wesleyan on the show last week, one of my favorite people.
- 28:26Speaker 9: I love James.
- 28:26Speaker 12: He's a good friend of mine. Yeah, he's a great guy.
- 28:29Speaker 12: Such a good guy.
- 28:30Speaker 9: A lot of great things, oh my goodness, doing such
- 28:32Speaker 9: great there.
- 28:33Speaker 3: And a beautiful campus. I mean it's classic. I mean
- 28:35Speaker 3: I've spent time on campus because we have a partnership
- 28:38Speaker 3: with them for the Westervirginian Scholar Program, uh and which
- 28:41Speaker 3: we're very very proud of. But that the campus that
- 28:44Speaker 3: if you're happy to be in Buchanan, especially if it's fall,
- 28:48Speaker 3: you know, grab a parking spot and just just walk
- 28:51Speaker 3: around campus.
- 28:52Speaker 12: It's a beautiful sing by Stone Tower downtown, get a
- 28:55Speaker 12: cup of coffee and then walk around campus.
- 28:57Speaker 3: Beautiful it is. It is. But sorry, I kind of go, oh, no,
- 29:00Speaker 3: it's fine.
- 29:01Speaker 9: I all got on tangents to talk about Wesley and
- 29:03Speaker 9: all the time. I love it.
- 29:04Speaker 12: But yeah, So went to school up there and then
- 29:06Speaker 12: moved down here to Charleston about five years ago. Have
- 29:08Speaker 12: been here ever since and had had my eyes on
- 29:12Speaker 12: Mountain Stay spotlight as I saw them formulating who they
- 29:16Speaker 12: were in the state and kind of they came to be.
- 29:20Speaker 12: Ken Ward Junior, previously of the Gazette, started this organization
- 29:28Speaker 12: and just hit the ground running trying to make sure
- 29:31Speaker 12: that West Virginians not only had the news that they needed,
- 29:34Speaker 12: the information that they needed, but that he was creating
- 29:37Speaker 12: an organization that matched those values as well. And so
- 29:40Speaker 12: we prioritize reporter pay, we prioritize benefitally, I mean all
- 29:45Speaker 12: of that. We just we want to be not only
- 29:47Speaker 12: a place that is making West Virginia better, but is
- 29:50Speaker 12: a good place to work as well, and it's fantastic.
- 29:52Speaker 3: One thing that our organization and all I think news
- 29:56Speaker 3: organizations kind of struggle with from time to time, is
- 30:00Speaker 3: that especially with getting young people to go into this
- 30:05Speaker 3: because it's with the with social media, Lauren being what
- 30:09Speaker 3: it is now, everybody is a reporter. That's not always good.
- 30:13Speaker 3: That's not always good because and again I'm not a reporter.
- 30:16Speaker 3: I have been. I've been a news director of a
- 30:18Speaker 3: radio station, but it's not what I do now. But
- 30:21Speaker 3: we are trained on how to do certain things, especially
- 30:24Speaker 3: when it comes to breaking is, which I know you
- 30:25Speaker 3: guys don't do. You know, you don't just go on
- 30:27Speaker 3: the air with something You've You've got to be able
- 30:29Speaker 3: to have a you know, you got to verify, verify
- 30:33Speaker 3: three three sources, that sort of thing. Sometimes not everybody
- 30:36Speaker 3: does it on social media. But my point is, my
- 30:38Speaker 3: point is is that it's difficult sometimes to find people
- 30:42Speaker 3: that are that are going into things like what we
- 30:46Speaker 3: do for a living, and even even a again I
- 30:49Speaker 3: keep calling it a publication.
- 30:50Speaker 9: Just just it could.
- 30:52Speaker 3: Just bear with me. Even with an organization like yours,
- 30:55Speaker 3: I would imagine sometimes it's it's difficult to find people.
- 30:59Speaker 12: Yeah, I mean, and that's something that we talk about
- 31:01Speaker 12: all the time, just in terms of the state, I mean,
- 31:03Speaker 12: where constantly that's a lens that we have to look
- 31:07Speaker 12: at all of our stories through, is the fact that
- 31:09Speaker 12: the general population of West Virginia is older. It's something
- 31:13Speaker 12: that I've been passionate about. I Mean, I like to
- 31:16Speaker 12: joke that I'm a West Virginian by choice.
- 31:19Speaker 3: Trust me. We need more people to be West Virginia's
- 31:21Speaker 3: by so we need West Virginians to remain West Virginian story.
- 31:25Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 31:26Speaker 12: So it's I mean, it's definitely a challenge that I
- 31:29Speaker 12: feel like everybody is facing. Definitely us as the news
- 31:33Speaker 12: and media world, but just everybody is facing the struggle
- 31:37Speaker 12: of finding a way to entice young people to not
- 31:40Speaker 12: only be here, but stay here. That's something I cared
- 31:43Speaker 12: about a lot having come to school here. I didn't
- 31:45Speaker 12: want to just come in and then fly back out.
- 31:47Speaker 12: I wanted this to be a place that I was
- 31:51Speaker 12: able to invest my energy and care in because it
- 31:55Speaker 12: held me and invested energy and careen to me when
- 31:58Speaker 12: I was here.
- 31:58Speaker 9: And so.
- 32:00Speaker 12: I think we feel lucky to have found several different
- 32:05Speaker 12: interns that have turned into staff members. We talk a
- 32:08Speaker 12: lot with a lot of the journalism schools, both WU
- 32:11Speaker 12: and Marshall. I mean, we feel lucky to have those
- 32:14Speaker 12: connections across the state that find us the people that
- 32:19Speaker 12: need to find us.
- 32:20Speaker 9: If that makes I.
- 32:21Speaker 3: Want to and we'll wrap it up here because I
- 32:23Speaker 3: know you've got things to do, and I want to
- 32:24Speaker 3: make sure we give all the details and everything about
- 32:27Speaker 3: your event next week. But your story fascinates me because
- 32:31Speaker 3: again it's somebody not from West Virginia. You chose to
- 32:34Speaker 3: go to school in West Virginia at Wesleyan, then you
- 32:37Speaker 3: chose Charleston. And we need so many of these stories
- 32:40Speaker 3: because all we hear is people are fleeing West Virginia
- 32:43Speaker 3: right and left. You're somebody who's not Did you have
- 32:46Speaker 3: ties to this area at all? I mean family, not
- 32:48Speaker 3: Charleston specifically.
- 32:49Speaker 12: I have grandparents in Bluefield and Buchanan. It's the Wesleyan,
- 32:53Speaker 12: but no, not Charleston.
- 32:54Speaker 3: I just okay. But you chose to come to go
- 32:57Speaker 3: to school here, and you chose to stay here. You've
- 32:59Speaker 3: chose to make a life here. How do we talk
- 33:02Speaker 3: to a lot more younger people about wanting to do
- 33:06Speaker 3: what you did, whether it's somebody who's from West Virginia
- 33:10Speaker 3: or somebody like you who chose West Virgina. How do
- 33:14Speaker 3: we how do we sell that? How do you sell
- 33:17Speaker 3: people on what you experience have made you who are
- 33:20Speaker 3: from Blacksburg, Virginia want to stay in West Virginia.
- 33:25Speaker 12: I hate to use this answer, but it's just the people.
- 33:27Speaker 12: You meet, the right people, and you fall in love.
- 33:29Speaker 12: You see the way that they view the state, whether
- 33:33Speaker 12: they're from here or not. The grit and the resiliency
- 33:38Speaker 12: of West Virginians is something that I respect and admire
- 33:42Speaker 12: so much and want to continue to like push people
- 33:45Speaker 12: for it. It's I kind of like to think about
- 33:47Speaker 12: it as like I'm fresh blood. I haven't had to
- 33:50Speaker 12: deal with all of the struggles that so many West
- 33:53Speaker 12: Virginians have had to deal with for so long, and
- 33:55Speaker 12: so I can come in with some renewed energy because
- 33:57Speaker 12: I'm a newbie. I've only been in the state nine
- 34:00Speaker 12: years now, and so I still I'm not jaded. I
- 34:03Speaker 12: have the energy to continue creating the world that that
- 34:08Speaker 12: we want to have for these young people and encourage
- 34:10Speaker 12: them to be here. I think as as much as
- 34:13Speaker 12: we want to sell it and it's beautiful and we
- 34:15Speaker 12: can post the pictures of the gorge and it's stunning it,
- 34:18Speaker 12: we can draw people here.
- 34:19Speaker 9: But in order to get people to stay, you have
- 34:21Speaker 9: to you gotta.
- 34:22Speaker 12: Pay them, you gotta care for them, you gotta find
- 34:26Speaker 12: your community, you gotta uh get just get them invested.
- 34:32Speaker 12: You get invested. You gotta let people know that they
- 34:36Speaker 12: they care about you be in here. I mean it
- 34:41Speaker 12: if if I were to leave, I know people would
- 34:43Speaker 12: be upset, and I don't know if other people, like
- 34:45Speaker 12: just my friends, and I don't know if other people
- 34:47Speaker 12: would feel that way. And so you just got to
- 34:48Speaker 12: find the way to invest in people, and you gotta
- 34:51Speaker 12: find the way to help help them feel like they're
- 34:55Speaker 12: part of something and they're part of the community, and
- 34:59Speaker 12: just really, like I said, invest in them.
- 35:01Speaker 3: All right, talk about your gathering next week.
- 35:04Speaker 9: Yeah, So September eighteenth, Thursday.
- 35:09Speaker 12: It is a donor event and it's no gala, it's
- 35:12Speaker 12: no sit down chicken dinner. It is casual, it is celebratory.
- 35:17Speaker 12: I mean, we are just simply giddy and excited to
- 35:20Speaker 12: be here after five years being able to provide information
- 35:25Speaker 12: to West Virginians. I mean, we hear stories every day.
- 35:28Speaker 12: Without you all, we wouldn't have the information.
- 35:30Speaker 3: That we have and remind people where they can get
- 35:32Speaker 3: said information.
- 35:33Speaker 12: So all that information can be found on our Facebook,
- 35:36Speaker 12: on our website, mountsday Spotlight dot org, mount Stay Spotlight
- 35:40Speaker 12: on Facebook. It'll be six to eight tickets at thirty
- 35:44Speaker 12: five dollars. But we also have a pay what you
- 35:46Speaker 12: can option because all of our reporting is free and
- 35:49Speaker 12: so we want to make sure our events are also
- 35:51Speaker 12: accessible to everybody else and no paywalls, right, no paywalls
- 35:54Speaker 12: at all.
- 35:55Speaker 3: That's a very important thing. And I want to make
- 35:58Speaker 3: sure that people realize that they can go check out
- 35:59Speaker 3: your public not just when you're having this gala and
- 36:02Speaker 3: this fundraiser.
- 36:04Speaker 9: Yeah, we have a weekly newsletter.
- 36:05Speaker 12: During session, we have a daily newsletter, so we really
- 36:08Speaker 12: try to get the information to people as fast as

- 48:08Speaker 3: brewing and again top of the hour, ABC News will
- 48:11Speaker 3: have more on the Charlie Kirk assassin and assassin apparently
- 48:15Speaker 3: has been apprehended twenty two year old. We're hearing from
- 48:18Speaker 3: Utah and folks including President Trump are saying that the
- 48:23Speaker 3: guy's father actually was the one who talked him into confessing,
- 48:27Speaker 3: apparently after the weapon was recovered. And you know, it's
- 48:30Speaker 3: just a matter of time. So there's going to be
- 48:31Speaker 3: a briefing covet up soon and we'll have more in
- 48:33Speaker 3: that with ABC News. But there's some other controversy right now.
- 48:36Speaker 3: I want to talk about Delegate Anitra Hamilton, and I
- 48:39Speaker 3: think talk line boys are going to get in this
- 48:41Speaker 3: a little bit dead. A post on social media that's
- 48:43Speaker 3: getting a lot, a lot of blowback. I'm going to
- 48:48Speaker 3: paraphrase the post, and I appreciate a texture who sent
- 48:50Speaker 3: this in here. America continues to be accustomed to individuals
- 48:53Speaker 3: of notable reputation and those of no known nature. It's
- 48:56Speaker 3: viewing racism and performing acts of discrimination. Speaking words of
- 49:00Speaker 3: racist nature is not your first Amendment right, but are
- 49:03Speaker 3: acts of domestic terrorism upon the souls of the American people.
- 49:07Speaker 3: There are no skill sets that compare you or protect
- 49:10Speaker 3: you from racism. And for the people who find respect
- 49:12Speaker 3: for the work of racist people in lieu of their racism,
- 49:15Speaker 3: by the way she's spilled in lou of wrong, for
- 49:18Speaker 3: people who only see religion but not the structure of
- 49:21Speaker 3: racism and discrimination that was carried in on the back
- 49:24Speaker 3: of it. And for the people who are practicing against
- 49:26Speaker 3: political violence and will not acknowledge the overt and covert
- 49:29Speaker 3: expressions and demonstrations of racism. Whether you're Republican's Democrat and
- 49:33Speaker 3: the new hiding place of independence, we see you. You
- 49:36Speaker 3: have done nothing all that talking and have done nothing.
- 49:39Speaker 7: You do.
- 49:40Speaker 3: You don't create spaces of debate by being racist, especially
- 49:43Speaker 3: when everyone debating is white and you're speaking in places
- 49:46Speaker 3: where the African American population is one point three six percent.
- 49:51Speaker 3: And she ends with saying thank you for attending my
- 49:53Speaker 3: ted talk. That's from Delegate Nitra Hamilton, and a lot
- 49:58Speaker 3: of folks take an issue with that, and yeah, there's
- 50:03Speaker 3: there gonna be some controversy. I think that's going to
- 50:05Speaker 3: come out of that. There already has been as a
- 50:07Speaker 3: matter of fact. But Dave Allan showing five Ady Live

- 50:15Speaker 3: If you missed Senator Jim Justice interview with Wilson to
- 50:18Speaker 3: Meadows and talk line yesterday, oh my, it was a
- 50:20Speaker 3: good one. Brad mclahenny writes about at wv metronews dot com.
- 50:25Speaker 3: It's the lead story as a matter of fact this morning.
- 50:27Speaker 3: And you'll recall that when Governor Justice, Governor den Governor
- 50:32Speaker 3: Justice veto to bill that would have loosened West Virginia's
- 50:37Speaker 3: mandatory school vaccinations. So he was on talk line, the
- 50:42Speaker 3: senator was yesterday, Senator Justice, and was asked what he
- 50:47Speaker 3: thought of the current battle over vaccine mandates for school
- 50:50Speaker 3: kids playing out in court. He calls it quote plane
- 50:54Speaker 3: out and out nuts quote now direct quote. The CDC
- 51:00Speaker 3: has been around a long time. The vaccines are proven
- 51:03Speaker 3: in every way. You know where I stood when I
- 51:06Speaker 3: was your governor. President Trump stands with me in regards
- 51:10Speaker 3: to the vaccine, etc. Etc.
- 51:12Speaker 2: Etc.
- 51:14Speaker 3: And the terms end quote. And when I took away
- 51:17Speaker 3: and I listened to this intently set it in my
- 51:18Speaker 3: desk yesterday. What I took away from this and the
- 51:23Speaker 3: way that the government threw it out there, the governor,
- 51:27Speaker 3: the senator, former governor threw it out there. I'm just
- 51:31Speaker 3: gonna speculate, and I've had no one on ones with
- 51:34Speaker 3: Jim Justice. I think he wants to be governor again.
- 51:37Speaker 3: I really do, and I'm certainly not alone in that.
- 51:40Speaker 3: I am told he has told people in private that yes,
- 51:44Speaker 3: he does want to be governor again. And I don't
- 51:47Speaker 3: think it hurts him any. When you think about the
- 51:50Speaker 3: West Virginia pole that came out of it would be
- 51:54Speaker 3: I guess what two weeks ago today that said, among
- 51:57Speaker 3: other things, that West Virginian, many of whom supported Jim
- 52:03Speaker 3: Justice in the past say that then Governor Jim Justice
- 52:07Speaker 3: was the best governor of their lifetime. I think that
- 52:10Speaker 3: does nothing but fuel the fire to be honest with
- 52:14Speaker 3: you a little bit. And I'm I'm told that now
- 52:17Speaker 3: Senator Justice wants to be Governor Justice. Now he did
- 52:20Speaker 3: say he did say he wishes he called him Patrick.
- 52:23Speaker 3: I do wish Patrick the best. But I'm I'm hearing
- 52:25Speaker 3: what I'm hearing. There is that yeah, that I think
- 52:29Speaker 3: he wants to be He wants to be governor again.
