- 0:55Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, we got speculations, we got.
- 1:01Speaker 1: We'll talk about the commits that are committed.
- 1:04Speaker 2: We're going to speculate about Miami Hurricanes quarterback, yeah.
- 1:08Speaker 1: There's a Miami quarterback that needs to be addressed.
- 1:10Speaker 1: Florida State has gotten the main piece.
- 1:16Speaker 2: We got our.
- 1:17Speaker 1: QB.
- 1:17Speaker 1: We got the QB.
- 1:19Speaker 1: The big defensive players Took a big whiff.
- 1:22Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, everyone was going after him.
- 1:26Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I think it was a waste of time for everybody.
- 1:29Speaker 1: And he that I am speaking of is.
- 1:34Speaker 2: Nick Scowerton committed to Texas A&M.
- 1:36Speaker 2: Yeah Right, I mean he's from five minutes down the road.
- 1:39Speaker 2: I'm pretty sure A&M got him to jump in the portal in the first place.
- 1:44Speaker 1: So Good on Elko.
- 1:48Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean you love to have a kid like that.
- 1:49Speaker 2: Make it three for three in the first round picks A defensive end.
- 1:53Speaker 2: But yeah, you know they don't always line up for you?
- 1:56Speaker 1: No, they got Zion Young.
- 1:58Speaker 1: Do you think Elko is going to get it done at A&M?
- 2:01Speaker 1: I do, I do too, I do.
- 2:03Speaker 1: Well, I mean, eventually you got to get it done, as much the infrastructure they're putting into it.
- 2:09Speaker 2: Jimbo Right, well, yeah, yeah, and I don't you know, and Jimbo did bad things to the place.
- 2:14Speaker 1: I'm sure he got them to spend the right facilities, but he was there cashing yeah, jimbo played the villain.
- 2:21Speaker 2: The next guy will come in and do really well.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Right.
- 2:24Speaker 2: Especially Elko, especially man.
- 2:26Speaker 1: Right.
- 2:26Speaker 2: He was only out of there for two years, he's got Right, got the relationships yeah.
- 2:30Speaker 2: Yeah, he wouldn't have got Scourton if he didn't.
- 2:32Speaker 2: That's a kid he probably saw in high school.
- 2:34Speaker 2: Right, he was a high school coach.
- 2:36Speaker 2: Hey man, I heard you got the A&M job.
- 2:38Speaker 2: Well, my kid Nick's ready to just leave West Lafayette.
- 2:41Speaker 2: All right, cool, we got a million five for him waiting.
- 2:43Speaker 2: We can go up, boom yeah.
- 2:46Speaker 2: That's all hypothetical, of course.
- 2:49Speaker 2: Yeah, it's not tampering.
- 2:51Speaker 2: Oh, it's hot speculation.
- 2:52Speaker 2: Yeah, it's just guys having conversations, that's all it is.
- 2:56Speaker 2: People catching up, hot speculation, that's all it is.
- 3:08Speaker 1: Hot speculation.
- 3:09Speaker 1: Greatest song, let's get into it.
- 3:11Speaker 1: Man, what are?
- 3:12Speaker 2: we going to?
- 3:12Speaker 2: Let's get into speculation.
- 3:13Speaker 2: Let's go to Florida State.
- 3:14Speaker 2: Yeah, all right, they got a kid Zion.
- 3:15Speaker 2: Yeah, they got a kid.
- 3:16Speaker 2: Yeah, they got a kid.
- 3:17Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:18Speaker 1: All right, they got a kid.
- 3:19Speaker 2: Zion Young, michigan State Transfer defensive end.
- 3:22Speaker 2: Six foot six two seventy.
- 3:24Speaker 2: Originally out of the Atlanta area, he's on campus right now, scheduled to take a visit to Missouri tomorrow.
- 3:31Speaker 2: Pretty sure Florida State wants to try to get that canceled.
- 3:34Speaker 2: Go ahead and get a commitment, we'll see.
- 3:37Speaker 2: It would be a nice pickup man.
- 3:39Speaker 2: Yeah you missed on Scourton.
- 3:41Speaker 2: You need other guys.
- 3:42Speaker 2: These are multiple year guys.
- 3:43Speaker 2: They're going to go after Scourton.
- 3:45Speaker 2: Was that one?
- 3:45Speaker 2: And done guy?
- 3:46Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't even know if I'm saying his name right, that's just how I'm saying it.
- 3:49Speaker 2: So anyway, yeah, zion Young on campus.
- 3:53Speaker 2: You know they got a couple other guys.
- 3:55Speaker 2: They're looking at big toco, his nickname, out there at Oregon State defensive end.
- 4:00Speaker 2: That jumped in.
- 4:01Speaker 2: We'll see if we can pick up some traction there.
- 4:03Speaker 2: I mean, you know you're not going to get an NFL guy on paper, but maybe, maybe you bring in some bodies and you develop.
- 4:12Speaker 2: You already got Mario or Marvin Jones Jr.
- 4:14Speaker 1: Mm, hmm.
- 4:15Speaker 2: You know.
- 4:15Speaker 2: So that's a, that's a plus.
- 4:16Speaker 2: You retain Pat Payton, Mm.
- 4:18Speaker 2: Hmm.
- 4:19Speaker 1: So you're not completely still waiting on your guys to come back.
- 4:22Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, and I'm talking about Jackson Farmer.
- 4:26Speaker 2: Right.
- 4:27Speaker 2: Um, I don't believe Jackson entered the portal.
- 4:31Speaker 2: Um, no, no word on him.
- 4:33Speaker 2: I pretty sure farmer asked for his portal entry to be withdrawn by the, by the school.
- 4:39Speaker 2: I would assume they did that.
- 4:41Speaker 2: I'm not a hundred percent on when the window closes for them, but I'm.
- 4:46Speaker 2: If it's not today, then it's got to be tomorrow.
- 4:49Speaker 1: Okay, so we'll see so you're for.
- 4:51Speaker 1: Defense is the number one concern.
- 4:53Speaker 1: Right Next year it's got to be.
- 4:56Speaker 1: You got QB locked up.
- 4:58Speaker 2: That was that was number one overall.
- 4:59Speaker 1: Right.
- 5:00Speaker 2: Right, and you got that.
- 5:01Speaker 2: Finally, um, defense is definitely the front seven needs some, some beef and some muscle linebacker, especially I think if on Thompson kid out of Syracuse seems like he's going to be the most promising prospect in the portal for us to actually get, I mean, I would, I would, you know, it's an experienced guy.
- 5:21Speaker 2: I don't know man I behind that.
- 5:25Speaker 2: I don't know what they're going to do.
- 5:26Speaker 2: Hmm, you're going to be playing young guys there next year, so you really want to have as much experience upfront as you can.
- 5:33Speaker 2: Getting farmer and Jackson back would be huge Right, linebacker, linebacker, it's, it's, it's an issue man, yeah, you know there's some other guys out there.
- 5:43Speaker 2: You know Tackett Curtis, the kid from from USC, it's originally out of Louisiana.
- 5:47Speaker 2: Linebacker recruiting, everything about, yeah, has been yeah.
- 5:53Speaker 2: Where Nowhere Not existent.
- 5:55Speaker 2: Um, you get a couple guys that I'll call.
- 5:58Speaker 2: You know Randy specials that we signed.
- 6:01Speaker 1: And the guys that were just here were not that good.
- 6:06Speaker 2: I'm sorry, right Coming here Right Well now he developed them.
- 6:10Speaker 2: Delos was.
- 6:10Speaker 2: Delos was a highly rated kid.
- 6:12Speaker 2: He was.
- 6:12Speaker 2: He was a blue chip kid.
- 6:13Speaker 2: He just had no coaching under Raymond Woody.
- 6:17Speaker 1: Right.
- 6:17Speaker 2: You know zero, so it took a little bit of time to bring him along and you saw what the coaching did, man, he was amazing.
- 6:25Speaker 1: This season for us.
- 6:26Speaker 2: But then too, and Randy Shannon was coaching Tatum Bethune down at UCF.
- 6:32Speaker 2: Yeah got him to transfer.
- 6:34Speaker 2: You know, I just and I said Raymond Woody, I met Chris Marv, that's that's what I meant.
- 6:42Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, you know, dj Lundy, he was not a highly rated guy, no, and that's another credit to, to the staff overall.
- 6:49Speaker 2: But to Randy Shannon, you would have liked probably to keep him, but again, it comes down to what, what you're willing to spend and who you're willing to spend it on Right.
- 6:58Speaker 2: But linebacker recruiting, no, it has been non-existent in terms of immediate impact guys, some of these dudes, you know, even even Blake Nicholson isn't a guy that they were going to.
- 7:10Speaker 2: You know, he's not ready to start year one, probably not even year two.
- 7:16Speaker 2: We'll see.
- 7:16Speaker 2: I don't know, man, I don't know what they're going to do there.
- 7:21Speaker 2: They got to figure it out though.
- 7:22Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, well they have, they got.
- 7:26Speaker 1: Secondary is probably the best unit on the defense in terms of depth, depth guy yeah, guys that you got coming back.
- 7:33Speaker 2: You.
- 7:33Speaker 2: You signed really good safeties last year at least.
- 7:37Speaker 2: At least you know the promising prospects Conrad Hussie, kj Kirkland, ashlyn Barker.
- 7:44Speaker 2: You know they're freshmen this year.
- 7:46Speaker 2: They made some mistakes, they took their lumps, but they're still guys that you're going to.
- 7:51Speaker 2: You know they'll get better.
- 7:52Speaker 2: Yeah, same thing at corner.
- 7:55Speaker 2: You know you got some, some promising young guys.
- 7:57Speaker 2: You brought a ton in there.
- 7:58Speaker 2: Every DB they signed is a kid that can play corner, you know, and you're looking at a kid like Earl Little Jr who's going to take a visit this weekend, I believe you know transfer from Alabama.
- 8:10Speaker 2: He redshirted Pat Sertan actually coached them down at American Heritage.
- 8:14Speaker 2: So that should be the.
- 8:16Speaker 2: You know that could develop into something and he's, I think he's a kid that can play safety or corner.
- 8:20Speaker 2: So they'll, they'll add something there in the secondary.
- 8:24Speaker 2: They always, you know, and that's more like just going back to the last year's class and adding a kid.
- 8:30Speaker 2: So again, that's not as big a need as the front seven and really ultimately linebacker.
- 8:38Speaker 2: If you're not going to get a ton of experience there and you're going to have to play young guys, then you want obviously the front four to be as strong as possible.
- 8:45Speaker 2: Yes, even.
- 8:47Speaker 2: Look another kid, grady Kelly, defensive tackle at a Colorado state.
- 8:51Speaker 2: Originally from Navar, florida.
- 8:53Speaker 2: I think that's kid that they would like to add.
- 8:56Speaker 2: You don't know what Malcolm Ray is going to do.
- 8:59Speaker 2: He's taking a visit to NC state this weekend.
- 9:02Speaker 2: Oh no, yeah, you know, but he's a guy.
- 9:07Speaker 2: I think, honestly.
- 9:07Speaker 2: I think he's a guy that would probably at worst, it would be an even an even draw if you replaced him with a guy like Grady Kelly.
- 9:15Speaker 2: I think you may even make the argument there's more upside with Kelly now.
- 9:19Speaker 2: But again, perfect world, you keep both of them, but right, that's the thing.
- 9:25Speaker 1: Yeah, it's going to be hard to have depth.
- 9:30Speaker 2: Right and depth is.
- 9:32Speaker 2: You know well, we'll use an example of a kid like Lamont Green Jr that they recruited and I think there was the understanding that this kid, you know you're going to need a year to maybe even three years before you have the strength and and you know to go out there and be in every down defensive end.
- 9:49Speaker 2: And at that point you know when he gets there, when he gets ready for it, you expect that he's going to.
- 9:55Speaker 2: If he pops and develops, that he'll stay at FSU because of you know the, the legacy status, the relationship he's had with the coaching staff and like you can still recruit kids like that and and storm away in your program, so to speak.
- 10:10Speaker 2: But it's, it's definitely more difficult these days.
- 10:14Speaker 2: You know, as soon as kids get any taste of success, you know they're going to start getting hit up.
- 10:19Speaker 2: Man Right, schools are going to be looking at them, reaching them, always trying to do the musical chairs Right.
- 10:24Speaker 1: Well, it's just so hard to.
- 10:26Speaker 1: I mean, there's got to be different gauges.
- 10:27Speaker 1: There's guys that you have, like a Keon Coleman, where they know they're going to the NFL draft, like this guy that's going to A&M, yeah, and then you have that are just trying to maybe bolster that.
- 10:41Speaker 2: You're looking for the best situation, more like a Jermaine Johnson guy.
- 10:46Speaker 1: Yeah, how much playing time can I get?
- 10:48Speaker 2: How's this gonna improve my draft stock?
- 10:50Speaker 2: Still with eyes on the NFL.
- 10:52Speaker 1: Then you have the majority, though.
- 10:54Speaker 2: Right, the guys that come to the realization that there's not gonna be an NFL payout for me.
- 10:59Speaker 2: This is it.
- 11:00Speaker 2: Yeah, this is my one chance, right, and even kids that have shots at the NFL but just because of the position they play like Quincyon Judkins, the Ole Miss running back 34 touchdowns in two seasons Right, arguably the top returning running back in the SEC jumps in because, well, hey man, I play running back Number one.
- 11:23Speaker 2: The NFL ain't paying us anything.
- 11:24Speaker 2: I've already done two seasons worth of work that I've done, or a career for a lot of these other backs in college, so I'm gonna get paid off, that right now.
- 11:35Speaker 2: Right.
- 11:37Speaker 1: And.
- 11:37Speaker 2: Ole Miss ain't.
- 11:37Speaker 2: Really they're not gonna pay me that because they just went out and spent a ton of money on the number one portal class, poaching player after player from their SEC rival.
- 11:47Speaker 2: So you can't hate it, man.
- 11:52Speaker 2: It sucks for the fans if you fall in love with the players and the kid will get pushed back because people that pay money to Ole Miss's collective feel like you know he's telling them their money's not good enough or whatever.
- 12:05Speaker 2: But, dude, I got you know.
- 12:06Speaker 2: I just put up a career's worth of numbers in two seasons.
- 12:09Speaker 2: Right, I deserve to get paid.
- 12:11Speaker 2: And I'm not gonna get paid in the NFL.
- 12:12Speaker 2: Even if I go first round, what are the chances that I'm gonna get a second contract?
- 12:17Speaker 2: I'm gonna have to be an all pro running back.
- 12:20Speaker 2: So I mean, right, don't fall in love with the players.
- 12:26Speaker 2: It's essentially the message there, right?
- 12:29Speaker 2: It's musical chairs.
- 12:31Speaker 1: It is and you so defense Defense.
- 12:35Speaker 2: Defense man.
- 12:36Speaker 2: That's the name of the game, man.
- 12:38Speaker 2: There's things on offense that they're looking to add.
- 12:42Speaker 1: Go offense.
- 12:44Speaker 2: You know you get up front man.
- 12:45Speaker 2: You need some interior offensive linemen.
- 12:48Speaker 2: You know I'm just assuming that tackle will be okay.
- 12:53Speaker 2: You know you got Armella and Simmons and then buyers is returning.
- 12:56Speaker 2: You gotta hope that you can at least get two serviceable tackles out of that.
- 13:01Speaker 2: But I think they wanna add some guards.
- 13:06Speaker 2: Pearson Toomey at a Furman University Furman yeah, he was on a visit earlier in the week.
- 13:11Speaker 2: No commitment, but I don't think that means they're gonna stop recruiting him Right.
- 13:18Speaker 2: Terrence Ferguson, alabama transfer.
- 13:20Speaker 2: I think he's got two years left of eligibility, a lot of experience.
- 13:24Speaker 2: Atkins really liked him.
- 13:27Speaker 2: He recruited him hard when he was coming out of high school.
- 13:30Speaker 2: Obviously you know it's Alabama, so good luck.
- 13:33Speaker 2: But I think it's a kid.
- 13:35Speaker 2: They're bringing him in on a visit, hopefully this week, and I think that's a kid that they could have a real shot at picking up and that would be a nice boost to the offensive line.
- 13:42Speaker 2: You know you lost Big Meach.
- 13:44Speaker 2: All ACC performer Casey Roddick graduated.
- 13:49Speaker 2: But you know I think Ferguson could be an upgrade over Roddick at least.
- 13:53Speaker 2: So up front they're gonna add some guys.
- 13:55Speaker 2: They're looking for a running back, penny Boone out of Toledo.
- 13:58Speaker 2: That's the guy that's generating the most buzz, although you know if.
- 14:04Speaker 1: I like that name.
- 14:04Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah he's, he's a.
- 14:06Speaker 2: He's a big dude man.
- 14:07Speaker 2: You know 235, 240, he's a grown man.
- 14:11Speaker 1: Well, that's what you could use.
- 14:13Speaker 2: Yeah, and it's on.
- 14:14Speaker 1: You got the toe of Philly.
- 14:16Speaker 2: Right, and you think about having DJ and Penny Boone in the backfield and that's about 500 pounds of running coming at you.
- 14:23Speaker 1: So that's, yeah, the leg we are going to lay, we are going to lay, yeah, we un-golo-bo-lay do it it.
- 14:33Speaker 1: Whoo gotta work on that.
- 14:36Speaker 1: Yeah you do.
- 14:37Speaker 1: Gotta get in there, gotta get in the Film room.
- 14:40Speaker 2: It's.
- 14:40Speaker 2: It's crazy man Gonna watch him trot out and then play QB for Florida State the dr Pepper guy.
- 14:46Speaker 2: Yeah, after hating them at Clemson for To well, that's three seasons for portal, yeah, yeah don't show me immediately.
- 14:55Speaker 2: You gotta get out real Clemson's coming in the dope this year.
- 14:59Speaker 2: That's crazy.
- 15:00Speaker 2: He's like dude.
- 15:01Speaker 2: I'm getting you guys at home, right, who's it?
- 15:04Speaker 1: Oh, Oof, that'll be it.
- 15:07Speaker 1: That'll be a Heated game.
- 15:10Speaker 2: Yeah, I think, you know.
- 15:12Speaker 2: I think people are not as excited about picking him up at quarterback because of his history of Clinton.
- 15:18Speaker 2: You know they're trying to just get used to it.
- 15:19Speaker 1: No, it's a huge pick up it is, it's a numbers game, I mean you think about the to be able to be a portal.
- 15:25Speaker 1: They went after the top two guys.
- 15:27Speaker 1: Yeah, and the top guy is Still kind of I mean cam ward is is he?
- 15:35Speaker 2: he declared for the NFL.
- 15:36Speaker 2: He didn't sign with an agent because what's Miami gonna do?
- 15:39Speaker 2: Well, we can get into speculation now.
- 15:41Speaker 2: Oh, because I got some.
- 15:44Speaker 2: I got some thoughts, man, all right, a couple.
- 15:47Speaker 2: Hey, yeah, there you go.
- 15:49Speaker 2: Q the music.
- 15:50Speaker 2: It's the hottest.
- 15:58Speaker 2: May not even need grains of salt with this Miami quarterback, miami QB developments.
- 16:05Speaker 2: Yeah, so Justin, guy who hit the portal Baby to a yeah, the younger brother from Maryland, from Maryland as a grad transfer.
- 16:18Speaker 2: Now here's the kicker.
- 16:21Speaker 2: He needs a waiver to be eligible.
- 16:24Speaker 2: Hmm, because he played five games in 2019, so he can't count it as a redshirt year and this would be year number six.
- 16:35Speaker 1: So he doesn't have an eligibility?
- 16:37Speaker 2: Yes, I pending in it right now I am of the opinion that, dude, there aren't any rules for anything anymore, right, you know?
- 16:45Speaker 2: We just had An offensive lineman play his seventh year.
- 16:49Speaker 2: Dennis Briggs is Trying for a seventh year, you know.
- 16:53Speaker 2: So there's not really any rules anymore.
- 16:55Speaker 2: So I think once that waiver clears, I think it'll clear why not.
- 16:59Speaker 2: You know that he'll be Miami's quarterback.
- 17:02Speaker 1: Why not?
- 17:03Speaker 1: I can't play in the NFL, right?
- 17:05Speaker 1: Can I just come back and keep playing in college till I'm like 30?
- 17:07Speaker 2: Well you exhausted, your other be.
- 17:08Speaker 2: Are you kidding me?
- 17:09Speaker 2: Well, and here's eligibility the last two games he came in.
- 17:12Speaker 2: He came in game five when he was at a game with graduate degrees.
- 17:17Speaker 2: Yeah, graduate degrees.
- 17:18Speaker 2: What are you studying?
- 17:19Speaker 2: I don't know, marie, bio mechanicery, right?
- 17:22Speaker 2: Who knows?
- 17:22Speaker 2: Dude, I'm in college.
- 17:24Speaker 2: I swear there's no rules, yeah, so I think that'll be.
- 17:27Speaker 2: That'll be Miami's quarterback.
- 17:29Speaker 2: Who's?
- 17:30Speaker 2: That to me.
- 17:30Speaker 2: Yeah, baby to a man.
- 17:32Speaker 1: You're gonna have a double verse to a whoo verse.
- 17:34Speaker 2: Yeah, whoo was to a.
- 17:36Speaker 2: It's gonna be a good game, man.
- 17:38Speaker 2: Yeah down in hard rock.
- 17:40Speaker 1: Oh yeah.
- 17:40Speaker 2: Now, for some reason, the fascist twin and his, his waiver gets denied.
- 17:45Speaker 2: I can see Miami looking at a kid like Caden Salter.
- 17:50Speaker 2: Maybe Gets a little bit, gets a little bit murkier.
- 17:54Speaker 1: Well, yeah, well, right now, Miami if you talk to the those, you know Florida's got a good situation at quarterback.
- 18:01Speaker 2: They do.
- 18:01Speaker 2: They got their guy this year right With that schedule looming.
- 18:06Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, they got the quarterback of the future to yeah, yeah that was a big get, national player of the year.
- 18:13Speaker 1: Right, Florida State got their quarterback too, and yeah they got the guy they wanted, so now they're bringing in DJ To bridge that gap right.
- 18:24Speaker 2: And I think they're, you know they're not ruling out Brock man.
- 18:27Speaker 1: I know he's had some, some really tough situations to be put in if he comes in and beats out DJ.
- 18:33Speaker 1: Now he's not beating out DJ, right, but these guys have these.
- 18:38Speaker 1: You don't want them playing next year?
- 18:40Speaker 2: No, you don't, and I think that's kind of that that's gonna be better for DJs, if he comes in knowing like hey, man, nobody's looking over your shoulder, right, you're the guy optimize your chance right, right.
- 18:51Speaker 1: This would never happen In in an era where he would be gone, probably already kicked off.
- 18:56Speaker 1: He would already be in the like the uf.
- 18:59Speaker 1: He would already be in that because he would probably wouldn't have made it in NFL.
- 19:02Speaker 1: Yeah, it's done, you know, because they won't.
- 19:05Speaker 1: He wouldn't have been allowed to transfer as many times.
- 19:09Speaker 2: So this gives him a chance to keep developing right if he wouldn't have been able to transfer at all or just only once.
- 19:14Speaker 2: Sit out and yeah, yeah, it would have been really tough for him because, oh yeah.
- 19:19Speaker 1: So this is what you need to do every year, but you don't.
- 19:23Speaker 1: It's not ideal to do this.
- 19:24Speaker 1: You know, I don't think fsu is looking to Do this.
- 19:29Speaker 1: This was to bridge the gap and talent discrepancy that they had.
- 19:32Speaker 1: This you want to operate like Georgia and Alabama?
- 19:36Speaker 2: Oh yeah, man, It'd be great to not miss on qbs every class that you recruit them.
- 19:41Speaker 2: But this is, this is about.
- 19:43Speaker 2: You know, missing, so to speak, on a j duffy and missing on chubba purdy, yep, um, you know, you can say what you want about tape Rodney Macra.
- 19:51Speaker 2: I don't think he was ever recruited as the sole intention of this is going to be the future of right.
- 19:56Speaker 2: You know we're going to bring him in because he has some tools to work with and see, see if he develops.
- 20:01Speaker 2: You know, give him a shot.
- 20:03Speaker 1: So Saying that You're looking at a guy and Travis, who wasn't recruited by Norville, no, so he hasn't had his guy yet.
- 20:15Speaker 2: No, no, no, like he hasn't gone and picked a kid out of high school and developed that kid into the starter, and We'll see if this is it with Glenn and now what's that say?
- 20:26Speaker 1: I think that says more about this what you have because he, what he wants and what he can go get now with the change of the rules right.
- 20:34Speaker 1: Well, you look at you could also have a pitch the other way, oh, we can't develop quarterback.
- 20:38Speaker 1: Well, I Didn't want to have to go through the the growing pains of doing that when I can go out and upgrade that position Right, right, and you brought in a guy and McKinsey Milton to back.
- 20:51Speaker 1: You know that was gonna breed competition.
- 20:53Speaker 2: You have a standard that you're looking for and what he clearly wants is Experience right that leadership, quality of experience and and being able to handle everything mentally, that Every situation you're gonna face.
- 21:07Speaker 2: Yeah really tough to find a young kid that's immediately ready to do that right.
- 21:11Speaker 2: And you go back and you look at, say, duffy and Purdy.
- 21:14Speaker 2: And you know chubba Purdy was the first class that that Well signed.
- 21:18Speaker 2: He came in, he had to grab a guy.
- 21:20Speaker 2: You know, I think Roddemaker was a tagger take.
- 21:23Speaker 2: Yeah, you know he came.
- 21:26Speaker 2: He's like you know what tape will take you, but I'm gonna, I'm gonna grab a guy.
- 21:29Speaker 2: You know you remember Jeff Sims hit the, hit the bricks.
- 21:32Speaker 2: Yeah so I Don't want to say that he didn't do his due diligence and scouting him, but I mean, you know, when you're coming into Florida State and you may not have been recruiting this kid when you're at Memphis, so yeah, it's, it's realistic to think that, okay, we missed on that kid.
- 21:51Speaker 2: Now, with AJ Duffy, this is a guy that that Dillingham Recruited, so you get into how much is Norvell letting the QB coaches kind of determine what guys they want to work with.
- 22:01Speaker 2: You know, yeah, you read the the Croman Hawk story.
- 22:04Speaker 2: They saw him throw when he was a freshman and we're like, hey, who's this kid?
- 22:08Speaker 2: You know he's a backup, you know he's playing wide receiver and you know, sometimes getting in at garbage time but red, there was no film on or anything like that.
- 22:15Speaker 2: So they, they saw him throw, they liked him to like go after him now and that's Tony Tokars is Deserves a ton of credit for working with with Jordan Travis the QB coach.
- 22:27Speaker 2: Yeah, so Travis wasn't a guy they picked out of high school, but they developed development was a hundred percent on right.
- 22:35Speaker 2: The staff Dillingham and later Tokars, right Atkins that's what I felt.
- 22:40Speaker 2: Yeah, but it's also on the kid.
- 22:42Speaker 1: Yes, right, and you, and that's why you're gonna have these.
- 22:45Speaker 1: It's a numbers game, right, and you have the standard that you need to see and you can't assume that all these guys are gonna have it, especially with nowadays in high school.
- 22:55Speaker 1: You're not.
- 22:55Speaker 1: You don't know that this kid's highly rated because he's beaten up on a Weaker class.
- 23:01Speaker 1: You know he's not.
- 23:02Speaker 1: He hasn't played against the competition.
- 23:04Speaker 1: Yeah, you know how do you know what he's gonna fair and, like, you know if he's been playing against?
- 23:10Speaker 2: Yeah competition, he's been dominating the biggest thing, man with QB, like the biggest determiner, determination of like how you bust at QB.
- 23:21Speaker 2: It is between the ears, it's when they get up a level and when they can process it and when they can't.
- 23:26Speaker 2: You look at Malachi Nelson out at USC.
- 23:28Speaker 2: You know, the number one QB coming out of high school a couple years ago.
- 23:31Speaker 2: Just never put it together.
- 23:33Speaker 2: Now he's.
- 23:34Speaker 2: He's going to Boise State, you know it's not a terrible spot to land, but not what you would think.
- 23:40Speaker 2: When the guy is the number one QB you expected.
- 23:43Speaker 1: All right, caleb Williams, I'm going somewhere, you know well, that's a at a rankings position, quarterback can't when you rent.
- 23:50Speaker 1: Most of those are based on physical abilities.
- 23:53Speaker 2: It's all based on physical right, so you can the quarterbacks in one position where she even Even DJ Lagway, even DJ Lagway.
- 24:01Speaker 2: Right, you look, you look at his tape.
- 24:03Speaker 2: You looking like he is so clearly more Advanced and physically developed in anybody he's playing against right.
- 24:12Speaker 2: That's what I was saying, yeah, you could.
- 24:14Speaker 1: usually that's why these All high school all-star games were so compelling is you would be able to finally see guys playing their own right.
- 24:22Speaker 1: Right, and they'd be like hey, let me see this tape, but now you don't see that anymore, because because there's no point in it.
- 24:28Speaker 2: You know why?
- 24:28Speaker 1: because I already got my scholarship and that's money that I'm risked right if I already got my commitment because I've been Highly touted and right this under armor all-american game.
- 24:37Speaker 2: Ain't paying me money to come out playing the all-star right?
- 24:38Speaker 2: You know this school is paying me money to come here and play.
- 24:41Speaker 2: I'm not right out there.
- 24:43Speaker 1: Right, it was just, it's just changed so much, yeah, and so high school, you have to have a standard of what you need out of the position and you have to get it.
- 24:52Speaker 1: However, you have to get it right, dude, there's one ideally you wanted a certain way, but yeah.
- 24:58Speaker 2: You have to make the and that's, you know, everybody's done it high school, high school, high school because you've been able to just stash him for three, four or five years.
- 25:06Speaker 2: But as that continues to just go away, you're gonna start seeing.
- 25:10Speaker 2: Well, more and more programs start dipping and depend a little more heavily on and.
- 25:15Speaker 1: And the culture.
- 25:16Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, depend on the culture depend on the culture of money.
- 25:19Speaker 1: Yeah, the culture of money.
- 25:20Speaker 1: Oh yeah that is the culture of college football.
- 25:24Speaker 2: Yeah, that everyone it always has been.
- 25:26Speaker 2: Yes, it always has been, but now everybody's right on the front table.
- 25:29Speaker 2: Now, the people that have always deserved to be able to capitalize have never been able to capitalize, and now that they can, we should go around.
- 25:37Speaker 1: Yeah, oh, he got Clothes at a department, yeah they got shoes.
- 25:43Speaker 2: He only had to pay $34 for six polo shirts.
- 25:45Speaker 1: No, I mean dude, it's how many shoes you gonna get, yeah they get mad.
- 25:50Speaker 2: They get mad at this.
- 25:51Speaker 2: Kid Judkins is facing all kinds of old mesh backlash, you know, and then ungrateful, and all this and it's like dude, Come on yeah.
- 25:59Speaker 2: I just put a career's worth of Production out there in two seasons.
- 26:03Speaker 2: I deserve to get paid, I deserve to capitalize on all this.
- 26:07Speaker 2: So, but yeah, that's portal combat for you, man.
- 26:11Speaker 2: Oh.
- 26:13Speaker 1: Well, that would get on out of here.
- 26:15Speaker 2: Yeah, I think Florida State will do perfectly fine in the portal this year.
- 26:20Speaker 2: It's not going to be a big sexy class that it was last year, you know, with Keon, coleman and Fiske and it just, it depends on how good DJ does.
- 26:28Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, it does you talk about it I?
- 26:32Speaker 1: mean, you get a quarterback.
- 26:33Speaker 2: Well, that's.
- 26:34Speaker 2: Like I said, man, if he hadn't played for Clemson, let's say he would have played for, like USC for the first few years.
- 26:40Speaker 1: Let's go back to his high school rankings.
- 26:41Speaker 1: He was just the guy that was ranked ahead of yeah Well he's got an NFL arm Right.
- 26:47Speaker 2: The arm is there, he's got the talent.
- 26:48Speaker 2: The things that have held him back have been, you know, breakdowns in his mechanics and dude.
- 26:53Speaker 2: His confidence at Clemson was shot.
- 26:56Speaker 2: That last year he played at Clemson.
- 26:58Speaker 2: It's still won an ACC title, by the way.
- 27:00Speaker 2: Yeah, like you could tell man he had been just demoralized playing in that school.
- 27:05Speaker 2: So Mark McAllen has been Clemson rolls into dope man Woo.
- 27:11Speaker 1: I was going to say I saw him play against Florida State in that game.
- 27:15Speaker 1: That was maybe his best game of his career.
- 27:17Speaker 2: Yeah, dude, he was throwing touchdowns with guys hanging on him Right.
- 27:20Speaker 2: That's the part.
- 27:21Speaker 1: You have a To.
- 27:23Speaker 1: Physically, you got a guy that's.
- 27:27Speaker 1: You haven't had a guy like him, since James physically Like a big guy that can stand in there and take it and that's going to be key man.
- 27:34Speaker 1: Let's just see if we can get that confidence, get that toughness to develop.
- 27:38Speaker 1: That's going to be the key to how good next year's team can be and you know these receivers who, these young guys, are going to step up.
- 27:48Speaker 1: Or they'll go get a proven playmaker in the portal?
- 27:51Speaker 1: Yes, hopefully, but you're not going to get a guy like Calvert Key on Coleman.
- 27:55Speaker 1: No, there is Johnny Wilson, so you're going to have to have that step up.
- 27:59Speaker 2: I think you're going to see how Keem and Kentron guys that are already here are going to be ready to make that leap Right, and I think they're depending on that Right.
- 28:07Speaker 1: See Jimbo out there.
- 28:12Speaker 2: Man.
- 28:12Speaker 2: It's good to see him get back to his senses.
- 28:15Speaker 2: Man I like it.
- 28:16Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean just calling it like.
- 28:18Speaker 2: I said he's not happy about the way it ended here.
- 28:20Speaker 2: Either man.
- 28:20Speaker 1: No.
- 28:21Speaker 2: You know, it is what it is.
- 28:22Speaker 1: But don't remember, don't forget what he did when he was here and had it rolling.
- 28:26Speaker 2: It was one of the best teams ever the way he put it.
- 28:29Speaker 2: What did he say about this year?
- 28:30Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, should have had bonus points.
- 28:35Speaker 2: Yeah, I would have had him bonus points playing.
- 28:37Speaker 1: that Well, coaches know.
- 28:38Speaker 1: Yeah, they know man.
- 28:39Speaker 1: Well, we got more to keep an eye on.
- 28:41Speaker 1: We'll keep an eye on those transfers as they come through and we'll react to it.
- 28:45Speaker 1: And we'll talk to you next time right here on the North Florida Sports Network.
