Latest / The Epstein Chronicles / Ghislaine Maxwell Has Her Trial Postponed After Getting Hit With A Superseded Indictment

- 0:00Speaker 1: We thought that the Maxwell trial might be postponed, and
- 0:05Speaker 1: as of yesterday, in a ruling made by Judge Nathan,
- 0:09Speaker 1: that is exactly where we find ourselves now. The original
- 0:13Speaker 1: trial was scheduled to kick off on July twelfth. Now,
- 0:18Speaker 1: according to Judge Nathan, and due to the superseding indictment
- 0:23Speaker 1: and the vast expansiveness of this case, she has decided
- 0:29Speaker 1: to go ahead and push it back a little bit now,
- 0:34Speaker 1: she says, the fall. So that could be you know,
- 0:37Speaker 1: all the way up till December, right, So who knows
- 0:40Speaker 1: exactly when the trial is going to start now, but
- 0:44Speaker 1: sometime during the fall. Now, as you all know, I
- 0:48Speaker 1: planned on going in in July and staying for roughly
- 0:52Speaker 1: a month to cover the whole entire trial from start
- 0:56Speaker 1: to finish. Well, with this being pushed back into fall
- 1:01Speaker 1: and work starting up again for me and you know,
- 1:04Speaker 1: real life, it's it's going to be a juggling act
- 1:09Speaker 1: for sure. But I'm going to at least for at
- 1:14Speaker 1: the very least get there for two weeks of that trial,
- 1:18Speaker 1: no matter when it starts. Now, probably I'll probably try
- 1:23Speaker 1: and set it up where I get there for you know,
- 1:27Speaker 1: the ending of the trial where we get to the
- 1:29Speaker 1: sentencing phase and all of that. If it's only a
- 1:32Speaker 1: two week stretch, now, maybe I'll be able to figure
- 1:36Speaker 1: it out and still stay for the whole month, But
- 1:40Speaker 1: I'm not too sure about that. I had it all,
- 1:42Speaker 1: you know, planned for July, so I'm gonna have to
- 1:46Speaker 1: go back and look at the schedule and try and
- 1:49Speaker 1: make some adjustments to try and stretch it out to
- 1:52Speaker 1: stay for the whole month. But at the very least
- 1:55Speaker 1: I'll still be there for two weeks. But with the
- 1:59Speaker 1: postpone and pushing it back, it just makes it a
- 2:02Speaker 1: little bit more difficult to you know, juggle all of
- 2:05Speaker 1: the knives in the air. Right. But I had a
- 2:09Speaker 1: sneaking suspicion that this would occur, so I didn't get
- 2:12Speaker 1: locked into any of my travel dates as far as uh,
- 2:15Speaker 1: you know, airfare and stuff like that. So I'm still
- 2:19Speaker 1: flexible in that regard, meaning I wasn't locked in financially
- 2:25Speaker 1: to this date or anything like that. But the other
- 2:30Speaker 1: part of it is my time. I really just don't
- 2:32Speaker 1: know where things are going to be come this trial now.
- 2:37Speaker 1: As far as what I'm going to be doing professionally
- 2:41Speaker 1: the last oh, I don't know eighteen months or so,
- 2:44Speaker 1: I've been able to just really focus on this podcast
- 2:47Speaker 1: because of everything being shut down in my fields of professionalism,
- 2:53Speaker 1: you know, with hospitality being closed down and then obviously
- 2:57Speaker 1: no entertainment. I've had oodles of time on my hands
- 3:02Speaker 1: to work on the podcast and to travel to New
- 3:05Speaker 1: Mexico talk to other sources in other places, and I've
- 3:10Speaker 1: had just tons of time to do that. But with
- 3:13Speaker 1: the city opening up and you know, work popping back up,
- 3:18Speaker 1: obviously your boys going to try and dive in and
- 3:23Speaker 1: try and recoup some of this money that's been lost
- 3:25Speaker 1: over this disastrous twenty twenty. So I'm gonna try my
- 3:31Speaker 1: best to make sure that I could be in New
- 3:33Speaker 1: York for the whole month for this trial, but I
- 3:38Speaker 1: just can't promise that at this point. So guaranteed two weeks. However,
- 3:44Speaker 1: I can always find a way for two weeks to
- 3:47Speaker 1: finagle my way into New York, for sure, but a
- 3:49Speaker 1: whole month just might not be doable at this point. Again,
- 3:53Speaker 1: not for sure, We'll see how it goes. But just
- 3:56Speaker 1: giving you folks the heads up a few months out
- 3:59Speaker 1: that you know, with it moving from July, it's going
- 4:03Speaker 1: to be a little bit more difficult for me to
- 4:06Speaker 1: be in New York for the whole entire month. So
- 4:09Speaker 1: I'm gonna try and make it happen. Obviously, I'm gonna
- 4:11Speaker 1: do everything in my power to make it happen, and
- 4:16Speaker 1: you know, make it so that I'm there for as
- 4:20Speaker 1: much of the trial as possible, But I just can't
- 4:23Speaker 1: commit to that right this second, a whole month right
- 4:26Speaker 1: now before I see what my you know, my schedule
- 4:29Speaker 1: is with with work coming back and stuff like that.
- 4:32Speaker 1: So we're gonna have to play that by ear folks
- 4:35Speaker 1: and see what's up and see what the lay of
- 4:37Speaker 1: the land is come time of the trial. But one
- 4:40Speaker 1: thing is for sure, you can guarantee that I'm gonna
- 4:43Speaker 1: be there for at least two weeks. So that's where
- 4:47Speaker 1: we're at with the whole postponement right now and my
- 4:50Speaker 1: personal travel plans and what my plans are as far
- 4:54Speaker 1: as covering that trial. Now, with that said, there's a
- 4:59Speaker 1: lot of restrictions opening up in a lot of states,
- 5:03Speaker 1: and if I can figure out a way to get
- 5:05Speaker 1: into New Mexico without being quarantined and all of that stuff,
- 5:09Speaker 1: if they lift some of the restrictions and that kind
- 5:12Speaker 1: of situation down there. Then what I'm thinking about doing is,
- 5:16Speaker 1: instead of, you know, the New York trip in July
- 5:18Speaker 1: for the trial, maybe cruising back down to New Mexico
- 5:22Speaker 1: in July instead and taking another run at Zoro Ranch.
- 5:26Speaker 1: This time. I have a few different pieces of gear
- 5:29Speaker 1: that'll go a long way to us getting some more
- 5:32Speaker 1: footage and better pictures and stuff. When I went in February,
- 5:35Speaker 1: I was it was really bare bones, right, the podcast
- 5:38Speaker 1: had only been going for a few months. I really
- 5:40Speaker 1: didn't know what I was doing for the most part.
- 5:43Speaker 1: But I got down there and I spoke with some sources,
- 5:46Speaker 1: and I got a lay of the land, got down
- 5:48Speaker 1: to Zoro Ranch itself, and yeah, maybe July will take
- 5:54Speaker 1: a look at that, making another run down to Zoro Ranch.
- 5:57Speaker 1: Considering we can't go into New York in July obviously
- 6:00Speaker 1: because there's no trial. So you know, we have a
- 6:03Speaker 1: couple of different balls in the air, folks, and we're
- 6:05Speaker 1: gonna see what's what. But h if there's no restrictions
- 6:10Speaker 1: in July going to New Mexico, then I'm pretty sure
- 6:15Speaker 1: that I'm gonna head back down. So obviously I'll keep
- 6:18Speaker 1: you all updated on what my plans are and which
- 6:22Speaker 1: way the wind is blowing. But that's where we're at
- 6:25Speaker 1: as of now, folks, as far as my travel plans
- 6:29Speaker 1: and what I plan to do as far as covering
- 6:33Speaker 1: this case from here on out. So let's jump into
- 6:37Speaker 1: the article about the postponement and let's see what Adam
- 6:41Speaker 1: Klassfeld and Lawn Crime has to say about the Gilean
- 6:46Speaker 1: Maxwell trial being postponed until the fall. This article was
- 6:52Speaker 1: authored by Adam Klassfeld at Lawn Crime headline. Judge of
- 6:58Speaker 1: Jordans Gillan Maxwell's trial until the fall because of new
- 7:02Speaker 1: sex trafficking indictment. A federal judge has postponed Gilaine Maxwell's
- 7:07Speaker 1: trial until the fall of this year, citing the prosecution's
- 7:11Speaker 1: decision to bring a new indictment in late March, adding
- 7:15Speaker 1: federal sex trafficking charges. Again, we thought that this was
- 7:19Speaker 1: going to happen, you know, this is the sort of
- 7:21Speaker 1: thing that you have to expect in these kinds of
- 7:24Speaker 1: federal cases. These things draw out over a period of
- 7:27Speaker 1: years most times, and when we're dealing with high profile
- 7:32Speaker 1: people like Maxwell and such a high profile case, I
- 7:36Speaker 1: figured that's where we where we where we would be
- 7:38Speaker 1: at here, And as much as it pains me and
- 7:43Speaker 1: as much as I don't like it, I understand why
- 7:47Speaker 1: the court has acquiesced to this request and decided to
- 7:50Speaker 1: push it back a little bit. And you also can
- 7:54Speaker 1: understand why Maxwell's people were going so hard at Bell right.
- 7:58Speaker 1: They knew that they were going to push for this adjournment.
- 8:01Speaker 1: They knew they were going to push for this continuation,
- 8:05Speaker 1: so they wanted to do the full court press to
- 8:08Speaker 1: try and get Maxwell out on bail so that she could,
- 8:11Speaker 1: you know, live in the lapses of luxury while they
- 8:15Speaker 1: pushed this case back and try to kick the can
- 8:17Speaker 1: down the road a little bit further. And that's where
- 8:22Speaker 1: we're at now, right. So we got the adjournment, we
- 8:27Speaker 1: got the continuance, and now we're just waiting on Judge
- 8:32Speaker 1: Nathan to give us an actual date, and that will
- 8:34Speaker 1: come after the defense and the prosecution confer. Having carefully
- 8:42Speaker 1: considered the party's respective positions, the court grants Maxwell's request
- 8:47Speaker 1: for a short continuance until the fall of twenty twenty
- 8:50Speaker 1: one to allow the defense to prepare for the additional
- 8:53Speaker 1: charges brought in the second superseding indictment. US District Judge
- 8:58Speaker 1: Allison Nathan wrote and also it's more time. I think
- 9:03Speaker 1: this is a double edged sword for Maxwell because there's
- 9:07Speaker 1: nothing on the books to say that the government can't
- 9:09Speaker 1: slap more charges on her. Conspiracy charges, Rico charges. What
- 9:14Speaker 1: about the Man Act? Why haven't Why hasn't the whole
- 9:18Speaker 1: book been thrown at her? You see what the government
- 9:21Speaker 1: likes to do. Usually say you're a middle level level
- 9:24Speaker 1: operating associate for the Kosinostra, Right, well, they're gonna slap
- 9:29Speaker 1: you with one hundred Rico charges in the hopes that
- 9:31Speaker 1: one or two stick. Why isn't the same sort of
- 9:37Speaker 1: pressure and force being applied to Maxwell and all of
- 9:40Speaker 1: her rich friends. Oh it's great that they're being prosecuted,
- 9:44Speaker 1: don't get me wrong, folks, I'm ecstatic about that. But
- 9:47Speaker 1: let's be real. Why have they not been charged with
- 9:53Speaker 1: Rico charges yet? I just don't understand it. There is
- 9:56Speaker 1: no justification for them not having the CA complete book
- 10:00Speaker 1: thrown at them. Now, maybe during this period where there
- 10:05Speaker 1: is this continuance, this adjournment, maybe the federal government slaps
- 10:09Speaker 1: her with more indictments. Now. I don't know for sure
- 10:15Speaker 1: that's going to happen, but there certainly is enough evidence
- 10:18Speaker 1: there to drop a big, fat, gigantic rico case right
- 10:23Speaker 1: in her lap, and add that to the eight charges
- 10:26Speaker 1: she's already facing. The court rejects Maxwell's alternative request to
- 10:32Speaker 1: continue the trial date until January of twenty twenty two,
- 10:36Speaker 1: and the government's alternative proposal that the court adjourned trial
- 10:40Speaker 1: until March of twenty twenty two. So basically, the government
- 10:45Speaker 1: and Maxwell both offer to push this trial back until
- 10:49Speaker 1: twenty twenty two, and Judge Nathan is not having it.
- 10:53Speaker 1: She says, Nope, We're not going to push it to
- 10:56Speaker 1: twenty twenty two. I want this done in the fall. Now.
- 11:01Speaker 1: What's interesting to me anyway, is that the government was
- 11:04Speaker 1: willing to push it to March of twenty twenty two.
- 11:08Speaker 1: We're talking ten months out. Why would they be willing
- 11:13Speaker 1: to do that, folks, What does the government have up
- 11:18Speaker 1: their very long sleeve. Federal prosecutors opposed any delay as
- 11:26Speaker 1: stressful to the survivors. Yeah, look, one hundred percent, imagine
- 11:31Speaker 1: being one of these girls going through this BS. At
- 11:35Speaker 1: every turn there's a postponement, a continuation. The federal government
- 11:41Speaker 1: is offering, you, you know, platitudes and apologies, but no justice.
- 11:47Speaker 1: It just seems like a nightmare that's never going to
- 11:50Speaker 1: end for them. And I know, just as an outsider
- 11:53Speaker 1: from the outside looking in who has covered this case
- 11:57Speaker 1: every single day since October of two thousand nineteen, that
- 12:02Speaker 1: I've felt that in my soul as well. I want
- 12:07Speaker 1: this case to be over and done with and put
- 12:09Speaker 1: in the rear view mirror of folks. I know there's
- 12:12Speaker 1: some people that want this case to go on forever,
- 12:15Speaker 1: and they don't care that the survivors are burdened, they
- 12:17Speaker 1: don't care about any of that. But me personally, I
- 12:21Speaker 1: want this shit to be over and done with and
- 12:24Speaker 1: put on a shelf with a nice little bow. This
- 12:29Speaker 1: has been one of the most excruciating grinds mentally for me.
- 12:34Speaker 1: I have ever been involved with more than college, more
- 12:38Speaker 1: than projects professionally at work when I've worked in the
- 12:41Speaker 1: financial sector or an entertainment This has been a mental
- 12:47Speaker 1: grind like I have never experienced. So I can't even
- 12:51Speaker 1: begin to imagine what the people who have actually suffered
- 12:54Speaker 1: at the hands of this man have felt throughout this
- 12:58Speaker 1: And then again another gut shot with the trial being postponed.
- 13:05Speaker 1: The longer this case remains pending, the longer the survivors
- 13:09Speaker 1: suffered the anxiety of anticipating their trial testimony and uncertainty
- 13:13Speaker 1: of awaiting a resolution, prosecutors wrote late late last month.
- 13:18Speaker 1: As a result, multiple survivors oppose any adjournment of the
- 13:22Speaker 1: trial date. And I understand that completely right again, Like
- 13:27Speaker 1: I was just saying, who wants to deal with this
- 13:28Speaker 1: shit every single day of their life? Imagine being the
- 13:32Speaker 1: person trying to live it, and at every turn you're
- 13:38Speaker 1: denied justice, You're denied your chance in court, and once
- 13:43Speaker 1: again justice is pushed back. So I get why it
- 13:47Speaker 1: would be frustrating, why it would be stressful for these gals.
- 13:55Speaker 1: A grand jury brought a new indictment against Maxwell after
- 13:58Speaker 1: prosecutors supplemented their case with someone known only in court
- 14:02Speaker 1: documents as Minor Victim. Four other anonymous survivors told prosecutors
- 14:07Speaker 1: they wanted a speedy trial. Look, there is no doubt
- 14:14Speaker 1: that we should have a speedy trial and that these
- 14:18Speaker 1: these survivors should have their day in court. Right, it
- 14:25Speaker 1: should have happened years ago, and here we are once
- 14:29Speaker 1: again a couple months out. Let's kick the can down
- 14:33Speaker 1: the road just a little bit further. Very frustrating. Indeed,
- 14:40Speaker 1: in particular, Minor Survivor three expressed feeling significant stress during
- 14:46Speaker 1: the pendency of this case and a strong desire to
- 14:49Speaker 1: have the case brought to a close through trial as
- 14:52Speaker 1: soon as possible. Prosecutors wrote in April. Minor Survivor two
- 14:57Speaker 1: also indicated that she has experienced in a enormous amount
- 15:00Speaker 1: of stress while this case has been pending and wishes
- 15:04Speaker 1: to see the case brought to trial. And you, I mean,
- 15:07Speaker 1: how can anyone blame these gals for wanting that over
- 15:13Speaker 1: and over and over, year after year, day after day,
- 15:16Speaker 1: minute after minute, second after second. They're burdened with what
- 15:21Speaker 1: occurred here. So it's about time that we stop the nonsense, right,
- 15:28Speaker 1: we stop kicking the can down the road, and we
- 15:32Speaker 1: start to administer a little bit of justice. Now again,
- 15:35Speaker 1: I understand why there is a delay here. I get it,
- 15:38Speaker 1: and looking at it from a you know, completely detached viewpoint,
- 15:47Speaker 1: understanding completely why this trial was delayed. That doesn't mean
- 15:51Speaker 1: I have to like it, right, Nathan acknowledged the court
- 15:56Speaker 1: is very mindful of the countervailing considerations that were acquire
- 16:00Speaker 1: that any adjournment be no longer than necessary, But the
- 16:04Speaker 1: judge added that the additional charges which extend the timeframe
- 16:08Speaker 1: of the alleged conspiracy and introduce a new alleged survivor.
- 16:12Speaker 1: Spells more work for Maxwell's defense, And that's a fact, right,
- 16:16Speaker 1: And again, as much as I don't like it, I
- 16:20Speaker 1: understand it. And if it was me, I'd want the
- 16:22Speaker 1: extra time to prepare probably as well. So sometimes in
- 16:29Speaker 1: life we don't like things, right, but we're forced to
- 16:32Speaker 1: accept them. These additions will require the defense to one
- 16:38Speaker 1: review a substantial amount of discovery that is now potentially
- 16:42Speaker 1: irrelevant as a result of the S two indictment, two
- 16:46Speaker 1: re review discovery that it had previously considered in light
- 16:51Speaker 1: of the changes to the case against her, Three conduct
- 16:54Speaker 1: new investigations based on the new charges, including potential interviews
- 16:58Speaker 1: of new witnesses, and for reevaluate her trial preparation and strategy.
- 17:05Speaker 1: The judge's ruling states, So basically, it's to give Maxwell's
- 17:09Speaker 1: team time to reevaluate their position, to talk to new
- 17:14Speaker 1: alleged witnesses, and to try and formulate their defense into
- 17:18Speaker 1: something that is acceptable to Maxwell. I guess though New
- 17:26Speaker 1: York is readying to open up again after long periods
- 17:28Speaker 1: of COVID nineteen restrictions and lockdowns. The judge added that
- 17:32Speaker 1: the pandemic remains a complicating factor. Sorry, it shouldn't if
- 17:37Speaker 1: people have been vaccinated. This should all be a moot
- 17:41Speaker 1: point right now. You know, I'm really getting tired of
- 17:45Speaker 1: this being used as a crutch. Do the people's work,
- 17:49Speaker 1: all right. The court system can't shut down because of this.
- 17:52Speaker 1: We have no more excuses. As the government indicated in
- 17:57Speaker 1: explaining the delay and filing the new charge, travel constraints
- 18:01Speaker 1: and other safety concerns resulting from the pandemic have slow
- 18:05Speaker 1: trial preparation and complicated the logistics of conducting investigations. She noted. Now,
- 18:11Speaker 1: don't get me wrong, when the pandemic was raging, right
- 18:14Speaker 1: and before the vaccine was here, and you know, there
- 18:16Speaker 1: is a lot of uncertainty, I understand, But moving forward,
- 18:20Speaker 1: I don't want to hear any of that bullshit. All
- 18:22Speaker 1: these people are vaccinated, right, they all got the fauci auci.
- 18:25Speaker 1: So let's just keep it moving now, folks. All right,
- 18:28Speaker 1: we have to learn to adapt. We can't be shutting
- 18:32Speaker 1: the whole world down anymore. All right, It's time to
- 18:35Speaker 1: you know, get things going. Prosecutors that argued that delay
- 18:42Speaker 1: was unnecessary because Maxwell succeeded in splitting her upcoming trial
- 18:46Speaker 1: in two. The first trial will have a jury evaluating
- 18:50Speaker 1: claims that Maxwell engaged in sex trafficking and groomed and
- 18:54Speaker 1: abused Jeffrey Epstein's survivors. The second will assess whether she
- 18:59Speaker 1: lied about it under oath in civil litigation with Virginia Roberts,
- 19:03Speaker 1: who alleged that Maxwell defamed her by denying it. So
- 19:07Speaker 1: there was a bifurcation of the cases, right. We had
- 19:11Speaker 1: the two trials now split off from the original one,
- 19:15Speaker 1: and the prosecution was hoping that since the trial was
- 19:18Speaker 1: split into two, that we wouldn't need to have this postponement.
- 19:24Speaker 1: But obviously Nathan thinks differently. Judge Nathan, and she's well
- 19:28Speaker 1: within her scope of power to make this decision. Although
- 19:33Speaker 1: the perjury counts were recently severed, the court cannot conclude
- 19:37Speaker 1: that this sufficiently offsets the additional burdens placed on the
- 19:41Speaker 1: defense as a result of the new charges and expanded
- 19:45Speaker 1: time frame resulting from the s to indictment. Nathan's ruling states,
- 19:50Speaker 1: so again, she's basically saying that she can't guarantee the
- 19:54Speaker 1: defense that it offsets the burden that's placed on them
- 20:00Speaker 1: to have everything prepared so in light of that, she
- 20:05Speaker 1: has decided to go ahead with the postponement. Maxwell pleaded
- 20:11Speaker 1: not guilty to the new indictment late last month when
- 20:14Speaker 1: she appeared in court in person for the first time
- 20:16Speaker 1: for her arraignment. Previous hearings had been virtual in light
- 20:21Speaker 1: coronavirus related restrictions that were in place. In July twenty twenty,
- 20:27Speaker 1: Judge Nathan ordered prosecutors in defense counsel to propose a
- 20:30Speaker 1: full trial date by May tenth, just one week from now.
- 20:34Speaker 1: So I said May twelfth earlier, and obviously I misspoke.
- 20:38Speaker 1: It's May tenth, folks. May tenth is when they're going
- 20:41Speaker 1: to get together to figure out when this postponement and
- 20:44Speaker 1: new trial will begin. So you can also obviously read
- 20:50Speaker 1: Judge Nathan's documents in this link. Like usual, the link
- 20:55Speaker 1: is provided in the description box. But folks, this really
- 20:59Speaker 1: shouldn't be a surprise to any of us who have
- 21:01Speaker 1: been following the case. We saw the writing on the
- 21:04Speaker 1: wall when the superseded indictment came down. We saw Gilan
- 21:08Speaker 1: Maxwell's team gear up and move in the direction of
- 21:12Speaker 1: getting this postponement. It was just a matter of Nathan
- 21:16Speaker 1: giving the okay or saying no, And obviously, in Nathan's eyes,
- 21:21Speaker 1: the defense needs some more time to get their defense together.
- 21:27Speaker 1: So Maxwell's trial postponed from July twelfth to sometime this fall.
- 21:39Speaker 1: And for me, folks, I'll tell you what, I really
- 21:44Speaker 1: really wish it was going to happen in July, honestly,
- 21:47Speaker 1: But that's how the legal system operates. That's how things
- 21:52Speaker 1: go when you're dealing with cases like this, So you
- 21:56Speaker 1: have to remain flexible as as the survivors go. Though, Oh,
- 22:03Speaker 1: I can understand why they're dealing with anxiety and stress
- 22:07Speaker 1: about all of this. They want to get the show
- 22:09Speaker 1: on the road, right, They want to get this party started.
