- 1:09So I know a lot of females like my friends who are on the Autism
- 1:12spectrum, and we have done a bunch of videos together, which
- 1:15I will leave in a cat above here or in the description down
- 1:17below. And on the end screen with a
- 1:19playlist of all the videos, I've done with girls who are on the
- 1:21Spectrum, but I wanted to break down five of the top, like most
- 1:24common signs. So if you're like thinking, hey
- 1:27is my daughter, my mom, my grandmother, my friend, or
- 1:29whoever on the autism spectrum because they're female.
- 1:33This video is going to answer that question for you, okay?
- 1:34So this is all about identifying autism characteristics, in
- 1:38females, or in girls. And so I'm breaking down, like
- 1:41five of the most Like common ones that I think are really
- 1:43good. That people Point don't really
- 1:45speak about them, which is pretty weird, but we're going to
- 1:48cover all that right now. And also guys, if you think this
- 1:51video is going to be beneficial to anybody else, please tag them
- 1:54in the comments of this video or share this video on Facebook and
- 1:58Twitter because that would be super awesome because we can
- 2:00this whole sharing community of Love filled by people who want
- 2:02to educate other people and help other people are awesome.
- 2:06Right guys let's get into it okay?
- 2:07So the first one here is masking now I'm asking is where someone
- 2:11act like a different Person takes on a Persona becomes a
- 2:16different kind of, I don't know personality, whether in social
- 2:19situations and the reason that the girls on the autism spectrum
- 2:22do this is because girls want to be more social and outgoing and
- 2:26like how that interaction with their peers but also appear
- 2:31typical in that environment. They don't want to kind of like
- 2:34you know they don't want to show their true selves in all
- 2:36situations because I feel like they may be judged or they may
- 2:38be victimized or whatever which is an interesting concept.
- 2:42It because, you know, people on the office inspection generally
- 2:45just be themselves, but females in the autism spectrum have this
- 2:48degree of masking and to a certain extent, everybody on the
- 2:51autism spectrum will do masking from time to time because it's a
- 2:54way of coping, like, a workaround system.
- 2:56But masking is very, very interesting.
- 2:58And actually is probably what the number one cause of why that
- 3:00females on the autism spectrum and not diagnosed as quickly as
- 3:04males because the masking when they're even having their kind
- 3:08of assessment done because, you know, that's not what the so
- 3:10used to. But I would say that.
- 3:12Masking is, is the Forefront of the struggle in that environment
- 3:17when they get home to their comfort environment?
- 3:19Then there are going to be faced with more challenges and more
- 3:22struggles because they've been asking all day and pretend to be
- 3:26somebody else. So keep that in mind masking is
- 3:29one of the number one issues that girl's face when Andy on
- 3:32the autism spectrum. So yeah, check it out.
- 3:35Okay. So number two is selective
- 3:37mutism. Now, selective mutism is exactly
- 3:40what it says on the tin. It's selected.
- 3:42We being a mute in certain situations and usually this will
- 3:45come in the form of like say you and your, you know, your
- 3:50daughter or your best friend, who's a girl wants to like order
- 3:53a pizza. And you guys mean chatting away
- 3:55about all kinds of stuff, you know, and you have a really good
- 3:58relationship, but when you order the pizza, she never wants to be
- 4:00the person on the phone, ordering the pizza, right, and
- 4:02freaked out. She has to do it and she would
- 4:04actually prefer not to even order the pizza at all, if it
- 4:07meant, she had to get on the phone, so you'd rather go
- 4:09without Pizza that actually got the phone speak.
- 4:11Somebody else with To, this can also happen where if your
- 4:15friends quite a chassis person in your Social Circle and then
- 4:18you introduce him to other friends and then a not so
- 4:21chatty. They become quite the quiet and
- 4:23like, Meek then again, it's like selective mutism.
- 4:25And this is a Telltale sign of autism and girls.
- 4:27It's quite a, it's quite a common one to occur in often
- 4:31girls. And if you like it's sucking
- 4:33mutism is more common in females on the Spectrum than is males on
- 4:36the Spectrum. And this is why I've included it
- 4:37in this video because I think it's vitally important that we
- 4:39understand how selective mutism works.
- 4:41And it's Most importantly more common in females on the
- 4:45Spectrum. Now, the number three is a
- 4:47really interesting one and it's a slightly more more interesting
- 4:51and females it's obsessive collection.
- 4:53Now, people on the autism spectrum, have obsessive
- 4:56interest to like the same things, you know, and they'll
- 4:59research the same things and they love like, maybe a specific
- 5:01topic of Interest or a genre of something and I'll research it
- 5:05to death and I'll know everything about it.
- 5:06Every like small and you detail. But the addition when you are
- 5:10dealing with females on the Spectrum, as they will be an
- 5:12Safeco act like an intense collector of those things.
- 5:14So they all collect all those books in the Twilight Saga.
- 5:17I'll collect all those books from like, I don't know, Star
- 5:21Wars or whatever, or it comic book up, they'll just get really
- 5:24obsessed with it. Can be a collection of Care
- 5:25Bears or beanie babies, but that's the interesting thing
- 5:28about it. Now all those moms and dads out
- 5:30there who are watching this video, who have a basement and
- 5:32a, you know, cause it's full of stuff that the kids collected
- 5:35you got to hit that like button. Give this video a like, you
- 5:38know, exactly what I'm talking about, and it becomes on the
- 5:40Spectrum watching this. I'm just like, damn, I told you
- 5:41earlier, I'm sitting here. Chuckling you got to give that
- 5:44video a thumbs up because it helps me out and help me not you
- 5:46guys are having good fun while watching these.
- 5:48So that's super, super interesting.
- 5:50Okay, number four, let's get into it.
- 5:52Number four is no cuddles. Now, another characteristic of
- 5:56girls on the autism spectrum is the inability to want to be
- 5:58picked up when they were younger.
- 6:00Like a lot of kids wanna be picked up and cuddled and stuff
- 6:02like that, but girls on the autism spectrum.
- 6:04Typically, when they're really young, when I like toddlers to
- 6:06kind of like, you know, just before teens, they don't really
- 6:09want to be picked up or cuddle, you know, they don't have that
- 6:11kind of affectional can Connection.
- 6:13And because of this, they may not really want hugs later on in
- 6:16life. Like hugging me be something
- 6:18that we're not really into and this comes from a few different
- 6:21reasons. A lot of the time it down to a
- 6:22sensory processing disorder, SPD that comes comorbid with autism,
- 6:27which means that the sensation of actually being hugged at the
- 6:29white, hug is kind of like an unnerving one.
- 6:33So if you are someone who understands this, then you may
- 6:36enjoy actually like full pressure hugs like a quite
- 6:39squeezed to hug, you know, compression hug because it
- 6:41stimulates them. I called proprioception and the
- 6:43muscles. Now, this is a another indicator
- 6:47of somebody on the autism spectrum, special, if they're
- 6:49female and they are not a hugger, never been a couple of
- 6:51the other kit, or they were a kid, you know, this is super
- 6:54interesting and if you're like sitting there taking all these
- 6:55off right now and then this is why because you're now
- 6:58understanding and learning a bit more about our personal.
- 7:00You know, who is now from your knowledge on the Spectrum.
- 7:03But also, you know, if you are thinking somebody's on Spectrum,
- 7:06you should definitely check out a an official diagnosis and of
- 7:09or an official assessment because that's the protocol to
- 7:11take. Okay?
- 7:12So, Number five is difficulty in following instructions.
- 7:15Now, we all have instructions in life, in school, in work, at
- 7:18home. Even when you try to cook
- 7:19something, they may be instructions for cooking.
- 7:21But people on the autism spectrum, especially females
- 7:24will have difficulty following these instructions, all the way
- 7:26through. And this is an executive
- 7:27function issue, and a really big deal because, you know, you may
- 7:31be really bright student a really, really good student in
- 7:34class. But then when you come home and
- 7:36you're trying to like, you know, make ramen noodles, you may not
- 7:39be able to understand the packet, and this is all to do
- 7:41the way. A the brain communicates
- 7:43communication and translate that into your brain as a way of
- 7:45thinking, okay, I need to appropriately.
- 7:47Do this in a certain order, it's kind of a bit mismatch in the
- 7:50autism brain, but it could be a, you know, it's a larger issue
- 7:54that there's so much you can do therapeutically wise to help
- 7:57with things like this or those apps available to help with
- 7:59this. But, you know, not everything
- 8:01from the, the, the subject here. The difficulty in following
- 8:03instructions is a huge ASD, symptom, especially for autism
- 8:06and girls, because they are more that they're going to be around
- 8:10more organizational type of thing.
- 8:12I don't know why, but girls seem to be way more organized than
- 8:15males just in general. So, when you're around more
- 8:17organization, then you also run more instructions and it's
- 8:20harder to follow. So, if you're recognizing all of
- 8:22these things in highlighting, you know, these things are
- 8:24highlighted to that the person, you know, maybe then the autism
- 8:27spectrum, maybe it would be a good thing to maybe get them
- 8:29checked out and maybe go to an assessment or something.
- 8:31If you want access to Help Therapy support all that kind of
- 8:34stuff. It definitely accessible when
- 8:36you have an official diagnosis. So guys, those were my five top
- 8:40and most common signs of autism in girl.
