- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Norwegian with Fexingo. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Episode 77 already — it feels like we just started. Lucas: I know. And you've come so far. Today we're going to look at two very common adjectives: pen and stygg. Luna: Pen and stygg. I think I've heard pen before. It means pretty, right? Lucas: Exactly. Pen can mean pretty, beautiful, or nice-looking. For a person, a thing, even a view. Let me say it slowly: pen. Luna: Pen. Lucas: Perfect. Now the opposite: stygg. Ugly. Stygg. Luna: Stygg. That one is a bit trickier. Styyg. Lucas: Close. It's short — stygg. Like the 'y' in 'system'. Try again. Luna: Stygg. Lucas: There you go. So let's make simple sentences. Hun er pen. She is pretty. Hun er pen. Luna: Hun er pen. Lucas: Good. Han er pen. He is handsome. Han er pen. Luna: Han er pen. So pen works for both genders? Lucas: In the singular indefinite form, yes. Pen is the same for masculine and feminine. And for neuter, it's pent — but we'll save that for another episode. Luna: Okay, so for now, Hun er pen, Han er pen. Lucas: Exactly. And for objects, we often say den er pen or den er stygg. Den er pen — it is pretty. Den er stygg — it is ugly. Luna: Den er pen. Den er stygg. Lucas: Great. Let's make a little scene. Imagine we are looking at a painting. What do you think? Luna: Hmm. Den er pen. Lucas: I agree. And another painting over there? Luna: Den er stygg. Lucas: Ooh, harsh. But you're right. Okay, let's practice once more. Repeat after me: Hun er pen. Luna: Hun er pen. Lucas: Han er pen. Luna: Han er pen. Lucas: Den er stygg. Luna: Den er stygg. Luna: Den er pen. Lucas: Perfect. And if you don't like it? Luna: Den er stygg. But I wouldn't say that to her face. Lucas: Wise. Let's try another one. Describe a person you know. For example, your sister. Luna: Hun er pen. Lucas: Lovely. And what about your brother? Luna: Han er pen. But he's also very tall. Lucas: That's a different adjective. We'll cover that another time. For now, let's do a quick recap. Pen means... Luna: Pretty or handsome. Lucas: And stygg means... Luna: Ugly. Lucas: Great. Hun er pen. Luna: She is pretty. Lucas: Han er pen. Luna: He is handsome. Lucas: Den er stygg. Luna: It is ugly. Lucas: Excellent. That's all for today. Practice these with things around you — your coffee cup, your view, your cat. Luna: My cat is pen, by the way. Very pen. Lucas: I'm sure. Thanks for joining us on Fexingo. See you next time. Luna: Ha det bra!
