Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Seacrest here, and I don't know anybody that doesn't just
- 0:04Speaker 1: want to run up to him to say thank you
- 0:06Speaker 1: or I love you and all the nice things. You know.
- 0:10Speaker 1: It's Dwayne the Rock Johnson is here. Dwayne johnsonlet's just
- 0:13Speaker 1: call him Dwayne Johnson. Welcome is hey?
- 0:16Speaker 2: Thank you, fam. I appreciate you having me on.
- 0:19Speaker 1: I saw you on Sunday as we did the D
- 0:23Speaker 1: twenty three Legend Award. Congratulations on that.
- 0:28Speaker 3: Thank you brother, it was great to see you too.
- 0:29Speaker 3: It's been a minute. But what a night, what a
- 0:31Speaker 3: special night. I was so moved by that night. You know,
- 0:34Speaker 3: you go into those things as you know, you're prepared,
- 0:37Speaker 3: and you think you have an idea of what it is,
- 0:39Speaker 3: and I thought I did so when I got there
- 0:42Speaker 3: and you feel that crowd and you feel that kind
- 0:45Speaker 3: of love in the room and that kind of mana
- 0:48Speaker 3: spirit in the room, and it just really just took
- 0:51Speaker 3: me over.
- 0:52Speaker 1: But you had such a remarkable acceptance speech, and it's
- 0:57Speaker 1: really a philosophy. I subscribe to it. I like it.
- 0:59Speaker 1: I've leaving it, I you know, and when I don't
- 1:01Speaker 1: hit it on the mark, every day I think about
- 1:03Speaker 1: what you said. Let me play some of that back.
- 1:05Speaker 1: I mean, here's a guy Cisani and Tanya that has
- 1:08Speaker 1: worked super hard, that has had tremendous success, but has
- 1:12Speaker 1: remained this kind human being. And I say that like
- 1:16Speaker 1: that shouldn't be some great achievement. We should always be
- 1:18Speaker 1: kind human beings no matter what's going on. But listen
- 1:21Speaker 1: to what he said, and everybody in the Honda Center
- 1:25Speaker 1: was focused and listening to these words.
- 1:28Speaker 3: Trends will come and go, and algorithms will do what
- 1:31Speaker 3: they do, but being kind and being good to people.
- 1:34Speaker 3: And I heard this quote when I was fifteen, and
- 1:37Speaker 3: I'll never.
- 1:37Speaker 2: Forget it is.
- 1:39Speaker 3: It's nice to be important, but it's more important to
- 1:42Speaker 3: be nice. I mean that from my heart.
- 1:45Speaker 1: Wow, it's true. It's true. And just by doing that
- 1:49Speaker 1: and living that way, you feel better about yourself. People
- 1:51Speaker 1: feel better about themselves. Tell me, how is it that
- 1:54Speaker 1: you subscribe to that day in and day out.
- 1:57Speaker 2: Well, I heard that.
- 1:57Speaker 3: Quote when I was fifteen, and I you know, at fifteen,
- 2:02Speaker 3: I was still getting arrested and in trouble, but I
- 2:04Speaker 3: just I do remember that feeling of Wow, if I
- 2:09Speaker 3: am important one day and whatever that means, it's just
- 2:13Speaker 3: a reminder to be nice and kind. And then as
- 2:15Speaker 3: you get older and you roll down the road of life,
- 2:19Speaker 3: as we know, man, the algorithm will do what it does,
- 2:23Speaker 3: meaning like the algorithms these days, as we know, will
- 2:25Speaker 3: amplify the outrage and the division and the noise. So
- 2:30Speaker 3: the challenge for us is to maintain that thing that
- 2:35Speaker 3: we have, that anchoring integrity that we have, and try
- 2:39Speaker 3: to try our best to block out the noise. And also,
- 2:43Speaker 3: in addition to blocking out the noise, try our best
- 2:45Speaker 3: to treat people good and treat people kindly, because that
- 2:50Speaker 3: kind of stuff matters.
- 2:51Speaker 2: And I feel like.
- 2:53Speaker 3: Today, whether it's our younger generation and our young folks
- 2:57Speaker 3: out there, or even just us as not young folks
- 3:01Speaker 3: or me the age of Toronto source Rex, you still
- 3:05Speaker 3: have to that idea of treating people good and being
- 3:08Speaker 3: kind to them.
- 3:09Speaker 2: That's the kind of stuff that never goes out of style.
- 3:12Speaker 1: But what's interesting, what strikes me here is that you
- 3:14Speaker 1: said you weren't always that way. You got into trouble
- 3:16Speaker 1: growing up. You've been through some rough stuff growing up,
- 3:19Speaker 1: so it wasn't always that philosophy, and also discipline, you
- 3:24Speaker 1: weren't always so disciplined either. Now you seem very disciplined,
- 3:27Speaker 1: you work hard. I'm curious to know about the blessings
- 3:31Speaker 1: and the curse of discipline, because it can be fantastic
- 3:35Speaker 1: for a lot of things, but I also think it
- 3:37Speaker 1: can be sometimes it's a curse when you're over disciplined.
- 3:42Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a great question.
- 3:44Speaker 3: So what I've learned over the years is there is
- 3:47Speaker 3: really really true value in being disciplined, and there's discipline
- 3:52Speaker 3: and then the devotion to being disciplined about something and
- 3:55Speaker 3: when you're and a lot of times it's happened to
- 3:57Speaker 3: me too, I know what you're saying, we can be
- 3:59Speaker 3: a little bit over disciplined where it kind of has
- 4:04Speaker 3: this counter reaction to what we want and what I
- 4:08Speaker 3: have found. And you tell me if you've experienced this,
- 4:11Speaker 3: or the fan here at the radio station has experienced this,
- 4:13Speaker 3: is that when a lot of times, when you're so
- 4:18Speaker 3: super focused and disciplined about something, you can sometimes, unbeknownst
- 4:25Speaker 3: to it happening, you lose focus in sight on the
- 4:28Speaker 3: stuff that not only is equally important in life, but
- 4:32Speaker 3: then you realize, oh, that's the stuff that really matters. So,
- 4:34Speaker 3: for example, it's happened to me in the past where
- 4:37Speaker 3: I would be so devoted to the discipline and the
- 4:40Speaker 3: thing and think I must put in the work from
- 4:45Speaker 3: sun up to sundown, and then all of a sudden
- 4:48Speaker 3: you realize, a couple of years later, you know the
- 4:51Speaker 3: things that are really the most important things are the
- 4:54Speaker 3: things that are right in front of you, and that's
- 4:55Speaker 3: family and your babies as they're growing up. And before
- 4:58Speaker 3: you know it, you look up and you're like, oh, man,
- 5:00Speaker 3: I just missed a couple of years because I was
- 5:03Speaker 3: so disciplined trying to chase the thing you want to chase.
- 5:07Speaker 2: So you're right.
- 5:08Speaker 3: I think the discipline is a good thing, and you
- 5:13Speaker 3: have to be devoted to it, but also be devoted
- 5:15Speaker 3: to being as present as you possibly can in the
- 5:18Speaker 3: moment with your family, your loved ones, your friends, the
- 5:21Speaker 3: things that matter to as well.
- 5:23Speaker 2: So it's that act of balance that you that I've
- 5:25Speaker 2: tried to maintain.
- 5:27Speaker 1: Dwayne Johnson with us. Let's take a quick break, we're
- 5:29Speaker 1: coming back. Got to talk about Molwana, Voices across the
- 5:32Speaker 1: Ocean and a little album that in his wife put
- 5:35Speaker 1: out too. I was checking out so many these tracks
- 5:37Speaker 1: coming up. Next to Kiss FM, Back to School Cash
- 5:39Speaker 1: in one Minute on air with Ryan secrets when you're
- 5:45Speaker 1: injured in a kiss FM. Listen to this.
- 5:49Speaker 2: Now you go move those mountain sail across the show
- 5:58Speaker 2: the world.
- 6:01Speaker 4: There's nothing you can do, Obrey, while your sleep.
- 6:08Speaker 2: Watch you, while your dream man.
- 6:12Speaker 4: Hoop.
- 6:13Speaker 2: You understand.
- 6:16Speaker 4: Just how proud to be your day, the deeper that
- 6:27Speaker 4: I never.
- 6:29Speaker 1: Knew kind of feel good? Don't you feel good now?
- 6:31Speaker 1: Don't you feel like evering a better day? That's Dwayne
- 6:33Speaker 1: Johnson there singing. The album is Voices across the Ocean,
- 6:38Speaker 1: obviously inspired by Mowanna. So tell me about this? I
- 6:41Speaker 1: see em. Tunkey was involved as well in this way.
- 6:45Speaker 3: He was, Yeah, and I'm so happy and you know, Iam,
- 6:48Speaker 3: you know, I'm so happy to talk about this album
- 6:50Speaker 3: because you know, the idea of this album my wife
- 6:55Speaker 3: and I was actually her idea, Lauren, and she.
- 6:57Speaker 2: Comes from a musical background.
- 6:58Speaker 3: She's an amazing writer and singer, and she a couple of
- 7:02Speaker 3: years ago, about god years ago, I think the first Mawana,
- 7:05Speaker 3: she thought, oh, this, what if you guys did an
- 7:09Speaker 3: adjacent album that was inspired by Milana? And the Maana
- 7:13Speaker 3: came and then we started thinking about it for Mowana too,
- 7:17Speaker 3: and then we realized, hey, the best opportunity here is
- 7:21Speaker 3: let's create this album that's an inspired by album and
- 7:25Speaker 3: deliver it over the summer.
- 7:27Speaker 2: Now after Live Action Majana has come out.
- 7:31Speaker 3: And you know, guys, what I love about this album
- 7:37Speaker 3: is that the whole idea behind this was just to
- 7:40Speaker 3: create opportunities for artists in the Polynesian genre of music.
- 7:45Speaker 3: So we all thought, hey, maybe there's an opportunity for
- 7:49Speaker 3: me to sing on this album as well. And I said, okay,
- 7:52Speaker 3: let me think about it. So I called Iam Tongy
- 7:55Speaker 3: and you guys will appreciate this story. So I called
- 7:58Speaker 3: Iam and I said, hey, brother, do you have anything
- 8:01Speaker 3: in mind you think may work for me. My pen
- 8:05Speaker 3: game is a writer. I'm still learning, but he's an
- 8:07Speaker 3: amazing writer. And he said, he said, I think I do.
- 8:11Speaker 3: So he hit me back a couple of days later,
- 8:13Speaker 3: and guys, he sent me this song. He sent me
- 8:16Speaker 3: a song. The song I sing with him is called
- 8:20Speaker 3: your Dad. Now, he sent me a song and the
- 8:25Speaker 3: name of the song was my Dad. And I listened
- 8:29Speaker 3: to it. It's so emotional and so beautiful. And I
- 8:33Speaker 3: called him and what the song is? The song was?
- 8:36Speaker 3: The original song was Iam singing to his little kids
- 8:39Speaker 3: who he's going to have one day because he's getting
- 8:41Speaker 3: married in a couple of months. And it was a
- 8:44Speaker 3: song that he's singing to his little kids about his dad,
- 8:47Speaker 3: like my dad who is now in heaven, and he's
- 8:49Speaker 3: telling his kids, Hey, you know your grandfather was this
- 8:54Speaker 3: amazing man and he did great things even though he's
- 8:59Speaker 3: not here and you don't know him. And then the
- 9:01Speaker 3: song then transitions to Iam singing to his dad in heaven, saying, hey, Dad,
- 9:07Speaker 3: I got you. I'm going to tell them you move
- 9:10Speaker 3: mountains and you did great things. I have chills now,
- 9:14Speaker 3: and so I called im and I said, I love you.
- 9:18Speaker 3: I am not prepared to sing this to my dad,
- 9:20Speaker 3: I said, even though he's in heaven and I love him.
- 9:24Speaker 3: We had a complicated relationship and I can't do it.
- 9:28Speaker 3: You got to sing from your heart. And I said,
- 9:31Speaker 3: but if you're willing to go down this road with me, Iam,
- 9:34Speaker 3: can we rewrite this? And I think I could sing
- 9:36Speaker 3: it to my daughters and call it your Dad. And
- 9:39Speaker 3: so this song, with the early intention of just hey,
- 9:45Speaker 3: I'd love to join everybody on this album What an Honor,
- 9:48Speaker 3: really turned into the most meaningful thing to me because
- 9:52Speaker 3: it's not connected with you know, a box office opening.
- 9:57Speaker 1: Or but it's its own beast.
- 10:00Speaker 2: It's its own.
- 10:01Speaker 3: Beast, and it's just me singing to my daughters. So
- 10:04Speaker 3: and I am a lucky one to be on this album.
- 10:07Speaker 3: But there's so many beautiful songs on this album and
- 10:09Speaker 3: I can't wait for people to hear it.
- 10:11Speaker 1: Mawana Voices Across the Ocean is out now. Check that out.
- 10:15Speaker 1: Duwayne Johnson, thanks for I just remember all the times
- 10:18Speaker 1: over the years and the evolution of your career that
- 10:20Speaker 1: we've had a chance to check in. I'm grateful for it,
- 10:22Speaker 1: and I really respect and admire how you make people
- 10:26Speaker 1: feel You make people feel good.
- 10:29Speaker 2: Thank you well, thank you for that. I really appreciate that.
- 10:33Speaker 2: It's a superpower I think that we all have.
- 10:36Speaker 3: It's literally the easiest thing we can do is make
- 10:38Speaker 3: people feel good.
- 10:39Speaker 1: And treat superpower tank on you than some of us,
- 10:43Speaker 1: you know what I mean. So like I have the
- 10:44Speaker 1: mini superpower tank. Maybe on a good day, you've got
- 10:47Speaker 1: like Arsenal.
- 10:49Speaker 3: Yeah, oh no, we we we all do. But by
- 10:54Speaker 3: the way, I mean, if you think about it, it's
- 10:55Speaker 3: like you treat people kindly, you try to do your
- 10:58Speaker 3: best you can and take care of the folks around you.
- 11:00Speaker 2: But what's the alternative to that is? You know, it's
- 11:03Speaker 2: is like being yes stuff. We don't want being being
- 11:09Speaker 2: an e. It's like like.
- 11:12Speaker 1: This, No, did you like to listen to this man?
- 11:15Speaker 2: Yeah? Did you hear that?
- 11:17Speaker 1: Jeffrey Tubbs?
- 11:18Speaker 2: Wait? Who's Jeffrey Tubbs?
- 11:20Speaker 1: As my engineer? He's birthday today, so we're having a
- 11:24Speaker 1: good time on him.
- 11:25Speaker 2: Happy birthday, you miserable.
- 11:30Speaker 1: Love you buddy, Thanks again for coming back.
- 11:32Speaker 2: I love you too, Love you guys by Love.
- 11:34Speaker 1: You, Dwayne Johnson, everybody Mowana voices across the ocean. Go
- 11:38Speaker 1: listen to that. It's out Kiss FM one or two
- 11:41Speaker 1: point seven Kiss.

- 11:45Speaker 1: Here always forward and
