[upbeat rock music] Hey, everybody. It's that time. Hello, everyone. We are Scorpion Media.
• 0:16
[laughs] This is that, uh, that uncool, uh, unedited, unscripted show- Yeah... you might have heard before [laughs] called the Full Spectrum Secting Podcast with Sven. And JK. Hi, Sven. Hi, JK.
• 0:33
And in the studio today, Mr. T Burger. Hello, Tony. Welcome to the show, Tony Burger. Thanks for having me. So [clicks tongue], how's it going? Well, pretty good. How are you? [laughs] Fine.
• 0:48
All right, folks, thanks very much. We'll see you next week. All right. Good talks. Had a good time. [laughs] Thanks for having me. [laughs] And in the can. Yeah, right.
• 0:57
[laughs] So just, it's just that simple, ladies and gentlemen. [laughs] Get this thing put together and get out, get out the door.
• 1:04
[laughs] So, uh, I was out of town for a couple of weeks, making some money to keep the shop open out there in, uh, Sin City. Uh, Mr. Tony- What- Mr. Tony here manned the, uh, the desk while I was gone.
• 1:17
You can't say what happened in Las Vegas. I'll talk about the ride we did, but nothing else. [laughs] Was it technically Henderson, not Vegas? Or was it- No, it was, uh, Blue Diamond area- Yeah, fair enough then...
• 1:28
which would be- That's good... which would be the, kinda the other way from, uh- Semantics here [laughs] Yeah, it's not exactly Las Vegas itself proper. Ah. It's more, uh, [clears throat] on the outskirts.
• 1:39
That would be interesting to, like, really rip the, rip around the strip. Yeah. Rip the strip. Not, not trying to be clever, but it just works out that way. But, I mean, it would be annoying.
• 1:49
We'd frustrate the shit out of everybody there. That's certainly a thing that happened during Interbike when that was going on. But that would be fun. Yeah, people were- I could see that being fun. You know,
• 1:59
once it gets busy- Sorry if I sounded devious on that one, but- Deviant. Right. Yeah, so, uh, yeah, Sin City, uh, making money, not going to the strip, and, uh, going out to Blue Diamond was good stuff. That's, uh...
• 2:13
It's a little enclave. I think the original reason it's there is because there's a spring, and it was a Union Pacific-owned thing, but it's at least 10 minutes outside the edge of Vegas. So it's not really in town.
• 2:26
Which, which direction? You'd be going towards Pahrump. Uh, north, west? Which would be kind of southwest. Okay. Or yeah. Island. Yeah, south, southwest. One of those directions.
• 2:36
[laughs] It's towards Californ- it's towards California. Did you just say Pa-rump? Pahrump. Pahrump. Pahrump. That's where all the bro- Pahrump... that's where all the brothels are if you wanna go to Pahrump. Huh.
• 2:45
And, uh, Art Bell broadcast from there, didn't he? Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, Art Bell. Crazy. [laughs] Yeah, it's not crazy out there. No. No. No, not at all.
• 2:57
Oh, that, uh, that, that whole Blue Diamond complex, I don't know how many miles of trails are there exactly, but 50 maybe. Mm.
• 3:04
And it's, you can ride right out of the town of Blue Diamond, or there's a bunch of trail heads off the highway going towards Pahrump. [laughs] And, uh, it's very deserty, super cool.
• 3:15
Um, a lot of it is nice and flowy with cacti to look at, and if there's a little bit of rain, some fancy little flowers on the side of the trail.
• 3:23
And then there's some pretty rocky, you know, human head-sized rocks on some of the descents and stuff. So, uh, we were riding out there with a friend of ours that rigs out there with Marcus a lot named Andrew,
• 3:36
and, uh, his buddy owns a shop in, in Blue Diamond, so he lent me a Trek full suspension 27-plus bike. Nice. For the 12 to 14 minutes of downhill in the two-hour ride- [laughs]... it was really cool.
• 3:51
[laughs] The rest of the time it wasn't as cool? No, it was pretty cool still. I mean, it was... I haven't ridden a Trek in, I don't know, except for a 19... What are, what are they? '89, the 950s we had one year?
• 4:01
Yeah, exactly. Something like that. The 89, yeah. Except for that, I haven't ridden a Trek in 30 years, I bet. Was it, like, lockout and stuff? Could you- It had a dropper post, and it had, uh, uh...
• 4:12
I don't think it had a lockout fork. No, it didn't. But, um, [clears throat] - So it has a dropper post and not a lockout fork? Yeah. What the hell? I don't know. What is Trek thinking? I... Yeah.
• 4:22
But, uh, yeah, great trails if you guys get out that way. I would recommend it. Uh, Marcus was riding an unsuspended fat bike and was doing really well.
• 4:29
Um, he's come a long ways in the last couple of years riding out there, so. It isn't like you can't do it, it's just like you can close your eyes and do it on a full suspension bike, sorta. [laughs] Nice.
• 4:39
Not worry totally, 'cause I don't know the trail that well. I'm like, "Oh, I'm offline. Oh, don't worry about it." [laughs] [laughs] Um- A little forgiveness. Yeah.
• 4:48
That said, I was trying to figure out what bike to send out there, but I'm only going out for two more weeks, so I don't think it's probably worth sending a bike. Yeah. Might be, might not.
• 4:58
[laughs] How, how was the shop while I was gone? Quiet. I looked in on the camera. You were, uh- Reading... you were... There was like 28 people in here all trying to buy bikes at the same time. And they were naked.
• 5:10
[laughs] They were testing our dropper post. Yeah. [laughs] Yeah, dropped in. The drop your ass post. [laughs] J- JK dropped in, uh, shot the, shot the bull a little bit. Went and had a beer across the street.
• 5:22
Turned me onto a beer I didn't know about from... Where is it from? Up around, up around the Dells? [sighs] I think they still have it- Yeah... rolling over there. Yeah. Hey, guess what? Like a Pills. Just beer.
• 5:36
I, I made a, I made a, an appeal out there on the interwebs for people to call in, and some- Someone called in... some poor sucker [laughs] is on the line. Whoa. Hey, welcome to the radio program, caller.
• 5:47
Who do we have on the line? Hey, buddy. It's Mark Peterson. How are you guys doing? Hey, Mark. Mark. How's it going, man? Awesome. Fantastic. How are you guys doing? Great, man. Awesome to hear your voice.
• 5:59
So how's, how's the- How's the... Likewise, how's the snow out there? Are you guys getting snow? [laughs] Negative. Negative. I don't think we've gotten an inch this year yet.
• 6:08
Uh, according to the weather I saw this week, this is the lowest amount of snowfall we've had in Wisconsin this winter since, like, 1873. [laughs] That number might not- Man, I'm not stoked... be quite exact right.
• 6:21
Right? And the, I'm like the, I'm like the guy with all the snowmobiles in his motorcycle shop waiting to sell them, and there's no snow. Right. Right. 'Cause nobody's gonna think about a fat bike- Uh-uh...
• 6:30
even in Wisconsin, bunch of s- whatever people. [laughs] It, not only has there not been snow, Mark. [laughs] It's actually been unseasonably warm, which is creepy too. Wow.
• 6:42
Yeah, if you're- Well, last winter we had kind of the same thing out here. It went super warm and it was super dry, but this year it seems like we're getting some pretty good snow, so I'm stoked.
• 6:51
Man, I've been seeing some photos. It looks like you are having a good time out there. Yeah. Oh, yeah, definitely. Um, uh, there's... I'm learning a bunch of lessons, man.
• 7:01
Um, do you remember way back in the day when I first, uh, met you and started talking to you, Greg? Um, how, I mean, Sven. Uh, you know, how I was all wingnut, wanted to jump off of everything and just really aggressive?
• 7:14
Yeah. B- including your roof at your house? Yes, yes. [laughs] Many things like that. [laughs] I do remember that.
• 7:23
Well, after, after a bunch of injuries and a bunch of healing, um, I've had to change my MO, and so I've kinda moved more into the bike camping adventure kinda thing instead of the jumping off stuff thing.
• 7:37
I c- I can feel you. At my advanced age, I'm very much headed in that direction as well. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. So what have you found out there? Oh, I'll tell you what, there's...
• 7:47
Oh, uh, it is, it is amazing, but I am learning some very, uh, some very real challenges on bike camping gear in the kinda terrain where I ride.
• 8:00
Um, the places that, uh, I wanna go to are, you know, 2,000 feet of vertical climb and two miles kinda places,
• 8:09
and when you descend down that stuff, any kind of weight on your bars, like, you know, bar bags and stuff hanging around, are just swinging around like pendulums and- [laughs]... bouncing around.
• 8:18
I think I'm gonna go to a full rack system. Yeah, it's, it's kinda...
• 8:23
I always, uh, try to figure out where it's gonna be, uh, useful to use either a f- like a rack system or a, a bag-on-bike system and, you know, blasting through single track, when you got a lotta tight stuff, the bag-on-the-bike system makes a lotta sense.
• 8:37
But if you've got the room, man, I think you're on, on the right track keeping the weight low and keeping it, uh, where it's not gonna affect your handling as much. Might be a great thing. Yeah. Behind your ass. Yeah.
• 8:48
I'm- [laughs]... I really wanna do the, the Give Me A Month, uh, Challenge. I think that sounds fantastic. It's super cool. Right on.
• 8:59
Would be awesome if you would do a few reports on that for the old fatbike.com website, man. Uh-huh. What's that website again? Oh, absolutely.
• 9:06
In fact, I've, I've got a, a story that I've been basically done with for about three months, but I keep, uh, changing the end of it 'cause it keeps getting longer.
• 9:16
[laughs] And I'll be sending that in, and it'll be kind of basically a sum-up of bike camping and the gear I was using and where I was going and some of the lessons I learned.
• 9:26
But it'll also talk a little bit about the change in my fat bike life from being, uh, I guess extreme or rad- Right, right... sort of, I guess. Yep.
• 9:40
And, and then turning it more into a different kind of, I guess, extreme, like going to really extreme places, beautiful places, and staying there overnight.
• 9:51
Hey, uh, FYI, Mark, uh, myfatbikelife.com does not seem to exist. I'm not saying it's not registered, but there is no website there, so- Hmm... I, I smell a, I smell a- Hmm...
• 10:01
a persona and a future for you on the web with your, uh, your very own website. Well, I've got a website or two, and yeah, um, uh, I think that's a good idea. I should, uh, actually let my stuff grow a little bit.
• 10:17
I've, I've been more focused on getting healthy, getting into shape, and making sure that my financial life is solid.
• 10:23
When you were out in, uh, Utah, what was it, um, '13 or 2014 when you came out here, uh, to the, uh, Saddle Drive at Snowbasin? Right, right. Yep, great time. Yeah, definitely.
• 10:37
When, when that time came around, uh, the economy and everything was still crazy, and finally, life is good. Like, every aspect of my life is really starting to kick ass, and,
• 10:48
yeah, I, I'm really looking forward to a lot more adventures and doing a lot more stuff. It's been a long time in coming, man. I'll tell you what, that back injury took me out for almost a solid three years. Hmm. Damn.
• 11:00
Wow. Yeah, that's tough stuff. Yeah. Well, I'm glad you're on the mend and, uh- Yeah... you know, give us a shout anytime. Yeah. Tell us what's on your mind. You know, Mark just got- Hey, Franks.
• 11:11
Oh, by the way, you have to ride, you have to ride the bike outside every day. [laughs] The only exception is, is if you're in the hospital like I was. Oh, okay. So, so trainers don't count. Trainers never count.
• 11:24
Well, if- [laughs]... if, if you're in the hospital- [laughs]... a trainer would count for me. So, so a, a hotel starts with H, which is kinda like hospital, which doesn't have any bikes, so what do I do?
• 11:34
I thought JK was onto something. Just go- I think, uh-... go sit on somebody's parked bike and spin, spin backwards for a while. [laughs] Yeah.
• 11:41
It's like as long as you have your ass- I, I, I think you should have to go and find a real bike. Well, yeah. Yeah. You should find a real bike. Somebody's got their bike locked up. You just- But- Put your...
• 11:49
As long as you have an ass on a saddle. But those guys all have meth that have bikes out there. They're like- Well, you're not going- You know, it's like, "I'm not gonna steal your bike, man."
• 11:55
You're not gonna do a commando, hopefully. I just w- I just wanna borrow it for a second. [laughs] That's part of the adventure. That's what the, where the good stories will come from- Yeah... is shit like that.
• 12:04
[laughs] Copy that. Okay. Yeah. Good, good call. So then technically I'm already out of the competition 'cause, uh- I only rode, I only rode one day when I was out there. [laughs] Right. So.
• 12:14
You still riding every- Uh, that's no competition Yep... you're still in it. [laughs] JK and I have done every day this year. Yep, Tony and JK are still on, on the hunt. Nice. Good job you guys.
• 12:25
And, and outside, of course. Yep. It was close- Of course, of course... on the, uh, on January 2nd. It actually [laughs] was very close. It was pretty chilly. Yeah, and slickery. Yeah. And so I got on it and I rode it
• 12:39
all the way up the driveway [laughs] to my Jeep. [laughs] Hey, I never said I would follow. [laughs] So I'm right over here. And I was ass on saddle and I rode it- Yep... and it was shitty out. It- Da, da, da, da, da...
• 12:52
th- when I did this every day in 2013- [laughs]... there was one day where it was like 25 below zero and I thought, "I'm gonna go out and do a lap of the River West 24."
• 13:00
[laughs] And I got to checkpoint two and I'm like, "That's as far as a lap as I wanna go," and I rolled back home. [laughs] I'm like, "Yep, I'm done." [laughs] Yeah, man.
• 13:10
Hey, uh, Mark, I w- do you remember the Fitzgeralds that owned, uh, the, uh, place in, uh, Teton Village, the bike shop, Fitzgeralds? I think it was called. I don't know. Yeah, it sounds fr- familiar. Yes.
• 13:22
Yeah, they, uh, they sold the shop a few years back and, um, they went on the road, I think last year maybe, promoting a couple of books for kids. I got one of them right here called Taking the Lead.
• 13:33
  Scott Fitzgerald wrote it.
• 13:35
And, uh, so I was out at this, uh, Blue Diamond complex and I saw this motor home out there with the Buddy Pegs, which is the publishing company, uh, trailer on the back, and I thought, "Huh, that's kinda cool.
• 13:47
I wonder if that's the Fitzgeralds happen to be here when I'm here." And, um, I didn't stop and leave a note on the vehicle.
• 13:53
And I was out on the trail and I saw this young, young kid, about nine years old, kinda doing a really good job, and then a lady with, behind him. And, uh, I went, "Oh, that's really cool."
• 14:03
And then like, uh, a m- mile later I'm like, "Wait a second." I tried to put two and two together and I'm like, "I think that was the Fitzgeralds." [laughs] So
• 14:12
I gotta shoot 'em, I gotta shoot 'em a note and say, "I saw you guys [laughs] out in Las Vegas." [laughs] That's kinda cool.
• 14:19
Yeah, I was looking forward to talking to 'em, but by the time we got done the vehicle had moved. And when we were on the top of the hill, I saw it- Mm...
• 14:26
and I'm like, "That doesn't look like where it was before," but I, I didn't really have a spatial orientation as to where we were, so by the time we got to the bottom it definitely wasn't where it had been parked earlier, so.
• 14:37
Mm. Mm. We were like two ships passing in the night. Well, I gotta take off you guys. [laughs] Right on. Yeah, I, I gotta take off you guys, but it's really good talking to you.
• 14:45
And if any of you guys ever, uh, get out here, hit me up. I've got a guest room you guys can stay in for free. Ah, thanks man. Right on, bro. Great, great Mark. Hey, thanks for calling, dude. Road trip. [laughs] Yep.
• 14:56
Hey, have a great night, fellas. You too. You too, man. Bye. Later. All right, man. There- Mark Petersen... there's very few people that I would associate a voice to a person.
• 15:08
He is exactly what I expected him to sound like. [laughs] That's awesome.
• 15:11
[laughs] I'm like, wow, that, he, he, as soon as you said it was Mark Petersen and he started talking, I'm like, "Oh my God, it's like I've known this guy forever." [laughs] Sounds like Mark Petersen. That's awesome.
• 15:19
[laughs] Oh, he's super awesome. Yeah, he helped me out during the, uh, the saddle drive event he mentioned. He was, uh, he was my on-camera talent for a couple of, um, videos with salsa stuff and whatnot and- Nice...
• 15:32
it was a lot of fun. I'd like to do more of those things. Those are useful for people and, uh, fun to do. Hey, speaking of fun to do, have you... You guys saw these things, didn't you? These are patch books.
• 15:42
Have you seen these things? [laughs] You explain them to me. Did I- That's really a cool idea... did I give you guys one yet? Um, folks, what these are, and I'll put a link on the website, is a matchbook- Uh-huh...
• 15:52
called a patch book which has glueless patches, a, this is a [patch scraping] piece of sandpaper to rough up your tube. And, uh, all that is in a thing.
• 16:02
I've tried out this patch on a tube and it is super sticky and really stretchy. Nice. Next time you guys get a flat, a gift, gifts for the, the hosts. And is it ever- Give, give it a-...
• 16:13
a deal with if kids get good grades they can come in here and get one of these for- Why hecky, heck yeah... that's a really great idea. Come in.
• 16:19
Your kids get a good report card, bring it in and we'll give you a free- Book of matches... book of matches. [laughs] Or- Book of patches... or patches. Or patch books. Patches. I mean- Patch books...
• 16:30
we don't need no stinking patches. Yeah. No, it's okay. Yeah, it's a cool idea. Those guys are o- onto something- [laughs]... with that patch book business. Right on. Oh. [bottles clinking] Oh, top of the hill?
• 16:41
Top of the hill. Oh, he can go right in the bag. Oh. You wanna go in the bag or the fridge? You guys keep ta- Oh, it's the bag... you guys talk, talk amongst yourselves. I'll go to the fridge.
• 16:52
I, I want a Land of Sky Blue Waters. I can get you an all that. Tall or small? Uh, [laughs] I'll go tall. I'm not afraid. [laughs] This is terrible. Yes. Dad beer's at its best.
• 17:05
[door squeaking] And we're back, ladies and gentlemen. I had to go all the way to the fridge. Oh, the fridge. For the all day. I pay. IPA. IPA, IPA, IPA. [door closing] Do, do, do. There we go.
• 17:23
So we had a break and that's what we did. [laughs] I, I wrote special guest tone burger down. [laughs] That's a new fancy kind of burger. Right. Is it right by the Y or something?
• 17:35
See, speaking of new burgers- No, it's right the hell over there... I've heard that, uh, Crave in Charwood is the new burger place. I have not been. All right.
• 17:42
Oh, it's been there for- I've, I've not- I'm- I mean, but is there, it's really, like, the best burger now and- I'm gonna go out on a limb and say nothing in Charwood is the best... I, you know, it's been around.
• 17:52
We all know where the best is. [laughs] They've got some c- they've got some clever offerings. Yeah. And it's been there for a bit, so I haven't tried it yet, but I've heard good things. We, uh, we know the best burger.
• 18:03
Is it? Yeah, right? Besides me, of course. Yeah. [laughs] So, um- You said that very close to the mic... I, I think, I don't know, Tony might appreciate this. No. So I, I was at, uh- Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.
• 18:13
Oh, that's terrible. I know. A, a little tech news for you folks from CES. [sings] Check this out. Do you recognize what that is? A Polaroid camera.
• 18:25
It's a Polaroid SX-70, the old school pop open SX-70, of which I still have one. And Polaroid is again making compatible film for the SX-70. I am super stoked.
• 18:36
Are they, or is it the company that bought Polaroid from the Netherlands? Well, it's in the Polaroid booth. Right. So I know that it's been available the whole time, it just wasn't made by Polaroid.
• 18:45
Do, do you know where all of these Polaroids are being refurbished? The Netherlands. No. [laughs] No, I don't. It's in Bayview. Really? It is. I have one, and mine is in bitchin' shape.
• 18:55
It's on the top floor of the building that the Illuminati's located in. Oh, I should take in- Uh, huh... mine for a little, uh, love se- love fest. They get, like, several hundred of those a day.
• 19:08
They come into the shop to be refurbished. I could not believe it when these guys opened up. [laughs] It's just insane. Yeah, that's cool, 'cause they're- It's great... they're great cameras. Mm-hmm.
• 19:16
They have a whole collection of all of the, all of the instant, you know, but yeah.
• 19:20
Yeah, I think that one and the 600 were kinda the most popular ones, but, uh, my dad bought that one new back in 1970 aught five, or whatever it came out in. '70 aught five. It was back in the olden days. Yeah.
• 19:33
Back when I was- Last, last century... back when I was a kid. [laughs] Um, so yeah, and I, I didn't see a whole lot of... There was a lot of bikes in booths at CES, but they were all trying to show some other technology.
• 19:44
I didn't see a whole lot of stuff that was actually cycling oriented. No e-biking? Uh, I think a lot of them were electric, but I also- Woogie, woogie... didn't really get into it that much. I- Sure, sure...
• 19:56
you know, so I walked the floor for, like, two hours of a show that takes, like, four days to do. [laughs] Yeah, right, right. Yeah. [laughs] Mm-hmm. Yeah, the, uh, what, Samsung, I think, had, like, a 270-inch TV.
• 20:09
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Like, what the hell? Big stuff, man, big. Yep, yep.
• 20:14
Um, it, th- so they had a cool thing where they had little squares that were maybe six inches square, and you can put them together and it will create whatever size TV you make. Cool.
• 20:26
And it will work, and it will be good, and it will be Samsung. [laughs] You know, and that'll, that'll destroy the projection- This segment brought to you by Samsung... Samsung.
• 20:36
[laughs] That will destroy the projection industry. Hey, if we could get Samsung to sponsor the show- Sh- Sa-... we would mention it more often, Samsung... Samsung, are you out there?
• 20:44
We would love to hear from you, Samsung. On the other hand- I don't believe it's [laughs] what? I [laughs] There is no Samsung clause. Uh, the other cool thing was that LG roll-up TV. Yeah. That thing was so cool.
• 20:57
I have a video of them doing their little dance. Nice. Yeah. It's, uh... And then the entrance to LG was quite possibly the coolest thing I've ever seen.
• 21:06
It's a very curvy, undulating entrance that goes over your head, and it's a complete scene, whether it's fiery or, or underwater, or stars, but it engulfs you. It's really sweet. Mm. All OLED curvy things. Yeah. Nice.
• 21:21
That technology's gonna destroy the projection industry. And this tech talk has been brought to you by Samsung. [laughs] Samsung. And LG. [laughs] And LG. Also- Well, you know the new-... the maker of my telephone...
• 21:32
yeah, the new thing in, uh- [laughs] The new thing in projection is having- Google... you can actually have the projector- [laughs]... two inches from the wall and it will project a- Full si- yeah...
• 21:42
full 200 inch- Oh, yeah. Ultra short throw projection. Ultra. Awesome, awesome. Ultra short. That's the... Yep, that is the new model. And it will make it square, though. It doesn't- Yep... do any parallax goofiness.
• 21:53
It's... It was pretty cool. Yeah, that's, that's some- For those of you that still-... some crazy mad technology... you know, those of you who still watch television, not listen to podcasts like you should.
• 22:03
[laughs] Yeah. Naked. Podcast. Hey, how about we get back to something cycling oriented? Oh, yes. [laughs] Th- th- slight derail. Eh. Not really. You know.
• 22:15
Um, one of the dudes I rode with in, in Blue Diamond, his name is Andrew Fulton, and he has a, an Instagram, um, what do they call an Instagram account thing? Mm-hmm. It's called Rig, Rock, Roll. Or no, Rig, Rock, Ride.
• 22:30
Sorry. I like the roll part, too, but Rig, Rock, Ride. It's about rigging, rock climbing, and riding mountain bikes. So is he, like, s- And he ties them all together somehow. Yeah.
• 22:40
So he rides his bike to rock climb with his rigging? Well, he, so he's the head rigger at, uh, Thomas & Mack, which is the UNLV's arena,
• 22:49
and so he's into getting young people into rigging because that's actually a teaching university, so I believe they have a rigging course there. Mm.
• 22:56
So you, you know, climb and do all your- Sounds like a class I'd like to take... right? Maybe when I was 30 years old. I'm not gonna go on high steel so much anymore. Catwalks are okay, but [laughs]
• 23:09
It's been 25 years since I was looking down from 150 feet in the air and walking an eight-inch beam, so- [laughs] I, I like the idea of it, and I think people should definitely do it 'cause it's a great career.
• 23:21
It's treated me pretty well. I'm glad I'm back in it. More on the, uh, management side now, but you know, good stuff. So I'll have a link to his thing, but you should [laughs]... He's super motivating.
• 23:34
He's like Tony Robbins, super, like, just gung ho motivational. I would, I would definitely check it out. Oh.
• 23:43
You know what I was checking out the entire time I was, uh, quote unquote, "working" at Everyday Cycles is all the bikes I wanna ride. [laughs] I'm like, "Oh man, I'd like to take this thing out for a spin."
• 23:54
I'm like, "Oh, look at this. This is a single speed," but it's not. It's got a two-speed kickback. Actually, it's a two-speed automatic. It just shifts by itself.
• 24:02
It shifts by itself when you get to the appropriate speed. That's just- It's very clever that way. [laughs] Yeah. The Germans. Right? Them Germans, I tell you. Yes, that is a very pretty bike. The... That one. Yes.
• 24:14
Yeah, it's that one right there. Yes. Yes. So- It has, it even has a Porsche 917- I point- I pointed... Gulf paint scheme on it. Oh, it does Yeah, that would be all right, too. I would also like to drive a Porsche 917.
• 24:28
[laughs] Yes, both of those things would be good. I'd even drive a, like, a total primer gray one just for the hell of it. I, I would be okay with that, too. [laughs] I could close my eyes and pretend it's that color.
• 24:38
[laughs] So, folks, we had, uh, Mark Peterson on the line before. Want to remind everybody what that call-in number is. 818- 8- 918... No, no, no, no, that was the old one. [laughs] What, what's that number again, JK?
• 24:49
Uh, I don't have my little book in front of me. 717-727-2453. 2453? I tried to get the o- Is also a bike... I tried to get the old one back, but it wasn't available. Oh.
• 25:00
But this is, kinda has the same little bouncy rhythm. Mm-hmm. It does. 717-727-2453. We can make a song. We can make a song. Where's our jingle? B-I-K-E. B-I-[laughs] M-I-K-E. It's not M-I-K-E. [laughs] So said Luns.
• 25:15
[laughs] Oh, you do a Luns, you do a Luns imitation really well. [laughs] I can't do him or he, or he'd yell at me. [laughs] I can't do him just 'cause I can't do him.
• 25:28
[laughs] Ta- talent is one of those things you're born with, man. Yep. Well- JK was born with a lot of talent Oh, and you, yeah, and you guys. You know. Hunter Rivers. [laughs] Mike on the mic.
• 25:40
Mike on the mic, it's like gymnastics over here. Ring-da-ding-ding-ding. [bell rings] Whoa! [laughs] Or you could be M-I-K, M-I-K-E on the M-I-C. Hi, my name is Mike. I like bikes. I think I have to map these buttons.
• 25:57
[trumpet blows] Whoa. Probably ought to get my own sounds on them anyway, huh? [laughs] Instead of using theirs. [applause] Thank you. Thank you, again. Good idea, good idea.
• 26:09
Thank you, uh, thank you and have a good night. We got a big crowd here tonight. Thank y'all for coming in. Yeah, yeah, for sure.
• 26:15
Yes, I, I, uh, enjoyed checking out the shop, uh, checking a lot of the, the Made in America stuff. We do have a website in case anybody wants to- What's our website?... visualize. EverydayCycles.com..com.
• 26:30
Yep, most of the stuff in here is on there, pretty much. Kinda gotta do that ir- these days. I think that interwebs thing is gonna catch on. [laughs] Ah, it's a fad.
• 26:41
You know, if you order something on- online and I ship it to you, I might even throw a rubber duck in there. Free rubber duck for the next 10 orders. Oh, that's right. Say you heard it here. Guess what I, I figured out?
• 26:52
I think everybody else in the world is out of Chris King Spur Cycle bells, 'cause I've been getting calls, "Do you still have those in stock?" Yes, I do. [laughs] Yes, I do.
• 27:02
[laughs] I'm not sure if they're gonna come out with them or they just release them at a very, very slow interval, but, uh, we still have a couple left.
• 27:09
Yeah, a funny story about that was I, I had Molly take those to be shipped out, and I'm like, "Just put them in a nice box," and she found a box, and as she was boxing them up, she's like, "Oh, this box looks like shit."
• 27:20
And then she looks across the room and she finds a beautiful box. Beauty box. She's like, "I sent this in such a pretty box. I put a little note in it for the guy." Nice. So- Something I always forget- There you go...
• 27:32
trying to be the customer service guy that I'm not "Thanks for the order. Ride your bike every day." Right on. Bing, bing. Right on.
• 27:40
'Cause I got home and rang it once for Molly, and she's like, "That's a beautiful bell." Oh, it's got sustain, maybe. It does. Molly likes a good bell, as do I.
• 27:51
Yeah, probably ought to have one next week we can ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding. Yeah. Time the delay. [bell rings] It's almost just like that ham. [laughs] It's almost like this half, oh, half full hams.
• 28:05
[bell rings] Half a ham. Oh, that one's got good sustain, too, for a cowbell. I bought that special and then I put that sticker on there. I see that. What's that sticker stand for? I don't know. It says North Paw.
• 28:16
I'm not even... What, what were those things? I might have one of those. There's even one, there's... So Ken, I don't think he did anything to that bike in the seven years he's had it.
• 28:25
There was some worn out parts on that thing, let me tell you. [laughs] I can't believe you got the bolts out. Oh. The, the, the water bottle bolts- Yeah, that took a couple, took a couple days Wow.
• 28:34
That was some, uh, PB Blaster and persuasion, and a little tapping with the cha, tink, tink, tink, tink. Yep. I just didn't wanna round them out and then I'm like, "Oh, man." Man, that, yeah. "Oh, man."
• 28:43
Then you have the Dremel and kind of- Yeah, kind of ease out... shave them down a little bit so you can put a regular wrench on them, and then break them and then drill them out. Yep. That's, that happens.
• 28:51
No, they came out. They did. That's- So maybe he did some maintenance at some point five years ago. No, I, the, the- If you're listening- Oh... now, Ken- Well, surprisingly-... send a burden is- [laughs] 717-727-2453.
• 29:05
Right. For some reason, the bottom bracket's actually still in pretty good shape. I know he may have replaced that before, but the head, the lower head set bearing- Oh, those look terrible... was bad.
• 29:15
It was- Those look really terrible... the, uh, the Surly Ultra new hub. Front bearings are toast, so he'll be getting some new roller bally thingies. At least those are, you know, rebuildable.
• 29:29
With a new sealed bearing, yeah, you just press it in there. Not bad. But yep, yep. Good stuff, Surly. You's all smart with your bike stuff. SurlyBikes.com. Samsung. [laughs] LG.
• 29:46
[laughs] All right, dudes. [laughs] You guys got any closing thoughts and/or comments before we make like a tree and get out of here? Uh, you should come into the bike shop, say hi.
• 29:59
Uh, by the way, Tony's gonna be here again in a couple of weeks. I gotta go one more trip out to the Sin City area there to do a little- Come in, say hi... money-making. Maintenance. [laughs] Yeah, I'll post some hours.
• 30:13
He'll be here some. Hey, what about Tuesday night's ride? What's that all about? The one coming up? Yeah. The ice rink one? Yeah. Yeah. [laughs] It sounds like a lot of fun. It does.
• 30:24
The ice rink was a little sketchy today. I, uh- Did you go on it today? No, I did not go on it today. Oh. Oh. It was, uh, sort of- Moist? Like, not smooth. How about that? Yeah. Oh, it rarely is smooth. Yeah.
• 30:36
[laughs] I got studs on. Yeah. So- And I am a stud, so there you go... yeah, and there you have it. I, I got one stud. I got those studded tires right on the wall there. I'm gonna have to mount those right up.
• 30:46
Oh, look at that. I wanna get another wheel set. I don't like swapping back and forth all the time. That's, that's a fool's game right there. Are those five-inch, too? They are Dillinger fives. Oh.
• 30:55
I think they're really four-and-a-half inch, but they are bigger than four-inch. I helped, uh, Ka- uh, Kobe put his on. Oh, goo. Cool, cool. And, uh, and then showed him how to adjust brakes properly.
• 31:06
Did you tell him to watch himself on the pavement a little bit, too? Oh, I told him to ride them around to sharpen them very well, to set them a little. JK knows all about [laughs] Did you wipe out?
• 31:14
[laughs] Some sliding on the, uh, the studs- Oh... on the pavement. Oh, yeah, trying to be a smart-ass and sl- like, skid into ones in front of [laughs] Like, 3,000 people?
• 31:26
And, like, 15 motorcycle cops at the end of the [laughs] St. Patrick's Day parade. Braap. [laughs] Oops. How'd that work out? Oh, it was all fine. [laughs] All righty. Just one little piece of raspberry on the knee.
• 31:42
All's well. Nah, it all, it cures. Yep. All right, guys. All right. Well, thanks for coming to the shop tonight. Uh, all y'all out there are welcome any Wednesday that we're doing this, which is every other one, mostly.
• 31:53
Indeed. Or when we feel like doing it. All are welcome here. 'Cause we're actually gonna do it next week, too, just for the hell of it. Yeah, that's what I thought.
• 31:59
That way we have one of these things in the can, as they say. Yeah. If you, if you feel free, bring beer. Bring beer. We like beer. 826 East Locust Street, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, 53212. Beautiful Riverwest.
• 32:12
All right, later for you. Ciao. Bye bye.
• 32:17
