- 0:04Good morning. This is the Sacramento Brief, your
- 0:08weekday roundup of overnight headlines and what's
- 0:11ahead across the city. I'm Carol. It's Friday,
- 0:16August 28th, 2026. Let's get you caught up. We
- 0:20begin in South Hagenwood where Sacramento police
- 0:22are investigating a shooting around 645 p .m.
- 0:26yesterday. Evening officers responded to the
- 0:29area of Del Paso Boulevard and Helena Avenue.
- 0:31Police found a man with a leg injury that investigators
- 0:34believe was to be caused by a ricocheting bullet.
- 0:37He was taken to a hospital for treatment. Officers
- 0:40also located and detained a suspect. Police have
- 0:43not released additional details about what led
- 0:45up to that shooting. And a heads up, if you're
- 0:48heading out tonight, Sacramento Police will be
- 0:50conducting a DUI checkpoint somewhere within
- 0:53the city from 8 p .m. until 1 a .m. tomorrow
- 0:57morning. Police say checkpoint locations are
- 1:00selected based on data involving impaired driving
- 1:03crashes. And remember, impairment does not only
- 1:06mean alcohol. Some prescription and over -the
- 1:09-counter medications can affect your ability
- 1:11to drive. And while marijuana is legal in California,
- 1:15driving under the influence of it is not. A first
- 1:18-time DUI can cost an average of... a little
- 1:21over $13 ,000 in fines and penalties, along with
- 1:25a suspended license. So wherever your Friday
- 1:28night takes you, plan ahead and get home safely.
- 1:32Today, you might see a few drops this morning.
- 1:35There's a 20 % chance of rain before 11 a .m.,
- 1:38followed by mostly cloudy skies and a high near
- 1:4187. Tonight... Clouds gradually clear with a
- 1:44low around 60 and the weekend is looking beautiful.
- 1:47Saturday will be sunny with a high near 89 dropping
- 1:51to a low of about 57 overnight and Sunday more
- 1:54sunshine with a high around 88. Today's Sacramento

- 2:31Four Sacramento properties officially have a
- 2:33new distinction. The City Council recently added
- 2:36four buildings to Sacramento's Register of Historic
- 2:39and Cultural Resources. They include three homes
- 2:42and the former El Dorado School, with architecture
- 2:46ranging from Queen Anne and Spanish Revival to
- 2:49Tudor and Colonial Revival. The oldest is a 1901
- 2:53Queen Anne home at 3137 33rd Street in Oak Park.
- 2:58dating back to the neighborhood's development
- 3:00as Sacramento's first streetcar suburb. The former
- 3:05El Dorado School at 5241 J Street opened in 1921
- 3:09and still features its Spanish Revival clay tile
- 3:13roof, arch entrances, and ornamental bell tower.
- 3:18Also making the list, a 1928 Tudor Revival home
- 3:22at 1957 13th Avenue and a 1941 Colonial Revival
- 3:27residence at 1445 45th Street in East Sacramento.
- 3:32Historic designation doesn't mean the property
- 3:35can never change. It means future exterior alterations
- 3:39are reviewed with a historic character in mind.
- 3:42The properties may also qualify for Sacramento's
- 3:45Mill Act program, which can provide property
- 3:49tax savings in exchange for preserving and maintaining
- 3:53historic buildings. You're tuned in to the Sacramento
