- 1:33episode of The Saint. The original air at eight February the eleventh of nineteen
- 1:38fifty one and the title The Bride Who Lost Her Groom. The Adventures of
- 2:07the Saint starring Vincent Price. The Saint based on characters created by Leslie Charteris
- 2:23and known to millions from books, magazines, and motion pictures. The robin
- 2:28Hood of Modern Crime now comes transcribe to radio, starring Hollywood's brilliant and talented
- 2:31actor Vincent Price as the saint. Personally, Lady, the name is Louis.
- 2:44But please hurry, okay, but where to? I don't care you
- 2:49don't. I don't like to mention this, lady, but I think you
- 2:53mislaid your groom. What, of course a girl will get marriage is kind
- 2:57of excited. Maybe she forgets a little shop from here in there. But
- 3:00lady, not your husband. I'm not married. Look, you're all dressed
- 3:04up like your bride. You come running out of that church there was having
- 3:07a wedding. They thought they were. But oh, I want Jimmy.
- 3:12Please, lady, don't don't cry. If I had Jimmy, I give
- 3:15him to you. Who's Jimmy? I love him and we were going to
- 3:17get married. And I went to the church and everybody was there except except
- 3:23Jimmy. I called everywhere. I know something terrible must have happened to it.
- 3:29Huh for a girl in your position, you know what I think you
- 3:34need? What a saint mister Temple, I hope you don't mind our budge.
- 3:49You didn't like this, of course not, LOUI ain't. But you
- 3:51see this here is Oh, I'm Carol Blair. Uh huh, Miss Blair.
- 3:54But by this time she's supposed to have been missus Snyder. Yeah,
- 3:59but she ain't not econd of mister Snyder didn't show up at the altar.
- 4:02So Miss Blair please sit down, thank you. Here, have a handkerchief.
- 4:10I don't want to hankerchief. I want Jimmy. I don't have Jimmy.
- 4:14I might perhaps try to find him, whether I can or not?
- 4:17Is something else again? However, have you thought of the possibility that he
- 4:20might have changed his mind about matrimony? Oh no, he wouldn't have.
- 4:26He loved me. Well, mister Temple, there's nothing that could have kept
- 4:30Jimmy from marrying me, nothing except death. Thank you for bringing me home,
- 4:42mister Temple. You're very welcome. Carol. I'm sorry I cried so
- 4:46much. I'll call you as soon as I have any news. Good night.
- 4:55Yeah. Miss Blair lives in a very man in mansion, so she
- 5:00does. Well, let's go, Louis. Okay, what James Snyder's apartment.
- 5:08Huh do you think maybe he overslept? I doubt it. And mister
- 5:13Temple, I read a book once, sir, I wouldn't brewed about it,
- 5:15Louis, Oh, listen, in this here book, a girl's fellow
- 5:18don't show up to marry her, and a kind of he's dead. You
- 5:20know what kind of somebody killed him? Oh? Well, that would explain
- 5:24why he's dead, all right, so the girl says, sounds in those
- 5:28days girls used to say song. That ain't what Miss Carrol Blair said.
- 5:31I guess you didn't read the book. Were probably too busy clipping her coupones.
- 5:35Oh he's loaded her, she is loaded, well, money and everything.
- 5:43I wonder if that's what James Snyder thought. Huh oh yeah, Miss
- 5:47Blatt told us he was broke. Hey, I got the solution, Yes,
- 5:51Louis, maybe he got a job. This year is a very fancy
- 6:08five hallway, mister Temple, So it is guardy but not neat one see
- 6:13one. See yes, how can a guy with no doll affought to live
- 6:18here? Well? I will ask him if he answers that door he's in?
- 6:26Hello, except he's a she. Good evening. May we come in
- 6:32all right, thank you. It's a Templar. Maybe she's why Snyder didn't
- 6:39show up. I think we stop here. No, yes, miss,
- 6:45I am Mary. Oh Mary, this is Louis. Hello. Yeah,
- 6:48and I'm Simon Templar. Ah, you are the same. I'm afraid I
- 6:55am spending the winter here in this attaptment. So right now, I have
- 7:00read the book you see, vocan American History. You're a student. What
- 7:05do you think I think he graduated? Say? Oh, why the book?
- 7:10Then? Well, I'm not so long in this country, and I
- 7:14wish to learn about the American people. American men. Oh, they're not
- 7:17that different from frenchmen. Maybe so, but it's the little difference that comets.
- 7:25Perhaps, you know, there are better ways of learning than from books.
- 7:29Why don't you ask Jimmy he is out. Yes, he's marrying himself.
- 7:35It is not right what I'm saying. He's marrying a girl. That's
- 7:40more usual. You don't mind. I do not mind. Sometimes close friends
- 7:45of the groom do they say things like what on earth does he see in
- 7:48her? But I am knowing what he sees in her. Be careful.
- 7:53One million dollars is not bad. Fine, well that is Carol is a
- 7:59very pretty too, despite a million dollars. Who cares because you'll probably laugh
- 8:05and laugh and are you Jimmy's sister? But if you're not his sister,
- 8:11you must be. You look very pretty in red Simon, but it is
- 8:16not necessary to blush. I am Jimmy. Curious time for bed? You
- 8:22said, wife? Why excuse me? H hello? Huh he's not here.
- 8:33That's your templar is here? Goodbye's the door man. I was saying,
- 8:41you said you were Jimmy's wife. He's true. Well, then if
- 8:45he'd married Carol, it would have also been bigger me. I am fine.
- 8:48The lawyers a divorced not so good. So now Jimmy marry a rich
- 8:54girl. Maybe Jimmy gives me a big present. The name for it is
- 9:01so so. The other name is blackmail. You are a funny man.
- 9:05I haven't been trying. Maybe you go away now I'm Mary. I have
- 9:09news for you. What kind of news? Jimmy didn't show up at the
- 9:11altar? You make the joke once more? No joke. He's terrible.
- 9:16It means that Jimmy hasn't married that million dollars yet. I think of the
- 9:22poor girl who waits at the altar. Almost I cry for her. Your
- 9:26eyes are dry, I said, almost. Goodbye. You want to be
- 9:31alone from you? Yes, goodbye also to you. Oh oh, thanks
- 9:37for remembering me in time to say goodbye. Mister Templey. We're leaving doing
- 9:41except Mary. If you happen to run into Jimmy, yes, advise him
- 9:46to be very careful. So to date, he's left one woman at the
- 9:50altar, another in his apartment. He'd be safer juggling dynamite. About Maurice's
- 10:03character, I got nothing to say but about her figure. I also got
- 10:09nothing to say. Oh, I can dream. It's dark. It usually
- 10:15is at this time of night. I know, but I don't hope to
- 10:18mention it back to the cat. I suppose that, hey, you tempt
- 10:24less her me? Yeah? Who wants to know? Who's asking you?
- 10:28You are? She'll figure it out, all right. You got a pencil
- 10:31and paper, maybe, wise guy, if you don't mind my intruding em
- 10:35Simon Tender, well, thanks for telling me Si, Hey you can't.
- 10:41I did. I don't move too quick him. I gave the butt,
- 10:43But it's you want pointing a business in getting the car, not just yet.
- 10:48If you hurt, Louis, you want to get shot, not especially
- 10:52the first time. Gotta look at Lowie. He's unconscious. Hey, what
- 10:56was the idea? And all I wanted was you? So let's get going,
- 11:01Louis. From what I gave him, he'll wake up, but you
- 11:03won't if you don't get in the car very well, your name would be
- 11:13you already know mine? Where are we going? That's what you're gonna tell
- 11:16me. I am yeah, because we're on our way to visit Jimmy Snyder.
- 11:22You tell me just so happens? Is the present? Address slips my
- 11:26mind? So give her or ouse No, no tonight, we don't play
- 11:31tonight. It's what keeps Take me to Snyder. Nobody likes to die.
- 11:46This is where you live, not quite yet. Hallways is a draft,
- 11:50Dave. Huh, thank you. Snyder's in your apartment. It will be
- 11:56inside in a moment. Hold it or what shut up? Okay? Oh
- 12:07small, straight ahead? You mean now you've cased the joint. I mean
- 12:16I wanted to get that light up now, Tepler. Yeah, I don't
- 12:20see Snyder, you know, now that you mentioned it, I don't see
- 12:24neither. You could overdo that light stuff, do you really think. So
- 12:28where is he? I don't know, but he might be along at any
- 12:31moment. Yeah, why not? How would you like a slap of the
- 12:35eye? Put your gun down and try it? Why if I would Marie
- 12:41approve of your language, not to mention your tactics. She don't have to
- 12:43want no one who gives her orders. And thank you? Oh what telling
- 12:50me that you're the person who spoke to her over the phone a little while
- 12:52ago back at Snadie's apartment explains how you happen to know? I was there,
- 12:56big good? And now what I want to know is when is Snyder
- 12:58going to show him? Yeah? Of course he may have mislaid his timetable,
- 13:03Yeah, or perhaps even his life. Hey, templar, Yes,
- 13:16I'm beginning to think that Snyder maybe ain't gonna show at the beginning. It
- 13:20shows promise in time. You may have lots of little thoughts, all of
- 13:24them said he might be along. I offered no guarantees. Nobody's offered a
- 13:31guarantee on your life. From sheer oversight, you could be playing me for
- 13:35adult. Oh good, heavens, no, are you a dope? Where
- 13:41Snyder? Well, men who have just been married usually spend the time immediately
- 13:46he ducked the church. That's interesting, But how did you now? I
- 13:50know something else, however, that you don't know. What's that? The
- 13:54door behind you has just being sneaked open, very very softly. Huh huh
- 14:01hah Oh, I amuse you. You kill me. You're so funny,
- 14:03you exaggerate. I'm not the one who may kill you. There's a revolver
- 14:07barrel poking it snout around the edge of that door. Point if it's aimed
- 14:11at you. Well, I don't take my eyes off you, mister.
- 14:15I don't suppose there's anything I could say that would stop that little stranger from
- 14:18shooting whoever he or she is. I do dislike having my home used as
- 14:24a shooting gallery, though neighbors complain. So, mister Davan, would you
- 14:28mind going away and being shot someplace out? I am staying right here.
- 14:33Oh, get out of my way. No, oh, you fool.
- 14:37I want to go after whoever shot you. That trick. It's some kind
- 14:41of trick. You moving up? Oh, it's Lieutenant Archer homicide. Hello,
- 14:54Lieutenant, this is Simon Temple. Lieutenant Archer just grab his nash for
- 14:58a quick up to the amazon. Lieutenant archer hasn't got an ash. He's
- 15:03doing it the hard way. Good night, Lieutenant. Yeah, let's stop
- 15:05gnashing your teeth and guess what I've got. I wouldn't want it. I'm
- 15:09a married man. His name used to be Dugan, Anthony Dugan. I
- 15:11don't like him. Someone else didn't like him harder. So now he's dead.
- 15:16My apartment got the killer there too. Sorry. No, well,
- 15:20get in touch with me when you do, all right, Lieutenant, I'll
- 15:22be right down. Simon. He doesn't make a pretty corpse, and he
- 15:33makes a very dead one, though, friend of yours, Lieutenant, neither
- 15:37of us really cares. Yeah, company Simon. Who oh, Louis Louis,
- 15:43he says, that's what he said. Louis, you're not hurt.
- 15:46No, No, In my family, everybody goes around with two heads.
- 15:50There was nothing I could do. Hang out with the Saints and see Johns
- 15:54Hopkins from a bottle, mister temple Ware is that who? Look? And
- 15:58I'm gonna that's him? Yeah, Louis, but he ain't. He ain't
- 16:03breathing, No, Louis, Lieutenant, Yeah, Louis and I have an
- 16:07errand you mind are leaving? Thanks for asking so long go bye. Luis
- 16:12coming, but to wear I think perhaps it's time we visited Carol Blair.
- 16:19Huh do you think maybe she needs help? Help or an alibi? Looks
- 16:36like the mansion has all closed up to then, hope not. Maybe she's
- 16:40asleep. She is she hasn't read the right books. A woman has just
- 16:42been left at the altar never sleeps, so now that they don't get sleepy,
- 16:47I have nothing but nothing to say to the press. Who's he?
- 16:52I don't know? To me, he looks like an outfielder from left field.
- 16:55I might I beg your pardon, You, sir, would be a
- 17:00Blair. What does the A stand for? You may make all the jokes
- 17:06after I shot to go out? Good night, we are coming in,
- 17:07mister Blair. Thank you pushing type only when necessary. You're Carol's father,
- 17:14uncle, young man uncle? And who are you? Simon templar? H
- 17:18this is Lewis hm hmm to night. Everybody goes hmmm. Why does he
- 17:22have to use a question mark for me? Your niece asked me the helper,
- 17:26mister Blair, Carol is a young idiot. Youth has no monopoly on
- 17:30idiocy. I am almost squibbed something that hasn't happened to me in the year.
- 17:36How about an offer of employment? The last one I received was in
- 17:40the early thirties. Since then, no one's been vulgar enough to That is
- 17:45hardly your concern, is it? It might be by the way Marie sends
- 17:48your love not here, I beg your pardon. Well we are men of
- 17:52the world, true, But still then you knew Jimmy was married. I
- 17:56would you like a spot of something truth, I'm afraid we're temporarily out of
- 18:00that commodity. Dugan is dead, mister Blair. Indeed, how pleasant to
- 18:06discover that thugs like him are mortal. Were you the one who tested his
- 18:11mortality he was murdered, Uh, no doubt. Whoever murdered him did so
- 18:15with the best of intentions. It wasn't I. However, you haven't asked
- 18:18me where Jimmy is. You haven't implied that you know, do you?
- 18:22No? You want to know a worse I do in order to test his
- 18:26mortality, nondren. I wanted Jimmy to Medicarry wanted it very badly. Oh,
- 18:33mister Chandler and Lois, I'm keeping the franchise open. Hello, Louis,
- 18:37hullo. I hope you went asleep. Oh no, I couldn't.
- 18:41Simon. Have you found Jimmy? No, I did find Marie. However,
- 18:45who who is Marie? Uncle theobo can tell you, probably with more
- 18:49details than I would know. Uncle. Is she melty? She used to
- 18:55be er well friendly with Jimmy at one time? Friendly will you? You
- 19:00might say that as a matter of fact, she carried it to the extinctive
- 19:03marrying him. Oh no, Uncle, you're a joke, my dear.
- 19:07Perhaps you'd let her lie down. Uncle, I warned you time and time
- 19:10again. I'm not a child. I never thought you were ill. Mister
- 19:12Templar, it isn't true, is it that Jimmy was married? I'm afraid
- 19:15it is, But it can't be otherwise. Why would he have been ready
- 19:21to marry you? But he was under the impression that he'd been divorced from
- 19:25his first wife. Oh and the divorce wasn't any good. So it seems
- 19:29then then Jimmy did love me. Jimmy would be the best one to answer
- 19:33that, which reminds me, Louis and I have another errand to perform.
- 19:37I can't tell us yet whether it would be a matter for the police or
- 19:41for the medical examiner. The sample. You're excited, worried. What about
- 19:56Lourie. That's why we're ringing a doorbell. No answer, it's locked.
- 20:02I I don't like that. It's not much of a lock. Don't look
- 20:06now. But you just ruined that lot. It's not important. What is
- 20:08important is oh, Marie, Yes, blood on him? I can she's
- 20:18dead, yes, close range. The blood leads from the couch there to
- 20:26this overturned end table. I means she crawled after whoever shot her left her
- 20:30for dead at the couch. She wasn't quite dead. She fell to the
- 20:34floor, managed to reach the end table, knocked it over, and started
- 20:38to read a magazine or something, because there's one right onto her hand to
- 20:41read. Actually, she tore her page out, that's all she was able
- 20:47to do it, which means, let's see one side the back cover.
- 20:52Yeah, there's a full page advertisement for Hamilton watches. However, she wanted
- 20:57to know what time. It was a bad joke, but I don't feel
- 21:00good. She's evidently trying to tell us something with that ad, something about
- 21:03her murderer. Hey, maybe the guy who shot up was a watchmaker.
- 21:07Huh yeah, possibly that more obviously that his name was Hamilton. So far
- 21:14as we know, there's been no Hamilton connected with the case, and would
- 21:18be stretching coincidence too far anyway, that he made clue like that. Now
- 21:23I'll have to wait. No, I can't wait too, I'm calling the
- 21:30Blairs. You want to let Carol know her husband is now a widower.
- 21:33I want to find out who's home. Hello, Carol, Simon, templar
- 21:38Simon, you found Jimmy. Not exactly, Carol, is your uncle in
- 21:42No, he went for a walk in the park. He was upset,
- 21:45Thanks Carol, goodbye. Come on, Louie, where we're gone. We're
- 21:48upset too, So let's make it the park. You know, this year
- 22:00just happens to be a very very dark No sign of uncle Theobo's Temple.
- 22:08You think there's something funny about him taking a walk this time of night.
- 22:11Tony hmm, not necessarily. Let's called it dangerous. No, I'm nervous,
- 22:15let's not. Maybe maybe he used to be a watchmaker. It's possible,
- 22:23mister Temple. You don't just thought of something else. You kind of
- 22:26stopped looking for Jimmy Snyding. You think it's it's hopeless I don't know other
- 22:32things to worry about first this night, or if he's still alive. You
- 22:36wouldn't bet on that. Hey, look up ahead by the side of the
- 22:40road. Yeah, the bowl. It's waiting for the traffic lights to change.
- 22:45Not many cars or driving around through the park this time and night,
- 22:48though, But there is one park down the road a bit. Come on,
- 22:49Yeah, that lights change, you're starting to cross. Here's the car,
- 22:55dear boat see a boat you ain't heard. He's out of the rock
- 22:57with clear boat. The car hit him, no lights, no license plate
- 23:04type has he done? No car just sideswiped it. He sable? Hello?
- 23:18That driving? No? No, no murder is driving that car?
- 23:22Tried to kid you say, well, we'll get an ambulance for you.
- 23:25He'll be all right. But like, I've got to know something. Do
- 23:27you have a place of your own besides Carol's house? Yes, I keep
- 23:33a small room. Shall be vanity of mine, but it belongs to me.
- 23:38Where is it? Thanking tennis blace, apartment three? Have fun?
- 23:45And do we go get helpful him? How way did you get back?
- 23:52And then and then we'll remember the forgotten man. Hm. You ain't a
- 24:10very elegant dumb, Louis, I'm worried about who's killing everybody. No,
- 24:14I think that's fairly clear. Oh, you speak for yourself, John,
- 24:18But Mary's dying action it puzzles me. That ad for watches, it seems
- 24:22the point nowhere. It just adds an unnecessary complication for me. All complications
- 24:27are unnecessary. No, mister Temple, maybe what you need as a secretary.
- 24:32What all I said was, Louis, I love you. What Look
- 24:34this is my busy weekend. Please this apartment three? Oh, this is
- 24:42where he hangs out when he ain't to be attle rich. Hey yeah,
- 24:48if I'm back there, this is closet. Oh look now, but that
- 24:53dare must be Jimmy Snyder all tied up and gag. You're quite right,
- 24:57Louis, I better run tied Louis, you better make a phone call to
- 25:02the police. Mister Snyder can untie himself without too much difficulty. I suspect.
- 25:07Hey, hey, he's got a hand. I rather thought you would.
- 25:10I'll take that gun. And oh you felt you had to do that?
- 25:15Of course he wasn't tied up very good. No, you all right,
- 25:21I'll phone the police. But what'll I tell him to come and pick
- 25:23up mister James Snyder, vanishing bridegrooman murderer, Simon, I don't understand.
- 25:38How could it have been Jimmy, Well, he was married to Marie.
- 25:41Marie and her happy little trigger man Dugan were preparing to blackmail him as soon
- 25:45as he married. You can. Jimmy didn't care for the program, and
- 25:48so he killed him. Right, Louis, Your uncle also knew, so
- 25:52that meant that he too would have to die. But Jimmy tried to arrange
- 25:56it so that Theobald's death would seem to be an accident. After he ran
- 26:02him down in the park, he went to the abol's apartment and pat himself
- 26:04up. He knew someone would find him there shortly, and everybody would have
- 26:08thought that uncle had killed Marie and Dugan. Simon, However, did you
- 26:12know Marie she was murdered in her living room. She was wearing a nightgown
- 26:18at the time. It's hardly likely she would have perceived any ordinary visitor in
- 26:22that state except her husband Jimmy. Right, Lurie O in no look watch
- 26:26the business with the watch ad. Well, we know that Marie dying tore
- 26:30a page out of a magazine obviously, because that page contained an indication of
- 26:36who had killed it. White a minute, all that page contained was an
- 26:37ad for Hamilton watching you're forgetting something late. What was Marie doing the first
- 26:41time that we met, it was, oh, yeah, she was reading
- 26:45a book about American history. I remembered that. And then when you mentioned
- 26:52the word secretary, Yeah, this, I mentioned Laura. I knew whom
- 26:55she'd named this her murderer. Uh huh, I still don't know, Lewis.
- 27:00Yeah, like in American history, who was Alexander Hamilton? Oh?
- 27:03Oh we pilgrim father, No, Pilgrim's son, Louis Alexander Hamilton was the
- 27:10first Secretary of the Treasury. Ah hah. So so who's the Secretary of
- 27:17the Treasury today? Oh that's a guy named Wait a minute, let me
- 27:22look at the dollar bill. Oh yeah's right. And Jimmy Schneider was a
- 27:26suspect. So it goes to show people on to read American history. You
- 27:33know, Marie was awfully bright. I'm not. I feel terrible, Simon.
- 27:38You needn't Carol. You'll get over Jimmy, do you think so,
- 27:42Simon, Well, Lewis, Ohymester Temple, please go take a cab.
- 28:07You have been listening to another transcribed adventure of the Saint, the robin Hood
- 28:11of modern crime. Now here is our starve and some price. Ladies and
- 28:15gentlemen. From the past, we have received a heritage, our American heritage,
- 28:21and it consists of many things. It's an ideal and a way of
- 28:26life. It's everything. America stands for our heritage. We can repay the
- 28:32past only by using our heritage well to day, by taking pride in the
- 28:37most complete expression of individual liberties, civil rights and personal dignity. And by
- 28:44doing so we'll be guaranteeing our future. For we have learned from history that
- 28:48unused freedom as a habit of slipping away. Of course, using our freedom
- 28:53makes certain demands upon us, But to the people of many countries today,
- 28:59these demands would constitute a gift beyond price. They mean voting in an informed
- 29:04way, serving on juries, taking an interest in having a voice in all
- 29:10the affairs of the community, the state, and the nation. All this
- 29:14preserves our heritage. By exercising it, and by making our form of government
- 29:18work better at home, we strengthen democracy everywhere. We provide an example of
- 29:25free people governing themselves through a free government, a dynamic example of man's finest
- 29:30ideals at work. To every American then falls the task of protecting our heritage
- 29:37for freedom is everybody's job. This is Vincent Price inviting you to join us
- 29:42again next week at this same time for another exciting adventure of The Saint the
- 29:48Night. This script of The Saint was written by Lewis Vitties. In our
- 30:07cast, you heard Violivan as Marie and Sharon Douglas as Carol. Sheldon Leonard

- 30:29production of Bloodline. While You Saint fans will be glad to know that The
- 30:32Saint comic books are now on sale at all news stands. Three Chimes mean
- 30:36Good Times on NBC. There's fun every Sunday on NBC with two delightful and
- 30:42sometimes very bewildering families. The Blandings family continues to have typically suburban adventures in
- 30:48their famous dream house. Carry Grant and Betsy Drake star as mister and Missus
- 30:52Blandings. Sunday also means a visit with the hilarious Harris's and their friends on
- 30:56the Phil Harris Alice Fay Show. This is end the National Broadcasting Company.
- 31:12Welcome back Well. I continue to enjoy the Saint and Sheldon Leonard as a
- 31:21regular guest thug. It's a bit of an oddity, but it's not unheard
- 31:26of. Longtime listeners will remember when we played the series Rogues Gallery, where
- 31:33Gerald Moore was on the show nearly every week within Rogue's Gallery with Dick Powell.
- 31:41However, he was also almost always the murderer, which did subtract a
- 31:48bit from the sense of suspense. But there were a couple episodes where they
- 31:52surprised me by having Gerald Moore on the episode but not actually the killer.
- 31:57Like that could happen any that will actually do it for today, join us
- 32:02back here tomorrow for Police Headquarters and then a week from tomorrow the Adventures of
- 32:08Ellery Queen. In the meantime, send your comments to Box thirteen at Great
