- 0:33Hamster with a blunt pen knife for doing quicker, quicker.
- 0:37Welcome back to a Hamster with a Blood pen knife, the Doctor Who
- 0:40Commentary podcast. Now, Paul, I've got a very
- 0:44serious question to ask you. Oh shoot, go for it.
- 0:48Well, I understand that from previous episodes that you have
- 0:53created an army of deaf machines to conquer the universe.
- 0:58Is that right? Well, I mean, you may have heard
- 1:02this, there may have been some speculation and rumour, but that
- 1:08is simply not true, Joe. Well.
- 1:11Look, don't look behind me. I'd like to inform you that I am
- 1:16in fact the evil genius that created the gay disco robots,
- 1:22the Mevellums, to battle it out with your collections.
- 1:26I've been in a an impasse with those guys as stalemates, if you
- 1:30will. You created the gay robots.
- 1:34That's. Right.
- 1:35From the disco. Oh my goodness.
- 1:37In a moment of insane genius, I have created a virus that, of
- 1:45course, because it's me, makes your evil robots ejaculate
- 1:51everywhere and die. Well, well, that's you may have
- 1:56done that, but before you can even consider releasing this
- 1:59virus, I'm just going to pull your finger off your belt and
- 2:03you're going to do that weird dance that you do.
- 2:04Oh. No.
- 2:05Look, Look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look,
- 2:07look, look, look, look, look, look.
- 2:09Oh, dear. Oh, Paul.
- 2:11I mean, I just. You're so kind.
- 2:12The way you go along with all this idiocy.
- 2:15Thank you. It's like it's like doing an
- 2:17improv class like calling. I should be on whose line is it
- 2:22anyway or something? Have you ever done an improv
- 2:24class? Oh God, no, no.
- 2:26I did 1 and I was so embarrassed I froze in the middle of 30
- 2:29people. See, I like to think of myself
- 2:32as being like this amazing raconteur you can do, you know,
- 2:35chat shit and stuff. But I mean, if anyone listen to
- 2:38Part 1 where I fucked up the intro, really, really will know
- 2:42that. Yeah.
- 2:43I don't have the confidence to kind of put myself out there
- 2:45like that, I think. A little bit of behind the
- 2:47scenes information though. If you did, and I don't think
- 2:50you did because you've covered it well, think that Paul did
- 2:53have a dodgy start to episode 1. You need to know that I gave him
- 2:58no time to prepare whatsoever. I said, right, you're starting,
- 3:00let's go 321. I think it was in the moment.
- 3:03It wasn't the spotlight. But I should have you know, I
- 3:07should have improved it yes and you know, just it's all yes and
- 3:10isn't it and I I, I dropped the ball.
- 3:12So apologies, ham fan. I apologise for the intro to
- 3:16Part 1, but hopefully the intro to this one made-up for.
- 3:19It if you want to be a rock on tour, you know, just start
- 3:21quoting Henry Gordon Jago Lions, you know.
- 3:25Yes, can. You do 1.
- 3:29See, this is this is where I'm going to fall down because you
- 3:31put me on the spot and I'm like, beyond, oh, corks.
- 3:35I can't think of a single thing. Oh, this was great.
- 3:38You know this one, the most formidable combination in the
- 3:42annals of criminology. It is my oh God, what is he
- 3:47saying? It is my pleasure and honour to
- 3:50be working with you on this devilish affair.
- 3:53See how so much so much smoother and better than than I?
- 3:57So yeah, I think, I think that's your bag mate.
- 3:59I. Thought Corks was pretty good,
- 4:01actually. What we're here to watch today.
- 4:06We are here for the final, the climax, the yeah, the amazing,
- 4:12stunning ending to Destiny of the Darks.
- 4:15I think I'm going to fight you in this episode, you know,
- 4:18because you said earlier in this commentary that you actually
- 4:22think that there's some difficulties.
- 4:24I think this is a great episode 4.
- 4:27I think for me, this is where it falls down a little bit and we
- 4:32talked so much about, I mean, the the high points of the the
- 4:35story so far. The direction is great.
- 4:37I do think the design is really, really good and I I think it's
- 4:41really solidly put together. But here we've got a hell of a
- 4:45lot of David Goodison as Davros. I just don't think he commands.
- 4:51He Duffy has quite has the gravitas and he doesn't deliver
- 4:54on the lines. He gets some kind of potentially
- 4:56juicy lines that a good performance could really make
- 5:00sing. And I just don't think he kind
- 5:02of delivers here. The scenes where he's in the
- 5:04kind of Daleky Basie area and he's kind of commanding those
- 5:08like 3 or 4 Daleks there. Yeah, not not great.
- 5:12And in particular the bit where Tom is kind of disable the Dalek
- 5:17and it's failing. Around.
- 5:20I love that. And David Goodison is like.
- 5:22Left, left to your left to your right this way.
- 5:29Yeah, I I think, I think other other actors could have made
- 5:33that work. I just don't think he does here.
- 5:36Don't like a bit of farce in your Dalek action?
- 5:39Again, Willie, I don't know it. It falls and and I yeah, I love,
- 5:44I love camp, I love silly. My sense of humour is pretty
- 5:47silly and I love humour and Doctor Who.
- 5:51And this hadn't bothered me before.
- 5:52Like I talked earlier, this hadn't bothered me previously,
- 5:56but like having to look at this critically now and, and this is
- 5:59how I really wanted to go. Yeah, this is way better than
- 6:02Genesis because Genesis is massively overrated.
- 6:07It is a well executed story. There's lots to enjoy with
- 6:12Genesis, but it's I, I'm quite a country bastard, like a lot of
- 6:17fans. I'm quite a country bastard
- 6:19really. So when everyone tells me
- 6:20something's brilliant, I'm like, it's not, it's not all that.
- 6:25And I want, I want destiny to, I want destiny to be better.
- 6:29And it kind of isn't quite. What surprised me watching it
- 6:34this time was they saved some money for the end of the story.
- 6:37So there's a big action set piece outside the Movellin ship
- 6:42where people are being shot down left, right and centre and the
- 6:45disco robots are falling down in slow motion.
- 6:48I mean all it. Needs to be in this episode is
- 6:50really good. Yeah, you're right.
- 6:51Then they're put in a few strings of, you know, macho,
- 6:54macho man. As the Movellins are falling
- 6:57down. It'll be more.
- 6:58But I mean, I love the shots as well of the Daleks on three
- 7:01levels, carrying the ball to the ship.
- 7:03Yeah, that's great. I mean, when they blow up, it's
- 7:06a fucking amazing explosion. And the amount of petrol they
- 7:09must have put inside those shells, I mean the bits of Dalek
- 7:12fly up into the stratosphere. You're right, it is pretty.
- 7:16There's a lot of action in this one.
- 7:19You are right. And and like, it has been all
- 7:21the way through. King Grieve directs it
- 7:22amazingly. You know, David Yip looks like
- 7:25an absolute badass. Is a shot of him like kneeling
- 7:28down and kind of firing at the the Daleks?
- 7:31Yeah. So there's a lot of really cool
- 7:32stuff like that. I think the only thing that lets
- 7:34it down for me really is is Davros.
- 7:37And then I do want to talk about the bit the doctor's going,
- 7:42Davros, because, you know, the conclusion that the story draws
- 7:48is, is that Tom Baker is scarier than David Goodison could ever
- 7:53be. And in a moment of insane
- 7:56lunacy, he grasped across his hands and slapped down on the
- 8:02bow with this huge grin on his face.
- 8:04And honest to God, I don't think Tom Baker's ever seem more
- 8:07dangerous in the role. It's so.
- 8:10Funny, Yeah. Would you say he's a dangerous
- 8:12man when he's a dangerous fellow?
- 8:13When he doesn't know what he's doing, that is.
- 8:16That's a great and yeah, yeah, yeah, he is really good in this.
- 8:19I mean, and I shouldn't laugh. I shouldn't.
- 8:22But the biggest belly laugh I get in this whole story is when
- 8:26Tolkim goes bye bye. I mean, it's just ridiculous.
- 8:34But well, look, let's let's see how this climactic final episode
- 8:42goes, shall we? I mean, we may change our mind
- 8:44as we go through. Indeed, Yeah.
- 8:46I mean, talking over it always helps it.
- 8:48Does it does? As long as there's lots of
- 8:52pretty pictures I'll be happy. Indeed.
- 8:54Yeah, absolutely. Would you care to count us in?
- 8:57OK. Then if we are ready, we are
- 9:00going to go in 321. Down the great time tunnel of
- 9:07the Tom Baker sequence. Before we get into this one, one
- 9:11thing I did want to talk about is the the season 17 trailer
- 9:16that kind of preceded this, the one where it's where there's a
- 9:22voice. There's like a kind of really
- 9:24roughly, roughly put together kind of jungle set and the
- 9:27TARDIS is in this this kind of TV jungle and there's a voice
- 9:30that says Doctor awake. You've never.
- 9:34Seen that? You must say, oh, you must have
- 9:36seen it. It's on a Blu-ray.
- 9:37Look it up on YouTube. It's like it got big letters at
- 9:40the beginning. It says suddenly, suddenly,
- 9:42suddenly, and it's like the return the tone of season 17.
- 9:44It's really funny and it's the kind of it's it's not this Tom
- 9:49because obviously we talked about how this time is quite
- 9:51sombre. He's playing he's down playing
- 9:53it. But this is more of the the kind
- 9:55of wacky Looney Tunes William Zero Doctor talking about how
- 10:00the universe, the universe has got much more noisy these days
- 10:03and he can't be left in there and he he puts a sign up on the
- 10:06TARDIS offers go like don't disturb until September 1st.
- 10:09I've. Never seen that have.
- 10:11You never seen that? Oh my goodness.
- 10:13Oh, right. OK, well after this.
- 10:15Process on the DVD. Yeah, Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 10:17It's on. I have.
- 10:19To take it out. It's on it's on YouTube just
- 10:21just, yeah, look it up straight away.
- 10:23It's really just a fun little and I love the fact that it's
- 10:26like a, you know, it's a purpose.
- 10:28It's a bespoke trailer. So it's not just a clips from
- 10:31the show. It's like they actually took the
- 10:33effort of getting a bit of scenery and and filming a bit of
- 10:37Tom. That is the difference between
- 10:38when sort of 10 to 15,000,000 people are watching Doctor Who
- 10:43in the 70s, they'll do a bespoke trailer, and when 3 to 5 million
- 10:48people are watching Doctor Who in the late 80s because they
- 10:51didn't even trail Season 26 at all, I don't think.
- 10:56Now, I do need to confess to you, Paul, that I accidentally
- 10:58press play on City of Death Part 1.
- 11:02I suddenly thought, well, where? Where's this impressive.
- 11:04No, no, no, you haven't got to stop.
- 11:06I've sort of tried to figure out whereabouts I would have been in
- 11:09Destiny, The Daleks Part 4, but I'm just going to try and sync
- 11:13up with you now. What?
- 11:14What time stamp are you at? I am at 2:13.
- 11:18Oh my God, I got his spot. Oh wow.
- 11:20Yes. Oh my God, I'm literally there.
- 11:24What? Davros.
- 11:25Yeah, in the control room, surrounded by Daleks.
- 11:27Yeah. And this is this kind of scenes
- 11:29that I was saying. I don't think it just doesn't
- 11:32land for me. I just don't think he's very
- 11:34good in this. I mean, the lies could be great
- 11:37if they were sort of purred, you know, My safety must be your
- 11:40primary concern. You could imagine how someone
- 11:43like wish you would deliver something like that.
- 11:46Absolutely. And you know, we say in the
- 11:49Williams there is full of great actors like that.
- 11:51He would deliver something like that.
- 11:52But this? That's one thing this story
- 11:54doesn't have. What's so funny is that look, he
- 11:58gets this massive disco ball delivered to him and then it
- 12:01lights up like a disco. And then he's saying that is a
- 12:05total I will dispute most. Vigorously Hi, I'm the supreme
- 12:12commander. So now suddenly the Daleks have
- 12:16gone from being in charge of their own destiny to just
- 12:19simpering Subs to Davros. Yeah, well, we were saying
- 12:23earlier, how about that They show so little imagination and
- 12:26the dialogue isn't particularly rich for the for the for the
- 12:28Daleks. So yeah.
- 12:30That is the most 70s shot ever. That zoom in on Davros with that
- 12:35massive crystal ball lit up. I wonder what music he's getting
- 12:41on that. Yeah, what would he listen to?
- 12:44Well. Isco.
- 12:48I was thinking village people. Oh boy, yes, YMCA actually.
- 12:58Do you know all the Mavellans are people of colour, aren't
- 13:00they? Apart from apart from a gala.
- 13:03So I made this mistake years ago.
- 13:05I thought they were all all people of colour.
- 13:07But what's the chops? She's not.
- 13:10She's not at all. Do you know, I wonder if those
- 13:13wigs are available anywhere on eBay?
- 13:16You know, I think you and me would look quite fiction in one
- 13:18of those. Yeah, absolutely we could.
- 13:21We could go down the the gay sci-fi disco robots, of course.
- 13:27One race of robots fighting another.
- 13:30So, and I think this is, this is what Douglas Adams brings to
- 13:33Doctor Who. People say he's shit on
- 13:35structure, right? All the core concepts have been
- 13:39introduced and now in a really playful ways, Rock, paper,
- 13:44scissors. They explain why the two races
- 13:48of robots are stuck in this situation and why.
- 13:51Why a human being or a person with some illogic to them would
- 13:57be able to get out of it. Yeah, because.
- 14:00It's the kind of concept that could be quite difficult for
- 14:03kids to maybe get their head around.
- 14:04And this is like, as you say, it's a really straightforward
- 14:07way of explaining it and. And you can demonstrate it, I
- 14:11think. Yeah, I think it works really,
- 14:12really well. Oh look, it's.
- 14:14Actually dancing with that crystal ball.
- 14:15Now Davros brings the disco. Wherever he goes.
- 14:23What's the most disco Y sort of song?
- 14:25I can't even think now. Yeah, I think way MCA.
- 14:33Yeah, it's the Gator Song. Sure, maybe he's got a lot of
- 14:39Daleks with erect guns around him, and you see now as well.
- 14:47Look at this purely as a script. Yeah, take.
- 14:49Gosh, he's wobbling away in that chair.
- 14:51Really. Yeah.
- 14:52He's like. Like a wobbly Dalek.
- 14:53Yeah, it's crossed. Davros is having a fit.
- 14:57Somebody help him out the. Old boy's falling over again.
- 15:02He's he's cutting between the Doctor and Romana discussing
- 15:06this with Bevellum to Davros and the Daleks talking about it and
- 15:10into cutting those scenes. It's it's well structured.
- 15:14Yeah, yeah. Yeah.
- 15:15And, and it's only here, Part 4, we'll be getting the the full
- 15:19explanation. You know, we've had all that
- 15:21exploration at the beginning where they're kind of like the
- 15:24first part where they're walking through Scar Row and they are,
- 15:27you know, it really does take its time to kind of reveal
- 15:31itself, the story. And yeah, why don't you say?
- 15:35The Terry Nation. Terry Nation wouldn't have
- 15:37thought of rock, paper, scissors, I don't think.
- 15:40He's not a playful writer. No, no, he probably would
- 15:44probably be aligned in there saying some, you know,
- 15:46demonstrate the, the, the logical impasse or something
- 15:50like that. And he probably would have left
- 15:51it up to us to to figure out. Oh I love.
- 15:54This Look at the revellers playing.
- 15:55Yeah, yeah. Did you ever use rock, paper,
- 15:59scissors to sort of determine things in your life?
- 16:01I mean, I do use it quite a lot. I think, I think my kids tend to
- 16:06when they were younger would decide what, you know, he was
- 16:09going to go in the bar 1st and that kind of thing with with
- 16:12real papers. I think this is possibly where I
- 16:15first came across it. I don't know if I, I was aware
- 16:18of it before watching this for the first time.
- 16:20I mean I. I do question.
- 16:22There's one thing I question here, and that is I think
- 16:26statistically the doctor wouldn't win every single time
- 16:29he goes up against the Mavellian.
- 16:31Sometimes they would just accidentally win.
- 16:33Being. Being.
- 16:33Illogical doesn't necessarily mean you're going to, you know,
- 16:37yeah, you're going to look at that.
- 16:39In the background he goes, oh, that looks like a great fun
- 16:41game. He's got a big smile on his
- 16:44face. Peter Streaker, I think he's
- 16:47really striking. We haven't talked about him at
- 16:49all. He's.
- 16:50Beautiful as well, right? Isn't he?
- 16:52Yeah, look, it's. Always.
- 16:54Yeah, yeah. Really unusual.
- 16:57And I think he's terrific in this for someone.
- 17:00I don't think he wasn't that was he more of a dancer than an
- 17:02actor, I think. I think he gives a brilliant
- 17:05performance. I mean.
- 17:07You are sort of allowed to be a bit bland when you're playing a
- 17:11Movellen because you're supposed to be a robot with a flat voice.
- 17:17There's something sort of Serpentine about his eyes.
- 17:20Yeah, yeah. He's really striking and I think
- 17:23I think he very much undervalued villain here.
- 17:28And the scene, the the fight he gets at the end with Romana is
- 17:31brilliant where she kind of drop kicks his arm off.
- 17:35Yeah, it's incredible. And that.
- 17:36Makes perfect sense. We'll go into space, detonate
- 17:40the Nova device, destroy Davros so they've got no advantage, and
- 17:44then we've got our advantage in you.
- 17:46Yeah. It's pure logic, you know.
- 17:50Oh, you nobody destroys that rock there.
- 17:53I mean, it's clearly just full of mud, isn't it?
- 17:55Yeah, but fuck me, there's a bit in a minute where Romana fights
- 18:01one of the mevellums and it's the muckiest action scene since
- 18:05Colony in Space. Yeah, that's.
- 18:06The the scene with Striker yeah yeah that yeah really desperate
- 18:10struggle like already desperate fight and those there is
- 18:14pristine white suit gets all kind of muddied up looks and her
- 18:18coat. That's probably why she wears it
- 18:20again. I like to think that Time Lords
- 18:24are sort of, you know, super football players, which is why
- 18:28when Romana kicks his arm later, it sort of falls off.
- 18:31She's got the. Five muscles of an elephant.
- 18:33Yeah. Oh, Oh, shit.
- 18:36That's Lala Wood. Sorry, sorry.
- 18:38Lala. If you ever have, she's coming.
- 18:39For you now RIP my head off. Paul who?
- 18:45That was literally the worst thing I could say.
- 18:46We. We.
- 18:46Were talking about Nelly the elephant, La La yeah, yeah,
- 18:50yeah. Yeah, yeah, Nelly the elephant.
- 18:52Is pink, therefore no. What is it again?
- 18:54What's the line? Yeah, all elephants are pink.
- 18:57Nelly. Nelly is the elephant.
- 18:59Therefore. Nelly is pink.
- 19:00That's right. Yeah.
- 19:01Yeah. And you know what a human would
- 19:03say? Oh, so they're.
- 19:06They're going to do the same thing.
- 19:07Dave Ross is literally saying, right, we'll lift off, destroy
- 19:10the DOXA, and then we'll have the advantage.
- 19:13OK, so they're both doing. So we're doing, we're unlock a
- 19:15countdown here. Yeah.
- 19:17Yeah. And we said like we.
- 19:20Said at the beginning. There's a lot of lot of action
- 19:22in this this last part. It it reminds go with me.
- 19:26It reminds me a bit of the power of Crawl.
- 19:28You know, in the OK, the I think both the power of crawl and
- 19:33Destiny Daleks climax on a lot of action and a lot of high
- 19:38drama. Yeah.
- 19:40Yeah, where, where they've. Been sort of sedate stories for
- 19:43most of their right. Yeah, no.
- 19:45That's, that's a good point, yeah, yeah.
- 19:48Here you have Daleks with bombs blowing up and big fights
- 19:52outside of spaceships. There you have an enormous squid
- 19:56trying to fuck an oil rig. Oh lala Ward, you are so
- 20:04stunning. She is beautiful and I'll take
- 20:08back my elephant fight. Think she might.
- 20:12Take the compliment, you know. Oh, hang on.
- 20:14I can hear someone at your door. Oh, it's Lala Ward.
- 20:17No. No.
- 20:21Everyone's turning up at your door today.
- 20:23The police, David Gillespie, Pratt, Lala Ward.
- 20:26Anyone else? Oh, that's great.
- 20:30Where he's got the Jelly baby in his hands.
- 20:32Very clear. Somehow wearing that sort of
- 20:36disco electric wig does not diminish her beauty in any way.
- 20:41Oh, no, they're all, they're all stunning.
- 20:43But but yeah, she's, yeah, she's, she's absolutely
- 20:46beautiful. Oh.
- 20:48Is this where the fight starts now?
- 20:49Yes. So we're in the middle of this.
- 20:51Sort of sexy looking quarry. They've literally built the
- 20:54exterior of a spaceship and then they fill it with extras and
- 20:58that's beautiful, Her. Walking out of the spaceship
- 21:00into the quarry, I think that's to you.
- 21:03Yeah, that's. They do more with the sandpit
- 21:05here than they would do in a dozen stories with quarries in
- 21:08the Can you hear the? Music.
- 21:11It's the Star Wars music. Yeah, yeah.
- 21:18Oh. Darling, she's doing the ballet
- 21:20of the. Oh, down she goes.
- 21:24Look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look,
- 21:26look, look. You can see the.
- 21:27Guy with the fly eyes there, so is they're trying to kind of
- 21:31create a kind of ragtag bunch of of slaves there, fly eyes.
- 21:36What are you talking about this? One of one of the slaves has got
- 21:38kind of big circular eyes, like a family.
- 21:42Oh my God, I want to see them again now, Yeah.
- 21:45They get they get a close up during the action scene.
- 21:47Oh my. God, bling bling.
- 21:50Look at those bombs on those, darling.
- 21:55I imagine that's what a Pandora bracelet looks like, you know?
- 22:01There'll be hundreds of mums exploding on Christmas Day.
- 22:06Yeah. Oh, A.
- 22:07Matter of that you could. Could you buy the Dalek with the
- 22:09bombs? I think you could, couldn't you?
- 22:10From BMA, yes. Yeah, yeah, you've got a quick.
- 22:13Win for them. Isn't it I don't have one that's
- 22:15an easy win for them sticking a little yellow thing on the
- 22:18front, but this is I mean what a great one is that cupboards yes
- 22:24I only owned every set last night Oh it's the.
- 22:27Bomb cupboard. It's where you keep your.
- 22:29Bombs, yeah. Paul, the whole place is
- 22:33functional grey, and that's a wooden cupboard.
- 22:36It's not even wood, it's a little bit of MDF or something
- 22:38like that. 70s kind of wood veneer I think.
- 22:41That was Neider's sort of, you know, book cupboards.
- 22:44Back in the night. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 22:46We kept his naughty literature. I mean, isn't this?
- 22:49Great. It's the it's the Trojan
- 22:51Mevellums going in, right? And here we have them taking
- 22:55over the over the ship this is. Interesting thing.
- 22:58Ever speak to me? Like that, again, you keep out
- 23:01of this, it's a personal matter, and you mind your own business
- 23:03too. And then he takes his power back
- 23:07out. Oh, where's the fly man?
- 23:08I want to see him. Oh, this is.
- 23:10The studio. So he's only he's only in the
- 23:12film bits. Well, we go.
- 23:13Outside in a minute, you know, So here we go, Big attack on the
- 23:18So we've got an attack on the spaceship as well.
- 23:22I said, oh, everybody's doing the ballet.
- 23:24Look, it's so funny. And the Doctor?
- 23:27Gets his whistle out. Oh.
- 23:30Dear God. Somewhere in the TARDIS King is
- 23:33going nuts because he's blowing a whistle, I think.
- 23:36That was supposed to be quite a menacing shot, you know, of all
- 23:39the Mavellan's advancing on him, but he didn't quite have the
- 23:43gravity. I think Ken Grieve was going
- 23:45for. Oh, but there's still still.
- 23:48Plenty of action. That's a great sequence.
- 23:51I mean, between the Dalek blasts and the power packs, yeah,
- 23:54everybody has to sort of freeze in space before they fall.
- 23:57They do. Yeah, yeah, the, the Power Pack,
- 24:00I mean the power packs, I I put that in the kind of class of
- 24:03villain weakness, like the Sontarans kind of pro big vent
- 24:07and stuff. It's stuff like that.
- 24:08You know, it's, it might be a bit obvious and it might seem a
- 24:11bit easy just to be able to RIP something off their belt, but I
- 24:14know it kind of works for me. Kids though, right?
- 24:18It's a quick visual way of showing how you defeat them.
- 24:21I mean, I. I love superhero comics and it
- 24:24feels something out of, you know, a comic book.
- 24:28So yeah. Yeah, you're right.
- 24:29And it's quick. Any quick and easy way
- 24:31defeating. And kids can latch onto that
- 24:32Totally. Yeah.
- 24:33Tom Baker. Goes I will return.
- 24:36All right, Tom. Oh, no, here they come.
- 24:42Look, with the bombs, so always see, Oh my God, I've never
- 24:47really thought through episode 4.
- 24:49The Daleks now are on the hunt for the spaceship to blow it up,
- 24:52to stop them going up and destroying the planet.
- 24:55Oh my God, it's so exciting. And they're doing.
- 24:58Something illogical for them because like earlier in the
- 25:01impasse scene before they were like, it's illogical for you to
- 25:05blow, you know, try and blow yourself up.
- 25:07And Davis is like, no, no, he's going to do it.
- 25:09And they're kind of then going off to blow themselves up with
- 25:12the bombs that because they kind of realised that Davros is
- 25:16showing them away. That's kind of maybe not what
- 25:18they would think of, but like scene.
- 25:20To scene, right? It is building momentum.
- 25:23It's building to a climax with action along the way.
- 25:25It's very unusual for classic Coup.
- 25:30Oh, I love this. I mean, in no way is Tom, Is
- 25:33David Goodison the most frightening person in this room?
- 25:36No, Tom Baker's got a big grin on his face.
- 25:42Oh, look, I'm actually going to enjoy these ceilings just a
- 25:44little bit longer, you know, because I don't think I'm going
- 25:46to be seeing many more in these hamster commentaries.
- 25:49No, I mean, you won't really. I mean, it makes all the
- 25:54difference. And he's.
- 25:55Ken Grieves kept up that style all the way through it.
- 25:58So yeah, the direction of this is amazing.
- 26:01Yeah. I'm.
- 26:02Sure, Graham Williams must have been absolutely delighted.
- 26:06Yeah, much like Season 16 and season 15, a lot of the best
- 26:12direction is in the first half of the season, right?
- 26:15Right, but like you know, season 18 gets low like and the leisure
- 26:19height gets lauded for What's this jobs the great love it
- 26:23Bigfoot. Yeah.
- 26:24Right and and for the style of that it is stylish.
- 26:27It's slow as hell, but it's stylish.
- 26:29Taking 5 minutes to cross Brighton Beach.
- 26:31But I don't think it's, I don't think it's more.
- 26:35It's not. I think this is more
- 26:37impressively directed than the less.
- 26:38I've yeah, 100%. Oh this is great.
- 26:42And how? What's to stop them from
- 26:44reaching their target? They're not move.
- 26:48You see, there's nothing you can do.
- 26:50Just stop it now. I mean, that's as cliched as it
- 26:53gets and normally I'd enjoy that, but I think, Oh no.
- 26:56Those Daleks are clearly walking there, aren't they?
- 26:59On that, they're a little bit little.
- 27:01Chambers are going, aren't they? And there we go.
- 27:03But look, how often do you see like, what's 6?
- 27:06Daleks, how often do you? See six on the screen?
- 27:09We've got a. Budget of millions and and.
- 27:11Layered like that. So you've got them in the in the
- 27:13background, you've got them in the foreground.
- 27:15Great shot. Yeah, no, I I always remember
- 27:19those shots because that's really, you have to stage that,
- 27:22right, right. You 3 up there, you 2 down there
- 27:25and then that one down the bottom coming past the camera.
- 27:28He. He.
- 27:29Fought for an extra day filming, didn't he?
- 27:31So they could, they could rehearse stuff like that.
- 27:33And and I think it does pay off. His location work is second to
- 27:38none here. It's fantastic.
- 27:42Oh, we came for the cupboard. Oh my.
- 27:43God. I'd never noticed that.
- 27:46I know I've watched this loads recently, but I don't think I'd
- 27:49noticed it until last night. That little wooden covered with
- 27:51the bombs in. So here I think maybe you need a
- 27:54bit. Oh no, they're clearly walking
- 27:56sharp. Maybe not so much that sort of.
- 27:58Cruelly swagger those Daleks are walking with there, you know, So
- 28:01when you're going to your next drug deal.
- 28:07Oh boy. OK oh so now it's going to be
- 28:13the altered Mevellan's plus the rebels against the Daleks.
- 28:18Keep an eye out for Fly Guy. Oh, look at this.
- 28:21Look at that shot of the quarry, of that muddy quarry.
- 28:27I mean, the cameras all around him, yeah.
- 28:29That's superb. Stuff this.
- 28:32Is great, isn't it? And then Romana coming in and
- 28:35she's literally. There in the reflection in his
- 28:38belt, right? And they this, that's so
- 28:41exciting. That shot of them is the fly.
- 28:43Man, I want to see him. Oh, has he been killed?
- 28:46Was that him? Just killed?
- 28:47There he is. There he is.
- 28:50Yes, physical. My eyes, how I thought they were
- 28:54goggles. Why are we?
- 28:56Not making more of this. There's like a, you know, I love
- 28:59I someone who grew up on Star Wars and that idea that is in,
- 29:03you know, the cantina and Star Wars with loads of different
- 29:06alien designs. The fact that you could and
- 29:08Doctor Who, they would throw in somebody like that.
- 29:10I just think it's brilliant. This is.
- 29:12Fantastic. Romana running down the ravine,
- 29:17This muddy scuffle. I mean, I mean, I love seeing a
- 29:21woman as well get in the action, you know?
- 29:24Yeah. Eating the shit out of it,
- 29:26moving his arm. Off.
- 29:27It's just, that's incredible. Romana Yeah.
- 29:30Jesus Christ, this arm's in the right state.
- 29:34And then I like the. Fact she sits down, cross legs
- 29:36right puts the bomb. Down in front of her.
- 29:39Oh, thank God, but that's beautifully.
- 29:41Shot and again like you're saying about arranging it like
- 29:43they've had to work out how far she can go and like where she
- 29:46stopped and so he's like striker still in in the foreground.
- 29:51All of that looks brilliant. There are.
- 29:52Problems to this, but people that say that this is tired,
- 29:56it's the execution of it isn't no.
- 30:00No. Oh.
- 30:00There we go, the darling. The Doctor.
- 30:03Pushes the darling like a Dodger now.
- 30:05Doesn't he's got the hat over his eye stalk.
- 30:11Shoot me. No way.
- 30:13Not me. You're 4 fishing in.
- 30:15Bed, fishing in bed, bye bye I can enjoy this.
- 30:19Watching it with you, I can enjoy the fun of this.
- 30:22Oh, come. On Paul, you don't want to be
- 30:24the person that doesn't enjoy this madness, no.
- 30:27No, ordinarily with ordinary, yeah, now it is.
- 30:31I mean imagine being a 5 year old watching this and then look
- 30:35it just all of his slats go. He pops his lips.
- 30:41Oh. My.
- 30:42Hats. My God.
- 30:44Yeah, Tom's. Stalking.
- 30:46Yeah, look. Tom is terrifying and keep away
- 30:49from me Doctor please don't hurt me.
- 30:53I watch this explosion that just.
- 30:57Leaving the frame behind. Oh.
- 31:01My God. Oh, I can't remember the last
- 31:06time I blew up quite that dramatically.
- 31:09I mean, you saw bits of those Daleks flying, right?
- 31:14He. Captures it, yeah.
- 31:15Coming down That's that's really cool.
- 31:17Oh, Paul, that was. Delirious, all of that.
- 31:19I'm sorry. But what a what a thrilling
- 31:22climax, you know? What more do you want when
- 31:24you're a kid? Just just just excitement
- 31:26personified. Well, I quite like a thrilling.
- 31:28Climax as an adult as well sounds.
- 31:31To be a fine thing, I mean. I mean, come on, Did you see the
- 31:34climax of war between the land and the sea?
- 31:36This is much more exciting than that.
- 31:38Yeah. Yeah, Oh, oh God, yeah.
- 31:40I've watched it this morning. I didn't see it last night, but
- 31:42I watched it this morning and I really hate one of the one.
- 31:47The thing I hear about the modern world is when they do
- 31:53like a really slow cover version of a famous song.
- 31:56So that's what we ended that on, didn't we?
- 31:58We go like, fuck, awful version of the heroes.
- 32:01And it's just like, oh God, really?
- 32:04I mean, I was. Out basically when he started
- 32:07having it off with that fishwoman and started going over
- 32:10you taste like salt, I was like I.
- 32:13Didn't. I don't think I bought that
- 32:14relationship at all. I think I get it.
- 32:17Russell's. Hovey having it off of a
- 32:19fishwoman. I mean how are we ever supposed
- 32:21to buy that? Come on now, I'd much rather
- 32:24watch Daleks pack full of petrol blowing up in a grind.
- 32:28Yeah, yeah, whilst fly eyed extras I'll be massacred around
- 32:35the spaceship. I mean come on.
- 32:38I mean when you was a nipper, no wonder you was obsessed.
- 32:42This. Exactly.
- 32:43I mean, what a great story. It's your first Dalek story.
- 32:46I'm just just really exciting the.
- 32:49Spaceship right that buried itself alive is now coming out
- 32:53of ground. We get that model.
- 32:55Shot again. Oh.
- 32:56Boy, oh boy. I mean, I had fun with you doing
- 32:58carnival and monsters, man, but I don't think I laughed more
- 33:00than I did during that time. Being blinded to your left ball
- 33:06to your right. Be your fool.
- 33:09This way. Oh gosh.
- 33:13There's only one way we can end this later, you know?
- 33:16Bye. Bye.
- 33:21And a lot of times, obviously he's got to the point where he
- 33:23has been somber this whole story, but now he's just
- 33:25flinging rocks around like he's he's, I mean.
- 33:28They do look like rocks. I mean they don't.
- 33:30They bounce like polystyrene. I don't think they look.
- 33:35Like the quarry? Yeah, as a kid I was 100%
- 33:39fooled. I think it looks looks
- 33:41brilliant. Oh, we forgot.
- 33:43Another Terra Nation cliche being trapped away from the
- 33:45TARDIS? Or did we mention that in
- 33:47episode 1? I think I might.
- 33:48Maybe, I can't remember, but no, you're right, it is a nation
- 33:52trope, isn't it? They've been blocked off from
- 33:54the TARDIS, yeah. Oh, look at this Tom Lala,
- 33:58radiant into the TARDIS. Off for more jolly adventures,
- 34:02right? And where are we going next?
- 34:04City of Death. What a great way to start the
- 34:07season. My God.
- 34:08Amazing. Oh, shall.
- 34:10We take the lift or fly. Let's not be authentic.
- 34:15So as I mentioned, the destiny repeats in the summer babies
- 34:18city of death was repeated that summer of 1980 as well.
- 34:22And and so the two of them back-to-back a year after I'd
- 34:26seen it the first time. And I think it was the, I think
- 34:28it was the first time I remember as a kid going, Oh, I remember
- 34:31this one is where he rips his face off and he's all green and
- 34:33squiggly underneath. And it's that.
- 34:35Oh, yeah, yeah. I really, this is brilliant.
- 34:36I remember enjoying it before. So yeah, we're the first kind of
- 34:41experiences or a member of seeing something again and
- 34:44remember like being old enough to, to just being of that age
- 34:48where you could remember stuff. You know, when you're really
- 34:49young, you kind of don't remember anything at all but
- 34:53your first? First, sort of potent images of
- 34:56doctors. It's a common problem, you know,
- 34:58Paul, you, you think men are suave, debonair millionaires,
- 35:02and it turns out they're green and squiggly underneath.
- 35:05I mean. Exactly.
- 35:06Yeah. I can't tell you the number of
- 35:08times I've been fooled by Do You know?
- 35:11I think there is an argument, though, you know, that we've
- 35:15just proved it. We're Destiny of the Daleks,
- 35:17because I think we both came into this assuming we were going
- 35:21to be a bit more critical than we ended up being.
- 35:24There's an argument that suggests that watching Doctor
- 35:29Who with a friend can be more enjoyable sometimes than
- 35:34watching it on your own. Yeah. 100% think that is, that's
- 35:38what it is. You know, we're not.
- 35:41I've been thinking back over my kind of journey as as a kid and
- 35:45I think I was at this age from from this point onwards, from 79
- 35:49onwards, I was really super into it until until the 10th
- 35:54anniversary till 1983. I'm like really, that was
- 35:57probably the peak. But then almost immediately I
- 36:00start to drop off a little bit like from from season 21
- 36:03onwards. And I think it's because I've
- 36:05been given a small black and white telly.
- 36:08And so that TV was in my room and so suddenly I had control
- 36:10over what I could watch and when I was watching and I wasn't
- 36:13watching with the family anymore.
- 36:15And I think that did start to start getting.
- 36:18Critical. Then no, not.
- 36:20Critical, but just just kind of like, I don't know, we just put
- 36:22like a little wedge between me and who for a little while.
- 36:27So yeah, watching stuff by yourself, you're right.
- 36:31I mean, that's how most of us consumed.
- 36:32Like most fans would would watch who.
- 36:35We talked earlier about how much more my wife does or does not
- 36:39kind of partake in who. So you do end up watching it by
- 36:44yourself quite a bit. But it's definitely have a lot
- 36:46more enjoyable with other people, I think, I think.
- 36:49When you're on your own, the embarrassing bits, you're just
- 36:53like watching through your fingers going, oh God, no, I'll
- 36:55walk into the room. Now when you're watching with
- 36:58somebody who's sympathetic to Doctor Who, you can just roar
- 37:04with laughter at those stupid moments and just have fun with
- 37:08it. Yeah, man, I'm glad we're not
- 37:12tedious teenagers anymore. 100 percent, 100% Well, look now.
- 37:18We've got a great task ahead of us now to choose our free
- 37:21fabulous Things to Recommend Destiny Daleks.
- 37:24I mean, we've got about 500 out of this commentary, but would
- 37:28you care to go first? Well, I, I, I will, because I'm
- 37:32going to get in there. Probably the most obvious choice
- 37:34and the thing we talked about a hell of a lot, and that is Ken
- 37:36Grief. Ken Grief, yes.
- 37:38Buddy Yeah, the direction is brilliant.
- 37:43I don't think he's talked about enough.
- 37:45I don't think he's talked about in, you know, those kind of
- 37:49circles of those the great Who directors, you know, you, the
- 37:52Harpers and the Cam fields. He's not often put in that
- 37:56bracket, and maybe because he's only done the one and he isn't
- 38:01always necessarily a highly thought of story, but it is
- 38:06stylish as hell. I really want to compliment for
- 38:10my first thing, the structure of the script.
- 38:14I think on this particular watch, while we've been talking
- 38:17it through, I've realized that just how well done it is.
- 38:22The first episode, the scene setter, The second episode, the
- 38:26mystery. What are the Daleks searching
- 38:28for? The third episode, all the drama
- 38:31of the standoff between the Doctor and the Daleks, and then
- 38:34the last episode, where all the concept is explored, all leading
- 38:38up to a massive action set piece at the end of the story.
- 38:42It's Douglas Adams's first as script editor, and I think he's
- 38:46got a good idea of how to tell a Rick roaring Doctor Who story.
- 38:52Yeah, and. And.
- 38:53Fitted around the standard nation script as well, I think
- 38:57it's a. Better fusion than people say.
- 38:59Yeah, yeah. Yeah, I think the fact that I'd
- 39:02never really kind of tweaked that, it is a lot of the
- 39:05standard nation tropes I'd put down to what you're saying.
- 39:10And yeah, the structure that that, you know, has been put in
- 39:15place, I think I think it does work really well to tell that
- 39:19familiar Dalek story, but tell it in a very different way.
- 39:23Awesome #2 I am going to go for the design and I've went for the
- 39:34design previously on Carnival. It is something that I enjoy
- 39:38about TV anyway, not just Doctor Who, but TV generally is
- 39:42something I look at. We talked about the a bit about
- 39:45the sort of props and the origin of the props and stuff.
- 39:48But I genuinely think that the corridors of Scarrow works so
- 39:54much better than 90% of corridors and Doctor Who
- 39:57because, because they're filled with so much stuff and so and so
- 40:02higgledy piggledy is very hard to get the sense of that, that
- 40:05geography sense of where this goes to.
- 40:08And this is, I think I said at the time, it feels like they are
- 40:12making progress through the Dalek city.
- 40:15And I think I saw yeah, I and for a show which an episode
- 40:19which is not lauded for that stuff because it's looked at as
- 40:23being cheap and tatty and Daleks looking tatty, I think works
- 40:26really well. It's.
- 40:27Hard to get a sense of movement, like when you're using the same
- 40:33sets and you're trying to suggest you're going up or down.
- 40:36It is hard to get that without making it feel like, oh, OK,
- 40:39we're just going up and down the same corridor.
- 40:42Yeah, right. It is.
- 40:43It is well, well put across here.
- 40:46I want to compliment the use is well, both the use of special
- 40:49sound and Dudley Simpson's being magnanimous enough to step back
- 40:56and not paper over a lot of the atmosphere with music.
- 41:00Because I think whilst I think his latter day scores are
- 41:02perfectly fine, there is a tangible atmosphere to that
- 41:07first episode not having any music in it and all the talk of
- 41:11the zombies. And that's that they've got like
- 41:14that wind effect that they do on alien planets that they're using
- 41:17there and all the sound of masonry falling, stuff like
- 41:22that. When you go down into the into
- 41:24the dark, you've got the heartbeat.
- 41:25But then when you go down into the corridors, underneath,
- 41:28there's that weird noise, that weird alien sound that's sort of
- 41:31echoing off all the corridors. There's a real sense of
- 41:35environment created with the special sounds.
- 41:38I always think it's something that people don't talk about
- 41:40enough in Doctor Who, but it's particularly vivid in this
- 41:44story, I think. Yeah, I think.
- 41:46You're 100% right. It's especially effective
- 41:48because of the lack of music. And, you know, it creates so
- 41:52much of that atmosphere all the way through the story.
- 41:54But especially, I think Part 1. Yeah, brilliant.
- 41:58And Dudley gets CE of deaf, doesn't he?
- 42:00Anyway, so like he's he's kind of plenty of music for the
- 42:03following week. So he's all good.
- 42:06Yeah, 100% number three for me. I'm going to give it to Tom
- 42:11because, you know, this is my introduction to Doctor Who.
- 42:15In many ways. He was the first doctor I saw as
- 42:18a kid. I would.
- 42:20I think that I don't really think of him as my doctor.
- 42:22I tend to think of Davidson being a little bit later as as
- 42:25my one, but but he's great here and he is so measured.
- 42:30Like what we said, you know, like obviously season 17 all the
- 42:35way through the Williams era, you get that idea of him being
- 42:38just kind of out of control, just being kind of a loose
- 42:40cannon and just kind of being overly wacky.
- 42:43Definitely have a look at that trailer for a bit of a kind of
- 42:47Williams era Tom wackiness, which I think is fantastic.
- 42:51But he's he's under playing it here all the way through and
- 42:54like the humor is still there in the big beginning.
- 42:57You've got like lines like you've got the making sort of
- 42:59first class Navy and stuff like that.
- 43:02But then like as you as you said, like you, I hadn't tweaked
- 43:05just how demented he was in that final scene, like in in part 4
- 43:10where he's confronting Davros. You're right.
- 43:12He's like really mad demonic. Grin on his face.
- 43:22Yeah, he's very good in this story.
- 43:24Well. OK, like I want to say episode
- 43:294, I think I just think episode 4 is great and but in particular
- 43:35I really want to point out the rock, paper, scissors just that
- 43:39way. The I like I'm saying it's
- 43:43Douglas and not Terry. It maybe it's Terry, whoever it
- 43:46is, the idea of getting across a very complex idea to children is
- 43:55such a simple, such a playful way.
- 43:58It's just genius. It's the sort of thing I think
- 44:00the new series forgets quite a bit.
- 44:04And just for that messy, muddy action sequence where Romana
- 44:10kicks off that Mavellan's arm, I just love episode 4.
- 44:14I think it's great. And then that whole bit with the
- 44:16Dalek exploding with the hat on his eyes stalk.
- 44:20I mean, it's just mad Episode 4, but just great fun.
- 44:25Yeah. Really underrated.
- 44:27I think this. Yeah.
- 44:29Of course you can point and laugh at it and say it's slow
- 44:32paced and the Daleks look tatty and all of that, but there's
- 44:36some riches there, I think. Yeah, yeah, 100% yeah.
- 44:41And I do think actually there are, like I said before, how
- 44:44many people that speak to me on on Instagram talk about it.
- 44:49I do think actually there is a lot of love for destiny out
- 44:52there. And I do think hopefully you'll
- 44:55see that reflected in in your podcast figures, Joe, as people
- 44:58will take to like they did for Carnival so many.
- 45:01People have told me this is this was their in destiny.
- 45:05Yeah, yeah. Yeah, no, that's been my
- 45:07experience as well that that whenever I post about, you know,
- 45:12a picture from Destiny, it will get a lot of comments because,
- 45:15yeah, it was people's first. Can you hear that?
- 45:19Is that my stomach rumbling? I can't hear.
- 45:23I think it's coming from outside.
- 45:24It sounds rather like a a Tyrannosaurus Rex, but I'm not
- 45:29sure. Oh.
- 45:31Oh no. Oh, I'll tell you what, you
- 45:33remember us talking earlier on about us going off in a
- 45:36spaceship with your wife, possibly to the second Golden
- 45:40age. I fear there may be an invasion
- 45:42of dinosaurs occurring in London.
- 45:45Yeah, indeed. Well I've got my map here
- 45:48marking where I've I've seen the Dinos and they've got pink for
- 45:51your actual tyranny. Yes, I believe that is the case.
- 45:57Yes. Well, how about it?
- 45:59Do you fancy heading to Operation Golden Age with John
- 46:03Patui, Elizabeth Slayden, Nicholas Courtney, John Levine?
- 46:07I mean the riches, we could find it there.
- 46:09Exactly. Let's hop in the home mobile and
- 46:11do it right now. The home.
- 46:13Mobile. Fucking hell, I forgot about
- 46:14that. Oh boy.
- 46:16Well, look. OK.
- 46:17Are you down for this now? You've done A1 parter?
- 46:20Yeah, 24 parters. This will be your first six
- 46:23parter. Yes, hopefully I will find.
- 46:27Yeah, yeah, I'm sure. Like we seem to go off in a lot
- 46:30of tangents, Joe, and talk a lot of shite.
- 46:32So if you keep throwing, if you keep throwing it at me, I will
- 46:39try. I'm going to take improv classes
- 46:42over Christmas and yeah, absolutely we can do that.
- 46:45Oh, sure, I'll. Arrange that as a present for
- 46:47you. Improvisation classes throwing
- 46:49shit at you? What are you talking about?
- 46:51Well. I mean, you know, verbally,
- 46:52verbally, Joe. Yes, well, so I'll find a first
- 46:58six parter invasion of the dinosaurs part.
- 47:00Before we go, of course, please can we just give one last little
- 47:04plug to the socials? Indeed, yeah.
- 47:08So if you do want to take a look, so Instagram, that's where
- 47:12it started for me, is Doctor Who, sixties, 70s and 80s.
- 47:16I think I said before it's a terrible name, but I've had it's
- 47:20the one I remember. All the time.
- 47:22I actually use easy on Instagram.
- 47:24I remember the Sixties, 70s and 80s every time.
- 47:28Yeah, I don't know, I just didn't think of anything more
- 47:30exciting. So I think when I started
- 47:33Instagram, the the reason I started here, I've talked about
- 47:36this before. I can't remember if I'm
- 47:38repeating myself, apologies, but I started because but there
- 47:43didn't seem to be any kind of classic hue on Instagram.
- 47:44It was all kind of younger kids posting, you know, David Tennant
- 47:48memes and stuff. So and I felt there was so much
- 47:51good for top photography to do with Doctor, all the classic
- 47:55images, but also lots of kind of weird images as well.
- 47:58And things like that trailer, the the season 17 trailer.
- 48:02I've posted that two or three times because it's such a
- 48:05brilliant little bit of video. So I started for for those
- 48:09reasons and I couldn't think of a better name so it just kind of
- 48:12suck. Heavenly.
- 48:14That account, although I warn you people, if you are going to
- 48:17go exploring, I mean you might get stuck in going through all
- 48:22of these bloody posts. Yeah, I don't post as much as I
- 48:26used to, but I'll keep it down. But yeah, I still try and post
- 48:29every week. And then spinning out of that
- 48:32is, is the blog which has to do with props, which is Doctor Who
- 48:36Prop Hunt, which you can find on yeah, just kind of Google it.
- 48:42So yeah. So that's kind of like a weekly
- 48:44blog about the the props of Doctor Who and where you might
- 48:47find them, like the stuff like the stuff from UFO in Destiny
- 48:51if. You are a true geek of Doctor
- 48:54Who and let's be honest, you're listening to this.
- 48:56You are the minutiae and detail of the props of Doctor Who.
- 49:03I mean, that bloody sofa, man. What's going about the sofa?
- 49:08No, I mean, it isn't just a sofa though, is it?
- 49:11It's fabulous. It's all the computer banks.
- 49:13Yeah, yeah. Yeah, absolutely.
- 49:16So there's I mean, you Destiny use quite a lot a lot of the
- 49:19clothes we talked about. So yeah, there's, I mean, I look
- 49:22a lot of computer panels those. Triangular walls, yeah.
- 49:27Yeah, the hexagon walls from the Muslims.
- 49:28Yeah, absolutely. Yeah, So yeah, that's that's
- 49:31kind of taken up much of the last year I've kind of been
- 49:33doing there. And the other thing for me last
- 49:37time for the carnival, you might have seen that the drawing I did
- 49:39for Joe. So I've got a little art account
- 49:42on Instagram, which is Paul's Doodles, where it's mostly
- 49:46mostly Doctor Who related scribbles from me.
- 49:50And so that's kind of where I'm at.
- 49:51Oh, OK, it's. Delicious as well.
- 49:53I mean, I was going to try and twist your arm, you know, to do
- 49:56an artwork for this one or something.
- 49:57Like you and me with our legs coming out of two Daleks on a
- 50:01sand dune or something with a load of bombs strapped around or
- 50:04something like that. Well, anyway, I mean, you don't
- 50:08have to do that, but it's just an idea, OK, No.
- 50:12And now people don't pretend you're above this sort of thing.
- 50:14All right? Doctor Who props.
- 50:15We know you love this stuff. All right?
- 50:17Check it out. Yeah.
- 50:19Well, every time I post something on the blog, people
- 50:22will chime in because that's what's been really helpful is
- 50:24the fact that there's so many people are like, Oh yeah, I've
- 50:27seen that. And in this or I've seen.
- 50:28And because there's plenty of shows that I'm not super
- 50:31familiar with, familiar with, like I'm not the world's biggest
- 50:34Blake 7 fan. And there's a lot of crossover,
- 50:37particularly for a story like Destiny, there's a lot of
- 50:39chronic crossover from that period.
- 50:42And so and anybody you can help me out with Blake 7 stuff, I'm
- 50:45always, always really happy because yeah, that's every.
- 50:48Other person listen to this right well.
- 50:50I kind of, yeah, yeah. I don't know what it is, but it
- 50:53doesn't appeal to me. I find it quite hard to see it
- 50:55through. So.
- 50:57So yeah, yeah. Well, like.
- 50:58It's very slow. You think Destiny of Daleks is
- 51:01slow? Jesus Christ.
- 51:03Yeah, yeah. Yeah, I I get like about 4
- 51:05episodes into the first series and then I'm kind of with the.
- 51:08Ugliest power stations and quarries you've ever seen.
- 51:13Paul, thank you very much for your continued association with
- 51:18this. It's just heaven every time I
- 51:20talk to you, you know? Thank you.
- 51:22Thank you for having me back again.
- 51:24I'm glad we were able to do it. So yeah, honestly, Joe, more
- 51:28than Abby to to come on and and do whatever you want me to do.
- 51:32So yeah, absolutely. So to.
- 51:34Speak until we wrestle with rubber dinosaurs.
- 51:38Oh, it's the last one before Christmas.
- 51:40And incidentally, a Merry Christmas to all of you at home.
- 51:47Oh, we've got it there.
