Transcript
- 0:10Speaker 1: Hey, we welcome you to another edition of Birds Weekly,
- 0:13Speaker 1: presented by the Inside the Birds Network. For Ray Dettinger,
- 0:16Speaker 1: I'm Derek Gunn. It is Cowboys Week, and we know
- 0:20Speaker 1: how much in this region we hate those Dallas Cowboys,
- 0:23Speaker 1: and we beat them in the season opener and can't
- 0:25Speaker 1: wait to pound them on their own turf come Sunday
- 0:28Speaker 1: at four twenty five. I believe it is Eastern Standard time.
- 0:32Speaker 1: And Raymond, I can't figure this Cowboys team out. They're
- 0:35Speaker 1: the halves and the have nots. They have an offense
- 0:38Speaker 1: that's ranked third in the league and they can light
- 0:41Speaker 1: it up with anybody when that offense is clicking, But
- 0:44Speaker 1: they have not done much of anything on defense. They're
- 0:46Speaker 1: thirtieth in the league of defense. They're very generous against
- 0:50Speaker 1: the run, very generous in points, very generous in the yards.
- 0:53Speaker 1: I don't understand how a team can be so good
- 0:57Speaker 1: on one side of the ball yet on another side
- 1:00Speaker 1: of the ball. But thank you Jerry Jones for putting
- 1:02Speaker 1: together another mediocre team.
- 1:06Speaker 2: Sure did? I mean? It really is? It really is
- 1:09Speaker 2: a team of two faces. It's like the the masks
- 1:14Speaker 2: of theater, you know, the smiling mask of the crowning mask. Yeah,
- 1:18Speaker 2: it's kind of what their football team looks like. I mean,
- 1:20Speaker 2: they're you're right. I mean, when they're on offense, they
- 1:24Speaker 2: can move the ball and score on anybody, especially at home.
- 1:27Speaker 2: I mean they have been they have been lethal at home.
- 1:30Speaker 2: And Dak Prescott's having a terrific year. People saw him
- 1:35Speaker 2: probably on Monday night lighting up the Raiders, what one
- 1:40Speaker 2: thirty eight point six quarterback rating in that game, four touchdowns.
- 1:46Speaker 2: I mean, the team he's he's really having one of
- 1:49Speaker 2: his best years. But you wouldn't know it because of
- 1:52Speaker 2: the fact that they're not winning a whole lot of games.
- 1:54Speaker 2: It's not his fault, that's a defense. And it would
- 1:58Speaker 2: be too simple to just say, well, you know, it's
- 2:01Speaker 2: all about trading Michael Parsons. You know, they traded Michael
- 2:04Speaker 2: Parsons and no, the problems go way beyond that. Now,
- 2:07Speaker 2: if they had him, the probably be better. But Derek,
- 2:10Speaker 2: when you watch the film, man, they're bad on every level,
- 2:13Speaker 2: they really are. So you know, we've talked so much
- 2:17Speaker 2: about the Eagles offense this year and how they sputter
- 2:20Speaker 2: and they're three and out and they can't sustain drives
- 2:23Speaker 2: and they can't make big plays. And blah blah blah. Well,
- 2:26Speaker 2: if they can't move the ball and score against this team,
- 2:29Speaker 2: I think we really need to start worrying.
- 2:32Speaker 3: You know.
- 2:33Speaker 1: And Ray, I look at their defensive personnel. They've got
- 2:36Speaker 1: players Kenneth Murray, Deron Blind, Donovan Wilson, Malik Hooker to
- 2:41Speaker 1: Davian Clowney, Trayvon Diggs. Now he was hurt, Kenny Clark.
- 2:44Speaker 1: They got in the trade with green Bank before the
- 2:48Speaker 1: trade deadline. They added to Quinyon Williams Dante Fowler, so
- 2:52Speaker 1: they have the personnel. And for the life of me,
- 2:56Speaker 1: I can't understand why he has not clicked. You would
- 2:59Speaker 1: think at some point it would click in the season.
- 3:02Speaker 2: But it has.
- 3:03Speaker 1: Now that they beat up on teams like they beat
- 3:05Speaker 1: the Giants, they beat the Jets, they beat Washington and
- 3:07Speaker 1: then on Monday night they beat the Raiders, and of
- 3:09Speaker 1: course they tied the Packers, but they can't seem to
- 3:12Speaker 1: beat any quality football teams. And for the life of me,
- 3:16Speaker 1: with a bunch of names that I just mentioned that oh,
- 3:18Speaker 1: by the way, they're healthy for this game, that they
- 3:21Speaker 1: can't put it all together and become more of a
- 3:24Speaker 1: defensive cornerstone than they have.
- 3:26Speaker 4: Been Hey, it's Jeff Mosher. And if you have a
- 3:29Speaker 4: family and kids at home, like me, you always want
- 3:31Speaker 4: them to be fully protected. That's why I'm thrilled to

- 3:37Speaker 4: with the most technologically advanced alarm system you can get.
- 3:40Speaker 4: If you could actually stop someone from breaking into your

- 4:01Speaker 4: security agents. These agents take action while the intruder is
- 4:05Speaker 4: still outside and confront the intruder to let them know
- 4:08Speaker 4: they're being watched on camera and police is on the way.
- 4:11Speaker 4: And that's how you stop a crime before it's committed.

- 4:26Speaker 4: the year, sixty percent off. Our listeners get sixty percent

- 4:35Speaker 4: com slash bird. That's simplysafe dot com slash bird.
- 4:39Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean, even if they were just decent. Yeah, well,
- 4:43Speaker 2: even if they were just decent on that side of
- 4:45Speaker 2: the ball, they'd be winning some games because their offense.
- 4:48Speaker 2: Their offense is really dangerous. I mean, you know, Cedee
- 4:51Speaker 2: Lamb has had his injury issues, so you know, he
- 4:53Speaker 2: has not put up the kinds of numbers this year
- 4:55Speaker 2: we've seen him put up in the past. But Pickens
- 4:59Speaker 2: has come over and he has been really good. I mean,
- 5:03Speaker 2: you know, he had a real big game against the Raiders.
- 5:04Speaker 2: He had nine catches, one hundred and forty yards a touchdown.
- 5:07Speaker 2: But he's been playing like that really all year. And
- 5:12Speaker 2: you know, there's never been any question about his ability.
- 5:16Speaker 2: I mean, even in Pittsburgh, everybody knew he was a
- 5:18Speaker 2: guy that was talent wise an elite receiver in this league.
- 5:23Speaker 2: But at issues, at issues with management, at issues with
- 5:27Speaker 2: the coaches, effort wasn't always consistent. And so he leaves
- 5:31Speaker 2: Pittsburgh and comes to Dallas, change of scenery, and he's
- 5:34Speaker 2: been very good this year. And their offense and Javon
- 5:39Speaker 2: Williams is averaging over five yards to carry, so offensively,
- 5:43Speaker 2: they're getting it done, but the defense just can't stop anybody.
- 5:47Speaker 2: I was looking at the league's defensive breakdown statistical rankings.
- 5:52Speaker 2: If you go through the eleven most what I would
- 5:58Speaker 2: consider the most relevant stats. There's a million stats, but
- 6:01Speaker 2: the eleven, the eleven top ones that really tell you
- 6:05Speaker 2: whether defense is an he could or not, Derek, they
- 6:08Speaker 2: ranked twenty first or lower in every one of them,
- 6:12Speaker 2: so there's really no aspect of their defense it's functioning well.
- 6:15Speaker 2: I mean, they're just they are just a hot mess
- 6:18Speaker 2: over there. And you know, for an Eagles team that's
- 6:21Speaker 2: been having trouble generating much offense, well this might be
- 6:25Speaker 2: get well week.
- 6:27Speaker 1: You know, we've said that before. I know, I know
- 6:32Speaker 1: it doesn't pan out, except maybe against the Giants, but
- 6:35Speaker 1: it hasn't panned out for the most part. But you're right, Ray,
- 6:38Speaker 1: even though it is down in Dallas. You know, this
- 6:40Speaker 1: is the game where the passing games should be fluid,
- 6:43Speaker 1: the running games should surpass two hundred yards easily. But
- 6:47Speaker 1: this is Eagles and Cowboys. And you know, funny things
- 6:51Speaker 1: happened when these two teams seem to get together. Now,
- 6:54Speaker 1: you've covered this particular rivalry for a long time, and
- 6:58Speaker 1: in the time that I've covered since nineth teen ninety seven.
- 7:01Speaker 1: The one thing that has always fascinated me about this
- 7:04Speaker 1: rivalry is that Eagles fans take this rivalry more seriously
- 7:09Speaker 1: than the Dallas Cowboys do. I've read stories and I've
- 7:13Speaker 1: actually interviewed people when I covered the team and traveled
- 7:16Speaker 1: with the Eagles in Dallas, and the majority would say
- 7:21Speaker 1: their biggest rivals are either the Giants or the Commanders.
- 7:25Speaker 1: And it just blows me away that the Cowboy fans
- 7:28Speaker 1: don't perceive this as big of a rivalry as the
- 7:31Speaker 1: Eagles do. Other than the fact that the Eagles right
- 7:33Speaker 1: now control of the division and the fact that they
- 7:36Speaker 1: are the defending Super Bowl champs.
- 7:38Speaker 2: Right, I think that's very accurate. There was particularly noticeable.
- 7:45Speaker 3: In the eighties in the nineties, Yeah, when you had
- 7:51Speaker 3: the when it really and when it really started to
- 7:53Speaker 3: heat up with the Buddy Ryan, you know, the Buddy
- 7:56Speaker 3: Ryan versus Jimmy Johnson phase of things.
- 8:00Speaker 2: But I think it was it was pretty easy to
- 8:02Speaker 2: understand why back then, because the people in Philadelphia, they
- 8:07Speaker 2: looked at the Cowboys as the Darth Vader team, you
- 8:10Speaker 2: know they. I mean, you can look at that from
- 8:13Speaker 2: when the series for the starting in the seventies, starting
- 8:18Speaker 2: actually in the middle sixties and running through most of
- 8:21Speaker 2: the seventies. You went back over that. I'm pretty sure
- 8:25Speaker 2: about these numbers. Twenty three times those teams played in
- 8:29Speaker 2: those years. Twenty three times.
- 8:30Speaker 4: Hey, Philly fans, game day is stressful enough. Parking, traffic,
- 8:34Speaker 4: long lines, We've all been there, But when it comes
- 8:37Speaker 4: to your cannabis, Camden Apothecary makes it easy. This is
- 8:42Speaker 4: the dispensary for sports fans, just minutes outside of Philly,
- 8:46Speaker 4: with plenty of free parking. You'll be in and out fast,
- 8:49Speaker 4: no hassle, no waiting, and they don't just care about convenience.
- 8:53Speaker 4: Camden Apothecary is all about the guest experience. Their staff
- 8:57Speaker 4: makes sure you feel taken care of every time you
- 9:01Speaker 4: walk in. Plus, they carry only the best quality cannabis
- 9:04Speaker 4: at the fairest prices, so whether you're stocking up for
- 9:08Speaker 4: the tailgate, the watch party, or celebrating a big win,
- 9:11Speaker 4: you know you're getting the good stuff without overpaying. They
- 9:15Speaker 4: even show love to the community with specials for fans, students,
- 9:20Speaker 4: service members and healthcare pros. Canned in apothecary, top quality cannabis,
- 9:25Speaker 4: great prices, and an experience made for Philly fans. Twenty
- 9:28Speaker 4: one and up.
- 9:30Speaker 2: The Cowboys won twenty one of the twenty three times.
- 9:34Speaker 2: But this was around a time when the Cowboys had
- 9:37Speaker 2: a really hot rivalry going with Washington, you know, so
- 9:41Speaker 2: the Dallas fans looked at the then Redskins as that's
- 9:45Speaker 2: our team, that's our rival, those are the guys we
- 9:49Speaker 2: have to beat. That's where the real animosity was, you know,
- 9:52Speaker 2: that's where the real blood boiling kind of thing was
- 9:54Speaker 2: there Dallas Washington in those years, Landry versus George Allen,
- 9:59Speaker 2: that whole thing. The Dallas fans couldn't get excited about
- 10:03Speaker 2: an Eagles team that they were just slapping around twice
- 10:06Speaker 2: a year for a decade, so that you didn't have
- 10:10Speaker 2: much history, you didn't have much juice in it. Then
- 10:13Speaker 2: I think you're kind of getting it now because the
- 10:15Speaker 2: Eagles have been the Eagles have now become the team
- 10:19Speaker 2: in this division, and they have been for a while.
- 10:22Speaker 2: So now you're starting to get a little bit of
- 10:25Speaker 2: a little bit of edge built up in Dallas towards
- 10:28Speaker 2: the Eagles. But for the Eagles fans, here of a
- 10:31Speaker 2: certain generation that grew up during those that two and
- 10:36Speaker 2: twenty one stretch, and you know, it'll all the bad guys,
- 10:40Speaker 2: the black hat guys will always be the Cowboys. Whenever
- 10:43Speaker 2: the Cowboys are good or bad any given year, there's
- 10:46Speaker 2: still the Cowboys. And I think that feeling still exists.
- 10:49Speaker 2: And nothing makes an Eagle fan happier than a win
- 10:53Speaker 2: over the Cowboys, and nothing makes them happier than a decisive,
- 10:56Speaker 2: one sided win over the Cowboys. And I think that's
- 10:59Speaker 2: what everybody's hoping to see you at Sunday.
- 11:02Speaker 1: You have had a long, illustrious career, my friend, covering
- 11:05Speaker 1: not just the NFL, but this particular rivalry. Is there
- 11:09Speaker 1: one game in this rivalry more than others that stands
- 11:12Speaker 1: out to you? And it will always stand out to you.
- 11:15Speaker 4: Hey, I still like a good night out, but I'm

- 12:45Speaker 2: Yeah, that's easy. The nineteen eighty eighty one Yeah, the
- 12:50Speaker 2: nineteen eighty eighty one championship game. Okay, no, when it
- 12:53Speaker 2: all came the NFC Championship Game, the game to go
- 12:56Speaker 2: to the Super Bowl. Cowboys come into the come into
- 13:00Speaker 2: the Vet, play the Eagles on a day when it's
- 13:02Speaker 2: below zero. The Eagles do the jersey switcheroo where the
- 13:07Speaker 2: Eagles wear white, and they forced the Cowboys to wear
- 13:09Speaker 2: they're blue, which back then not so much now, but
- 13:12Speaker 2: back then the Cowboy people viewed the blue jerseys as
- 13:15Speaker 2: bad luck the Eagles because they were the home team.
- 13:18Speaker 2: They said, we're going to take white, made the Cowboys
- 13:21Speaker 2: wear the blue. And that was the game. The Eagles
- 13:24Speaker 2: went out and beat them twenty to seven, and it
- 13:26Speaker 2: was no, the score was not indicative of how one
- 13:30Speaker 2: sided it was. I mean the Eagles. That was the game.
- 13:32Speaker 2: Wilbert Montgomery second played from scrimmage boom, you know, takes it,
- 13:36Speaker 2: takes it to the house, and it was the Eagles day.
- 13:40Speaker 2: And you know, the party just went on in Philadelphia
- 13:43Speaker 2: all that week and sent the Eagles to the Super
- 13:46Speaker 2: Bowl and for the first time, and they lost the
- 13:49Speaker 2: Super Bowl, and I really think looking back on it,
- 13:52Speaker 2: and some of the players now with the benefit of
- 13:55Speaker 2: time in hindsight, look back and say, you know, I
- 13:59Speaker 2: really think we played Super Bowl against the Cowboys. You know,
- 14:02Speaker 2: we had built everything up, this whole rivalry thing, the Cowboys,
- 14:05Speaker 2: the Cowboys, the Cowboys. They're coming into our stadium. The
- 14:08Speaker 2: fans were fired up. That was our super Bowl.
- 14:12Speaker 1: You know.
- 14:12Speaker 2: I think they played their Super Bowl that day against
- 14:15Speaker 2: the Cowboys, And when they went down to New Orleans
- 14:17Speaker 2: to play the Raiders, they just couldn't summon up the
- 14:20Speaker 2: same kind of emotion. And you know, they went down
- 14:23Speaker 2: there and they played probably their poorest game of the season.
- 14:26Speaker 2: But I think they filed their super Bowl here against
- 14:28Speaker 2: the Cowboys. That's the one I remember.
- 14:31Speaker 1: You know, when you look at Dek Prescott is having
- 14:35Speaker 1: an outstanding year this year. He's completing seventy percent of
- 14:38Speaker 1: his passes over twenty five hundred yards and twenty one touchdowns.
- 14:42Speaker 1: And for whatever reason, as we've watched his career evolve,
- 14:47Speaker 1: there's something about Deck when he plays the Eagles. I
- 14:49Speaker 1: don't care if it's here or there. He's always been
- 14:52Speaker 1: a thought in the Eagle side you know, he seems
- 14:56Speaker 1: to be crisper in the passing, the pocket department, more
- 15:00Speaker 1: accurate in terms of side stepping, pressure, things of this nature.
- 15:05Speaker 1: I think it's one of the more uncanny scenarios when
- 15:09Speaker 1: you watch a matchup in Pro football that this guy
- 15:13Speaker 1: plays like a Hall of Famer every time he comes
- 15:16Speaker 1: up against the Philadelphia Eagles.
- 15:18Speaker 2: He plays well against them. You're right, he really does.
- 15:21Speaker 2: And that's been true throughout most of his career. The
- 15:25Speaker 2: success when the Eagles have had success against the Cowboys
- 15:28Speaker 2: and have had some a lot of times it's been
- 15:30Speaker 2: against the backups. You know what that couldn't play the
- 15:33Speaker 2: Cooper Russia's the Ben Denucci remember him? Oh yes, I
- 15:38Speaker 2: mean some of the you know, some of these backup
- 15:40Speaker 2: quarterbacks that the Cowboys have played. Yeah, the Eagles have
- 15:42Speaker 2: had really good success against them. Prescott has beaten them
- 15:46Speaker 2: more than his share, and they've played well against them.
- 15:49Speaker 2: But you know this Eagles defense right now, Derek, I mean,
- 15:53Speaker 2: they're playing at a super high level and you look
- 15:57Speaker 2: at the I think when Dak is looking at the
- 16:00Speaker 2: film this week getting ready for this game, and he's
- 16:03Speaker 2: going to be looking at the film of the Eagles
- 16:04Speaker 2: Lions game, and he's going to see all those bodies
- 16:07Speaker 2: buzzing around Jared Goff. I think Dak Hason spended this
- 16:12Speaker 2: week thingk wait a minute. This is a whole different
- 16:14Speaker 2: Eagles team that I remember because some of these guys,
- 16:18Speaker 2: especially Phillips, has really changed things. But you got you know,
- 16:21Speaker 2: Johad Campbell's in there, Na, Kobe Dean's playing at a
- 16:24Speaker 2: super high level. The Eagles defense right now is playing
- 16:28Speaker 2: probably better than any Eagles defense Dak Prescott has seen
- 16:31Speaker 2: to this point. So that's going to be the challenge.
- 16:35Speaker 2: And you know, I look, I guess I was wrong
- 16:40Speaker 2: this week. I mean I said that the Eagles if
- 16:42Speaker 2: they were going to have to score points to beat
- 16:43Speaker 2: the Lions, because I thought the Lions were going to
- 16:45Speaker 2: score some too, and they didn't. So I'm feeling kind
- 16:48Speaker 2: of the same way this week. And the Eagles are
- 16:49Speaker 2: going to have to score some to beat the Cowboys
- 16:52Speaker 2: the way they're moving the ball. But who knows, Maybe
- 16:54Speaker 2: the Eagles defense really is that good. But if it'll
- 16:59Speaker 2: be a good tests from what I've seen at the
- 17:01Speaker 2: Cowboys this year, especially playing at home, and you saw
- 17:05Speaker 2: it again Monday night, are they a great team overall, No,
- 17:09Speaker 2: but offensively they're still dangerous.
- 17:13Speaker 1: You know, I can see Dak shortening up his passing
- 17:17Speaker 1: game against the Eagles on Sunday. You know, he likes
- 17:20Speaker 1: to take those deep shots to Ceedee Lamb and George Pickens.
- 17:23Speaker 1: But you know, you're right, if he's watching the film
- 17:26Speaker 1: and he's watching all the different angles this person's coming from,
- 17:29Speaker 1: I can see I can see him shorting up his
- 17:31Speaker 1: pass game, and I can see Jake Ferguson being more
- 17:33Speaker 1: involved in the passing game, which would play into the
- 17:35Speaker 1: Eagles hands if they could keep keep everything in front
- 17:38Speaker 1: of them and make the Cowboys dink and dunk and then,
- 17:41Speaker 1: like they do, come up with the one big opportunistic
- 17:44Speaker 1: play a defense to turn them um of this game.
- 17:47Speaker 2: Yeah, that's and that's fairly typical of Brian Schottenheimer's offensive philosophy.
- 17:53Speaker 2: You know, if he's got big play receivers, and he does,
- 17:57Speaker 2: you know they'll take their shots down the field. But
- 18:01Speaker 2: if they if Dak doesn't like what he sees down there,
- 18:05Speaker 2: you know he'll be real quick to lay it off
- 18:07Speaker 2: to Ferguson. I mean, you know we've talked about Lamb
- 18:09Speaker 2: and Pickings being that they're receiving their chief receivers. But
- 18:13Speaker 2: Ferguson actually leads a team in receptions. He's caught more
- 18:16Speaker 2: balls than anybody because if Dak, if Dak doesn't feel
- 18:20Speaker 2: like he can get it to the other guys, he's
- 18:22Speaker 2: going to take it to Ferguson. And Ferguson, you know,
- 18:24Speaker 2: he moves the chains a lot offensively. They're pretty good,
- 18:28Speaker 2: they really are, and Prescott is playing extremely well, so
- 18:32Speaker 2: this will be as good as the Eagles defense is
- 18:34Speaker 2: playing right now, and they are playing at a real
- 18:36Speaker 2: high level. No people around the league are talking about
- 18:39Speaker 2: it too. I mean I've had a couple of emails
- 18:41Speaker 2: and a couple of conversations with some people this in
- 18:44Speaker 2: the last two weeks about asking me, do you think
- 18:46Speaker 2: it's Eagles defense is for real? I mean from what
- 18:48Speaker 2: we're seeing now, and I mean people around the lagers
- 18:52Speaker 2: atreting a buzz about this now, is how good this
- 18:54Speaker 2: Eagles defense is right now? They're they noticed, Okay, so well,
- 19:00Speaker 2: this will be a good test here because you know,
- 19:03Speaker 2: they certainly shut down the Packers. They absolutely shut down
- 19:07Speaker 2: the Lions who were scoring on everybody. This will be
- 19:10Speaker 2: another good test taking on this Cowboys offense in Dallas.
- 19:14Speaker 2: This will be another good test for this Eagles defense
- 19:16Speaker 2: to see just how good they are right now.
- 19:20Speaker 1: You know there are those out there, not meaning but
- 19:22Speaker 1: those that I'm assuming there could be Dallas backers that
- 19:25Speaker 1: that will argue that Ceedee Lamb and George Pickens are
- 19:29Speaker 1: the best one two receiver comboy in the NFL. And
- 19:31Speaker 1: then stops that pumped the brakes for a minute. Here
- 19:34Speaker 1: you have a couple of good wide receivers out there
- 19:36Speaker 1: with the Rams. Cincinnati is a couple of good receivers,
- 19:39Speaker 1: and of course the Eagles have a couple of good
- 19:41Speaker 1: ones as well. Where would you rank the combination Lamb
- 19:44Speaker 1: in Pickens.
- 19:50Speaker 2: You mentioned the top ones, Yeah, you mentioned that those
- 19:53Speaker 2: are probably the four best. Boy Higgins and are good. Yeah,
- 20:02Speaker 2: they're really good. And you know they've been playing this
- 20:04Speaker 2: whole year with without Joe Burrow. You know if you
- 20:08Speaker 2: if you put them with Burrow, you know they might
- 20:12Speaker 2: they might be the best. Right now, It's hard to
- 20:14Speaker 2: evaluate them with the quarterback position being what it is there. Uh,
- 20:23Speaker 2: when they're when they're healthy, might be Lamb and Pickens
- 20:27Speaker 2: really might be. I mean they're they're they're very good
- 20:31Speaker 2: and they compliment each other very well. And Pickens has
- 20:33Speaker 2: been for a guy that throughout his career has been
- 20:35Speaker 2: sort of an in and outer. You know, some weeks
- 20:38Speaker 2: he looks great. Other weeks you barely see him in
- 20:40Speaker 2: the squoreesheet. He's been very consistent this year. And uh,
- 20:45Speaker 2: the Eagles, you know, the Eagles, I'm probably are feeling
- 20:48Speaker 2: pretty good about themselves right now, coming off the BIE
- 20:50Speaker 2: with two big wins, defense playing great. They can't sleep
- 20:54Speaker 2: on this game. They really can't. I mean, they can't
- 20:57Speaker 2: just decide, oh, the Cowboys aren't any good, you know,
- 20:59Speaker 2: and and just make them for granted. Because this team
- 21:02Speaker 2: can move the ball, and they can score, and they
- 21:05Speaker 2: can and they can make big plays. So they're going
- 21:08Speaker 2: to be a test. I think the Eagles defense is
- 21:11Speaker 2: more than capable of dealing with it. I'm more interested
- 21:14Speaker 2: in the other side of the ball and seeing what
- 21:17Speaker 2: the Eagles offense can do against the defense that has
- 21:22Speaker 2: so many holes in it right now and is playing
- 21:24Speaker 2: so poorly. This could this, to me, could be a
- 21:26Speaker 2: game where the Eagles offense really starts to crank it up.
- 21:29Speaker 2: And I think, you know, if they don't go down
- 21:31Speaker 2: there and move the ball and score a lot of points.
- 21:33Speaker 2: I'm going to be surprised, and you know, and frankly
- 21:37Speaker 2: a little worried because this is a team that they
- 21:39Speaker 2: should handle offensively. This is a team that they should
- 21:42Speaker 2: be able to handle. You just jinked them, right, You
- 21:46Speaker 2: just jinked them. Probably did I probably did? You know you?
- 21:52Speaker 2: And you will remind me of that. Absolutely, you will
- 21:55Speaker 2: remind me of that Monday if that's how it turns out,
- 21:57Speaker 2: if they lose. That's the first thing I'm bringing up.
- 22:01Speaker 1: Hey, you know, the Eagles defense did just just an
- 22:05Speaker 1: incredible job of stonewalling Jamier Gibbs and David Montgomery because
- 22:11Speaker 1: they like they like to run those inside zone runs.
- 22:14Speaker 1: And here's another team, Javonte Williams for the Cowboys. You know,
- 22:18Speaker 1: this guy's got one hundred and sixty one carries. He's
- 22:20Speaker 1: closing in on his first thousand yard season. He's got
- 22:24Speaker 1: eight hundred and nine yards. He's a powerback, excuse me.
- 22:29Speaker 1: And he loves to get those inside zone reads. If
- 22:31Speaker 1: the Eagles can take away their run game as well,
- 22:35Speaker 1: make them one dimensional, you have a right way you want.
- 22:38Speaker 2: Yeah, And he's been he's been a very good addition
- 22:42Speaker 2: to them. He really has the he's the best runner
- 22:46Speaker 2: they've had for a while, and he's you're right, he
- 22:49Speaker 2: runs with a lot of power. He always I like
- 22:52Speaker 2: the way he runs because he always gets you that
- 22:54Speaker 2: extra yard yard and a half. You know, he's always
- 22:57Speaker 2: gone forward. He doesn't get you don't get him for
- 23:01Speaker 2: negative yardage. I mean he is a straight north south
- 23:04Speaker 2: guy who takes people on and gets everything there is
- 23:08Speaker 2: to get on each carry. And he's been very good.
- 23:12Speaker 2: And if you look at that offense, it's really complete.
- 23:15Speaker 2: I mean, two really good wide receivers, really sure handed,
- 23:19Speaker 2: reliable type sort of tight end. Williams has given them
- 23:24Speaker 2: a real solid running component. Dak is playing great. So offensively,
- 23:29Speaker 2: they're they're really good, they really are. And I you
- 23:32Speaker 2: know Vic Fangio when he met the press this week,
- 23:37Speaker 2: you know, Vic was typically direct in his answers. You know,
- 23:41Speaker 2: when people are asking about the Dallas offense, you know
- 23:44Speaker 2: they're good, you know, I mean, they're they're really good,
- 23:46Speaker 2: and we're going to have to be on our game
- 23:48Speaker 2: to shut them down because if you make one mistake,
- 23:52Speaker 2: if you blow one coverage, if you miss one tackle,
- 23:56Speaker 2: they've got guys who can take it to the house.
- 23:58Speaker 2: And that's that's one of the things that and this
- 24:00Speaker 2: again is a reflection on Fangio, what a good teacher
- 24:03Speaker 2: he is and what a stickler he is on detailing.
- 24:08Speaker 2: I mean, they don't they do not blow coverages the Eagles.
- 24:11Speaker 2: You just don't see one of those situations where a
- 24:14Speaker 2: receiver is wide open catching a pass and you've got
- 24:17Speaker 2: two defenders looking at each other saying, you know, I
- 24:20Speaker 2: thought you you you had him. No, no, you had him.
- 24:24Speaker 2: They don't do that. I mean, these guys, in addition
- 24:27Speaker 2: to being really talented and with a lot of speed,
- 24:30Speaker 2: they are they are well schooled.
- 24:32Speaker 1: Uh.
- 24:33Speaker 2: And that's one of the that's one of the reasons
- 24:35Speaker 2: why they're so consistent right now. But they're going to
- 24:38Speaker 2: have to be that this week in Dallas, because that's
- 24:41Speaker 2: a team. If you make a mistake, if you blow
- 24:43Speaker 2: a coverage, if you miss a tackle, they have enough
- 24:46Speaker 2: athletes on that side of the ball they'll make you
- 24:48Speaker 2: pay for it. All right, Ray, who do you like
- 24:50Speaker 2: this game? Prediction time?
- 24:53Speaker 1: Well?
- 24:53Speaker 2: I like the Eagles. Uh. In all honesty, the Eagles
- 24:58Speaker 2: should win this one handily. Their offense, I don't know
- 25:02Speaker 2: how much I can count on their offense I'm gonna
- 25:04Speaker 2: get Look, I want to give them the benefit of doubt. Okay,
- 25:07Speaker 2: I'm gonna I'm gonna say this is the weekend that
- 25:09Speaker 2: they break out. I'm gonna say this is the weekend
- 25:12Speaker 2: that they and they should, I mean they should, they
- 25:15Speaker 2: should roll this team. So, Okay, I'm gonna make myself
- 25:19Speaker 2: look foolish. I'm gonna I'm gonna say it. I'm gonna
- 25:23Speaker 2: say the Eagles win this one, thirty to sixteen. Ooh ooh.
- 25:30Speaker 4: I like that.
- 25:31Speaker 2: I've also put in my faith in the Eagles.
- 25:33Speaker 1: I know the Cowboys, you know, I want to get
- 25:36Speaker 1: back at them for losing a season opener of twenty
- 25:38Speaker 1: four to twenty.
- 25:38Speaker 2: I believe it was.
- 25:40Speaker 1: You know, Dallas is a much different team at home
- 25:42Speaker 1: than they are on the road. They're two to one
- 25:43Speaker 1: and one at home. The one thing that's stuck out
- 25:46Speaker 1: in my mind is that two weeks ago Arizona went
- 25:48Speaker 1: into Dallas and held Dallas to seventeen points in their
- 25:51Speaker 1: own backyard. Before that, they were averaging forty one points
- 25:55Speaker 1: a game at home, and somehow, some way, of all teams,
- 25:57Speaker 1: Arizona went in there and took it to the Dallas
- 26:01Speaker 1: Cowboys well, if Arizona can hold you know, Dallas is
- 26:04Speaker 1: seventeen at home, surely the arguably the best defense in
- 26:08Speaker 1: the NFL right now. The Eagles can hold them to that.
- 26:11Speaker 1: So I'm going to say the Eagles get their offense right.
- 26:14Speaker 1: The Dallas Cowboys will put up a gallon fight because
- 26:17Speaker 1: it's a divisional game. But when the dust settles, the
- 26:20Speaker 1: Eagles win this game thirty one to twenty one. And
- 26:25Speaker 1: I think Dallas gets a meaningless touchdown in the end
- 26:28Speaker 1: of the game somewhere, just to make you look respectable. Hey,
- 26:32Speaker 1: before I let you go, I understand once again, we
- 26:35Speaker 1: want to promote something you have coming up with something
- 26:37Speaker 1: a great event coming up.
- 26:39Speaker 2: Can you tell us about it? Yeah, I want to
- 26:41Speaker 2: let people know that. Glenn mcnow my old radio partner,
- 26:45Speaker 2: it's the great Joe Conklin and I have put together
- 26:49Speaker 2: a really fun show and it's called the Greatest Moments
- 26:52Speaker 2: in Philadelphia sports History. We've done it at a couple
- 26:55Speaker 2: of different theaters and people have loved it, and so
- 26:58Speaker 2: we're doing it again. We're bringing it to a place
- 27:01Speaker 2: called the Scottish Right Theater in uh in Colleineswood, New Jersey.
- 27:06Speaker 2: Beautiful Theater, thousand seats. I've seen a couple of concerts there,
- 27:11Speaker 2: terrific venue, and so we're gonna be there doing the
- 27:14Speaker 2: greatest moments in Philadelphia sports history on Wednesday, December the third.
- 27:19Speaker 2: So if you want to, you want to relive Schmidty
- 27:23Speaker 2: and Rose and Bernie and Clarkey and doctor j and
- 27:28Speaker 2: you know Nick Foles and Wilbert Montgomery. You want to,
- 27:31Speaker 2: you want to relive all of that in one night,
- 27:34Speaker 2: this is your night. So uh go to the Scottish
- 27:36Speaker 2: Rite Auditorium website and order your tickets and I'll see
- 27:41Speaker 2: you on December the third. I guarantee you it will
- 27:44Speaker 2: be a great time.
- 27:45Speaker 1: That's unbelievable. Three great Philadelphia historians, historians under one roof.
- 27:50Speaker 1: You can ask for anything better. Uh So for my
- 27:54Speaker 1: colleague and friend, Ray Didinger, Cowboys Eagles coming up Sunday
- 28:00Speaker 1: down in Big d I'm Derek Gunn. Of course, we'll
- 28:03Speaker 1: be back here next week to recap how that game
- 28:05Speaker 1: turns out. So until then, so long, everybody,
