- 0:00Speaker 1: There's something about the warm summer air and a cold
- 0:02Speaker 1: corona with lime that makes the roar of the crowd
- 0:05Speaker 1: sound a lot like the roar of the waves.
- 0:07Speaker 2: That's because this is our playa, and the best seats

- 1:59Speaker 4: It perfect.
- 2:03Speaker 3: He's doing it perfect. It's like he's been there before.
- 2:22Speaker 5: Welcome back to another episode of Ross and Rizzo Unfiltered.
- 2:27Speaker 5: We're coming at you live Friday, or not live, but Friday.
- 2:32Speaker 5: Twice a week coverage now leading up to the playoffs,
- 2:34Speaker 5: and when we pick it up even more, we just started,
- 2:36Speaker 5: saw there, the Cubbies with some high vibes there. Churchill Downs,
- 2:40Speaker 5: Alex Bregman, active parliament, horse winning a race, and all
- 2:45Speaker 5: the Cubs are there.
- 2:46Speaker 4: That's a useful way to spend the off day, huh, Rossi?
- 2:49Speaker 1: Buddy that reminded me championship teams do things fun together
- 2:53Speaker 1: and the fact that they were in churchill downs right
- 2:56Speaker 1: before they play the reds it took me back to
- 2:59Speaker 1: our golf trip with lester and some of the amazing
- 3:02Speaker 1: things we got to do like that brings a team
- 3:03Speaker 1: together that that act of parliament feels like he brought
- 3:08Speaker 1: those guys together in a cool way uh not that
- 3:11Speaker 1: there are not only close but you know, winning teams,
- 3:14Speaker 1: do fun stuff off the field.
- 3:15Speaker 3: And everybody was there, coaches, trainers. You could see the
- 3:18Speaker 3: whole thing. That was a really cool moment.
- 3:21Speaker 4: It looked awesome.
- 3:22Speaker 5: And, too, the rookie dress-up, seeing the guys dress up
- 3:25Speaker 5: as jockeys, right? I know that's been a lost art
- 3:28Speaker 5: in the game. But, yeah, I mean, act of parliament. Congratulations, Bregge.
- 3:34Speaker 5: I mean, bro, Bregge, Alex Breggeman has been on fire
- 3:38Speaker 5: in the second half. I know he didn't get off
- 3:40Speaker 5: to a good start. But his second half numbers, Rossi,
- 3:43Speaker 5: are MVP-level numbers. He's hitting. 305,. 384 on base,. 623 slug.
- 3:49Speaker 4: Over 1,000 OPS, 17 homers. I mean, bro.
- 3:53Speaker 3: Crazy. I mean, it's... He's doing it. Well, and that's what.
- 3:57Speaker 1: I think we both know him and knew he wasn't
- 4:01Speaker 1: going to not put up the numbers he's used to
- 4:05Speaker 1: putting up.
- 4:05Speaker 3: And you see now, like, what a great signing this
- 4:07Speaker 3: has turned out to be.
- 4:08Speaker 1: And... And he plays gold glove defense. And he's a leader.
- 4:12Speaker 1: And he's bringing these guys together. And speaking of, like,
- 4:16Speaker 1: guys that are absolutely raking, everything PCA touches, he touches
- 4:21Speaker 1: Act of Parliament.
- 4:22Speaker 3: And then he went to the Jag Day. Everything PCA
- 4:25Speaker 3: touches is gold.
- 4:26Speaker 1: I feel like every segment, we're just absolutely, we can't
- 4:31Speaker 1: say enough good things about the MVP pretty much locked
- 4:34Speaker 1: up for PCA. Bro.
- 4:35Speaker 4: 44 home runs, most by a left-handed hitter in Cubs history.
- 4:41Speaker 4: Hit two more, right? He's crazy.
- 4:45Speaker 5: It's the 10th time he had a game with 10-plus bases.
- 4:49Speaker 5: Most by a player, 25 and under ever.
- 4:52Speaker 4: He's just doing things this year that are unprecedented, have
- 4:55Speaker 4: never been seen, and they're rolling. They're the number one
- 4:59Speaker 4: offense for a reason, and Bregman and P.C. are the
- 5:02Speaker 4: reasons why.
- 5:03Speaker 3: They're doing it, man.
- 5:04Speaker 4: Big reasons why.
- 5:05Speaker 3: I think it may go down. I was looking at
- 5:07Speaker 3: some numbers.
- 5:08Speaker 1: It may go down as one of the best seasons
- 5:10Speaker 1: in Cubs history by the time this thing's all said
- 5:12Speaker 1: and done.
- 5:13Speaker 3: I mean, he's knocking on the door of a 10-win player. Like,
- 5:16Speaker 3: that's insane. Insane. Like, 10 wins.
- 5:20Speaker 1: You know, I don't get into war and all that stuff,
- 5:22Speaker 1: but my gosh, what he's doing is remarkable, and it's
- 5:26Speaker 1: so fun to watch how he's handled the whole thing.
- 5:29Speaker 1: You know, the one thing I keep looking at, Riz,
- 5:32Speaker 1: is like, is he going to get those three stolen bases?
- 5:35Speaker 3: And is it even important to him?
- 5:36Speaker 1: I think we all as fans want to see a
- 5:38Speaker 1: 40-40 season, right, and how historic that is. But getting
- 5:42Speaker 1: those three bags, I don't even feel like it's an
- 5:45Speaker 1: important thing for him. He's trying to stay healthy.
- 5:47Speaker 3: He's going to hit home runs. If he keeps hitting
- 5:48Speaker 3: home runs, he's going to have a chance.
- 5:50Speaker 4: To steal bags. If he keeps hitting home runs, I'd
- 5:52Speaker 4: rather have him hit 50 than steal 40.
- 5:55Speaker 3: Same.
- 5:55Speaker 1: It feels like he could get those last three bags
- 5:57Speaker 1: in his sleep, but I think as a fan, I
- 6:00Speaker 1: want him to get those. But I feel like what's
- 6:03Speaker 1: really important to him is he's got his eye on
- 6:05Speaker 1: the bigger picture, which is going to the playoffs and
- 6:08Speaker 1: making a big-time run.
- 6:09Speaker 5: Well, bro, these next 10 days are huge for them.
- 6:13Speaker 5: They're tied with the Phillies right now. The Padres are
- 6:16Speaker 5: one game back. You're talking about you need to stay
- 6:19Speaker 5: on top of your game, so it's a good thing
- 6:21Speaker 5: for PCA because he can steal the bags. Nothing will
- 6:24Speaker 5: look like he's just chasing numbers right so but that
- 6:29Speaker 5: wild card race bro that's i mean phillies phillies padres
- 6:34Speaker 5: cubs cubs cubs have the their strength their schedule is
- 6:39Speaker 5: a lot easier than the phillies and the brewers and
- 6:43Speaker 5: they play the red socks those last three games the
- 6:45Speaker 5: cubs for the red socks last three games where the
- 6:46Speaker 5: red socks will already have the locked up the second
- 6:49Speaker 5: seed in the wild cards so hopefully they're lining up
- 6:51Speaker 5: their rotation and kind of punting those last three but
- 6:55Speaker 5: The NL wildcard, man.
- 6:57Speaker 4: That's going to be a fun. It's going to come
- 6:58Speaker 4: down to the wire. I know we've been talking about it,
- 7:00Speaker 4: but it's going to be a fun one to watch.
- 7:02Speaker 3: It's so fun.
- 7:03Speaker 1: And like home field advantage in the postseason, especially when
- 7:06Speaker 1: you're talking about Philadelphia. I know the Cubs hold the
- 7:10Speaker 1: tie break there. So, you know, they don't want to.
- 7:14Speaker 4: Go to Philly. Bro, all three. Like, think about this.
- 7:18Speaker 5: The home field can be in San Diego or In
- 7:22Speaker 5: Philly or in Chicago, those are three legitimate home field advantages.
- 7:26Speaker 3: No doubt.
- 7:27Speaker 4: Especially playoff time.
- 7:28Speaker 1: Well, especially like you talk about Phillies and Cubs, like
- 7:32Speaker 1: nobody wants to go to the West Coast, right? Like
- 7:35Speaker 1: you don't want to go all the way to the
- 7:36Speaker 1: West Coast to play. Central's not as bad, but the
- 7:40Speaker 1: Phillies don't want to have to do that. It's going
- 7:41Speaker 1: to be... It's going to be exciting, man. I'm so
- 7:44Speaker 1: glad we're doing this podcast. More down here in the
- 7:47Speaker 1: stretch and every day to the playoffs. But this Friday,
- 7:49Speaker 1: I'm glad we're jumping back here on this Friday and
- 7:51Speaker 1: getting this edition in because there's a lot going on.
- 7:54Speaker 5: Let's talk about some greatness. The Dodgers win the NL
- 7:59Speaker 5: West fifth straight year, 13 out of 14 seasons, Rossi.
- 8:04Speaker 5: It's one of the greatest division runs of all time
- 8:07Speaker 5: next to your Bravos.
- 8:09Speaker 4: I mean... it.
- 8:11Speaker 5: Like what how how do they just keep do i
- 8:14Speaker 5: know they've been spending a ton of money lately but
- 8:17Speaker 5: 10 years ago they.
- 8:17Speaker 1: Weren't yeah well i think the thing that gets it
- 8:21Speaker 1: we always talk about the money but the thing that
- 8:23Speaker 1: gets overlooked their minor league system has been really contributed
- 8:27Speaker 1: they've had guys come up and do pajes and will
- 8:30Speaker 1: smith and they've added these guys obviously they spend a
- 8:33Speaker 1: lot of money and go get the right free agents
- 8:35Speaker 1: and spend on the pitching but they've had some guys
- 8:37Speaker 1: come up and really contribute or make the right trades
- 8:40Speaker 1: with their minor league system. Vargas, it's with the White Sox, like,
- 8:44Speaker 1: you know, being able to move him and get the
- 8:46Speaker 1: right pieces that they need to fill in. But what's
- 8:49Speaker 1: crazy to me, Riz, is the one year that they
- 8:53Speaker 1: didn't make it. They won 106 games and finished second
- 8:57Speaker 1: to San Francisco, who won 107. So, like, it's not
- 9:00Speaker 1: for lack of what they've.
- 9:02Speaker 3: Done on the field.
- 9:03Speaker 1: It's just, you know, one team, one organization had a
- 9:05Speaker 1: better year, but 13 out of 14 in all 14
- 9:09Speaker 1: years in a row in the postseason, that's just unheard of, man.
- 9:13Speaker 1: And back in the days, I mean, the Braves had
- 9:16Speaker 1: Glav and Maddox, Smoltz, Chipper, Bobby Cox as a Hall
- 9:19Speaker 1: of Famer.
- 9:19Speaker 3: I mean, that's all Hall of Famers.
- 9:21Speaker 1: Andrew Jones, like six Hall of Famers on that staff
- 9:26Speaker 1: is amazing.
- 9:27Speaker 3: And we may look back on the Dodgers, and obviously
- 9:29Speaker 3: there's going to be a lot of Hall of Famers
- 9:31Speaker 3: coming out of that group.
- 9:31Speaker 4: A lot of Hall of Famers coming out of that group.
- 9:33Speaker 5: I love Dave Roberts. when they were popping champagne and celebrating,
- 9:37Speaker 5: saying that we're the hungriest team, right? And he's like,
- 9:41Speaker 5: we're going for history, right? They know that they have
- 9:44Speaker 5: a three-peat on the horizon if they can pull this
- 9:46Speaker 5: off again, which it's, you know, they won 7 out
- 9:50Speaker 5: of 10. I remember we talked a few weeks ago
- 9:52Speaker 5: about they were struggling and what's going on with the Dodgers.
- 9:55Speaker 5: And I remember saying, don't worry, their strength is scheduled.
- 9:58Speaker 5: They got the Rockies coming up. They'll get in their
- 10:00Speaker 5: groove they're professionals and they've won 7 out of the
- 10:03Speaker 5: last 10 but bro their Otani's knee is an issue
- 10:07Speaker 5: but it's not that big of an issue Doc said
- 10:10Speaker 5: if there was a playoffs now he'd be playing but
- 10:13Speaker 5: their Blake Snell came out of the game you know
- 10:16Speaker 5: these are the guys that they were kind of It
- 10:19Speaker 5: seems like they were grooming or just kind of putting
- 10:22Speaker 5: along to the playoffs. And now that they're not fully
- 10:25Speaker 5: healthy going in is starting to cause a little bit
- 10:29Speaker 5: of concern for me because this team was built for October.
- 10:33Speaker 3: I think I'm in the same boat as you, man.
- 10:34Speaker 1: It's like you thought you would just hand the third
- 10:37Speaker 1: title to them to start the season and even really
- 10:40Speaker 1: halfway through, you're like, okay, they're going to get Glassnow back.
- 10:43Speaker 1: They're going to get Snell back. They're going to get
- 10:45Speaker 1: some guys healthy. Mookie's not going to be that bad
- 10:48Speaker 1: the whole time. But, you know, Diaz is not returning
- 10:51Speaker 1: or is returning, but not as a closure.
- 10:54Speaker 4: Sasaki has a blister.
- 10:56Speaker 3: Yeah, just little things. And you know how it is.
- 10:58Speaker 3: You want to be in that.
- 11:01Speaker 1: Hitting on all cylinders at the back end of the
- 11:03Speaker 1: season to go into the post season. And they are,
- 11:06Speaker 1: are winning baseball games, but it doesn't feel like, you know,
- 11:10Speaker 1: and like Dave even said, he's still, still their best
- 11:13Speaker 1: baseball hasn't been played yet.
- 11:15Speaker 4: I agree.
- 11:16Speaker 5: And, and the experience too, like they've won, they've been there,
- 11:19Speaker 5: they've done it. They've won the last game of the season.
- 11:21Speaker 5: They played in game seven last year. They're, they're fully back.
- 11:25Speaker 1: So, Um, I was about to say, you know, it's
- 11:28Speaker 1: not that easy to flip the switch, but you were,
- 11:30Speaker 1: you were a switch flipper, uh, self-proclaimed Rossi. I can
- 11:35Speaker 1: flip on the switch at any time. So, um, I'll,
- 11:38Speaker 1: I'll save that comment because those guys might be able
- 11:40Speaker 1: to do that.
- 11:41Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 11:41Speaker 1: I will.
- 11:42Speaker 5: Well, Rossi talking about is when Rossi played and gets
- 11:45Speaker 5: to the field, he was on right away intensity the
- 11:48Speaker 5: entire day to where being an everyday player, uh, you
- 11:53Speaker 5: had to really conserve your energy until the last moment.
- 11:56Speaker 4: So he'd be, there'd be times where he'd be yelling
- 11:58Speaker 4: at me, Hey, let's go 44. I'm like, relax.
- 12:02Speaker 5: And I looked at him one day and I go, Rossi,
- 12:05Speaker 5: I go, I'm a switch player. I can, I go,
- 12:07Speaker 5: I can turn it on and off at any time.
- 12:09Speaker 5: If I need to be on right now, I just
- 12:11Speaker 5: turn the switch on and I go.
- 12:13Speaker 3: I'm like, Riz, lock it in. He goes, I'm always
- 12:16Speaker 3: locked in. I'll be there when it matters, Rossi.
- 12:19Speaker 4: I'll be there when it matters.
- 12:20Speaker 1: Speaking a little bit of a down news, Aaron Judge
- 12:23Speaker 1: dealing with some, you know, I think they've said lower body,
- 12:27Speaker 1: leg injury, or, you know, something's bothering him.
- 12:31Speaker 3: Had to keep him out a little bit. What's your
- 12:33Speaker 3: level of concern on that?
- 12:36Speaker 4: I mean, not good.
- 12:37Speaker 5: Anytime he comes out of the game, I feel like
- 12:39Speaker 5: you know he's hurting. His comments after the game, saying
- 12:43Speaker 5: just being smart, don't want to jeopardize the future of
- 12:47Speaker 5: the season. But look, the Yankees need Aaron Judge to
- 12:54Speaker 5: be healthy. And him coming back and not doing any
- 12:58Speaker 5: rehab games, I agree with. It's Aaron Judge. If he
- 13:01Speaker 5: didn't want to go on rehab, he doesn't go on rehab.
- 13:03Speaker 5: He gets to make those. He's earned that kind of call.
- 13:07Speaker 5: The only thing that I kind of scratch my head
- 13:09Speaker 5: at is him playing four games in a row. He
- 13:13Speaker 5: played two, had a day off, then played four in
- 13:15Speaker 5: a row. Where it's like, look, we're just trying to
- 13:17Speaker 5: get Aaron Judge, and this is my fan hat on only.
- 13:22Speaker 5: I just need Aaron Judge healthy for the first round
- 13:25Speaker 5: of the playoffs.
- 13:26Speaker 4: And all of October.
- 13:28Speaker 5: I do not really care about his personal success these
- 13:33Speaker 5: next 10 days. I just want him healthy and hopefully
- 13:37Speaker 5: he gets rolling for the playoffs. So him going down
- 13:40Speaker 5: and dealing with an injury, hopefully it's hopefully for the
- 13:44Speaker 5: Yankees sake and for his sake that it's nothing, nothing major.
- 13:48Speaker 3: Yeah. That's such a fine line from a manager's perspective.
- 13:51Speaker 1: You're trying to keep him on this kind of rehab schedule,
- 13:54Speaker 1: but get him, as many at bats as possible, right?
- 13:57Speaker 1: Like we, he started a little bit slow. It's that big,
- 14:00Speaker 1: big home run. And, and, you know, we talked about
- 14:02Speaker 1: the numbers last episode of him. Once he got in
- 14:05Speaker 1: his rhythm, he's going off. So I think just trying
- 14:08Speaker 1: to get those reps and, and in the box and
- 14:12Speaker 1: trying to play with that a little bit is always
- 14:14Speaker 1: a little tricky and not knowing how the body's going
- 14:15Speaker 1: to react.
- 14:16Speaker 4: Well, yeah.
- 14:17Speaker 5: And he hit the home run to a Minnesota, which
- 14:19Speaker 5: is a great sign, but Rossi, like, Let's go back
- 14:24Speaker 5: to 2021. Say I got hurt early in the season
- 14:26Speaker 5: or later in the season, right?
- 14:28Speaker 4: And I'm coming back.
- 14:30Speaker 5: I look good. You and I have a great relationship.
- 14:32Speaker 5: Him and Booney have a great relationship. How are you
- 14:35Speaker 5: going to tell, as the manager, your superstar player who
- 14:38Speaker 5: has earned everything, every right to kind of bark demands, no,
- 14:44Speaker 5: you're not playing. How hard is that to save the
- 14:48Speaker 5: player from himself?
- 14:49Speaker 4: Or can you? I think that Honestly, I.
- 14:51Speaker 3: Don't I don't know.
- 14:51Speaker 1: Well, like you said, like going back to our situation,
- 14:55Speaker 1: like if you come into me, that's the hard. Those
- 14:57Speaker 1: are the hardest conversations, especially when you have a tight
- 15:00Speaker 1: relationship like me and you or him and Booney. It's
- 15:02Speaker 1: like I know you want to be in there. I
- 15:04Speaker 1: know you feel great, but we're playing for the big picture.
- 15:06Speaker 1: We're playing for the long run. It's like taking taking
- 15:08Speaker 1: out a pitcher, you know, at 80 pitches when you
- 15:12Speaker 1: you're really focused and they're cruising. You're focusing on the
- 15:16Speaker 1: long run. you know, early on and trying to talk
- 15:19Speaker 1: them off. You know, you guys are competitive. We're all,
- 15:22Speaker 1: we want to compete. Those are the toughest conversations because
- 15:25Speaker 1: you have that relationship. But at the end of the day,
- 15:27Speaker 1: that's what the manager's paid for. Like you're making the
- 15:29Speaker 1: toughest decisions and you got to sit them down and
- 15:32Speaker 1: they'll be pissed, but hopefully they see the big picture
- 15:35Speaker 1: at some point. And, you know, when, when, when you
- 15:39Speaker 1: guys get mad at us, it's not a good feeling.
- 15:41Speaker 3: It's not a good feeling when you're pissed off.
- 15:43Speaker 5: Hey, a serious question though. Is that what the manager
- 15:47Speaker 5: gets paid for? Is that all front office? Because as
- 15:49Speaker 5: a player, you think it's just coming from the front
- 15:51Speaker 5: office and the manager has to wear it type stuff.
- 15:54Speaker 1: Yeah, no, I think too, like, you know, your medical team,
- 15:58Speaker 1: like they've been.
- 15:59Speaker 3: Around a lot longer than we have.
- 16:02Speaker 1: And I still have that player mentality where it's like
- 16:05Speaker 1: the player comes into my office, you know, you want
- 16:07Speaker 1: to give them what they want, especially like, hey, I
- 16:09Speaker 1: don't want this off day.
- 16:10Speaker 3: I'm rolling.
- 16:11Speaker 1: I know it's day game after night game, but I
- 16:13Speaker 1: feel fine. You know, that's their competitiveness because they're raking,
- 16:16Speaker 1: but it's also you're trying to put big picture together
- 16:19Speaker 1: and not wear guys out or do what's best for them.
- 16:22Speaker 1: It's like being a dad and you know you're going
- 16:24Speaker 1: to piss off your son, but you got to make
- 16:29Speaker 1: the adult decision there.
- 16:31Speaker 3: So it does stink, but it's not always front office.
- 16:34Speaker 1: A lot of times it's just medical team going, hey,
- 16:36Speaker 1: it's probably smart if we give him a little bit.
- 16:38Speaker 3: Of a breather.

- 17:36Speaker 5: Yeah, hopefully for the game of baseball, it's just a
- 17:38Speaker 5: A few days, if that, and he's back full strength
- 17:41Speaker 5: because the Yankees definitely need him, especially with the Red
- 17:44Speaker 5: Sox and that wild card round.
- 17:45Speaker 4: That's going to be electric. It's lined up to be
- 17:48Speaker 4: at Yankee Stadium.
- 17:49Speaker 5: I'll be on that call at NBC, which I'm excited about.
- 17:51Speaker 5: That's going to be fun.
- 17:53Speaker 4: Very cool.
- 17:56Speaker 3: I'll tell a quick story.
- 17:58Speaker 1: Cody Bellinger, he was having an MVP caliber season my
- 18:01Speaker 1: last year, and I kept trying to find days off
- 18:04Speaker 1: for him. And he was all fine with it before.
- 18:07Speaker 1: And just like, Hey Cody, you got off in two days.
- 18:10Speaker 1: We're going to, we're going to let you, you know,
- 18:11Speaker 1: just breathe for a bit. You've been playing, you've been
- 18:13Speaker 1: stealing bags, whatever.
- 18:14Speaker 3: You're having a great season.
- 18:15Speaker 1: And he's like, yeah, no problem, Rossi. And then the
- 18:17Speaker 1: next day he gets four hits. He's like right in.
- 18:21Speaker 3: My office after the game. He's like, bro, I don't
- 18:23Speaker 3: need a day off. I'm fine. I was like, all right, bro,
- 18:25Speaker 3: you got it. You're like, you're the man you're you're rolling.
- 18:28Speaker 3: And I trust you. I probably err on the side
- 18:30Speaker 3: of trusting players.
- 18:31Speaker 1: There's there's, I think that's how you get to become,
- 18:34Speaker 1: you know, kind of that label of like a player's
- 18:35Speaker 1: manager versus just, um, some guy just kind of kind
- 18:38Speaker 1: of play it by the book. But, um, those are
- 18:40Speaker 1: the funny stories you come in and guys are, guys
- 18:43Speaker 1: are like, I don't need a day.
- 18:44Speaker 3: I'm like, all right.
- 18:44Speaker 5: Well, bro, it's what you said, like kind of remember when, uh,
- 18:49Speaker 5: Buck Showalter years ago said, um, a guy hit a
- 18:53Speaker 5: triple and they came down and said he ran too
- 18:55Speaker 5: much in the game. So you have to sit them
- 18:57Speaker 5: the next day for injury prevention. It, For me, it's
- 19:00Speaker 5: like that's what we've bred now is, oh, guys need
- 19:03Speaker 5: off days.
- 19:03Speaker 4: No, no, no.
- 19:06Speaker 5: If you're a dude and you want the respect of
- 19:08Speaker 5: your peers, you play every day. So from the player's perspective,
- 19:12Speaker 5: it's like guys who look for those off days, oh,
- 19:16Speaker 5: I need a day here or there.
- 19:17Speaker 4: No, no, no. Here you go. A little pat on
- 19:20Speaker 4: the ass.
- 19:21Speaker 1: They need an off day where they're not running the
- 19:22Speaker 1: bases because their ass is getting out, you know?
- 19:25Speaker 3: Like, let them work on the swing for a day.
- 19:27Speaker 1: We just had, I just did Mets, and I did
- 19:31Speaker 1: Mets and Orioles in New York, and Pete Alonzo plays
- 19:36Speaker 1: every single day in post, and he leads all of
- 19:39Speaker 1: baseball in RBIs since 2019, his rookie year, and games
- 19:43Speaker 1: played because he posts every single day, and that's a,
- 19:46Speaker 1: that's such a, from guys that have played, that's such
- 19:48Speaker 1: a respected staff because that's your dude, that's your horse.
- 19:52Speaker 3: He's posting every day.
- 19:53Speaker 1: You don't have to worry about you pencil him in
- 19:55Speaker 1: the middle of the lineup and go about your business.
- 19:57Speaker 3: And you know, that guy is.
- 19:58Speaker 1: Giving you a quality at bat and can bring damage
- 20:01Speaker 1: every single night. Like that's such a, such a great
- 20:04Speaker 1: thing to have on your team. Yeah. Yeah.
- 20:08Speaker 5: Pete Alonzo hasn't missed a game since 2023. So that's
- 20:11Speaker 5: a really, really good run of health. A team we
- 20:17Speaker 5: have not talked nearly enough about is the Tampa Bay Rays,
- 20:21Speaker 5: and specifically Junior Caminero, making, in my opinion, a late
- 20:25Speaker 5: MVP push with the numbers that he's putting up. They
- 20:29Speaker 5: just are coming off winning their sixth in a row.
- 20:31Speaker 5: He had two walk-offs last week. His stat line right
- 20:35Speaker 5: now is. 277. with a. 363 on base,. 535 slug,
- 20:40Speaker 5: 41 home runs, 96 RBIs, leads Jordan by one home
- 20:45Speaker 5: run and behind three RBIs, Rossi. This MVP race, I
- 20:51Speaker 5: thought a month ago was just Jordan all the way
- 20:54Speaker 5: locked up, but now you have Cam Schlittler. What he's
- 20:57Speaker 5: doing in the pitching front has been epic this year,
- 21:00Speaker 5: but Junior Caminero, bro, I might have him over Jordan
- 21:04Speaker 5: right now for the MVP.
- 21:06Speaker 3: That's crazy, bro. That's absolutely nuts. Um, I'm, I'm with you.
- 21:10Speaker 3: I think it's, he has definitely flown under the radar.
- 21:13Speaker 1: And, uh, I think that's just being in Tampa, but
- 21:16Speaker 1: like you said, Tampa is got a phenomenal team, uh,
- 21:20Speaker 1: and they've proved it. And, you know, they just clinched and, and,
- 21:23Speaker 1: you know, clinch a playoff spot with his walk-off home run.
- 21:26Speaker 3: How cool was that?
- 21:27Speaker 1: But, um, you know, your Don's Alvaro, when you, when
- 21:30Speaker 1: you compare, it's like, You know, Caminero 279 to 311
- 21:33Speaker 1: for Jordan on base, 363 versus 427. Like, Slug is
- 21:34Speaker 1: 535 to 590. He leads Caminero, Jordan does, in every
- 21:37Speaker 1: offensive category except for one home run. And I think
- 21:51Speaker 1: the great thing about Junior is he's doing it at.
- 21:54Speaker 3: 22 years old. You know, Jordan's 29.
- 21:56Speaker 1: But RBI is 96 for Caminero, 99 runs.
- 22:01Speaker 3: It's 120-point difference in OPS. That's a big gap. That's
- 22:05Speaker 3: a big gap.
- 22:06Speaker 4: Bro, the Astros are a 500 team, right? This is
- 22:12Speaker 4: an MVP race. Junior plays third. Exactly.
- 22:15Speaker 5: So, a defensive player, like, what do we just paint–
- 22:20Speaker 5: Jordan can win the Hank Aaron Award.
- 22:21Speaker 3: He's the best hitter. I love your debate here, but
- 22:25Speaker 3: I think he's still leading in war.
- 22:26Speaker 4: I probably agree, too. I agree, too, Jordan. I know
- 22:31Speaker 4: you do.
- 22:31Speaker 5: When you really want to have a debate about it,
- 22:35Speaker 5: I mean... Bro, Junior is having a hell of a year, man,
- 22:38Speaker 5: and the Rays are a real threat.
- 22:40Speaker 1: Listen, Caminero, like Polymarket right now, only a 6% to
- 22:46Speaker 1: the yes on Polymarket.
- 22:47Speaker 3: So a $ 10 trade.
- 22:49Speaker 1: Gets you back $ 138 if you think he can steal
- 22:53Speaker 1: the MVP from Jordan. So go check out a little Polymarket.
- 22:57Speaker 1: That's a good bet.
- 22:58Speaker 3: Very nice plug. If you're in the boat with Riz.
- 23:03Speaker 3: I mean, go make some money. Let's throw some money down.
- 23:05Speaker 3: You know what I would do if I was.
- 23:07Speaker 1: Like, you know, this is good for the pod of
- 23:09Speaker 1: me and you debating and not always agreeing on everything.
- 23:11Speaker 3: But if.
- 23:12Speaker 1: If it was Aaron Judge versus Junior Caminero, you would
- 23:15Speaker 1: be like, bro, all the numbers are different.
- 23:18Speaker 3: Like, this is my boy. He deserves the MVP.
- 23:20Speaker 1: Of course.
- 23:22Speaker 4: Exactly. Oh, I got no skin in the game on
- 23:23Speaker 4: these two. I got no skin in the game. Right, right, right.
- 23:26Speaker 1: I don't either, but I like being down here, both
- 23:29Speaker 1: of us in Florida. You're in New York now, but
- 23:31Speaker 1: Florida guys, I love the Rays and what they're doing.
- 23:33Speaker 1: And I think they're going to, man, they got a
- 23:35Speaker 1: really good chance to be in the World Series to me.
- 23:39Speaker 3: They're good, man.
- 23:40Speaker 4: Ladies and gentlemen, the Tampa Bay Rays and the Milwaukee Brewers,
- 23:44Speaker 4: if we have a World Series of the two smaller
- 23:48Speaker 4: markets in our league, can save baseball in 2027. I've
- 23:55Speaker 4: been thinking about that.
- 23:56Speaker 3: I've been wanting to say that on here.
- 23:57Speaker 1: I was like, bro, I think the commission may have
- 24:00Speaker 1: an absolute heart attack if those two end up in
- 24:03Speaker 1: the World Series.
- 24:04Speaker 3: But we'll see. They deserve it. I mean, they are
- 24:07Speaker 3: the two best teams in baseball.
- 24:08Speaker 5: All right, let's get to some topics that we talked
- 24:11Speaker 5: about on our last episode, Rossi, which I've been excited
- 24:14Speaker 5: to talk about today. Who is on that paper chase?
- 24:18Speaker 5: It's the end of the season. Guys have incentives. Guys
- 24:21Speaker 5: are trying to get to big milestones that will ultimately
- 24:24Speaker 5: make them a lot of money. One of the coolest ones, Rossi,
- 24:29Speaker 5: we have a whole list here. Shout out to Chris Tran,
- 24:31Speaker 5: our producer, pulling these up. Max Muncy of the Dodgers
- 24:35Speaker 5: has said, what I think is the best incentive. Every
- 24:39Speaker 5: single plate appearance he gets $ 35, 000 after 400 plate appearances.
- 24:46Speaker 5: He's currently at 527. So it caps out. I think
- 24:51Speaker 5: I caps out, but I think it caps at like
- 24:52Speaker 5: 4 million or something, but he's made already three plus million.
- 24:56Speaker 5: Just think about that. You have, you have your base salary, right?
- 25:00Speaker 5: And then you hit an incentive and you're like, Oh,
- 25:02Speaker 5: that bad.
- 25:03Speaker 4: That's a $ 35, 000. That's 35.
- 25:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 25:07Speaker 3: I got 35. Like I just made, I got four
- 25:10Speaker 3: batches made a hundred grand. Yeah. This game. Like that's,
- 25:13Speaker 3: that's pretty cool. And it's funny. Like, putting our player
- 25:17Speaker 3: hat back on.
- 25:18Speaker 1: There's those guys when you're in the playoff race, probably
- 25:20Speaker 1: not thinking about that as much as trying to have
- 25:22Speaker 1: your good at bats. But when you're out of it
- 25:24Speaker 1: and you got these types of at bats going on,
- 25:26Speaker 1: you're like, I got to post every single day. Like
- 25:29Speaker 1: there's no, there's no taking one off. Like I'm getting
- 25:31Speaker 1: this money at the back end. You try to find,
- 25:34Speaker 1: I think organizations can do a really good job of
- 25:38Speaker 1: having these incentives to, especially on, on veteran players at
- 25:42Speaker 1: times that just pushing them to the finish line. Sometimes
- 25:45Speaker 1: when you're out of it, That can always help. Anything
- 25:48Speaker 1: that turns on our competitive juices always helps at the
- 25:51Speaker 1: back end.
- 25:51Speaker 3: Of a long season.
- 25:53Speaker 5: I'm a huge believer in incentives, especially for veteran players
- 25:56Speaker 5: like you said, that gets them going more. I want
- 26:00Speaker 5: to say a strikeout wouldn't feel as bad, making $ 35, 000
- 26:03Speaker 5: in that bat.
- 26:05Speaker 1: In the middle of it, you would like it. I
- 26:08Speaker 1: remember I learned this from Dusty Baker. He would go
- 26:11Speaker 1: around to players and The last week's like, hey, do
- 26:14Speaker 1: you have any incentives I don't know about? You need innings,
- 26:18Speaker 1: talking to guys individually, and he would try to help
- 26:21Speaker 1: these guys get.
- 26:21Speaker 3: That, and I tried to do that when I managed. Pro.
- 26:25Speaker 1: Yeah, you want to try to get these guys any
- 26:28Speaker 1: little thing you can and be on their side, make
- 26:29Speaker 1: that extra cheese.
- 26:31Speaker 3: Getting on that paper chase, baby. Get on that paper chase.
- 26:34Speaker 1: Max Scherzer gets a million dollars at both 75 and
- 26:37Speaker 1: 85 innings pitched. He's currently at 72 and two-thirds, so That's.
- 26:43Speaker 5: Pretty much a lock. He doesn't need a million dollars,
- 26:47Speaker 5: but he's got plenty of money. But hey, as long
- 26:51Speaker 5: as he stays healthy. Goldschmidt needs 35 plate appearances, which
- 26:55Speaker 5: I don't know if he'll get that with the way
- 26:57Speaker 5: the Yankees kind of construct.
- 26:59Speaker 4: Their roster right now for a $ 500, 000 bonus.
- 27:02Speaker 5: Matthew Boyd needs five innings pitch, 5.5 and a quarter
- 27:05Speaker 5: for $ 100, 000. Got 100,000 at each of 80, 90, 100,
- 27:14Speaker 5: and 110 innings pitched. His final incentive is at 120
- 27:17Speaker 5: innings pitched.
- 27:19Speaker 3: He's getting there.
- 27:20Speaker 5: Just a normal outing for him. That'll get it. He'll
- 27:23Speaker 5: probably have two more outings, right?
- 27:26Speaker 1: Well, one topic we talked about, yeah, he'll probably have, what, two?
- 27:30Speaker 1: We got nine games left, so he'll have a couple
- 27:34Speaker 1: more starts, it feels like.
- 27:36Speaker 3: I don't know when the last.
- 27:37Speaker 1: Time he started, but one of the things we already
- 27:39Speaker 1: talked about, Ozzie Albies, Matt Olsen, Pete Alonzo, PCA, all
- 27:43Speaker 1: going for 162-game season, posting every single day. We know
- 27:48Speaker 1: we love that, and good luck to those guys. don't
- 27:51Speaker 1: sit them, don't clench and sit them. Let those guys
- 27:53Speaker 1: put every day. You played, how many seasons, you had
- 27:56Speaker 1: one or two seasons 162?
- 27:58Speaker 4: I played 160 one year. I led the league that year. 160.
- 28:04Speaker 5: And the days you have off and you get in,
- 28:06Speaker 5: you're pissed off as a player, but then you're like, fuck,
- 28:08Speaker 5: at least it's a game played because at the end
- 28:10Speaker 5: of the year, it's just all about GP, games played.
- 28:12Speaker 3: I love that.
- 28:15Speaker 4: We have some big milestones, guys. Chasing big milestones.
- 28:19Speaker 5: Ben Rice needs two home runs for 40, eight RBIs
- 28:23Speaker 5: for 100.
- 28:24Speaker 4: The season he's had, back-to-back seasons now.
- 28:27Speaker 5: Really establishing himself as just a premier left-handed hitter in
- 28:31Speaker 5: our game. Hunter Goodman needs two home runs for 40.
- 28:36Speaker 3: Let's go, Hunter.
- 28:37Speaker 4: From a catcher, right?
- 28:38Speaker 3: No doubt.
- 28:42Speaker 4: And a catcher in cores. Your body, man, has to
- 28:45Speaker 4: take a beating.
- 28:46Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, watching him make the all-star team and, like,
- 28:50Speaker 1: what he's doing, the homers, the power out of that position,
- 28:53Speaker 1: so cool. It just reminds you of, like, how hard
- 28:56Speaker 1: that is from Cal Raleigh last year. Like, really just
- 29:00Speaker 1: an epic season from Hunter Goodman on a bad team
- 29:02Speaker 1: and still putting up those kind of numbers. We're rooting
- 29:04Speaker 1: for him to get two more to get to 40.
- 29:06Speaker 1: Our man, friend of the program, Kyle Schwarber, needs five
- 29:10Speaker 1: homers to get to 50.
- 29:11Speaker 3: Need you, Schwarbs. Let's put that.
- 29:13Speaker 4: That would be back-to-back 50 homer seasons.
- 29:16Speaker 3: That's crazy, bro. What a slugger. What a slugger.
- 29:19Speaker 4: He is a beast. Bobby Witt, eight bags for 50.
- 29:25Speaker 4: PCA needs three more for 40, which 40-40 club would
- 29:30Speaker 4: be insane just to add on to his MVP season.
- 29:33Speaker 1: Fernando Tatis needs five to get to 40. Chris Sale
- 29:37Speaker 1: needs 10 Ks to get to 200 strikeouts. And Paul
- 29:40Speaker 1: Skeens needs 15 to get to 200. That is definitely reachable.
- 29:46Speaker 1: They probably both have two starts left, depending on how
- 29:49Speaker 1: they set up the– or the Braves set up the
- 29:51Speaker 1: rotations for the postseason. But those guys on the paper chase,
- 29:55Speaker 1: numbers chase, some milestones– that will be on the back
- 29:58Speaker 1: of your baseball card for the rest of your life.
- 30:00Speaker 3: Those are really cool numbers.
- 30:01Speaker 1: And really a lot of these guys, some of these
- 30:03Speaker 1: guys you're talking about Hall of Famers at the back
- 30:05Speaker 1: end of that. So it's nice to be able to
- 30:08Speaker 1: rip off some of those cool stats when they're talking
- 30:10Speaker 1: about you.
- 30:11Speaker 5: Who do you think on all those from the incentives
- 30:13Speaker 5: to the guys going from milestones, which one do you
- 30:16Speaker 5: think is career wise the biggest for that player?
- 30:22Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I think the Hunter Goodman, right, just
- 30:25Speaker 1: really bursted on the scene this year. I mean, 40
- 30:27Speaker 1: home runs out of the catching position we talked about
- 30:29Speaker 1: at Cal Raleigh and how much that got talked about
- 30:31Speaker 1: last year and obviously more than 40. But on a
- 30:35Speaker 1: bad team and in that position in Coors Field, it
- 30:39Speaker 1: feels like, you know, that's one, like the biggest milestone
- 30:43Speaker 1: for him. And the other one, I just think a
- 30:45Speaker 1: root for the young players to put those up early.
- 30:47Speaker 1: I think Ben Rice is in that category because he's–
- 30:50Speaker 1: I would say carry the Yankees, but he's been the
- 30:52Speaker 1: stabilizing force that stayed in that lineup in the middle
- 30:55Speaker 1: and putting up really good numbers after a decent season
- 30:58Speaker 1: last year, but really took a big step forward this year,
- 31:01Speaker 1: and he's fun to watch play.
- 31:03Speaker 3: What about you?
- 31:04Speaker 4: No doubt. I mean, I agree with you with the
- 31:06Speaker 4: Hunter Goodman. I'll go.
- 31:08Speaker 5: I like Chris Sale, him getting the 200 strikeouts, right?
- 31:10Speaker 5: He had a bunch of injuries in Boston.
- 31:13Speaker 4: They trade him. He's revived himself. He won a Cy Young.
- 31:16Speaker 5: I mean, he's like fine wine, bro. the Braves are
- 31:21Speaker 5: going to need him heavily in October.
- 31:24Speaker 3: For sure. For sure.
- 31:25Speaker 1: And you root for, he's been around a long time and, uh,
- 31:28Speaker 1: I don't know how it's sale.
- 31:29Speaker 3: He's gotta be like, you know, get to be, uh, mid.
- 31:33Speaker 4: Thirties, at least mid to.
- 31:35Speaker 3: Late thirties, right?
- 31:36Speaker 1: Yeah. So, I mean, when you see the way he's 37,
- 31:38Speaker 1: when you, when you see the older guys just continue
- 31:42Speaker 1: to put up just, you know, top tier league numbers, uh,
- 31:45Speaker 1: it's fun to watch and, and he's, He's kind of
- 31:48Speaker 1: that gritty guy that you just root for, and I'm
- 31:50Speaker 1: here close to Atlanta, so I get to see him
- 31:53Speaker 1: a little bit.
- 31:53Speaker 3: I like that man.
- 31:55Speaker 1: And he's 231 for 3,000 strikeouts.
- 31:58Speaker 3: Let's go, Chris.
- 32:01Speaker 5: That'll probably happen next year, honestly. Rossi, this has been fun.
- 32:06Speaker 5: Thank you, everyone, for tuning in to Ross and Rizzo
- 32:10Speaker 5: on Filter. We're coming at you again twice next week
- 32:13Speaker 5: as we ramp up for playoff coverage. Follow us, follow
- 32:17Speaker 5: along with us. We appreciate you subscribing, going on YouTube,
- 32:20Speaker 5: leaving comments. And at the end of every show, Rossi,
- 32:23Speaker 5: we do our TimBus mailbag slash ball bag questions of
- 32:28Speaker 5: the week. So we got a couple of good ones
- 32:31Speaker 5: this week. And this is probably our favorite.
- 32:34Speaker 4: Part of the show.
- 32:35Speaker 3: Yeah, for sure.
- 32:37Speaker 4: Let me read this first one. Yeah, you start it off.
- 32:39Speaker 3: Okay, I'll do an email from Richie Williams.
- 32:43Speaker 1: Guys, just wondering who were each of you guys' favorite
- 32:46Speaker 1: players growing up?
- 32:47Speaker 3: We'll start with you, Riz.
- 32:49Speaker 4: Fuck, Rossi.
- 32:51Speaker 5: I know 95% of our audience isn't going to know
- 32:55Speaker 5: who your favorite player was because it's probably still black
- 32:57Speaker 5: and white television.
- 32:59Speaker 3: That's messed up, bro. That's messed up. There's always a
- 33:01Speaker 3: dig at my age on that.
- 33:04Speaker 4: My favorite player was....
- 33:10Speaker 5: Gary Sheffield and Alfonso Soriano growing up. Gary Sheffield was
- 33:14Speaker 5: with the Marlins, had the bat waggle, right? And I
- 33:18Speaker 5: just love Soriano, so I got to play with Soriano.
- 33:22Speaker 1: I was in spring training with Sheff, and he's an
- 33:26Speaker 1: absolute beast. But he hit a ball. When his name
- 33:30Speaker 1: pops up, there's like two stories. He hit a ball
- 33:32Speaker 1: off Eric Gagne, tried to sneak a 99-mile fastball by him.
- 33:36Speaker 1: And it was a line drive off the center field wall.
- 33:38Speaker 1: And it took like two seconds. And I thought I
- 33:40Speaker 1: was going to knock the wall down. One of the
- 33:42Speaker 1: hardest balls I've ever seen hit. Jeff had serious juice.
- 33:46Speaker 1: He's probably one of the more well-rounded players.
- 33:48Speaker 3: Like speed, power, defense. Like he was really good.
- 33:52Speaker 1: I grew up in Tallahassee and the Braves were on
- 33:55Speaker 1: all the time. So it was like the Dale Murphy,
- 33:59Speaker 1: Eddie Perez, the catchers, obviously.
- 34:01Speaker 3: I was a big Pudge Rodriguez. I could catch and throw.
- 34:03Speaker 1: I loved watching Pudge Rodriguez throw guys out, but probably
- 34:07Speaker 1: just the Braves guys, Eddie, Charlie O'Brien. That's going to
- 34:11Speaker 1: be a throwback. A lot of people won't know, but
- 34:13Speaker 1: I loved his catching style. And when he was with
- 34:16Speaker 1: the Braves in Montreal for a little bit, and he
- 34:18Speaker 1: was kind of a journeyman.
- 34:19Speaker 3: So I just loved his style. So shout out Charlie O'Brien.
- 34:23Speaker 4: Let's go. What a drop. What a name drop there.
- 34:26Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 34:28Speaker 5: We got another email from Tony. Tony's been hot on
- 34:31Speaker 5: the show. I think this is a repeat question ask.
- 34:35Speaker 5: How do you think the 2016 Cubs fare in today's
- 34:38Speaker 5: game with the addition of ABS pitch clock, universal DH,
- 34:41Speaker 5: and otherwise? Outside of Schwarber, since he was hurt, who
- 34:45Speaker 5: would have been the best option for an in-season DH?
- 34:49Speaker 3: Oh, good question. Great question. Well, the 2016 Cubs were
- 34:54Speaker 3: really good.
- 34:55Speaker 4: Greatest team of all time.
- 34:57Speaker 3: Outside of the backup catcher, we had a really good squad.
- 35:03Speaker 1: Man, my first inclination was to go to Jorge Soler, right? Like,
- 35:09Speaker 1: I think Georgie was a beast, especially lefties. He hit,
- 35:14Speaker 1: he raked lefties for us already, but he had big-time power,
- 35:17Speaker 1: turned out to be a World Series MVP with the Braves, like,
- 35:21Speaker 1: I think he was coming to his own.
- 35:23Speaker 3: Um, I may be blanking on some guys, but.
- 35:25Speaker 1: Like, that's the first one that popped in my head
- 35:27Speaker 1: was Schwarber out. Uh, maybe if Schwarber was the DH,
- 35:31Speaker 1: he wouldn't have got hurt.
- 35:31Speaker 3: It wouldn't be playing left field.
- 35:33Speaker 1: So, uh, that was my, my, uh, that was kind
- 35:35Speaker 1: of my rebuttal to Tony, but, um, that's who I would.
- 35:38Speaker 3: Probably go with. Uh, George Solaire.
- 35:41Speaker 5: I think, I think first off that 2016 team plays
- 35:45Speaker 5: with any team. I think maybe the VLOs from that
- 35:49Speaker 5: team aren't up to date with the, starting pitching velocity
- 35:52Speaker 5: and the back-end bullpen velocity that there is now. But
- 35:56Speaker 5: the chemistry there was obviously.
- 35:57Speaker 4: I'm a little biased.
- 35:58Speaker 5: But I think one of the underrated things about that
- 36:02Speaker 5: 2016 team is Joe got all of our outfielders and
- 36:06Speaker 5: infielders at bats, right? So with a universal DH, it
- 36:12Speaker 5: almost could have hurt us as a team, keeping everyone
- 36:14Speaker 5: fresh and happy because– he always had guys kind of
- 36:19Speaker 5: moving in and out, but also playing every day where
- 36:21Speaker 5: they felt like they were playing every day.
- 36:22Speaker 4: So sure. Yeah. The, the Solaire one would have been great.
- 36:26Speaker 1: The other one that just popped in my head and,
- 36:28Speaker 1: and my manager thoughts is like, it'd probably be a
- 36:31Speaker 1: DH platoon between Solaire and Chris Coghlan. Chris Coghlan gave
- 36:34Speaker 1: us really good at bats when he came back after the,
- 36:37Speaker 1: the trade deadline.
- 36:38Speaker 4: Totally.
- 36:38Speaker 3: Or, uh, yes.
- 36:39Speaker 1: Or I think he, I think he got moved before that, but, um,
- 36:42Speaker 1: I think Chris Coghlan gave quality at bats. He was
- 36:44Speaker 1: a really good piece for us. Started games. in the postseason.
- 36:48Speaker 1: He was a quality AB, former Rookie of the Year.
- 36:51Speaker 1: Shout out Chris Coghlan, Jorge Soler, probably a platoon situation.
- 36:55Speaker 3: There, right, rights, and left.
- 36:57Speaker 4: Totally.
- 36:58Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 36:59Speaker 1: Last email from Andrea Azzo, I think you say, how
- 37:04Speaker 1: you pronounce that. I'd love to hear Anthony Rizzo discuss
- 37:07Speaker 1: his preparation for.
- 37:09Speaker 3: The Chicago Marathon. I saw you post something on your
- 37:12Speaker 3: story today where you're grinding.
- 37:13Speaker 1: You already did like 17.2% pounding a Coke, getting some
- 37:17Speaker 1: of that sugar in your system?
- 37:20Speaker 4: No, bro. I was just trying to fucking survive.
- 37:25Speaker 5: Ran 20 miles yesterday. It's still hot up here in
- 37:29Speaker 5: New York. It was a grind, bro. I appreciate the question, Andrew.
- 37:37Speaker 5: The preparation for the marathon, I run three or four
- 37:39Speaker 5: times a week. Um, do one long run a week
- 37:43Speaker 5: in the long runs. I just did my longest run,
- 37:45Speaker 5: which is 20 miles. And bro, I, that long run
- 37:51Speaker 5: killed me. Like I was, I got back around.
- 37:54Speaker 3: Was it mental? Was it like, what was the mental?
- 37:57Speaker 4: It's not, I don't, I don't know. I don't know
- 38:00Speaker 4: if it's mental, if it's physical, I don't know. Right.
- 38:02Speaker 4: I'm in a dog days of training. I'm running solo.
- 38:06Speaker 5: Right. It's a lot better when you run with people.
- 38:08Speaker 5: So on the actual day of the marathon, it'll be
- 38:10Speaker 5: a lot more fun. But my legs are heavy. My
- 38:15Speaker 5: glutes were on fire. Your hammies start grabbing on you,
- 38:20Speaker 5: your back, everything. And you just got to get it done. Literally,
- 38:24Speaker 5: I literally just say one step at a time, one
- 38:27Speaker 5: step at a time. What got me through yesterday was
- 38:30Speaker 5: a little bit of Rufus DeSoul, Inner Bloom and Underwater.
- 38:34Speaker 5: When I was really grinding, I would just play those
- 38:35Speaker 5: songs back to back that I just keep running until
- 38:37Speaker 5: the end of these songs.
- 38:38Speaker 4: And they're like 12 minutes. Nice.
- 38:40Speaker 5: But- you got a lot of carbs the night before
- 38:44Speaker 5: hydration is key.
- 38:46Speaker 4: And then just go and just take a step. Yeah.
- 38:50Speaker 3: That's impressive, bro.
- 38:51Speaker 4: That's impressive.
- 38:52Speaker 1: I saw your, I saw your, uh, your posts and
- 38:55Speaker 1: you looked like, like, Oh man, he's grinding.
- 38:58Speaker 3: He's in the middle.
- 38:58Speaker 4: No, bro.
- 38:59Speaker 5: It's, it's, uh, I'm excited for it. October 11th, bank
- 39:03Speaker 5: of America, Chicago marathon. Um, if you have it in,
- 39:07Speaker 5: you can donate. It's all going to, uh, my foundation,
- 39:10Speaker 5: which we raise money for pediatric cancer directly to families.
- 39:14Speaker 4: So have a lot of support. My wife's running it,
- 39:16Speaker 4: my brother, my sister-in-law.
- 39:18Speaker 3: Shout out Jake Arrieta.
- 39:19Speaker 5: Jake Arrieta is running it, who is a beast. We
- 39:22Speaker 5: ran in Chicago a few weeks ago. So I'll definitely
- 39:26Speaker 5: be prepared. I don't think I'm going to have the
- 39:27Speaker 5: best score, but any score is a good score, right?
- 39:31Speaker 5: Any time finishing is a good time. So as long
- 39:33Speaker 5: as I finish, I'm going to be happy.
- 39:35Speaker 3: That's impressive. That's impressive. I'm jealous. My body would fall apart.
- 39:40Speaker 1: Yep.
- 39:41Speaker 4: Yep. So, Rossi, why don't you close out the show
- 39:43Speaker 4: for us?
- 39:44Speaker 5: All right.
- 39:44Speaker 1: Thank you guys for your questions and our Timbus ball bags.
- 39:50Speaker 1: Don't forget to submit questions for our email ball bag
- 39:56Speaker 1: and comment at YouTube or email us at Ross and
- 40:00Speaker 1: Rizzo at gmail.com. That's Ross and Rizzo gmail.com. Thank you
- 40:05Speaker 1: guys so much for tuning in. We're having a blast
- 40:07Speaker 1: doing this two times a week, Tuesday and Friday next week.
- 40:11Speaker 1: Tune in and there will be every day in the
- 40:13Speaker 1: post season. Thank you guys so much for tuning in.
- 40:16Speaker 1: We're having a blast doing this and we appreciate the love.
- 40:20Speaker 1: Till next week, peace.
