- 0:00[rock music] Questions arise.
- 0:13One of the benefits of having headphones is we can rock out to that intro. You miss much. Get startled into action. Yeah. [grunts] Hey, hey, I'm up, I'm up. I'm ready. That's my buddy's band's version of, uh,
- 0:25what's that Queen song? At the bottom of the world. I wanna ride my bicycle. I wanna ride my bicycle. Yeah. It's very metally though. It's awesome. Uh, hey, everybody. It's Full Spectrum Cycling 298 today. Wow.
- 0:38Getting closer. Getting close to three hundo. And you know what? It still doesn't work with the touching the screen thing. Mm-hmm. It's stupid. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Uh, yeah, so show number 298. Today is, uh, is Tony is in a,
- 0:52right here where he's not- Bizarro world... normally sitting. It is slightly unsettling. I'm Tony today. Yeah. We got Brad over there and Cory over there. Hello. Uh, those guys are- Hi...
- 1:02over there, and then Michael, he's, he's in his normal spot. Look at that guy. Tucked in. Just, yeah. So- Maybe at halftime we'll switch spots... do we, do we vote before the next show or is it on the show day? Show day.
- 1:14It's recording day, right? Correct. Yeah, so it's Tuesday. So fucking vote. So you got the shirt. Please. He's telling you what to do, folks, right there. It says vote. Yeah. I'm gonna do the opposite, then.
- 1:25Opposite guy. Brad's opposite guy. Don't tell me what to do. [laughs] Can I ask you politely? [laughs] Exactly. Could you please vote? I will. Exemption clause. Okay. Would you please? Just please.
- 1:37So, uh, Cory and, uh, Brad- Yeah... and I- Yeah... I think these other guys, went and saw the Rad 39th anniversary show, right? It was close to going. Yep. Yeah.
- 1:51And then, uh, this was the first year that they had the Rad documentary. Yeah, Rad. After, after the Rad screening. So it... And it, tell...
- 2:02You guys are more into the Rad thing than I am, and if they had their hoodies off, you'd see their shirts. Oh. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Look at that, Rad. Pealed. Peeler.
- 2:10And, and, and Brad's, and Brad's is all, uh- Are those reproductions? Sign. It's all au- it's all auto- autographs. Oh, and his is signed. Yeah. Autographed by- Three members of Rad... right on. Wow.
- 2:23So, uh, w- so what's, what does Rad mean to you guys 'cause, uh, you know, that's like, uh, 39 years worth of BMX. It's the movie that...
- 2:30I mean, I kinda tinkered in BMX, but I think it came out, I saw it for the first time when I was, like, eight or nine, and then it was like, "I gotta start building jumps and doing this," [laughs]
- 2:39You know, going, going balls out. [laughs] Yeah. So, so yeah, it was, uh, me and my friends watched it all the time. My cousins, they had a copy, I had a copy. So were you- You stole it or what?
- 2:50Did you buy the, the VHS at, like, a bike shop? We, uh- Because- I got... I found mine, so I'd, I had rented it and then my dad dubbed it. That's super American.
- 2:59And then eventually at, uh- So that's like he stole it, right? At what? Gold Coast Movies or something like that. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 3:05Um, then I found a sealed copy, like brand new, and bought that, and then, and I still have that one. And since then- Se- is it sealed? I [laughs] wish. [laughs] I wish.
- 3:17[laughs] I wish it were still sealed 'cause Cory's a collector of things, and, uh, autographs- Stuff... and, uh, cards, and- Yeah... so were there- Movies and stuff...
- 3:26Brad, were there, were there BMX cards when you were a kid? Did, did Eddie have a card or did, did any of the guys- I don't really remember those, but there, they were. Yeah.
- 3:35They, they, they must- They definitely were... I mean, if there were- It had to be... like baseball cards- Okay, yeah... someone had to jump on that... oh, there were.
- 3:39There was- If there were cards for Desert Storm- I don't... Think they had some... there must have been cards for BMX.
- 3:43Donruss in '85 came out with a set and, um, there, there are featured riders on there, but basically it was, like, an ad.
- 3:50And so there was, like, like, little, like, team sets where it'd be like, um, you know, Redline or Hutch, you know, or, um... And then they had, I think they had, like, Murray, you know, Skyway. They had- Mongoose...
- 4:04you know, like, Mongoose, you know. And so I have, I have that set. It's pretty cool. Right on. But, um, yeah, there's some riders on there.
- 4:11So, so, like, when, when Murray had a team, I mean, that was kind of a shit bike, but I think their team bikes were actually pretty- Oh, none, none, none of them rode that. Yeah, no. Right. They were the...
- 4:19They had stickers on them. Like, Lance Armstrong rode a LightSpeed. Right. Not a whatever he was sponsored by, Trek or whomever- Right... at the time. But, uh, so they rode somebody's- Yeah...
- 4:28good bike with, with M- Yeah... Murray stickers on it. [laughs] But- Didn't that work with Huffy too on road bikes? Huffy made a decent bike for some stuff. I don't know who they had make them. Okay.
- 4:38But it's, like, maybe Sarata or something made them. There, there was a Huffy team- Yeah... that I thought did really well a number of years, you know, not podium, but, but did really well.
- 4:47Trying to remember who 7-Eleven was. It was kind of a weird thing. Right. I think they were, they might've had Huffys. Yeah, it was some, might've been some- Some Scott-... American bike company sponsor.
- 4:57So Scott Clark rode for Murray back in the day? Like, when their, their heyday, like, they were huge, man. You know, their Team Murray. Yeah. They had lots of money. Sure.
- 5:07And of course, you know, nobody rode those bikes. They rode other bikes with Team Murray stickers on them. Right. Makes sense. But he had a story on his other podcast about- What's that other podcast?
- 5:18You can, you can say the name... Dirty Knobs Podcast. Dirty Knobs. Check it out. It's awesome. Just like those- Mike Miranda's... just like those guys, Dirty Knobs. It's Mike Miranda's- [laughs] Oh, right on...
- 5:26uh, Hollywood Mike Miranda's podcast. Copy that. Nice. Nice. But I, this is a more recent interview with him. Scott Clark rode for Redline too. Okay. And, and he's in Rad too actually. But, uh- Good stuff...
- 5:39something happened to his bike, so he was at a race and he actually had to go, he had to race an actual Team Murray, like, department bike.
- 5:48[laughs] And he, and he said he, he tried to leave the kickstand on and they wouldn't let him. [laughs] By 50- That would've been fun... you know how that probably went. 'Cause that could've been really scary.
- 5:59That's a little great. 'Cause those were crap bikes. I had one Yeah... that was my first BMX bike. Oh. Uh, I wonder what, how many kids BMX, first BMX bike was a Murray. 1982, Team Murray.
- 6:08Like, my first sorta BMX bike was a Schwinn Stingray. We didn't call them B- Me too. Exactly... we didn't call them B- we didn't call them BMX back then- Mine had-...
- 6:14we called them bike- Mine had ram bars is what we called them back then. Oh, God... drop bars. Can, can you imagine jumping with those things? On the 20-inch wheeled Schwinn Stingray. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Still have that?
- 6:24I remember it. I had a- I wish. It was a cool bike... I had a Crap Puffy and then I went into a Diamond Back- Ooh... Slide, which was nice. Good call. And, yeah, yeah. My buddies like...
- 6:33Oh, I'm trying to remember the name of it. Kuwahara? Does that sound familiar? Kawahara. Oh. Yeah, Kawahara. Oh, Jesus. Yeah. Okay. So yeah. So [laughs] It, it does sound familiar. Shit.
- 6:45Very, it doesn't sound familiar to me, but it looks familiar. You must have just looked at my shirt or something. No, no, no. I was just remembering a bu- a bunch of my buddies, uh...
- 6:53No, they got into like this like really like, uh, like it was like insurance fraud essentially. How? About like, like faking like they were st- like people were stealing each other's bikes. Oh, okay.
- 7:02And reporting it and getting the cash, but- Oh... not really stealing it, but then they got, everybody got hip to it. Yeah. So they had to take all of the bikes [laughs] and like- Wow...
- 7:10figure out what to do and they- Throw them into the river somewhere? Uh, the quarry. Yeah. The quarry over by, uh, that used to be, uh, in Greendale. To this day. Like 80 [laughs] They sank deep. Oh, yeah.
- 7:21Yeah, yeah, yeah. It was- Those bikes were crap, dude. You could go, let's go magnet fishing there. Maybe we can get them back. Oh, it's a sub- it's like a total- I have an ET bike actually...
- 7:28they, they, they made a huge subdivision out of it. They like filled in the quarry and it's- Wow... there are, there are bikes on the bottom of that- Think how much it takes to fill in a quarry like that...
- 7:36if they didn't like pay attention. They threw them in the quarry? Yeah. Wow. They, 'cause they freaked out, and it was like, "Oh, shit. Fuck." I knew a guy who, uh- [laughs]...
- 7:42this is a crazy story- I was, I was always impressed by that... but I knew a guy who rented a bike in Amsterdam. Mm.
- 7:50And, um, they told him that if he, "If, if you tell me the bike was stolen and you don't have the key-" Right... you're done. But if you bring me back the key and tell me what happened."
- 8:02Well, he got mad and slammed this bike and beat the shit out of it, and then he decided to throw it in a canal. And then he went back with the key, and he's like- Nice... "I can't find the bike."
- 8:14Wh- what's the moral of this story? [laughs] And he's like, "I'm guessing," he's like, "I'm guessing it was stolen." I touched a nerve. Yeah, apparently. [laughs] Yeah.
- 8:21So yeah, it basically, he got away with throwing a bike into the canal. Right. We should get magnets. Dude, yeah, magnet fishing's a big thing. Lunz wants to go do that, so maybe when he gets one we can go to the quarry.
- 8:32The quarry. Or the quarry's gone, isn't it? The quarry is- It's filled in. Yeah. Yeah. It's a- I think he wanted to those in like the Milwaukee River ones- But it was magnet... Yeah. Well-... where it's really deep...
- 8:39he, he wants to get back his, uh, wa- some iron working tool he dropped in the river when he was working on a bridge. He's like, "I'm gonna go find it after 20 years.
- 8:48[laughs]" [laughs] That's what happened with, uh- That would be a really cool story, though...
- 8:52if, yeah, I mean, those things have powerful, powerful su- They're not electromagnets though, so if you have like a 2,500 pound magnet and it, it latches onto a VW Bug, how are you gonna get it up?
- 9:03[laughs] I mean, if it was a electromagnet you could let go. I'm pretty sure you're not- You know, it'd be like... You know. But- Brush up on some, uh, MacGyver. Yeah. I know...
- 9:11there's gotta be something with like some cake mix and, uh- Yeah... rubber bands- Has to be... and some tinfoil... inflatable balloon or something that you can... All right.
- 9:19H- so Brad, how many times do you think you've seen Rad? Oh, hundreds. Hun- [laughs] Corey too? Yeah. So the, the guy that was sitting next to, uh, Lunz and I knew every line, and he was- Oh, yeah...
- 9:30you know, talking- Yeah... through the whole thing, and I'm like- I was trying not to do that. Yeah, right. [laughs] I really was.
- 9:35I, yeah, it, I was actually surprised that at- at least in my theater experience, and you guys were at South Shore? Yeah. South Shore. And I was out in, uh, in Waukesha. Okay.
- 9:44Um, but yeah, it was, everybody was like pretty- How many people were there?... pretty respectful. It was- Yeah... it had a good amount. Yes. It was, I mean, I think I had a, I went to that one because,
- 9:53um, there was more a- availability. Yeah. When I went to buy tickets. I th- This one was pretty full... I, I wanna say it was like the th- the third highest grossing movie of the week or something.
- 10:02It was, it did very well because- Nice... it was only showed for- That's great... one day, right? Yeah. And so- It is special... it's special. Everybody was pretty quiet at our theater. It's special.
- 10:11Last year everybody was like rocking out. Partying. Yeah. Like a Rocky Horror? [laughs] Yeah. [laughs] Yeah. Yeah. Do they throw- Time to throw toes. It was fun. Yeah. It was fun. I, I liked it a lot.
- 10:20Where's my, where's my rice? Was last year- So next year's the big one? Next year- No. Ah. Next year's 40. So I think it's 38 years, right? Uh, 40. Allison was born in '86. She's 38, so. I thought it came out in '85.
- 10:33'86. It came out '86. '86. Okay. So, so next year would be 40 then. Mm-hmm. 43 though will be the, that'll be the, that'll be the year. Oh, okay. [laughs] It'll be nice.
- 10:45Uh, so you guy- so the d- documentary was the first time this year. Yeah. Yeah. Um, I know that you can wait till April 22nd and you can start to view it and download it and all that stuff. Okay.
- 10:55It's gonna be available on April 22nd. There's pro- I have a link somewhere about the show notes, whatever. Yeah. Um, what'd you guys think of the documentary? Is it- It seemed pretty outdated, man. Yeah. Yeah.
- 11:06Everybody was a lot younger than I saw them last... I saw three people from that last summer and- Okay... and they looked a lot older... they didn't look like that. Yeah. We- Right...
- 11:15when we watched it, I went with Jake Newborn and we were like, it seemed like that those guys were, were younger, and then it turns out- Oh, way younger...
- 11:21that like, um, you know, it was probably around like 2012 or something that it was like originally filmed. Yeah. 'Cause right, Hal Needham died in 2013. Hal Needham died. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah.
- 11:30So I don't know if they did some of that after that- Mm-hmm... time with some of the other- And Bill Allen looked a lot younger as well. Oh, definitely. Definitely.
- 11:37You know, and, and so did, you know, I guess all those guys. Yeah. Uh, but I learned a, a good amount of stuff, you know. Right.
- 11:43Like the, uh, the Mi- like the Mike Miranda scene, I always thought, I was like, "Well, he got hosed. He's getting, you know, getting these bails like twice." Got 500 bucks. But- Per bail. Yeah...
- 11:54but he, but he, yeah, he was getting like 300 per bail. And so he volunteered to like crash twice, and that's why he, he got that extra money. You know? [laughs] And had extra falls 'cause he, he volunteered to do that.
- 12:06Plus he's very well known for that too because- Okay. Right See his name over and over. Right. Is, is that, is that why- Yeah... he's Hollywood, just 'cause of that? No, no. I, I guess actually- He, he was...
- 12:17Was he from there? No, he's from California. So is Hollywood from California. Yep. [laughs] Oh, from Cal- yeah. Well, there's also a Hollywood- Wait, what?... in Minneapolis, though.
- 12:28Jay Hollywood Henderson's up there in Minneapolis. Um- There, there is a- No, supposedly, like, you can find this out if you watch the Dirty Knobs podcast- [laughs]... which is Hollywood Mike Miranda's podcast.
- 12:39All right. Knobs. Knobs. Um, supposedly, like- Just rip it off like a Band-Aid... back in the day- Yeah, that's painful. [laughs] Quit fucking around with it...
- 12:45so back in the day, I guess, when he was first racing, you had to wear a long sleeve shirt to race. Right, I remember those days. Yeah. And the only thing his dad had- Well, you don't wanna look scum, you know...
- 12:54was some disco shirt, so he was racing in a disco shirt. Okay. [laughs] And everybody was calling him Hollywood, so it just stuck. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. It happens. You, you don't, you don't get to call yourself Hollywood.
- 13:05No, hell no. Somebody else has to call you Hollywood. Right, right, right. Um, so yeah. Uh- Definitely check out Dirty Knobs podcast. It's really good, actually. The, um, and then the other cool thing, so the guy,
- 13:19I can't remember and you probably do know- Which guy?... uh, the guy who rides for... Does he ride for Coke? Where he's, like, getting the- Jerry? He's getting his si- his cast signed. Yeah. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 13:28Like, like, he had crashed during, like, the filming and stuff. Right. They just, like, gave him a part, you know? Yeah. Well, that's Rick Molternough. Yeah. So- Yeah, that was a good tale...
- 13:36Hollywood Mike Miranda told him the, the whoop-de-doos or whatever were all packed down, and they weren't, and he ended up breaking his fucking foot. [laughs] Mm. Give us... Well, like, a Tony break?
- 13:49'Cause Tony broke his foot at the- That's Rick Molternough. Yeah... at, at Ray's Indoor Mountain Bike Park On standard bikes. That's all. Really? That's Rick Molternough, yeah. I didn't know that. Yeah.
- 13:57Brad, put your, uh, beer in your koozie so we can talk about the koozie real quick. I just wanna get this out of the way, 'cause it's in my notes here. And- Um, our f- our- And beer...
- 14:06our f- friend of the show, Mike McAbee, is a musician. Good guy. And he lives in a small, small, small town, I think it's maybe 80 people, in Iowa, called Franksville, or Frankville. One of the two.
- 14:18It's either got an S or it doesn't. I don't know. It's not on the thing. Frankville. Oh, it's Frankville. It says right on this thing. Right on the thing. Frankville. So it says, "Frankville wet.
- 14:25Keep Frankville wet and lit." I just love the logo and the, and the kind of the, uh, you know, the design of the thing. Dude, melt your, melt your face into a light fixture? Like acid?
- 14:34So basically, the idea is they have to raise, like, a thousand bucks a year to keep the streetlights on and to keep the water flowing, because they need a new filter system [laughs] or whatever it is.
- 14:44And so he was doing a fundraiser online, and I saw it. I'm like, "I need one of those T-shirts." So I ordered a T-shirt. Ooh. And then he sent a couple koozies along with the T-shirt. Nice.
- 14:52And like, uh, but I just- Nice... I like the design, 'cause it's kind of- Does the T-shirt that logo, then? Yes, exactly. That's cool. Yeah, right? So I don't know.
- 14:59You wanna, if you wanna help keep a small town [laughs] in Iowa going, I don't know if he has any more T-shirts, but I'm sure he'll do it next year. I think it was kind of a bunch of... All right, never mind.
- 15:07Hit, hit the thingy while we're at the top of the hill there. [bell ringing] Oh, yeah. That's enough. That's enough. We're... Geez, Tony. [laughs] Wow. Be aggressive on the top of the hill. I'm a percussionist.
- 15:18What do you want? Oh, yeah. [laughs] Yes. More cowbell, apparently. Yeah. [laughs] And that's a not a bad cowbell, either. That thing's got- Yeah, that's really rings out... got a nice tone to it. What's this? Sustain.
- 15:28We can... It's got Schlick Cycles on one side and, uh, Northpaw on the other. We should get some Fatbike.com bells. We got Fatbike.com coasters today. Check those out. I have a Northpaw. Those are sweet.
- 15:40I still have your Northpaw. Yeah. Fatbike.com coasters. Your number... Tony s- Tony has Northpaw number one. Number one. New for dollar. Who know? I, I have your badge. We just have to get it, like, sized- Squished...
- 15:48to the head tube just a little bit. Squished. Or squished, yeah. I think it's squished. Squished. Uh, JK brought Today's beer from the Dogfish Head Craft Brewery somewhere out on the East Coast somewhere.
- 15:59It's, like, Delaware or something like that. Yeah, somewhere like that. It's- Yeah. Delaware or something... always. Do you know that they came out with something called the Hop Cannon? Sure. They brought...
- 16:11So their, their Dogfish Head Ale, their IPAs, they used to offer a filtered connection to their taps where you could put, like, two pounds of fresh hops in, and then you'd- Wow...
- 16:25filter the beer straight through from a keg- Hmm... straight through fresh hops. Huh. Yeah. And then- I think Ron would like to do that. Oh, we should talk to Ron about that. [laughs] Yeah. They're a funky brewery.
- 16:37I mean- Yeah, they are very funky, but that, that was, like, wow. Wow. Oh, there's an interloper. Wow. Interloper. K- interloper Ken just walked in the back, back. Wow. See? There was an ax murderer coming.
- 16:50[laughs] Right? Where's the scream at? It did happen. Shh. Yeah, I, I don't have a, I don't have a camera I can shine on you, Ken, but Ken helped- Scream at us... Ken helped paint the wall there in the other room today.
- 16:59That was very nice of Ken. So we can get the other studio going at some point. Sounds exhausting. And you can all get out of my office here. Yeah. [laughs] Uh, let's l- let's, let's...
- 17:11So we'll g- it, we, we may get back to Rad later, but, um, one- So the beer I brought- Oh, yeah, we were gonna get on that... was- And then Ken interrupted me, so. [laughs] Oh. Grateful Dead. I didn't interrupt you.
- 17:21I didn't see a thing. Well, your, just your presence- These-... interrupts me... Juicy Pale Ale. These six-packs come with a hacky sack? I know. Should, but- It, it, it just, it jumped off.
- 17:32It's like- It's actually real easy drinking... a fresh out of the- That'd be a good gimmick, 'cause- Yeah. It's pretty nice. It's pretty good... hacky sack in every six-pack... 5.3. Yeah. 5.3, pretty lightweight. Yeah.
- 17:40Little spendy, but I got it at- More pale-y than IPA... I got it at the, uh, at the Downer Syndicate. Oh, it's a Juicy Pale. It's not an IPA. Okay. Okay. Good. Good. It's, it tastes d- Well, yeah.
- 17:50It's not, it's not boozy enough to be an IPA. Right. Right. It's not like, um, Daddy Noises next door. That's got a w- way heavier- That's pretty good... yeah, I really like that. Good? That's a very good- Oh, yeah.
- 18:01Dad Issues? Daddy- Well, I recommend you stay away-... Daddy Noises definitely... Daddy Issues. Call me Daddy. Daddy Rancher? Daddy Rancher That is- You know about Daddy, you- Neither- Oh.
- 18:12Is that- Neither, neither way were those things good You top that off with- Yeah, yeah, with the fruit one Yep. Mm-hmm. Well, we kinda were messing around with the name- Kinda like a Jolly Rancher Exactly.
- 18:21The old one was a Jolly Rancher. What is it called? A Daddy Rancher? A Daddy Rancher. Yeah. [laughs] It's just like a mixology thing.
- 18:27Nothing to do with- All right, this has to do with Cory's, uh, Cory's hoodie, Riverwest 24. Yeah. Uh-huh. They are taking still bonus checkpoint suggestions, and you...
- 18:37Are you still the bonus checkpoint m- I'm the bonus checkpoint manager... manager again this year? Oh, yep. So what's the scoop behind the suggesting of the bonus checkpoints? So, um,
- 18:47I, I decided to scale back, uh, from 48 to 36. 48 just became... It became too, too much for the scoring, too hard for organization, whatever. 36 we can do.
- 19:00Um, and so but we anticipate we're still gonna get, you know, 50 to 60 people wanting to do, um, wanting to do bonuses.
- 19:10So we're giving everybody through registration day, which is the first Sunday of May, which is like the f- 4th maybe... 4th, I think. Something like that.
- 19:19And, um, and then myself and, uh, Jeremy Prock are gonna do, like, a drawing to determine who's going to- So it's not merit-based? It's just lottery action? Yeah, merit's gonna be involved some- [laughs]... somehow.
- 19:35Okay. [laughs] Um, you know, we're... We, we've gotta figure out the, the production aspect of it. You know, it's not gonna be... It's gonna be a typical Jeremy-type thing.
- 19:45You know, me and him will put some fun twist onto it- Right on... and, uh, do a live stream probably through the Riverwest 24 website, like, or the Facebook page, rather. And, um, yeah, and we're just gonna...
- 19:57We've got a number of categories, games, uh, art, you know, like, um, educational, activist, other. Sure. You know, that, that kind of thing.
- 20:08And I, I, I have a link to it on the Facebook page, so maybe that'll get you there. That'd be great. But if you got another place to go, let me know what the link is and we'll put it in the show notes. Yeah.
- 20:17If, uh, if you just go to the Riverwest 24 Facebook page, um, you know, there's a bunch of things. If you are looking to do a bonus, it's just bonus@riverwest24.com. Nice.
- 20:27You can just send an email and, uh, and I'll get back to you probably pretty quickly with the same response that everybody else is getting. Yeah. [laughs] The same form response [laughs] basically. Right on.
- 20:38Well, that sounds good. Yeah. So but it's starting to ramp up. It's March, you know? Yeah, for sure. So... And- So that the sign-up day is the 4th of May then? Yep. Yeah, it's the Su- May- The first Sunday...
- 20:49the 4th be with you Yeah. Yeah... at the park and everything? Yep. Okay. Yeah, over at Wutang Park. Cool. Right on.
- 20:55Uh, just not long before that, actually, end of April, eight- 18th and 19th is the, uh, the MMI weekend- Oh, yeah... Milwaukee Messenger Invitational weekend. Oh, cool. That's gonna be fun.
- 21:05Uh, I think next week, hopefully, we're gonna have Brett and Hunter- And Hunter... and/or Hunter on the show. Yeah. One, one, two, or three of those people. Yep. Mr. And/Or, I don't know if he's coming or not.
- 21:15Talk, talking about that. But, uh, There, so the way it's working is Friday night, the night, uh, 18th will be the Green Mile and somewhat of a, kind of a fun- 420... fun ride.
- 21:28420's Easter, so yeah- I know, but you know... you could probably do it on Easter. It's the f- But it's a 420. It's a- It's a g- it's a green ride... it's a rerun of last year's 420 Pretty, it's pretty green.
- 21:35And then, uh, the 19th will be the actual Milwaukee Messenger Invitational, and we had a meeting last night. Eh, whatever. Sunday night? I don't know. Recently. Sunday afternoon- I think we're, we're actually-...
- 21:47after the Chili's... we're actually having another meeting tonight, being Tuesday, not Thursday. After the show, we're meeting over at Amorphic to do a little more- Mm... assigning of tasks.
- 21:57We just kinda brainstormed some ideas, uh, on Sunday. What is that? Is that a race or something? It's a messenger-oriented race. There's different zones and you're staffing- Do you have to like swing a door? Or what?
- 22:05You have to hit places and get signatures and- Swinging door, or what? I don't know that swinging door is on the thing. Oh, okay. There's three zones, um, south, east, and west. Okay.
- 22:14Uh, and then you're, you're getting manifests and you're having to do things and- Right. Right... it's like you're a messenger. You're delivering stuff. Yep. You're doing...
- 22:21You're going there, you're doing that, you're getting your thing checked, you're picking something else up. You have to do a task. You have to grab something from there and bring it... You know. Yeah. Yeah. It's, it's...
- 22:30I, I'm not a messenger, so I don't know the entire... But that's the gist of it. [laughs] Awesome. That's, that's basically what I was explaining. Cool.
- 22:37And I'll know more after the show tonight, because then we'll know more about, uh, who's gotta do what. Is that where the meeting is?
- 22:42I, I'm basically working on personally doing the video photography portion and chasing it around, and there's a couple other people. Ken may help. I don't know. How many, uh, participants- Still don't know...
- 22:52are there usually in that? Well, that's a good question, because I don't think it's happened since 2018 or '19. Okay. Uh, so- Could be three... in the past it was very well-attended. People come from
- 23:03Washington, DC- Sure, they came from overseas... Philadelphia- Wow... Chicago, Minneapolis, and, you know- Yeah, there was one guy that came- So a few hundred people? Yeah. Uh, yeah. Maybe a l- hundred. Okay.
- 23:14Yeah, not thou- Okay... not, not hundreds, but hundred-ish. Okay. Yeah. Cool. If, if, if 40 or 50 show up for this one, because it's kinda the rebooting of it- Right... that would be, that would be fun. Cool.
- 23:25I mean, locally there's plenty of people, too, though, so. Yeah. So the pandemic kinda killed that? Oh, yeah, for sure. Yeah. It, it didn't do it any good, just like it didn't do anything any good. Yeah.
- 23:34Uh, here's something I should probably mention, too. You know that fatbike.com thing with the, with the coasters? See those coasters? That coaster? That's going again. Seelye Dave and I... See that? Nice.
- 23:45Seelye Dave and I are, uh, we're doing, we're doing a lot of stuff, and things are going on.
- 23:49And one thing that we are doing is, uh, putting a group on Facebook that's a subscription thing, so we can hopefully get a few fundages to keep the site going.
- 23:59And the Facebook group is a private thing that will have, uh, like Q&A stuff with, with us and maybe other people that really know what they're doing with the fat bike stuff.
- 24:11So if you wanna join that thing and ask questions, it's gonna be something a little more focused than what you might normally find. Uh, we will have- A lot of,
- 24:22uh, discounts and offers from our, our partners who sponsor the site, product stuff, discounts on that, discounts on fatbike.com merchandise and stuff. Anyway, there's a link in the show notes for that, so...
- 24:35It's like Only Fans for fat bikes. Yeah, kinda. [laughs] Yeah. [laughs] You know, and it, and, and, and- You went there? Yeah. Oh, totally went there. Well, and to be, and to be fair- [laughs]...
- 24:45uh, it, it, it is, uh, it is coming up on beach season, even though I do not recommend you ride your bike with flip-flops on for the de-gloving purposes. The de-gloving of your foot.
- 24:55But the beach is not a bad place to ride a bike, and you can have your toes out there, so the toes knows, and maybe you got a f- Careful with the toes... maybe you have an Only Fan toe page. I don't know.
- 25:03You gotta have a toe shoe. That's right, though. I'm not saying that's a thing, but I'm saying I know somebody that's doing that as a thing. [laughs] Can I get on that? Thanks. I'm squishing- I got nice toes...
- 25:12I'm squishing cupcakes- I have nice toes. I could probably do that... on my tires with my bum. [laughs] That's it. You don't want that on my- Don't want that on my- In collaboration with Tom Green. No, I don't either.
- 25:22[laughs] I have a road bike and, like, five BMX. [laughs] I have eight BMX bikes. That's it. W- and one of 'em... How many of 'em are cruisers? Two of them. This... So Brad- Two of 'em...
- 25:34we, we should have a picture in the show notes, 'cause I finally figured out how to download it so I can put it on there, but it's a- Two new... it's a Supercross, uh- It's a 24... XS 250.
- 25:44So that is a r- but it's a, it's a re, a re, what do I got? A reissue? 33 year radiversary model. R- radiversary model. So it's actually a 2021, '22. Okay.
- 25:57'Cause last year when they did it, they didn't make a 24 inch, so- Gotcha... I wanted a 24 inch. I like 24 inch. Yeah. It was a, it was a good, uh, it was a good one. Yeah.
- 26:07Ray's, Ray's Indoor Mountain Bike Park here had, uh, not only a pump track, which was a blast, but also a pretty decent bowl section, which the cruiser was the perfect bike for. Yeah. For sure.
- 26:18And being a skateboarder, not really a BMXer- Right... I have no problem riding to the end and dropping in with the bike, because- Right... I'm used to dropping in on a skateboard. Yep. So I'm like, "Ah, I can do this."
- 26:28This is- Yep. I'm n- I'm, you know, I'm not doing the full fly out the bowl thing anymore, but- Yeah... yeah, it's, it's cool stuff. [laughs] Uh, unfortunately, Ray's Milwaukee model is no longer here.
- 26:40It's only, it's only in Cleveland, baby. And when did it close? It closed before the pandemic. I don't- I, I don't know... remember exactly when. Shortly after they broke my shit. They broke Tony's shit o-...
- 26:51It was, like, 2015 when Tony broke his shit all up there. Yeah, the one time I went there- So it was like '13 or '14... it was like '14 maybe. It was-... when you broke my five minutes-...
- 26:56it was, it was a long time ago... and I hurt my back and I couldn't ride anymore. That was it. I never got over there. Never went there. It was a lot of fun. There was a lot of good stuff.
- 27:02There's a, there's a skate park seven blocks from my house. Haven't ridden there either, so. Is it, uh, in- The Tosa Village Skate Park. Yeah. Ah. I hear they're building at Red Barn. Phase Two. Yeah. Phase Two.
- 27:13Phase Two Skateboards. Phase Two's great. I go and hang out and talk BS with Mark. Oh, Mark's awesome. I hear they're, uh, doing a pump track in Tosa that has been- No, really?... uh, approved for somewhere.
- 27:24I don't know where- Really?... they're putting it, but somewhere over there. We're planning- I'll have to, I'll have to do a little more investigating on that. Yeah, do some digging on that for me. In the Hoyt? Yeah.
- 27:31In the Hoyt. That'd be awesome. Hoyt, the Hoyt area seems like it would make- The Hoyt area would be awesome...
- 27:34a lot of sense because, like, that back trail, the, the quote unquote Baja Trail, uh- That'd be a fun pump track... it's pretty good, but there's always a lot of glass back there. I've never ridden a pump track.
- 27:43However- Pump track... we're planning on getting-... uh, beer bottles are phasing themselves out, [laughs] so glass is also phasing itself out. But w- while that phases out, the coyotes phase in, so- Oh.
- 27:54As in actual coyotes? Yeah. I like coyotes. Yeah. They walk down my street every now and again. They were here first. Well, they're not so friendly to- towards Beaker. Well, that's not huh. Oh, yeah.
- 28:04So I, I- He's inside... I don't take, [laughs] I don't take my Shih Tzu down, down through the, the river trail so much anymore. [laughs] Oh, boy. Boys. Hey, here's- Wise idea...
- 28:14here's something not so great about our local neighborhood where the shop is here, uh, and the, uh, studio. Another, another stolen e-cargo bike. Which one now? It, it's an orange Rad... It was right by your house.
- 28:25Oh, yeah. Dun, dun, dun. Block or two from your house. So we have to put the thing that we got in your, in your concrete and, and then use it as a decoy. Bait. Bait. Bait. You want me to use- But it-...
- 28:38my fancy ass cargo bike as bait- Well, you can-... bike? You'll be locking it with two locks that if they get through it, I would give them a lollipop because- Wow...
- 28:46these things are gonna take 20 minutes to get through both of them. And- [laughs] Give them a lollipop...
- 28:49if somebody's in your backyard with an angle grinder for 20 minutes- There's no way anyone will be in my backyard... you better be leaning out the window with- Yeah, right.
- 28:55[laughs] I would use a bow from the, from the upper deck. I, I don't think I'd go with a gun. I'd just use a bow. Fair enough. If they're gonna be right down there, it's only, like, 15 yards away.
- 29:04[laughs] I have a mask and my nunchucks. Silenced, silenced. I'm gonna, I'm gonna use a camera- So where was this bike park?... and call the police. Where was this bike park?
- 29:12Uh, somewhere right on the Center and Booth area. Oh. I don't know the exact spot, but it's- Yeah, it's the hot spot... it's just another one because I think our- It's another e-cargo bike?
- 29:21Yeah, it's the long orange Rad Power one. It's a nice one. It might look kinda like yours, only orange. That was on Booth? Booth and whatever. It w- read the thing.
- 29:30Oh, that one, uh, I, I guess I would- Link in the show notes... I don't know about it. I thought you're an M-K-E-B-K-E guy. Mm-hmm. That'd be the Facebooks and fuck that shit. Oh, yeah. I mean, yeah.
- 29:41I quit Facebook, too. It was great. Yeah. I wish we could. It's been a great few months. My mom's on Facebook. I'm not gonna quit. [laughs] What with the, uh, what with the 38- Shouldn't be...
- 29:49thousand Facebook likes for fatbike.com, it's... And, and we just got it back because it was kind of being held in, in, uh- You, you were being held captive? It was being held captive. I don't know.
- 30:00Somehow we got it back. I'm not sure if somebody came to their senses or Facebook finally listened to all the shit I've been sending them, like, "This is mine. I started it in 2000. Mine, mine, mine, mine, mine." Mine!
- 30:11We want it back and we want it under- Nine times. [laughs] We want it back under our umbrella, so can you make that happen, please? Thank you, and have a nice day. Uh, all right I look forward to your positive response.
- 30:23Yes [laughs] And somehow we positively responded. I did, I did say, "Thanks, Gomez." I'm not 100% sure that it's 'cause he did it or not, but neither here nor there, we got it back, and I feel good about it.
- 30:35Hither to yon. So, uh, Corey and/or Brad, uh, we're getting ready to wrap the show up. Anything you wanna talk about before we get, uh, hijacked out of here? Entertainment, man. Shut up, you. Yeah, we didn't ask you.
- 30:49[laughs] Uh, Brad, if you got something to say, I'll- Maxino Zito be here... maybe I can play off of what... I mean- Yeah, I don't know... you might have. Um, I don't know. I've seen Rad- He is here...
- 30:57like hundreds of times. Pretty much the movie that made me- [clears throat]... wanna be a F- BMX freestyler. The same. Although, you- I mean, I was, I was jabbing in, in BMX, like- Yeah...
- 31:10late '70s, early '80s, with my banana seat bike. Yeah. You know? Banana. Pretty much the- Banana bike... first year or so that I could ride a bike, I was jumping it, dude, you know? Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Oh, for sure.
- 31:22And you- Fuck yeah, man... throw... Yeah, you find some scrap wood and just- And, uh, Radical Rick and fucking- Yeah... BMX Plus. Yeah, yeah. Stu Thomsen and Crazy Harry Leary, and all those guys. Yep. Yeah, it is.
- 31:34Awesome. I mean, it- My first heroes, dude. Yeah. It is probably the most influential BMX film of all time. [laughs] Oh. What was- Definitely, man...
- 31:42okay, so what was the one which I just watched in here not that long ago, 'cause it's on, I dunno, Netflix or- BMX Bandits. Yeah. The one from Australia. There's, there's basically two. Yeah.
- 31:49There's BMX Bandits- It's Australia... I just gave you the slit eyes. Yeah. With what's her face, the, the blonde girl that's in it that's not Nicole Kidman. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Nicole Kidman. Nicole Kidman. Yeah.
- 31:58Uh- That w- that was... I mean, it wasn't- Was she Australian too? It's an Australian film, actually. It's an Australian movie, so yeah. She's Australian, right? She's Australian. There is an incre- She's Australian.
- 32:06Like the- And then, "Somebody stole my push bike. I want it back." The closing credits to, to BMX Bandits is an incredible, like, new wave song. Huh. That- Really? Yeah. It's, it- What is it?
- 32:16I, I don't know what it's called. Oh. I will, uh, send you the link, but- Huh... I should probably just buy it as, like, a seven-inch. It's like a $40 seven-inch or something. [laughs] Oh. But it's fucking amazing.
- 32:26It's so good. Um, but it talks about, like, Mongoose bikes and stuff. Nice, nice. It's really great. Yeah. That's dope. Yeah. It, it was interesting in the... I don't know if it was in the documentary.
- 32:36It must have been, because they were talking about some w- the two songs in Rad. One of them became p- popular, and one of them didn't. So the dance scene one, I don't think...
- 32:45Was, was that the one that became- Send Me An Angel? Yes. Real Life, Send Me An Angel is huge. Send me an angel. Right. But there was another song that was in the movie. God, baby, Baby Got Back... Or not Baby Got Back.
- 32:53[laughs] Also popular. Um- Baby Come Back... Come Back. Baby Come Back. That was originally written by The Equals, who are an incredible- Oh... band that you should check out. Any kind of fool could see.
- 33:03Um, and then, but when, when 20 Inches of Terror- I have always loved you... like, our rally was just, like, Thunder In Your Heart. We were like, every time we were, "Thunder in your heart. Go, go, go."
- 33:11Dude, that movie- And like-... has been in many movies now, dude. Yeah. 20 Inches of Terror was a- That song. Yeah. Yeah... that was a River West 2014, right? Turbo Kid? Yeah. Yeah, we podiumed. Turbo Kid, dude?
- 33:20Was that, was Bob on the team, or was he kicked off the team, or? No, Bob was invited onto the first year until he was told he had to wear a helmet, and then he quit. Uh, he never made it...
- 33:29He never got to the, the actual team itself. Oh, okay. But he was all in until, until somebody yelled at him that he was gonna have to wear a helmet.
- 33:36'Cause I guess the, year one he was riding and he was just like, "Fuck you, I don't ride a helmet," you know. And, and then they were like, "Well, then you can't race." And then- [laughs]...
- 33:45I guess he would, like, ride by and he'd just give everybody the finger, and then- Oh, yeah. Yeah. [laughs] And he was like, "I'm gonna ride around the trail and throw tacks down, and, like, throw broken glass down."
- 33:55I'm gonna ride that- That's Gorgeous Mike, right? What? Handsome Bob, you... Gorgeous Bob. Handsome Bob, dammit. Going back, way back in our podcast with Gomez.
- 34:04[laughs] I'm almost certain at one point I tried to recruit Brad to do it. Auto race? 20 Inches of Terror. Yeah, to be part of the 20 Inches of Terror. Yeah. I had, I- I probably was like, "I ride freestyle, dude.
- 34:14I don't- Yeah... ride long distance." [laughs] Yeah. That's, that's pretty much what you did. Yeah. And, and- And I tried to get Tim Noel... you know, once I did do it, I've done it like- Yeah...
- 34:22a handful of times now over the years. Yeah. Every time I'm like, "Why am I doing this, man?" Yeah, yeah. [laughs] I'm hungover as... Yeah. [laughs] And I say beep. Yeah. Yeah. And- You can say fuck...
- 34:34why am I going up this hill, dude? Yeah. This hill sucks. [laughs] I had, uh- And I would never use my own bike. Yeah. I've never used my own bike for Rad, or for the- Right... race- Yeah... for the 24.
- 34:45I tried to get Tim Noel. Never had my own bike. Tim Noel. [laughs] Yeah. And- No, Tim Noel does not wanna race laps... he's a freestyler too, man. He was a freestyler too.
- 34:51But I wanted, like, like just, like, pure, like, you know, BMX 20-inch guys. Yeah, just cherry, like, cherry picking all the way. [laughs] I wanted, you know- Four hours to do a lap.
- 35:00Yeah, 'cause he would do it like- You know, he'd be like... Yeah, he'd do it, like, on one wheel, like- That would be great... doing, like, cherry picks.
- 35:07[laughs] The first year- Yeah, he would, like, cherry pick the whole way. Zing, zing, zing, zing, zing. The first year Tim Noel- Zing, zing, zing... riding backwards. So we do a lap, or two, like now every year. Yeah.
- 35:17And I have a '82 Kuhara ET bike. Allison rides it. Cool. And I have a ET that's about this big. Mm-hmm. [laughs] She puts it in a basket. That's great. That's like our new tradition. That's great.
- 35:27She puts it in the basket. Yep. That's super fun. So- I still wanna b- build, uh... I have- Oh, no. I have the frame that would match, like, the Cru Jones bike.
- 35:38And at one point I had all, like, the, basically the factory parts. I have that bike. And, uh, I scratched everything out and when I, like, built, built it up.
- 35:46So I still have the frame, but at one point it'd be awesome to, like, rebuild that bike. Oh, hell yeah. Um, you know, and just, like, have that. But I don't know what I would do with it. What year is it?
- 35:54It's an '85, which I would imagine that- Oh, hell yeah, dude... if, if it... That's when the film happened. Hey, man, Cru was poor. Rad. Yeah. He didn't have a '86. No. Yeah, but Eddie did. He probably had an '84 or '85.
- 36:05Yeah. Okay. So I got a good story about that. So last year when we went to the Buckeye Show, we did a ride-out with Eddie Fiola and Mike Miranda.
- 36:14And Allison rode my Rad bike, and Eddie Fiola and Mike Miranda were so stoked on that bike, dude. Yeah, you think they were stoked on the bike? The original- Yeah. Nice. Yeah. They were out.
- 36:26Not the, not the rider so much? [laughs] The original is at the bike museum in Pittsburgh.
- 36:31The guy was like, when he saw me, like, freaking out about it, he actually let me, like, like, go up and, like, sit on it and, like- Oh my God...
- 36:38and whatever, 'cause he was like, "Normally people don't do this, but you're pretty stoked and I can tell that you're not gonna ruin it." Amateur. See what I can do. Amateur. [laughs] I put mine on silent. Right on.
- 36:48Did you fart? No. [laughs] You should have farted on the seat. [laughs] Stop. Season that small pit. Brad, are, are you putting up your BMX stuff you're doing, like your... When you're doing weekend freestyle stuff?
- 37:00Is that... Are you doing that on Facebook, or are you just- Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, yeah. Right on. Blue Sky. What's- Don't ask me what that is right now, 'cause I- No, send it to me, though.
- 37:08We'll put it in the f- we'll put it on, on Facebook. You have a, you have a YouTube video? Oh, I- Or a YouTube channel, rather? Yeah. I have 380 followers or subscribers or whatever the hell it's called. Cool.
- 37:17Well- Right on. Well, let's get you some more then... count me for one more. Yeah, right. All right. Yeah. Thanks.
- 37:20You can watch my B- and then you can add me on your baseball card- I'll send you one of my videos when we, when I get home... my baseball card channel with, like, 150 subscribers. [laughs] Oh, okay. Yeah. Well- Yeah.
- 37:29I might already subscribe to you. I don't know. All right, everybody. Well, thanks Brad and Cory. Thanks for having us. Cheers. It's great to be back. And of course, of course, JK and Tony. Brad.
- 37:38Uh, you guys are welcome back anytime. Belch. Yeah, we'll... I'll be back in- Someone fucking belched. That was terrible... spring or summer. Yeah, we'll talk a little before- When we get close to the 24...
- 37:46let's talk before the 24. Yeah. All right, everybody, m- we're, we're gonna get out of here now. Thank you everybody. Yeah. [outro music] Bolt.
- 37:55[outro music]
