- 0:01Speaker 1: When, of course, regarding your latest project, Let Go, how
- 0:04Speaker 1: did this book come to be? Well, you know, I've
- 0:06Speaker 1: had such a passion to really talk to people about forgiveness.
- 0:09Speaker 1: So many people struggle to receive it. They also struggle
- 0:13Speaker 1: to give it, and sometimes they struggle to forgive themselves.
- 0:16Speaker 1: And God just gave me so much revelation about how
- 0:19Speaker 1: we got in that condition and how we can get
- 0:21Speaker 1: out of it. The book is called let It Go,
- 0:22Speaker 1: and it's just an amazing opportunity to have a conversation
- 0:26Speaker 1: with the forgiven who sometimes don't know how to forgive.
- 0:31Speaker 1: In writing this book, what did you learn in the
- 0:33Speaker 1: process of writing this book in terms of the area
- 0:35Speaker 1: of forgiven? You know, you know, it was really it
- 0:38Speaker 1: was really challenging because when you start writing about forgiveness,
- 0:41Speaker 1: you search your own life and your own attitude and
- 0:43Speaker 1: how you see and how you feel about people. So
- 0:45Speaker 1: with an opportunity to make sure that my heart was
- 0:48Speaker 1: where it's needed to be and where I had handled
- 0:51Speaker 1: my altercations appropriately. The other thing that was really amazing
- 0:54Speaker 1: to me as I began to look at how we
- 0:57Speaker 1: developed patterns of unforgiveness, I begin to find certain tendencies
- 1:02Speaker 1: who run through families, and it's kind of different from
- 1:06Speaker 1: generational curses. This is a learned behavior. It's a culture
- 1:10Speaker 1: that exists in certain families that pass itself from generation
- 1:13Speaker 1: to generation. And how we handle conflict, you know, whether
- 1:17Speaker 1: we forgive or whether we hold on. The things are
- 1:20Speaker 1: learned behaviors that are taught to us. And if it
- 1:23Speaker 1: is if it is learned, it can also be unlearned.
- 1:26Speaker 1: Why is it important that we forgive? It is critical
- 1:30Speaker 1: that we forgive. First of all, we're commanded in scriptures
- 1:32Speaker 1: to forgive. Secondly, we pray Lord forgive us of our trespasses,
- 1:37Speaker 1: as we forgive those who trespass against us, which I
- 1:39Speaker 1: believe is the most dangerous phrase in the whole Bible,
- 1:42Speaker 1: because if you don't forgive people, you're askually God, don't
- 1:44Speaker 1: forgive me and treat me like I treat them. And
- 1:47Speaker 1: so I'm not saying that we should avoid the phrase.
- 1:49Speaker 1: I'm saying that we should live our highest and best self.
- 1:53Speaker 1: But the third reason that I think is so profound
- 1:56Speaker 1: is that unforgiveness is robbing you of energy. Taking passion
- 2:01Speaker 1: to keep that hostility and that anger alive is robbing
- 2:04Speaker 1: you of energy and creativity that could be redirected to
- 2:08Speaker 1: help move you further along. Final question, Bishop, what is
- 2:11Speaker 1: the one thing you would hope readers would take away
- 2:13Speaker 1: from Hope Let It Go? I think that if they
- 2:15Speaker 1: really embrace let It Go, that they will begin to
- 2:18Speaker 1: find that they need all of their energy and all
- 2:20Speaker 1: of their strift to live out their dreams and their passions.
- 2:23Speaker 1: That when you hold on to unforgiveness, you are still
- 2:26Speaker 1: tied to the events of the past. And to me,
- 2:29Speaker 1: the strongest, one of the strongest statements in the whole
- 2:31Speaker 1: book is forgiveness is not about the guilt of the perpetrator.
- 2:36Speaker 1: It does not absolve you of your responsibilities and your issues.
- 2:41Speaker 1: It is more about the forgiver. What I'm saying is
- 2:45Speaker 1: forgiveness is a gift you give yourself. It's not about
- 2:50Speaker 1: letting somebody get away with something. It's not about weakness,
- 2:53Speaker 1: it's about strength. It's about giving yourself the permission to
- 2:59Speaker 1: move forward your life. And as we go into a
- 3:01Speaker 1: new year, I think that this is a paramount message
- 3:04Speaker 1: for us to begin to talk about, how can we
- 3:07Speaker 1: embrace twenty twelve if we're still holding on to twenty
- 3:10Speaker 1: eleven and twenty ten In two thousand and nine Let
- 3:13Speaker 1: It Go, and showing people how to release their past
- 3:16Speaker 1: so they can live in their future.
