- speaker-0: Yeah. This week on Full Credit to the Noise, the band delivers a classic, while Madrid cures insomnia and Marc Marquez does the impossible. Welcome to Full Credit to the Noise. Well, hello, good morning, good afternoon, good evening, and welcome to Full Credit to the Noise. You can find this podcast on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook at FCTTN Podcast. You can find me on Instagram, Twitter, Blue Sky, and Facebook at Former underscore legend. You can find the bloke across me on Twitter at AVL underscore motorsport. He's on Instagram at AVL dot motorsport. He's a man who this week has been asked to never give his opinion on how deep a puddle is. He still holds the record for the most appearances on the Jerry Springer show. And tonight he's wearing a new pair of glasses from the new. Elton John Range, welcome to Speed Cafes, Andrew Van Lewen. speaker-1: Thank you, Former. A nice little Easter egg for listeners f of the daily podcast that we do out of each Supercar's ⁓ race weekend and of course the Sunday night podcast from the bend. ⁓ I tell you what, when I did post video evidence of the fact that the puddle was maybe closer to ankle height than knee height, didn't some of our listeners let me know on social media? I heard all about it. Don't you worry. speaker-0: There's a black that keeps trying to convince people that that is six inches. speaker-1: Exactly. Exactly. Anyway. speaker-0: ⁓ geeze when you were talking about it, I thought, Geez, that sounds bad. I wonder how the water didn't lap into the door at least. speaker-1: It was a it was just up it was a I don't know what profile ties are on Stefan's car, but it was just up to sort of the bottom of the rim. But it was like a dirt car park. So ⁓ I did the I did the right thing as as the ⁓ the senior editorial person. I took my shoes off and waded through the mud, drove the car out so ⁓ Stefan could keep his shoes nice and clean. speaker-0: Yeah. The only play that that was knee height to was Lieutenant Dan. So let's talk about the airbend four eighty at the touch or the air touch four eighty at the bend, whatever you want to say. ⁓ good race. A actually I'll correct myself. Cracking race in my opinion. ⁓ let's start about on b on the track. It was pole to Brody in the shootout, which was DJR's first pole in a five hundred kilometer race for thirty years, AVL. It was a forward lockout ahead of ⁓ Matt Payne. Cameron Warders, Thomas Randall, and then the first Chev Anton B. Pasquale. There were four Chefs in the top ten, six Mustangs, and no Toyotas. And at that stage, I'd written the Toyota's off, I'm not gonna lie. ⁓ but in the race, Chaz Mostett and Fabian Coulthardt scored the win ahead of Kai Allen and Tim Slade with the second walk and short Toyota of Ryan Wood and Jackson Evans getting third. But I don't know how you summarise this race, ⁓ Avial. S if there was so much that happened, it's It started in the rain, it finished in sunshine, there were cars going off, ⁓ overtaking was off the Richter scale, and in the end almost every car I reckon had at least one crazy story attached to it, and that's about as best I can do. speaker-1: Yeah, that that's a pretty good description to be perfectly honest. I mean, the the kind of overview of it is that yeah, we had these really wet conditions at the start of the race. They became it became even wetter as the race sort of wore on. And then by the time we rolled around to the ⁓ primary drivers getting in the cars, it dried up and we had a dry finish. But it was all about firstly minimizing mistakes. As you said, there was just so many cars that were off the track at some point, and minimizing mistakes is something that The both the Walking Shaw Toyotas did really well. ⁓ can't well actually no, you can definitely say the same about the Kai Allen and Tim Slade car because Tim Slade's save on the front straight on the restart when it Accleplane was one of the great mistake minimalization efforts you'll ever see in your whole entire life. That was something quite incredible. But really for the for the two Toyotas that come from outside the top ten and end up first and third, the two Walking Shaw Toyotas, I should say. It was about the co-drivers doing an absolutely fantastic job in those wet conditions to the point where they did deviate on strategy a little bit and leave Jackson Evans in Ryan Wood's car because they felt he was just doing such a good job that they had the freedom to do so. And they they just generally did nail the strategy. They stopped to put fuel in ⁓ during the co-driver stint at a time where others didn't. To try and give themselves a bit of a fuel advantage and eventually, and that meant seeding a bit of track position, but they just played it perfectly. And then when conditions dried out, they had the speed to stay there. They had the track position, and they came away with a first and a third, which was a hugely impressive ⁓ result. When you really think about the fact that this is Toyota's first year in the championship, ⁓ there was all this talk about reliability, engine reliability going into the event, and Yeah, what a what a stunning outcome from a from a thrilling race. speaker-0: Yeah, I I pretty much agree, mate. Like I said, we could sit here and wax lyrical about the entire race because there was so much going on, but ultimately, yeah. ⁓ Walk and Shaws popped their head up at the right time and then just went away with it. I mean, the last stint that ⁓ Chaz put in, not many people would have noticed, but mate, he just kept gaining and gaining and gaining. He went away from the field. So yeah. It's not like it was just a f a win that they just fell into. It was a win that was ultimately deserved. So I speaker-1: And and that's just the sort of execution you ⁓ expect from Chaz Moskad once he's in that winning position. But it was set up by the fact that Fabian Coulthard and Jackson Evans did a fantastic job and really just kept the thing on the island, made sure that they made all the right progress, got good track position, and again, like I said, just gave the team an enormous amount of freedom with their strategy by being fast enough. That it didn't even matter when they left Jackson out there to to fend for himself against a bunch of primary drivers because he was up to the task of of doing it. So, and so you know, you pair that with the fact that they did get the strategy right and there they are. And that is what is fun about these longer distance races is that you can take factors like that, like individual driver brilliance and fantastic team strategy, and come from nowhere, basically, and walk away with. A whole bunch of trophies. speaker-0: Yeah. ⁓ let's do Champagne and Shizen. ⁓ 'cause we'll go back to the supercars, but I want to start with Aussie racing cars and in one bloke in particular, because the Aussie racing cars turned on again, just absolute great racing all weekend. But well done pat in particular to teenager Matthew Basso, who was too young to race at the start of this year, AVL. But he's just won his first ever round. It was at the bend, it was on the weekend, and he came away with two race wins. But you do a bit of background looking into Matthew. And mate, this kid has ability in carts. Everything he's done, he's won in, and he might be one to keep an eye on. So Matthew Basso, congratulations. And Aussie racing cars, because maybe they've much like ⁓ the back end of the supercar race, they've cleared through the storm and they're actually starting to look pretty good on paper. So congratulations to those guys. ⁓ my next one it goes to three people, and it's purely off the super ⁓ sorry, off the shootout. Well making the shootout. And that's Zach Bates, Job Stewart, and Jaden O'Jada. I mean, like I said, they all made the s ⁓ shootout on Saturday ahead of much more credentialed Chev runners. Ojada backed it up in the race with his co driver, the Love Muscle. He grabbed fifth place in the end. ⁓ Bates and Seaton slid literally back to thirteenth and Job Stewart and Jared Hugh were sixteenth. But I'll tell you what, they are up and about for a while in that race as well, especially Jared Hughes was an absolute star ⁓ in the wet. So Yeah. Well done, so all that's gone. speaker-1: One of the real stars of the race, to be honest, and the fact that they slipped back to the field so far was mostly because they'd kind of boxed themselves in on fuel strategy that they had to pit too early for the slicks. ⁓ and the primaries had to jump in the cars just a little bit too early. ⁓ to the absolute delight of everyone else on the field because they became the guinea pigs and everyone just sat there waiting for their lap times to get quicker and quicker and quicker and they went, Right, there's the crossover point and everyone else benef benefited from it. But ⁓ Yeah, I mean, ⁓ Jerry Hughes, like that was an immense drive. Probably one of the drives of the entire race to be honest. speaker-0: Yeah, I agree. ⁓ my next champagne goes to the Transams. What once again, much like the Aussie race cars, I love watching these things. It was built in racing, as usual, from this mob. Todd Hazelwood and James Moffat clashed on the final lap of Saturday's Transam race, ⁓ ultimately putting Todd into the infield and Moffat ⁓ losing a couple of spots after the race. ⁓ It was the third time as many rounds of those two have come together, and we'll talk about them a little bit later. But the racing over the weekend was intense. It was loose, it was entertaining. I wish they had have got the wet, that would have even been greater. ⁓ but it proved that I reckon in my mind they're the best category to watch in Australia right now. speaker-1: Yeah, I didn't see a whole heap of support racing across the board, but I did see the Moff and Hazelwood clash. ⁓ and that was a very spectacular end to the race. I think Moff was stripped of the win. speaker-0: Yeah he was. speaker-1: ⁓ I won't well, I won't say unfortunately, because that's it's race controls decision, all that sort of stuff. And I I ⁓ actually watching it, I wasn't too sure whether he really deserved that, but I did have it have it explained to me or have the whole incident explained to me by someone who knows a bit about that sort of stuff and could maybe see the point where, you know, his defense had crossed the line a little bit, but yeah, you're right. We'll get onto that little rivalry later. But it's a whole bunch of fun and it just adds to the the the entertainment around that category. Absolutely. And it's a perfect fit for that category as well. speaker-0: Yep. ⁓ my final champagne is to anyone or whoever I should say decided to the West Circuit would be used. That and whoever ordered the weather because it's easily the best configuration out there. I'll actually go as far to say I really, really enjoyed that that actual configuration on the weekend. It gave us a couple of corners that had some ⁓ consequences if he got it wrong. It was easier to identify where they were on the track, and then the rain came and it just basically assured all of us of an absolute classic. ⁓ for the supercars. I reckon no one would have been cheering any harder for the rain than the supercars themselves who were juggling this parody shit fight and nothing smothers a parody imbalance like a good old rainstorm, maybe or. speaker-1: Yeah, that's definitely true. You could point back to Bathis last year for that exact ⁓ to to make that point. But it is it would have been interesting in a way, nowhere near as interesting as what we did see, but how the race would have been in the drive. But my gut feel is that it would have been a better race than twenty twenty five anyway. Just because I think the circuit I agree, I think the move to that circuit was a very good move. speaker-0: Yeah. let's go to Shizen for the weekend. I don't know if you heard about this, but apparently a bloke was struck by lightning. ⁓ the news reports that a spectator was discharged from hospital after suffering an arm injury in a suspected lightning strike. ⁓ at the Bend, the Benz medical team responded rapidly with multiple paramedics attending. He was taken to the Benz on site medical center, where he was assessed by a specialist doctor and at the medical team before being transferred to hospital. The man who only wants to be identified by his first name of Robbie For the love of God over you, please tell me your surname is McQueen. ⁓ said he was walking over the bridge when he felt like he'd been zapped. speaker-1: Yeah, obviously pretty frightening stuff for ⁓ for Robbie if it did indeed play out as he explained. There was definitely some lightning about. I don't remember it feeling that close to the circuit, but I do from memory think they were pulling some people out of, you know, ⁓ cherry pickers for T V cameras and scaffolding and and that sort of stuff. So ⁓ there was definitely a bit going on. But ⁓ Robbie's been promised a free ticket to the Ben next year for his troubles. And I reckon he'll be checking the weather forecast pretty closely before he decides whether to ⁓ take up that very generous offer. speaker-0: Mission complete, Robbie, well done. ⁓ parody. Let's talk about parody. Because going into this it was the main topic of conversation. The Camaros received a new front splitter. However, by practice five on Saturday, the Camaros had an adjustment to the rear wing and an indication that maybe the changes are gone too far or perhaps weren't within Supercar's own guidelines. Although General Motors Supercar's boss Simon McNamara expressed his disappointment, labelling the readjustment as short sighted and an emotional decision. McNamara denied then ⁓ that GM had threatened to quit the sport if they'd not received a parody ⁓ adjustment ahead of the weekend. Then you guys from SpeakAf A revealed Supercar's decision to clip the Chevrolet Camaro's wings at the Bend mid mid-meeting came after it received a flurry of contract dispute letters from Ford teams who have pointed out that the changes to parity were not legal. And then today, there's ten cars undergoing centre of gravity testing in Melbourne. ⁓ Fair income. The hits keep on coming with this. There's still been no bar barometric testing as requested by Ford two years ago, with Bathis once again approaching AVL, so it's not the last we're gonna hear of this. speaker-1: No, it's probably not the last we're gonna hear about it in a a whole bunch of ways. The the center of gravity testing is a good thing. ⁓ that's something that that I I think that Toyota in particular has been pushing for, for a bit more comprehensive center of gravity testing. So that ⁓ that did kick off today. But this all this other stuff in terms of coming in to the weekend with the adjustment to the front splitter to the Camaro and then making a mid weekend. change again to to that rear wing. ⁓ it was a mess. And and in the eyes of some very influential and experienced people, the messiest it's been throughout this whole Gen 3 parody saga and potentially a turning point for the sport as a whole. So look my read on it is that it was a risky move from Supercars to try and introduce a change to to the Camaro that we do understand put it slightly outside of the agreed parody box that was agreed to after the the wind tunnel testing in the US at the start of speaker-0: When you say a parody box, which is something I've heard tossed around, what is what do you mean by parody box? speaker-1: Well, it's a set of parameters based on a whole bunch of things. Like it's just an easy way to describe. Here is a here's a set of parameters drawn into a box and your car has to based on, you know, it'll be down force and drag and this and that and a whole bunch of things, it has to fit inside this box if you had each of the sides of the boxes ⁓ representative of of these different pillars of of aero parity. So ⁓ at the same time, Ford was granted a change before this same race last year. speaker-0: Gotcha. speaker-1: ⁓ and that kinda happened before we had this picture of this parody box. Not that we outside of the technical department at Supercars have a a great understanding of how the parody box looked, but there were certainly people on the GM side that were talking about how they'd love to go back in time and see if there had been a box this time last year, where with that change of sat and you know, history kind of shows how fast the Mustang was at the back end of the twenty twenty five season. So Anyway, ha the way it played out, it did leave supercars exposed by the legalities of its own rules and its own contracts with the teams. The Ford teams got legal and the legal strong arming worked and supercars folded. And it was because of the well it was that that made the change, right? Well that prompted the change. It wasn't supercars tried to use the excuse that the Saturday change was a response to data from practice. And that didn't really hold a lot of water given You know, there were three practice sessions. There's a whole lot of inconsistencies in practice sessions with run plans and there was a co-driver only session and all this other stuff. So it's hard to look past the fact that the change was made because of the legal threats from the Ford teams. And that left a lot of people outside of the Ford camp and potentially inside it as well, to be honest, uncomfortable because the sport should never be about who can pay the best lawyers. And it did have that kind of feel about it. So It was messy from top to bottom from the from the moment the first decision was made to the point where obviously that decision wasn't reversed, but another decision was made to try and offset it a little bit. It was just a complete mess. ⁓ but I just feel like we're on this hamster wheel of chasing an impossible of like three different body shapes and engines and trying to make them identical in every single way. I just don't see it ever happening. And it's that's kind of the depressing part in a way. You just think we're like speaker-0: ⁓ yeah. speaker-1: When and where and how does it actually stop? speaker-0: Mm-hmm The problem is too is that you might get it right for the band. It might be everything might be perfect. But then you might go to Bathurst and you can throw that all out the window. The quality then i departs the scene. Because it could be very much track specific. But ⁓ what I was told this weekend was that Ford had asked for what figures they'd used to make these changes. And supercast couldn't give them to them. And that's where Ford sort of bit down and said, Enough's enough. speaker-1: Well, I think that's an oversimplification. I think the figures were the problem to some extent. ⁓ but again, it's just yeah, like I say, it was just a it was just a mess. And it will be a mess again. ⁓ there'll be more of this going on. And ⁓ yeah, it was there there was kind of a a a tense or even sort of defeated mood in the paddock by Saturday morning over the fact of how this whole thing had played out. So and we haven't even got on to the bit where Toyota would like some changes as well. So so we haven't even got into that, and then we haven't got into the barometric stuff, and we'll see what comes out of the center of gravity testing and all this sort of stuff. So ⁓ yeah, there's still it's when I say a a lot to play out, I just don't feel like it's ever gonna end, which is just a slightly depressing feeling. speaker-0: Just like no? Can I just say that before Bathurst, if someone needs someone to do a run to Detroit to pick up some crankshafts, I am very happy to run the gauntlet and go over and grab them and bring them back before Bathurst. So if anyone does need that job done again, I'm happy to do it. ⁓ the next shizen is the crowd. Now look, I want to say this with a caveat, because ultimately, ⁓ who would have known prior to this event? But that race deserved a great crowd, AVL. I know it was raining, I know all that. But ultimately, it it it really was such a great race. It was such a shame that it looked like it was run in a paddock. And that may be just the setting. It looks like that all the time there. But unfortunately, and it's probably got a lot to do with the way the the track spread out and the crowd looked pretty paltry. It was a three day crowd of forty two thousand, a drop of over four and a half from last year. But I I'm not sure I noticed that Stefan said maybe the weather had th something to do with it. I I'm not sure because the weather pr predictions were grossly understated compared to what you got there. speaker-1: Yeah, like you can't argue that it was a bump of crowd 'cause it wasn't, but I think it truly is a it is what it is scenario. Like I don't necessarily know what else can kind of be done. I think there is just a limit on the crowd that you're gonna draw at that venue because of where it is. So it was it it wasn't surprising. It was about what you would expect. speaker-0: Yeah. speaker-1: To be honest. speaker-0: Yeah, if you look at the crowd over the last five or six years for that place, it's been around those numbers anyway. I mean, yeah, give or take, they're the sort of numbers they that they do get. So like you say, due to geography, if nothing else, it feels like that that's w that's whereabouts you're gonna be. Yeah. ⁓ my final shizen is the time finish, which I know y you'll argue against, but also the ⁓ BRT double D S Q disqualification, Blanchard Racing got Delta brutal. post race below as both of its cars were disqualified with the James Golding Ritchie Stanaway Mustang and the sister car of Aaron Cameron and Zach Bess failing to meet the minimum required drive time for their drivers. Now, look, because they're the only team that they did come across this issue, then it's probably easy to give them a disqualified. But I feel like given that it was time shortened, that they are a bit stiff. speaker-1: ⁓ not even remotely. Th this is a completely self inflicted issue. So all teams have software that calculates this. Like this is not a new thing that calculates ⁓ what the lap speed is and what the predicted lap they're gonna get to is and ensures that they can then calculate what the minimum driver times are. And their software just had them a few laps out and they just got it wrong. So this This is yeah, I d I don't know, but this was a This was a sell because it's not just about driver time. Teams use this for everything about fuel fill time and all that sort of stuff. Like they have a good handle. They know exactly where what the time certain finish ⁓ cutoff is. ⁓ and they have a good read on what the current lap speed is and they work everything out around their strategy, around what what point they think the race is going to get to once they realize it's not going to go to its full distance. So, Super disappointing for the team, no doubt about it. But even they were making no bones about the fact that this was a self-inflicted issue. It wasn't like they didn't get caught out by the time certain finish. It's in the supplementary regulations. Everyone knew exactly what time that race was gonna finish. So it's not there's no hard done by here. It was a it was a miscalculation on the team's behalf and and they wore that to to their absolute credit. speaker-0: Yeah. I get it. Yeah, I wouldn't have. I would have carried on like a real pork chop. But anyway. ⁓ let's go to the shift cut because we're gonna talk about a very poor Formula One race and some more supercar news. Yeah. ⁓ let's talk about the Spanish Grand Prix at Madring. Madring Madringa. I don't know how you pronounce it, but ⁓ I don't think that was what they should have went with for a start. ⁓ the street track in Madrid. ⁓ for everyone that witnessed The racing at the bend. Think the exact opposite of the Madring, because it was one of the worst F one races I reckon I've seen, ABL. And I watched the two thousand and five race at Indianapolis. ⁓ it was a genuine follow the leader, no passing bore fest that even the most diehard F one tragic could not defend. I should also say, this track, this is the worst thing, has a ten year contract. So rack your mind around that. Max Verstappen said on Saturday that he could not see this is Max Verstappen. One of the greatest overtakers in the co in the ⁓ in in the series said he could not see a single overtaking opportunity ⁓ when he spoke to Dutch media. Olli Behrman called it very poor. Bordilto said he almost fell asleep at the wheel. Albon said that if the F three cars can't overtake, then you know we're gonna be no overtaking on the weekend. While Lando Norris was quoted as saying, I don't know how someone looks at this design and goes, Yep, mint. But the best comment was from one of our Discord users ⁓ on during the race from Frosport. He said ⁓ good, a DRS train without the DRS. So it was bad. It was so bad. speaker-1: Yeah, no, it wasn't a good race. No doubt about that. speaker-0: Ten year like I I l I've I've already heard that they're gonna make changes to the track. But geez, they're gonna have to do something because we can't just keep going back to that. That is just that was like tall pull of teeth. ⁓ sure. Well look at qualifying. Lando Norris put in a scorcher over lap. He said it was the best lap of his career, ⁓ to get poll from Kimmy and Max. Two Ferraris were next, George Russell, who was very quiet over the weekend, then Oscar and ⁓ Liam Lawson. Oli Behrman didn't get out. of ⁓ FP three 'cause he crashed hard at turn eleven. And speaking of FP three, Lewis Hamilton calls a red flag, ⁓ nosing into the wall. And it literally was just a nosing into the wall. But that caused a forty minute delay while it seemed like the entire f track was rebuilt AVL. speaker-1: There you go. I didn't see any of F three. We had a bit on speaker-0: Why? Literally just nudged the tires and it was forty minutes to fix that. But anyway, yeah. ⁓ in the Grand Prix, Kimmy Antonelli, just absolute class, took another step towards his maiden world championship with his eighth victory of the year, crossing the line, one and a half seconds ahead of Max with Lando third. Lando was pretty well looking like he was gonna win. It was just a fade of complete until he narrowly missed the opportunity to pit under a virtual safety car that was triggered by Lance Stroll ⁓ on lap fifteen. McLaren brought the reigning world champion. A lap later than everyone else, just as racing was resuming, forcing him to stop basically under green flag conditions, with a slow pit stop compounding the setback. And having fallen to eleventh during the race, Piastri made a slight recovery late to overtake Limblad and finish eighth by the checkered flag. And that was his worst finish since coming eleventh at the Canadian Grand Prix in May. And if he didn't miss it, don't worry about going or watching it. speaker-1: No, no, not worth watching the replay, but I think you've covered off the big points there. Lando Norris was horrendously unlucky ⁓ in the way that VSC played out, ⁓ which was a shame for him because he did look pretty good for ⁓ for winning that thing. ⁓ but again, Kimi Antonelli there to pick up the pieces. ⁓ it's just you know, we're not even in like we're not even talking about some of the advantages enjoyed by the McLaren drivers at different points of last season. Surely this thing's just done now. Like it's it's all over. Like it's it's finished. He's he's gonna be the world champion. Like ⁓ that's ⁓ that's incredible. speaker-0: Yeah, it'll be an incredible comeback for anyone to beat him past here. Something serious is gonna happen. ⁓ a week or two two ago we spoke about drivers in supercars who are in the series because they bring money, and in some cases more money than talent, but we'll leave that where it is. I reckon many fans get it. ⁓ in motorsport, you have to have more dollars than ability sometimes to get you a drive in the main game. But I'm not sure Objective Racing boss Andrew Jones done his driver Jackson Walls any favours, particularly when he spoke at the press conference ⁓ at the bend on the weekend. Let's not forget that Jones declared this time last year that the move to triple eight was about winning championships and Bathus one thousand trophies. Subsequent announcement that ⁓ Jackson Walls, the son of billionaire businessman Tony Walls, would drive the car, raised eyebrows, and it was followed by a p passionate defense. Joan declared on the Gold Coast last year that he'd had a Sonny Vicaro moment while watching Walls in Super 2, a reference to the famous marketer who signed Michael Jordan tonike. Now this week he said, I think we know Woody races hard, and I think Jackson gave him as much as Ryan ⁓ at Queensland Raceway recently. And while you look at the incident on its own where they came together, there was probably a lot of learnings for both those two guys. I love the fact that we were in a pushover and you can't teach that to people. He said, So I'm happy about those elements. There's just a couple of other little things, let's call them house keeping items. That we're still working on, but everything we take to coo ⁓ to him, he works away and he steps up and he keeps going. Some are happening quicker than others, but I'm backing the guy, and I still believe at some point we're gonna be spraying some champagne. ⁓ Walls for after that qualified 21st, and he and Jack Perkins ran 20th in the race. Avio, can I just say I'm all for standing by your man and pumping up your team, but I don't think that kid needs that pressure and with that sort of statement. speaker-1: Yeah, I mean, I had my say on the rollout of all of this, ⁓ and how I do feel that the whole preamble to this objective racing outfit existing didn't do anybody any favours. Does Jackson Walls care about that or about what I think or what you think about it? Probably not. No. Does Andy Jones care? Obviously not, given the fact he's doubling down on on this ⁓ Sonny Vicaro moment theory. I harbour no ill will for Jackson. I'd be thrilled to see him do well. The same goes for Andy. ⁓ my initial issue in all this, ⁓ and it's actually questionable if it's even worth backing over, but we are because Andy did bring it up at the bend, is you know, was that instead of presenting something for what it was and owning that, there was an attempt to pretend it was something entirely different. And I'm just one of many people who struggled to swallow the idea that signing Jackson had nothing to do with money when his dad's company logos are down the side of the car. And who cares? It happens in motorsport. It's happened heaps of times before. It's gonna happen heaps of times again. ⁓ it's actually only a grading thing when there's this kind of desperate effort to try and tell you that it's something different. And I think that's where that's where this kind of does get people's attention because again, accepting that it is what it is and it's a and Jackson's fortunate enough to have the platform to have this amazing opportunity and could use it to build an incredible career, that's all fine. But, you know, it still is what it is. ultimately. Yeah. That's really what it comes down to. So ⁓ at the same time there is something almost admirable to the fact that Andy is just really sticking to his guns about this and is ⁓ and and has his story and that's ⁓ that's the story he's gonna keep telling. So you know let's ⁓ let's see how the future plays out. And again I don't mean that in let's hope it doesn't work because we want the best drivers in this category. And it Would be great if Jackson does take this amazing opportunity and run with it and has a fantastic career in supercast. That would be a very, very good thing for everyone involved. speaker-0: I'd love us to emulate one of the segments on both our one of our favorite podcasts, the sounding board Avere. I ask you questions and I want you to be Andy Jones answering the questions. But ⁓ we might do that. speaker-1: I don't think I could do anywhere near as good a job as Andy. Like he's a he is a fantastic communicator. He's done a lot of the T V stuff and this and that. And he's got a good handle on on exactly how he wants to sell this dream. So there's ⁓ and that is exactly what he's doing. speaker-0: Yep. speaker-1: And we criticize people for for being bored a and all that sort of stuff as well. So to be honest, I I also I feel I part of me feels bad about being critical about it i on one hand as well because he Andy got up there in that team bosses presser and said something really interesting. So like I I also don't want to criticize him too much for that because you know, that's that's an important thing for our sport as well. We talk about that all the time. So Yep. Anyway, it's a complicated speaker-0: the next item and it's bad news for sex sex pests savio because Triple Eight has banned meta glasses from its garage ⁓ in response to claims of spying in the supercar's paddock. According Triple Eight boss Jamie Wincup, the move is a direct response to what he says are legitimate spying claims dur d doing the rounds in the paddock. He says anecdotal evidence suggests content captured on meta by guests on pit tours are Has then been distributed to rival teams. He said, We're reacting before it happens to us. We don't believe it's happened to us, but we're reacting before it does. Back in February, Brody Kastecki was filmed looking underneath Walk on Shore Toyota Super and a Triple Eight Ford Mustang at the Supercar season launch. Triple Eight, however, didn't see the funny side of that. Team manager Mark Dutton going as far as to call for Kastecki to be sidelined for the opening round at the Sydney Motorsport Park. Now, thankfully for owners of Metaglasses AVL, you can still wear them into toilets like the Pesua. speaker-1: Yeah, I actually I I only asked Jamie about this because it kind of felt I'd never seen I think this was the first round they had to sign up. I'd never seen it before. And it actually feels like a an obvious thing for teams to be doing. And I just sort of wondered why it was now they decided to bring in this rule. and I wasn't expecting the sp the full spy theories that we actually that we got from him. it's not something that I'd heard from other teams, but it is plausible, I guess. But the idea that, you know. A team might say, Hey, you know, ⁓ you're going on a pit tour with the other team. Well, stick these on and I just want you to have a bit of a look around here and here and here. So Jamie is adamant it's a thing that has happened. ⁓ and they've taken this measure to stop it. But you know, when when sort of just in my travels through the paddock over the weekend, when you spoke to other people in other teams about it, they kind of went, ⁓ that's probably not a terrible idea, to be honest. To ⁓ because it is kind of, you know, that is their their IP, the IP of setup is more important than ever in the sport just because of how tight the regulations are. And the one thing the sport prides itself on is the access that it gives people in terms of these pit tours and that sort of stuff. So they don't want to stop doing that. ⁓ so I wouldn't be surprised if other teams do adopt this policy as well. speaker-0: You where elsewhere meta glasses won't be welcome, AVL. Live shows. Live shows. So don't bother wearing them to that either because ⁓ the the bloke at the door has already been clued up on pulling taking them off you as well. Yeah. ⁓ FIA president mate, strap yourself in for this. FIA president Mohammed Ben Salaim says he would not it would not be acceptable for Fernando Alonso to leave Formula One while he's in an uncompetitive position. speaker-1: Where's that? ⁓ yes, definitely L. Think. speaker-0: Ben Salaam, the head of motorsports governing body, said an event in Madrid on Friday, and I quote, There is no way we can allow Fernando to leave. Alonso, a great champion, to leave because of the circumstances. That's not the way he he the way to leave the stage. He has to be successful, and then he leaves wherever he wants. Not because he was forced to leave because of performance. I'll be speaking to him. I said to him, I saw him very sad, and I said, Fernando, I understand. It's not acceptable. You are coming to your own country and now After two times a world champion. We did something earlier in May legally for the team towards the engine to go and improve, and then I said to him, I'm not going to tell you what we are going to do. Please tell me what you want because you are the driver and come and tell me what you want us to do to improve these results. That is outrageous. speaker-1: That doesn't seem dodgy at all. speaker-0: It's got a real FIFA whiff about it, hasn't it? speaker-1: Yeah. Yep, no, that's ⁓ there was I I do know that Fernando spoke at some point about about some of this stuff and the fact that, you know, that the engine rigs need to change sooner than what the plan is at the moment to for the good of the sport and all that sort of stuff. But ⁓ yeah, Fernando doesn't need much help on the politicking side. He's an absolute expert at ⁓ at getting his message across as well. So anyway, yeah, it's all it's it's not great. That is speaker-0: Crazy, man. Like that is I've I kept reading it and saying it can't be true, but then I watched the footage and ⁓ it's true. He said all of that and more, so ⁓ anyway. ⁓ Isaac Hadjah could make his Formula One return to in Azerbaijan after Red Bull confirmed his recovery from wrist injury remains on schedule. Frenchman is missing a third consecutive Grand Prix in Madrid last weekend with Liam Lawson again stepping up into the Red Bull alongside Max. Hajar has been absent since injuring his wrist while training ahead of the Dutch Grand Prix, with the team refusing to bring the twenty one year old back until he feels completely comfortable behind the wheel, which is fair enough. Tell you something now. I was watching and thinking about Liam over the weekend. Has this been a blessing or not for him to go to Red Bull? speaker-1: ⁓ I think where did he end up actually where did he end up actually finishing? Yeah, I I think he's done I think he's done a decent job. I think Monza wasn't fantastic, but Zanvoort was. ⁓ so I think it's been I don't know. I mean as long as he's ahead of Lindblad, that's all he really can do at any one point in time, regardless of whether he's in a racing bulls or a Red Bull. So speaker-0: On Sunday night? Seventh, I think. Seventh? deal. speaker-1: ⁓ I think it's probably been he certainly hasn't gone if he'd been behind Sonoda and the racing bull, then we'd be having a different discussion. But the fact that he's actually looked pretty handy, it's probably been a good thing for him. speaker-0: Yeah. Yeah. Let's talk about Moto GP. ⁓ absolutely incredible. Mark Marquez extended his vic ⁓ record as Moto GP's most successful sprint rider to win the sprint race on Saturday night. ⁓ he took it to twenty-one wins. ⁓ Marco Besecki was second and Jorge Martin were third, both on the April's. And then in the Grand Prix, Bezecchi crashed on lap one, ⁓ inexplicably to be honest, while leading. ⁓ Mark Marquez went on to win the Grand Prix ahead of Brother Alex on another Duke and Pedro Acosta on a KTM who is going to Duke, which was a horror day for April. The win gave Mark the champion or equal championship lead. Seven Grand Prix ago, Mark was a hundred and two points off the lead. But in the past seven GPs, he scored two hundred and three points. Jorge Martin is the next best with a hundred and eighteen. So almost a hundred points more than anyone else over the last seven GPs. That is Extraordinary given that he had a couple of Grand Prix off as well. speaker-1: Yeah, I didn't see any of this ⁓ between obviously the band and and trying to cram a little bit of F one in, but yeah, that all sounds pretty wild. speaker-0: Mate, he is yeah, i i you would say the momentum is with him, saying that i I mean the the previews aren't aren't hopeless, but well if he wins from this position, that's extraordinary. And I remember us talking about it seven weeks ago saying there's no chance, like he's way too far behind. Yeah. ⁓ in Moto two, if you want to also talk about bad luck, Senia Adius was fast all weekend. He had the unofficial fastest laps in practice and then stuck it on pole for the race. However, he was taken down at lap one turn one by Angel Picaris, who skittled all three front row starters, ending their races within 500 meters of the start. And Agius was filthy and rightfully so. And in Moto three, it was a great Saturday for the Aussies. Joel Kelso qualified third, but in the race he drifted back to seventh, which isn't horrible. We'll look at Kiwis and Aussies overseas in Nascar, a potential top ten finish went begging for Shane Van Gisbergen and the Homers. speaker-1: You would be. speaker-0: Cruise liner 300 after being clipped by Carson Hosovar into a spin late in the race. Ultimately he finished 23rd in a race won by Kyle Larson. In the WRC rally chili, Taylor Gill ran fourth in WRC two and 11th overall in another strong rally for him. Formula three back in the Madring, ⁓ James Wharton started Saturday sprint from reverse grid pole and finished second before adding 10th in the opening feature race, helping him to 17th for the season with 39 points. ⁓ in the Suka Suzuka 1000, Australian team Madiki Motorsport by Team MT MPC clinched pole position for the Zuka 1000 on its debut with drivers Frederick Ver Vervich. Sorry, Vervich, ⁓ Del Dennis Olsen and the Kangaroo basher ⁓ Christopher Mies. Scotty McLaughlin qualified tenth ⁓ in the Joe Hawk Corvette. Porsche won the race on Saturday with the Rexy nine one one prepared by Absolute Racing, crossing the line ahead of the Mediki Mustang who ran second, and Scotty McLaughlin Finished fourth in a strong race for all round. We'll go to a break, we'll listen to a super cheap Andy Ad, and then we'll come back with what's the forward headline from Taylor and Bend. Credit to G'day. Yeah, welcome back to what's the forward headline from over the weekend. I'm gonna give you a topic. You're gonna tell me what the forward headline is, give or take a word, ⁓ for them over the weekend. We're gonna start with Scotty Pye. What's your forward headline for Scott Pye? speaker-1: The Apex Hunter needs a lucky dog. They had to come from a they had to come from a lap down. Actually, to be perfectly fair, they didn't actually get a wave bite in the race, from what I can tell. They actually just got back on the lead lap ⁓ a lead lap by ⁓ through the pit sequence. So there was no lucky dog technically, but ⁓ that was just too good a line not to use. speaker-0: Making Brown feel at home. We know Brownie gums from the back better than anyone else. He qualifies twentieth and runs fifth. So why wouldn't you put him back there and say best of luck, son? So ⁓ what about what about Jackson Walls? What's your forward headline? speaker-1: No, I think I've had my ⁓ enough to say about this. I'll leave this one to you. speaker-0: ⁓ mine is just shushy Andrew, shushy. ⁓ what about Erebus Motorsport? speaker-1: ⁓ hands off our Hughesy, says Barry, 'cause I reckon there might be a few calls from other teams ⁓ being made about that ⁓ that happy little fella. speaker-0: Mate, he comes across on the microphone as just a genuinely great fella, doesn't he? speaker-1: ⁓ he is just a genuinely great fellow. He's a lovely he's a lovely kid. speaker-0: Yep, mine is just Erebus Shining and Euro Mist. What is it about Erebus and long distance racing AVL? They seem ⁓ come to the fore a little bit and they were in and about in and around there for a long time. speaker-1: in that race. Yeah, we spoke about it on the on the ⁓ Sunday Daily Pod, but you know, Barry talks every year about, you know, we're just gonna build to the enduros and it's felt like a really tough thing to imagine at times this year. But suddenly after Sunday you go, Yeah, okay, let's see how these guys go because because it's all does seem to be coming together at just the right time once again. speaker-0: Really does. ⁓ Richie Sanaway, what's your forward headline? I reckon we're gonna have something similar. speaker-1: Stop toying with our emotions. Stop it, Richie. We've seen this movie before. We get to this point and we think, Yes, we need this guy in the championship and then it doesn't work out and then he goes back into Enduro mode and it stars again and we get excited and but yeah, incredible drive on Sunday from Richie. speaker-0: And your bring back Richie campaign kicks off in style. What's your forward headline for Timmy Slade? speaker-1: ⁓ the save was even better than the stint, 'cause his first stint was pretty impressive. But ⁓ that big save that was ⁓ that was absolutely incredible. speaker-0: I wrote good, then bad, then unbelievable. Because like you said, that that save was the chart topper on that. Zach Bates. ⁓ he gets a mention in the super cheap ad, but what's your forward headline for Zach Bates? speaker-1: ⁓ saves his fiery redhead ways for the radio. 'Cause he is just the nicest bloke at getting about. ⁓ but he knows how to fire up on the radio, there's no doubt about that. But ⁓ speaker-0: Finally carrying on like a true redhead. speaker-1: It's ⁓ Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It's a it's a shame the race kind of didn't pan out for those guys 'cause he did actually do a fantastic job ⁓ for large parts of the weekend. There's no doubt about that. Very impressive to stick it in the shootout. speaker-0: Probably this next one mightn't you mightn't have ⁓ heard a lot, but what's your forward headline for Greg Murphy? speaker-1: I went with Yap of the Gods because what star he is on TV. That's good. He is so good on TV. Like the TV product is just fantastic with him as part of it. He did a he did an absolutely ripped job. speaker-0: ⁓ that's I wrote adding to commentary and live shows. ⁓ he actually, like you said, he he was a s absolute star on on the weekend, calls it how he sees it, but says it in a way that's not cruel or unnecessary and it's just absolutely refreshing to hear. So ⁓ the Ben Motorsport Park, what's your foreword headline for them? speaker-1: ⁓ West is best because I think we've at least found our found our layout there. speaker-0: I've got other configurations no longer required. ⁓ just just keep that. Everything else is fine from there. And I thought we'd go overseas for the last one. What's your ⁓ forward headline for the Madring Madring Spanish F one circuit? speaker-1: I've gone with La Monumentale Disappointment because they used the name of that corner so many times, that big bank corner, I think it speaker-0: What is it with bank curves, Avial? What is the attraction? I don't get it. ⁓ I wrote nothing worse than a broken ring, and that ring is broken, so. ⁓ let's go to an ad and we'll come back with rear of grid and credit or shred. Winter could spell bad news for your vehicle's battery. Here are three maintenance tips from the battery gurus at RNJ Batteries. 1. Avoid frequent short trips to keep your battery at a healthy state of charge. 2. Keep the battery terminals clean and corrosion free. 3. Avoid running your accessories with the engine off for too long. If your battery is three years or older, it might be time to get it tested for free at your local RJ Batteries. RJ Batteries Power like nothing else. Welcome back now. Have we got tickets left for the live show? I think it's like literally five or six tickets left. speaker-1: I'm not a hundred percent sure. very it's very close to being sold out. So anyway, so keep just keep an eye on the socials or join the join the ⁓ the membership program. Discord. Get in the Discord. There's the link is still in there so you can at least go and try and get tickets. speaker-0: Yep. ⁓ yeah, so thank you to everyone who has bought tickets. Really looking forward to it. No pressure. So ⁓ we'll see you in Bathurst, but let's do some credit or Shreddit. So I'm gonna make a statement. You just tell me if you agree or disagree with a credit or Shredd, and we'll come back after we've done all six. Number one Supercars needs at least one Camaro to qualify for the final series or risk backlash from fans and the Chev teams about parody. speaker-1: Yeah, credit. speaker-0: Yeah, credit. This one's from Isaac Edwards on the Discord. He says one of Bernie Eggleston's insane ideas was to add sprinklers around a track to make it artificially wet, thus making racing better and more interesting. Given the contrast of entertainment between the Bend and the five hundred sorry, and the Spanish Grand Prix, was Bernie onto something? speaker-1: ⁓ credit. speaker-0: Shredded. Number three Pit Lane should be closed during a VSC in Formula One. speaker-1: Really? Yeah. speaker-0: Credit. Number four, time certain races are rubbish. Start the races earlier to avoid uncertainty or just advertise each race to finish at a certain time and not go the distance. speaker-1: Read speaker-0: There's two parts to that. I'll say credit. Number five. Trans Am should be nurturing the Moffat Hazelwood rivalry. It's the type of spat supercars hasn't had for ten years. Credit. Number six. Meta glasses are for creeps, pervs and people seeking gotcha moments and should be illegal. speaker-1: Credit. Credit. speaker-0: Credit, right. ⁓ they probably do need a Kamara in the final series or they're gonna get some speaker-1: Anton's Anton's qualified. So ⁓ there's one there and ⁓ with and then with the golden DSQ, that's actually put LeBrock back in the top ten and brought Ojada right into this into the discussion as well. So there's every chance we could end up with ⁓ with two Camaras in the finals. speaker-0: ⁓ Bernie Eccleston's Sprinkler Systems. speaker-1: I say credit because the idea that it would make the racing more interesting is right. Like it's not actually a crazy idea. It would eventually ruin the fun a little bit because a the unpredictability of rain is a big part of what makes it fun. And B, if you made say a third of the races each year wet, everyone would just get so much better at driving in the wet and again it wouldn't be anywhere near as interesting. So ⁓ it's not it's not something that we should Do, but it's not the craziest idea on earth. speaker-0: Yeah. I say shredded because if you're adding sprinklers to my make it more interesting, have a look at your product before you look at trying to fix the pr ⁓ add something else to it to try and adjust to it. ⁓ pit lane should be closed during an VS C and Formula One. I said credit, you say shred it. Why? speaker-1: I I don't know why we would want to remove unpredictable variables. So like to me it doing that is just trying to make the sport as boring as possible. I I mean I don't think there should be VSCs to be honest. I think it should all be safety cars. I would get rid of that to start with, but at least keeping the pit lane open makes it slightly interesting. speaker-0: I get ya, but it's kinda then becomes a lottery and is that what you really want? A lottery? I don't know. ⁓ Yeah, so I said shred it. Time certain races are rubbish. You say they're not. speaker-1: That they're just a necessary evil in most in most cases. Like I know it was a big discussion in the Discord on Sunday afternoon, but like ultimately when you run an event, a big sporting event, you need a timetable. And the timetable can't be open ended for tens, if not hundreds, of reasons. And for everyone saying, ⁓ this doesn't happen in other sports or that, like, explain the Duckworth Lewis system. Like why do test matches ha don't why don't test matches have extra days added to them when it rains? And like if a footy match got delayed by a thunderstorm or something, there would come a point where if the delay went long enough that the game duration would be shortened or the game would be cancelled. So at the end of the day, Supercar's teams were in a mad rush to get packed up and get to their commercially booked flights home on Sunday night after the bend. And those and those flights are booked be based on a timetable because professional sport and large events both rely heavily on what is literally minute by minute timetable. So To me it's just such a non issue thing that makes people irrationally angry. Like that race on Sunday went for longer than it was meant to. Like what more I know. I that's why that's why I I s I said them separately. There is a Duckworth Lewis system, but also when there is a test match, they don't just go well we'll just bang an extra day on it 'cause we lost day three due to rain. They used to, but they stopped doing it because of the complete in impracticality of it. So it is just such a non issue that I don't I just don't understand. Yeah. speaker-0: Yeah, I I just anyway, look we could talk about this, it's not gonna go anywhere. I I think the whole marigmarole at the start of a race where people just stand around on a grid, that could have been time that they could use racing then instead of walking around looking at speaker-1: It could be, but you need to do that stuff as well. You need some build up to the race. You need support races. Like you can't just and there'd be so many cases where you if you wanted to build in that half hour early in the day, you l miss out on something else. And then the event just finishes half an hour early. And then everyone goes, Well, why wouldn't we use that half an hour there? So it's just a non issue. It's honestly a non issue. speaker-0: ⁓ Trans Am should be nurturing the Moffat Hazelwood rivalry. I I love this. And they should be milking it for everything it's worth. speaker-1: Yep. Yep. No, it's great. speaker-0: And metaglasses. speaker-1: ⁓ well our recorder Grant Rowley who's listening to this wears Meta Glasses, so ⁓ I'd be a little careful what you're saying, but I couldn't resist going the credit. speaker-0: ⁓ I thought about it when we talk about it earlier. ⁓ yeah, it's yeah anyway. I just I don't know. I just I'm not that keen on ⁓ speaker-1: No, it's not my cup of tea either, but ⁓ yeah. I ⁓ as I said before, I think other supercar scenes will follow Triple Eight's lead in terms of not allowing them in the garage, which will be ⁓ great fun for Grant who spends his whole life walking and down at Supercast garages. speaker-0: ⁓ a fan letter of the week over your comes from Maddie Andrew and it's actually about the whole time certain thing and what happened with blanchards. He says if say at a lap hundred and ten it buckets down with rain and everyone starts lapping really slowly or they're under the safety car and they short the race, do they disqualify half the field if the mandatory lapse hasn't been done by, say, fifty percent of the field? speaker-1: Yeah, so this is either a very well thought out question, which I assume it is, or a complete fluke, because lap a hundred and ten of a hundred and forty seven of the Ben five hundred is seventy four point eight percent race distance, right? So Maddie seems to know the rule book because the rule book reads the requirement for each driver to complete thirty seven percent of the race distance may be amended at the sole discretion of the stewards if it is not possible for seventy four percent of the race distance to be completed. So with what he's asking, by the letter of the law, yes, anyone who hadn't split the seventy-four percent of the race or the seventy-four point eight percent of the race at 110 laps in half, i.e., the 37% required by each driver, would be at risk of disqualification. At the same time, and it's not something I've had an opportunity to to clarify with Motorsport Australia stewards or or anyone in that organization, I would be amazed if there wasn't a force majeure clause or at least a common sense. application if the race was unexpectedly called off at that 74% mark, if that makes sense. So if something if something just happened out of the blue, whether it was a monsoon that arrived out of nowhere or, you know, it it's someone there was a s someone was seriously injured or something like that. And the race had to be stopped and not restarted at that point with no prior warning, I I just can't imagine there wouldn't be a force majeure kind of scenario there. But that's different to hitting Lap 110 on time certainty, because as I explained before, the teams have the software to predict lap speed and laps remaining until time certainty, and they are responsible for calculating driver time from there. So if it if the race stopped on lap one hundred and ten because it hit time certainty and fifty percent of the field hadn't done their their minimum time, yeah, absolutely, they're getting disqualified. But a completely unexpected and permanent stop to the race feels like something that would be treated differently. speaker-0: Mm-hmm. Alright, that's all too much. That'll about do it for this episode of Full Crew of the Noise. Don't forget you can find the show on all the socials at FC. By the way, if you're asking about Maddie Andrew being a really smart guy, if you ⁓ I'll send you some of the reels he sent me in the last couple of weeks and you can make your own judgment.
