- 1:51there.
- 1:51There's just so much great information that you
- 1:53can, um, you know, ascertain from that.
- 1:57All right.
- 1:58If you're thirsty, if you're hungry or whatever,
- 1:59feel free to go grab something and, uh,
- 2:02come on back to the show, but I
- 2:03don't further do guys, let's kick this show
- 2:06off.
- 2:06So welcome my friends to inspirations for your
- 2:09life, where we're building success from the ground
- 2:13up with tools that matter when pressure is
- 2:16high.
- 2:16And I'm your host.
- 2:17Yes.
- 2:18John Seymour late.
- 2:19And I want to introduce myself properly because
- 2:22who you learn from matters.
- 2:25Uh, a lot.
- 2:26I'm a serial entrepreneur.
- 2:28Um, was built businesses from scratch, understanding that
- 2:31every great venture starts with a single, uh,
- 2:33courageous decision to begin.
- 2:35I'm an engineer by training, uh, which means
- 2:38I approach life with systems thinking and understand
- 2:42that solid foundations determine how high you can
- 2:46I'm a marketing specialist who knows that the
- 2:48most powerful message you will ever share is
- 2:50a story of who you truly are when
- 2:53no one is watching.
- 2:54I'm a video producer who believes that visual
- 2:57storytelling transforms abstract concepts into actionable wisdom that
- 3:01changes lives.
- 3:03I'm a podcast host who has sat across
- 3:05some hundreds of thought leaders, extracting the raw
- 3:08truth about what creates lasting success versus temporary
- 3:13I'm a coach who has walked alongside entrepreneurs
- 3:16and executives as they transform potential into performance.
- 3:21I'm a keynote speaker who has stood before
- 3:23thousands of sharing messages that resonate because they
- 3:26come from.
- 3:27Lived experiences of mine, not textbooks, a theory.
- 3:31I am a graduate student because I believe
- 3:33education never ends.
- 3:35And the moment you think, you know, everything
- 3:37is the moment you stop growing.
- 3:39I'm a passionate lifelong learner who devours books
- 3:42and conversations and that challenging thinking, uh, even
- 3:47more because the comfort is basically the enemy
- 3:50of progress.
- 3:51I am so now deeply grateful, uh, to
- 3:54be standing or sitting here before you as
- 3:57a published author who has poured years of
- 4:01hard one, uh, wisdom onto pages that now
- 4:05travel further than my voice alone can.
- 4:07And, uh, reach and don't worry, there's more
- 4:10books coming.
- 4:11This isn't the, uh, the only end, uh,
- 4:13next year there'll be a book coming out
- 4:14about the truth about AI.
- 4:16No one's going to tell you, and there's
- 4:17a lot more going to happen.
- 4:18My tour is kicked off.
- 4:20So, you know, maybe you'll see me in
- 4:22a city near you, uh, real soon.
- 4:24So today I want to dive deep into
- 4:26understanding integrity through our character and our values.
- 4:31And I want to walk through 30 essential
- 4:34elements that will transform how you show up
- 4:37in every day life in the areas of
- 4:39your life.
- 4:39So let's kick it off with number one.
- 4:41All right.
- 4:41If you got that beverage, you got that
- 4:43juice, you got that snack.
- 4:45Get comfy and let's get started.
- 4:47All right.
- 4:47Cause, uh, there is a lot of information
- 4:49here, uh, that I want to share with
- 4:51you.
- 4:52So let's go to number one.
- 4:54Number one is doing the right thing.
- 4:57Means choosing action that aligns with your deepest
- 5:01values, your core values.
- 5:02Even when those choices cost you money, time
- 5:06or convenience, and especially when no one would
- 5:09ever know if you compromised, that's a key
- 5:13guys, right?
- 5:14That's a big, big key.
- 5:16Number two, staying honest requires you to recognize,
- 5:22okay.
- 5:22It requires you to recognize, um, basically the
- 5:26truth and, um, it's not flexible.
- 5:32It's a concept that bends based on circumstances,
- 5:36but rather a fixed point that guides every
- 5:39interaction.
- 5:41And I think the other important to think
- 5:42about that is not only that interaction, but
- 5:46the thing about it is that it helps
- 5:50us with the decisions that you're going to
- 5:51make.
- 5:52All right.
- 5:53I don't want to be saying, oh, you
- 5:54know, I don't have time for this, but
- 5:56then they grovel and complain and cry that
- 5:59they're not where they want to be.
- 6:00Right?
- 6:01I said before, if you fail to plan,
- 6:04okay.
- 6:05Um, you plan to fail.
- 6:07So plan.
- 6:08Number three, keeping your word becomes your most
- 6:13valuable currency in a world where promises are
- 6:16made lightly and broken easily, because when you
- 6:19say you will do something, others can bank
- 6:22on that commitment.
- 6:24And I think that comes back to what
- 6:27I like to talk a lot about, and
- 6:28that's our integrity.
- 6:30And that's about who we are when we're
- 6:32alone and who we are when we are,
- 6:35um, with other people, number four guys, building
- 6:39trust is not something that happens overnight.
- 6:42Sorry.
- 6:43It happens through or through, I'd say through
- 6:45grand gestures, but rather it accumulates slowly through
- 6:48countless small moments where you prove yourself worthy
- 6:52and, you know, being worthy, even though you
- 6:56are, doesn't sometimes resonate with us immediately.
- 7:00All right.
- 7:00So we have to be kind to ourself.
- 7:02Number five, being reliable means showing up exactly
- 7:06as you promised exactly when you promised and
- 7:10with the quality you promised, even when life
- 7:13throws, well, unexpected challenges your way, number six,
- 7:19acting with integrity becomes your default setting rather
- 7:23than a costume you put on for specific
- 7:25situations, which means your private choices match your
- 7:29public persona.
- 7:32So what we're really saying is the way
- 7:35you act in private is the way you
- 7:39should be acting in public.
- 7:41Now, what a lot of people you'll find
- 7:44will do is they will act great when
- 7:46things are going well, but the minute things
- 7:48get a little chaotic, well, the true colors
- 7:51come out.
- 7:52I think that's something we have to know
- 7:54is, is that we need to get to
- 7:55know people, not just from when they're good,
- 7:58but knowing how they act when they're having
- 8:00challenges, right?
- 8:01How do they handle things?
- 8:03How do they treat people and situations?
- 8:05Number seven, stay accountable requires you to own
- 8:09your outcomes completely without deflecting blame on a
- 8:12circumstances, other people or bad luck.
- 8:15When things do not go as planned, we're
- 8:18not here to nitpick or say, gee, that's
- 8:21not my fault.
- 8:21That's somebody else's problem.
- 8:23I always say, if you're not part of
- 8:26the solution, you are the problem.
- 8:31Number eight, admitting mistakes quickly and honestly becomes
- 8:35a superpower that separates confident professionals from insecure
- 8:41pretenders because see the ability to say I
- 8:45was wrong demonstrates a strength and that's a
- 8:48quality that a lot of leaders have.
- 8:51I don't care whether they have billions of
- 8:53dollars to their name or they're penniless.
- 8:57That characteristic is a key that will stay
- 9:01with you your whole life.
- 9:03Number nine, fixing your errors goes beyond mere
- 9:06apologies into the territory of making concrete restitutions
- 9:10and ensuring that the damage caused by your
- 9:13misstep is repaired.
- 9:16Not because you have to do it guys,
- 9:19but because you should want to do it.
- 9:20Number 10, respecting others flows naturally from respecting
- 9:27yourself and it means honoring the dignity, time
- 9:31and boundaries of every person you encounter, regardless
- 9:37of their status or their situation.
- 9:40I think a lot of people make a
- 9:41decision about whether they want to help somebody
- 9:43based on what they have, what they could
- 9:47do with somebody else, but that's not what
- 9:49life is about.
- 9:49Life is about how we can help others.
- 9:52And even though that person may not be
- 9:53able to help us, it's still karma, it
- 9:56still comes back to us.
- 9:58Number 11 guys, staying fair in your dealings
- 10:02means applying consistent standards, even when you have
- 10:07the power or opportunity to tip scales in
- 10:09your favor at someone else's expense.
- 10:12And I know people that have done this.
- 10:14And when they do this, it eventually bites
- 10:20them in the back end.
- 10:23They're not aware of it.
- 10:26Suddenly something changes and they find themselves not
- 10:32being able to put their head on the
- 10:33pillow at night because they're not living a
- 10:35true life.
- 10:36Number 12 guys, avoiding manipulation requires you to
- 10:41influence others through genuine value and authentic connection
- 10:44rather than through pressure, guilt, or psychological tactics.
- 10:48I'm going to share one, a personal story.
- 10:50So many years ago, I was friends with
- 10:53a flat or suite mate that was in
- 10:55my unit.
- 10:57And he was one of these people is
- 10:59very arrogant financial person.
- 11:01I have nothing against financial people, but there's
- 11:03been a characteristic.
- 11:04A lot of financial people are more about
- 11:06me centered than you.
- 11:08Now, again, that may not be every financial
- 11:10person out there, but I have found that
- 11:11a lot of the millennials are basically me
- 11:15centered.
- 11:16Now that may not be you, but I've
- 11:18just happened to have that experience where several
- 11:20I've met seem to be all about me
- 11:23first.
- 11:23Let me see if I can, you know,
- 11:25beat the boss.
- 11:26Let me get out of the job.
- 11:28Let me, you know, increase my worth, but
- 11:32not doing it with a spirit of compassion,
- 11:35not doing it with a spirit to help
- 11:37and aid others.
- 11:38So I remember this person that I was
- 11:41friends with for a while, very arrogant person,
- 11:44the person would literally like trip me and
- 11:47anybody else in their way.
- 11:47And finally I was like, Hey, you know,
- 11:50you know, didn't know my name for a
- 11:52while.
- 11:52And, uh, we finally became friends and I
- 11:56was at some community meeting.
- 11:56I was like, Hey, you're the guy that
- 11:58always trips me every morning.
- 12:00Oh, you're always in a rush.
- 12:02You know what to say?
- 12:02I was like, uh, yeah.
- 12:05And then he said something very interesting to
- 12:07me.
- 12:07He said, John, he says, you know, I
- 12:08hate people.
- 12:09I said, well, I guess, uh, I should
- 12:12leave.
- 12:12He said, no, no, no, no.
- 12:13He said, you're different.
- 12:15So how am I different?
- 12:16He said, just are, I can't explain.
- 12:18He said, you just are.
- 12:19And people are a waste of my time
- 12:21unless they're making me money.
- 12:24He's a, right now he is the vice
- 12:26president of a company that does pharmaceutical research
- 12:30and he's the risk vice president analysis.
- 12:34Number 13, guys, building strong principles gives you
- 12:39an internal compass that points true North.
- 12:42When external circumstances become confusing or when you
- 12:45face complex ethical dilemmas and trust me guys,
- 12:49you're going to face these dilemmas.
- 12:50It's going to happen, but it's how we
- 12:52deal with these cards, how we deal with
- 12:54these situations that empowers or disempowers us, gets
- 12:59people to like us or hate us.
- 13:01Number 14, staying consistent in your core values
- 13:04means that your Monday morning choices should match
- 13:08your Sunday evening promises and you do not
- 13:11become a different person when tired or you're
- 13:15tempted, I know this sounds easy, right?
- 13:18Uh, many nights, you know, I'm tired.
- 13:20I didn't want to actually do my exercises,
- 13:21but like, you know, I got to do
- 13:22some exercises.
- 13:24And my body knows that I want to
- 13:26do this.
- 13:26So I do something, I do some type
- 13:28of exercise.
- 13:29I don't skip.
- 13:30Maybe I don't do the full, um, battery
- 13:33of tests, but I still do some exercises
- 13:34and I keep true to myself.
- 13:37Number 15, guys, never compromising your character for
- 13:42temporary comfort, pleasure, or profit, because see the
- 13:44reputation you build over decades can just snap
- 13:48or crumble in a single fraction of a
- 13:51second, and that can be a weakness.
- 13:55So let's work on building a high quality
- 13:59of character.
- 14:00So this way others can regard us, but
- 14:03so that we can feel well, because see,
- 14:04when we have a strong character of who
- 14:06we are, we feel so good about ourselves.
- 14:10Number 16, leading by example means embodying the
- 14:13standards you wish others would follow.
- 14:16Rather than merely announcing those standards from a
- 14:18distance while exempting yourself.
- 14:20The key guys is I can roll my
- 14:22sleeves up.
- 14:23Okay.
- 14:24I can show you what needs to be
- 14:25done.
- 14:26And then you're going to go do it.
- 14:27I always love leaders.
- 14:29They say, well, this is what you need
- 14:30to do.
- 14:30It's like, have you ever done that before?
- 14:32No, but I know how to do it.
- 14:34Well, how?
- 14:35Well, I've watched YouTube videos.
- 14:37Just like you watch YouTube videos.
- 14:40Okay.
- 14:42And their advice is, let's just say very
- 14:46shallow.
- 14:47Number 17, guys, being transparent about your process
- 14:52and your progress creates an environment where others
- 14:55feel safe to be authentic rather than feeling
- 14:58pressured to project perfection.
- 15:02And I think perfection is something that a
- 15:04lot of people, um, you know, they strive
- 15:07to do this and it's good, but it
- 15:09shouldn't be there at the cost of knocking
- 15:12others down or let's say disrespecting others, right?
- 15:16Number 18, avoiding shortcuts, uh, becomes a point
- 15:22of pride.
- 15:23Because you understand that anything worth building deserves
- 15:27the time effort and attention required to make
- 15:30it last.
- 15:32You could always have a shortcut, but then
- 15:35do you really feel that you have earned
- 15:37it now?
- 15:40And when you don't feel you've earned something,
- 15:43usually not going to stay around you very
- 15:45long.
- 15:46Number 19, staying grounded, keeps you connected to
- 15:49your roots and your values, even when success
- 15:52tempts you to believe your own hype or
- 15:55disconnect from those who helped you rise.
- 15:58And I think that's another important point is
- 16:02a lot of times you're going to see
- 16:04people going up and you're here.
- 16:08And then the tables flip and suddenly you're
- 16:12going up and they're coming down.
- 16:15So I always say, be nice to people
- 16:17because you never know if you're going to
- 16:20meet them on the way down.
- 16:22You never know, but if you're humble, that
- 16:25won't happen, right?
- 16:27Number 20, building credibility happens one kept promise
- 16:32at a time and one establishment to become
- 16:35one of your most valuable assets that opens
- 16:37doors.
- 16:38Money cannot buy.
- 16:39Now I'm going to share one.
- 16:41Um, one of my aspirations is to do
- 16:43a Ted talk someday, but I can tell
- 16:45you there's people out there trying to sell
- 16:47these programs to rip people off.
- 16:49One guy claims he has a credibility machine.
- 16:53He wants to charge you a lot of
- 16:55money.
- 16:55The truth is you don't need any of
- 16:57those things.
- 16:58You need to believe in yourself and then
- 17:01you need to actually have social proof that
- 17:04you've done something.
- 17:05Once you've done that, you don't need a
- 17:08program.
- 17:09You don't need to use somebody's this.
- 17:11You need to be credible in your own
- 17:14eyes and be credible with a few friends.
- 17:16Once you start doing that, it's like, Hey,
- 17:19wait, this guy actually knows what he's talking
- 17:21about.
- 17:24I remember a lot of my talks, people
- 17:26say, Oh, John, you know, I can't stay
- 17:27the whole time.
- 17:27Like, okay, no problem.
- 17:28We have things we have to do.
- 17:29No problem.
- 17:30Yet.
- 17:31I find them staying the entire time.
- 17:34Number 21 being dependable means becoming the person
- 17:39others know they can count on when a
- 17:42crisis hits.
- 17:43And the easy choice would be to disappear
- 17:46or make excuses.
- 17:48I know lots of people that leave companies.
- 17:52I'm not going to name names, but we
- 17:53got CEOs.
- 17:54We got presidents and they all leave the
- 17:57company when it gets too hot in the
- 18:00kitchen, maybe their way of operating.
- 18:05It's not about truth.
- 18:09Maybe they can't handle the crisis and they
- 18:11don't know what to do.
- 18:12So what do they do?
- 18:13They jump ship or jump out of the
- 18:16plane.
- 18:18Number 22 guys choosing a long-term reputation
- 18:22over a short-term gain requires you to
- 18:25play the infinite game.
- 18:28We're winning means maintaining your integrity for decades.
- 18:31A lot of people will wow you and
- 18:35all that, right?
- 18:36The, the, the fancy term is wine and
- 18:38dine you.
- 18:40But when the end of the day comes,
- 18:42there's no value.
- 18:48They bought you dinner.
- 18:49Great.
- 18:49They did something else for you.
- 18:53Great.
- 18:53But where is their value to you?
- 18:56Right.
- 18:57Is everything they're doing a facade?
- 19:01How many of you ever seen a TV
- 19:02sets?
- 19:03I know I've seen this as a producer
- 19:04many times where I used to think the
- 19:06sets were all full.
- 19:07They're not, they're facades.
- 19:10You only see the front.
- 19:11There is no back.
- 19:12There is no side.
- 19:13You just see what angle the camera is
- 19:15going to see.
- 19:16So if that works like that, now, if
- 19:18we suddenly get a crisis, if we suddenly
- 19:19pivot you and somebody sees your other side,
- 19:22Oh no, you can't see that side.
- 19:25That doesn't seem like somebody who's living a
- 19:28life that's built around integrity and trust and
- 19:32accountability.
- 19:34They're making excuses for why you can't see
- 19:36the other side, right?
- 19:38Number 23, staying true to yourself demands that
- 19:44you know who you are at your core
- 19:46and refuse to contort yourself into shapes that
- 19:51please others, but violate your own spirit and
- 19:54your core values.
- 19:55I remember, uh, being a longtime fan of
- 19:58Mr. Rogers, a neighborhood on channel 13.
- 20:01And I remember, um, in one of the
- 20:04shows, they had a special where they were
- 20:06going to show you how actually Fred was
- 20:09going to show us how this was a
- 20:10television studio.
- 20:13And he says, you know, this all here
- 20:15is what you're seeing here is all kind
- 20:17of, uh, pretend he says, this is not
- 20:21really a house I'm going to show you.
- 20:24Okay.
- 20:24And so if we look over here and
- 20:26we look to the right, you're going to
- 20:28see that.
- 20:29This is a set.
- 20:30Okay.
- 20:31This is a set, even though I go
- 20:32out the door, right?
- 20:33But this is a set.
- 20:34There is no wall.
- 20:36You see the camera never shows you the
- 20:38site because that's where the cameras are.
- 20:40That's all open, you know?
- 20:43And so when he showed things like that,
- 20:47and we call it behind the scenes, right?
- 20:51It gave a transparency to him and the
- 20:56show.
- 20:56I think a lot of people feel that
- 20:58if you are transparent, that the magic is
- 21:00going to go away, that you're not going
- 21:02to be as impressive.
- 21:04I got news for you.
- 21:05If you can be transparent, even if you
- 21:08let go a secret or you let somebody
- 21:10see something that's not meant to be seen,
- 21:12you're not going to lose respect.
- 21:15You're going to get the heckler.
- 21:17Sure.
- 21:17But more of the people that respect you
- 21:20are going to respect you more because you
- 21:22were transparent.
- 21:23I remember the first I'm like, Oh, this
- 21:25is all a scam.
- 21:26Whatever show I was watching.
- 21:27This is a set set.
- 21:30Yeah.
- 21:30This isn't a real house.
- 21:31This is a set they made up cheaper.
- 21:36Number 24, guys, aligning your actions with your
- 21:41goals.
- 21:41Your core values means that your daily behaviors
- 21:44move you close to the person you claim
- 21:47you want to become rather than contradicting that
- 21:51vision of what you're expecting.
- 21:56I know this is a lot of information
- 21:58for one shot.
- 22:00That's why I encourage you to definitely go
- 22:02back after it's over and watch the replay,
- 22:05because if you do that, you'll be like,
- 22:06Oh, wait a minute, John, this makes a
- 22:08lot of sense.
- 22:09It does.
- 22:10It makes a lot of sense.
- 22:14Number 25 guys ready for number 25.
- 22:19Avoiding hypocrisy requires you to live the advice
- 22:22you give others and model the standards you
- 22:26expect, even when no one would call you
- 22:28out for doing otherwise.
- 22:31So if it's something you'd be doing and
- 22:34you're being transparent about it, if the advice
- 22:37is what you'd be doing yourself, you're transparent.
- 22:41Number 26, building strong relationships on foundations of
- 22:44integrity creates bonds that withstand pressure, conflict, and
- 22:50time.
- 22:51Because you see both parties know that trust
- 22:54exists.
- 22:54When trust exists, the give can stretch a
- 23:01little bit more.
- 23:02Number 27, respectful is important.
- 23:06Staying respectful during conflict means maintaining your dignity
- 23:10and theirs when emotions get high and the
- 23:14temptation to attack personally becomes strongest.
- 23:18An example I want to use on this
- 23:20is there was a Facebook I was in.
- 23:22It was a low voltage tech group.
- 23:25We're talking about something and the person adamantly
- 23:30disagreed rather than just being professional and disagreeing
- 23:33with what I said, he decided to personally
- 23:36attack me, I just said to him, hey,
- 23:38I don't think that's right.
- 23:40I'm just stating my point.
- 23:42And then he's being more insulting.
- 23:43And I say, you know what?
- 23:44I don't have time for this.
- 23:46I'm leaving the group and I'm blocking you.
- 23:49And I did.
- 23:50Some people have this ego in their head
- 23:52and they feel that if the ego stays
- 23:55there, okay, that they're in control.
- 23:57But the truth of the matter is that
- 23:59ego is nothing but an illusion.
- 24:01That's all it is guys.
- 24:03It's an illusion.
- 24:04It's an illusion.
- 24:06What it's doing is it's manipulating you.
- 24:09And many people, when they get manipulated, don't
- 24:13know it.
- 24:14And they just kind of follow along, you
- 24:18know, like a dog on a leash.
- 24:21But when we experience this and when we
- 24:24know what manipulation looks like, feels like, like,
- 24:29hey, wait a minute, I don't want to
- 24:32be manipulated just so you've heard the thing,
- 24:33I don't want to be sold.
- 24:35How many of you gone to a car
- 24:36place?
- 24:36Like, well, let me tell you, like, I
- 24:37don't want to be sold.
- 24:38I just want to research.
- 24:41Nobody wants to be sold on anything.
- 24:44People want it to be their ideas.
- 24:47Right.
- 24:48Number 28, taking responsibility before seeking credit means
- 24:53you're the first to own the problem and
- 24:56the last to claim the victory because the
- 24:58leadership is about service, it's not about status.
- 25:02But when this ego gets involved, Mr. Ego
- 25:05up here, changes the story.
- 25:08It says, hey, I want, I want credibility
- 25:10now.
- 25:10I want credit now.
- 25:13And then other people start to realize, well,
- 25:15hey, is this person being transparent or is
- 25:17this really just a game?
- 25:21Is it just a game?
- 25:24And that can be something that a lot
- 25:25of people, I'm going to say they wrestle
- 25:27with.
- 25:29Right.
- 25:33They wrestle with it.
- 25:37And I know that can be hard.
- 25:40Number 29, guys earning respect through basically daily
- 25:46discipline proves you're committed to the process, not
- 25:50just the outcomes and the fact that you
- 25:53value the journey as much as the destination
- 25:56will gain you more respect and a greater
- 26:00appreciation for what you're doing.
- 26:02Number 30 guys, maintaining standards that elevate everyone
- 26:06means refusing to participate in gossip or toxic
- 26:09behaviors, even when they are common in your
- 26:11environment.
- 26:13What did I do the other day when
- 26:14that was happening?
- 26:15I said, you know, I've asked you to
- 26:18stop.
- 26:18I don't wish to be part of this
- 26:20toxic environment.
- 26:22I'm leaving.
- 26:23Don't invite me back.
- 26:23And I'm blocking you.
- 26:25Some people just get their jollies out of
- 26:29exerting their inflated egos.
- 26:33My friends, integrity is not a destination.
- 26:39You see, you arrive at it, but a
- 26:42practice you engage in every single moment, it
- 26:47is the sum of choices that seems small
- 26:53in isolation, but compound into the character that
- 26:58defines your leg, legacy, whether you master integrity,
- 27:02whether you master integrity, you build a life
- 27:03that requires no explanation, no apology, no hiding.
- 27:08And I think that's a hard thing for
- 27:09a lot of people to understand.
- 27:12It's not a destination you arrive at, but
- 27:18a practice you engage in every single moment,
- 27:20and it's the sum of choices that seems
- 27:23small in isolation, but compounded the character that
- 27:27define your legacy.
- 27:28When you master integrity, you build a life
- 27:30that requires no explanation, no apology, no hiding.
