- 0:01Speaker 1: You're listening to Hawk Talk with former Seahawks wide receiver
- 0:04Speaker 1: Michael Bumpus.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Play fake, go to roll right, dumps it off into
- 0:07Speaker 2: the right flass to Michael Pumpers, who bounces off a
- 0:09Speaker 2: one tackler catch inside the forty down of the thirty
- 0:12Speaker 2: five yard line.
- 0:13Speaker 1: Powered by Seahawks dot Com.
- 0:15Speaker 3: Matt pumpfake's looking at the goal line.
- 0:17Speaker 4: He throws it into the end zone.
- 0:18Speaker 1: Touchdown.
- 0:19Speaker 4: Say Hawks, it's Michael.
- 0:21Speaker 5: Thumps with a diving catching the end zone on ten
- 0:24Speaker 5: yard touchdown reception for Bumpers, and the kid out of
- 0:27Speaker 5: Washington State has found himself a place.
- 0:30Speaker 4: On this team.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Now here's your host, NASA Chobee.
- 0:35Speaker 6: Another week, Another Seahawks victory is they beat the Panthers
- 0:37Speaker 6: thirty seven at twenty seven in a thrilling game at Lumenfield.
- 0:40Speaker 4: There's a lot of cool things going on.
- 0:42Speaker 6: It was the anniversary of the Super Bowl forty eighteen,
- 0:45Speaker 6: so a lot of legends back in the house, and
- 0:47Speaker 6: the Seahawks showed up and showed out, and there was
- 0:50Speaker 6: a really good performance from the Seahawks offensive line. So
- 0:52Speaker 6: there's one guy that I want to talk to when
- 0:54Speaker 6: it comes to the line play and that's my guy,
- 0:56Speaker 6: Big Ray Roberts.
- 0:57Speaker 4: As we go inside the trenches.
- 1:01Speaker 1: It's time to go inside the trenches with former Seahawks
- 1:04Speaker 1: Ray Roberts.
- 1:07Speaker 4: Big Ray, Big Ray, Big win for the Seahawks.
- 1:09Speaker 6: Now, they went into this game down three starters on
- 1:13Speaker 6: the offensive line. Charles Cross still doing with a toe injury,
- 1:16Speaker 6: Abe Lucas on ir deal with the knee injury. Phil
- 1:18Speaker 6: Haynes miss yesterday's game with a caf ray. So tell
- 1:21Speaker 6: me what do you see from this offensive line on Sunday?
- 1:25Speaker 7: What I saw was, like, I think it probably took
- 1:27Speaker 7: them a little bit to get into some rhythm, but
- 1:29Speaker 7: I thought the Seahows did a good job of starting
- 1:32Speaker 7: to play to the strengths of the of the guys
- 1:34Speaker 7: that were in there.
- 1:34Speaker 3: So look at my guy Bradford, who's a big.
- 1:36Speaker 7: Kind of maller, kind of a dude, kind of mind you,
- 1:39Speaker 7: a little bit of DJ Flucker, and then my man
- 1:42Speaker 7: Jake Kerhan, who's a really good run blocker.
- 1:44Speaker 3: The same with you know, with Lewis on the left side.
- 1:47Speaker 7: So I think they started to kind of play to
- 1:49Speaker 7: the strengths of the of the offensive line, and so
- 1:52Speaker 7: it paid off of them in the running game, even
- 1:54Speaker 7: though the running game wasn't pretty all the time, but
- 1:57Speaker 7: that's what the running game is. Sometimes it's ugly, ugly, ugly,
- 1:59Speaker 7: and then you have a few big, beautiful plays.
- 2:02Speaker 3: And it makes it all work. So I was excited
- 2:04Speaker 3: about that.
- 2:05Speaker 7: The one thing that I that I did see that
- 2:06Speaker 7: was a little bit different is they didn't give the
- 2:09Speaker 7: tackles as much help in past protection. And I think
- 2:11Speaker 7: maybe they underestimated the edge rushers for the for the Panthers.
- 2:15Speaker 7: But if there was any kind of little flaw, it
- 2:17Speaker 7: was a little bit in that, uh, maybe giving him
- 2:20Speaker 7: a little bit more help on the edge in the
- 2:21Speaker 7: pass protection.
- 2:22Speaker 8: Big great talk about pass protection.
- 2:24Speaker 9: He saw Burns beat ker hand early, so then to myself,
- 2:27Speaker 9: I'm like, all right, man, how is my guy going
- 2:29Speaker 9: to bounce back?
- 2:30Speaker 8: And he seemed like he did a pretty good job.
- 2:32Speaker 9: Are there any adjustments you make when you play a
- 2:34Speaker 9: guy explosive as explosive as Burns, or you rely on
- 2:38Speaker 9: technique like take me into the mind of a tackle
- 2:40Speaker 9: after get beat?
- 2:42Speaker 7: Yeah, Normally, like when you when you get beat, you
- 2:44Speaker 7: want to first try to process yourself because usually it's
- 2:47Speaker 7: like you know, the next play.
- 2:48Speaker 3: You're either back at the line of scrimmat or in
- 2:50Speaker 3: the huddle.
- 2:50Speaker 7: So on your way back to the huddle, you're trying
- 2:52Speaker 7: to think, Okay, what happened on that He kind of
- 2:55Speaker 7: came up, shook a little bit, beat me inside, So maybe.
- 2:58Speaker 3: I was drifting up filled a little too much.
- 3:00Speaker 7: You just kind of make that little note in your
- 3:02Speaker 7: head so you can make that adjustment, you know, So
- 3:04Speaker 7: I got if you got bull rush, you might be like,
- 3:06Speaker 7: oh man, I was sitting a little too high back
- 3:07Speaker 7: on my heels a little bit. So you try to
- 3:09Speaker 7: process that really quick because you don't have that much
- 3:12Speaker 7: time before the next play is called. And so I
- 3:14Speaker 7: think probably that was happening. But also with the way
- 3:17Speaker 7: they you know, the game in game video and pictures
- 3:21Speaker 7: nowadays are incredible, So by the time he gets to
- 3:24Speaker 7: the sideline, coach has already figured.
- 3:25Speaker 3: Out, you know what he did? You know what?
- 3:27Speaker 7: You know, maybe his hand placement or his feet were
- 3:29Speaker 7: coming together, he's laid off the ball, or you know
- 3:31Speaker 7: what it was. So you can get all that stuff
- 3:33Speaker 7: processed on the sideline, but in the game, during like
- 3:36Speaker 7: within a drive, you have to be able to process
- 3:38Speaker 7: all that and if you can't, you got to be
- 3:39Speaker 7: able to put it away. Like I remember my rookie
- 3:42Speaker 7: year in the league. That was a problem for me,
- 3:44Speaker 7: Like I just never people just never beat me in college,
- 3:47Speaker 7: and so I would get beat on the pass rush.
- 3:49Speaker 7: The dude may not even touch the quarterback, but it
- 3:51Speaker 7: just got around me and it may impact me for
- 3:53Speaker 7: the next two or three plays. So I had to
- 3:55Speaker 7: have a little message for myself, and you know when
- 3:57Speaker 7: I was walking back to the huddle and say, you know, hey,
- 3:59Speaker 7: you're prepared, you're talented enough, trust it, and then I
- 4:02Speaker 7: move on to the next place. So you got to
- 4:04Speaker 7: have some of that and in order to come back
- 4:07Speaker 7: from stuff like that.
- 4:09Speaker 6: Standing on the offensive line, Ray, young Anthony Bradford gets
- 4:12Speaker 6: his first start in place of Phil Haynes. You know,
- 4:15Speaker 6: he seems like even gutted through a little ankle injury
- 4:17Speaker 6: on a touchdown, kind of rolled his ankle. But getting
- 4:20Speaker 6: your first start in front of the twelves. Tell me
- 4:22Speaker 6: about Anthony Bradford and what you saw from him. Obviously
- 4:24Speaker 6: he was kind of fighting with Phil Haynes to see
- 4:27Speaker 6: if he was going to be able to start or
- 4:28Speaker 6: be in that mix. Phil been here, the veteran for
- 4:30Speaker 6: a long time. Rightfully earned that starting spot. But what
- 4:32Speaker 6: do you see from the young kid Anthony Bradford.
- 4:35Speaker 7: Yeah, what I saw was a very a dude who
- 4:38Speaker 7: has a lot of potential to be a real solid guard.
- 4:41Speaker 7: You know, in college he played left tackle, right tackle,
- 4:44Speaker 7: and the guard spot, so he hasn't really mastered any
- 4:48Speaker 7: of it yet, and so you can see a little
- 4:50Speaker 7: bit of that in his game. That's why his technique
- 4:52Speaker 7: isn't the most you know, solid technique, but his outcomes
- 4:56Speaker 7: are good and that's what I like about it. Dude
- 4:58Speaker 7: is like the the thing that I look for sometimes
- 5:01Speaker 7: in guards is in pass protection.
- 5:03Speaker 3: When they're uncovered, what do they do?
- 5:05Speaker 7: Do they just stand in the open space and get
- 5:07Speaker 7: a plus for that play or do they look for work?
- 5:10Speaker 3: And he's a dude that looks for work.
- 5:11Speaker 7: If there's someone rushing over the center, he kind of
- 5:15Speaker 7: go get a rib shot. If there's someone rushing over
- 5:17Speaker 7: the tight end, go get another I mean over the tackle,
- 5:20Speaker 7: go get a rib shot. I like dudes that try
- 5:22Speaker 7: to find work when they're freed up, and he's one
- 5:24Speaker 7: of those dudes.
- 5:25Speaker 3: And then in a run game.
- 5:26Speaker 7: Like I said, the dude must have some really strong hands,
- 5:30Speaker 7: because once he got his hands on people. It was
- 5:32Speaker 7: pretty much a done deal in the run game. And
- 5:34Speaker 7: that's why it remind me a lot of DJ Flucker
- 5:36Speaker 7: because DJ Flucker didn't have the best.
- 5:38Speaker 3: Technique, but like he said, like he'll take him to the.
- 5:40Speaker 7: Water whatever that meant back in the day, But that's
- 5:43Speaker 7: what I saw Anthony Bradford.
- 5:44Speaker 3: Do that a few times in the run game. So
- 5:46Speaker 3: I was really impressed by that.
- 5:47Speaker 9: Now, let's flip over to the defense man the Hawks
- 5:50Speaker 9: were able to get after the quarterback man eleven QB
- 5:53Speaker 9: his three sacks. What you see from our defensive defensive line,
- 5:58Speaker 9: jay Reee got the party going and then kind everywhere
- 6:00Speaker 9: what you see, well.
- 6:02Speaker 7: I think you just called out the main cog in
- 6:05Speaker 7: the whole will and that's Jay Reed.
- 6:06Speaker 3: You know, we talked in the.
- 6:08Speaker 7: Preseason during training camp when they talked about putting him
- 6:11Speaker 7: over the nose, and I thought that was a good
- 6:13Speaker 7: place to put it, because if you can get some
- 6:15Speaker 7: pass rush and push in the middle, it's going to
- 6:17Speaker 7: help the outside rushers. If the quarterback has a place
- 6:20Speaker 7: to step up and escape underneath the outside rush, it
- 6:23Speaker 7: makes a little bit harder to get there.
- 6:24Speaker 3: And so I think Pe said this is one of
- 6:26Speaker 3: the best games he saw in play.
- 6:28Speaker 7: I'm glad that he embraced the position and he had
- 6:30Speaker 7: a really good game yesterday. Sometimes he didn't always get
- 6:33Speaker 7: to the quarterback, but he was pushing the guards and
- 6:36Speaker 7: the centers right into the lap of the quarterback, and
- 6:38Speaker 7: so that was allowing a guy like Mafey had a
- 6:40Speaker 7: really good day. I think he had five hits or
- 6:43Speaker 7: five pressures on the quarterback. He was in the backfield
- 6:45Speaker 7: all day long. And so I think, like I said
- 6:48Speaker 7: in the preseason, for this defensive line, Jaron Reid has
- 6:52Speaker 7: to be the dude that is a difference maker, and
- 6:54Speaker 7: yesterday he was a difference maker.
- 6:56Speaker 6: No question about that. Jay Reed looks special. Probably one
- 6:59Speaker 6: of the best games I've seen him in the Seahawk uniform. Ray,
- 7:01Speaker 6: So I definitely agree with you on that last thing
- 7:04Speaker 6: I have for you, Ray. The Seahawks obviously play a
- 7:07Speaker 6: bad second half against the Rams, go to on one
- 7:10Speaker 6: now back to back wins. How important is it for
- 7:12Speaker 6: them to get to three and one as they head
- 7:14Speaker 6: into the bye week and then hopefully get healthy.
- 7:17Speaker 7: It's super important because then you know, I looked at
- 7:19Speaker 7: them going into the bye week is undefeated, so unfortunately
- 7:22Speaker 7: they dropped that one to the Rams.
- 7:24Speaker 3: But it's also important for.
- 7:26Speaker 7: Them to get it all put together, like, get it
- 7:29Speaker 7: all put together going into the bye week.
- 7:31Speaker 3: You feel good.
- 7:31Speaker 7: Obviously to win, it's a big thing, but if you
- 7:33Speaker 7: can win and have it all put together, like like
- 7:35Speaker 7: on defense, I still think that there's like these individual
- 7:38Speaker 7: performances that look good, but the unit itself hasn't played
- 7:43Speaker 7: great all together. They gave up ten of nineteen third
- 7:46Speaker 7: down conversions this week, and so that's that's still an
- 7:50Speaker 7: issue they need to do. And then on the offensive line,
- 7:53Speaker 7: just man, I really think they got to start mixing
- 7:56Speaker 7: it in with Sharbonnay. The dude just added a different
- 7:59Speaker 7: element to the game. His physicality came, you know, came.
- 8:02Speaker 7: You know, it's different than Kenneth Walker. You know, Kenneth
- 8:04Speaker 7: Walker's Kenneth Walker is a big play waiting to happen
- 8:07Speaker 7: every time he touches the ball. Sometimes I want him
- 8:09Speaker 7: to just kind of go get the yards and set
- 8:11Speaker 7: up some of those cutbacks, but that's not who he is.
- 8:13Speaker 7: So I think, you know, kind of cleaning up some
- 8:15Speaker 7: of that stuff so everybody feels like they're functioning as
- 8:18Speaker 7: a unit. So the the d line know how they
- 8:20Speaker 7: fit in with the outside linebackers, who know how they
- 8:23Speaker 7: fit in with the inside backers, who know how they
- 8:24Speaker 7: fit in with the safeties in the corners. And then
- 8:26Speaker 7: the same on offense, how the offensive line fits with
- 8:29Speaker 7: the running backs and two different styles. How Gino you
- 8:31Speaker 7: know is getting the ball out using the tight ends, receivers,
- 8:34Speaker 7: the running backs, all of that. If you have some
- 8:36Speaker 7: feel good going into the bye week with a win,
- 8:39Speaker 7: I think that'd be a great way to do it.
- 8:41Speaker 6: I hope you're right, big Ray. We need it, Bob, right,
- 8:44Speaker 6: we needed three on one. Come on now, yeah, sure,
- 8:48Speaker 6: let's get it all right, Ray, go ahead.
- 8:51Speaker 9: That's what I got for you, man. I just want
- 8:52Speaker 9: to ask you about the tight ends. I was surprised
- 8:55Speaker 9: that they didn't lead them attached to the line of
- 8:57Speaker 9: scrimmage as much as I thought they were to help out.
- 9:01Speaker 9: Do you think that's because they wanted them to get
- 9:03Speaker 9: more involved in the pass game?
- 9:04Speaker 8: They trust the tackles, What did you see when it
- 9:07Speaker 8: comes to that.
- 9:09Speaker 7: I really do think that they may have underestimated the
- 9:12Speaker 7: edge rushers for the Carolina passers and felt like they
- 9:15Speaker 7: could handles control it with not much help.
- 9:18Speaker 3: There's a few.
- 9:18Speaker 7: Times when they had the running backs back there trying
- 9:21Speaker 7: to chip, but the running backs sometimes sometimes the chip
- 9:24Speaker 7: on the outside from the running back is the worst
- 9:27Speaker 7: case scenario because as a I know for sure there
- 9:30Speaker 7: was at least one pressure that forsythe gave up where
- 9:33Speaker 7: he was expecting the chip on the outside, so he
- 9:35Speaker 7: was sitting on the inside and the chip never came.
- 9:38Speaker 3: And so sometimes having the tight end.
- 9:40Speaker 7: Attached there makes it a lot easier than having the
- 9:42Speaker 7: running back due to chip, because the tight end is
- 9:44Speaker 7: going to the dude that's usually lined up either inside
- 9:47Speaker 7: or right outside the tight end, so you're going to
- 9:48Speaker 7: get some contact there before you.
- 9:50Speaker 3: Have to block him. So I think if they had
- 9:52Speaker 3: to do it all over again, I think they probably
- 9:54Speaker 3: would have attached the tight ends to.
- 9:56Speaker 7: The line of scrimmage a little more or done a
- 9:58Speaker 7: better job with the running back chipping up, because these
- 10:01Speaker 7: dudes are capable of blocking.
- 10:02Speaker 3: Dudes one on one, but they are the next man
- 10:05Speaker 3: up for a reason. They're not.
- 10:06Speaker 7: They're not the starters, they're not the dudes that went
- 10:08Speaker 7: the distance last year. They're not the high draft picks
- 10:11Speaker 7: and all that kind of stuff, and so They're going to.
- 10:13Speaker 3: Have flaws in their games, so you can't expect.
- 10:15Speaker 7: Them to be what you know, to do what they
- 10:17Speaker 7: did against Detroit without some type of help.
- 10:20Speaker 4: He is Big Ray Roberts.
- 10:21Speaker 6: He's got a PhD In moving people on the offensive line.
- 10:24Speaker 4: Right, Appreciate it as always, and we'll talk to you
- 10:26Speaker 4: next week.
- 10:28Speaker 3: Yes, sir, I liked that. Didn't moving people? I'm not
- 10:30Speaker 3: instilled that one.
- 10:31Speaker 4: You gotta dog Patton right now.
- 10:34Speaker 3: Thanks for Gomi, please all right.
- 10:36Speaker 6: I always love catching up with Big Ray Roberts, one
- 10:39Speaker 6: of our good guys.
- 10:40Speaker 4: A lot of people.
- 10:40Speaker 6: Something that's so misunder said, bump is offensive line play,
- 10:43Speaker 6: probably the most misunder said thing in sports. We love
- 10:46Speaker 6: that we have a resident PhD In moving people, Ray
- 10:48Speaker 6: Roberts with us every week. But let's get back to
- 10:51Speaker 6: this game, Panthers.
- 10:52Speaker 4: What it happened? See what happened at first left?
- 10:56Speaker 6: What had happened was unhoked dog A little bit of
- 11:01Speaker 6: a slow start if you're an offensive person. Game first
- 11:03Speaker 6: seven drives featured four field goals in three punts. Of
- 11:07Speaker 6: those seven drive the Seahawks put together three long drives
- 11:09Speaker 6: but were unable to convert in the red zone. Settling
- 11:12Speaker 6: for three field goals to get this game going. And
- 11:16Speaker 6: you know, the Panthers actually would be the first one
- 11:19Speaker 6: to get in the end zone after a blown coverage
- 11:21Speaker 6: by the Seahawks was led to a forty seven yard
- 11:23Speaker 6: touchdown by DJ Chark, which made the score ten to
- 11:25Speaker 6: nine Panthers. Not the start bump I was expecting. Obviously,
- 11:29Speaker 6: the Seahawks bounce back, but I was kind of expecting
- 11:31Speaker 6: them to kind of jump all over the Panthers in
- 11:33Speaker 6: a rough environment. It just took a little bit of
- 11:35Speaker 6: time to get things going.
- 11:37Speaker 8: Yeah, did man and that play.
- 11:38Speaker 9: When you get a breakdown in the coverage like that,
- 11:42Speaker 9: it hurts, but you're thinking, Okay, we can fix that.
- 11:44Speaker 9: It's not like they did something to out scheme us
- 11:46Speaker 9: and we were confused. It was a miscommunication. But Gino
- 11:50Speaker 9: didn't help the situation, right. He throws his first interception
- 11:53Speaker 9: to Dion Jones, who the Panthers just picked up. And
- 11:56Speaker 9: on that throw right there, I saw him looking inside
- 11:58Speaker 9: to Jaysin. Shouldn't have been looking in that direction anyway,
- 12:01Speaker 9: because he's running a slam into a backer. I don't
- 12:06Speaker 9: want to say he saw ghost, but I want to
- 12:08Speaker 9: say that he just wasn't aware of what was going
- 12:10Speaker 9: on around him, so that play gap all mixed up.
- 12:14Speaker 9: After the pick, the Hawks would answer it eleven play
- 12:16Speaker 9: fifty four yard driver, but once again have to settle
- 12:18Speaker 9: four field goals, trying thirteen to twelve. As a teams
- 12:21Speaker 9: went into halftime, and there's two ways you can feel
- 12:24Speaker 9: about it. You were thinking, Okay, we let some get biased,
- 12:28Speaker 9: we let some points on the board, or we're fortunate
- 12:30Speaker 9: to even be in this situation with everything that's going
- 12:32Speaker 9: on in the first half.
- 12:33Speaker 4: You're absolutely right.
- 12:34Speaker 6: And this is kind of a similar halftime, not the
- 12:36Speaker 6: exact same, but the same thing about the Rams game.
- 12:38Speaker 6: Almost in a sense Ram games you were up, but
- 12:41Speaker 6: a similar kind of game where you're like, Okay, we
- 12:43Speaker 6: probably should be behead by more points, and you know
- 12:46Speaker 6: you can, like you said, you can go into the
- 12:47Speaker 6: halftime feel kind of bad about it, or you can
- 12:49Speaker 6: go out and do what the Seahawks did. And this
- 12:51Speaker 6: time definitely different than the Rams game. Second half great
- 12:54Speaker 6: one for the Hawks. Opening drive, the Hawks marched down
- 12:57Speaker 6: for a field goal after they saw that in the
- 12:59Speaker 6: red zone. Jason and Myers kicked the field goal that
- 13:02Speaker 6: made them go up fifteen to thirteen about five field
- 13:05Speaker 6: goals for Jason Myers. Good for him, dog Man, good
- 13:08Speaker 6: for him. He's been going through it.
- 13:10Speaker 8: Need to see that.
- 13:11Speaker 6: For sure, they need it. But the cool part about
- 13:13Speaker 6: that was Bump. That was the last time the Hawks
- 13:15Speaker 6: would trail. The Panthers would miss a field goal and
- 13:18Speaker 6: the Hawks will take advantage with their first touchdown drive
- 13:20Speaker 6: of the day, set up by a thirty six yard
- 13:22Speaker 6: pass from ken Walker or two ken Walker from Geno
- 13:25Speaker 6: Smith down the sideline boom. A couple plays later, he's
- 13:28Speaker 6: in the end zone one yard touchdown, making the score
- 13:30Speaker 6: twenty two to thirteen. Panthers on the ensuing drive, answers
- 13:33Speaker 6: right back with a nine play seventy five yard drive
- 13:35Speaker 6: ending a Miles Sanders one yard touchdown, making the score
- 13:39Speaker 6: twenty two to twenty. Bump, but not after that, looks
- 13:41Speaker 6: like the Seahawks kind of put this into another gear now.
- 13:44Speaker 8: The Hawks kept things rolling.
- 13:46Speaker 3: Man.
- 13:46Speaker 9: They go six plays, sixty nine yards and ken Walker
- 13:49Speaker 9: finds the enzo again for his second time.
- 13:52Speaker 8: After two punts in the turnover on down.
- 13:53Speaker 9: Seahawks would deliver the final nail in the coffin takes
- 13:57Speaker 9: five plays, Geno finds a receiver in the back of
- 14:00Speaker 9: the end zone.
- 14:01Speaker 8: That receiver Jake Bobo.
- 14:04Speaker 9: You know, every time he makes a play, I'm just
- 14:05Speaker 9: gonna pap myself in the back because I've been talking
- 14:07Speaker 9: about this dude.
- 14:07Speaker 8: Since he was picked up as a free age and
- 14:10Speaker 8: so I'm excited about that man.
- 14:11Speaker 9: The final drive would be sure that went five places,
- 14:14Speaker 9: twenty seven yards, and then in a touchdown, the Hawks
- 14:16Speaker 9: will go up thirty seven to twenty and would win
- 14:18Speaker 9: by a score of thirty seven to twenty seven.
- 14:22Speaker 8: Pete Carroll did some things this game.
- 14:25Speaker 4: That's what he do.
- 14:26Speaker 6: Tied Mike Holmgren. Another respect to the gu who'sould be
- 14:29Speaker 6: in the Hall of Fame. I don't even need to
- 14:31Speaker 6: beat that drum anymore. Everyone in their moms knows that.
- 14:34Speaker 6: But he tied Mike Holgren for fifteen play on place
- 14:36Speaker 6: on the NFL's all time winning his coaches list with
- 14:39Speaker 6: one hundred and seventy four of them. Things bump one
- 14:41Speaker 6: hundred and seventy four wins. Definitely good to see coach
- 14:44Speaker 6: getting on that list. He's got a lot more wins
- 14:46Speaker 6: that'd be have had here in Seattle, so definitely good
- 14:48Speaker 6: to see that. Another cool thing about that game, the
- 14:51Speaker 6: Hawks defense shut down the run once again, hoping the
- 14:53Speaker 6: Panthers are forty four yards in just three point one
- 14:56Speaker 6: yards per carry.
- 14:58Speaker 4: So it's been three games. Week's bump.
- 15:00Speaker 6: They're shutting the run defense down. You know, after three
- 15:02Speaker 6: games it starts to become reality. It's not a fluke.
- 15:05Speaker 6: So definitely love to see that. But let's get into
- 15:08Speaker 6: the guys that made some plays. Playmakers touchdown, playmakers told
- 15:16Speaker 6: him what.
- 15:17Speaker 7: Time it is?
- 15:18Speaker 9: Ho Wait, all right, first I got we're talking about
- 15:24Speaker 9: Geno Smith twenty three and thirty six two ninety six
- 15:28Speaker 9: one touchdown and had an interception. We talked about that thing.
- 15:32Speaker 9: We're not gonna see interceptions like that again from Gino.
- 15:34Speaker 9: The first half was a bit of a struggle. Second
- 15:36Speaker 9: half he gets some things together. He goes twelve to
- 15:39Speaker 9: thirteen for one forty three and one touchdown.
- 15:42Speaker 8: One of the passes that he made.
- 15:44Speaker 9: Or the Tyler Lockett for a two point conversion, and
- 15:47Speaker 9: that was a Russell Wilson type play. I thought about that.
- 15:51Speaker 9: I go, that's some stuff Russell was gonna do back
- 15:53Speaker 9: in the day. We're all the way to the right,
- 15:55Speaker 9: just toss it up in the air, pray for forgiveness
- 15:58Speaker 9: and Tyler Lockett comes down with the football. If it
- 15:59Speaker 9: was it's a two point conversion, I don't think he
- 16:01Speaker 9: would have done that, but he's like, hey, you know what,
- 16:02Speaker 9: let's go ahead and and try something.
- 16:05Speaker 6: Not only was it a Russell wilskon s esque, but
- 16:08Speaker 6: it was shades of the twenty fifteen twenty fourteen season
- 16:11Speaker 6: NFC Championship Game, the two point conversion of Luke Wilson.
- 16:14Speaker 6: I think some of the reporters brought that up in
- 16:16Speaker 6: the post game where you're kind of rolling right to
- 16:18Speaker 6: leth and I won't say throwing up or prayer, but
- 16:20Speaker 6: throwing it up and just hoping good things happen, and
- 16:22Speaker 6: they did so shout out to gg know Smith. That's
- 16:25Speaker 6: definitely a good, good look on that first game there.
- 16:28Speaker 6: And then bump ken Walker. Man, we've been waiting to
- 16:31Speaker 6: see this. You know, he hasn't gotten the carries we'd
- 16:34Speaker 6: hoped he'd get. Kind of started that way last week,
- 16:36Speaker 6: which was good. But eighteen carries ninety seven yards, two touchdowns.
- 16:40Speaker 6: Then he has three receptions for fifty nine yards and
- 16:42Speaker 6: that is a ken Walker that we see, we know,
- 16:45Speaker 6: we love and bump when he put that move on.
- 16:47Speaker 6: I believe the defensive back oh my goodness, oh my goodness.
- 16:51Speaker 9: Snatching ankles, and it just shows his versatility, man like,
- 16:56Speaker 9: because when you look at ken Walker, you look at
- 16:58Speaker 9: him and you think, okay, he's a star. He's strong, runner,
- 17:01Speaker 9: gonna get north south, gonna hit that speed, which is true.
- 17:04Speaker 9: But once he gets comfortable, he starts doing things like that.
- 17:08Speaker 9: That's a whole another dynamic that keeps defenders on their toes, no.
- 17:13Speaker 4: Question about it. These two are scary.
- 17:15Speaker 6: Bump because the other guy I want to get to,
- 17:17Speaker 6: Zach Charbonne nine carries forty six yards and bump.
- 17:20Speaker 4: Can you tell me why?
- 17:21Speaker 6: Every time he touches the ball, every yard he gets
- 17:24Speaker 6: feels like they are tough. They're the hardest yards in
- 17:26Speaker 6: the game. And then defenders are like, yo, I don't
- 17:28Speaker 6: want to tackle that dude anymore, man like, get him
- 17:30Speaker 6: off the field.
- 17:31Speaker 8: And he puts it on film.
- 17:33Speaker 9: Man, So again we talk about ken Walker, run through you,
- 17:36Speaker 9: run by you. Zach Sharvine has put some stuff on
- 17:39Speaker 9: film to where defenders are going to try to hit
- 17:41Speaker 9: him low. They're going to be hesitant when he's run
- 17:43Speaker 9: out the A and to B. But yeah, Zach Scharboney
- 17:46Speaker 9: runs angry and he's not an angry dude. Met the guy
- 17:48Speaker 9: hawks fove not angry dude, real calm, but something happens
- 17:51Speaker 9: when he puts the pads on him. DK Metcalf had
- 17:53Speaker 9: himself a day two six receptions for one hundred and
- 17:55Speaker 9: twelve yards. He had three big plays in the passing
- 17:58Speaker 9: game that went for nineteen yards or more. He had
- 18:01Speaker 9: the first real exposive play of the game when they're
- 18:04Speaker 9: going towards the north end zone, sits down in his zone,
- 18:07Speaker 9: nice little fifteen yard curl.
- 18:08Speaker 8: Once I saw that go down, I go good.
- 18:11Speaker 9: Get DK going early, and let's see how the how
- 18:14Speaker 9: he evolves throughout the day.
- 18:15Speaker 8: If there's such thing as a.
- 18:16Speaker 9: Quiet one to twelve, it was a quiet one twelve
- 18:18Speaker 9: because so many other things are going on with the
- 18:20Speaker 9: running back and the defense. But we needed to see
- 18:23Speaker 9: a game like this from DK Metcalf, no.
- 18:26Speaker 4: Question about it.
- 18:26Speaker 6: We know what he can do, we know how talented
- 18:28Speaker 6: he is, and what I love too is like even
- 18:31Speaker 6: if it wasn't drives where they scored touchdowns, he was
- 18:33Speaker 6: making big plays and even on those field goal drives
- 18:35Speaker 6: to at least help flip field position and keeping guys honest,
- 18:38Speaker 6: because I still don't feel like we've even really scratched
- 18:41Speaker 6: the service with the potential of this offense, which is
- 18:43Speaker 6: scary because they just scored thirty seven points and they
- 18:45Speaker 6: scored over thirty points last week.
- 18:47Speaker 4: So definitely good to see there.
- 18:49Speaker 6: Then there's the rookie Devin Witherspoon man coming out party.
- 18:52Speaker 6: I think you know he gets his feet wet against
- 18:55Speaker 6: Detroit last week, but this week was he was unreal
- 18:58Speaker 6: man leven tackles, eight solo, led the team, two passes defended,
- 19:02Speaker 6: he was targeted eleven times, only allowed three receptions for
- 19:06Speaker 6: nineteen yards. And he's the guy that just has that
- 19:09Speaker 6: I wouldn't even almost say quiet. He has a guy
- 19:11Speaker 6: that has that loud confidence. He will let you know
- 19:13Speaker 6: about every single play he's making, and you can just
- 19:15Speaker 6: see the difference when he's out there. He's confident when
- 19:19Speaker 6: he makes a move, when he breaks on a ball,
- 19:21Speaker 6: it's decisive. There's no hesitancy in his football game at all.
- 19:25Speaker 6: So I love to see what he brings to this
- 19:27Speaker 6: offense and what he's brought in just two weeks.
- 19:30Speaker 9: Yeah, he believes in what he's doing and what he's
- 19:32Speaker 9: seeing and there's no denying twenty one is here to stay.
- 19:36Speaker 8: It's gonna be fun watching him now.
- 19:38Speaker 9: The guy is Jay Reed, Jaran reed Man. One of
- 19:40Speaker 9: his better games as a Seawk. He was active from jump.
- 19:43Speaker 9: He had eight tackles, one pass defendant, one and a
- 19:46Speaker 9: half sacks, one TfL, three quarterback hits. When I found
- 19:51Speaker 9: out he was going to be moved to like that
- 19:53Speaker 9: nose tackle, I'm thinking, I don't know if that's going
- 19:55Speaker 9: to be the right fit for him. Obviously, the coaching
- 19:57Speaker 9: staff know way more about him than I do, and
- 20:00Speaker 9: as he gets more comfortable, he's gonna start.
- 20:02Speaker 8: Making more plays. Man, you love seeing ninety in the backfield, no.
- 20:06Speaker 6: Question about it, doing a little dance, trying to show
- 20:09Speaker 6: some respects in love to Mike b and Brandon me Bain.
- 20:11Speaker 6: So good to see him doing that, because if Jay
- 20:13Speaker 6: Reed's dancing, that means he's in the backfield being active.
- 20:16Speaker 4: So I love to see that. And then I alluded
- 20:18Speaker 4: to it earlier Jason Myers.
- 20:20Speaker 6: He was going through a little bit three missed field
- 20:22Speaker 6: goals and we almost forgot this guy set a record
- 20:25Speaker 6: last year for most consecutive field goals made. Jason Myers
- 20:27Speaker 6: has been nails for the Seahawks. There's a reason he
- 20:29Speaker 6: got signed to an extension.
- 20:31Speaker 4: He is legit.
- 20:32Speaker 6: I know a lot of people love this analogy where
- 20:34Speaker 6: they think once a kicker starts missing a couple of
- 20:36Speaker 6: field goals, he's just bad forever. Jason Myers is no
- 20:40Speaker 6: come on man, he's way too manyally tough for that
- 20:42Speaker 6: five to five on field goals. He was only three
- 20:43Speaker 6: or six coming in. So just happy to see Jason
- 20:45Speaker 6: Myers hit a couple of big kicks because you know
- 20:47Speaker 6: you're gonna.
- 20:48Speaker 4: Need him as the season goes on.
- 20:50Speaker 8: Yup, and last one, we got to get some love
- 20:52Speaker 8: to the twelves.
- 20:53Speaker 9: They calls eight false starts, the first time that's happened
- 20:57Speaker 9: in the.
- 20:57Speaker 8: Game since twenty eleven.
- 20:59Speaker 9: Ben It was, and you could feel the crowd kind
- 21:03Speaker 9: of understanding their role in this game as one false
- 21:07Speaker 9: start happens, then another false start happens. Now they're tapping
- 21:11Speaker 9: hut and shower like, hey, y'all see that, Hey, we're
- 21:13Speaker 9: in this game. So I was reminded why there is
- 21:16Speaker 9: a twelfth man flag and why the number twelve is
- 21:18Speaker 9: retired because the fans earn that jersey man.
- 21:22Speaker 8: They showed out, no.
- 21:23Speaker 6: Question about it, and it's one after another because it's like,
- 21:26Speaker 6: at the beginning of the game, we know they're gonna
- 21:28Speaker 6: be loud on defense and the Super Bowl team's coming back.
- 21:30Speaker 6: But once people feel like you said that they're affecting
- 21:33Speaker 6: the game, they just ratcheted up and it was loud.
- 21:36Speaker 6: I was sitting there thinking like, okay, I get it
- 21:38Speaker 6: from the tackle and then you start panicking. I think, right,
- 21:40Speaker 6: Texadus while I was happening, goes man, I've had a
- 21:42Speaker 6: game right, had three fall star penalties. It sucks, man,
- 21:45Speaker 6: And you watch it when it's u on two plays
- 21:47Speaker 6: in a row and everyone look at you like bro
- 21:49Speaker 6: with silent, we're going on too. I get it, and
- 21:52Speaker 6: there's a lot going on. So definitely love to see
- 21:54Speaker 6: the Twelves balling out, and the Seahawks need it because
- 21:57Speaker 6: there haven't been a great home field advantage in recent years,
- 22:00Speaker 6: which it was is kind of surprising to say out loud,
- 22:02Speaker 6: but I hoping. I'm glad to see the Twelves get
- 22:04Speaker 6: after it and the Seahaw's gonna get back to winning
- 22:06Speaker 6: at home. So great to see bump. While we do that,
- 22:09Speaker 6: let's transition over to the wide receiver roundup. How'd our
- 22:12Speaker 6: boys look out there?
- 22:13Speaker 4: All right?
- 22:13Speaker 3: Man?
- 22:13Speaker 8: DJ did this thing?
- 22:14Speaker 9: Eight target, six catches, one hundred and twelve yards, no touchdowns.
- 22:18Speaker 9: Kenneth Walker he had one hundred and fifty six yards total,
- 22:20Speaker 9: fifty nine of them were through the air. He had
- 22:23Speaker 9: three catches on three targets. No Offen had himself a
- 22:26Speaker 9: good day, four for forty one. Kobe Parkinson tight ends
- 22:29Speaker 9: in general. Man, Like, I know Disley wasn't out there,
- 22:32Speaker 9: but you look at what noa Fen and Kobe Parkson did.
- 22:34Speaker 9: I felt really good about the tes man. Parkinson had
- 22:37Speaker 9: three for thirty eight. Tyler Lockett three for thirty four,
- 22:40Speaker 9: had a couple of drops that I know we're not
- 22:41Speaker 9: gonna see happen two often. Then Jackson Smith and Jagba
- 22:44Speaker 9: had one for ten. I'm trying to calm people down,
- 22:47Speaker 9: like he's gonna be okay. He's the third option. He's young.
- 22:50Speaker 9: It's not like people are trying to compare him to
- 22:53Speaker 9: I Zay Flowers or these other guys who have to
- 22:55Speaker 9: produce for this team to win.
- 22:56Speaker 8: That's just not his role right now. I think he's
- 22:58Speaker 8: gonna be fine.
- 23:00Speaker 9: We'll had one cast for a touchdown, first touchhout of
- 23:02Speaker 9: his career. Congratulations, and then I'm not gonna mention running
- 23:05Speaker 9: backs because I got some negatives there, so forget that.
- 23:07Speaker 8: Let's just move on to the next one.
- 23:09Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, you know, it's good.
- 23:10Speaker 6: And like I said last week, it's always good to
- 23:12Speaker 6: see the love being spread around to multiple receivers. So
- 23:14Speaker 6: they're definitely doing their thing out there, and it's been
- 23:16Speaker 6: a great offensive output.
- 23:18Speaker 4: But we'll keep it in the receiving core.
- 23:19Speaker 6: As we jump into the coaches corner, as Gino Smith
- 23:22Speaker 6: finds Jake Bobo for that first in ever so sweet
- 23:25Speaker 6: NFL touchdown.
- 23:27Speaker 2: On second down and goal now from the five play fake,
- 23:30Speaker 2: Gino's gonna throw.
- 23:31Speaker 5: Back at the end zone, reaching up, make you the catch.
- 23:34Speaker 5: It's it a touchdown, a touchdown, Seahawks. We're still waiting, Yes, touchdown, Seahawks.
- 23:46Speaker 5: Shake Bobo high, throw back line of the ms on.
- 23:50Speaker 1: It took the official forever.
- 23:54Speaker 10: And he drags that toenail in from five yards his
- 23:58Speaker 10: first career touchdown, Jake Bobo in the back of the
- 24:03Speaker 10: end zone.
- 24:04Speaker 6: Congratulations, there it is bump Man, the guy Bubo. You've
- 24:08Speaker 6: been screaming from the mountain top since the preseason, since
- 24:11Speaker 6: he stepped in the facility that he's gonna be a
- 24:12Speaker 6: legit player.
- 24:13Speaker 4: What did you see on this play bump?
- 24:14Speaker 9: Yeah, so you get down inside the you're like on
- 24:17Speaker 9: the five yard line, maybe right outside the five on
- 24:19Speaker 9: a six, but you got two tight ends to the
- 24:21Speaker 9: right side.
- 24:21Speaker 8: They're gonna motion no offent over to Jake Bubbo.
- 24:24Speaker 9: He's tight to the line of Scrimma stealing the two
- 24:26Speaker 9: point stands and said, Noah fen on a flat.
- 24:29Speaker 8: That kind of expands the corner over there, and.
- 24:32Speaker 9: You got one on one with Jake Bubbo and either
- 24:34Speaker 9: safety or a nickel. But what sells it is you
- 24:37Speaker 9: guy Zak Charbonnay in the backfield, and because he runs
- 24:39Speaker 9: so hard, because he can get downhill, they playfake to
- 24:42Speaker 9: him and that Mike linebacker steps up. There's no safety behind,
- 24:46Speaker 9: there's no safety. There's this one level we used to
- 24:48Speaker 9: call that like cover seven. Everyone's standing across the goal
- 24:51Speaker 9: line and you don't move. But the mic back bites
- 24:54Speaker 9: on the playfake Bubble does an okay job kind of
- 24:58Speaker 9: selling something.
- 25:00Speaker 8: He's selling the run.
- 25:00Speaker 9: He's not blocking, but he kind of puts the defender
- 25:02Speaker 9: to sleep and he shakes him and now it's just
- 25:05Speaker 9: throw it up to the middle of the end zone,
- 25:08Speaker 9: Jake Bubbo, you.
- 25:09Speaker 8: Go get it.
- 25:10Speaker 9: The best part about this he catches the ball, He
- 25:12Speaker 9: jumps so high, catches the ball, looks down lowcates where
- 25:16Speaker 9: out of balance is, and just goes almost lamp and
- 25:20Speaker 9: gets the toenails in. As Steve Rabel just described it,
- 25:25Speaker 9: it was a more of I gotta match up my
- 25:27Speaker 9: guys athletic. He's taller, I'm gonna throw it up. But
- 25:30Speaker 9: that play fake helps sell the whole thing.
- 25:33Speaker 6: Yeah, And what I love about a Bump too, is
- 25:35Speaker 6: you said it wasn't. I love his just patience in it, right,
- 25:38Speaker 6: because if you know, thinking a rookie year guy in
- 25:40Speaker 6: his situation, knowing that he might be the number one
- 25:44Speaker 6: option on this play, might might rush that first part
- 25:46Speaker 6: a little bit, give the dB a little bit of
- 25:48Speaker 6: a chance to stay on top. But he loads him
- 25:50Speaker 6: to sleep. And honestly, it probably feels, you know, bump
- 25:53Speaker 6: as a receiver. That probably felt like seven seconds and
- 25:55Speaker 6: he's kind of waiting, puts his foot in the ground,
- 25:57Speaker 6: gets in the end zone.
- 25:58Speaker 4: I'm all for it. Love me some, Jake Bobba.
- 26:00Speaker 6: So you know more to I mean It's funny because
- 26:05Speaker 6: when you're in the preseason, you're talking about guys like
- 26:07Speaker 6: that everyone loves. You know those preseason stories where it's
- 26:10Speaker 6: kind of like, oh, you fall in love with them,
- 26:11Speaker 6: then they disappear. Well, people got to fall in love
- 26:13Speaker 6: with Bobo, and you're gonna continue to get more Bobo
- 26:16Speaker 6: as the season rolls on. But man, bumb you know
- 26:18Speaker 6: what time it is, favorite favorite formation in football.
- 26:23Speaker 2: Here comes the Seahawks offense onto the field and the
- 26:25Speaker 2: Vikings defense crunching out there knowing that one meal down
- 26:31Speaker 2: and the Seahawks are gonna wind the clock down.
- 26:34Speaker 3: And win this one.
- 26:35Speaker 1: It's the victory formation.
- 26:36Speaker 6: On Hawk Talk, Gino Smith did his thing second half
- 26:41Speaker 6: twelve to thirteen, one hundred and forty three yards, one touchdown.
- 26:44Speaker 6: He was on top of his thing once again two
- 26:46Speaker 6: weeks in a row. The Hawks also ran the ball
- 26:49Speaker 6: really well. Rushed for one hundred and forty three yards
- 26:50Speaker 6: as a team, two touchdowns. DK Metcalf had a big day,
- 26:53Speaker 6: came up big with three explosive plays in the past game.
- 26:56Speaker 6: I said it earlier. This team is just touching the surface,
- 26:59Speaker 6: scratching the surface. When it comes to how good they
- 27:01Speaker 6: can be. Offensively and they shared to show that on Sunday.
- 27:04Speaker 9: Yeah, they showed him man with all those explosive with
- 27:06Speaker 9: from DK and then Ken Walker. It was good, but
- 27:09Speaker 9: you got a tipper hat to the old line man
- 27:11Speaker 9: down three starters. They did a pretty good job against
- 27:15Speaker 9: the Panthers. We talked about their box all week about
- 27:17Speaker 9: how great they are even with the loss of Thompson.
- 27:20Speaker 9: They look good on defensive Hawks shut down the run
- 27:22Speaker 9: once again, only allowing three point one per care. They're
- 27:25Speaker 9: only allowing like seventy something yards per game with a
- 27:27Speaker 9: ground so far from the year. It was awesome. And
- 27:29Speaker 9: then Devin Witherspoon is for real. He's gonna be here
- 27:33Speaker 9: for a long time.
- 27:34Speaker 8: I believe it.
- 27:35Speaker 9: I know it's only been two games. I've seen enough.
- 27:37Speaker 9: I'm bought in. Hopefully one of my kids. Once his jersey,
- 27:40Speaker 9: I will buy it for him.
- 27:42Speaker 6: Hey man, this defense is about to get healthy. Devin Witherspoon,
- 27:45Speaker 6: Pete Carrolsey, Jamal Adams is going to be back. Triegu
- 27:47Speaker 6: Woom might come back. You have Kuandrey Diggs ready out there,
