Latest / Hutton & Withrow Show / Hutton & Withrow: Titans Hit Rock Bottom: Is It Time to Bench Cam Ward? | Hour 1
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: We are out of the gates on sport and state.
- 0:02Speaker 1: Glad you're with us this Monday morning. We're presented by
- 0:05Speaker 1: Hard Rock Bet. He's Chad Withrow. I'm Jonathan Hutton. Hutton
- 0:09Speaker 1: and Withrow. And a lot to get to today. Chad's
- 0:12Speaker 1: back from Knoxville. I'm back from Texas. And there's plenty
- 0:16Speaker 1: of headlines across college football and the NFL. Chad, good
- 0:19Speaker 1: morning to you. Good morning, Hutton.
- 0:21Speaker 2: Good to be back here with you on this Monday morning.
- 0:24Speaker 2: Not a great morning or outlook for the Tennessee Titans.
- 0:28Speaker 2: After what we saw yesterday.
- 0:29Speaker 1: No. Same as usual, right? We could go in on what?
- 0:33Speaker 1: Three years now? Four years? Of just pure basement level,
- 0:38Speaker 1: basement dwelling franchise. Par for the course is what I
- 0:43Speaker 1: would call it. And the weather lived up to the
- 0:46Speaker 1: team yesterday. Just rainy, dull, dreary. Not much hope.
- 0:52Speaker 2: It was the final drive of the first half before
- 0:54Speaker 2: the Titans collected their first first down. I mean, at
- 0:58Speaker 2: one point they had run like 17 plays for six.
- 1:01Speaker 1: Yards at some point in this game.
- 1:04Speaker 2: They were about to match the 2018 Buffalo Bills for
- 1:07Speaker 2: the last team. And that was the first week of
- 1:09Speaker 2: the regular season for the first NFL team to not
- 1:12Speaker 2: have a first down in a first half of a
- 1:15Speaker 2: game in that one. I mean, the moment you think
- 1:19Speaker 2: a team that talks about, you know, this is their
- 1:21Speaker 2: floor when they started the season, they're only going to
- 1:23Speaker 2: build up from it. It feels like a team digging
- 1:25Speaker 2: a basement right now and going further and further down.
- 1:29Speaker 2: Week two, a lot of fans wanted to highlight a
- 1:31Speaker 2: moral victory because they played close with the Philadelphia Eagles,
- 1:34Speaker 2: and it looked better than that home loss to the
- 1:36Speaker 2: Jets in week one, which it did. A close loss
- 1:39Speaker 2: to the Eagles does look better than getting dominated by
- 1:42Speaker 2: the New York Jets. Then you erase whatever goodwill you had,
- 1:45Speaker 2: which was very little, by going out, and I don't
- 1:48Speaker 2: care about the weather. I saw a team in the
- 1:50Speaker 2: New York Giants, that Jameis Winston, as their starting quarterback,
- 1:54Speaker 2: who Jameis Winston has been known to either go off
- 1:56Speaker 2: or be terrible. He was neither of those things, but
- 1:59Speaker 2: he also wasn't very good. And that Giants offense isn't good,
- 2:02Speaker 2: and that team isn't very good. And the Titans had
- 2:05Speaker 2: every opportunity to win the game, and instead it ends
- 2:07Speaker 2: with Cam Ward. I don't even know if that's a
- 2:11Speaker 2: YOLO pass. I don't know what that is when you're
- 2:14Speaker 2: watching Cam Ward on that final play, Hutton. It was miserable.
- 2:17Speaker 1: It wasn't YOLO. I know that. It was BS. Those
- 2:23Speaker 1: are the words I can give it. It was bullshit,
- 2:26Speaker 1: what he did. And look, he's not good, Chad. He's
- 2:31Speaker 1: not good. They have now, through three weeks, completely ended
- 2:38Speaker 1: all of the talk of, do the Titans have their
- 2:41Speaker 1: franchise quarterback? They don't. They don't. This is a team
- 2:45Speaker 1: that is the worst team in the National Football League.
- 2:48Speaker 1: It's not even close. I'm watching the Miami Dolphins be
- 2:52Speaker 1: more competitive against the Kansas City Chiefs right now. Not
- 2:57Speaker 1: even close. You've got the head coach making excuses for
- 3:00Speaker 1: Cam Ward. You have the offensive coordinator who acts like
- 3:04Speaker 1: he can't do anything, like he's talking to a different
- 3:06Speaker 1: quarterback on the headset whenever they show him in the
- 3:09Speaker 1: booth because he's getting so frustrated. And now all of
- 3:14Speaker 1: a sudden you have Jeffrey Simmons who says this needs
- 3:16Speaker 1: to be less talk, more action.
- 3:18Speaker 3: Okay.
- 3:18Speaker 1: Okay. Okay, Mr. BTA. You know? Okay.
- 3:24Speaker 3: Gotcha.
- 3:25Speaker 1: It was about a month removed from whenever the Seattle
- 3:27Speaker 1: Seahawks came through town. And everybody was wanting to talk trash.
- 3:31Speaker 1: The media is echoing whatever is being said. And I mean, look,
- 3:36Speaker 1: I'm liking what's being said. I'm liking what I'm hearing.
- 3:38Speaker 1: And now those that were even wanting to speak don't
- 3:40Speaker 1: want to speak because they're so embarrassed about their quarterback,
- 3:43Speaker 1: their offense, and where this team is. They are pathetic.
- 3:47Speaker 1: They are pathetic. And I'm getting tired of watching them,
- 3:51Speaker 1: quite frankly.
- 3:53Speaker 2: I think you're echoing what a lot of people who
- 3:56Speaker 2: have followed this team and people in Nashville are thinking
- 3:59Speaker 2: about the Titans. I was seeing Clay post about it yesterday,
- 4:02Speaker 2: who is a season ticket holder, who actually pays money
- 4:04Speaker 2: to go to those games. The people that pay money
- 4:06Speaker 2: to go to Titans games with this 0-3 start after
- 4:10Speaker 2: going up to Jersey and looking like complete ass. This
- 4:13Speaker 2: is not I ass or we ass. It's complete ass now.
- 4:16Speaker 2: Top down. I mean, coaching staff, too. Brian Dayball could
- 4:20Speaker 2: sit there and pound the table all he wants in
- 4:23Speaker 2: the booth, but his offense is an absolute train wreck.
- 4:26Speaker 1: Well, his offense is being led by a quarterback throwing
- 4:29Speaker 1: a pick on the final play to no one. I mean,
- 4:32Speaker 1: Brian Dayball's not calling that play, Chad. Yeah.
- 4:35Speaker 2: Well, and let's get to the final play also, Hutton,
- 4:37Speaker 2: because it's not just that he throws a pick to
- 4:40Speaker 2: no one or that he throws it where he didn't
- 4:42Speaker 2: have to. With time left, he could have taken off
- 4:44Speaker 2: and run and may have gotten close to a touchdown.
- 4:47Speaker 1: He could have chucked it out of bounds.
- 4:48Speaker 2: So many things he could have done on that play
- 4:50Speaker 2: instead of throwing a lob pass to Javon Holland, who
- 4:53Speaker 2: barely had to jump.
- 4:54Speaker 1: To get it.
- 4:55Speaker 2: He didn't make some spectacular catch in the end zone. Hutton,
- 4:59Speaker 2: the biggest problem I continue to have with Cam Ward
- 5:01Speaker 2: and his play speaks for.
- 5:03Speaker 1: Itself and it speaks loudly.
- 5:04Speaker 2: It's awful. But it's responses like this postgame when he's
- 5:09Speaker 2: asked by Paul Koharski about that final play.
- 5:12Speaker 1: Here's Cam Ward.
- 5:14Speaker 3: I mean, just bad because, you know, in my mind,
- 5:17Speaker 3: one play can sum it up.
- 5:19Speaker 1: But, you know, we had a lot of plays that,
- 5:20Speaker 1: you know, wouldn't.
- 5:21Speaker 3: Have even had us, you know, as a team in
- 5:23Speaker 3: that situation. But, you know, the things that was good today,
- 5:27Speaker 3: the things that, you know, was bad today, we got
- 5:28Speaker 3: to start a better offense.
- 5:29Speaker 1: We got to help the defense out.
- 5:31Speaker 3: And I think, you know, just continue to, you know,
- 5:33Speaker 3: once I get a chance to watch the film, just see,
- 5:35Speaker 3: you know, what things we can better at.
- 5:38Speaker 2: I mean, it's not one play. You know, a lot
- 5:42Speaker 2: of plays out there, you know, good, bad off. We
- 5:44Speaker 2: got to start out better offensively. Just got to go
- 5:45Speaker 2: back and watch the film and see it. And I
- 5:49Speaker 2: know that Paul, I think, had a follow up about
- 5:51Speaker 2: that was like, well, was it a bad decision or
- 5:54Speaker 2: was it a crazy decision to throw it? And he's like, no, no, no.
- 5:56Speaker 2: I just I need to throw a little more air
- 5:59Speaker 2: underneath it on that. It was it was a good
- 6:00Speaker 2: decision to throw it. I'm thinking, what are you talking about?
- 6:03Speaker 2: Of course it was a bad decision. Look at the result.
- 6:06Speaker 2: The game was over the moment you did that. I
- 6:09Speaker 2: get tired of hearing this version of Cam Ward after
- 6:13Speaker 2: every game, and quite frankly speaking at any time, not
- 6:16Speaker 2: just after games and after bad performances.
- 6:20Speaker 1: They have nowhere to go. They have nowhere to go
- 6:24Speaker 1: but up, but yet they continue to dig deeper and
- 6:27Speaker 1: deeper of a hole. It's beyond laughable now. how they
- 6:33Speaker 1: play their post-game comments oh we gotta look at the
- 6:37Speaker 1: film no you don't we don't have to look at
- 6:39Speaker 1: the film to see the type of play that this
- 6:41Speaker 1: this organization is putting out there look around the league
- 6:44Speaker 1: worst team in the NFL period and they're going on
- 6:51Speaker 1: a few years of this now the only reason they
- 6:53Speaker 1: didn't get the number one pick last year is because
- 6:55Speaker 1: for some reason you've got play-by-play announcers and local media
- 6:59Speaker 1: acting like it matters to win games in December Not
- 7:02Speaker 1: whenever you play like this in September, it doesn't. The
- 7:06Speaker 1: march is on. The death march is on for the
- 7:08Speaker 1: number one overall pick for the Tennessee Titans. Cam Ward
- 7:10Speaker 1: will soon be replaced. And the question is, is it
- 7:13Speaker 1: going to be by a good quarterback or one that
- 7:14Speaker 1: can't play? It's well said.
- 7:19Speaker 2: And the question now also becomes, I don't think it's
- 7:23Speaker 2: a question at this point. Mitch Trubisky would give this
- 7:26Speaker 2: team a better chance at success. than Cam Ward. There's
- 7:29Speaker 2: no doubt in my mind, a guy who's a veteran
- 7:31Speaker 2: in the league, who has starts under his belt, who
- 7:34Speaker 2: is not that good or even close to great, but
- 7:37Speaker 2: would be better than Cam Ward.
- 7:39Speaker 1: My question is, why even do it at this point?
- 7:43Speaker 2: Do you want to win games at 0-3 with losing
- 7:47Speaker 2: to the Jets and the Giants? And losing the Giants,
- 7:49Speaker 2: by the way, without Jackson Darth, their starting quarterback. Got
- 7:52Speaker 2: to put that part of it in there also. What
- 7:54Speaker 2: would the point being of we're just going to improve
- 7:57Speaker 2: ourselves to try to win the games? I saw people
- 8:00Speaker 2: online telling me they owe it to the fan base
- 8:03Speaker 2: to try to win games. They owe you a lot
- 8:05Speaker 2: more than that. They owe you with making better draft picks.
- 8:09Speaker 2: It's difficult to not improve in this league. When you're
- 8:12Speaker 2: finishing the way the Titans have and drafting as high
- 8:14Speaker 2: as they have. Look at the Jacksonville Jags for years.
- 8:17Speaker 2: They would be bad for a while, but they were
- 8:19Speaker 2: always drafting so high. Eventually, it was inevitable that you
- 8:22Speaker 2: were going to have enough talent that you were going
- 8:24Speaker 2: to be pretty good. And the Titans don't show any
- 8:26Speaker 2: improvement at all. I guess from a coaching standpoint, you
- 8:30Speaker 2: don't want to put a 1-16 season on the resume
- 8:33Speaker 2: in year one thinking you're probably not going to come back.
- 8:36Speaker 1: Is that the only reason? Yeah, you'll get your ass fired.
- 8:38Speaker 1: You'll get your ass fired. They don't want to go 1-16. But,
- 8:47Speaker 1: I mean, what does this team own this fan base?
- 8:49Speaker 1: This fan base will get nothing and absolutely love it.
- 8:53Speaker 1: Obey the mediocrity. This franchise does nothing for its fans.
- 9:00Speaker 1: They change the uniforms and act like there was a
- 9:03Speaker 1: big survey about it. And then they go out and
- 9:07Speaker 1: do this. They roll this out there. and act like
- 9:10Speaker 1: we're getting better every day. GTFO with that. GTFO. Nothing
- 9:16Speaker 1: is getting better. Top down, from the top down of
- 9:20Speaker 1: the organization, nothing's getting better. They look better on the
- 9:23Speaker 1: field because the uniforms look better. That's it. That's it.
- 9:27Speaker 1: Everything else, worse than the National Football League. Everything else,
- 9:31Speaker 1: worse than the National Football League. It's incredible, too, because....
- 9:38Speaker 2: When you try to talk about a fix with things, right?
- 9:41Speaker 2: Like I like to try to find a solution because
- 9:44Speaker 2: it is so miserable right now. It's tough to see
- 9:46Speaker 2: your way out of the darkness of this team and
- 9:48Speaker 2: this franchise, but it's like, okay, what could happen? What's
- 9:52Speaker 2: the positive that you take away from anything? Where can
- 9:56Speaker 2: this team build? Where can they go? And Hutton, the
- 9:59Speaker 2: only answer I keep coming back to is that when
- 10:01Speaker 2: it's this bad for this long, it's the person at
- 10:05Speaker 2: the very top. And that's where I see hopelessness for
- 10:09Speaker 2: the Titans. Amy Adams Strunk isn't going to sell the team,
- 10:12Speaker 2: to my knowledge. She doesn't have to give it up.
- 10:15Speaker 2: There's no law that forces her not to own the
- 10:17Speaker 2: team that.
- 10:17Speaker 1: She inherited, right?
- 10:19Speaker 2: And this is a top-down issue. Now, Amy Adams started
- 10:23Speaker 2: to go do what she's done in the past and
- 10:25Speaker 2: fire people. And I've got a few names she should
- 10:27Speaker 2: fire that not everybody in the fan base even knows
- 10:30Speaker 2: their names, but probably should be let go at this
- 10:32Speaker 2: point and start over with something new. But this is
- 10:35Speaker 2: a systemic failure that starts at the absolute tippy-top with
- 10:40Speaker 2: ownership also. That's allowed things to go on that has
- 10:43Speaker 2: empowered people that probably shouldn't have the power that they have.
- 10:47Speaker 2: And there's a lot of finger pointing. I feel like
- 10:50Speaker 2: that goes on in that franchise all the time. There's
- 10:53Speaker 2: not a lot of accountability of, hey, this is my
- 10:55Speaker 2: fault and I got to get it right and I
- 10:57Speaker 2: got to be better. It's just a lot of deflection
- 10:59Speaker 2: and or rejecting a media credential when you don't like
- 11:02Speaker 2: criticism that's a little bit too close.
- 11:04Speaker 1: To home on certain things.
- 11:06Speaker 2: But that's the only thing I can think of that's
- 11:08Speaker 2: a possible solution for this team is new ownership. And
- 11:12Speaker 2: that's a really crappy place to be, especially three games
- 11:15Speaker 2: into a season where in year two with a quarterback that,
- 11:19Speaker 2: by the way, you took Warren Moon's number and gave
- 11:22Speaker 2: it to this guy. And that is going to be
- 11:25Speaker 2: looked back as one of the all-time blunders in Titans
- 11:28Speaker 2: organization history. And I feel bad for Warren Moon having
- 11:31Speaker 2: to watch that.
- 11:32Speaker 1: I guess. I don't think people care. I don't think
- 11:33Speaker 1: people even give a side eye to this team anymore.
- 11:38Speaker 1: Look back at all-time blunders. I mean, the blunder is
- 11:41Speaker 1: what we saw yesterday, not what the number they're wearing.
- 11:44Speaker 1: I don't think people even realize that he's wearing Warren
- 11:46Speaker 1: Moon's number. I really don't. I don't think people in
- 11:48Speaker 1: New York have any clue that number one is Warren
- 11:51Speaker 1: Moon because they don't pay any attention to this franchise.
- 11:54Speaker 2: None. Well, the Cleveland Browns are 2-1 also. I mean,
- 11:59Speaker 2: that was always the fallback. I would hear that from
- 12:02Speaker 2: Titans fans, and I'm thinking, you're way off. If you think,
- 12:06Speaker 2: I mean, I got someone cursing at me, sending me
- 12:08Speaker 2: a message at 2.32 a.m. still about this team, but
- 12:11Speaker 2: all they can do is come up with curse words
- 12:13Speaker 2: to people that they don't like in the media because
- 12:15Speaker 2: they're saying exactly.
- 12:16Speaker 1: They'd rather laugh than cry.
- 12:17Speaker 2: And they're saying exactly what they, I'm saying exactly what
- 12:21Speaker 2: they know to be true when they hear it. So
- 12:23Speaker 2: all they can do is then fire off obscenities, the
- 12:25Speaker 2: person saying it, because I'm confirming what their eyes tell
- 12:29Speaker 2: them and what they see and what their brain tells them.
- 12:33Speaker 2: about this team and where they're going, where they're going
- 12:35Speaker 2: is nowhere. Uh, Derek Dooley, who you heard in our
- 12:37Speaker 2: open once said, you know, opportunity is now here, but
- 12:40Speaker 2: it looked like opportunity is nowhere. That's the mantra for
- 12:44Speaker 2: this Tennessee Titans organization right now. Opportunity is, is nowhere
- 12:48Speaker 2: because they continue to dig holes. They can't seem to
- 12:51Speaker 2: get themselves out of it's wild.
- 12:53Speaker 1: One of the things though, is they didn't lose yesterday
- 12:55Speaker 1: because of the number on their Jersey or because of
- 12:58Speaker 1: what their uniforms look like, or because of, uh, Paying
- 13:02Speaker 1: their defensive tackle. Or because Burke Nihill is the team president.
- 13:06Speaker 1: They lost yesterday because they got slapped around. And they
- 13:09Speaker 1: have a quarterback who's incompetent playing the position. They didn't
- 13:12Speaker 1: lose because of Brian Dable's play calling. They didn't lose
- 13:15Speaker 1: because Robert Saul is the head coach. Or because Brian
- 13:17Speaker 1: Callahan is on the opposite sideline. They lost yesterday because
- 13:21Speaker 1: their quarterback can't complete an elementary school, middle school, JV
- 13:26Speaker 1: pass in the end zone. To the number four overall
- 13:29Speaker 1: pick in the NFL draft. They get completed pass to
- 13:33Speaker 1: Cornell taking the third quarter. Wandel Robinson has to go
- 13:37Speaker 1: back against his body to catch a touchdown pass. The
- 13:40Speaker 1: one that he actually caught and actually completed in this game.
- 13:44Speaker 1: And then he's completing better throws to Holland, the safety,
- 13:52Speaker 1: than he has any of his receivers in this game.
- 13:54Speaker 1: That's why they lost. It has nothing to do with
- 13:55Speaker 1: the number one on his jersey. It's the negative one
- 13:59Speaker 1: that he's playing with every single week. I mean, the
- 14:02Speaker 1: new floor, this is our floor. And I said, you
- 14:06Speaker 1: can go down, too. Parking garages have 3A, 3B, 3C, 3D. Yes.
- 14:11Speaker 1: I've said this before. They continue to reset their floor.
- 14:15Speaker 1: This is their floor. And before you mock it, just
- 14:18Speaker 1: get ready because you'll be trying to come up with
- 14:20Speaker 1: new ways to describe next week's game because they're going
- 14:23Speaker 1: to get their asses kicked in, too, against Baltimore.
- 14:26Speaker 2: Like 4B, you know, is that where we are right now?
- 14:29Speaker 2: If it was the basement level? Now we're in B4.
- 14:33Speaker 2: We've gone underground. We're in a subterranean government-built unit to
- 14:37Speaker 2: protect yourself from a nuclear war. That's how far below
- 14:41Speaker 2: the floor we are right now for the Titans. Get
- 14:43Speaker 2: back to my point on the Cleveland Browns. The Cleveland
- 14:45Speaker 2: Browns are 2-1. And after the first week, Mike Tomlin
- 14:48Speaker 2: on NBC is saying, you know, the Browns are going
- 14:50Speaker 2: to Browns. And then Todd Muckins, you know, pissed off
- 14:53Speaker 2: about that and said, yeah, that day is over. I'm
- 14:55Speaker 2: tired of hearing that after they win the next game.
- 14:57Speaker 2: We're not going to treat ourselves that way.
- 15:00Speaker 1: That's the way.
- 15:01Speaker 2: At least the Cleveland Browns have a reputation and people care.
- 15:05Speaker 2: For Mike Tomlin to say the Browns are going to– Hutton,
- 15:07Speaker 2: I think you made a good point with that. Nobody
- 15:09Speaker 2: even cares about the Titans. Nobody cares what number he's wearing.
- 15:12Speaker 2: Nobody cares about this team. They don't even have an identity.
- 15:15Speaker 2: They're so bad and so irrelevant. You play a five-second
- 15:19Speaker 2: highlight clip of the last interception and you move on
- 15:23Speaker 2: without showing press conference footage or anything because nobody cares.
- 15:27Speaker 1: Yeah, you're playing the highlight reel because the Giants were playing,
- 15:29Speaker 1: not because the Titans were on the screen by any means.
- 15:31Speaker 2: The Titans have reached a new low and new level
- 15:34Speaker 2: of awful obscurity that you can't even lampoon them by saying, well,
- 15:39Speaker 2: the Titans are going to Titans. At least the Browns
- 15:41Speaker 2: had that after one week. Hey, the Browns got Browns.
- 15:44Speaker 2: And guess how they responded? They came back and they
- 15:45Speaker 2: won two football games. And now they have a winning record.
- 15:48Speaker 2: Are the Titans ever going to win two straight? When
- 15:50Speaker 2: was the last time they did it, Hutton? Five years ago?
- 15:53Speaker 2: With two straight games?
- 15:54Speaker 1: How long has it been? Unbelievable. Be-lievable. Coming up, what
- 16:00Speaker 1: to do about Cam Ward. What a real team would
- 16:02Speaker 1: do versus what the Titans are going to do. That's
- 16:04Speaker 1: next here on Hutton & Withrow. We are with Hard
- 16:07Speaker 1: Rock Bet for the whole season. It's Hutton & Withrow,

- 16:51Speaker 2: I keep hearing this, and this is frustrating the hell
- 16:53Speaker 2: out of me, okay?
- 16:54Speaker 3: Okay. Okay.
- 16:55Speaker 1: Everyone from Gaharski to, I'm trying to think, post-game with
- 17:00Speaker 1: A to Z. It can't happen here. I know that.
- 17:06Speaker 1: When I hear, oh, Trubisky. Trubisky's a backup. What's he done?
- 17:11Speaker 1: He would do better than this, is what he would do.
- 17:15Speaker 1: He would be better than this. And if it's about
- 17:19Speaker 1: winning games, Trubisky gives you a chance to win that
- 17:23Speaker 1: game yesterday. Oh, but Cam Ward gave me a chance
- 17:26Speaker 1: to win the game. Cam Ward lost the game yesterday.
- 17:33Speaker 1: I don't want to hear any more of this. This
- 17:36Speaker 1: is the spark that Cam Ward needs. Cam Ward has
- 17:39Speaker 1: trampled upon the sparks for which could have lit some
- 17:44Speaker 1: energy behind this team. The fan base is done with this.
- 17:48Speaker 1: Listen around. Put your ear to the pavement and listen
- 17:53Speaker 1: to what people are saying. It's not about just, oh,
- 17:57Speaker 1: we're going to win the rest of this NFL slate
- 18:00Speaker 1: with Mitchell Trubisky. No, no, no, no, no. It's not
- 18:02Speaker 1: about that. It's about looking competent. It's about wanting to
- 18:05Speaker 1: watch all four quarters. I don't know. It's about having
- 18:08Speaker 1: a first down in the first half. That's what this
- 18:12Speaker 1: is about. Cam Ward's not doing that. So before we
- 18:16Speaker 1: get to this, oh, he's a backup. Yes, he's a backup.
- 18:19Speaker 1: And so is Cam Ward. That's my point. Yes. Amen, 100,000%.
- 18:26Speaker 2: There's too much, and I see this a lot, from
- 18:29Speaker 2: people that should be better and know better in media
- 18:33Speaker 2: of the moment you.
- 18:34Speaker 1: Bring up Cam Ward, it's oh, but. Oh, but the
- 18:38Speaker 1: offensive line. Oh, but the receivers. Yeah, well, Trubisky's a backup.
- 18:42Speaker 1: Trubisky was a starter in this league and won football games.
- 18:44Speaker 1: He's better than what they have is the point.
- 18:48Speaker 2: Of course. I mean, let's take it even a step further.
- 18:52Speaker 2: Hendon Hooker might be better than what they're seeing right
- 18:54Speaker 2: now on the field. I don't want to start Hendon Hooker.
- 18:57Speaker 2: Don't get me wrong. You go to Mitch Trubisky, who's
- 18:59Speaker 2: a better option than Hendon Hooker.
- 19:00Speaker 1: This is pathetic. But you can go down the list
- 19:03Speaker 1: of better options. It's not just Trubisky.
- 19:05Speaker 2: I 1,000% agree with you and believe that Mitch Trubisky
- 19:08Speaker 2: is a way better option than what we're seeing at
- 19:09Speaker 2: quarterback right now. He is a competent professional. He has
- 19:13Speaker 2: started in the National Football League before. He has backed
- 19:16Speaker 2: up great NFL quarterbacks like Josh Allen. He knows Brian
- 19:20Speaker 2: Dayball's system better. He would give them a better chance.
- 19:24Speaker 2: Here's why you.
- 19:24Speaker 1: Go to Mitchell Trubisky at this point.
- 19:26Speaker 2: And this is why I would do it if I'm
- 19:28Speaker 2: Robert Sala. Again, I'm looking at it from the outside
- 19:30Speaker 2: and saying what the Titans really need is the number
- 19:32Speaker 2: one overall pick. And I don't think Mitch Trubisky helps
- 19:35Speaker 2: them get the number one overall pick. Because they might
- 19:37Speaker 2: backdoor their way into too many wins. Because he's better.
- 19:40Speaker 1: Yes.
- 19:41Speaker 2: If you want the number one overall pick, you let
- 19:42Speaker 2: Cam Ward bury this team consistently week after week. You
- 19:45Speaker 2: go one in 16 or two in 15, you draft
- 19:48Speaker 2: number one, and you go pray to God that you
- 19:52Speaker 2: get it right with Trinidad Chambliss or Arch Manning or
- 19:54Speaker 2: Dante Moore or whoever you end up picking with that
- 19:57Speaker 2: number one overall pick at quarterback. Trubisky gives you a
- 20:00Speaker 2: better chance if you're Robert Sala. And the word that
- 20:04Speaker 2: we keep using, competence. If you want to look like
- 20:07Speaker 2: an adult, competent organization, we're going to get to Shane
- 20:10Speaker 2: Beamer a little bit later, which credit.
- 20:12Speaker 1: To Shane Beamer.
- 20:13Speaker 2: He's making moves that make them look like a competent,
- 20:16Speaker 2: serious organization, even in the face of some adversity. If
- 20:19Speaker 2: you want to do that and you're Robert Sala and
- 20:21Speaker 2: you want to look, and I don't even know who
- 20:23Speaker 2: in this locker room I even care about looking in
- 20:25Speaker 2: the eye, honestly, with this team that they have. Cedric Gray,
- 20:30Speaker 2: Anthony Hill, Jeffrey Simmons. There are guys that I like
- 20:34Speaker 2: on this team. Um, the majority, the majority of these
- 20:37Speaker 2: players deserve that. Not just one or two. Cornell Tate, right?
- 20:41Speaker 2: Like if you want Cornell Tate to be something in
- 20:43Speaker 2: this league, if you want to give a good impression
- 20:45Speaker 2: and say, okay, we're serious about winning, going to Mitchell
- 20:49Speaker 2: Trubisky is the only decision to make. If you want
- 20:51Speaker 2: to actually look them in the eye and say, we're
- 20:53Speaker 2: serious about giving you guys a chance at success.
- 20:55Speaker 1: And we want to win, then you name Mitchell Trubisky
- 20:59Speaker 1: the starter this week. And the whole, the whole thing about, um,
- 21:05Speaker 1: Just top to bottom. This is now the second game
- 21:08Speaker 1: in three. Second in three where we have seen the
- 21:13Speaker 1: Titans open the game with a special teams blunder. You know,
- 21:18Speaker 1: like the fumble. We saw them kick it out of
- 21:20Speaker 1: bounds in week one. I mean, it is just a
- 21:22Speaker 1: road to disaster right now. Yeah, if you want to win,
- 21:28Speaker 1: you switch to quarterback. Oh, but you know, you can't.
- 21:31Speaker 1: They need to figure out what they have in Cam Ward.
- 21:33Speaker 1: That's fine. You just simply say, we're going to put
- 21:36Speaker 1: him on the bench for right now. We need to
- 21:38Speaker 1: reset where he is right now within this offense. He
- 21:40Speaker 1: needs to watch. He needs to watch. Because this whole, like, oh,
- 21:45Speaker 1: you've got things going in the second half. I don't
- 21:49Speaker 1: want to hear any of that. That was putrid. The
- 21:51Speaker 1: whole game. The whole game. Oh, but if he completes
- 21:54Speaker 1: that pass and there's a touchdown, then you're singing a
- 21:57Speaker 1: different song. It's fool's gold. It's fool's gold. What I'm
- 22:02Speaker 1: singing on this day is, like, the Undertaker's march. It's
- 22:14Speaker 1: the march for Arch.
- 22:16Speaker 2: It feels like both the Dolphins and the Titans are
- 22:18Speaker 2: embarking on at this point.
- 22:20Speaker 1: But I'm with you. The Dolphins look confident. The Dolphins
- 22:23Speaker 1: look like they can score some points.
- 22:25Speaker 2: Malik Willis, Lightyear's better at quarterback right now than what
- 22:29Speaker 2: you're seeing from Cam Moore.
- 22:31Speaker 1: James Winston, Lightyear's better. Oh, yes. Deshaun Watson.
- 22:35Speaker 2: I mean, let's go down the list of guys that
- 22:36Speaker 2: Titans fans would have laughed at at the start of
- 22:39Speaker 2: the year.
- 22:39Speaker 1: Oh, my gosh, but look at this quarterback situation. That
- 22:42Speaker 1: team looked like they, you know, Jameis Winston's a backup
- 22:46Speaker 1: for a reason. Cam Ward needs to be one, too,
- 22:49Speaker 1: right now. At this point, he needs to be a
- 22:51Speaker 1: backup because they are going nowhere fast. There are players,
- 22:55Speaker 1: there are plenty of players that deserve to be looked
- 22:57Speaker 1: in the eye on that roster and said, you bought
- 22:59Speaker 1: in and we're apologizing for it. And instead, and not apologizing,
- 23:04Speaker 1: you bought in and we're bought in. That's why we're
- 23:06Speaker 1: making a quarterback change. It is a slap in their
- 23:09Speaker 1: face if you don't. Because you're holding back the guys
- 23:14Speaker 1: in that locker room. You are. I mean, the defense
- 23:17Speaker 1: gave up 14 points, 12 points. 14 points wins the game.
- 23:22Speaker 1: They gave up 12 points. And was it close? Was
- 23:25Speaker 1: it close to being able to call that a winning effort?
- 23:29Speaker 1: And you've got more defensive players in the locker room
- 23:31Speaker 1: answering questions, at least the ones that I'm watching on
- 23:33Speaker 1: YouTube that are featured by the team. You've got more
- 23:36Speaker 1: defensive players answering questions than you do guys on offense.
- 23:40Speaker 1: That's disrespectful to the vast majority of the players who
- 23:44Speaker 1: deserve to be looked in the eye and be like, okay,
- 23:46Speaker 1: you can stay. You can stay. You're cool. You're cool.
- 23:48Speaker 1: You need a GTFO. There's a very small handful of
- 23:51Speaker 1: those players. And one of them right now that needs
- 23:53Speaker 1: to ride the bind is the quarterback.
- 23:56Speaker 2: Totally agree. Cam Ward's big response in these moments has
- 24:00Speaker 2: been to break a tablet on the sideline, and there's
- 24:03Speaker 2: no improvement. There's no actual, okay, this is going to
- 24:06Speaker 2: be what lights the fire. This is going to be
- 24:08Speaker 2: what gets into change. the way he conducts himself in interviews.
- 24:11Speaker 2: This is going to be what gets him to change
- 24:13Speaker 2: the way he makes decisions late in games. This is
- 24:15Speaker 2: going to be the turning point on this. Maybe don't
- 24:18Speaker 2: be so flippant with the ball. I see another play
- 24:20Speaker 2: yesterday where he just stops moving and doesn't use his
- 24:24Speaker 2: lower body and flips the ball out. And I'm thinking,
- 24:27Speaker 2: when are you going to learn and change? And if
- 24:29Speaker 2: you're not, you've got to make a change for the
- 24:32Speaker 2: good of the team. And if I'm Robert Sala, who
- 24:34Speaker 2: is a defensive guy as the head coach, I'm bringing
- 24:36Speaker 2: in my defensive core, And I'm saying, look, you guys
- 24:39Speaker 2: did your part yesterday.
- 24:40Speaker 1: This is a job.
- 24:42Speaker 2: We are all pulling our own weight. Our defense did
- 24:44Speaker 2: plenty to win that football game.
- 24:46Speaker 1: You did enough.
- 24:47Speaker 2: We are now going to make a decision that's going
- 24:49Speaker 2: to give you a better chance at success than everyone else.
- 24:52Speaker 2: And I'm defining who that core is going to be. Hill, Gray, Simmons.
- 24:57Speaker 2: I mean, go down the list. If it's Hooker, go
- 25:01Speaker 2: down the list of guys you like on this roster
- 25:04Speaker 2: that do it the right way, that are producing somewhat,
- 25:07Speaker 2: and say, this is your team now, too. Like, we
- 25:10Speaker 2: are changing the way we're doing it, and we're going
- 25:12Speaker 2: to start by trying to give you guys a better chance.
- 25:14Speaker 2: What's gone on in the past is unacceptable. The hard
- 25:17Speaker 2: part about all this is I would have a hard
- 25:20Speaker 2: time believing anything that anybody in the organization says if
- 25:24Speaker 2: I'm one of those players, based on your experience so
- 25:27Speaker 2: far with this team. Yep.
- 25:30Speaker 1: It's from Bert and I held down.
- 25:31Speaker 2: Yes. Absolutely.
- 25:33Speaker 1: Absolutely. But honestly, within their small little bubble, within their
- 25:38Speaker 1: small bubble of people, within that locker room, again, you
- 25:44Speaker 1: have preseason. Tell me, where was the week of practice
- 25:48Speaker 1: that was nothing but consistent, raised-the-bar effort from the offense?
- 25:54Speaker 1: Never saw it. Never saw them catch fire offensively. Oh,
- 25:57Speaker 1: but that's going to come. No. And then all of
- 26:00Speaker 1: a sudden it flipped from all gas, no break, Now
- 26:03Speaker 1: it's all break, no gas. And it's slow down, slow down,
- 26:08Speaker 1: slow down, guys. This is about where we're going, not
- 26:10Speaker 1: where we are right now. We're going to improve every week.
- 26:12Speaker 1: This is our floor. No, it's not. No, there's a
- 26:16Speaker 1: new basement being that you're digging every single week. Every
- 26:21Speaker 1: single week that this quarterback continues to trot out there
- 26:24Speaker 1: and do nothing for two quarters. And then they have
- 26:27Speaker 1: a third quarter happen again yesterday where there's like an
- 26:29Speaker 1: eight minute drive. Where they don't get the ball. They
- 26:32Speaker 1: start the second half, they don't get the ball back
- 26:34Speaker 1: until like seven minutes left in the quarter. It's routine.
- 26:39Speaker 1: It's routine. And the only reason the Titans highlights are shown,
- 26:42Speaker 1: they're like the Arizona Cardinals. Because the Arizona Cardinals are playing, what,
- 26:45Speaker 1: the 49ers yesterday. At least the Cardinals are playing some
- 26:49Speaker 1: competitive football. Meanwhile, the Titans are shown because they're playing
- 26:52Speaker 1: the New York Giants. That's why they're shown.
- 26:55Speaker 2: And Hutton, the Titans do a good enough job clowning
- 26:57Speaker 2: themselves as an organization, as a team, every week. But
- 27:00Speaker 2: it's also as if the entire league is out to
- 27:03Speaker 2: clown them with different results. That week you talked about, boy,
- 27:07Speaker 2: this was a great week of practice. Belt to ass.
- 27:11Speaker 1: We look great out there.
- 27:12Speaker 2: Then they went out in the preseason game and let
- 27:14Speaker 2: Drew Locke look like Johnny Unitas against them in the
- 27:18Speaker 2: backup for Seattle. But remember what we're hearing about when
- 27:21Speaker 2: cameras weren't around, boy, man, the offense looked great against Seattle,
- 27:24Speaker 2: the defending world champs. The defense was good, this and that.
- 27:28Speaker 2: That Seattle team just went to Washington and lost to
- 27:31Speaker 2: Marcus Mariota also. Marcus Mariota, and I'm not saying Seattle's
- 27:35Speaker 2: not good.
- 27:35Speaker 1: Backup quarterback, Chad. Seattle's very good.
- 27:37Speaker 2: Marcus Mariota, former Titans quarterback, who was not good enough
- 27:41Speaker 2: for you here, is still in the league as a
- 27:43Speaker 2: backup and went out there, put up 30-plus points, and
- 27:48Speaker 2: beat the Seattle Seahawks defense in that game. By the way,
- 27:51Speaker 2: congrats to Marcus Mariota. Great dude on what he's been
- 27:55Speaker 2: able to do to stick around this. He's got white
- 27:56Speaker 2: hair now. And he's still playing as a backup and
- 27:58Speaker 2: playing well when he gets in. Also, great evidence that,
- 28:01Speaker 2: guess what? Backup quarterbacks that are older, that have starting experience,
- 28:07Speaker 2: might be a good option for a team.
- 28:09Speaker 1: Hello, Mitch Trubisky and the Titans. That's all I'm saying.
- 28:13Speaker 1: I just don't want to hear this whole thing about, oh,
- 28:15Speaker 1: Trubisky's on his fourth team, and what's he done? He's
- 28:18Speaker 1: a backup quarterback for a reason. That's right. And there's
- 28:21Speaker 1: a reason why he should be playing right now. over
- 28:24Speaker 1: the starter of the Tennessee Titans, who is no starter
- 28:26Speaker 1: in the National Football League right now.
- 28:28Speaker 2: Give me the reason that Cam Ward is a starting
- 28:30Speaker 2: quarterback in the NFL. Let's start with that. If you're
- 28:32Speaker 2: going to argue, well, Mitch Trubisky's a backup.
- 28:34Speaker 1: What do you expect? Based on where he's drafted only. Exactly.
- 28:37Speaker 2: What has he done in an NFL game that someone
- 28:41Speaker 2: would argue, hey, this guy's a starting quarterback in the
- 28:43Speaker 2: National Football League?
- 28:44Speaker 1: He completed a pass.
- 28:46Speaker 2: The only thing he has done is get drafted number
- 28:48Speaker 2: one overall, and then he asked for Warren Moon's number.
- 28:51Speaker 1: And they gave it to him. That's what's happened. The
- 28:53Speaker 1: misses that he had in that third quarter yesterday were
- 28:57Speaker 1: some of the– I mean, a middle school quarterback would
- 28:59Speaker 1: make that completion. We see high school Friday night football
- 29:03Speaker 1: completions that look way easier than what Cam Ward's making
- 29:08Speaker 1: this allowed to be. Any backup in the league could
- 29:11Speaker 1: do that. Any backup. And anybody that's saying otherwise is
- 29:16Speaker 1: carrying the water from the top down of the organization. Period.
- 29:20Speaker 3: Period.
- 29:22Speaker 2: Because they're scared about their credential, I guess. And they're
- 29:24Speaker 2: also going to look really bad. They're going to look, yes.
- 29:30Speaker 2: When that person that's overseeing them is no longer there. Or?
- 29:35Speaker 2: Because at some point that's going to be an option too.
- 29:37Speaker 1: Or they're going to look really bad when all of
- 29:39Speaker 1: a sudden they flip and be like. oh, it was
- 29:40Speaker 1: time for a change. Oh, this was a spark they needed.
- 29:43Speaker 1: And they'll act like they never said this before to
- 29:45Speaker 1: back Cam Ward. Look at this.
- 29:47Speaker 2: Boy, the defense is playing pretty good against the Ravens.
- 29:49Speaker 2: And Mitchell Trubisky has actually scored 17 points.
- 29:52Speaker 1: In the game.
- 29:53Speaker 2: So the Titans have a chance here late or whatever
- 29:56Speaker 2: happens when they eventually start them.
- 29:57Speaker 1: They're going to come back. They need 13 points to
- 29:59Speaker 1: win that game.
- 30:00Speaker 2: They're going to come back and act like, oh, yeah,
- 30:02Speaker 2: this was the right move by the Titans organization.
- 30:04Speaker 1: I'm with you. They needed 13 points to win yesterday.
- 30:08Speaker 1: Couldn't get it because the quarterback. he's got to throw
- 30:12Speaker 1: a pick in that moment. Yes, he had a moment.
- 30:18Speaker 1: He had a moment to really just change the narrative, right?
- 30:20Speaker 1: Get something positive going. Throw a touchdown pass to win
- 30:23Speaker 1: the game. But guess what he didn't do? He didn't
- 30:26Speaker 1: do that. He did the opposite. He lost the game.
- 30:30Speaker 1: He threw the game away when he had the opportunity.
- 30:33Speaker 1: So he needs to take a seat. He needs to
- 30:35Speaker 1: take a seat.
- 30:37Speaker 2: Chad, and I don't know, by the way, if he
- 30:39Speaker 2: does complete that pass or score. That's good for Cam Ward.
- 30:42Speaker 2: It's a good thing for Cam Ward. I don't know
- 30:44Speaker 2: that it's a great thing for the organization, honestly, because
- 30:47Speaker 2: it gives them probably some false hope about Cam Ward
- 30:50Speaker 2: moving forward. It gets you one step further away from
- 30:52Speaker 2: the number one overall pick by beating that Giants team.
- 30:55Speaker 2: So to me, all's well that ends well for the
- 30:58Speaker 2: Titans organization. Probably the best outcome was that interception and
- 31:02Speaker 2: losing that game because it keeps you in play.
- 31:05Speaker 1: For number one overall.
- 31:06Speaker 2: And it further cements the fact that Cam Ward is
- 31:08Speaker 2: just simply not the guy.
- 31:10Speaker 1: Yes, it's week four, and the Titans are talking about
- 31:12Speaker 1: number one overall. That is their floor. That is their floor.

- 32:08Speaker 2: All borrowers must qualify. This advertisement is not a promise
- 32:11Speaker 2: to make a loan.
- 32:12Speaker 1: Chad, I woke up Saturday morning in Nacogdoches and enjoyed
- 32:16Speaker 1: college game day. I thought it looked cool. Enjoyed kickoff,
- 32:20Speaker 1: all of it. How about the experience overall in Knoxville?
- 32:25Speaker 1: How was it?
- 32:26Speaker 2: You know, it's always cool to see something through new eyes, right?
- 32:31Speaker 2: Like it's It's one of the fun things of taking
- 32:33Speaker 2: my daughters to a Tennessee game or somewhere for the
- 32:37Speaker 2: first time that they get to see at a place
- 32:40Speaker 2: that you've experienced so much. So this weekend was awesome
- 32:43Speaker 2: because I got to see Kelly Stewart and Ariel Epstein
- 32:45Speaker 2: see Knoxville for the first time ever. They had never
- 32:48Speaker 2: even been in the city. So never been to a
- 32:50Speaker 2: Tennessee game, knew nothing about it. And it was very
- 32:54Speaker 2: cool to kind of see their excitement with it. Now,
- 32:57Speaker 2: This weekend was gorgeous. You know, it was one of
- 33:00Speaker 2: the more perfect. It could have been a little bit cooler.
- 33:02Speaker 2: You know, when the sun came out for the noon game,
- 33:04Speaker 2: it got a little bit warm, but it was upper 50s,
- 33:07Speaker 2: low 60s at night.
- 33:08Speaker 1: You know, it was cool in the.
- 33:10Speaker 2: Morning walking over to the game. Game day on campus
- 33:13Speaker 2: was awesome. I was actually at a tailgate right next
- 33:16Speaker 2: to the stadium getting ready to walk in, and I
- 33:18Speaker 2: could hear the noise of the kid hitting the kick
- 33:21Speaker 2: in the Pat McAfee challenge. You hear a big eruption
- 33:23Speaker 2: of fans, and it was from the hill behind us
- 33:25Speaker 2: next to the stadium. Hutton, it was a glorious weekend,
- 33:29Speaker 2: all but the Vols win, you know, that worked out
- 33:32Speaker 2: for Tennessee. But the game delivered. You know, it had
- 33:35Speaker 2: a dramatic ending, and we're going to get to everything
- 33:38Speaker 2: with the fallout of the game and observations and all that.
- 33:41Speaker 2: I can't say this definitively because I'm not going to
- 33:44Speaker 2: be someone who comes on and just makes a statement
- 33:46Speaker 2: just to make it without having all the information out
- 33:48Speaker 2: there because I haven't been to– Penn State. You know,
- 33:52Speaker 2: I haven't been to LSU. There's plenty of places I've
- 33:55Speaker 2: not been in college football that are thought of as
- 33:57Speaker 2: great environments and great towns for college football. I can
- 34:01Speaker 2: make the argument that Knoxville, Tennessee is the best environment
- 34:04Speaker 2: and best place for college football in America because of
- 34:07Speaker 2: the blend of everything. You've got a downtown in a
- 34:10Speaker 2: city that's walking distance. We stayed in the old city.
- 34:13Speaker 2: It's about a 25-minute walk. From the stadium, you get
- 34:15Speaker 2: to walk through a downtown, walk into there. You've got
- 34:18Speaker 2: nice restaurants, nice bars to go out in. You've got
- 34:21Speaker 2: the college feel at certain places also. You got the
- 34:25Speaker 2: green spaces next to campus mixed with a river. You
- 34:28Speaker 2: got a stadium that seats over 100,000 people. You've got
- 34:32Speaker 2: a lot of pageantry that goes into it. I just
- 34:34Speaker 2: think Knoxville, Tennessee at its height is incredible. And Kelly
- 34:39Speaker 2: and Ariel, I think, agree. after this weekend that they're
- 34:42Speaker 2: having a hard time finding anything better than that. But again,
- 34:46Speaker 2: I can make the argument, but I'm not going to
- 34:48Speaker 2: definitively say it because I haven't been everywhere yet.
- 34:50Speaker 1: I'd love to go everywhere.
- 34:52Speaker 2: As this college football tour continues with us, Hutton, the
- 34:55Speaker 2: Dixieland Delight Friday night tour, we'll eventually get to see
- 34:58Speaker 2: other places we haven't been to before. And you got
- 35:00Speaker 2: to experience Oxford last week for the first time and
- 35:03Speaker 2: see what that, that was also an amazing experience. No
- 35:06Speaker 2: slight to Oxford at all. It was very, very cool.
- 35:11Speaker 2: All that said, from an environment standpoint, this game should
- 35:14Speaker 2: have been at night. It just would have felt and
- 35:17Speaker 2: been way different had it not gone from Johnny Knoxville
- 35:20Speaker 2: making the pickup of the game and right into the broadcast.
- 35:24Speaker 1: It was loud. It was fun.
- 35:25Speaker 2: It just felt different being at noon. And maybe that's
- 35:29Speaker 2: me being a snob about it and wanting late afternoon
- 35:32Speaker 2: and night games for my team, but it just felt different, Hunt.
- 35:37Speaker 2: It also felt different not having you there. We've got
- 35:39Speaker 2: to get you back on the next one. That was
- 35:42Speaker 2: also a wet blanket on the truck.
- 35:43Speaker 1: Did you guys get in there three hours early and
- 35:48Speaker 1: just sit there and twiddle your fingers? What did you
- 35:52Speaker 1: do for three hours?
- 35:54Speaker 2: Here's what I was shocked with with the president being there.
- 35:58Speaker 2: We walked in 50 minutes before kickoff. Not a single problem. Now,
- 36:04Speaker 2: you know, flex here, but we had field passes. So
- 36:06Speaker 2: we walked in the.
- 36:07Speaker 1: Family gate and used our tickets to get in there
- 36:09Speaker 1: and then walk straight down on the field.
- 36:11Speaker 2: So we were on the field for about an hour
- 36:13Speaker 2: before the game. I mean, probably maybe an hour, 15
- 36:15Speaker 2: hour and 20 minutes before we walked in. No problems
- 36:17Speaker 2: at all. I would say security was incredibly lax. I
- 36:22Speaker 2: don't remember going through a metal detector. They just, well,
- 36:24Speaker 2: we walked right on in on the outside gate that
- 36:27Speaker 2: there were no big issues.
- 36:28Speaker 1: Now there was secret service.
- 36:30Speaker 2: With high-powered sniper rifles and machine guns all over the place.
- 36:34Speaker 2: Watching the game, you could see the snipers up next
- 36:37Speaker 2: to the press box all around where the president was sitting.
- 36:41Speaker 2: The Air Force One flyover was very, very cool to see.
- 36:44Speaker 2: Did not even know that was happening, but thought it
- 36:45Speaker 2: could be a possibility. But yeah, I think so many
- 36:49Speaker 2: people took all that stuff and took it so seriously.
- 36:52Speaker 2: They got in there so early. There weren't many people
- 36:54Speaker 2: walking in an hour before kickoff. By the time I arrived,
- 36:57Speaker 2: the place looked full. You know, and this is an
- 36:59Speaker 2: hour and 15 before kickoff. Yeah, I'm starting to think, like,
- 37:02Speaker 2: what they would do. Like, did they run out of beer?
- 37:05Speaker 2: If there was one day to run out of beer,
- 37:06Speaker 2: it would be this day.
- 37:07Speaker 1: Yeah. You know?
- 37:09Speaker 2: With the half-priced drinks and everything else. Also, the week
- 37:12Speaker 2: got started on a crazy note because I don't know
- 37:15Speaker 2: how many people watched Big Noon kickoff, but that was
- 37:18Speaker 2: me interviewing Josh Heupel on Friday night, not Clay Travis.
- 37:22Speaker 2: You hear my voice at one point during the interview
- 37:25Speaker 2: because Clay– and I feel awful for Clay– He had
- 37:28Speaker 2: to miss his son's high school game to go interview Heupel,
- 37:31Speaker 2: and he got stuck in five hours of traffic. It
- 37:34Speaker 2: took him over five hours because of wrecks on I-40
- 37:37Speaker 2: to get into Knoxville. So he did not make the
- 37:39Speaker 2: interview with Heupel on time. So that was me interviewing
- 37:43Speaker 2: Josh Heupel. Just a little, you know, magic of the trade.
- 37:46Speaker 2: Clay introduced it. Clay acted like he was doing the interview. No,
- 37:49Speaker 2: that was me sitting across from Hypal. And if you
- 37:51Speaker 2: listen closely, you can hear me in the interview, cut
- 37:55Speaker 2: him off and ask, was that your idea about the
- 37:57Speaker 2: half-price drinks and getting in an hour early? And Hypal
- 38:00Speaker 2: laughs and says, no, but it was a great idea.
- 38:02Speaker 2: But that was fun. And just the difference in companies.
- 38:07Speaker 2: You know, we were at Fox before, so we were
- 38:09Speaker 2: previous Fox employees. I didn't know anyone there with Fox
- 38:13Speaker 2: Sports on that team. I counted six or seven people
- 38:17Speaker 2: that I met there. that were employees of Fox that
- 38:20Speaker 2: were there for a 12-minute interview I did with Hypo
- 38:23Speaker 2: that they cut down to a minute 48. And I
- 38:26Speaker 2: think Clay was on camera for all of about 90
- 38:28Speaker 2: seconds to two minutes in the pregame for his hit.
- 38:32Speaker 2: And I'm thinking that's just a different level of personnel
- 38:39Speaker 2: and sending people to flood the zone, right? Because I'm
- 38:42Speaker 2: thinking it was not cheap to stay in Knoxville, just
- 38:45Speaker 2: like it wasn't cheap in Oxford the week before. That's
- 38:48Speaker 2: six or seven people at least with their own hotel
- 38:50Speaker 2: room that's there for that one hit with Clay. It's
- 38:54Speaker 2: remarkable to see, which I want to give credit to
- 38:57Speaker 2: the likes of Jacob Lutz and William Patterson and Ellie
- 39:00Speaker 2: May that were there getting social media content. Jacob's setting
- 39:04Speaker 2: up everything and producing our show. He's also setting up
- 39:07Speaker 2: the interview with Donald Trump for Clay for halftime. So
- 39:10Speaker 2: he's going back and forth from the stadium to Wagon
- 39:13Speaker 2: Wheel for our Friday night show and ends it at
- 39:15Speaker 2: Wagon Wheel, immediately goes back over. He's there first thing
- 39:18Speaker 2: in the morning to get everything set up with Secret
- 39:20Speaker 2: Service and do it.
- 39:21Speaker 1: Jacob's one guy, right?
- 39:23Speaker 2: Clay even said, what an amazing hire with Jacob Lutz
- 39:27Speaker 2: because that's one guy. Fox had seven dudes there. for
- 39:30Speaker 2: one sit down with me and Josh Heupel for 12 minutes.
- 39:34Speaker 2: Lutz produced an over hour long show on Friday night
- 39:38Speaker 2: and got set up for an interview with the president
- 39:40Speaker 2: and produced all that and did it wonderfully. So shout
- 39:43Speaker 2: out to Lutz, shout out to our team. We don't
- 39:45Speaker 2: have many people on the ground, but I know Clay
- 39:48Speaker 2: wrote about it in his column this week too, Hutton.
- 39:50Speaker 2: I'm impressed with the scale of what we're able to
- 39:52Speaker 2: do with not a lot of people. You were a
- 39:54Speaker 2: part of it last week in Oxford. You and I
- 39:57Speaker 2: will be a part of it again here in just
- 39:58Speaker 2: a few weeks back in Knoxville for their game against Alabama.
- 40:02Speaker 2: It's remarkable to see, and I love this part of
- 40:04Speaker 2: the job. We're barely a month old as a media company,
- 40:08Speaker 2: and we're out there producing content as good as anyone
- 40:11Speaker 2: that was in that town. And it's the second straight
- 40:12Speaker 2: week we just happen to be in a place that
- 40:14Speaker 2: all of college football media descended upon. I see Taylor
- 40:17Speaker 2: LeJuan and Will Compton and Josh Pate on the sideline
- 40:20Speaker 2: and wave at them. I mean, there's people everywhere from
- 40:22Speaker 2: the college football world. So it's cool that we're doing
- 40:25Speaker 2: what we're doing in that ecosystem so quickly and big
- 40:28Speaker 2: props to Lutz and everyone else who made that happen.
- 40:32Speaker 1: Hey, so how much did we think Clay paid for
- 40:33Speaker 1: the orange blazer?
- 40:36Speaker 2: So I asked him about that orange blazer and I
- 40:39Speaker 2: feel like maybe Laura bought it for him and found
- 40:43Speaker 2: it somewhere.
- 40:44Speaker 1: It's definitely not cheap.
- 40:45Speaker 2: He did quiz me on what pants to wear and
- 40:47Speaker 2: I don't know, I can't really zoom.
- 40:49Speaker 1: In enough to see which one he chose.
- 40:51Speaker 2: It was either like jeans because he said, should I
- 40:53Speaker 2: go nice pants or these?
- 40:56Speaker 1: There were like jeans.
- 40:57Speaker 2: Then there was more like the blue lemon style, like athletic,
- 41:01Speaker 2: you know, blue pants. And I told him to go
- 41:03Speaker 2: with the jeans that he considered his nice pants. But
- 41:05Speaker 2: I'm also thinking like, okay, these are jeans. I don't
- 41:07Speaker 2: know that I would describe these. has nice pants, but
- 41:10Speaker 2: whatever it was, it worked out. And by the way,
- 41:13Speaker 2: you couldn't miss Clay. I mean, he looked like a Dunkin'
- 41:15Speaker 2: Donuts rep walking around campus in that jacket the whole time.
- 41:19Speaker 2: So he was getting shout-outs from everybody on campus. Lute's
- 41:24Speaker 2: got to experience that firsthand. The man doesn't know how to, like,
- 41:27Speaker 2: walk and talk. You know, if somebody says hi to Clay,
- 41:30Speaker 2: he is embedded.
- 41:31Speaker 1: He's stopping.
- 41:32Speaker 2: He's going to spend five minutes with them. The guy
- 41:34Speaker 2: is never big time to soul, which is cool to see.
- 41:38Speaker 1: How was Wagon Wheel as well? It was awesome.
- 41:41Speaker 2: We had a setup where we had crowd behind us
- 41:44Speaker 2: on a stage and we were in the corner. And
- 41:46Speaker 2: you've been there. So you walk in, you go left.
- 41:49Speaker 2: There's the two bars with the wall that separates the two.
- 41:52Speaker 2: We were on the bar on the left in the
- 41:53Speaker 2: upper front of it. So we're looking out and they
- 41:57Speaker 2: open the windows. So people would pass us and yell stuff,
- 42:00Speaker 2: you know, hook them, whatever. And every time someone yelled,
- 42:03Speaker 2: hook them or anything, Kelly was like coming out of
- 42:05Speaker 2: her seat to do the horns down. to them and
- 42:07Speaker 2: scream at them, scream at the Texas fans that were
- 42:09Speaker 2: close by, which was pretty funny. And, yeah, we had
- 42:12Speaker 2: a great time at Wagon Wheel. Great setup. Awesome night,
- 42:16Speaker 2: as you see Clay there, and enjoying a nice beverage
- 42:19Speaker 2: as he joined us towards the end of the show.
- 42:21Speaker 2: Levi Clark was very cool. Thanks to Hunter Bedore and
- 42:23Speaker 2: Spire Sports for setting him up with us. Tennessee baseball star.
- 42:27Speaker 2: He was a lot of fun. Spent probably 20 minutes
- 42:29Speaker 2: with us on the show.
- 42:31Speaker 1: It was a blast, man.
- 42:32Speaker 2: These shows on Friday night, I hope people– However you
- 42:36Speaker 2: go and watch it, as Jacob Lute says, wherever we
- 42:38Speaker 2: do business, we're live. So if it's on X, if
- 42:41Speaker 2: it's on Facebook, if it's on Instagram with clips, if
- 42:44Speaker 2: it's on YouTube, if it's on podcasts where it's available
- 42:46Speaker 2: now through iHeart Podcast, go back and watch those shows.
- 42:50Speaker 2: Watch how much fun we had in the Ole Miss.
- 42:52Speaker 2: Watch how much fun we had in Knoxville. This is
- 42:55Speaker 2: something that's going to continue with Clay. We love doing it. And, Hutton,
- 42:58Speaker 2: this is sort of the vision we had from five,
- 43:00Speaker 2: six years ago of what it could be. We want
- 43:03Speaker 2: a lively atmosphere. We want it to be loud. We
- 43:05Speaker 2: want people interacting with the show. We had that again
- 43:07Speaker 2: on Friday night. So lots of fun, man.
- 43:09Speaker 1: You were missed. You had much better things to do.
- 43:12Speaker 2: You were exactly where you needed to be, honoring the
- 43:16Speaker 2: life of the legend, Coach Dave McGinnis.
- 43:19Speaker 1: How was the memorial experience? Down in Texas. I know
- 43:21Speaker 1: you sent me a picture of his gravestone also. Yeah, man,
- 43:25Speaker 1: it was great. I thought a job well done. Campoani,
- 43:29Speaker 1: where he spent a lot of his summers working, where
- 43:32Speaker 1: he met a lot of his friends and spent a
- 43:34Speaker 1: lot of time describing his younger days. Shout out to
- 43:39Speaker 1: Fred Jackson. Betsy Noel for hanging with me all weekend
- 43:44Speaker 1: as well. It was cool. It was great. They handed
- 43:49Speaker 1: me the mic at one point to tell some stories,
- 43:53Speaker 1: but the stories I'd never heard about Dave McGinnis, Coach Mack.
- 43:57Speaker 1: Everyone there calls him David, Chad. That's the difference. I
- 44:01Speaker 1: knew Mack. You know Coach Mack. I didn't know David.
- 44:06Speaker 1: That was cool to hear the stories about David and
- 44:09Speaker 1: not just coach Mac. Um, it was, it was, it
- 44:12Speaker 1: was special. It was special. Um, not the easiest place
- 44:16Speaker 1: to get into, you know, uh, we flew into Dallas
- 44:21Speaker 1: and then drove three hours, but, um, well worth it.
- 44:24Speaker 1: Some great food, I must say. So down in Nacogdoches, but, uh, um, yeah. And, and,
- 44:32Speaker 1: and certainly, uh, um, with the whole friend group that
- 44:41Speaker 1: some I knew, some I didn't. It was cool to
- 44:44Speaker 1: shake hands and talk about the man, talk about Coach
- 44:48Speaker 1: Mack once again. So, yeah, thanks for asking about that.
- 44:53Speaker 1: Everything went very, very well.
- 44:54Speaker 2: Absolutely, yeah. Again, you were right where you needed to
- 44:57Speaker 2: be this weekend with your close relationship with him. And
- 45:01Speaker 2: it's funny you say he was David. to everyone there
- 45:04Speaker 2: that knew him growing up, I'm always fascinated by, you know,
- 45:08Speaker 2: meeting like a close friend that knew someone at 10
- 45:11Speaker 2: years old, you know, that you didn't know. Like we evolve,
- 45:14Speaker 2: we change so much as people. Over the years, we
- 45:17Speaker 2: have different eras that we're in and you meet someone
- 45:20Speaker 2: in one era and you think that's them. And really
- 45:22Speaker 2: it's not because they were something totally different as a
- 45:24Speaker 2: teenager and they were totally different as an eight-year-old. And
- 45:26Speaker 2: then they're totally different as an 80-year-old if you're lucky
- 45:29Speaker 2: enough to make it that long, right? So it's very
- 45:31Speaker 2: cool to experience that. the full coach Mac David experience
- 45:37Speaker 2: and know him throughout the years is, is pretty awesome.
- 45:39Speaker 1: Cause you're right.
- 45:40Speaker 2: I mean, I know the guys I'm listening to Titans
- 45:42Speaker 2: radio on the drive back from Knoxville as they're doing
- 45:44Speaker 2: their pregame and it opens with the not yes, not yes,
- 45:48Speaker 2: but hell yes from coach Mac. And I just bring
- 45:51Speaker 2: a smile on my face and I'm thinking that's the
- 45:53Speaker 2: coach Mac I know was that exuberance that was always
- 45:56Speaker 2: so youthful throughout and to know a different coach Mac,
- 46:00Speaker 2: I'm sure it was, was special.
- 46:02Speaker 1: Hey, shout out to Jack and Becky Raines as well
- 46:05Speaker 1: for the hospitality. If we ever want to go and
- 46:07Speaker 1: shoot some hogs, Chad, I know where to go now.
- 46:11Speaker 2: You know, it's time, Hutton. 44 years old, I've never
- 46:17Speaker 2: gone hunting in my life. Like, it's time I just
- 46:19Speaker 2: pick up a new hobby. So let's go shoot something.
- 46:21Speaker 1: Let's go. It's time. Hey, coming up, let's discuss Tennessee
- 46:26Speaker 1: and Texas on the field. Big takeaways from that matchup next.
- 46:31Speaker 1: Accidents don't wait for great timing. One bad moment, a wreck,
- 46:33Speaker 1: a fall, a doctor who wasn't paying attention. Suddenly you're
- 46:36Speaker 1: fighting an insurance company that does this every single day.
- 46:38Speaker 1: And that's why Clay started Clay Travis Law. He's a
- 46:41Speaker 1: Vanderbilt Law grad. He built a firm around an idea
- 46:43Speaker 1: that people deserve someone willing to pay attention, ask the
- 46:46Speaker 1: hard questions, push back when things don't add up. Experienced
- 46:49Speaker 1: trial attorneys with Clay Travis Law that bring the fight
- 46:52Speaker 1: to corporations and insurers based in Nashville and trusted across
- 46:55Speaker 1: the country.
- 46:56Speaker 2: Car and truck wrecks, rideshare accidents, medical malpractice, premises liability,
- 47:00Speaker 2: product liability. If you were wronged, they want to hear
- 47:03Speaker 2: about it. And here's what they promise. Honestly, they don't
- 47:05Speaker 2: sugarcoat your case. You'll hear what it's actually worth, not
- 47:08Speaker 2: what you want to hear. Case evaluation is free. No charge,
- 47:10Speaker 2: no pressure, no hassle. Just tell them your story and
- 47:13Speaker 2: go to claytravislaw.com or call them at 877-222-4444.
- 47:15Speaker 1: That's claytravislaw.com. No case is too big or too small.
- 47:22Speaker 1: First big takeaway of the game, Chad, from Tennessee and
- 47:24Speaker 1: Texas was Josh Heupel's game plan got his quarterback's ass kicked. Yep.
- 47:29Speaker 1: I was a bit surprised by that. I was too.
- 47:31Speaker 2: I thought two things were true in this game in
- 47:34Speaker 2: terms of coaching. I think that Jim Knowles and that
- 47:38Speaker 2: defense is way further along than I thought, and I
- 47:40Speaker 2: thought that he got the best of Steve Sarkisian outside
- 47:42Speaker 2: of three plays. That opening drive bomb they completed, the
- 47:46Speaker 2: circus catch by Cam Coleman, who's probably the only guy
- 47:48Speaker 2: in the country who could have.
- 47:49Speaker 1: Made that catch.
- 47:50Speaker 2: On the sideline, mixed with a 15-yard roughing the passer
- 47:53Speaker 2: on the same play that led to a 45-yard gain
- 47:56Speaker 2: for Texas. There was one other big pass play also
- 47:58Speaker 2: in the game. Other than that, Tennessee's defense was terrific.
- 48:01Speaker 2: I was just looking at pro football focus grades. Tennessee's
- 48:04Speaker 2: defensive line graded out as the best in America this
- 48:06Speaker 2: past weekend, 93.1 score. That's against Texas and their offensive line.
- 48:11Speaker 2: So that defense played inspired football and full marks to them.
- 48:17Speaker 2: Josh Heupel's got some things to figure out. Josh Heupel
- 48:19Speaker 2: and Joey Halsley. That was not good enough. I thought
- 48:23Speaker 2: Will Muschamp dominated that matchup on the other side of.
- 48:26Speaker 1: The ball completely.
- 48:27Speaker 2: Faison Brannon also has to be better. There's all 22
- 48:31Speaker 2: shots now of him. I don't know what's called or
- 48:34Speaker 2: where he's looking first, but he's looking left and someone's
- 48:37Speaker 2: wide open over the middle. on the first couple of drives,
- 48:40Speaker 2: you know, on a design play. He wasn't good at
- 48:44Speaker 2: all in that game. I mean, the one positive, as
- 48:46Speaker 2: you can say, even playing that, that he didn't have
- 48:47Speaker 2: a single turnover. He hasn't thrown an interception yet this year.
- 48:51Speaker 2: He's got to let it rip. I mean, you've got
- 48:53Speaker 2: to understand, like, dudes aren't going to be wide open
- 48:55Speaker 2: perfectly on time in SEC games. So you're going to
- 48:59Speaker 2: have to throw the football at times when you've got
- 49:01Speaker 2: a chance to hit a window in between two players.
- 49:04Speaker 2: You've got to hit that window. And you've got to
- 49:06Speaker 2: take that chance.
- 49:07Speaker 1: When you get a.
- 49:07Speaker 2: Guy one-on-one, you can't pat the ball and hold it
- 49:12Speaker 2: for another half a second. Because when you do that,
- 49:14Speaker 2: you're rushed to scramble or you're going to get hit.
- 49:17Speaker 2: And you're going to get sacked. So these are things
- 49:20Speaker 2: that phase on Brandon's got to learn. I think Tennessee
- 49:22Speaker 2: is going to be fine. You know, they lost by
- 49:24Speaker 2: three points and number one team in the country and
- 49:26Speaker 2: their offense was atrocious. You know, everything's not broken. There's
- 49:30Speaker 2: no need to panic right now. If you're Tennessee losing
- 49:33Speaker 2: that game phase on Brandon still shows the ability to
- 49:36Speaker 2: run the football and, better than I expected coming into
- 49:38Speaker 2: the year.
- 49:38Speaker 1: He showed that again in this game. He's got to
- 49:41Speaker 1: be way better.
- 49:43Speaker 2: That passing game's got to be way better. There were
- 49:45Speaker 2: two design play calls that I thought that was a
- 49:47Speaker 2: good play. There was one pass in the middle to
- 49:50Speaker 2: Braylon Staley, and there was sort of an arrow screen.
- 49:53Speaker 2: where Staley was motioning out and came back in for
- 49:56Speaker 2: a 15-yard gain on a screen pass in the middle.
- 49:59Speaker 2: I'm thinking, that's what you've got to do with a guy.
- 50:01Speaker 2: You've got to get him quick passes to get him comfortable.
- 50:04Speaker 2: Get Mike Matthews. Those guys can make dudes miss. They're
- 50:07Speaker 2: really good receivers. Matthews showed it when he scored that
- 50:10Speaker 2: late touchdown also. You've got to work to get them.
- 50:12Speaker 2: DeSan Brame, where is he? He finally caught a few
- 50:15Speaker 2: passes late when Tennessee was in scramble mode. He is
- 50:18Speaker 2: a matchup nightmare. He's a jumbo, fast, wide receiver playing
- 50:22Speaker 2: tight end.
- 50:23Speaker 1: For you. Get him matched up on a linebacker more often.
- 50:26Speaker 1: I'm with you, Hunt.
- 50:26Speaker 2: That was a bad day for Josh Heupel and his
- 50:29Speaker 2: game plan and their execution to get four plays off
- 50:33Speaker 2: the way they did when you take over at midfield
- 50:35Speaker 2: after that, by the way, gorgeous onside kick. I have
- 50:38Speaker 2: never seen anything work out that perfectly on the drop kick.
- 50:43Speaker 2: We're watching, I'm thinking, you can do this? And I'm like,
- 50:45Speaker 2: oh yeah, it could be a drop kick the way
- 50:47Speaker 2: he was holding it. Sarkeesian's going nuts calling timeout when
- 50:50Speaker 2: they see the punter circling about to do it, then
- 50:53Speaker 2: they come right back and do the same thing and
- 50:56Speaker 2: pull it off. So that was an incredible moment in
- 50:58Speaker 2: the game. But, you know, big takeaways. Heupel's got to
- 51:01Speaker 2: be better. Faison Brandon's got to be better. He's got
- 51:04Speaker 2: to let it rip at times. They're going to have
- 51:05Speaker 2: to let it rip against Auburn to go score points
- 51:08Speaker 2: in this next game also. That's going to be consistent
- 51:10Speaker 2: in the SEC. Big takeaway for Texas Hutton, they kind
- 51:13Speaker 2: of feel inevitable at this moment because they're so good
- 51:16Speaker 2: on defense.
- 51:17Speaker 1: Very good.
- 51:17Speaker 2: And they've got such good players. I'm also very underwhelmed
- 51:21Speaker 2: with Arch Manning. I continue to be overwhelmed. Yeah, and again,
- 51:26Speaker 2: I watch Arch Manning and I think nothing special is
- 51:30Speaker 2: what I'm thinking. Clearly, I think there is something there.
- 51:35Speaker 2: We just haven't seen it unpacked. We haven't seen it
- 51:38Speaker 2: unwrapped yet as the total package. We just haven't. And
- 51:42Speaker 2: you continue to want more. How about the punt return, Jeff?
- 51:48Speaker 1: So.
- 51:49Speaker 2: That was an incredible moment, too. By the way, Kelly
- 51:52Speaker 2: in Vegas called it. Quay Moss was at Kansas State,
- 51:55Speaker 2: and she said he's about to return this punt when
- 51:57Speaker 2: he was set up at like the 50, and she's
- 51:59Speaker 2: just looking, punching us on the arm the whole time
- 52:01Speaker 2: he's running it.
- 52:01Speaker 1: Back for the touchdown. We've got to see if he's okay, too,
- 52:04Speaker 1: because he left the game with injury. But, yeah, I mean,
- 52:07Speaker 1: total yards in the game, 262 to 221. Texas had
- 52:08Speaker 1: 201 yards passing. Tennessee had 151. Tennessee completely stuffed Texas'
- 52:11Speaker 1: run game, 61 total yards passing.
- 52:18Speaker 2: Rushing. Tennessee got stuffed, too. Only 70 yards.
- 52:21Speaker 1: In the game. Yeah, I'm just, I'm underwhelmed by Arch.
- 52:24Speaker 2: But I also leave the game with Texas thinking, I
- 52:26Speaker 2: don't think Tennessee's going to see a better defense.
- 52:28Speaker 1: Probably not.
- 52:29Speaker 2: You know, the positive, like, Faison Brandon in game number
- 52:31Speaker 2: one in the SEC had to face the best defense
- 52:34Speaker 2: he will see all year. They don't play Georgia this year,
- 52:37Speaker 2: who would probably rival what Texas is doing, but outside
- 52:40Speaker 2: of that, He's going to have opportunities to move the
- 52:44Speaker 2: ball and make plays against the rest of the defenses
- 52:46Speaker 2: on the schedule.
- 52:47Speaker 1: You've got to do a better job.
- 52:48Speaker 2: And when you get opportunities against Texas, you've got to
- 52:52Speaker 2: take them. They got a couple pass interference calls, but
- 52:55Speaker 2: that first one to Radarius Jackson deep, I thought that
- 52:59Speaker 2: was a perfect pass. If he keeps running, he kind
- 53:01Speaker 2: of slowed up to get the pass interference. If he
- 53:04Speaker 2: keeps running, I think it's in his lap for a touchdown.
- 53:07Speaker 2: But he slowed down, got the pass interference. where he
- 53:10Speaker 2: should have kept running on that one. I didn't see.
- 53:13Speaker 1: The interaction between Holly Rowe and Sarkeesian. Have you seen
- 53:16Speaker 1: a replay of it by chance?
- 53:17Speaker 2: Yeah, it was very normal and just like the Texas offense, underwhelming,
- 53:22Speaker 2: leaving the game. I mean, even Arch Manning was kind
- 53:24Speaker 2: of weird. You know, Arch has retreated into this sort
- 53:27Speaker 2: of no personality mode ever since.
- 53:29Speaker 1: You know, all that stuff.
- 53:30Speaker 2: So he was, you know, I think Holly said something
- 53:33Speaker 2: like to him, hey, you were great today. What's it
- 53:35Speaker 2: like to come in here in this venue and play
- 53:37Speaker 2: great and get a win? And he was just like,
- 53:39Speaker 2: I didn't play well at all. Thanks to the defense
- 53:42Speaker 2: who bailed us out today. I mean, he was very upfront.
- 53:44Speaker 2: He's like, yeah, I didn't play great. I didn't play
- 53:46Speaker 2: good enough. Our offense didn't play well enough, but the
- 53:49Speaker 2: defense was amazing today. You know, crazy to come out
- 53:52Speaker 2: of here and get this win. And, you know, said
- 53:54Speaker 2: just the minimum amount of words possible from both Sark
- 53:58Speaker 2: and him in the post-game interview. So, No weirdness there
- 54:01Speaker 2: at all, but also I don't think you're going to
- 54:04Speaker 2: get a lot out of the two of them with
- 54:05Speaker 2: Holly Rowe either.
- 54:06Speaker 1: I'll say, man, I thought Texas handled the atmosphere very well. Yeah,
- 54:09Speaker 1: they did.
- 54:10Speaker 2: Other than Colin Simmons simulating urinating for the $ 15 personal foul.
- 54:17Speaker 1: I didn't see what he was doing. I just saw talk.
- 54:19Speaker 1: I heard the ref.
- 54:20Speaker 2: They just gave Tennessee a first down after, I think,
- 54:23Speaker 2: back-to-back sacks at that point.
- 54:25Speaker 1: Going to the bathroom, simulating going to the bathroom, or
- 54:27Speaker 1: whatever the ref said.
- 54:29Speaker 2: Yeah, that was stupid. Those are the things that just
- 54:32Speaker 2: kill me, too, especially in games like that. Like, dude,
- 54:36Speaker 2: you got a sack. Just run off the field, celebrate
- 54:38Speaker 2: with your team.
- 54:39Speaker 1: Just get off the field.
- 54:40Speaker 2: Your job as the defense is to get off the
- 54:42Speaker 2: field by any means necessary.
- 54:43Speaker 1: You did it.
- 54:44Speaker 2: It's fourth down. Run off the field. I don't... I
- 54:47Speaker 2: will never understand... the desire to stay and go back
- 54:50Speaker 2: and talk to somebody after you did your job and
- 54:53Speaker 2: got off the field. It's mind-numbingly stupid stuff. And Colin
- 54:57Speaker 2: Simmons was pretty damn stupid on that play in that moment. But, yeah, look,
- 55:02Speaker 2: I fully– when it was 20-10, the game was over.
- 55:05Speaker 2: So when Tennessee scored the late touch, I'm like, okay, cool.
- 55:08Speaker 1: They're going to cover the spread. And then I'm like, okay,
- 55:11Speaker 1: now at least Texas has to sweat an onside kick.
- 55:14Speaker 1: When they got that onside kick as easy as you're
- 55:16Speaker 1: going to see an onside kick recovery happen– With that,
- 55:20Speaker 1: that's the one that's where I'm thinking, okay, maybe.
- 55:25Speaker 2: But Tennessee's offense was just so bad. I still, you
- 55:28Speaker 2: just felt like the play of the game hunting to
- 55:30Speaker 2: me was Braylon Staley on the first play gets like
- 55:33Speaker 2: 12 or 13 yards. They go back and review it,
- 55:35Speaker 2: and his knee was down for a four-yard gain. Then
- 55:37Speaker 2: I think they get sacked or a penalty after that.
- 55:40Speaker 2: If that stands, he was down. I'm not arguing that
- 55:44Speaker 2: they shouldn't have said he was down. But if that's one,
- 55:46Speaker 2: if his knee stays above the turf, And they open
- 55:49Speaker 2: that now. They're on the 37, I think, at that point.
- 55:52Speaker 2: They're already in field goal range. That probably changes the
- 55:55Speaker 2: complexion of that final minute, 22 seconds. But, look, credit Texas.
- 56:00Speaker 2: Their defense is elite. They've already got wins over Ohio
- 56:03Speaker 2: State and at Tennessee right now. No one can claim
- 56:05Speaker 2: two wins as good as that. They're in the driver's
- 56:08Speaker 2: seat the rest of the way. We're going to talk
- 56:12Speaker 2: about Florida later. That's now a very interesting game with
- 56:14Speaker 2: Florida going to Texas later. In a few weeks, same
- 56:17Speaker 2: weekend at Alabama, we'll be at Tennessee. So, look, I
- 56:20Speaker 2: leave the game thinking, you know, Tennessee defensively way better
- 56:24Speaker 2: than I expected coming into the year. Offensively right now,
- 56:28Speaker 2: worse than.
- 56:29Speaker 1: I expected against SEC opponents.
- 56:32Speaker 2: And, you know, how do you end up in a
- 56:33Speaker 2: situation with an 18-year-old starting quarterback? I think Faison Brandon's
- 56:36Speaker 2: going to be great. I think he's done a nice
- 56:38Speaker 2: job so far. I think he had a tough day. But, Hutton,
- 56:41Speaker 2: you end up with an 18-year-old freshman because a judge
- 56:44Speaker 2: in Knox County doesn't grant Joey Aguilar the extra year.
- 56:47Speaker 1: I mean, let's kind of face it. That's what Tennessee,
- 56:49Speaker 1: I think, was banging on to some extent. Also because
- 56:51Speaker 1: other quarterbacks turned them down.
- 56:53Speaker 2: Sam Leavitt. Sam Leavitt was the one they wanted. Brendan
- 56:56Speaker 2: Sorsby originally was one they talked to also. I don't
- 56:59Speaker 2: think they wanted Pribula. I think they could have had
- 57:01Speaker 2: him who ended up in Virginia because I know he
- 57:04Speaker 2: visited around the same time or right after Leavitt. But
- 57:07Speaker 2: they could have had him as a veteran option also.
- 57:09Speaker 1: But look, you are where you are.
- 57:11Speaker 2: Faison Brandon has a load of talent. I think he's
- 57:14Speaker 2: got a really good head on his shoulders. I like
- 57:16Speaker 2: his demeanor. He's got to feel the freedom to go
- 57:19Speaker 2: let it loose at times in these games. And don't
- 57:23Speaker 2: be so afraid to fail. I don't think Josh Heupel
- 57:25Speaker 2: in big games is the afraid-to-fail.
- 57:27Speaker 1: Type of guy, too.
- 57:28Speaker 2: But Tennessee's performed that way in big games recently.
- 57:31Speaker 1: It's got to be better.
- 57:32Speaker 2: I mean, the expectation around that program– All weekend was, yeah,
- 57:37Speaker 2: it's going to be a close game. If you had
- 57:39Speaker 2: told me five, ten years ago Tennessee's going to play
- 57:41Speaker 2: the number one team in the country and everyone's going
- 57:44Speaker 2: to be saying, yeah, it's probably going to be really close.
- 57:46Speaker 2: It's going to be a one-score game late and somebody's
- 57:49Speaker 2: going to win or somebody's going to lose. That's where
- 57:51Speaker 2: they are as a program. You've got to kick in
- 57:53Speaker 2: the door now. You've got to go win one of these.
- 57:55Speaker 2: You get another chance against Alabama who's going to be
- 57:57Speaker 2: top ten. In a few weeks, you've got to go
- 58:00Speaker 2: do it. But to get to that game being a
- 58:03Speaker 2: huge game, you've got to handle Auburn at home. You've
- 58:06Speaker 2: got to go to beat a bad Arkansas team. In
- 58:08Speaker 2: the next two weeks, you get to 5-1, Hunt. You're
- 58:11Speaker 2: facing Alabama at 5-1, and boom, you're there in late October.
- 58:15Speaker 2: Once again, everything is on the table if you can
- 58:17Speaker 2: win that game, if you have college football playoff aspirations.
- 58:20Speaker 1: What is Shane Beamer facing at South Carolina right now,
- 58:23Speaker 1: and what messages is he sending? We'll discuss that SEC review,
- 58:27Speaker 1: Hard Rock, and much more where Hutton and Withrow are
- 58:29Speaker 1: presented by Hard Rock Bet.
