- 0:23chickens. Hey everybody.
- 0:28Good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:31Today, I want to talk to you about slowing down and actually
- 0:35taking time to enjoy things. You know, this is a long weekend
- 0:40when I'm recording this and actually, you know, Labor Day
- 0:44weekend. So it's the end of summer and,
- 0:47you know, official end of summer that is.
- 0:50And I think, oftentimes for myself, I'm speaking for myself
- 0:55strictly right now, when I know that I've got an extra day where
- 0:59there's quote unquote, Week, I will often figure out things to
- 1:03do because I am one of these people that constantly likes to
- 1:08be doing things and not necessarily sitting still and
- 1:13it's as wonderful as it can be to get stuff done.
- 1:18It is also a curse because I don't take the time to take a
- 1:21break and slow down. So as I was getting ready to do
- 1:23my recording for you this morning, I started thinking
- 1:26about what I was doing for the weekend and lo and behold I was
- 1:30like like I had this massive to do list and I looked at myself
- 1:34and I was like, what am I doing? Why am I not just saying this
- 1:37none of this is urgent and why am I not pausing and just taking
- 1:41time to rest? And a lot of that was predicated
- 1:45on the fact that the weather was going to rain this weekend?
- 1:47We are in a rainy Zone and the weather was supposed to be bad.
- 1:51So I thought to myself, well if the weather is going to be bad,
- 1:54there's no reason that I can't get done a bunch of websites
- 1:58stuff. I can't go get the revamp done.
- 2:01Can't get all the pictures put in.
- 2:02I can't do all the stuff that all I wanted to about the
- 2:05chickens and everything else and and then I realized what am I
- 2:08doing again? There I go filling every moment
- 2:12that I possibly can with things that I can do.
- 2:17Sure I can do them, but should I do them?
- 2:19Or should I take the time to spend it, doing something else,
- 2:23having some fun. And it made me think about how
- 2:26many other people out there are in the same boat as I do.
- 2:30Now I have the the ability to slow down any time, I hang out
- 2:35with my chickens, which is why they're so important to me
- 2:38because I will sit with them. I hang out with them, I like
- 2:41them. I also can do this, when I
- 2:43Garden, I really appreciate being in my garden and my brain
- 2:46goes blank when I'm in the garden.
- 2:48And I like that, it's my meditation space, but you know
- 2:52what, I'm still doing stuff. I'm still putting myself in a
- 2:56position of getting something done.
- 2:58And I think that's the part that I Find.
- 3:01So difficult is recognizing. There's a difference.
- 3:05I don't always need to be doing things.
- 3:07I can just say hey this is going to be a pause button.
- 3:11I'm going to just pause and relax.
- 3:13I'm going to sit down and chill out.
- 3:15I'm not going to cause myself the stress and anguish I put
- 3:21myself through for not getting stuff, done.
- 3:25And I want everybody else to realize we all struggle with
- 3:28this. This is why I'm bringing it up.
- 3:31Beating ourselves up for certain things.
- 3:33Mine just has to be, for always getting stuff done, because I'm
- 3:37that person, I just don't like to sit still.
- 3:40It's just not part of my makeup. I don't like it.
- 3:42I feel like if I'm moving and doing, I feel great and I feel
- 3:46happy. But that doesn't mean that I
- 3:48don't need a break. That doesn't mean I shouldn't
- 3:50take a nap in the afternoon and that was the next piece.
- 3:54I realize, hey, you know what? It's supposed to rain this
- 3:56afternoon, he could sit down and actually read a book, or take a
- 3:59nap because Those are things that I don't normally do.
- 4:03Now, is it okay to avoid it? If I genuinely don't like it?
- 4:07Yes, it is. But should I at least recognize
- 4:10that I can take a break? Yes.
- 4:13And this is what I want you guys to do.
- 4:15I want you to start thinking about the things that you can
- 4:18do, and that you normally don't do, if you genuinely don't like
- 4:22them, it's okay. But hey, you know, I genuinely
- 4:25do love to read, I read all the time and usually, it's in small
- 4:30chunks. Honks 15 minutes, 15 minutes, 15
- 4:32minutes. Sometimes when I go to the
- 4:34beach, I can get to actually read at entire two chapters,
- 4:39three chapters at a time, just depends, but it takes something
- 4:43like that being at the beach. That's a place.
- 4:46Where I know, I will disconnect where I know, I will have fun
- 4:49and I don't get to go enough. Just based on schedule whether
- 4:54coordination, you know, whatever it might be to make that a
- 4:58habit. So, this is about looking Your
- 5:01habits and saying am I giving myself enough time to slow down?
- 5:04So I've given myself this assignment that for the month of
- 5:08September as we go into it that I'm going to be monitoring the
- 5:13rate of which I actually am willing to slow myself down the
- 5:17rate of which I am actually willing to look at things the
- 5:19rate of which I am paying attention to this piece of
- 5:24myself and saying, am I doing this enough each week so that
- 5:28the last part of this year As we roll into it, that I am
- 5:32essentially extremely aware of how much I'm pouring out.
- 5:36How much time I'm taking for myself and how much I am really
- 5:41not resting and taking time to refill, you know, refurbish my
- 5:46brain, if you will, when I do it, re-engage my creativity in a
- 5:51different way, just from relaxing, and I encourage you
- 5:54all to do the same because, you know, the last half of the year
- 5:58is always a challenge. Because Some of us are just
- 6:02burned out, especially after the last couple years, we've had
- 6:05boy, isn't it? It's an understatement to say
- 6:07that we're all a little fried emotionally from everything
- 6:10that's gone on. So I encourage you to take the
- 6:12time that you need for yourself pour into yourself right now if
- 6:16you need to and rest, relax, do the things that make sense for
- 6:21you and grab back. Some of that good quality get in
- 6:26touch with yourself time because it matters and it makes a
- 6:29difference to your Wellness. Your overall well-being.
- 6:32So I hope you guys go off today and find something wonderful on
- 6:37this holiday weekend to relax and do I know.
- 6:41I'm going to. Alright, have a great day
- 6:43everybody. Bye.
