- 1:24SPEAKER_03: I'm your host, Caitlin, and we are coming to you 100% on location from the historic downtown Carlinville Square.
- 1:34SPEAKER_03: It's time for our community segment powered by our 10x partners and official drink sponsor, Sips Coffee Co.
- 1:41SPEAKER_03: Ryan and Lindy couldn't be out here in the crowds with me today, but you already know Sips has been keeping all of Carlinville caffeinated through this entire weekend.
- 1:49SPEAKER_03: Today, my husband is behind the camera with my DGI Osmo, and we are taking you on a walking tour of the Carlinville Alliance Carnival.
- 1:58SPEAKER_03: This massive event doesn't just happen, it is fueled by incredible volunteers and dedicated high schoolers.
- 2:05SPEAKER_03: So we are hitting the pavement to talk to the real stars of the weekend.
- 2:08SPEAKER_03: Let's go! All right, we're walking through the square right now, and the energy is absolutely incredible.
- 2:15SPEAKER_03: You can hear the tractor wagons pulling kids around, you can smell the food.
- 2:19SPEAKER_03: I mean, guys, you could see a picture of the Lions Carnival and you just you could smell it.
- 2:22SPEAKER_03: You know what I'm saying?
- 2:23SPEAKER_03: Those fish sandwiches, man, coming directly to my mouth here in about 0.5 seconds.
- 2:28SPEAKER_03: But you know what?
- 2:29SPEAKER_03: This is what carnival is all about.
- 2:31SPEAKER_03: It takes an army to put this on, you guys.
- 2:33SPEAKER_03: So what we're gonna do, we're gonna find a few of the volunteers who are actually making this happen right now.
- 2:38SPEAKER_03: We're gonna bother them and see, you know, what all the hoop law's about.
- 2:42SPEAKER_03: Let's go.
- 2:42SPEAKER_03: We're standing here with the secretary of the Lions Club.
- 2:47SPEAKER_03: And guys, also I want to tell you, he's a fantastic teacher.
- 2:50SPEAKER_03: Oh my gosh.
- 2:50SPEAKER_03: He was my son's second grade teacher.
- 2:52SPEAKER_03: And I mean, it's hard to get into him.
- 2:54SPEAKER_03: He gets requested.
- 2:55SPEAKER_03: This is Kevin Loveless.
- 2:57SPEAKER_03: So, Kevin, today I want to ask you, how long have you been volunteering here?
- 3:01SPEAKER_04: So, this is about my third year.
- 3:03SPEAKER_04: Um, I've worked the cake stand every year.
- 3:05SPEAKER_04: Um, and I usually I spin the wheel because since I'm a teacher, I have a loud voice and they people can hear me.
- 3:10SPEAKER_03: So Which is why we wanted to interview you today.
- 3:13SPEAKER_03: That's right.
- 3:13SPEAKER_03: Okay, so what I want to say, like, why did you choose the cake stand?
- 3:18SPEAKER_04: Yes, because it's I I get to see everybody, and so it's kind of nice to be able to see everybody.
- 3:23SPEAKER_03: I it really is.
- 3:24SPEAKER_03: It's so fun.
- 3:25SPEAKER_03: Have you ever won a cake yourself?
- 3:28SPEAKER_04: Oh yeah.
- 3:28SPEAKER_04: Every year, every year.
- 3:30SPEAKER_03: Okay, guys, we make sure you come visit Kevin Loveless at the cake stand at the Lions Carnival.
- 3:35SPEAKER_03: If you're listening to this after the Lions Carnival has has ended, we're sorry, but we'll see you next year.
- 3:40SPEAKER_04: Yeah, put it put on your calendar for next year.
- 3:42SPEAKER_03: Yeah, thank you, Kevin!
- 3:43SPEAKER_04: Thank you.
- 3:44SPEAKER_03: Okay, we've found another dedicated volunteer right here at the Lions Carnival.
- 3:48SPEAKER_03: Who would we have here today?
- 3:50SPEAKER_07: I'm Ron.
- 3:51SPEAKER_03: Ron, how long have you been working with the Lions Club?
- 3:54SPEAKER_07: This is my 36th carnival.
- 3:56SPEAKER_03: Oh my gosh, we're so lucky to have you.
- 3:59SPEAKER_07: That means I'm freaking old.
- 4:00SPEAKER_03: I don't think so.
- 4:00SPEAKER_03: That means maybe what?
- 4:01SPEAKER_03: You started when you were 12.
- 4:03SPEAKER_03: So what would that make you?
- 4:04SPEAKER_03: So, what's your favorite part about the carnival?
- 4:07SPEAKER_07: It's it's a homecoming.
- 4:08SPEAKER_07: Everybody's here.
- 4:09SPEAKER_03: Everybody's here, you get to see everybody.
- 4:11SPEAKER_03: Now, what part do you usually work?
- 4:13SPEAKER_07: I uh take care of the equipment.
- 4:14SPEAKER_07: So I've been working on stuff since like February, trying to get it ready for the carnival.
- 4:18SPEAKER_07: I do that every year.
- 4:19SPEAKER_03: So Well, thank you so much for giving us your time today and for all of your years of dedication to our very favorite weekend at Carlamo.
- 4:28unknown: Thank you.
- 4:28SPEAKER_03: I have caught up with Chad and Amber McGartland.
- 4:32SPEAKER_03: Chad, you've been a volunteer with the Lions for how long?
- 4:35SPEAKER_05: Just two years.
- 4:36SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 4:49SPEAKER_05: I have two young daughters, as much as I would like to spend time with them.
- 4:53SPEAKER_05: If we don't volunteer to make this work, it doesn't happen.
- 4:56SPEAKER_05: So we are enjoying everything.
- 4:59SPEAKER_03: Yes, thank you so much for that.
- 5:01SPEAKER_03: And I are your little girls gonna be running around here tonight?
- 5:03SPEAKER_03: Yeah, they're on a fire truck right now.
- 5:05SPEAKER_05: Yeah, they're on a fire truck.
- 5:07SPEAKER_05: They've got money.
- 5:08SPEAKER_05: We are in a safe community, we trust everybody here.
- 5:11SPEAKER_05: It's amazing.
- 5:12SPEAKER_03: So you said you're gonna be driving the fire truck tonight, Chad?
- 5:16SPEAKER_05: I will not be driving anything, I will be making sure nobody falls off the back.
- 5:19SPEAKER_03: Okay, awesome.
- 5:20SPEAKER_03: Well, thank you both.
- 5:21SPEAKER_03: And you enjoy your night at the Lions Carnival.
- 5:24SPEAKER_05: America.
- 5:25SPEAKER_03: Okay, you guys really didn't think that we would come to the Lions Carnival without giving a taste test of the very best sandwich you can ever eat.
- 5:33SPEAKER_03: The fish sandwich and fries.
- 5:34SPEAKER_03: So I have my husband here.
- 5:36SPEAKER_03: He's not really a Carlville native.
- 5:38SPEAKER_03: So we're gonna have him taste test the delicious fish sandwich.
- 5:42SPEAKER_03: Go ahead.
- 5:42SPEAKER_03: He has he has completed it with tartar sauce.
- 5:44SPEAKER_03: I can tell it's so crunchy and fresh.
- 5:46SPEAKER_03: His mouth is full and he's given it a really good.
- 5:49SPEAKER_03: Let's let's get him chew it.
- 5:51SPEAKER_03: But as you can see, guys, we've got the fries equipped with ketchup, obviously.
- 5:56SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 5:57SPEAKER_03: Delicious, crunchy fish sandwich, tartar sauce, or put a ketchup on it.
- 6:01SPEAKER_03: They're also serving up corn dogs and regular hot dogs and soda.
- 6:06SPEAKER_03: So you gotta make sure to stop by the fish sandwich stand here at the Lions Carnival in Carlinville.
- 6:12SPEAKER_03: Are you gonna give a rating?
- 6:13SPEAKER_04: I'm gonna give it a 100 out of 10.
- 6:16SPEAKER_03: Oh my gosh, Lions Carnival always winning.
- 6:19SPEAKER_03: Okay, this is what the Lions Carnival is truly all about.
- 6:22SPEAKER_03: It's about the kids.
- 6:23SPEAKER_03: And we've caught up with um some of my son's teammates, football players, and friends, and people even coming from other towns to the Lions Carnival because it's so fun.
- 6:33SPEAKER_03: So we're gonna ask them what their favorite um thing about the Lions Carnival is.
- 6:37SPEAKER_03: So you guys are first gonna tell your name.
- 6:39SPEAKER_03: Now they're all 13, just for context.
- 6:41SPEAKER_03: This is for our listeners.
- 6:42SPEAKER_03: 13-year-old boys, so so be ready for this.
- 6:45SPEAKER_03: Alright, tell us your name and what your favorite thing about the Lions Carnival is.
- 6:51SPEAKER_02: Probably the bunking Bronco.
- 6:53SPEAKER_02: Perfect.
- 6:54SPEAKER_02: Okay, tell us your name and your favorite thing.
- 6:56SPEAKER_02: I'm TJ, and my favorite part is probably just a vibe of everything.
- 6:59SPEAKER_02: Like everything's just so happy and like beautiful, you know?
- 7:02SPEAKER_02: It is, I totally agree.
- 7:04SPEAKER_12: Great answer.
- 7:05SPEAKER_12: Jensen, I just like like the environment around overall, just really good.
- 7:10SPEAKER_12: And seeing our friends like unplanned is really cool.
- 7:13SPEAKER_03: So that is, I like that.
- 7:15SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 7:15SPEAKER_12: I'm Emmett, and it's probably the food.
- 7:17SPEAKER_03: I'm with Emmett with the food.
- 7:19SPEAKER_03: What what do you get?
- 7:19SPEAKER_03: A fish sandwich?
- 7:20SPEAKER_12: No, a hot dog.
- 7:21SPEAKER_03: Okay, he likes a hot dog.
- 7:23SPEAKER_03: Okay, Colson.
- 7:24SPEAKER_03: Now look, Chuck, you're gonna go.
- 7:25SPEAKER_03: Uh-oh, you're dropping things.
- 7:27SPEAKER_13: Tell your name and what your favorite thing is.
- 7:28SPEAKER_13: Uh my name is Colson, and my favorite thing is probably the mini games that we could do back there.
- 7:33SPEAKER_08: I love it.
- 7:34SPEAKER_08: All right, Chuck.
- 7:35SPEAKER_08: My name is Charlie, but my favorite thing is probably just all the people and how we're all coming together.
- 7:40SPEAKER_08: I love it too.
- 7:42SPEAKER_08: Alright, next up.
- 7:43SPEAKER_08: My name is Diego, and I like the fish sandwiches.
- 7:46SPEAKER_02: Me too! What do you put on yours or do you have it plain?
- 7:48SPEAKER_02: I just have it plain.
- 7:49SPEAKER_02: Alright, he's a plain guy.
- 7:50SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 7:51SPEAKER_02: Next up.
- 7:51SPEAKER_02: My name's Colson.
- 7:52SPEAKER_02: Oh, my favorite ride's probably the double bonk of Broncos.
- 7:55SPEAKER_02: It really is.
- 7:56SPEAKER_02: And those are fun, but guys, I almost fell off of one earlier.
- 7:59SPEAKER_03: Alright.
- 8:00SPEAKER_03: Are you guys all coming back tomorrow night or what?
- 8:02SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 8:03SPEAKER_03: Alright, and are we gonna win the game tomorrow?
- 8:04SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah.
- 8:05SPEAKER_03: All right.
- 8:06SPEAKER_03: Have fun.
- 8:06SPEAKER_03: Thank you guys.
- 8:08SPEAKER_03: Welcome by.
- 8:09SPEAKER_03: If you've ever been to the carnival, you know that another huge part of this weekend is the Lions Club Queen candidates.
- 8:16SPEAKER_03: These high school girls hustle all weekend long.
- 8:19SPEAKER_03: I mean, they're selling tickets to raise money for our community.
- 8:22SPEAKER_03: They have to learn to articulate and be outgoing and confident to people they don't even know at a young age, of 16 years old.
- 8:29SPEAKER_03: So this is something very good for them and of course our community.
- 8:33SPEAKER_03: They're on their feet constantly.
- 8:34SPEAKER_03: So we're gonna go track a few of them down and see how they're holding up before the big announcement tomorrow night.
- 8:40SPEAKER_03: I finally caught up with one of the Lions Queen candidates, Isabella Alibra.
- 8:45SPEAKER_03: Isabella, thank you.
- 8:46SPEAKER_03: Yeah, thank you.
- 8:47SPEAKER_03: Okay, so we've got some questions for her because you know, this is a big taking on.
- 8:51SPEAKER_14: How long have you been doing this?
- 8:53SPEAKER_14: We started about mid June, and then we've gone till now.
- 8:57SPEAKER_14: So it's been all summer long to now.
- 8:59SPEAKER_14: Wow, and think of a young girl spending her whole summer doing good for the community.
- 9:03SPEAKER_14: Yes, it's been so fulfilling to do it, and it's been so nice to raise money for such good causes that just helps our community out and just it gives back, and it's just an amazing thing to do, and I felt so fulfilled doing it, meeting all the people and just doing all the things.
- 9:18SPEAKER_14: It's been so fun, and I would definitely say it's been one of my most favorite things by senior year.
- 9:23SPEAKER_14: Oh my gosh, I love that.
- 9:24SPEAKER_14: So, who do you have with you here tonight?
- 9:26SPEAKER_03: I have my boyfriend, Reed.
- 9:28SPEAKER_03: And that's Reed Conbury.
- 9:29SPEAKER_03: A lot of you are gonna know his family owns Brave Hazel Boutique, so he probably knows a lot of people too, and then you get tickets.
- 9:35SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah.
- 9:36SPEAKER_03: So a lot of help.
- 9:37SPEAKER_03: It's been great.
- 9:38SPEAKER_03: Good job, Reed.
- 9:38SPEAKER_03: Keep working.
- 9:39SPEAKER_03: He's off camera for those of you who are wondering.
- 9:41SPEAKER_03: So, what are you guys planning to do after the big announcement tomorrow night of the winner?
- 9:46SPEAKER_14: Well, tomorrow night, we're probably just gonna hang out, take some pictures, and then after the fact, I'm gonna have some of my friends over and we're all just gonna hang out and just celebrate the night, whether win or loss.
- 9:57SPEAKER_14: And it's not really a loss no matter what, because it's just been such a fun thing to do and just raise the money and give back no matter what place.
- 10:04SPEAKER_14: So we're just all gonna hang out and have some fun.
- 10:06SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and you deserve that after all the hard work that you did.
- 10:09SPEAKER_03: Well, Isabella, thank you so much for stopping and and talking with us.
- 10:12SPEAKER_03: You're beautiful and best of luck, and thank you so much for all you've done for our community in the Lions Club.
- 10:17SPEAKER_03: Thank you so much.
- 10:18SPEAKER_03: Okay, guys, I have caught up with the true main event of the Lions Carnival.
- 10:24SPEAKER_03: The reigning Lions Club Carnival Queen, Riley Owsley.
- 10:30SPEAKER_03: Riley, thank you so much for talking with us.
- 10:32SPEAKER_03: Yeah, of course.
- 10:32SPEAKER_03: Anytime.
- 10:33SPEAKER_03: So, you guys, Riley, we just found out she came home from college to give off her reigning crown.
- 10:39SPEAKER_03: Now, where are you going to college?
- 10:40SPEAKER_10: Um, I'm attending Yale University this year.
- 10:43SPEAKER_10: And what are you going for?
- 10:44SPEAKER_10: Um, right now I'm studying mathematics.
- 10:46SPEAKER_10: That could probably change, but we'll see for right now.
- 10:50SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 10:50SPEAKER_03: I mean, could could we get any better over here at Lions Club?
- 10:54SPEAKER_03: And we also heard that you had a record-breaking year last year.
- 10:57SPEAKER_03: Yes, yeah.
- 10:58SPEAKER_03: So the girls have a lot to live up to, but I know that they've been working so hard.
- 11:02SPEAKER_10: I know they've been putting a lot of work into selling tickets this summer.
- 11:04SPEAKER_03: Absolutely.
- 11:05SPEAKER_03: So, what is like the biggest takeaway that you you got from this experience?
- 11:09SPEAKER_10: Well, I think the main thing that I learned from this experience is just how much the Lions Club is involved in the community.
- 11:15SPEAKER_10: I knew that it was a very um important club in the community, but getting to sell tickets for the club kind of gave a uh first person view of just everything that they do and all the people that they help throughout Cromville and also all throughout Illinois.
- 11:27SPEAKER_10: So it's just been a great thing to see all the ways that they help people through this community.
- 11:32SPEAKER_03: I agree too.
- 11:33SPEAKER_03: I've learned so much.
- 11:34SPEAKER_03: You know, I didn't realize all the things that you guys are involved in.
- 11:38SPEAKER_03: And at such a young age, to be able to say this and be a part of it is absolutely fantastic.
- 11:43SPEAKER_03: We thank you so much.
- 11:44SPEAKER_03: So, what about tomorrow night?
- 11:46SPEAKER_03: What does that consist of?
- 11:47SPEAKER_03: Like, what will you do?
- 11:48SPEAKER_03: Will you give a speech or what?
- 11:49SPEAKER_10: Well, tomorrow night, me and the candidates will walk around a little bit and then we'll go and we'll have our coronation here.
- 11:55SPEAKER_10: I think the coronation is at nine.
- 11:58SPEAKER_10: It's at other.
- 11:59SPEAKER_10: Yes, but well then we'll do the coronation.
- 12:01SPEAKER_10: I'll give my crown to the next queen.
- 12:04SPEAKER_03: Okay, so guys, make sure by the time our listeners are listening to this, the queen will already have been crowned.
- 12:09SPEAKER_03: But again, we do this every year.
- 12:10SPEAKER_03: It's so important for our community in the Lions Club and the money that they give back right to our community.
- 12:15SPEAKER_03: Riley, thank you so much.
- 12:16SPEAKER_03: We wish you the best of luck at Yale.
- 12:19SPEAKER_03: Thank you so much.
- 12:20SPEAKER_03: And we can't wait to see your pretty dress tomorrow night.
- 12:22SPEAKER_03: Yes, thank you.
- 12:23SPEAKER_03: Bye.
- 12:23SPEAKER_03: Bye.
- 12:24SPEAKER_03: Well, we're wrapping up our time here on the square.
- 12:27SPEAKER_03: It was so great talking to all of the amazing volunteers and, of course, several of our queen candidates.
- 12:32SPEAKER_03: They're working incredibly hard before the big announcement on Saturday night.
- 12:36SPEAKER_03: Make sure you're tuning in on Facebook so that way you can see who the newly crowned queen is.
- 12:42SPEAKER_03: But no matter who wins, they all did such an amazing job for this town.
- 12:46SPEAKER_03: That's gonna do it for our special on-location community segment.
- 12:49SPEAKER_03: A huge thank you to the Carnival Lions Club, everyone who pitched in this weekend, and of course, our 10 ex partners and official drink sponsors, Ryan and Lindy Cleeman of Sips Coffee Co.
- 13:00SPEAKER_03: If you need to recover from your carnival weekend, of course, make sure you swing by Sips at any of the three locations: Gillespie, Carlinville, Verdon, and make sure to grab your favorite drink, or the Scarecrow Latte, which is my favorite.
- 13:13SPEAKER_03: I'm Caitlin.
