- 0:01Speaker 1: You're listening to Hawk Talk with former Seahawks wide receiver
- 0:05Speaker 1: Michael Bumpus. After ten yard line. Second to day three
- 0:08Speaker 1: wide receivers now in motion as Bumpas left to right,
- 0:12Speaker 1: Julius Jones, a single setback Matt Pumpecks looking at the
- 0:14Speaker 1: goal line, he throws it into the end zone. Touchdown,
- 0:17Speaker 1: Saint Hawks. It's Michael Bumpas with a diving catching the
- 0:21Speaker 1: end zone. Our ten yard touchdown reception for Bumpus, and
- 0:25Speaker 1: the kid out of Washington State has found himself a
- 0:29Speaker 1: place on this team. Powered by Seahawks dot Com. Week
- 0:33Speaker 1: three is here in his time for a Hawk Talk preview.
- 0:35Speaker 1: The Seahawks are playing the Minnesota Bikes this week, looking
- 0:39Speaker 1: to bounce back as usual. It's Michael Bumpas. I'm here
- 0:42Speaker 1: with NASA Toby. NASA is gonna hit us with these
- 0:44Speaker 1: injury updates. Overall, pretty solid injury update from head coach
- 0:47Speaker 1: Pete Carroll. Ryan Money was inactive against the Titans last week,
- 0:51Speaker 1: but it's making progress. His strength is really coming back,
- 0:54Speaker 1: and from what I heard today, they tested him for
- 0:57Speaker 1: the first time in three or four days, and so
- 1:00Speaker 1: I don't know what that means yet, but his strength
- 1:03Speaker 1: came way back from where it was, so he's feeling
- 1:06Speaker 1: much better. We can find out if that's enough to
- 1:08Speaker 1: let him play. I don't know yet. Peker also gave
- 1:10Speaker 1: an update on Brandon Shell, DK Metcalf and Rashad Penny. First,
- 1:13Speaker 1: Brandon Shell, he's still a little sore right now. He
- 1:16Speaker 1: won't go to day. We'll see what happens this week.
- 1:19Speaker 1: Go day to day here, Okay, Um, he's he's running
- 1:24Speaker 1: and he's gonna he won't make it this week unless
- 1:28Speaker 1: it's a real surprise at the end of the week
- 1:30Speaker 1: due to the process that he has to make one
- 1:34Speaker 1: ground running and all that. Yeah, yeah, he's going today,
- 1:39Speaker 1: all right, Bump. Like you mentioned, the Seahawks are taken
- 1:41Speaker 1: on the O and two Minnesota Vikings. Who's next, Who's next?
- 1:48Speaker 1: Who's next? The Vikings had a rough start to the season,
- 1:51Speaker 1: starting O and two and two heartbreaking losses in tough fashion.
- 1:54Speaker 1: They lose twenty seven to twenty four to the Cincinnati
- 1:57Speaker 1: Bengals and overtime. Also dropped a tough game last week
- 2:00Speaker 1: thirty four to thirty three to the Arizona Cardinals. Now
- 2:03Speaker 1: week one, I mentioned they lost in a heartbreaker to
- 2:06Speaker 1: the Bengals. They were down fourteen in the second half.
- 2:09Speaker 1: Scratch Claude fought their way back, needed a fifty three
- 2:12Speaker 1: yard field goal to send the game into overtime. They
- 2:15Speaker 1: got it in overtime. Dalvin Cook had a critical fumble
- 2:18Speaker 1: that led to the excuse me led to the Bengals
- 2:20Speaker 1: game winning field goal and overtime. Vikings had to overcome
- 2:23Speaker 1: lots of mistakes. They're penaltized twelve times for one hundred
- 2:27Speaker 1: and sixteen yards, four penalties Bump in the first eight plays,
- 2:31Speaker 1: so couldn't have started any worse. Last week, Week two,
- 2:35Speaker 1: the pain continued for those Vikings. They took on a
- 2:37Speaker 1: tough Cardinals team coming off a big win over the Titans.
- 2:41Speaker 1: But Bump, let me tell you something, man, how this
- 2:44Speaker 1: game ended painful? So the Vikings are lining up for
- 2:49Speaker 1: a thirty seven yard field goal with the game on
- 2:52Speaker 1: the line put down, Joseph, Are you kidding me, mister Wright?
- 3:01Speaker 1: He mister right, Paul, Oh my, just mister Wright. Watch
- 3:13Speaker 1: a gut punch to a team fall that play after
- 3:17Speaker 1: play toward the yet fought its way out. All right,
- 3:23Speaker 1: that's a courtesy of the Vikings radio network. Man Bump,
- 3:26Speaker 1: real quick before you get into this. I have to.
- 3:28Speaker 1: I feel for the guy. Paul Allen, who's a play
- 3:30Speaker 1: by play voice for the Minnesota Vikings, is a great
- 3:33Speaker 1: job along with Peter burs It's the color man. It's
- 3:36Speaker 1: tough man. Especially in Arizona. The broadcast angle where those
- 3:39Speaker 1: booths are is not in a good location. It's in
- 3:41Speaker 1: the top corner. From that vantage point, it's hard to
- 3:44Speaker 1: different differentiate if it's good or not. That's why a
- 3:47Speaker 1: lot of situations like that, play by play guys usually
- 3:50Speaker 1: wakes even though it's painful and everyone's like, why are
- 3:52Speaker 1: they giving us a call? They wait to see that
- 3:54Speaker 1: official signal. Unfortunately, he jumped the gun and you could
- 3:57Speaker 1: just feel the pain in his voice. Oh man, he
- 4:00Speaker 1: went from the most excited dude in the stadium to
- 4:02Speaker 1: the most disappointed ad. That was a tough way to lose,
- 4:06Speaker 1: the Vikings man. Two weeks in a row, heartbreak losses.
- 4:09Speaker 1: But they've been in the game. That's why I look
- 4:11Speaker 1: at this team and I'm like, this isn't a bad
- 4:13Speaker 1: football team. They got some guys. Now they played against
- 4:16Speaker 1: Kyler Murray. Kyler Murray doesn't get the love he deserves
- 4:19Speaker 1: so far this year, okay, he was twenty nine to
- 4:21Speaker 1: thirty six, four hundred yards, three touchdowns, did have two interceptions,
- 4:25Speaker 1: but he ran for thirty one yards and another touchdown.
- 4:28Speaker 1: Everybody was touching a ball. It fell like he spread
- 4:30Speaker 1: the wealth around to six different receivers who had three
- 4:33Speaker 1: receptions each. Kyler Murray needs some more love, He needs
- 4:36Speaker 1: some more respect. Kylin Murray is scary good right now.
- 4:38Speaker 1: And he's in year three and he's slowly figuring out
- 4:41Speaker 1: that offense. It feels like the game is slowing down,
- 4:43Speaker 1: and he just has those dynamic plays. I hate to
- 4:46Speaker 1: compare him to Russell Wilson, but Russell Wilson opened up
- 4:49Speaker 1: the door for quarterbacks like Kyler Murray, and you just
- 4:52Speaker 1: see those plays. Like in Tennessee. They couldn't get him down,
- 4:54Speaker 1: flicking the wrist downfield, you can't keep him in the pocket,
- 4:57Speaker 1: rolling out to his right, left doesn't matter. Ala Murray
- 5:00Speaker 1: is absolutely electric. Dalvin Cook another good running back, rush
- 5:04Speaker 1: for over fourteen hundred yards last year, had twenty two
- 5:06Speaker 1: carries one hundred and thirty one yards. Now, I just
- 5:09Speaker 1: did a film session. You guys check that out. It
- 5:11Speaker 1: should be on the Seahawks YouTube this week and Dalvin
- 5:14Speaker 1: Cook in the run scheme for the Minnesota is impressive.
- 5:17Speaker 1: They like that gap, they like to pull guards, they
- 5:19Speaker 1: like to down block, they like to lead with the
- 5:21Speaker 1: full back. It's gonna be another tough week when it
- 5:24Speaker 1: comes to stopping the running backs. Dalvin Cook is a
- 5:27Speaker 1: downhill runner, but he does have some wiggle, has some
- 5:29Speaker 1: breakaway speed as well. Yeah. Man, it's after a tough week.
- 5:32Speaker 1: We're getting this a little bit later. After a tough
- 5:34Speaker 1: week stopping Derrick Henry last week. For the Seahawks defense,
- 5:36Speaker 1: they're gonna have their work cut out for him. Dalvin
- 5:38Speaker 1: Cook is a very talented back, and Mike Zimmer in
- 5:41Speaker 1: the Vikings scheme and system that is similar in the
- 5:43Speaker 1: sense of what you've seen for Pete Carroll over the years.
- 5:45Speaker 1: They're gonna run the football. They're good at running football.
- 5:47Speaker 1: They want to play good defense, so it'll be a
- 5:49Speaker 1: good matchup Bear kirk Cousins. He turned out a pretty
- 5:52Speaker 1: soliday two hundred and forty four yards with three touchdowns.
- 5:54Speaker 1: As we mentioned earlier, the team's kind of traded vehicles
- 5:57Speaker 1: in the fourth. It was low key a really good
- 5:59Speaker 1: football game. Cardinals and the Vikings. Matt Prador hits. The
- 6:02Speaker 1: twenty seven yard field goal given Arizona the thirty four
- 6:05Speaker 1: to thirty three lead with four twenty five left. The
- 6:07Speaker 1: Vikings drove all the way down the field and as
- 6:09Speaker 1: you heard earlier, Joe system is that thirty seven yard
- 6:11Speaker 1: field goal. So it was a heartbreaker for the Vikings.
- 6:15Speaker 1: But that being said, they're gonna be jacked up, fired up,
- 6:17Speaker 1: Brady to go because no one wants to start the
- 6:19Speaker 1: season owing three. Despite a seventeen game season heart break,
- 6:22Speaker 1: hotel two weeks in a row for the Minnesota Vikings.
- 6:26Speaker 1: I also want to point out Kirk Cousins has not
- 6:27Speaker 1: thrown an interception this year. NaSTA Choo and the Hawks
- 6:30Speaker 1: have not recorded an interception on defense this year. Let's
- 6:34Speaker 1: switch it up, all right, man, Let's look at this
- 6:36Speaker 1: head to head comparison. Head to head, man, the Seahawks
- 6:40Speaker 1: one and one, Vikings zone and two. And if you
- 6:42Speaker 1: look at this, bumba, I'm gonna start on defense. It
- 6:45Speaker 1: took a hit last week. Yeah. Again, it's hard to
- 6:48Speaker 1: look they head to head in depth because we're only
- 6:50Speaker 1: two weeks in the season, but the Seahawks fell to
- 6:52Speaker 1: thirtieth in total defense, given up four hundred thirty four
- 6:55Speaker 1: yards a game. A lot of that was because of
- 6:56Speaker 1: what happened last weekend Rust defense fell the thirty first,
- 6:59Speaker 1: given up one hundred and sixty two on the ground,
- 7:01Speaker 1: and pass defense fell the twenty second with two hundred
- 7:04Speaker 1: and seventy one yards given up per game. Again, if
- 7:06Speaker 1: you give up five hundred plus yards to a team,
- 7:08Speaker 1: your numbers are gonna take a hit, especially with a
- 7:10Speaker 1: small sample size. The other side of the ball, the
- 7:12Speaker 1: Vikings also haven't played that great defensively in terms of stats.
- 7:17Speaker 1: They're giving up four hundred and twenty yards of total
- 7:19Speaker 1: offense that's twenty eighth in the league. Rush defense are
- 7:22Speaker 1: given up one hundred and twenty six yards on the ground,
- 7:23Speaker 1: tied for twenty first, and past defense are given up
- 7:26Speaker 1: two hundred and ninety four yards a game, tied for
- 7:29Speaker 1: excuse me, twenty sixth in the league. So last week
- 7:32Speaker 1: did not help their stat book as well, so it'll
- 7:34Speaker 1: be interesting to see how these defenses bounced back two
- 7:36Speaker 1: weeks in. Both of these defenses are in the bottom
- 7:38Speaker 1: third of the league when it comes to these stats.
- 7:41Speaker 1: Now where they excel a bit is on the offensive side.
- 7:43Speaker 1: Total offense ranked four the Seahawks, they're eleventh. Now I
- 7:46Speaker 1: think they're better than eleventh, is just you know, things happen,
- 7:50Speaker 1: and the Vikings are six. When it comes to rush offense,
- 7:52Speaker 1: the Seahawks are nineteen, the Vikings are eleven. Pass offense,
- 7:56Speaker 1: the Seahawks are tenth and the Vikings are eight. Pretty even.
- 7:59Speaker 1: It looks like these teams are evenly matched. Right. They're
- 8:02Speaker 1: both tours about them on defense, both around the middle
- 8:05Speaker 1: to the top of the pact. On offense, another thing
- 8:07Speaker 1: they have in common penalty woes. Okay, you have to
- 8:11Speaker 1: get rid of these penalties. Last week, the Seahawks had
- 8:13Speaker 1: ten penalties for one hundred yards. For the season, they
- 8:16Speaker 1: have seventeen penalties four hundred and fifty three. Right behind them,
- 8:19Speaker 1: the Vikings have fifteen penalties for one hundred and thirty two.
- 8:22Speaker 1: So both coaches are going into this week and they're saying,
- 8:24Speaker 1: let's clean this stuff up. Yeah. I mean, that's one
- 8:27Speaker 1: thing that you talk to any coach, especially Pete Carroll.
- 8:29Speaker 1: You cannot be penalized. He spoke of that at length
- 8:32Speaker 1: this week and after the game, that we just can't
- 8:34Speaker 1: do that. Especially those are penalties a lot of which
- 8:37Speaker 1: happen that can be avoided, you know, lay hits on
- 8:40Speaker 1: the quarterback, the taunting one. We've talked about that we're
- 8:42Speaker 1: not gonna get it at. That's off the table. There's
- 8:44Speaker 1: other penalties that can easily be stopped. I think both
- 8:46Speaker 1: coaches feel the same way, and that has to get
- 8:48Speaker 1: cleaned up as we go into this week. All right,
- 8:50Speaker 1: let's look into the history. Know your history, no your history?
- 8:55Speaker 1: All right? The Seahawks lead the all time series twelve
- 8:58Speaker 1: to five, or the Minnesota Vikings and the last meeting,
- 9:01Speaker 1: bump Man, this wasn't This was a crazy game at
- 9:04Speaker 1: Loomanfield last year. Unfortunately there's no fans there to experience
- 9:08Speaker 1: this crazy comfort behind victory. Last season, the Seahawks beat
- 9:11Speaker 1: the Vikings twenty seven to twenty six. The Seahawks have
- 9:13Speaker 1: won the last six matchups against the Vikings. It feels
- 9:17Speaker 1: like we play them every year. We play them the
- 9:19Speaker 1: last three. But in that last meeting, the Seahawks couldn't
- 9:22Speaker 1: get much going in the first half, trailing thirteen to nothing.
- 9:25Speaker 1: The Vikings stormed back, scoring three straight touchdowns to take
- 9:28Speaker 1: a twenty one thirteen lead, or the Seahawks did. Then
- 9:31Speaker 1: the Vikings answer were two more scores of their own,
- 9:33Speaker 1: but got stopped on a big two point conversion attempt
- 9:36Speaker 1: and then bump. If you remember this last final drive,
- 9:38Speaker 1: you know I'll remember bro the Vikings kickoff to the Seahawks.
- 9:42Speaker 1: Seahawks were trailing twenty six to twenty one with one
- 9:44Speaker 1: fifty seven on the clock, with the ball on their
- 9:47Speaker 1: own six yard line. Somehow Russell Wilson, DK Tyler they
- 9:51Speaker 1: get things going. The Seahawks were up against a fourth
- 9:54Speaker 1: in ten Russell throws up a prayer DK Metcalf on
- 9:58Speaker 1: the sideline for thirty nine yards. Seahawks continue to drive
- 10:01Speaker 1: to have all the way down to the Viking six
- 10:03Speaker 1: yard line, went three straight incompletions, but faced this fourth
- 10:08Speaker 1: and goal with fifteen seconds remaining. Russell lookout, He's gonna
- 10:11Speaker 1: fire inside, preaching up, make you a catch? Does he
- 10:14Speaker 1: hang on? He does? Kids a touchdown. It's a touchdown Seahawks.
- 10:20Speaker 1: And it's Metcalf who reaches up and makes the catch,
- 10:24Speaker 1: crossing the field, making the catch in the middle of
- 10:26Speaker 1: the Enzo and Russell finds him and throws the dark
- 10:30Speaker 1: and we all waited to see who it was. David
- 10:32Speaker 1: and made the catch because it could have been anybody.
- 10:35Speaker 1: But it was Medcalf going to the ground, perfect passed
- 10:39Speaker 1: by Russ and absolutely no doubt about it. Russell Wilson
- 10:44Speaker 1: comes back for his thirty fourth career fourth quarter or
- 10:48Speaker 1: overtime comeback and Seattle now Leeds twenty seven, twenty six.
- 10:53Speaker 1: That game was unreal. Bump. What do you remember about that? Man?
- 10:56Speaker 1: I remember one. We were some of the lucky few
- 10:58Speaker 1: who were in the stadium in the suite. We had
- 11:00Speaker 1: a perfect view of that last drive. They were going
- 11:02Speaker 1: towards the north end zone. We were in the south
- 11:04Speaker 1: end zone. We saw it all go down. Yeah, DK
- 11:07Speaker 1: macal come up with two crucial plays on fourth down,
- 11:09Speaker 1: and I remember thinking DK's here. Now he has a ride.
- 11:13Speaker 1: It's raining, it's wet out there. He's still making these
- 11:15Speaker 1: tough passes and you know, getting to those four downs
- 11:18Speaker 1: with stressful. But Russell did what Russell usually does, leads
- 11:21Speaker 1: him down the field for a game with a touchdown.
- 11:23Speaker 1: Like Steve Rabel said, that was his thirty fourth time
- 11:26Speaker 1: doing it. I hope it doesn't come to that this week. Nope.
- 11:29Speaker 1: I would like to play how the Seahawks playing in
- 11:31Speaker 1: Week one. Comfortable, not getting your heart rate up, not pacing,
- 11:34Speaker 1: not back and forth. Stay out big, keep winning big.
- 11:36Speaker 1: But the Seahawks will play the Vikings a ton last
- 11:38Speaker 1: couple of years will help the trend continues the Seahawks
- 11:41Speaker 1: way as it's going. But man, the NFC West, boy,
- 11:44Speaker 1: that's a bad division. What's the word? And the Seahawks
- 11:52Speaker 1: where the NFC West champs? Again? What's the word? In
- 11:55Speaker 1: the West? On Hawk talk? What's the word? Seattle's one
- 12:01Speaker 1: and one and they are last in the division right now,
- 12:03Speaker 1: that's how good this division is. The Rams of two
- 12:05Speaker 1: and no, Cardinals two and no. Nine Ers are two
- 12:08Speaker 1: and oh. We've set this a million times in NFCY
- 12:11Speaker 1: West is the best division in football. If the Hawks
- 12:13Speaker 1: were able to beat the Tennessee Titans, say, the whole
- 12:16Speaker 1: division as a whole would have been eight in oh.
- 12:19Speaker 1: Let's focus on some of these teams. Now, the Rams
- 12:21Speaker 1: beat the Colts in a close twenty seven to twenty
- 12:23Speaker 1: four matchup. Now, Carson Wentz went out late in the game.
- 12:27Speaker 1: We got to see a local kid, Lake Stephens stand out,
- 12:29Speaker 1: U dub stand out. Jacob Eaton had a chance off
- 12:32Speaker 1: the bench to be the hero, but he threw an interception.
- 12:34Speaker 1: I saw that interception. It was such a rookie throw.
- 12:37Speaker 1: He tried to throw a corner into a deep cover's look.
- 12:39Speaker 1: That corner dropped right into the zone. Picked it off.
- 12:42Speaker 1: It was easy pick as I believe that was. I
- 12:45Speaker 1: don't know who the corner was. I just know there
- 12:47Speaker 1: was a battery. He looked like a rookie right there. Now.
- 12:50Speaker 1: Matthew Stafford turned in an okay performance nineteen to thirty
- 12:52Speaker 1: twenty seventy eight yards and two touchdowns, one interception. But
- 12:56Speaker 1: my guy Cooper Cup, oh man, Yeah, he's one of
- 12:59Speaker 1: my favorite receivers. Every chance it gets to talk about him,
- 13:01Speaker 1: I'm gonna do it. Nine receptions, one hundred and sixty
- 13:04Speaker 1: three yards, two touchdowns. He's getting better. Cooper Cup is
- 13:08Speaker 1: getting he looks faster. I'm like, where did this speed
- 13:10Speaker 1: come from? What's your offseason workout? Look like? Cooper Cup
- 13:13Speaker 1: and those Rams are looking good right now? Yeah, Cooper
- 13:16Speaker 1: is scary man. They still got those weapons over there now.
- 13:19Speaker 1: It was the Rams obviously win the game. They have
- 13:21Speaker 1: a big stop late. They didn't look as explosive outside
- 13:25Speaker 1: of Cooper Cup as they had done in previous weeks.
- 13:27Speaker 1: I believe Henderson only rushed for like sixty yards Stafford
- 13:30Speaker 1: was you know, I mean it wasn't by no means
- 13:33Speaker 1: was a bad game at all. Two hundred and sevent
- 13:35Speaker 1: eight yards, two touchdowns, win, interception. But there's some chinks
- 13:39Speaker 1: in the armor many they looked. I wouldn't I don't
- 13:41Speaker 1: want to say vulnerable, but it wasn't as good as
- 13:44Speaker 1: they looked in Week one. However, it wins a win.
- 13:46Speaker 1: That's all it counts in the record. Call him. So
- 13:48Speaker 1: the Rams out to a good start now. Also in
- 13:51Speaker 1: the division, the forty nine ers, so they kind of
- 13:54Speaker 1: want an ugly game. But I'm not gonna lie to
- 13:56Speaker 1: seventeen to eleven over the Eagles last Sunday. When you
- 13:59Speaker 1: look at the box score, you can kind of condemned replay.
- 14:01Speaker 1: Nothing really jumps out. Jimmy g twenty two for thirty
- 14:05Speaker 1: one hundred and eighty nine yards, one touchdown, also ran
- 14:08Speaker 1: for touchdown. He's a mobile quarterback. He's running for touchdown. Hey,
- 14:11Speaker 1: he ran for like five first downs, bro, so he
- 14:13Speaker 1: was doing something right. But the main thing to me,
- 14:16Speaker 1: Bump was Trey Lance watched every snap from the sidelines,
- 14:19Speaker 1: So he's surprised by that. I'm not surprised if you're winning,
- 14:22Speaker 1: and Jimmy G's like, look, you got Trey Lance. I'm
- 14:24Speaker 1: forget me. I'm mobile, Okay, I can pick up first
- 14:26Speaker 1: downs too. They're gonna bring on Trey Land slowly now
- 14:28Speaker 1: at this point. Honestly, I thought that we would be
- 14:31Speaker 1: seeing a little bit more Trey Lance. We've seen him
- 14:33Speaker 1: a little bit the first the first week. But if
- 14:35Speaker 1: it ain't broke, don't fix it. Even if it's ugly.
- 14:37Speaker 1: A win is a win. These Niners are two and
- 14:39Speaker 1: oh and Jimmy G's having an okay season, so I
- 14:42Speaker 1: don't I'm not surprised. Yeah, there's no reason to rush
- 14:44Speaker 1: a rookie along in a second week if you're winning ballgames.
- 14:47Speaker 1: And you know, Jimmy G gets a lot of flak.
- 14:49Speaker 1: I know there's a lot of questions about whether or
- 14:51Speaker 1: not he was gonna be replaced even by week three,
- 14:54Speaker 1: or if he was gonna start the year. He's calm, cool, collected.
- 14:57Speaker 1: You know, he's a good looking dude. He's out there,
- 14:59Speaker 1: like I'm confident the starter. Things are going well for them.
- 15:01Speaker 1: They didn't run the ball particularly well. I know George
- 15:03Speaker 1: Kittle talked about last week that they're the best running
- 15:05Speaker 1: team in the National Football League or at least in
- 15:07Speaker 1: the NFC West, So it'll be interesting to see how
- 15:09Speaker 1: they go. But they're really banged up at running back.
- 15:11Speaker 1: They lost a ton of players. It seems like any
- 15:13Speaker 1: running back they plug in there's pretty good and it's
- 15:16Speaker 1: okay anyway, So it'll be interesting to see. We'll get
- 15:18Speaker 1: a chance to catch up with those boys in San
- 15:20Speaker 1: Francisco here pretty soon, Yes we will. We already talked
- 15:23Speaker 1: about the Cardinals. Man, those news look explosive. AJ Green
- 15:25Speaker 1: is great in the red zone. Hoskins is doing this thing.
- 15:29Speaker 1: He Edmunds looks good. Man. Yeah, and they got another guy,
- 15:31Speaker 1: Rondale I believe his name is Rondale Moore. They look good.
- 15:34Speaker 1: I look at his office and I'm like, Arizona ain't
- 15:37Speaker 1: get enough pub man, you gotta be careful. But we're
- 15:40Speaker 1: not talking about Arizona. We're talking about the Vikings. Let's
- 15:43Speaker 1: look at some of these matchups. Man up this man
- 15:53Speaker 1: up on Hawk Talk. As we do every week, we
- 15:56Speaker 1: look at the key matchup the Seahawks will be facing
- 15:58Speaker 1: this Sunday, and you can't look any farther than the
- 16:01Speaker 1: quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings, Kirk Cousins Man and his
- 16:05Speaker 1: career bump. He's just been a lightning rod for criticism
- 16:07Speaker 1: since he's entered the league and became a starter. You know,
- 16:10Speaker 1: he's typically done well in the regular season, but has
- 16:12Speaker 1: a stigma for not doing well in the big game.
- 16:14Speaker 1: You know, I feel like he's kind of changed that
- 16:15Speaker 1: narrative twenty nineteen with a wild card win in the
- 16:19Speaker 1: playoffs over the New Orleans Saints. They didn't make the
- 16:21Speaker 1: playoffs last year. But bump, here's the staff that I
- 16:24Speaker 1: don't want to throw to you. Man, this is crazy.
- 16:27Speaker 1: The longest streak of consecutive games within ninety plus passer
- 16:31Speaker 1: rating in NFL history. Okay, this is I'm gonna name
- 16:34Speaker 1: read off a couple of names. Number one Peyton Manning.
- 16:38Speaker 1: He had twenty three of those games from twenty twelve
- 16:40Speaker 1: two thirteen. That's very expected. Everyone knows that number three
- 16:44Speaker 1: is Peyton Manning at fifteen to two thousand and four,
- 16:46Speaker 1: and tied for number three Steve Young at fifteen in
- 16:49Speaker 1: nineteen ninety four, nineteen ninty five. But you know who's
- 16:51Speaker 1: number two in that list? Who's that Kirk Cousins. From
- 16:54Speaker 1: last year to right now, he has had sixteen straight
- 16:58Speaker 1: games within ninety plus aascerating So say what you want.
- 17:02Speaker 1: He might not be splashy some other guys. People got
- 17:04Speaker 1: angry when he got paid all that guaranteed money. But
- 17:07Speaker 1: the guy's playing pretty good football. I don't know worse
- 17:10Speaker 1: to say about it. I mean, he's a good football player.
- 17:12Speaker 1: You know what I can say? You like that? Don't
- 17:14Speaker 1: you like that? Kirk Cousins, man, he is like public
- 17:18Speaker 1: Enemy number one. Him and Jimmy, I feel like no
- 17:20Speaker 1: one wants to believe in him, but they just win
- 17:22Speaker 1: ball games. And now you're telling me stats where he's
- 17:24Speaker 1: mentioned with Steve Young and all these other guys. That
- 17:27Speaker 1: is crazy. But you and I have been around long
- 17:29Speaker 1: enough to know that Kurt is going to keep them
- 17:31Speaker 1: in the game. He might not win the game, but
- 17:32Speaker 1: he will keep them in the game. And these receivers
- 17:35Speaker 1: are looking good right now. Jefferson looks good, theling looks good.
- 17:38Speaker 1: You got Osborne who's hit the scene. Now you got
- 17:40Speaker 1: a running back. He's surrounded by some talent. So it
- 17:44Speaker 1: surprises me, but it doesn't surprise me about mister kirk Cousins.
- 17:47Speaker 1: All right, another matchup Dalvin Kugg versus the Seahawks front seven.
- 17:51Speaker 1: We know what this guy can do. In twenty twenty one,
- 17:54Speaker 1: he has forty two carries from one hundred and ninety
- 17:55Speaker 1: two yards and one touchdown. Last week was his bounce
- 17:58Speaker 1: back game, twenty two carries, one hundred and thirty one yards.
- 18:01Speaker 1: I just like this running scheme the Big Ray was here.
- 18:03Speaker 1: I mean, he would have a lot of great things
- 18:05Speaker 1: to say about it. They play power football. They're gonna
- 18:07Speaker 1: pull guards, they're gonna lead with fullbacks, They're gonna get
- 18:09Speaker 1: bodies on bodies. So Dalvin Cook can open this thing
- 18:13Speaker 1: up and do his thing. It's gonna take a community,
- 18:16Speaker 1: just like it did last week. If you can, if
- 18:18Speaker 1: you can hone in on what the Hawks did that
- 18:20Speaker 1: first half and bring this to this Vikings game, they
- 18:23Speaker 1: should be okay. But if they don't rally to the football,
- 18:25Speaker 1: and if they don't tackle, if they do not read
- 18:28Speaker 1: their keys, it could be a long day. And the
- 18:30Speaker 1: thing about that bumps that stuff happens so quick. You
- 18:33Speaker 1: can play a great half of football, like we saw
- 18:34Speaker 1: the Seahawks play in the front seven against the run
- 18:36Speaker 1: against the Titans. But one little breakdown here, one little
- 18:40Speaker 1: breakdown here, Now they get confidence now they start doing
- 18:42Speaker 1: stuff here, here's re screwed up. We're gonna come back
- 18:44Speaker 1: with this. We'renna hit you with the counter. We're gonna
- 18:45Speaker 1: hit you with this. So they need to stay disciplined.
- 18:48Speaker 1: And it was talked about a lot, you know, between
- 18:49Speaker 1: whether it's Pete, Where's Bobby Wagner, whether there's Jamal Adams
- 18:52Speaker 1: when they spoke after the game. It's about gap integrity.
- 18:55Speaker 1: If your job is a B gap or the A gap,
- 18:57Speaker 1: you need to have that gap. If your job on
- 18:59Speaker 1: the play is force or secondary force, you have to
- 19:02Speaker 1: do that. I mean, and that's how things break down
- 19:04Speaker 1: because it's team defensing. We have basic good running back
- 19:07Speaker 1: like Dalvin Cook. If ten guys do their job but
- 19:10Speaker 1: one doesn't, that's when you get in trouble. So the
- 19:12Speaker 1: Seahawks have a lot to work on because it's going
- 19:14Speaker 1: to be a tough opponent. We know they can do
- 19:16Speaker 1: it though. That's a that's a great thing. Bobby Wagner
- 19:18Speaker 1: is your leader on defense. From all Adams Squandrey digs,
- 19:21Speaker 1: there's guys that can get that done. So I'm excited
- 19:23Speaker 1: to see what this matchup books like against Dalvin Cook.
- 19:26Speaker 1: All Right, next matchup, We're gonna go DJ Read and
- 19:28Speaker 1: Trey Flowers versus Justin Jefferson, Adam Theeland and kJ Osborn.
- 19:34Speaker 1: Now theeling Justin Jefferson is rubbing off on Theeeling. I
- 19:37Speaker 1: know Theeland is the guy who's been there for a while,
- 19:40Speaker 1: But I saw a Theling score a touchdown and do
- 19:41Speaker 1: the dance. Though, hey, Jefferson does. He's got his chain out.
- 19:45Speaker 1: They I guarantee you they believe in hype each other
- 19:47Speaker 1: up like we are one of the best duels in
- 19:49Speaker 1: the league. And I am mad Adam for thinking that.
- 19:51Speaker 1: All right, Justin Jefferson had a huge rookie campaign with
- 19:53Speaker 1: fourteen hundred yards and seven touchdowns eighty eight receptions. So
- 19:56Speaker 1: far this year he has eleven receptions for one hundred
- 20:00Speaker 1: six yards and one touchdown. Feeling is doing his thing.
- 20:03Speaker 1: He is so good in the red zone. Man, he
- 20:05Speaker 1: goes and gets that football. He works the back of
- 20:07Speaker 1: the end zone. This year he has fifteen receptions one
- 20:10Speaker 1: hundred and thirty one yards three touchdowns. But kJ Osborne,
- 20:14Speaker 1: the second year player, has emerged in twenty twenty one.
- 20:17Speaker 1: He leads the Vikings in receiving with twelve receptions one
- 20:20Speaker 1: hundred seventy six yards one big sixty four yard touchdown
- 20:23Speaker 1: last week. Now he had to make the play, but
- 20:26Speaker 1: that was just a bust on the defense. That corner
- 20:28Speaker 1: thought he had safety help over the top. It looked
- 20:30Speaker 1: like a Cover two look. Safety was not over the top.
- 20:33Speaker 1: He stayed in the scene against Justin Jefferson. But Osborne
- 20:36Speaker 1: did a good job of getting outside of that corner,
- 20:38Speaker 1: getting down the sideline and catching the easy football, good
- 20:41Speaker 1: pass from Kirk Cousins. Yeah, these guys, I mean the
- 20:45Speaker 1: Seahawks are gonna start getting into some of these spans
- 20:47Speaker 1: where they just have good receiver combo after good receiver combo.
- 20:50Speaker 1: He had a tough one last week. With Julio Jones
- 20:52Speaker 1: and A. J. Brown. We know what they can do.
- 20:54Speaker 1: This trio is something special. Justin Jefferson is gonna be
- 20:57Speaker 1: here to stay for a long time. He's eventually gonna
- 20:59Speaker 1: be any all Pro type player. So DJ Read and
- 21:02Speaker 1: Trey Flowers, you know, in evaluating them and how they've played,
- 21:05Speaker 1: they've played solid. I mean they haven't. They haven't done
- 21:08Speaker 1: much to value, but they made some plays. They broke
- 21:10Speaker 1: out some plays in the end zone. The one glaring
- 21:12Speaker 1: thing that came out of last week is when Flowers
- 21:14Speaker 1: got beat on that fit fifty one yard go ball.
- 21:17Speaker 1: And the thing about Flowers, he's always in position. He's
- 21:19Speaker 1: just got to make the play that that's the difference.
- 21:21Speaker 1: And it's gonna be a tough, tough matchup this week.
- 21:24Speaker 1: But I got faith in those guys. It's just about
- 21:27Speaker 1: making the plays when they're there to be made. They'll
- 21:28Speaker 1: need some help underneath and underneath coverage, because sometimes when
- 21:32Speaker 1: you see a ball get completed on a corner, doesn't
- 21:34Speaker 1: mean it was his fault. It might be that they're
- 21:36Speaker 1: playing cover three and they are giving that up. That's
- 21:39Speaker 1: just the scheme of the defense I was called in
- 21:40Speaker 1: that play. Sometimes we're playing a little bit more aggressive
- 21:43Speaker 1: bump and runs, so it's hard to differentiate every play
- 21:45Speaker 1: if it was so and so's fault. But they're playing
- 21:47Speaker 1: okay football. I just want to see them take the
- 21:49Speaker 1: next step this weekend and take the football away. I
- 21:51Speaker 1: want I want you guys to look at now that
- 21:53Speaker 1: the vikings are gonna do some motion before the snap.
- 21:56Speaker 1: They're gonna move the tightening have some unbalanced look. If
- 21:59Speaker 1: you don't see anybody running with that tight end, that
- 22:01Speaker 1: means it is a zone. So in zone, your job
- 22:04Speaker 1: is to keep everything in front of you. So if
- 22:06Speaker 1: you see a zone look and footballs are caught in
- 22:08Speaker 1: front of these guys, that's a plus. You want to
- 22:10Speaker 1: keep things in front of you. Absolutely, let's get in
- 22:12Speaker 1: the next matchup Chris Carsonding, it's this Vikings front seven Carson.
- 22:16Speaker 1: He did have two touchdowns last week, but only had
- 22:18Speaker 1: thirty one yards on thirteen carries. This is huge for me.
- 22:22Speaker 1: I think this is gonna be one of the biggest
- 22:23Speaker 1: keys of the game. They need to get this guy
- 22:24Speaker 1: going early. Thirteen carries is not enough in my opinion.
- 22:28Speaker 1: And it's about establishing the run early. And when you
- 22:31Speaker 1: here established a run, that doesn't mean given the ball
- 22:33Speaker 1: thirty seven times and run down first and second down
- 22:36Speaker 1: every time. It's getting into a flow and going into
- 22:39Speaker 1: it and starting early. Because what happens when you go
- 22:44Speaker 1: to it early you start to wearing these guys down,
- 22:46Speaker 1: You start to set stuff up. You're like, hey, we've
- 22:48Speaker 1: been showing this look all time. Let's do a design cutback,
- 22:51Speaker 1: let's get into this, let's toss, let's do this action.
- 22:53Speaker 1: So if you don't establish a run, when you need
- 22:56Speaker 1: to sustain a drive, in the fourth quarter. Maybe it's
- 22:58Speaker 1: a four minute drill and you haven't been able to
- 23:00Speaker 1: run the football. It's really hard to sustain drives because
- 23:03Speaker 1: the defense is gonna make you one dimensional. So it's
- 23:05Speaker 1: really important this week to get Chris Carson going bum
- 23:08Speaker 1: You said something important, wear them down, and you got
- 23:11Speaker 1: to have a certain back to wear. Defense is down,
- 23:13Speaker 1: a back that's gonna fall forward, that's gonna meet force
- 23:16Speaker 1: food force. Guess what thirty two does that He will
- 23:19Speaker 1: wear you down. He will lower that shoulder. Patty's also
- 23:21Speaker 1: good out the backfield. I think this week the focus
- 23:23Speaker 1: has to be, Okay, we gotta get Chris Carson the ball.
- 23:26Speaker 1: He needs to touch it at least twenty times in
- 23:28Speaker 1: the run game. Another five or six would dump offs
- 23:30Speaker 1: and check downs. Gotta get this man. Be football. The
- 23:33Speaker 1: Vikings defense is twenty first in the league against the run.
- 23:36Speaker 1: All right, two games are allowing one hundred twenty six
- 23:38Speaker 1: yards per game. That is encouraging Chris Carson. Let's get
- 23:41Speaker 1: him going, all right. Another matchup Seahawks offense as a whole,
- 23:45Speaker 1: they need to be more consistent, all right. They came
- 23:47Speaker 1: out hot, sputtered in the second half, only had one
- 23:50Speaker 1: touchdown in the second half. They have to be able
- 23:52Speaker 1: to sustain drives when the game this on the line.
- 23:55Speaker 1: Every scoring drive was a long play sixty something yard touchdown,
- 24:00Speaker 1: three play drive, four play drive. Let's put together some
- 24:02Speaker 1: ten play drives. Absolutely. That's the other thing too, Like
- 24:05Speaker 1: even Alton Robinson caused a fumble and Chris Carson punched
- 24:08Speaker 1: it in the big explosive plays. Don't get me wrong.
- 24:11Speaker 1: Don't hear us say that and be like, oh, you
- 24:13Speaker 1: guys didn't want them to score sixty eight your touchdowns,
- 24:16Speaker 1: but we also want to see drives to replace some
- 24:18Speaker 1: of those three and outs. Even if you don't score,
- 24:21Speaker 1: go forty or fifty yards, flip the field position, give
- 24:24Speaker 1: your defense a break, and just sustain drives like we
- 24:26Speaker 1: know they're capable of. They do so much good motion
- 24:28Speaker 1: stuff that we've seen from them. We saw in week one,
- 24:31Speaker 1: So you just need to dictate to those that vikings
- 24:34Speaker 1: defense and the other thing, man, they just have to
- 24:36Speaker 1: be better on third down. Four of twelve is not
- 24:38Speaker 1: really what we want to see. So I'm looking forward
- 24:41Speaker 1: to that. Better on third down. Sustain These drives wear
- 24:45Speaker 1: these dudes out all right, and they're not bad on offense. Right,
- 24:48Speaker 1: they're Tier eight scoring twenty nine points per game, but
- 24:51Speaker 1: they got to be where Daniel Hunter last week excuse me,
- 24:54Speaker 1: Daniel Hunter. Yeah, last week had against Arizona, had seven pressures,
- 24:57Speaker 1: four hurries, three sacks, and seven even tackles. Now, guys
- 25:02Speaker 1: are going to make plays. Of course, this is the NFL.
- 25:05Speaker 1: But you can't have a guy to dominate a ball game.
- 25:07Speaker 1: That's what you don't want to have. So see offense,
- 25:10Speaker 1: Let's get back to doing what you did first week.
- 25:12Speaker 1: In the first half a week two, what's the path
- 25:15Speaker 1: to victory? At the forty five waits for the snaff,
- 25:19Speaker 1: Michael Vickton puts it down. That kick is away, and
- 25:22Speaker 1: that kick is gone. It's gone. It's a path to victory.
- 25:28Speaker 1: On Hawk Talk half the victory, How will these Seahawks
- 25:32Speaker 1: get back in the wind column? I'll tell you exactly
- 25:34Speaker 1: how they're gonna get back in the wind column. Stop
- 25:36Speaker 1: the run and play discipline. Pete Carroll. Defenses are always
- 25:40Speaker 1: good at stopping the run. That's what they do. They
- 25:42Speaker 1: need to flesh the second half from last week, get
- 25:45Speaker 1: back after during practice this week and stop a talented
- 25:47Speaker 1: back like Dalvin Cook. Bump you alluded to all the
- 25:50Speaker 1: things that they want to do, pulling guards, leading with
- 25:52Speaker 1: full backs, gaps, all that stuff. The Seahawks, they know
- 25:55Speaker 1: what they need to do. They got some dogs in there. Okay,
- 25:57Speaker 1: whether it's you got Bobby Wagner, obviously you got Jordan
- 26:01Speaker 1: Brooks in upfront, Al Woods, poona Ford. The guys that
- 26:04Speaker 1: are making plays, they just need to be consistent, stay
- 26:06Speaker 1: disciplined in their gap, their run fits. And that includes
- 26:09Speaker 1: when Jamal Adams comes down, when we're a nickel, all
- 26:11Speaker 1: that stuff. Stay this one. Stop the run, and now
- 26:14Speaker 1: I'll set them up for success. Stop the run and
- 26:16Speaker 1: get after this quarterback. After a great week one, the
- 26:19Speaker 1: pass rush was not consistent enough. Now you have to
- 26:22Speaker 1: hit Kirk Cousins. You have to force him to make
- 26:24Speaker 1: bad decisions. So far he hasn't made any bad decisions.
- 26:27Speaker 1: He has no turnovers. This week. You have to force
- 26:30Speaker 1: him into interceptions. Take the ball away. You want to
- 26:33Speaker 1: help your offense out like you did last week. You
- 26:35Speaker 1: call is to force fumble, put the offense within the
- 26:37Speaker 1: five bull and Chris Carson punches it in. Short fields
- 26:40Speaker 1: are good for the offense. Long fields are good for
- 26:43Speaker 1: the defense. Absolutely, And let's get into rhythm offensively. We
- 26:46Speaker 1: alluded to it just a second ago. The big us
- 26:49Speaker 1: most flash plays we love and those are great and
- 26:51Speaker 1: want those to continue to happen, but we need to
- 26:54Speaker 1: be able to sustain where the Seahawks need to be
- 26:55Speaker 1: able to stay in the long drives and establish that
- 26:57Speaker 1: run with Chris Carson. That's a good way to do
- 26:59Speaker 1: that and match. They need to get into rhythm. When
- 27:02Speaker 1: they are are in a rhythm, this offense is scary
- 27:05Speaker 1: good and you gotta get DK involved. Ka had eleven
- 27:07Speaker 1: targets last week, but none really down the field. They
- 27:10Speaker 1: kept him underneath the coverage of lots of slants, hitches
- 27:12Speaker 1: or what not going across the field in shallows. It's
- 27:14Speaker 1: time for DK to have a breakout game now. The
- 27:16Speaker 1: focus of the Minnesota defense is going to be unlocket.
- 27:20Speaker 1: They're not gonna ignore number four team, but it's time
- 27:23Speaker 1: to see number four team with that blue hair, with
- 27:25Speaker 1: that nose ring and the air rings. Let him do
- 27:28Speaker 1: what he does and bounce back. This week, it's time
- 27:30Speaker 1: to go one and on the week you win this game,
- 27:33Speaker 1: you're two on one. You're back on track. Let's get
- 27:35Speaker 1: it done. Absolutely looking forward to a great game. This
- 27:39Speaker 1: Sunday reminder, guys, subscribe to the Seahawks Podcast radio Network.
