• 2:52
  Speaker 3: Good morning.
• 2:53
Speaker 5: Good morning, Thank you for being here.
• 2:55
Speaker 3: First of all, I got to ask you, how was
• 2:58
Speaker 3: Texas and Tales last week?
• 3:00
Speaker 6: Tuxes and Tails despite the weather was so fun and
• 3:04
Speaker 6: so successful. I think the weather kind of contributed to
• 3:07
Speaker 6: the time people had because we were all crowded inside
• 3:10
Speaker 6: of the Ruffner hiding out from the rain. So it
• 3:13
Speaker 6: was very fun, very successful, and we all had a.
• 3:16
Speaker 3: Great night and I saw a lot of pictures. I
• 3:18
Speaker 3: was unable to attend this year, but I did see
• 3:19
Speaker 3: a whole lot of pictures online and I could tell
• 3:21
Speaker 3: you it looked like people were having a fantastic time
• 3:25
Speaker 3: fundraiser there for you folks. And also one of the
• 3:28
Speaker 3: very very nice venues here in the Charleston area.
• 3:31
Speaker 6: Absolutely yet this was our first year at the Rouughner
• 3:34
Speaker 6: and it was absolute perfection. It was such a beautiful
• 3:38
Speaker 6: venue at that And also I want to mention at
• 3:41
Speaker 6: Tuxas and tail someone came up to me and said,
• 3:43
Speaker 6: I listened to you on the radio every Friday, so we.
• 3:48
Speaker 3: Have a listener. Is that what you're saying. There's someone
• 3:50
  Speaker 3: listening to this.
• 3:51
Speaker 6: Yeah, so Carol, if you're listening, hello.
• 3:53
Speaker 3: Well, had I known that this people were actually listening,
• 3:56
Speaker 3: I probably would have worn a better shirt. So let's
• 4:01
Speaker 3: talk about our ad me please Pet of the week.
• 4:03
Speaker 3: As always, we have our pets picture posted over on
• 4:07
Speaker 3: my social media. It's Dave Allen Radio. It's also on
• 4:09
Speaker 3: the WCCHS Network Facebook page and it is on my
• 4:13
Speaker 3: x page formerly Twitter, and that is at dave A Sevadi.
• 4:17
Speaker 3: Fergie is our dog this week, Fergie's got an interesting
• 4:20
Speaker 3: story and she gotta let you take it from there.
• 4:24
Speaker 6: I'm so excited to talk about Fergie. She is my
• 4:26
Speaker 6: favorite shelter pet over which is a huge title. But
• 4:30
Speaker 6: Bergie came to us as astray about a year ago,
• 4:34
Speaker 6: and she is a prefers people over pets kind of dog,
• 4:37
Speaker 6: So it took her a little longer to fignd a
• 4:39
Speaker 6: home and she finally was adopted and then she gave
• 4:43
Speaker 6: her adopt a health scare. Her adopt unfortunately could not
• 4:48
Speaker 6: afford the type of care that was needed and fell
• 4:52
Speaker 6: on some hard times herself and just wasn't in the
• 4:54
Speaker 6: position to have a dog anymore, which is, you know,
• 4:57
Speaker 6: totally understandable. So we took for thank you back. We
• 5:00
Speaker 6: got her treated. We are thinking she has a form
• 5:04
Speaker 6: of leukemia. So while her time here is probably not
• 5:07
Speaker 6: going to be that long, she deserves the best years
• 5:10
Speaker 6: that she can in her time that we have with her.
• 5:14
Speaker 6: Uh But anyway, she got a blood transfusion from a
• 5:16
Speaker 6: donor dog in our shelter named Bear. And now she
• 5:20
Speaker 6: is feeling much better. She's back to her normal fergie self,
• 5:23
Speaker 6: wanting to play with toys, running around, and she also
• 5:26
Speaker 6: grunts and groans a lot. She's back to normal now.
• 5:33
Speaker 6: I'm so thankful she's feeling better. So you should really
• 5:38
Speaker 6: consider Fergie if you have kids and no other pets.
• 5:41
Speaker 6: She is just truly one of the best dogs.
• 5:42
Speaker 3: I've ever met, do you know? I have to say?
• 5:44
Speaker 3: And you told me that when you gave me the
• 5:46
Speaker 3: information about Fergie that she had to have a blood transfusion,
• 5:49
Speaker 3: and I didn't know why. I guess my mind just
• 5:53
Speaker 3: wasn't wrapping itself around the fact that dogs and other
• 5:57
Speaker 3: animals can can do what humans can do as far
• 6:00
Speaker 3: as they go as far as giving giving blood and
• 6:02
Speaker 3: things like that. It's something I never really thought of.
• 6:04
Speaker 6: Absolutely they can. And there were a lot of questions
• 6:08
Speaker 6: last week, like do dogs have different blood types like people?
• 6:11
Speaker 6: They do, and it's pretty similar, so you can only
• 6:14
Speaker 6: give one particular blood type to you know this other
• 6:18
Speaker 6: particular blood type kind of similar in humans, except dogs
• 6:21
Speaker 6: have many more blood types than we do.
• 6:24
Speaker 3: See, this has been a learning experience and she because
• 6:26
Speaker 3: I had no I had no idea that they that
• 6:29
Speaker 3: they were as complex as we. I mean, they're you know,
• 6:32
Speaker 3: I was gonna say dogs are humans, but I was
• 6:34
Speaker 3: going to say, is that humans are animals. Basically we
• 6:36
Speaker 3: have a lot in common. We have a lot more
• 6:37
Speaker 3: in common than what than what we think. So Fergie
• 6:40
Speaker 3: is doing okay now, but I do think we need
• 6:42
Speaker 3: to throw it out there that she's probably not going
• 6:47
Speaker 3: to have long, as you said, but who knows. I
• 6:49
Speaker 3: mean we've seen you know, in humans too. You see
• 6:51
Speaker 3: people he's got six months. Well no, they live, you know,
• 6:54
Speaker 3: another twenty years. You just never know, never know what
• 6:58
Speaker 3: the heavens have in mind.
• 7:00
Speaker 6: Absolutely, it's all up to fate, because like I said,
• 7:04
Speaker 6: Fergie's probably my favorite dog that we've ever had in
• 7:06
Speaker 6: the shelter. So I had my little crying session about like, oh,
• 7:10
Speaker 6: you know, she's probably not gotlong. She's probably not you know,
• 7:13
Speaker 6: this blood transfusion may or may not work, and despite
• 7:17
Speaker 6: all the odds of that possibly being a solution, she
• 7:21
Speaker 6: has done a full one to eighty and is back
• 7:22
Speaker 6: to her normal self. So if you just leave it
• 7:24
Speaker 6: up to fate and put.
• 7:26
Speaker 3: Your faith in that, so well, Fergie's a beautiful dog.
• 7:29
Speaker 3: What kind of dog is Fergy?
• 7:31
Speaker 6: So we aren't one hundred percent sure. My guess is
• 7:34
Speaker 6: probably like an American bulldog, maybe like Pity mix. She's
• 7:38
Speaker 6: very stout and strong, so she's I would say, in
• 7:44
Speaker 6: the Bully family for sure.
• 7:46
Speaker 3: I had a text here for you, Angie that says,
• 7:47
Speaker 3: will you have some animals at the V one hundred
• 7:50
Speaker 3: and or East End yard sales tomorrow? And if so,
• 7:53
Speaker 3: will you be able to take some donations to take
• 7:54
Speaker 3: back to the shelter with you.
• 7:57
Speaker 6: So I have not been personally invited out to if
• 8:00
Speaker 6: we are welcome to come out and set up, I
• 8:02
  Speaker 6: would be glad.
• 8:02
Speaker 3: Well, how about I just talked to it when Steve
• 8:04
Speaker 3: Bishop and Jenny Murray, they're in the next segment to
• 8:06
Speaker 3: talk about how about I just asked them on the
• 8:08
Speaker 3: air that way. They have a hard time saying no.
• 8:11
Speaker 6: Absolutely, I was gonna say, pressure them into.
• 8:13
Speaker 3: The And I also, I have somebody that's gonna be
• 8:16
Speaker 3: coming on for the East End yard Sale later on
• 8:17
Speaker 3: in the show too, so I'll ask her and if
• 8:19
Speaker 3: they have the space, I'm sure they'll make it available.
• 8:21
Speaker 3: And this same person that texted this texted earlier this
• 8:24
Speaker 3: week and said that with these yard sales going on,
• 8:26
Speaker 3: particularly the V one hundred yard sale, but I think
• 8:28
Speaker 3: the East End yard sale too, they have got they'll
• 8:31
Speaker 3: have some things set up there if people don't want
• 8:33
Speaker 3: to take things back and they'd like to take the donations.
• 8:37
Speaker 3: And someone had suggested that if somebody brings some towels
• 8:40
Speaker 3: in or blankets or something like that, they suggested that
• 8:44
Speaker 3: it might be a very good idea to, you know,
• 8:47
Speaker 3: have those things taken to the shelter later, because you
• 8:50
Speaker 3: guys are always needing things like that.
• 8:52
Speaker 6: Absolutely, we just hit five hundred and two animals in
• 8:55
Speaker 6: our care yesterday, so any type of supplies we are
• 8:59
  Speaker 6: running through quickly.
• 9:00
Speaker 3: Well, going back to the blood situation, someone texted in
• 9:03
Speaker 3: here and said, cats in a vet office are donor.
• 9:06
Speaker 3: Cats usually universal donors. That's about cats.
• 9:09
Speaker 6: So, oh, that is interesting. I didn't know that about cats.
• 9:13
Speaker 3: It's like a regular wild kingdom here on the show today.
• 9:16
Speaker 3: We're an animal planet.
• 9:17
  Speaker 5: Man.
• 9:17
Speaker 3: We're learning all kinds of stuff. All right, let's get
• 9:19
Speaker 3: to the numbers. The numbers, Angie, aren't good as far
• 9:23
Speaker 3: as the overcrowding. You guys, I understand, can only at
• 9:25
Speaker 3: this point take in sick and injured animals.
• 9:27
Speaker 6: Right, correct, We are limited to sick and injured just
• 9:31
Speaker 6: because we only have so much space. And like I said,
• 9:35
Speaker 6: yesterday we hit five hundred and two. Who knows what
• 9:38
Speaker 6: today has in sore for us, So we're going to
• 9:41
Speaker 6: be hitting more than critical level.
• 9:43
Speaker 3: And there was another seizure this week. There were ten
• 9:46
Speaker 3: dogs taken in from a home and big props to
• 9:49
Speaker 3: officials from Charleston, South Charleston and Saint albans Off for
• 9:52
Speaker 3: getting together and helping helping out talk about that.
• 9:55
Speaker 6: Yes, so those ten dogs were, yes, abandoned, but not
• 9:59
Speaker 6: quite I had abandon but that's a lot of stickiness
• 10:03
Speaker 6: that we won't get.
• 10:04
Speaker 3: In, right, Yeah, I got you, I got you. Bottom
• 10:06
Speaker 3: line is there. They're at the shelter now, correct, And
• 10:09
  Speaker 3: they are.
• 10:10
Speaker 6: They're all such sweet dogs. We've got a good group
• 10:13
Speaker 6: of adults, good group of puppies from that one situation.
• 10:16
Speaker 6: And actually yesterday a lot of them had been adopted
• 10:20
Speaker 6: but by the time we left, but there's still a
• 10:22
Speaker 6: couple left. Did you see any Harry Potter names on
• 10:25
Speaker 6: our on our website? That is that group.
• 10:28
Speaker 3: That's what see. This is the first week I think
• 10:30
Speaker 3: in three or four that I haven't had to bring
• 10:31
Speaker 3: the senior producer in here, Ryan to explain to me
• 10:34
Speaker 3: what the name meant. I know what Fergie means. That
• 10:37
Speaker 3: one I got. I know what Fergie. I recognize that name.
• 10:40
Speaker 3: Some of these names you guys come up with her
• 10:42
Speaker 3: way over my head because I'm you know, old, uh
• 10:45
Speaker 3: but uh uh, Angie. I do appreciate you taking time
• 10:49
Speaker 3: out of your schedule to be here.
• 10:49
  Speaker 7: I know.
• 10:50
Speaker 3: Bottom line is, though, you you definitely need some people
• 10:54
Speaker 3: to adopt or foster or something to help alleviate the
• 10:57
  Speaker 3: numbers up there.
• 10:58
Speaker 6: Correct, I say, adopt, foster, volunteer, donate, share.
• 11:02
Speaker 3: Even if you can just get some of the animals
• 11:04
Speaker 3: out of there for you know, a day or two.
• 11:07
Speaker 3: I mean, it gives you folks time to be able
• 11:10
Speaker 3: to maybe clean some cages, to breathe a little bit.
• 11:13
Speaker 3: If somebody could just come and pick up a dog,
• 11:15
Speaker 3: it's going to be a gorgeous weekend here in the
• 11:17
Speaker 3: Kanaw Valley for Mother's Day. Why not get in touch
• 11:20
Speaker 3: with the folks at the shelter. Maybe you can't take
• 11:22
Speaker 3: a dog in at your house completely understand that you're
• 11:24
Speaker 3: all dogged up at this point, or cat it up,
• 11:27
Speaker 3: or you just live in an apartment or something you
• 11:28
Speaker 3: can't have one. It would be a great opportunity, Angie,
• 11:32
Speaker 3: for people on this beautiful weekend to get in touch
• 11:34
Speaker 3: with you and say, hey, i'd i'd like to become
• 11:36
Speaker 3: a foster, if not for this weekend, for the future,
• 11:37
Speaker 3: I'd like to take the dog down to the dog park.
• 11:39
Speaker 3: I'd like to take it, you know, walking on the
• 11:41
Speaker 3: boulevard or something like that.
• 11:44
Speaker 6: Absolutely, we do the Borrow a Buddy program where you
• 11:47
Speaker 6: can literally check a dog out for a couple of
• 11:49
Speaker 6: hours for the day, whatever you'd like. Not only does
• 11:53
Speaker 6: it give our staff kind of time to exhale, but
• 11:55
Speaker 6: it's also a great stress relief for the particular dog
• 11:58
Speaker 6: that you're taking out.
• 11:59
Speaker 3: Some animals just don't do well. And you and I
• 12:01
Speaker 3: have talked about this in the past with with shelter life,
• 12:03
  Speaker 3: and I can imagine, I mean, you know, you're you're
• 12:06
Speaker 3: used to you know, whatever your background was, and all
• 12:09
  Speaker 3: of a sudden you're stuck in a cage and there's
• 12:11
Speaker 3: you know, as you said, how many how many dogs
• 12:13
Speaker 3: do you have now dogs?
• 12:15
Speaker 6: I'd say we're probably in the two hundreds.
• 12:17
Speaker 3: Two hundred and some other dogs and they're yelping and
• 12:19
  Speaker 3: they're barking, and I mean, I can't you have told
• 12:21
Speaker 3: me stories before about some of these animals that have
• 12:24
Speaker 3: an incredible transformation the minute that they they don't even
• 12:28
Speaker 3: have to get to the house, the minute that they
• 12:30
Speaker 3: that they step outside and see sunshine and see grass,
• 12:35
Speaker 3: it's amazing. It's amazing for them.
• 12:37
Speaker 6: Absolutely, if you go to our shelter, you'll see a
• 12:40
Speaker 6: lot of stickers that are like, I'm a different dog
• 12:41
Speaker 6: outside my kennel. I used to get me out, and
• 12:44
Speaker 6: as soon as they get out of the kennel, it's
• 12:46
Speaker 6: completely different dog. They are calm, they're relaxed, they're loose.
• 12:50
Speaker 6: So definitely, getting these dogs out is very important.
• 12:54
Speaker 3: All right, And she is always a pleasure to talk
• 12:58
Speaker 3: to you, and we will talk again next week. Thanks
• 13:00
Speaker 3: a lot, thank you.
• 13:02
Speaker 6: I have a good one, all right.
• 13:03
Speaker 3: Angel Gillawater from the Canal Charleston New Main Association. Fergie
• 13:06
Speaker 3: is our dog this week. Adopted once before, but had
• 13:10
Speaker 3: to be brought back because he was sick and his
• 13:14
Speaker 3: new owners couldn't afford his care. Seems to be doing
• 13:16
Speaker 3: well now, but we're not gonna lie. It seems like
• 13:19
Speaker 3: the dog may have. You know, we don't know how
• 13:21
Speaker 3: much longer the dog has got He's currently not she
• 13:24
Speaker 3: I should say it's not sick now. But if you've
• 13:29
Speaker 3: got this dog absolutely loves to be around people, especially kids.
• 13:34
Speaker 3: So if you want to adopt Fergie, I've got her
• 13:37
Speaker 3: picture posted over Dave Allan Radio on Facebook and at
• 13:40
  Speaker 3: Dave A seventy on x Also, I get Fergie's picture
• 13:43
Speaker 3: posted on the w CHS network Facebook page. Go check
• 13:46
Speaker 3: her out. She's four years old, she's spade, She's up
• 13:48
Speaker 3: to date on all of her shots. Not so good
• 13:51
Speaker 3: with other pets, but she does love people and she
• 13:54
Speaker 3: loves kids. Let's go and let's try to get Fergie home.

• 16:27
Speaker 9: Oh you'll be in there someday, don't worry.
• 16:30
Speaker 3: No, probably not. And I just happened to think that
• 16:33
Speaker 3: I think this is the first time that I have
• 16:35
Speaker 3: ever interviewed you two together.
• 16:37
Speaker 11: Yeah, and this is the first time in the new
• 16:38
Speaker 11: studio for I mean, I've been in here, but not
• 16:40
  Speaker 11: on the radio.
• 16:41
Speaker 3: Yeah, what do you think?
• 16:42
Speaker 9: I love it? I thought the fake brick in here
• 16:45
Speaker 9: was going to look atrocious.
• 16:47
Speaker 3: It's genuine simulated brick.
• 16:49
Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't call it fake.
• 16:50
Speaker 11: That's all right, the genuine thing, the whole thing, the
• 16:53
  Speaker 11: genuine simulated brick.
• 16:55
Speaker 4: If you didn't tell anybody who would know.
• 16:58
Speaker 3: Well, we had an incident a couple of weeks ago,
• 17:00
Speaker 3: oddly enough, when we were interviewing doctor Casey Sachs of
• 17:03
Speaker 3: a Bridge Valley and studio, and she asked if the
• 17:06
Speaker 3: brick were real, and Steve Animal happened to be hanging
• 17:10
Speaker 3: out in the producer's studio, and Steve walked in, licked
• 17:14
Speaker 3: the brick, and then got on a microphone and said,
• 17:16
  Speaker 3: it's not real.
• 17:19
Speaker 9: Like he would know what brick would taste like.
• 17:21
Speaker 3: The man's licked a lot of bricks in his time,
• 17:23
  Speaker 3: that's all.
• 17:23
  Speaker 12: I don't know.
• 17:24
Speaker 9: I'd be proud of that.
• 17:25
Speaker 4: By the way, Jenny sounds like she's been drinking whiskey
• 17:27
Speaker 4: and smoking cigarettes, and when she laughs, she sounds like she's,
• 17:31
Speaker 4: you know, messed up.
• 17:33
  Speaker 9: Yeah I'm not, and I.
• 17:36
Speaker 4: Have the same thing. So when we laugh, if y'all think, God,
• 17:39
Speaker 4: they need to go to the doctor, you're probably right
• 17:41
  Speaker 4: about that.
• 17:42
Speaker 9: Ain't nobody got time for that.
• 17:43
Speaker 3: Is it like like pollen things?
• 17:46
Speaker 4: You know what it is? For me, it's all the
• 17:48
Speaker 4: construction they're doing in the building. Oh okay, so progress
• 17:52
Speaker 4: means Steve has problems. But that's okay. I like the
• 17:56
Speaker 4: progress that they're doing.
• 17:57
Speaker 3: So you guys got a new studio downstairs too, right,
• 18:00
Speaker 3: it's our new temporary That's why we sound like we do, right, Yeah, okay, okay,
• 18:03
Speaker 3: that's why we laugh like this. You know, It's always
• 18:06
Speaker 3: been my contention that sometimes in radio stations. But I mean,
• 18:11
Speaker 3: don't get me wrong. I love what we got here,
• 18:12
Speaker 3: but sometimes when when you start moving things that haven't
• 18:15
Speaker 3: been moved in a number of.
• 18:16
Speaker 4: Years, thirty plus years of dust.
• 18:18
Speaker 3: As they started, we found that.
• 18:19
Speaker 9: Was fifty years old.
• 18:20
Speaker 3: Yeah, guarantee, we found it over here. They broke out
• 18:23
Speaker 3: their production tree. They found two announcers for the nineteen
• 18:25
Speaker 3: seventies that had been in there since.
• 18:27
Speaker 11: Like, we found audio tape that had been spliced stuck
• 18:31
Speaker 11: to the wall when they pulled the cap.
• 18:32
Speaker 4: Yeah, it was funny because we were like scratching our heads,
• 18:35
Speaker 4: going like how did how did that happen? We've been
• 18:38
Speaker 4: working in that room the whole time.
• 18:40
Speaker 3: Except for the revered a few brief times.
• 18:43
Speaker 4: I came over here to work, and somehow I wound
• 18:45
Speaker 4: back up over there at V one hundred.
• 18:47
Speaker 3: By the way, how long have you guys been together
• 18:49
Speaker 3: at V one hundred?
• 18:50
Speaker 4: Since she started working with me in nineteen eighty nine
• 18:53
Speaker 4: doing the news, and then we became a team like
• 18:57
Speaker 4: Steve and Jenny in about nineteen ninety eight, ninety nine,
• 19:02
Speaker 4: somewhere probably about that in the late nineties.
• 19:04
Speaker 3: You think it'll work out.
• 19:06
Speaker 9: It might, it might not.
• 19:08
Speaker 4: Every day she threatens to leave me walk, but you're
• 19:11
  Speaker 4: still here.
• 19:12
Speaker 11: Our big boss, Dale Miller at the time, former big Boss,
• 19:15
  Speaker 11: former Big Boss.
• 19:16
Speaker 9: He said, Jenny, I need you to help Steve. Please.
• 19:20
Speaker 9: You're the only person who can handle him. So that's
• 19:23
  Speaker 9: where I've been.
• 19:24
Speaker 3: And it's maybe made somebody mad in a former life
• 19:28
Speaker 3: or something, and this is yourn but this is your punishment,
• 19:31
Speaker 3: all right. We consider and talk radio stories all day,
• 19:33
Speaker 3: but let's talk yard sales. The V one hundred yard
• 19:37
Speaker 3: Sale either Way presented by Poka Valley, presented by Poco Valley.
• 19:40
Speaker 3: I need another sponsor on the ship, presented by the
• 19:42
Speaker 3: folks of PoCA Valley, So Ladleyfield, Charleston it's tomorrow. Eight
• 19:46
Speaker 3: am is when it begins. Yes, sir, I've been preaching
• 19:49
Speaker 3: all week because Bobby Spry, who was looking at us
• 19:51
Speaker 3: through the glass there, gave me this handy dandy little
• 19:54
Speaker 3: sheet which I think came from you. And one of
• 19:57
Speaker 3: the things is, don't show up if you're vender at
• 19:59
Speaker 3: eight o'clock. Get there before that.
• 20:01
Speaker 4: Oh yeah, because people want to roll in sometimes like
• 20:05
Speaker 4: right then, and that makes it hard to do it
• 20:08
Speaker 4: because you know you need to be set up ready
• 20:11
  Speaker 4: to go.
• 20:11
Speaker 3: Now, the question, the big question is is is it
• 20:14
Speaker 3: too late to be a vendor at this point that
• 20:15
  Speaker 3: you sold out?
• 20:16
  Speaker 4: Yes?
• 20:16
Speaker 3: Okay, I figured were how many vendors you got?
• 20:18
Speaker 4: Approximate probably around fifty. So some people rent more than
• 20:22
Speaker 4: one space, and every space is a parking space.
• 20:24
Speaker 3: And okay at late Lyfield, so all it goes all
• 20:27
Speaker 3: across the board of about the different things they tell
• 20:30
Speaker 3: you on the entry for what they're bringing.
• 20:31
  Speaker 4: Here, I didn't I don't ask people. I did ask yesterday,
• 20:34
Speaker 4: but I don't ask people to what they're going to sell.
• 20:37
Speaker 4: I just tell them what they can't sell, which is
• 20:39
Speaker 4: anything illegal, counterfeit or dangerous as far as threatening life.
• 20:44
Speaker 3: We'll save that for the ninety eight to seven the
• 20:46
  Speaker 3: Mountain yard Sale.
• 20:47
Speaker 4: Yes, right, well, you know it's you just got to
• 20:51
Speaker 4: make sure you mentioned that that certain things are kind
• 20:54
Speaker 4: of not a good idea, right, But generally speaking, over
• 20:59
Speaker 4: the years, we haven't had anything that I went, you
• 21:01
  Speaker 4: can't do that.
• 21:03
Speaker 3: When did it start? When did it be one hundred
• 21:05
  Speaker 3: yards sales stories?
• 21:06
Speaker 4: It started in the probably nineteen ninety three, ninety four,
• 21:11
Speaker 4: something like that. The whole thing started as a joke
• 21:14
Speaker 4: my former wife. We moved, we moved from our house
• 21:17
Speaker 4: in Tayese Valley out to the middle of nowhere in
• 21:19
Speaker 4: the country, and so she she's like, we need I
• 21:22
Speaker 4: want to have a yard sale, but nobody's gonna Nobody
• 21:25
Speaker 4: even knows where we live. They won't find us. And
• 21:27
Speaker 4: we you know. So I was talking about that on
• 21:29
Speaker 4: the radio and Big Joe, who used to work with
• 21:31
Speaker 4: this A lot of people remember him from here and
• 21:34
Speaker 4: and his barre downtown on Capitol Street. Great Big Joe goes, well,
• 21:38
Speaker 4: don't you just have one outside here, you know, at
• 21:40
Speaker 4: the station here. We were in Kanas City at the time,
• 21:43
Speaker 4: and I went, you know, that could work. So, to
• 21:46
Speaker 4: make a long story short, it evolved from that where
• 21:49
Speaker 4: people when they heard us saying we're gonna have this
• 21:51
Speaker 4: yard sale, they went, can we come and bring our
• 21:53
Speaker 4: stuff too? And that's how it all. That's how it
• 21:56
  Speaker 4: all started.
• 21:57
Speaker 3: And for the vendors because and I've talked about this
• 21:59
Speaker 3: throughout the week, two guys, is for the vendors that
• 22:02
Speaker 3: maybe have stuff and they don't want to haul it
• 22:04
Speaker 3: back or whatever. Uh, we got our good friends, some
• 22:07
Speaker 3: of our good friends there that are going to Mountain Mission.
• 22:10
Speaker 3: Mountain Mission will be on.
• 22:11
Speaker 4: The Mountain Mission is coming. I always just ask the people,
• 22:13
  Speaker 4: I say, please don't turn it into like I don't
• 22:16
Speaker 4: want to take this because it's trash. Give them something
• 22:18
Speaker 4: they can use and sell. And right, yeah, they're you know,
• 22:22
Speaker 4: their secondhand store or whatever. I forget what they call it,
• 22:24
Speaker 4: but you know what I mean. So so that's what
• 22:27
Speaker 4: they send a truck over for.
• 22:28
Speaker 3: But Dave Island showing five Indyline brought to you apart
• 22:30
Speaker 3: by Morgan and Morgan, America's largest injury law firm. All right,
• 22:34
Speaker 3: so bring that cash register again, bring that cash See
• 22:38
Speaker 3: how many of them holding up there? I want it's
• 22:41
Speaker 3: a good thing. It's a good problem to have, all right.
• 22:43
Speaker 3: So One. Another thing you can't sell is food because
• 22:46
  Speaker 3: you've got a food vendor.
• 22:46
Speaker 4: Now we have. It's the same food vendor we've had
• 22:49
  Speaker 4: for I don't know how many years, but they're they're
• 22:52
Speaker 4: still around and they're coming back. We haven't done this
• 22:54
Speaker 4: for probably six years.
• 22:55
Speaker 3: All right, So to the because as I said, we're
• 22:57
Speaker 3: sold out as far as vendors go. But what what's
• 22:59
Speaker 3: your advice to the public. What does the public need
• 23:01
Speaker 3: to know about it?
• 23:02
Speaker 4: Come at eight o'clock and be ready to find anything
• 23:04
Speaker 4: and everything. I did ask some people yesterday that are
• 23:07
Speaker 4: selling what they have. And then we've got a lady
• 23:10
Speaker 4: with an old milk can. Somebody has an automatic litter
• 23:13
Speaker 4: box that they would like to take cat not included
• 23:16
Speaker 4: to not take home. Yeah. I don't know what the
• 23:18
Speaker 4: story is there, but I asked him, I said, tell
• 23:20
Speaker 4: me the one thing that you don't want to take
• 23:23
Speaker 4: home tomorrow. What's yours? Jenny?
• 23:24
Speaker 11: I have a turkey fryar brand new, never taken out
• 23:28
  Speaker 11: of the box.
• 23:29
Speaker 4: Lost her mind, bought a turkey fryor And then what
• 23:31
Speaker 4: about what am I doing?
• 23:33
  Speaker 6: Yeah?
• 23:33
Speaker 11: All fry turkey, No, you won't. I spent sixty bucks
• 23:36
Speaker 11: on it, so thirty firm.
• 23:39
Speaker 4: Yeah, she's not willing to negotiate him.
• 23:41
Speaker 9: So don't get back.
• 23:42
Speaker 4: Don't come up and ask for it and say, hey,
• 23:44
Speaker 4: you got the turkey fryer. I'll give you a dime
• 23:46
  Speaker 4: for it. No.
• 23:47
  Speaker 2: Oh.
• 23:47
Speaker 11: I also have some officially licensed Disney Jaba They look
• 23:53
Speaker 11: like like squishmellows, but they're Disney things.
• 23:56
Speaker 4: Officially licensed. Now you can sell like knockoffs. I mean,
• 23:59
Speaker 4: you can't sell counter stuff now to throw you out.
• 24:02
Speaker 9: The real deal. I got a whole bunch of those.
• 24:05
  Speaker 6: You know.
• 24:05
Speaker 3: The the thing about yard sales and flea markets or
• 24:08
Speaker 3: whatever is they used to be a lot bigger deal.
• 24:11
Speaker 3: But because of social media, now every community has got
• 24:13
Speaker 3: their own Oh okay, they got their own page.
• 24:16
Speaker 4: I have furnished my house with Facebook Marketplace furniture. I'm
• 24:19
Speaker 4: not kidding. And it's actually good stuff that I used
• 24:22
Speaker 4: to have when I was married and didn't it didn't
• 24:26
Speaker 4: go with me, so I just thought, and can't find
• 24:28
Speaker 4: anything else I like. I like this, I'm going to
• 24:32
Speaker 4: buy it from other people. So that's what I've been
• 24:34
  Speaker 4: doing well.
• 24:35
Speaker 3: But there's always it's kind of like the argument guys
• 24:37
Speaker 3: when people say, well, shopping malls are dead. And I
• 24:40
Speaker 3: say that's not true because there's always an argument for people.
• 24:43
Speaker 3: There's always going to be people that like to go
• 24:45
Speaker 3: and like to look at stuff, they like to actually
• 24:47
Speaker 3: hold it and they And that's the thing about the
• 24:49
Speaker 3: whole Facebook yard sale. I know people have a lot
• 24:51
Speaker 3: of success. My brother in law does killer things on
• 24:54
  Speaker 3: Facebook yard see.
• 24:55
  Speaker 4: I know that's way successful.
• 24:56
Speaker 3: You know, you know there's something to be said for
• 24:58
Speaker 3: being able to look at the owner and you jumping
• 25:00
Speaker 3: up in saying, Jenny, why didn't you use this turkey?
• 25:03
Speaker 4: You just yeah, you just can't beat the in person
• 25:06
Speaker 4: house down shopping experience. And you know, the cool thing
• 25:11
Speaker 4: tomorrow with ours at Laidley Field And we're on that
• 25:13
Speaker 4: big lot across from Laidley Field at the State of
• 25:15
Speaker 4: West Virginia owns, so we'll have we'll be that'll be
• 25:19
Speaker 4: full of people selling. But it's also in the East
• 25:21
Speaker 4: End of Charleston where they're having the East End yard Sale,
• 25:23
  Speaker 4: right and.
• 25:24
Speaker 3: That's going to be our next segment. We have got
• 25:26
Speaker 3: one of the folks that organized in that are going
• 25:28
Speaker 3: to be on the next segment. And there's always around
• 25:31
Speaker 3: this time of the year, the first or seconds of
• 25:34
Speaker 3: first or second week in May. It's like yard sale time.
• 25:36
Speaker 3: I mean even you know, and where I used to live, man,
• 25:38
Speaker 3: I mean you drive up, you take your life for
• 25:40
Speaker 3: your own hands sometimes driving through these communities with these
• 25:43
Speaker 3: with these yards. So everybody's having yard.
• 25:45
Speaker 4: You're right, Well, I know that someone at Kanos City
• 25:47
Speaker 4: Baptist Church let us know that tomorrow they're having a
• 25:49
Speaker 4: sale starting. I think it was eight o'clock going to two.
• 25:53
Speaker 4: And that used to be the church right behind where
• 25:56
Speaker 4: we had the v one hundred yards that we've been
• 25:58
Speaker 4: like Gypsy's we've been traveling all over.
• 26:00
Speaker 3: Well, this thing goes with the whole spirity yard sales.
• 26:02
Speaker 4: Well it kind of starts out like Okay, this is
• 26:04
Speaker 4: a good idea, and then it gets too big or
• 26:06
Speaker 4: or someone doesn't like us and we have to move.
• 26:08
Speaker 4: And that's I mean, we were at the Teamsters Union
• 26:11
Speaker 4: which is now where the fifth third Bank in Kanos
• 26:13
Speaker 4: City is, but that's the Kanos City Baptist Church behind it,
• 26:16
Speaker 4: I'm pretty sure. And I gotta feel like they probably
• 26:19
Speaker 4: were annoyed when we had our sale because you know,
• 26:22
Speaker 4: we had a lot of people getting in a way.
• 26:24
Speaker 3: Bobby Sprice and a text actually all three of us.
• 26:26
Speaker 3: You just said, don't forget about the porta potties. Yes, yes, yes,
• 26:29
Speaker 3: there's bathrooms available. I guess people need to go to
• 26:31
Speaker 3: the bathroom sometimes you never know, you never.
• 26:34
Speaker 4: Know, or try to accommodate everything.
• 26:36
Speaker 3: Everybody, all types are welcome, all right.
• 26:38
Speaker 9: Before we bring extra bags with you.
• 26:41
Speaker 3: Yeah, and also for vendors. And I know we're sold
• 26:43
Speaker 3: out on vendors, but but just a reminder for vendors,
• 26:46
Speaker 3: they have to bring their own tables.
• 26:48
Speaker 4: Yeah, they know all this, okay, Just making sure those
• 26:50
Speaker 4: people forget Oh no, no, no, no, I tell I
• 26:53
  Speaker 4: make sure.
• 26:54
Speaker 3: I make sure you run this thing like a prison. Can't.
• 26:57
Speaker 4: Well, sometimes you gotta, you just gotta. I mean, I've
• 27:00
Speaker 4: been doing this a long time, Dave. Okay, if I
• 27:02
Speaker 4: don't have a future in radio, which I still questionable,
• 27:06
Speaker 4: I could run a yard sale once in a while.
• 27:08
Speaker 9: Yes, I would agree, not.
• 27:09
Speaker 4: Saying I want to, but I could. It could could
• 27:12
Speaker 4: if I had to, you know what, it could be
• 27:14
Speaker 4: my new new career.
• 27:15
Speaker 3: Before before we let you guys go, I'm going to
• 27:17
Speaker 3: ask each of you, over the years of doing the
• 27:20
Speaker 3: V one hundred yard sale, what's the most bizarre thing.
• 27:25
Speaker 9: Me hiding in the V one hundred van.
• 27:27
Speaker 11: Why because we had we had to have the lot,
• 27:30
Speaker 11: the skinny lot that's on the back side of the Capitol,
• 27:34
Speaker 11: and it was it was it's behind the Division of
• 27:37
  Speaker 11: Highways building.
• 27:37
Speaker 4: When used that for a while.
• 27:39
Speaker 11: It was like hell on Earth trying to get people
• 27:42
Speaker 11: parked in that skinny little lot. And then it started
• 27:45
Speaker 11: to rain buckets, So we have angry people who can't
• 27:49
Speaker 11: get in or out, and then it's raining. And I
• 27:52
Speaker 11: actually told Steve, I said, I'm gonna go hiding a.
• 27:54
Speaker 4: View one under there and leave it to me to
• 27:56
Speaker 4: solve all these issues.
• 27:57
Speaker 3: That's that's why you're Steve Bishop. All right, give us
• 28:01
Speaker 3: the hours again tomorrow eight till noon at Ladley Field
• 28:04
Speaker 3: or the lot right across from Ladyfield.
• 28:06
Speaker 4: Come down Elizabeth Street or Piedmont Road. It's at the
• 28:09
Speaker 4: corner of Elizabeth and Piedmont Road. Everybody knows where it is.
• 28:12
Speaker 4: You'll be able to see if some in the interstate.
• 28:13
Speaker 3: All right, yeah, and uh and and please keep in
• 28:16
Speaker 3: mind that you've got to be off the lot. You
• 28:17
Speaker 3: know you can't. You can't continue salesh that's that. Yeah, noon,
• 28:21
Speaker 3: we we're done. People that will want to linger, but
• 28:24
Speaker 3: we pretty much got to show them more.
• 28:26
Speaker 9: Yeah, and Steve has this giant whip he breaks.
• 28:28
Speaker 4: Do you not have that?
• 28:29
Speaker 3: I figured he would just have like a like a
• 28:31
Speaker 3: fire hose or something.
• 28:32
Speaker 4: A don't give me any ideas, don't give me A one.
• 28:36

• 28:45
  Speaker 9: The big time.
• 28:45
Speaker 3: I do too. You know, I feel like I have
• 28:47
  Speaker 3: to stop it.
• 28:49
Speaker 4: I want to show I want to do this every day. Okay,
• 28:51
Speaker 4: this none of them stopping this to getting up at
• 28:53
Speaker 4: five o'clock to come in at six, I'm not doing
• 28:55
Speaker 4: that at nine o'clock.

Speaker 3: is happening tomorrow. Ashley Grogg James here to talk about

Speaker 3: how you doing. Welcome to the show.
• 34:02
Speaker 12: I'm great. How are you?
• 34:03
Speaker 3: I'm doing fine. Thank you for taking time out of
• 34:05
Speaker 3: your schedule to be here. How did you get involved
• 34:07
Speaker 3: with this whole thing with the East End Yard Sale?
• 34:09
Speaker 12: So, as you guys know, Piedmont's right on the East
• 34:12
Speaker 12: End of Charleston and the principal I'm the principal there. Yes,
• 34:16
Speaker 12: this is my eighth year there, so I know a
• 34:18
Speaker 12: lot of the community community members now and the East
• 34:21
Speaker 12: End Association reached out to us last year and they
• 34:24
Speaker 12: were like, hey, we need a new sponsorship, we need
• 34:28
Speaker 12: some more manpower. Would your PTO, which is our parent
• 34:32
Speaker 12: teacher organization, would you guys want to help? So we
• 34:35
Speaker 12: met last year and kind of brainstormed and last year
• 34:39
Speaker 12: was I wanna say rocky, But we learned a lot
• 34:42
Speaker 12: from it and now this year we kind of ran
• 34:45
Speaker 12: with it and my PTO is taken over and we've
• 34:49
Speaker 12: got over one hundred vendors coming tomorrow.
• 34:52
Speaker 3: You got over one hundred and ving one hundred's got
• 34:54
Speaker 3: fifty there, so there's there's going to be some stuff. Yeah,
• 34:58
Speaker 3: love to be to be So can you tell us
• 35:01
Speaker 3: anything about the vendors anything?
• 35:02
Speaker 12: Absolutely. I actually brought my list because we do have
• 35:05
Speaker 12: a nice, pretty map. Okay, it has been put out
• 35:08
Speaker 12: on social media everywhere. We also will have paper copies too.
• 35:13
Speaker 12: But at the board office, which is on Elizabeth Street,
• 35:17
Speaker 12: we have those parking lots there there. We have a
• 35:20
Speaker 12: lot of small businesses. We've got people selling vintage items,
• 35:25
Speaker 12: people selling sun catchers, earrings. Baskin Robbins is going to
• 35:29
Speaker 12: be there with ice cream. We've got some freeze dried candy.
• 35:34
Speaker 12: And then we have over fifty residents signed up and
• 35:39
Speaker 12: they're all along Courier Lee Virginia Street. We've got a
• 35:43
Speaker 12: couple on the boulevard and some over on Jackson Nancy
• 35:47
Speaker 12: Maxwell over in that area, and then at Piedmont we
• 35:51
Speaker 12: have over twenty vendors registered. The Capitol High School cheerleaders
• 35:56
Speaker 12: will be there. They're selling hot dogs, and then the
• 35:59
Speaker 12: school is doing school pepperoni rolls and school cinnamon rolls.
• 36:04
Speaker 3: See the way that Ryan, my producer, his ears popped
• 36:06
  Speaker 3: up there.
• 36:08
Speaker 12: Yeah, school, we are actually making them fresh today. The
• 36:13
Speaker 12: cinnamon rolls are going to be made in the morning.
• 36:15
Speaker 12: That way, they're hot with you know, the the icing dripping.
• 36:19
Speaker 3: Why are we still sitting here now? Why why am
• 36:21
Speaker 3: I not a line over there waiting for tomorrow morning.
• 36:23
Speaker 12: So we've got a ton of vendors there also that
• 36:26
Speaker 12: are going to have items to sell. We've got a
• 36:30
Speaker 12: lady that's selling jams and jellies, and then we've got
• 36:33
Speaker 12: you know, your regular yard sale stuff, clothes and shoes,
• 36:36
Speaker 12: baby items. So we have a really big variety. So
• 36:40
  Speaker 12: I'm excited.
• 36:41
Speaker 3: Now, do you have any more space available?
• 36:43
Speaker 12: So at Piedmont we do because we have celebration station
• 36:47
Speaker 12: that we can expand to. Right now, we're going to
• 36:51
Speaker 12: utilize the main yard on Courrier Street, and then we'll
• 36:54
Speaker 12: go all the way down through Celebration station and we've
• 36:57
Speaker 12: got the basketball court there, so we do have some
• 37:00
Speaker 12: more space. If people want to come to Piedmont tomorrow,
• 37:02
Speaker 12: we have cut off the registration, but if they show
• 37:05
Speaker 12: up in the morning, I'll be glad to take cash payment.
• 37:08
Speaker 3: Yeah, there you go. Okay, Well, so our friends somebody
• 37:10
Speaker 3: had texted about you know, over Friday, I do a
• 37:12
Speaker 3: segment with Angie gillen Water from the Kennal Charleston Humane
• 37:15
Speaker 3: Association to ask about a textor wanted to know if
• 37:18
Speaker 3: there was space available. Unfortunately for the V one hundred
• 37:20
Speaker 3: yard sale, there is no space available, but you said
• 37:23
Speaker 3: if and we'll get in touch with Angie. If Angie
• 37:26
Speaker 3: and the folks can do it, you can make space
• 37:27
Speaker 3: for him at Piedmont.
• 37:28
Speaker 12: Absolutely absolutely, we want this to be a community event.
• 37:31
Speaker 12: We want everybody to come. We want as many nonprofits
• 37:34
Speaker 12: to be involved as possible. So yes, the Canal Humane Association,
• 37:40
  Speaker 12: definitely we would.
• 37:41
Speaker 3: All right, well, Angie, if you're listening, If not, we'll
• 37:42
Speaker 3: be getting in touch with you. Hopefully we can get you.
• 37:45
Speaker 3: We can get you over there. So this is going
• 37:48
Speaker 3: to I mean, this is going to be pretty big,
• 37:51
Speaker 3: and this is I mean, I'm trying to picture in
• 37:53
Speaker 3: my head when you're talking about these streets and all
• 37:56
Speaker 3: the people that are going to be involved, what's the
• 37:59
Speaker 3: traffic situation going to be like there?
• 38:00
Speaker 12: So we we will block off the parking lot at
• 38:04
Speaker 12: the board office tonight. We have the city trash trucks
• 38:07
Speaker 12: coming through scheduled. We have Mountain Mission scheduled for pickup,
• 38:13
Speaker 12: so we're gonna have an extra police presence. There will
• 38:16
Speaker 12: be parking available at Piedmont, so we've got a lot
• 38:20
Speaker 12: behind the building if anybody wants to park there and walk.
• 38:23
Speaker 12: It's gonna be a high traffic area. Parking is going
• 38:26
Speaker 12: to be tricky. It is downtown always, but there are
• 38:30
Speaker 12: many churches around there that have lots. But people can
• 38:33
Speaker 12: definitely park at Piedmont if they would like. And uh,
• 38:36
Speaker 12: the YWCA also has some parking lots that you can
• 38:39
Speaker 12: use and past and present right there across from the
• 38:43
Speaker 12: board office. They are having an outdoor sale tomorrow to
• 38:46
  Speaker 12: promote their store.
• 38:47
Speaker 3: Okay, so we really want people to go. I mean
• 38:49
Speaker 3: people want bargains, man. This is the this is Charleston's
• 38:52
Speaker 3: the place to be. Yet if you.
• 38:54
Speaker 12: Could spend the day and probably get your Christmas done
• 38:57
  Speaker 12: to Christmas.
• 38:58
Speaker 3: Christmas twenty thirty five be taking care of but Dave
• 39:01
Speaker 3: Island showing five Any Live is brought to you a
• 39:03
Speaker 3: part by Bridge Valley offering custom tailored training, supplying skilled
• 39:06
Speaker 3: graduates and apprenticeships for your company. Who's a Bridge Valley
• 39:09
Speaker 3: dot EEDU. So you said Mountain Mission is going to
• 39:12
Speaker 3: be there tomorrow as well. I know they're also going
• 39:14
Speaker 3: to be at the V one hundred yard sales. So
• 39:16
Speaker 3: we say that because if people have things that they
• 39:19
Speaker 3: maybe don't want to take back home. Now again, as
• 39:21
Speaker 3: Steve said, though, we don't want your junk, okay, I
• 39:24
Speaker 3: mean it's just as something that's maybe maybe a little
• 39:26
Speaker 3: bulky or something, or you just haven't been able to
• 39:28
Speaker 3: sell it at previous yard sales. Don't use it as
• 39:30
Speaker 3: an opportunity to get rid of your junk. You know,
• 39:32
  Speaker 3: they're not a trash service.
• 39:34
Speaker 12: Yeah, donate things that they can profit off of. Also
• 39:37
Speaker 12: because they all are nonprofits as well, So we want
• 39:40
Speaker 12: to help as many people as possible.
• 39:42
Speaker 3: Talk about talk about your school, about Piedmont, because I
• 39:44
  Speaker 3: know you're amazing.
• 39:46
Speaker 12: It is amazing. We are the only year round school
• 39:49
Speaker 12: in the state of West Virginia.
• 39:51
Speaker 3: How do you feel about that, educate it. Okay, it's the.
• 39:53
Speaker 12: Best schedule ever. So we will finish up this school
• 39:57
Speaker 12: year on June the fifth, and then and we are off.
• 40:00
Speaker 12: We come back right after the fourth of July. It's
• 40:04
Speaker 12: July seventh, eighth, and ninth, somewhere in there, and that
• 40:06
Speaker 12: will begin our new school year. And then we go
• 40:09
Speaker 12: for nine weeks, and we're off for three, which is
• 40:12
Speaker 12: in September. Then we go for nine and again we're
• 40:14
Speaker 12: off three weeks in December, nine more weeks. We're off
• 40:18
Speaker 12: three weeks in March.
• 40:19
Speaker 3: And the reason I ask you about that is because

Speaker 3: there have been education experts of which I am not one,
• 40:26
Speaker 3: that have said that when you look at statistically, and
• 40:29
Speaker 3: again you know, with statistics you can make them say
• 40:31
Speaker 3: whatever you want, but they have said that they feel
• 40:34
Speaker 3: a lot of people in education think this is the
• 40:37
Speaker 3: future for American schools, and that the parents who said
• 40:40
Speaker 3: they didn't like it, when they got into the groove
• 40:44
Speaker 3: and with the kids, they actually liked it better in
• 40:46
  Speaker 3: many cases.
• 40:47
Speaker 12: Yeah, and our community they're used to it.
• 40:50
Speaker 3: I mean, it's been have you been doing it.
• 40:52
Speaker 12: It's been over thirty years that it's been year round.
• 40:54
  Speaker 3: Oh, Okay.
• 40:55
Speaker 12: So the only year that we weren't year round was
• 40:59
Speaker 12: the COVID year. We went regular calendar.
• 41:01
Speaker 3: That doesn't camp for anything, right, that was a that
• 41:03
  Speaker 3: was a wash.
• 41:07
Speaker 12: I like it because when you need a break, just
• 41:10
Speaker 12: when you need a break, you get one. So I
• 41:11
Speaker 12: like to tell people they get their report card and
• 41:14
Speaker 12: then they get a three week break. And our kids
• 41:16
Speaker 12: are accustomed to it, you know, they.
• 41:18
Speaker 3: Just taking it back while I was at school. That
• 41:19
Speaker 3: gives me three weeks to make excuses, three weeks or
• 41:23
Speaker 3: good or bad, or three weeks of punishment, you know,
• 41:25
Speaker 3: cleaning out, you know the garage for three But anyway.
• 41:28
Speaker 12: Go ahead, and all of our you know, community people.
• 41:30
Speaker 12: We have a program through Step by Step, which is
• 41:33
Speaker 12: an after school program, and they partner with us and
• 41:36
Speaker 12: they offer free programming when our breaks are happening, which
• 41:40
  Speaker 12: is nice.

Speaker 3: Nine fifty three graduation coming up on the campus of
• 45:53
Speaker 3: the Yellow Jackets at West Virginia State. Jack Bailey from
• 45:56
Speaker 3: States here to talk about it. Jack, Welcome to the show.
• 45:59
Speaker 5: Hey Da, thank you so much for having me on
• 46:00
  Speaker 5: this morning.
• 46:01
Speaker 3: Give us the details about graduation.
• 46:04
Speaker 5: So yes, Tomorrow Saturday, at ten o'clock, our spring graduation
• 46:09
Speaker 5: will take place here at Western State University. We will
• 46:13
Speaker 5: be graduating the class of twenty twenty five. We have
• 46:17
Speaker 5: about two hundred and forty graduates that will be receiving
• 46:20
Speaker 5: their diplomas tomorrow, and it's really just one of the
• 46:23
Speaker 5: most exciting days of the year we have on campus.
• 46:26
Speaker 5: It's the Walker Convocation Center should be packed with our
• 46:29
Speaker 5: graduates and their families, and it'll be It's a good
• 46:31
Speaker 5: day to be to be a Yellowjacket.
• 46:33
Speaker 3: Holst, have you been in the education business for a while.
• 46:35
Speaker 3: How's how's college graduation change over the last few years.
• 46:40
Speaker 5: Well, the one thing I always liked about our graduation
• 46:44
Speaker 5: here at State is that each of our graduates, each
• 46:47
Speaker 5: individual student gets their moment in the spotlight, if you will.
• 46:52
Speaker 5: Every graduate gets their name called individually, and every graduate
• 46:56
Speaker 5: walks across the stage, gets to shake hands with our
• 46:58
Speaker 5: president Eric Cage, get their picture taken with President Cage.
• 47:02
Speaker 5: So every one of our graduates gets their moment in
• 47:04
Speaker 5: the spotlight, so to speak. And that's a really big
• 47:08
Speaker 5: difference from I know when I graduated college.
• 47:10
Speaker 3: So yeah, yeah, again, we're talking with Jack Bailey from
• 47:13
Speaker 3: West Virginia State University. And there's some one thing I've
• 47:16
Speaker 3: learned since covering the things that you guys do. We
• 47:19
Speaker 3: have some great institutions, you know, I mean obviously Marshall
• 47:22
Speaker 3: wvu Bridge Valley, University of Charleston, but there's a pride
• 47:27
Speaker 3: that comes with State.
• 47:28
  Speaker 13: Man.
• 47:28
Speaker 3: You people really take this seriously, don't you. I mean
• 47:30
Speaker 3: as far as being a State graduate, right.
• 47:33
Speaker 5: We really do, we really do. There are ten thousand
• 47:37
Speaker 5: alumni of Westernian State University here in the Kannall Valley alone.
• 47:41
Speaker 5: Like I said, tomorrow we're going to add another two
• 47:43
Speaker 5: hundred and forty graduates to the ranks of alumni. But
• 47:46
Speaker 5: it's amazing. Anytime I'm in Charleston or out and around
• 47:49
Speaker 5: in the area, people say, hey, you work at State,
• 47:51
Speaker 5: don't you, And it's just yeah, there is a real
• 47:53
Speaker 5: pride of family and familiarity with folks who have graduated
• 47:59
Speaker 5: from State, and a lot of pride in what we
• 48:00
  Speaker 5: do here.
• 48:01
Speaker 3: All right? Well, Jack will run a little bit short
• 48:03
Speaker 3: on time. Give us the time for graduation again tomorrow.
• 48:06
Speaker 5: It's ten o'clock. If you can't attend in person, it is.
• 48:10
Speaker 5: It will be live streamed on the university's live stream channel,
• 48:13
Speaker 5: and we've shared that link out on our website and
• 48:14
Speaker 5: social media. But ten o'clock tomorrow, Institute, West Virginia.
• 48:17

Speaker 18: called steam release at eleven thirty that it always builds up.
• 50:56
  Speaker 18: Should be good, I feel it. I think there's a

• 51:56
Speaker 18: Letting it look out for Larry Pack, the evil Larry,
• 52:00
Speaker 18: because that's what he does. Yeah, all right, now I'm
• 52:03
Speaker 18: gonna have to do the research to figure out how
• 52:06
Speaker 18: it should be reported as income tax or income.
• 52:08
Speaker 3: Or well, don't shut down our yard sales man, our
• 52:11
Speaker 3: pro yard sales, except when they're in my neighborhood. That's
• 52:14
  Speaker 3: a different story. I don't have a problem with the
