- 0:00Aloha. Saturday morning in Hawaiʻi. A Wind Advisory is in effect until 6 PM — summits and exposed ridges are off the table today. Expect gusts across all islands, especially in the mountains and gaps.
- 1:54Windward and upslope areas will see scattered showers; leeward spots stay dry. If you're planning an outdoor day, favor sheltered leeward beaches and avoid the heights. A Small Craft Advisory is up for nearshore waters with seas over 10 feet — that's a watch-from-shore day for most people. Tomorrow the wind eases, and by Sunday through early next week, conditions improve significantly.
- 2:13Surf-wise: Kauaʻi's Hanalei is at 6.8 feet with powerful shore break — experienced swimmers and surfers only. Oʻahu's south and north shores are moderate at 5.6 and 4.6 feet respectively, with rip currents to watch. Maui is small at 3.5 feet, and the Big Island is calm at 1.6 feet — better days for families and snorkelers.
- 2:29At Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park, several trails remain closed: Sulfur Banks, Kīpukapuaulu, and Lava Tube Bridge are out. The summit area has a volcanic ash caution in effect. Everywhere else is operating normally.
- 2:40Our recent guide on fall ocean safety covers where it's actually safe to swim once October and November roll around. Right now, the south and west shores are your friends. By fall, that changes — the north and east shores start getting winter swell, so you'll want to know which beaches switch to which islands. It's worth planning ahead if you're a repeat visitor.
- 2:59Wednesday brings moisture and scattered showers back to windward slopes and the western islands, especially mid-week. Until then, Sunday through early next week is your window for hiking and beach days.
- 3:09Stay out of the heights today. Catch you tomorrow.
