- 0:28Welcome in to another exciting episode of the scene.
- 0:31I am your host, Bubba Starts, and with me today is songwriter, Larcette.
- 0:35Larcette, welcome to the show.
- 0:37Hello there.
- 0:39I'm so grateful to have you.
- 0:41We are spending quite a bit of time catching up, preshow because you're gonna be part of our
- 0:46songwriter showcase program, one of our Nashville dates.
- 0:50We're really excited to have you there.
- 0:53That episode, will it whether it's aired or not before this, we'll have to see.
- 0:58Only time will tell.
- 0:59But, we're gonna focus a lot more on the music there, where today we're gonna focus on, the
- 1:05songwriter and the human being behind the song.
- 1:08So, Larcette, I I always like to start off the episodes with a little bit of your backstory,
- 1:13and then we can kinda pick up the conversation from there.
- 1:16So the floor is yours.
- 1:19Well, basically, I am actually going to be 55 years old, so that's kinda crazy in itself.
- 1:30But, essentially, I finally found my passion in my role, in this life.
- 1:40And I unfortunately found this path, through some tragedy, and some heartbreak, that
- 1:48happened within my family.
- 1:50But, again, long story short, because of that path, I found this passion, this passion to be
- 1:59able to share my voice, with the world and hopefully help somebody out there that is in
- 2:07need of, some good, uplifting, music, telling a great story, and hopefully help them out in
- 2:16their future.
- 2:17So there is a huge passion that came out of all of this.
- 2:21So I am just just so grateful to be able to have this opportunity to share my words with
- 2:28everyone because the tragedy that did happen kind of kept me away from speaking anything for
- 2:34a really long time, and, that's not gonna happen anymore.
- 2:38I am going to share everything that I have to say that has been kept from me for so long, and
- 2:45I'm gonna share it in my music.
- 2:47So I am excited.
- 2:48I am so excited to be able to let everyone, listen.
- 2:54And anyone that may have questions about how the song was derived, how it was put together,
- 3:01I'd be more than happy to share that with you because that is, quite frankly, the story of my
- 3:07life, and a lot of my, songs will be written as parts of my story.
- 3:14So it's kind of exciting.
- 3:18I I I love that.
- 3:19And we we talked about it last night on our live show, love noise, and talked about, you
- 3:25know, songwriting often comes from a deeply personal space for all of us.
- 3:30You know?
- 3:30For a a lot of songwriters, you know, writing songs is a form of therapy.
- 3:35Right?
- 3:35It's it's how we, have gotten through the things that have happened to us or, you know,
- 3:42through us or or whatever the whatever the case may be.
- 3:45It's how we process our emotions.
- 3:48It's how we get these things out of ourselves and into the world to hopefully inspire others
- 3:54to either find their own voice or to work through a particular emotion or, you know,
- 4:00situation in their lives.
- 4:03And, I think that whenever you find that, it's just as powerful.
- 4:07For me, I've been writing songs since I was a teenager.
- 4:10But for others, it happens at a much later stage in our lives.
- 4:13And now songwriting has become a lot more accessible to everyone because the the aspect
- 4:20of the musical ability, has kind of been opened up to the world through AI, through things, you
- 4:28know, apps like Suno and others.
- 4:31Right?
- 4:31I I know that you mentioned you use an a different app.
- 4:34Mhmm.
- 4:34But Mhmm.
- 4:35That it it's now given an ability to take the words that mean a lot to you and have them come
- 4:42together, as a true song.
- 4:45And I think that's so incredible.
- 4:47Absolutely.
- 4:48I mean, when I was putting these songs together, Bubba, I can't tell you how locked
- 4:54in, essentially, I was.
- 4:56And then hearing my lyrics, my words through music that I I I love music.
- 5:04I've always loved music.
- 5:05But more importantly, I listened to music because music often tells a story.
- 5:12So, yes, when I was putting it together and listening to the vocals and the music in which
- 5:19I created to, through my lyrics, was absolutely amazing.
- 5:24It was so heartfelt.
- 5:26It actually focused me so much that I got kinda crazy with it, and I just kept pumping out the
- 5:32lyrics.
- 5:32But it is, it's different because a lot of people when you when you talk about AI music,
- 5:40so many people come up with, well, that's AI, Tracy.
- 5:43Come on.
- 5:44There's no way that, you know, you're gonna go anywhere making music on an AI platform.
- 5:50And I'm just like, well, you know, it's not necessarily the music entirely.
- 5:54It's my voice.
- 5:56And if this is a way for me to get my voice out there to be heard, then you know what?
- 6:03I don't care if it's AI or not.
- 6:04I'm doing it.
- 6:05Well, hello.
- 6:06I'm here today.
- 6:07I'm talking to Bubba.
- 6:08Mhmm.
- 6:09So, yes, I'm getting out there, and I'm gonna do something about it.
- 6:13In a lot of my songs, you will hear, frequently, the fist of strength.
- 6:19Now that is used a lot because I often had to tell myself through this journey of the last
- 6:26twenty years or so that I do have strength, and I'm building it.
- 6:31I'm building that fist of strength.
- 6:34So a lot of my songs share that encouragement.
- 6:38Also, I talk a lot about the unspoken word.
- 6:41So and emotions, how important they are to to music and how important they are to those that
- 6:48are actually listening to it.
- 6:50So if you had a little history about where that music was derived from, and what types of
- 6:55listeners you're looking for, then, yeah, I mean, this is the tune for you.
- 7:00So I I'm definitely into it.
- 7:02I'm a little bit more than into it.
- 7:04I don't know.
- 7:04Is this a career change, Bubba?
- 7:06I don't know.
- 7:06Yeah.
- 7:07Well, as someone who found songwriting very early in my life sorry.
- 7:12My cat was literally trying to eat my hand.
- 7:13I had to kick her
- 7:14out of the studio.
- 7:16Not to get distracted with you, but it is addicting.
- 7:21Right?
- 7:21One once you get those kinda juices flowing, it's hard to turn them off sometimes.
- 7:27And, especially, I know what that bug is like to, to write a song.
- 7:31Right?
- 7:31And granted, I'm a guitar player, so I've always written from the guitar and from that
- 7:35space.
- 7:36But then to bring those songs to other people and to have them start to form, and I think
- 7:41it's incredible.
- 7:42I I find myself while, I mean, there's no money in music anyway.
- 7:47So what what does it matter?
- 7:49These artists who are getting
- 7:50It's just an expression.
- 7:52Kinda getting exactly.
- 7:53And people are missing the point of being a songwriter, getting an opportunity to tell your
- 7:57story.
- 7:58And just because you maybe don't have the musical ability of somebody who's spent thirty
- 8:02years plus playing an instrument and learning how to do that, your story is just as important
- 8:08as theirs is.
- 8:10And the Correct.
- 8:10Fact that you now have the ability to share that story regardless of the tools that you're
- 8:15using, to me, it's kind of irregardless.
- 8:18I consider myself much more of a songwriter maybe than a musician.
- 8:23So I I am able to maybe sympathize with that.
- 8:27Now are you going to be able to take these out and to perform them?
- 8:31Right?
- 8:31And that's something that we're talking about featuring you on the songwriter showcase
- 8:35program is, well, how do we share this?
- 8:37What does this look like to be able to do this where you can't just sit down with a guitar on
- 8:43a stage and to physically get those out there?
- 8:46But that's not necessarily what it's about.
- 8:48You know?
- 8:48You are inside there's plenty of people that are living in Nashville that can't play a lick
- 8:52of music, but they fancy themselves songwriters.
- 8:55Right?
- 8:55And they would call themselves songwriters.
- 8:57And there are people that are published and are out there and in the world that are not
- 9:00musicians, but they are songwriters.
- 9:02Their words have impacted the world in that way.
- 9:05So I don't know why using AI to be able to get the thought out of your head and to be able to
- 9:11craft something, I don't know how that makes you any less of a songwriter.
- 9:16And, you know, to be honest, you know, knowing that AI is out there, probably a lot of people
- 9:22are assuming, you know, with writing songs, all you have to do is type in a topic, type type in
- 9:28a a chorus line, and AI prints out this little song for you.
- 9:33Well, it's not that cut and dry, and it's not that easy.
- 9:36It takes a lot of time and effort.
- 9:40You know?
- 9:41You do have to find out what the best chorus is, how to use it, where to use it in your
- 9:46outline.
- 9:48There's there's so much more to just taking AI lyrics that are driven from your, you know,
- 9:54your computer and popping it into an AI generator.
- 9:59There's so much more to it.
- 10:01It takes me a really long time just to just to create one song.
- 10:07So and a lot of my lyrics did not come from AI.
- 10:12They were up here in my heart and all up here.
- 10:15One of my songs in my second album, is called my mind.
- 10:20And, basically, just letting everyone know that everything that's created from Larcette out
- 10:26there to you is created from this mind.
- 10:29So it's it's very inspiring.
- 10:32It's inspiring to me to be able to tell people that and to be so proud about it, but also that
- 10:39someone can take such great lyrics, put them out there, and help somebody share it, make
- 10:47somebody smile, whatever the case may be.
- 10:49I don't care if it's through an AI generator or not.
- 10:54The public is gonna hear me.
- 10:57I know that, Bubba.
- 10:59The public is gonna hear me.
- 11:00Some way, shape, or form, they're gonna hear me.
- 11:03And that's what it's about.
- 11:05It's about the expression, and does that expression affect another human being?
- 11:09And I think that's what's so cool about AI, music and these, you know, these apps and these
- 11:16programs that are out there now to help people express themselves.
- 11:20And I think at the end of the day, that's why I'm passionate about it because I feel like
- 11:24everyone deserves that chance to express themselves.
- 11:28Whether they've spent, you know, a couple of decades learning how to play an instrument and
- 11:33dedicating themselves to that side, I don't know how to create AI music.
- 11:37So to say that just anyone can do it is not true.
- 11:40I use AI all the time, but I've never used it to craft a song and to do these things, and and
- 11:45it would be a whole another learning curve for me to do so.
- 11:48And I don't have any passion to do it.
- 11:52I I don't care.
- 11:53But I also don't care if anyone else does it either, and I'm not going to besmirch your
- 11:58expression because I wouldn't do it that way.
- 12:01Tools that I used.
- 12:02Yeah.
- 12:03It I to me, it doesn't matter.
- 12:04And maybe that's a much different take.
- 12:06I've never made any money in music, so maybe that affects me in that way as well.
- 12:10Right?
- 12:11I mean, I've gotten paid to go out and perform live, but that's the only way I've gotten to
- 12:14perform, right, is live.
- 12:16And I know that that's something necessarily that you will never be able to do.
- 12:20Right?
- 12:21That's not a part of your journey, and that's okay as well.
- 12:25But you know what?
- 12:26At at the same token, Bubba, I was kinda hoping that maybe you might be able to share this with
- 12:32me.
- 12:32I don't know what is out there in the music world today as it applies to, you know, not
- 12:37being an actual vocalist.
- 12:40I do know that there are a lot of artists out there that are not the best singers in the
- 12:44world, but due to their producers and and whatnot, things are, given to those vocalists
- 12:50out there on stage amazing performances without the voice.
- 12:56So I know that there is things out there that can give me the ability to do that.
- 13:00However, is it is it my destiny to be in a spotlight?
- 13:06I don't know that it is.
- 13:08I think it may just be writing those lyrics and having someone else express that for me
- 13:14vocally.
- 13:16Well, and there are thousands of songwriters in Nashville alone that aren't the performers of
- 13:21the songs that they write.
- 13:22There there are people that are out there writing songs for someone else's voice, and
- 13:27there's a whole economy of that.
- 13:30And it's Yes.
- 13:31I'm hoping to reach out to them.
- 13:32Yeah.
- 13:33Well and and you're hanging out in the right place.
- 13:36Right?
- 13:36You're going to Nashville, hanging out in our community because we have plenty of people who
- 13:41are performers that can't write songs or that don't write songs.
- 13:45Like, are there they're more than capable musically of doing that, but they don't have
- 13:49that creative spark to write their own music.
- 13:52And they're brilliant performers, but I realize the more and especially having as many
- 13:56conversations with people as I have now that we all come from a different place.
- 14:00And it's very easy to get locked in and say, well, everybody's like me.
- 14:03Not everyone's like me that sits down with a guitar and writes from the heart.
- 14:07Some people just write songs to get famous.
- 14:10Some people
- 14:10just just write songs perform.
- 14:12Yes.
- 14:13Yes.
- 14:13So we all come from different areas of expression.
- 14:16We all have different motivations for that.
- 14:18It's about respecting each other enough to say, hey.
- 14:21I see your form of expression.
- 14:23I respect that.
- 14:24I appreciate that, and I'm not going to spend any time talking down or talking badly about
- 14:30the way that you created this.
- 14:32To me, it doesn't matter.
- 14:33And maybe that makes that's probably what sets me apart from a lot of other people, but I
- 14:38don't feel threatened by AI.
- 14:40And I don't feel threatened by any other artist, to be perfectly honest.
- 14:43Our journeys are all of our own to walk.
- 14:46So how can your journey, you know, affect mine if only in a positive way?
- 14:52I don't see anyone as competition in the music world, and maybe that's a lot different than, a
- 14:58lot of other people would.
- 14:59I know a lot of people feel threatened by AI right now, feel threatened by that because
- 15:04their livelihoods are being affected, whether it's on the songwriting or recording side.
- 15:09I know that people are probably losing work, but you have to be able to adapt to the world
- 15:14as it is around you because not adapting is certain to, befall certain trouble.
- 15:21Right.
- 15:22And I have the ability right now to to do whatever it takes to get myself out there to to
- 15:27make this happen.
- 15:29So and I don't wanna pass up that opportunity.
- 15:32So just meeting with you, Bubba, and just talking with you and and under your goals, for
- 15:40everyone that's in your community.
- 15:41I think it's inspiring, and I'm looking forward to it.
- 15:46Well, I absolutely can't wait.
- 15:48Do you have any music that's out currently where people can find it and listen to it?
- 15:52Yes.
- 15:53I am published on, just about every app or I don't even know how this all works, but, like,
- 16:02Spotify, Amazon Music, TikTok, YouTube.
- 16:07Just the only place I have not yet to conquer is Apple Music, but everything is out there.
- 16:14My first album, it's called, strength and love.
- 16:18There are 10 tracks to that album.
- 16:22And definitely get out there and listen to it because let me tell you, you are not going to
- 16:27be disappointed.
- 16:29It's great lyrics.
- 16:30It's great music.
- 16:31And, and I hope it is inspiring for you in in any way possible.
- 16:38And all of that can be found under the name Larcette?
- 16:42It can be.
- 16:44Larsette.
- 16:45I'm not that's that's essentially my stage name, at this point.
- 16:50So, because I have, you know, I'm known well in the area because of the work that I do.
- 16:58I'm also just one of those people that just likes to talk to everyone, and I smile all the
- 17:03time, hence the wrinkles.
- 17:06But, yes, I I just love being out there.
- 17:09I love talking.
- 17:10And social media.
- 17:13I I I you'll find me on social media everywhere.
- 17:16I'm trying.
- 17:18Fantastic.
- 17:19Well, I know single handedly how hard it is, and I've I've been here.
- 17:23I've been songwriting for twenty five plus years, and now we've been podcasting for going
- 17:30on two years as well and building up this platform to support expression at the end of
- 17:35the day.
- 17:35It's not just about the artist or the the music that they play.
- 17:39We are a in every way, a genre less show, which may hurt us on, you know, some platforms
- 17:46because they want everybody wants you to be so niche and to be in your lane, and I just
- 17:51refuse.
- 17:52I'm going to be me.
- 17:53And if people are going to accept that, then fantastic.
- 17:56And if not, I probably won't remember you anyway.
- 17:59So Exactly.
- 18:00I really appreciate you, Larcette, for joining us today.
- 18:03I'm really looking forward to meeting you in person down there in Nashville for the
- 18:07songwriter showcase.
- 18:08Mhmm.
- 18:09Thank you for spending some time with me today, and thank you for being part of the scene.
- 18:13Thank you, Bubba.
- 18:14Thank you.
- 18:19Imagine capturing the raw essence of nature with its infinite color and beauty.
- 18:28Now, envision turning that into something truly transformative.
- 18:34Pure and easy tea cultivates the goodness of nature's bounty into fuel for your body.
- 18:41We are what we drink.
- 18:45Pure and easy tea, the pure nourishment your body craves.
