  became the richest king the world had ever seen.

  He built great buildings. He had beautiful palaces.

  He had gold, silver, and treasures from many

  nations. His kingdom was filled with peace and

  success. People came from far away just to hear

  Solomon's wisdom. One of those visitors was a

  powerful queen from a distant land. The queen

  of Sheba. She came to test Solomon with hard

  questions. She saw Solomon's wealth, his servants.

  and the way his kingdom was organized. She listened

  to his wisdom. She even saw the temple Solomon

  had built for the Lord. The queen of Sheba was

  amazed. She praised the Lord because she could

  see that God had blessed Solomon greatly. Solomon's

  life looked like a great success. But something

  was happening quietly in Solomon's heart. He

  began to marry many women from other nations.

  These women did not worship the Lord. They worshipped

  false gods. And over time, he began to listen

  to them. As he grew older, his wives turned his

  heart away from the Lord. Instead of worshipping

  the one true God with all his heart, Solomon

  began to build places of worship for idols. This

  was very serious. Because Solomon knew the truth.

  Solomon had built the temple. Solomon had prayed

  to God. Solomon had been warned. But Solomon

  drifted anyway. And this teaches us something

  very important. A person can be very wise and

  still make foolish choices. God was angry with

  Solomon. because Solomon's heart had turned away,
