- 0:11Speaker 1: lose in I can't, I can't, I can't stand lose
- 0:14Speaker 1: in edition, as the Bengals franchise record losing streak stands
- 0:19Speaker 1: at thirteen games over the last two seasons following a
- 0:23Speaker 1: sixteen to ten loss to their Tormentors from Western Pa,
- 0:27Speaker 1: the Pittsburgh Steelers. Coming up, you'll hear radio replays, locker
- 0:31Speaker 1: room comments, and Dave Lapham will join me for postgame analysis. Plus,
- 0:36Speaker 1: in this week's fun Facts Conversation, we'll meet the person
- 0:39Speaker 1: under the pads is. I'll talk to a Bengals defensive
- 0:42Speaker 1: lineman who says if he could meet anybody on Earth,
- 0:46Speaker 1: it would be the world's third wealthiest person, Warren Buffett.
- 0:50Speaker 1: All of that is straight ahead, but first, here's a
- 0:52Speaker 1: quick reminder that you can have the latest edition of
- 0:55Speaker 1: this podcast delivered right to your phone, tablet, or computer
- 0:58Speaker 1: by subscribing iTunes, Stitcher, Google Play, Spotify, or pod Bean.
- 1:03Speaker 1: It's the greatest thing since a Yetti thermis. My wife
- 1:09Speaker 1: has a thermis that she uses to take coffee to work,
- 1:12Speaker 1: made by Yetti YETI, it's incredible. According to the YETI website,
- 1:18Speaker 1: the key is it's double walled, vacuum sealed insulation that
- 1:23Speaker 1: can keep hot liquid hot or cold liquid cold for
- 1:27Speaker 1: more than twenty four hours with ease. They're not cheap,
- 1:31Speaker 1: but if you're looking for space age technology in a thermis,
- 1:35Speaker 1: YETTI is the way to go. Let's get to football.
- 1:39Speaker 1: The Pittsburgh Steeler's dominance at Paul Brown Stadium defies logic
- 1:43Speaker 1: and almost defies description. Heading into Sunday's game, the Steelers
- 1:47Speaker 1: all time record at PBS was eighteen and three. Let
- 1:51Speaker 1: me repeat that, eighteen and three, but most of those
- 1:57Speaker 1: wins were started by Ben Roethlisberger fifteen and two at
- 2:01Speaker 1: Paul Brown Stadium, but Big Ben obviously wasn't in uniform
- 2:04Speaker 1: this time due to his season ending elbow injury. Instead,
- 2:08Speaker 1: the Steelers QB was Mason Rudolph in his first start
- 2:11Speaker 1: since Myles Garrett tried to club him in the noggin
- 2:14Speaker 1: with Rudolph's own helmet. Rudolph through four interceptions last week
- 2:19Speaker 1: in Cleveland and through another in the first quarter on Sunday,
- 2:23Speaker 1: Rudolph back to throw his past It's deflected is intercepted
- 2:27Speaker 1: at the four yard line, and the Bengals are running
- 2:29Speaker 1: it back Seawan Williams to the fifteen yard line. That's
- 2:33Speaker 1: where he's tackled as Cincinnati gets a deflection at the
- 2:36Speaker 1: line of scrimmage and the ball floated right into the
- 2:39Speaker 1: arms of safety Sean Williams. Carlos Dunlap deflected the pass
- 2:43Speaker 1: and the game was scoreless after a quarter. The Bengals
- 2:47Speaker 1: dodged a bullet on that drive, but the next time
- 2:49Speaker 1: the Steelers reached the red zone they took the lead.
- 2:52Speaker 1: Chris Boswell into attempt at twenty six yard field goal try.
- 2:56Speaker 1: He has never missed a kick in his life against
- 2:59Speaker 1: the Sins and Eddie Bengals. Would you believe forty four
- 3:02Speaker 1: for forty four between field goals and Pats make it
- 3:07Speaker 1: forty five for forty five as he drills the short
- 3:09Speaker 1: field goal and gives the Steelers a three nothing lead
- 3:13Speaker 1: with three twenty one left in the half. To that point,
- 3:17Speaker 1: the Bengals offense had been anemic under rookie quarterback Ryan Finley.
- 3:21Speaker 1: They had a total of twenty seven yards on their
- 3:24Speaker 1: first four possessions, but that changed in the blink of
- 3:28Speaker 1: an eye thanks to Tyler Boyd. Finley fakes a hand off,
- 3:31Speaker 1: he's back to throw, looking looking cutting it deep down
- 3:35Speaker 1: field for Tyler boy Baby makes a one hand to
- 3:38Speaker 1: catch at the Pittsburgh fifty yard line on a grab
- 3:42Speaker 1: with a left hand despite blank at coverage by Terrell Edmonds.
- 3:47Speaker 1: That forty seven yard game put the Bengals at the
- 3:49Speaker 1: fifteen yard line, and on the next play, Finley went
- 3:53Speaker 1: right back to number eighty three. Bengals have two receivers
- 3:56Speaker 1: out to the right, one out to the left. Finley
- 3:58Speaker 1: waiting for a shotgun snap back at the money, he'll
- 4:00Speaker 1: look to pass. He's gonna throw it for the end
- 4:02Speaker 1: zone and Tyler Boyd he goes up, he grabs the ball.
- 4:05Speaker 1: It's a touchdown as he pushed off. Joe had him
- 4:10Speaker 1: no penalty flag and then Boyd hauld it in for
- 4:13Speaker 1: a Bengals touchdown that gave the Bengals their biggest halftime
- 4:17Speaker 1: lead of the year, seven to three. Here's Ryan Finlay,
- 4:22Speaker 1: I'm Tyler Boyd. Unbelievable play by Tyler. He's just a playmaker,
- 4:26Speaker 1: and we talked about all week. Just given him a
- 4:29Speaker 1: chance on those one on one fifty fifty balls and
- 4:32Speaker 1: he's gonna come down with it. He did it twice
- 4:33Speaker 1: in a row. He did it on that one and
- 4:35Speaker 1: then he did it for the touchdown. So unbelievable job
- 4:37Speaker 1: by him. He's he's a heck of a player and
- 4:40Speaker 1: we need to do that more. Just give him opportunity
- 4:42Speaker 1: to just make a play. The Steelers got the ball
- 4:44Speaker 1: to begin the third quarter and went backward on their
- 4:47Speaker 1: first possession of the second half, rud off back to throw,
- 4:50Speaker 1: bouncing in the pocket, night to scramble and sacked the
- 4:54Speaker 1: ball at the very end. That should be intentional grounding.
- 4:58Speaker 1: He was definitely in the grass. They're going to just
- 5:00Speaker 1: call it a sack. Back at the eleven yard line
- 5:03Speaker 1: and big Andrew Billings grabbed Mason Rudolph. At that point,
- 5:07Speaker 1: Steelers coach Mike Tomlin had seen enough. Rudolph had a
- 5:11Speaker 1: passer rating of thirty nine point eight and the Steelers
- 5:14Speaker 1: had just three points after seven possessions, so Tomlin yanked
- 5:18Speaker 1: Rudolph and turned to undrafted rookie quarterback Devlin duck Hodges.
- 5:25Speaker 1: He got the nickname when he won a national duck
- 5:27Speaker 1: calling contest a decade ago, and it took him just
- 5:31Speaker 1: three plays to give Pittsburgh the lease second and seventeen.
- 5:35Speaker 1: He catches this one cleanly, looking to pass fires deep
- 5:38Speaker 1: down the midfield, James Washington wide open, a Bengal fell down.
- 5:42Speaker 1: Washington sprinting down the field, stiff arms b W. Webb
- 5:46Speaker 1: pushes him over and runs into the end zone for
- 5:50Speaker 1: a seventy nine yard touchdown. Unbelievable. The pass was thrown
- 5:54Speaker 1: about thirty yards down field. Will Jackson slipped next to
- 5:58Speaker 1: Washington as he caught the ball, and Webb got pushed
- 6:01Speaker 1: over near the twenty five yard line. Here's BW on
- 6:05Speaker 1: Washington's big play. I made a good play. See, I
- 6:10Speaker 1: just couldn't. I gotta get him down. The Bengals were
- 6:12Speaker 1: able to answer thanks to strong running by Joe Mixon.
- 6:16Speaker 1: He carried eighteen times for seventy nine yards in the game,
- 6:19Speaker 1: and thirty eight of those yards came on Cincinnati's next
- 6:23Speaker 1: drive to set up a game time field goal. Kevin
- 6:26Speaker 1: Huber ready for the snap from Clark, Harris, extends the
- 6:29Speaker 1: right hand, catches it, puts it down, Bullocks kick on
- 6:32Speaker 1: its way. It is good, and the Bengals have tied
- 6:36Speaker 1: the game with five h seven left. Here in the
- 6:39Speaker 1: third quarter, it was ten ten going to the fourth quarter.
- 6:42Speaker 1: The Steelers got the ball with fourteen twenty to go,
- 6:45Speaker 1: and on third and eight at their own thirty one,
- 6:48Speaker 1: Hodges threw an incompletion that appeared to end the drive,
- 6:51Speaker 1: but a late penalty flag came out for pass interference
- 6:55Speaker 1: on b W Webb, a questionable call that the Bengals
- 6:59Speaker 1: did not challenge. On the very next play, Webb was
- 7:03Speaker 1: called for another pass interference penalty, this time guilty is charged,
- 7:08Speaker 1: giving the Steelers twenty six more yards. I told you
- 7:11Speaker 1: before we started doing this interview, I was surprised the
- 7:14Speaker 1: team didn't challenge the first interference call against you. Did
- 7:19Speaker 1: you think that you did anything there? I don't think
- 7:22Speaker 1: I did, But I mean, I guess the riff see
- 7:25Speaker 1: something that the whole world didn't see. But I mean,
- 7:29Speaker 1: I can't complain. A buddy called it, gotta move them.
- 7:32Speaker 1: Was that in your head on the next play? Nope,
- 7:35Speaker 1: not at all, the DD man we short memory get
- 7:38Speaker 1: onto the next play. Those penalties led to a forty
- 7:40Speaker 1: seven yard field goal by Chris Boswell, giving Pittsburgh a
- 7:44Speaker 1: thirteen to ten lead. There was plenty of time left,
- 7:48Speaker 1: and it looked like the Bengals were going to take
- 7:50Speaker 1: the lead. Right back first and ten at the Pittsburgh
- 7:53Speaker 1: thirty finley under center fakes a handoff. He's back to
- 7:56Speaker 1: throw half time, floats it deep, caught by Boyd at
- 7:59Speaker 1: the ten. The ball comes out, the Steelers scoop it
- 8:02Speaker 1: up at the six. They're running it back. Make a
- 8:05Speaker 1: Fitzpatrick at the forty and he'll be pulled down at
- 8:09Speaker 1: the forty three yard line. Real Tyler. Boyd finished with
- 8:12Speaker 1: five catches for one hundred one yards, but his fumble
- 8:16Speaker 1: cost the Bengals a first in goal opportunity near the
- 8:19Speaker 1: five yard line. You know, I for like um, I'll
- 8:22Speaker 1: put Filly in a horrible situation. Man. I put him
- 8:24Speaker 1: in a tough, tough situation. He's a first year player,
- 8:29Speaker 1: and uh man, I make that play. We three more plays.
- 8:32Speaker 1: I try to get an in down therest we backed up.
- 8:35Speaker 1: I really do, honestly believe if I make this play
- 8:37Speaker 1: and I hold the ball and we win the game.
- 8:40Speaker 1: Kevin Bush just got a hand in there and punched
- 8:42Speaker 1: it out. He made a great tackle. You know, if
- 8:44Speaker 1: I just secured the ball, yeah, don't happen. Cincinnati never
- 8:47Speaker 1: threatened again after another Boswell field goal made at sixteen ten.
- 8:52Speaker 1: The Bengals got the ball for the final time with
- 8:55Speaker 1: about three minutes to go, ready to snap it on
- 8:57Speaker 1: second down in two in a tightly bunched for me,
- 9:00Speaker 1: Finley back to throw. Good protection. Now the pocket closes
- 9:03Speaker 1: and Bud Dupre knocks the ball away from Ryan Finley.
- 9:07Speaker 1: He's got the football and the Steelers recover. He's at
- 9:11Speaker 1: the twenty one yard line. Finley has got to understand
- 9:15Speaker 1: that you have to have ball security in the pocket.
- 9:19Speaker 1: Every time he gets it in the pocket, it seems
- 9:22Speaker 1: like the ball comes out. Finley has fumbled four times
- 9:25Speaker 1: in three starts. He's completed forty seven percent of his
- 9:29Speaker 1: throws and has a passer rating of sixty two point one.
- 9:34Speaker 1: More importantly, the Bengals are owing three in those games,
- 9:37Speaker 1: scoring thirteen, ten and ten points. They're rowing eleven overall.
- 9:43Speaker 1: After losing to the Steelers sixteen to ten, Laps spend
- 9:47Speaker 1: four minutes with Zach Taylor after the game. Coach, it's
- 9:54Speaker 1: you know, if a frustrating game, obviously you had had chances,
- 9:58Speaker 1: had chances to win this football game, put it away.
- 10:00Speaker 1: I mean, turnovers always end up being a big story
- 10:02Speaker 1: in every football game, and this year. You haven't had
- 10:05Speaker 1: a game where you're plus. You finished the game with
- 10:07Speaker 1: a plus category, you've been even. And I had one
- 10:10Speaker 1: turnover advantage, but in the second half they got a
- 10:13Speaker 1: couple of takeaways and they proved to be a big
- 10:15Speaker 1: difference in the football game, you know it. I mean,
- 10:17Speaker 1: it's we're eleven so far and winning the turnover battle.
- 10:21Speaker 1: You know, we had the big one in the first
- 10:23Speaker 1: half where the defense made a huge play that got
- 10:26Speaker 1: things in the right direction for us. But in the
- 10:27Speaker 1: second half we gave to them away. And that's you're
- 10:29Speaker 1: gonna lose a lot of games in the NFL when
- 10:31Speaker 1: you're playing that way, the game can be so cruel.
- 10:34Speaker 1: Tyler Boyd had a big day. I mean, he had
- 10:36Speaker 1: five catches over one hundred yards and he catches the
- 10:39Speaker 1: football and you know, you have to give Bush credit.
- 10:41Speaker 1: He got beaten, but he stayed after it and Tomahawk
- 10:43Speaker 1: chopped and punched and the ball came out and that
- 10:46Speaker 1: turned into you know, I mean, you had at least
- 10:48Speaker 1: three maybe more, and then you know, Fitzpatrick flips field
- 10:51Speaker 1: position by forty yards. I mean that play was a
- 10:54Speaker 1: big one, wasn't it. It is we got to do
- 10:55Speaker 1: a better job with the Paul security. That's what Steelers
- 10:57Speaker 1: really have made their living on this year is creating turnovers,
- 11:00Speaker 1: defense and flip in the field. And they did a
- 11:03Speaker 1: great job. Credits to them, Ryan Finley. Uh. In terms
- 11:06Speaker 1: of ball security, I mean in the pocket when he
- 11:09Speaker 1: gets hit, seems like the balls and you you had
- 11:11Speaker 1: mentioned it, you know a while back, that he has
- 11:13Speaker 1: to not be as loose with the football when he's
- 11:15Speaker 1: running with it or you know, in the pocket. I mean,
- 11:18Speaker 1: that's a tough lesson that he's learning, isn't it. That's
- 11:20Speaker 1: that's part of quarterback players. You're gonna be strong with
- 11:22Speaker 1: the ball in the pocket and know that when a
- 11:24Speaker 1: play gets extended as long as it goes sometimes they're
- 11:26Speaker 1: gonna be coming after that thing. And they had good addreshers.
- 11:29Speaker 1: I think the pre got the last one from what
- 11:30Speaker 1: I could see. And so those guys have an act
- 11:32Speaker 1: for that kind of stuff and you can't let that
- 11:34Speaker 1: beacha and today it did so Bush. That was the
- 11:38Speaker 1: fifth fumble that that kid's forced. I think he might
- 11:40Speaker 1: be might be leading the National Football League. And like
- 11:42Speaker 1: you mentioned, coming into the game, they were I think
- 11:44Speaker 1: twenty six takeaways, second most in the in the league.
- 11:47Speaker 1: So I mean, and I think I remember that of
- 11:50Speaker 1: the two hundred points they scored as an offense, ninety
- 11:52Speaker 1: four were set up by by defensive plays. And that
- 11:56Speaker 1: was kind of the story of today's game as well.
- 11:58Speaker 1: There was that's that's what they've done all all season.
- 12:00Speaker 1: We talked about it, we knew that was going to
- 12:02Speaker 1: be a big part of the game, and we still
- 12:04Speaker 1: let it come up and bite us. So you got
- 12:07Speaker 1: a young quarterback that you know, hasn't completed fifty percent
- 12:10Speaker 1: of his passes yet and is maybe you know, working
- 12:13Speaker 1: hard to see the field, but not getting it out,
- 12:15Speaker 1: maybe as quickly as he's he hopes he might, and
- 12:18Speaker 1: maybe as you hope he might. How do you how
- 12:20Speaker 1: do you expedite that process? How do you, like, you know,
- 12:22Speaker 1: accelerate that part of his game. Well, it's it's again,
- 12:25Speaker 1: it's on the whole unit. Everyone's got to do their job.
- 12:27Speaker 1: And uh, you know, if we hit that big play
- 12:30Speaker 1: down there, and we have the ball down around the
- 12:32Speaker 1: ten yard line, we score, then we're really not in
- 12:34Speaker 1: a position to where we got to drop back and
- 12:36Speaker 1: have those ball scurty issues. So again, it's it's everyone
- 12:39Speaker 1: just got to do a great job and and help
- 12:41Speaker 1: a young quarterback out and um, we'll get there. So
- 12:45Speaker 1: at this point, eleven losses, six of them now by
- 12:49Speaker 1: a score or less, seven of them by ten points
- 12:51Speaker 1: or less. And it's not like it's not it's not there.
- 12:56Speaker 1: I mean, the possibility of winning football games is there.
- 12:59Speaker 1: It's just getting that that final It's one play. I mean,
- 13:02Speaker 1: it's just getting over that hump with a player two,
- 13:04Speaker 1: just missing that game changing your play, and it can
- 13:06Speaker 1: be in any phase of the game. Um, that's what
- 13:09Speaker 1: we need. We need to step up and someone make
- 13:11Speaker 1: that play in the fourth quarter, and unfortunately today we
- 13:14Speaker 1: weren't able to make that happen. I'm sure you I
- 13:17Speaker 1: always appreciate your carving time with us because I know
- 13:19Speaker 1: you've already had your presser, and I'm sure it was
- 13:21Speaker 1: this question was asked, what's your thought? I know, you
- 13:24Speaker 1: know the game's over, there's emotions and all that, but
- 13:26Speaker 1: your thought at the quarterback position, do you stay with
- 13:28Speaker 1: Ryan Finley? Do you make a change there? What do
- 13:31Speaker 1: you do well? Well, the comment I made was if
- 13:33Speaker 1: you've benched every quarterback, every rookie after three games, and
- 13:35Speaker 1: there'd be no quarterbacks in this league. You know, it's
- 13:38Speaker 1: it's uh. You got to give those time guys a
- 13:40Speaker 1: chance to grow and correct the mistakes and really see
- 13:44Speaker 1: what you got. Your defense two games in a row,
- 13:47Speaker 1: gave up seventeen points, gave up sixteen points in the NFL.
- 13:51Speaker 1: I mean that that's winning play on that side of
- 13:54Speaker 1: the football. You have to be proud of how your
- 13:56Speaker 1: defense has come out. It is, you know, and we
- 13:57Speaker 1: got to match that on the other side of the ball.
- 13:59Speaker 1: You know, we get a big, planing, special team something.
- 14:01Speaker 1: But our defense the last two weeks, I think that
- 14:03Speaker 1: they've done the things that we've asked them to do
- 14:05Speaker 1: and they've given us a chance to win. Before we
- 14:08Speaker 1: get to analysis, let's hear from one more player. Cordy
- 14:12Speaker 1: Glenn was the Bengals left tackle on Sunday, playing for
- 14:15Speaker 1: the first time since Week two of the preseason. Glenn
- 14:19Speaker 1: spent nearly two months in concussion protocol and spoke to
- 14:22Speaker 1: reporters after the game. Or is it meaningful to be
- 14:26Speaker 1: back out there? Cordy? Yeah, it felt good. I mean
- 14:27Speaker 1: I haven't played football and so long. I mean, especially
- 14:30Speaker 1: planning against the Stillers Ashley was fun. I mean, obviously
- 14:33Speaker 1: we didn't win a game, but it felt great to
- 14:35Speaker 1: be back out there, especially when you like, you don't
- 14:37Speaker 1: know which if you could play football or how your
- 14:40Speaker 1: career is gonna go, and it's kind of up and now,
- 14:42Speaker 1: did you think that your career was in jeopardy? I
- 14:45Speaker 1: mean you don't. I mean obviously you don't. I mean
- 14:46Speaker 1: you don't know. I mean, and it was one of
- 14:48Speaker 1: a certain type of injuries. It's kind of like kind
- 14:50Speaker 1: of question everything. So it felt great to be out there. Everybody.
- 14:53Speaker 1: Do you feel like stuff that's been said about you
- 14:57Speaker 1: has been unfair? I don't. I honestly, I really don't
- 15:03Speaker 1: try to read into that and read too much into that.
- 15:05Speaker 1: I mean, stuff is gonna be sad about anybody, good
- 15:08Speaker 1: or bad. I don't know butt end of the day,
- 15:10Speaker 1: Like I can control as with my thoughts are in
- 15:13Speaker 1: my head and that's kind of how I live life.
- 15:17Speaker 1: Have you kind of reached out I let bygones be bygones,
- 15:20Speaker 1: point with you know, teammates, coaches, whatever, where you just
- 15:22Speaker 1: want to kind of move forward from here. Yeah, I
- 15:25Speaker 1: mean it's been like that for a while. I mean
- 15:26Speaker 1: I think, I mean, whatever the internet was, I don't
- 15:29Speaker 1: know how long ago was, I mean, kind of soon's
- 15:32Speaker 1: it happened. I kind of just kind of wanted to
- 15:34Speaker 1: let it go then. But I don't know. It's just
- 15:37Speaker 1: I don't know. I try to just press forward every
- 15:39Speaker 1: day and I don't try to, you know, hold on
- 15:41Speaker 1: the things too long, and just you know, just keep
- 15:43Speaker 1: working and trying to help the team out. It's all
- 15:45Speaker 1: I really think about, not so much, you know, worrying about, Oh,
- 15:51Speaker 1: this happened, so I have to like, you know, just
- 15:52Speaker 1: dragging on, dragging on and just keep it going, just
- 15:54Speaker 1: kind of move forward and just just let it go.
- 15:57Speaker 1: Do you have a year left on your deal? Could
- 15:59Speaker 1: you see yourself thing here? I mean, I can see
- 16:01Speaker 1: a lot of different scenarios. I mean, honestly, I don't know.
- 16:03Speaker 1: I don't know. Honestly, I'm just trying to go out
- 16:05Speaker 1: there and play hard as I can these last couple
- 16:07Speaker 1: of games, and whatever happens happening. I mean, I can't
- 16:10Speaker 1: control that. Difficult has it been for you just to
- 16:12Speaker 1: watch the season play out from the sidelines? I mean,
- 16:15Speaker 1: it's kind of it's I think it's extremely difficult, not
- 16:18Speaker 1: only just watching the season or watching all the games
- 16:20Speaker 1: from the sidelines, just not knowing like what's your future holds,
- 16:23Speaker 1: because you know it's certain type of injuries you can't
- 16:25Speaker 1: really control or you can't really it's not like, oh,
- 16:28Speaker 1: it's it's a four to six week thing. You're just
- 16:30Speaker 1: like you kind of have to you don't know when
- 16:31Speaker 1: you're gonna feel better or whatever. So I mean, it
- 16:33Speaker 1: felt great to be out there today and helping the
- 16:36Speaker 1: team out. Obviously I got to finish it in the game,
- 16:38Speaker 1: but when we fell hard and we know we need
- 16:41Speaker 1: to do and we're real close. I've been closed for
- 16:45Speaker 1: the last two games, but that doesn't mean much when
- 16:49Speaker 1: you've gone three hundred forty three days without a win.
- 16:53Speaker 1: Time for postgame analysis with lap. Bottom line to me
- 16:57Speaker 1: is pretty simple. Today Lap, the defense played well enough
- 17:00Speaker 1: to win. The offense did not. Two weeks in a row,
- 17:03Speaker 1: same story out Noakland. Defense played well enough to win,
- 17:06Speaker 1: offense didn't. Today, defense plays well enough to win, offense
- 17:11Speaker 1: does it. You have a rookie quarterback that's struggling to
- 17:13Speaker 1: get the ball out of his hand in a timely fashion.
- 17:16Speaker 1: One thing you can say about Andy Dalton. You can
- 17:18Speaker 1: criticize a lot of things if you want to, but
- 17:21Speaker 1: never criticize he got the ball out of his hand.
- 17:24Speaker 1: It was always like, oh, he's right there. He's won
- 17:26Speaker 1: two or three in the league in terms of time
- 17:29Speaker 1: from receiving a snap to getting it out of his hand.
- 17:31Speaker 1: I mean, the only guy quicker a lot of times
- 17:33Speaker 1: was Brady so Andy Dalton saw it and get rid
- 17:36Speaker 1: of it. And right now Ryan Finley is struggling in
- 17:40Speaker 1: that area holding onto the football. And I mean the
- 17:43Speaker 1: protection was light years better than it was in Pittsburgh,
- 17:47Speaker 1: There's no question about it. But you know Ryan had
- 17:51Speaker 1: issues holding onto it. And then when he gets hit
- 17:54Speaker 1: holding onto the football, the ball security part of it.
- 17:56Speaker 1: You know, strip sack and fumble recovery by Duke Free
- 18:00Speaker 1: late in the football game, early in the game, t J.
- 18:02Speaker 1: Watt sack, strip, don't don't lose his Bengals recover it.
- 18:06Speaker 1: But those kind of things are killer. You know, you
- 18:09Speaker 1: have to He's had Ryan's had turnovers in every game,
- 18:12Speaker 1: every game. The Scott and report on Ryan Finley coming
- 18:15Speaker 1: out of NC State was that his strengths were anticipation
- 18:18Speaker 1: and accuracy. He's compleating less than fifty percent of his
- 18:22Speaker 1: throws through three starts, and as you mentioned, he isn't
- 18:25Speaker 1: seeing things all that great and is having a hard
- 18:27Speaker 1: time getting the ball out of his hands, you know.
- 18:29Speaker 1: And part of it too is maybe he's seeing it,
- 18:31Speaker 1: but it's not there. You know. It's the same problem
- 18:34Speaker 1: that we've talked about all season long in that there's
- 18:37Speaker 1: no receivers to take the top off a defense, and
- 18:40Speaker 1: everybody is playing everything, you know, in front of them.
- 18:43Speaker 1: I mean, it's nobody. Nobody is challenging them to open
- 18:47Speaker 1: up areas of the football field, so there's tight traffic everywhere.
- 18:50Speaker 1: I mean, his windows a lot of times are not big,
- 18:53Speaker 1: but you know, sometimes he's not putting enough zip on
- 18:57Speaker 1: the football. I mean, there's a myriad of issues. Some
- 19:00Speaker 1: of them come back to him, for sure. Do some
- 19:02Speaker 1: of them come back to his receivers, absolutely at times,
- 19:05Speaker 1: to some come back to the offensive line, no doubt.
- 19:07Speaker 1: Bottom line is it's just not good enough offensively, and
- 19:09Speaker 1: they wasted two winning defensive performances on the back to
- 19:13Speaker 1: back weeks that you just can't waste in the NFL.
- 19:17Speaker 1: You have described to me in the past after the
- 19:19Speaker 1: some of the tough games in your NFL career, you'd
- 19:22Speaker 1: lie in bed at night replaying the game on the ceiling. Essentially,
- 19:27Speaker 1: Tyler Boyd's going to have one of those nights. He's
- 19:30Speaker 1: so upset with himself for that fumble inside the ten
- 19:33Speaker 1: that basically killed the Bengals last good chance. Yeah, he was.
- 19:37Speaker 1: He was about to stand up. As I can recall,
- 19:39Speaker 1: Tyler Boyd is a is a man's man, you know.
- 19:41Speaker 1: I mean, he had five catches for one hundred yards,
- 19:43Speaker 1: so he put him in position. You know, he had
- 19:46Speaker 1: the play where Ryan Finley just you know, Ryan Finnley
- 19:49Speaker 1: said it was an unbelievable play. He wasn't even open.
- 19:52Speaker 1: I just said, Okay, I'm going to give him a
- 19:53Speaker 1: shot and see if he can win. And he won
- 19:55Speaker 1: one on a fifty fifty ball, just on a shoulder pad,
- 19:58Speaker 1: cradling the thing. It was amazing to see. And then
- 20:02Speaker 1: follows it up with a fifteen yard touchdown reception. But
- 20:05Speaker 1: I mean the fumble. You know, you have to give
- 20:07Speaker 1: a linebacker Bush a lot of credit. He was beaten.
- 20:09Speaker 1: You got a wide receiver on a running back. I
- 20:11Speaker 1: don't care if you're a rookie or a twenty year veteran.
- 20:14Speaker 1: That's a matchup you're going to He went to Tyler
- 20:16Speaker 1: Boyd and Bush was beaten, but he said, you know what,
- 20:20Speaker 1: I'm not quitting on it. Tomahawk chop with the right hand,
- 20:23Speaker 1: punch with the left. And that's what the Pittsburgh Steelers
- 20:26Speaker 1: are all about coming into the game ninety four. The
- 20:28Speaker 1: two hundred points by the offense where courtesy of takeaways
- 20:31Speaker 1: by the Steelers defense. They had twenty six coming in.
- 20:34Speaker 1: Now make it twenty eight. I mean, they just take
- 20:36Speaker 1: it away and give the offense opportunity and might make
- 20:40Speaker 1: of Fitzpatrick picks it up and runs on a return
- 20:42Speaker 1: for over forty yards to change field position. Because the
- 20:45Speaker 1: Bengals were in the red zone. They're scoring points. It's
- 20:48Speaker 1: at least three for them, maybe seven, and so you
- 20:52Speaker 1: got a huge swing there. That's just astronomical in a
- 20:55Speaker 1: tight game like this one. Cordy Glenn returned to the
- 20:58Speaker 1: Bengals starting lineup after saying several months in concussion protocol.
- 21:02Speaker 1: How did he do and what did you think of
- 21:04Speaker 1: his postgame comments? Welcome back. I mean it's about time.
- 21:10Speaker 1: And uh, I mean he's the best left tackle they have.
- 21:12Speaker 1: There's no doubt about it. He's mammoth h and he
- 21:15Speaker 1: can move. He's m squared, you know, he's got movement,
- 21:19Speaker 1: and he is a mammoth behemoth, So I mean he's
- 21:22Speaker 1: gonna he's gonna pass protect. Dupree, you know, had a
- 21:26Speaker 1: couple of couple of plays, but he's gonna have a
- 21:28Speaker 1: couple of plays on just about everybody. Again, I think
- 21:31Speaker 1: that has Probably his pass protection was better than his
- 21:33Speaker 1: run run game. Um, he didn't have to worry about
- 21:37Speaker 1: conditioning because they had thirty thousand and three and ounce,
- 21:39Speaker 1: so that wasn't any kind of an issue. It was
- 21:42Speaker 1: literally eight or nine, wasn't it. Three and outs? I
- 21:44Speaker 1: think eight that's mind boggling. So you know, you weren't
- 21:48Speaker 1: gonna you weren't gonna have to worry about endurance, you
- 21:51Speaker 1: know when you're off the field, and three snaps like that. So, um,
- 21:55Speaker 1: I think it's a good starting point. You know, he
- 21:57Speaker 1: talked about finishing, which I think is something that everybody
- 22:01Speaker 1: has to take into consideration. You have to improve in
- 22:04Speaker 1: that area. Obviously finished plays and then finished games. But yeah,
- 22:09Speaker 1: it was interesting in terms of you know, taking so
- 22:14Speaker 1: long to play. I don't know, I just don't know
- 22:18Speaker 1: what to make of it other than you know, I
- 22:20Speaker 1: think in all of his teammates estimation and everybody else.
- 22:23Speaker 1: It was just so long, so long, and he didn't
- 22:27Speaker 1: want to get into the I asked him, was it headaches,
- 22:29Speaker 1: was it dizzyness? Was it balanced? He didn't want to
- 22:32Speaker 1: get into it. So bottom line is he's back, and
- 22:35Speaker 1: they're better at left tackle with Corty Glynn now Ben Roethlisberger.
- 22:39Speaker 1: Mason Rudolph didn't have his helmet taken away by Miles
- 22:42Speaker 1: Garrett today. He had it taken away by his head coach.
- 22:44Speaker 1: He got benched in favor of rookie Devlin Duck Hodges,
- 22:49Speaker 1: and one seventy nine yard touchdown pass was enough for
- 22:52Speaker 1: the Steelers to come into Paul Brown Stadium yet again
- 22:56Speaker 1: and leave town to the win. They've won seven straight
- 22:59Speaker 1: games at Paul Brown Stadium. Tomlin is just Tomlin. No
- 23:05Speaker 1: Ben Rothsburg, but the Pittsburgh Steelers in general, it's Pittsburgh West.
- 23:09Speaker 1: They're more comfortable here at Paul Brown Stadium, and I
- 23:11Speaker 1: think any stadium in the National Football League. It's almost ridiculous.
- 23:16Speaker 1: You know, they've won ten in a row. Now, they've
- 23:19Speaker 1: won thirteen out of fourteen, eighteen out of twenty one.
- 23:23Speaker 1: It's crazy. It's crazy how much they've dominated this series
- 23:27Speaker 1: nineteen and three all time. Here at Paul Brown Stadium.
- 23:32Speaker 1: You are shaking your head. I'm stupefied. Up next a
- 23:37Speaker 1: home game against the Jets. Three weeks ago, when the
- 23:41Speaker 1: Bengals were oo and eight, the Jets were one in seven.
- 23:44Speaker 1: Now New York is four and seven after wins over
- 23:48Speaker 1: the Giants, Redskins, and Raiders. The first two wins were
- 23:53Speaker 1: against weak opponents, but they smoked the six and four
- 23:56Speaker 1: Raiders on Sunday thirty four to three. Oakland's loss and
- 24:01Speaker 1: Pittsburgh's win puts the Steelers back into the sixth and
- 24:05Speaker 1: final playoffs slot in the AFC, at least for now.
- 24:10Speaker 1: Now time for this week's fun facts conversation as we
- 24:12Speaker 1: get to know the person under the pads. This week,
- 24:16Speaker 1: it's a member of last year's draft class. Time for
- 24:19Speaker 1: some fun facts with Bengals defensive lineman Andrew Brown from Chesapeake,
- 24:23Speaker 1: Virginia in the Virginia Beach Norfolk area. Did you grow
- 24:27Speaker 1: up in the city or the country suburbs? It was
- 24:30Speaker 1: like in between, for it wasn't really like necessary the city.
- 24:34Speaker 1: But yeah, what'd you do for fun as a kid
- 24:38Speaker 1: than as a kid play football? For if we realize
- 24:42Speaker 1: that was the only outlet I have beside you know,
- 24:44Speaker 1: ian ice cream and watching TV shows all day. Andrew,
- 24:49Speaker 1: you're a big man now, and you are a big kid.
- 24:52Speaker 1: I've read that the other kids weren't always kind and
- 24:56Speaker 1: and they were. I got picked on a lot growing up,
- 24:58Speaker 1: you know, as if I'd always be in the biggest guy,
- 25:00Speaker 1: you know, I will always go home and cross the
- 25:02Speaker 1: other my mom and stuff like that. It's just funny, man,
- 25:04Speaker 1: because the tables turned one that I actually saw one
- 25:07Speaker 1: of the kids they used to bullying me in high
- 25:08Speaker 1: school my senior year, and I recognized and it was
- 25:13Speaker 1: just crazy how the tables at the turn. He remembered too,
- 25:16Speaker 1: how he used to pickle me back in the day.
- 25:19Speaker 1: So it was funny, man. Did it turn as you
- 25:21Speaker 1: became a star athlete? Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, oh yeah.
- 25:25Speaker 1: Everybody hated me then everybody looked just like that. Crazy
- 25:29Speaker 1: we're doing fun facts with Andrew Brown. You mentioned your
- 25:32Speaker 1: mom and she passed away when you were young. You
- 25:34Speaker 1: were eleven years old when she passed away from cancer.
- 25:37Speaker 1: Did that bring you and your dad close together? But
- 25:40Speaker 1: she had passed away from cardiac arrest. She had half
- 25:42Speaker 1: breast cancer, she was ten years and remission. Yeah, it
- 25:45Speaker 1: was crazy, man, but it definitely affected the family dynamic,
- 25:48Speaker 1: you know when she passed away. But we we dealt
- 25:51Speaker 1: with it and we got closer together. She inspires you
- 25:54Speaker 1: to this thing. Oh yeah, always every day I wake
- 25:56Speaker 1: up in the morning think about it. You wore the
- 25:59Speaker 1: number nine at Virginia as a tribute to her. Correct ye.
- 26:03Speaker 1: Because of December ninth, two thousand and seven, which is
- 26:05Speaker 1: coming up. So as a senior in high school, you
- 26:10Speaker 1: are the National Gatorade High School Football Player of the Year.
- 26:15Speaker 1: And I don't mean the defensive end of the year.
- 26:17Speaker 1: I mean the player of the year. They picked one.
- 26:20Speaker 1: So am At Smith won that, Peyton Manning won that,
- 26:23Speaker 1: Kyler Murray won it the year after you won it.
- 26:27Speaker 1: What was your reaction to that? Is that a blessing
- 26:29Speaker 1: or a burden to just have that kind of spotlight
- 26:32Speaker 1: placed on you. Honestly, I'll always see that as a
- 26:34Speaker 1: blessing because when I was walking the red carpet with
- 26:38Speaker 1: all the famous people like in La you know, I
- 26:41Speaker 1: said the sp Awards like it opened my eyes and
- 26:43Speaker 1: made me realize, like it's a lot to life. And
- 26:48Speaker 1: you know, it definitely made me want to work harder
- 26:50Speaker 1: so that I'd get back to where I was, you know. Yeah,
- 26:53Speaker 1: so as a high school senior you get invited to
- 26:56Speaker 1: the SPS as a result, so you are hobnobbed with
- 27:00Speaker 1: the biggest name in biggest names in sports as a
- 27:03Speaker 1: high school senior. Yeah, it was unreal, Like you saying
- 27:06Speaker 1: all of that, man and seeing the way they lived.
- 27:08Speaker 1: That lifestyle is side of here, where's the trophy at
- 27:15Speaker 1: my pop's house? I got one. They gave me two trophies,
- 27:17Speaker 1: one to keep at the school at my high school
- 27:20Speaker 1: and then wanted my dad's house. Ye. We're doing fun
- 27:23Speaker 1: facts with Andrew Brown. So when you are the national
- 27:26Speaker 1: high school football Player of the Year, naturally you could
- 27:29Speaker 1: go anywhere. You chose Virginia. Why well, mainly because a
- 27:34Speaker 1: lot of the guys from my area was going there
- 27:36Speaker 1: at the time. And then also the number one safety
- 27:40Speaker 1: and college Quinn Blannet. He was the number one in
- 27:42Speaker 1: his position coming out and we were from the same area.
- 27:44Speaker 1: We were all from the same area and stuff like that,
- 27:46Speaker 1: so we figured, you know, why not trying to put
- 27:49Speaker 1: our state on the map. You know, now they're going
- 27:51Speaker 1: to bowl games and stuff like that. Man, so I
- 27:53Speaker 1: feel like we were definitely a part of the foundation
- 27:56Speaker 1: that got things turned around at the school. Doing fun
- 27:59Speaker 1: facts with Andrew Brown. They don't hand you a degree
- 28:02Speaker 1: in Virginia. It's a very prestigious academic institution and you
- 28:06Speaker 1: earned your degree. How did you juggle academics in football? Well, basically,
- 28:11Speaker 1: it's all about time management and what you choose to
- 28:14Speaker 1: do as your time. Some people choose, you know, they
- 28:17Speaker 1: have poor decisions when it comes to that, and I
- 28:19Speaker 1: stayed on top of my education. My grind. Basically, just
- 28:24Speaker 1: be where you're supposed to be and do your work
- 28:26Speaker 1: and that's all. King't field. Man. Did you arrive there
- 28:30Speaker 1: with that attitude or did you develop it over the
- 28:32Speaker 1: course of your college career. I always had, you know,
- 28:34Speaker 1: I had my pops. Man, he was hard on me
- 28:36Speaker 1: growing up. I'll talk about having to clean the whole
- 28:38Speaker 1: house before going to football practice, you know what I'm saying.
- 28:41Speaker 1: So and cut the grad so so we talk about
- 28:45Speaker 1: like some hard old stuff. But yeah, man, I was
- 28:48Speaker 1: very disciplined going into college. Of the things that you've accomplished,
- 28:51Speaker 1: what's made your father proudest? Graduating from college? He says
- 28:55Speaker 1: that to me all the time, like he says, you know,
- 28:58Speaker 1: because I was the first one to do it in
- 28:59Speaker 1: my family. So just for me to be able to
- 29:02Speaker 1: change the tide a little bit, it was cool. So
- 29:05Speaker 1: after a great career of Virginia, you get invited to
- 29:07Speaker 1: the Senior Bowl and you knocked it out of the park.
- 29:10Speaker 1: Scouts started raving about your potential and what they thought
- 29:13Speaker 1: your NFL possibilities might be. Did you sense that in
- 29:17Speaker 1: the moment. Could you tell that these NFL guys with
- 29:20Speaker 1: their notepads were starting to go, oh, who's that guy? Yeah? Yeah,
- 29:24Speaker 1: it was fun. Man, I was turning up out there
- 29:26Speaker 1: because once I started letting loose out there, like I
- 29:28Speaker 1: didn't notice, like the media started to pick us a
- 29:31Speaker 1: little bit more, scouts started to tall the least like
- 29:33Speaker 1: it was cool. And so after that experience, you wound
- 29:36Speaker 1: up being drafted by Cincinnati. Described draft day, man, So
- 29:40Speaker 1: I had a beach house of Virginia, beach right, and
- 29:42Speaker 1: all my family was there, my friends were there. Man,
- 29:45Speaker 1: we was having fun. Man, And when my name got called,
- 29:48Speaker 1: of course the whole house. I was actually in the
- 29:50Speaker 1: shower when my name got called. And could you believe it? Man?
- 29:54Speaker 1: So my name is called the next day, you know,
- 29:56Speaker 1: man celebrating the room, my dad and anything. That night
- 30:01Speaker 1: we went crazy, you know what I'm saying. We had
- 30:03Speaker 1: a good time. So if you're in the shower when
- 30:06Speaker 1: you got packed, did it go to voicemail or were
- 30:08Speaker 1: you able to scramble and stick your hand? I was
- 30:12Speaker 1: able to get the phone and stuff like that. Man,
- 30:14Speaker 1: I was like, oh, man going crazy? All right? A
- 30:18Speaker 1: few nine football topics for Andrew Brown. You are a
- 30:21Speaker 1: budding music producer. Correct, yes, tell us about it. It
- 30:26Speaker 1: all started when my mom and my grandma enrolled me
- 30:29Speaker 1: in piano lessons growing up, and I kind of leaned
- 30:33Speaker 1: away from that as I got more serious with football,
- 30:35Speaker 1: but I incorporated it within the music production which I found,
- 30:39Speaker 1: Like my grandma had bought me this this program called
- 30:43Speaker 1: fl Studio one Christmas, and this was in middle school
- 30:47Speaker 1: and ever since then. Man, I just always was trying
- 30:50Speaker 1: to create new sounds and things like dad was just
- 30:52Speaker 1: always a passion that I had. I was good at
- 30:55Speaker 1: it and once I got more serious, each Christmas, my
- 30:58Speaker 1: dad would buy me a new piece of equip musical
- 31:00Speaker 1: equipment go with it, and um it would definitely be
- 31:04Speaker 1: like out my outlet off the field. You know what
- 31:07Speaker 1: I'm saying, And I love it. Man. So earlier this
- 31:11Speaker 1: year you faced the Buffalo Bills, and I'm doing my
- 31:14Speaker 1: homework on their players, and I read about Cole Beasley
- 31:17Speaker 1: and how he's come out with a hip hop album
- 31:20Speaker 1: and the off season. I had no idea you collaborated.
- 31:23Speaker 1: Oh yeah, man, we still are. We got a lot,
- 31:25Speaker 1: we got a lot of songs coming out, and we're
- 31:28Speaker 1: building our portfolio slowly but surely. So for people interested
- 31:32Speaker 1: in that type of music, tell them about Cole Beasley
- 31:34Speaker 1: and your collaboration. Man, let me tell you something. That
- 31:37Speaker 1: boy can rap, like the way like his melody is
- 31:40Speaker 1: with his tunes too, like when he um starts to
- 31:43Speaker 1: like sing a little bit on the song, as well
- 31:44Speaker 1: as pretty cool too. So I'm excited to see how
- 31:47Speaker 1: this turns out. Man. This project is gonna be big.
- 31:49Speaker 1: So your Twitter handle is Drizzo Beats. Is that the company?
- 31:55Speaker 1: All right? That stand for something else? I guess you
- 31:59Speaker 1: get called it come, but that's gonna be that's mainly
- 32:01Speaker 1: like my name. That's like my producer name. Gotcha. So
- 32:05Speaker 1: that's your jay Z right right right? All right? A
- 32:09Speaker 1: few more fun facts for Andrew Brown if you could
- 32:11Speaker 1: meet anybody in history, athlete, entertainer, politician, famous historical figure, whatever,
- 32:20Speaker 1: who would it be? Warren Buffett? Warren Buffett? For sure?
- 32:25Speaker 1: You want to be rich. I'm wealthy. I'm gonna I
- 32:30Speaker 1: want to talk to Warren Buffett. And would you seek
- 32:34Speaker 1: specific investment advice or just how he thinks? Both? I'll
- 32:39Speaker 1: trying to get the whole fact, like just just lock
- 32:42Speaker 1: in with him for one, like twenty hours. Talked to
- 32:45Speaker 1: him like Picky's brain, you know, see his thought process,
- 32:49Speaker 1: See what moves he makes, why he makes those specific moves,
- 32:52Speaker 1: you know, so gag from him. It's an excellent answer.
- 32:56Speaker 1: Do you have any hidden talents? Hidden talent? I could draw? Really,
- 33:00Speaker 1: I could draw pretty good, man, Yeah, especially realism. So
- 33:05Speaker 1: do you have your own artwork on display at your
