- 0:00Bob and Deb back court side here with associate coach Chris Dalley for the daily
- 0:03recap as the regular season is over. Well took care of business tonight.
- 0:07Yes, we forngratulations on an undefeated big season. Thank you, thank you.
- 0:11I think sometimes, you know, it's sometimes just expected, and I
- 0:18think when you really need to look back at and appreciate what we've done,
- 0:22and especially our older guys because the bulk of the responsibilities on them with so
- 0:27many young players after all the injuries we've had. So really happy and proud
- 0:31of Aliyah, Paige and Nika and the young guys have had to step up
- 0:36in a situation where they really weren't expecting to do that at the beginning.
- 0:39So this one probably is is was a little bit. They're all difficult,
- 0:45but this one was probably a little bit more well earned just because of the
- 0:49situation and the scenario. So happy, really happy, especially proud of our
- 0:54older players. Well, the older players exactly what you said, understand that,
- 0:59because I think, as you said, they just feel like this always
- 1:00expected of them. And then will they young one understand Hey, accomplish it
- 1:04because they're following the lead of the older ones, saying we're supposed to do
- 1:07this. Well, you know, it's interesting. It's not easy to do,
- 1:11to go through any We've just made it look really easy over a long
- 1:15period of time. So whether it's illness, Leah is not feeling well the
- 1:21last couple of days. You know, there's all this stuff that happens during
- 1:23the during the season. You can have a sprain, ankle, You don't
- 1:26you guys don't know everything that occurs. So it's just I think it's it's
- 1:30a good way to end the season. I would rather at the game been
- 1:34at too, but you know, you know, but we'll get a chance
- 1:38to get a couple of days off and regroup and then practice and prepare for
- 1:42the weekend. What can you say that we haven't already said about your two
- 1:46well, your three seniors, Niko with seven more assists tonight, Page and
- 1:49leg getting it done offensively, and I mean Aliah draws so much attention,
- 1:53Paige getting a little more assertive offensively. Defense, what they did. Yeah,
- 1:57the defense just continues to be good. Yeah, it was. It
- 2:00was a really physical game. I thought our I don't know that our defense
- 2:04could have been any better than it was in the first half. They had
- 2:07sixteen points at halftime, and our offense we were moving the ball, we
- 2:12were getting shots. Uh, they're really really physical, so for us to
- 2:15be able to just to you know, they hold and grab and for us
- 2:19just be able to get some movement and get some flow. Got out in
- 2:23transition, which helps. But it was just a you know, it's a
- 2:27typical game here. You know, it's not it's never really been an easy
- 2:30place to play. Never not easy. You know, it's just one of
- 2:37those games. A lot of they seem to respond to it. In the
- 2:39third quarter. It was, you know, we had the lead or whatever,
- 2:43but third quarter, I don't know, KK seemed to really explode and
- 2:46do her role would say, okay, I'm going to give you more,
- 2:50right, And that's what we need. You know, at this point in
- 2:52the season that people are giving us wide open shots and we really need to
- 2:57be able to start knocking those in. We did during the third team game
- 3:00win streak. So we need to start to get on a roll and hopefully
- 3:02we'll be able to do that this week in practice and heading into the Big
- 3:06East Tournament. Chris, how about the steals? I mean, Debbie touched
- 3:09on KK a little bit in the third How about Aleah getting four steals early
- 3:14again. I mean, she's racking those up over the last She's really done
- 3:16a great job because she's you know, she's so athletic and she can use
- 3:21her quickness. She's really started to see those openings and to take advantage of
- 3:25it. I'm still a little hesitant when she goes into not exactly knowing what's
- 3:32going to happen down the other end, but she had a great drive today
- 3:35and she's getting better handling and you know, the ball handling full court and
- 3:39finishing around the room at that At that point, what's her next step in
- 3:44her development? Aliyah? Well, I think a more consistent seventeen foot and
- 3:51then eventually I think she's going to need to add the three point shot.
- 3:54You know, she works on it, but I think a consistency where she
- 3:58feels confident in the in game situations to step up and knock them in and
- 4:02be consistent even with your message. You know, you can't you can't make
- 4:05every every shot and then miss the next five. Like. There has to
- 4:09be a consistency so when you miss, it's like, oh she missed,
- 4:12Like so I think that would be the next step. You see a lot
- 4:15of your former players coaching staff. How do you know you see another with
- 4:20Kylie McLaren down there. How does that feel like no matter where you go
- 4:23around the country, you seem to have that coaching tree coming into play feel
- 4:27old? You're right? Well, yeah, it's always great. You know,
- 4:33Kylie really loves the game and really is a gym rat, follows pros,
- 4:40she knows, you know. She she's will talk to us about recruits
- 4:44or you recruiting this kiddo. She's really you know, that kind of stuff.
- 4:46So she just really loves the game. And I think it's great that
- 4:49she has the opportunity to share that passion with with young players, especially in
- 4:55this program, because they're trying to build it up again, you know that
- 4:58having a first year head coach. Uh. And they won some games this
- 5:01year that they probably weren't expected to win and and certainly Aaron has done a
- 5:06good job and her staff. Can you might see them again next weekend?
- 5:11Oh? Really? Yeah? I didn't look at that Providence or Butler.
- 5:15Oh wow, well, Butler seems because we played them so early, it's
- 5:18almost like we haven't we haven't seen them in a long time. Yeah,
- 5:20they're playing a lot better. I thought they'd be. They lost today,
- 5:25didn't they lose? Yeah, they lost Marquette I think at home. Yeah,
- 5:30yeah, they got it. They got I shouldn't speak. That's a
- 5:33professional term. Case. Well tomorrow, profession Well on the on the topic
- 5:40of conference championships, the guys go for the double tomorrow, first time in
- 5:43a long time if they close it out tomorrow, so I wish them all
- 5:46the best, yeah, Chris, all right, Well, see you next
- 5:47weekend. Thanks you as always,
