- 1:26Speaker 3: Bound Straight funk with you as we're we're summering. I
- 1:31Speaker 3: just want y'all to know that, Uh. I spent two
- 1:35Speaker 3: nights on the Mississippi Gulf coast last week. Had a
- 1:40Speaker 3: good time. I went to the newest steakhouse on the
- 1:43Speaker 3: coast in Harris. It's called Coast Chop House. Insane phenomenal Riba,
- 1:53Speaker 3: pork belly, unbelievable bourbons.
- 1:56Speaker 2: It's just great.
- 1:57Speaker 3: But it was good to see some some of the
- 1:59Speaker 3: good people down there.
- 2:01Speaker 2: You'd be proud of me.
- 2:04Speaker 3: I actually, I mean, look, we had a client down there, bendor,
- 2:11Speaker 3: you know, vendors tied End. Actually went out to the
- 2:14Speaker 3: pool Thursday afternoon. All right, I did.
- 2:19Speaker 2: Did you?
- 2:20Speaker 3: I mean, what are you dressed in press? Or were
- 2:21Speaker 3: you just going to scout? Well, I mean I had
- 2:24Speaker 3: on swim trunks. I had on swim trunks and a
- 2:27Speaker 3: T shirt, my hat backwards, That's what I'm talking about.
- 2:29Speaker 2: Yeah, so you went to the pool. Yeah.
- 2:32Speaker 3: So at first it was it was five of us,
- 2:35Speaker 3: but not everybody was there. We had people driving in
- 2:38Speaker 3: from New Orleans, Baton Rouge and fair Hope, and then
- 2:44Speaker 3: two of us were from Jackson, but in separate cars
- 2:46Speaker 3: because I went down to night early to visit with
- 2:48Speaker 3: some other people, and.
- 2:52Speaker 2: So I met Mick Gillespie.
- 2:54Speaker 3: Yeah, okay, number one Bama Tailgate show, his Chicago Cubs
- 3:00Speaker 3: show that he does every day, has had, has done,
- 3:05Speaker 3: did five hundred and eighty seven thousand views in the
- 3:07Speaker 3: month of June. So Mick Gillespie and I got there early,
- 3:12Speaker 3: and you know, it's been a long time since I've
- 3:14Speaker 3: been out to the Bow or the hard Rock Pool. Now,
- 3:17Speaker 3: I've done shows from the hard Rock Pool and maybe
- 3:21Speaker 3: the Bow. I've done shows from the Bow, but I
- 3:22Speaker 3: don't remember if I've been at the pool anyway. Uh,
- 3:25Speaker 3: the dude from bat Rouge had runted us this, you know,
- 3:28Speaker 3: chairs and umbrella.
- 3:30Speaker 2: Right by the pool, which I didn't know. That was cool.
- 3:32Speaker 3: Well, we went to the bar. It's covered, I mean
- 3:35Speaker 3: it's shade. We got yeah, and it was It was
- 3:40Speaker 3: great because we got to eat a burger catch up
- 3:45Speaker 3: for the first time in months, and it felt great underneath.
- 3:49Speaker 3: I mean it was actually super shade. Yeah, you're right
- 3:53Speaker 3: on the ocean. I guess there was a little breeze,
- 3:55Speaker 3: but I don't usually do that and show. But we
- 4:00Speaker 3: hung out at the pool for a couple hours. Average
- 4:02Speaker 3: age was probably sixty nice.
- 4:08Speaker 2: Sixty. There was a Mississippi Bar.
- 4:12Speaker 3: Conference or convention, so I guess there are a bunch
- 4:15Speaker 3: of attorneys just in case I needed any kind of
- 4:17Speaker 3: legal advice while I was there.
- 4:22Speaker 2: But no, I mean, you never know, you don't ever know.
- 4:27Speaker 3: Well, I ran into a friend I was going over
- 4:29Speaker 3: to get another towel, and I saw a buddy of mine.
- 4:32Speaker 3: I was like, what are you doing here? He was like,
- 4:34Speaker 3: I'm here for the bar thing. I went, oh, that's
- 4:36Speaker 3: that's cool. See I were in out there at the
- 4:39Speaker 3: essentially are at the Copa Cabana. Yeah, how about that
- 4:43Speaker 3: Barry Man, Well, a wonderful song. It's it is a
- 4:47Speaker 3: good song. Show is brought to you by the Bonin
- 4:51Speaker 3: Rabbi medium Rare at Kessler Prime in the Renaissance Parrot
- 4:54Speaker 3: with a Tito's Espresso Martini or an Elijah Craig Manhattan,
- 5:02Speaker 3: absolutely delicious Kesslerprime dot Com to make a reservation.
- 5:06Speaker 2: So what do you think about that? Can you believe?
- 5:07Speaker 3: I went to the pool and just chilled out sipping
- 5:11Speaker 3: on a michelob Ultra with somebody.
- 5:13Speaker 2: How long two hours I was there?
- 5:17Speaker 3: There's not a chance I need video proof two hours
- 5:21Speaker 3: two hours doing what?
- 5:24Speaker 2: Just just just bro I was just.
- 5:25Speaker 3: Standing in the pool talking, well, one of them is
- 5:31Speaker 3: our biggest client but also a very good friend. Sure,
- 5:34Speaker 3: the others I work with in other way of shape
- 5:37Speaker 3: and forms.
- 5:38Speaker 2: That's what I'm talking about.
- 5:39Speaker 3: It was great, but we're all we've all traveled together
- 5:43Speaker 3: and we went to Vegas together last year.
- 5:46Speaker 2: Jake Coker was there. Yeah, Bama champion.
- 5:49Speaker 3: He thinks you're crazy, he thinks you're nuts.
- 5:55Speaker 2: Uh Coker.
- 5:56Speaker 3: Coker is a good dude. And you know I went
- 6:02Speaker 3: to Coast chop House Wednesday night, be our prime and
- 6:05Speaker 3: one of them paid for it.
- 6:06Speaker 2: Thursday night. Yeah, that was great. We had some wine,
- 6:11Speaker 2: Luca Sarah. The price spectacular color? Was it what? I
- 6:22Speaker 2: didn't know if it was a white wine? Red wine?
- 6:26Speaker 2: Of course? Yeah.
- 6:28Speaker 3: Mister d X says Bo put on his Olympic trunks.
- 6:32Speaker 3: Did you hashtag on a heater?
- 6:33Speaker 2: Were you red? White? Blued?
- 6:35Speaker 1: No?
- 6:35Speaker 3: Okay, Uh, I just had on whatever. Wendy bought me
- 6:41Speaker 3: some swim trunks. Yeah, swim suits in the group, you know,
- 6:49Speaker 3: not in our group. I didn't even see a speedo
- 6:52Speaker 3: at the pool. I don't think now, don't hold me
- 6:56Speaker 3: to that, but I did. You know what the lady,
- 7:02Speaker 3: our cocktail waitress at the pool, who was really nice,
- 7:08Speaker 3: she told us that she walks thirteen so sixteen yeah,
- 7:15Speaker 3: thirteen to sixteen thousand steps a day as as a
- 7:20Speaker 3: pull cocktail waitress on the Mississippi Gulf coast.
- 7:23Speaker 2: And let me tell you, she looked fit. Yeah, I
- 7:26Speaker 2: bet okay, voice, look at that many steps today? She
- 7:31Speaker 2: you know, moving, She looked fit. Does that count?
- 7:34Speaker 3: But think about that if you do five ships a week.
- 7:36Speaker 3: Oh yeah, that's not dude, that's some steps. Brother, Yeah,
- 7:43Speaker 3: that's serious. That's moving and shaken. Right, So does that
- 7:46Speaker 3: count for you?
- 7:46Speaker 2: I mean were you? Were you grounding at that point?
- 7:49Speaker 3: Not in the pool. I was in the lake yesterday
- 7:52Speaker 3: and I was grounding. I was in the lake on
- 7:54Speaker 3: Sunday and I was grounding. Okay, because pools are stationary,
- 7:58Speaker 3: that's right, gotcha our As far as far as I know,
- 8:01Speaker 3: I wasn't thinking that I was grounding.
- 8:02Speaker 2: If I was, great, okay, all right?
- 8:04Speaker 3: Yeah, order if I make a bunch of waves in
- 8:06Speaker 3: the pool, then I would have to ask someone I
- 8:10Speaker 3: need to know.
- 8:10Speaker 2: Yeah, stationary water, but lakes, oceans, rivers with moving water.
- 8:16Speaker 3: Yes, it's bar two. Gonna be an hospeedo in. This
- 8:19Speaker 3: guy's a falls shrip. I hadn't thought about that. He's
- 8:25Speaker 3: probably not, but I do need to remind him. I'm
- 8:28Speaker 3: glad you for our listeners. Dave Bartwo's coming in town.
- 8:32Speaker 3: Oh my god, next week. I gotta get ready for that. Lord,
- 8:36Speaker 3: I'm going up to prep it for you.
- 8:38Speaker 2: Okay, So Bar two will be with us Monday.
- 8:43Speaker 3: He won't be on Monday, but he's coming in later
- 8:45Speaker 3: and we're doing a show, if that makes sense. So's
- 8:48Speaker 3: he's taking a red eye. I think he'll be here
- 8:49Speaker 3: at like nine a m. By the time he gets
- 8:52Speaker 3: over here probably eleven am. We're gonna do an hour
- 8:56Speaker 3: or so of YouTube. Out of Bound Sports is the
- 9:00Speaker 3: YouTube channel, and then and then we will do the
- 9:06Speaker 3: studio I'm sorry, the show in studio on Tuesday morning
- 9:10Speaker 3: because I'm taking him to dinner with some people Monday night,
- 9:13Speaker 3: So studio Tuesday morning, then we'll go to Pearl River Resort.
- 9:17Speaker 3: We'll do a show that afternoon on YouTube, and then
- 9:22Speaker 3: Wednesday morning will do the full meal deal either in
- 9:26Speaker 3: the Sports Book or Dancing Rabbit Golf Club with Bar two.
- 9:29Speaker 3: So total it's going to be every bit of about
- 9:33Speaker 3: eight hours of Bar two. All right, we'll be back
- 9:36Speaker 3: in a second, Love you.
- 10:28Speaker 2: Why is there air every single morning in the shower?
- 10:35Speaker 2: You know?
- 10:36Speaker 3: Out of bounds ESPN one oh five down the zone.
- 10:41Speaker 1: If a wise man had a dove in his pocket
- 10:44Speaker 1: and uh a rock in his hand, uh, you know
- 10:47Speaker 1: where's the bullfrog.
- 10:50Speaker 3: At You know, this is a question that we're we're
- 10:55Speaker 3: we continue to seek right on the journey of trying
- 11:00Speaker 3: to figure this out. All hell, Mike Leach, God, he
- 11:04Speaker 3: would win big in this era. He'd beat lethal in
- 11:10Speaker 3: this era, especially once he decided to that he was
- 11:14Speaker 3: open to a dual threat quarterback. I mean, good grief,
- 11:19Speaker 3: I mean, just think about it. I mean, he was
- 11:22Speaker 3: putting up crazy numbers and beating people at Texas Tech,
- 11:25Speaker 3: Washington State, Mississippi State with quarterbacks or statues. Can you
- 11:29Speaker 3: imagine some guy with some wiggle Oh my goodness, gracious,
- 11:34Speaker 3: do you imagine Mike Leach or Dan Mullen with Kmaro Taylor.
- 11:39Speaker 3: Mike obviously, oh, you know this new he had been
- 11:42Speaker 3: talked to. I guess the last twelve months, eighteen months
- 11:45Speaker 3: he was alive. Maybe longer as far as the dual
- 11:50Speaker 3: threat thing. But can you imagine if if Dan Mullen,
- 11:55Speaker 3: Mike Leach or good Lord Lane Kiffin had Camaro Taylor filthy,
- 12:01Speaker 3: absolutely filthy Kendall brows. Uh, there's there's some others out there,
- 12:09Speaker 3: probably be eerily similar to the uh everyone that's using
- 12:13Speaker 3: him on the freaking college football game that came out
- 12:16Speaker 3: over the weekend. Oh yeah, so we did did did
- 12:18Speaker 3: that drop on Friday or Saturday eighth whatever?
- 12:21Speaker 2: The eighth was? Okay, so about five days ago.
- 12:23Speaker 3: Yes, I got it that and it is uh you know,
- 12:27Speaker 3: I told you the other day that people would they
- 12:29Speaker 3: were going to use all miss and use old miss
- 12:31Speaker 3: and use old miss and use Trinidad. Well it looks
- 12:33Speaker 3: like they found Kemio. People are using them all over now.
- 12:38Speaker 2: Really.
- 12:38Speaker 3: Oh yeah, him off there there's run pass options the
- 12:41Speaker 3: whole way through. You know, well, this is the best
- 12:44Speaker 3: duo you've had since Nick Fitzgerald and uh airs William
- 12:48Speaker 3: Slash Colin behind him, which was a very successful and
- 12:53Speaker 3: you know, potent uh duo, very very talented. So yeah,
- 12:59Speaker 3: you actually have a talented combo duo of Camaro, Taylor
- 13:04Speaker 3: and Fluff Bothwell, everybody's asking about the offensive line. Nobody knows,
- 13:09Speaker 3: well maybe the coaching staff, who knows what they know.
- 13:13Speaker 3: But when you if they're just serviceable, Camrio and Fluff
- 13:21Speaker 3: will make them good enough. And I'm talking about the
- 13:24Speaker 3: O line. If the O line's just serviceable, you know,
- 13:27Speaker 3: you got Javin James who played left tackle for you
- 13:30Speaker 3: and didn't look good. Last year and Alabama picked him
- 13:32Speaker 3: up and moved a freshman All American right tackle to
- 13:38Speaker 3: right guard so that they could put Javin James in
- 13:42Speaker 3: at right tackle. And he's going to start at Alabama.
- 13:48Speaker 3: You know this, This is going to be interesting to
- 13:51Speaker 3: see what Phil Loadholt can do. You know, who's not
- 13:57Speaker 3: an x's and o's technical fundamental, you know, guy.
- 14:02Speaker 2: Now, look, man, if you had and I know.
- 14:04Speaker 3: He was crazy, but if you had John Hevesey, he
- 14:09Speaker 3: could get And I don't even know how much talent
- 14:11Speaker 3: it is, and I don't think anybody can with the
- 14:13Speaker 3: portal because you're trying to assess people who are coming
- 14:17Speaker 3: in and never played for you and so on. But
- 14:22Speaker 3: if you gave John Hevesey this group of guys, you know,
- 14:26Speaker 3: he could get every ounce of talent out of them.
- 14:29Speaker 2: So could Matt Luke.
- 14:30Speaker 3: And those are two of the best offensive line Pete
- 14:32Speaker 3: Jenkins obviously came through with Jackie Sheryl. That was before
- 14:36Speaker 3: we ever even thought about talking about the value of
- 14:40Speaker 3: assistant coaches. For the most part, you know, we didn't
- 14:46Speaker 3: talk play calling all the time. OC's DC's and nobody
- 14:50Speaker 3: could run any numbers on them like Bartwo's been able
- 14:53Speaker 3: to do so. And the bandy guys just run stats.
- 14:58Speaker 3: So I can do that on Claude. But the and
- 15:05Speaker 3: I'm talking about their firm that they have that they
- 15:07Speaker 3: claim to be an analytics firm. That's a stats firm.
- 15:09Speaker 3: That's different. We all know that, right, analytics stats.
- 15:11Speaker 2: But you know, Jackson, that's.
- 15:19Speaker 3: You think about if you had just a middle if
- 15:22Speaker 3: you just had a middle of the league offensive line
- 15:25Speaker 3: coach again, because really you got your top ones and
- 15:29Speaker 3: then you've got a bunch of guys in the middle
- 15:31Speaker 3: that could go either way, you know, that are like
- 15:35Speaker 3: pretty good to good, and then you got the bottom
- 15:39Speaker 3: you know group that are not. You know, that's where
- 15:41Speaker 3: load Holt would be. You'd be in the bottom three. However,
- 15:48Speaker 3: has he or Levy or someone found the magic to
- 15:50Speaker 3: get every ounce of UH production and talent extract from
- 15:57Speaker 3: this group collectively of let's just say you're gonna pla guys.
- 16:01Speaker 3: I'm sure you'd love to play nine, but I don't
- 16:03Speaker 3: know if Mississippi State has nine legit guys that can play.
- 16:06Speaker 2: I don't know if they have five.
- 16:07Speaker 3: But anyway, the point is, man, if you just had
- 16:11Speaker 3: like a number eight, nine, ten, eleven, offensive line coach
- 16:15Speaker 3: in the league. Then what would what would you be
- 16:18Speaker 3: working with? Knowing that you've got a six foot four
- 16:20Speaker 3: to two hundred and thirty pound quarterback and a six
- 16:24Speaker 3: foot one ish two hundred and twenty five two hundred
- 16:27Speaker 3: and thirty pound bruiser at tailback who went healthy.
- 16:30Speaker 2: Is damn good? What? Wow?
- 16:35Speaker 3: What would that look like for Mississippi State football? And
- 16:39Speaker 3: then the defensive line, we'll see you know, you know
- 16:43Speaker 3: that LSU and Georgia and Ole Miss in Texas and
- 16:47Speaker 3: Texas A and M and Bama are going to be
- 16:50Speaker 3: more than serviceable on both sides. Now, some of them
- 16:53Speaker 3: will have better on this side or this side or whatever,
- 16:56Speaker 3: and some will avoid injury and some will not. But
- 17:00Speaker 3: the other teams were asking the question, and I think
- 17:04Speaker 3: Florida is going to make a jump and they're going
- 17:07Speaker 3: to be they could be a handful of Look, they
- 17:12Speaker 3: basically have two defensive coordinators on their staff. One's the
- 17:15Speaker 3: head coach and John summerl and one's his good friend
- 17:18Speaker 3: Brad White, who was incredible at Kentucky with no help
- 17:23Speaker 3: on the offensive side of the ball. But I think
- 17:26Speaker 3: that's something that everybody is trying to do. I heard
- 17:29Speaker 3: Steve Sarkisian talk yesterday about how disappointed he was and
- 17:35Speaker 3: here they are Texas, how disappointed he was in their
- 17:41Speaker 3: offensive line to start the year, especially the first six
- 17:44Speaker 3: or seven games. You know, He's like, we weren't prepared,
- 17:47Speaker 3: We didn't have the personnel we thought we did. Arch
- 17:50Speaker 3: had to run for his life. Then we got some
- 17:52Speaker 3: things settled. Looked pretty good down the stretch the last
- 17:55Speaker 3: five games of the year. So so we'll see what
- 18:02Speaker 3: you got. They have got the I mean, yes, what
- 18:06Speaker 3: it would look like, well, I mean it would look
- 18:08Speaker 3: like Camrio would look a little RG three ish well
- 18:13Speaker 3: or even bet RGI three is a small guy, you know,
- 18:16Speaker 3: but he wasn't a big kid, still not. I mean
- 18:20Speaker 3: he was actually really light. I mean, Camrio is six four,
- 18:23Speaker 3: two thirty. He's a monster, and he is still this fast.
- 18:27Speaker 3: Because I told you I saw him during baseball. I
- 18:31Speaker 3: don't remember which game because it runs together, but I
- 18:34Speaker 3: saw him at Duty Noble. He is a large, large
- 18:38Speaker 3: human being. Yeah RG three, no six three fifteen like, no, no,
- 18:43Speaker 3: he's not.
- 18:43Speaker 2: He's six to one. I mean, but it was.
- 18:47Speaker 3: I can still see him in the Redskins uniform or
- 18:50Speaker 3: command whatever he's not big, he doesn't have a big
- 18:54Speaker 3: you know, you want the Peyton Manning, you know, Tom Brady,
- 18:59Speaker 3: cam Newton. You want big lags, big trunk. Remember the
- 19:05Speaker 3: book QB by Feldman where Trent dilfer Ran he ran
- 19:10Speaker 3: the numbers on every single NFL quarterback from the nineteen
- 19:13Speaker 3: eighty three Lway, Marino, Todd Blackledge, so on, draft on,
- 19:19Speaker 3: and the.
- 19:19Speaker 2: Proof was in the pudding.
- 19:20Speaker 3: You better have a big blank yeah, and some big
- 19:23Speaker 3: lags so that you can take some big hits. There
- 19:26Speaker 3: are exceptions. Drew was amazing. I mean he stayed healthy
- 19:30Speaker 3: for the most most of the time. Remarkable. Yeah, he's
- 19:34Speaker 3: not big, but he was a little thick for his size. Yeah,
- 19:39Speaker 3: but tiny compared to the guys I just talked about.
- 19:42Speaker 2: I mean Jake Cocher, he's huge. Boy. Back in a second.
- 20:28Speaker 3: Hey, Hey, here we go out of bounds ESPN one
- 20:31Speaker 3: oh five nine the Zone. We're live in the Bank
- 20:36Speaker 3: Plus Studio and the show is brought to you byes
- 20:41Speaker 3: Balone Tequila. Excited to have them in the house and
- 20:45Speaker 3: try their reposado. It's delicious and of course you can
- 20:48Speaker 3: make top shelf Margarita's with s Balone blocko or reposado.
- 20:55Speaker 3: You can find it at your local wanted spirit shop,
- 20:57Speaker 3: including rain Sellars in Flora right by Flora Butcher. Great
- 21:02Speaker 3: selection of steaks and seafood, and they had the Saladays
- 21:07Speaker 3: salad which is Mississippi. It's great, healthy and so Flora
- 21:13Speaker 3: Butcher and Ripe sated his rain sellers. They have Espaalone tequila,
- 21:17Speaker 3: Elijah Craig Bourbon, and of course, of course they have
- 21:20Speaker 3: Tito's one five to nine The Zone ESPN. I'm your host,
- 21:24Speaker 3: Bo bounds with straight funk. We did get into a
- 21:27Speaker 3: little football there, well, I guess we did. In the
- 21:29Speaker 3: seven thirty segment, we just talked to Michigan football and
- 21:34Speaker 3: the fact that they're firing their ad this week, kind
- 21:38Speaker 3: of coming off the Sharon More scandal last year. For
- 21:40Speaker 3: those of you who may not have kept up with
- 21:42Speaker 3: Michigan football after Harball left, which I get it, just
- 21:45Speaker 3: because he was one of the most polarizing guy. In fact,
- 21:47Speaker 3: he was the most polarizing until leaving, and then Lane
- 21:50Speaker 3: became the most polarizing football coach in college football.
- 21:54Speaker 2: Right.
- 21:55Speaker 3: Whatever Harball did, we were like eyeballs and he didn't
- 21:58Speaker 3: even tweet like he just well he was at a
- 22:01Speaker 3: huge brand. I mean he could just beat Jim Harball.
- 22:04Speaker 3: But whatever he said and whatever he did, whether it
- 22:07Speaker 3: was running camps here ten years ago, coming down to Pearl,
- 22:11Speaker 3: Mississippi and making the sec Matt and finding any in
- 22:14Speaker 3: every loophole he could to find a way to get
- 22:17Speaker 3: better players to Michigan because of what he inherited. But
- 22:22Speaker 3: Harball was the most polarizing for a long stretch of time,
- 22:27Speaker 3: and then and then Lane was.
- 22:30Speaker 2: Was there anybody in between? I don't think so Harball
- 22:32Speaker 2: and Lane. I mean, Dabo does his thing.
- 22:36Speaker 3: He rubs a lot of people wrong, and the surpy, sappy,
- 22:40Speaker 3: preachy stuff really greats on people, and then some people
- 22:44Speaker 3: like it. Saban, you know, was Saban polarizing? Yeah, but
- 22:55Speaker 3: not in the way that I'm talking about Harball and Lane. No,
- 22:59Speaker 3: Saban was just hard charging. I'm gonna do it, you know,
- 23:03Speaker 3: we're I'm gonna do it the way I want to
- 23:05Speaker 3: do it. Get out of my way. I'm Nick Saban.
- 23:10Speaker 3: You know, I work eighteen hours a day and I
- 23:14Speaker 3: ate the same turkey salad every day because I can't
- 23:18Speaker 3: even think about thinking about ordering something for ten seconds
- 23:22Speaker 3: he did. I mean, I remember reading the Tom Dean
- 23:26Speaker 3: Hart article Turkey salad every day.
- 23:30Speaker 2: If there was.
- 23:31Speaker 3: Look, football sports is very rigid and militaristic. We all
- 23:37Speaker 3: know that, right, I mean it is, it is in fact,
- 23:41Speaker 3: you you know, that's how they got that's how it
- 23:45Speaker 3: got created, so to speak. Right, I mean, coaches starting
- 23:50Speaker 3: in the World War One era took what generals and
- 23:56Speaker 3: majors and so on did in the military and in
- 23:59Speaker 3: corporate that kind of rigid, regimented schedule for young men
- 24:05Speaker 3: who quite frankly need that kind of discipline and structure
- 24:12Speaker 3: to show up every day and get things done at
- 24:13Speaker 3: nineteen twenty years old. And then in World War Two
- 24:17Speaker 3: we even doubled down on the very militaristic, regimented you know, rigid,
- 24:25Speaker 3: I mean they tell It's why some student athletes have
- 24:28Speaker 3: a hard time transitioning out for a minute into the
- 24:32Speaker 3: working world, depending on where what direction they go. And
- 24:36Speaker 3: the same thing with military entering into the private sector
- 24:39Speaker 3: is because you are told where to be every single
- 24:42Speaker 3: second of the day. And then if you have flexibility
- 24:46Speaker 3: in the private sector, you know you have to adjust
- 24:49Speaker 3: and adapt. Somebody's not saying you have to be here
- 24:51Speaker 3: at six oh four am. And then we'll get you
- 24:54Speaker 3: for forty five minutes, and then you're going to go
- 24:55Speaker 3: somewhere else, and you'll be somewhere else at seven oh
- 24:57Speaker 3: two am, and then you're going somewhere else. You know,
- 25:00Speaker 3: I mean it's you know what breakfast is this time? Everything?
- 25:07Speaker 3: Does that make sense?
- 25:08Speaker 2: Yes? Anyway, I went.
- 25:11Speaker 3: From Harball and Lane Kiffen and Saban being polarizing in
- 25:16Speaker 3: their own ways to talking about the military.
- 25:20Speaker 2: Was that weird?
- 25:20Speaker 4: No?
- 25:21Speaker 2: I mean it's it's all intertwined. Okay, yeah, all right,
- 25:25Speaker 2: Well let's just do this again because somebody requested it.
- 25:28Speaker 2: Why is there air? I knew y'all would like that.
- 25:31Speaker 2: Mike Leach said that in here this This was his
- 25:34Speaker 2: line in here.
- 25:35Speaker 1: If a wise man had a dove in his pocket
- 25:38Speaker 1: and uh a rock in his hand, you know, where's
- 25:42Speaker 1: the bullfrog?
- 25:44Speaker 3: That somehow? That's what Mike. That was Mike's answer when
- 25:47Speaker 3: I asked him about Dave Randa, who do I don't know?
- 25:52Speaker 3: We are the out of Bounds Show one O five nine,
- 25:54Speaker 3: The Zone ESPN chicken, fried chicken, blue plate, burgers, blues
- 25:58Speaker 3: barbecue dog, would flow would smash burgers, dirty bird, rap
- 26:04Speaker 3: get it with fried chicken, not grilled dirty bird rap,
- 26:07Speaker 3: get some onion rings, throw a party, fried pickles, Burgers,
- 26:11Speaker 3: blues barbecue. Order lunch for the office today. B three dogwood,
- 26:15Speaker 3: flowwood Sun. Devil Macy is on the Dancing Rabbit golf
- 26:19Speaker 3: text line I love the what why is their air clip?
- 26:25Speaker 2: Love it? Well?
- 26:27Speaker 3: It's awesome. I wish I need to go back and
- 26:33Speaker 3: get even more cut ups from Leech.
- 26:36Speaker 2: Don't do it anymore?
- 26:39Speaker 3: Oh goodness, I love him. Can you imagine he would
- 26:43Speaker 3: be winning and winning and winning and winning wherever he
- 26:48Speaker 3: was in the SEC in this new era of water
- 26:50Speaker 3: down college football?
- 26:53Speaker 2: All right? Do we want to go?
- 26:54Speaker 3: Kurt Signetti speaking of the national championship? Coach Lane Kiffin
- 26:58Speaker 3: did not win the national championship last year. I know
- 27:00Speaker 3: we stole all the headlines, but Kurt Signetti won the net.
- 27:09Speaker 3: How many times have you all? Because I'll do this
- 27:11Speaker 3: every now and then, maybe because I'm in the business
- 27:12Speaker 3: and I talked to myself, I will say out loud,
- 27:16Speaker 3: Kurt Signetti and Indiana won the national championship in football?
- 27:22Speaker 2: Have you said that out loud?
- 27:23Speaker 3: Have you like written it down and looked at it,
- 27:26Speaker 3: which they say, that's what we need to do? Kurt Signetti,
- 27:30Speaker 3: head football coach at Indiana, the worst power for program
- 27:36Speaker 3: in the country, won the national championship last year by
- 27:43Speaker 3: going undefeated.
- 27:44Speaker 2: And on the way.
- 27:47Speaker 3: Blew out the Alabama Crimson Tide, the number one college
- 27:52Speaker 3: football program in the history of not the best, I mean,
- 27:57Speaker 3: not the best place to win. Okay, the easiest path
- 28:01Speaker 3: is places like LSU, Georgia and Ohio State. But the
- 28:04Speaker 3: number one college football program of all time because of
- 28:08Speaker 3: their willpower and commitment quotion, Alabama. They blew their doors
- 28:14Speaker 3: off in the Rose Bowl. Former Alabama assistant coach Kurt Signetti,
- 28:20Speaker 3: who none of us knew when he was there because
- 28:22Speaker 3: there was too many other stars under Saban as far
- 28:26Speaker 3: as coordinators that were going through. And really the first
- 28:30Speaker 3: star coordinator was a little bit of Jim mcelwayne. But
- 28:36Speaker 3: then Kirby, you know, a few years in the Saban's
- 28:41Speaker 3: tenure and before Kirby goes to his alma mater in Georgia.
- 28:46Speaker 2: Yeah, because mcwayne got caught up with that shark.
- 28:48Speaker 3: Well, I don't know what happened at Florida, but you're right,
- 28:53Speaker 3: he did get caught up with a shark in Florida
- 28:57Speaker 3: and Dan Mullen replaced him and actually a great job
- 29:01Speaker 3: at ninety percent of the time. But anyway, the point is,
- 29:04Speaker 3: let's we've got some Kurt Signetti. This is he talks
- 29:08Speaker 3: about on why he left Alabama. Okay, and I did
- 29:12Speaker 3: not know who he was until bar two threw his
- 29:15Speaker 3: name out six seven years ago when he was at
- 29:17Speaker 3: James Madison. But this is Kurt Signetti explaining why he
- 29:22Speaker 3: went from Bama to Division two head coach.
- 29:25Speaker 4: You make a big decision to leave coach sabans Alabama
- 29:29Speaker 4: staff to take a head coaching job and then go
- 29:31Speaker 4: down to the Division two level. What was it that
- 29:33Speaker 4: made you confident in yourself that hey, it's time to
- 29:36Speaker 4: do better myself, go down a level and take a
- 29:38Speaker 4: head coaching job.
- 29:39Speaker 5: I just had to be a head coach. I didn't
- 29:41Speaker 5: want to finish up as a career assistant. It was
- 29:43Speaker 5: a nonprecedented move, and I know that it was a
- 29:45Speaker 5: lifestyle change at the time too. I was enjoying life
- 29:48Speaker 5: in Indiana, PA and won a lot of games, and
- 29:50Speaker 5: near the end, I felt like I had a couple
- 29:52Speaker 5: of national championship teams ready to go, and then Elon called.
- 29:55Speaker 5: Nobody thought you could win there and their track record
- 29:57Speaker 5: worse than Indiana, and we rattle off eight in a
- 29:59Speaker 5: row and beat JMU the next year up at JMUT
- 30:02Speaker 5: and then took the JMU job. That job was winner,
- 30:04Speaker 5: but we improved him by six games year one. So
- 30:07Speaker 5: year one we've always had big ton rounds and I
- 30:09Speaker 5: loved that place and I had no intention to leave
- 30:12Speaker 5: in Indiana called its quick process. I think by the
- 30:14Speaker 5: time I came here, I just had a lot of
- 30:16Speaker 5: confidence and belief because we've won all our championships.
- 30:21Speaker 2: Oh wow, oh wow.
- 30:25Speaker 3: He actually got head coaching experience at D two Indiana PA.
- 30:30Speaker 3: Then went to Elon, which y'all didn't even know played football,
- 30:33Speaker 3: then went to James Madison and won like ninety one
- 30:36Speaker 3: percent of his games, and then, oh wow, he had
- 30:40Speaker 3: a lot of confidence in championships after years of figuring
- 30:43Speaker 3: out how he wanted to do it. And so Indiana
- 30:47Speaker 3: hired someone with head coaching experience and he understood how
- 30:55Speaker 3: to staff and run a program.
- 30:57Speaker 2: Isn't that amazing? Yeah? That works crazy?
- 31:04Speaker 3: Can you imagine if that's the way that your appletic
- 31:08Speaker 3: department operated? That was Kurt Signetty. He went from Alabama
- 31:16Speaker 3: under Saban to a college that none of you have
- 31:20Speaker 3: ever heard of, Indiana PA. I mean, I don't know
- 31:25Speaker 3: what they have, eighteen scholarships speaking cond he won big there.
- 31:30Speaker 2: Then he went to Elon.
- 31:32Speaker 3: I thought, budget's probably about one hundred and ten thousand,
- 31:35Speaker 3: one big there, went to James Madison's budget.
- 31:38Speaker 2: There's probably about.
- 31:39Speaker 3: Seven hundred thousand, which SEC programs already spent this morning,
- 31:44Speaker 3: and improved them by six games in year one. I
- 31:48Speaker 3: was told by people in this state that you need
- 31:52Speaker 3: all this time and that you shouldn't expect. I guess
- 31:56Speaker 3: you don't have high expectations, but you don't You shouldn't
- 31:59Speaker 3: expect anything in year one or even year two. I mean,
- 32:03Speaker 3: you got to set that bar low, baby, I mean
- 32:07Speaker 3: you won't want to. I mean, we have an athletic
- 32:11Speaker 3: department in this state and too many fans in that
- 32:15Speaker 3: fan base who still believe that it's the two thousand
- 32:19Speaker 3: and eleven, two thousand and three, nineteen ninety three, nineteen
- 32:23Speaker 3: eighty six model where you give a coach three or
- 32:26Speaker 3: four years to build or five. So anyway, I thought
- 32:33Speaker 3: some of you, and I can already tell on the
- 32:35Speaker 3: Dancing Rabbit golf text line that some of you would love,
- 32:39Speaker 3: would like that drop on Kurt Signetti going from Alabama
- 32:43Speaker 3: where you have everything you need. Whatever Savan asked for,
- 32:48Speaker 3: he got Alabama to Indiana, PA. I'll take a cut
- 32:59Speaker 3: and pay at that age fifty one fifty two, I'm
- 33:06Speaker 3: in Alabama. I'm making all this money, We're winning championships.
- 33:11Speaker 3: If I hold out, maybe something else happens. I'm known
- 33:18Speaker 3: as the quirky, weird assistant, but I'm off the charts brilliant.
- 33:21Speaker 3: Savans somehow picked up on that to hire him. What
- 33:25Speaker 3: will you look it up, Jackson? Please? I know you
- 33:26Speaker 3: did last week and twenty and eleven, twenty ten, so
- 33:31Speaker 3: we're talking. Somebody put now. Kurt Signetti's dad was a
- 33:36Speaker 3: legendary coach I think in Pennsylvania. So I don't know
- 33:41Speaker 3: if that's you know, Savings from West Virginia, went to
- 33:45Speaker 3: Kent State coach, was spent one year as the Toledo
- 33:50Speaker 3: head coach in between NFL stops, coached in Cleveland. He
- 33:55Speaker 3: could have very well heard of Kurt Signetti's dad, but
- 34:00Speaker 3: long before he hired Kurt Signetti at Alabama. Even though
- 34:04Speaker 3: he's quirky and weird, off the charts, brilliant and the
- 34:08Speaker 3: rest is history. Kurt Signetti goes to Indiana Pad two
- 34:11Speaker 3: elon James Madison, wins at an extraordinary rate, figuring out
- 34:17Speaker 3: how to develop into a head coach, improved James Madison
- 34:21Speaker 3: by six games in year one, won championships along the way,
- 34:27Speaker 3: and then goes to Indiana Indiana Hoosiers and wins a
- 34:31Speaker 3: national championship. You know, his dad also coached at iup
- 34:36Speaker 3: for Okay, so there we go, there we go. He
- 34:41Speaker 3: was with saving seven to ten. Dang, that was early early. Yeah,
- 34:46Speaker 3: I'll never forget Jake Cocher, who I got to hang
- 34:49Speaker 3: out with last week. And you know, he won a
- 34:51Speaker 3: national title at Bama as a QB, and but he
- 34:54Speaker 3: signed with Florida State and Jimbo out of high school.
- 34:57Speaker 3: And the reason why, you know, Coker was a phenomenal
- 35:03Speaker 3: player down in the Mobile area and Jimbo offered him
- 35:09Speaker 3: and Alabama had not and.
- 35:13Speaker 2: So he committed.
- 35:14Speaker 3: I don't remember if he committed on the spot that
- 35:16Speaker 3: he committed, and then Bama came in late and his
- 35:20Speaker 3: mom said, you gave Jimbo Fisher your word, you're going
- 35:26Speaker 3: to Florida State.
- 35:27Speaker 2: Well it didn't work out.
- 35:29Speaker 3: Yeah, Okay, and so Cocker transferred to Alabama, and I
- 35:35Speaker 3: will never forget him telling us at dinner one night
- 35:38Speaker 3: at Philippim's Steakhouse on the property of Pearl River Resort,
- 35:42Speaker 3: he walked us through the difference in Jimbo's program and
- 35:47Speaker 3: Saban's program, and we all thought for a minute, you know,
- 35:50Speaker 3: Jimbo was people were convinced he was a star. And
- 35:55Speaker 3: Pat bar two was the first one to pop that bubble.
- 35:57Speaker 3: And of course Jimbo wrecked Florida State before and then
- 36:00Speaker 3: wrecked A and M. But but I'll never forget Cochers,
- 36:04Speaker 3: Like I thought, you know, when I left high school,
- 36:07Speaker 3: I went to Florida State, those workouts were like wow.
- 36:11Speaker 3: And Jimbo had spent time under Saban at LSU, and
- 36:18Speaker 3: he said we'd get a bottle of muscle milk after
- 36:23Speaker 3: the workout at Florida State. He said, I go to
- 36:27Speaker 3: Alabama and Scott Cochrane, the legendary strength and conditioning coach,
- 36:33Speaker 3: gives me one a sheet of paper of the workout.
- 36:39Speaker 3: All right, He's now at the University of Alabama, transferring
- 36:41Speaker 3: from Florida State, and Jake Coker looks at it and
- 36:44Speaker 3: he goes, is this for the week and Cochran goes, no,
- 36:49Speaker 3: that's for today. I want you to think about that.
- 36:52Speaker 3: Florida State was Saint Mary's or Elon. Okay, And and
- 36:59Speaker 3: then Cocher talked about how after the first workout he
- 37:03Speaker 3: couldn't move, so he's just laying on the turf. I'm
- 37:06Speaker 3: assuming I think is what he said inside the indoor
- 37:10Speaker 3: practice facility. And he said, right when you're done. And
- 37:15Speaker 3: this was several years ago. The recovery process was something
- 37:20Speaker 3: that I had never experienced. He said, we had access
- 37:22Speaker 3: to any therapist, uh trainers and he said it wasn't
- 37:26Speaker 3: just he said they had a This is before everybody
- 37:31Speaker 3: did it. Just this like all the food and drinks
- 37:34Speaker 3: you could you could want, they were all saving. Was
- 37:38Speaker 3: already had already implemented the NFL recovery into the Alabama
- 37:43Speaker 3: football program, long before even Jake Kocher got there. Man, Okay,
- 37:55Speaker 3: this is Signetti talking about his advice Kurt Signett, National
- 38:00Speaker 3: championship coach Indiana Hoosiers. What this is him talking about
- 38:05Speaker 3: advice that he gives to young coaches.
- 38:08Speaker 4: What's the biggest piece of advice you have for a
- 38:09Speaker 4: young coach who wants to make it.
- 38:11Speaker 5: Never give up on your goal. I mean, look at me,
- 38:13Speaker 5: I was what twenty eight thirty year assistant coach, took
- 38:16Speaker 5: a D two head job, and now you know, I
- 38:19Speaker 5: don't feel like I've made it. Don't get me wrong.
- 38:21Speaker 5: I mean we had nice year. Last year, we won
- 38:23Speaker 5: national championship. We've had success, a lot of success, but
- 38:25Speaker 5: there's challenges ahead. You can never feel like you made it.
- 38:28Speaker 5: But you got to be persistent. You gotta believe in
- 38:30Speaker 5: yourself and then when you get that opportunity, you got
- 38:33Speaker 5: to make the most of it. You got to walk
- 38:35Speaker 5: and blaze your own trail. You can't leave somebody else.
- 38:37Speaker 5: You gotta be yourself because there's a lot of ways
- 38:39Speaker 5: of skin a cat.
- 38:41Speaker 2: Wow, what if Indiana?
- 38:43Speaker 3: What if I think there's a lot of people that
- 38:45Speaker 3: are still like one hit wonder? Yeah yeah, yeah, Okay,
- 38:52Speaker 3: what if he's there for six or seven more years?
- 38:55Speaker 3: They've already gone to two college football playoffs appearances and
- 39:00Speaker 3: won a national title. Let's just say he's there for
- 39:03Speaker 3: six or seven years and they go to three more
- 39:09Speaker 3: college football playoff appearances. Won't that be incredible that the
- 39:14Speaker 3: Indiana Hoosiers, who no one ever watched play or cared about,
- 39:19Speaker 3: could be on the scene and in the forefront for
- 39:24Speaker 3: some time now. He'd be a case study forever. Right,
- 39:30Speaker 3: he probably already is, right, he absolutely already is. He
- 39:34Speaker 3: won a national championship at Indiana.
- 39:36Speaker 2: Yes, stop, what's that? I mean?
- 39:40Speaker 3: I remember when they asked Kirby about it. You can
- 39:42Speaker 3: tell he was like, and Kirby's a smart guy. I mean,
- 39:47Speaker 3: obviously he's not as quirky and weird as sure Signetti,
- 39:51Speaker 3: and he may not be as brilliant, but he's a
- 39:53Speaker 3: smart guy. But when they ask Kirby about it, you
- 39:57Speaker 3: could tell in his facial expression he was like, I
- 40:00Speaker 3: still can't blanking believe it. Yeah, he can't fathom it
- 40:03Speaker 3: that Indiana won a national title. I mean him and
- 40:07Speaker 3: the rest of the country, right, Yeah, I don't know
- 40:11Speaker 3: when I'll be able to accept that. I don't think
- 40:16Speaker 3: we've even thought about really digesting that, yeah, and wrapping
- 40:21Speaker 3: our brains around the fact that the Indiana Hoosiers are
- 40:23Speaker 3: champs in.
- 40:24Speaker 2: Football no way, not.
- 40:28Speaker 3: Hockey, right or basketball, in which they really hadn't been
- 40:31Speaker 3: good in twenty five years. So, but we do know
- 40:34Speaker 3: that Bob Knight won it in seventy six, eighty one
- 40:36Speaker 3: and eighty seven. I was at that eighty seven final four.
- 40:39Speaker 3: But the point is that's what they were. And then
- 40:43Speaker 3: Peyton Manning made that more of a football state. Yep,
- 40:46Speaker 3: because I have friends that we've worked with that live
- 40:49Speaker 3: in Indianapolis over the years, and one was tied into
- 40:54Speaker 3: Turquoise Place with us, and he was like, look, we
- 40:57Speaker 3: were hoops. But Peyton changed to where the Colts were winning,
- 41:03Speaker 3: and people called the football fever, but it didn't, Uh,
- 41:07Speaker 3: it didn't, you know, trickle down or resonate with any
- 41:11Speaker 3: of the college teams in the state of Indiana. And
- 41:14Speaker 3: then Kurt Signetti is hired and he wins the title.
- 41:18Speaker 3: Which does that tell us that they did not have
- 41:21Speaker 3: the most expensive roster? Not close? Okay, and they didn't
- 41:25Speaker 3: have the most five stars. So I still think we're
- 41:30Speaker 3: trying to really define what does it tell us in
- 41:33Speaker 3: this new era of splintered, fractured talent, watered down teams.
- 41:41Speaker 2: Figure out what the hate just happened? What happened? They
- 41:44Speaker 2: beat Miami, they beat Bama, and.
- 41:47Speaker 3: They beat other teams that we we didn't think that
- 41:51Speaker 3: they would beat embarrassingly like hurt their hurt their feelings.
- 42:00Speaker 2: Thirty eight to three. That's that is a that hurts
- 42:02Speaker 2: your feelings. Thirty eight to three.
- 42:05Speaker 3: Hey, for our listeners, y'all probably forgot because you were
- 42:08Speaker 3: drinking champagne or whatever, but or ice cold beer. Indiana
- 42:16Speaker 3: beat Alabama in football thirty eight to three.
- 42:20Speaker 2: That happened.
- 42:23Speaker 3: You never thought that that would happen. Nick Saban never
- 42:27Speaker 3: thought it would happen. I mean, Jesse and you know
- 42:33Speaker 3: wherever leads Alabama in no way. Never thought who threw
- 42:38Speaker 3: his TV out in the street the night that Indiana
- 42:42Speaker 3: beat Alabama by six touchdowns.
- 42:48Speaker 2: Dominating. I get in a fight if you wear in
