- 0:46Speaker 4: Enjoy the show.

- 0:53Speaker 2: Kilowatts of power.
- 1:24Speaker 6: Live people ignore the strange and unusual.
- 1:28Speaker 3: I myself am strange and unusual.
- 1:40Speaker 1: What's up and welcome to Movie Meltdown.
- 1:42Speaker 3: I'm Brian. And I'm George.
- 1:43Speaker 1: And we're coming to you live via digital recording.
- 1:45Speaker 3: From the Sanctum Sanctorum.
- 1:48Speaker 4: There we go.
- 1:50Speaker 1: Otherwise known as the Oddity Studios. But I have my
- 1:52Speaker 1: own little sanctum. I'm working on that giant window.
- 1:55Speaker 3: That'd be a nice window to have.
- 1:57Speaker 1: But we're back for another entry into the Super Series.
- 2:01Speaker 1: And before we get to the big daddy here, Papa, Papa,
- 2:07Speaker 1: Papa Daddy.
- 2:08Speaker 3: Pizza Papa.
- 2:10Speaker 1: Before we jump to that, I figure it's always kind
- 2:13Speaker 1: of a good... easing our way in, especially because there
- 2:16Speaker 1: is so much Marvel out there now that we can
- 2:19Speaker 1: discuss things like the series, because I don't do that
- 2:21Speaker 1: much on the movie end of things, but I figure
- 2:23Speaker 1: for entry points, that's a good thing.
- 2:26Speaker 3: We haven't discussed Moon Knight at all. We have not, no.
- 2:29Speaker 1: I have my thoughts, and I haven't heard much on yours,
- 2:32Speaker 1: so I'm kind of interested to hear what you think
- 2:34Speaker 1: of Moon Knight.
- 2:36Speaker 3: I absolutely love the series. I am a longtime fan
- 2:39Speaker 3: of the character throughout every incarnation he's had. And there
- 2:44Speaker 3: have been many different takes on him. The traditional take
- 2:48Speaker 3: is like, okay, he's kind of the Batman-ish kind of guy.
- 2:51Speaker 1: I heard that and I expected a little more of that.
- 2:54Speaker 1: And to me, that's not what I'm getting out of
- 2:56Speaker 1: the series, at least.
- 2:57Speaker 3: That's the old school stuff. Because while the writers set
- 3:00Speaker 3: up like, okay, he has this... Multiple personality disorder, what
- 3:03Speaker 3: it was called back then. Now it's disassociative identity disorder.
- 3:06Speaker 3: But nonetheless, back then, I was like, oh, he's got
- 3:10Speaker 3: all these three guys. And, you know, Mark Spector's the
- 3:12Speaker 3: main guy. He's the Moon Knight. He's the mercenary. Stephen Grant, however,
- 3:16Speaker 3: not a British accent, but he was like the... movie
- 3:20Speaker 3: producer he was the Bruce Wayne kind of guy.
- 3:22Speaker 1: I feel like that's a functional thing yes it was
- 3:25Speaker 1: I think it's so much well I mean again on
- 3:27Speaker 1: the page I guess you could make it different but
- 3:29Speaker 1: like performance wise I think it would be so hard
- 3:32Speaker 1: to keep it even now there was a few times
- 3:34Speaker 1: I'm like wait which one And luckily he has a
- 3:36Speaker 1: pretty distinctive British accent that you're like, okay, it's that guy.
- 3:39Speaker 3: And it was also fun later in the series when
- 3:41Speaker 3: they started working in conjunction and they had like the
- 3:43Speaker 3: different suits and they'd swap back and forth.
- 3:45Speaker 1: Or they'd have that moment of, I didn't do that.
- 3:48Speaker 3: Did you do that? So like there's a whole extra
- 3:50Speaker 3: little aspect to that.
- 3:51Speaker 4: Oh, we'll get to that.
- 3:52Speaker 3: So, yeah. But yeah, so, but again, but then, you know,
- 3:55Speaker 3: so that was kind of the traditional way. And then
- 3:57Speaker 3: as the series has gone on through different writers and
- 4:00Speaker 3: teams and we've delved far much more into the psychological
- 4:05Speaker 3: aspects and really, like, who are these aspects? And also
- 4:09Speaker 3: sometimes writers asking questions, is Moon Knight a fourth aspect?
- 4:14Speaker 3: And is Khonshu himself a fifth aspect? Yeah. Like, Khonshu
- 4:17Speaker 3: doesn't exist. Like, all five of these personas are in
- 4:20Speaker 3: one person.
- 4:21Speaker 4: Hmm.
- 4:22Speaker 3: You know, so it asks all these questions. And, like,
- 4:26Speaker 3: the Jeff Flamire run of the series... really delved in
- 4:30Speaker 3: a lot to the, which is reality, which is not
- 4:34Speaker 3: that we saw a lot in the series when we
- 4:35Speaker 3: would see Mark on occasion in the asylum, you know,
- 4:38Speaker 3: sort of thing. And then later on, we saw Arthur
- 4:40Speaker 3: in the asylum, both as a, you know, a staff
- 4:44Speaker 3: member and a patient. Um, But, yeah, so it just,
- 4:48Speaker 3: the Jeff Lemire run of Moon Knight played a lot
- 4:50Speaker 3: with that reality sort of thing like that. The Warren
- 4:53Speaker 3: Ellis run introduced us to the Mr. Knight persona, which
- 4:57Speaker 3: is the Moon Knight suit that looked like a suit
- 4:59Speaker 3: with a mask on.
- 5:00Speaker 1: That was kind of a cool thing.
- 5:01Speaker 3: That's a very cool suit.
- 5:04Speaker 1: He looks so much more badass in his, like, superhero mode, but, like,
- 5:07Speaker 1: that's a fun little deviation there of, like.
- 5:10Speaker 3: Yeah, okay, we're going to do it, but it's a
- 5:11Speaker 3: little different, like. But I love how, and, of course,
- 5:16Speaker 3: skipping way ahead to the end, that, of course, Moon
- 5:18Speaker 3: Knight fans knew there was a third persona coming. We
- 5:21Speaker 3: were waiting for Jake to pop up. And I loved
- 5:24Speaker 3: how they just waited to the end. Like, okay, so
- 5:26Speaker 3: we kept, no, it was like, okay, so obviously Jake
- 5:30Speaker 3: is the guy that, like, when the chips are down,
- 5:32Speaker 3: the dark stuff really needs to be done. Here's the
- 5:35Speaker 3: guy that does it. Also, what's far more dangerous is
- 5:38Speaker 3: that basically Khonshu created an avatar for within an avatar.
- 5:42Speaker 3: So Jake is not only independent of Steven and Mark,
- 5:47Speaker 3: he is loyal to Khonshu. And he is also homicidal.
- 5:53Speaker 1: I think these are some of my problems with it.
- 5:55Speaker 1: I think it's so... overwhelmingly complicated. Which is by nature.
- 6:02Speaker 3: I get it. That's good.
- 6:03Speaker 1: But I think it starts off so well. Like that
- 6:06Speaker 1: first episode, I was just like, okay, this is awesome.
- 6:09Speaker 3: It really does.
- 6:11Speaker 1: Again, so often I'm like, with any superhero, anything at
- 6:15Speaker 1: this point, there's so many that we don't need origin story.
- 6:18Speaker 1: Everybody knows it, whatever.
- 6:19Speaker 3: Sure.
- 6:20Speaker 1: You're wasting your time.
- 6:21Speaker 3: Moon Knight, so few people know about.
- 6:23Speaker 2: Sure.
- 6:23Speaker 1: So I'm like, okay, this is one you can dig
- 6:25Speaker 1: in and really do an origin story. But it gets
- 6:29Speaker 1: so caught up in its own crazy origins that I'm like,
- 6:32Speaker 1: I don't know how much it's going to transfer over
- 6:34Speaker 1: to anybody who's even... even a relatively involved comic book
- 6:38Speaker 1: person or certainly the movie people that have gotten involved
- 6:41Speaker 1: in the comics topics, you know, I don't know. Cause
- 6:44Speaker 1: even I was like, it starts off really great. I
- 6:46Speaker 1: love both like sort of, again, Oscar Isaac is doing
- 6:49Speaker 1: great stuff. He is doing top notch work and he's
- 6:52Speaker 1: a great actor anyway, but like, I love what he's
- 6:55Speaker 1: doing with, you know, The British version of him, I
- 6:58Speaker 1: love when he comes out and is the badass. So
- 7:00Speaker 1: it's like he's doing this great job of balancing the two.
- 7:03Speaker 1: And even that second episode, we're getting a little more
- 7:06Speaker 1: into it. We're getting to see him do a little more.
- 7:08Speaker 1: But it gets so caught up from that. And this
- 7:12Speaker 1: is maybe just what is happening with the Marvel series.
- 7:15Speaker 1: I think because they have so much more time. They
- 7:18Speaker 1: almost stretch their legs a little too much.
- 7:21Speaker 3: And this is just me.
- 7:22Speaker 1: Cause I know you like Loki a lot more than I,
- 7:25Speaker 1: and I think that was the same thing. Loki just
- 7:27Speaker 1: got bogged down in let's overanalyze everything we're doing and
- 7:30Speaker 1: drag it out for an entire episode. When very little
- 7:34Speaker 1: gets accomplished, we see interesting stuff along the way. And I,
- 7:37Speaker 1: same thing with this one. I think there's some great
- 7:39Speaker 1: stuff going on, but there were a couple episodes in
- 7:42Speaker 1: the middle there. And I was like, what did we
- 7:44Speaker 1: really accomplish here? We wasted 45 minutes doing it, but like,
- 7:48Speaker 1: I also feel like in a two and a half
- 7:50Speaker 1: minute dialogue session, you could have gotten to the same place.
- 7:53Speaker 3: Sure. Well, that's just me.
- 7:56Speaker 1: But this is, I think, starting to register with people
- 7:58Speaker 1: because I've seen a lot of people's comments online.
- 8:02Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 8:02Speaker 1: And there's a whole lot of, meh. Like, it's rare
- 8:04Speaker 1: that anybody's hating on it, but they just don't connect
- 8:08Speaker 1: with it. And that was sort of my thing, too.
- 8:09Speaker 3: And I think we're going to have a bit of
- 8:12Speaker 3: difficulty with that as we're in this particular phase because
- 8:16Speaker 3: we're dealing a lot with multiversal stuff, time-traveling, alternate universes,
- 8:21Speaker 3: alternate selves, that sort of thing. And to a lot
- 8:24Speaker 3: of people, that can be complex stuff. If you haven't
- 8:27Speaker 3: been reading Marvel comics for 10, 20, 30, 40 years,
- 8:31Speaker 3: or any comic books for that matter, yeah, that could
- 8:33Speaker 3: be some heady stuff.
- 8:35Speaker 1: I think it just slows it down so much. There's
- 8:37Speaker 1: so much for them to go into, and now they
- 8:39Speaker 1: have the opportunity to, where even 10 years ago, you
- 8:43Speaker 1: couldn't have done a series like this.
- 8:44Speaker 3: So.
- 8:45Speaker 1: You'd have to wrap everything up in an hour and
- 8:47Speaker 1: a half, and they used to do that with superhero movies,
- 8:49Speaker 1: where now they're just like, let's take our time with this,
- 8:52Speaker 1: and they do.
- 8:53Speaker 3: But see, that's a good thing, because the viewer themselves
- 8:56Speaker 3: can take time with the series. They don't have to
- 8:58Speaker 3: binge the whole thing at once. You can basically... It's
- 9:02Speaker 3: almost kind of why Disney still does the week-to-week releases.
- 9:06Speaker 3: Let it register. Talk about it. Speculate about it. Think
- 9:10Speaker 3: it over a little bit. Then the next week, you
- 9:11Speaker 3: got your next one. The next week, you got your
- 9:13Speaker 3: next one. Then by the finale, you get your answers.
- 9:15Speaker 1: Right. I think the other issue with this one specifically, though,
- 9:18Speaker 1: is I also went in expecting something that we almost
- 9:22Speaker 1: never got.
- 9:23Speaker 3: Until that last episode, like, we got a little of it.
- 9:25Speaker 1: But even then, it wasn't much for something that, again,
- 9:28Speaker 1: going in from the backstory, going.
- 9:30Speaker 3: Okay, he's kind of like Batman.
- 9:31Speaker 1: He's going to be a badass and kick people's ass.
- 9:33Speaker 1: And like, we got five episodes and.
- 9:35Speaker 3: None of that. But see, that's the thing.
- 9:37Speaker 6: Finally.
- 9:38Speaker 3: That's kind of where, yeah, the sixth episode did appease
- 9:41Speaker 3: a lot of people with getting a lot more action
- 9:43Speaker 3: in that episode.
- 9:44Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:44Speaker 3: I tell you what, for a 47-minute finale, which is
- 9:47Speaker 3: the shortest of all the Marvel series finales, that is
- 9:51Speaker 3: an economical as hell episode.
- 9:52Speaker 1: They packed a lot into that last episode. Again, the
- 9:55Speaker 1: two before that were so slow and didn't really get
- 9:58Speaker 1: much of anything. Again, we got a little more fleshing
- 10:01Speaker 1: out of the backstory and the psychological of it, blah, blah, whatever.
- 10:04Speaker 1: But I want to see him kick people's ass, too.
- 10:06Speaker 3: It's a balance. But that's the thing, though. Again, that's
- 10:09Speaker 3: where it kind of comes in with the lack of
- 10:11Speaker 3: familiarity with the character. You take one look at that
- 10:14Speaker 3: That character not knowing anything about him going, oh, he
- 10:16Speaker 3: looks like Batman except he's all white or he does
- 10:18Speaker 3: that sort of thing. Or I see the trailer and
- 10:20Speaker 3: he does this and this and this. Like, so you
- 10:22Speaker 3: expect that. The comic fans know, no, this is a
- 10:25Speaker 3: heady character. This is a very cerebral, you know, like
- 10:30Speaker 3: there's a lot of internal struggle going on. I mean,
- 10:32Speaker 3: there's been issues that basically do not take place entirely
- 10:35Speaker 3: in reality. They take place entirely in Mark. Yeah.
- 10:38Speaker 5: Or they take place entirely in the mind of the
- 10:44Speaker 5: person that inhabits Mark and Steven and Jake and Khonshu
- 10:47Speaker 5: and Moon Knight and.
- 10:49Speaker 3: Whatever else you want to throw in there.
- 10:51Speaker 1: In theory, I agree with all these things and I
- 10:53Speaker 1: approve of them. It's just execution. Again, it's just another
- 10:58Speaker 1: one of those.
- 10:58Speaker 3: I watched it.
- 10:59Speaker 1: I'm glad I watched it, but I don't feel like
- 11:01Speaker 1: I'm going to want to revisit it. Maybe that last episode.
- 11:04Speaker 1: But other than that, so much of the rest of it,
- 11:05Speaker 1: I'm like, I've seen it.
- 11:06Speaker 3: I'm fine.
- 11:07Speaker 1: So that's not true with some other things. Like there's
- 11:10Speaker 1: other ones that I'm like, I love, I can't wait
- 11:12Speaker 1: to go back and watch this again. And this one,
- 11:14Speaker 1: I was just like, nah, I've seen it.
- 11:16Speaker 3: The interesting thing I thought was my wife's reaction because,
- 11:19Speaker 3: you know, She is not a comic book fan. She's
- 11:22Speaker 3: an MCU fan because we just watch these movies together.
- 11:25Speaker 3: The ones that she really likes. I think you're getting
- 11:27Speaker 3: a lot of people like that. Yeah, and the ones
- 11:29Speaker 3: she likes she watches over and over again. Captain Marvel,
- 11:31Speaker 3: Black Panther, Shang-Chi, the Guardians movies. She's watched those constantly.
- 11:36Speaker 3: But then she really dug into Moon Knight. She loved
- 11:40Speaker 3: the character, loved the approach, loved the cerebral things, the
- 11:43Speaker 3: playing with reality, and getting into all the different personas.
- 11:47Speaker 3: So she really enjoyed the process of it. And then
- 11:50Speaker 3: Of course, she always loves when you get a lot
- 11:53Speaker 3: of good representation in characters. So basically, when Lila gets
- 11:56Speaker 3: her superhero moment and becomes the Scarlet Scarab... She's pretty badass.
- 12:02Speaker 3: She was badass before she became a superhero.
- 12:04Speaker 1: Again, I was just like, yeah, I liked that character.
- 12:06Speaker 1: I wanted a little more with like, she had a
- 12:09Speaker 1: good amount of screen time, but not enough to do really.
- 12:12Speaker 1: So we get to that last episode and like she
- 12:13Speaker 1: gets both.
- 12:14Speaker 3: Yeah. Plus on top of that.
- 12:15Speaker 1: So yeah, I was just like, why are we wasting
- 12:17Speaker 1: all these other episodes not showing her be a badass?
- 12:19Speaker 1: Put her in those wings and let her start kicking
- 12:21Speaker 1: people's ass. So yeah, I enjoyed that part of it too. Yeah.
- 12:24Speaker 3: But yeah, so that's the thing is that, you know,
- 12:27Speaker 3: There's a lot of people fretting over, like, the rumors that, oh,
- 12:30Speaker 3: we're not going to see a season two of Moon
- 12:31Speaker 3: Knight or whatever else. Guys, like, Disney has kind of
- 12:34Speaker 3: learned now when it comes to award seasons for these series,
- 12:37Speaker 3: you have to kind of hedge your bets. It's like, okay,
- 12:40Speaker 3: what are our plans for this character? Are we going
- 12:42Speaker 3: to make another season of Moon Knight or are we
- 12:44Speaker 3: going to put him... In another show or another movie
- 12:48Speaker 3: and tell more story there like we're doing with some
- 12:51Speaker 3: other characters. Like basically with Wanda is a really good example.
- 12:54Speaker 3: Total crossover. When we get into Doctor Strange. Like we
- 12:57Speaker 3: get more of her story that wasn't finished in WandaVision.
- 13:00Speaker 3: So that's how the Marvel Universe works in the comics.
- 13:03Speaker 1: I was thinking that watching this. I was like, I
- 13:05Speaker 1: don't know how. Like, in a way, like, again, I
- 13:07Speaker 1: like him as the hero version and kicking ass. So, like,
- 13:12Speaker 1: I want to see more of that. But I'm like,
- 13:13Speaker 1: trying to work him into other stuff seems awkward at
- 13:17Speaker 1: the moment. But I'm like, again, maybe they'll find a
- 13:19Speaker 1: good way to do it.
- 13:20Speaker 3: They will. Yeah. That's the interesting thing, too, about this
- 13:25Speaker 3: particular series more so than any of the other series
- 13:27Speaker 3: of movies. Where... Does this take place in the MCU?
- 13:32Speaker 3: And when and how and all of the above? Nothing
- 13:36Speaker 3: else was mentioned. No snap, no other names of heroes
- 13:39Speaker 3: or villains. It is all Egypt, Egyptian gods. Even like Steven,
- 13:45Speaker 3: you would think would make some pop culture references, but none.
- 13:48Speaker 1: See, that's what I did.
- 13:50Speaker 3: Again, I.
- 13:52Speaker 1: Didn't know much about that aspect of it. So once
- 13:55Speaker 1: we got into it and all the cool Egypt stuff,
- 13:58Speaker 1: setting and backstory and heroes like that is always again
- 14:02Speaker 1: i think that's the easy i think a lot of
- 14:03Speaker 1: people like of any other culture like egyptian stuff just
- 14:07Speaker 1: looks cool yeah it's a little more mainstream and has
- 14:10Speaker 1: worked its way into pop culture a little bit so
- 14:12Speaker 1: like i think we latch on to that a little
- 14:14Speaker 1: bit but again like i liked a little of getting
- 14:17Speaker 1: into that like going into the temple and digging around
- 14:21Speaker 1: and burial sites. And, you know, all of that gets
- 14:24Speaker 1: into that cool Indiana Jones ish stuff, which is what's,
- 14:27Speaker 1: you know, we pulled this into that kind of stuff.
- 14:30Speaker 1: The rip, the thing, it was really funny. Cause again,
- 14:32Speaker 1: I didn't know much about him again, thinking more of
- 14:34Speaker 1: like Batman.
- 14:35Speaker 3: But then I got to.
- 14:36Speaker 1: This, I was like, after a while, I was like,
- 14:38Speaker 1: he's just super mummy. He's just a mummy with a
- 14:42Speaker 1: cave basically, or a cloak more accurately. But yeah, I
- 14:45Speaker 1: was just like, he's just sort of superhero mummy more
- 14:47Speaker 1: than anything. At least as the presentation, not in actuality.
- 14:51Speaker 3: Sure, yeah. But, yeah, you're somewhat right about that. Because,
- 14:54Speaker 3: of course, a lot of the, like, you know, the
- 14:56Speaker 3: crescent daggers he carries, that's a very Egyptian thing. You know,
- 15:00Speaker 3: the battle staves, not so much that he had. But, yeah,
- 15:02Speaker 3: but a lot of the other, you know, like, in, like,
- 15:04Speaker 3: some of the earlier comics, the fun thing is that
- 15:08Speaker 3: there's a couple Easter eggs, especially in the first episode
- 15:10Speaker 3: where he's going through the phone and sees Lila, Lila, Lila, Lila.
- 15:12Speaker 3: And there was one name that said Dushaum. Okay, that
- 15:15Speaker 3: is Frenchie Duchamp, which is basically his pilot and partner
- 15:19Speaker 3: in the old comics. And he literally had a jet
- 15:22Speaker 3: that was shaped like a crescent. It was a jet
- 15:24Speaker 3: like the wings went out, so it looked like a
- 15:25Speaker 3: crescent moon. And Frenchie flew the plane. So that was
- 15:29Speaker 3: a fun little... Planting the seed somewhere down the line.
- 15:32Speaker 3: Frenchie could be somewhere in there. I definitely have a
- 15:35Speaker 3: feeling that if we see Moon Knight, especially in a
- 15:39Speaker 3: team setting, it's going to be a bit of a...
- 15:42Speaker 3: Different take, but a revival of the Midnight Sun's property,
- 15:45Speaker 3: which is basically all the horror characters getting together. Yeah.
- 15:49Speaker 3: So the lay the groundwork that we have Blade coming.
- 15:53Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 15:53Speaker 3: We have Black Knight from Eternals who kind of look
- 15:57Speaker 3: like it's some supernatural stuff with a sword, maybe whatever
- 16:00Speaker 3: his abilities come to be. Moon Knight, definitely. We could
- 16:03Speaker 3: bring Ghost Rider back. Wherever the hell Morbius happens to
- 16:07Speaker 3: be in the MCU or in the Sonyverse or whatever
- 16:11Speaker 3: the hell. We can bring Morbius in, or at least,
- 16:13Speaker 3: if not Jared Leto, somebody else. Because, okay, well, that's
- 16:16Speaker 3: their Morbius. We have our Morbius.
- 16:19Speaker 1: He infected another guy who's not Jared Leto because he's
- 16:21Speaker 1: a weirdo.
- 16:22Speaker 3: So now we have this new actor. We have a
- 16:24Speaker 3: multiverse now. The Sonyverse is going to be given a
- 16:28Speaker 3: number designation. We'll have a 616 Morbius.
- 16:31Speaker 1: We have definitely given ourselves an out with these last
- 16:34Speaker 1: two movies to do whatever the hell we want now.
- 16:37Speaker 2: So, like.
- 16:39Speaker 3: That's right. The MacGuffin of all MacGuffins.
- 16:41Speaker 1: We've found a loophole to do whatever.
- 16:43Speaker 3: The hell we want. Yes, sir. Yeah.
- 16:46Speaker 1: So anyway, that was just.
- 16:48Speaker 3: Kind of overview of Moon Knight stuff. We've got Ms.
- 16:52Speaker 3: Marvel coming later this year.
- 16:54Speaker 1: I was trying to think who the next one was
- 16:56Speaker 1: because I was going back through and I was like,
- 16:58Speaker 1: they were almost kind of diminishing returns for me, but
- 17:01Speaker 1: then I forgot Hawkeye in there and I really liked Hawkeye.
- 17:04Speaker 1: And again, that's one that I feel like, just works
- 17:06Speaker 1: really well. It's like they found a good story arc.
- 17:09Speaker 1: Each episode was kind of timed out. It plays a
- 17:12Speaker 1: little more normal versus something like Moon Knight or Loki.
- 17:15Speaker 1: But I think, again, for me, that worked better. But again,
- 17:20Speaker 1: it's a personal thing. Everybody likes their thing.
- 17:22Speaker 3: I'm excited for Ms. Marvel because, of course, you've got
- 17:25Speaker 3: space powers. Alien stuff is what hers is. But there's also,
- 17:30Speaker 3: basically because she's Muslim, there's a big... Emphasis on her culture,
- 17:35Speaker 3: on her family, on her family dynamic and stuff like that.
- 17:37Speaker 3: So there's a lot of that identity that's thrown in
- 17:40Speaker 3: there as well. So I'm making Kamala Khan a really
- 17:42Speaker 3: great character. So I'm glad that she's getting her day
- 17:44Speaker 3: in the sun or six episodes in the sun.
- 17:47Speaker 1: At this point, everybody will just give you six episodes.
- 17:50Speaker 1: You figure out what you're.
- 17:51Speaker 4: Going to do.
- 17:51Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 17:52Speaker 3: But then, you know, or depending on how they may be.
- 17:55Speaker 3: I'm not sure what the episode. I know like She-Hulk
- 17:57Speaker 3: supposed to be eight episodes, but those are only like
- 18:00Speaker 3: half hour episodes.
- 18:01Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 18:02Speaker 3: Kind of like a bit of Night Court with superheroes
- 18:04Speaker 3: in it.
- 18:05Speaker 1: Which is what we've all wanted, really.
- 18:08Speaker 3: As long as Bull shows up. I would love to
- 18:11Speaker 3: get the entire series of Night Court on DVD or
- 18:13Speaker 3: Blu-ray or something like that somewhere. That needs to be released.
- 18:16Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 18:16Speaker 3: Because that was my jam. Love that show. I've seen
- 18:19Speaker 3: it so many.
- 18:19Speaker 1: Although not lately, because it went out of syndication, it
- 18:23Speaker 1: seems like. Back in the day, I saw those.
- 18:26Speaker 3: And you would think with all these streaming channels we
- 18:29Speaker 3: have now and side channels that TVs have to have
- 18:32Speaker 3: and whatnot, it's like, there's got to be some Night
- 18:34Speaker 3: Court somewhere. You would think. Revive this.
- 18:36Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 18:40Speaker 3: All right.
- 18:41Speaker 1: Anything else before we jump to the movie?
- 18:45Speaker 3: I think we're ready. Dive headfirst. Get more out of life.
- 18:50Speaker 4: Go out to a movie.
- 19:05Speaker 2: Every night, I dream the same dream.
- 19:12Speaker 6: And then.
- 19:20Speaker 2: The nightmare begins. I did what I had to do.
- 19:30Speaker 2: To protect our world.
- 19:34Speaker 4: You cannot control everything, Strange.
- 19:39Speaker 2: You opened the doorway between universes. And we don't know
- 19:44Speaker 2: who or.
- 19:44Speaker 6: What will walk through it. Wanda.
- 19:48Speaker 4: What do you.
- 19:50Speaker 2: Know about the multiverse?
- 19:51Speaker 6: Viz had his theories.
- 19:53Speaker 2: He believed it was dangerous.
- 19:59Speaker 3: He was right.
- 20:06Speaker 4: I'm sorry, Steven. Your desecration of reality.
- 20:13Speaker 3: Will not go unpunished. We should tell him the truth.
- 20:42Speaker 1: You break the rules.
- 20:42Speaker 6: Look out!
- 20:45Speaker 4: You become a hero.
- 20:48Speaker 2: I do it.
- 20:49Speaker 1: I become the enemy.
- 20:53Speaker 4: That doesn't seem fair.
- 21:15Speaker 6: Strange, thought I knew you well Thought I had read
- 21:23Speaker 6: the sky Thought I had read a change in your
- 21:29Speaker 6: eyes So strange, woke up to a world That I
- 21:38Speaker 6: am not a part except when I can play It's
- 21:43Speaker 6: strange if What are we looking for? And I wonder
- 21:55Speaker 6: when will I learn? Blue isn't there. Everybody knows this.
- 22:06Speaker 6: And I wonder when will I learn? When will I learn?
- 22:16Speaker 6: Guess I wasn't deeper than I thought I was if.
- 22:21Speaker 4: I have enough love.
- 22:26Speaker 6: Both, both of us.
- 22:29Speaker 1: All right. We have gone out on the town, some
- 22:32Speaker 1: people many, many times, to see this new movie.
- 22:37Speaker 4: It wasn't me.
- 22:38Speaker 1: Although I wanted to immediately. I was just like, can I? Damn,
- 22:41Speaker 1: I don't have time to work in another viewing before
- 22:43Speaker 1: we sit down to talk because I immediately wanted to.
- 22:46Speaker 1: Just to kind of tell you how I was taking it.
- 22:50Speaker 1: Our Out on the Town feature is Doctor Strange in
- 22:52Speaker 1: the Multiverse of Madness. The year is 2022. The director,
- 22:59Speaker 1: Sam Raimi, and the plot, according to IMDb. Doctor Stephen
- 23:04Speaker 1: Strange casts a forbidden spell that opens the doorway to
- 23:07Speaker 1: a multiverse, including alternate versions of himself, whose threat to
- 23:11Speaker 1: humanity is too great for the combined forces of Strange, Wong,
- 23:14Speaker 1: and Wanda Maximoff. Which is not all that accurate, it
- 23:18Speaker 1: seems like, but it's IMDb.
- 23:21Speaker 3: They're hitting me. It's accurate for the first 15 minutes
- 23:23Speaker 3: of the movie.
- 23:24Speaker 1: And then you realize, oh, this is a whole different movie. So,
- 23:30Speaker 1: spoiler alert, we're going to ruin the hell out of this.
- 23:32Speaker 3: Oh, yeah. Yeah, definitely.
- 23:34Speaker 1: I would assume it did relatively well this weekend. So, hopefully,
- 23:38Speaker 1: you've already seen it.
- 23:39Speaker 3: I think on Saturday, it was already approaching 200 million,
- 23:43Speaker 3: or at least that was the project of the weekend.
- 23:45Speaker 1: I think it's already the biggest opening of this year,
- 23:47Speaker 1: at least. So, it's something.
- 23:49Speaker 3: And that's impressive, because, let's see, Batman was pretty big. So,
- 23:56Speaker 3: we got that. Yeah.
- 23:57Speaker 2: Lovely.
- 23:58Speaker 4: Lovely.
- 23:59Speaker 3: Yeah, I end up seeing it twice out in the theater. So....
- 24:04Speaker 1: Where do we begin? I mean, I.
- 24:08Speaker 1: This is the most impressive thing, I think. And it's
- 24:11Speaker 1: because I listen to so many other... There's specific shows
- 24:15Speaker 1: I listen to. There's people on the internets. If you
- 24:17Speaker 1: pay attention to what anybody's yammering about, you shouldn't really.
- 24:22Speaker 1: So many people give Marvel crap in general. but specifically
- 24:27Speaker 1: for the fact that you lose most of your specific, your,
- 24:33Speaker 1: your tourism, if you get into your film geek thing.
- 24:36Speaker 3: Sure.
- 24:37Speaker 1: So like you don't really get anything from individual directors
- 24:40Speaker 1: in particular.
- 24:40Speaker 3: Oh yeah.
- 24:41Speaker 1: And so, so much of that is lost and it
- 24:43Speaker 1: all becomes a big homogenized thing and all the, you know,
- 24:47Speaker 1: you may hire the most pot. Look at the freaking, uh, internals.
- 24:51Speaker 1: Like you could take the biggest name in directing from the,
- 24:54Speaker 1: art house scene, throw them in a Marvel movie and
- 24:56Speaker 1: they get completely lost. And like, you don't really get
- 24:59Speaker 1: that thing that they do, which is really obvious when
- 25:02Speaker 1: they do their smaller indie movies. Yep. This is the
- 25:05Speaker 1: one I'm like, well, that throws that rule out the window.
- 25:07Speaker 3: Cause I'm what?
- 25:09Speaker 1: 10, 15 minutes in when the giant eyeball pops out
- 25:12Speaker 1: down on the screen. I'm like, Oh Lord, this is
- 25:14Speaker 1: Sam Raimi.
- 25:15Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 25:15Speaker 1: And then as it went on, I was like, it
- 25:18Speaker 1: is so Sam Raimi. It is crazy that not just,
- 25:22Speaker 1: The tone of it all, but also the shooting style
- 25:25Speaker 1: is so Sam Raimi that I'm like.
- 25:27Speaker 3: And we get Sam-specific Easter eggs, too. Not just... Yeah.
- 25:29Speaker 3: Not the Marvel stuff. Not the Marvel stuff. We get
- 25:31Speaker 3: Sam Raimi Easter eggs. Which is in itself, like, great.
- 25:34Speaker 1: So, yeah, there's so much of that that I appreciate that, like.
- 25:39Speaker 6: I love.
- 25:39Speaker 1: so many of the Marvel movies, and I'm the one
- 25:42Speaker 1: trying to defend them most of the time, where I'm like, well,
- 25:44Speaker 1: you know, there's definitely exceptions to that rule anyway. I
- 25:48Speaker 1: think both the James Gunn movies are very James Gunn,
- 25:50Speaker 1: so it's like they.
- 25:51Speaker 3: I was about to say the exact same thing.
- 25:52Speaker 1: They stand out, but they're not as drastically different, because
- 25:55Speaker 1: Sam is a little more over the top than James Gunn.
- 25:58Speaker 3: But, you know, you're 100% right. With the exception of
- 26:01Speaker 3: the Guardians movies... Yeah, the Marvel movies are pretty homogenized.
- 26:05Speaker 3: Even the Russo brothers are fantastic directors, but they don't
- 26:11Speaker 3: have a distinctive style or anything like that.
- 26:12Speaker 1: I was thinking that today. I feel like theirs at
- 26:15Speaker 1: least seem like the same universe. Theirs seem similar in
- 26:19Speaker 1: just shooting style and the way that they present the
- 26:21Speaker 1: scenes and the edits and the stuff like that is
- 26:24Speaker 1: very fluid between one movie. So your last... Two Captain
- 26:28Speaker 1: America movies going into the Avengers, two one-two punch there.
- 26:32Speaker 1: All of that feels like one big thing. Right. Stylistically, anyway.
- 26:36Speaker 1: And story-wise, really. But, yeah, the rest of them... But
- 26:40Speaker 1: even they aren't all tourist. They are more journeyman-like. So
- 26:44Speaker 1: they are very workman-like. Here's what we're doing. There's a
- 26:47Speaker 1: few little specific types of things that they do that
- 26:50Speaker 1: are different from other directors. But for the most part,
- 26:52Speaker 1: they're still just like, workman we're going to show up
- 26:54Speaker 1: and tell this story and they're really good at it
- 26:57Speaker 1: again i think they've done a great job with their
- 26:59Speaker 1: arc there but it's not drastically different than what a
- 27:03Speaker 1: lot of the other directors were doing along the.
- 27:04Speaker 3: Way exactly i was gonna get i was getting excited
- 27:07Speaker 3: about when the first ant-man movie was originally gonna be
- 27:10Speaker 3: directed by edgar wright.
- 27:11Speaker 1: I think that would have been drastically different that would
- 27:13Speaker 1: have been the other one they'd be like here's the
- 27:15Speaker 1: outlier of the bunch yeah and that's probably you still
- 27:18Speaker 1: see those little moments of him.
- 27:19Speaker 3: And But the only thing really is Louise. Telling that story.
- 27:24Speaker 3: Anytime it cuts to him. That's Edgar Wright. That's the
- 27:29Speaker 3: only thing that's really left in the movie that was
- 27:31Speaker 3: truly his. And I think that's kind of why he
- 27:34Speaker 3: wasn't on the project. Because he and Marvel butted heads
- 27:37Speaker 3: too much. He wanted to make an Edgar Wright movie.
- 27:40Speaker 3: And they're like, no, we need you to make a
- 27:41Speaker 3: superhero movie. I mean, his stuff is so specific to him.
- 27:44Speaker 3: Look at any of his movies.
- 27:46Speaker 1: Even the ones that get out of the trilogy there. Like,
- 27:49Speaker 1: just that last one, again, I just brought it up
- 27:52Speaker 1: on an episode, but it was like, it's a horror
- 27:54Speaker 1: movie that I didn't know was going to be a
- 27:55Speaker 1: horror movie.
- 27:56Speaker 3: I know, yeah.
- 27:57Speaker 1: And, like, again, he's so heavy with his specific shooting
- 28:01Speaker 1: style and his music references and bashing them together as
- 28:05Speaker 1: often as he does.
- 28:06Speaker 3: But Last Night in Soho, though, yes, it is a
- 28:08Speaker 3: horror movie, he is such a gorgeous horror movie. Oh, yeah.
- 28:11Speaker 1: I mean, he is a terrific filmmaker.
- 28:13Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 28:14Speaker 1: And wants to do things his way. And, like, it's
- 28:16Speaker 1: a very identifiable, different thing from... Which doesn't necessarily easily
- 28:21Speaker 1: fit into the Marvel Universe. I can see them butting heads,
- 28:24Speaker 1: and they obviously did.
- 28:25Speaker 3: Yeah, I would put this on the level of horror
- 28:27Speaker 3: like Black Swan. This isn't like Slasher or stuff like that.
- 28:31Speaker 1: But it definitely moves into horror.
- 28:33Speaker 3: It does definitely, yeah. This is undeniable by the time
- 28:36Speaker 3: you get to the end of the movie. You have
- 28:37Speaker 3: seen a horror movie and you know it. But it's
- 28:40Speaker 3: classy horror. Yeah, you know.
- 28:42Speaker 1: Unlike our movie, which is schlocky if it wants to be.
- 28:46Speaker 3: And there's a lot of... God bless it all. And
- 28:51Speaker 3: that was my thing going in.
- 28:52Speaker 1: I was just like... Or as I was sitting there.
- 28:54Speaker 1: This was one of those times. There's so many times
- 28:57Speaker 1: when I watch stuff lately and.
- 28:58Speaker 3: I'm just like.
- 28:58Speaker 1: Yeah, it was fine. I don't care. But like I'm
- 29:00Speaker 1: in the movie and I realized the goofy grin that
- 29:03Speaker 1: I have. This is so much fun.
- 29:05Speaker 4: I am.
- 29:06Speaker 3: And it's horrible. Some of these things are happening on screen.
- 29:08Speaker 1: But I'm like, I am having so much fun that
- 29:11Speaker 1: like it bumped it by the end. I was like,
- 29:14Speaker 1: this is kind of one of my favorite Marvel movies.
- 29:16Speaker 1: Like almost immediately. I was like, I had so much
- 29:18Speaker 1: fun with this. It knew and it like did such
- 29:21Speaker 1: a great job. telling this specific story that like, it'd
- 29:25Speaker 1: be different if it was just handing it off to
- 29:27Speaker 1: somebody else that doesn't fit in with the Marvel universe.
- 29:29Speaker 1: And they sort of fumble the storytelling. But I think this, again,
- 29:33Speaker 1: I've brought this up with you previously. I wasn't overly
- 29:37Speaker 1: thrilled with the first Doctor Strange movie. It's fine, but again,
- 29:40Speaker 1: I don't care about the otherworldly powers as much as
- 29:44Speaker 1: the grounded ones. And so you get into him, plus
- 29:47Speaker 1: he's such a cocky bastard that he's really hard to
- 29:51Speaker 1: like in that first movie. We get into this one,
- 29:53Speaker 1: and I'm like, you've seen him grow a little bit
- 29:56Speaker 1: in the crossover movies there.
- 29:58Speaker 3: Definitely that first Avengers.
- 30:00Speaker 1: infinity war like he's got a good amount of screen
- 30:02Speaker 1: time and you see a little more of him sort
- 30:04Speaker 1: of like dealing with other people which is not his
- 30:07Speaker 1: forte right again but you start to see him getting
- 30:10Speaker 1: a little it's wearing the edges off a little bit
- 30:12Speaker 1: but now you get into this and not only do
- 30:16Speaker 1: you see him as a father figure which i've never
- 30:20Speaker 1: would have considered that as a thing from that first
- 30:22Speaker 1: movie but Also, you get to see him, like, just
- 30:26Speaker 1: being really selfless. And, you know, as a selfish bastard
- 30:30Speaker 1: in that first movie, like, that is what he was.
- 30:33Speaker 1: That was building the character around what a selfish bastard
- 30:36Speaker 1: he was. And, like, we see him, like, not just
- 30:39Speaker 1: once or twice. Like, as an overall person, he just
- 30:43Speaker 1: continues to be, like, not just what's for the greater good,
- 30:47Speaker 1: but what will help you, what will help, you know,
- 30:50Speaker 1: this scenario. Like, every step of the way, you see
- 30:52Speaker 1: him kind of realizing that like his actions are important
- 30:58Speaker 1: and affect other people and what's the best thing i
- 31:00Speaker 1: can do to help this person these people the whole
- 31:04Speaker 1: world like it's it's again a different tone coming from
- 31:08Speaker 1: him that i didn't expect going into this.
- 31:10Speaker 3: Movie and that's really cool they finally got into that
- 31:14Speaker 3: aspect of steven because yeah, when we first meet Steven,
- 31:17Speaker 3: he is a dick. He is. And he's supposed to be.
- 31:20Speaker 1: Yeah, and I knew that, but it's still, it's another
- 31:22Speaker 1: one of those, like, before I went to this, I
- 31:24Speaker 1: kept going, should I re-watch the first one? I don't
- 31:26Speaker 1: think I've watched it since maybe that first time.
- 31:28Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 31:29Speaker 1: I might have gone back to see it right after that,
- 31:30Speaker 1: but I haven't revisited it for that same reason. I'm like,
- 31:34Speaker 1: it's just not fun. And like, I didn't convince myself ever.
- 31:37Speaker 1: I watched, re-watched Guardians, because again, and it reinforced my
- 31:42Speaker 1: James Gunn thing. I was like, that's such a good
- 31:44Speaker 1: different specific movie that finds its characters.
- 31:48Speaker 3: So like, I.
- 31:48Speaker 1: Didn't really want to revisit that one. And then you
- 31:50Speaker 1: get into this and I'm like, nope, Sam Raimi found
- 31:53Speaker 1: a way to not just be himself as a director,
- 31:56Speaker 1: but to sort of take this character and sort of
- 31:59Speaker 1: guide him along and be like, this is a cool story,
- 32:02Speaker 1: but we're also going to expand who you are along
- 32:04Speaker 1: the way. And that's, Again, way more than I expected
- 32:07Speaker 1: going into this movie.
- 32:08Speaker 3: Yeah, absolutely. Well, see, the one thing I knew is that,
- 32:10Speaker 3: you know, seeing Spider-Man No Way Home is like, okay,
- 32:13Speaker 3: we're dipping our pinky toe in the multiverse. Oh, yeah.
- 32:16Speaker 3: That was how that is. Getting the folks used to it.
- 32:19Speaker 3: It's like, here's what's going to be. Doctor Strange, okay,
- 32:22Speaker 3: now we've dunked your head into the multiverse.
- 32:24Speaker 1: And held it under until you drowned.
- 32:27Speaker 3: Almost. But we have a lot more to come. Because
- 32:32Speaker 3: after this movie, it has cemented where we are heading
- 32:35Speaker 3: for the big movie. Our big Infinity War endgame.
- 32:38Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 32:39Speaker 3: Where we're going for this. This movie 100% cemented that
- 32:42Speaker 3: for me because we have said one magic word. Incursions.
- 32:47Speaker 3: That's the big buzzword, folks. Pay attention when you hear
- 32:50Speaker 3: that because we're going to start seeing it more. And
- 32:53Speaker 3: eventually we're going to start seeing worlds that we get
- 32:56Speaker 3: to spend a little time in and start giving a
- 32:58Speaker 3: crap about the people there. And then we will see
- 33:01Speaker 3: that world annihilated. Yeah. Because we're heading to the secret wars.
- 33:06Speaker 1: Well, I mean, that's kind of, again, dipping your toe
- 33:10Speaker 1: in with this movie. We've spent many, many movies with Wanda.
- 33:15Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 33:16Speaker 1: And it was a, yeah, it was that 15 minutes
- 33:18Speaker 1: in and you're just like, oh, like I remember we
- 33:21Speaker 1: even threw out there, maybe she'll be the villain of
- 33:23Speaker 1: this movie. But again, I don't think I realized to
- 33:25Speaker 1: what extent she would be the villain of this movie.
- 33:29Speaker 3: She is just, They're.
- 33:31Speaker 1: It's just vicious.
- 33:33Speaker 3: It is.
- 33:34Speaker 1: Again, watching some of the things that... If you would
- 33:36Speaker 1: have told me ten years ago some of these things,
- 33:39Speaker 1: I was like, there's no way in hell Marvel would
- 33:40Speaker 1: let that happen.
- 33:41Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 33:42Speaker 1: And we've gotten to that point now where they're loosening
- 33:44Speaker 1: the grip a little bit, and we've got worlds colliding studio-wise, and, like,
- 33:49Speaker 1: so not only are we having crossover characters, but we're.
- 33:52Speaker 3: Murdering crossover characters. Yeah. Brutally.
- 33:56Speaker 1: Very disturbingly in some circumstances.
- 34:00Speaker 3: So.
- 34:01Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, all of that. But it took me
- 34:03Speaker 1: just a little while to realize how dark they were taking. Like,
- 34:07Speaker 1: this is the Wanda Dark Phoenix of her own. We've
- 34:10Speaker 1: seen too many of those versions done. So it was
- 34:12Speaker 1: nice to kind of get a different and well-done version
- 34:14Speaker 1: of that, where the thing that it reminded me of
- 34:17Speaker 1: by the very end, and it's weird that this director
- 34:21Speaker 1: was involved. Now we want nothing to do with him.
- 34:23Speaker 1: But it was the later season of Buffy, essentially. Yeah.
- 34:27Speaker 1: We see Willow become, you know, she's been our best
- 34:29Speaker 1: friend the whole series and she becomes the big bad.
- 34:32Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 34:32Speaker 1: And then by the end, the only way to, because
- 34:35Speaker 1: nobody's really powerful enough to stop her. The only way
- 34:37Speaker 1: to stop her is to appeal to what little goodness
- 34:41Speaker 1: was still left in her. And I was like, once
- 34:43Speaker 1: we got to that scene, I was like, oh, this is, yeah,
- 34:45Speaker 1: this is the only way. Because she is, we've, again,
- 34:49Speaker 1: over the years talking about these movies, theorized that she's
- 34:51Speaker 1: maybe arguably one of the most powerful. Certainly one of
- 34:55Speaker 1: the most powerful. maybe could take any of those people.
- 34:58Speaker 1: So yeah, it's interesting watching her get unchained and start
- 35:03Speaker 1: taking people out and then realizing, yeah, she could just
- 35:07Speaker 1: annihilate everybody if left unchecked.
- 35:10Speaker 3: That's the fascinating thing about Wanda in the comics and
- 35:12Speaker 3: the movies are following suit is that so many times
- 35:16Speaker 3: the comics, like it first started like, I think I'm
- 35:19Speaker 3: like the West Coast Avengers run where that was the
- 35:21Speaker 3: first time that Wanda went bad and it was because
- 35:24Speaker 3: of the Darkhold.
- 35:25Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 35:26Speaker 3: Uh, because that's the thing is that we've been talking
- 35:27Speaker 3: about the dark hold and how important of a book
- 35:29Speaker 3: this is. We have not discussed who has written the
- 35:35Speaker 3: dark hold, a demon by the name of Jethon, who
- 35:38Speaker 3: has a long history with terrorizing Wanda as well as
- 35:42Speaker 3: a few other people, but he is deeply connected with
- 35:46Speaker 3: the dark hold. So we haven't even gotten to him yet. Uh,
- 35:50Speaker 3: which is, may have been behind a lot of her
- 35:53Speaker 3: turn and a lot of her, you know, um, I guess,
- 35:56Speaker 3: you know, bastardization of who she was. Of course, I
- 36:01Speaker 3: had theorized, you know, heard a lot of rumors that
- 36:03Speaker 3: initially we're going to introduce the Doctor Strange villain Nightmare,
- 36:06Speaker 3: which he runs the dream world, but also is a
- 36:08Speaker 3: bad guy, but didn't get to that. But kind of
- 36:11Speaker 3: the interesting thing is that we've got all this multiversal
- 36:14Speaker 3: stuff going on like that. And we talked about how
- 36:17Speaker 3: dreams basically might be a window into our multiversal selves. Like, oh,
- 36:22Speaker 3: that opens the door right up for them then later on.
- 36:24Speaker 3: So we're getting a lot of, but going back to Wanda,
- 36:27Speaker 3: it's like there's more than a few times that she
- 36:29Speaker 3: has gone bad. Well, I mean, she starts as a
- 36:33Speaker 3: villain almost. Yeah. I mean, a victim more or less.
- 36:36Speaker 3: And that's right.
- 36:36Speaker 1: But start, we come into her in this MCU as
- 36:40Speaker 1: like a potential bad guy, you know?
- 36:43Speaker 3: And that's how she was introduced. Yeah. In the book,
- 36:46Speaker 3: she was basically the daughter of Magneto, a member of
- 36:48Speaker 3: the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants.
- 36:49Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 36:50Speaker 3: She and Quicksilver were there. So it's like, yeah, she
- 36:52Speaker 3: has had such a complicated history. I mean, she's basically
- 36:55Speaker 3: been responsible for the deaths of multiple Avengers. She has
- 36:59Speaker 3: been responsible for the death or annihilation of the abilities
- 37:04Speaker 3: of almost the entire mutant population throughout the comics. I mean,
- 37:08Speaker 3: she's responsible for the three most dangerous words in the
- 37:10Speaker 3: Marvel Universe, no more mutants. Yeah. And she killed, with
- 37:14Speaker 3: the exception of 128, she wiped them all out in
- 37:17Speaker 3: three words. So it's like, yeah, she is extremely dangerous.
- 37:22Speaker 3: But if she's in the right frame of mind, she
- 37:25Speaker 3: is one of the most powerful and useful people. You
- 37:27Speaker 3: need her on your side. You need her, yeah. And
- 37:30Speaker 3: she's had those good moments, too. But, yeah, she is
- 37:34Speaker 3: such a tortured soul.
- 37:36Speaker 1: Well, and again, what I think makes it work so
- 37:39Speaker 1: well and what is, I think, kept me so from
- 37:41Speaker 1: that very first movie so involved in it is how
- 37:45Speaker 1: good Elizabeth Olsen is. Yeah.
- 37:47Speaker 2: Just.
- 37:48Speaker 1: i've seen her in other movies i knew her beforehand
- 37:51Speaker 1: coming in from a lot of weird little indie movies
- 37:53Speaker 1: and she turned in these great performances and i'm like
- 37:55Speaker 1: she's already like rising above what could have just been
- 37:58Speaker 1: a weird you know oh she's related to the most
- 38:01Speaker 1: ridiculous pop culture characters from the 90s sure so like
- 38:05Speaker 1: she could have been a joke and like she was
- 38:07Speaker 1: like no i'm a hell of an actress and i'm
- 38:09Speaker 1: skilled and i'm gonna be you know Focusing on my career.
- 38:12Speaker 3: And I don't care. I would almost say her acting
- 38:14Speaker 3: career is overshadowed to that of her sister's. Oh yeah.
- 38:16Speaker 3: I think at this point. That's why Kate never brought
- 38:19Speaker 3: home an Oscar.
- 38:20Speaker 1: They still got more money than all of us put together.
- 38:23Speaker 3: But.
- 38:23Speaker 1: But. I think as the legacy goes on. They're like
- 38:27Speaker 1: a joke from the 90s. Versus she is legit. Like
- 38:30Speaker 1: she is going to be. in the anthem of Hollywood superstars.
- 38:35Speaker 1: I think she's going to outlast them as far as
- 38:37Speaker 1: talent and career.
- 38:39Speaker 3: She will have a long career. Yes.
- 38:41Speaker 1: And already has. She's already pulled in so many amazing performances.
- 38:46Speaker 3: And again, it would be.
- 38:47Speaker 1: Easy to just sort of phone it in because you're
- 38:49Speaker 1: doing a superhero movie. But she's so good in these. Oh, yeah.
- 38:53Speaker 3: Especially this movie. This is her favorite. As good as
- 38:56Speaker 3: she was in the WandaVision series with how much she
- 38:59Speaker 3: had to change throughout that, you just really see some
- 39:02Speaker 3: fantastic moments here.
- 39:04Speaker 1: Yeah, and that's what I was going to say, too,
- 39:06Speaker 1: going back to our beginning discussion there. I think that's
- 39:10Speaker 1: one of the times when they found a way to
- 39:12Speaker 1: make it work. And that's why I was saying almost
- 39:13Speaker 1: diminishing returns because it started so good on that first season. Yeah.
- 39:18Speaker 3: That from that.
- 39:19Speaker 1: Point, I was like, everything else is almost going to
- 39:21Speaker 1: have to fight to be because it's so well done.
- 39:24Speaker 1: And they were one that took their time and did
- 39:26Speaker 1: it right. Because I feel like they very... slowly eased
- 39:31Speaker 1: their way. So much so you didn't even know what
- 39:33Speaker 1: you were in the middle of. For people that came
- 39:35Speaker 1: from the outside and just started watching, which I know somebody,
- 39:37Speaker 1: that their introduction to Marvel was WandaVision.
- 39:40Speaker 3: Oh, wow. And they were like, I like her.
- 39:43Speaker 1: Same thing. They knew who she was beforehand. And they
- 39:45Speaker 1: were like, I like her. This sounds interesting.
- 39:46Speaker 3: Okay.
- 39:47Speaker 1: And just started watching that. And we're like, oh, I
- 39:49Speaker 1: need to do some homework. And so they realize I
- 39:53Speaker 1: need to watch some other stuff to really even begin
- 39:56Speaker 1: to comprehend all of this.
- 39:57Speaker 3: You need to watch Avengers 2, Infinity War, and Endgame
- 40:01Speaker 3: at least. Just to know more of who she is.
- 40:05Speaker 1: There's a lot of these that kind of factor in
- 40:07Speaker 1: a little bit. So yeah, I think they found a
- 40:13Speaker 1: way to space that out Give each episode its own
- 40:17Speaker 1: little thing while still telling one whole story. And show
- 40:21Speaker 1: how much... And again, I think that was so good
- 40:25Speaker 1: is what helps this movie be as good as it
- 40:26Speaker 1: is too. Because she's almost a lead. She spends a
- 40:31Speaker 1: lot of time in this movie. So I'm like, if
- 40:34Speaker 1: it would have came out of nowhere, if we didn't
- 40:36Speaker 1: have WandaVision, you'd be like, what the hell? But because
- 40:39Speaker 1: we watched her not only live this delusional life, but then...
- 40:44Speaker 1: how much it was destroying her watching it fall apart.
- 40:47Speaker 1: They're like, you buy that. She's in this state of
- 40:50Speaker 1: mind that it's from the, from the get go in
- 40:52Speaker 1: the forest there, she's fragile at best. And like, all
- 40:57Speaker 1: it would take is just a little bit. So because
- 41:00Speaker 1: of her performance and how much of a, you know,
- 41:03Speaker 1: time we spent with her and Wanda vision, like, I
- 41:05Speaker 1: think that brought that performance to a whole nother level
- 41:08Speaker 1: here that like, again, if it came out of nowhere, you,
- 41:12Speaker 1: it would be harder to take.
- 41:13Speaker 3: How dark she goes.
- 41:14Speaker 1: But because you lived these episodes with her through WandaVision,
- 41:17Speaker 1: you're like, no, there's a reason she's going this.
- 41:20Speaker 3: Dark and this crazy.
- 41:21Speaker 1: And like, I don't know. I think that helped so
- 41:25Speaker 1: much with where she ended up going. And then once
- 41:28Speaker 1: she got there, she just dug in and it's just
- 41:30Speaker 1: like vicious.
- 41:33Speaker 3: And you kind of get it. That's the thing.
- 41:36Speaker 1: It's like you don't fully side with her, but you
- 41:39Speaker 1: understand how she got to where she is.
- 41:41Speaker 3: Oh, yeah. That's the thing. You were talking about how
- 41:44Speaker 3: nuanced her performance is. Even in that first scene where
- 41:46Speaker 3: they're in the apple orchard, and she's like, okay, let
- 41:49Speaker 3: me tell you about what's going on with Westview. I
- 41:50Speaker 3: know that's happening. And then she's ready to already start
- 41:53Speaker 3: fighting there. And he's like, no, no, hang on. That's
- 41:57Speaker 3: not what I'm here about. Hold on. Actually, we got
- 41:59Speaker 3: this thing over here. And she's like, Oh, yeah, that too. Okay. Oh, yeah.
- 42:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 42:05Speaker 3: Of course, like, it's so quickly revealed, you know, that, yeah,
- 42:08Speaker 3: she's behind it all. But, yeah, I just love it.
- 42:13Speaker 3: Of course, you love those little callbacks to WandaVision. Like,
- 42:15Speaker 3: that first scene where she's having the dream and you
- 42:18Speaker 3: can hear the WandaVision theme. Or, like, the scene where basically,
- 42:22Speaker 3: you know, Charles is in the mental space and tries
- 42:25Speaker 3: to pull her out of the rubble there on the TV. Yeah,
- 42:27Speaker 3: and the TV is running. Yeah, and basically it's the
- 42:30Speaker 3: first episode.
- 42:30Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 42:31Speaker 3: Yeah. Well, I also thought it was really interesting.
- 42:34Speaker 1: And, like, again, not by accident, not even maybe because
- 42:39Speaker 1: he had other things to do. But I like that
- 42:41Speaker 1: there is no vision. Even in her weird alternate universe
- 42:45Speaker 1: idealized world, there still isn't vision anymore.
- 42:49Speaker 3: And, like, so now she's so.
- 42:51Speaker 1: She mentions him, but, like, she's so obsessed with the kids. But, like,
- 42:54Speaker 1: the vision part seems to be gone.
- 42:56Speaker 3: Because.
- 42:57Speaker 1: And I think maybe that's... What broke everything like he's gone.
- 43:00Speaker 3: There's no getting him back.
- 43:01Speaker 1: All I have are these kids that were my only
- 43:04Speaker 1: connection to him. And yeah, she's just past that point
- 43:08Speaker 1: of no return with that.
- 43:10Speaker 3: It may be a bit of that. It may be
- 43:11Speaker 3: a bit of the fact that she got to say
- 43:14Speaker 3: goodbye to Vision. Yeah. They got to have a definitive,
- 43:17Speaker 3: you know, like, I know that you try to recreate me.
- 43:20Speaker 6: Twice.
- 43:21Speaker 3: As we killed him twice.
- 43:22Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 43:24Speaker 3: And then brought him back a third time, kind of. Yeah. Well, yeah,
- 43:27Speaker 3: we did bring him back a third time. You know, basically,
- 43:29Speaker 3: she kills him, Thanos kills him, and then she brings
- 43:31Speaker 3: him back from the dead, you know, sort of thing there,
- 43:33Speaker 3: and then he comes back as the white, old white version. So, yeah,
- 43:37Speaker 3: there's basically definitely, like, they got to have a parting
- 43:40Speaker 3: of the ways, even though there's a version of him
- 43:42Speaker 3: still running around that's like a Basically, he got rebooted, essentially,
- 43:46Speaker 3: so he's of the blank slate.
- 43:47Speaker 1: Thinking about that is like a whole thing we haven't...
- 43:50Speaker 1: It's funny that they don't even touch on that. It's
- 43:52Speaker 1: just like, look, later.
- 43:54Speaker 3: We'll get back to it, I'm sure. There are probably
- 43:56Speaker 3: some other relevant series coming up where he could pop
- 43:58Speaker 3: up in. Namely, I'm thinking the Armor Wars. But that's
- 44:04Speaker 3: a little more complicated than that, why he popped up
- 44:06Speaker 3: in there. But yeah, definitely, I think she definitely got
- 44:10Speaker 3: to have that kind of resolution with Vision. That she
- 44:12Speaker 3: didn't get to have with the kids. Yeah. The kids
- 44:14Speaker 3: were just taken from her. One snap.
- 44:17Speaker 6: Gone.
- 44:17Speaker 3: And the thing is, though, is that that's always such
- 44:20Speaker 3: a deep connection with Wanda and the comics is these
- 44:23Speaker 3: completely fake children. Yeah. And the weird thing is that
- 44:27Speaker 3: later on, these completely fake children in another universe grow up,
- 44:33Speaker 3: get stuck in our universe through basically middling with stuff,
- 44:39Speaker 3: and they form a super team. Yep. So Wanda's children
- 44:43Speaker 3: are now in their 20s running around as a superhero team,
- 44:46Speaker 3: but they technically aren't even real. Because the real children
- 44:51Speaker 3: that she did create in her universe do not exist anymore.
- 44:55Speaker 3: She dissipated them. But in other universes, yes, there are
- 44:59Speaker 3: that do exist. It's very complicated.
- 45:02Speaker 1: But again, that complicated works somehow. Again, I feel like
- 45:06Speaker 1: everything that went on in this movie... They just found
- 45:09Speaker 1: a way to make it work and make it so
- 45:12Speaker 1: easily digestible and fun that like it's so different than
- 45:16Speaker 1: what was going on even in Moon Knight and Loki
- 45:18Speaker 1: and like where it's overcomplicated. But like it's almost work
- 45:21Speaker 1: getting through it where this was just fluid. Like it
- 45:24Speaker 1: just flowed into the next scene and everything worked and
- 45:27Speaker 1: you were on board and you got it. And it
- 45:29Speaker 1: was a good time along the way, even though people
- 45:32Speaker 1: you cared about were being murdered. So yeah, it's surprising
- 45:36Speaker 1: how well, for as complicated as this was, or even
- 45:39Speaker 1: going back to the first one, like the first Doctor
- 45:41Speaker 1: Strange got into all the other worlds and jumping from
- 45:44Speaker 1: one place to the other. But eventually it seemed like
- 45:47Speaker 1: it got bogged down for me with a whole lot
- 45:49Speaker 1: of just running around. They're just running, chasing each other
- 45:52Speaker 1: through multiverses or whatever the hell they were. Different planes
- 45:55Speaker 1: of existence or I don't know. Again, that's why I
- 45:57Speaker 1: was like after a while, I'm like, okay, I get it,
- 45:59Speaker 1: but I don't care. I don't really want to spend
- 46:01Speaker 1: more time with that. Versus this is just so well done. So, again, it, like,
- 46:07Speaker 1: sucks you in. It's like you want to be involved
- 46:09Speaker 1: in what's going on here. So, yeah.
- 46:11Speaker 3: Well, yeah, they definitely, like, I just think you've got
- 46:14Speaker 3: a master filmmaker like Sam Raimi behind the helm. You know,
- 46:18Speaker 3: we had a very tight script. You had, you know,
- 46:21Speaker 3: actors who were used to their characters, used to their performances.
- 46:24Speaker 3: So everybody's kind of like, the only new kid on
- 46:26Speaker 3: the block was literally the new kid on the block.
- 46:28Speaker 3: I don't know how to pronounce her first name, but Ms. Gomez.
- 46:30Speaker 3: We will, you know, like.
- 46:32Speaker 1: I'm just going with America.
- 46:33Speaker 3: Yeah, America. Yeah, America Chavez.
- 46:34Speaker 1: I'm going to mix the two together. Yeah. America Gomez.
- 46:39Speaker 3: But yeah, America was literally the new kid on the
- 46:41Speaker 3: block there. And, you know, and even like, you know,
- 46:44Speaker 3: having like Denny Elfman doing the score. I mean, everything felt.
- 46:47Speaker 3: Back to the old version. Yeah.
- 46:49Speaker 1: Old mixture of things in a new way.
- 46:51Speaker 3: Yeah. Everything just felt at home. You know, because my
- 46:53Speaker 3: favorite of the three Raimi Spider-Man films will always be
- 46:56Speaker 3: the second one because of those three, that's the one
- 46:58Speaker 3: that feels like a Sam Raimi movie.
- 47:00Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 47:00Speaker 3: Yeah. Even more.
- 47:01Speaker 1: Like, you can definitely see him in that first one.
- 47:03Speaker 1: He is definitely Sam Raimi in that, too. But it
- 47:07Speaker 1: just doubled down on that second movie. And nobody wants
- 47:11Speaker 1: to claim the third one.
- 47:12Speaker 3: No.
- 47:13Speaker 1: Certainly Sam doesn't.
- 47:15Speaker 3: That was way too much studio tampering. That was, yeah,
- 47:17Speaker 3: fulfilling his contract. Yeah. But, you know, going to where
- 47:22Speaker 3: we started talking about is that, you know, this definitely
- 47:24Speaker 3: being a Sam film, we got to have some of
- 47:26Speaker 3: our beloved Sam Raimi Easter eggs that we expect... And
- 47:29Speaker 3: get in every Sam Raimi movie, namely our two biggest ones.
- 47:33Speaker 3: We get Bruce. Of course. You know, Pizza Papa. Love that.
- 47:37Speaker 3: And the whole, like, basically the spell that's cast on
- 47:41Speaker 3: him to get him away from that. He's getting beaten
- 47:44Speaker 3: up by his own hands, folks. That's never happened to
- 47:47Speaker 3: him in a movie before. I mean, at first it
- 47:50Speaker 3: was funny because he first, like, his right hand started
- 47:51Speaker 3: beating him. Like, oh, my God. It's like he can't
- 47:54Speaker 3: get away from possessed right hands. And the left one
- 47:56Speaker 3: started coming in too. It's like, okay, well, it's the sequel,
- 47:58Speaker 3: so he's getting doubled up. Just saw him off. It's fine.
- 47:59Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 48:01Speaker 3: And then we get the car.
- 48:03Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 48:03Speaker 3: And the first time I'm seeing the movie, I miss
- 48:05Speaker 3: the car. And I don't know how, because the second
- 48:07Speaker 3: time I see the movie, I'm going, oh, the car
- 48:09Speaker 3: was right frickin' there, center screen. How did I not
- 48:12Speaker 3: miss it? It's floating in the damn air. You know,
- 48:15Speaker 3: twisting and turning. How did I not see it? But, yeah.
- 48:18Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 48:19Speaker 3: We got the car, too.
- 48:19Speaker 1: Does he have that car just wrapped in bubble wrap now?
- 48:22Speaker 3: Because he's like, I need this.
- 48:23Speaker 1: It's really old, but I've got to keep it around
- 48:25Speaker 1: to put in all these damn movies.
- 48:26Speaker 3: There's got to be. This can't have been the same car.
- 48:29Speaker 1: I thought for a while they kept, like, it really
- 48:32Speaker 1: legitimately was. And they just kept transporting it to wherever
- 48:35Speaker 1: they were shooting this next thing.
- 48:36Speaker 3: Because it's in three Evil Dead movies, one Darkman movie.
- 48:40Speaker 3: a couple of his other side movies. It's in Drag
- 48:42Speaker 3: Me to Hell. It's in the entirety of the Ash vs.
- 48:45Speaker 3: Evil Dead series. And then it freaking shows up in
- 48:48Speaker 3: Doctor Strange 2!
- 48:50Speaker 1: There's got to at least be a version of it.
- 48:52Speaker 1: I would assume if they're using it, if you're driving
- 48:55Speaker 1: around it at this point, they've probably got to suck
- 48:57Speaker 1: a stunt car.
- 48:59Speaker 3: Just that big yellow bastard will not die, and I
- 49:02Speaker 3: love it.
- 49:06Speaker 1: It's funny, that's what it reminded me of tone-wise, when
- 49:10Speaker 1: you get into some of this stuff, is kind of the,
- 49:13Speaker 1: because that was sort of the return to old Sam
- 49:15Speaker 1: Raimi was Drag Me to Hell. He'd done so many
- 49:17Speaker 1: mainstream things before that, and then he went back and
- 49:20Speaker 1: was like, I'm going to make this.
- 49:21Speaker 3: It's cheap. It's gory.
- 49:23Speaker 1: It's going to be horrific fun. And that's where so
- 49:26Speaker 1: much of this kind of landed for me.
- 49:28Speaker 3: It was like.
- 49:28Speaker 1: Also because it's just relentless.
- 49:30Speaker 3: It is just.
- 49:31Speaker 1: That movie is so mean to its lead. And like,
- 49:35Speaker 1: there's moments in this where you feel like, like, I.
- 49:38Speaker 3: Feel bad for Dr. Strange. I feel bad for Wanda.
- 49:41Speaker 3: I feel bad for everybody involved.
- 49:43Speaker 1: And yet it just mercilessly keeps pummeling them like Bruce
- 49:46Speaker 1: Campbell's face. Like, it just, it's relentless.
- 49:50Speaker 3: Well, and on that, if you kind of think about it, like,
- 49:53Speaker 3: this has, like, the highest body count since Infinity War. Oh, yeah.
- 49:57Speaker 3: There's a lot of people dying in this movie. Yeah.
- 49:59Speaker 3: I mean, like, almost the entirety of Commer-tage. You know,
- 50:03Speaker 3: we get, like, a couple, like, little Doctor Strange, like,
- 50:06Speaker 3: the big green minotaur. That's Rintra. Now, he's, like, an
- 50:09Speaker 3: old student of Doctor Strange's, and he's been around the
- 50:12Speaker 3: comics for a long time. The African-American one was somebody
- 50:15Speaker 3: that just Threw in. I don't even know what her
- 50:17Speaker 3: name is. I know they even made a pop of
- 50:18Speaker 3: her character. I'm like, you had two scenes. You get
- 50:21Speaker 3: a figure? That's cool. At this point, everybody gets a pop.
- 50:24Speaker 3: But I was like, okay. Because when they came out
- 50:27Speaker 3: with her, I was like, I don't know who that is.
- 50:29Speaker 3: And I think I know my Doctor Strange there pretty well. Like, oh, okay.
- 50:32Speaker 3: But yeah. But also like, okay, you got your intro
- 50:35Speaker 3: up there. But yeah, I was like, you got all
- 50:36Speaker 3: these Kamar-Taj people getting killed. The entirety of the Illuminati
- 50:40Speaker 3: except for Morioh. Which is interesting that we left that
- 50:44Speaker 3: dangling participle. Of course. In the 838, we got one
- 50:48Speaker 3: pissed off Sorcerer Supreme that has a whole bunch of
- 50:51Speaker 3: dead compadres. He no longer has a super team anymore.
- 50:55Speaker 1: Again, everywhere you go, he's going to be pissed off
- 50:57Speaker 1: at Doctor Strange.
- 50:58Speaker 3: Yeah. And it's very interesting that we, you know, we
- 51:02Speaker 3: still talked, you know, saw Mordo, but never saw our Mordo,
- 51:07Speaker 3: who's basically still out there killing other magic users, apparently. Yeah. Um,
- 51:12Speaker 3: But then, you know, I'll get to it in a second,
- 51:15Speaker 3: but when we get to our little first cut scene,
- 51:17Speaker 3: we get a great callback and a character I've been
- 51:20Speaker 3: literally waiting for them to introduce since we brought in
- 51:22Speaker 3: Doctor Strange. But, yeah, but we like to see, you know, God,
- 51:27Speaker 3: who is this? Oliver Illuminati? Possibly Wanda? I don't think so, though.
- 51:33Speaker 1: Yeah, well, I mean, within the context of this.
- 51:35Speaker 3: Story, yes. I mean, that was our ending scene.
- 51:39Speaker 1: Version of this and I realized that as I was
- 51:41Speaker 1: you know three-fourths of the way into this movie and
- 51:43Speaker 1: she was going as dark as she could be I
- 51:46Speaker 1: was just like They're kind of going to have to get...
- 51:49Speaker 1: There's not really a redeeming her.
- 51:50Speaker 3: Within this story.
- 51:52Speaker 1: You can bring her back later. They'll always find a loophole. Again,
- 51:55Speaker 1: this movie has shown us they'll always find a loophole.
- 51:58Speaker 1: But within this movie, you're not going to be able
- 52:01Speaker 1: to be like, oh, it's fine now.
- 52:03Speaker 3: She's murdered too many people.
- 52:05Speaker 1: The only way to end this is to kill Wanda, essentially. So, yeah,
- 52:10Speaker 1: it took... It was just sort of dawning on me.
- 52:12Speaker 1: I was like, there's no coming back from this.
- 52:14Speaker 3: We're going to have to take... For his beloved... essential a.
- 52:17Speaker 1: Character as she has become in these movies, we're going
- 52:20Speaker 1: to have to take her out in the end of this.
- 52:21Speaker 1: I was like, that's a big move for them. That's crazy.
- 52:25Speaker 6: It is.
- 52:25Speaker 3: A lot of people were surprised by that. I mean, hell,
- 52:28Speaker 3: even The first time I saw the movie, like that
- 52:33Speaker 3: Illuminati scene where they're fighting with Wanda, and the first
- 52:36Speaker 3: moment that Black Bolt buys it, the dude sitting next
- 52:38Speaker 3: to me did not see that coming. And he was
- 52:42Speaker 3: startled by the fact that the King of the Inhumans
- 52:45Speaker 3: blew the back of his own head out.
- 52:47Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, I feel like the Reed Richards one was
- 52:50Speaker 1: pretty graphic.
- 52:51Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 52:52Speaker 1: I was like, the next minute, it's like, oh, okay.
- 52:55Speaker 1: I mean, I figured he'd probably be.
- 52:56Speaker 3: Gone, but wow. We pulled you apart like licorice.
- 53:00Speaker 1: Yeah, I was like, that is a gruesome way to
- 53:02Speaker 1: take you out.
- 53:03Speaker 3: Captain Carter got cut in half. Yeah, with her own shield.
- 53:09Speaker 3: Captain Marvel got the easiest one. She just got crushed
- 53:11Speaker 3: by a statue.
- 53:12Speaker 1: That was another one I took a little pleasure in.
- 53:15Speaker 1: As I've said, any of these superheroes that have too
- 53:17Speaker 1: much power start to get on my nerves. And that
- 53:20Speaker 1: was my issue with Captain Marvel. In our other version,
- 53:23Speaker 1: she's just too damn powerful. And by the end, it
- 53:25Speaker 1: was like, what do we need all these other heroes
- 53:27Speaker 1: for if she can do everything? So watching this version
- 53:29Speaker 1: of Captain Marvel just get served. Just watching her take
- 53:33Speaker 1: blow for blow from her and be like, yeah, and?
- 53:36Speaker 1: And by the end, just destroying her.
- 53:38Speaker 3: But see, that's the fun thing about all these characters
- 53:41Speaker 3: is Is that we've seen so many instances where someone
- 53:45Speaker 3: else tells you this is a very powerful person. They
- 53:49Speaker 3: themselves don't know that.
- 53:52Speaker 1: They don't realize the extent of what Wanda's packing.
- 53:55Speaker 3: Wanda didn't realize that. America did not realize that in
- 53:58Speaker 3: this film. And she started learning. Because in the comics,
- 54:01Speaker 3: America is basically like Superman who can also travel through
- 54:05Speaker 3: the multiverses. Cause she is like a badass. Like she's
- 54:09Speaker 3: got superpowers. Definitely.
- 54:10Speaker 1: Cause now we can't even like, she doesn't know what
- 54:13Speaker 1: her powers are, but it does seem like we're already like,
- 54:15Speaker 1: Oh yeah, she's got so much potential to be whatever
- 54:18Speaker 1: at this point. So it'll be interesting to see what
- 54:21Speaker 1: they do with her.
- 54:22Speaker 3: And she's frankly, she's kind of too interesting of a
- 54:24Speaker 3: character to like, buttoned down her origin so i'm glad
- 54:28Speaker 3: they got like okay you know the planet it looks
- 54:31Speaker 3: like she's from look like it's a nice place to
- 54:33Speaker 3: be and it is um in the comics basically kind
- 54:36Speaker 3: of what her origin is basically very similar at a
- 54:38Speaker 3: young age she you know used basically her multiversal powers
- 54:42Speaker 3: exploded on accident and she you know sent herself and
- 54:46Speaker 3: her moms into you know wherever else well in the
- 54:49Speaker 3: same process she also destroyed her own planet when she
- 54:51Speaker 3: did that but At the time, basically, her planet was, like,
- 54:55Speaker 3: you know, very welcoming of everybody. And that's why she's
- 54:58Speaker 3: got– her moms were basically part of, like– It's the
- 55:01Speaker 3: utopia version of– Right. Because I think her moms are either, like,
- 55:04Speaker 3: they were part of, like, some kind of governmental body
- 55:06Speaker 3: or law enforcement or something. They were important people in
- 55:09Speaker 3: their world. But, like, also, like– musical numbers would break
- 55:13Speaker 3: out at random points so like anybody who's like a
- 55:16Speaker 3: you know you know a musical fan and broadway fan
- 55:19Speaker 3: you would love this planet because like just random shit
- 55:22Speaker 3: like people will start singing and dancing and whatnot it's
- 55:24Speaker 3: just a thing that happens it's you know so it's
- 55:26Speaker 3: a very nice place to be and a very terrible
- 55:28Speaker 3: thing happened to it but it was completely an accident
- 55:30Speaker 3: so but i'm still like that's a great aspect of
- 55:33Speaker 3: her character and it's great representation for people. You know,
- 55:36Speaker 3: it's like, she's Latina, she's LGBTQ, you know, she's a
- 55:40Speaker 3: young character. So like, there's a lot of girls who
- 55:42Speaker 3: are seeing themselves now on the screen. Yeah. That's always awesome.
- 55:45Speaker 1: Well, and I like, again, sometimes not just Marvel, but
- 55:48Speaker 1: just in general in these, it's like, it's so bogged
- 55:51Speaker 1: down with trying to tell the story. This was like
- 55:54Speaker 1: almost that initial Spider-Man run of like, yeah, here's this character.
- 55:58Speaker 1: You'll figure out as we go what's going on with him.
- 56:00Speaker 1: We're not going to tie you down with all kinds
- 56:03Speaker 1: of backstory from the get-go it's like from the very
- 56:06Speaker 1: first scene like there she is and like we don't
- 56:09Speaker 1: know who she is essentially you know if you're from
- 56:11Speaker 1: the aspect of the movie it's like you're just like
- 56:14Speaker 1: okay who is this girl and what's going on and
- 56:16Speaker 1: like so it just kind of waits for the whole
- 56:17Speaker 1: movie to sort of unfold before you get to that
- 56:20Speaker 1: story i like that it doesn't devote time that you
- 56:23Speaker 1: don't want to or something that you're going to get
- 56:26Speaker 1: to anyway so it's Again, I think it's just an
- 56:28Speaker 1: interesting way to throw her in there and let you
- 56:31Speaker 1: sort of discover who she is while she's trying to
- 56:33Speaker 1: figure out who she is, powers-wise anyway.
- 56:36Speaker 3: And I think kind of going back to our praise
- 56:38Speaker 3: of Sam on this one here, you really see a
- 56:41Speaker 3: master filmmaker at work because a lot happens in this movie.
- 56:45Speaker 3: There's a lot of information, a lot of events that happen,
- 56:47Speaker 3: but it's our shortest Marvel movie in a long time.
- 56:50Speaker 3: We're under two and a half hours. We're like 2.15,
- 56:53Speaker 3: I think, was the runtime of this movie.
- 56:55Speaker 1: And it didn't feel it. It didn't feel over two.
- 56:58Speaker 3: Hours, really. It goes by fast. It has a lot
- 57:03Speaker 3: to do with the pacing, too. Literally, there's a lot
- 57:06Speaker 3: of running in this movie. There's a lot of being chased.
- 57:09Speaker 1: But again, it doesn't feel like it did that first
- 57:11Speaker 1: Doctor Strange. This one sort of works as a story
- 57:14Speaker 1: where that just felt like it was just going on.
- 57:16Speaker 1: I'm like, where are we going with all this running around?
- 57:18Speaker 1: where this feels like they do continually go from one
- 57:21Speaker 1: place to another, one parallel universe to another, but it
- 57:25Speaker 1: all feels like it's heading somewhere. So yeah, I love
- 57:28Speaker 1: the pacing and the planning out of all of these aspects.
- 57:33Speaker 3: And then of course, for deep Marvel fans, this movie
- 57:36Speaker 3: is just loaded with stuff. I mean, not just like
- 57:38Speaker 3: the events that happen and characters we see, and of
- 57:41Speaker 3: course get the Illuminati, that sort of thing like that.
- 57:44Speaker 3: But that first scene where Strange is jumping with America
- 57:47Speaker 3: through the multiverse, we're seeing kind of this roadmap of
- 57:50Speaker 3: all these places. There was so much stuff. Either you
- 57:56Speaker 3: got the weird cartoony or the paint one or the
- 58:01Speaker 3: puzzle block thing. That's more of the homage to a
- 58:04Speaker 3: lot of the artists who have gone through Doctor Strange.
- 58:06Speaker 3: The very psychedelic look. Steve Ditko, who co-created the character,
- 58:11Speaker 3: was a very conservative, very straight-laced, kind of weird cat.
- 58:14Speaker 3: But was into some very psychedelic stuff. Had to have... People...
- 58:21Speaker 3: You get on either side of the fence of which
- 58:23Speaker 3: Steve Ditko used psychedelic drugs or not. He had to have.
- 58:27Speaker 3: Because those early strange books... The art in them is
- 58:31Speaker 3: like nothing else that Marvel was ever doing. No one...
- 58:35Speaker 3: I mean, not even DC. No one was doing this
- 58:37Speaker 3: stuff until Jim Steranko started coming along and bringing pop
- 58:40Speaker 3: art into comics. And bringing mixed media into comics. Then, okay,
- 58:44Speaker 3: we start seeing a little more of that stuff. But
- 58:46Speaker 3: Steve Ditko brought it. Like, going from Spider-Man, which is
- 58:49Speaker 3: a very straight-laced teenager crawling up walls, to alternate dimensions,
- 58:54Speaker 3: dark dimensions, weird astral plane shit. I mean, all kinds
- 58:57Speaker 3: of stuff. You know, where, like, you could just, you know,
- 59:00Speaker 3: drop acid and look at a book of Doctor Strange
- 59:02Speaker 3: and have yourself a good four hours. I think that's dangerous.
- 59:07Speaker 1: If you're on acid and you start reading Doctor Strange, your.
- 59:10Speaker 3: Head might explode. Well, if you don't go anywhere else.
- 59:12Speaker 3: If you just stay right there and have someone maybe
- 59:14Speaker 3: keep an eye on you, getting you some water from
- 59:16Speaker 3: time to time, you might be okay.
- 59:16Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 59:17Speaker 3: I never touch the stuff, but... Come on.
- 59:21Speaker 1: Obviously somebody making comics did because look at this.
- 59:23Speaker 3: I mean, wow. There's a reason why there's pieces of
- 59:26Speaker 3: those art that are turning to blacklight posters. Yeah. There's
- 59:29Speaker 3: a reason. Nonetheless, we got to see a lot of
- 59:32Speaker 3: other stuff. Like that first wave they go into, you
- 59:36Speaker 3: see like these big gold faces with glowing eyes. That
- 59:39Speaker 3: is the Living Tribunal. That is the end-all, be-all of
- 59:43Speaker 3: justice and order in the entire multiverse. Not just our Earth,
- 59:48Speaker 3: like everywhere. There's these big universal constants that they really haven't...
- 59:54Speaker 3: The Celestials kind of tap dance on that, but we
- 59:58Speaker 3: really haven't got into... These guys, the Inbetweener, Eternity, Mephisto,
- 1:00:09Speaker 3: Nightmare himself is one of these guys. So these are
- 1:00:12Speaker 3: way beyond gods. Eternity himself basically makes up the entirety
- 1:00:18Speaker 3: of the universe. To see him in a... humanoid form.
- 1:00:21Speaker 3: You have to basically be outside the known universe, be
- 1:00:24Speaker 3: in the white space kind of stuff. You know, like
- 1:00:26Speaker 3: only a few people can go out. You're like normal
- 1:00:28Speaker 3: Jack and Joe go out there. They're either getting annihilated
- 1:00:31Speaker 3: or they go crazy. I mean, this is some weird
- 1:00:33Speaker 3: trippy stuff. So seeing just that little glimpse of him,
- 1:00:36Speaker 3: like more is coming. You saw like a prehistoric era.
- 1:00:41Speaker 3: That's the savage world or the savage land. Possibly the
- 1:00:46Speaker 3: era that had all the bugs and insects, that could
- 1:00:49Speaker 3: have been the microverse. So, I mean, the big futuristic
- 1:00:54Speaker 3: city we saw, that could have been any number of
- 1:00:57Speaker 3: futuristic cities. That could have been like Marvel 2099. That
- 1:00:59Speaker 3: could have been basically where Iron Man essentially does build
- 1:01:03Speaker 3: a shield around the entire world and kind of almost
- 1:01:05Speaker 3: rules the world with an iron fist and turns basically
- 1:01:08Speaker 3: major cities essentially into... fantastic fortress superstructures that, you know,
- 1:01:13Speaker 3: can almost transform into battle stations sort of thing. So,
- 1:01:16Speaker 3: you know, but also everyone else is also kind of
- 1:01:18Speaker 3: like controlled by technology where, you know, yes, you will
- 1:01:22Speaker 3: have a perfect life. You will look perfect, but guess what?
- 1:01:25Speaker 3: Your mind is mine.
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: You're following the system or else.
- 1:01:28Speaker 3: You know, so that could, I mean, it was a
- 1:01:31Speaker 3: fun roadmap for like things to possibly come or locations
- 1:01:36Speaker 3: that could be important later on.
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: That's the other thing that occurred to me watching this
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: is like, because we just had this, I was like,
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: this is just a live action. What if, because I mean,
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: we're seeing versions of things that we saw there. Only
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: we're seeing really well done live action versions.
- 1:01:54Speaker 3: And we saw live action, live action, Captain Carter. We
- 1:01:57Speaker 3: saw a live action zombie, Dr. Strange. Yeah.
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: And just the world falling apart. Like we were sort
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: of there in that episode. So yeah, it's like a
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: lot of the stuff going on there. Was already like, okay,
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: at the time we thought we were really kind of
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: pushing it for normal people coming in. That the what-ifs
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: really take you out onto the edges of like, eh,
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: there's a whole lot of weird stuff we've thrown in here.
- 1:02:20Speaker 3: But people were okay with it. So they're like, oh,
- 1:02:22Speaker 3: okay then.
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: Good thing, because here's this movie.
- 1:02:26Speaker 3: Yeah, and I'm really curious how... Like I said, I
- 1:02:30Speaker 3: know for a fact just the way things are going,
- 1:02:33Speaker 3: we're heading towards the Secret Wars storyline. Now, a little
- 1:02:35Speaker 3: background on that. In the 80s, they did one called
- 1:02:37Speaker 3: Secret Wars that basically they made like a toy line
- 1:02:39Speaker 3: out of it too. Yeah. Like flicker sticker shields.
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: Or like change– I remember those.
- 1:02:44Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah. Basically, what that premise was was that this
- 1:02:49Speaker 3: godlike being called the Beyonder created a planet and basically
- 1:02:53Speaker 3: took all the like top tier heroes and villains from
- 1:02:57Speaker 3: the Marvel Universe, stuck them there and said, okay. I
- 1:02:59Speaker 3: want you guys to fight it out and whoever wins
- 1:03:01Speaker 3: gets a big ultimate prize. Gets ultimate power or whatever.
- 1:03:04Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: When you have ultimate power, this is the kind of
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: stuff you come up with.
- 1:03:09Speaker 3: But he was basically kind of like bored and was
- 1:03:13Speaker 3: kind of a new presence. So he was just kind
- 1:03:15Speaker 3: of just a child playing with his abilities. Flash forward
- 1:03:18Speaker 3: about 20 some odd years later and Jonathan Hickman revives
- 1:03:22Speaker 3: that storyline. It basically says that guy was basically an
- 1:03:26Speaker 3: infant compared to the race he comes from. These guys
- 1:03:30Speaker 3: basically are world makers. They make multiverses. They make worlds.
- 1:03:34Speaker 3: They do everything. These guys got irritated by all the
- 1:03:38Speaker 3: multiversal breaking that we've been doing. So here's what they're
- 1:03:41Speaker 3: going to do. They're going to just wipe out everything
- 1:03:43Speaker 3: and start from scratch. They're going to know it. And
- 1:03:46Speaker 3: so basically at this point you get this, you know,
- 1:03:49Speaker 3: the Avengers and it's kind of an all hands on
- 1:03:51Speaker 3: deck situation where we're all fighting against these Beyonder characters
- 1:03:56Speaker 3: to keep our world intact.
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:03:58Speaker 3: Well, who saves us at the end of everything is
- 1:04:01Speaker 3: Doctor Doom. The worst yet best villain in the entirety
- 1:04:08Speaker 3: of comic book creation. Well, when he... reforms what is left.
- 1:04:14Speaker 3: It's basically kind of like a patchwork of the multiverse
- 1:04:16Speaker 3: in one planet. And he is the God King amongst
- 1:04:20Speaker 3: all of this thing. And like he has warped people's rallies.
- 1:04:24Speaker 3: Like basically the Reed Richards does not exist, but his
- 1:04:28Speaker 3: family is now his. Sue's his wife and all of
- 1:04:30Speaker 3: his kids are his. And, you know, he's got Dr.
- 1:04:32Speaker 3: Strange as kind of his master advisor and, you know,
- 1:04:37Speaker 3: everybody else kind of doing their own thing. Well, then
- 1:04:40Speaker 3: sooner or later, some people start figuring things out. This
- 1:04:42Speaker 3: isn't right. And they decide to fight back. And then
- 1:04:45Speaker 3: basically everything's returned back to normal. But it's a really
- 1:04:49Speaker 3: interesting story because you just kind of see like everything
- 1:04:53Speaker 3: all just like thrown in at once. Like there's one
- 1:04:56Speaker 3: cool storyline called 1602 Marvel where it's like Old West
- 1:04:59Speaker 3: kind of Marvel. And you've got like Captain America is
- 1:05:02Speaker 3: the sheriff of the town and Iron Man's the drunk
- 1:05:05Speaker 3: that tinkers in his barn that people think he's kind
- 1:05:08Speaker 3: of a wacko dude. And, you know, there's Bruce Banner
- 1:05:11Speaker 3: who basically he thinks himself as a scientist, but he's
- 1:05:14Speaker 3: addicted to laudanum or some kind of chemical that basically
- 1:05:17Speaker 3: makes him go crazy. You know, so it was like
- 1:05:20Speaker 3: really interesting takes on like an old west kind of
- 1:05:22Speaker 3: version of these guys. Or you had like a zombie
- 1:05:26Speaker 3: version of this. You had this version over here. It
- 1:05:29Speaker 3: was all over the place kind of stuff. Or they
- 1:05:31Speaker 3: would take like big, moments that we were familiar with
- 1:05:35Speaker 3: and did a what-if on, like, you know, what if
- 1:05:38Speaker 3: Thanos won and what would our world look like if
- 1:05:41Speaker 3: he won and was in control of things? You know,
- 1:05:43Speaker 3: we see a glimpse of that world. You know, so
- 1:05:45Speaker 3: it's all kinds of things. So whether or not we're
- 1:05:47Speaker 3: going to see anything of that great example in a
- 1:05:51Speaker 3: Secret Wars movie remains to be seen. I mean, we
- 1:05:54Speaker 3: haven't introduced Doctor Doom yet. So who would be our
- 1:05:58Speaker 3: catalyst to piece things back together again to be the
- 1:06:01Speaker 3: bad guy?
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: I mean, we just started inching our way towards the
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: full potential of Marvel all being in one place now.
- 1:06:08Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: It's like you get a Fantastic Four person. You get X-Men.
- 1:06:12Speaker 3: You get, like, we.
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: Haven't had all of them. Again, we were toying with
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: it in Spider-Man there. But, like, once you get to
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: this movie, it's like, well, it's all there now. We
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: just haven't expanded on it.
- 1:06:22Speaker 3: Yeah, we kind of brought the Inhumans back from obscurity.
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:06:25Speaker 3: Because their show didn't, you know, do well. Yeah. We
- 1:06:28Speaker 3: brought Anson Mount back to reprise his role. Not only that,
- 1:06:32Speaker 3: he's 100% accurate versus what he was in the fucking show.
- 1:06:36Speaker 3: You know, in the show, like, he had his mask
- 1:06:38Speaker 3: off the entire time. We barely saw him use his ability,
- 1:06:41Speaker 3: whatever else. And he found moments where he could speak.
- 1:06:44Speaker 3: I'm like, no! This is the greatest role for an
- 1:06:47Speaker 3: actor because it's all facial expressions. And pantomime or sign language.
- 1:06:52Speaker 3: Or you've got your wife with the crazy red hair
- 1:06:55Speaker 3: next to you that basically says what you're thinking. Because
- 1:06:57Speaker 3: that's one of her things she does. But, yeah, to
- 1:07:00Speaker 3: finally get to see a proper demonstration of Black Bolt's ability...
- 1:07:04Speaker 3: With him killing.
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: On himself.
- 1:07:06Speaker 3: Well, yeah, on himself.
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: But in general, yeah.
- 1:07:09Speaker 3: But when he basically gets to kill the 838 Doctor Strange.
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:07:12Speaker 3: That is how his stuff works. I mean, literally, that
- 1:07:16Speaker 3: was a whisper of him saying, I'm sorry. If he
- 1:07:19Speaker 3: shouted that, that planet would have been annihilated. And I'm
- 1:07:22Speaker 3: not being facetious. That is how strong he is. Yeah.
- 1:07:26Speaker 3: To see... Charles Xavier, you know, and he's in the
- 1:07:30Speaker 3: friggin' wheelchair from the 90s cartoon. And we even get
- 1:07:33Speaker 3: to hear that musical cue come in. You know, and him, like,
- 1:07:38Speaker 3: we don't see just a dude holding his temples and
- 1:07:40Speaker 3: nothing happens. We got these invisible waves coming out. It's like,
- 1:07:44Speaker 3: we're getting to see the types of demonstrations of abilities
- 1:07:47Speaker 3: that we want to see. And, you know, I know
- 1:07:50Speaker 3: Krasinski's little thing was a one-off stunt casting. I think
- 1:07:53Speaker 3: there might be a little more to that. I'll get
- 1:07:55Speaker 3: into that in just a second.
- 1:07:56Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:07:57Speaker 5: But.
- 1:07:58Speaker 3: Just seeing him just a little bit as Reed, I'm like,
- 1:08:01Speaker 3: that was a dream casting. His performance was just perfect.
- 1:08:04Speaker 3: Because Reed is just... It doesn't matter what's going on.
- 1:08:08Speaker 3: He's calm. He's in charge of the situation.
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: Again, I wouldn't have thought of him. But then as
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: soon as he was there, I was like, actually, he's
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: doing a good job. I was like, yeah. I was
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: kind of impressed. And just... I guess at some point
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: you'd be distracted because now everybody knows who he is
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: from so many other things. But.
- 1:08:27Speaker 3: Mostly.
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: I don't know. Now he's got so much crossover because he's...
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: Isn't he Jack Ryan or something?
- 1:08:33Speaker 3: Yeah, he's Jack Ryan.
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: He was Jack Ryan and he's making giant monster movies.
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: So I think he's crossed over enough now. He's not
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: just Office. But yeah, I think as you got into it,
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: I was like, no, I'd be fine with that if
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: they wanted to spin that off and do more with him.
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: I think that wasn't a bad job with.
- 1:08:51Speaker 3: Casting, actually. I agree, yeah. But the... Big, big rumor
- 1:08:57Speaker 3: that has some credibility behind it. that this might actually happen,
- 1:09:00Speaker 3: and I got a feeling that Marvel's kind of waiting
- 1:09:02Speaker 3: to announce this after the weekend, like we may be
- 1:09:05Speaker 3: hearing this about it next week. So, we shall see. So,
- 1:09:09Speaker 3: you know, hopefully by the time your show comes out,
- 1:09:12Speaker 3: for this episode, when it gets posted, this will actually
- 1:09:15Speaker 3: be the thing. We'll all know something. The big rumor...
- 1:09:18Speaker 3: Is that the John Watts leaving the Fantastic Four project
- 1:09:22Speaker 3: is a ruse. He's actually going to get the X-Men movie.
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: Oh, Lord.
- 1:09:29Speaker 3: He wanted something a little meatier. He's like, ah, Fantastic
- 1:09:31Speaker 3: Four is kind of fun, but I would really love
- 1:09:33Speaker 3: the X-Men. And they're like, okay, we thank you so
- 1:09:36Speaker 3: much for those three Spider-Man movies. You know what? You
- 1:09:38Speaker 3: get X-Men. We're not going to tell anybody just yet.
- 1:09:40Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:09:40Speaker 3: Because we got... This Doctor Strange movie coming out, oh,
- 1:09:44Speaker 3: you guys really wanted Krasinski as Reed Richards. Well, you
- 1:09:47Speaker 3: got him, but then we kill him off because we
- 1:09:50Speaker 3: are casting for a new movie.
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:09:53Speaker 3: But we'll give you a compromise, folks. Krasinski's going to
- 1:09:56Speaker 3: direct Fantastic Four.
- 1:09:58Speaker 2: God.
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: I mean, again, that's an interesting way to, and we've
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: seen him direct it. He's pretty solid as a director, so.
- 1:10:06Speaker 3: And we've seen also Marvel kind of pull a little
- 1:10:08Speaker 3: rope-a-dope kind of stuff before. They tell us one thing, oh,
- 1:10:12Speaker 3: you're going to see this, you're going to see, and
- 1:10:13Speaker 3: then we don't see this, but then you see this,
- 1:10:15Speaker 3: oh my God. So, yeah, this is coming from a
- 1:10:19Speaker 3: very credible source that this may be happening. Of course,
- 1:10:26Speaker 3: we're going to see a Fantastic Four movie far sooner
- 1:10:28Speaker 3: than we'll see an X-Men movie because we have a
- 1:10:30Speaker 3: logo for Fantastic Four. We're casting for the movie. There's
- 1:10:34Speaker 3: a script that is in some stage of drafting or
- 1:10:39Speaker 3: development or whatever else. So we don't have a director
- 1:10:42Speaker 3: just yet, but maybe we have had one the whole time.
- 1:10:45Speaker 3: The X-Men, though, we got our first mutant finally.
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:10:50Speaker 3: With Charles being introduced.
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: But then it becomes, what do you do? Like, how
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: much do we acknowledge what's come before since we've got
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: Charles still being Charles? You know, it's like we've got
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: Patrick Stewart still doing that version of him. So it's like,
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: are we bringing any of these other actors? I mean,
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: at this point, I would assume... Hugh Jackman is like,
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: leave me alone. I have other things to do. I've
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: got a Broadway show to put on. So yeah, I
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: would think he went out at this point, but you
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: can always sucker him back in for some other universe
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: crossover or something. But for the most part, I'm like,
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: do we take all these same characters? Are we starting
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: with them young again? Are we coming in in the
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: middle of the run? Like, yeah, there's so many questions
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: of like, where do we even start? start and who's
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: involved and how much are we carrying over or are
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: we starting from scratch but if that was the case
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: why is patrick stewart doing charles.
- 1:11:42Speaker 3: Xavier sure well see that's the thing though is again
- 1:11:44Speaker 3: like when they find when they made a designation like
- 1:11:47Speaker 3: okay you know rachel mcadam's character uh christine in the
- 1:11:51Speaker 3: 838 universe is talking like okay we've actually got somebody
- 1:11:54Speaker 3: who's mapped out the multiverse we have designated addresses for
- 1:11:57Speaker 3: you guys yeah you're 616 and We are 838. That's
- 1:12:02Speaker 3: right out of the books. The MCU is 616. Now,
- 1:12:04Speaker 3: it's interesting, though, because there's a lot of fans that complain, oh, well,
- 1:12:07Speaker 3: the comics are the 616 universe. Why couldn't the MCU
- 1:12:10Speaker 3: have been something else?
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: Its own separate thing.
- 1:12:12Speaker 3: Because it kind of is. It could have been. I
- 1:12:15Speaker 3: get it. But it's like, no, let's just.
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: You're nitpicking now.
- 1:12:18Speaker 3: You're nitpicking. Like, we're 616. Get over it. But so
- 1:12:22Speaker 3: we have an 838, so we're like, okay, we killed
- 1:12:24Speaker 3: off Captain Carter. That may not have been the Carter,
- 1:12:27Speaker 3: more than likely, that was in what if.
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: I mean, any of those people, that could have nothing
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: to do with what we do in the future. So
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: they could all be back, or they could all be
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: totally recast. Like, who knows?
- 1:12:36Speaker 3: And see, the Patrick Stewart reprising Charles Xavier opens the
- 1:12:41Speaker 3: door of like, we could possibly see some people returning
- 1:12:44Speaker 3: to roles. We could see a lot of new casting.
- 1:12:47Speaker 2: But.
- 1:12:50Speaker 3: Again, yeah, are we dealing with younger characters like in
- 1:12:53Speaker 3: first class? Are we dealing with like they've already formed
- 1:12:56Speaker 3: like the first Bryan Singer movie? Which way are we
- 1:13:01Speaker 3: going with this? And how do we introduce an entire
- 1:13:06Speaker 3: race of humans that have not been seen, heard of,
- 1:13:11Speaker 3: whatever else. Any of the stuff that's going on, yeah. Yeah,
- 1:13:14Speaker 3: and not bring them in from an alternate universe. Because
- 1:13:18Speaker 3: Kevin Feige has said, We're not bringing the X-Men in
- 1:13:21Speaker 3: from an alternate universe. That's too lazy. And I agree.
- 1:13:24Speaker 3: That is too lazy. But yeah, how do you have.
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: There is such a big story of just humans versus
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: mutants kind of thing. How do you introduce that in
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: a universe that we've already spent 10 plus years pinning
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: down all the things that are going on in this universe?
- 1:13:40Speaker 3: And we've discussed this before. I've said this theory before
- 1:13:44Speaker 3: that was my favorite theory is that we've already got
- 1:13:47Speaker 3: a way is the snap.
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:13:48Speaker 3: The snap of the blip. Basically, it has been so
- 1:13:50Speaker 3: important throughout the MCU, those events of half the world's
- 1:13:54Speaker 3: population disappearing and then them coming back and the repercussions
- 1:13:57Speaker 3: of the people coming back seem to be far more
- 1:14:00Speaker 3: devastating than when they went away. You know, we have
- 1:14:03Speaker 3: people that had tried to rebuild their lives and then
- 1:14:06Speaker 3: all of a sudden the thing they missed is now back.
- 1:14:08Speaker 3: We're like, oh, well, shit.
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: But I just.
- 1:14:10Speaker 3: Put together a life without you. It's like I moved
- 1:14:13Speaker 3: out of our house and I'm in a one-bedroom apartment.
- 1:14:15Speaker 3: All of a sudden my wife and kids are back.
- 1:14:17Speaker 3: How do I deal with this? Yeah, sort of thing
- 1:14:20Speaker 3: like that. So the theory could be that when people
- 1:14:24Speaker 3: came back from the blip, they didn't come back the
- 1:14:27Speaker 3: way they left. And so then you've got people who
- 1:14:31Speaker 3: are scared of their new abilities. They're hiding. And you've
- 1:14:35Speaker 3: got some instant... racism and fear because of the people
- 1:14:40Speaker 3: who don't have those abilities. It could have been like, okay,
- 1:14:45Speaker 3: Aunt Shirley who came back from the dead, now she's
- 1:14:48Speaker 3: got crazy I-beams coming out, can blow away a city
- 1:14:52Speaker 3: block without thinking, well, that's not my Aunt Shirley anymore.
- 1:14:55Speaker 3: Let's throw her in jail. Let's kill her. You've got
- 1:15:00Speaker 3: instant everything right there. It's in a delivery method that
- 1:15:05Speaker 3: we already know. Because we already know how important those
- 1:15:08Speaker 3: events are. Yeah. Because the shows just keep hammering it
- 1:15:11Speaker 3: into us. I mean, even, like, we don't really see
- 1:15:14Speaker 3: any repercussions in Doctor Strange 2 of the snap and
- 1:15:17Speaker 3: the blip, but we see a dead-ass Thanos. Yeah.
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: I mean, we know. And they're even talking about how
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: important that event was in different multiverses. Yeah.
- 1:15:26Speaker 3: It happened in different ways.
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: It happened in different ways. But it's obviously so important,
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: it keeps happening no matter where you are to some extent.
- 1:15:33Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, it's a huge thing that would have
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: changes and repercussions.
- 1:15:39Speaker 3: So that could be the easiest way to bring them in.
- 1:15:42Speaker 3: And it's a cool way of doing it, too. So
- 1:15:49Speaker 3: you could do that, but again, there's so many ways.
- 1:15:52Speaker 3: And I think if we get to something like the
- 1:15:55Speaker 3: Secret Wars where we get a big mashup of multiverse
- 1:15:58Speaker 3: and whatnot, We could very easily see Hugh Jackman as
- 1:16:01Speaker 3: a cameo in that movie.
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. Again, I think he's not opposed to cameos.
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: He's done that over the years, too. But he's so
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: invested in doing other things now and legitimately loves Broadway.
- 1:16:13Speaker 3: He loves stage work.
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: And he said, I like movies and all, but the
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: stage is a different level for me. So I think
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: he's fine with letting go of Logan more or less
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: for the rest of his run with minor things. Again,
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: with all of them, they'll show up if we need
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: a cameo. But, yeah, I don't know. I think that's
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: an interesting thing to have to deal with is where
- 1:16:36Speaker 1: we're going with this. You did mention the alternate universe
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: version of Rachel McAdams.
- 1:16:43Speaker 3: I like that.
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: Bonus points to Raimi and everyone involved with writing because.
- 1:16:49Speaker 3: She's a real character in this.
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: I feel like even that first movie, she got shortchanged.
- 1:16:53Speaker 3: It started off.
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: with a little bit of screen time. And then once
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: he becomes Mr. Eagle maniac and he has to go
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: train and like, we kind of lose her. So I
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: was like, it was great. Like once again, I was like, Oh,
- 1:17:02Speaker 1: she's really going to be in this. Like not, I
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: assumed it was the wedding at the beginning. It's like, Oh,
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: we paid to have her do her cameo and at
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: least reprise the role. But she had a legit, you know,
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: role in this movie, like in this story that we
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: were telling, she was, important and again like a very
- 1:17:20Speaker 1: instrumental step in dr strange becoming more of a well-rounded
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: less of an asshole like and sort of coming to
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: terms with who he is how much he loves her
- 1:17:30Speaker 1: and then how much whether he ends up with her
- 1:17:33Speaker 1: or not dealing with the fact that i still love
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: you either way yeah we're going to cross paths in
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: multi-universes so like we we are an important you know
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: dynamic in each other's lives regardless and But then also
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: him having to put that behind him in this version
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: of him. That like, well, that's not happening for me.
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: Something else might happen for him, as we see by
- 1:17:55Speaker 1: the end of it.
- 1:17:56Speaker 3: So, yeah.
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: But I thought that was really great to not just
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: write her off as like, all right, well, whatever. But
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: the fact that we got Rachel McAdams to come back
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: and then gave her a lot of really interesting stuff
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: to do.
- 1:18:08Speaker 3: Like, that was great. Yeah, you're right. It was very
- 1:18:11Speaker 3: clever writing because, you know, we... Understand that the relationship
- 1:18:15Speaker 3: between Steven and his Christine is like, I want to
- 1:18:17Speaker 3: protect you from my life. From me. I don't want
- 1:18:21Speaker 3: you caught up in this stuff. In the first movie,
- 1:18:23Speaker 3: she got caught up a little bit in it. The
- 1:18:25Speaker 3: whole hospital thing, she got caught up a little bit
- 1:18:27Speaker 3: in it. Got thrown in hardcore into this crazy world.
- 1:18:32Speaker 3: And kind of really wanted nothing to do with it.
- 1:18:34Speaker 3: And then saw all the other stuff that he had
- 1:18:36Speaker 3: to do with the Infinity War and all that jazz.
- 1:18:38Speaker 3: So we didn't even know what happened to her in
- 1:18:40Speaker 3: those events, but she at least had some knowledge of
- 1:18:42Speaker 3: what's going on and all that. And seemed like even
- 1:18:45Speaker 3: old Dr. West who basically, and that was a great callback.
- 1:18:47Speaker 3: The guy who basically operates on him is now sitting
- 1:18:50Speaker 3: next to him at the wedding of Strange is an ex-girlfriend,
- 1:18:55Speaker 3: and he's just still kind of like sticking the knife in, like, oh,
- 1:18:57Speaker 3: my cat died. Oh, yeah, my brother, too, by the way.
- 1:19:00Speaker 3: I love that, too. Yes, cats get priority first, then
- 1:19:03Speaker 3: family members. Yeah, that's how it works, really. But to
- 1:19:07Speaker 3: be able to bring Christine back into the story.
- 1:19:10Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:19:11Speaker 3: To give a character basically who knows a lot more
- 1:19:15Speaker 3: that's going on. So instead of our Christine getting smarter
- 1:19:18Speaker 3: and learning and developing, we just grabbed Christine from another
- 1:19:21Speaker 3: world who already was.
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: Who was doing all that in a different timeline, in
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: a different road. She's still essentially the same person, but
- 1:19:29Speaker 1: she just, different decisions, different life choices, and here she is.
- 1:19:33Speaker 3: And we have a great callback from the first movie, too.
- 1:19:37Speaker 3: Something that Steven failed to do that Christine fixed. So
- 1:19:40Speaker 3: when Christine's basically saving Strange from all the monsters, she
- 1:19:43Speaker 3: grabs that little, like, big gold bowl thing and sticks
- 1:19:46Speaker 3: a candle to it. It becomes a flamethrower. Yeah. In
- 1:19:49Speaker 3: the first movie, when Casilius and his guys are attacking
- 1:19:52Speaker 3: Steven when he first is in the Sanctum Sanctorum, he
- 1:19:55Speaker 3: doesn't know what all this stuff does. And he grabs
- 1:19:58Speaker 3: that golden thing and is pointed at Casilius. And nothing happens.
- 1:20:03Speaker 3: And Casilius is like, you don't know how to use
- 1:20:04Speaker 3: that thing, do you? And he obviously doesn't. Christine learned.
- 1:20:08Speaker 3: She knows how to use it. So that was really
- 1:20:10Speaker 3: cool to bring that call back in from the first movie.
- 1:20:13Speaker 3: But yeah, to get, you know, you know, some way
- 1:20:16Speaker 3: you basically, she got to be well used, much more
- 1:20:19Speaker 3: experienced in things, but then to also still get that
- 1:20:23Speaker 3: emotional write off.
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: Yeah. It was, it worked on both levels. Yeah. It
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: wasn't just that like, okay, now we're going to make
- 1:20:28Speaker 1: her part of this, you know, part of the story
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: with America. But like, she also was there to sort of,
- 1:20:35Speaker 1: finish what Doctor Strange needed in his life to be
- 1:20:38Speaker 1: able to go on and be like, okay, again, I'm
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: going to love you regardless, but doesn't mean we're going
- 1:20:44Speaker 1: to end up together. So, like, I need to finish
- 1:20:46Speaker 1: that and put that behind me, which is not at
- 1:20:49Speaker 1: all what he was doing by even the beginning of
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: this movie. So, like, he definitely, again, just continued to
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: grow as a character more than I would have expected
- 1:20:57Speaker 1: out of Doctor Strange.
- 1:20:59Speaker 3: But now we've got to talk about the ending of
- 1:21:01Speaker 3: this movie. Because we have two very important events. Namely,
- 1:21:05Speaker 3: one that we saw basically kind of our... Not our
- 1:21:08Speaker 3: cut scene. Kind of our little epilogue at the end
- 1:21:10Speaker 3: where Strange is... He's in some civvies now. He's walking
- 1:21:14Speaker 3: down the street, leaving his little bleaker street place. And
- 1:21:16Speaker 3: he's having a good day. And then he's got himself
- 1:21:18Speaker 3: a major headache. And suddenly he has sprouted a third
- 1:21:21Speaker 3: eye that we see from the evil Doctor Strange. So
- 1:21:24Speaker 3: now people are kind of wondering... Well, is he corrupted
- 1:21:27Speaker 3: by the Darkhold now?
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: That's kind of what that strange was telling him. It's like,
- 1:21:31Speaker 1: there's a price for all of this. And you used
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: all these things to do what you needed to do,
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: so there's a price.
- 1:21:39Speaker 3: But the interesting thing is this, is that him getting
- 1:21:43Speaker 3: the third eye may not necessarily be the price. No.
- 1:21:47Speaker 3: Because that is the Eye of Agamotto. Basically, he carries
- 1:21:51Speaker 3: that medallion around his chest, which is basically a symbolic
- 1:21:54Speaker 3: version of it. But the wizard Agamotto himself basically had
- 1:21:58Speaker 3: spells that he cast on himself that had him have
- 1:22:01Speaker 3: that third eye, which basically could break illusions. It could
- 1:22:04Speaker 3: see into other worlds, other multiverses. So it was literally
- 1:22:07Speaker 3: a mystic eye that could see and break spells that
- 1:22:11Speaker 3: caused visual impairment or whatever else. But that does lead
- 1:22:15Speaker 3: you down a road that could possibly be corruption. So
- 1:22:19Speaker 3: that's something he's eventually going to fight.
- 1:22:21Speaker 1: I do have a general doctor question. Why does he
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: get the necklace and the cloak?
- 1:22:29Speaker 3: The necklace and the cloak basically are kind of just
- 1:22:31Speaker 3: tools of the trade.
- 1:22:31Speaker 1: But they don't go specifically with the Supreme. Because when
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: he's not, he's still got them.
- 1:22:38Speaker 3: So I was like, those aren't part of the mantle.
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: Those don't get handed off to the next Sorcerer's Apprentice.
- 1:22:44Speaker 3: Well, the interesting thing is that traditionally the cloak usually does.
- 1:22:47Speaker 3: I would think at least one or the other, if
- 1:22:49Speaker 3: not both. Yeah, I mean, there may have been a
- 1:22:51Speaker 3: story there, or it could have been just basically because
- 1:22:54Speaker 3: of the nature of the... Essentially, when Strange died, the
- 1:23:00Speaker 3: cloak went with him.
- 1:23:01Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:23:02Speaker 3: So... Yes. No, it did. The cloak literally dusted with him.
- 1:23:07Speaker 3: So Wong would not have received the cloak when he
- 1:23:10Speaker 3: got the mantle when Strange died because it was dead too.
- 1:23:13Speaker 1: It's just as interesting because they keep playing that dynamic.
- 1:23:16Speaker 3: Like, yeah, I'm Sorcerer Supreme, by the way.
- 1:23:18Speaker 1: But I was like, well, how come he gets to
- 1:23:20Speaker 1: keep the cool stuff?
- 1:23:23Speaker 3: It's kind of like if you got a gold medal
- 1:23:26Speaker 3: at the Olympics because you initially won the silver and
- 1:23:30Speaker 3: then the dude who won the gold cheated so you
- 1:23:32Speaker 3: got the gold instead. That's Wong. That happens. So you
- 1:23:38Speaker 3: didn't get like the big ceremony or kind of big
- 1:23:42Speaker 3: transferal of everything and all the goods and wares and
- 1:23:45Speaker 3: problems and whatnot.
- 1:23:46Speaker 1: There's just an asterisk somewhere in an encyclopedia going, I
- 1:23:48Speaker 1: have him, but he's the winner.
- 1:23:50Speaker 3: That's kind of why we see in Spider-Man No Way Home,
- 1:23:53Speaker 3: Wong looks a little disturbed, you know, like a little disheveled.
- 1:23:55Speaker 3: He's running around doing this. He forgot to do this thing.
- 1:23:59Speaker 3: He didn't get the... He wasn't prepared. He didn't get
- 1:24:03Speaker 3: the human resources binder.
- 1:24:04Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:24:06Speaker 3: He didn't get the binder telling you all the company
- 1:24:08Speaker 3: dress code and all that kind of jazz. He didn't
- 1:24:10Speaker 3: get all that stuff.
- 1:24:10Speaker 1: I just thought that even from the last couple of
- 1:24:12Speaker 1: times we've seen. Because Wong is very instrumental now in
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: everything that's going on.
- 1:24:16Speaker 3: I was like, how come he don't get the cloak?
- 1:24:18Speaker 3: Or doesn't have the necklace? Yeah. And it's interesting, too,
- 1:24:22Speaker 3: that we still have the necklace because it's main function.
- 1:24:24Speaker 3: It's not the time stone anymore, right? Well, its main
- 1:24:26Speaker 3: function was holding the time stone. Yeah. But granted, it's
- 1:24:30Speaker 3: still technically the Eye of Agamotto as a... Symbolic piece. Representation, yeah.
- 1:24:35Speaker 3: But then now he's got the real thing. The real one. So, yeah,
- 1:24:38Speaker 3: we'll see how that works out. But to our first
- 1:24:41Speaker 3: cutscene was very important because people were like, who is
- 1:24:45Speaker 3: this lady who is calling him and where are we going? Well,
- 1:24:48Speaker 3: first off, where we're going is call back to the
- 1:24:50Speaker 3: first movie because we're going back to the Dark Dimension.
- 1:24:53Speaker 3: This is where Dormammu came from. The Dark Dimension is
- 1:24:57Speaker 3: a major, major, major place in the Doctor Strange universe
- 1:25:01Speaker 3: and we They kind of gave it short shrift in
- 1:25:04Speaker 3: the first movie. And they kind of made Dormammu look
- 1:25:06Speaker 3: like a dumbass. He's not. He is a quite dangerous,
- 1:25:11Speaker 3: formidable demon. Clea, on the other hand, is A, Dormammu's niece. B,
- 1:25:19Speaker 3: she is a warlord. Because that's how the structure of
- 1:25:21Speaker 3: government works in the Dark Dimension. Warlords rule. They have
- 1:25:25Speaker 3: their territory. We're getting to that point. Give us time.
- 1:25:28Speaker 3: But most importantly, she is the Sorceress Supreme of the
- 1:25:31Speaker 3: Dark Dimension. So she's good, so we don't have to
- 1:25:36Speaker 3: worry too much about that. Whatever Doctor Strange has caused
- 1:25:41Speaker 3: that caused an incursion there, I'm interested to see what's
- 1:25:43Speaker 3: colliding with the Dark Dimension. But Clea eventually becomes Strange's wife.
- 1:25:52Speaker 1: That's what I found out.
- 1:25:53Speaker 3: Again, I didn't know much about that before.
- 1:25:55Speaker 1: Beforehand but i knew that's we were going somewhere obviously
- 1:25:58Speaker 1: yeah indy and then looking at i was like well
- 1:26:00Speaker 1: that makes even more sense on this like i have
- 1:26:03Speaker 1: to close this open wound that i had with my
- 1:26:06Speaker 1: former flame who has now obviously moved on without me
- 1:26:09Speaker 1: and i need to do the same thing yeah put
- 1:26:12Speaker 1: that behind me and at least make peace with it
- 1:26:14Speaker 1: yeah so i thought that again makes this an even
- 1:26:17Speaker 1: more satisfying story for him as he's dealing with Her among.
- 1:26:22Speaker 3: That's what's funny.
- 1:26:23Speaker 1: In the middle of the world falling apart and people
- 1:26:25Speaker 1: being killed right and left, it's like he's also still
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: dealing with the fact that he's had a weird relationship
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: over the last several, several years. Still kind of getting
- 1:26:33Speaker 1: over that. So, again, this is a really well done
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: screenplay as well, just to be able to piece all
- 1:26:39Speaker 1: of this stuff together and balance it as well as
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: it does.
- 1:26:42Speaker 3: And to have Charlize Theron cast as Clea, the casting
- 1:26:46Speaker 3: gods smiled greatly upon us for that one. Because... That
- 1:26:49Speaker 3: is a perfect casting because Clea is a strong woman.
- 1:26:54Speaker 3: She is not afraid of shit. She is far more
- 1:26:58Speaker 3: formidable of a sorcerer than Steven is because she's been
- 1:27:00Speaker 3: doing it long.
- 1:27:01Speaker 1: Yeah, he was always kind of... Again, that's why I
- 1:27:03Speaker 1: had issue with him in the first one. I was like,
- 1:27:05Speaker 1: why do I even care about this guy? He's grown
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: into it in these last several outings. But yeah, it
- 1:27:11Speaker 1: would be interesting to see somebody who feel like they
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: deserve it where he just sort of got it.
- 1:27:17Speaker 3: And also Clea is a lot older. I guess, you know,
- 1:27:21Speaker 3: magic stuff and different alternate dimensions. Time works differently. But
- 1:27:24Speaker 3: she's like, I think, hundreds of years old.
- 1:27:26Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:27:27Speaker 3: So that's why she's much more formidable of a sorcerer
- 1:27:29Speaker 3: because she's been doing it. And granted... It's kind of
- 1:27:33Speaker 3: like if you become a cop in South Central Los Angeles.
- 1:27:36Speaker 3: You are practicing your craft in the worst place. Or
- 1:27:39Speaker 3: you're in downtown Detroit or whatnot. It's like, you've been
- 1:27:42Speaker 3: through hell already.
- 1:27:43Speaker 1: Your 10 years is 50 years for a normal cop.
- 1:27:46Speaker 3: Yeah. And then like, okay, so that's your first gig.
- 1:27:49Speaker 3: And then your second gig is Mayberry.
- 1:27:50Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:27:51Speaker 3: So it's like, okay. It's like, you know. So that's
- 1:27:55Speaker 3: kind of what Clea's situation is. You know, like coming
- 1:27:57Speaker 3: from the dark dimension over to Earth, like shit just
- 1:28:00Speaker 3: gets real easy. Mm-hmm. So, but yeah, I'm very curious
- 1:28:03Speaker 3: to see what's going to be going on over there.
- 1:28:05Speaker 3: But I'm excited that we have this major character that
- 1:28:08Speaker 3: has been missing from the Doctor Strange canon. Yeah. To
- 1:28:11Speaker 3: get that graven actress and to bring back the proper
- 1:28:14Speaker 3: prominence the Dark Dimension has.
- 1:28:16Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:28:17Speaker 4: So, yes.
- 1:28:18Speaker 3: Very exciting.
- 1:28:19Speaker 6: I was.
- 1:28:20Speaker 3: I popped more for her appearance than I did the
- 1:28:23Speaker 3: entirety of the Illuminati. Because I expected them... Which is
- 1:28:26Speaker 3: saying something, yeah. Well, I expected them.
- 1:28:28Speaker 1: I knew.
- 1:28:30Speaker 3: There was a lot of speculation. Basically, there were people
- 1:28:32Speaker 3: who complained that we didn't see Tom Cruise as Tony Stark.
- 1:28:35Speaker 3: I'm like, that would have been a fun thing to do,
- 1:28:37Speaker 3: but I think also that would have.
- 1:28:41Speaker 3: Soiled the memory of Tony Stark.
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: I did think it was weird, though, because they're showing
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: through all these multiverses, there's so many things that are
- 1:28:50Speaker 1: just sort of. true regardless they just get changed they
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: butterfly effect in different directions so the fact that there's
- 1:28:56Speaker 1: no iron man presence anywhere in anything in this movie
- 1:29:00Speaker 1: i was like that's a little strange just because how
- 1:29:03Speaker 1: instrumental he is in our universe that there isn't a
- 1:29:06Speaker 1: version of him or a dead version of him or
- 1:29:09Speaker 1: like something left over in these other ones. Like we,
- 1:29:12Speaker 1: but again, I think it's just, they want to put
- 1:29:13Speaker 1: that behind them. We did a lot of Iron Man.
- 1:29:16Speaker 1: We want to move on with some new people.
- 1:29:17Speaker 3: I get that.
- 1:29:18Speaker 1: Like, I appreciate that actually, but it seems like it
- 1:29:21Speaker 1: should have been there to some extent.
- 1:29:22Speaker 3: And if you notice that 838 world was very anti-technology.
- 1:29:27Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:29:27Speaker 3: You know, we had some technology, the streetlights and the
- 1:29:30Speaker 3: cars and the old stuff like that, you know, but
- 1:29:32Speaker 3: like the Baxter foundation had a ton of technology, but
- 1:29:35Speaker 3: like the regular townspeople, like, They're all in blacks and
- 1:29:38Speaker 3: grays and monochrome kind of tones. And the buildings were
- 1:29:44Speaker 3: very natural. We had a lot of flowers and a
- 1:29:46Speaker 3: lot of plant life we saw. So there wasn't a
- 1:29:49Speaker 3: big structure on technology of buildings and stuff like that.
- 1:29:53Speaker 3: So that's just not the universe for him. Well, it
- 1:29:56Speaker 3: may have been a world where Tony Stark never became
- 1:29:58Speaker 3: Iron Man. And maybe Tony didn't live that long. He
- 1:30:01Speaker 3: may have just stayed an industrialist. Got killed by terrorists, probably. Yeah,
- 1:30:06Speaker 3: he may have not survived that missile attack. There was
- 1:30:10Speaker 3: no cave for him. Yeah, I mean, he may have
- 1:30:12Speaker 3: got blown up with that missile. So there's all kinds
- 1:30:16Speaker 3: of ways that could have gone for him. But it's
- 1:30:19Speaker 3: also interesting because basically in the comics, Tony is a
- 1:30:23Speaker 3: member of the Illuminati. He's a core member. Because they've
- 1:30:26Speaker 3: gone through different roster changes. But when they initially... Brought
- 1:30:30Speaker 3: out the Illuminati. It was Tony, Charles, Black Bolt, Namor, Strange,
- 1:30:36Speaker 3: Reed Richards. I think that was it. Those six were
- 1:30:39Speaker 3: the originals. And then later on, Hank McCoy the Beast
- 1:30:42Speaker 3: was in for a little bit. Captain America was in
- 1:30:43Speaker 3: for a little bit, but he didn't work out too well.
- 1:30:46Speaker 3: Because basically he would take the high ground with kind
- 1:30:48Speaker 3: of stuff sometimes.
- 1:30:49Speaker 1: Of course.
- 1:30:50Speaker 3: There were a couple of instances where Doctor Strange or
- 1:30:52Speaker 3: Charles had to do stuff to basically make Steve forget
- 1:30:55Speaker 3: what he decided upon. Or maybe make him change his mind.
- 1:30:59Speaker 3: This is maybe not a good team, actually. That's the
- 1:31:02Speaker 3: problem with the Illuminati, is that their sole reason for
- 1:31:05Speaker 3: getting together was to stop major events before they happened,
- 1:31:09Speaker 3: to kind of nip it in the bud or whatever else,
- 1:31:11Speaker 3: and nine out of ten times they essentially caused those events.
- 1:31:15Speaker 3: Or if they prevented one thing from happening, they made
- 1:31:19Speaker 3: something worse happen down the road. Which is, again, how
- 1:31:22Speaker 3: all of this works.
- 1:31:23Speaker 1: You never know what is going to Any change you
- 1:31:27Speaker 1: make is going to make other changes. And, again, dominoes. Yes.
- 1:31:31Speaker 3: Lord knows what it comes to. I mean, even one point,
- 1:31:34Speaker 3: you know, in probably one of the darkest times of
- 1:31:35Speaker 3: the Illuminati's history, Loki and Doctor Doom were members. And
- 1:31:39Speaker 3: not in, like, the fun kind of Loki way. Like
- 1:31:42Speaker 3: the old school evil Loki. Yeah. Sell everybody out and
- 1:31:46Speaker 3: kill everyone. Yeah. So, you know, it's a very... rough
- 1:31:52Speaker 3: kind of uh structure for this group here so but
- 1:31:55Speaker 3: i like kind of getting like you know alternate members
- 1:31:57Speaker 3: like okay well we we got reed we got black
- 1:31:59Speaker 3: bull we got charles you know and strange is kind
- 1:32:01Speaker 3: of there he was a member but okay we didn't
- 1:32:04Speaker 3: put tony in there but yeah let's have a little
- 1:32:05Speaker 3: fun captain marvel let's bring in captain carter there you
- 1:32:07Speaker 3: know that was kind of fun there but yeah i
- 1:32:10Speaker 3: just i was kind of thinking there may have been
- 1:32:13Speaker 3: another swerve there too because normally in the marvel universe
- 1:32:17Speaker 3: the police for the multiverse is the captain britain corps Yeah.
- 1:32:21Speaker 3: And there's basically a, you know, Captain Britain was initially introduced,
- 1:32:25Speaker 3: I think, like in like Marvel Team-Up or something like that.
- 1:32:27Speaker 3: But he's basically kind of a mystically powered Captain America,
- 1:32:32Speaker 3: so to speak. He has a suit of armor that
- 1:32:33Speaker 3: he wears that supposedly is forged from Excalibur. And it
- 1:32:36Speaker 3: gives him like super strength and flight abilities and stuff
- 1:32:39Speaker 3: like that. But he also is able to travel in multiverses.
- 1:32:42Speaker 3: And in every multiverse, there is a Captain Britain, whether
- 1:32:45Speaker 3: they are male, female, alien, animal, whatever else. There's always
- 1:32:49Speaker 3: a Britain core.
- 1:32:50Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:32:52Speaker 3: And his sister is a member of the X-Men. She
- 1:32:54Speaker 3: is Psylocke. So they've been a lot of switching around,
- 1:32:58Speaker 3: interacting with the mutants in the multiverse and all kinds
- 1:33:01Speaker 3: of stuff. So I was kind of expecting maybe a
- 1:33:03Speaker 3: Captain Britain appearance in there. We didn't get that. But
- 1:33:07Speaker 3: to get our Illuminati in there was fun. But like
- 1:33:09Speaker 3: I said, Cleo was far more a surprise for me.
- 1:33:12Speaker 3: And I popped way more for her.
- 1:33:15Speaker 1: There's definitely promise of where we're going with that.
- 1:33:18Speaker 3: Yeah. And that's just kind of the small term, like
- 1:33:21Speaker 3: for his world. Like I said, the door has been
- 1:33:23Speaker 3: kicked wide open for what's going to happen. But it's
- 1:33:26Speaker 3: interesting because some of our other projects that are coming up,
- 1:33:29Speaker 3: like Secret Wars we're going to see, or Secret Invasion
- 1:33:32Speaker 3: we're going to see later on, deals with the Skrulls. Yeah.
- 1:33:35Speaker 3: And kind of them, like a sect basically taking over
- 1:33:38Speaker 3: in all aspects of human life that we didn't know about.
- 1:33:43Speaker 3: So that could introduce possibilities for potential characters, but doesn't
- 1:33:47Speaker 3: quite fit in there. Armor Wars doesn't quite fit in there.
- 1:33:52Speaker 3: So I'm kind of wondering where some of the other
- 1:33:54Speaker 3: multiversal stuff is going to start coming in. Definitely in Quantumania,
- 1:33:58Speaker 3: the third Ant-Man film, we're going to see more of
- 1:34:00Speaker 3: that because they're going full deep in the quantum universe.
- 1:34:03Speaker 3: That's a major portion there. Maybe we'll see something in
- 1:34:06Speaker 3: the Marvels movie. I don't know. But I'm kind of
- 1:34:09Speaker 3: wondering where our next... doorway to the multiverse aside from
- 1:34:12Speaker 3: Ant-Man would be.
- 1:34:13Speaker 1: Yeah, because how far out are we talking for another
- 1:34:16Speaker 1: Doctor Strange? I mean, that's two to four years, you know.
- 1:34:19Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, it took all of ten years to
- 1:34:21Speaker 3: build our way to Infinity War. Now, Feige said it's
- 1:34:25Speaker 3: not going to be that long of a build to
- 1:34:26Speaker 3: our next event film, but it will still be a
- 1:34:29Speaker 3: lengthy build. So, you know, maybe we're going to see
- 1:34:31Speaker 3: five to eight years, you know, removed from Endgame before
- 1:34:35Speaker 3: we get to our next event. But still, nonetheless, we've
- 1:34:37Speaker 3: got I mean, we've got another Black Panther movie coming
- 1:34:40Speaker 3: up here, and, you know, another Guardians, another Thor movie
- 1:34:45Speaker 3: coming out. We've got, you know, Guardians Christmas special. We've
- 1:34:49Speaker 3: got a spooky Halloween special. You know, so there's all
- 1:34:52Speaker 3: kinds of shit they're throwing at us.
- 1:34:54Speaker 1: We're definitely having fun with some of these, too. I
- 1:34:56Speaker 1: like that, that it's not such a big ordeal that
- 1:34:59Speaker 1: we can't stop for a minute and have a Christmas
- 1:35:01Speaker 1: special or something ridiculous.
- 1:35:04Speaker 3: And this is the fun thing. This Christmas special, like,
- 1:35:07Speaker 3: James Gunn has promised that a beloved Marvel character is
- 1:35:10Speaker 3: going to be introduced into this Christmas special. So the
- 1:35:13Speaker 3: speculation is wild who that's going to be. We know
- 1:35:15Speaker 3: it's not Adam Warlock because he's going to be introduced
- 1:35:17Speaker 3: in the third film. Yeah, we already threw that out there.
- 1:35:20Speaker 3: He's kind of a beloved character. He's a very interesting character, too.
- 1:35:23Speaker 3: This is one of those periphery space guys who has
- 1:35:28Speaker 3: somewhat godlike abilities and is a very complex sort of guy.
- 1:35:31Speaker 3: So he's not your according to Hoyle hero. He's not
- 1:35:35Speaker 3: even human. He's not even an alien. He's a complete construct.
- 1:35:39Speaker 1: No.
- 1:35:40Speaker 3: But then he also gets these mystical cosmic abilities as
- 1:35:44Speaker 3: well that basically just expands his consciousness beyond anything. So
- 1:35:48Speaker 3: whether we're going to see that aspect of the character
- 1:35:50Speaker 3: or not, we will see. But it's interesting to kind
- 1:35:53Speaker 3: of have him come into the play after Infinity War
- 1:35:57Speaker 3: and Infinity Gauntlet and stuff like that because In the comics,
- 1:36:00Speaker 3: he played... He was the key to it all. He
- 1:36:03Speaker 3: was the key. As the heroes go, there were maybe
- 1:36:07Speaker 3: four that were the primary... These are the most important
- 1:36:10Speaker 3: heroes in the story. Warlock was one of those four.
- 1:36:14Speaker 3: Strange and Silver Surfer were two of the others. These
- 1:36:17Speaker 3: were crucial guys to that storyline, and he wasn't even
- 1:36:21Speaker 3: in it. Hell, the Surfer wasn't even in it.
- 1:36:24Speaker 1: While we're talking about crazy, big multiverse... things and james
- 1:36:30Speaker 1: gunn tie-in yeah this has been at least last year
- 1:36:33Speaker 1: and a half has been quite a year and a
- 1:36:35Speaker 1: half for a giant eyeballed multi-tentacled creatures because as we
- 1:36:40Speaker 1: opened this movie i was like you know I've seen
- 1:36:43Speaker 1: something like this lately, and I don't care because this is.
- 1:36:45Speaker 3: So much fun.
- 1:36:46Speaker 1: Just watching him fight with this big, giant, multi-tentacled monster.
- 1:36:50Speaker 3: But see, we saw James Gunn finally bring Starro to
- 1:36:55Speaker 3: the big screen in the DC universe, which that's an
- 1:36:58Speaker 3: interesting character as well. But this one, in the film
- 1:37:02Speaker 3: we had to call it Gargantos. In the comics we
- 1:37:05Speaker 3: know that as Shuma Gorath. They kind of punked him
- 1:37:09Speaker 3: out a little bit in the movie. Shuma-Gorath is far
- 1:37:11Speaker 3: more deadly and dangerous because he's a being that can
- 1:37:16Speaker 3: exist on multiple planes at once. While he is in
- 1:37:20Speaker 3: our universe in this physical construct form that is able
- 1:37:23Speaker 3: to be defeated on another plane, he's A-OK.
- 1:37:27Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:37:29Speaker 3: He's also a kind of being that basically how he
- 1:37:33Speaker 3: comes in our universe is more traditionally... a corrupted form. Like,
- 1:37:37Speaker 3: somebody has to basically try to bring him into our
- 1:37:41Speaker 3: universe or is literally, like, consuming him in a physical
- 1:37:47Speaker 3: or mythical sort of way to gain his power to
- 1:37:51Speaker 3: bring him into the universe. But unfortunately, he's got tied
- 1:37:55Speaker 3: up in Robert E. Howard, Conan writes, because in the
- 1:37:59Speaker 3: Conan comics, this character has been used somewhat because, I
- 1:38:05Speaker 3: think it was... One of his wizardy bad guys, not
- 1:38:10Speaker 3: Thulsa Doom, but another one of the wizardy bad guys,
- 1:38:15Speaker 3: has always been kind of associated with Shuma Gorath. And
- 1:38:18Speaker 3: so there was times that literally they would use him
- 1:38:20Speaker 3: in the comics, and then this wizardy character would kind
- 1:38:24Speaker 3: of come over in our modern day world a few
- 1:38:25Speaker 3: times too. So there was kind of some rights tied
- 1:38:29Speaker 3: up so we couldn't call him Shuma Gorath in the
- 1:38:30Speaker 3: movies so we had this stupid Gargantos name. And then
- 1:38:33Speaker 3: we punked him out. But yeah. Nonetheless, he's... It was
- 1:38:36Speaker 3: fun either way. It was fun just to have him there.
- 1:38:39Speaker 3: And they also kind of missed out that he does talk.
- 1:38:41Speaker 4: No.
- 1:38:41Speaker 3: He doesn't speak like he has a mouth but he
- 1:38:43Speaker 3: kind of like invades your head and talks to you
- 1:38:45Speaker 3: that way.
- 1:38:45Speaker 6: No.
- 1:38:46Speaker 3: I just thought that was fun. Mmm. Ending once again.
- 1:38:49Speaker 1: That led me back to my once. I was like, well,
- 1:38:51Speaker 1: we're going to poke him in the eye eventually. And
- 1:38:54Speaker 1: then just the giant eye popping out.
- 1:38:56Speaker 3: And falling. I was like, oh. Sam loves it. Oh,
- 1:38:59Speaker 3: Sam Raimi. He loves his eyeball horror. He certainly does.
- 1:39:02Speaker 3: You can't watch a Sam movie without somebody's eyes getting
- 1:39:05Speaker 3: poked out. And then you get to see an eyeball
- 1:39:07Speaker 3: getting flung around the room or something.
- 1:39:09Speaker 1: But yeah, that was definitely one of the more Sam
- 1:39:12Speaker 1: Raimi signature. But like I said earlier, just to get
- 1:39:14Speaker 1: back to the shooting style too, so much of it
- 1:39:17Speaker 1: is weird camera movements camera angles we've got at some
- 1:39:22Speaker 1: point the camera itself is almost pov of what we're
- 1:39:25Speaker 1: fighting i mean it's stuff that we don't see in
- 1:39:27Speaker 1: the marvel universe normally.
- 1:39:29Speaker 7: So we see those evil dead movies but we see
- 1:39:30Speaker 7: those in evil dead yeah that's why i was like
- 1:39:32Speaker 7: that's why i'm like this is definitely a i don't
- 1:39:35Speaker 7: know if it's just what sam was like look if
- 1:39:38Speaker 7: you want me to come do stuff in your universe
- 1:39:41Speaker 7: you've got.
- 1:39:41Speaker 1: To let me do what i want to do or
- 1:39:44Speaker 1: if marvel is loosening the grip i don't know because
- 1:39:47Speaker 1: they they definitely let him have reign of what he
- 1:39:51Speaker 1: does and like that that worked i think great in
- 1:39:55Speaker 1: this so i hope they let more directors do that
- 1:39:57Speaker 1: kind of stuff but.
- 1:39:59Speaker 3: I i seem to think too like there may have
- 1:40:01Speaker 3: been like some loosening like you said there or it
- 1:40:03Speaker 3: may have just been okay here is a seasoned filmmaker
- 1:40:07Speaker 3: he's done three big superhero movies already he knows what
- 1:40:10Speaker 3: he's doing But even then, they.
- 1:40:14Speaker 1: Brought in some big names that they sanded the edges
- 1:40:17Speaker 1: off of in the past.
- 1:40:19Speaker 3: Yeah, I was kind of expecting with Kenneth Branagh being
- 1:40:21Speaker 3: brought into the third Thor movie that that was going
- 1:40:23Speaker 3: to be a little more Shakespearean than it was. And
- 1:40:25Speaker 3: it wasn't. That one barely... It.
- 1:40:28Speaker 1: Certainly doesn't feel like you brought Kenneth Branagh in to
- 1:40:31Speaker 1: do a movie. It's just another Marvel movie. And again,
- 1:40:35Speaker 1: the lesser of... Still, when Ragnarok is so much more...
- 1:40:41Speaker 1: I would much rather watch Ragnarok than either of those
- 1:40:43Speaker 1: first two. Including Kenneth Branagh's movie.
- 1:40:46Speaker 3: It's crazy. You're absolutely right, though. It's so weird because
- 1:40:51Speaker 3: while tonally, the Kenneth Branagh movie and the second film,
- 1:40:54Speaker 3: which I can't remember the director's name, but I know
- 1:40:56Speaker 3: he did some Game of Thrones stuff. So I was thinking, okay, well,
- 1:40:58Speaker 3: Game of Thrones do. But no, you took a great
- 1:41:01Speaker 3: Thor villain being Malachi and made him boring as shit.
- 1:41:05Speaker 1: I think both of those movies are boring. Whereas we
- 1:41:08Speaker 1: have so much fun in that third one.
- 1:41:10Speaker 3: The first one is a decent movie just because you
- 1:41:13Speaker 3: have good performances.
- 1:41:14Speaker 1: It's a decent origin story. But again, it spends so
- 1:41:17Speaker 1: much time doing the origin story that there's barely anything else.
- 1:41:20Speaker 1: I'm like, it's fine. But like I said, with most
- 1:41:23Speaker 1: of them, I don't need to revisit it.
- 1:41:24Speaker 3: I've seen it. It's fine.
- 1:41:26Speaker 1: I like the pet shop.
- 1:41:27Speaker 3: That's about it.
- 1:41:28Speaker 1: Most of the rest of it's pretty lame.
- 1:41:30Speaker 3: But yeah, what Taika Waititi did with... you know, Ragnarok
- 1:41:34Speaker 3: and then what he's going to do with Love and Thunder. Yeah.
- 1:41:36Speaker 3: I mean, it's just, it's taking Thor and making him,
- 1:41:40Speaker 3: you know, this like bright, crazy kind of fun, but
- 1:41:43Speaker 3: still having these horrible dark elements. They're going to be
- 1:41:46Speaker 3: in this movie. That's the thing. It's like the Love
- 1:41:48Speaker 3: and Thunder trailer that's out right now.
- 1:41:50Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 1:41:50Speaker 3: Everybody's like, oh, that's fun.
- 1:41:52Speaker 6: It's going to be this.
- 1:41:52Speaker 3: We're going to see a female Thor. Folks. We haven't
- 1:41:55Speaker 3: even seen our villain yet. Gore the God Butcher.
- 1:42:00Speaker 1: That was the last. There was Ragnarok, too. I was like, it's.
- 1:42:04Speaker 3: Amazing how fun and light.
- 1:42:07Speaker 1: It feels at moments when you take into account everything
- 1:42:11Speaker 1: that's going on in that movie and all the horrible
- 1:42:14Speaker 1: aspects that come into play and stick and have lasting
- 1:42:18Speaker 1: effect on the Thor universe and everybody else around him.
- 1:42:21Speaker 1: I was just like, It is a rough movie if
- 1:42:24Speaker 1: you take it out of context, but somehow having him
- 1:42:27Speaker 1: as a director makes it so much fun and infuses
- 1:42:29Speaker 1: so much lightheartedness to it that, like, it's so rewatchable.
- 1:42:34Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, he's introduced so many, you know, fun elements,
- 1:42:39Speaker 3: but still able to kind of balance that darkness. But,
- 1:42:41Speaker 3: like I said, I'm just looking forward to seeing it.
- 1:42:45Speaker 3: I've kind of made some notes of stuff because, like,
- 1:42:48Speaker 3: We're seeing a lot more like celestial beings, like Moon
- 1:42:52Speaker 3: Knight introduced three gods.
- 1:42:54Speaker 1: Well, here's the thing.
- 1:42:56Speaker 3: In this storyline that we're about to get into with
- 1:42:59Speaker 3: Thor fighting with this gore character, there's a body count
- 1:43:03Speaker 3: of a lot of gods, of a lot of different religions.
- 1:43:07Speaker 3: You know, not just Thor's buddies.
- 1:43:10Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:43:10Speaker 3: Like, that scene we see where, like, there's, like, a
- 1:43:12Speaker 3: snowy landscape. There's, like, this big giant beast. That is
- 1:43:15Speaker 3: literally a shot taken out of the comics. And that
- 1:43:18Speaker 3: is somebody's god that's lying dead on the ground. And
- 1:43:22Speaker 3: Thor's like, uh. And that look on his face is
- 1:43:25Speaker 3: sheer horror of what he's seeing because he knows who
- 1:43:27Speaker 3: that god is. You know, we see the back of
- 1:43:31Speaker 3: a shot that looks like Olympus because that is. And
- 1:43:34Speaker 3: that is Zeus we are seeing. We know from the
- 1:43:37Speaker 3: casting that Russell Crowe is playing Zeus. But there's a
- 1:43:41Speaker 3: very crucial point of Hercules. Hercules is basically the Greek
- 1:43:46Speaker 3: version of Thor, not just in our mythology that we
- 1:43:49Speaker 3: know here as human beings, but in the MCU. The
- 1:43:53Speaker 3: fun thing is that Thor has been on this journey
- 1:43:56Speaker 3: of discovery lately, learning who he is and kind of
- 1:43:58Speaker 3: getting a little more mature and whatever else.
- 1:44:01Speaker 1: Grounding himself, yeah. Yeah.
- 1:44:04Speaker 3: If we remember the Party Thor episode of What If,
- 1:44:08Speaker 3: that's Herc. Herc is not aware that there's a Me
- 1:44:12Speaker 3: Too movement. He is all about getting drunk, having sex
- 1:44:16Speaker 3: with all the women, and then maybe getting into a
- 1:44:19Speaker 3: fight and winning the day. But he's all about the
- 1:44:22Speaker 3: glory and the combat and the sex and the partying.
- 1:44:25Speaker 3: Which is what sort of started.
- 1:44:27Speaker 1: I mean, that's why we don't really care about Thor
- 1:44:30Speaker 1: in the beginning, because we're like, Who is this guy?
- 1:44:32Speaker 3: And he's been doing that for a thousand years.
- 1:44:34Speaker 1: You know, it's like so watching him become a real
- 1:44:37Speaker 1: character is what's been interesting these last that last third
- 1:44:41Speaker 1: movie and then going into this one and his crossover
- 1:44:44Speaker 1: with the Avengers. Like you're watching him become human in
- 1:44:47Speaker 1: some ways. And that's been the interesting part, not the
- 1:44:50Speaker 1: party boy that he used to be.
- 1:44:55Speaker 3: I kind of hope we introduce Hercules and that's the
- 1:44:59Speaker 3: Herc we meet. We get this kind of, oh, God,
- 1:45:02Speaker 3: I used to be like that guy, sort of thing
- 1:45:04Speaker 3: like that. I mean, Herc's still a good guy. He
- 1:45:06Speaker 3: will still fight the bad guy and whatever else, but
- 1:45:10Speaker 3: he has not gone on the journey of self-discovery just yet.
- 1:45:16Speaker 3: But the other interesting thing we have not gotten into
- 1:45:19Speaker 3: that we saw at the tail end of that trailer
- 1:45:20Speaker 3: is basically that is a Jane Foster holding a rebuilt Mjolnir.
- 1:45:25Speaker 1: I've noticed it because I keep looking at that arm.
- 1:45:29Speaker 3: Obviously, Natalie's been working out because she's a little ripped.
- 1:45:32Speaker 3: And that's the thing, too, folks. That's not CG. That's
- 1:45:34Speaker 3: not makeup. Miss Portman has been hitting thy gym. I
- 1:45:39Speaker 3: was just like, damn. That one shot of her, I
- 1:45:41Speaker 3: was like, all right.
- 1:45:43Speaker 1: I question whether that was part of the right casting,
- 1:45:45Speaker 1: but no, no. She stepped up.
- 1:45:47Speaker 3: Here's the weird thing is that you don't know. There's
- 1:45:49Speaker 3: a couple of stills they've released online where you see
- 1:45:54Speaker 3: there's one where she and Thor are standing next to
- 1:45:55Speaker 3: each other where she's not wearing a helmet. And you
- 1:45:57Speaker 3: see a little more of the arms, but... Seeing her
- 1:46:00Speaker 3: out of costume, that's where you notice the physique change.
- 1:46:04Speaker 3: Because it reminds me of that SNL sketch where Fred
- 1:46:12Speaker 3: Armisen's playing Barack Obama. And then basically when he gets mad,
- 1:46:15Speaker 3: he turns into The Rock. That's like it's Natalie Portman.
- 1:46:18Speaker 3: It's like The Rock Portman. Because it's like we know skinny, tiny, little,
- 1:46:23Speaker 3: petite Natalie Portman for the entirety of her career. And
- 1:46:26Speaker 3: then jump forward to this movie, and I've seen behind-the-scenes photos.
- 1:46:30Speaker 3: She's walking to set, and she's wearing a t-shirt and jeans.
- 1:46:34Speaker 3: It's like, which way is the gym? Oh, it's that way.
- 1:46:40Speaker 3: She's got trapezius neck muscles, and the chest is just...
- 1:46:48Speaker 3: I'm like, holy shit, this lady is jacked!
- 1:46:50Speaker 1: Which is impressive, because again, it'd be different if this worked.
- 1:46:53Speaker 1: 15 years ago but like she's not and again with
- 1:46:58Speaker 1: all the actors but I'm like that's I'm just saying
- 1:47:00Speaker 1: from a real world standpoint she's not a kid anymore
- 1:47:03Speaker 1: so I'm like that's way harder to do when you're
- 1:47:05Speaker 1: getting older now she's also got kids I'm like this
- 1:47:08Speaker 1: stuff has got to be rough on you physically to
- 1:47:11Speaker 1: put that kind of transformation into a into effect so
- 1:47:14Speaker 1: points to her because I'm like that has to be
- 1:47:16Speaker 1: an uphill battle it's disturbing to me that she's not
- 1:47:20Speaker 1: a kid because I still kind of think of her
- 1:47:22Speaker 1: as the professional she's still that little kid and then
- 1:47:24Speaker 1: I have to do the math and go oh god
- 1:47:26Speaker 1: she's a grown up like.
- 1:47:27Speaker 3: She's fully a grown up now like she's getting close
- 1:47:29Speaker 3: to 40 yeah I.
- 1:47:31Speaker 1: Was like that's why I'm thinking I'm like so trying
- 1:47:33Speaker 1: to do that kind of a turn on your body
- 1:47:35Speaker 1: at 40 versus.
- 1:47:36Speaker 3: 20 is like Majorly different. I mean, look at Willem Dafoe,
- 1:47:41Speaker 3: who is in his late 60s and did all, if
- 1:47:44Speaker 3: not most of his stunts for No Way Home. Yeah.
- 1:47:46Speaker 3: Insisted upon that.
- 1:47:48Speaker 1: So, I mean, when they step up, I got to
- 1:47:51Speaker 1: give them credit.
- 1:47:52Speaker 3: Yeah. But the whole dichotomy of Jane being worthy, having
- 1:47:58Speaker 3: a hammer, having the hammer that was destroyed by Hela. Yeah.
- 1:48:02Speaker 3: And that look on Thor's face is complete surprise. Like,
- 1:48:06Speaker 3: what is that? And what's going on? So there's going
- 1:48:12Speaker 3: to be a lot going on in this movie that
- 1:48:14Speaker 3: that trailer just doesn't even touch on yet.
- 1:48:17Speaker 1: Yeah, there's plenty to figure out as we get into it.
- 1:48:20Speaker 1: into that one, which I'm assuming we'll be back before
- 1:48:22Speaker 1: long discussing that.
- 1:48:23Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 1:48:23Speaker 1: It's not too far before that one's out.
- 1:48:26Speaker 3: July, yeah.
- 1:48:27Speaker 1: That'll be here before we know it.
- 1:48:29Speaker 3: I know, I know. But yeah, I'm very excited about
- 1:48:32Speaker 3: seeing Gore the God Butcher on. Getting Christian Bale to
- 1:48:35Speaker 3: play him is a good choice because this is a guy...
- 1:48:39Speaker 3: who is basically started out as kind of like just
- 1:48:41Speaker 3: a lowly, whatever else he is. He's an alien, you know,
- 1:48:45Speaker 3: worshiped his deity, whatever else. And then basically a truth
- 1:48:48Speaker 3: is broken to him. And he realized, Oh wait, religion
- 1:48:52Speaker 3: and gods are complete bullshit. He gets this weapon of
- 1:48:56Speaker 3: complete power that is able to kill all these guys.
- 1:48:59Speaker 3: He goes, you know what? That seems like a good
- 1:49:00Speaker 3: idea to me. And I'm going to do that. Just
- 1:49:02Speaker 3: jumps from place to place to place. Like, are you
- 1:49:04Speaker 3: a God? Dead, dead, dead, dead. You know? So, And,
- 1:49:09Speaker 3: you know, Earth is next.
- 1:49:10Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:49:12Speaker 1: It's definitely interesting where they have to go with this one.
- 1:49:16Speaker 3: Yeah. So we may see a high body count in
- 1:49:18Speaker 3: this one, too. We don't have any gods left, at
- 1:49:20Speaker 3: least the Norse stuff. But we've got plenty of Egyptian
- 1:49:24Speaker 3: gods now. We were going to introduce some Greek gods.
- 1:49:26Speaker 3: And I'm sure we've got some other religions we're going
- 1:49:28Speaker 3: to show as well.
- 1:49:29Speaker 1: This is definitely, yeah, uncharted territory to some extent.
- 1:49:34Speaker 3: So it'll be interesting. Yes.
- 1:49:38Speaker 1: Anything else on this one other than more Bruce Campbell
- 1:49:42Speaker 1: punching himself.
- 1:49:43Speaker 3: In the face. And you know what? The best use
- 1:49:46Speaker 3: of a cut scene to let you know everything's over
- 1:49:48Speaker 3: since Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Pretty much. It's just, finally,
- 1:49:53Speaker 3: it's over. Boom, cut to black.
- 1:49:55Speaker 1: Like, ah, just, yeah.
- 1:49:57Speaker 3: That was a great chuckle there at the end.
- 1:49:59Speaker 1: And that led to, which I was, it's interesting. Normally,
- 1:50:03Speaker 1: either dorky people get up to leave when we get
- 1:50:06Speaker 1: to that, either the first credits roll or even when
- 1:50:08Speaker 1: we get to the mid-credits scene. But this one, everybody
- 1:50:11Speaker 1: stayed there, which is no surprise now. I'm more surprised
- 1:50:13Speaker 1: when people still get up. But usually it's like an
- 1:50:16Speaker 1: odd silence. There was just geek chatter the whole credits.
- 1:50:21Speaker 1: And then like we got to the end and there
- 1:50:23Speaker 1: was like geek shaming and which, because there were, I
- 1:50:28Speaker 1: just hear this guy going, look, if you don't know
- 1:50:29Speaker 1: who Bruce Campbell is, like, there's this whole little geek
- 1:50:33Speaker 1: shaming going on, and I was like, well, again, like,
- 1:50:36Speaker 1: it depends on who you're talking to, because there's a
- 1:50:38Speaker 1: lot of people, this may be the only Sam Raimi
- 1:50:42Speaker 1: movie they've seen, or the only thing outside of Spider-Man
- 1:50:44Speaker 1: they've seen, so, like, His other stuff, he's made a lot,
- 1:50:48Speaker 1: but his other off stuff is never super successful financially.
- 1:50:53Speaker 3: Unless somebody's asking themselves, what's the dude from Burn Notice
- 1:50:55Speaker 3: doing on here? Yeah, that's probably the other thing he's
- 1:50:58Speaker 3: most known for.
- 1:50:59Speaker 1: So, yeah, it's like, it is interesting that, like, you're
- 1:51:03Speaker 1: sort of shoving a couple of different groups of people,
- 1:51:05Speaker 1: the mainstream people versus the geeks together.
- 1:51:09Speaker 3: It was a world colliding sort of thing. Because, yeah,
- 1:51:11Speaker 3: I mean, you know... I think I saw it on
- 1:51:15Speaker 3: Thursday afternoon. Yeah, it was around late in the afternoon
- 1:51:18Speaker 3: when I first saw it. And decent-sized crowd, but not huge.
- 1:51:22Speaker 3: The crowd was bigger on Saturday, obviously. Yeah. But I
- 1:51:26Speaker 3: noticed a lot more... laughs on the Saturday crowd seeing
- 1:51:30Speaker 3: Bruce than I did in the Thursday crowd. But there's
- 1:51:35Speaker 3: a lot more younger people in the crowd. But then
- 1:51:37Speaker 3: the group of people I was with, my wife knows
- 1:51:39Speaker 3: who Bruce Campbell is. Yeah, I would think the younger
- 1:51:41Speaker 3: ones are the ones that aren't going to.
- 1:51:42Speaker 1: Unless they're horror fans, they're not going to know.
- 1:51:44Speaker 3: Yeah, my sister and her fiance, they knew, but my
- 1:51:47Speaker 3: niece and nephew were not familiar because though they have
- 1:51:50Speaker 3: watched horror movies, they just haven't gotten around to the
- 1:51:52Speaker 3: Evil Dead stuff yet. I think, yeah, that's the thing.
- 1:51:54Speaker 1: Unless you're specifically a horror fan... And you went back
- 1:51:57Speaker 1: and did your homework. Like, if you're younger, why would
- 1:51:59Speaker 1: you know Uber's camera?
- 1:52:01Speaker 3: No offense. I love the guy.
- 1:52:02Speaker 1: But, you know, it's not like he's a household name
- 1:52:05Speaker 1: outside of his little universe.
- 1:52:06Speaker 3: Right.
- 1:52:07Speaker 1: He's a huge star in his universe. But, like, for
- 1:52:10Speaker 1: regular mainstream people, yeah, Burn Notice is probably your go-to.
- 1:52:13Speaker 3: And that's such a crazy thing about his career.
- 1:52:17Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:52:17Speaker 3: I mean, like, you can literally have a room full
- 1:52:20Speaker 3: of 20 people. And when he walks in the room...
- 1:52:24Speaker 3: five of those people are going to go completely shit. Like,
- 1:52:28Speaker 3: they're dropping to their knees, bowing to him. You're going
- 1:52:31Speaker 3: to have ten people in that room going, I recognize
- 1:52:34Speaker 3: him from something, or he's a funny guy. And then
- 1:52:37Speaker 3: you're going to have the other five people go, who
- 1:52:39Speaker 3: the fuck is this dude, and why are those people bowing?
- 1:52:41Speaker 1: That was like that the first time I saw him
- 1:52:43Speaker 1: in the real world, which was when he was doing
- 1:52:45Speaker 1: a signing for Briscoe County. And there were geeks in
- 1:52:50Speaker 1: black t-shirts lined up to have him sign Evil Dead posters.
- 1:52:54Speaker 1: And then there were like moms with little kids in
- 1:52:56Speaker 1: cowboy outfits.
- 1:52:57Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:52:58Speaker 1: And like the moms were like, I mean, I saw
- 1:53:00Speaker 1: that show and like he's, The one that I was
- 1:53:04Speaker 1: next to was just like commenting, I think, because she
- 1:53:06Speaker 1: thought he was handsome.
- 1:53:08Speaker 3: But she had no idea who he was from Evil Dead. Well,
- 1:53:10Speaker 3: she is correct. She just watched.
- 1:53:12Speaker 1: Briscoe and was like, I like this cowboy guy.
- 1:53:14Speaker 3: He's handsome. She is correct. He is a handsome man.
- 1:53:17Speaker 3: You're not wrong either way. It was just funny.
- 1:53:18Speaker 1: That was the first time I saw those worlds collide
- 1:53:21Speaker 1: because it was all little kids that like Briscoe.
- 1:53:23Speaker 3: Yeah. dorks in black.
- 1:53:25Speaker 1: T-shirts waiting for for evil dead stuff so yeah it
- 1:53:28Speaker 1: was such a weird collision there and it's just gotten
- 1:53:32Speaker 1: more weird the number of years have.
- 1:53:34Speaker 3: Gone on and no crime wave fans whatsoever yeah i'm
- 1:53:37Speaker 3: just you know that's disappointing what are you gonna do
- 1:53:40Speaker 3: i mean at least the evil dead fans at least
- 1:53:42Speaker 3: know that movie exists maybe where they've seen it or
- 1:53:43Speaker 3: not but you can't consider yourself a sam raimi fan
- 1:53:48Speaker 3: if you've not seen crime wave and if you Don't
- 1:53:52Speaker 3: have some level of enjoyment of that movie. You can't
- 1:53:54Speaker 3: love the whole thing. I can understand if you're like, okay,
- 1:53:58Speaker 3: I like some parts of it, but there's some things
- 1:54:00Speaker 3: that's too much. But there are elements where you can
- 1:54:05Speaker 3: appreciate the ridiculousness of this movie.
- 1:54:07Speaker 1: It's sort of all or nothing with especially older Sam Raimi.
- 1:54:10Speaker 1: It's like if you get his sense of humor, then
- 1:54:13Speaker 1: you're on board. And just his style. Again, he's not subtle.
- 1:54:18Speaker 1: As a director, he got a little more refined as
- 1:54:21Speaker 1: he got polished and bigger budgets. But it's still in there,
- 1:54:25Speaker 1: as we see in this movie. It is still as
- 1:54:29Speaker 1: hardcore as it once was. You just have to give
- 1:54:31Speaker 1: him license to be like, okay, we're in a crazy multiverse.
- 1:54:34Speaker 1: You can do whatever the hell you want.
- 1:54:35Speaker 3: Oh, can I now? Okay. That's the fun thing. This
- 1:54:39Speaker 3: is a budget bigger than Army of Darkness, bigger than
- 1:54:42Speaker 3: Drag Me to Hell. Oh, yeah. By far. This is
- 1:54:45Speaker 3: the largest budget horror movie he's had, and it just
- 1:54:48Speaker 3: happens to be a superhero movie, too.
- 1:54:50Speaker 1: And it, well, I mean, and that's the thing. First,
- 1:54:52Speaker 1: I thought it was just going to be like touches
- 1:54:54Speaker 1: of it. But by the time we get to full
- 1:54:56Speaker 1: on shoving myself into a dead body, that then the
- 1:55:00Speaker 1: last half of the movie is going to be throwing
- 1:55:03Speaker 1: itself around, zombying through scenes. I was just like, this is.
- 1:55:08Speaker 3: Your hero's missing half his face.
- 1:55:10Speaker 1: Yeah, I was like, this is not a minor aspect
- 1:55:12Speaker 1: of the story. This is a giant zombie creature that's
- 1:55:17Speaker 1: become our hero now. I was like, that is... Only
- 1:55:20Speaker 1: Sam Raimi can pull this off in this budget, in
- 1:55:23Speaker 1: this universe.
- 1:55:24Speaker 3: And that's why I'm seeing it. Because, granted, we saw
- 1:55:26Speaker 3: a little bit of controversy with reception for Moon Knight.
- 1:55:29Speaker 3: Some people got it. Some people didn't. The fans... Got it.
- 1:55:34Speaker 3: And we're there for it. And so there were people
- 1:55:35Speaker 3: that expected different things, whatever else. I'm one of those people.
- 1:55:38Speaker 2: Sure.
- 1:55:39Speaker 3: And I'm kind of seeing a little bit from this
- 1:55:41Speaker 3: as well. Because I knew, like, okay, there's going to
- 1:55:44Speaker 3: be some confusion with the multiversal stuff. We're doing it
- 1:55:47Speaker 3: right by kind of just, you know, giving you little bits,
- 1:55:50Speaker 3: a little bit more, a little bit more.
- 1:55:51Speaker 1: I mean, we've done two movies of easing you into
- 1:55:53Speaker 1: it now. So, like, we had a fake version, we
- 1:55:55Speaker 1: had a real version, and now.
- 1:55:56Speaker 3: Here we are. Well, two movies in a six-episode series
- 1:55:59Speaker 3: of Count Loki. That too.
- 1:56:00Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:56:01Speaker 3: So, you know. We're kind of easing you more into it,
- 1:56:03Speaker 3: but it's going to get crazier and complex as time
- 1:56:06Speaker 3: goes on. But, yeah, to still have, you know, all
- 1:56:10Speaker 3: these definitive Sam Raimi horror elements. Yeah. So dark. And
- 1:56:16Speaker 3: to have traditional Doctor Strange elements, too. Yeah. You know,
- 1:56:20Speaker 3: him possessing bodies and being, you know, him being over here,
- 1:56:24Speaker 3: but then doing something over here without a physical presence.
- 1:56:27Speaker 3: That's right out of the books. You know.
- 1:56:29Speaker 1: The evil creatures, the black things. following them or like,
- 1:56:33Speaker 1: but that's just through and through horror. And I'm just like,
- 1:56:36Speaker 1: how did he sandwich all this in to a Marvel movie?
- 1:56:39Speaker 3: Congratulations. Cause I love it. Yeah.
- 1:56:41Speaker 1: I'm like, it is so dark and like so creepy
- 1:56:45Speaker 1: that I was like, what's the rating on this? Are
- 1:56:47Speaker 1: you sure this isn't art? Cause like it gets dark
- 1:56:52Speaker 1: just tone wise, not just the murdering that goes on
- 1:56:55Speaker 1: the right and left, but just overall that last half
- 1:56:58Speaker 1: is just like, dark and creepy and like i'm at
- 1:57:01Speaker 1: home in it but i'm just like i'm surprised i
- 1:57:04Speaker 1: think it just helps that it's so well made but
- 1:57:07Speaker 1: that's what like you were saying like as complex as
- 1:57:10Speaker 1: things are have been and are going to continue to
- 1:57:12Speaker 1: get i think that's what makes the difference i think
- 1:57:15Speaker 1: if you give it to somebody who knows what they're
- 1:57:17Speaker 1: doing and knows how to make all this come into
- 1:57:19Speaker 1: play and work so effortlessly. Like, that's what we need.
- 1:57:24Speaker 1: If they start giving it to people that don't know
- 1:57:26Speaker 1: what they're doing, or you've got a studio overly involved
- 1:57:29Speaker 1: that starts messing with things, it's gonna get clunky. So, like, yeah,
- 1:57:33Speaker 1: you need somebody with a vision, and let them kind
- 1:57:36Speaker 1: of run with it, and hopefully they know what they're doing,
- 1:57:38Speaker 1: and it works like this movie.
- 1:57:39Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm very, now that we've got Warner Media and
- 1:57:44Speaker 3: Discovery Plus have done their merger and stuff like that,
- 1:57:46Speaker 3: and I know there's some house cleanings and things they
- 1:57:48Speaker 3: want to do, but On the movie side of things,
- 1:57:52Speaker 3: the people behind Warner have said, look, we understand we
- 1:57:55Speaker 3: need kind of some structure to our DC universe. It's
- 1:57:59Speaker 3: kind of all over the place. It has been. There
- 1:58:01Speaker 3: isn't really any kind of connection. We basically need a
- 1:58:03Speaker 3: Kevin Feige. Yeah. But that being said, we also recognize
- 1:58:08Speaker 3: the fact that some of our characters... need better promise. Like,
- 1:58:12Speaker 3: we have done a great disservice to Superman. You know, like,
- 1:58:16Speaker 3: we're all about Batman right now. We're just Batman, Batman, Batman.
- 1:58:19Speaker 3: Batman makes the money. That's all they got. In the comics, too.
- 1:58:22Speaker 3: There's like 18 Batman comics out right now. And like
- 1:58:25Speaker 3: three Superman books. And no one reads Superman. Yeah, so...
- 1:58:30Speaker 3: That's the thing. They were like, we want to get
- 1:58:32Speaker 3: Superman back into prominence. And also a lot of these
- 1:58:35Speaker 3: other characters that haven't had their day in the sun.
- 1:58:39Speaker 3: Get them back in there. And so like, okay, cool.
- 1:58:41Speaker 3: It's like, well, if you want to give Superman prominence,
- 1:58:46Speaker 3: you want to get people to care about him again.
- 1:58:49Speaker 3: Do the story that fans have been asking for. The
- 1:58:52Speaker 3: controversial one of basically don't tell our Superman story. Tell
- 1:58:57Speaker 3: the alternate universe Superman story where he is black, he
- 1:59:01Speaker 3: is the president of the United States, and everybody knows
- 1:59:04Speaker 3: he's Superman.
- 1:59:05Speaker 1: See, we just gave black Adam.
- 1:59:08Speaker 3: The Brock needs to be president, as we've seen. What
- 1:59:11Speaker 3: the hell? Well, the main casting we've seen for that,
- 1:59:14Speaker 3: and the actors trying to bring that out, is Michael B. Jordan.
- 1:59:17Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:59:17Speaker 3: Which would work, yeah. He's probably a little too young
- 1:59:20Speaker 3: to be the president, but... But definitely, if you want
- 1:59:23Speaker 3: a black Superman, yeah, there you go, right there.
- 1:59:25Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, he can pull it off.
- 1:59:27Speaker 3: But that's the thing. It's like, okay, we've, you know, like, yes, traditionally,
- 1:59:30Speaker 3: you know, Superman is a white character. He's traded by
- 1:59:32Speaker 3: two Jewish guys. It's basically fantasy for kicking Nazi ass. No.
- 1:59:38Speaker 3: But what that character means to be the hope for humanity,
- 1:59:43Speaker 3: to be their best selves, to be the future one
- 1:59:46Speaker 3: of things... Why not give it to an African-American character?
- 1:59:50Speaker 3: Because granted, there's a whole lot of people in this
- 1:59:53Speaker 3: world that could probably use some hope, could use a
- 1:59:56Speaker 3: positive hero. And why not be a person of color?
- 2:00:01Speaker 1: Well, again, as we've started to see now that they're, again,
- 2:00:05Speaker 1: releasing the grip of like... Because in comics, we've seen
- 2:00:08Speaker 1: it change many a time. But now that we're seeing...
- 2:00:12Speaker 1: different people come along and become this thing, you know,
- 2:00:13Speaker 1: we're passing the mantle. So like you get to be
- 2:00:16Speaker 1: this title. Well then it's, you get to be this title,
- 2:00:18Speaker 1: even though you're a different race, you get to be
- 2:00:20Speaker 1: this title, even though you're a different gender. So it's like,
- 2:00:22Speaker 1: I think people are, well, hopefully people are letting go
- 2:00:25Speaker 1: of a little of their like geek fuel of like, no,
- 2:00:29Speaker 1: you can't change anything. Because again, if you're a comic fan,
- 2:00:32Speaker 1: you should be used to that anyway. It's been happening
- 2:00:34Speaker 1: for years.
- 2:00:35Speaker 3: But even still comic fans are extremely rigid when things
- 2:00:37Speaker 3: get changed. I mean, There was so much up in
- 2:00:40Speaker 3: arms when basically Jane Foster was Thor in the comics. Like,
- 2:00:44Speaker 3: you can't have a girl Thor. You still have Odinson.
- 2:00:48Speaker 3: He's right frickin' there. He just doesn't have the hammer.
- 2:00:51Speaker 3: He's doing something different.
- 2:00:52Speaker 1: Look how many decades of comics you have stacked up
- 2:00:54Speaker 1: over here with him.
- 2:00:55Speaker 3: You're fine.
- 2:00:56Speaker 1: Go read all you want.
- 2:00:57Speaker 3: Or when Sam Wilson became Captain America. We can't have
- 2:01:00Speaker 3: a black Captain America in comics. The hell we can't.
- 2:01:02Speaker 2: That's what I'm saying.
- 2:01:02Speaker 1: Just get over it. Who cares? I just want good
- 2:01:05Speaker 1: versions of it. I don't care specifics. Give it to
- 2:01:08Speaker 1: whoever as a performer. Just bring in somebody who knows
- 2:01:11Speaker 1: what they're doing and do a good representation of them, period.
- 2:01:16Speaker 1: As a movie, more than anything.
- 2:01:18Speaker 3: And this thing, for as many... Aspects of the character
- 2:01:21Speaker 3: of Superman, of his origin, of who he is, of
- 2:01:24Speaker 3: what he does. The one thing that's 100% non-important, non-consequential
- 2:01:29Speaker 3: is the color of his skin. He could be black, white, Asian,
- 2:01:35Speaker 3: Native American, doesn't matter. Does not matter because he could
- 2:01:39Speaker 3: still come from Krypton and be a good guy, be hope,
- 2:01:42Speaker 3: and nice people find him and whatever else.
- 2:01:44Speaker 1: Technically, he's an alien, so what difference does it make?
- 2:01:47Speaker 3: He could be green. He's an alien. He shouldn't have
- 2:01:50Speaker 3: been pink-skinned. Yeah, he shouldn't have looked like us. He's
- 2:01:53Speaker 3: a freaking alien. He should have been blue or something. Yeah,
- 2:01:56Speaker 3: I don't know. But, yeah, if DC wants to kind
- 2:01:59Speaker 3: of get anywhere near what Marvel is, they've got to
- 2:02:02Speaker 3: get a plan together in place. And they just got
- 2:02:06Speaker 3: to just care about their characters. Yeah. That's the biggest difference,
- 2:02:09Speaker 3: that Marvel obviously cares about their characters. They care about
- 2:02:13Speaker 3: what they represent to their fans and what they will
- 2:02:16Speaker 3: represent to new fans. Yeah.
- 2:02:17Speaker 1: And they just long-term planned it.
- 2:02:20Speaker 3: Oh, yeah. Which DC, from the beginning, didn't know what
- 2:02:23Speaker 3: to do with that.
- 2:02:24Speaker 4: So.
- 2:02:25Speaker 3: It is amazing if you go back and watch a
- 2:02:27Speaker 3: lot of the behind-the-scenes stuff from the Marvel movies and
- 2:02:29Speaker 3: kind of the whole journey that the MCU took to
- 2:02:33Speaker 3: get to Infinity War Endgame. You see the Bible that
- 2:02:36Speaker 3: Kevin Feige was running around with. Basically, it's the cover
- 2:02:38Speaker 3: to Infinity War, but it's this big hardbound book that
- 2:02:42Speaker 3: is literally this Gutenberg Bible thick book. I want to
- 2:02:49Speaker 3: read this book because that is literally the plan for
- 2:02:53Speaker 3: the MCU. We don't know how far that goes. How
- 2:02:56Speaker 3: far did they map it out? Does that volume only contain...
- 2:03:01Speaker 3: The Infinity War? The Infinity Saga? Or does that go further?
- 2:03:05Speaker 3: Is there more to that book? It's like I was
- 2:03:08Speaker 3: almost getting a whole Guillermo del Toro's journals for his
- 2:03:10Speaker 3: film journals that he's since released now. I've been planning
- 2:03:13Speaker 3: this since childhood. Here's what I want to do. But
- 2:03:16Speaker 3: I want to read Feige's book, man. It's like, oh
- 2:03:18Speaker 3: my God, what is in that thing? Or the ideas
- 2:03:21Speaker 3: that didn't come to fruition. You're telling with that. Yeah,
- 2:03:25Speaker 3: because we know originally for the Guardians of the Galaxy,
- 2:03:29Speaker 3: the first one they wanted to introduce the Nova character
- 2:03:32Speaker 3: and not the Nova Corps. Because granted, there is a Corps,
- 2:03:35Speaker 3: but the Richard Rider character is a Nova from Earth,
- 2:03:38Speaker 3: and he was the first. So that's kind of what
- 2:03:40Speaker 3: makes him special, what we cared about in the comics.
- 2:03:43Speaker 3: But they didn't introduce Richard Rider, but they did introduce
- 2:03:46Speaker 3: the Corps. So we know there is a police force
- 2:03:49Speaker 3: out in the galaxy. They all wear helmets. In the movie,
- 2:03:54Speaker 3: they flew ships. But in the comics, they'll basically have, like,
- 2:03:58Speaker 3: These helmets that have all their abilities come from it,
- 2:04:01Speaker 3: and it has a supercomputer in there. So, you know,
- 2:04:04Speaker 3: a lot of space and technology stuff. But yeah, so
- 2:04:08Speaker 3: there's all kinds of things they didn't quite get to
- 2:04:10Speaker 3: go through that maybe we'll see down the line. There's
- 2:04:13Speaker 3: talk that we're going to eventually still see Nova down
- 2:04:15Speaker 3: the road somewhere.
- 2:04:16Speaker 1: I mean, there's so much at this point, because they
- 2:04:21Speaker 1: obviously aren't done.
- 2:04:22Speaker 3: And even.
- 2:04:24Speaker 1: With the trajectory we've got, we've got so many projects
- 2:04:27Speaker 1: in the works and what they're mapping out that, yeah,
- 2:04:30Speaker 1: we can kind of get to anywhere at this point.
- 2:04:32Speaker 3: Yeah. The fun thing is that, you know, these teams
- 2:04:34Speaker 3: are kind of interchangeable. We've already started seeing this with
- 2:04:36Speaker 3: the Avengers. Like our first... Generation, you know, like Tony's dead,
- 2:04:40Speaker 3: Cap's retired, you know, Thor's kind of like, maybe I'm
- 2:04:45Speaker 3: going to be superhero. You know, Hulk kind of maybe
- 2:04:47Speaker 3: semi-retired as well. Yeah. So you've got like, you know,
- 2:04:50Speaker 3: Sam's now coming in. Bucky's getting a little more involved.
- 2:04:53Speaker 3: You know, you've got these newer members coming in. Well,
- 2:04:56Speaker 3: the Guardians are going to kind of start like be
- 2:04:57Speaker 3: that way very soon. Like their swan song is coming.
- 2:05:02Speaker 3: You know, like it starts in Love and Thunder. Then
- 2:05:04Speaker 3: we go to the holiday special. And then when we
- 2:05:06Speaker 3: get to Guardians 3, that's it. So that crew of
- 2:05:11Speaker 3: the Guardians, that's their last flight, basically. Now, whether or
- 2:05:15Speaker 3: not we see dead people, I don't know. But we
- 2:05:18Speaker 3: will eventually, if we get to a Guardians 4 or
- 2:05:20Speaker 3: we see... another spacefaring team, it's going to be different members.
- 2:05:24Speaker 3: We may still see a couple of guys. But it's
- 2:05:27Speaker 3: getting handed off. Yeah, so we're going to see some
- 2:05:31Speaker 3: new people come in eventually. So that could be a
- 2:05:33Speaker 3: way to bring in the Richard Rider Nova character. That
- 2:05:35Speaker 3: could be a way to make Adam Warlock more important
- 2:05:38Speaker 3: down the road. So there's all kinds of possibilities there.
- 2:05:41Speaker 1: There's a lot of possibilities.
- 2:05:43Speaker 3: That's what's a great thing about this. For every project
- 2:05:46Speaker 3: that is finished, I see on the screen, I'm like,
- 2:05:48Speaker 3: that's wonderful. What's next? I was just so happy with
- 2:05:52Speaker 3: this one.
- 2:05:52Speaker 1: Like I just, yeah, I just sat there loving how
- 2:05:56Speaker 1: dark it was and how dark they allowed it to
- 2:05:59Speaker 1: be that I'm like, again, I wouldn't have seen it
- 2:06:01Speaker 1: going this dark five years ago. Definitely not 10 years ago.
- 2:06:06Speaker 3: Like it did.
- 2:06:08Speaker 1: If you would have told me this much stuff would
- 2:06:10Speaker 1: have happened and how creepy and dark they would allow
- 2:06:13Speaker 1: it to be in this movie that yeah. I would
- 2:06:15Speaker 1: not have believed it probably.
- 2:06:17Speaker 3: But still being a fun movie.
- 2:06:18Speaker 1: But still fitting in. Totally continuing the story. That's why
- 2:06:22Speaker 1: I don't think like it's, again, they get into the
- 2:06:24Speaker 1: whole auteur thing and like they don't want to hand
- 2:06:26Speaker 1: it off. They want it to all have that same
- 2:06:28Speaker 1: homogenized feel. And I'm like, as long as you, again,
- 2:06:30Speaker 1: it's in the writing and in the overall production. Like
- 2:06:34Speaker 1: if you know how to make it just fit in
- 2:06:36Speaker 1: like puzzle pieces, as long as it still fits in there,
- 2:06:39Speaker 1: once you're in that puzzle piece, you should be able
- 2:06:41Speaker 1: to have free reign to do what you want to
- 2:06:43Speaker 1: do as a director, as a writer. But, yeah, just
- 2:06:46Speaker 1: make sure it doesn't screw up what came before, what
- 2:06:48Speaker 1: comes after. It's like, just let them do their thing
- 2:06:51Speaker 1: within the context of their movie.
- 2:06:53Speaker 3: Yeah, you're 100% right. I mean, this movie should be
- 2:06:56Speaker 3: an example for what comes later. Yeah. I hope it is.
- 2:06:59Speaker 3: For future films. Like, we can get filmmakers who have
- 2:07:02Speaker 3: a distinctive style, you know, that fans will know them.
- 2:07:05Speaker 3: If you say this name is directing the film, it
- 2:07:07Speaker 3: will put butts in seats whether they even care about
- 2:07:10Speaker 3: Marvel stuff. But they get to retain their artistry.
- 2:07:14Speaker 1: Mm-hmm.
- 2:07:14Speaker 3: And still propel our universe. That's what you want. That
- 2:07:19Speaker 3: is a win-win-win for everybody. It works for Marvel. It
- 2:07:23Speaker 3: works for the audience. It works for the fans. Everything.
- 2:07:26Speaker 3: Everybody's happy. How it should be. Yeah. I'm with you.
- 2:07:31Speaker 3: I thoroughly enjoyed this film. But every Marvel movie does
- 2:07:36Speaker 3: this to me. Every Marvel show does this to me.
- 2:07:39Speaker 3: I wrap it up like, that was awesome. What's next?
- 2:07:42Speaker 3: But that's me being a comic book fan of 43 years.
- 2:07:45Speaker 3: They chill us out every damn month, whether we're paying
- 2:07:50Speaker 3: 35 cents or now $ 3. 99 for a book. It's like
- 2:07:55Speaker 3: you're waiting for that next issue. Well, we don't get
- 2:07:58Speaker 3: them every month this time. We've got to wait a
- 2:07:59Speaker 3: couple of years. or whatever else for things. But yeah,
- 2:08:04Speaker 3: anticipation does not go away.
- 2:08:06Speaker 1: All I really want now, product tie-in. Wrap all this up.
- 2:08:10Speaker 1: I'm hoping we get pizza balls.
- 2:08:12Speaker 3: Out of this. So if somebody can put that together,
- 2:08:15Speaker 3: because they look pretty good. They did look pretty good.
- 2:08:17Speaker 1: I would eat some pizza balls. So let's see if
- 2:08:19Speaker 1: we can get this together. Obviously, I want pizza tie-ins
- 2:08:22Speaker 1: with every superhero movie now, because this is like two
- 2:08:24Speaker 1: in a row. So pizza tie, I just want pizza.
- 2:08:26Speaker 3: Is what I'm saying. It really is. You're getting hungry, yeah. Well,
- 2:08:30Speaker 3: and it's kind of funny, because the DC universe always
- 2:08:32Speaker 3: kind of played around with it. Basically, the one constant
- 2:08:34Speaker 3: in the entire multiverse is Big Belly Burger. There is
- 2:08:38Speaker 3: at least one Big Belly Burger in your universe, no
- 2:08:41Speaker 3: matter where you are in the DC universe. Whether they
- 2:08:43Speaker 3: serve hamburgers or not, but you can more than likely
- 2:08:47Speaker 3: get yourself a burger from Big Belly.
- 2:08:49Speaker 1: I did like that as the tie-in for America.
- 2:08:51Speaker 3: Like, that's her.
- 2:08:52Speaker 1: Like, as soon as she gets anywhere, she's like, what
- 2:08:54Speaker 1: are we eating? Alright, what do we got?
- 2:08:55Speaker 3: So, like, her.
- 2:08:57Speaker 1: rules are wherever I go, I just gotta figure out
- 2:08:59Speaker 1: what I'm gonna eat next.
- 2:09:00Speaker 3: Yeah, like, in some universes, food's free. And most of
- 2:09:02Speaker 3: the time it's free.
- 2:09:03Speaker 1: So you guys are weird because you keep making people
- 2:09:05Speaker 1: pay for food.
- 2:09:06Speaker 3: I know, yeah. That is really weird, kind of, like,
- 2:09:10Speaker 3: playing into, like, the ways our society works. Like, we
- 2:09:13Speaker 3: have a complete pay-for-play society for every aspect. Yeah, for everything.
- 2:09:17Speaker 1: Which, again, in a utopia type of thing, that shouldn't exist. Right.
- 2:09:21Speaker 3: We are far from utopia, so.
- 2:09:24Speaker 1: Yeah, you got to pay for your pizza balls.
- 2:09:25Speaker 3: You got to pay for those pizza balls. But man,
- 2:09:27Speaker 3: I mean, I got to wonder what the construction is.
- 2:09:31Speaker 3: That was a perfect ball that was nothing but pizza.
- 2:09:34Speaker 3: It was toppings and cheese. We didn't see sauce. We
- 2:09:38Speaker 3: didn't see crust. So it's like, so is there like
- 2:09:40Speaker 3: the crust in the center or is the... Pizza sauce inside?
- 2:09:43Speaker 1: I want to find out when I get my order
- 2:09:45Speaker 1: of pizza balls.
- 2:09:46Speaker 3: Yeah. So, yeah. Some master chef, let's get on that.
- 2:09:49Speaker 2: Yep.
- 2:09:49Speaker 4: We need pizza balls.
- 2:09:50Speaker 3: Start packaging them up. Let's do this. The Avengers movie
- 2:09:52Speaker 3: did great things for shawarma. Yeah. Let's get some pizza
- 2:09:55Speaker 3: balls going here.
- 2:09:56Speaker 1: I think there's tie-ins that they're just not tapping. Of
- 2:09:59Speaker 1: all the merchandise we have, you're just missing a few
- 2:10:02Speaker 1: key ones there.
- 2:10:03Speaker 3: Pizza papa. Let's go. It's so good, you'll punch yourself
- 2:10:08Speaker 3: in the face.
- 2:10:09Speaker 1: There's your tagline.
- 2:10:11Speaker 3: All right.
- 2:10:12Speaker 1: I'd say we've hit it once again.
- 2:10:14Speaker 3: I think we have.
- 2:10:15Speaker 1: Grounded it out, so like a pizza ball. Let's roll
- 2:10:19Speaker 1: on out of here.
- 2:10:21Speaker 3: Oh, man. Otherwise, that about does it. We will return
- 2:10:23Speaker 3: next time. Same geek feed. Thanks for listening. Take care, folks.
- 2:10:29Speaker 6: I don't know how to say it no better I
- 2:10:34Speaker 6: love you in the bed ¶.
- 2:10:49Speaker 3: Never had a rocket like you.
- 2:10:51Speaker 1: Could ¶ ¶ Howling like you can ¶ ¶ Well,
- 2:10:54Speaker 1: it gets me thinking of Johnny B.
- 2:10:57Speaker 3: Gooden ¶ ¶ You know you ain't no man ¶
- 2:11:03Speaker 3: When I heard you play, I knew your name should
- 2:11:07Speaker 3: be changed.
- 2:11:08Speaker 6: We're all down, panicked, and you are to blame.
- 2:11:13Speaker 3: Everybody ought to call.
- 2:11:16Speaker 6: You Baby Lestrange. You look so insane.
- 2:11:20Speaker 3: We gave you a.
- 2:11:22Speaker 1: Name, Baby Lestrange. Baby Lestrange.
- 2:11:35Speaker 4: We'll be right back.
- 2:11:54Speaker 3: I wish I knew what you're really like.
- 2:11:57Speaker 6: A touch so shy and fine.
- 2:12:00Speaker 1: But the way you move with that guitar just gives
- 2:12:03Speaker 1: me other signs.
- 2:12:06Speaker 6: Here's my number. Give me a sign.
- 2:12:08Speaker 1: Call me back if this gets through.
- 2:12:10Speaker 6: Babe, oh, baby, baby, I'd have.
- 2:12:13Speaker 3: Never said no to you.
- 2:12:20Speaker 1: When I heard your song, I knew your name should
- 2:12:23Speaker 1: be changed. Everybody ought to call you baby, less strange.
- 2:12:29Speaker 1: Under my skin, you've got my mind rearranged.
- 2:12:37Speaker 7: You're so insane.
- 2:12:39Speaker 3: Baby, so strange.
- 2:12:42Speaker 6: Baby, less strange.
- 2:14:00Speaker 3: It's over! Finally, we finished! It's over! Stop punching yourself
- 2:14:06Speaker 3: in the face, we're done!
