Transcript
- 0:00[SPEAKER_00]: Jacksonville, Jaguar's fans, welcome in to Duval.
- 0:02[SPEAKER_00]: Daily, presented by jingyag.com.
- 0:03[SPEAKER_00]: I'm Jordan Luger.
- 0:04[SPEAKER_00]: Thanks so much for tuning in.
- 0:05[SPEAKER_00]: Wednesday, May 20th right now.
- 0:07[SPEAKER_00]: We are talking AJ Brown.
- 0:09[SPEAKER_00]: So, should the Jaguar straight for AJ Brown?
- 0:12[SPEAKER_00]: We'll talk about that.
- 0:13[SPEAKER_00]: We'll also just talk about the validity of the reporting, regarding the Jaguar's connection with AJ Brown.
- 0:21[SPEAKER_00]: Basically, Jason Locke and Forer said he wouldn't rule out the Jaguars as being interested and potentially swooping in at the last minute and getting AJ Brown, as everyone kind of talks about AJ Brown from the Eagles to the Patriots as being like a done deal, I would be shocked if the Jaguars make that move.
- 0:39[SPEAKER_00]: I really would.
- 0:43[SPEAKER_00]: We'll get into that.
- 0:45[SPEAKER_00]: Should they do it?
- 0:46[SPEAKER_00]: Will
- 0:52[SPEAKER_00]: When speaking on the jacks, is about as inaccurate, I'm not gonna say what I was gonna say.
- 1:03[SPEAKER_00]: About as inaccurate as you can get, we'll just say that.
- 1:08[SPEAKER_00]: Not throwing the boat under the bus right now, not comparing him to JLC.
- 1:11[SPEAKER_00]: But about as inaccurate as you can get when it comes to speaking on the jacks and bill jack or as Jason Lawcomphora has been, you can,
- 1:20[SPEAKER_00]: You can look all that stuff up for yourself, but he just has not been on the money in any way, shape, or form.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_00]: When he reports, speaks on, speculates on, the Jacksonville Jaguars, throughout the past, like decade and a half plus.
- 1:34[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he has an insanely poor track record in that regard.
- 1:38[SPEAKER_00]: So honestly, when he says something about the Jaguars, I would automatically think the opposite will probably happen.
- 1:47[SPEAKER_00]: Straight up.
- 1:49[SPEAKER_00]: Then you had James Palmer was on up in Adams, Cat, I'm showing, in K, just asked him about it, like, and he didn't really add anything to it other than like, yeah, how he rosemen is probably going to be looking for the best deal possible.
- 2:04[SPEAKER_00]: And yeah, James Gladstone is always sniffing around trying to make a move.
- 2:08[SPEAKER_00]: Both of those things are true, but neither of those things are actually reporting that the Jaguar has interest in trading for AJ Brown.
- 2:18[SPEAKER_00]: As far as the reporting on it goes, I think it's pretty much a nothing burger, but thinking about the trade, I think that that's somewhat interesting, right?
- 2:30[SPEAKER_00]: The Jaguars, in my opinion, at the end of last season, and heading into this season, I think you look at their passing attack, and you say, it's at worst like a B plus, probably like an A minus type of passing attack, like in the low 90s, if you were gonna rate it on a 100 point scale,
- 2:48[SPEAKER_00]: Pretty damn good.
- 2:50[SPEAKER_00]: Like, you got receivers all over the damn place.
- 2:53[SPEAKER_00]: They compliment each other.
- 2:55[SPEAKER_00]: Jacobi Myers is a great possession receiver.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_00]: Brian Thomas Jr. stretches the field very, very well.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_00]: Parker Washington kind of does it all.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_00]: You've got two running backs out of the backfield that are good receivers and basal toon and Lee Quint Allen.
- 3:09[SPEAKER_00]: You've got Britain strange who is an elite tight end.
- 3:12[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think so.
- 3:15[SPEAKER_00]: You went and got two guys in the draft.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_00]: You have Travis Hunter, you went and got named Borkercher, who I think can be an effective guy.
- 3:25[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, Tanner, cozy, those are good receiving tight end.
- 3:29[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think that the Jaguars have probably an A minus passing attack right now.
- 3:39[SPEAKER_00]: And that's not relative through the rest of the league.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I think if you're comparing it to the rest of the league, they probably have an A, but just like over the course of history, I think they probably have like A minus passing a day.
- 3:50[SPEAKER_00]: A really, really good passing attack.
- 3:54[SPEAKER_00]: Liam Cohen's great at dialing it up.
- 3:56[SPEAKER_00]: Trevor Lawrence, very comfortable in this offense at this point.
- 3:59[SPEAKER_00]: Again, receivers all over the damn place.
- 4:03[SPEAKER_00]: So how much does AJ Brown really move the needle for you?
- 4:07[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 4:08[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, there's speculation that if they were going to trade for AJ Brown, that it would be Brian Thomas Jr. involved, and it's like, dude, for real, are we really still doing this?
- 4:20[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I guess we're still doing this.
- 4:24[SPEAKER_00]: And you know, you never know, maybe the Jaguar's could move on from Brian Thomas Jr.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_00]: It just feels like at every opportunity there has been people clamoring for it, teams interested in it, and the Jaguar just haven't done it.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe they just like the fact that BTJ is six foot three runs of four, three, four to your dash and stretches the field for their offense, opens up their offense.
- 4:49[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe they like that, right?
- 4:52[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe they like the fact that they have two more years on the rookie deal plus a fifth year where they control that year as well.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_00]: And it's not going to be like
- 5:04[SPEAKER_00]: a super high-priced, wide receiver contract for a 50-or-option.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_00]: It's not going to be cheap, but it's not going to be like, you know, paying, well, AJ Brown, $32 million, right?
- 5:19[SPEAKER_00]: And speaking of AJ Brown, making $32 million, my best guess is he probably wants a race.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_00]: See, Jackson Smith and Jake, but making 42 million, Jamar Chase, making 40, Justin Jefferson, making 35, CD, making 34, DK, making 33, Garrett Wilson's making more than AJ Brown right now.
- 5:39[SPEAKER_00]: He probably wants a race, right?
- 5:43[SPEAKER_00]: I would have to think so.
- 5:47[SPEAKER_00]: OK, and then we haven't even talked about AJ around the player yet, but we will.
- 5:53[SPEAKER_00]: But you also have to think.
- 5:55[SPEAKER_00]: is the juice worth the squeeze.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_00]: Again, when you already have a really, really damn good passing offense and a player in Brian Thomas Jr., who opens up things for the rest of the receivers, do you really want to bring in AJ Brown and have him being a situation where he is not getting
- 6:22[SPEAKER_00]: in a lead volume of targets every single week, because I don't think there's an elite volume of targets to go around.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_00]: Like, BTJ, when this Jaguar's passing attack was humming down the stretch, he wasn't getting targeted at a ton.
- 6:36[SPEAKER_00]: And obviously, if you trade for AJ Brown, you're gonna target him more than you were targeting BTJ at the end of the season, but do the Jaguar's need to go get someone who needs to be a target hog?
- 6:46[SPEAKER_00]: Is that the best thing for their offense?
- 6:48[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, and have to have at moments, would you like to have AJ Brown?
- 6:55[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 6:56[SPEAKER_00]: He would easily be the Jaguar's best receiver.
- 6:59[SPEAKER_00]: There's no question about that.
- 7:00[SPEAKER_00]: But his AJ Brown going to be good when, and when I say good, I mean, is he going to be okay with a game where he gets three targets?
- 7:11[SPEAKER_00]: Is he going to be somebody who puts the team first?
- 7:17[SPEAKER_00]: That's another question more.
- 7:18[SPEAKER_00]: Now, when it comes to AJ around the player, what can he do?
- 7:23[SPEAKER_00]: Think the better question is what can't he do?
- 7:26[SPEAKER_00]: He is, you know, excellent and contested catch situations about 50% for his career.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_00]: His drop rate is extremely low.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_00]: He's extremely physical as a route runner.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_00]: He's explosive, he's got good size.
- 7:44[SPEAKER_00]: And he's a monster at every level of the field.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_00]: He's 28 years old, he'll be 29, end of June, June 30th.
- 7:54[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think you see a receiver who isn't gonna continue to produce.
- 8:04[SPEAKER_00]: So, I guess if the Jaguar is wanted to say, let's take our receiving aim from an A minus to an A plus.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe.
- 8:14[SPEAKER_00]: But is that the biggest move the Jaguars could make to improve their football team?
- 8:21[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think so.
- 8:24[SPEAKER_00]: I really don't.
- 8:26[SPEAKER_00]: Now maybe AJ Brown is the only big time player that's really available for trade.
- 8:31[SPEAKER_00]: That could be the case.
- 8:34[SPEAKER_00]: At this point, it just doesn't seem like something the Jaguars need to do.
- 8:40[SPEAKER_00]: And hey, I mean, let's not forget,
- 8:43[SPEAKER_00]: It's very possible that BTJ still becomes a wide receiver one in this league, like that is far from outside of the realm of possibilities in my opinion.
- 8:56[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, AJ Brown is a wide receiver one.
- 8:59[SPEAKER_00]: He's one of the wide receiver one.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, when he has been healthy and motivated, he's been one of the best receivers in football, like top five easily.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_00]: But I do think you have to question, like, is he the right fit?
- 9:20[SPEAKER_00]: Do we want to pay him at least 32 million per year?
- 9:25[SPEAKER_00]: Versus having BTJ on this cost-controlled contract through 26, 27, 28.
- 9:29[SPEAKER_00]: These are questions you have to ask yourself.
- 9:35[SPEAKER_00]: And if you go trade for AJ Brown, probably given up BTJ, like I said,
- 9:43[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe Parker Washington.
- 9:44[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 9:45[SPEAKER_00]: That would be interesting to think about.
- 9:51[SPEAKER_00]: Very interesting to think about.
- 9:52[SPEAKER_00]: You're probably going to give Parker Washington a new deal, but it ain't going to be A.J.
- 9:58[SPEAKER_00]: Brown time money and anything going to be close to that.
- 10:03[SPEAKER_00]: It's a lot to consider.
- 10:05[SPEAKER_00]: My best guess is that it's a no.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_00]: But again, what James Palmer said, James Gladstone is always going to be
- 10:14[SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely.
- 10:15[SPEAKER_00]: He is.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_00]: I wouldn't completely rule anything out.
- 10:22[SPEAKER_00]: But then again, going back to the fact that Jason lock him for is the first person that said it makes me feel pretty confident it's probably not going to happen.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_00]: But hey, maybe Jason lock him for is turning over a new leaf with the new Jaguars regime, you know, maybe they'll actually do some things that he predicts who knows.
- 10:38[SPEAKER_00]: They're not moving to London like he predicted though.
- 10:39[SPEAKER_00]: That's where damn sure.
- 10:41[SPEAKER_00]: Really appreciate y'all tuning in.
