- 0:00Up next for the Football Husky is the eighteenth ranked Duke Blue Devils Pratton Wood.
- 0:04He stayed him Saturday afternoon network coverage at two with Bob Joyce and the
- 0:07Hard Auto Group countdown a kickoff game time three thirty here along the Yukon Sports
- 0:12Network, gonna online be the Varsity Network app and the Varsity Network dot Com
- 0:17Mike Chrispino with Jim Moore uh coach. Some other positives from that game.
- 0:21DeVante Houston had a nice game one hundred twenty six yards running and thirty seven
- 0:25yards and receptions, scored a touchdown. It was good to see him back
- 0:30being DeVante Houston. Give him a little room, and that guy is dangerous.
- 0:34Yeah, you know he can. He's he has a really great understanding
- 0:39of our run scheme and he understands where the hole is going to be and
- 0:42when it's going to open up, and then he understands how to get out
- 0:45and back up the field. And he's really hard to catch when he's open
- 0:49in the open field. And you know, they made a couple of shustring
- 0:53tackles there that if he breaks, make a big difference in this game.
- 0:56But you know, that kid is so he's so aren't tough, you know,
- 1:00I mean, he's just he's a great kid. He works his tail
- 1:04off, and he's one hundred and sixty five pounds. He takes vicious hits
- 1:07and he just keeps getting up and going again and again and again. I
- 1:11have so much respect for him. Yeah, he's one of our favorite sets
- 1:15for sure. Victor Rosa a little banged up, I understand from the game
- 1:19on the weekend and maybe the prior week as well. What's his status right
- 1:23now? What do you expect he can do this weekend? And if he's
- 1:26unable to go one hundred percent, what do you do in terms of backing
- 1:29him up. Victor's beat up, but every running back in the country's beat
- 1:34up a little bit. You know. It's just that he's got, you
- 1:36know, his back, little backspas him and then you know, his shoulder
- 1:40was bothering a little bit on Saturday, but he practiced today. He was
- 1:42fine, He'll he'll be good to go Saturday. That being said, though,
- 1:46I think it's important, you know that we can continue to work Jalen
- 1:51Mitchell in there a little bit and probably give Cam Edwards some tries. You
- 1:53know, I was really impressed with him after spring ball and especially after our
- 1:59summer camps. You know, I think just you know, given DeVante a
- 2:04break once in a while, given Victor a break once in a while,
- 2:07especially when he's beat up a little bit, because we need him at full
- 2:10speed. Because when he's at full speed, you know, we all have
- 2:13seen what he can do. Yeah, you went without freshman kick returning this
- 2:16past week. Brian Domino four times. He took it back for eighty four
- 2:21yards. Twenty seven was his longest. Uh, that's not something you expected
- 2:24to do, but you you were kind of forced into that one because Brian
- 2:29Bruton decided he wasn't going to be part of the Yukon's football program anymore.
- 2:32That's correct. Brian decided that he wants to preserve his red shirt and enter
- 2:38the portal. And we wish him the best. You know, we'll miss
- 2:40him, you know, I know, we really valued Brian. He's fought
- 2:46through a lot. You know, he's an undersized guy that's been injured and
- 2:51uh, you know, but he had a great attitude, a great work
- 2:53ethic, brought a lot of juice to the team. But you know,
- 2:57he made the decision. They did probably I'm sure I'll probably go down to
- 2:59an FCS school or something and you know, or they'll take a guy his
- 3:02size and play a little bit more. So that being said, it's you
- 3:07know, that next man up mentality, and Brian Domino has been doing a
- 3:10lot of really good things for us on the practice field. He shows a
- 3:14burst, he shows some speed, he's got a great work ethic. The
- 3:17players have a lot of respect for him, and it was time for him
- 3:20to step up. And I think he's going to do a really good job
- 3:23for us in that role. You know, this team last year and what
- 3:27I want to look back too much, but you know, it was a
- 3:29great turnaround year for the Huskies, the UKON program. You came aboard and
- 3:32got things roll in the right direction a lot. You know, a lot
- 3:36of people came back. You've got some experience on this squad. But there
- 3:39are others who are not back. They used up their eligibility. I don't
- 3:43think an Ian Swanson, you know, the linebacking crew, Brandon Boyder,
- 3:46Randall, the corner, Trey Wortham. Replacing guys like that, it's not
- 3:51as easy. Sometimes it's just plugging a hole with another guy, is it?
- 3:54No? And it takes some time for people who adjusted their role and
- 4:00for us to adjust to their skill set. It's not easy at all.
- 4:04But but everybody really kind of now in college football faces those same problems.
- 4:10So you have to make it happen a little bit faster, you know,
- 4:13because there's just attrition and there's you know, guys graduate and move on.
- 4:16So you know, that's one of the challenges. And uh, that's something
- 4:21that we're working through right now. And you know, I think you're going
- 4:25to see the guys that replace those guys step up and start to really make
- 4:29some plays. I see Noah plaque coming on, and you know, it's
- 4:31good to see two he getting chances to play at the nice sack the other
- 4:34day. He's doing a good job. And you know, the more of
- 4:36those guys play together and the more reps guys that haven't played much get the
- 4:41better and better they'll start to play. So you know, there are some
- 4:46hidden positives in in the oh and three start. It's just you know,
- 4:49it's hard to find him. It's hard to talk about him, but you
- 4:53know, I part of my job is to see him and realize that you
- 4:57know, we knew, we knew this was not going to be an easy
- 5:01and easy task, you know, getting this thing, you know, on
- 5:06track, heading in the right direction. And you know, I've said this
- 5:09a lot. You know, if the easy path leads nowhere, it's gonna
- 5:12be hard, and there's gonna be some bumps in the road. And if
- 5:14there's no bumps in the road, you're proy on the wrong road. So,
- 5:16especially when you're trying to build something, and I feel very fortunate to
- 5:20be here and I feel very confident that that we're headed in the right direction
- 5:26as a program. I think that it's masked by the own three start and
- 5:30we're results oriented business. But and that's ultimately how we're evaluated is wins and
- 5:36losses. But you know, when you're trying to build something that was,
- 5:41you know, struggling, you gotta you gotta find bits and pieces that indicate
- 5:47to you that you're doing the right things and you have the right people.
- 5:51And I'm able to find those still, So that that's what gives me a
- 5:55lot of hope. Yeah, that's that's definitely important, no question about it.
- 5:59Time for a break. We'll be back in just a moment with Jim
- 6:01Moore. This Ukon Football Coaches Show on liffield
