[upbeat rock music] Welcome, radio listener.

Full Spectrum Cycling number 86, I believe it is. 86, yeah. 86-D. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So we have to cut it off here. We're done. No, yeah. No more. 86 it. 86, man. Yep.
• 0:34
And we were talking about taking a break- 86 the carrots. 86 carrots... gotta come up with a new name for a new show now. [laughs] 86 is, it's a lot of shows. It's a few shows. Few shows now. Week before Thanksgiving.
• 0:50
Thanksgiving. Wowzy. Or is it two weeks? No, two weeks. Two weeks, two weeks before Thanksgiving. Less than a, less than two weeks before Thanksgiving today though. Yeah.
• 0:58
Today is my, uh, beginning of my burning of vacation days I f- forgot until this week. Oh, that's a beautiful time of year. I love that time working for the state. Oh, yeah. [laughs] Yeah, use it or lose it. Right.
• 1:10
That's why you don't touch it until- Save it... October- Yep... November zone. So now you have four, four day weeks all the way through? Uh, oh, three day weeks at least, and probably four day weeks.
• 1:23
I mean, four day weekends. Four day weekends. Yeah. Three day weekends. All weekends are good. At, at, at, at, at the suggestion of the boss, mind you.
• 1:31
Then, hey, I mean, I, g- gift horse mouth, not gonna, not gonna look, not gonna look a- Agreed. Agreed When you own a bike shop, every day is the weekend. [laughs] Wow. Speaking of shops- That was deep...
• 1:45
the build-out is coming along really nice at the new location. The, the new location build-out. Oh, it's gonna be so cool. Can't wait to get over there.
• 1:53
It's not gonna happen till after Christmas, but- We should still go check it out... so the bike park- Check it out. Oh, um, so we're gonna- So outside bike parking would not be- It- You wouldn't be in peril.
• 2:03
[laughs] No, no. Yeah, it's not like being run over by a car down the street. Yeah, I mean [laughs] I mean, you could technically, but it'd take quite a feat. Right. I don't know how big that parking lot is.
• 2:10
It's like two football fields or something. It's humongous. Oh, yeah, yeah. Yeah, it's, that's pretty gigantic. It's also fenced in. True. So we're gonna have a, a race course around there somehow.
• 2:21
[laughs] I think that's legit. So I'm assuming someone signs waivers. It even has a, it even has a dirt area we can make, uh, berms and whatnot in. Ooh. Right up the street, folks, just about a mile.
• 2:31
It's not gonna be a big deal. It's gonna be a surprise. Don't worry bout, don't worry about it. I couldn't tell you yet, but it's a surprise. At some point. Surprise. It's gonna be fantastic.
• 2:37
The goal here is to get warehouse and shop in same space. Yep. Plenty of parking. Well, it's gonna, it's gonna happen in phases.
• 2:46
The first thing I think I'm gonna do is build our, uh, our e-bike building area because- Mm-hmm... we've been going crazy with those things. Mm-hmm. It's 'cause they're cool. Fat bikes and e-bikes. Fatty bikes.
• 2:56
Fatty bikes. [laughs] In the, uh, in the notes of this week's, you're gonna see my e-bike, 'cause I just took pictures of it. Ah, yeah, Tony's e-bike is kind of finally done. It's freaking dialed. Dialed.
• 3:06
I'd, I'd the picture you sh- had on Facebook, but it was kind of, uh, late at night and- Yeah... potentially a little bit blurry. Yeah, last week was a lot of, uh, industry was, uh, industry was occurring- Yeah...
• 3:19
in front of my eyes, and I couldn't do anything except observe- Yeah... which was very fascinating. But- This is, uh, the... for, for, for you listeners out there, it's a three-speed belt drive
• 3:28
with a 250-watt ba-fanging- Ba-fanging... front hub, uh, modular grin batteries, front and rear racks, front rack by Jordan, and it is just the great- Oh, and, and
• 3:43
thick slicks 29ers, which I have to say, you guys- Thick, thick slicks, baby...
• 3:48
if, if you have more than three bikes, if you have three bikes or more and you don't have a set of thick slicks on one of them- You're a thick head...
• 3:54
you need to go get a set of thick slicks because they're just awesome. You're a, you're a dunderhead. Yeah, they're just... They, on the 29er, they're incredible. Um, they ride so well. So yeah, it is...
• 4:07
This is gonna be my, uh, my 2021 New Year's resolution, no backpack on whenever I'm on a bike. [laughs] What? JK's trying to do- I was trying to make noises. Hey, hey, hey, guess what? Hey, hey, hey.
• 4:21
Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey. Hey. Hey, wait a second. Hey, you guys. Hey, hey, hey, hey. Who's calling? Hey, guy. Hey, guy. Hi, guy. Hey. Who's calling on the phone, guy? Hey, hey. Hey? Hello? Straw? Hello? Straw? Grass?
• 4:34
Is this the e-bike hot- hotline? Uh. [laughs] That's a- How can we help you, sir? Yeah, it is. [laughs] Do you need any 18650 battery cells? [laughs] I got an e-bike for you and I know a pretty way to put it, too.
• 4:47
[laughs] How you doing? Hey, it's, uh, it's Chewy. It sounds like it's Chewy. Chewy, everybody. Chewy, is that you? Chewy, everybody. He's a, he's a radio personality now. He's on to himself. Yeah. Yeah.
• 4:56
He's a personality, just, you can just put it, start it, and end it there. Right? It's just radio. It's in life. It's probably TV if you gave him a shot. It, it's not doing you any good. I still fucking hate e-bikes.
• 5:08
You can butter me up all you want. [laughs] It's okay. It's not gonna work. It's okay, man. But we were on to thick slicks by the time your rant started, so. Yeah. Do you have any bikes with thick slicks? Yeah.
• 5:18
WTB, thick slick. Uh, no, I don't. Uh- Chewy? No, nope, none. Then the next time you call in, my challenge to you is to get a set of thick slicks on something and let me know what you think. Okay.
• 5:33
The thir- Like, which ones are you using? Uh, I have them on the 29er. I'm using the 29er... They're like 2.1. Um- Well, okay, I take that back. I, I did run them.
• 5:43
Uh, I did run a set of Big Apples on my, 29ers slicks on my, on our, on our tandem. Big Apples are not slicks. On our tandem. Big Apples are good tires. Well, they're still knobby.
• 5:54
I love Big Apples, too, by the way, but I gave them to my buddy Joshua for the thick slicks. But okay, I'll g- I'll get a pair and I'll put them on. Yeah. 'Cause I've never run those. I think he'll be pleased.
• 6:05
[laughs] That's right. So I'm in. [laughs] I've got them on a- Oh, yeah...
• 6:07
I've got them on a 26-inch bike, and now my new one sitting on the stand, which I can't get a chain on tonight because I don't have the right- Sitting on the stand... chainring size, has 27.5 by 195 thick slicks on it.
• 6:20
This is badass, Drew. You're gonna love this bike. Single speed coaster brake. Booyah. Oh, I'm all for that. Uh, so I was gonna- I'm all for that...
• 6:28
one of my questions that I came up with when I knew you were calling is what do you think about gearing on this thing for, you know, around Milwaukee, m- not off-roading as much as more just city bashing and 27.5?
• 6:41
'Cause, you know, uh, it's not a m- Well-... it's not a mountain bike, so I'm not going two to one. Maybe I want a little more speed here and there, blah, blah, blah. Well, no, I understand that. That was...
• 6:50
And I wasn't thinking that way. I was thinking actually mountain biking because... So my comparison to, uh, my only comparison to 29s versus 27.5s is I had a, I have a set of 27.5s on my one by one,
• 7:02
and they're, um, they're Racing Ralph's, uh, 2.25s and then I compare it to my Krampus, which has got a three on it. And I don't know, I'm kind of sold on the 27.5s- Mm... uh, over a 29.
• 7:18
Um, I did ride my, um, Karate Monkey down in Texas two weeks ago with the 29s on that, and I'm still kind of sold on the 27.5s. I mean, there, it was...
• 7:30
We did a couple rock gardens down there that, um, the bigger wheels are really nice to roll over, but at the same time the extra little pickup that you get with the 27.5 is totally worth it.
• 7:41
So if you're thinking tire size and you go 27.5, you definitely can gear it up. I mean, I'm, I go from a [laughs] I think I'm running a 30,
• 7:52
a 36/20 on the one by one and a 32/20 on the Krampus, and I still feel like I can get going faster on the 27.5s on the, on the one by one. Hmm.
• 8:06
So if you're looking at around Milwaukee, I don't know, 36- Yeah, with, with more slicks on it, you know. Uh, I've, I've got right now- Right... 'cause it's a Shimano coaster brake, I think I've got an 18 on the back.
• 8:16
So I'm gonna have to pair that up with something, you know, for just a little bit more rolling speed up front.
• 8:22
Well, but if, but if you're, but you've got enough climbs, though, that would you wanna go higher than the 36? Eh, they're short.
• 8:28
You know, you suffer a block or two and you're kinda done with them already, so I, I don't know. Mm-hmm. I, I'm not... A- and besides, i- that would just kinda be a wussy thing, wouldn't it? [laughs] Mm-hmm.
• 8:40
I, I don't know. It is a bit, but I don't know. Being a dick thing? Well, I can always just- I'm kinda spinning my old age... yeah, me too. I mean, I'm the laziest cyclist out there. I love spinning.
• 8:48
I'm not a big masher, so, um, that's why I normally- I, honestly, like spinning... that's why I normally ride with gears. [laughs] Yeah. So prob- that's why I barely talk to you anymore.
• 8:59
[laughs] I have three gears in that Shaman.
• 9:00
Well, this, this thing is set up with, um, the, the money, uh, modified Shimano coaster brake hub, so it fits in the 135 and it's got super-duper brake pads in there and- That's pretty sexy... yep, that's all set up.
• 9:14
And for some reason, I went with Stan's Arch rims, [laughs] and these, uh, these 27.5 thick slicks on a bike that... You know what? You rid- you've ridden this bike back in the olden times when I think you- No, it's...
• 9:26
The, the one you did the corner... you pop- you popped a belt off of it and, and you yelled at me about it 'cause the belt came off 'cause it was a- Yep... the very first- Right, and so-... belt drive.
• 9:34
[laughs] It was like... Right, it was... And, and you were limited at what you could do for gain because it only had so many belt.
• 9:39
Right, and it wasn't the center track, so you were cranking up a hill in a flexi steel frame and it kinda went kerbang- That's the truth... and I think you busted your shit up pretty good.
• 9:47
[laughs] It happened to me too, dude. Hate that belt. You're not still mad about that, are you? Did we lose him? Sounds like we lost him. Oh. It's growing very dark. Oh, Ron. Ron, oh, Ron. Scheuess calls backess.
• 10:04
That's my, um, that's my, uh, Harry Potter thing. Ron, oh, Ron, oh. Well, let's, uh, let's just wait for Ron to call back and we'll talk about something else. Could we be approaching a hill?
• 10:20
I don't know, but we got a Ron. What are you doing, hanging up on us? Oh, Ron. You getting sick of us or- No, y- either, either my fat cheek did it or you guys did it. [laughs] I'm not sure which.
• 10:27
Well, I was, I was touching absolutely- Fat cheek... nothing. Hey. Fat cheek. Hey, guess what?
• 10:31
Just because, uh, 'cause you're back on the line, we're gonna do a, we're gonna do a top of the- Ah, ah, ah, oh [bell rings]... a top of the hill thing here. Oh, yeah.
• 10:39
Oh, top- A top- You're gonna like this one, Scheuess... one would say a toppling of the hill. Oh. Oh. A toppling of the hill. [laughs] Mm. Yes, thanks to JK, we have Toppling Goliath's Pompeii IPA. Ooh.
• 10:54
Do, do you know where Toppling Goliath is? I don't think- It's not too far from my house. Yeah, I was gonna say- I, I, I don't think you've ever been- It's walking distance from your house, right?
• 11:04
Uh, no, I wouldn't walk at night. The new one is way at the top of the hill. It's actually, it's actually crappy to get to. It's a, it's a, an ex- it's an experience getting to the new one, but it's a beautiful place.
• 11:14
Oh, it's not across from the Wimpy Dip anymore? But it's not crappy. Where'd it move to? No, that's... No, so they moved it. They built a great big place up on top of the hill by the airport, and it's beautiful.
• 11:23
It's giant. Oh. It's got big meeting rooms, and they've got food. They've got fantastic pizza, giant patio. Um, it's a nice setup. And then the tap room, where the tap room used to be across from Wimpy Dip is now,
• 11:36
I believe it's his sister bought it, and it's called Dixie's, Dixie's Tap, and they have- Should be Dixie's Night Runners- I think it's more called Toppling Goliath... that'd be funny. That would even be better.
• 11:47
[laughs] But then they, but they also do, all they do is, uh, i- and they're like runs of Iowa craft beers. It's really kind of a cool place to go to. What a frigging genius idea. Yeah. Yeah, it is.
• 11:57
Make money off your brother. I like that idea. And then you just roll down the hill to Pulpit Rock, and you've kinda drank everything in Iowa. So the, so the new, uh, TG is right on, is on 52? It's on 9, so- Oh, 9.
• 12:11
Okay, right... if you go- Yeah, yeah... yep, so where 952 cross, it's about, I don't know, three miles to the Old Man of the Rock on, so it's east of there. Gotcha, and it's at the- And it's- It's at the top of the hill.
• 12:23
How c- how classic is that? It is. It is. They don't have directions on the- It's not a, it's not an easy bike to get up there... on the box. Right on. Um- Let's talk about it...
• 12:32
so be- so we talked about single speed gearing a little bit. You think I should go up a little bit over a 2:1 probably on that thing then, huh? Oh, yes, definitely. I mean, I, you could...
• 12:42
I would, if you, if, if you're not gonna be loaded down, go with a 44. Ooh. Well, I w- so on a- That could be-... so my old school single speed 700C by, you know, 25 bike was a, a 49 or 46/19.
• 12:58
I never really geared it up that high. It's not like these crazy people with their super big fixed gear bikes, so. I'll putz around with it. You know what?
• 13:06
  I would- I can always change it, 'cause I got that technology, I guess. I'm running a 54/1 out of 10. Well, I, I run, I run, on my, on my 700Cs I run a, I run a 50/18.
• 13:18
And that's my, that's my get to and from work bike every day. Gotcha. But not a Decora bike- So-... going up to toppling Goliath. No. No. No, I have done it up there. It sucked. [laughs] So it's not fun.
• 13:29
Of course you have. Right on. Um, so how about- Wait... how about tubed, tubed or tubeless? What, where do you stand on that plan? I, I always looked at it this way.
• 13:41
Everything I have is tubed, partially because, um, when I go to Arizona, um, I can throw a, a Slime tube inside there and I feel comfortable.
• 13:51
And, you know, especially off-road riding, when you burp it, you can't get it started, what do you do? You put a tube in it. So I don't care about weight. I just start with a tube. I put tubes in everything.
• 14:00
I love you, man. I just start with a tube. Um- I love you. [laughs] Actually, yeah, I went with, I went with Slime tubes on this current thing.
• 14:06
I've bec- first of all, they were the only 27.5 tubes of the proper size that were available. And I'm like, well, that's kinda fortuitous- Yeah... because I wanted to, you know.
• 14:15
Putting them on a set of thick slicks- And, and these-... that's gonna be for cur- I don't think-... urban riding- Yeah... that's gonna be great. I don't think any thick slick is actually a tubeless-ready tire anyway.
• 14:23
They're all wire bead. They're like cheap tires. I think they retail for 30 bucks or something. Yeah. Yeah, 32 or something. They're fantastic. Yeah, man. Um, so okay.
• 14:33
And, and, and- I mean, and, and I'm going in your direction too... a little bit of weight difference. Yeah. Right.
• 14:37
I, I don't, uh, I don't understa- I mean, the whole idea behind tubeless basically is so you can run a lower tire pressure, right? Yeah, somewhat.
• 14:44
A little more compliance, a little less interference between the tube and the, and the actual tire. Yeah. But here, here's my- Right... here's what I've discovered about them.
• 14:51
If you have more than one bike and you don't ride your tubeless bike very often- Yep... it's always a pain in the ass because- It's beat up and-...
• 14:58
you know, you might pull that thing out every couple weeks and it's, it, it always wants love... almost. But if you, if you, if your only bike is a, you know, is tubeless, maybe you're better off. But, uh, I don't know.
• 15:08
I just- Eh, maybe. I don't know... I keep, yeah. Everybody I've ever known that runs tubeless has trouble with them. And the, and the- Yeah, especially when-... installation is a disaster. I love you, Chewy.
• 15:17
Do you remember when, uh, Lance Armstrong [laughs] did the last 10 miles of Leadville with a flat back tire because he couldn't get it to seat when it was tubeless? [laughs] Right. Yep. Yep.
• 15:28
Like I said, you look at anybody that, that does any kind of racing out west, and if they, if they're running tubeless, they have a tube in the back with them because they're not gonna dick around- Yeah...
• 15:36
if they have to throw a tube in there and race it, so. Yep. Just put the fucking big ring star with. Prehumanity, I guess. So I don't know. What do you think?
• 15:42
I mean, like, Goat Heads out in, in, uh, Vegas, it, the, the tubeless setup seems to help some, but, uh, you're still carrying a tube no matter what. Well, right. And, and, uh, it does help, uh, if you have a Slime tube.
• 15:54
Like every time when we go to DJ's place, as soon as I get to Tucson, the first thing I do is grab a...
• 15:59
He's got, they've got, you know, down there they buy, buy, uh, Stan's and whatever other concoction they decide to use for tubeless. They literally have gallons of it sitting around because everything they have has it.
• 16:09
So we just fill an inner tube with it instead, and it lasts, you know, I don't know. I've probably run a year on those tubes without it gumming up the, uh, the works on it. And- Mm.
• 16:20
I've probably got a couple laying around here still that I forgot I did. You know, just, you can... They're easy to pick out in that thing. When you pick them up, they weigh about three times more.
• 16:26
[laughs] Oh, yeah, yeah. Yeah. Well, but you're not stopping. Normally they don't flat. It flats. Yeah. [laughs] Well- So- Or, or if you were- But it, but it, but it-...
• 16:32
if you were Eric Holland trying to, uh, bunny hop into, uh- Oh, yeah... Saidwolsky's- Yeah... and you kinda tried to go up the stairs, like six stairs into the bar and hit the last one and pa- louie. Oh, yeah.
• 16:45
White just- White stuff all over the place... just, just oozing like a- I did that on my-... with a pulse. Boom, boom. Boom, boom. Out. [laughs] I did that on my, uh, on my, uh, um,
• 16:57
my Moonlander coming down the steps at the hockey rink, and I hit the, when I hit the, when I hit the lot- bottom part, I tried to just jump off it and it just went poof. [laughs] And I had nothing. Yeah. [laughs] Yeah.
• 17:08
Yeah, that's a bad feeling when you got nothing. It was visually unsettling to just see all that ooze coming out of a- Yeah, that's-... off a tire, for God's sakes... it wouldn't have on the tube and air, you know?
• 17:16
That- I did not, I didn't realize what was going... I'm like, "What the... Hmm." I mean, it was the, that was the last- Ooze... stop of, uh, Fat, one of the la- last Fat Tire Tours. He was running his blood.
• 17:25
Well, the last real Fat Tire Tours. Well, the last ones at that establishment. Right. Right. When Zito got us kicked out for doing- Yeah. Thanks, Zito... fireworks.
• 17:33
[laughs] Well- Hey, speaking of Zito, uh- I, I don't know if that was the only thing, but- No, it wasn't the only- It was a contributor It helped a lot... but speaking of Zito, Urban Jungle Cross, is that a go?
• 17:41
Is it a go? Is it a go? What? What? Really? It's a ten- tentative. What? Really? Okay. There's a, there's a, a tentative- Really?... plan. 11/28, which would be the- That's the target...
• 17:50
that's the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Bird. Yeah, bird. Really? Yeah. It's always around, you know, trying to get rid of your bird. It's actually a pretty good event. Your bird belly.
• 17:58
Chewy, if you, uh, if you need another trip excuse to come to Milwaukee someday wh- when there's no freaking- Uh-huh... uh, pandemic here, uh, maybe. Well, so I did, I did hear you guys'...
• 18:09
Um, I'm gonna think about that. I got, hockey hasn't been canceled completely yet, so I'm a little bit tied into that right now, but, um, um, I heard you guys at Santa Rampage canceled
• 18:20
Well, well- Technically from who co-opted- Yeah, right... the whatever.
• 18:25
No, I, no, that's not canceled, for God sakes We were gonna do the, we were gonna do, we were gonna do the same thing here just 'cause that makes sense. Mm-hmm.
• 18:30
And actually, actually wind up having ice hockey games that day because of the, because of the late start of our season. But, um, um, our, um... We did, we did it a little bit differently than you guys.
• 18:41
Our, yours is a fundraiser for Bike Federation. Right. Ours is actually Toys for Tots. And, uh, I got- Toy, Tots for Tots... we just decided we're not gonna cancel. Tots. Ours is, yeah. Tots for Tots. Tots for Tots.
• 18:53
Tots for Tots. Got it. Yeah. Whatever. It's the Marines that run it, so we don't screw around with them too much. But they- [laughs]... gave us a call last night and said that they were desperate for toys.
• 19:02
We figured that, soon I figured that they would get, you know, humbled with, uh, donations this year just because people weren't doing anything else. Oh, shit, yeah. It's kinda been the op- it's kinda been the opposite.
• 19:12
So we're gonna do something like, um, I did, for this year I purposely went out and got a Grinch outfit, so I think I'm just gonna go pedal around town with a Grinch outfit on and try to collect as much crap as I can to get, give to Toys for Tots for the Marines, so.
• 19:26
You mean that's an option? That's gonna be ours this year.
• 19:28
Not really sure what day we're gonna do it because they, they have to be done before November 30th, or the 25th of November, because they have to, uh, cleanse all the stuff before they can give it away to kids, so.
• 19:38
Yeah, for sure. Clean them all, yeah, yeah, yeah. I know we've done something- Yeah... I don't know if it was a Santa. Some- We, we-... some ride here we've done Toy, Toys for Tots. It was, I think it was the- Yeah...
• 19:46
some of the original, um, uh, s- uh, Fat Bike, uh- Right... mm, World Fat Bike Day. What? A Global Fat Bike Day. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. I think, I think Gomez got something going with that at some point- Yep, yep...
• 19:58
where we did a Toys for Tots deal. Yes, you are correct, sir. Do you really think you can sanitize all the chewy out of something collected? [laughs] [laughs] It's automatically sanitized if I touch it. Ah. Jesus Christ.
• 20:12
That's what, yeah, that's what they call him in the Oldsbergs. Ah, clean. When, when, when's Veto Cross gonna be? Uh, that will be- This spring? End of November...
• 20:23
the, the 28th is the target date, which would be the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Okay. And I think we kind of already know where it's gonna be. There's not a whole...
• 20:31
We, we've lost some of our most beautiful spots, but this one is still pretty good. It's under the freeway. It's awesome. Oh, nice. And, uh, you know, it's a, it's a, it is a, an urban
• 20:43
jungle cross, cyclo-cross kind of an idea. There will be dismounts. There will be s- Hand ups... a, a few s- hills where some people run up them, some people don't. There's definitely hand ups.
• 20:53
Similar to, similar- A lot, a lot of chicken legs. Chicken, chicken, there's chicken... Whiskey. There's whiskey hand ups. Peps. Well, that also has to be thought, rethought too. Maybe.
• 21:01
Similar to the one that's in Philly- Oh, yeah, similarly... that's in the junkyard? Del- yeah, but that one, that one's pretty cool. Um, our old one- That, yeah... when we still had the old Solvay Coke plant- Oh.
• 21:11
So cool... when we could ride through buildings- Oh, yeah... and do all sorts of cool stuff. So cool. That was a lot more like that one- Oh, yeah... where it's in the junkyard.
• 21:16
That, yeah, that was my 10-year-old, my, my t- oh, my inner 10-year-old was going, "Oh, this is perfect." That was the coolest place to ride. "This is it."
• 21:25
So we didn't really talk a lot about this TG beer here- We need to get back to this... this Pompeii IPA. Yeah, let's get into this really tap it in. But you know what? It's really freaking good. Yep, yep. Yeah. Pompeii.
• 21:32
Let's talk about this. Let, let Michael fill you in with what is the deal with- It is a-... this freaking beer. It's a Pompeii IPA,
• 21:41
and it's named after Pompeii, which was famous not only for, not only the volcano that destroyed it, actually that's Vesuvius, um- [laughs]... but the amazing mosaics on the walls of the rooms.
• 21:53
Hey, I'm a classical civilizations major- Yeah... man, come on Whatever. This is my wheelhouse. The city was Pompeii, right? It was destroyed. The city was Pompeii, but the mount was Vesuvius. Whatever. Mm-hmm.
• 22:02
But they did have great mosaics in there, and this IPA is created with the same attention to detail as the beautiful mosaics that grace the city of Pompeii. It features mango. Mango.
• 22:12
I can taste the little mango in there. And pineapple hop flavors. Who's the little- With a medium body... who was the little mango character that was always on San- It's Catan. Yeah.
• 22:20
That's why I do that little dance at the beginning- [laughs]... and he does the little, "Uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh." Yeah. Yeah. He's... Nobody messes with the mango. Never.
• 22:28
Yeah, that's why like the Bucs- Don't, don't touch the mango... and yeah, and the Bucs, uh, uh, mascot is Bango, which I can't [laughs] not hear Bango and go, "Oh."
• 22:38
I mean, we just would always, we would have them on the fucking radio, and it would be like, "And we got Bango here," and we'd just have that voice like, "Oh, Bango." [laughs] All right, now I've really dovetailed off.
• 22:51
Right? Delicious beer. This is a delicious beer. I do- Very fruity... Chewy, I do want to acknowledge that we're ignoring another caller temporarily here, just so you know. Oh. We noticed.
• 23:02
I, I can certainly, I can certainly dive away and talk to you guys for a bit. No, you, you're, you're the, you're the star- We love you, Chewy... of the show. Okay. Just like we love the next caller.
• 23:10
Peop- okay, before we let you go, can you just fill us in a little bit about y- your next couple of shows? You've got some things kinda planned for your- Oh... uh, Chewy's Salon Chair podcast/radio program. Okay.
• 23:24
I've got two planned. Um, one is going to be, uh, a two-part one in essence.
• 23:29
Um, uh, my buddy Pat, um, Burridge from Dunk Cyclists and a bunch of guys do a thing called, um, it's called, uh, The Beer Century, but it's actually
• 23:39
110 miles, so they go from Tempe, Arizona, to Tucson, and every 10 miles they stop and have a beer. [laughs] I've done it once. It's a blast. Sounds like an awesome idea. And it ends up in Tucson- I could do that...
• 23:50
it ends up in Tucson, where they have one of the biggest bike swaps you've ever seen. I mean, 10 times bigger than the one in Minneapolis. I,
• 23:56
I, I've only been to the one in Milwaukee or M- Madison, so that's the only other one I can compare it to. It's probably 15 times bigger than that. Like, say 10 city blocks. Wow.
• 24:04
And then so those guys are looking at a new starting place because of the pandemic. They don't wanna go to the Tiki Lounge, which was sketchy enough as it is before this all happened.
• 24:13
Um, so they, we're looking at a, one bar there, so we're gonna do, um, they're gonna call me Saturday. We're gonna do a little bit then, and then they're gonna call me for the route.
• 24:21
And then the other one I'm gonna do is I'm gonna go up to the cities to pick up my Cars or Coffins apparel from Hurl and, uh- Nice...
• 24:29
sit down and talk to him for a while, 'cause I haven't talked to him personally for quite a while. Oh, I need a lot of those. So those are my next two coming up. Yeah, right on. So Hurl's- And-...
• 24:36
uh, he's in, uh, Minneapolis, correct? Yep. Yeah. He lived in Minneapolis, um, been a freelance bike magazine. He's worked for a bunch of companies. He owned a coffee shop. He's a bike mechanic.
• 24:48
He's made a living off of Cars or Coffins- Yeah, yeah... promoting the idea of not owning a car. He's just, yeah, he's...
• 24:56
And he's been riding around taking pictures throughout the whole pandemic of the artwork in Minneapolis, you know, and parking his bike by it. Awesome. And it's been, uh, phenomenal.
• 25:04
So like I said, I haven't seen him for a while. I'm dragging a chair up there with me so he gets to sit in a chair in his backyard now. [laughs] Nice. That sounds awesome. Yeah. Is, is he slinging gloves?
• 25:16
Yeah, yeah, that- Okay. 'Cause I, I, I've been sitting... I, I had a great pair of Cars or Coffins gloves, and I lost one, of course. And- The, the gear one? The what? Uh, it, it was like a- The black one?...
• 25:28
a half and half. Yeah. It was black and, you know- Yep, yep. Those... one side and the other side. So, yeah, that, that's, that's minor warrants from getting a pair of those. He did a, he did, like, a BMX jersey.
• 25:37
He's got another riding jersey. He did a set of bibs this year because he's back to being a road weenie, I think. Oh. Yeah, probably. Oh. Yeah, shake some sense into there, man. [laughs] I like wearing bibs.
• 25:47
[laughs] Oh, I'm sorry. No, no, I, I... Yeah, yeah. So, yeah. Um, it's off his site? Does he have... Does that... Yeah, I'm in the market for those things. Yeah, it's on his site.
• 25:54
Yeah, I, I think he's, I think he's waiting for the order to come in. I don't know if he's actually ordered- Oh, sure... himself, but go to his, go to his site- Yeah, yeah, yeah... and check it out. It's right there.
• 26:01
I definitely will. Yeah. I miss those gloves. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. And then somebody fucked off with my- Cool... awesome, uh, water bottle, like, five years ago, and I'm still angry about that one. Right on.
• 26:12
[laughs] Yeah, I, I mean, I only ever ran- I, I- I only ever ran into Hurl at, uh, at the Interbikes usually, so it'd be good to hear what- Yep... he's up to. Yep, he is there. Yeah, no, yeah, that's... It's...
• 26:24
And he's done a lot since probably the last time you've seen him. He's kinda been all over the map, so it's kinda cool, so, um...
• 26:30
And, and I am gonna hit him up because, um, my bitching about e-bikes, you heard that, you know, I know that Lemond is doing an e-bike. [laughs] A carbon e-bike. Um, and, uh- Another bike company for Lemond...
• 26:40
yeah, well, the thing is, is that, that Hurl used to work with Lemond. Uh, I don't remember what they were doing. It was one of them, maybe when they came out the second time.
• 26:48
I don't know if they actually worked together or they just happened to share office space up in Minneapolis at, for a time. I'm not really sure of the whole story, but I'm gonna find out. Right on.
• 26:55
See if he thinks about it. I, it... So I actually did one of those Leonard Skinner things with, um, with Greg Lemond up at, uh, the Birkie many years ago, the...
• 27:04
Uh, not the Birkie, the whatever they call that, the Chequamegon thing up there. Chequamegon.
• 27:08
The Chequamegon race when he was still racing, and he was happy to have finished 40th or something, and he was sitting at, uh, the sawmill and, "Hey, Greg, how's it going out there?" "Oh, yeah, yeah, it's good."
• 27:17
And he started talking about fishing on the Boulder River in Montana. He goes, "Oh, you fish on the Boulder River, do you?" I'm like, "Yep, we can talk about fishing, but we're not gonna talk about no damn bike racing."
• 27:26
[laughs] No, no, and he's a, he's a hell of a fisherman, too. Yeah. He travels the country fishing. Well, he used to fish about a mile and a half from where our family had a, had a lodge in the olden times- Oh...
• 27:37
when my grandfather was still around. So he knew the Gallatin River, and he knew right where we fished, and he's like, "That's a beautiful stretch of river right there."
• 27:45
Oh, yeah, and he comes down to Southern Minnesota- Is there an ugly stretch of river?... on, uh, Black Earth. He would go fishing with him quite a bit and pheasant hunting together.
• 27:51
They would go do both down there, so that was kinda cool. Right on. All right, Chewy- All right, cool... well, thanks for making the show interesting. We're gonna get to our next guest and, uh- You know what, Chewy?
• 28:00
All right, cool. Well, bye... let us know. Before you go, R- Chewy, just real quick. Even though you hate e-bikes, I love you. [sighs] Jesus. Goodbye. See you later. [laughs] All right, bye. You're making this so hard.
• 28:12
[laughs] See you guys. All right, thanks, Chewy. Bye. Bye. Next caller. Wow, two callers in one show. Oh. Patiently waiting caller. Oh. Excuse me. Patiently. I don't know how to do this.
• 28:25
I think I have to push a button or something. Let's see how this works. Oh, oh. Dang old technology and whatnot. Hey, welcome to the radio program caller. Who do we have on the line? How you all doing, man?
• 28:35
It's Big Fat Dave. No way. Oh. Hey. I was wondering when you were gonna call in next. [laughs] How are you, sir? I'm, I'm good, man.
• 28:44
I've been off the road for a couple weeks, but I just, um, I just, uh, used Mapbox on, uh, the Google Play Store, and I, uh, re- retraced my route,
• 28:55
and I got 43 stops, um, on the whole route, and, uh, over 5,000 miles this summer. So- Oh. Shit yeah, brother. You, you- That was- You're living the life...
• 29:06
this, uh, I'm gonna, I'm gonna send, I'll send y'all the screenshot. Um- How do you feel, bro? I, I heard, I heard what you all were talking about, about them, um, them slime tubes.
• 29:16
Uh, y'all can take those, those slime tubes and that mango beer, and I'll, uh- [laughs]... go with the Walmart cheapo, uh, inner tubes and, uh, Pabst Blue Ribbon. Nah, I'm not a- Oh, I, I- I'm not not a...
• 29:30
We, we have beer water in the fridge called Hamm's. Yeah, I, I'm okay with that, too, sir. All right? The, the beer refreshing is always in the fridge.
• 29:36
So your Walmart, your Walmart tubes have, have treated you well 'cause they're super thick and heavy? Is that what you're saying? I'll tell, I'll tell you what. Um, when I, when I left Arabi, Louisiana on April 30th,
• 29:49
um, 2020, I had three slime tubes in my, uh, on my, uh, in my pack, in my gear, in my, in my rig. And those are not cheap.
• 29:59
And, uh, I, I, I used one of them when I crossed the Missouri border, and I used all three of them before I got out of Missouri, and that was, like, the, uh, it, it was... I was into Arkan- uh, into Illinois,
• 30:15
and those slime tubes were horse shit. [laughs] You try to seal them at all, or...?
• 30:20
They're, they're s- Well, they, they, they- They're supposed to seal themselves, dude But or could it be that they have been sitting on a shelf too long? I was wrist, wrist deep in green shit trying to- Oh, I'm sorry...
• 30:28
trying to change my inner tube, man. It... I'll take the sheep bone any day. So what size, what size shoes does Heather wear? Heather, Heather wears 26. Oh, right on. Well, I, I just got a whole- Other way around?
• 30:41
I got a whole case of 20-inch slime tubes if anybody needs them. I just, I have no idea what we'd ever use these for. Trailers. They, they mis-shipped them, and then they didn't want to- Right...
• 30:50
they didn't wanna pay for them- Get the rain ship back... to get them back. [laughs] So they just sit on these 20-inch slime tubes for me. [laughs] No, but, but you know, the, the- That's awesome...
• 30:57
the funniest thing is, is that when, when I left my brother's driveway, um, in late July and I had done Iowa, Missouri,
• 31:06
uh, Illinois, Indiana, M- Michigan, you know, Ohio, West Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, I did not have a single flat tire the whole time. I'm glad you're done now- It was really weird...
• 31:19
'cause you, you would have wood to knock. Right? Yeah. Oh, yeah. Or rub out or whatever. [laughs] Exactly.
• 31:25
[laughs] Whatever the good euphemism- I, for, for some reason, and, and the, um, the, the right, the, the right rim, um, situation has been taken care of apparently 'cause I haven't had any trouble at all.
• 31:39
It's been- Nice... it's just been really weird. She's riding like a dream still, like 5,000 miles later. So what's your, what's your wintering plan? Are you gonna be down in New Orleans there for the entire time?
• 31:51
Well, um, I'm, I'm north of the lake. I'm, I'm, uh, I'm, I'm, uh, there's a big lake constrain is, like separates me from New Orleans right now.
• 32:02
New Orleans the city is not a very good place to be because of the pandemic. Mm-hmm.
• 32:07
And, uh, like it, it, yeah, our, it, it, I went, I went into the city a couple, couple days ago, and, uh, just for, for, for, for yucks I asked if people were hiring, [laughs] and they just laughed at me.
• 32:20
[laughs] Like, "Are you kidding me?" [laughs] So yeah, but up- Are you looking for seasonal help? But up here north of- I know the holidays are coming up...
• 32:27
yeah, north, north of the lake in the suburbs, there's, uh, everywhere is hiring right now. Oh, really? Everywhere. So it's, I, I'm gonna, I'm gonna be wintering, uh, in Hammond, Louisiana.
• 32:41
[laughs] So, uh, y- And- They've had no small, uh, amount of, uh, rain/hurricane action down there this year, have they? No, uh, there, there, there hasn't been any hurricanes at all. What are you talking about?
• 32:55
[laughs] Uh, Jesus. I, it's, and, and it's like the, a record-breaking- Mm... season of course, and almost all of them went to, um, Southwest Louisiana, and the, that one, um, Zeta,
• 33:11
Z-E-T-A, went, it literally went- Direct... right through New Orleans. Direct hit. But it was moving so fast that it didn't do a whole lot of damage. Oh, that was, uh, that was good. That's good, I guess.
• 33:24
Like it, it- I think you still got... Isn't, is it- It knocked out, it knocked out power, knocked a couple trees down. But if it was going any slower- Oh, yeah... it would've done way more damage.
• 33:33
That sustained, yeah, that sustained bam, bam, just wrapping you. Like- Is, uh, is The- Yeah. It, it is- Is Theta taking a, a beat on you? There's a, there- Is he even A-A... there's another one coming.
• 33:43
Kind of just hanging in that Gulf. [laughs] Yeah. That's, that's, that's hitting my mom in Tampa right now. It's, it's, it's just rain and wind. It's not, you know, it's just rainy and windy.
• 33:53
You gotta walk the dog between the raindrops. That's all. Right. Yeah. We've- He's, he's a small dog, man... we had a, we had, we had about a 10-minute event here yesterday. There were t- Yeah, it was crazy...
• 34:01
there were tornado watches all over the place yesterday. 79 mile an hour winds. 79 mile an hour straight line winds. For an hour. Yeah. And then it was done. Yeah. It was- Yeah. I was-... it was a cat hurricane...
• 34:09
I, my, my brother did tell me that it was quite windy up there a, a while back, a couple days ago. It was pretty nuts. The stuff was coming across horizontal-like.
• 34:19
It was, it was, it wasn't, you know, we're not, I'm not saying it was a hurricane, but it was blowing hard. Right. Right. Well, it, it reminds me of- We're trying to sensationalize our casualty list here...
• 34:28
it reminds me of when I, uh, I got the Porter. Yeah. We get weather, too. [laughs] Hey, just wait till we get snow and you're down there. I got the Porter in Tennessee. Oh, the weather outside is weather.
• 34:37
So we got to get on top of this ridge, and it was like a wind fight.
• 34:40
It was like this cold front comes in at the same time as I was on top of this ridge, and I was on my way down the hill, and like it was blowing me back up the hill. [laughs] That's crazy.
• 34:49
So when you, when you're back home, are you still riding Heather, or do you ride, uh, do you have a, do you have a two-wheel steed as well? Oh, yeah. Oh, pretty please. Heather's my girl, [laughs] man.
• 34:58
Uh, she would get so pissed. I mean, uh, my friend has a, has a two-wheel named Ariel, and if I, you know, gotta go to the store quick, I, I'll, I'll jump on that one. But I, I'll, I'll, I take Heather everywhere I go.
• 35:12
Good man. Awesome. And have you for- But, and, and-... have you formulated any plans for, uh, the 2021 season? Or is that still, um, too much up in the air- Yeah... with, with whatnot? Yeah.
• 35:21
Um, hey, if, if I had to make the decision right now, I would, I'm gonna go Austin, Oklahoma City,
• 35:30
uh, Topeka, Lincoln, Denver, Cheyenne, Mount Rushmore, Pierre, Bismarck, Minneapolis, and then see where the wind takes us from there. Nice. That's- But, um, you know, things may change.
• 35:46
Who knows what this winter might bring or not. Well, it's good to hear your voice. Don't, uh, be a stranger throughout the winter. Just let us know what's happening down in your neck of the woods, and- Yeah...
• 35:57
keep us apprised- Yeah... 'cause, uh- Great to hear from you, man... lots of, lots of folks love to hear from Big Sexy. Well, I'm, I'm right on the St. Tammany Trace, which goes from Slidell to Covington. Slidell.
• 36:10
And it's, uh- Oh... it's a 36 miles, it, it is a 36-mile bike, bike path, and it's beautiful and wonderful. They take really good care of it. And, uh- Too bad Barry Seal's not down there in Slidell anymore.
• 36:23
[laughs] Well, I'll tell, I'll tell you what, um, that end, that end of it is, uh, that's just Slidell, man. It's n- never gonna change. Slidell. [laughs] All right, dude.
• 36:35
Well, thanks for giving- Great to hear from you, man... thanks for giving us a shout. Um, and don't be a stranger. We're, we're gonna, we're gonna look for you all winter long here.
• 36:41
I don't know what we're gonna do unless we hear from- Big Sexy... Big Sexy. Absolutely. I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll at least call every couple weeks. How about that? That- Sounds good, brother... every m- makes our show...
• 36:52
plus, you know, how the tricycle's doing and everything like that. So yeah. I'll, I'll be in touch, you guys. And, uh, you know, you know, keep on doing the good, good stuff, and Happy Veterans Day to all- Absolutely...
• 37:01
of you out there. Oh, you too, man. You too. Right on. Right on. All right, dude. Peace. Thanks again. All right, man. Take it easy, guys. Bye. Um, where- These are, these are the gloves I'm looking for. These are the...
• 37:15
No. These are the- Oh, yes. I saw- Which also works for a Santa thing. Oh, there's... Those are the half-a-cuffin' gloves, I guess. Yeah. Yeah. I was trying to describe the half-a-cuffin' gloves. That's not on the site.
• 37:24
Damn it. All right then. Well, you know how, what they say. We've done it again. Don't overstay your welcome. [laughs] Get the hell out. [laughs] Quick while you're ahead, brother. Yeah.
• 37:34
Thanks to Chewy and Big Sexy for making a show that we couldn't have done without them. And, uh- Nice Big Sexy... I guess we'll be back next week. Chewy, you should ride an electric bike.
• 37:46
  [upbeat music]
